"Walls weather meant to keep people out or keep the men's separated and apart have a way of falling with the thirtieth anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall at hand Holly Hubbard pressen has this perspective on the evening of November ninth nineteen eighty nine I was seated at a bar in San Francisco celebrating my birthday with friends when I looked up at the television and my jaw dropped pictured on the screen where east and west Berliners hacking away at the cement wall that had divided them for twenty eight years the jubilant scene so unexpected in my lifetime moved me to tears the eight hundred and sixty six mile long barrier system that divided east and West Germany including Berlin was supposed to stand for another fifty even one hundred years that's what Eric Honecker east Germany's last president told the nation ten months before the communist regime collapsed and he was forced to resign the prior year right a company to German friend on a visit to our family in West Berlin in her car we traveled from the very across the border into East Germany where we were confined to the heavily armed transport corridor that led to the democratic island city that was West Berlin though I traveled through the Soviet block before this was my first trip to West Berlin and the experience rattled me I had west German friends with relatives in the east who hadn't seen one another in decades not because they didn't want to but because the communist regime would not allow it fearing that such familial exchanges would undermine its ideology reflecting back on those long ago images I'm reminded of the impermanence of walls today Germany as a unified country the U. S. less so one no physical while separates Americans from one another the country is clearly divided what separates us is not cement or barbed wire but race religion class and politics if I've learned anything from the German unification thirty years ago it's that differences need not divide and that the will of the people makes for a mighty pick ax when held in a defiant collective

"I don't even know what all of that means and how it all goes together. I actually don't either following Jesus. I don't either in her, and I laughed about it. Because on our Facebook live. We did a topic where we don't know what each other are going to say, and we created a list of choosing. And something that Jessica Honecker has started in. I said, I am a feminist, and I'm pro-life, and she said there can be people have a hard time with that. I'm like both sides. Both sides will have a hard time with that. And I said, I'm okay with that because we are complex human beings. And don't tell me I can't be one thing and not the other. She said great. I am a Christian and a witch. And I said, no hold the phone. Stop this exercise went way south. I don't think you could be both things. She goes. I don't know in what I decided is that if she pursues Jesus he will stir in her in sort out anything that does not honor him, and that is not my job to convince. So I we're reddish so hard Moshi will an for you. 'cause you're telling me, you're a black and white Rufo. Oh, it's so so these conversations are very challenging for me. But what's beautiful is that we are reading books together about the bible. We. We text each other all the time about it. She'll call meow. I'll call her she posts something that's super liberal and offensive. I'll say that's crap take it down. And she'll say, you're right sorry and take it down in. So we have this beautiful relationship of we might not agree on most things, but we will engage with hurt and with mind and choose love and people have been really responsive to it. Like, whoa. I didn't know we could sit in a room and B O K and talk through these things what is the witch main. She feels like that she can bend things towards her will through positive witchcraft. Okay. So it's not which is and cauldrons. Yeah. It's kinda where my mind goes to. And then she's like meet, my friend here. She's a witch. I'm like, you're my neighbor in all my my friend which over here. Oh, I grew up with you is. So I didn't realize I had no idea that in little suburb little Newburgh, there were people that really would identify this way. I had I wonder if I know any. People who had identify like this. I don't know it takes. But that's so anti faith gospel Jesus. I know we can't bend anything towards makes us the savior. We have this power ability. And you're just like we would you tell her. I disagree with that. She knows. Okay. And so in your head. You're also like it's I can't convict your heart. I cannot your art only a Holy Spirit can do that. Yes. Yeah. Yes. Totally..

"Of whose relationship seemed to be strangely poisoned by mistrust by deception boy uh some in a some underlying untruth and ten gently to this you have taibbi jones who is playing the character of the the the lover of isabela payroll of most of the movie we see him at a distance see somebody although you know it's a he although they are connected we see them connected from a distance now the strange thing about the film is this as with all of michael honecker's work it's intriguing and disturbing and compelling somebody said to me or haven't seen happy end and i said but you kind of have because weirdly enough of all of panic his films it's the one which plays most like a collection of hanukka trump's so for example there is a bit at the beginning with a mobile phones jio footage which took me back very much to the days of betis video which i urged member introducing the on film for extreme yongsi i was going to early hanikra film very very disturbing hanikra film but an early honecker ethic there are sequences in eight in which a camera just stands and observes something happening you can't quite so what is the image be looking at that reminded me very much of a hidden buries a connection to a more in fact there is a story which connects these directly back to a more although it seems to be as an alternative world connection to a more like a sequel that's happened by turning left rather than going straight ahead so there were all these kind of recurrent themes in it that tie it back to hanneck is back catalogue and the peculiar thing is that although it in itself is a you know a well made an unsettling piece of work indeed feel like it was referring back to films in.
