Dinesh Continues His Review of the Midterm Election Results

"I'm back and we're talking about the midterms and some results have come in in the last day or so. In fact, I mean I were talking together about results out of New York. A number of congressional races that were poised kind of on the knife's edge or were right in the middle have tipped over into the Republican column. Let's remember, by the way, we think of New York, we're like, wow, New York really? What? But New York is fairly conservative outside of New York City. So as you begin to move Long Island as you move upstate, you republicanism is not uncommon, and in some ways it's even the majority. So it's only because of the dense population of New York that New York is a safely by and large democratic state. But what you have here is races that were that had about an equal number of Republicans and Democrats. So maybe even democratic leaning falling the Republican way. Now what does this mean? Well, it basically helps us in the house. And we have to give credit to this guy Lee zeldin, Lee zeldin ran against Kathy hochul for the governor's race, and he lost, but he lost pretty narrowly. I mean, if you look at those numbers between Zelda and hulk, I mean huckel won it pretty cleanly, but it was not the normal blowout. It wasn't something where hoku got 60 and zeldon got 40. It was something where these guys were just a few points apart and what that means is that Zelda had a sort of coattail in New York. He was able to pull up some of the other Republicans. By the way, this was just a confirmation of how politics works in teams. In other words, if you do well at the top of the ballot, you often do better at the bottom of the ballot. One of the anomalies of 2020 was the Trump lost, but Republicans down ballad did pretty well. This is an anomaly that I think about when I, as I put the film together 2000 meals and also wrote the wrote the accompanying book.

"Here's John catsimatidis. With us today is David Patterson, former governor of the state of New York, and also democratic state chairman of New York State. Good morning, governor. How are you? Good morning, John. Well, it's a very interesting week in New York. Congressman Lee zeldin made a statement in double down on it that when he becomes governor, he's going to issue an executive order suspending the bail reform bill and also some other. Laws in the state because of an emergency and he says the emergency is the crime rate. Now this is opens up a fascinating conversation. Because first of all, the difference between the New York State constitution and our U.S. Constitution is the U.S. Constitution has described enumerative powers. In other words, they tell you what you can do. New York State's constitution is just the opposite. We have limited powers. In other words, we tell you what you can't do. Now, when I appointed a lieutenant governor and they took me to court and I won, the reason I won is because nowhere in the state constitution did it say that the governor could not appoint a lieutenant governor. What delta is going to try to do is to follow behind that and say nowhere in the state does it say that he can't suspend these laws. Now, the problem he would have if he really tried to do that is in article 28 of the executive law, which is the governance part of it. It basically describes what the emergencies are and they talk about hurricanes and tornadoes and far fires because they were having a lot of them when they first had the New York State constitution. But none of them seem to be the same as what Zelda is trying to do, which is really a political fight, which will be solved at the polls. And it was kind of a stunt to try to get more people to vote for him, which is fine. But if he actually won, I don't think you could actually do it. Now, meanwhile, his opponent, Kathy hochul made some news this week as well with Kathy hochul did as she said that President Biden has got to take responsibility for the migrants that are all over this country and that's a pretty stunning statement coming from a candidate for governor, but it shows the kind of independence that I've been saying that has been her career. I think for a while while she's been running for governor, you haven't seen it as much, but here's a very good example of her independently jumping out and basically telling the president. You've got to do something better than what you're doing right now. With cancer about 20, 23, 24 days, whatever it is to the election. I saw Kathy governor hoku last week. And I said to her that you got to make our city safe. And her staff person telling me they are internally talking about it. Have you been part of those talks? I had a conversation with other people from her campaign on that subject. Governor hoku has got to reinvent the congresswoman hochul when she was representing buffalo in the House of Representatives, and I think speak to the feelings of New Yorkers. Yes, the crime overall is down a little bit from last year and yes, we're doing better than Chicago and Philadelphia. But wait wait, the governor, governor, the crime is down from last year. The New York City statistics are mixed. I don't think the people feel like that that are walking around the streets in New York. I don't think the people feel like that that we're running are going trying to go into the subway. Well, John, that's exactly what I'm saying, and that's actually what I said here last week that I feel that way. And so when you're in an election, it's not about the issues and the facts all the time. It's about how the voter is feeling and I think her comments this week about the migrants hit upon how the voters are feeling and that she does that and the other 22 or 23 days, I think she'll win by ten to 12 points. What else would you like to tell the American people? Congestion pricing. They're going to suck our blood. They're going to destroy New York City. What say you? You live here. Well, John, I would have said that, but you just did. So all I can say is ditto. I mean, it's just not for this particular time. When we're trying to bring business back, we're trying to get people more comfortable being in the city to levy. That kind of what is basically a tax on people, I don't think is getting is going that far. One of the other issues that I think is kind of right right now are the disputes about the January 6th hearings, and I remember saying to you guys the other day, I wouldn't be surprised if president Trump went right down and let them interview him and I still think that he's going to do that. And if nothing else, that will be a show that will be what are you going to must see TV? Yes. The joke I said yesterday, does that mean they're going to turn off the cameras if Trump got there? And then nobody will hear what he says to say? Right. But it certainly was quite an exciting week in New York. Well, you know, governor, thank you so much for coming on and thank you for your common sense input and I think if people could vote for you, they would be voting for you again. Well, I hope they don't get the chance because if they do it will mean that I have suffered more from mental illness than I ever thought I did. Well, thank you governor Patterson and we'll catch up with you and get in real soon

The Disturbing New Theme of Democrats Refusing to Debate

"This disturbing theme we've been hitting it and I don't even have an exhaustive list here of Democrats that are refusing to debate their Republican counterparts, carry Lake with Katie Hobbs, Shapiro of mastriano, fetterman with Oz, he won't debate until a later date, zeldin with hoku, the new model of quote unquote, democracy is so oligarchic. And Madison warned about this in the federalist papers because every time democracy is actually mentioned in the federalist that's actually mentioned negatively, the word democracy does not show up in the Declaration of Independence, doesn't show up in the constitution. It does a couple mentions in the federalist papers, but only negatively, not positively. And this kind of new model of democracy, if you will, or this kind of new blueprint is answer zero adversarial questions, do a bunch of fundraisers from a bunch of very wealthy, woke, white, miserable people with more money than anything, but very little joy and happiness. A lot of them live in Silicon Valley, live in Seattle. They live in Portland, they live in D.C., they live in Boston, they live in New York, very wealthy, high paying tech jobs, unfulfilled lives, and then these candidates just kind of hide at home and they don't debate. It's deeply disturbing. It is unsustainable. If you have an entire American political party that basically says we don't do debates anymore. I don't care what your position is. That is an oligarchy.

"And I'm Susanna Palmer in the Bloomberg newsroom looking at an increase in coronavirus cases in the state governor Kathy hoku ordered all businesses to require masks indoors if they don't have a COVID-19 vaccine requirement She said she wants to keep the New York economy open I don't want to go back ever again To that place where people couldn't go their jobs safely couldn't congregate Kids couldn't go to schools Huckle said in the briefing Friday that we are entering a time of uncertainty and we could either plateau here or our cases could escalate beyond control Scientists in London weren't England could face between 24,774 1800 deaths from COVID-19 this winter without further restrictions to slow the spread of the omicron variant JPMorgan Chase and company is preparing to pay roughly $200 million to resolve U.S. regulatory investigations into lapses over monitoring employee communications We're hearing a settlement with the commodity futures trading commission could be reached before the end of the year Wall Street firms are required to carefully monitor communications involving their businesses The unusually stiff sanctions for surveillance serve as a warning for the financial industry However effort is going to clear West Coast ports of all those containers and ships Pacific maritime association president James McKenna spoke about that with Bloomberg's David Weston Well it depends on how you look at it We have done a lot better in getting inbound cargo imports out of the terminals and to the warehouses So that's the plus We still have a lot of empties on the dock and we're sending empty loaders in to pick them up So everything is focused on continuing to create fluidity in the terminals Global news 24 hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quick take powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than 120 countries I am Susanna.

"Live from NPR news I'm Duane Brown On Capitol Hill both parties are digging in ahead of a Christmas deadline set by Democrats to get President Biden's build back better social and climate legislation through the Senate Republican senator Lindsey Graham citing a new estimate from the congressional budget office showing the bill would add trillions to the federal deficit if the social programs like the child tax credit were extended for ten years What I see are shell games and budget gimmicks They make the real cost of this so called $1.7 trillion bill estimated to be twice as high if the programs are extended or made permanent That's not what democratic leaders are proposing and they call the Republican numbers bogus They say the bill would be paid for with tax hikes on the wealthy and big corporations and the bill extends the expanded child tax credit for just one year along with free preschool for 6 years The state of New York has announced a new COVID mandate all indoor public places that do not require proof of full vaccination for entry must require masks In PR's Jasmine guards reports New York governor Kathy hogel announced the measure today citing a surge in COVID related hospitalizations and a decrease in hospital bed capacity Statewide the COVID hospitalization total has climbed to 3489 That's the highest it's been in months Governor hoku said the omicron COVID variant is spreading rapidly through New York and said nearly three dozen hospitals throughout the state have had to put a pause on non-essential elective procedures The man that goes into effect on Monday and will be reassessed in mid January Refusing to comply with the order comes with a possible fine of up to a $1000 Jasmine Garth NPR news New York This is NPR From WAB news in Atlanta I'm susanne.

What You Gonna Do, Joe? Call in the National Guard?

"I love the part in Biden's rant yesterday where he says if federal support is needed. I'll direct appropriate action. If the private sector, what are you gonna do, you're gonna replace truck drivers with the National Guard? Like Democrats wanted to replace nurses with in New York State. Remember at goofy governor hoku, bringing the National Guard to be nurses. Yeah, bringing the National Guard to drive trucks, too. Maybe we can bring in National Guard to do everything. Work in the grocery stores. Deliver packages, go for Amazon. Let's get busted. Let's get in the National Guard, Joe.
