Now, it's time for watchdog Wednesday with a better government association. Madeleine do Becky is joining us. Interesting study. Let's talk about this. And this is a BJ report poverty. It used to be mainly a city problem not exclusively, but mainly a city problem. But now, it's it's flipped and it's more in the suburbs than it is in the city. It is more in the suburbs than it is in the city across the country, and the BJ and WBZ did a joint project and really dived in tremendous detail and. Great storytelling and took a look at kind of a microcosm of this problem in Dolton, Illinois, which is just south of the city, and you know. Over time. We know the steel industry went away and that kind of set off this downward spiral where one thing just built upon another. And we had white flight, and we had you know, property taxes. Skyrocketing lost that loss of jobs mate meant that. It was more difficult for people to pay their taxes, then you have tax scavengers swooping in and grabbing up these overdue delinquent property tax bills. And then the homeowners they're faced with a huge Bill to get their houses back with interest payments and penalties and it just becomes this incredible downward spiral. So it's. The story of Dolton, but it could be Harvey. It could be Riverdale. It could be any number of suburbs across the country where we're seeing increasing poverty and really a sense of desperation and interesting to me to see sort of the that reverse migration where you have people who used to want to work downtown and live out on a nice big piece of property in the suburbs. Now, they wanna be condo dwellers. They want to be able to walk around the neighborhood downtown right in back in the nineteen seventies in sixties and even fifties before people were leaving Chicago four Dolton because it was, you know, the land of milk, and Honey where you were going to get to have a bigger piece of property and everything was clean and beautiful. And and this is just really the story of decades of decay. Let's quickly touch on something that you wrote about in. That is the fight for fair maps, kind of give us a quick thumbnail sketch of what that even means. And maybe the opportunity we are. So the. Way most states operate after each census, and we have one coming up in twenty twenty you're required to redraw all of your political maps. So that you as close as possible represent one Representative per vote. And so in most states, it's done from a very partisan perspective a political lens, whether it's the Republicans who have the control of the map or the Democrats. It's mostly been the Democrats here lately, it was the Republicans in one thousand nine hundred ninety but one of the stories that hasn't really been focused on from the election is that we had four more states joined the push to do more independent approach to redistricting happened in Michigan. It happened in Missouri. Both of which are very close to us. Neighbor us also happen in Colorado and in Utah. It happened in Ohio earlier this year in may. And there were a few states out west like California in Zona who've previously done it. What happens now is when politicians start drawing those maps, they're taking away our power, our voice our vote, and we should demand. It back. That is something that governor elect JV Pritzker has said he supports. So let's put them to the test. We'll see Madeleine do back. Always good.

"Hurt? I mean. Jesus. Like everybody saw edge. You can't say something. And then they say well, and then as a Schumer got arrested today in Washington, and it was the wrong Schumer was Amy Schumer, Amy Schumer. Yes, gets arrested for protesting, but somebody wave their hand. And she got upset that might have been her yelling at Orrin Hatch. Grow up, Amy. Nobody waves her handed me Hanway fan, waving. Grow up. Yeah. Is kind of. Just ask you Pat Brady, and because he's our political and sometimes our legal analyst. I have a question about Van Dyke to for you. So hold on. You get a lot to get to here with with Pat. But before we ask you any questions, and I suggest that you stand down after I asked this question and act like you're not here trying to get into the wallpaper when I asked this, but I'd like to ask from the women on this program. From the lady folk on this program when you when a guy does say that when when the sense of dismissal goes on here. Gets your backup, right? Just a bit. Okay. After all that's what it's all about. Right. What have we been talking is all about the lack of dismissal? Grow up. Suck it up. We don't want to hear about it. Right. Do you feel like that that doctor Ford experience that too is that is that your take on that? Is that when you're watching her now, actually, we don't get to see her now? But it, but the idea that it was a guy. Yeah. Yeah. We heard from Utah tonight. You know? That's it. Improve anybody. Nobody change her story. So we're just gonna move on. Is that Justice? Or is that dismissal? Anna, it's a tough one. Because you know, what the senators are cleaned right now is that there's no corroborate corroboration of any of these. So that's what you keep hearing your Jeff flake say you heard some of these others are on the fence say that there's no corroboration in the FBI's report. But I'm deep that's what they were looking for disturbed by the reports yesterday that Democrats kind of insinuating because they can't really talk about these reports that are confidential that in those previous six FBI investigations there were some issues about drinking and possible misconduct. Yep. Well, do you think that would be criminal? But I mean, it just you gotta take the whole picture. Okay. So what I'm trying to get to here. And again, Pat remained, quiet. Trying to get to is. I'm not asking you to comment on the actual news events here. And I know that the Judy our news person. So I know you you want to maintain that. But I'm asking you to comment on how you feel as you're watching this kind of thing. Do you feel like like women are under peril or women are causing problems? Or what are you? What are we actually for the first time in my life? I'm mad. Okay. I'm just I'm not mad, and I feel like everyone needs to take action. That's as a woman, you're gonna have to be punished. That's where I don't feel like people have to be punished. But I it's enough. That's ryan. But that Senator was being punished for being male. Her response was how dare you say that to a woman? Well, if we're all being equal here. How dare him say that anybody does the woman not can she not handle their hatch getting yelled at by that? Samantha grow up. I mean, he, you know, what I don't think hatch would have said that to a man he wouldn't have waived demand off like that. He that's as we know as women in our lives. That's that's the thing. You do to women. Okay. Calm down road. You said Tootsie Honiara. Okay. I'd say that as a character. Thank you. But let's not forget what hatch said just right after seeing Ford's testimony. He said. She's nice looking attractive. Attractive? Yeah. Now that really bothers me it didn't use to bother me because it was the way you're supposed to just accept it anymore. Yeah. And I'm not saying we need to be militant. No. I'm just saying I'm done. So be careful. Okay. I was always careful careful around you some characters is all I'm saying. I guess I don't really get it because I didn't grow up with that. I grew up with I feel like. Jat man, being gentlemen, and boys not treating girls like that. So I don't know because I never experienced personally Orrin Hatch is an example of that day gone by any sort of there's a tone deafness about the way, he approaches this sort of thing, and he was one of the ones who was threatened to expose Anita Hill's proclivities, and you put it on context. And then he starts waving women off and tell him to grow up. Yeah. There's pressure on him because he's women are sort of attacking him in the hallway, and he feels that pressure. But and yet he's still owned off. It's kind of shopping center forever. I'll never lose in Utah. Pat. Nice talking. It was really good happy on the show today. Hey, pat. Yeah. A Republican, man. He's going to. Newsroom. Don't you? Wave me off Cape. Pat. The Ryder Cup. I'm sorry. I. Okay. Don't change the subject. Since used to run a Republican party is state of Illinois. You give me a whip count here. Do you think the Kavanagh's gonna pass on Saturday morning? Bombshells outside what we heard and this, and there is no corroboration in the reports is fifty pages on I think he'd be passes. I'm gonna tell you. I'm going to take the other side of that bet. I'm going to say Murkowski goes now, I'm gonna say flake goes no Manton goes manager may go. Yes. But then you're gonna get Murkowski and flake to go now reporting at least hausky just had a meeting with dozens of women some of them sexual assault victims themselves, and it was very emotional. And people said that they spent a lot of time with their trying to convince her to vote. No. But she has not announced yet. Hey, here's here's the political analysis. Anyway, I think if he goes down this does nothing but help Republicans in November. All right. That'd be so fired up. It's like, oh, it'll be and you saw the polling numbers and enthusiasm Republicans have caught up so politically, it's probably a better result. If he does go for Republicans, and what do you say that it sort of motivates people to come? Republicans are not the Trump. Thank the Republicans aren't motivated, this will motivate them. You always need something to go out for in town. It was ObamaCare. There's always something to go after and this will motivate the base, which is not motivated, if you get a little turn out election up a lot of these racists. All right. Thank pat. Well, set. Say goodbye to Pat. Hey, we're buddies. Did he I would never dismiss you? The party or you are a stand up guy. And that's really what it comes down to. You're one of the good ones. Pat. Thank you. Bye. Guitar. Judy. What is coming up at the top of the hour on the news or the hockey game? Okay. Thank you travel times are heavy. Inbound side of the Eisenhower is an hour twenty minutes. "There definitely could be something to that so anyway give me your thoughts on that if you have any six one seven eight six five six three three where are you other things that i'm going to be talking about today and actually the subject i'm gonna be taking up today on animal house which is moved to mondays an animal house is basically a weekly look at scandals that political scandals that have rocked the bay state very massachusetts specific you know obviously we've talked about a presidential races win it was a massachusetts candidate but but yeah we focus on massachusetts paul's getting themselves into trouble this week we're actually going to be looking at drunk driving but i mean part of the reason i brought it up was also because of the fact that marijuana licenses are sort of ago as of today and i want to talk about drugged driving as well so if you haven't checked it out go on going today's boston herald there's a story by in honiara planas in he writes about the fact that she's you know there is an insane amount of arrests that are made in these states where recreational marijuana is legalized the basically show that drugged driving totally skyrockets so the commission today began accepting applications for the first time for perspective pot shops so basically but it's not the actual application for the license it's very it's like this weird staggered step it says the applications accepted today are limited to registered marijuana dispensaries so basically these people probably already have medical marijuana operations up and running and those eligible to apply through the commission's economic empowerment program for people and businesses disproportionately impacted negatively by the prohibition of marijuana.
