"Tech billionaire Ed Norton spoofing Elon Musk. You expected a puzzle, but this is not a game. I love that Craig has found a post Bond franchise surrounded by an all star ensemble Dave Bautista as a gun toting Twitch star Kate Hudson as a canceled fashion designer Leslie Odom junior as the scientist Catherine Hahn as the politician and Janelle monae stealing the show as the ex business partner. In the end, the twist doesn't feel earned, more like filmmaker rian Johnson pulling a fast one, but the movie is preposterous fun, no more no less. "Are meeting people one after the next, who have made profound changes. So many life lessons that are going on in these conversations. This is my hour to be recharged. This is my hour to learn. My hour to grow. And I think it could be the same for you. Join hoda kotb for her podcast, making space. Listen now. Let's talk about leadership because everyone's leadership role changes. And I know some leaders who have to lead from the front of the ship because they want everyone to see them. Look at me. I'm up here. Then I know people who lead from the back because they don't need the credit, but they can navigate better. Some people get their hands in the middle of it. Some people don't. So Carly, how has your leadership style evolved? Because you were a 25 year old in charge, now you're 35 year old in charge. How are you different than you were ten years ago in what ways? I feel like it's important to fact check. I was 26 and now 36. So it's going to put it out there. Danielle is like, thank you for clarifying. I was 25 and now I'm 35. We got it. So I think my style has changed. Thank God because I think it was really rough in the beginning. I think that I've had every role in that ship, which is my strength, is that I'm really passionate about what I do, and what we're building, and I try to operate with being generous in spirit. And I love being on a team and I love collaborating with people and feeling like we're all doing the same thing. But it's also really hard because I'm really passionate and this is the baby that we created. And so it's tricky to how do you bring people along with what you're seeing. And I think that I'm really, really good at the 200,000 foot view, the 30,000 foot view when you get to the details, the 10,000 and below. That's not my strength. And I think what I've actually really enjoyed about being at this scale and phase of a company is I actually don't have to be at that level anymore, which is great because I'm like, great. Put me in the vision stuff. But it's meant that it's been a total learning curve and a lot of moments of really putting me out of my comfort zone and also failing a lot. And so I think it's, in many ways, when we started, we're like, this is going to be the hardest part ever of all of this, like getting off the ground, but in some ways that was the easiest part by far. Daniel, what about your style? How has it kind of evolved over the years? So I think in two ways, the first thing for me is communication. I really had

"It's. Tuesday, which means I different to Lena Dixon. Hey mister are you there? I am. How are you this morning, mister shooter? Hello, darling last week. You did the show solo 'cause I was sick. I'm still so grateful for that mystery you sounded fabulous. I missed you I missed you. I'm glad that I Tuesdays are back to normal. Let's jump in. We've got gossip to get to. What time is it my Friends? It is. It's daytime. So after 8 years, hoda and Joel Schiffman have broken up, saying we are better as friends and parents. So herder announced the split from her fiance after 8 years under today's show. The two of them share two daughters together. Hayley joy. I love that name. She's four and hope who is just two years old. He's a businessman. Hoda said the following quote, Joel and I have had a lot of prayerful moments and really meaningful conversations over the holidays and we've decided that we are better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple. So what happened is hoda stopped wearing her ring on the show. If you're on a TV show every single day, those viewers notice everything people noticed that she was not wearing her ring..

"So maybe it'll get even edgier just. So if I get a little rocky. Right. I hope we get the Little Rock. Yeah, I can do. I feel like artists at times feel like once they have a child, they often get nothing else them feel whole. This is my full womanhood. I know exactly how I feel. I am complete. So let me tell you the full story. And I think that's why singers and songwriters never go immediately to the nursery rhymes, they go straight to the bedroom. Because I know what to talk about. I've been there. I've done that. I've got to bring something to the table. And I think there's such a great little moment too of that when you become a mother. It's never about it's not about you anymore. It's about somebody else. So it's sort of to me it was sort of freeing of like, you know what? I don't care what people think about me. I'm worried more about that. So you have to meet it with sort of a little bit more freedom in a way. Oh wow. Can you have too many things? I do. I have a teenage boy. It was 16, but I get it. Yeah. Yeah. It makes one teenage boy for Nick Cannon. He never calls. I know. Because he's got fire you. I know. He's got problems. From babies to breakups, we have some sad news to share. Actually, not that sad. Hoda kotb just announced she and her fiance Joel called it quits after 8 years together. Joe and I have had a lot of prayerful and really meaningful conversations over the holidays. And we decided that were better as friends and parents than we are as an engaged couple. And it's not like something happened. You know, they say sometimes relationships are meant to be there for a reason. For a season or for a lifetime. And I feel like ours was meant to be their four season. Wow. This is why hearts sad, yes, that two people broke up. But the reason why I say not sad is because we forget that 8 year relationship is a successful. Especially in Hollywood. And not sad because it didn't end on terrible terms. No one was brought through them. These people made a conscious decision an adult decision. Yeah. To put themselves in a situation that they were meant. You know what I mean? Yeah. And the child involved and there's love. For me, I don't know. I'm just in love with love. I hate breakups. You know what I mean? And, you know, they are of a certain age. And past that, you know, so love doesn't come. Love is fleeting. But yes, but I'm happy you brought that up. What? Because I think a lot of people think because you're of a certain age and these opportunities don't come around very often. And sometimes people stay stuck in situations because exactly. And the thing is, you know what? Tomorrow you're just going to get older. Time is still going to march on. So you still have a lot of life and a lot of love left to give and thank you. Well, I've already this age. Why should I try that? Well, you're still gonna be this age tomorrow. And you still didn't try this. So try it. And the thing about her is I feel like, I mean, I just think she's so wonderful and I know that she is together and the thing about being an adult about it and realizing that it's time to move on is that it's not a racing the beauty that they had one of those 8 years. And how old is the baby? They've got 5 and two. Yeah, they're younger. And that's so young. You know what I mean? But that's am I going to say she said we are going to be parents or about office? Parents were better off as friends. Yeah. I think that Joel and holder are gonna beat each other's lives forever. And I think yeah. To choose happiness. Yes. Is that big deal? And I bet there's a sense of relief. I mean, you know her. Your Friends. I feel like it must have been so hard and she knows it didn't just happen yesterday. This has been something that's been weighing on her. And I think that today must have felt like a big relief and I know that I hope both of them feel love and support from everyone because I feel like I know we're in lover and I know she's in our room there. Yeah. How many women are going to hear this story and decide to choose choose happiness? Because life is that choice. That's right. Yeah. And it's empowering. I know a lot of women. It's free. A lot of women in my life, a lot of women I grew up around a lot of women that I have as friends who have not chosen happiness because they stop at a certain age. And you know what? That's the thing is things that we stay in because they're not making it as happy. We do because we're afraid. And what she did is so very, very brave. Both of them, too. Well, this champion them. And he used to happiness. There's tears to happiness. Cheers. Cheers. Let's just hope they're happy. You guys call a point of care hood. It seems like Nick Cannon can't stop making baby. Oh. He was seen at what looked like a gender reveal party for a model brissie. Guess we're popping balloons of blue. I'm ready and Nick and Brie were at the center of it all. Wow. He also hasn't exactly confirmed it. But it looks like if this is Nick's baby, this will be baby number four, just in this past year and his 8th kit from his 5th baby mama. Can someone come after us to bring out those diagrams about how babies are made? Oh, my God. Can we just call him Nick condom? No, candy. Didn't stop it. No, no real it's embarrassing. It's a lot. It's too much. No, no, no. Really? It's a piece of candy..

"So you know I've done that by accident. But never on purpose. So I think yeah. I mean, is she look at how? I mean, come on. She's hair, makeup, wardrobe ready. Ready? So this is the world. And my presentation. You know, she's too cool. She do it herself. She's too cool to be like, hey, you guys, guess what? I'm pregnant. She's gonna do it this way. And she's gonna have everybody afraid to ask her any questions about that. Maybe. But you know what? The minute I run into her? That's the first thing I'm asking her. She's beautiful. I mean. I mean, I'm looking at it. She's already stunning, but think about that, you know, that mother glow. It's fair at this point. Right. Like I can feel it. I mean, it's like looking into an eclipse right now. I mean, it's just, it's so gorgeous. Yeah. And I just got to say ASAP Rocky, if there was pressure on you before, from just dating Rihanna. There are going to be all eyes on you. And you bet that girl. But not best for my girls. You better be good. Daddy. But they're so in love. So happy to them. You know what's really interesting is that when you go back and Rihanna's collection of music collection of men. I'm like, what? We never do that. We never go back there. No, no, no. But if you go back in her collection of music, her lyrics are so edgy. Do you think having a child is going to change that? Oh. You go ahead for doing it. You know what it is? She's from Barbados. And I think it's going to be a balance. You know what I mean? Yeah, she's got that edge, but don't cook for her children. Don't look her children. I don't need anything to make her more of a mama bear as far as that, but I do think that when you do become a mother, it does change you. It changes all sort of aspects of your life. I think it'll bleed into her music a little bit. So it's sweet for her baby. I did not. How could anyone? I mean, she looks so happy. Yeah. I feel like Beyoncé got, you know, nastier when blue was born. We were patient after she had that baby. Justin, it's exhausting. 100%..

"Really good for them. I lean looks incredible early. Good damn good. This this would have been fun to fill is fun. You beast going. That would have been super exciting. You get to do it like it feels like. They got to take out a little bit of aggression. Maybe that they always had inside them. So that's good acting like that. I think you need that or like one of those rooms. One of those rooms will go to smash everything. I think wrecking room. Yeah yeah no. I think i'm gonna keep holding stuff. The only thing scarier than lisa reynaud with a broken wine glasses her with a bow speaker in an instagram story. Am i right. What type of dance is she going to do this time. We're going to be watching this and some peacock you can yeah and has gone viral. That might actually be helpful. Or just make you a little paranoid cybersecurity. Expert share all the way. Someone can hide a camera in your airbnb and we'll never be the same again. This thing you're gonna want to look for is devices that a conveniently placed where creeper would want to look take this far alone for instance it's placed right above the bed now. One way to save a device as a camera is to shine a bright light out that if you had a camera lens is going to give a bluish reflection now. This clock is mirrored but if we shine a bright light so that we can see through the glass and see a camera to these camera lenses of very small as you can see here so they can be hidden in anything even a hole in the wall. I feel like most ambi. Airbnb would have these right like i feel like the owner wants to know what's going on within the house for veteran because then you get bedrooms bathrooms. But i wouldn't wanna say never be. That has a camera like. That's just such an invasion of privacy. I'm with you a hundred percent. That's just making me very uncomfortable for every arab airbnb. Why cannot say airbnb today. Thank you thank you. I do now. I just make sure that everything i'm doing is like a good angle. Oh my gosh you turned on always. If you found out you were being recorded you love it. You'd eat it up. Oh i would start. I'd get very performance. I'm not sure it'd be a skillet milk gang angles shore cooking. It is helpful to people who maybe would have no idea right like they have no idea that people would do this in airbnb but the other people who are watching or people who are trying to figure out where i put this tiny little this little all right next that you've seen this taco bell testing a monthly subscription service. Oh taco bell for just ten bucks a month you can get a taco lovers pass which gives subscribers a taco a day for thirty days. Is this genius or thirty dollars a month. A little overboard you guys what do you what would you want one taco a day. They want you to like go every day. And then you get like a baja blast and some cinnamon sticks. They don't think what taco bill no but that's like the meam bob last people love that from taco bell. Okay i love chicken burrito from taco sour cream is like kinda moist in hot. I just love tacos. I like to talk a little burrito. And you're drug is good but that's that that food makes you not well after absolutely magnesium kicks in the taco past comes with health insurance. I think because there's no way you're mad of it anyway. We have to take another break. But coming guy comes up with the craziest. Avoid having sex with his girlfriend but now he's mad that she's played along still welcome back. We missed you. We may not be judges but we do have years of television experience under our belt. So we've earned the right to make some rulings that's my gavel take time or let's show jiji no joe one two three one two three for nina. She didn't get doing it on your own. Then we made it. This couple started having problems after they moved in with a friend. Yes obviously this guy wasn't getting the job done in the bedroom. So he told his girlfriend she could go elsewhere. Was there something going on between you and your friend prior to the two of you moving in. No your honor honestly. I felt like maybe we could be there for each other and eventually it actually made me want her physically as well and i told him. This is not what i want. I want you to learn how to operate a woman's body during sex because one have sex it was all about him and he actually told me he would rather me go sleep with my friend. He didn't wanna do the he didn't want him to my needs. So you're telling me before you actually slip with your friend he told you to do. It was okay. Yes you do it. And you mr parrish your your honor. Yes ma'am it is and this this woman you could tell. She told the truth because she was upset. She was very upset. That was a woman who was fed up with not getting her needs. Met honey prize. The guy with that haircut and facial hair couldn't satisfy women anyway this guy. I think he's douche lord but it was not selfish of him because he did say go. Do what you need to get one hundred percents selfish of him. You're in a relationship you're married and your partner isn't satisfied. You told them to go somewhere else. Right well selfish. That's why the divorce courts happening but good for good for. Yeah we're gonna move on. Yes we're all guilty of doing some strange things when we're alone in our houses but on the people's court this woman got a little too comfortable while she was renting a room in another woman's house. Well i walk around the house nude when nobody's there when nobody's there because no one wants that. I was walking around like from the bathroom to to my room and sometimes also get my towel in my bedroom. You ever see our nude on any of that. One time i want. She had just moved in. I guess she hadn't heard us in the apartment. I walked in and she's like oh i'm naked and i thought that was a little odd because not even i am naked in my own apartment. Okay all right but make it is a lot. I mean relationship book nicot is a lot like you know like boy shores and like a little of sports bra or something i think is okay but i think also the other person has a partner and you're walking around butt naked. That's very inappropriate inappropriate. And what i mean. I agree a hundred live with a girl and her boyfriend. And i'm walking around naked. That's a lot and also it doesn't seem like they were roommates. It's like that she was basically like renting space from her. So i think that's also a different dynamic when you're renting a room from somebody you lose a lot of the naked liberal. Yes you know. That's like at that point. You just said you have no choice being like completely butt naked when you have like a package or something like things to do with your home however say i've already knocking things over with these things. I need look too cozy. I'm gonna be cozy in my house. Person yeah same. We can't nina. And i can't do like she said we're not gonna things over all the time. I don't know what.

I'm very happy when i have sex. I will opt in stress at the same time. Let's turn it showing. Let's start off on an awkward note. News of bodyguard. Remake has fans saying hell no. They're pretty the originals legacy especially with all the bizarre casting rumors going around i. There's channing tatum and cardi b. o. With with this lead other there's more beast got a big ass head right now. I actually. I stayed late yesterday to help so please then some have suggested. Liz oh and chris evans. You know. because it's photoshop. Hunter you do. I really made sure like the position of the two of you was perfect. It's the best photoshop for sure. Do like the picture. It's a great great. Yeah like michael jordan. No i don't wanna be holding michael jordan. We should remake the bodyguard. What do you think about this. I'm tired of everything being redone. I granted. I don't know any remake that's better than the original within the last twenty years. This sars born was good but that was there was good. That was you're right but also it's whitney you just can't touch it. You can't try to sing her song. You can't try to alex. She just lied whitney. It is too high of a level to try to achieve. They've helped us a real. So yeah i think it'd be like gaga style stars. Yeah i could see god about doing this now. She's she's gonna she's gucci of me. I cannot wait wait. I want that thing gucci out. We should rent a movie theater and watch it. I love our new friend morgan. Yeah this is if you wanna go watch movie arrogant. Jane's crazy story on last night's real house. Beverly hills is barking a debate. It involves burglary burglars. Burglars is a hard word to say. By the way the word burgers anymore were nine hundred fifty two hamburglar nobler anymore it involves. What would you say robbery robbery robbery. It involves a robbery surgery and a car flipping in the snow all in the same day and something she might be making. it up. house is broken into and he confronted the burglar and then had to go is surgery and then my son had to go and then my son. He rolled his car five times in the way home. Yeah i'm under stress. What on erica withhold information. She just makes it hard to be able to support her. Yeah he confronted the burglar and then add to go to the hospital and then have some sort of surgery. I don't really even know loss. But and i think like pressure and the anxiety and whatever. I'm not sure who will the car for the my son went. 'cause i can't go and then on his way home it was snowing and he wrote. This story obviously sounds unbelievable. They're snowing in pasadena. He lives further out. Your son is okay. He's fine and we think tom's okay. I know he made it out of surgery okay. I don't know what happened after that. Wait a minute with no so pasadena. Which i will say if you do remember this is a fact and you can google elizabeth. No you're on it a year ago. There was a hailstorm in pasadena. Do you remember that everyone's snow so this did ring. Give me a break. I gotta stick up for your mom any but no it was one thing like one of those stories would have been enough. There was a burglary. Which i can't even believe i'm saying burglary but there was a burglary in fact that she's even saying that makes me feel like it's a lack. Nobody comes up uses. You know there was a burglary in my house. you say home invasion. Oh home in earlier. Isn't tom like one hundred in. Yeah well right you tell me. His confronted burglars to tell the cousin. It's called inza jealousy. It's when you scroll through your friends feeds and become envious especially when they didn't invite you to something like when you guys went to dinner with lonnie. When i was sick at home to dinner i was i was in. I was sick exactly with no one knew this yet. It was undercover still. Had a feeling it's hoda and just on the today show look at the. I should have called you and what i wear but where how about do you want to go what to been a fun show. This is a good conversation by the way. I can't wait. Us open next week and you guys can see on. My stories is still going on next week. I think but it is. I don't get like that like this. There's only there's a couple of times. I do get like that. I think with you once with me once what you were doing. But i was like really. I don't know i was yelling at you about something. But he wasn't going to do and then he did it anyway. I don't get mad when people are having fun. Most of the time. i'm tired. I want to be asleep. "Cannot deal with like bloody murder like bring it on. I don't. I don't know why you already answered. What my next questions. Which was like did you find that it made you kind of paranoid dollar changed how you move through the world already wise or just be like brought up to be very paranoid door. Lock my my partner. Now get so annoyed at me. Because i have my car set where when i turn it off. None of the doors walk. So i have to actually physically unlock any of the doors that i want access to and it drives him in sane any other car you turn it off and you're like oh i'm going to go into the backseat and you just open the door. And it's normal and i'm like no what if someone wants to murder me in the back seat. I mean that just being a woman in today's thing. I i can't speak for all of our listeners. But i feel like people are sitting and nodding especially the women because that's just standard that standard operating procedure exactly. And maybe that's why i like. I like true crime so much because it almost felt like a lifelong study of here are ways that i can continue to protect myself. I remember i went to target once with an old supervisor and it was nighttime. And he parked. He parked like really far away from the door because he was like well. There's nobody parked out here. So i don't have to worry about like anybody hitting my car. Anything like that. And i was like you have never been a woman because the places i look to park are as close the doors possible and under a light. Yeah this is neither of those things. I never would even come to the side of the parking lot and we had like a very like you know. Come to realization moment about like privilege in the patriarchy parking when you go to target totally totally. But i think women don't often well now. i think it's changing but until just a couple of years ago. I don't think women talked a lot about it. So even men who were married or had sisters or had daughters like didn't necessarily know that these are things that we do all the time and it's kind of just bad thing and running in the back of your mind constantly way okay. So let's before we end. Maybe you could tell us about like your favorite true crime thing right at this moment. Is there something that you're reading or watching that you really love. Yeah actually so. I won't say around twenty-six. I kind of stopped liking murdering things. So much definitely solicited my favorite murder But i kind of got to the point. I was like two full. I was like there's a lot going on in the world. And i can no longer intake anymore. Things.

"I have an allegation if i was going to kind of categorize that the one that i think is most unique to me and my is when i was aids. My mom was called for jury duty. And when you're call the jury duty you have no idea where you're going to be called for. And she happened to be called for like the biggest murder trial that was happening in my little hometown. Are that had ever happened in my little hometown. And she ended up being selected for the jury was she really tried to be because we apparently i i didn't at the time i was eight but we apparently knew the family. My dad owned a surf shop. And the girl who was involved in the murderer worked for the surf shop for a while and like had worked for my grandfather in our in our other store my grandfather owned so we like straight up new. The family knew the people involved and my mom was like here is my whole family history. Please don't select me to be on this this jury and was for some reason. That case was huge The trial went on for months. It was in the news. I can tell you a little bit about the trial. I will do a trigger warning because it's horrific trigger warning child murder. The girl was around my sister's surge issue. My sister's a little bit older than me. She was a college age. My sister annie. This girl girl had hidden her pregnancy and then had had the baby in her bathroom of her mom's house and allegedly had the baby alive and then wrapped the baby in garbage bags and hidden in the closet and so she was on trial for murdering her child. She said that the baby had been born already. Dead as this is like this horrific murder trial. The my mom is a part of she has to listen to all of these testimonies. She passed to sit through all these pictures. Worst thing that's ever happened. She ends up being chosen as an alternate which means that you don't have to be one of the people actually making the call as to whether somebody's guilty or not guilty but she got to be on dateline and we all got to meet hoda copy. Which is what. I remember from this horrible time in. My mom's life is that i got to see a dateline record. Embi castle monica resort in saint augustine florida. So we got to hang out at like this fancy resort were and meet hoda kotb e and see like all the behind the scenes of leg recording the news and so when i remember this time in my life i like it very excited when i first a copy most fun things and this is life really was and so after. That like i always. I always remember watching dateline. Always remember watching like forensic files and all of those kinds of stuff and be became like this like deity in our household like we love. What a copy. We watch everything she does. I bought her book for my sister. My sister had a baby..

"What relationship real or fictionalized defines love fear. I think about this one for a while. I have a best friend who i've known for twenty years. Her name's karen. She met her husband in new orleans. We we both live there. And he's a police officer she's reporter and it was beautiful romance and over the years. I watched that relationship. And i was always in awe that because it worked on all cylinders it worked as a partnership as a romantic relationship. They connected in all ways. And i hadn't seen many relationships that were everywhere usually. It's like well. This is from my friends. This is for my husband and it seemed like they had a connection that worked everywhere and got very very ill couple years ago and sadly he passed away and it was really since his passing that i i watched karen speak about the love. She has for him in this moment and i was so struck by the death i knew was deep. I think it was watching her number one. Go to hospital room after a room. For years and years writing notes writing notes write notes talking to doctors and other doctor. I the follow up to call. Why are they doing this. What's up with the insurance. It was endless endless. She was there. She was always there and i flew to. Md anderson a few times just to beat it with them and i walked in and she was always determined and driven and had that look and meantime she was flying priests in to talk to john and she's probably like the most selfless person i've ever met and the kindest and they have a daughter who's graduating high school in. There's a lot that's happening in that world yet here. She is speaking about the love of her husband. And it was underscored two weeks ago. I was asking her this question about a priest. Who had come to visit john when he was ill and he was from india. Sit ever happen to father vol of this priest who came to see okay in india with everything that's going on with covance. She said well. He's in a remote area. Should another building a church there and said oh. Wow that's terrific shoes. They step to walk five miles but now they're building one of their community as had they do that. That's great she's just got the you know all the equipment and things that they needed they don't take and i said great and she knows some of the equipment could be expensive but anyway they got it. I said how did they ask. They get all that equipment and things to build a jerk just they just got it my said. Please tell me how they got it. And she said supplies are inexpensive in. The dollar goes a long way. And i looked at her. I said okay. I did you as she doesn't ever say and then she said her husband's name is john pallone. She called it the john mara church. Oh my goodness like debts of first of all. Her humility is beyond my comprehension. She'll never tell you she's done something good. She probably regrets that. She told me that story because she doesn't like to share that. She's doing something she just does things. You know she'll give everything away. Not mentioned chief selflessly and with great humility. Help this community build a church. She didn't wanna mention it and they because they love john called it. The john pillow church is. She says he's as close to a sancta she can. Do you think that devotion and selflessness others the cornerstones of love or those beautiful. You put it that way. I guess feeling. I see it personified people but i guess i've never broke it down but yeah this is more than a week. Click more than we have a lot in common more than. I can tell him things you know. There's a debt there that i think is rare. I don't think everyone gets to experience that kind of relationship and he John on sundays he would go off in the morning. And she's i don't know what he's doing probably and etcetera etc. She didn't want until years later. He was always stopping at this. Woman's house to sit with her husband had died. That was one of his stops in the morning and talk about it. He just did it. And i said well. I think john's probably say you are just Saints don't say so. I could be. I bet all the cool saint's say fuck it just to watch that and they have this young daughter and just i'm watching her listen. It doesn't always shake out the way that he thinks it should in quotes and that young woman what she has had what she has seen of love and what she has experienced devotion is erasable. And we'll be with her forever and it's not that one should ever have an either or either you have a dad or you have this amazing example of devotion love but how incredible that she does have that and that's his legacy is very hard when you lose someone to think about legacies because he really just you don't care you care about the leg. I just want them here. I want them here to hug and to touch and to feel and to be with and talk to but the reality is if they've played the hand and it's done what is left behind them is really genuinely.

"Has grown out of a personal disaster. Yes there was. A biggie. Was working here at nbc and everything was great and worked at dateline. I was newly mary added. That was great. I went for a routine mammogram. And she l. something and she said you should get it checked so in this weird span of a week. I found out that i needed a mistake to me. And at the same time. I found out that the guy who has married to was being unfaithful and i literally was like what is happening like what happened. I understand and i wait for surgery and was horrible. So in that time afterwards i was in covering which was just laying around watching law and order and trying to figure out what i was matter about the sickness or the soon to be ex husband and in the middle of all of it. I had this weird tiffany which happens. I think sometimes when everything is any and all of a sudden. I realized i had made it and i got these four words that sort of came to me and they were new. Can't scare me. And i learned it. Were they were starting a new hour of the today show for our and i did something i've never done before i've never really liked raised my hands and pick me for this job because here's why i'm so good. I just worked really hard. I was like senior over here on the one working with you. Want to promote Over here like i was that one not the one who strung themselves with christmas lights at how good they were so in this moment with that epiphany that feeling i was having i said no what i'm going to go ask for that job and i still remember i got in the elevator thirty rock and went to the fifty second floor which was all the way up and i walked into jeff's uppers office at the time was heading up nbc. And i said jeff had Better you can't scare me. I want this job. You're who you get. He'd been through break so he understood that feeling of unstop ability kind of and i finished my speech. My heart pounding. I've never done that. People saw me as dateline person. I was aghanistan. I had a couple of producers pulling for me and i ended up getting that job. I thought to myself. Oh my god. If i haven't gotten sick. I got like i wouldn't have the courage have mojo gone up. I would have never asked waited. Like i usually do. But instead it was urgent like my life had margins. It was the beginning and an end. Like stop wasting time. That hit me was like all of a sudden light was urgent and that happened. I ended up getting it. And i thought well talk about silver lining of a yucky horrible terrible couple. Years turned into a job that turned into another job. I mean i can't even believe. I'm fifty six and i'm doing the today like how did that happen. Like how did it happen. I'm still stunned. Even now as i sit in my office wondering like wow that was weird but i think that was it going through a horse in a sickness and going through two things at once. It's like you can't really pile all your sadness in one place gotta split. Maybe that helps you in. We're way like a mad at him. Why i sick. You know that i'm white. I'm feeling better jack. And so all of a sudden like oh okay. Well you're i am. I think i made it through. Wow god i wish when the really bad hud stuff was happening that concurrent with fair and worry and fair and worry could be this idea that i know something's going to grow out of this. I i know that this is not for nothing. Is funny that we can look back. And we can see that but at the time when it's happening astonishes me that we can't comfort ourselves with what is most likely going to happen. Which is as he said. Something grows. yes. Yeah you're right. I would have loved to have known in the middle of all those days like. Don't worry a something coming because then you realize like you're only here for a minute so you do you. That's it that's all you get one right around the sun so you can tell around everyone feel better and do what you do or you can speak it. Say it out loud..

"Place or experience has shaped you the most. What would be your last meal. And can you tell me something in your life that has grown out of a personal disaster. The more people we ask the moon we begin to see what makes us similar. I'm what makes us individual. I've gathered a group of really remarkable people honored and humbled to have had a chance to engage with my guest. Today is heard a copy who is really the most surprising and interesting person. Hey we probably already think. We know. I know i did. She spend the cohen co the today show since two thousand eighteen been a tireless advocate for breast cancer awareness and surviving cancer herself and became a mother later in life which gives her a perspective. Motherhood the i found extremely relatable and joyful okay so like you know these questions to hear what your aunt sasol. What would be your lost. Mail a debate this. Because i think i would have joel's salmon salmon. Every saturday ended is the best. Sam it like melts in your mouth and it reminds me of us would have that i would have really crispy crunchy delicious french fries only because my whole life. That's been my comfort food. And i would love that. I would have moms faulk levada. I close my eyes in tasted she's eighty six and she still makes it. It's delicious at. It reminds me of all the goodness in my mom. Our kitchen kids and then would probably eat about three gallons vice not allowed to eat ice cream dairy. I will eat that matter. You problem yeah wondered what i wanna eat at all. Who knows maybe feel terrible at to bury my team is mary and she's outside eating sandwich. Martinez my dog. He's gonna balk definitely married. she's like. I just have ice water. Are you stop it. Oh i got your last meal. Yeah i mean. I realize asking this question. The implicit in the question is you know. And then you're going to die or that's it it's out and it's like. Isn't that what we'd really be thinking about what mary's is like. I wouldn't be able to eat a thing. I would just drink water. I didn't know. I think it's that. What is the food that connects you most to life regardless of whether you're about to die on no i love food much when i speak to people who like you know it's fuel i just wanna i just wanna punch them really. What i. what are my favorite desserts is shake cake like a sheet birthday cake. Yeah i just want to sit on my couch. Sometimes because i make everybody's birthday nice. I suppose lemay couch. When i can't be myself when people around with big slowed and that she came and just sit there and just scoop that up like that would be when my favorite nights. I just agree with you. There is covert food that is a category of living. Doesn't get enough play. Like i like standing up in my kitchen with a sheet of mozza with really thick delicious french salted butter. And marmite and i'd like to stand up and listen to the radio and look at what's happening on the street. Total rear window. It with my mom. I am monster. I've never told anybody that hoda. I'm never admitted that thighs. Why like to do. And i like to stand up what i'm doing it. But the covert eating joel headed the idea eight when with went out of town like when the kids go to bed at jones out chirpin chicken has a rack of ribs. That has all kinds of barbecue. I literally get a roll of paper. Towels i sit by the tv on. The floor is gross. And i just go for it. And i like done with it. They to dispose of the evidence. Just in case. I've done that special trash bag for food that you don't want anyone to know the aid. I was imagining that. It's a full rack of ribs. It's not even a half rack earl. And stop myself as tmi is when i eat enough of the way have cast pour it a lot because sometimes it after an hour some but didn't have to ruin it so that you can't go back sitting on top of the plan is still okay. Every woman every woman. I know except the one he said the food was fuel understands that whoring on something to ruin it. Do you remember. In the beginning of thelma and louise. This is great scene. Gena davis is on the phone with her husband. He's being horrible and she just keeps going to the fridge and she takes out like a snickers bar and she takes it by then she wraps she puts her back in. She goes and she eats the whole thing through the whole scene. An idea that always. I pretend like i'm not going to finish the chocolate bar. The cake the bonds. The ice cream the moat. She a super thin of kate. Tiny.

What's Next for Muslims in America?

"Audit hoda. Novus anomoly continue all Thank you joining us here. On this table where we are discussing. How post election forts. And what's next for muslims in america. I'm sure you can all agree. It's been crazy times and in many ways we're kind of up the woodsmen anyways we're entering new self woods with new challenges to face. I wanted to start off just by asking. What role did muslim voters play in this election. The way we've done things in the past. There has been slow grassroots initiatives. Here and there are different organizations. But this time. There was a lot of And i think you know over among. Muslims voted in the election. That's phenomenal like that's beyond anyone's expectations. Of was there before the election started or the early voting started States like michigan. I think some delivered. They delivered michigan to the biden. Victory and i think minnesota what we snare issues exceptional sixty plus muslims. That got elected this election. And that says something. When you see that in the Legislator reflects what our community looks like need looked at this election Strategically see where we needed to Where we needed to help out in order to get border turn out and what community could actually build those coalitions. I feel like there is the sentiment and i saw this on social media in leading up to the election. There was this kind of sentiment that muslim organizations who Kind of you know. representing The muslim grassroots on the ground for the biden campaign Was being kind of you know there was kind of i. Don't use the word fighting but into dialogue lesage's to be kind About various organizations. And whether or not they have essentially the right to represent listen votes. You think that that kind of infighting is kind of unfair leading up to election where it's so important that muslims gathered together as a coalition and trump office. The muslim communities diverse in there has to be important questions that are asked in our organization. Do need to help be held accountable. so i i see nothing wrong in conversations about directions. Muslim organizations are going. You know as long as they're done in a manner that's productive in in a manner that's intended to move the community forward And i think you know how organizations respond to that is also telling of the direction they want to. And i think organizations and i've been with an organization before at at abc has been under the gun. That's been under community pressure to make changes. I've gone through it on the other side. And i understand that. They namic of running an organization. Dan dynamics of being annetta. That's a separate conversation of how organizations have to react and have to respond to community pressure and valid concerns. I think the question money raise was well is is this a time to talk about you. Know community Is at the time where we have an elections where we're trying to vote out a fascist and You know everybody has a different opinion. There is no right or wrong. Answer in both sides have concerns about the timing and so forth wasn't twenty sixteen on repeat. A lot of people did fall in line disappoint. Joe biden even May not have agreed that he was the best choice. Personally i do think he was a better choice. Donald trump a happily voted for him. I didn't have an issue. Voting for him are his policies. Perfect no by any means. They're not he's not the perfect candidate but i'm not looking for the perfect candidate. I'm not looking for somebody that i'm going to go out and stand in line for hours and it's going to get me. You know up to to see him. I'm i'm looking for president and it's normal. You know somebody that we can. When we do fight against our fight policies and push back on somebody that's gonna be receptive to listening to us so the democratic party joe biden's administration. We have to give them room to prove you know to to to prove themselves to the community. We have to give them room to answer to our concerns and our demands. And and see how reacts and i'm not saying biden is going to completely shut the door issues. He may well come out and be the bus president. We've seen for the community. We do have to give them that opportunity to do so. We have to give that room for him to to work in and navigate with us and see what comes about something that you said that like we just want a normal president and i think that that is really scary for me because i think a normal president in the united states is a warmonger will still enact other types of bands will still children are still being separated in the united states via the incarceration systems People are still being shot and killed by police. They're still surveillance they're still going to be a us empire and so these like he's very core. Fundamental forms of violence are not going to be raised at all. I think that is something that It's central to what i think i'm really pushing for. Is that a yes. We should have diversity of tactics absolutely. We can't just like protests everybody in the street and then like think. Everything's going to change if we don't have a strategy. If we are able to actually think about things strategically. I agree that a diversity of tactics is very important but i also think i think there's celebration i think there's a difference between a celebration of trump leaving office and biden entering office. I think it's like great. I love seeing trump depress. The white house or about the whole thing at the that was great. I love that. But there's truly nothing to celebrate about biden sneaking office and truly nothing to celebrate about going back to the status quo in the status quo is so deeply violent. The bar has been so much lowered based on how much violence that we've normalized. And i think that that's something that we can't allow. We allow ourselves normalized. Violence like biden saying that he's going to reverse the muslim ban. You shouldn't be sprayed it as a hero. That is like the basic thing that he should be doing and so i think that us getting excited. That biden is doing not even the bare minimum but just like reversing back to normal. Violent status quo is not a celebration. I think that unfortunately trump has really really destroyed our sense of normalcy but are also like before that even our sense of normalcy was like really endanger. And i think we don't do enough imagining about what we're actually trying to build toward And i think if we're actually able to sit down and be like all right. We're trying to elect muslims into positions of power for what what is our end goal like. We're going to rally around biden to get into power for what

His bald head I didn't think I'd love it this much. But not her in common together it's like two EMINEM's being. What I love that she's like in love she's talking about she's out forward about it. I think when you get to a certain age, you're not throwing every relationship up on instagram but we live in a world where people meet big on dates they get a coffee and they meet dogs three days later and all of a sudden we know their interrelationship these people are over forty. They're not playing this a love game like everyone else. Victim. Also say that we can. The outcry of hate towards Gayle King appears to be revolving around this promoted clip tip from the interview where they touch upon. Kobe's two thousand three sexual assault case. I won't play you a clip from the original interview. But I will play you a clip of Oprah defending her friend Gayle. WHO's just honestly? She's just doing her job. She's a journalist doing an interview. Come on okay. So here is the clip of Oprah Bre when she went on today with Hoda. End Jenna to talk about it. She is not doing well because she has now. Inside Iran's Underground Fashion Industry

"Global News headlines have been dominated by news out of Iran where a recent US air strike killed. Iran's most senior military leader General Qassem Awesome Sulejmani resulting in growing tensions in the Middle East back at voices. Two thousand nine. We shed some light on. Iran's underground fashioned seen team Iran is a country that we in the West know very little about but over the past few years. I've been receiving messages on instagram from young fashioned creatives. Who have written to me saying that that behind closed doors there is actually a vibrant fashion culture in Iran and they are longing to connect with all of us? It seemed like the perfect topic explore voices. Twenty nine to shed some light on Iran's underground fashion scene. We were honored to introduce four Iranian fashion creatives to share their experiences of their vibrant culture. Holzer with us and also to demystify some of our misconceptions about their country based in Chicago Hoda Khattab is the voice behind the political fashion platform. Juju Jewish and hotel opened our voices session with a powerful talk which explained how Iran's fashion economy has been impacted both by an extreme regime in Iran but also sanctions from the US UK and other Western countries. Hoda was joined by Sharon and chief of Car to self taught fashion designers and co-founders Iranian fashion label car. Who came all the way from Tehran to join us and the brilliant Iran born London based sued goal Sarky founder and editorial director of Tank magazine who interviewed Hoda Sharon and Sheva together? These four challenged our assumptions about aww country that is largely closed off from the West on this week's B. O. F. podcast go inside. Iran's fashion industry and I had this really cute flowery speech. I was excited to give but given what's happening in Iran right now. I think it's only fair to sort of take a setback and talk about the situation and kind of conceptualize that so right now. It's been almost a week in which the Iranian government has actually shut down the Internet and shooting Shiva and I couldn't even be in touch until they landed in the UK. I haven't been able to have been in touch with my family for the past near week. Either and this this sort of constant and current sort of uprising protests are really in part due to economic insecurities as sort of economic degradation of society see that has been caused by government corruption mismanagement of funds but also US and UK sanctions that have literally crippled society. Every single Iranian every single day is affected by sanctions by this country and by the United States. Things like medicine is unaffordable. Everyday curable. Diseases people are dying from because they don't have access to medical care or medicine because of the high prices food commodities everyday little things are so inaccessible accessible to every Iranian right now because of the situation so so important that yes what's happening in Iran is horrible but I think we also have to understand that the United states and the UK and many of our countries are also complicit. And what's happening right now. The reason and the difficulties that she didn't she will be talking about more both domestically but also from the sanctions that these countries are having creates a larger more complicated situation that we really need to be. unpacking and fashion is inherently political intertwined and all of this and yes obviously in Iran. There's a mandatory dress code and fashion. Maybe a little bit more political explicitly there but throughout the entire world. There is no such thing as apolitical fashion. It does not exist if anybody says fashion is apolitical. Please Punch them. This Muslim is condoning violence. I'm pleased on called prevent on me but it's true because fashion ultimately at its core is the motive communication. We're communicating something able to convey really powerful messages. Tell people about a culture about society or we're not an recyling. It and silence is complacency at a time where we truly cannot afford to. The world is fucking on. I can say fucking the world is fucking on fire right now. Aw How can we ever think that what we're creating and putting out in the world should not be engaging with us and all of us were closed and are in the business of fashion. I don't even immune that fund and yet are we actually truly grappling with the complexities of how fashion is truly political on so many levels beyond just just a slogan which could mean or not mean something based on where you're producing it Fashion is even more inherently political. If we think about production and consumption what does that mean. The majority of our clothes are produced in Southeast Asia by people who look like me and you had the majority of consumed here. In the West our whole industry relies upon and continues continues to profit from histories of imperialism genocide sanctions that have plagued the entire world and yet we still profit from it. We're living in an active empire. The British Empire still exists people are still profiting off of the fact that there is no economic growth. happening in countries countries like Indonesia because we profit from it and we value this and our entire industry is built upon it. So what does that mean and also the fact that fashion literally frames our bodies like literally every time we step outside. We're deciding how we want our body to be actually presented in the world there's nothing else that's more intimately connected to our identities or the manifestation of that in public space than fashion literally. Wraps it touches our skin. So what does it mean mean for something that's made in a product of violence to be rubbing off on our skin every single day were so so concerned about what we eat where it goes in our bodies but how about what touches our skin constantly every single day most nights some nights but also but it conveys a Maybe religion the fact that I'm visibly Muslim. My experiences growing up in the United States as someone visibly Muslim has been marked with physical assault being uncalled terrorists every single day. This is a reality that every day I step out of my house and choose to present myself in a way that I know that I'm GonNa be added to another government surveillance. Watch list her. And if you don't have to think about every day when you step outside of your house who is going to profile you or what police is going to stop and search you. That's privilege which doesn't make that decision any less political so we have to think about that and right now especially the fact that the Muslim identity is trending trending in the fashion industry. My identity is sexy. Every single person wants a Muslim. Who looks like me? Walking down the runway and their latest campaign. But how can we have the fact that right. Now we're at a time of heightened anti Muslim racism on a global level partnered with the time that we see Muslim faces taking up space across fashion magazines. What does that immune for our industry? Is that a trend. Or are we actually substantially dealing with and grappling with the manifestations of what it means to support Muslims. Would it means the support people people of Color. How can Nike? For example create. A pro hit job that was created with the raw materials by Muslim wiegert Muslims and concentration camps in western China passed down to Muslims in Indonesia working in sweatshops to produce Nike Apparel and then sold here and then be a product and praise as for being so pro Muslim. Why are we allowing brands and the whole entire fashion industry to simplify and reduce our identities into just a hit job? Hit Job is not synonymous as being Muslim but we allow fashion right now to reduce simplify and completely annihilate the movements Minson identities in which we've been working on for decades actually call this revolution washing greenwashing which I think most of us are familiar with. But it's at the revolution every brand. Dan Wants to be sexy. And part of the Revolution Right now. But what are you actually doing. Are you actually simplifying. And reducing and taking away the significance of what it means to be Muslim. The complex experiences of what it feels like to wear every single day and that the government simultaneously is gonNA use that against me or use that to invade on a son and and so. I'm really excited. Really excited to also be able to be the sheet and Sheva on this panel to understand that the world is fucking complicated like there's a lot She does happening every day everywhere but rather than just being afraid of taking a step back and be like okay. We're GONNA make the simple like I don't want to be controversial. We have to engage with at that. Fashion should not be in the business of simplifying things but embracing the complexity and really being able to grapple and imagine a better world and then actively work work toward building that

It's like, oh, well, you know, I was with John over the weekend. And it's like, I don't know your life. And I don't know John as well. It's funny because it took us forty years to learn about Cody. So like, I feel like like now, I know so much about Cody, which is Kathy Lee's, son. So like me to give me at least forty five years to learn about like, whoever your kids are slash. I definitely don't watch it anymore with her Mula. No, no, she's she's awful because I still love Hoda where she saw Hoda was adopting another kid, and she was like, no, I need to do it. It's just peer pressure. So the thing about Jennifer shaker being pregnant is that there's something else to say about it. Okay. Cool. I just wanted to start with all news a little news item.
