John Hinckley Jr.: 'It's Not Good to Have so Many Guns' in U.S.

"But when you step back and when you actually look at the facts, when you look at the numbers, you realize, well, wait a second. Yet these are horrible, terrible, tragedies. But ultimately, these things are very rare. Ultimately, we do not have a gun problem in America. By the way, John hinckley, remember that guy, the guy who tried to kill president Ronald Reagan, here's what he had to say, cut 6. I certainly don't think the mentally ill should have access to guns. I mean, that's kind of obvious. I mean, background checks are good and waiting periods are good. I mean, I think there's too many guns in America. The climate of the country right now is not good and it's not good to have so many guns. And coming from you, that's quite a statement. Well, I hope it is. Give us the way I feel. Okay, why was it this guy executed? Seriously, he tried to kill. He tried to assassinate a president of the United States. Now he's a free man.

Kellyanne Conway: Dems Are Losing Because They Lost Their Boogeyman

"Democrats are losing this argument on many levels. And the Democrats, as I said, at the beginning of the hour are in a freefall. I saw Kellyanne Conway visit with Jesse watters last night on TV on Fox News. She had a really profound observation about why the Democrats are floundering. The Democrats are falling apart because they've lost their boogeymen and their boogeymen have been Donald Trump and COVID. Democrats are cutting loose. A Biden and Harris. And look, the vast right-wing conspiracy are not the source of these quotes. And all the usual boogeymen that the Democrats and liberals and Biden and Harris and the rest of them have always used as a stalking horse, blaming this one, that one. They can't do it anymore. You know, Joe Biden won because he wasn't Trump. But he needed Trump and he did COVID to continue the juice in his presidency. And without being able to talk about either one or blame either one day by day, he's lost. He's completely bereft. She's right on. She's spot on. Yeah, and you know, one thing about Kellyanne Conway. There are a lot of people who know the whole Trump story without Kellyanne Conway. We didn't get four years of president Donald Trump. She got him elected. And wow, what a mess she had to face with that goofy husband of hers, that vicious, angry Trump hating husband who apparently was, I don't know, I want to get into any of that, but what a warrior she is.

I mean, we can have a vote for who is the worst mayor of Mary Lori Lightfoot's or mayor Lyndon breed. I mean, all these mayors are just ruining this country from gun control to homicide. I mean, I understand that you have all these shooting and what happened. I'm not trying to downplay it or anything like that. And in fact, I should go to prison or death penalty for the rest of his life. But how are we downplaying the 60 plus shootings in Chicago and the 18 people murdered in Chicago? How are we downplaying the more than 15 people murdered over the holiday weekend in Oakland? And all the black on black crime in the shooting that's happening. But hang on, but let me ask you something. Omar, let me ask you a question though. You're right there in the belly of the beast there. You're dealing with it. Let me ask you something. Don't you feel like the recall you got a huge recall effort in these big cities of these Soros funded prosecutors, they're being fired, gascon, all these prosecutors are facing a huge pushback. Well, out of Russia, the U.S. basketball player Brittany griner pleaded guilty in a Russian courtroom earlier today to drug charges that could see her facing up to ten years in prison. This is, according to a Reuters journalist who reported from the courtroom, she said she didn't do it deliberately, she did not intend to break the law, she apparently said that the mistakes she made was packing for the trip hastily. She was arrested February at the Moscow airport with vaping cartridges that contained hashish oil. This is exactly a young woman, you know, who was caught with a suitcase full of crack cocaine. She had vaping cartridges with hashish oil, which is a substance that is illegal in Russia. She's been kept in custody ever since. The scene of this awful 4th of July parade attack shed about their gun control laws in highland park, Illinois. That passage of the assault weapons ban in large capacity magazine ban that we put through in 2013 should be a template for others. And I've been working since 2018 to get the state of Illinois to allow other cities to have that opportunity through a weird twist in the way that we were able to do that. There was only a ten day window for cities in Illinois to pass assault weapons bans. That state preemption needs to be removed and I've been working on that. How did your assault weapons ban work out on July 4th? For the 7 people who were murdered.

The sentencing in a New York City courtroom was the culmination of a prosecution that detailed how Epstein and Maxwell flaunted their wealth and associations with prominent people to groom vulnerable girls and exploit them. Epstein died by suicide in jail awaiting trial. Maxwell denied being his accomplice. The 20 year sentence is shorter than the government recommended. "Paul, as somebody born here, did you ever expect to see a political adversary of an administration who hasn't killed anybody, is not a drug lord, be handcuffed at Reagan airport and put in leg irons to be physically transported by the federal agents to hinckley's cell in the bowels of the FBI. Did you did you think that was ever possible? Yeah, it's really shocking, isn't it? And Hank Lee sell right about the time that hinckley has been released recently released. It was unconditional release. Here we are 41 years after he shot Ronald Reagan. And what bothers me too is, in fact, taking this back to, well, again, the Reagan years, it was with the Iran contra hearings, trying to think who used this term at the time. It might have been Ed meese, who talked about the criminalization of policy differences. Yes. And this is something that the liberals have been doing. And in fact, here, it grows city college just this past week. We had one of our fellows in the institute for faith and freedom, Jay cost. And I know you've read Jake costs, he writes for RealClearPolitics, Washington examiner, national review. He's an expert on James Madison. And he was talking about Madison and the art of compromise. And how politics people make fun of politics being all about compromise, but really that's kind of a virtue of politics in a democracy is that you do have compromise. So parties learn how to compromise and their differences. In fact, Ronald Reagan in 1981, August 13th, 1981, got his enormous federal income tax passed with tip O'Neill and the Democrats overwhelmingly controlling the House of Representatives. The Washington Post called it the most remarkable example of bipartisan cooperation in politics in generations.

"Left the church, they left it forever. Or it may be even, they don't like how they observe the Sabbath day. Their activities on the Sabbath day will that's not how we raised our kids. We just don't do those sort of things. So it's a lack of understanding of the principle of free agency that we all get to act any way we want. So who is left the church, we're trying to take our free agency away from our kids and there's a lot of judgment and we're told not to judge. So, you know, it kind of comes down to. So that's a big thing. Leaving the church and how to deal with that, accepting that, and they have a hard time accepting that, the other thing is this idea of they feel like they're not important in their children's lives anymore. Their children are not asking them questions about what they're doing in life. They're not, I don't know, sending a Mother's Day cards. They're not calling them often enough. They're not responding to their texts on the timely basis that the parent wants them to, but they're just out there just trying to figure out life and navigate it the way they want to when I first became the adult child. I mean, we didn't even have all this texting. We live in a different generation. I remember your email talking about president, I think of as president hinckley's advice when he wrote home to his dad that he was having trouble on his mission and his dad said get to work. Yeah, forget yourself. Yeah. And that's not how we respond now because times are different. And so do we need to keep up with the times? I don't know. I think we just need to be sensitive. To those things. And so it's really the thoughts about what they're making their adult children's behavior mean when really it doesn't mean that at all. So I help them see there's always a different perspective to everything and I really do believe that love always wins that we can and that's our only responsibility as an adult as a parent to adult children is to love our children and I think also to tell them as often as we can, how great and wonderful they are. Yeah. And I wonder how much as we have sort of these expectations for adult children and then they go in a different way or they do things different or they make a dramatic change like even leaving the church or changing religions. Do you feel like some of that is, it's sort of like a projection on their own parenting. I must have done something wrong. We didn't read the scriptures enough or this would never happen. And so there's almost like this personal shame that they're going through as they're witnessing their children living their own life. Oh, definitely, definitely. And it all goes back to, yes, they, first of all, they have such a high need to have a reason so that's one of the reasons they come up with they must have not of taught them well enough. And I say, so give me some examples. And they really, they can't think of any. Yeah. Yeah, and that's our human brain, right? We want to fill in the gap. There's got to be a reason here. I want to pinpoint it. And then hopefully I can fix it or I have something to regret. Right. Right. Instead of we're all at some point, I mean, I was a convert to the church. So I went to that process, but if you're raised in the church, you all go through a time where you have to figure out for yourself whether you really believe this or not. Some people do it, you know, maybe in a matter of seconds, others, maybe they have to leave for a while to figure out. But we're all, you know, we all come to our own conversion in our own way. So I think it comes back to giving our children the space to let them figure it out. The way they best need to figure it out for themselves. Yeah. And so it's I call it staying out of God's business. I think he's up there saying, would you just let it be the way it's going and it's having that faith, it's all going to work out. We are not a church of fear. We are a church of love. So let's just keep working on our own conversion and how we can be better and work on better living the commandment not to judge and to love everyone. Yeah. The point you bring up as far as our role is only to love. And that's even more prominent and more true when you're parenting adult children where, you know, in my situation of my 7 year old wakes up and wants to eat M and ms for breakfast, which has happened several times in my life. I can, of course, I want to overwhelm him with love and just love, love, love, and I want him to remember his father is just someone who just loved him unconditionally and overwhelmingly. But at the same time, I have to really help him that behavior helping him see there's a consequence. If we just eat candy for breakfast or whatnot, and then but we sort of maybe it's hard to make that transition out of that state of mind where I have to abandon all their my influence on their behaviors at some point and just simply love them. And so that's maybe a more prominent principle in this adult to adult parental relationship. Is that a good way to say that? Yeah. I just don't think you have a right as a parent of what 7 year old did you say? No, we don't eat M and ms. You know, for breakfast or in the middle of the night or whatever. But, you know, if my adult child wants to do something foolish as that or it may be, yeah, I'm gonna, after high school, I'm just gonna go off and tour the world. You know, I'm just gonna take my backpack and see what there is to find out there, you know, it's not my place to say, well, no, we don't do that. We go find a.

Hinckley trump who john hancock. Who did he shoot. He shot reagan and he shot. James brady that all that gun control brady bill and thirty three years after he shot brady brady did die of his injuries. Which changed the classification of brady from being injured to having been killed by klay which means that hinckley was guilty of homicide murder but they refused. They declined to charge him with murder so they could have charged him with murder right then when when brady died but for some reason they didn't and not very long ago few years ago hinckley was released from prison and remitted remanded to the custody of his mother where he lived with a bunch of conditions. And my father used to say always telling me. It's like if if you should cop or presidential sash wherever they absolutely throw the book at you but if like a regular person they just process you like everybody else but when you hit somebody big they will really come down on you well. I don't know if that's changing or what there's two there's another story like this so john. Hinckley this is what's crazy about. This story. is that he so he was remanded. Mother's custody his mother just died in july and the prosecutors so they were asking that he his defense whatever saying that he should have no conditions upon his release and his the conditions that he is like not in jail anymore but lives with his mom. This is the condition can't use alcohol professor possess a firearm. He can't contact any of the people whose family member he hurt. He can't watch violent movies or tv. He can't use porn. he can't speak to the press. He can't erase his computers. Web browsing history. There's there's a few things but a lot of them. Sound like good things for him not to be able to do he. And the prosecutor said look. His mother just died he will. He will be living alone for the first time ever. His psychiatrist of many many years is retiring and disbanding his emotional support group. And we just don't think this is the right time for this but the judge went ahead and allowed it..
