"hinch" Discussed on GSMC Baseball Podcast
"He went down with an injury that i think really affected their season. But hinch is no stranger in taking over these projects teams. If you will you know kind of taking over a you know a team that you have a lot to work with. You've got a lot of things to look forward to. You got a lot of pieces that you can work with and that you can for the future but this is what i'm curious about and this is where i bring in my point of. Are we going to start to see. And kind of see hinch exposed a little bit at least managerial skills. When he's in detroit and he's aware that he cannot use st cheating he can't use sign stealing how he was using it. And how it was being used in houston. Are we going to start to see potentially. Aj you know his actual managerial skills. Come to light and we find out that he really is not good and that. Aj hinch in arizona was the actual aj hinch as a manager. That did not have a good season. I mean he did not have a good year. And a half there in arizona and a lot of people feel that he benefited from this cheating scandal so much that made him look really good. It made him look like he's a great manager. And i think the tigers they could be falling into that trap or they could know something that everybody else on. The outside is not aware of that. He is a very good baseball mine and again it showed in that first year he was able to turn that team around. And i think the troy is looking for somebody to turn to turn this team around and not to mention a lot of these teams are going to want you know like the white sox perfect example. They were initially going after somebody like. Aj hinch he was actually a big candidate for them when they were looking for their new manager. They want somebody that's got experience in recent time in recent memory at the championship level. So that's aj hinch right there. He's got experience in the world series multiple times. He's been out of again. He's been out of baseball for a year but he's been in baseball in relative time and he knows the new trend of baseball so he was one point or another probably a very prime candidate for the chicago. White sox so the detroit tigers might be wanting to do something very similar. They're bringing in an experienced manager that has again. He brings experience from a championship level a championship caliber team and he could potentially apply that over into detroit. And i mean you've got not only johnson scoop. You've got heimer candle. Oreo and sure. Miguel cabrera is aging a little bit. He's getting a little bit older and if if he starts to if he retires and he starts to really decline. I mean in all honesty. That might not be a terrible thing. The tigers could free up some payroll they could maybe go after a free agent in maybe not necessarily this year but in the future and if they plan on having inch around for a long period of time it could really turn into kind of a rebuild phase that i think the tigers are now initially starting to sleep. I think this past season. The detroit tigers knew that or they might have been surprised at the team that they had and the abilities that a lot of the guys had and not only that but the performance that they put on. I mean the first month or so of baseball. They were hanging right there in the central. I remember even talking about it. On golden state media concepts baseball podcast. I remember saying this is one of the most surprising teams in all of baseball. I would never have guessed this. And i think that they're again. They're kind of slowly building themselves up in the having. Maybe kind of a you know a short little window of time to win like these other low to mid major are low to mid market teams in the in the mlb similar to the kansas city royals or the milwaukee brewers where. They've got this finite amount of time to make a move i think. Aj hinch is a very good person and a great manager and a great baseball mind to bring into that but again is he going to be able to fix some of the problems that they've had they had problems with pitching. I mean they're closer right you know. They're closing last. Year was not great. I it was. It was not it was not a very good at From not only the relief pitching but also from just the starting pitching in general. I mean it was a very very again it was. It was a quick bursts of success for the tigers to start and then they really started to plateau and the other thing is how henches reputation as a coach. Now and as a as a manager. Which i'm sure in the baseball world and the baseball community is not really well received if you will right now just because of kind of the baggage. He's coming into detroit with. Is that going to follow with him. As that. Going to possibly carry over and bleed over into detroit and it's going to affect his his managing. It's gonna affect the team. It could affect a lot of different things and the other thing that i'm very curious about is. Are we going to hear anything about sign stealing from the tigers because when that all came out right we all knew and we all had a feeling that you know there was players involved. It was more so kind of a couple of people that were really the masterminds of it. You know alex. Cora being one of them carlos beltran remember. He was really a big name in this in these reports. I believe alex bregman was a big name. Jose jose altuve. A lot of them took immunity so they would not get in trouble for this for their. You know their statements and everything else but could you know if this is a trend that goes into detroit. Could we now not only see okay. There's a trend that falls guy but now we could probably guess that in in houston he was most likely behind a lot of it and there was other people that took the blame for it. And that is. I think the problem. I think that we don't really know if he was in on it or not and if that could again affect anything that's going on in detroit when it comes to their pitching. I mean that's a big thing that needs to get the gets fixed. I mean joe him in as as is in his new role as closer. This past year in twenty twenty again he would really come out of the bullpen. Mainly mainly as a relief guy. You know a setup guy. This was his first experience in a sense being closer and he did not perform great. I mean sure he had five saves but that was about it. I mean he had a seven point. One five era and their entire. You know starting lineup. Their entire starting rotation was a i mean they had one guy that was throwing under a four. Era spencer turnbull. He was the only one in three point nine seven era so he was right there at four but then after that i mean you've got matthew boyd. He had six point seven one era. You have tariq's scuba who had a five point six three era casey minds. He had a six point nine. Nine era and these guys are starting multiple games. Michael fulmer eight point seven eight. Era there was only three pitchers. On the detroit tigers staff that started ten or more games and out of those three spencer. Turnbull is the only one to have that sub for era matthew. Boyd casey mine is being the other two who or excuse me michael former and matthew matthew boy being the other two and again neither one of them had anything lower than a six. Era so they've got a lot of things to work out with in terms of the pitching what their overall lineup is. Not not that bad. I mean it's i mean again. Heimer candelaria he does a lot for you. Jonathan scoop he does a lot for you And really as we go down the line a little bit..

"You know so. I don't see now if you could get chris carpenter to manage to coach and that'd be a great get car has some really interesting traits. We saw what he did on the field. You know i'm saying. Saudi did eleven in the world series. Great career prior to that but just a leader in every sense of the word players gravitated toward him when he spoke people listening. You know he's kinda got that commanding personality. You mentioned the game changing and get a little bit younger and and a little bit more. Flashy you know it. It's tony gonna have the ability to change. You know if you bring in. Chris rock and they're going to have the ability to change. Because it's not what it was five ten fifteen twenty years ago you know as far as the players expressing themselves differently and and the unwritten rules are starting erase as we've all seen so i think there's gonna be some give and take on both sides. Motorist this marriage to work. But i do think it's environmental higher anytime you can bring on and tony larussa. I think i think he gotta do. Y'all honestly i'm still just before and a few interviews talking about this. He's the greatest baseball mind. I've ever been around and i mentioned some pretty good ones and it's taking nothing away from the guys. I played for because they're all phenomenal managers but he just was excellent in a lot a lot of areas. That's really interesting.

"Hinch is the new manager of the Detroit Tigers. The announcement coming on Friday. "Themselves if Clemson and Notre Dame play each other again in the ACC championship and look if those two teams split, we could be talking about both of them in the semifinals come December twenty eighth. That's very possibility. Yeah. Now I know we say this a lot about Notre Dame at this time, and then somewhere along the line they. Over. Screwed up whether it's yeah but this could be. Really good football team. He got to the playoff one. Yeah. They lost to not the playoff but to the championship game that was the last time had been one of the big ones I believe them. And they got smoked threat they haven't been to the playoffs. Last year. As a bad championship game got hammered. Yeah. They got. It was done it like halftime was that McCarron's year one of. Trying to Karen that. It's been it's been a bit but Notre Dame's. Program here Brian Kelly is good football coach. They'll be ready and I can assure you Brian Cloudy. Notre Dame plays this week but I promise you. He's not talking about next week but deep in his mind he's expecting Trevor Lawrence too polite. Yeah. The only way you can they play Georgia tech this week, which we saw Clemson hang fifty plus on them in the first half. Kagins. Yeah. I. Think this will put it this way with thirty one point favorite that Clemson is over thirty one and a half points over Boston college both of them were coming into south southbound next week undefeated. Now for gamblers and point spreads that's up to you to figure out but as far as lens go and when we waltz into South Bend next week both these teams be undefeated and Clemson will still be number one and Notre Dame will be what are they four? Four four then they won't be moving off that mark. It'll be one verse four next week in South Bend, Sports Talk Seven Ninety shot South Ratio Mc's here. With me in our Guy Josh See. IT IS A. Sports Talk Ninety Rolling along we'll stick it out next. Let the celebrations start more sean sounds very on sports talk seven hundred. Sean. Now the sells very stakeout some. On on the Sean sounds ratio. What I'M Here is we're playing the stakeout. That's right. What you got. The Detroit Tigers mentioned they are on the verge of hiring AJ hinch to be there next manager after his suspension ended after the world series ended my question for you on the hinch hiring their Detroit is. When will he get them back into the postseason? They've not been there since two thousand fourteen not had a winning season since twenty sixteen. How long? Do you think it takes Aj hinch to get them. Back to a winning record this past year they went twenty three and thirty five in the sixty game season the year before that they went forty seven in one fourteen. All right he's going to get along leash. Okay. Not only. Yeah. I now. So he's hitching closer to a contract, right? God Yes. All right He's hinges away. Aj. Stay away from baseball to stay away I don't need to Hinch is. Twenty two, they win more than eighty two games. Next after this next, if they play baseball yeah. If there's not A. Right. So they will say, Max. Three. Years Realistic two years. For me. I think you're probably right. They've got some young prospects. And I think he'll and they've had the ability you WanNa talk about. Out They not they've spent in the past two. In George Springer, could land there. He wouldn't wanNA land there but they've gone big on players. Oh. Yeah. We like we said, money can change a lot of things man yeah. You can wait and try to hundred and seventy-five million bucks. Yeah. Well, if off season somewhere else you don't think AJ would go in there and pined for that. Yeah. What what a what a great way to start off leading off your games with George Springer Atlanta George Dongo. So I'm GonNa say twenty, twenty, two, they have a winning record. Latest while say twenty twenty latest twenty, twenty, three close in twenty maybe right around five hundred. Little under. But by the time he's into his third year they'll be optimism in spring training. It'll be optimism now when he science because Aj hinch but those prospects start to rear their head. low eighties by two, thousand, twenty, three. Make Sense. Yeah. I mentioned it earlier. I'm surprised AJ would actually go to Detroit I know it's probably the only job offer. He really has a chance to get right now but I think if he just waits a year even maybe later in the off season. That opens up that's to win now I thought about it too. and. Then I thought about this aspect of it. He sits he sits out he still has to wait another year to get a job this time guaranteed to come. And get a feel that. A lot of people aren't right jumping on this because of the bad pr. I mean the good jobs typically don't come open that's so he goes and takes this Detroit job. He deals with the media storm now, which isn't a typical media star has also been calls. He does it again, Spring Training, and then once we get playing baseball again, nobody's going to talk about him because he's managing the Detroit Tigers Right Stink and here's the deal. Remember how big a hero he was sixty game seat going from Sixty Game Seasons Division winner sixty win seasons. Now HE TURNS THEM INTO A. He's a hero. because. He again, he's going to have a leash. He's GonNa get along deal. That's right. He's going to get a long leash to turn this thing around like he's got he's got a great job scared look. I wouldn't want to live in the city of Detroit but I got news for you when they're winning good baseball. Yeah it really is so I don't think it's As crazy as I initially thought, it wasn't taking edge. Now if I was still I wouldn't take it. I would I would wait for different job, but it'd be WANNA get back in. You don't want you won't want to hold onto this thing make it last longer I get it I do too and plus when you're out of something guys out of any job you. Get better you end somebody presents you opportunity to give with one of the. With with eighteen running the show and having a long leash getting paid. More poorly, than the money right now for AJ, he gets a chance to get back and do what he loves to do. It's hard to replace those competitive juices again and getting rolling I get it now valid tramline sweet Lou, whitaker can just come back and get the short porch in right field again now, maybe Miguel Cabrera will hidden. because. He's only under contract like another four years. Here's what they do. Go Out and get go out and get go Cabrera actually lead them at home runs this year go out and then and bring in. Mar Martinez JD signed bachelor. It could bring back Got All, right? Miguel Cabrera's under contract for a guaranteed one two three more seasons at thirty, thirty, two and thirty, two, million through the age of forty and then he has vesting options which won't hit but he could potentially be under contract for another five years. Mickey. The last three seasons or something with Miguel. Cabrera. Has Been A to fifty hitter to eighty two with twelve home runs. To nine with three home runs to forty nine with sixteen home runs, he's not good anymore they're paying thirty million bucks a year Mickey. From Maggie Maggie Cabrera great great name though isn't it? He was on key Cabrera longtime. Love it. I agree maybe he finds something as back this year he's thirteen home runs away from five hundred and. Career about one hundred, forty hits from three thousand eight triple crown winner at one point. Crown. Two. Batting titles pretty good. That's a that's a hall of fame. Wait to happen from Gal Cabrera With that and macgyver lost my train of thought Was it about Aj Hinch? Detroit. Miguel Cabrera Berlinger JD, Martinez Oh by the way Pozas waived. So they're going to be fine looking for a new closer. Yeah. Ever in that was inevitable right? There's no way they're gonNA pay him ten million bucks to maybe that was a formality. Not, having he hasn't had Tommy John to be honest with you get a second opinion that said he didn't. But that's why you can't risk that. He continued to put it off. You continue to delay your return. Yeah. So yeah. So I think Aj Hinch my twenty, twenty three and yeah. Cabrera's getting paid a lot of.

Or just a very strong possibility if he does come back first off Handicap this and second if he does come back. Are you looking at full acceptance here is there any resentment will there be backlash or does he does it feel like he largely escaped you know the kind of the wrath of of Major League baseball and the public for his role in the cheating scandal with the acid feels like he's GonNa come out of this. Fairly clean. Well, he has been suspended for a full seizure and he was essentially fired although the Red Sox will remind you that the key phrases. Really agreed to Parkway's Yup up. Nonetheless, his punishment is every bit as severe as A. J. Hinch who was the manager and presumably the guy in charge in Houston. So as the top Lieutenant Chorus suffered the same penalty that the guy who was running the show. So sure I think he got off lightly he lost a year of salary. He lost he was exiled from the game for all the twenty twenty and his reputation is at least somewhat tarnished by association with that season does he come back I? Think it's on the table. I think the players would absolutely welcome outscore back with open arms. I don't say that in that they have rejected Ron Reynecke or never paid attention or listen to him. But core obviously had a bond with most of the players on that roster and they would welcome him back for twenty twenty one going forward. I think also opera management and ownership having strong affection for Alex Cora I think they were sort of guilted into making. The decision they did back in January to let him go I. think that there was probably some pressure from Major League baseball to do so they did so reluctantly but knowing they had to do it. That's at I think they would welcome him back with open arms at the x factor. Here is hind bloom. He's the guy who is the chief baseball officer was hired by the owner several months before core laugh to run it his way. Yeah. So you know while the owners are saying in West Spring you know we'd be okay with are coming back in the players shore with like it it was probably would probably play well with the fan base ultimately bloom has to decide is this guy it's gotta be his idea I who am I? Okay. Off on his return,
Astros Scandal: MLB's Nightmare Continues
"You've been up in the northeast all winner in near thirty degrees to come down here in the first days of Spring and you already getting seventy five eighty and muggy. It's very different but you know hot not only with the weather but also with the players who well let's get into that Are you covering baseball a long time? Have you ever seen anything like we've witnessed over the last week? Absolutely not look. I mean the early days of spring training are usually about. Who's in good shape who worked? What pitch they worked on during the winter and here it's just flame-throwing. I know personally. I lost respect for those guys. Everyone in the show in the big leagues lost respect for those guys day after day after day of players being critical. But the part. That's so different is the peer to peer stuff. It's damaging to baseball. I feel like every single guy over. There needs a beating even through the steroid era. You didn't see this. Collective anger aimed at one group of players. The way we've seen other players so angry with the Houston Astros. They're angry at the Astros. And they're also angry at commissioner rob Manfred who stepped in it. I think it's fair to say on Sunday at his first press conference of Spring Training when he said the idea of an asterisk or asking for a piece of metal back seems a futile act. Justin Turner on the dodgers was not pleased. You know calling the world series trophy piece of metal. I mean I don't know if there's ever won anything in his life. Maybe he hasn't but the reason every guys in this room the reason every guy is working out all off season and showing up to camp early and putting it all the time. Effort is specifically for that trophy. I think we're used to seeing the likes of this directed towards the NFL. Commissioner Roger Goodell but before now Manfred laid pretty low. How has he generally been perceived by the players in the past well? There's no doubt that generally speaking that the relationship between players and Major League baseball is at its worst. I think in like twenty five years. You know what happened in the last time. The CBA was negotiated. Was the owners absolutely routed? The players in those talks getting a lot of advantages financial advantages taking a lot of the high ground that the players had owned the past and the last couple of years. We've seen that play out. In Free Agency. In veteran players have felt like that when they reach free agency. They're not getting as much money as they should have. So that's sort of been percolating the last couple of years and then when you have robbed make the comments that he he. He's made about the Astros in his handling of that case I think all that anger and it was built upon so he made the comment at the beginning of the week. What is he said since then? Well he acknowledged. He met with reporters on Tuesday night that he was mistaken in what he said. I referred to the World Series Trophy in a disrespectful way. And I want to apologize for that. There's no excuse for it I made a mistake. I was trying to make a point but I should have made it in a more effective way and again I want to apologize for it. Actually think that this was an important first step because he's made a lot of mistakes in this like the fact that in two thousand seventeen when you had the apple watch situation between the RED SOX and Yankees. He missed an opportunity at that time to draw a line in the sand to make it clear to everybody. Look Science. Stealing using electronics is not going to be accepted. He didn't do it in seventeen he didn't do it in eighteen. And let's face it when you listen to the players. Their anger over the fact that members the Astra's weren't disciplined that's viewed as another mistake. So I thought it was important for rob finally to acknowledge that. He's made mistakes. During this process. The players seem to have a problem with the fact that the astros players were given immunity a couple of days ago. Mike Trout said I don't agree with the the punishments you know the players not You know getting anything you know. There was a player driven You know thing cheat like that and not get anything it's it's It's sad to see which is remarkable buster because it's probably the most interesting thing might drive as every said about something other than the weather but it seems to be the way a lot of players feel why didn't Manfred punish them. Rob was in a position where this is not like the AA where you know the the head of the lake and come in and basically threaten players into cooperation. Major League baseball players are represented by the Union and so as they began this negotiation if they had simply gone in and told the players. Look we're coming you get the information. It would have been easy for the players to lawyer up and for a lot of the answers to Major League baseball to be along the lines of. I don't recall or I didn't hear that banging of the trash can and there's not really any way to challenge that and it would have been much more difficult for them to establish information if you remember fourteen years ago. George Mitchell was commissioned by Bud Selig to investigate the steroid era. He had no cooperation with the players because of the position of the Union. And I think that Manfred may have had the same situation if he hadn't given the players immunity. I think one thing to baseball looked at was boy we have litigation arbitration playing over the whole summer. At least this is one way to get to the truth quickly. Established what happened and try to put this in a rear view mirror. That clearly has not been as simple as they as they anticipated. Manfred has suggested that the players could have filed grievances because the Astros General Manager never sent along the rules. And I put the clubs on notice as to what exactly the rules were and how they were going to be treated going forward among the other failures of that organization. That information never made its way to the players. I was awesome. Well they just didn't do it. If we had disciplined the players in all likelihood we were GONNA have grievances and grievances that we were going to lose on the basis that we never properly inform them the rule so given those two. That's exactly right and that's sort of a classic thing because if you remember when Aj hinch the Astros manager did his interview with. Tom Produce one of the questions asked him was. Did Jeff Luneau tell you about this memo and Aj's answered very initially. No HE DIDN'T. The players could have done the same thing. Now you and I know from a point of view of common sense. That's kind of absurd because when the red sox apple watch thing happened in September two thousand seventeen that was out there like it was very public in disgust. That rob Manfred had come down with discipline and in warned. Everybody don't participate in this but again we're into lawyer speak now where well was they actually told specifically that. I wasn't allowed to do a B and C. No I wasn't I don't recall and would have been a morass rob's been commissioner now for five years buster. Is there any chance. He doesn't survive this no he. He's totally fine because of how much money they're making. I mentioned the two thousand sixteen collective bargaining agreement. How they were such an advantageous position when it comes to things like the luxury tax and they're making money hand over fist and for that reason he's fine. When people think about the commissioner I think casual fans will look at them as being the representative of the sport and representing the interests of fans and players and teams know. He's a team employee. He works for the owners and he's been doing a great job at making the owners a lot of money. He's on very solid ground
Houston Astros sign stealing scandal: Carlos Beltrán had a 'sway over the clubhouse'
"AJ. Hinch had a recent interview with the MLB network. He did not make any excuses for failure to prevent the answers legal practices. But what he mentioned that Carlos Beltran's sway over the clubhouse. Help explain the inaction of hinch and other coaches and players. No one wanted to challenge Carlos. Beltran what you're the manager of a baseball team. You're supposed to be the top guy in in that clubhouse how were you challenged threatened by Carlos Beltran at all? How now of course? I've never played major league baseball so I don't know what the actual clubhouse dynamic is there. I know teams want veteran presence in their for their experience and to help young guys through through their problems and some issues that they go through. Because hey happens to us ever happens to everybody in the league happens to everybody like I mentioned. Some players mentioned there in their first year. They didn't want to challenge veteran. They didn't want to go against the status quo or the status quo that they thought was in place because they were just there's rookie. They didn't know any any better. Was that excuse can only go for so long but you know what? I'm saying
Report: Astros' sign-stealing scheme began with front office 'Codebreaker' program
"Jeff Passan is an mlb the insider for ESPN. He's in West Palm Beach at the Astros Spring Training Facility. I keep thinking we're done talking about the Astros and then this story he keeps roaring right on back so the latest is we have. Aj hinch the former manager making his first public statement than jared diamond of the Wall Street Journal Final published a story with evidence that the Houston Front office laid the groundwork for some cheating with a system called code breaker. Can you bring us up to date date on us. Major League Baseball would love it. If this story went away in the Houston Astros would love it if this story went away and yet this onion with seemingly endless layers we'll start with the codebreakers story and the fact that we're talking about a baseball team and they have a system in place called code breaker in that one of their front office officials was referring ferring to it in emails as their dark arts. That helped win them a championship. Shows you just how deep the nefarious -ness of the the astros went the way it worked was they would have people in put signs and signed sequences this is into an excel spreadsheet and that excel spreadsheet would use an algorithm to spit out what the pitches were going to be. There's a lot to unpack here but I'll start here. I keep hearing that. These are the smartest guys in baseball. The Astros in particular right are geniuses it is and yet they called their scheme code breaker and put it in an email. I I don't even we know what to say other than you know in one of the early episodes of ESPN daily. We talked about the Astros. And and in that episode I remember pretty distinctly using a word Hubris when we look back on this astros team. Five of ten twenty years from now I think Hubris is ultimately going to be the defining characteristic of this team. The other thing that sort of moves the story forward so far as when the initial punishment came down Jeff often rob Manfred statement came out he seemed to put most of the blame. If not all of it really on the players now. We're here in the front office. They were up to their own. Misdeeds is that going to expand the punishment now and that's the curious part of this right the notion that at the front office which is still there is totally clean in this. It just doesn't hold a lot of water. Which is why the report that it came out in the Wall Street Journal was so damning because it name names it referred to a five page letter that Rob Manfred had sent to Jeff Luna that laid out his his case for Luna being involved in this now Luna still denies all of this? He said I would get these emails but I would just read the first page if you are essentially the CEO of baseball operations in an organization. Is it not your duty to read through emails. That people on your we're team or sending you particularly ones that might include references to these dark arts to these championship winning endeavors that you as the CEO either green lit or too incompetent to know we're going on. I would like to not be on the record for judging someone for not reading a very very long email right now you. You don't finish emails. I always read every long. Email my colleagues because you are the CEO Oh of ESPN daily and you know it would be wrong to do otherwise when you guys are figuring out the dark arts of casting hopefully code breaking going on over here at the same time as this Wall Street Journal story comes out. Aj hinch is being interviewed. And he was directly. Asked Jeff about whether whether players had buzzers under their jerseys to alert them to whether pitches becoming. Can you assure us there were no buzzers or anything like that. Being investigated the gated for three months. And the Commissioner's Office did as thorough investigation as anyone could imagine was possible you know. He mentioned the emails the text messages and I believe him. What did you make of his comments? All you have to do is just saying no. And the fact that he didn't come out and say no I think said a lot and is only fueling the fire here. I have been hearing for for upward of two years now about what one source called a pitch picking Algorithm. And that's exactly what code. Code Breaker was in so these little snippets. That I've been hearing whispers about but I try to track down and confirm every single single one of them. I mean every single one of them has become true. The only one at this point that has not been confirmed is being real is the buzzers.
A.J. Hinch’s take on A’s Mike Fiers exposing Astros’ sign-stealing
"Well for the first time since the sign stealing scandal broke AJ Hinch is talking publicly in an interview with MLB network former Houston Astros manager A. J. hinted midi could have done more to stop the sign stealing scheme that took place under his watch ultimately leading to his year long suspension and then dismissal from the Stroh's and an initiator didn't endorse it but I but I was the manager and I think there's a responsibility when you're in a position to end it engine manager breaking monitors used to help relay signals on two separate occasions when asked if he had any regrets I should have had a more forceful interaction at the at the at the appropriate time in chatting the understands why now some view the Astros twenty seventeen World Series win as
Did cheating help Astros win World Series? Hinch says we may never know
"Aj hinch and the interview. He did finally breaking his silence of the disgraced astros manager who was fired in the wake of the breaking story in major league. Next glad you said that the ask the disgraced astros manager he was not. There's nothing else to call him. He's a disgrace Astros manager He was caught up up in the science. Dealing Scandal of the Astros didn't do enough to stop it and the first thing rob Manfred did was announced his suspension for Major League Baseball and then a couple allows later. The Astros fired him. You mentioned the interview he did. It's going to air tonight. And he was asked. Does this championship that you wanted. Twenty Lee seventeen. Is it tainted by this new scandal. Unfortunately we open that door as a group in that question I may never be answered. We may never know we're going to have to live and move forward and be be better better in the sport but unfortunately no one can really answer. Threw that question. I I can't pinpoint what advantages or what what happened. Or what. Exactly what happened otherwise but we did it to ourselves. Okay wait I can answer. It had had a lot to do. Look at the home road. Splits of all your headers like Jose Altuve. Have you see our relay race. Home and road splits dislike. It's like four twenty at home one twenty on the road and you remember if correctly that was when they remember lost the Games in New York to the Yankees remember the laws and then at home the they won all games. I mean it was an if I'm a dodger fan. I'm salty as well 2017. MLB CHAMPION DOC. There are two parades coming twenty seventeen and twenty eighteen and then back to back. Alex Cora takes that same show on the road and same thing. I I asked we. We know of this movie Bets trae goes through. You know as as Alex Cora cheated to be named later. Is that a part of the look at you know. I think that was the penalty. Not was the red sox train. mookie Betts to the padres and they said No. No you gotta make amends and trading with the dodgers all right shoulder dodger you owe the dodgers at Aj Aj hinch clearly is in that mode all of us do this in our lives. Whenever something bad happens did the interview though he could he could run and hide for year and not be heard from? I think it's better when you get out in front of it. But is he getting out in front of my saying. I don't know what kind of impact this had. Clearly when you're batters know what's it's coming. It's a lot easier when you go to that length of we're putting in electronic sign stealing system and you play the. I'm only the manager card. I couldn't stop this. No one believes please. You know either. The point where he's at the point in his life and all of us do this right when something happens in our lives. It's bad that we're responsible for. What do we try to do at some point? We try rationalize why it happened. And it's not really our fault. Aj hinch is at this point where who knows what he's GonNa do in baseball again. He's going to manage again. Maybe a couple years somewhere where. I'm not quite sure that he's at that point. where I need to reconcile with myself because I am a world series champion and I'm not going to walk around every day going it was tainted? So I'm I'm GonNa convince myself that I don't know what kind of impact this had altuve as still had to hit the baseball even though he knew what was the old PD argument. So He's in that point of denial. where I'm going is still WANNA walk around and not just feel crappy every day that we won and we won by cheating? So I'm GonNa convince myself that I don't know what we we did. Any act on the game only problem is I get it if you told me that one every game at home then win every game at home even with the cheating scandal. Whoa with knowing what's coming? So that's the part that makes it hard that's why you can't go automatically and say well we should just turn championship over to the dodgers not that the dodgers. aww their fans would want it that way but they didn't win every game using that cheating system so okay so they won three quarters of their. But I'm just saying when eighty percent of they're games that that's the only reason and this could have It doesn't mean that Wa. The team couldn't have beaten them at some point. All I'm saying is I get it cheating. Cheating it helps them. I'm not denying that but it's a reason why you can't take the championship and I don't think that that will work for majorly based on you can easily take like the championship. And you can not awarded to anybody. Say No year but Rob Manfred and look rob Manfred and Adam. Silver are two of the new age commissioners which they they WANNA do nothing they want to do nothing but in grow the game and have great reputations right Adam silver wants to do a little bit less than Rob Manfred but rob Manfred I guarantee aren t you. He thought I'm taking care of this. Here's a suspension for hinch. Here's bench for Jeff Luna. I'm taking care of it and instead what happened. Was it mushroomed out of control to the point. Where an hour an hour after this broke? What was the biggest topic online? Put Pete Rose in the hall of fame. 'cause you're not taking care cheaters enough. This got completely out of control because Manfred doesn't WanNa be the guy where the first line of his wikipedia pages rob Manfred who presided over. MLB taking a world series away from a team for the first time Blah Blah Blah. Aw that would be his legacy. He wasn't going to do it he wasn't going to be the guy to say you're going to look back at my my rain and it's GonNa be pace of play but mainly it's going to be. He took look world series away. He presided over a dark time in major league baseball. He wasn't going to be that guy. I'm not gonNA wear it so I'm GonNa have this suspension and then whatever happens after it gets out of my control and I don't care that's why he didn't do anything. Yeah I I just I never been into it. Even college used to do it and the Olympics and taken away medals and stuff that we watched watched to tell me that Reggie Bush wasn't the heisman trophy winner. You know you could tell me that all you want but I watched that season. Do you know what I mean. So I'm not fully the Internet. I don't think that changes anything. That doesn't take their memory away from me. I think you've just got a penalize the organization but I I'm not into taking championships
Did cheating help Astros win World Series? Hinch says we may never know
"Former Houston Astros manager. Aj hinch is set to speak out. After a cheating scandal hinch was manager during the Astros use of electronic equipment to steal science major league. Baseball suspended general manager. Jeff Liu now and hinge for a year and team owner. Jim Crane quickly fired the pair after the punishment announcement in an interview review with MLB network out Friday night hinch defense has players talents but also admits that the team put itself in a position where it's 2017 world series title. Maybe Blemished League Commissioner Rob Manfred said Hinch did not support the player driven cheating but he also said that hinch did not actively disapprove of it. Either you can tune tune into the interview at six. PM EASTERN ON MLB
Dusty Baker hired to manage the Astros
"Bob Nightingale of USA Today is reporting that the Houston Astros going to choose dusty Baker the longtime major league manager to manage. Houston that J.. Hinch was fired in the wake of the cheating scandal. The Astros have probably been the most analytically committed team in baseball. This report is true. What do you think of this higher? We'll Tony I'm not surprised. Christ by the higher I told you come to be downing Houston dusty. Baker was going to get this job and the Houston Astros have a lot of stuff take care of and one of them is sort of whether they want to acknowledge it or not getting back in the good graces of baseball dusty Baker is not some analytics nerd. Who wants to win win at all costs and has no conscience dusty? Baker played baseball managed baseball. He doesn't need the Houston. Astros would be great if he can win you the whole thing. But the Houston Astros in a bill. In in the in the need to rehabilitate themselves in their franchise reputation they need dusty baker and dusty Baker. It was the man for this job the moment somebody got to him and said dusty. Are you interested so as you know I like. I think he's a major league manager and I was upset when the national said. We're done with you but I can't be too critical because they're so wonder world series but here's what dusty Baker is he's a player's guy. He's my wii age so he's seen a lot of baseball. The Astros are going to be booed everywhere they go. I believe opposing Pitcher is gonNA throw with players. I believe what they need. Most of the manager is someone who is relentless positive Iraq relentlessly positive dusty dusty Baker is. It's not it's not that I think that tactically. He's the right choice is that I think emotionally. He's the right choice. 'cause I don't I think Houston is going to withdraw. The players. Get into shell dust. They say they're not well. Then it started yet. It hasn't started yet. I Love Day are a study. I mean there's usually bear watching as so really good team. They are and what what they needed to manage. A now is just keep the train on the track. You know we can do this as a radically different approach and lead I like it for VAT on field group. Think this will work. I do I again. He's a very positive and they're gonNA feel attacked on all sides. You're so by the way I'm glad he's getting this chick.
"hinch" Discussed on The Short Porch
"So it's the gap down that first time porch ten dollars off can't beat that at all. Aj hinch statement. Now he's trying to say that yeah. He knew what was going on their reports that he broke monitors because he was so against what was going on. I've had enough of this. I'm going to break them. Honor what the manager the team. You could easily stopped it. You went through these smut press conferences. You ruined lives. Baseball careers were ruined. Because the Astros did this. That's part of why Mike Fires was so against all this and the whistle blower because he felt bad he was seeing other young players coming up who grind to get this moment and then they will get absolutely destroyed by Astro. Said is because they knew a pitchers coming. You were behind all that. Don't I'll try and play this ship and the car that like. Oh I actually have felt bad for people and all this I tried to break Meyerson Nano no no no. No you're SMUG asshole. You deserve this punishment deserved rotten. Hell no was fucking hate. Aj hinch so much that guy would you say oh. Let's get to the bigger. You're part of this outscore. We haven't talked about excoriate alice core was the ringleader. It says to even think like hire someone. Oh you should know that when you're interviewing someone like you know to cheat look to you know I know there are like the punishment wasn't because anything he did with the Red Sox but to think that he was the ringleader of this in two thousand seventeen player driven except for core right that he was like Porta mastermind behind it won the world series and then becomes the manager under the red sox where he's fully calling all the shots they went one hundred eight games and a world series to think. Maybe you know something's especially but you put fucking two. You went to together. Speculate May non-speculative puckish. Maybe there are some shady dealings going quite possible. But he's stomach. The Earth I was I like a week ago. This found sounds very what's Davey but I said out loud the last couple days but I heard a week ago that he was getting three years and I to that person who texted me. I'll laughed in their face and said at least make it up. Make make closer year. If you're going to like you know guess this turns out might just be three years. Might be a lifetime Ben even worse than three years so he was behind everything and I think made you. Baseball's pissed off that it continued in some aspect in Boston and they were just like yeah. You're a double violator here. And you are the ringleader here. Yeah no shit. You're GonNa get the worst penalty possible here and the red sox getting punished for it and it's fantastic so I actually read this morning. What it was some nice stuff? Yeah yeah I read it last night and you're trying to become okay a little bit of Literate Shit That didn't work out well but I was reading some stuff stuff. Everyone's like oh this really does suck. He's such a good guy like he comes into these locker rooms and all the players love him. Yeah no fucking Shit. He's cheating for him. Yeah he's he's the one from a to seventy hitter fucking three. He's telling me to. I would love to. Yeah he's telling you WANNA fastballs come on his slider. Obviously he's a great Players coach you fucking morons. You have to be an asshole to be red SOx fan saying this sucks. I mean. He's a fucking cheater socks all. Yeah because they're also should have known that he was a cheater tell who's a cheetah right away. It's just embarrassing. No one liked the Yankees. It's just we're class. I mean age a We'll just class. It's all I got the nerve on this motherfucker to when they shelled Severino and he says that Equality Star and all that like the biggest fucking yes exactly and people are like all hubs your video that you tweeted is going to come back to get you and all that I don't see I don't see that happening like you're not firing anyone. The Yankees core got fire because of the Astros hits the Astros. That's not gonNA happen the Yankees I need to compliment you ever but your shoulders moved pretty well in rhythm. Everyone bites the dust video. Oh talking to you. The hips gyn. You're on crack and all that so I need them so the first time I watched the video I hadn't have sound on and I was like. Oh this could be bad but then to the music. It wasn't bad I'll give you that. It was a good timely video and I like you come in to scream like would you like such a weasel. It was perfect. We're GONNA die. I is a little excessive. You always. You're a die of big wish. I'm deathly yeah like I'm usually like three weeks with the mumps. Then then the measles held die similar implications worse. Because you're saying the dies going to hell Iraq there for eternity hinch. Hell passes making the video. My roommate walked in I just it was just like what's going on Eddie as the flu. It's disaster so yeah I'm pumped a chorus gone and people Dave Dave is very his really care about this he. He's still along with the Patriots. I think the Patriots still number one for him and he seems to think that the manager in baseball isn't that's not going to change much like they'll just find a new guy in a win. I think that's wrong. I think the city of Boston loved outscore. Like this is GonNa crop. US is is very very upset. That's good yeah I mean fantastic. So where do you. We're debating this. Where do you think? Baseball manager sits in importance of coaches in all sports. So we'll go hockey. Allow much much of a hockey hockey. They're firing everyone know what's up with that. Vegas nicest fired their coach today. I know baseball podcast. But they're just everyone's getting fired that devils fired everybody. Jeez I don't know what's happening there. Okay hockey I don't have we say football coach by for like Yeah Light Years Ahead. Because they're the handed strategy based on basketball or close. That was the real debate and I think it's still basketball over that because there's so many plays and you have to do it but it's also like if you have star players like I was Dave's argument Frankie's argument Brian Basketball's last. I mean they'll do shit yet but I mean you could say a baseball manager. I mean they all the analytics I think baseball like just pl- knowing the gay like there's so much behind the scenes stuff that people have no idea about about baseball basketball basketball's this like hey give the ball of fucking Lebron give it to yawn. That's all I have to do baseball. They they have to archers there are please plays yes domes. My argument for nothing a basement which is the most important is because like new wave analytics. Where like they have a team tells them? And what's the right move next. Like for most managed affect the power of the manager is the lowest. It's ever been in terms of what you can do in a game. It's still important from the rally. The troops and booed was so. Oh good at that last year like keeping everyone's spirits up and you have team chemistry. That's all huge manager but in terms of like platelet pitching change all that I feel like it's all orchestrated by the Alex team. Yeah with the Yankees. At least that's the story out there. I think baseball manager is most important thing is sort of like being almost like a guidance. Literally just being a friend in the right making sure everyone is like feeling good makes her locker room vibes or good being like We've said for the White House press secretary where you're the one that goes answers. I like other people's decisions basically to the media So I it's it's diff- but then you can say a basketball coach. Also ask the massage egos of like NBA superstar. So I still think baseball's more just like like they're obviously baseball. Seems there's giving out the lineup card and then it's obvious when the pitcher's doing bad take him out but there's behind the scenes of pitching like a pitching matchups happening like lefties coming in lefties in the lineup. A bunch of Shit is always this little tedious shit. That and Cora was core was pretty solid that he won't be anymore. He won't be sucks managers. It's beautiful and who they're going to hire. Jason Varitek are attack or whoever is going to be all core in that clubhouse will be they worked. It'd be good anyways next year with you. Know they're they're setup. They refused to get another excuses to dump right. That's that's what I think. He Abraham said they'd like yeah they should just fucking train everyone now and they want him excuse because like yeah. This sucks this star in such trash. I don't know where four and five is. I mean it's sale price Eddie Donahue forefathers of all the his glove is so fucking big I hate that mother fucker things way too big man. You can't be a pitcher truth. That big it's going to be evolved in. Has You judge people on gloves size. Yes okay pitchers have to have small clubs. Okay I'm the only could be more like intimidating to hide the Baltic Take Peta Hill always all lodges all the rich because he puts his elbow in like this to me. Looks like such a the way he the way he doesn't play off. Mantos does a hundred miles an hour. I'm calling pussy. Cause he's amazing Some of the best stuff that. Come out of this Cora his old tweets are so fucking walking. Funny Funny to laugh and I'm not funny to laugh with them In two thousand thirteen he said if you're catcher gives only one sign with a runner. At second bad things will happen happened bad in all caps. I mean that is yeah so perfect Twenty sixteen stealing signs relaying signs getting signs. Not that easy. That is unbelievable. At that the time it was what was the date twenty. Sixteen at the time it was probably true and then he was like Oh wait we gotta salute wait. We just bang a trash rescue crews probably like up all night like man fucking his heart fucking relay signs and shit and then twenty seventeen. He came around found the picture like watching a movie and he he says L. Loud and then all of a sudden dramatic musical background and it's like a time lapse and it's him just bang a trash can like buzzers and all this. It's him and he wakes up in the morning. Goes I figured out how to cheat. Base spoke unbelievable and then one other thing he was asked why he admitted to make the mistake. Sunday this is from Lou Maroni tweet and he said because they asked my players. It's to be honest and responsible so I have to be as well I love. I love his twitter. He's such a five minutes. "Can you say they signed PA- Lucky fire their coach. Fuck you red sox you fucking loses and Astros. You're loses loses Yankees. I'm so happy we're clean and we're better than everybody there so set for the next like you know it's funny. So here's what the bring it all back. Even if like. What are they going to do the Yankees if they find a little bit something calls Beltran is the manager of the mets? I guess if it was twenty eighteen then you have more reprecussions because it will involve boone but the two thousand seventeen gone but my core wasn't fired from the Red Sox for what he did with the with the With the Red Sox he fired with yes well. Usually part of lease ups actually fired. Nobody official report was they mutually early part ways because that was fired him yet they fire Cora and then he was pleased to say mutual ways. You can't fire them right now for because no no penalties been too right. So it's twice mutually like you could fire them. No I know it's like why would you fire them right right right. Yeah that's why I'm usually agree. So get more into it hinch and low now where suspended than fire and then the the statements these fucking the Era Ghent assholes put out. Were unbelievable. The first one is Lou now the GM he said he takes full responsibility for everything but he's not a cheater. So what does that mean. What are we talking about what are you what do you mean you to force? We love bigger. It's just so regis like you like you cheat on your girlfriend. Yeah I I. I'll accept the rumors but I didn't do. It might've fucked up but I'll accept them. What are you talking about? Man fucking moron. Yeah I think maybe what he's trying to say is like it's my responsibility because I oversee the team but like I'm not the one who installed the fucking cameras. Maybe it's your you were part of the general manager. Brian Cashman with everything. That's going on that team. It's like right. Jim didn't know and it just shows the report like it was all player run by. Aj hinch but with the exception court think that Aj hinch and Lonzo and maybe up to Jim Crane like yeah. He literally like Akito. He was being the bigger man situation taking all the blame but also throwing everyone on the bus. It wasn't if you're GONNA do an apology for anything in life. Just accept all the fucking blame like once you start being like you know. I'm sorry but that's unlikely. I've learned that the hardest way with the fucking Mesquite thing now the worst Oh so hey. How're you doing one? I'm seeing a little. I'm fantastic into doctors today. I got a check up fucking leaves out on the show news on the show. I got blood work. I haven't been in six years. I well I got to go got health. This isn't cool. No it's really not if nothing if no one tells me something's wrong nothing's wrong so here's why I really went. I one day I the perfect person I know. At least I know it i. I've had perfect questrom. Eat like absolute dog shit so I kinda just want to hear it again that I've perfect cholesterol and just laughing everyone's face that's like twenty six. Yeah like the way. I ain't problem the way. My sister said high cholesterol flake five years. She's like twenty three twenty two years just the worst terrible person. Yes so one of the doctor. I have the exact opposite of you can pay at all times. It took me twenty-five campeador times. Do I took me twenty five minutes to Penacook not any time too. I just couldn't go because I want before. I heard them talking outside the door. Like yeah he went in there. Maybe left or something. Like Gosh it. I'm just like they're like I need to get to work like I need to just eventually whatever because you don't want to you got to stop. Up Yeah and it's so the command. Maybe not one of my talents. I I wish I just don't pee before and like you know you have to go and then but I I get stage fright sometimes sometimes so yeah so whatever we'll find. I think the results come back like Friday. Whenever we'll see what have we will read them live on on the short course? It'd be a lot of fun for me. I'm sure the biggest news obviously really cool. If you had like a disease that like we knew like gave you exactly like eight months to live. There'll be like we just ride out like the whole season knowing that like you're going to diet the the Yankees have to win for right and like the podcast go so up. And then meantime you've just take over and die. Maybe like the day before game seven. Every time I come come on. It's like it's always morbid and it's like well if hubs dies for the Yankees here then emotion communist take the show to new limits. What you WANNA win? Yeah I mean if you told me I could go out that way and November is like the day like like November the day after the parade. Now it's I can't enjoy the day they win. The world discuss this. They're going to carry your ashes in an urn on the parade flow right. Well that's all right. That's that's cool. You get to go out you die going going out the night they win the world series. No guys the morning of couse or like in the seventh inning of the the Attorney General. Did that would be so mean if it was game seven. They were down five in like the seventh inning. And I died and I got the locker room. Maybe you die at the stadium. Healing void finds out and he tells guy let's we gotta we gotta windows one for by the way boy voice work. Did you see that. He's a fucking Tuck in hamlet. Fuck is he doing. These should exchange routines me. Voy Cressey is probably going to be like all right. Let's let's relaxed like laughter. Saying it's like when you have so much muscle kind of an issue and it's funny thing earlier in the day him and talk and we're going at each other instagram because talking positively custody of him running and avoids they got put some meat on those bones. Whatever and he goes now and I gotTa Keep Forum? I can't be running like you and then just put those are looks like it's the size of this fucking table Apple Goddamn elephant guy. I can't wait for baseball but would you have big news. Finally we've been talking about the Astros for so long investigation. The Red Sox getting involved all that the MLB came down their punishments are here. They're not the craziest thing in the world. That's kind of what we expected because they can only do so much but Aj hinch that rat fucking scumbag suit so this muggy smokey's purchase smug used the word. Whatever smokey's personnel gets the world most smug so one of the worst people ever exist J.? Hinch God no chance at smuggles snuggie. No I think it's I think it'd be most smaller guest's now smuggled I mean he's the one on the computer rigging rigging Goddamn fucking rutgers. Rutgers Education Show Jj Hinson suspended Jeff Jeff Luna the GM. He suspended for a year. The Astros like an hour later Jim creams like what they're just fired. There's a conspiracy which I think it's kind of true that major league baseball rob Manfred told crane. Hey to save face as we're all GONNA suspend them a year and you're just gonNA come over and fire them otherwise we'd just lifetime ban no and make make a look where she at least it looks like you have some sort of control with the organization and we're going to say that you didn't know anything was going on all that little conspiracy owners and the commissioner. Obviously you know they worked together so you know what fuck over the owner. So that's that's a conspiracy there but they're gone. Aj Hinch I. Don't they ever get a job again. Do you jog again. I don't I can't I don't think I mean how may get a front office role in like a low position just like advisor. Actually no I just can't see Jersey no reason to push it. Yeah I agree on top of it. Five Dr Find who gives a fuck of. You're finding a baseball team unless it's the razor athletics who can't Dr Soda Machines during the season and they need every dollar they can. But I don't need Astros Five Kim and that's the maximum. They made it clear. You cannot find a team any more than that but what I would have done is doc their international signing bonus. Money just have no John Is. That's where the Yankees drive now. It's like yeah. They make a draft picks here and they're still but they're they're Dominican Republic. Signings are Jason biggest best best player the history of sports and they got hit the Marino. Gary Yeah the list goes on and on and on of Kashmir's doing he doesn't really focus on a draft or they definitely focus draft but he is very in tune with the Dominican signings. And getting the you know. He always makes many trades during the year. Like why did you that so we got international signing bonus money and its stockpile stockpiles. I would have just taken that away from the Astros that I think would actually have hurt won the fine. That does nothing to me I would I would have done. I would've fucked with their luxury tax like lower all their luxury tax threat threshold so like the punishment that you know a team gets two hundred million they get one hundred twenty payrolls. Oh Yeah you're right you have to cut payroll or pay huge luxury tax fund high finest five million Team yet the fuck design. What is that too? That's literally twenty dollars else with them. Unless you're like the raise as in the US is very poor. Yeah I didn't get that. And then they also docked first and second pick next two years which I five round pick six five five years something drastic but that will hurt because first and second round picks like that's pretty much how they stay built this team in the first place. They just finished last every year and they got the number pick for five years and eventually turned into springer and Bregman in Korea. And all these guys so trash trash bags but so yeah is. Is it enough. No should they kate title for sure if they had any integrity that give back their rings and all that But I think the stench this is what I I was saying punishments whatever. I'm glad edgy hitches out of baseball guys fucked blows but for early SMUG fucking. Oh my Gosh Kim Sang. It's it's a joke. He's laughing at people the whistling and all that you just did it all it was. You were hiding in plain sight but I think the stench of cheating like Alex Bregman to me can't brag about being a world series champion if it's only that world series to me on this. I kind of be okay if we cheated in one. I don't think it's right. I think it's like it's sad for baseball classics. We wouldn't do that but if you already did. Not on anyone in the MOLENAAR. Dario always have those memories of like that. But it's annoying for like I like to look back. It's like everyone says saying strikes. You don't want that world series you want like whatever ever A. We've we were the best especially when it's the Yankees and everyone hates the come out. The Way I explained on on k when the punishments came out is that Teams like the mets. The Astros the time had one you know like those teams are desperate that sheet this way and those fans to me. Okay if she all you want all that pop up all the I don't really fucking bother me too much but It's the I don't if you're that type of fan shirt you want to do whatever you can to win but the Yankees. They're you're fucking world series favorite every single year. They don't need to do to this extent now like we'll get into later. We're like the allegation. Yankees wouldn't shock me if they come came out and they do it because I'm sure they're everyone's pointing fingers like the Red Sox always doing like. Oh we did it but they definitely did a two. I could see something like the Yankees defined a little bit of money because because they use the video room illegally. One time you know a few times but there's no hickeys anything. The Astros did as I don't get why like jared like sailing. Just wait for the Yankees Yankees. You don't think they'd come after the Yankees versus people after because they know the Astros and red sox are. NOBODY'S A fucking bigger headline than the skis. Yes it's it's like way harder and faster if they could get out in front of the Yankees the Yankees on a team that they would like push the side and ignore like be like take the number one team. It's just I think saying to me. I mean there's a part of me that's very much afraid. The other shoes drop because this has been the most unbelievable off-season can you get Garrett. Cole.

But these these guys are getting younger and speaking of young guys, we had Alex bregman here in studio during the fall last year. I he's just he's just awesome. That kid is really something else. I mean is he is he just keep the locker room light? I mean, what, what is his role on this tiny? He's, he's, he's a brash bowl bravado. Every every word you can think of about that Machiko that comes with, with great players. But he he's, he's got he's got some kind of baseball acumen. And and he loves baseball upset this before on interviews. I've never met someone who loves baseball as much as Alex bregman. And I I've been around a lot of baseball people in my life. And it's he's got some youthfulness to him yet. He's got a mature approach when it comes to prepare into eating in the batter's box. He's, you know, we're down nine to one last night. I took him out of the game in the eighth inning to give him a couple of innings off and some kind of pissed off at me. So I took an it bad away from him. So it I, I love the guy. He's, he's easy to manage, because you can push them in and you can coach them hard and, and get on. Them and, and he's gonna respond favorably, and I'll forever be grateful. That, that our careers path crew pets have crossed because he's, he's one of a kind. Well, I guess, AJ Hinch, actress manager here on the rich Eisen show on the list of people that you would have to tell the slowdown and I never thought Carlos careers masseuse would have to be that person. But is that what happened? I mean what with Carlos. And it's easy to to, you know, kinda doubt Carlos and and assume that that can't happen because I am similar to you. I've never heard that before I even think that I'm going to my next massage get one. I it's not something I ever even thought was possible when he he texted me and our trainer when, when it happened in the morning of a at giving him the day off on a Monday. And then Tuesday had written lineup. He's gonna play and I get a text mid afternoon that, that something gone wrong. We got him checked out by doctors, and he came back with, with a fractured rib. "Aj hinch and then his his success has sort of made given him the validation he needs to to sort of go forward doing the same things now imitation obviously is the greatest form of flattery so to your point you just made like is this the new norm i mean like we're like there's a new common thread of just do you know the game not necessarily have you the whole aspect of paying your dues as now out the window i think it's it's possible that this will become more normal whether it's the norm or not remains to be seen but i do think that there is a there's definitely a trend in baseball that managers need to be at least conversant in things that normally were the domain of the front office the analytics and different statistical things and just that that merging of those two is is very apparent even though dave roberts kind of had the the coaching experience before he ended up in in in los angeles his his role is very similar to inches and you know the the the dodgers have very strong input from the front office from from andrew friedman and far hands eighty that they're both i spent a lot of time with them last year and those two guys were in his office almost every game before and after and so i think there's a lot of there's a lot of that going on where there's this this understanding that that managers had get away with just you know having the center fielder lead off in the second basement hit second you know i mean there's gotta be some there's gotta be some understanding of what guys can do and how they fit in and you know it's obviously extended to to pitching and and times through the lineup all those things have become something that that front offices expect managers to know.

"But in those seconds between shallow center field in the mound springer's mind flashback to the speech hinch gave the astros in spring training of two thousand fifteen his first year as manager hinch taken over a young team in peak growing season with burgeoning talent but three one hundred loss seasons in its past four springer was about to start his first full season jose altuve was a star carlos correa was raking his way through the minors and one of henches first questions after getting the job was why isn't anybody around here talking about winning he asked it with a mystified tone to everyone in the front office and then standing before his players before they'd played a game for him he said we're not doing this just to get better we're doing this to win the talent in this room is good enough to win right now and it's not okay to be mediocre anymore watching his manager run onto the field arms raised in inhibitions flung aside springer thought here we are winning the smile sealed it hinch would get the baseball springer got the ball authenticated and found in his wife erin he handed hinch the ball and hugged him before turning to aaron make sure they don't take this ball from him springer told her and knowing his managers personality springer foot felt obligated to deliver an additional instruction and make sure he doesn't give it to somebody else he deserves this throughout the history of baseball there's always been a defined protocol to becoming a big league manager i he is a player often of undistinguished talent but excessively visible to nasty he becomes a manager in the low minors and partying hard won wisdom along the two lane state routes of america from there he builds a resume is forward putting a foot on one rung while hovering over the next the years past the jobs improve aaa manager big league hitting coach bigleague bench coach and then finally chance these rules have been the games catechism in two thousand nine at the age of thirty four hinch became an unwitting disruptor he was the diamondbacks director of player development when the team's general manager josh byrnes offered him a managing job hinch who had never coached or managed at any level thought he.

"George springer had snagged thousands of baseball's out of the air through his twenty eight years most without a thought but he had never caught one that possess such power catching this ball a lazy unambitious sigh off the bat of the yankees greg bird required conscious effort as soon as it landed in springer's glove ending the american league championship series the calculus changed now what to do with it he jammed it into his pocket and started to run toward the pitcher's mound where everyone associated with the astros was about to me but this baseball bouncing with every step was the heaviest five and a quarter announces he could ever imagine this baseball carried responsibility it was tempting but hubristic to keep it for himself it would be cool to have but what had he done to deserve it chance had sent the ball his way not fate he one of twenty five had simply caught it springer ran and screamed and surveyed the aftermath victory for the most part he got what he expected jubilation relief and maybe a glint of disbelief from his teammates as they rushed out of the first base dugout like bats from cave but toward the end of the exodus springer saw aj hinch race out of the dugout a first third smile on his face it's strange how many memories that smile evoked and how quickly they arrived the way hinch manage the shredded nerves and panicked uncertainty during hurricane harvey the text messages springer in his teammates received when hinch knew they were struggling or needed a day off the quiet equanimity it's okay to fail springer says just know why you failed that sanded away the rough edges of a long season springer might not have known all the particulars how hinch is uber prospect status in high school and at stanford was overshadowed by underwhelming professional career how he almost quit and stayed home in midwest city oklahoma after his father died before he could watch hinge play a college game how his brief and bidder first managerial experience in arizona made him wonder whether he would ever get or even want another chance.
