"Block in the carpool. And left lane and you're backed up to the four or five over in a Monty. The 10 eastbound in Rosemead Avenue. Earlier crash has been moved out of the way and traffic though recovering from the 17 From NPR news. This's all things considered. I'm Sasha Pfeiffer and Mary Louise Kelly. And if you're like me, you have likely adopted some work from home habits during this pandemic, maybe a little more casual than you would be in the office. Well, some business leaders worried that productivity is down, among them. JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Diamond, NPR's gyms are only reports Diamond is the longest serving CEO of a major U. S Bank, and when he talks, people listen. Lately. He's been talking about the downside of working from home, he says. When people can't work together in person a certain magic is missing. He calls a creative combustion. Here he is on MSNBC recently. There's a huge value, working together to collaboration and creativity and train the younger people. This week, the bank lets some of its sales and trading staff who wanted to return to work. They have to follow social distancing guidelines like taking temperature checks and sitting 6 FT. Apart. Catherine Wild of the New York City partnership talks to a lot of finance CEOs, she says. Most have allowed employees to work from home. But like diamond, many think office culture is taking a hit. Pick training. They've got young people for whom being in the mix and seeing how senior bankers behave has been a critical part of learning the business. It's a real loss not to have them be able to be part of that. When the pandemic hit L. A based Hercules investments kept a group of course staff in the office chief operating officer Loreal MacDonald says the company takes precautions. People wear masks and sit 6 ft. Apart. But at a firm like hers, you can't always communicate through zoom. People have to respond quickly to market developments. That means that we are dependent upon one another, sometimes in a split second in order to make decisions that will have a very significant impact. Not just on individual clients, but on the company. Overall, it's clear that many employees like the flexibility of working from home in March, the Arizona medical Equipment company where Rick Castille worked as an analyst told him he could do his job at home. But there are things that you can do at home and you do home better. And in a time that works better with your balance of modern forward thinking organization would be silly not to do that. But Stanford University's Nicholas Bloom says companies pay a price when workers can't congregate in person. Bloom co authored a study of an overseas travel company. He says people at the company who were allowed to work at home got a lot more done. There are stories of just horrible distractions of people, clipping toenails and bursting into tears and fights and shouting matches in the office. They said. None of that happens at home, but that company's workers mostly performed, wrote tasks such as answering customer calls. Like JPMorgan Chase's Jamie Diamond Bloom believes thie innovation that drives growth at a company needs some in person contact. Bloom says the best ideas get exchanged during casual encounters at lunch with colleagues or chatting before a meeting. That kind of thing's actually missing video cause and it seems that that's actually really important for creativity. Blooms says. The pandemic has shown that employees can work at home, but they need to return to the office sometimes too. The challenge for companies is finding the right balance between their two while also keeping everyone safe Gyms are Oli NPR News today would have been jazz giant John Coltrane's 94th birthday. Two years before his untimely death at age 40 in 1967 young San Francisco couple heard him play and their experience was religious. They founded a spiritually community inspired by Coltrane's music. And 50. Years later, they're still preaching his gospel. NPR's Anastasia Focus made the trip to the ST John Coltrane Church. Friends on Marina King were already jazz fans on the night that changed their lives. This was back when San Francisco was the Harlem of the West, and the Fillmore district was packed with places to hear jazz on the couple's first wedding anniversary. They went to hear John Coltrane play. That night. They say the Holy Spirit walked out with Coltrane onto the stage of the Jazz workshop. I think we both slain in the spirit. It was like getting caught up in a range star way didn't know it was going to bring flood. They both came from families of creatures. But that night, they say, the experienced an awakening. Thanks to Coltrane's horn. They call it their sound baptism. John Coltrane became their Christ. Their God and his album, A Love.

"To Fit. Their belief system. And especially with the Bible, which is what I'm into more. Because I read it all You see it all the time someone has an idea that they think this is the way society should be the way. This needs to happen and then you it's. It's weird how once you have your mind made up on what you think the truth is. You can pretty much find any support in the Bible. I've had people. Argue the exact opposite. Of what the Bible clearly says even on. All kinds of moral issues, but they are just trying to make it fit. And work because they believe. Truth is. So that's why all of a sudden they're lot. Well, this didn't mean this two, hundred, forty years ago when it comes the constitution that should be changed. About that that all started from an idea that someone had that they deemed. As truth. You can you can make the text fit whatever you want to say we have we have the word. Of the Prophets. secca Peter One nineteen made more certain. and. You will do well to pay attention to it. That includes to giving the Law Moses and all of that. As to a light shining in a dark place until the day dawns and the Morning Star arises in your heart above all. You must understand. You must understand and get this straight. That no prophecy of scripture. The document I'm reading from. No prophecy of scripture came about by the prophets own interpretation. which goes to the Supreme Court. For Prophecy never had it's ours and in the Willemin. Ever. But man spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. I'm going to stand all net. And when I read this to me. This Bible is the final word. It speaks of where it all came from. The Cosmos where we came from. What to what we're doing here What should we do? And is their way out of here to us? Jason. Terminology. It's all here. Yeah. and. Then you read the fruit of the spirit is love. Joy. Peace. Here regardless of the law system, the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience kindness. Gentleness self control. When you read those things, you say that would be a great culture. Based on the word of God it would be a terrific culture. To go in there. And Start? When it says do not murder. Jesus said. Are you will be subject to judgment. Jesus said I'll tell you that anybody who hates. His fellow man is subject to judgment. Because down to the heart, but you think about how that got started on abortion. They, took they as in people who came up with this narrative they so well. Because most people you look at a little baby and you're looking at a woman's belly. You make the connection that the baby was a baby before and after Mo- most people. But what happens is you say well, but I believe it should be a woman's choice. So that's that's their fundamental argument which they're in. They're admitting the ability to choose which we believe is a god given ability. So they're taking a god given ability for my view and then they took an exception to the norm which is. What happens if a woman is raped? What you know then then. She didn't even call this to try to fit. A narrative of. To choose. So it's really an and it's not a baby till it comes out. It's just part of her tissue. So what I'm said is they had an idea. And then they start trying to make an argument based on one difficult. Because it is difficult when allman gets rate that we have a difficult situation here of course us as believers we know that God is not that he just produces life he is life. Let's take a quick break on Alan. Done event. The other night person came up said I want to thank you so much for the Pike Care. So I like awesome. You know we're sharing Jesus and she's a year. Yeah. But you introduced me to black rifle coffee. Thank you for this. Copy I don't know if it's diseases. Good guys because you guys are always Mitch I mentioned this last time. Yeah. You are very particular about your coffee. You think I, mean, that's been A. That's been a fact. The I in the woods with bill episode we did was I think you drink in a make how to make a cup of coffee? So you've been doing this. You've been at this a long.
The Promise of a New Covenant (Ezekiel 11:18-20)
"Ezekiel Chapter Eleven versus eighteen to twenty. When they come there. They were removed from it all it's detestable things and all its abominations. And I will give them one heart. And a new spirit I will put within them. I'll remove the heart of stone from their flesh and give them a heart of flesh. That they may walk in my statutes, keep my rules obey them. And they shall be my people and I will be their God. These, these verses are like. Drinking Water in a desert when it comes to reading through Zeki Lange's seeing God's. Just and righteous judgment upon sin and idolatry and immorality among his people. And yet in the middle of chapter eleven here we see this promise. That God is even in his discipline, God is accomplishing purpose and will one day restore his people to himself remove these detestable things and abominations for among them. Then, we'll have a new spirit in them. Remove the heart of stone. God says removed from their flesh I'll give them a heart of flesh that they may walk in my. Keep my rules and obey them. They shall be my people I will be their God. Now, this is one of couple of places in Ezekiel or we see prophecy. Promises of the new covenant. which by the way is what tested means Covenant between God and his people that Jesus would make possible as we get into the New Testament of the Bible. and. The book of Ezekiel in the sense especially as we read about judgment after judgment after judgment from God. Is a clear reminder. That we need God to do what we cannot do ourselves. We need. God to save us from our sins. Forgive US cleanse us from our sins. We need God to give some new spirit. Put a new spirit in us that enables us to walk in his statutes, keep his rules and obey them. We can't do that on our own where we got to be so careful. As followers of Jesus says those who've trusted in Jesus not to live like we can obey God's statutes and rules walk in his ways in our flesh on our own we need his spirit inside of us. A Forgotten, But Essential Aspect of the Doctrine of Creation
"So here is the question for today, what is a crucial but often forgotten essential about the Christian doctrine of creation what's something? That's absolutely essential to a meaningful coherent Christian doctrine of creation but that we often overlook forget. Well the doctrine of creation can be summed up in one sentence in that is that the triune God without opposition or equal and without the use of pre existing materials created the world by his will and for his good pleasure. And so. There's a lot each each one of those phrases is loaded one of the things that. Most people pay attention to is the idea that he did us. No pre existing materials a Krio Hilo. That is the reason for that is is to because God is truly sovereign over that which he created. It is not that he is one of many deities that who he happens to be the one that created the world, and that the world is made out of some kind of pre existing material are divine stuff in which he had to battle it and defeated and subdue it, which would would really impune on the docket of God's sovereignty. We don't find any of that in genesis chapter one. The thing that I would say many people forget is that last expression that he created a according to his good will and pleasure that is God has freedom he is a free gone nick would have been just as glorious if he had never created at all. It would have taken away none of His Excellency's. Throughout all eternity he had remained. The sum total reality it isn't that he got lonely in created because he was a perfect society of fellowship of Father, son and Holy Spirit that love one another with a perfect love that all of the glories and Excellencies were already experienced in a maximum way. No He created as an act of of pure grace. It is a gratuitous action. Created A world different than they one that he did if he had so chosen and if it had been according to his goodwill and good pleasure. So we want to preserve the freedom of God in creating. Because I. think that is just as essential because you do have some who thinks that God some somehow needed to create in it some creation fulfill some lack that he had and the Bible makes it very clear that neither of those things are true. That God is. Complete. Insufficient enough himself and we add nothing to his caloric. Now, we have been graciously given the privilege of glorifying him. In, but that is a gracious privilege and so I think that is something that is forgotten. The freedom of God in. Create. That's So I think that's a really good point. I might maybe a little follow up question here if we lose God's freedom and creating what do we lose about God like how how does that compromise a not only a coherent view of God but are persuasive you have got well. You for example, this means that everything God did he did by necessity being not have done? That for some reason whether it's internal or external, he was somehow compelled that he could not have done otherwise. A I think we all recognize intuitively that this puts a constraint on the character of our the the nature God in a way that doesn't sound very godlike, right? Though so It is no infringement are no restriction on. God to say that God always operates within the constraints of this nature. Words. God. Is a good. God. God is a Holy God God is a righteous God. So therefore, he always operates righteously lovingly. In a way that is pure. But within within that framework of his nature, there are an infinite number. Of others and infinite number of options available to him. He could have not saved Ken keithly. I still would have been just as glorious as he is. But he he ordained a world in which I would be six. This, this was a free act on his part. and. So regardless launch where one. COMES OUT ON. The calvinists. Debate. In everywhere non kind of in between the point is is that I think all of us want to preserve the freedom of God in this way yeah. Absolutely. Well, Dr Keithly that I think a really good answer to the question what is crucial but often forgotten essential about the doctrine of creation
What was Before the Beginning?
"Most people start reading genesis they, they don't stop to go what was happening before the beginning right in saying and she's ready. The. Question to the book, start the Genesis starts realtime action with the beginning I mean. So you're already in the flow of it. So this is kind of stepping back and saying, okay well, what was happening before that actually started? So who was there? I mean They're a bunch of stuff going on. There are a bunch of people there. was there a big you know meeting talk about it with turtles way down who was there? Yes. So The way I understand it I think the way the Bible describes it is there was nothing everything is dark for was void try to. If you can nothingness like nothing nothing nothing nothing other than got. Got The. Only thing that there is got is the only thing that is a being that is in existence in he is entirely created actually had somebody asking me question the other day here at the church. I pastor now and they said jt glad you're here I've wrestled. This is a this is a kind of an older saints who've been walking the Lord for forty fifty years. And he said to me, he said agent at this intellectual question for the entirety of my walk with the Lord. Laird, God come from. In ease asking the question like who made godwit gut come into being, and that's a very common question in the Christian response to this is God didn't come from anything didn't start anywhere. He is the thing that is probably most distinct about God in this is what we learned last year in the apostles creed is that he is the maker he is the he is the one who has unmade. His created exists entirely distinctly enough himself in Trinidadian relationship father son and Holy Spirit. So the first thing we want to say before we even get into Tyrian ISM if you want to go down that path is before anything. got. Yup. Yeah. That's and it's pivotal because specifically when we're talking about who got is reference to these first chapters of Genesis, we often use the language of creator creature distinction right exactly, and that might be one of the most important distinctions. Bible makes in that we have in theology is that God is entirely. In of himself yeah. Absolutely. that. He is qualitatively different. Than anything else he is utterly unique. As. One of the ways when I teach this that I get people to sort of have this hit home as I say, right you gonNa make a chart and on one side you're gonNA. Label call them things that are created and then on the other side you're GonNa label it things that are created and then on the left hand side things that are created for you right? Right God. And then on the right hand side where you're going to write. Everything else like there's there's nothing that was not the did not That does not have got us its origin. Yeah. Yeah. So We. Start there with talking about God is Creator in Genesis clearly displaying this, that God is creator everything else is created but who is this guy jt? You mentioned it kind of when you were talking about that. This is trinity right God his father son and Holy Spirit, and so are we talking about three different gods up they're all discussing with one another are we in collaborating with one another are we talking about one God who has three different roles? Who are we talking about when we're talking about this God who is Father Son and Holy Spirit? Yes. I think there's just clues that are given to us in genesis some people like to go to genesis worn twenty six or the texts says, let us which shows some kind of divine plurality. There's lots of ways to to interpret probably better for us on suggest to go to the New Testament Charles spurgeon has analogy where he talks about God has always been trinity, but it's kind of like walking into a room where there's furniture everywhere in the old. Testament, the lights are off in a new testament. You're turning the lights on none of the furniture was placed there during the New Testament it was there the whole time, but you can now see it better. So canonical, it's actually probably better for us to to move our way backwards if God is if there's only one God. In he is trinity and that's what we see clearly in the New Testament in the churches confessions than that must be the same God who existed before creation, and so the way that we understand Trinitaria relations in the New Testament is that there are three persons in one God. Our definition for Trinidadian is is that God eternally exists as one essence in three distinct persons, each of whom are fully God yet, there's only one God so. Policy for a second. Could you could you go back and say our definition of the trinity is just kind of repeat that real slowly? Yes. So our definition of the Trinity is God. Eternally exists supposing there that he that's what we've just been talking about. He is eternal. He has not come into being he is the Creator and maker of all things. So so always been always will be it's right. Okay and and never will never came into existence never has ceased existing never will cease to exist
My Kingdom is not of this World (John 18:36)
"John Chapter Eight, Verse Thirty Six. Jesus answered. My Kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting that I might not be delivered over to the Jews, but my kingdom is not from the world. When I grade verse that just? Contrast the Kingdom of Jesus and the kingdoms of this world, and it's really a contrast. We see all throughout the gospels. You just think about the differences even as we are in an election season in the United States for those who listen to this podcast and live in the US in the middle of a presidential election and like all the things that are happening that are that are pretty focused on our country in this world. So think about the difference between Jesus Kingdom and the kingdoms of this world like. The Kingdoms of this world are built on like appeasing catering to the crowds. Keenum of Jesus is built on like counting the cost of following him in such a way that the crowds for the most part left that happened all the way back in John Chapter six. The road to Jesus's kingdom is not paved by like political hostility toward people. It's paved by spiritual humility that's counter the kingdoms of this world. Entrance into Jews, kingdom comes not by asserting yourself by denying yourself. Like those who are citizens of, kingdom are not people who show their power like with the weapons of this world. That's the whole point of what he's saying here they're the people who put their trust in God's word. And all of this is right before Jesus is delivered over to be crucified like. Alternately the inauguration of Jesus Kingdom is not set in motion when he is elected. It's set in motion when he is executed. When in the? Next chapters he will be crowned with thorns on his head as he suffers for sin we committed. Cheeses we praise you. As. The perfectly unique. Unprecedented. And a worthy only worthy king. And we pray for the privilege. Of. Being part of your kingdom, we exalt you as king. We Exalt you as Lord. We Exalt you as savior of our sins. We Exalt you as conqueror of. Death. We Exalt you as the one who is syndicated in seated at the right hand of the Father Right. Now, all glory beat your name Jesus our king, we worship you we exalt you we surrender to you. We gladly lay down our lives before you in me say thank you. Thank you for letting us part of your kingdom. Thank you for making us ambassadors. For you the king on a picture that we see in scripture that were embassador of yours representing us, help us to represent you. Well, we pray help us to live according to your character and your word, help us to reflect your love and your truth and your kindness and your compassion gun make more and more like, Jesus. Our King, we pray and We are exhilerated when we think about how you have made us heirs. Of Your Kingdom, how the Holy Spirit as a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance that one day, we will inherit your kingdom. So we pray like you taught us to pray Jesus our Father in heaven hallowed, be your name, your kingdom come your will be done. Your will be done in our lives. Your will be done in our families. Your will be done in our churches. Your will be done on earth we pray as it is in heaven. Jesus we praise you as our king re pray you'd help us to live. Ultimately not for the kingdoms of this world, but for your kingdom. In the name of Jesus our King We pray. Amen. Even as I pray that I want to mention that just finished writing a book actually about how do we glorify Jesus King in the middle of a presidential election so just a short buck called before you vote seven questions Christians should ask before they vote. I'm just so burdened to help. One another glorify Christ with our vote as citizens in this country for those who live in the United States and to do it. Who in in unity with the church told walk through a politically divisive climate in time. Growing together with unity in the church around Christ. So if you're interested in diving into that short book, I invite you to go to radical dot net to find out more information about before you vote and I hope it will serve you well just to make clear in this book I have not desire to support or denounce or even hint towards supporting or announcing update their candidate like my. My name is not really who wins on election day. My name is where you and I stand in Christ on election day and where we stand as the church and not just on that day but in the days thereafter so I hope it will serve you well if you have an opportunity to dive
The Spirit Will Lead Us into Truth (John 16:1315)
"John Chapter Sixteen versus thirteen through fifteen. When. The spirit of truth comes Jesus says he will guide you into all the truth. For he will not speak on his own authority but whatever he hears he will speak and he will declare to you the things that are to come. He will glorify me for he will take what is mine and declare it to you. All of the father has is mine therefore I said he will take what is mine and declare it to you. Are you hearing this? This is an amazing promise that just giving to his disciples in John Chapter, sixteen of what will happen when the spirit the Holy Spirit comes upon them, and for all of us who've trusted in Christ, this is already reality like the spirit of God lives in us. So listen to this when the spiritual comes. Now think about this, the spirit who is in you, he will guide you into all the truth. Like he will lead you to truth like think truth valuable truth is to bank your life on that, which is real that which is true about God that was true about you. That was true about the world like not there's no fake news. Truth, this is not just truth about today. This is timeless truth that persist all attorney. He will guide you in all truth for he will speak of his own authority. But whatever here's he will speak he will declare to you the things that are come and the whole picture is he's talking about the father, the son and the spirit here he says, do says the spirit will glorify me for he will take what is mine so all the belongs to Jesus he'll take it and declare it to you. And so what belongs to Jesus while I, fifteen says, all the father has is mine. So follow the logic here. All Truth God the father has belongs to Jesus and the Holy Spirit we'll take the belongs to Jesus, which is all that had father has and he will make it known to you declare it to you. Just let that soak in. That that should make us all right now just. To cod in prayer like in the spirit right now according this word and to say. Bring it on Oh God we want to know. Your truth we want to know and understand your word. We want to know and understand what is real and true about you. We want to know you. You are truth you are we read it in John Fourteen Jesus you are the way the truth and the life we WanNa know use of spirit of God help us open. All truth more true today more truth the next day more truth the next day through your word by the power of your spirit. Oh. God, we ask this. Believing knowing one hundred percent guaranteed based on your promise in John Chapter Sixteen versus thirteen through fifteen that the spirit will lead us into truth. We pray these things in Jesus name. Amen.
The Test of Faithfulness
"We've been talking about the different kinds of testings. That we go through that really are not bad things. A May seem to be bad while we're going through them because they're not real comfortable but uh, we usually learn later on. We, look back and we realized they were some of the best things. Ever happened to us in our life. and. I've been teaching off of the principle that before promoted, we always have to pass us. Where we're at and a lot of times we pray for promotion without realizing we're actually praying for tests. If you know if you pray for patients, you're GONNA get trials. If you pray to be more loving, you're going to get more people around you that are hard to love. I mean, it's true. You say we we don't just learn things. Because we pray for them. We learn things because God gives us something to practice on, and so we have all this wonderful fruit of the spirit in us. When the Holy Spirit comes to live in you all the fruit of the spirit comes in seed farm. And I love what the Bible says and. I John. It. Talks about how? The. Divine. Sperm of Almighty God is planted. Our spirit. And so I always like to say were pregnant with God. The divine sperm which Jesus Christ. The seat of God comes to live in us at the new birth. And so. A Sea of everything that God is is in each and every one of us, but we know that seed has to be watered. And so we do what we water it with the water of the word. And it has to have the right amount of sunshine. The right amount of rain. And it grows little by little little. And Pretty. Soon. Good things begin to pop out to you. But if you think about a pregnant woman, you can have a skinny little thing that is all excited and says I'm pregnant and you think well, you don't look pregnant to me. Sometimes, that's the way we are as new believers. We tell people. Oh, you won't believe what happened. They'll think well. You don't look any different sometimes in the very beginning, you don't even need. But something's happening inside. And the more that happens inside pretty soon, it's going to pop on the outside. And then people are going to begin to see it amen. But What you have to be in the meantime is what I want to talk about this afternoon. That's faithful. One person wants to hear my message. You. Know Faithfulness is on the endangered character list. I don't know if you realize it or not. But. We're. In serious trouble. In our society today. because. The things that we should be displaying the most similar to be disappearing more and more and more. All the time. and. I was talking to somebody about a week ago and I said I am so glad. That I got to be alive. In the days when people still had integrity. And if somebody did a job most of the time, they did it with excellence. When we were more concerned about quality than quantity. When even people that weren't quote saved? We're still. Pretty Nice. When people weren't so rude. When men didn't curse in front of women just out of respect. On. Not that they should be using bad language in front of anybody. But even if it was somebody who was not a believer and they used bad language, they wouldn't do it in front of a woman. There was respect. In the world and a certain amount of morality even among people that didn't claim. To Be Christians. I'm glad that I lived in the days when it was fairly common to hear people talking about God. I'm really glad that I didn't miss those times because I still have a lot of that in me and it makes me so sad. To see where our society. How far it's fallen in I would say especially the last thirty years. We're just on a steady decline. And I can tell you if anybody is going to model good character to the world, it's going to have to be the believers. because. The only place we can even hope to be taught that anymore throwing the word of God. And it's something we need to do a lot of teaching on. In our churches. People in always just need to hear how God wants to bless them. That's a good message. And it's wonderful to know how much God loves you and. What a great plan he has for your life but sometimes, we just need a little row royal spanking. A man. We just need to be reminded that we need to be. Hey, according. To Biblical
Jesus is Our Life (John 5:19)
"John Chapter Five. Verse Nineteen. So Jesus said to them truly truly I say to you the Sun can do nothing of his own accord but what he sees the Father Doing For whatever the father dies that the sun does likewise. Oh I love this verse like think about what Jesus is saying here he's describing how he relates to the father. He says, the Sun can do nothing of his own accord. So Jesus is saying I do nothing by myself independent of the father this is. Glimpse into the Trinity and how the Trinity Works Son can do nothing of his own accord. But only what he sees the father doing for whatever the father does that the sun does likewise. So there's this union between the father and the son, the son operating in total alignment with and total accord with the father knowing. So the father is working and the son is working and they're working together. So there's obviously just so much here to think about when it comes to the Trinity and. The mystery of the Trinity and what what she says after this, all throughout John Chapter five as he talks about his authority and and his relationship to the father. But here's here's what I want to encourage you with today. Even as I'm encouraged by this because for all of us who've trusted in Jesus, he lives in us his spirit the Holy Spirit there's a third person of the trinity dwells inside of you dwells inside of me is directing, leading, guiding us through filled with the holy, Spirit. And so how do we live? While based on John Five nineteen, I wanNA live in total accord with the son and the father and the spirit like I wanna do whatever he desires me to do I wanna work in tandem with conjunction with him I want him to lead and guide and direct, and this is what we'll see in John fifteen apart from. Jesus, we can do nothing. Nothing, we are totally dependent on him. So the Christian life is is truly designed to mean that Christ is your life. Your Life is in Christ crisis and you and you speak as Christ speaks you love as Christ loves you live as Jesus lives. So God we pray for this Guy Braver there's life today and pray for this over every single person listening right now who's trusted and you that their life would indeed be your life. That they would not see like their faith is kind of. Compartmentalized your trust in Jesus over here and then work over there and family over there and all these other things in life over here early. No maybe we see you Jesus our life maybe follow you. As. May We align our lives with your word with your spirit in every way please direct our words today Jesus direct thoughts. Just direct our emotions, our feelings. Just, direct our decisions director our actions direct the way we relate to people around us whether it worker at home or wherever it might be or may your life our life May Galatian to twenty reality. We've been crucified with Christ. We no longer live Christ lives in us the life we live in the flesh we live by faith in the son of God who loved us and gave himself for us. Oh, help us to do nothing today of our own accord. But to live working with you your power working in us for our good for others. Good. All timidly for your glory Jesus. Be, lured over every facet of our life. Jesus you are our life. I pray you help us to live every single Sackett in that reality. In your name we pray. Amen.
Letters Q&R: How Much Context Do We Really Need?
"Start with the question Fr Thompson in Australia Hey. Guys I'm Tamsin from Kalinga in Australia. Now that we know that there's a lot of interpretation involved in understanding what the lead is trying to say is this still a role for devotional reading in our lives? Can I pick up my Bible and just read a few S.'s and meditate on them and pray about them? And get value out of that without having to do a really intense Bible study look commentaries and expert opinions and cultural stuff. Yes. Thompson the the very practical question. Yeah I thought it'd be good to kind of start with us because we have done a lot of really focused work on method and putting on our our learning and study hats. So to speak you know when we read the letters so I think it is good to back up and to say that study Mo- intense study mode is, of course, not the only way to engage your Bible I. Think it's an important way that It's important that we grow in, but it's it's not the only way and actually I always appreciate this question even though I'm. A Bible Nerd, I'm guessing you do to. Chris. Because our temperament is already given to study the Bible really intense way but it's important to say out loud that that's not the only way. Yeah. You didn't engage the Bible. Yeah. I think what I really like about this question is that it emphasizes integrating scripture indoor lives in a devotional way. So I think yeah. Maybe some people tend too much towards studying not integration but I think that like devoted study and devoted response to scripture have to go hand-in-hand. So I, do like that a lot about this question that. Emphasizes that may be the Holy Spirit could be working through multiple ways as we read scripture. The big thing about not seeing Bible or the estimate letters as a grab bag you know of of inspirational one liners I was not trying to say that you shouldn't look for amazing sentences and paragraphs that meme and memorize them in the letters i. think that's actually a really great idea i. do it myself. But the point is is when we are due when we are reading and studying in that mode to the neglect of reading a whole letter as a whole or at least trying to do some mirror reading, which is looking for the situational background, the letters to I think then that sorta like the carts drive in the Horse Yeah. where, what I want to get out of the letter is does not a charitable way to say it but it's my desires what's driving the agenda for the letter as opposed to letting the authors agenda and what they're trying to say, let let that drive how I read engage with it. So both modes are important that what you're saying I really affirm that too. Yeah both mountains. But yeah, like being aware of the whole literary context and knowing that to really understand communication the more context we have the better the threat. Yeah. That's just like a natural principle cam occasion if it's ancient communication than that requires a little more work, right? Like if I don't understand what you say I can just ask you. Yeah you're right here. But if we don't understand what Paul says, we have to figure out some other ways to get contact cats right. I WanNa know the genealogy of the word. Devotional. The way to describe a way of reading the Bible a devote devotional time or devotional reading. Yeah. That is interesting temps a new use that phrase never lots of people use it before and I think it refers to a certain way of reading the Bible that has developed I think in Europe and the West after the printing press namely sitting by yourself in the morning reading the Bible, not in mode but just in. Listening for something personal from. God. About ten to twenty minute chunks. Yeah. Yeah. Pervert early in the morning with Cup of Tea Right? Is that does the yeah I think devotional means do that's probably yeah how I understand too and there's a good side of that that maybe is rooted in the word of the word devote devoting our whole selves to God but I don't know if that's where that comes from it really is. That reflective listening but I think the dangerous side of that is that sometimes if we're doing devotional reading, we're just really quick to jump to response or application without asking what was happening in the original letter or what what the context was it all yeah. Yeah. I think the basic way is we're not trying to replace one mode of studying the Bible with another way of reading like what we're saying is we need. A. Balance. Yeah, and as you balance a more contextual reading of the letters with a more personal integrated, you said earlier devotional reading I think what you find is your own personal takeaways or the one liners that you do get you know from the test letters they don't become less meaningful. They become more meaningful. Yeah. Because you actually know the the context of the paragraph of wherever secure. So that kind of thing. So thanks.
Join Us in Prayer for Our Nation
"To join us for the call center. I'm John. Stonestreet, this is great for. Christians should be among those most deeply concerned about the divided state of our nation left versus right mass. No mass reopened versus stay at home virtual school versus in person raised politics police abortion religious liberty not to mention the remainder of what certain to be brutal presidential campaign. The issues we face range from essential to non-essential on essential matters, we should mourn deception and vowed to fight. For the truth on non essential matters we should mourn and hope to overcome division God's people can neither stay on the sidelines nor run away from the struggle instead knowing there is no hope other than Christ. We must ask onto mercifully powerfully mobilize us is people to advance that which is true and good if Christians are to speak with clarity courage and confidence and to be the. Of Truth and love and a world of Noise Echo Chambers, then we'll need to be prepared but even perfectly crafted arguments cannot replace Shut Colson would say the church being the Church speaking cannot replace being and to be the people that God calls us to be right now, we must rely on prayer. That's why each and every Wednesday morning between all the twelfth of November, the fourth, and that's the morning after the twenty twenty election the Colson center will be hosting a national prayer time the a Webinar we want you to join US each and every week to pray first and foremost for God's mercy. But that he would revive his church that he would bring about a renewal of righteousness that he would empower us to courageously offer protection for the most vulnerable to champion reconciliation across our deepest divides and that he would. Allow us to be instruments in the sustaining of religious freedom and the recovery of the family in our nation. Each prayer time will feature a devotional challenge and a prayer by Christian leaders such as Oz Ganesh Johnny Eric's Totta focus on the family President Jim Daly Woodside Bible Pastor Chris Brooks and watermark pastor Todd Wagner as well as at Stecher from the Billy Graham Center and the Heritage Foundation President Keiko James Now due to the limited capacity of zoom there will be limited live spots each week available to everyone who registers However, each weeks recording will be sent to anyone who registers so come to breakpoint dot org for more details and Fiji's Paul tells us that we don't wrestle against flesh and blood but against the rulers, the authorities, the cosmic powers over this present darkness against the spiritual forces of evil in heavenly places when people see us their enemies, it's difficult to remember that they aren't our enemies. So what we need to do as Paul Instructs this put on the former of God Faith Truth Righteousness Peace Salvation the word of God. And he says praying at all times in the spirit with all prayer and supplication keeping alert with all perseverance making supplication for all the Saints, and the Book of acts the earliest church activity we read off is prayer thousands of people from completely different backgrounds came together in one mind one art in prayer with one accord. That's what acts chapter one, verse fourteen and Chapter Two versus forty. Two seven says than what happened with the Holy Spirit moved in the world was never the same in fact, every spiritual revolution in history. With some kind of unified persevering prayer the very first outpouring of the holy. Spirit. In acts to the great awakenings, the businessman's revival and the Welsh revival story after story, you read the same thing people prayed God's spirit moved on the other hand every Christian history who was able to persevere and righteousness. Temptation or persecution without seeing revival in their lifetime they also did that through prayer. Our prayer of course cannot force God's hand but are only way forward is to seek his will together are purse can't control God. But we can invite him to change our hearts and minds including our own gods always working in our lives whether we realize it or not. But something powerful and world changing happens when people pray for God's spirit to move. The, Great Jonathan Edwards urged his fellow pastors to quote be much in prayer and fasting both in secret and with one another it is God's will. He said that the prayers of his saints shall be great and the principal means of carrying on the designs of Christ's kingdom in the world. When God has something to accomplish for his church, it is with his will that there should precede it the extraordinary prayer of his people Paul even tells us to pray for all things at all times for sesame chapter five specifically for our leaders both spiritual and secular as what the

How to Read the New Testament Letters as a Whole
"This conversation is about how to actually read the New Testament letters as literary holes care from beginning to end you. You could have broke my brain talking about these letters being written and community. Yeah. Let's good. Yeah. New Appreciation for the lettuce come from Paul and his team team. Yeah, and there's a proscribed involved likely and it's just a new category, but it's really helpful for me to imagine that. And bring that in to what what does that mean. For this to be God's Word it's easier. Just imagine God zapping dude who transcribes something from the holy. Spirit Paul's. Meditating and praying in his study alone. Yeah. And they just here's the word of the Lord. To Talk. Feel more complex. But why can't God work in that way too. He clearly has. Yeah, we're, imagining. The scenarios from the actual data in the letters. You know that he names co senders yet co authors just not standard in first century letters. Yeah. There you go. So there are the product of Paul and his missionary teams in the working out the content over the course of years, and then as they travel around the roads on where we're GONNA go now is a little more practical and how to which is strategies and tools to actually read the letters and stuff. And learning how to identify what's important and things like that. So the first type of approach is just to understand the form of first century letters. I still remember learning how to like be taught how to write a letter. was, given. Template. Put. Certain things. Certain points on the page, the date upper left if in a homemade is your name. Yeah. I remember it felt weird to me. What would you put that information up at the? Left. and You write your name and address remember being like, what is it my address on the envelope? Why do I need? Yeah. Stuff like that. Do you ever do that? I can't even remember the last time. I actually wrote A. Paper letter but you. But if you ever opened up like we're document, yes, that's right and there's templates. Yeah. There's a letter typically, you're right I've done those. There's a business letter. Typically thing is I, don't create a I. Disease Tendencies of the one that's within page. Say there's a template for how you write letter. That's right and there was a template or templates. So here, we'll just summarize it in the most basic form. It's pretty intuitive. It's not rocket science angel letters in the centuries before especially in around the time of the postles you begin, the first words is your name. And then the receiver. So this called the opening address, you identify yourself who writing to and usually use some form of the Greek. Word Chorus, which means grace or favor to say, hello grace to you. So Paul to the church, and so and so Greysteel. There's almost always some little line of giving thanks to the gods for what after the opening address. After the opening, there's follows second main part of the form which is called the thanksgiving. Co you give thanks to the Gods I hear that you're in good health i. give thanks to the guts like then you get the body of the letter and then you get the closing. Letter, which is usually saying, hi to people if you want to travel plans a final prayer for the well-being or health or sometimes appraised the gods and then whatever PS post manner. So opening opening address, thanksgiving prayer just kind of a formality of sorts. And then get into it. Here's one Martin letter getting all the content. and. Then the closing that's right. And what you've got here is just a charts of like all of Paul's all the new letters and how they do this. And in the opening here like you've got First Second Thesselonians, collisions prescription you've got all the letters. And then you've got columns. Yeah, and you fill them out. So you've got Senator Collins Copied and pasted. The opening paragraph, Paul's the sender Yup. He gives himself the title usually. He does it and I the second Thesselonians. The next call movers called it the. Call the description. So the opening like here's what I am. Let me describe why that's right. It's important Dorian. Yeah. Yeah. So in other words when Paul the most basic form would be Paul Tucson. So yeah, he actually not one of his letters that way. He almost always adds a description of himself. Sometimes short, sometimes long he often names the group that produced a letter and then it comes from, they'll named people. So that's the first thing he He rarely puts just his name, usually his name in other people's names, and he usually describes himself with long or short descriptions, and so here's the basic point. Is that if you start comparing all the different beginnings of the New Testament letters, you'll notice when Paul or Peter or John is taking the. Forum and tweaking adapting it to the unique purposes of that letter. That's the basic idea.
"Acts Chapter One. Is really cool and really confusing not for us, but. Certainly would have been for the disciples on one occasion while Jesus was eating with. X One verse four by the way I should have said that sorry acts chapter one verse four in IV, twenty eleven. On one occasion while he was eating with them. He I'm sorry I can't skip over that phrase, but I didn't plan on one occasion. Not a special occasion. Just, just any old Sunday morning. Any old Monday afternoon. You know on one occasion. He would give them the instructions that would really explained to them his kingdom in a way they'd never seen. Any David the greatest promise of the greatest gift that they would ever. That they would ever know. Okay on one occasion. We'll have to go a little faster than this if we're going to get through it on one occasion while he was eating with them. This is Jesus eating with his disciples. He gave them this command. Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift. Wait for the gift. My father promised what you've heard me. Speak About for John Baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit in a few days you will receive the greatest gift, and it's not gonna come in the form of a car. But then this this, this is the part I want us to jump from today and we have. We have a lot of ground to cover, but from here then they gathered around him and asked him. Here's what they wanted to know. He's speaking about the gift that he wants to give them the holy. Spirit he's already died on the cross risen from the dead. He's about to send to have, but he said I'M GONNA. Give you a gift and you have to wait, and then they gathered around. The Nasscom Lord argue at this time at this time. Empowered by His Spirit - Luke 4:1
"Luke chapter four verse one. Jesus full of the Holy Spirit. Returned from the Jordan was led by the spirit and the Wilderness for forty days, being tempted by the devil notice, and this is a huge theme both in the Gospel of Luke and the book of acts which Luke. Writes, notice that twice in this one verse we see the spirit in relationship to Jesus. The Holy Spirit Jesus full of the Holy Spirit returned from the Jordan, and was led by the spirit in the Wilderness for forty days being tempted by the devil. So full of the Holy Spirit being led by the spirit, and even into the Wilderness, where he is tempted by the devil, and these three temptations that we read about in Luke chapter four and Jesus overcomes them all. because. He is full of the Holy Spirit because he is walking in step with the Holy Spirit. You just think about how this theme progresses not just in Jesus life, but then when we think about the book of acts, you'll receive power. Jesus says when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, you'll be my witnesses. The Holy Spirit comes at pentecost like totally turns everything upside down just as Jesus had promised everything in the Christian, life hinges on the Holy Spirit of God. Everything when we come to faith in Christ, it's because the Holy Spirit of God is working in our minds, and our hearts, opening our eyes, and our hearts to trust in Jesus, and then from that point from the point of salvation. We are filled with the Holy Spirit God puts his spirit inside of us. This is the promise from his Zeki Chapter Thirty six. Put a new spirit in you. You. This is what Jesus promised throughout the Gospels I will give you my spirit. This is what we say and our church every single Sunday when we leave just saying I will be with you always to the end of the age. So how is Jesus with us? He is with us by his spirit in us, so let this verse Luke Chapter. Four verse one be reminder to you today, Christian! That you. Are Not called to live today? A natural life. You are called to live a super natural life. Empowered, not by your flesh are not by what you can manufacture. Or make happen on your own. You are called to live today by the power of the Holy Spirit of God who lives and dwells in you. Oh God. Help us to live today full of your Holy Spirit. To Walk. In. Step with your Holy Spirit to do all that we do today directed by Your Holy Spirit. To help us to see our lives this way not as natural but as supernatural. Everything we do guide our every thought our every desire. Are every decision or every word. In everything from home to work. To interactions with people who don't know you to interactions with brothers and sisters in Christ. Lord and all that we do when we're alone. When we're around others, direct lead guide us by Your Holy Spirit, we pray. May We live today just as Jesus live full the Holy Spirit? We be led by Your Spirit, and when we face temptation all day long today, God we pray for your power to overcome temptation for your power, your supernatural power to resist sin, and to walk in step with your spirit, and we pray that your spirit would do what you've promised. We would be able to do through the power of your spirit enabled us to be witnesses today to who Jesus is. What Jesus has done for the salvation of people around us. Oh God help us to live a spirit filled life today, a supernatural life today and every single day we pray transform the way we view our lives. According to your spirit in us in Jesus name, we pray.
Waiting in Faith - Luke 2:25-32
"Luke chapter, two versus twenty, five, thirty two. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, and this man was righteous and devout, waiting for the constellation of Israel and the Holy Spirit was upon him. and. had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Christ. And he came in the spirit into the temple, and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him, according to the cost of the law. Simeon took him up in his arms and blast God, and said Lord Now you are leading your servant depart in peace, according to your word for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all people's light for revelation to the gentiles, and for glory to your people, Israel. I love the story. Of Simeon even reading Luke. Shepherdess like Christmas in July, this is so good reading about Jesus birth, and then to come to the story of this man, who, for years was waiting for the constellation of Israel, who had been told that he would not see death before he had seen the Christ the Messiah the coming King just imagine that like day after day after day in your life waiting, waiting for this promise that is coming confident that his promise will come, but not knowing when that might happen. and then finally seeing the fulfilment of that promise what joy after years and years and years of waiting to have that joy rush to hold Jesus, Christ the Messiah and your hands. And I I read this and I. Just I think about. Different circumstances that different ones of us are walking through in a sense that we're all walking through in the middle of the span dimic waiting for it to subside waiting for a vaccine waiting for whatever resolution might come in the months year years ahead. Not Knowing when that will be like we're waiting I, think about. Who just in different ways you're awaiting like you're in a time where you long for something right now you have a desire for something right now, and you are having to wait. This is certainly been the case for us. As we were waiting to adopt our child, who we were just a few days away from going to pick up until Cova hit, and we have been waiting for months now and don't know how long the waiting will last, but I know we're not the only ones in that boat, and so we pray Oh God. We we confess we have a hard time waiting in many ways like we long for your blessing in certain ways like now God. We long in our family for this child to come into our home God. And I know, others are waiting in different ways longing for this or that longing for this person for relief from this struggle for your answer to this prayer, and so we pray as Simeon like way give us faith and hope and trust and strength and joy in the middle of the waiting. Even as we long for the day, when are waiting will be over in an ultimate sense. Jesus. We are waiting for your return. We long for your return. We long for you to bring an end to sin and suffering and death in this world so many ways. Oh God, we long for that day so bringing about we pray normally we wait with hope. We wait with anticipation for your return when you will make all things new and re praise you. That has been revealed to us that you are coming. I don't know if that will be before any one of US dies, but we know you're coming back with trust in you. We put all of our hope in U.. N. refined in even are waiting in this way we find joy then we find strength, which we find confidence for whatever the next day holds because we know that one day. All things will be made new, so we will wait with joy and trust with faith, and with hope in you, just like semi did day after day after day, and we look forward to the exhilaration to the rush. Wind are waiting will be over when we will see your face revelation twenty two four. And Behold Your glory, our faith turn to site. Hasten the coming of that day in grant us, we pray patients strength joy in the waiting in Jesus name, we pray.
Matt Dillahunty & Scott Clifton: Christian Husband and Atheist Wife
"Let's try Josh in Tennessee. Area There Josh. Hi, this is Josh. You're almost got mad. How are you josh? Hi. I'm. Just wanted I. Actually my life wanted me to call in she's. She's an atheist. I'm. I'm a Christian and so you know. so she's she's. She's really on top of her. Bible, knowledge and And so we're always kind of you know. She's trying to prove God and I'm trying to prove that it's it's the. So her. Yeah I just I just kind of I kind of feel like there's so many. Different personal experiences with with God. that that kind of Kind proves that. That he does exist and Even, we can't see him. But we can certainly. Feel that he is, he's around and in my opinion. How would your wife respond to that she? Basically. Just says that. You got to prove it. and. You mentioned you mentioned personal experiences. You mentioned personal experiences with God I'm wondering if you could give an example of a personal experience with God, and how you know that it's a personal experience of God, because there are people who claim personal experiences with all kinds of gods and with alien abductions and other. How do we know that because you've experienced something that you think is an experience with God that you're right? Prayer and just going kinda going through the motions. Basically, it's you know when obviously everyone has their hard times and everyone has has good times, and I'll let me fallen on hard times. Read you know we. Just. My personal experience I've. You know there's there's You Know God is always proven himself to. You. Know to help me. In the end. So any struggle that had. been really me down completely but I've always. Came out better on the other side yeah. So I understand what you believe happened when I was Africa's. How can we know that's what happened like? You think that God has helped you God spoke to you and you've had some experience God's help you in trying times. How do we show that that's true? Not just you think that God has helped you in those trying to. Well, it's I guess. It's. You. Get that feeling I. Don't know you ever heard of. God bombs like Kinda like the. migos! was bumped channels. You just kind of just get that overwhelming feeling that he's there and yes, so for the record I'm a former Southern Baptist who was going to be a preacher, and who has stood in church, and while praising and singing I've had God bumps goosebumps. EUPHORIA BEEN ECSTATIC convinced that I was in the presence of Holy Spirit. But that's what I was convinced at the. And when investigating and it turns out that I can't demonstrate that that was true. There's no good reason to think it was true. So a couple of occasions here of asked you. How would you know that this is true? And you just keep coming back with the you're convinced. I mean how could all all? It's got jumping because he may have a different take on this but Hawkins. Scott and I know that when you experience God, you're actually experienced God, and not just saying you're experiencing go. I guess that's based on on. You know it's a I would say we you have the. Believe in the Bible and I consider the Bible history, but it's. Don't did all the way from From the old Old Testament New Testament sold. It's basically basically history book. and. you know a lot of the things that? Happened in the Bible reaching kind of some. You can use in our personal experiences and. And I and I do I. Do know that my wife. I obviously pointed out the scriptures that are you know are bad and stuff like that and I get all that you know what about the ones that aren't true like when you go to genesis and the order of events in creation, don't match up with what science says. The order of events would be. Doesn't that Kinda show that that's not accurate. I'm I san as far as you know but we really don't long. What really happened in the beginning? So I mean, but we know there was never a time where there was one man and one woman whose names we knew who were. The originators and progenitor of the entire human species. We know that's not true. Well, we don't. Do, go ahead Scott? Yes. Sure so a Josh a couple of things. Stood out in in what you said. Was that You know based on your experiences? Whenever you've had a hard time, it was God that lifted you up again. Are you familiar with? Confirmation bias this this this biased that we do where we kinda count hits and ignore the MRS, when it comes to interpreting data in light of what we already believe like like. If you're driving on the road and you have this, you have this belief that Asians are bad drivers right anytime. Somebody cuts you off and they happen to be Asian you'RE GONNA. GonNa go see see I, told you. Asians were bad drivers, but you're exploring the hundreds of times. Somebody cuts you off and they're not Asian or the hundreds of times. Somebody doesn't cut you off and they are Asian do. Do you know that that concept where we we kinda? Pick out what fits with our previously existing worldview when we ignore the rest. On my idea I mean I i. See what you're saying that. You know yeah, so. Do you think it's? Possible that the your doing that. I mean when you say that every time you've had a hard time in life God lifted you up again. Is it possible that you're remembering all the times that maybe you prayed and you felt like that prayer was answered, but you're forgetting the hundreds more times when you're having a hard time and God didn't answer you, and maybe maybe you explain that away. Away by saying God works in mysterious ways or got has a lot of people to take care of or God wanted me to learn a lesson from this, but doesn't it seem like we live in a world? That's indistinguishable from God, not existing at all. Would you be saying the same thing if you were a refugee family in in Saudi, Arabia or You see what I'm saying.
How Your Mind Affects Your Outlook on Life
"How much thought have you ever given to your thoughts? Do. You ever think about what you're thinking about. If you find yourself in A. Bad mood low mood emotionally. You feel like you're really getting. Down in the dumps getting discouraged. Why don't you take a few minutes and stop and think about what you're thinking about? And you'll find that. The way you feel is connected to the way you're thinking. Are you aware of how much your thoughts affect every area of your life. They affect the words you speak your moods, attitudes relationship with God, yourself and other people and every decision on every behavior that you make. And No. To, think whatever falls in your head. You can do your own. thinking. You can do your own. thinking. I'll go slow. You can do your own thinking. The. Reason why it's quiet is because this is something we never think about. We never think about how we think. You know we just wake up in the morning. The Devil says you're depressed. You. Just get right in agreement with him on depressed. Basically it's GonNa be a lousy day. You Get up the first thing you say to somebody who's just going to be lousy day. We have to. Learn to recognize. The lives of Satan. And to understand that more than any other thing, he uses our mind. He lies to US brings deception. into our lives. He tries to steal everything from us that Jesus came to give us. and. We can't just sit passively by and wish. We didn't feel this way and. Hope something happens. You know that kind of hope really isn't hope at all. Hope is expecting that something good is going to happen. He's not well, I hope God does something. You know the Bible says that the Kingdom of God has suffered violence and the violent. Take it by force. And I love that the Kingdom of God has suffered attack and the energetic. Take it by force. Is a better translation, and so we need to stop just thinking that everything good is just GonNa fall on us and we need to realize that God is giving us a a life plan. In the Bible. He, said I am the way and so you might say in here is the way to live. You can't vent it. Doesn't matter if you like it or not. God's not going to change his mind in here is the way to live and any problem that you have the answer to that problem is in this book. And so we learn what's in here and this takes time. You get better and better and better, but nobody's GonNa have total victory overnight. This is not a drive through breakthrough. Drive to get just about everything day, but you cannot get a drive through bright blue. You're going to have to go through to get the breakthroughs that you make. then. and changing our thinking learning how to let the Holy Spirit, show us when our thoughts are wrong learning how to recognize the lives of Satan and how to learn learning, but think the way that God thinks about every situation is the very basic foundational thing that has to take place for any kind of real transformation in our lives. And Sat beside there are many Christians just people who do love God that has never in their life. Her one message like I'm going to preach here tonight. I was in charge for years and years and years before I ever heard anything about my thoughts and I. Certainly didn't think I could do anything about them. How. Many of you know what I'm talking about? The ever feel like you're losing your mind. Well perhaps you are. Perhaps she's lost are given up the control of your thoughts. So really when we say I feel like I'm losing my mind. It's because we're letting the enemy are thinking far us. And he's filling is with worry and fear and anxiety and threats and every kind of torment. You say what I just don't know what to do. What can I do? Think something else. Thinks something. Good good always overcomes
The Light of the Holy Spirit - an excerpt from Christian Meditation
"An excerpt from the writings of Hans von Balthasar 's. Christian Meditation. Here, the close parallel between word and sacrament makes itself felt. It would be wrong to attribute the spirit's work of making presence solely to the sacraments, and not also to the word of the Gospel, which as we have seen embraces the Lord's deeds, sufferings and resurrection as well as his words. Origin very strongly emphasized this in. The texts in which the Prophet Ezekiel and the senior of the apocalypse are commanded to eat the word in the form of a scroll. This father of the Church knows that the word is the true food of the spirit, and what could be more nourishing for the soul than the word. Just as material, bread is assumed into the nourished body and is transformed into substance so to the living bread. Come down from heaven. God's Word is assumed into the spirit and soul, and imparts its own strength to anyone who offers himself to receive his food.

Learn this well, unless you dramatically change your way of thinking and become teachable and learn about heaven's kingdom realm with the wide eyed wonder of a child you will never be able to enter in whoever continually humbled himself to become like this gentle child is the greatest one in heaven's kingdom realm. Holy Spirit and us. This is what we heard for you. I am not going to argue with you. I know you feel trapped and how you feel overwhelmed by the thought that things will never change other people's relationships feel more loving than the ones you have you try to be grateful. You tell yourself to be positive. You will yourself to work harder to not care so much to not be bothered by how love feels far away and not for you. But you want more there's something deep within you. You can feel it hints of it that promise of something more. It is both encouraging and frustrating to think about that promise because it doesn't feel possible. It doesn't feel like you'll ever realize it why why is this life so hard so lonely so without joy for you. You wonder? This is where you cling to hope that there might be another way to get through this life a way that is more than just getting through just trying to survive another day. You are tired of just surviving. You are tired of wrestling, your feelings keeping them down feeling that seem like they are too much too much to bear come here child. Come here. Discover the right route for your souls, but they said nothing doing we aren't going that way. I haven't provided watchman for them to warn them to set off the alarm, but the people said it's a false alarm. It doesn't concern us. Holy Spirit and us. This is what we heard for you. Pay attention. To your words. They are powerful. Even the right words, become flattery and manipulation if they come from a duplicitous heart, and they have a malign effect. Speak to me from your heart. Not your mind. Don't use empty words. Don't use words to rationalize or justify your sin doing that distances you from me, you never have to hide who you are from me. You don't have to lie. You don't have to pretend. I see you. I see your heart. And I love you. I see the true you. I see you in your glory, your beauty. I see you without the cover up. Do you want to live as that true? Self walking in the new life of freedom and love that. I give you. Yes. It has a cost. Of course. It does it costs. You your pride? You'll have to face me and face the sting of confession. You'll have to expose your sin all of it, all your secrets, all your fears. And when there is nothing left to hide when you've given all you can receive all when you've done that you can receive the healing and joy and peace you crave you can receive freedom freedom from shame. The kind of freedom. You believe doesn't exist. I have so much. I want to give you, but I can't as long as you. Hold onto your old life with your old duplicitous ways. So give. Them to me. Trust me. I am good. You can trust me. You can trust me more than anyone else. You can trust me more than you can trust yourself. Let's get rid of those chains that bind you to the earth. I may do to be free. But the cost of freedom is a willingness to feel it's the courage to endure the pain of an ego bruised of pride crushed who you endure that for something much better for life, much bigger. So few will it is not easy to walk. This ancient path. It is not easy to come to me. But the narrow gate. But calm to be don't you see the road e were on don't stay on that crowded road. They want us to be in relationship with them to. It's not just for them that kind of connection that kind of perfect. Love is available to us to if we want it. Jennifer, and I appreciate John piper's description of God's love, quote, what a love that is. There is no greater love and all the universe than the love flowing between the father and the son and the holy trinity. No love is more powerful. More intense more continuous more pure more full of delight in the beloved than the love. God the father has for the sun. It is an energy of joy that makes atom bombs. Look like firecrackers, oh, how the father delights in the sun. Oh, how precious the sun is to the father? Think about that kind of love for a moment. Try to get your mind around it. Now, let this go deep into your heart. God loves you with the exact same kind of love. It's no different scripture says so. Jesus says so John chapter seventeen verse twenty three talking to his heavenly, dad. Jesus says. You live fully in me. And now, I live fully in them. So that they will experience perfect unity and the world will be convinced that you have sent me for. They will see that you love each one of them with the same passionate love that you have for me. God's love for you is immense. It says mind boggling as the love he has for Jesus and what's more God? Knowingly willingly intentionally sent his beloved boy to suffer horribly physically to take on all of the sins of the world and to die for you. Because he loves you that much he sent his beloved son Sakr officially so that neither of them would have to spend one minute of eternity or one more minute of this life without you. And that's not all he loves you so much. He even put his spirit inside you to live inside your very being. The challenge for us. As Holy Spirit said is to appreciate this. Love our flash our culture the lies of the enemy. They've got nest to a place where we've become indifferent to it. Lukewarm about it. But the path to more more peace and joy and purpose and wholeness is to relearn to appreciate this amazing. Outrageous love and to grow and our abilities to receive it. And fortunately God's here to help in this message. We just heard Holy Spirit said you're going to have to let us remove the blinders from your is the blinders from your heart. I'm gonna read the lyrics, and as I do let these words be your prayer asking God to pull the blinders off. So you can experience ever more deeply the reality of God's love for you. "Joy ever feel elusive to you. Do you ever have a hard time getting there and staying there what with the routine and the distraction the trouble of everyday life? We do too. But the way the Holy Spirit talks about it. It doesn't sound like it's actually lucid at all. Does it? It sounds solid. Ensure and the way he talks about it. It's less about a state of mind and more just relationship. But I guess that makes a ton of sense. Actually, I mean, the apostle Paul explained in his long ago letter to the church Galicia, what joy is actually he told us that joy is a fruit of the spirit the fruit of a relationship with Holy Spirit. That's in Galatian chapter five versus twenty two and twenty three joy is a fruit. That is born out of a relationship with God intimacy with him, begets joy. He's the source. So joy isn't something we achieve or earn or choose or strive for. It's something we accept. It's something we surrender into. Because that's how we get into and go deeper into relationship with God. We surrender into it. We let go even for a little bit of the things were holding onto so tightly in this world. And we let him love us. I want this kind of joy true. Joy, the joy, don't you? I wanna live with an N God's joy. Because right now, joy filled is not quite how I would describe. My average day is it how you would describe yours. "But we don't have to go find God. He's already found us. Here's what we just heard from Holy Spirit. There is not one place. I will not go to find you. There is not one place where you can hide where I won't go. I love you. I love you. Why do you hide? Dear one for. I see you hiding. Come out come out. Will you do you want to be found? So our part here now is not one of effort and searching and striving, but one of surrender. We don't have to go traipsing around looking for him. He's right here with us, and he'll be with us to the end. This is from the book of revelation chapter three behold, I am standing at the door knocking. If your heart is open to hear my voice, and you open the door within I will come in to you. And feast with you, and you will feast with me. Notice he doesn't find these doors to our hearts open. He finds them shut. It's true of all of us because it's our human nature. These are thick doors, and they sit in those thick walls with built to protect our hearts. They are shut. And we keep them shut because of our ignorance and obstinance are self contempt and sin. But after finding us and finding our doors shut he says, I love you. He is kind and merciful. He looks past are small thanking and instead of leaving he knocks any weights. And for those who are willing to surrender their fears and self protection and self centeredness, and who are willing to open the doors of their hearts, even for a little while he comes in not angry at being shut out at being rejected, but bringing love and care acceptance and comfort. "Holy Spirit and us. This is what we heard for you. The greatest change of heart. So you did it again, you did that thing you hate. You figure you must be stuck that there is no change in you. And that I must be far away. You wonder how faith works for in your heart. You've decided to follow me, but your weak flesh rebels. You want to do the right thing. The loving thing yet, you're finding that doing the right thing isn't your first instinct in a moment of trial, you resort to doing the thing. You did before you surrendered your heart to me. So now, you're wondering if this surrender thing even works. You wonder if I work you wonder if believing in me loving me works on you. What this struggle comes down. To is a focus on yourself rather than on me. You are conditioned by the world to pursue change through effort. And yes, a change of the heart takes effort, but it takes more than that too. It takes love it takes loving me more than anything else, which is more powerful than your good or bad behaviour. I love you. Despite what you see as failure. When you hurt others when you intend to do a good thing. But then you change your mind. And don't you see you can't control me or the amount that I love you? And that is why love is powerful this love. I've just described is a different definition of love. You are made to adopt an. Until they've it is frustrating. I understand when you do once again, the thing you hate to do you don't like it. When in the moment, despite all of your plans to do good resort to behavior that you don't associate with me, and kindness impatience, selfishness, hurtful words, deceit greed, and then after you've done it, and your heart is hurting and remorseful you become south condemning rage swells in new at your failure. You assume due to your sin? You must be far away from me or that. I don't want to be near you and of pulled myself away to you see that when you have this attitude of self condemnation this hatred toward yourself when you sin. In that you are rejecting what is most true about you. Despite everything you've done, you are loft. This is where the battle begins. This is when you have to choose to fight fight to see me fight to let your soul rise up and believe have faith that I am for you that I love you that I am with you. Despite what you have done for when you do this. When you choose to believe that my love for you is not dependent on your action that sin is defeated that self condemnation is defeated by my love the lies of enemy have no place to land. You have put up the shield of faith, and you can keep moving Iger to rise again try again and walk in love you were able to turn your back on sin because my power. Power is in you. You were able to be free of it completely step by step as you fall. More deeply in love with me. It is not that she won't struggle, but she will be less tempted to evil and my love in you will embolden you to recognize more quickly. When the temptation comes. It is mindfulness about my presence in you that you need to practice. Most. Now, fill your mind with what is good with thoughts of my love for you and temptation to sin will not have a foothold in your soul when you sin, and you regret that you have sinned. Yes. The first step is confession. Confession to me for this is so good for you. It softens your heart. It opens. You up to me and my love for you. And then repentance, turning your back on sin, again, deciding in your heart to not commit that sin anymore is good for you too. But after confession and after repentance, you still might be tempted to send again. And this is when you rise up. This is when you fight this is when you choose to believe, I am still for you. I still love you. I have entrusted you as an air to my kingdom. I still call you the beloved, and then self condemnation cannot come in and you can keep going deeper and deeper into my love for you. And you are further protected here as you abide in what is true..

"Holy Spirit says that when we allow him to love us. It's like coming home coming back home to the loving God, we love either I short while or longtime. Jesus uses the same idea to of coming home. When he tells the parable of the prodigal son captured by the Vangelis in chapter fifteen of the book of Luke in that story. A man has two sons the younger of them insults. His father by demanding paid his inheritance early wants the money secured. The sun leaves home goes to a far country and proceeds to squander the money with reckless living to the point of destitution. Desperate and starving and in bad shape. The son decides to return home, he makes plans to beg his father for restoration. But not to his regional position as a son. He figures his father wouldn't take him back as a son. So his plan is to ask for a position as one of the fathers hired servants, the father sees his son coming home, and he sees him while he's still far off. So the fathers clearly been watching for him ever since he left and what's the father's response? He's relieved, and he is ecstatic. That is precious boy has come back. He runs to him ropes flying arms open, and the sun doesn't even have a chance to get a speech out the one he'd rehearsed about maybe being accepted back as a lowly servant, the father interrupts him and immediately accepts him back as a son. In fact, the father treats, his son like royalty. He puts a robe on his shoulders signifying that the sun is indeed member of that man's family. Family. He puts a ring on his finger signifying that the sun has the full thirty that a member of that family would have he puts sandals on his feet signifying. The sun is indeed a son and not a servant and the father arranges a feast a big party to celebrate his son's return. The sun returned not to rejection not to punishment. Not even to Justice and fairness, but to unconditional love and acceptance, he is welcomed and embraced and celebrated. And then the son does something radical. Though. He's no doubt humbled. He receives his father's love though. It doesn't make sense. He accepts it. He goes into the party he enters into his father's love..

"We have a choice. Holy Spirit says let me in if you want keep me out if you want I will love you the same. Our old selves the physical parts of us that scripture calls are weak flesh. Are what make it difficult for us to let God in to receive his love these old selves in their broken nece are where fear and pain reside. And because of that these old cells make demands on our lives strong demands that we do something to soothe in Medicaid are pain that we do something to deny distract from our fear and these demands are often strong enough and distracting enough to cause us to forget. What is true? And so we quote do something by turning instead of to God to things like anger, selfishness, materialism, workaholic addiction adultery and all the rest. But here's what is true amazing. As it is God offers us the opportunity for a close personal relationship with him. If we're willing to look beyond the distractions. God, the creator of heaven and earth the alpha and the mega the first and the last the beginning and the end that God he chose us personally individually to be the focus of his love. He loves us despite all of our bad choices. He must be mad. I know, but he loves us. And actually that was always his plan in his love. He made us to be loved by him. So no matter what we've done. No matter. Our beliefs about ourselves. No matter are self contempt. He will not be denied he loves us. And we can't stop him. But we can ignore and reject his love those. We can do because he won't force it he won't push through the demands of our weak flesh and force us to receive his love. Each of us is made to receive God's love uniquely how he loves and interacts with me is going to be different from how he loves and interacts with you. He knows our personalities he made us. He knows what we love to do. He designed that to he knows how to engage with us in just the right way. So hearing experiencing one of God's I love us is not something you're going to miss if you're looking for it. You're only gonna miss it. If you're choosing your own way. This choice this choice about whether to begin receiving God's love about whether to fall into a deeper relationship with him is one we face right now in this moment. Here's one way, you can choose God, you can invite him in you can tell him what's making you

"Persecuted were tired and confused. Yet, this isn't all there is for you for me. Believe me. Holy Spirit says, believe. How do we believe in the promise that despite our circumstances, we are not stuck despite our suffering, we can experience hope hope that despite our trials good will come for us. It can feel like the hardest thing to do in the midst of suffering to have faith, that things will be better to believe that there is good coming. So how do we do it. Holy Spirit invited us to lean into the one who is strong. To lean into the one who is constant, the one who holds us together, even when we feel we are breaking. So let's practice doing that. Now as the music plays, I invite you to close your eyes if he can, or at least to get yourself comfortable stretch, take a deep breath. We're going to consecrate our imaginations to God and ask him to lead us into visualizing what this might look like for each of us. We're going to experience some of his goodness right now. Father, I give you my imagination. I give you my mind, my thoughts. I consecrate them to you. You know, my heart, you know my suffering, you know my disappointment. You know the trials face. And I want to trust you in them. I want to not feel alone. I want to believe that there is good here for me in the midst of this hard thing. And now friend, I invite you to picture yourself in a wide open space. You're dressed in comfortable clothes, hiking boots on your feet. And in front of you lies a large mountain. Notice its height. Is it filled with trees with rock. What is the sky like feel to breeze on your face. Jesus is near you. Do you see him. You're both standing on a trail and he points towards the mountain up the dirt path that leads to atop beyond what you can see. You begin walking Jesus at your side. What does the trail before you look like. Is the pass clear, or is it filled with broken rocks and down logs and mud. What is Jesus doing? He walks next to you. What is his posture? What is his pace. What is it like hiking with Jesus de like him next to you? D trust them. the trail is getting much steeper. Now, the hiking more difficult and you're getting weary. You can feel the altitude is your breathing deepens and quickens you stumble, but she's catches you before you fall places his arm under your arm and around your back steadying you with his strength. So you keep moving up one foot in front of the other. She's helping you along. Up until now you've kept your eyes down is on the trail in front of you worried that if you didn't, you might trip on route or branch roll your ankle on a rock, the cheeses points up and head, and you look up. You see light at the top of the mountain light shining from the other side of the mountain. You've had your is down for so long, your gaze focused on your next step. You hadn't looked ahead. You didn't see the glow of the sky beyond the silhouette of summit. It's beautiful. You stop for a moment to catch your breath and take in which you see. What hope is that glow represent for you?
