Just so I understand lady antebellum. That had no reason to change its name. They're saying. They trademarked the name ten years ago. Ako they've had it for many years. That's their quote. So they went to her, and they were willing to do a settlement for name, they already owned. While these givers I do not know. Why obviously had the summit dollar amount been less than that? They probably would have done it. We never would have heard about it. But like I own Joepags, media I owned the name of the show Joe Pags show if somebody else showed up. To use my name. I'm not sure I follow. How exactly is it that the person has been using the name for longtime doesn't have the first right, and if lady antebellum owns the name lady a for years and years on this story at the inside ten years. If they owned that name, why would they have given her a dime? They would have just said you cease and desist. Stop using the name right into of the story. because. When, this story first came out the at least the lady antebellum part of it. They were claiming that they're changing the name to lady in. They had mentioned that I. Guess Their fans have been calling them that for some time now anyway, but that doesn't matter I mean. I don't know if when that started happening. If they trademark did or whatever, but this this lady has been using it forever I mean she. She says she had music on spotify. It using that name and everything else so. The whole thing just seems dumb. I mean the whole point of of them trying to do all this because they were supposed to be woke and it seems like they're really not. They're asleep there obviously asleep because now instead of trying to say okay, let's work through it and again it's eight eight, eight nine four one pags. joepags Dot Com i WanNa know what you guys think. Lady looks like through all of this because they really are making themselves idiots, but let's work through this. They decided to be lady a which maybe they're. Fans have been calling them that. Let's say when I started joepags media. Maybe this is a better example. I also just for the hell of it copyrighted. Joe P. Radio. You know what I mean. There's nobody knew it, and there's somebody out. There shows up with Joe P. radio eye contact. Say Hey, just let you know I've got the copyright on. Not You gotTa stop using that. We. Why wouldn't lady antebellum regionally have done that? When they found out that I need to white was using the name. Why did they immediately say? Hey, listen. We've had this copyrighted for years and years. Good. They didn't WanNa hurt this woman. They wanted to come together and see if they could find some kind of mutual agreement. You're at the mutual. Dollar if Lydia antebellum offers offered her even a dollar. To Stop using the name that they could use the name they have admitted she owns it. He's another example. I used to work for very large pizza company and one of the things was. And, says hey, there was a piece of glass in my pizza. Or something like that. That is alleging that the store or the manager of the pizza makers or the company is liable for something wrong having the pizza. If you even offer them their money back, you're admitting guilt. I, mean you have no proof that there was a glass in the pizza or that? There was a bug or something, and if I, offer you money I legally and coming office, somebody who is admitting I did something wrong to your pizza, and if I say well I'll give you your money back. That now can be the impetus for a lawsuit. Hey, they admitted wrongdoing. He offered me money. We want a lot more money than that. Of Lady antebellum goes to lady a Anita White, and says. Hey, we'll give you X. amount of dollars. For All right to use that name. Let's say it's a thousand dollars and she says hey. I appreciate the offer I want ten million. She's not wrong. Now Lady antebellum through SMART. Don't go public with it. Go back there and say hey, listen give you five, hundred, thousand or something. Give her something. "On our thirteen ten K of K, a text line at three, one, eight, nine, nine, six, and then jumping on the politically correct bandwagon, for perhaps maybe feeling a little left out of the discussion, or maybe wanting just feel relevance. You've got the country band lady antebellum. I Sat. They've changed their name to lady. A because of slavery reference that really by dictionary definition is not, but yes, the country band lady antebellum announced just yesterday that it changed its name to lady a that decision which the grammy. Award winning group announced on twitter comes after much personal reflection and conversations with their closest black friends, as antebellum refers to a period of time, which includes slavery I thought the thought the dictionary definition than I'll share with you. Courtesy of Merriam Webster Ban Members Hillary. Scott Charles Kelley Dave Hayward. Well, they all said in a statement that they are regretful and embarrassed for not taking into consideration of. Of the words associations with slavery. The statement said that they chose the name after the antebellum style home where they shot their first band photos, and it reminded them of southern styles of music. Okay, fair enough, but they said in recent weeks their eyes have been opened to blind spots. We didn't even know existed and the injustices, inequality and biases. Black women and men have always faced. The Band said it is deeply deeply sorry for the hurt that this has caused and for anyone who felt unsafe, unseen or UN valued because the name of their band was lady antebellum. All Right? Let's go to the dictionary showy. Antebellum means before the war. It wasn't widely associated with the civil war, eighteen, sixty, one, eighteen, sixty, five, until after that conflict was over the word actually comes from the Latin phrase, anti bellum literally before the war, and its earliest known print appearance in English dates back to the eighteen forties. There you go from Merriam Webster Dictionary, so. It could also be construed. That really wasn't even associated with the civil war whatsoever, because as I look at the definition because you know, you can go on down through a definition of a word, and come up with some well pretty archaic. Arcane definitions as you work through the number of definitions. Merriam. Webster goes onto. Say antebellum means existing before a war, not any specific war. Hey, I've got an idea. How about this? And how does any of this drive the conversation forward when we're talking about the need for reform in some, but not all police departments when we're talking about the need to address issues in this country. How does tearing down statues basically pardon the word choice here. Whitewashing are passed a racing our history and again I lapse into Cliche here and I'm talking about tearing down monuments. What are they GONNA? Do Stone Mountain where you have. Confederate generals etched into stone. Are they just going to blast away? Last away our past. A past that needs to be remembered. Here's the Cliche for you. Because history not remembered is often repeated. And by a radicalizing are past, and how far we've come, and how we can learn from our past, so we don't repeat it. Some say we actually are at this point in time. How does that solve any of the issues that we are facing today? You tell me nine, seven, three, five, three, thirteen, eight, seven, seven, three, five, three, thirteen, dropped me a text on our thirteen ten Kfi a text line by the way I appreciate your texts that have been coming in some coming in late in the show, but We're going to reflect back on some of the discussions that we've had earlier this week and read some of. Of Your Tax and talk about those as well so keep those texts coming to our thirteen ten KFI text line again one nine nine six. If it's your first time using the text line, just text, KF, a two, three, one, nine, nine six, and then you can text away with wild abandon. How about this will if we're if we're toppling stetch? If we're going to get rid of the Washington, and Lincoln Memorial's all right if we're basically. Looking at art and culture and Television, we talked about the fact that HBO Maxwell. They've pulled back on gone with the wind on airing gone with the wind because they've got to put some sort of historical disclaimer on it because we're not smart enough to realize how far this nation has come. Are we perfect? No. What's the death of George Floyd absolutely? Unforgivable. It was brutal. It was the personification of evil. Can we all? Can we all do better society? Yeah. But destroying any references. To our past, which once again underscores how far we of the nation as have come. Do we still have a ways to go? Absolutely? Can we all do better? Of course we can't. "Of a break when I go get out the cot or something like that you wanna go cry your eyes at me to call your mom call your ex boyfriend that is lady antebellum with a beautiful song called what if I never get over you Hillary Scott Charles Kelley and Dave Haywood of lady antebellum are here yeah I'd really beautiful song and it's it's quite moving and I've been reading some of the press surrounding this new record I would normally ask about the press but I think it's it's worth asking about that I've seen a lot of the world I'm the most vulnerable album they put out yet did it Charles I'll start with you does it feel like something changed here yeah I mean you know another one the songs that we're going to perform you know be patient with my love cannot really started the conversation about honesty on this record I I wrote that two years ago and and I just was going through I don't know a little bit of just kind of a a search for what my purpose was there is you know is a little bit more my spirituality and all these things and trying to kind of wrestle with you know a little bit of my drinking and stuff you know as musicians we conduct tend to tend to get all wrapped up and all that and and and just the fast pace of it all and I think it was just a really big life change for me that happened over this past year too we just wrote that song in and they responded so so much to it we were like well why don't we really chase after that so that all of a sudden he wrote a song called let it be love we got a song called ocean to that we recorded that we didn't even right but we started even trying to find songs from other national song writers that fit into this theme of honesty and it just I don't know really kinda let us is the spot you have to imagine when you have to have the sort of come personal conversations whether to buy your drinking whether it's about just trying to one of the things in your life it requires a level of trust with the band that sort of like another level of trust yes what had happened inside the band in order for you guys to have well we I mean working on our communication I think figuring out where we all came from the way we learn to communicate when are kind of the families we grew up in and and then just really being able to learn to listen and to create a safe space to to share ideas and be creative and then also have some hard conversations is like a marriage it is I was literally about to say it it is truly a marriage and we run a business together were business partners we are you know and to go into the creative space and create art there's got to be trust you know especially when you're talking about things that we're talking about on this record and the and the things that we've just been through and and so I think you know nurturing that relationship that we have together and knowing that it is greater than the sum of its parts is it's just we've we've always I think known that but I think more now than ever were we're moving intentionally toward living from that space if you just tuning in lady antebellum is here right now we're talking about the new album ocean that's at everywhere right now they're gonna perform another song from it just a little bit I got it I got to do this though can you put that can put those things on a second I know I know you're not going to be surprised it's not you know this is your life is going to really take a listen to him and the yes that's a little bit lady antebellum.

"Guys, Willie Geist back with you for another edition of the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks so much for clicking and listening along with us this week. My guess are Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley, and David Haywood together. They make up the country band lady antebellum or lady a as their fans call them. I call him a country van and they are that, but they're bigger than that. They're crossover band. There hit need you now when all the way to number two in two thousand ten on the billboard hot one hundred that made them pop stars. One them five Grammies off that album album went platinum and the rest is music history there. Now back out on tour going out this week with Darius Rucker and the summer plays on tour. They invited me down to Nashville. It was cooled as they got ready in the final days of preparation for the tour. We sat down, you hear the first part of our interview, and then we moved into the rehearsal space, which was a giant airplane hangar size space where they set up the full rig for the show that's going to be on tour through arenas and. Theaters and amphitheaters across the country. Big stage the video monitor all the lighting. Everything you'd see concert was set up in this big room, a hot in the heat in Nashville with no air conditioning. So they have these giant industrial size bigger than Beyonce fans. That's how big blowing in there as they ran through a set and they gave us about three songs to listen to. So I think you'll like these guys, if you if you not a fan of their music or you don't know much about them, they're they're totally likeable. They've got young kids. They talk about how it's different now being Rockstars early on, and now they're going out on tour with pack and plays and diaper changing tables and all the rest of it. So I hope you enjoy the conversation with the big Grammy winning band lady antebellum right here on the Sunday sit down podcast. Thanks for doing this guy's appreciate it. So next week, in about nine days by math, you'll be on stage in Toronto, launching a tour. What's the feeling and like the week leading up to the tour. Anticipation. I think you know, we all are too so excited to get back out on the stage and to be on tour with Darius. It'll just be a really fun experience. I know I'm kinda wearing a lot of hats right now with newborns at home. So it's a lot of packing lists checklist because we'll all be together, but but I'm excited. It's gonna feel good to to be up on stage together. It's going to be the most collaborative tour that we've ever had because it's kind of like a co headline and thing. You know what? So Jerry, we'll have I wrestle Dickerson then we'll go out there and he's, you know, really killing the right now newcomer on the scene and then Darius will play, and then we'll play. And there might be some little interaction there too. But then then, man, we're just going to have an all out, you know, just jam session. Big, big one. Moment. So it's it's really fun. I mean, I think we're finally did some radio interviews this morning, and it was just talking to a lot of the stations, and I think we're finally at, that's that spot ten years later where we finally have an hour and a half to two hours worth of songs at the audience knows you know. And so you know, you're not giving them too much time to go have a break or anything like you'd better better stay. Does it feel like going home again, to be up on stage on tour any nerves, going into it all set up back here even being backstage. I mean, this is recording ring and we're rehearsing, you know, over these last few weeks here, it just feels like stepping back into what we know and what we love. I think we always get a little nervous. I think whenever we lose getting nervous, then maybe we should stop because it's fun to have a little, you know, healthy near helping herbs and a little anxiety going in and making sure everything's going right, especially the first night. Yeah, we'll be up in Toronto, making sure everything kinda goes as seamless as possible, but either way, I mean, this is this is what we live for. You know, I mean, being up, there you look good is a real fun song. Now on the show and heartbreak, some of the new stuff's fun and you know, it's, I don't know, like Charleston. It's fun to be in this position where you recognize that people are coming for your whole catalog. And a lot of our early stuff I run to you need you now just to kiss American Honey. So it's fun to have a body of work to get to showcase down in Toronto to kick it off with one of our favorite cities to play video. Now, in Toronto, Canada's been really good ever since we kind of after the first couple years. I know we got to open up for Keith urban up there and it just, I don't know they've, they've just been with us through the whole thing. And so it really is one of our best markets. We're excited Hillary. You're not gonna. Have you drummer though? Backstage, you will be okay. Just not on stage. We couldn't. He. We just had to kind of make that executive decision and it was a hard one to make, but it's been. It's already. Drummer for seven years, Chris, and he is now going to be just already is an incredible data at home with my daughters. And so they're going to meet us in Cleveland. Actually, the second show of the tour and when he comes out, we have a free trader. That's that's all that. Now. To have a backup good out of all of the instruments. It's probably the most dangerous. So that's good to have a backup and
