"During the Trump administration when photographers on the ground and commercial airline pilots were talking about spy balloon over the United States that people could look up and see even with the naked eye and that media that hated Donald Trump wasn't reporting? I don't remember that either because it didn't happen. There you go, it didn't happen. And again, why would I believe him versus believing the folks that are coming out now that shot this thing days after it had already done what it was doing in many worlds in many minds in many worlds in many situations likely completing its mission is for that reason alone on Friday we spoke with general Blaine holt and he explained that in his entire career he never thought this would even happen, let alone the fact that it's happening right now and the way it did and that it wasn't shot out of the sky. So to me, it makes all the sense in the world that this is just the Biden folks trying to say, no, no, no. We've seen this before. And our guy actually shot it out of this guy. So toughies. I don't buy it for a second. I think it's fake. It's phony. It's fraud. I think we're going to see Joe Biden trying to harp on a victory with that at tomorrow's State of the Union. And we are scheduled to have representative Beth van dyne, congresswoman BVD, who clashes on a regular with AOC and she's on the House ways and means committee. She's scheduled to be with us straight ahead. So don't go anywhere, keep it locked right there. We're going to talk about what we can expect and more right here on America at night with me, rich valdes
US earns respect at World Cup, but wins remain elusive
"The U.S. men's soccer team finished in a scoreless time with England and now must be to ran on Tuesday in order to advance to the knockout round. America's Christian Pulisic have the best opportunity to score, hitting the crossbar and left footed kick in the 33rd minute. The Americans had more good scoring opportunities than their higher rated English counterparts, particularly in the second half, but could not get the goal that coach Greg burr holt has team needed for the win. Overall, pleased with the performance of the group, most importantly, the belief of the group because that never wavered. American goalie Matt Turner was solid and net making three saves. The U.S. took 7 corner kicks while England had only three. I'm Tom Mary

And most people come back with, I don't know, a necklace or a hat or maybe some sandals. Ron, you came back with a dog. In the states, these dogs are called mutts. But in Caribbean, they're called pot cakes. If you really want to figure out how to pull one on us, just take my wife to the Caribbean and put a puppy in front of her because that's exactly what happened. There's this little population. Was there any paperwork, by the way, or did you just literally scoop the dog up and just walk on the plane? It was a one page application. At least there was something. Yeah, yeah. So fire nation, obviously we're talking to the Ron holt, who's the founder of two maids and a mop, which is a nationwide franchise, which we'll be diving a little bit more into later. "Ultimately, you're dealing with a person who, because of the circumstances of his birth, should not have had the influence and impact that he did. And he did so because he refused to internalize all the messaging about who he was from outside. This week on the bear grease podcast, we're on our third and final episode in our series on the extraordinary life of the former slave confederate soldier bear hunter and Mississippi native holt Collier. Many believe he deserves to sit in the saddle with the greats of American history, but his life is stacked deep in controversy, murder, fortunes won and lost an unrivaled adventure. We've tracked the data points we have on halt, but like a boar bear being pursued by hounds. He's difficult to course. This episode is dedicated to his famous teddy bear hunt when he guided president Theodore Roosevelt and will discuss holt's lasting legacy. He lived in bold opposition to the trends of the age. He was a black man that overcame endured and thrived in the south in a dangerous period. But even in the midst of victory, his life leaves us with a tragic aftertaste. The story of holt's life exemplifies core, bear grease. It's the finest renderings, the choice meat of the acorn. The flash of the flashiest mule, the crescendo trill of the barred owl. It's the Black Panther of all Black Panther stories, and I'm honored to tell it to you. I doubt you're going to want to miss this one. We arrived in the camp. We've got this very ties with the back of his horse. He said that the president killed that bear and he says, no, but if he had followed my instructions, he would have. My

"Yeah. It's dangerous for him to be there. He voluntarily goes in there. To seek out binges. That's not conservative. That is flat out love for somebody. Which, zooming out, I think that you can still hold on to these concepts of like, there is something letting the water over here because the foundation of this relationship is slavery, which is abhorrent. Also, this is definitely going on by free will by choice. And I think for me, the takeaway is just going back to the fact that this is a truly extraordinary human being. Like, I like a guy who can not be pigeonholed. The circumstances of two people meeting is left up, it's chance or whatever Harvard happens. What those two people make out of that meeting. Is the thing that's important. So if I meet somebody in jail, and we become lifelong friends and we love and support one another, legally. I mean, you know what I'm talking about. That's what the where you met. To me, then it doesn't make any difference. Yeah, for me, I think the black mark, if there's a black mark on that relationship, it would be on Heinz, which we can get off into the weeds talking about that. It certainly wouldn't be on hold. We're choosing the higher ground and being like, I'm loyal to this guy. I love this guy despite coming from this position. I don't know. What do you think malachi? I think holt is a complex guy that I have at totally wrapped my head around what I generally think about him. You know, I think what strikes me is not about halt, but about the people that he was around and how they treated him. I think we've I think everybody has talked about slavery is in black and white and how they treated their slaves isn't as clean cut as people make it seem.

"I mean, would the story be any different? I mean, it would be. I don't know that you would have paid attention to that. Right. Had he been a white boy. Sure. So what's made this interesting to most people is that he was a black guy. Yeah. So why was he so special? And I think he revealed a lot of it. The depth of it was just amazing. It was almost as good as Jonathan's podcast. Yeah. You know, it just revealed things where I don't know. It's just a subject that I think educated a lot of people, you know, that on this on this one. That this podcast just tells you that there's just great people everywhere and this guy was one of them and he was exceptional, I think because of his DNA and the environment he was in, just pulled everything together where he was a powerful person. And he couldn't help it. I mean, he was a magnet wherever he was. When he walked in the room, I mean, you go like, here's this little shrimpy guy, but I mean, he just captivated everybody. And so racism almost was not even in the subject. I mean, in a way, I mean, it was big racism, but it was like, hey, we like this guy because who he is. We don't care what color he is. We want him to ride in the cavalry. We want him to guide and bear hunt. We want all this stuff 'cause he's just thinking winner. And I want to be a little bit of it. I mean, that's what you feel like you see, 'cause everywhere he goes. He's people are single in him out. And just he was and that's what I said inside of this is that, you know, I didn't, and I said this to Jonathan, I said it to everybody. I didn't want to turn this into a podcast just about race. I wanted to celebrate this guy's life. But I think we owe it to holt to look at it because that was the that was the hegemon. That was the dominating thing. It was life was that he was a black guy in the south, doing stuff that at the time, you know, just wasn't normal at all. And but he made it, it's like almost like he, from the version of the stories we have, like he made it kind of look easy.

At the end of the war, holt says that he mustered out in vicksburg. And I have no reason to doubt that he ends up going back to what does that mean? Well, you muster in and you muster out. That's what you sign in and you sign out and I know that that's a very highly debated issue about blacks and the confederacy, but I found several accounts of it. Out of northern newspapers. And for the union soldiers would write back home, they even countered black confederates. I don't question that it happened. If they exist, and I think they did, they were all brought in as servants and ended up with in a Shelby foote would say, why are you fighting has nothing political other than fact that because you've invaded us. And very well could have been the motivation behind it. Holt's service with the confederacy went from day one to the very end. He never left him. He never was AWOL. He followed orders. He never got any kind of commission, obviously. And he never had a uniform, but he had a confederate hat. And we have many photographs of him in that confederate hat. And if you read the narrative from the night Texas cavalry, they wore the hat in a very unusual way, and that was with the front turned up. And all of these pictures of holt weighing his confederate hat has the front turned up just exactly the way the night Texas cavalry narratives describing. And hope wore that hat to his deathbed. He loved that hat in many of his photographs and later life. He's wearing that still wearing that hat. Holton involvement in the Civil War is one of the most mysterious parts of his life. At least as we would look at it from today's perspective. I think it made complete sense to him. And on the surface, it seems simple. He was endeared to the people that owned him, and an army had invaded the area he called home. And perhaps it was even the naivety of his youth thrown in there and him not understanding the bigger picture. Regardless, Jonathan has some insightful ideas on holt's involvement in the Civil War. You know, I think that colliers involvement is a Civil War is the main place that I take some umbrage with the way the stories told about him. Because what's the actual motivations behind that? So this idea of like the loyal slave is problematic to me because one, it completely ignores the fact that you're dealing with people that have no choice. I don't think that the motivations could possibly be as simple or as binary as he loved the people that enslaved him and enslaved his mother and father and everyone he ever knew and cared about. So much that he was willing to put his life on the line to protect them. It is possible for a situation to be more complex than the summation of all the information we have. I think holt deserves more than turning the story into a story about race. All of us simply want to celebrate the life of an incredible man. But the story of race is the backdrop of his whole life. So in an effort to understand his context, we owe it to halt to talk about it. Jonathan and I have a lot of rapport with one another and have always been able to have productive conversations about tough subjects. Here's Jonathan. Again, there's no denying the fact that he fought for the confederacy and not only fought, but did so with the distinction. To the point that he was able to apply for and receive a confederate pension, which is mind boggling. But to me, that speaks more to the extraordinary nature of the man. Much more so than this idea that he so loved his brutalizes. So it's certain that Collier was an outlier. I mean, isn't he the one that told us why he did what he did? Yeah, so that's a good point. And I would actually argue that that is further evidence of him being in an extraordinary person and an outlier. I think it would be anyone who understands Collier's story would be hard pressed to say that he wasn't incredibly capable, naturally intelligent, politically adapt. And if you think about the time that this man lived in, he never was free of the yoke of white supremacy. At any point, right? The argument could actually be made and I think pretty astutely that the south was a much more dangerous place for black people after the Civil War than it was before. Because that social order had been so upended that there was a brutality that was instituted to try and hold on to the vestiges of that social order, right? Yeah, that makes sense. So what I would say about whole Collier telling these stories in the way that he did explaining his motivations. There's kind of two possibility. It's either that everything he's saying and putting out there into the cultural zeitgeist is a 100% true that he loved these people that he hated Yankees or he's a person who spent his whole life within these systems. And he understood that for him to have some sort of quality of life, it was necessary for him to ingratiate himself to the people around him that had power and to ingratiate himself to a social narrative that provided comfort to those people that were in a powerful position. Very interesting thoughts, a black man getting a confederate pension is incredibly rare and only documented a few times. Basically, the United States government gave money to confederate soldiers injured in the Civil War in hopes to help rebuild the south. It's unclear if and how holt was injured, but he did get a small confederate pension. Tighten up your belts, brothers, because we're going to get even deeper. This is bear grease, folks. AG Merrick Garland Is Open to Indicting Anyone, Including Trump
"Here was Lester Holt yesterday interviewing the attorney general. Who is proudly telling anyone who will listen? That they are open to prosecuting the 45th president of the United States. You said, you know, no uncertain terms the other day that no one is above the law. That said, the indictment of a former president of perhaps candidate for president would arguably tear the country apart. Is that your concern is you make your decision down the road here. Do you have to think about things like that? Look, we pursue justice without fear or favor. We intend to hold everyone, anyone who was criminally irresponsible for the events surrounding January 6th for any attempt to interfere with the lawful transfer of power from one administration to another accountable. That's what we do. We don't pay any attention to other issues with respect to that. So if Donald Trump were to become a candidate for president again, that would not change your schedule or how you move forward or don't move forward. Say again that we will hold accountable anyone who was criminally responsible for attempting to interfere with the transfer legitimate lawful transfer of power from one administration to the next.

How Much Pressure Is Putin Under Right Now?
"Secretary wilkie, let's discuss what's happened recently. The fourth breakdown of negotiations between Moscow and the Ukrainian government. Let's put this in the context of the last three weeks. Russia has not performed well. I'm not talking about the brutality. I'm talking about just the military professionalism. The sheer fact that we have from the newsmax war correspondent on the ground, truck holt and former ranger, confirmation that they have captured in three weeks, not destroyed, captured more than 250 tanks. What does the breakdown of negotiations presage? I don't want to read too much into it. But how much pressure could Putin be in under right now? I think he is not desperate yet, but he's getting there. Because his entire. Face to the world, that the empire is back imperial Russia is back. The steamroller is back, has proven to be a fraud. The notion that he could take on even the Polish army right now is now up in smoke. He would be devastated by attacking those NATO Eastern European members. He's going to have to look for a way out. Obama-Era Treasury Official Tears Into Biden Over Inflation
"Inflation is bad and now you actually have a former economic official from the Obama administration guy named Steve ratner well known on Wall Street. And he's penning an op-ed. Actually, in yesterday's New York Times in which he blames the federal government's enthusiastic spending. Wow. I mean, think about what's happening here. The Democrats are like turning on themselves. I thought they just wanted to spend and spend and spend and spend now finally. Somebody with like, you know, a couple brain cells is saying that no, that that's not the answer and he refers in this op-ed in The New York Times to the interview that the president did with NBC with lesser holt in which he said, well, ratner, Steve ratner saying that Biden is just too simplistic and his comments were misleading. Let me quote, he says blaming inflation on supply lines is like complaining about your sweater, keeping you too warm after you've added several logs to the fireplace. So in other words, you can't just blame this on supply chains. The reality here is this. We spent too much money. And when you spend that much money and you flood the system with that much cash, when you print that much money over at the Federal Reserve, and then you hand out coronavirus check after coronavirus check after coronavirus check, you know what, you're going to have some consequences. And these are the consequences we are facing right now. This is why coupled with the supply chain, which is a natural problem in light of all the factory shutdowns, you put all this together, you got inflation that just won't quit.
Biden Rejects Military Report Outlining Afghanistan Withdrawal
"In this interview with Lester holt of NBC whom he said was being a wise guy for asking about inflation. Biden said he rejected the findings of the army, saying that the handwriting was on the wall that he was advised that it was going to be chaos, Americans would want to be left behind. He said, quote, no, that's not what I was told. So apparently he's rejecting the army report. Washington Post talked about a military official quoted in the document accused The White House in the State Department of not recognizing the swift advance of the Taliban. Reports to disagreements over how to handle the evacuation and the at risk Afghans. Biden says he's rejecting that report. Apparently he's calling the military officials quoted in the document. Liars.
Biden Calls Lester Holt a 'Wise Guy'
"Biden told left to holt the anchor NBC News, nightly news? He's being a wise guy for asking about inflation. And hey, I understand that's your job. To a soft network NBC couldn't be more friendly to a Joe Biden. NBC also is the parent company of MSNBC hawk. The Joe Scarborough show where they dump on Donald Trump and Republicans all the time. And Joe Biden couldn't handle a simple question from this guy about inflation. Is this a game show? Now let's remember that even Jerome Powell, that chair said we should retire this term temporary or transitory. So I think the word transitory has different meanings to different people to many, it carries a time a sense of short lived. We tend to use it to mean that it won't leave a permanent mark in the form of higher inflation. I think it's probably a good time to retire that word and try to explain more clearly what we mean.

"Just looking down. I don't see too many that the pool would have, you know, that you would say, you know, had leading chances. And I think three under through 5, he just looks a stir to me. I don't know that he is going to have enough class to win the old RSA personally, particularly if he's up against the likes of Gavin and the question is would pull around both brave men's game and 300 through 5 in the same race? I mean, they're different owners of course, but he'd had two good pokes, if he ran them if he separated them. Yeah, big time. Big time. No, I'm intrigued by that. And I think it's a conversation that will extend out further. As we build up to specials, which are coming very, very soon. Chantry house gets the better of his formal stable companion former stable companion even santini. Who almost was a bit dismissive of so sorry polygon that also in the massive race and poly now very keen to go back to the gold cup with them again. With I write back in third, I think people were expecting fireworks from shanti house and Nikki Henderson. Nikki was of the view that, well, he said on this show last week, captain is campton, cheltenham's cheltenham. And now he says, John, I'm trying to trust him as tell him. It's like he's adapting his new catch phrase. What did you make of chantry house? Well, it was, I think most people would say it was a little bit underwhelming. He didn't travel, perhaps as well as you'd like to see. He didn't jump. He seemed to be lurching at one or two of the fences. There seemed to be a little bit of lack of confidence, but he came good in the end for had good form over two and a half miles. He looks like an out and out star to me the way he won on Saturday because it was certainly not done and dusted, you know, the second last. And he's really just kept on well. Santini, as was reported and as poly gundry said, he's a notoriously difficult horse to get fit, because he's so laid back. And he's a very quiet very nice horse. And he did run an exceptionally good race and of course he's been runner up in a gold cup in a very narrowly beaten adult cap. So they have every right to go for the gold cup again, although I think he would be very interesting in a grand national because I think all he does is stay and he jumps very well. And at the age of ten, he'd probably might have lost a little bit of pace, whatever pace he had. I mean, he's always looked to me like a real out and out staying horse. I also takes a bit of revving up and can get out paste and then come home. We're winning the second in the gold cup. He was finishing very strongly. You know, you might have got up in another few strides. I think what weighs down the form with all respect to the horse is that I write was only beaten what 5 links and I write you couldn't say was adult couples. He's a very, very genuine, good handicap chaser. I would say. And I admire him that and he ran his usual game race, but he wasn't beaten that far. It's hard to see child in all honesty winning a gold cup and although if you ask me, what does we need to go cup this year? I'm not sure I know because it just looks so so open and one or two of them have been beaten in their latest races. And so much depends how they are on the day at Shell and what the ground is going to be like, you know, a good example Manila in the you know he just obviously blew out completely in the king George mad tactics. I think that probably the horse was under his best anyway, or didn't like him that trying to take on fraud on in the early stages and going so quickly was just madness. But we've seen that horse come back at the children festival for several seasons now. So who knows, you know, but I can't see chantry house living here. Yeah, I'm surprised man and is as big as he is and it seems as though it's almost as like the decision's already been made by Rachel that you'll now go with the blue tart, and that that's factored into the price. But it's been a funny season for Henry drumhead and he swept all before him last year and last year was no one ever take that away from him and he's a brilliant trainer. But you kind of want to see a little bit more and I think yes, he's wonderful be watching out for the way his horses were running in the two or three weeks leading up to the festival with regard to his leading candidates and there's not that much between Manila indo and ably tart on their run in the gold cut last year. But both have been on their later starts, a little surprisingly perhaps Manila in the is obviously a lot better than he showed at Kent and it was probably just a real off day. A little surprise in the air Pluto was beaten by galvin. But galvin, I quite like the album because I like the fact that he's got a good record. And if it was dry ground, I don't think that would inconvenience sympathies one on dry ground around there. Yeah, no, I completely agree with you. I think he is no longer underestimated. He's now second favorite, obviously, but it took people a while to kind of cut onto them. And get there with them. And to finish second to Frodo on a down royal on your second start of the season, was a damn good effort. And Gordon's team are in tremendous form. So I wouldn't really have that at all. And I like that the fact that he's come from the not quite amateur writer, not quite form letters, novices, chase, because that has provided us with good horses in the past. And it looked strong race last year after all, you know, he did. Explanation is story ten. And what it did at the time, perhaps now it doesn't look quite so strong. But I felt it was a quality race. And he won it well and he's gone on since then. And he's continued to get better, hasn't it? They've raided trod trotter. A gentle path within my think, you know, and he's just got a little bit better every season. But it's a very open race and then it's still a few weeks off. We've got the Dublin racing festival coming up at the weekend. Maybe that will be enlightening. Again, the chances of a British laws winning the gold cup will probably rest with protectorate who has been a bit of a surprise packet, I think given that he's become a good stager based on his winner aintree. However, he was the only one that was galloping at the finish there in desperate conditions. And then you've got chantry house. You've got raw per guy who came back with an injury after beating in the barefoot Chase has come out again to win the Peter marsh. I don't know whether he would need plenty of giving the ground, I think. He needs the mud flying, doesn't he? He would. You could see him in a muddy goal in a traditional mud bath at the gold cup that he could out stay a lot of horses, but it'll lead to it'll need to rain plenty or at least the children executive will have to gallons on for it to be suitable for him. I would imagine. Well, we'll talk about that before we finish, because that may very well be exactly what the chocolate mixer gives us do, but in terms of chantry house, it just looks as slow motion finish to me. "Of Hennessy on the day, didn't he? Well, not heard that one before. But don't tell quite like it. It probably does. Jerry has great. It's absolutely fantastic. First time I met Jerry, was that done dark. And I wasn't sure if he was going to lamp me or say, hey, but it's nice to meet you. And thank God he said, hey, man, it's nice to meet you. These have been doing the same all seasons for so long. But he does have he comes out with some parlors and jobs like a bag of hammers. Was accurate for that horse. If I asked you to pick between pied piper and Gordon's other horse, who hopefully we're going to see at the weekend Phil door at the Dublin racing festival, who would it be? Well, I'd say pied piper on the way he won, but I did read the gold nearly I think that fedor is a little bit better. It does look as though they'll probably run against each other, isn't it? And I've heard, I mean, there was bipartisan could possibly go up. Go up in trip and running one of the other races getting the weight, but I think I was quite taking with particularly as he was relatively unproven on that fast surface, which increasingly is looking likely at the cheltenham festival this year unless we get a change in the weather and you mentioned before we went on air that there's quite a lot of rain in Ireland this morning, but the forecast here in Britain is still a very dry outlook. We're looking at having probably the driest running of the city island of his chase at sand down on Saturday. And you know we're not so many weeks away from the festival now and it's just vital that there's a bit of cut in the ground given the pace of the races. And we want those horses to have a safe run round and you just can not afford to be running on fast ground at the festival. And I know it's been a bit of a concern with the Dublin racing festival coming up this weekend that the ground was going to be too far so that.

"Was 50 seconds. That's all it took. For the opening day of this year's festival, which is the best day to be there. Check out their Twitter page and find that how. Also, three weekend passes for the Dublin racing festival up for grabs on this very show and I know Twitter page will tell you more in a little bit. First of all, delighted to say that top commentator Simon holtz is alongside me Simon. Welcome to the final front podcast, my friend. Thank you. Yes, good to be back. And a lot to discuss, I think. Absolutely. Your first show of 2022 for that matter. And Gordon Elliott now has a exceptionally strong hand at the head of a very broad market with pied piper heading over to the JCB drone fertile trial and bolting up just the 9 length victory. It was all about for Gordon prior to this and he did, I must say I mentioned the supreme. But since then he's kind of walked that back and said, another probably going to take each other on, which is going to be very, very interesting if they do. So pied piper is now favorite Phil doer who was the antipodes favors and has won his three consecutive races with his form Frank in the UK on Friday when we were on talk sport. Phil doors and our second favorite. So what did you make of pied piper, storming up that Shelton hill? Well, you could fail to be impressed by him. Good. I mean, he's won in an absolute Kanter. And wow, you might question the substance of the form and the horses he beat I mean forever William who was third was pushed along virtually the whole race didn't really travel. Paul Nichols ICO had been so impressive on his debut. He pulled too hard and he was one of several nickels train runners that performed poorly last weekend and it is this time of year that Paul usually gives his horses the flu jabs. And I think he always does have a slightly becalmed January and not all running badly but they did mostly on Saturday. But I think if you wanted something a bit more concrete, I thought that the winning time was highly respectable for a horse of one so easily because that's pretty much what it was a little bit a shade quicker than Cormier's victory in the preceding handicap hurdle. So for a four year old to do that, okay, pipe pipe was carrying 6 pounds less. Cormier is a one 30 pretty decent handicap hurdler and still probably improving a bit. I thought that gives the form that performance pipe pipers performance a degree of substance and you could fail to be impressed with him. And he's a very highly rated walls to go jumping these days. We don't get so many good horses from the fat going jumping. He was rated 96 on the flat. You know what I mean? That in itself suggests that he's a pretty classy horse. Right by the queen. Yes, that's right. I was going to ask you about that actually as well. I wonder if looking ongoing. One should have kept that horse. Because it massive racing fan. We know already that this is a season of all seasons. We haven't done enough for a while. Accommodating friend of yours. And the Irish side of the sea for he sent a horse to a bank.
NBC News' Peter Alexander Ignores That Justice Clarence Thomas Is Black
"I saw a headline last night how NBC's chief White House correspondent Peter Alexander was talking to Lester holt and headline said Peter Alexander stumbles and claims that Biden will be nominating the first African American justice to the Supreme Court. I thought, wow, that's quite a stumble. So I had barrack Derrick pull the clip. Here it is. Is the president's commitment as a candidate that he would nominate the first African American justice to the Supreme Court. Did you hear a stumble? I didn't hear he didn't stutter. He seemed very clear. The media is grotesque. The crazed libs are lunatics. They don't think clarence Thomas is black. They actually believe he doesn't exist.

"There one day. That line or some derivation of it has been spoken by children as far back as anyone can remember and many times. Those dreamers become doers and make good on their promises to themselves and every so often that dreamer and dur becomes a differentiator as is the case with my next guest whose work has been seen and enjoyed by millions of people around the world in disney parks all over the globe. He's garner holt founder and head of garner hold productions the world's largest animatronic company and he helps bring the magic to life in the disney parks and other themed entertainment attractions. And you have been a gardener. Holt fan you just might not have realized that yet. And i'd love to welcome garner holtz to the show. You doing good to be here. it's It is great to meet you finally again. I said that. I think we're all garner hold fans we just don't realize it. I absolutely have been and look. I love a good comic book. Origin story and yours is really remarkable to me. Not just because you literally did say. I'm gonna do that some day at a very very young age but just started making good on that promise to yourself right away so if you can share your garner holt origin story with us. Well i find. I kinda had tunnel vision where i saw disneyland. I just do what i wanted to the rest of my life. I wanted to do those kind of things that basically started when messed growing up as a child my parents had in my whole family was in the worst business in my uncles and parents. They had stables. They head verses anything else. I was on the back of a horse from you know moments after i was born and probably ten years old and they wanted me to the first businesses a veterinarian but they basically You know i i think i burned out on worsening i on so much and would during all of that. I used to watch monsters as to watch all the movies at night of my friends the frankenstein and all the universal monsters and everything and so i really kinda wanted to have the munster south so we kind of started tinkering with the little house in the backyard in one day on sunday on a disney on camera abilities chandler is a doozy program. The world of color. They had a tour of the haunted mansion at disneyland. They'd never heard of such thing that never existed and iran. I still remember to stay road running my parents and saying mom. Dad is on it mansion at disneyland. I wanna go see it. So the documentary taking need disneyland. And they did and that was Fatal mistake for people who wanna be horse because at that point on the way home i told them i said i wanna build a haunted mansion on a bill. The things that i see is the land. And that's what i want to be the rest of my life you know and a kind of pat me on the head but You know i never looked back. It just never win in any other direction but your parents thankfully so very much indulge you not just by taking you to kmart and buying you the harder mentioned album but you literally set up shop at home and describe what that was where in your house it was and your parents reaction to actually sort of making good very quickly on the promise that you made it in the car ride home. Well i started inventing things. They started building little things in the garage. I started on a card table in the garage than they had my whole bedroom. Course and basically set it up like a little shop. And i you know i got a toolbox of my dad and i would start tinkering and i started tinkering with little inches width pieces and making a little things. I made my mom a little animated pumpkin that she took the work for halloween for halloween contest. And we won the contest. Wish about in the hat opened up and it said happy halloween everything. So it started tinkering with julie small and you know my parents seem to. They seem to go along with the fact that i was busy doing things that were you know. Look like i was learning and you know I you know. I still dabbled with the animals now. I had a little petting zoo and a couple things that i created that On a reptile museum. Because i used to collect reptiles i had animals and things but will just continue to pinker and these more and more elaborate in the haunted house to step more and more elaborate. The Pretty good little haunted house than i would have been kids. Pay come through it that type of thing so it was pretty pretty pretty successful beltway. What i think is really interesting to sort of put a pin in this for second is. Let's give context. This is the early nineteen seventies. there is no youtube. You don't have angel investors coming in and giving you money to start doing this. You're literally figuring it out on your own. You know your your tony stark in a cave of using scraps to build these things and make the you're using bicycle pumps and things like that to create special effects. The my first animated figure. I don't figure i'd built in high school for my bicentennial seventy six. When i was fifteen i used. I took hacksaw inside metal off my fenceposts in the my dad's backyard You know we're the part of the frame of the figure. So i it really. Did you scrap metal hinges door hinges. you know crazy crazy things like that to building figure you know so it was. It was quite a struggle. I mean i didn't have a lot of money. I decided that allowance. And i do things. I used to exercise horses for my dad. Give me five dollars. Every time i do that. So they had a way to make some money A little bit. That i could buy some part sign would go down to aircraft surplus place like not out but you know how figures worked with air cylinders and things like that night. Some aircraft wastes that. I could cheat us old burke for world war two points and stuff like that. I am absolutely in awe of not just the entrepreneurial spirit but the foresight and the thought sort of source parts and products for these different places. But let's be clear like this. This haunted house that you built was not just a figure that jumped out at you and your garage. You literally built. You know something in your backyard that a few hundred people come and then the next year. You're actually hired by the mall in san bernardino to build another haunted house and this time. You actually repurpose trailer. Yeah i yeah. They came to me and said. Could i build one for them. And i thought well how. How could i possibly work on the whole the whole year. Because i figured i needed by the time my friends and i would need time to put something together so i thought well if i could have a trailer pulled into the mall so i found an old burned out construction trailer when it had burn the inside but still a good on the outside and.

Larry Elder on a Conservative's Response to Black Lives Matter
"Let's talk about the last two three years in america larry. Blm let's talk about our response to be a lamb as conservatives. What is so then. There's this big issue On the right for the conservative movement. Do we ignore the accusations of racism. And just say no. It's about freedom. Independence small government the first amendment the second amendment and engaged like that. All does that have to be some recognition of racism. We don't buy into the white supremacy garbage mantra but but can we engage can white conservative. Lying me larry engage with my fellow americans in the inner cities as a conservative and american. I i need an answer from somebody who's been delivered delivering the truth and has all the facts that his fingertips. How do we solve this problem. In an era where where social justice is the mantra for one side of the argument. Tell the truth malcolm x. One said i'm for the truth. No matter who's telling it i've often said this. Pick up your magic. Wand waved over. America remove every smidgen of racism from the heart of america. Now every white person thinks like mother teresa. Do we still have seventy percent of black boys. Entering the world of father mary to the mother we still have a fifty percent dropout rate of many of our urban high schools and kids. Who do graduate cannot read writing computer. Great holt or twenty five percent of black boys. In many of our urban settings having criminal records having been arrested on parole or probation is a number. One calls preventable death for young white boys. Accidents are accidents is another one called ridable death for young black boys homicide. Almost always at the hands of another black boy is a young black man. Eight times likely to be killed than a young white boy. If the answer to that survey questions is yes then. I submit to use stomach. Racism is not the problem and critical race. "You can do and the kind of of drugs that can be put into a human that. It's very very difficult for the authorities to uncover them or the authorities. Just don't want to because he said the olympics itself. If you think about it is a bit of a farce. It's a bit of a disgrace because these athletes don't get paid for each run that they do. They generate a massive amount of income for the olympics. The olympics themselves and for the companies that make the brand wear. But it's only based on your silent whole wins the hundred meters. Simon holt manages to get an endorsement deal with multiple companies makes a fortune. But i finished last and have spent four years or five building up their whatever. I represented my country. That's great but there's nothing to it at the end of the day and yet people were. Maybe were cheering me. On or whatever and so his his point was look there are ways of getting around this and if if you can get around it with humans then you can get around it with sources so the ethical responsibility is on the ihop to reach out to someone and go not bury their head in the sand and not go. Well jim belgian tell us any names therefore there's nothing to say it's an he wouldn't go over to the house of commons and speak to them. Has this parliament. It's their responsibility to take what you to take the coats that you've read out on this podcast and go. We may have a problem here and this might end up being very embarrassing for his but is going to be more embarrassing if one of our horses tests positive in another jurisdiction and they end up. Implicating a trainer what you could take jim. Bolger's remarks has just sort of giving them a little bit of a not in a wink. And the fact that he's really not a name names even if each whether he knows the names or not but wasn't it the case that A lot of the testing done in on it was outsold to To new market a few years ago from that subsequent to that they had a lot more positives. Yes that is. My understanding of that is that that is true. Yeah so anyway. I think you can't be too naive about these Taking your athletic zomba have been so many cases over the years athletes who've tried to get an advantage and it's just going to be the case in any sport. Weather's unaltered steak. There's a lot a lot up for grabs. And you've just got to be. I think any governing body has got to be on the lookout at times. Because it's a bit of a cliche but it there's have the have the capacity to take a subset a little bit ahead of the testers. Tessa catch up. So i don't think he's ready something that we can comment on with any great Authority to sam. Because i've not i've not had any room as a toll on was one of the laws. Anything on useless getting gossip. I don't believe that for a second. That's very late absolutely known I'm one of the most naive feet people in racing to be honest and so i will be the lawsuit probe with There was a comment from. I've not buying that at all. I'm one of the most naive people in racing said simon hold To me it's just rumors and innuendos and people keep saying. There's not much that we can do about it we work with. Hr i we will work with. Hr be there was more testing to be done in the last couple of more testing. That has been done the last couple of months that's ever been done But i have no specific information. It's just terrible rumors like this. That circulates that was a comment from was coming from macau offered or was it from graphic. It was graphic as well. So yeah as you said look. All we can do is speculate and that doesn't really do anybody any favors. I did say to you before we started this. That i would ask you a question which is an i one hundred percent mean this that you are alongside al michaels and Martin tyler one of my favorite commentators of all time. And you've you've been responsible so most favorite sporting memories but when you look back on winning three golden cups that epic line The the kado star star date. What i'm not really sure. Connections thought he was going to do which is when a fifth bedford cup and then go on and Regain his crown. Your if i remember correctly apologies. This is off the top of my head. Because i think you said the king is dead. Long live the king when long-run beat him in the rescheduled and the next year. I was quite sure on of quit. Some friends cheering him on you. Just you were basically freaking out and talking about how. He's dethroned the younger the younger legs the old boy he's done again and makes history. I think that was so. Yeah so much better and much better worded. But of all the countries that you've done and there're countless what really stands out to you as being something that you're very proud of or that racing fans come up to you and say simon just to say that meant a lot to me. It's it's very hard. I mean very to see to two colon. Have the opportunity to describe so many big races. In amongst those have been really memorable ones sunny would include the cooler star denman era and of course as well and getting back to best maintenance three gold cox and has more recently the likes of enabling stratovarius when he's the dole cup nascar as well Probably miss out law but I i think essentially before we came on tonight. You know the the common commentary job is is one of accuracy. But i do believe that is ineligible performance but talking about performance. I don't need to act in those big races. Because i have a genuine passion for the spoils. I tend to get allegiance. To certain says the coordinate mara pu nichols actually jumps largest. Think he's been mazing trainer and all through that era. He was When when i was working channel race in that era of denman cools has starred masterminded. Big box you know. He was just so open and available. It was open house ready whenever we wanted to send a camera crew out and i had several trips down there. And you know any anything you wanted to ask. You could not could not announce the more. It really helped us a lot to build up the story in the the host which is phenomenal and i think can trying to answer your question to sink of battling away. I think one of the most memorable was puppy. Denman second annecy. I think all great show. I think that was a you know. Phenomenal where you talking about multi. Ko off of group. One ables denman. I think it was one seven something that he won the second hennessy. On and then he ran in a third hennessy. Like drone of about a city mach one eighty four or something. I'd probably got these figures on something like that. But the second hand is saying i i think many people who've been following the sport for a long time to have this admiration for the carries a big waves a handicapping and saturday. We don't see as often as we used to watch kale in a tremendous job in the bumper top. Giving the ways away and that diet. Newberry when denman tried to win his second hand off that lofty mark and under the big ways livingstone. Twelve i suppose were moments in that race which is so dramatic and the jump. Put the at the cross fence five out the jump. Fine lopin ditch. His stable companion was a friend coming to challenge always always a little bit of eighty percent much in but made it interesting and and then ruling away on the running you know it was just a fantastic atmosphere. There that been of his so lucky that they've been certain days where the atmosphere has been memorable. And i would say that was one of the day the koto star came back to win the bet fed chase at haydock. I'm sure that was heidelberg's greatest day. I've never heard the crowd..

"Yeah so if i were. The connections astonished little approach from somebody with a stake in the everest. Ibm keen to learn a bit more. And they'll pay your expenses. They'll identity crowd. I don't know how it works. Be on this. I think it the those interested by slot in the race and And with their associated with the whole so naught then you can do a deal getting the holes in this This a slot available because somebody with a slot shown interest installment so. I wonder coolmore well. We can recollect company. I mean obviously style. Man is an interesting long-term prospect. And you know nowadays the way the industry is and what what the boys demand the looking for most and stamina and storming. We'll be a very exciting standing princeton very much so just the three point. Three million pounds if you do the currency conversion noise. That's the whitney. That's for the winter. Three point three million pounds on i. I think i'd had done under. I'm pretty sure. Yeah you're right you buy slop. But i'm pretty sure that they effectively cover your expenses to to go. I think they do. They're very keen to get more european horses there but I mean the australian sprint is. The best of australian racing knows. We see one hundred percent of their distance. A rubbish A fantastic into they tend to roll. Ask us about shame over. But you know they they are exceptional and it wouldn't be an easy toss stall member but he looks one of the more exciting sprinters we've had in this power to the welfare longtime. Yeah i'd agree. And i'd be very interested if they chose to go down under with him as well more big race analysis from simon. Holt's in a second on the final form of podcast. First of all tell plus and a huge congratulations to tina from somerset. I wouldn't your second name either. Tina tina invested eight pounds in the scoop. Six and one hundred and nine thousand four hundred and eighty nine pounds ten pence. She then went for the bonus race where she picked monarchial he of course romped home and that then became one hundred ninety seven thousand six hundred and ten pounds and ten pence phenomenal stuff. Small stakes to win big. And it's the kind of stuff of dreams that you can do with told but it gets even better with toe plus because in all of totes racing pools whether you're investing eight pounds. Acey whatever steak you have on whatever racing bet you have tote will add ten percent as a boost to your winnings whether it's a win bit place bet exact trifecta scoop six place pot. It's entirely up to you and the so much more as well cannella. For example we forgot to mention there. There's also the tote. Sp guarantee if for some bizarre reason the tote are under they will guarantee to match the s p. How do you get this.

"A whole lot of other hitherto backward types who just beginning to flourish. Get a really good point. And even the record in this race in the last ten years like olympic glory to go onto groupon success master the season we just mentioned of confused a massive discipline really in hindsight but there were other decent horses in there. it's just it's it's got an interesting mix of horses corto unfortunately never got the chance to race a race again after winning the national stakes At the curragh post it's intriguing. The dolphin have for whatever reason salt this race out. And i've decided to use this as a springboard for success and i think masekela that you mentioned that's a huge step up on the performance that was expected at roy ascott and kind of felt a little bit. Sorry for him. Because i know that connections the world of them and it looked as though he was going to do it and deliver the goods and it was kind of unusual for andrew balding horse because they tend to improve on their first run but It clearly come on awful fresco. It was probably the switch to go to firm ground. Yes it could mean. The chechen was around on soft ground. I thought it looked very strong chechen stakes beforehand at ascot and still do away even though great. Max was down the field in the superlative sweeping who was folded in the chechen He was beaten as will wasn't he at newmarket loss. Wiki one of the maiden races so mass akita has kind of jumped passed sweeping a great max so definitely improved a lot for that. I run at that. Run in the chechen but i think the front to the chechen rebels is really looking out for point. Lonsdale lovely individual. Throw bron and the queen's will reach the moon rent such a genuine race in that chechen stakes Was in front or on the front end all the way and found an amazing amount. I felt in the conditions over that stiff. Seven phones chiro. Having only seconds. Starting i think majesty agra decent one there and by sea the stars the absolute legend chris. I'm very fine. And what does it very race. You're going to get so many tweets going who through the darlie july the darlie to like was Obviously the feature race of the july meeting and you talk about throwing a blanket over the phone with fields. Similar story bought Starman emerged victorious tomorrow on board. There was something with ashim murphy. Afterwards about picking the wrong horse was being polite answering that. I don't think he had the option I think he came in for the right on on starman when tom wasn't available but i don't think that this was a case of a choice. He was just being very polite Dragon symbols a monstrous race defending champion and roy. Ascott hero oxted Has run a monstrous. We've our power and there for large getting the scumbag each way money A royal ascot hero in creative force and ari'el ascott second finishing sixth so there's not an enormous amount between them and yet the more i watched this back the more comfortable. It seems for starman. Yeah i i degree. I think he's one lane in in what was on is probably the best sprint of season And was a very strong looking renew. I think the point about as she murphy. I think you'll roy. He probably didn't the choice in that he was always gonna stay loyal to dragon single anyway. Because i think he had a hand in the boeing did just been well documented and. I thought it was an exceptionally strong july. Will there were several holes in the coulda put a stop folders. And he's overcoming little bit of interfere Roman at the end he's wet on top. Dragons similar run that superb race in the world cup as discussed earlier age and was disqualified off from first place. But what what struck me. And i take. Dragon symbol on on. Saturday was the way that he encamping. Nanny who five things clear the others komo's cup in the united for me. That's always a massive take when tools or even the first three. Come clear the others of the you can be pretty positive about the full moon and he ran a fantastic price as As well all power had his own way of things on the fall admit he's probably run. The rice in his life possibly helped by being on that false ought to be able to just blast off. But i will quite impressed by the fifth creative force who all four of his previous races that season and he was running at the finish. One won seven photos the road racing in the jersey stakes previously. He looks russell. These still getting better. And even glenn shield. It was just behind them on ground. That really would have been quick enough for him. He's run another fantastic something. He's a remarkable slain share. What what she wants has done with him. I think is is quite stupendous because go back a couple of years He was an import Frontside get come from france and he was basically you know rated little bit low lower than well lower than than you would expect to finishing in july companies. Just done nothing but go forward from what she wants. Some but 'cause most of his best form was coming with cutting the ground as it Boys win in the champion sprint. On champions day also titus o. I thought that was a particularly critical. Run from glenn. Shield who at the age said to be getting better and better. I think there's big race wins in those five dragging symbol oxted art power creative force and glen. She'll still to come in terms of starman. How much higher can he go and perform. And what would you like to see from next well. One of the inhibitors will be the ground. Because he's definitely a false ground holes. He's the any blot on his career was behind glen. Shiel ascot in october on very soft ground. Where you're getting a folder So he's gonna have conditions to suit. I've got a little bit of a a not this morning actually that One of the slot holders full the everest in australia that Extraordinarily valuable race has been in touch with the connections of storm and fishing whether they might be interested That might be a little bit exclusive on the final film that and it but i think the racing post will have it tomorrow but is a chance that he could run in that. We've beaten them. We've we've minded they anyway. Two ways of looking at that. Obviously the the travelling and the difficulties Getting into different countries at the moment is is is is is not straightforward but he probably would get his ground in australia. And it may be very tempting when you consider what is targets was six photons all potential targets in this country and you probably looking the haydock sprint baby the champion sprint. Again on champion. Stay in both of those races. It could be too so far. Yeah so if i were. The connections astonished little approach from somebody with a stake in the everest. Ibm keen to learn a.

That are personal I'm not really interested in in doing things that other people have done in the same way. I mean the people that i always admire Our people whether they be film directors writers or actors are people that have a style. That's very specific. I mean whether you're talking about somebody stanley kubrick or or alfred hitchcock or even steven spielberg. You know if you wanna just do the director as you can watch a few frames of their movies and go. Well that's kubrick felt you know. That's a hitchcock though Anyway riders of the same way Actors people like you know. Anthony perkins for instance who admired deeply is so specific in the style of acting. That he does that you go well. Nobody else would done that. Role like anthony perkins would have Christopher walken is another one. You know all this kind of stuff. interests me..
