"John catch them fees here sunday morning. Well how is the economy going. How are we moving product around the world with us today. Fred hochberg a very successful businessperson. Who from two thousand eight. The two thousand seventeen service chairman and president of the export import bank. How you fred. I haven't seen you in a while. Well i think that's the problem. Is john no one gets to see anybody anymore. The old fashioned way is good but it's no no replacement for being in the same room with somebody and sharing a cup of coffee or glass of wine. I agree with you. So much We've had a change of administrations for the trump administration to the binding administration And you're an expert in training in in the world and begin your evaluation. How how things transitioning. Well i think we're in. We're you know we've seen particularly recently with the crisis in suez with the container ship. That gut sucked there for a number of days. It reminds everybody. Hell were so reliant on each other and one thing that's happened. During covert of course. Is that people that we've all got out as you've just discussed job to less movies less theater less concert. Let's sporting events so people consuming more goods at home and that means trade in goods. Everything from computers electronics has been skyrocketing and so we see how dependent we are on the rest of the world. That said i think that President biden of the team Secretary of commerce jeeter ramada. A keenly focused on making sure that also american workers and the american people not just american companies benefit in the in the economy that we're now in and i think there's a real focus on that to make sure the benefits are spread airlie understood this infrastructure plan is going to be key to that and to our prosperity now infrastructure. Plan i understand. I talked to governor rendell recently. He says that that infrastructure plans over the next eight years You think the mu- money to complete all the projects that we desire well oil's a big word But this is a giant downpayment. No and You mentioned since i. I ran the export import bank for president obama when i look at our infrastructure to support. Us companies support us. Job support us exporters. We are solely and sorely deficient the ports. Our airports the roads the bridges. We all know all of that is way behind the rest of the world. We rank. I think number thirteen and infrastructure in the world. This is the united states. It is shocking. how we have led the slide. We have been. We've been sort of harvesting the work of future generations. We any new planting and have and have been putting more down payments down so we are well overdue and it will actually make the economy better. You know that as a businessman as well if we have a better infrastructure which includes broadband and everything else. The economy will actually operate far better. Has anybody spoken about maybe high speed. Rail's well. I mean this plan from what i understand has about an eighty billion dollar investment in amtrak It may be fast trains which are over hundred miles. An hour versus high-speed which is frequently two or three hundred miles an hour. I mean the cost differential is large but a greater reliance on short distances. For rail of is that we also have ignored which the rest of the world has been making enormous investments in both from climate point of view and just congestion a moving people quickly around the country. What else would you like to tell the. American people who are non on sunday morning. Well i think that You know we talked a little bit about trade and we focused as i said on what happened in suez. It does show that you know. We are reliant. On other countries we are reliant on other countries for goods and services and they in turn rely on us. So i think one thing we've seen with president biden and the team of people. He's brought in his understanding. We are all interconnected whether it has to do with what we started talking about with tons of the virus with it has to do with trade of goods and services with has to climate. And we're going to have to find ways to work together with other countries worked together with other people And so i think that's a that's a different change from the presidency that just ended which was more about going it alone versus finding ways. We can have common ground in finding some common solutions. They're not going to be perfect. They're all going to be difficult. But it's an approach that is going to be better in the long run as the largest economy in the world we benefit when the world benefits china. Yellen made a comment the other day that He would like to see a corporate tax rate similar to a group of countries. Is that workable. It is very much needed. It is very. It will be difficult to achieve. It probably won't happen overnight but you know you mentioned on. I worked in the administration. We had an agreement of globally that would export credit agencies like the eximbank provided financing to us companies so. They could export abroad about thirty five other countries industrialized countries. However not china agreed that we would follow the same kind of rules and not try to undercut each other so we do have experienced globally on finding some common ground with other countries. So we don't do a race to the bottom which benefits nobody so. That's example of where it has worked obvious. It's going to be harder with taxation but not impossible. People like christine lagarde when she was the imf international monetary fund very much. Was pushing this idea that we have to find a global agreement on taxes so we don't have companies chasing around the world for the lowest tax rates. You know the company you ran run a red apple and the oil company and mild coming lillian vernon where here in the us. We have to pay taxes and we have to rely on the us infrastructure. Many don't have the opportunity of the luxury to offshore certain operations in the interest lowering taxes. So we need to close those loopholes up fred. Hochberg for queen this Sunday morning in in giving all the american people better understanding of the situation. And we hope you go back to washington soon and help fix things. Thank you for having me as useful. John always loved to be on the south accurate. This is the cats roundtable. Be right back..

"The morning Don. Good morning, Joe. Good morning, Luke. Oh, cats. Good morning. Good morning, indeed. OK morning, Lindsay. Morning, Lindsay. I'm looking right at you. And I'm like, why do I get you know? Because we're up around an hour before and we talked all this time. So my apologies. So, uh, don dandy Don. You were not part of this David Hochberg extravaganza with John Williams as it pertains to the Salvation Army. Correct, Correct ice. I hide under a desk when David Hochberg enters the news. Okay, so I'm sure many of marketing this That, um, the John Williams show had a little radio fun last Wednesday. David Hochberg was part of it as well. They raise something like over $160,000 for the Salvation Army almost got the 1 70. Is that right? That's crazy. It is just crazy. And so this is what I'm trying, understand so somehow You. Jo brand got looped into Lindsay. Have you seen a picture of Jo brand lately? She's looking. She's looking for a microphone. Did you? Have you seen a picture of him yet? No, No, Okay. So you know, Joe had the long hair and the beard. He kind of looked like a trucker and and somehow you got looped into If there's a certain amount of money, you're going to shave your head like you were in grade school, and then it was just a haircut and in the end You ended up getting just a haircut like a normal person, right? Yeah, well, David Hochberg changed the rules. Quite a bit surprising thing. So in the end All this save Joe's hair, whatever. Well, everybody responded right because they loved your brand and we rate you know, we'd listen to me. They raised all this money for the Salvation Army, which is lovely. And somehow David Hochberg got his hair dyed red and white. Again. The rules changed like crazy. The last couple of days. Yeah, it was originally 50,000 for a normal haircut 75,000 for a buzz cut, Which that that was the only thing I was worried about. And then 100,000 to keep my hair We hit 100 wife, Ellie was can't imagine She was happy with this Thies prospects at all. No, she wasn't She She liked the long hair and when she heard it was all for charity, she's like great, so I can't Outwardly be against it. That's that's great puts me in a wonderful spot, right? Well, congratulations on what an amazing thing for our listeners to step up and help out the Salvation Army is really impressive and And hats off to John and David and all the people behind the scenes that made it work and course all the people Salvation Army doing all that work to help people so good for you and I saw the picture. You got a nice, handsome haircut. You look good. Well, thank you. I hardly feel like I did anything. I just got a haircut. If I you know, helped inspire a few people to donate. That's that's fantastic, but I don't take any credit for it at all. Chicago's got a big heart. Yeah, Exactly. Chicago's got a big heart. That's what I learned. And John Williams can really run a fundraiser. And David Hochberg has a lot of ideas. And this one actually worked. So congrats and thanks to all That's really nice, and we've got Northwestern and Ohio State pregame at 10 o'clock after today's show this morning, and this is not going to be an easy challenge because Ohio State seems to be in a whole nother level. Yet that's typically the case. Northwestern has really shown they've got a strong defense this year. I mean, they've had a very impressive season that one blemish against Michigan State really hurts, but No, you You match him up in one game. Who knows? Who knows what can happen? And you know we're still waiting on Ohio State's roster with with who's available and who's not what with covert and everything because there have been a few outbreaks in the Buckeyes program, so maybe that will play a factor. Obviously, you're not hoping for anything like that, but maybe it will play a factor. But But yeah, Go cats. Go, Dave, innit? Go Pat Fitzgerald. Go cats. Yeah, it'll be fun. It'll be fun to listen to. Ah, little bit late around this morning. So stay tuned for that. But right now I wanna hear from you folks. 87721348772134568 is our phone number. Our first call this morning is sponsored by bath fitter dot com. Forward slash Lou. Let's go to the phone lines right now and talk with a chuck, who is in Rockford, Chuck. Good morning. Good morning. How may I help you, sir? I have a, um Have an old house was built in 1929 about 80% of it. 90% of it is heated with a steam boiler, which works great. Two rooms are heated with the hot water boiler, A wild McClane boiler. That thing is terrible. It Have two or three service calls a year on and it's only seven years old. I heard you talk. Not so good about this brand. With this type of boiler in the past. Wait one second. Is it awhile? McClane High efficiency boiler. Yeah. Like while McLean as a manufacturer, Um, but I'm but I am not a fan. It has been my experience that high efficiency boilers. Just problematic. They still are and I don't understand why I talk with different H G C companies about this, but you know go. No. You know if you maintain them, they're fine. But I've had experience on a couple of different projects where It's constant maintenance calls and you know to me. You know, this is a thing whenever you're talking about, like, what's the best? You know? How do I save the most money? This and that this and that? So with hot water heat, the beauty of hot water heat in general, is that you know, depending on the radiators that you have. Do you have radiators or baseboard? He What do you have? Chuck? One, he heats two rooms. One is in the floor, radiant heat, and one is baseboard. Um Radiant and is it is it cast iron Base border metal Finn, too. Testing. Yeah, so I mean, you've got this great light system there, right? The radiant floor heat is amazing. You've got cast on the baseboard. Once that heats up, you know the boiler shuts off and you're still getting this heat. And so to me. My advice. Always tell anybody that has a boiler Do not invest in The high efficiency boiler investing 80%, you know, conventionally vented boiler and then use that extra money that you were going to spend. You know if it's another 1000 bucks, I'm just making up the number. And replace that drafty window that you have, or you know what I mean? Like other other things there. Um, What's your plan, Chuck With this house? How long you gonna be in that house? Long time. Cut bait and run and replaced that boiler with conventionally vented boiler If your budget allows, though, That's what it's called The conventional conventionally vented in 80% efficient boiler, right? So how you're you're home. Did it Did it have Was it. In other words, did you have Ah, boiler at one point that vented into the chimney?.

"Thank you, David Hochberg and company So guys diss our cream have an expiration date. And if it does, does it then become good cream? I took a young lady out for dinner last night. She had frog legs and chicken breasts. No but a wonderful personality or girl. Some jokes. You just don't have to finish. I saw a guy giving away dead batteries free of charge. I was going to eat all of the clams at the seafood buffet. But then I thought, Well, that would be shellfish. I saw chameleon so I'm guessing he wasn't very good. My wife and family are leaving me because of my obsession with horse racing at the gate now on their truck carrying worse. Disher sauce crashes, the dispatcher says. What's the situation there? Cup? Says it's hard to say. Not to brag or anything, but I don't need alcohol to make really bad decisions. And finally, this is a guy at the bar says. I've got a half sister and the bartender says different dads, and the guy says no Shark attack show has.

"Team Hochberg somebody texted in a minute ago and said John Wisconsin is not getting thirteen hundred and sixty dollars we're getting twelve hundred dollars I just got my stimulus check yesterday we're gonna talk to Derren lahood about the second round in just a minute but yeah I understand that and I hope I didn't miss lead you all I was saying was that Forbes magazine is out with the sort of think piece and they said look if you get twelve hundred dollars in Mississippi you have a lot more spending power than somebody else in any other state because the cost of living is lowest in Mississippi if we're going to be fair Hawaiians would get seventeen hundred dollars Illinoisans would get fourteen hundred dollars Wisconsinites you'd get thirteen sixty Mississippians twelve hundred I wish they'd figured that by going below twelve hundred though well they did that too and they said okay if we do that then the people if if you and I got twelve hundred Mississippians get eight hundred sixty eight dollars okay which I don't know pick your poison I don't think any of that is it's sold it's it's so true it's also so divisive it is it will only I think widen the chasm between the two sides and they're waking up with a headache in Wisconsin anyway today yeah what's that so you have the sound of a lady at a bar yes so the Wisconsin tavern association you talked about them right and I think that the court order said that the the the ban was supposed to expire in six days but the tavern association said no let's go for it so they open up the bars last night and I played in a piece of cut from a woman I won't name again but it's she needed to go there to see your friends and release stress but I think that it's amazing to me what what where she works and what she has at home listen to her I have a toddler at home and I'm a full time.

"Good Morning America. This is the cats roundtable trunk catching PD here Sunday morning. What's going on in America? Well a lot of things going on. What is this morning? He's a good friend? Fred Hochberg His mob started to Lillian Vernon Company. He went on to be Acting Administrative Small Business Administration being of the Milano School of Management and topped off chairman of President of the expert input back to the United States. Good Morning Fred Hackworth. How are you today all trying to stay healthy and pizzas viruses? Copiously can well. What a mess. We got How do you view things right now? It seems like and I'm sure we don't have all the facts in yet that We caught a virus from China. Well it seems a way though Dipping diseases one in the world. Where all of us have more and more people. We had Expanding Face with people live the issue on climate and health and my hunch is going to be facing a lot more of these issues as we had SARS and mirrors and the bird flu and Bola and they're gonna be a number of things that are gonna be different parts of the world and they're going to have to work together to the PP's because otherwise able to feed out. How are we getting into a mess where it's US against them You know you happy. Asian countries You have a European countries. Now you have a new alliance. It looks like a possible alliance with Russia and Saudi Arabia on the oil. How do you? She thinks yes. Think that we have gone from you know. The world is always had given divisions language culture. But we've also found ways to work together you know. The European Union came together after World War. Two because the NSA should that more and more to the sense of finding to solve things together. The United Nations would it be with the on trade or NATO The World Bank as a number of these things and they're right healthy too few or or a little of breaking down. We're going to have to just take a look at how they work In in the current environment some rewards designed the likes of of a final or Some of the economies and I think that they're going to need some work but frankly we've got one planet and we're going to have to find a way to live on the Senate together and when it has to do I hope they'll twice or three is going to have to figure this out. One thing that Americans were shocked about Owes at eighty five percent of a lot of drugs are made between India and China. Do you think we should set a limit to how much we should do on the outside versus inside critical items for I will probably see John and I think he would. Whether that's a medical or auto parts and then I think companies will look at their supply chain and say so much going from one country. How much is coming from one supplier? Because we're going to deal with from time to time GonNa have a crisis either. Natural disaster with is up logged or we Holland'll synonymous or whether we're going to have all the break. Yeah I think I'm sure you have to pick an advance but I think the idea is we're going to have to most of those supply chains being on critical islands like health and medical. There's an say truly lies a one comfy country a one part of the boy I think this crisis of the things. I think this crisis is to us a lot of lessons. Fred. You have a new book. Trade is not a fool that a word tell us about it and what it's about so all the book John Because in my car working to President Obama and as chairman of the exponential today I just found the mood around trade. I've gotten more and more foul were more negative more people Finding full and blaming traits all of them so I wanted to take a look at that. And you know let's leave. The country made a number of mistakes. Not really take care of people hurt by trade in the way they would. You support them seeing that today in our current crisis where more and more people you know. North of twenty million people are now dependent on unemployment insurance. Need a social safety. Net and social safety is not a liberal idea. We need to make sure people face hardship. They have self support system so that they don't have to face it for about this so when it comes to trade very dependent on frankly off food. Supply and foods are on these vegetables boots. Latin America Mexico be from Australia Australia New Zealand. You mentioned medical supplies clearly from India and China so the book was designed. Trade is a four letter word. So it's sort of give a better understanding of looked involved with free. Has it improve life and also be due to make sure that people benefits helmet and those are get hurt or supported and frankly I think some of those trends are going to excel arrate with the closest we have in hand and you know we train his one thing. That's impacted jobs for frankly. Automation artificial intelligence are those things have come becoming and I think as a result of this crisis in some ways even faster who is current chairman President of the Book Textbook? Bent is a stem alpes. Well a woman in Kimberley Reid appointed by president trump. She's in self thunder year. Next month will be a year on the job. It's also fun. The first woman was a Chil- the expert in for bank. And they're going to be important. Because if we're going to support jobs and the exponential bang back to Franklin Roosevelt exports support jobs. The problem will be many countries have a heart attack and answering those exports. And you'RE GONNA need for bank to really step in and make sure that we have good products. Customers financing them is not the reason we lose themselves because they'll sales are going to be really important to make some more get back to actually ask you if any advice yet I met with her early in her. Tenure we had lunch and lose boxing. Not really supposed to the last several months. But I'm I'm happy to see that the bank is operating again. I'm happy to have the seven year. authorization can operate for seven years without having to go to college with the Authority but many of these. If it's all the good tracking needed as small both of those things and more and more than Fred. Hochberg you're basically were in New Yorker is any good advice here you know. We're down here in Ground Zero. And he could advice you give me up his four. I think after the job in designing awful And transparent you of where we all miss copies and take care of themselves and not giving people false. Hope for being optimistic and very honest. Now you're booklets mentioned it one more time and sure it's available at bonds and noble and Amazon. Trade is not a fool letter word by Fred Hopper. Thank you walk out. You read the book and enjoy the both ends a hope. You're listening today if they extra time on the has enjoyed as well thank you so much. Thank you for coming on on the show this morning and we'll catch up again real soon. All Things Accu..

Here’s what you need to know about paying your rent or mortgage

"So we talked a lot about the P. P. P. over the last couple of days the payroll protection program trump suggesting yesterday that he once said two hundred fifty two or fifty billion dollars to that the loan forgiveness program for small businesses what about individuals who are wondering about how they're going to pay their mortgage as they're waiting for the disaster relief checks or for unemployment insurance benefits to kick in for a discussion about the mortgage business we're pleased to be joined by our friend David hopper vice president lending of team Hochberg and home side financial David thanks for joining us appreciate it thank you ram appreciate the opportunity so thinking about people in financial distress or certainly concerned about being in financial distress in the not too distant future depending on how things transpire what are some of the questions you're getting in the recommendations you're making to people yeah well again thanks a lot for the opportunity your listeners are gonna fall into fort Meade a mostly four categories one there you're gonna have a party mac clone they're either going to have Fannie Mae Freddie Mac and will throw three categories trying to be pretty back FHA or VA okay Fannie Mae Freddie Mac allow your listeners and the easiest way to find out guys is to just call the eight hundred number on your mortgage statement and call them up and ask them if you have a female Freddie Mac FHA loan if you have a VA loan you you most likely would not be a long serving in our military or our a surviving spouse what what cleaning may forty mac have have issued rules that their servicers can allow up to twelve months of forbearance here's the biggest challenge though a forbearance is when a borrower can differ mortgage payments without any late fees or down any hits on the credit the challenges it's up to the servicer the person that has your mortgage that you're writing your mortgage thank you to make that determination what they've said is spinning the forty mac and come out and said is if you call them and state that you're having economic hardship economic challenges due to corporate nineteen coronavirus they will put you into a forbearance without any issues here's a challenge with Randy for Fannie Freddie rules state that if they put you to a three month of forbearance for example if you call today you could defer your April may and June payment but come July what your listeners to allow listeners don't realize come July first when the to my mortgage payment is due they want the ninety days of deferred payments as well so that's a major challenge and I called up my servicer who is chasing set what happens if listeners borrowers can't make that hundred twenty days worth of payments obviously they're going to permit into forbearance because we've got challenges he's like well they have to call back again they're not gonna make it easy for you you have to call back and either ask for another forbearance for loan modification at that time but see anybody Freddie Mac rules clearly state in a recent letter that they sent out to all other other servicers that farmers can get up to twelve months worth of errands now on the FHA rules FAQ role is completely different and this is important for your listeners to understand if you have an FHA rule FHA wrote FHA will allow six to twelve months worth of forbearance so they'll give you six blocks at a time but again you have to call your servicer who is the company that you write your checks to and request forbearance now the difference between winning may Freddie Mac and FHA the FHA has stated after the twelve months worth of forbearance they will allow you to allow farmers to add a second loan with zero percent interest on the backs all the missed payment you made for the six or twelve months there will be a subordinate loan added at zero percent interest that no penalty to the borrower that will be paid off when you either refinance or sell your home the T. and there hasn't been any rules released yet for VA loans Ross I would I I would you'd you know share that with you listen it's a constantly moving thing right now and we're trying to stay ahead of it the best we can why are they offering forbearance for six to twelve months is that an indication about how long they think this may last sort of a hedge what will it be pretty macros of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac is already have forty wrote written rules for their servicers to offer up to twelve months which means you know what they know okay that is it's going to be this is war I'm not trying to freak your listeners out but I I survived nine eleven I survived oh wait and I'm telling you right now eight we had what may be seven to eight hundred thousand people unemployed which was a huge hit to the economy you're you're talking twelve fifteen twenty times that number so what Fannie Mae Freddie Mac FHA are doing is trying to get ahead of it so you don't have bar were standing around the corner at the gymnasium is trying to do loan modifications like they did in a weight which is a complete

"Good Morning America. This is the catch. Roundtable John Katzman. TV's here Sunday morning. Well what is the other side tariffs are going up. Tara going down looks like president. Trump uses it as a weapon against certain countries and the good uses Mexico surrender. China's surrendered Iran. We're still waiting for them with this morning is a good friend. A longtime friend Fred Hochberg and he ran. Read the family business for a while. LemMe Lemme in Vernon Corporation. And then he went into a running the small business administration and he was dean of the Milano School of Management and he was a champion of president. CEO of Export Import Bank of the United States. Good Morning Fred Hochberg. Okay how you bid on the show John. Thanks for the well. I don't know of anybody more experiencing you because you ran that input export export bank. Then they answer. The question is trump during the writing. Trump turned the wrong thing and it seems like we're winning. But what say are you. Well you know just written a book so I spent about a year and a half thinking about this and meeting with people and you know. Trump isn't wrong about everything about about training. And in fact I'm a sexual my book titled Everything. Donald Trump says about drake is wrong. That's incorrect. He has got a number of things. He's cold out signed China on in particular Right trying to knock in a good actor. China hasn't dealt fairly with the rest of the world. China has taken in advance of intellectual property kind of the secret sauce that trade secrets they companies have and Donald Trump is right to call them out on that so I would agree on that. There's a good bit of debate whether this is the best way to do it. We're going to get what we want in the end from that point of view. Yes you know. The that trading relationship needed to be needs to be corrected. Tell us about the new book so I as you mentioned John. I served for eight years with President. How the U.S. and China Settled on a Trade Deal Neither Wanted

"This week the US and China are set to sign the first phase of a trade agreement farmers and manufacturers hope this could be a sign that the trade war between the two countries is ending at a time when politicians are skeptical of global trade agreements are co host ari Shapiro talked with an author who is an unapologetic advocate for trade you could say that Fred Hochberg was born to be a voice for global trade his mother's name was Lillian Vernon the same Lillian Vernon who created a multi million dollar mail order catalogue company selling everything from clothing to toys that company grew from his mother's kitchen table to a household name partly by buying products that were made in China Nixon open China in nineteen seventy two lily was hot on his trail went to China in nineteen eighty one we started buying in trying to parlay Taiwan became too expensive so companies started moving from Taiwan into China and to the manufacturing there during the Obama administration Fred Hochberg ran the export import bank making him one of the country's top cheerleaders for global trade deals now the political tides have shifted president trump pulled the US out of the trans Pacific partnership started a trade war with China and scraps nafta so you can understand why Fred Hochberg called his new book trade is not a four letter word part of the reason I wrote this book was because I was kind of surprised and thunderstruck over the last eight years how we got so negative on trade the problem is we as a country were not candid when not honest with the shortfalls about trade the fact is there are losers and we did not really sufficiently as a country really address the people who got badly hurt we have many things in our economy that says yes it's a where a market economy but at the same time we have to have things that take action when the market's not perfect we didn't put enough time and attention into making that work the way you structure this book you tell the story of global trade through a handful of everyday products and I'd like to zoom in on one of them the avocado well I think you know the avocado follows the path of the banana which is also in this book and that is being this exotic delicacy that became more mainstream so bananas a once in a delicacy and then became the staple and frankly the most consumed fruit and the American family of any fruits vegetables that we consume a lot of as to a global trade and has to do with the importation from central and South America and avocados are similar in that regard in two thousand we consumed a billion avocados we double that within five years and then double that again and another ten years so we now consumer of four and a quarter billion avocados a year so I think that they did catch fire and part of it catches fire importing nafta and the importation of the fact that was free trade going back and forth and I use the example of the taco salad you can now or joy at soccer ball in all fifty states in twelve months of the year that would not be possible if US only relying on our own local products local agriculture and local ingredients and more broadly than avocados or even just the taco salad you talk about the way diversity in supermarkets has just exploded because of global imports yes I mean the choices we have in this illustration in the book about when Boris Yeltsin visited a supermarket in Houston and was just flabbergasted at the array of products that we have that degree of opportunity plenty selection and variety was something that we now take for granted in America that was largely because of global trade largely because we get agriculture products year round cheeses from around the world meet some around the world and they can go to every corner United States there's a stunning figure here where you write that in nineteen seventy five before the first free trade agreements were written the average U. S. supermarket carried just under nine thousand products by two thousand eight that number had mushroomed to nearly forty seven thousand that's because of global trade global trade and as a result changing eating habits I one of things I put in the book I would never have guessed growing up as a little kid we all the you know the going to seafood restaurant was like the worst thing in the world and the fact that Americans have so embraced sushi and virtually every supermarket you go to you can buy fresh sushi every day is remarkable you obviously think more trade is a good thing so I was surprised at the end of the book to see that you think the US should take a pause on entering into any new trade deals why this is been such a divisive issue that I think it's it's not healthy for a democracy to have such highly divisive issues that are often decided by one vote now since they wrote the book U. S. M. CNA the United States Mexican Canadian agreement that passed the house of representatives with three hundred eighty five votes to forty one is the largest single majority we have ever seen on a trade agreement ever so maybe we are now moving towards that recent surveys have shown a majority of Democrats and Republicans believe in free trade majority Democrats public thinks it's actually better for our economy Fred Hochberg is former chairman of the export import bank of

The Exim Bank Could Gain Strength This Week

"American trade policy. There is news of the US export economy. The Export Import Bank which helps finance the sale of made in America products. Overseas hasn't been at full strength since two thousand fourteen but as marketplace's Tracey Samuelson reports that might change this week for. Two years. The EximBank has been the subject of debate. Is it a valuable tool to help us companies sell abroad, or does it mainly benefit big multinationals that don't really need it support? The White House is in the valuable tool camp says Gary Heff Bauer with the Peterson institute. Who is quite focused on increasing US exports and historically the EximBank has fostered. US exports. Bet since the Bank can't prove financing over ten million dollars. It's just doing a lot less than it used to. Bankers operating a level. It hasn't seen maybe forty or fifty years. Fred Hochberg is a former president and chairman of Export Import Bank in two thousand sixteen and twenty seventeen he was its sole board member he says during the Obama years the Bank financed roughly fifteen to twenty billion a year last year about three and a half billion dollars in Financing's. The Bank may soon be back to full muster. Thanks in part to recently changed rules in how the Senate confirms presidential nominees, but the banks near-disappearance has given its critics new ammunition. Very Nikkei J at George Mason's Mercatus center says despite its reduced capacity. We've found is basically the impact on export was absolutely. They was non as we expected an issue that sir to come up when the banks chartered needs to be renewed. Again, this fall.
