"Exactly. We have new agent. Hey, Gino Smith, remember when he fell out around one? Yeah. And he didn't come back at first on day two, and then he gets picked. He changed agents, not long after that. Somebody failed to prepare him for what was going to happen. Or he wouldn't have gone. Why go? I know. Why put yourself through that if you think there's a chance you're going to slot all the way out around one. Does he go today? I think he goes today. I don't think it's going to continue. I think. No, does he show up today? Good question. Good question. I wouldn't. I know, I wouldn't have gone. Unless I'm damn sure I'm one of the top 5 guys I wouldn't have even gone. So I think that's going to be a real tough one to get him to go back. But I think you'll be there. Hasn't the commissioner said before, didn't they say, hey, stop putting a camera on some of these guys who start falling? It's good TV, but you know, at some point, you're like, come on, you know what? Cut the kid a break. Dan, it's on my list of things to track down. I feel like at some point over the past 15 years, I wrote a story about that. Now I just have to go find it. It moves pretty quickly in these parts, but I'm pretty sure my addled brain vaguely recalls something like that where they wanted to make it less taxing on the player more humane, more positive, less negative. They don't want that dramatic moment where we're all enjoying in a weird sort of way, this stress and strange. So we saw a few shots last night and it was clear that we'll love us was not prepared for what ultimately happened. Where does hinden hooker go? Well, I mean, he's a prompt candidate for the Titans because you don't need him this year.

And I said, well, good thing. The good thing you did listen to him. So I do think there's, I think there's something to that. I think there's leverage. Well, but the neo here, here's the thing about, oh, how old is Josh? How old is Jordan love at this point? Probably about 25. I mean, we already talk about Anthony Richardson probably got to sit. I mean, I mean, in 25, like, okay, quarterback's playing until a 35 anyway. You know what I mean? It's just like, I don't need a goddess 21 or 22, thinking that because I don't think he's, I don't think he is beyond development age. I don't think hinden hooker can't get better. I don't think he's reached his peak. But how good is he what he's not the oldest player on the field? That's my question. Like being that physical and mental maturity matters. Now he put up the incredible numbers. He might have won the Heisman if he had not gotten hurt. The question I've heard is, and again, it's not his fault. He ran the office. That was in front of him, but how much can you tell about all the other stuff the defense reading stuff and everything else coming out of hypos offense? No, and that's fair. That is very fair. From what I understand in meetings and in conversations and on the proverbial chalkboard or whiteboard or whatever it is they use nowadays, he's aced it. He's got it. He's super, super smart. I think that maturity yet, is there something to be said for having an edge on your competition, sure, but in the league, I think that helps in terms of being able to step in earlier than later and playing. I like the kid, man. I think his first of all, okay, here we go, more progress. Sneaky athletic? I mean, duke can move.

That's quite an endorsement for Austin, Texas, right? Yeah, I don't think I don't think the chamber is too happy with that one. And by the way, Andrew sounds like a nervous better there. And I know he's a little John. Andrew will be busted by the end of the weekend. It was good to discuss Andrew sparks are added in sparks and John Wilhelm, but real quick. That was a beautiful tribute to Rick Pitino. From a guy from Louisville, I can appreciate it. I felt like I missed a couple of things like the woman at the Olive Garden. A couple of that, but it was porcinis, but you're close enough. I was just trying to make it more relatable to the average person that could summarize it when you look up the word fleas and dictionary. You'll see Rick's picture next to it. He wasn't disciplined enough to get to his car, which is lady for and he had to do it right there on the table. Sounds like a beatle song, doesn't it? Yeah. Hey, Paul. Quick comment on John Wilhelm. I can't believe he compared the big 12 to the PAC 12 as far as the media deal. I think that you're way off kilter. He was into that medical marijuana out there. So I listened to your podcast every day because I deliver groceries all day. Oh, wonderful. In the car all day and I just wanted to give a shout out to my favorite caller who I feel like doesn't get enough love. And who might that be? It's John from Louisville. I feel like he's not all over the place. Unlike many of the callers and he actually comes to talk sports and a good conversation always, so he can be pretty entertained. John is just somewhat of the conscience of the show. So do you work for the grocery or for one of these companies that delivers groceries? I work for Instacart. So I can't, I don't know how to get your show live, but I listen to the podcast every day and all I do is listen to podcasts. There is a there is a different way to get it live. Hello, good afternoon. Hi, Paul. How are you? We are well. Thank you. So I was just wondering kind of what you thought, I grew up in a family where all Oklahoma state fans. So us losing Texas and Oklahoma. There's no issues there, but you know, like the bedlam rivalry was very important to us and I'm sure it's very important to the big 12. So how do you think Oklahoma and Texas leaving kind of affect the big 12s of money? Well, I think it affects your dramatically. Because when you start the big 12 season, you look at the board and what are the biggest games of the year? Oklahoma, Texas. Oklahoma, Oklahoma state. And depending on the year, I mean, even with TCU playing for the national championship in Baylor having good years, it doesn't really change the drama and there are you're losing a great deal and you're losing your two bell cows. Hey, thank you for the call. We appreciate it. We have a long way to go, but the next guest is somebody we've been eager to talk to for some time. "Return? Yeah, the correct TV vernacular would be this is not, I'm from Louisiana. I'm a country. This ain't got nothing to do with Lamar Jackson, okay? This is about Todd Martin and what Adam alluded to about trying to progress his offense. Boogie, we've been talking about it on NFL live for a long time. About trying to evolve this offense and find some semblance of a passing game because everybody felt like it was holding them back even with Lamar Jackson at quarterback. The type of system that they ran. So Odell Beckham junior would do a lot for that entire monkey and his idea of what he wants to do. We saw him with stats and then Georgia. We sold the way that they were able to create a vertical passing game. Stetson was a guy that nobody thought could do what he did in the championship run two years back to back in big game. So it makes sense. But this is about the Baltimore Ravens, offensively, philosophically and having a new offensive coordinator. This ain't got nothing to do with Lamar Jackson. Well, the good thing for Todd monkey is and now moving to Lamar Jackson if he's still there, his quarterback will be the exact same age as stetson Ben was in college. So that part is good. I think when you look at what they want to do in the wide receiver room is this, Todd monken got in that building and said much to that organization, like Nick Saban told us when he came to LSU in 1999. Y'all don't look like a football team. Y'all don't look like y'all can get it done. And that's exactly what he felt about that wide receiver room. The proof is in the pudding. They have no outstanding outside targets. You have no one that could be a go to guy in the moments in the game where you need clutch catches. Who's going to come up big on third down other than Mark Andrews, Rashad Bateman has battled injuries and so for the Baltimore Ravens, it's about just improving the productivity in that room. It's not about enticing Lamar Jackson. Todd, let's say that they do end up going with hinden hooker because they feel like they're going to lose Lamar Jackson or something like that. Is there another receiver or a couple of guys we should look out for in later rounds that would make the ravens offense better? Yeah, I think there's some bigger receivers. You look at Cedric Tillman from Tennessee. He had the injury this past year only played 5 games, but the previous season had a breakout year and was a star for the vaults. And Jonathan mingo is another guy, big receiver, 6 three, 220 pounds, ran in the four floors. We're in a four four 6 at that size. And it's a big slot receiver who can get down the field and win a lot of 50 50 battles. So I think it's a combination of whether it's size speed or a combination of both. They need someone who can stretch the field. And when the ball is up in the air, go up and get it. And they just haven't had that guy consistently with the ravens. And as long as I can remember. Yeah, mingo played in a creative offense, too, it'll miss. We're going to let Todd run here. Is he's front and center on the SportsCenter special top of the hour over on ESPN2 Mel pepper junior. Chris Morton field Yates joining Todd this entire two round mock draft thanks to Todd. Don't miss that time. He's already watching it. Yeah, he is. He's got a loaded up. "What's going on. I got Josh Ellen. That's what I'm saying. Yes. I'm saying you put the pressure on the defense. Which one would you want to be hit by less coming at you downhill? No, and so when you think about that, when you think about the Derrick Henry and if he is on the market, the teams that need them are the ones that are debt close to getting over the bills. The Buffalo Bills are there because the last thing they need is to take some of the pressure off Josh Allen, having to do the dirty work as the runner. So now you've got that physical back and a Derrick Henry or another supersize back to do some of that. And they have to commit to running the ball a little more to take that pressure off. But yes, they need a marquee back to do some of that stuff to take the pressure off Josh Allen and let him throw it all over the yards and Stefon Diggs and others. All right, the last one for you. And then, of course, I'd love to have you back as we're getting ready for the big draft day. The player you love, the film jumps off at, you think. Let's keep it quarterback century. Let's talk about hand and hooker from Tennessee. And there's a lot of conversation about hinden hooker and the age and the 6 year player from Tennessee and transfer from Virginia tech. If he's healthy to me, he's quarterback three. When you look at his tape and you watch how he plays, this guy is a pro. He throws it. He spends it the way that you want to do it. He has a calmness about him in terms of the leadership ability that I can trust him and so at a time where teams are looking for that value quarterback in the second round that you can get. They've maybe can be the Jalen hurts. Right. Henry hook it to me is the one that maybe you cast your law with him if the team is good. He's ready to kind of go in there and do some things. I think he is the one that you need to look at, even though the knee is a concern because he tore his ACL at the end of the year. When he's healthy and ready to go, I think he's going to be a very solid start in the league. And that's why maybe the colts don't call Lamar today. They can just sit tight, hold tight, hope that somebody falls in, but man, that's a lot of hoping and wishing. I know. That's the point you got to have a quarterback. Or you could say screw it, I'll trade into the end of the first round form. I get a 5th year control, like what they did, the ravens did for Lamar Jackson. Yes. Great stuff, man,

"I don't know that specifically, obviously. To me as we speak here today on March 13th. Yes, sir. And there's a long way to go. CJ Stroud to me would be the guy that I would feel most comfortable taking because I think he's just really efficient in the pocket. He's 6 three. As I said, he's just a natural thrower of the football. CJ Stroud is the guy that really stood out. Bryce young is such a good player. But as I said, I'm just so uncertain as to the size. And not the height as we discussed. It's really the weight and the frame more than the height. But CJ Stroud would be the guy that I would probably point to at this point. Well, I mean, what would make sense about that? And again, obviously nobody's holding you to anything either. Nobody knows. I hope not. Nobody knows, Greg. Nobody knows. But it would make sense in the fact that young didn't throw at the combine Stroud did. And this move was made directly on the heels of the combine and before the new league year. I mean, truly, we were 5 days removed from packing up at the combine and this deal was struck. Right, so that does kind of dovetail in that. But then there is also the case. In fact, look, like I said, I think there's meaningful concerns about Richardson, but people look, people are going to look at Josh Allen, okay? I'm sure we discuss Josh Allen in the past rich came out of Wyoming. Now he's a better thrower than Richardson, but he was definitely scatter shot in college. And now people look at him and how he's progressed and he's clearly one of the three or four best quarterbacks in the league and his ball placement has become clearly better and it's easy to look at that and say, oh yeah, that'll happen with Anthony Richardson. You know, we don't know that, but like you said, someone will believe they can clean that up and the big playability, which is what a lot of people now, hey, you know this. That's what people look at. Explosives on offense and let's prevent explosives on defense. That's what the game in the eyes of many has become and Richardson does give you that kind of those kinds of traits. Whether he can become consistent throwing the football, that remains to be seen. Are those the only four you've grinded tape on or is there anybody else? No, I watched hinden hooker. Who I think throws the ball really, really well. He's another really easy thrower of the football. Within the context of his offense and that will be discussed as well. He played in kind of a relatively pure version of an air raid passing game with its emphasis on no huddle fast tempo, widespread formations, what we call pure progression reads, where a quarterback is not really taught to understand much about the subtleties and nuances of defense. So that will be a discussion as well. But hinden hooker is a big tall kid. He stands tall in the pocket. He throws the ball well. He's got movement ability. He's got very good traits as well. And DTR from UCLA. I've not done him in great detail. One of my favorite guys to watch though and he was at the combine. And I'm sure you spoke about him with DJ in that first group. I loved watching JK play. He really, he played, he drilled really well. There's no question about it. Last one for you. The jets are currently waiting to hear from Aaron Rodgers. What did you see out of Zach Wilson last year? Anything that makes you think that there's still something in there that he hasn't developed, that maybe Nathaniel Hackett can help or because at this point in time, as you and I are talking, either Rogers is coming and the kid's going to have a couple more years to marinate and learn at the hand of the king. Or Lamar is going to show up and he's going to have and he'll be gone. Or there's going to be some sort of stopgap that kind of forces the issue of let's see Zach if the jets struggle against a schedule that looks insanely difficult as we're sitting here in March, Greg, what's your evaluation? And again, as you and I both know, none of us are in the locker room, so I can't speak to any of that. I'm only going to speak to the tape. And he's a very loose, undisciplined player, rich in terms of mechanics, fundamentals. It's different. It seems on every single throw on every single play. He's another guy. We talk about pace and touch. He does not have pace in touch on short throws. Everything is thrown too hard. Too much velocity on those throws. He's a little bit scatter shot. So he misses too many throws. And by the way, ball placement is the term I always use because even on completions, the quarterback is more responsible for run after catch than the receiver. And when a receiver is opened by NFL standards, the quarterback is responsible, responsible both for placing it in the spot where there's run after catch. He's not a very accurate thrower of the football right now. And every once in a while, you'll see something special because just as an easy thrower, I mean, he throws it very, very easily, really good arm, loose arm, live arm, light, athletic feet, the traits look really, really good, but there's just a number of the details and nuances and the subtleties of the position and it starts with the fact that he's just so loose and undisciplined with his mechanics. I don't know how he's coached. I don't know how he was coach. I don't know how he will be coached. But if these things don't change, he's ultimately not going to get any better. Well, now, just again, total generalities, as you point out, we're not talking locker room, we're not talking about anything other than what you see on tape and what you see on tape that can translate to neck up ability and obviously neck down ability in all of that. Do you recall in all your years of grinding tape? Somebody who comes out of college looks like Zach Wilson and then eventually blossoms into a Super Bowl winning quarterback. Do you remember anything like that? I'm sure there are I've been doing this for you guys who started off poorly in their careers and ended up becoming good quarterbacks. I mean, I can't think of one immediately offhand. Okay. But I'm sure that's been true. Sometimes it takes it. But it's rare. Sometimes it takes a change of scenery. Sometimes it takes the player himself, understanding that, hey, I've got to change the way I go about doing my job. All these things you and I don't know about, obviously, we're not there. Right. Of course it can happen. Again, I don't know Zach Wilson, I never met him. But certainly when people watch him throw a football, they go, wow, anybody you talk to the year he came out because obviously he was in the Trevor Lawrence class. People will tell you, he was the best thrower. And that's just one thing. Obviously, it's important. But everybody will tell you, he was the best thrower of the football. There's many other factors that go into it. And those factors have been unfortunately too close to the bottom, as opposed to the top. Greg, thanks for the time, Matt. Let's look for more of my calls as you grow in more tape and we get closer to the draft. Always appreciate your time, sir. Rich, I really appreciate it. Thank you, my friend. Right back at you at Greg cosell on Twitter just one G at the front, one in the back. Cosell, I follow him, you should as well right here on the rich eisen show.

"Got a lot latest actually, but this one about buzz words in college football, what do they mean? I don't know, because I try to avoid talking about things like culture and fit, and anyway, let me get to Andy, joining us from the athletic just back from a combo, the combine, Andy, thank you for the time. So tell us what these words really mean. The question for Tennessee fan because they're not used to having great culture and great alignment in the last few years and it feels like they've got that now. So cultures like this really bizarre abstract thing. But to answer the Tennessee fans question, I was explaining, the players actually want to show up in the offices now. They want to go visit their coaches. They want to be around one another, which was a pretty dramatic departure from the gerrymandering. And that's a good sign of a healthier culture. I think Alabama has been the healthiest culture over the last ten years. And what Nick Saban's done is said, hey, you know, your individual goals. You being better individually will help make us all better. So you work as hard as you can to dominate this next moment and all of you do that and will be better as a team. And that's a very, it's a very healthy culture, but with Tennessee, the other word, the reader asked about was alignment. And Paul, we hadn't seen great alignment at Tennessee in a long, long time, but they actually have that now kind of administration top down, which I'm very excited to see with hinden hooker gone with Darnell Wright going with some good players not on the roster anymore. How does Josh hype will keep that going? Because they do have support from the athletic director to the Chancellor on campus to the system. They really are as aligned as they've been golly since probably I was covering the team back in the early 2000s. Yeah, I always thought of alignment with what you get when you go by firestone on a Saturday morning. But I think Scott Woodward and Brian Kelly shattered that phrase when at that higher move on because everyone's healthily aligned right now, the ACC, they are not aligned, not aligned. Let's get to them and I know they're commissioner Jim Phillips says all the right things, even when he's saying the wrong things. But can this league be saved? It's too big a word, but can they figure it out in time? So in time is the interesting question because they're together for the next 13 years if you're to believe their grant of rights and media rights deal with ESPN. So unless someone is going to be very daring and challenge that grant of rights, which is basically an agreement that says, the league has the rights to all your home games until the TV contract ends in 2036. So unless somebody's really daring and feels like they can mount a successful legal challenge that they're going to be together till 20, 36 ish. But what is going on is you've got schools like Clemson and Florida state and Miami and North Carolina who feel like they would have options if they could be on the open market. We're saying, look, we know that if we're on the open market, we will have a chance to go somewhere else. So how about you slide us a little bit extra and we make more than some of the teams in the conference who might not have options if they were on the open market. And naturally, if your Boston college, if your Syracuse, you look at that going, what am I going to give you money now? We got a deal here. And so they're going to fight this out. And it's a really interesting call because ten years ago, USC was saying this same thing in the pack 12 and they're like, we're going to leave when we have a chance. We're going to leave when we have a chance. Well, guess what, two years before their deal was up, they said, we're leaving when the deal is up. So that's really the part they've got to get figured out is there's an expiration date on this. Whether it's 2034 or 2033, when you get close to the end of that deal, are those schools going to be like, you didn't play any ball with us or forget you. We're going to talk to these other leagues and see if we can go somewhere else. Is there anything realistically? Because I know it's great for Twitter and great for Twitter when it's working, by the way. To get headlines, is there anything they can really do, Andy until much closer to the end? Not unless one of their lawyers comes up with a dynamite strategy for attacking that grant of rights. And according to people I've talked to, nobody's quite come to that yet. I think you heard Florida state's athletic director and board of trustees and they talked about an exit fee, but they didn't mention how much it would cost if they didn't have their home games. And the more sick of it they get, the more options they're going to explore, but even talking to people at the schools that would like things to change, they're pretty afraid of that grain rights. Andy, let's get to the weekend in Indianapolis and kind of census was going to happen, but Anthony Richardson, everyone loved him. Everyone talks about his talent.

"Still be able to make plays down the field. And that's where I think we don't know yet who that guy is going to be. But Bama did have that vertical deep threat last year and heard them all. I think the junior college kids will like Vincent has a chance to be that guy. They don't defense Kevin steals no stranger. To Nick, this is his third straight time or third time around with Nick Saban. They want to be more aggressive, force more turnovers, force more negative plays on defense than maybe they did the last year or two. I think that's the priority on defense, clearly they have talent that you don't have that marquee quarterback. So you probably are going to have to be more team worried. Oriented guys all around the quarterback. And I think that starts on defense to help set up the offensive this year. I'll go to LSU next, Brian Kelly coming off of a surprising first year expectations are now, I wouldn't say they're out of control, but they're going to be pretty strong. How is this program equipped to deal with that? And make another run toward Atlanta. Yeah, there are going to be really expectations are going to be outside and with good reason. I mean, if you look at the west and it's not Alabama, I think LSU is right there. We got a lot of young talent, defense fall. Remember mason Smith comes back from an injury. He already played it all last year. And he is a terrific player, a pro type player. You got Jane Daniels back at quarterback. I always look at two things and look at experienced playmakers at the quarterback position and I look at line play. Now, LSU is really young and the optics of line last year and it cost him the time. Those guys are all back. And then you've got Harold Perkins on defense who's a finisher. So they've got seemingly all the pieces in place. But to your point, how do they handle these expectations? No one really expected Brian Kelly in year one to do what they did and get to the SEC championship game. And I think one of the more fascinating storylines this year on both sides, both the east and the west is LSU truly here to stay in the west, Tennessee short year to stay. Are those two teams both of them were better than anybody really dreamed they would be last year. Was that a one year deal? Or and Josh Eiffel, Tennessee and Brian Kelly LSU sort of keep building on what they did last year. Chris, before you go a couple of other ones in Tennessee, you live there. What do you hear on the vols and expectations pretty high as well for Josh hippo under in Joshua's third year? We lose a lot of key players fall starting with hinden hooker and he's going to be a tough one to replace, but I do think the hypo system and his offense, the way they play, they have sometimes it's easier to bring in other guys and certainly they lose two really good players that receive as well, but that system has been really, really successful before UCF and we've seen in two years what they've done. Joe Milton, I think, gives him a lot more confidence at quarterback based on the way he played Paul against Clemson in the orange bowl. He looked composed. He didn't. He didn't try to play outside himself. He used the guys around him and remembering that bowl game, he was without a couple of their top web but you chose not to play, so I think that's probably the best news for Tennessee played against a really good defense and played well in Tennessee B Clemson pretty soundly in that game. Chris, many thanks, great to hear from you, as always, and good look at the SEC, the spring. We'll continue our previews as more camps be begin to open. There were a long way from being done. This is Monday and of course southern hoops on and we'll talk to the national championship winning coach from Kentucky in 19 98, tubby Smith will join us Staples on the combine, Tom green on what happened to old mist down the stretch. "Have been two quarterbacks drafted in the first round that were shorter than 6 feet tall. Kyler Murray and Johnny manziel, both Murray and manziel weighed 200 and 7 pounds, which is the lightest weight for any quarterback drafted in the first round since 2006. Bryce young was listed at 6 feet, 194 pounds at Alabama. We'll see what his measurements are tomorrow here in Indy, but Dan Mina and RC got ahead of things by sizing him up in a different way. All right, roddy, thanks for that. I'll take over from here. So we wanted to put a little context to Bryce young and his size in comparison to maybe other peers. So our C me and myself, so we got the cardboard. The cardboard cutout. So this is Bryce, who's listed at about 5, ten, a 194 pounds. And so going to the best defensive tackle at least in football this year, Chris Jones, and just kind of comparing how big Chris is to Bryce. Chris is 6 foot 6, three 110 pounds. So my takeaway right now is I'm 6 5, a little bit. I'm eye to eye with Chris Jones. You safety in the NFL. Your eye to eye with Bryce young, the starting quarterback. That's a little bit different than the NFL. It's a little bit different, but we also have to realize that this has been Bryce young's entire life. And it's going to be about not necessarily throwing over Chris Jones. It's going to be about finding areas to get the football around him. Now it's going to be when Chris Jones lands on the bright young or throws bright down. How does he recover from that? And I'm not too worried about the height, I'm more worried that we seem to have a size to be honest. But yeah, as far as the height goes. The cardboard that I would move. But it's great. I mean, when you look at him and just go side to side, let's move this around a little and like it is kind of shocking because I think of it's hard to see. Justin Herbert. And I think of Josh Allen. And bring in somebody like a Kyler Murray or something like that. All right, so let's get Kyler. Kyler is probably right around the same size as Bryce young now. Bryce's slider Kyler is probably 15, 20 years. I mean, but like the height thing and we could sit there and say, Kyler, but he hasn't necessarily been tasked to throw around guys so much because of the style of offense that cliff Kingsbury's asked him to play. He also got hurt this yet past year running around. You know, I think that's part of this as well. Yeah, but you also got to think about the way that Kyler was hurt is a lot different from what we'll see from Bryce young. Bright young moves around in order to make plays down the field whereas Kyler has to use that mobility in order to create offense with running the fight. So frame wise, I think this one makes a little bit more context when we're talking about injury concerns and durability as it pertains to being slight. This was a concern that people had about devonte. And that's the thing for me is they are basically the same height. I mean, devonte is a little thinner, but like when it comes to frame, the slightness of frame in the height. I mean, those guys are more comparable than I think prices. So for you though, what's the difference in playing the wider position here playing quarterback? Yeah, because there were concerns about durability and whether he could beat press, but as a wide receiver, he is not absorbing the sort of contact that Bryce young is going to absorb in the pocket on literally potentially every down. And devonta Smith has proven to be, I mean, he has proven a lot of people wrong when it comes to his size because he is so slippery and he is so fast, right young though, very different set of challenges as it pertains to his weight. Yeah, I think that's the big question. It's not the concern or question about, is he good enough for big enough to play? It's going to be is he good enough or is he big enough to absorb that one big shot or the shots that are going to accrue over the course of a season and then four or 5 years into a career that's going to be the question that teams have to come and be at peace with. Ronnie back to you. A very fascinating visual there from everybody. We expect the Bryce young. Well, here is name called toward the top of the draft, but what about some sleepers at the QB position, okay? There are plenty of current quarterbacks that have found success after being drafted outside the first round. Brock purdy started the NFC championship game after being the last player drafted a year ago, Jalen hurts, who was drafted in the second round back in 2020 was the MVP runner up last season and put on a show in the Super Bowl. So time for some quick reads, Louis Riddick, give me a quarterback you like that'll be taken outside the first round. Yeah, I'm gonna talk about Jake hayner from Fresno and I saw him down at the senior ball and I'm sitting there looking at Brock purdy and I'm going Jake Heyman reminds me a little bit of broad party. When you saw him at the CEO, he was the clear cut best quarterback down there as far as command of the huddle. Command at the line of scrimmage, his decision making his accuracy his movement outside the pocket thrown on the move. This guy lit it up. But I went down there expecting jaren hall to kind of really maybe separate himself a little bit, and it was Jake hayner who wound up doing that. I think he's one of those guys who's just a pure passer and he will shine tomorrow. Yeah, Luke, that's a great one. I like 8 O'Connell from Purdue. We experienced a 60 year player or former walk on so you know he's dealt with some adversity. You said Brock purdy. That's actually who I saw with 8 no Connor or mail at Bayley zappy who came out of western Kentucky was super productive. We saw him play a couple of games this past year for New England Patriots. O'Connell is not going to wow you with foot speed. He's not going to allow you with arm strength, but I think the touch, timing, anticipation, the way he carves up the middle of the field. No he's probably not going to be a starter, but he's somebody that could be a high level backup in the NFL as a day three pick. I'll go with hendon hooker out of Tennessee. One love the journey had to start at Virginia tech and then transfer to Tennessee had to call a couple of college football games. The maturity is outstanding. He is older, so is Joe burrow. Talented thrower. Big athletic player that can throw to every aspect of the football field had a ton of success, throwing the deep ball at Tennessee this year. And I think the journey is a good thing for him because the mental kind of toughness and the tough skin that it's built up for him. A sleeper team potentially, if they don't get a deal done with Daniel Jones, the New York Giants that also throw this out there, the Miami Dolphins with two his health and then the New Orleans Saints if they don't get a guy in frequency like Derek Carr. Yeah, it's really interesting. And by the way, everyone calls hinden hooker an old man. He's 25. He's not that old. Do you like the idea of hinden to the Giants? Maybe if they don't get the deal done with Daniel Jones, even though Adam Schefter did report earlier in the show that they're getting close to that. I do like to fit. I think hinden would have been a first round prospect, had he not had the ACL injury. Even with the age being a factor as he turned 25, two months ago, so yes, you have to factor it in, but the tape to me said, yes, this is something that can be a starter in the NFL. You mentioned the New York Giants. Why not the Seattle Seahawks? We talked about last year. Maybe they should have drafted a quarterback. Obviously it worked well with the Geno, but I just think from a scheme fit, hinden is ability to throw the deep ball to see deep coverage. He's got wheels as well as a runner. Like this is what you want in a quarterback and again, we mentioned the maturity, the experience, and only two interceptions last year I know Dan we talked off camera, the scheme, some of that. Part of it. But a lot of that's him being a really good thrower too. Excel in this game too. And you know, we're talking about good fits for quarterbacks. Well, it's good for Daniel Jones that he doesn't really need to find a home right now and he's probably going to wind up signing the New York, but if this was a quarterback needy team. Based off of what Mike Kafka and Brian debo did this year, that team would jump immediately to the top of the list of going, you want to play here. These are the people who you want to work with. And hinden hooker, yeah, I mean, he'd be great for a place like that. And let me just go back to JK and say this about him. He's one of those guys like if you saw him walking along this concourse, you would be like, no, you're not an NFL prospect. But it brought pretty hasn't taught us about just how important context is and overall structure surrounding the quarterback position itself. Brought party made it look like, man, do we really need Trey Lance? Do we really need the guy who we traded up and traded a mint a way to get? Do we really need him? I'm just telling you, slow down on all the measurables and getting intoxicated with how a person looks and watch how he plays. Yeah, it's smart perspective. You brought up Tom Brady earlier too, right? My goodness. If there's ever an example of that, it's probably Brady. Coming up on NFL live, stay with us because despite being projected as one of the top four quarterbacks in the draft, we'll levis has some doubters. We'll talk through that and we'll find out why some don't see him

"I think it works a little bit the other way. Like no news is good news, right? Yes, there's this allegation out there of failure to monitor. But if this thing just sort of drags along and drags along, it never reaches the sanction stage. I mean, Tennessee is in the free and clear, right? They never self imposed any penalties. So for them, no news is sort of acceptable news. I think for Jeremy Pruitt, the sooner he can reach a resolution in this case, the better with the caveat that he doesn't want to stomach a multiple year show cause here. Jeremy, very much wishes to become a college football coach in some capacity. Again, at some point in the future and accepting a show cause would be a significant hurdle to that. Meyer from USA Today joining us, let's flip topics for just a moment, Blake, you've done a lot of other reporting and in your latest which SEC football team can pull a Tennessee. There we go. We're talking about the vols. In 23, start with the ball. So take it through what you have come up with here. Yeah, if you look at the past couple of years, Paul, we've had teams with a coach who's starting to settle in and has a talented veteran quarterback. I think exceed expectations and reach a new year's 6 bowl. One is access polls just outside the college football playoff. You go back a couple of years ago and that was lane kiffin and an old miss with Matt corral in reaching that sugar bowl against Baylor there sort of exceeded expectations that year last year. It was Tennessee with him and hooker and second year coach Josh heifer. And now in the wonder of who can achieve that this year, I do think we have to start with Tennessee because even though hinden hooker has now moved on and is preparing for the NFL Draft, going to see as a quarterback who is the orange bowl MVP and Joe Milton and has now going into his third year in this program was formerly a starter, both at Michigan and at Tennessee. Loss of job both times. I think it's fair to question whether Joe Milton can find the consistency to go along with his big arm. I mean, he's got one of the strongest arms in college football. And yet, the last we saw of him last year was against the Clemson and the orange bowl. And played very, very well. I think he's gotten more comfortable in Josh hypo system. And in high school, obviously going into his third year now kind of has a pretty well oiled machine on offense as long as Milton proves up to the task. And of course, right behind him is the 5 star quarterback who's already enrolled in Nico EMA Ava. So I do think that the conversation of who's sort of maybe flying below the radar here. I think Tennessee is among the list. People think, well, hinden hooker's gone. How are they going to how are they going to manage, but I look at that schedule and think, if lines were set today, other than Georgia and Alabama, who would Tennessee being underdog against. I think they'd be favored in every other game. And I also look at South Carolina, we really started to see, I think, Shane beamer and Spencer Rattler kind of find their stride toward the end of last season and wins against Clemson and Tennessee. My question for South Carolina though is can they find the consistency that has sort of alluded them throughout the first two years of Shane beamers tenure. They've had some Sterling winds, they've also had some really bad head scratching losses and that narrative to an extent also defines Spencer Rattler's career. He's had some brilliant performances in the quarterback at Oklahoma and South Carolina. He's also had some kind of maddeningly inconsistent performances, but I do think when you think about a settled in coach and a veteran talented quarterback, I do think South Carolina has a bit of the makings of a sleeper team that if they put it all together can kind of try to ascend to new year's 6 type aspirations this year in Shane Bieber's third season. Oh, he's great stuff with Blake taught Meyer from USA Today. Many thanks. Blake, thanks for updating us on the Pruitt situation with Tennessee. We had to the break. "I hope it's time since. If that's the case, that's another freshman. And that 78 team, if I remember, let's see, that's the one that lost a loss of Southern California. Yeah, 28, 14, yeah. Right. But beat pinch state Penn State in a one versus two sugar bowl. Bubba, I'd have to think about that comparison because you may have some freshman playing, you also have a young man playing a quarterback who doesn't have much experience. Hey, thank you for the call. Let's continue and Bill as in Virginia. Hey Bill, you're on the air. Hey Paul, how are you doing today? We are all great. Thank you. Hey, don't want to cause no problem here, but the guy Clinton has just called from Georgia. Yeah. Alabama didn't get bodies in that championship game. And he needs to remember the last time that George got beat, Alabama beat him, and I know everybody said this and I know you can laugh at me, but had they not bought those receivers? That could have been a different national championship game. I just want him to, you know, come down a little bit. Well, listen, I understand that and we all were there, and we remember it well. What did that game mean? That game got Alabama into the national playoff without that win Alabama was going to go home. So it was important. I don't want to say it wasn't. How important it was to Georgia is debatable because Georgia was going to go to the playoffs and be the number one seed regardless. Hey, thank you for the call. Appreciate it. And let's continue Peyton is up next. I hate Payton. Hey. What's going on with you? I just wanted to, I just wanted to know, what are your thoughts on Tennessee next season without hinden hookers? Well, I'm a little bit concerned. I mean, brew McCoy needs to step up. Obviously, you know, hooker and Hyatt gone is a big deal, but if Joe Milton looks as good in the regular season as he did in the playoffs, and I think Tennessee will be in pretty good shape. I think it would be hard to replicate this past season though. What do you think, Peyton? I would say yes, because I think just because all the wide receiver talent we've lost and not just that, that was one of the best quarterbacks that Tennessee has had. And also, I was going to say, what do you think the Nico situation is going to be in 2024? Yeah. He's the $1 million quarterback to many $1 million. I don't know. I mean, I think everybody's pretty upbeat, optimistic. Could he play, but I'm reluctant to go much deeper than that and in terms of a meaningful opinion. Hey, thank you for the call. Appreciate it. Let's take a break.

"It was there, but it wasn't like it was something that they leaned on heavily. In fact, more than anything, it was a change up and a really effective one of that. But to see the fact that when you look at it, the game, the way the game has, we'll call it evolve. Maybe it's devolved, there's not a lot of offensive front that can hold up consistently and pass protection anyway. You better have a quarterback that can move. The defensive lines and the rush is better than the protection. I'll make my best on that. And if that's the case, you better have a quarterback that can fix it. And part of it is playing fast in the pocket mentally, but the other is being able to just escape, extend plays, buy time, be mobile innovation enough within the pocket. My Bobo's gonna covet the same things. And the same, I think, to the same extent. And so because of that, I don't think that ultimate decision has changed that much just because you have a new play caller and Mike Bobo as the offensive coordinator. So stench, when I look at Georgia under Kirby smart, one thing that I never questioned is the ability in which they recruit and the defensive side of the football. And the offensive side of the football, every position, except quarterback. You look at stetson Ben and how great he was to this Georgia university university of Georgia. And he was the one guy that they wanted to shoo away two or three times. And he just wouldn't go away. Do you still believe that Georgia's next great quarterback, Kirby smart has recruited in there versus he got stuck with this one that just turned out great? Yeah, what the guys been able to recruit at a relatively high level. I mean, he did side Justin field. He didn't cheat him. Partly because he had another guy that he could win with that, I want to say from was, what, a four star, I think? Something like that? So it's not as if he was some scrub that they, you know, shined up and throughout there. They have they've recruited well. They've got guys that have that mobile element to their game. That's on their campus now. I don't know. And there's no inside baseball here. I don't know that the quarterback room right now is going to look the same as it will in August. Or even before May rolls around. We don't know that that's changed or that that's static, rather, that position. And so because of that, there might be that quarterback that's already on that campus, they certainly recruited relatively well at that position. They might already be in that room and they might come from another roster. Steve, you kind of brought up an interesting point of offensive lines, not being able to protect versus the defensive players that we see this day and age. But Roman and our Chad and earlier, we just don't think there's as many scary guys on defense as there was even three years ago, much less 5, ten years ago, all new offensive coordinators, all these new quarterbacks coming in. What's going to be better collectively in 2023? SEC offenses or SEC defenses. That's a great that's a great question. It is an interesting observation incidentally, especially when we're talking about like front 7 defenders. Money down defenders. The guys we are like, we better game plan for this cat where he wrecks the outcome of the game. We could. It's an interesting point. I mean, who is this year's this upcoming years? What's the next generation? Will Anderson junior, you knew about a jailing quarter. Who's the guy? That's an interesting observation. But that said, you know, the broader ecosystem being disrupted with not only new coordinators and play callers, but new quarterbacks. You think about it, the stetsons, the hinden hookers, the will offices, the price youngs, those guys are gone. And they were the most prominent, at least the most successful quarterbacks. If we want to include talent, the Anthony Richardson's of this conference. And so you would think that the offense takes a step back, I think that might be more a function of the disruption on the offensive side of the ball than it is an emergence or even an expansion of the really scary defenders because I'm just sitting here going off the top of my dome, who is that guy. Who's a front 7 defender right now where you're going, hey man, it started and you got to have it on offense. We better have a locator on who's that guy and how many of them could leave and come up with right now. It'd be a pretty short list. Small handful states always great stuff. Thank you. It's always entertaining always fun. I hope you get all the candy, your heart desires. What a job. For 24 hours. Send me some Reese's pieces, please. Thanks, dench. Appreciate it. Matt stance comes joining us on the phones there. We'll have that conversation. When we come back, defensive players that are scary, you need to game plan for. Could you just wreck an offensive game plan? How many are there coming back in the SEC this falling on the flip side of that? Who are going to be the dudes at quarterback? Robert and I discussed that next right here on the Paul fine bomb show. You were listening to the Paul fine bomb show podcast. In a small, close knit community in Kansas, a group of men started meeting in secret.
