"Hey mike thanks for joining me man. Yes so hooley pablo. I've been wanting to come on the show for a while. Michael rothstein is espn's detroit lions beat writer and he's covered michigan sports for more than a decade. Well it's your time. Calvin johnson weekend just wrapped up and you covered him during his nine year. Career with the detroit. Lions and calvin johnson was just elected to the pro football hall of fame now officially establishing him as one of the greatest receivers players of all time. So what's the reaction been like from the himself. Calvin johnson's not somebody who gets emotional. Ever if you remember him during press conferences during his time in the nfl he wouldn't say all that much. He's a very quiet guy but you could see on the video that they showed on the nfl honor show. He got emotional. He started crying. You started tearing up five years. Anything i want to see to my peers city unfolds. Keep stacking good the top of good days. It always going to be perfect. The volume striving for probation. No you you're gonna be alright so this is clearly an emotional moment for a player that often didn't get a ton of attention for being as good as he was because of the teams that he was on johnston touchdown detroit. Linebacker cut staff to tort. Lines god yeah and the team that he was on the detroit lions. He made so much news mike at the time when he left the game back in two thousand and fifteen remind us why and what happened. There was a multitude of factors but the biggest wind. It was that he's body was just breaking down on side of retire based off of my body film. The way i feel mentally and all those things working together one you know my job is kissed ball. You know someone catching the ball when that kinda hurts another flat his fingers and this is a podcast so people can't see it but like his fingers are bent in like all these different directions. His finger man. This is something else People like otherwise. You put down social media on things like ashley wearing away. I had dinner with him probably a year after he retired and we were sitting. There were talking. He's telling me about his fingers. And i was like it's that finger right. He's like no. It's this one. That's how beat up fingers were was that the mangled finger that was going the different direction. That was the good finger. Yeah that was the better finger and beyond that if you remember dancing with the stars pretty soon. After retirement a play professional football us would have detroit lions. I'm on dancing with the stars. Because i wanna prove my sister. Sister lily told the world. That could not dance. We'll have to redeem myself. He almost had to quit dancing. With the stars he finished third by the way had to quit because ankles were so bad and that was what was play games ankles and his knees towards the end of his career that he could not necessarily dance during the week and he was really worried about being able to complete that

"Flood Hooley and Harvey Air all these guys were candidates and I got the task. And I actually had to learn to steer basis. So that's how I got involved as a weapon was it used differently back say when you were playing in the sixties, then say compared to in the eighties and the nineties as it is right now. Multiple. Was a commission by the opposition to allow you to run. They permitted you run. On certain counts in certain scores these was unwritten and if he did it out of context to that you, you were in a shooting gallery time up. So you got if he's still a base with a three run lead. You will get one in to reopen the next time you got knocked down pretty good. In fact, if the opposition in knock you down, your teammates were ask. Tolerated that will. Then, Mara wheels came along and SORTA changed that the change begin to take place because the dodgers had like a punch that one year they decided Mari. Basically with a four lead. Saint Louis came along a bar club was tremendous hitters who school eight nine runs the ball game. So what didn't even base stealers? I was thrown in there. I was in a shooting gallery. My first two years I had a broken shoulder and everything to go with it. But it was came with the Turks, and after a few years the begin lighten up still the stolen base wasn't legitimize but I mean sanctioned by manages and coaches on around eighteen seventy two, and that's when you begin to run it all costs through the school could be. "It's risky. Business for everybody involved shortcut is to find maybe someone like yourself. Yourself was good at this stuff and kind of build off the fact that they've built the knowledge a reputation, but you're only sort of consulting with them a little bit. You're not asking them to run the whole business giving a lot of input from them how to make it work, and that's where our podcast comes in, and if we have an ambitious listener may reach doubt. Business and you could be. A mentor or some type of guidance absolutely well. We're coming up on time here. I've got to task you 'cause. You seem to have it all put together and I'm curious. What do you think in personally as a growth opportunity for either yourself or the system that you've just described so i? Mean I'll be honest I absolutely love teaching I, don't. Don't know if it's the mother in me. Orde just all the fun experience that that we've been able to have the blessing to lean over the years, but I love teaching entrepreneurs. I love teaching would be business owners, I love I love all of it, and so right now one of my things. Obviously I have the conquering kiosks podcast which I do. And I'm in the middle of writing a book which I'm hoping to that I can get done if my kids ever go back to school, who knows? But there's a lot of different projects for me. That are more personal in nature that I'm working on because it fuels my fire, and that's that teaching and coaching is one of them. Awesome so one question that I'd like to leave our listeners with what's one thing that you want them to take away from the conversation? If you were to to wrap it up, put a pin on it for listener. Honestly if I could go back and give myself a little bit of advice in the beginning, I wasted so much time thinking that I wasn't capable of learning the hard things. Ultimately you see these roadblocks in your path and it's enough..

"A win for you and you're just giving away money to be nice. Nugget section of our of our notes is going to be. I wanted to ask you, so we talked about those three things we talked about traffic versions average order value. Do you. Do you focus on each one one month at a time? Are you pulling the levers all at the same time? mean. How do you keep a focus when you have all of these? Manage so each of these cases is driven by a different type of behavior, so for example new arrivals produce a higher value higher cart value, so that increases the average order, but it may not have quite a high conversion or may not have quite a high conversion rate, because it's not on sale versus a massive blow out close out. Sale is going to drive a ton of traffic, but the average order value is going to go. Go Down because the value of the items has decreased, and then you've got your trending, which is going to be kind of a mix of both you know so. There's different consumer behaviors react to different levers in those different ways, so it just becomes a general understanding of this is what I'm offering. This is how I know that consumer behaviors going to affect these each of these three levers. Therefore, this is how my goal needs to. Needs, to shake out in order for me to reach what I'm trying what I'm pining for. Want to get into the tactical steps here a little bit more. You talked about the importance of traffic convergence order value. Do you think about that on a channel basis as well I'm picturing a listener on home. who finds his overwhelming and they? Typically people will start up and saying I'll help you on facebook or a help you with your seo happiest Google ads. How do you think about the different channels in when it comes to? That you mentioned. So going back to my story, I am a huge proponent of having a website. That is your own. That is your home base and utilizing the social.

"So now you're going to not only just take that category of goods, but then you're going to break that down further and say okay I know that jumps in robbers is my bestselling category, but I offer fifty jumps in robbers. I'm not. GonNa put a picture of the lowest selling piece that I have in that collection on the banner I'm going to put a picture of the the top or the one of the top three items on that collection because I know that's what people want. That's what's going. Going to drive people to convert so really just becomes this balance of yes on Brandon Sex, but dr it with data. You don't need to guess what people want. If you have data, your data will tell you what people want. And you gotta listen to that more than your personal opinion of what looks good, and so then you're going to create that banner with the best selling item in the bestselling collection. You'RE GONNA. Put that first, and then the next one's going to be the next second-best etc, etc and. There could be just a lovely article that you know is just beautiful, but if nobody's buying it, you don't put it at the top. Just make our own people like it. You can like if you want, but it's really you got to respond with other people enjoy. Absolutely and then, of course, the third, the third lever is going to be your average order value. We actually have put together a formula that my team can play around with and say okay. We're planning on this. We're seeing this trend. A plug in one number see how the other numbers adjusts, nor to meet that goal on any given day so that way that you can do, this is very basic you're. "What are you pushing? What's the message that you're pushing out? What's the call to action? And then let's back into it so all of those things it's just about the more clear that you are about what you're driving than all of a sudden. You're marketing your seasonal marketing. Plan that you put together I know for us. We say okay. We're expecting. We're GONNA have a sale here. In promotion sale over here sail over here so in the dips of that there's peaks and valleys right so in the valleys of the sales promotions were going to offset with a peak in a new item release or a trending item announcement to try to level out the top line sales. As much as possible is interesting. It's it's of the noticing of you. Can Province be? What my intuition but. Like with clothing brands or fashion brands, that's of the model. I'll see or even other things I might buy online vitamins or supplements or something. It's kind of like. When's the sale? You know what's the featured item kind of? What are we talking about right now? And then there's other brands where it's kind of like. Let's just keep giving information. Let's teach US things. Let's you know you. Knowledge. Is that am I sensing that that that's kind of the way that that that kind of ecommerce especially fashioned works more. It's more about ABS -olutely trends and bus about the information marketing. And ultimately when it comes to information marketing that's going to be more around your healthcare or more around different situational opportunities in coaching for example the when I put out. When I put out content for my coaching I'm not talking about. Hey, get this promotion. Dollars off your next hour session. I think it'd be good to to call out for the listener the context in which they can use this information that you're sharing, because it is coming in like a firehose in in mentioned it, but you can take to listen. You can take this framework that Aaron is outlining and soon actionable ways that you can use it if you don't have your own business are to approach a friend offer to implement a system like this for free for the first month, and after that you can start seeing some results could take charge a nominal fee this is. Is something that he can do in your spare time. If you're working from home, right, help out a friend. Improve their business and practice in a lower stakes way so that's just one avenue in which you can take the ideas that Aaron Shang. Take this framework and turn it into your own business. I. Think that a lot of are other upsets. We've talked about different frameworks like that and you're sharing such information about the strategy in itself. That I liked the time that we're spending on it back to you. You're laying out the game plan. Keep going. Second Lover Obviously is going to be your conversion rate, and a lot of people say okay, we'll. How does conversion rate effect? Let's say that it's a five thousand dollar goal. View increase your conversion rate by only half a percent from two percent to two point, five percent and your average order value remains the same at fifty dollars..

Matthew right so that means that for every hundred people that come to your website to people are going to convert their each gonna spend fifty. Fifty Bucks. You'RE GONNA make a hundred one hundred people come to the website. You get one hundred bucks. Two hundred people come two hundred bucks, a thousand people thousand bucks,.

"In one day it was a Amazon affiliate marketing turned off or you know I i. don't know exactly what happened, but I saw lots of friends and him Amazon billiards say. Oh. Well and for me in this hits really close to home, because back in two thousand and fifteen. Bailey's blossoms was predominantly on. Our website, but we didn't know how to use it. We didn't know the power that was there and so eighty five percent of our sales were coming from the ESI platform and then in December of two thousand fifteen. When I'm thinking, life can't get any better than the this is fantastic I'm telling my husband. He should quit his corporate career because I needed help with six kids and everything else. And in the first two weeks, of January, they pulled the plug in removed us from the platform, and I was devastated I thought business was over eighty five percent of my sails gone overnight, and there was nothing I could do about it and I walked. Walked out to office and I went to go. Tell my eight and a half months. Pregnant has more service representative that we were no longer on the arm, and she looked at me and she said Aaron. Are you telling me that after this baby? I'm not? GonNa have a job and I said I mean that was what I was going to, but when she put it that way couldn't i. just looked at her and I said No. I'm telling you that. If you'll be patient with me, your job description just might change. And that was the pivotal moment where I knew. Something has to change. There's an opportunity here that I, missing and through that. We, suddenly we claimed the power of our brand. We revamped the way that we were our marketing. We grew two hundred thirty three percent that year based off of these pivots that we made in a time of dire need, where it would have been very easy for me to throw my hands up and say too hard to stressful. It's over what worked yesterday. No longer work today so therefore we're done and yet. That wasn't the case at all. I've got to call an aside here for something that I'm noticing from the way you're talking. You seem to be super optimistic. Super Resilient! How much? Much of your success with Billy's blossoms and pain. Would you say is attributed to those qualities? Oh I think that if there's one characteristic and successful entrepreneurs that I've seen, it has been the ability to not get so bogged down in the weeds the day to day task list the things that kind of freaked us out and stress us out to where we cannot get up above the road, and see that big, five hundred foot, or five thousand foot, level picture, and so it requires a degree of optimism where where you can pause, keep your anxiety in your stress in check and look at. That are right there as long as you don't get stuck..

So glad we could make it work here very impressive what you've been able to do with with your family and multiple brands. He's got a podcast now. We'll talk about all of that throughout the interview, but the crux of this interview and the idea behind the podcast general is to bring ideas from successful nurse like yourself to our listeners and share, not only the idea, but how you think about business problems in how you would get started on the action steps, so that's what we're gonNA dive into will save some time at the end to talk a lot about billy's blossoms. And your podcast, but let's kick things off by asking you to tell us about an idea that you like listeners to run with absolutely so right now we're in the middle of covid nineteen. It's big all hot mess out there and I think one of the things that I've seen the most in working with the wholesale industry and the retail industry, and seeing how many people are just completely struggling, and even shutting down and panicking, because they don't know how to pivot and turn. And what I see in front of us, it's just this great opportunity, and it's an opportunity to adapt. To change and. When it takes a really big life event, usually a birth, a death, a job lost something to shake up an allow us to be open and susceptible to considering change I'm looking at all of these agencies that run facebook ads. They've got all their eggs in one basket. Saying this is the recipe for success, but the reality is the your banking on someone. Else's business platform mortgage Eggert could pull the plug or change now grid them or do something that is going to put the majority of Your Business Jeopardy. If you are banking on that and that along so here, I'm looking at all these agencies all these all of. Of this opportunity for people to step back and take ownership of as many channels of responsibility as you possibly can. Are there any agencies out there that fully understand what it takes to run a successful ECOMMERCE business, and so I have these three levers that we use to be able to drive traffic and increase ourselves at actually given us an eighty percent increase in sales over covid nineteen since the onset of it back in late March, but ultimately I just look at this huge opportunity for somebody to step in and fill in this gap where it's not just facebook driven, but it is e commerce driven as a whole..

And so I went there, and it was this very strange in fancy hotel. And I went up to his room. And the arrangement was like he was going to blow me and we were both going to like satisfied ourselves. And that was that. I I went to law school. I like I want to know what the auto. I wanna know what the offer is consideration terms. The thing is is straight people were always. So like, oh my God. That's so plant work, you you just go with the flow. And it's like now that we live in a world where we talk about how much men don't get consent. I like that. I have a nice record of like nearly every sexual encounter that I've had. So do you keep it in like a spreadsheet or somewhere in the cloud? It's somewhere in the cloud. I'm sure, but I went up, and he was like a little bit older than me. And it was very young at the time and he had a British accent. I went to law school. I was in my late twenties.
