The Trouble With the Religion of Tolerance
"Have these 5 religions that I'm going to talk about, which I think is really important. The first one I think is interesting, which is this new religion of tolerance. Now, tolerance is considered to be a value. I don't know why. And you might say, well, Charlie, that's really mean. I'd have no tolerance for a man who thinks he's a woman to compete in NCAA championships and win a national title. I have no tolerance of that. You can be compassionate, you can be loving, but isn't the most loving thing to have standards that the world needs to be ordered in harmony with the natural law. Instead, if you tolerate evil, you are complicit with evil. And we're seeing that they say, well, Charlie, you're not very tolerant of these trans athletes. I just call them what they are, right? These are men wearing woman face, masquerading as women trying to appropriate womanhood because they couldn't compete against other men and their cheaters. That's what this is. And if I have to see another one of these bumper stickers or signs, you know what I don't know, I saw them in highland park a lot. I don't know if you see them in Fort Worth, but I see my highland park a lot. We believe that Black Lives Matter and science is real. It's like religious incantation, right? And when I see these things, the home is like an $8 million house, right? And this is how you should look at it from now on. You say, that's what happens when Christianity dies in your society.

"Wholly violated and losing their body autonomy. R. Kelly's decision in New York. Jim, I'm sure you have a lot to say about this. He is going to spend 30 years behind bars at 55. He's not going to come out on anything but a walker, should he live to 85. I think that there are two points to be made that are worthy of sound opinions. Number one, I've said this before, but in the history of popular music, where men have been treating women badly all too often from the era of the Bobby soxers until last week, no one has ever garnered a sentence like that 30 years behind bars for 30 years of sexual predation of young women and boys, young girls underage girls and boys. He's truly singular. I don't feel like a lot of people are realizing. You know, people will say, what about groupie culture? And David Bowie and Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin. Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, right? Nobody has ever been convicted of charges as broad as deep and as numerous, or been sentenced to 30 years behind bars. And this was only part one. You're going to have to cover the second federal trial in August. Is that right? Yes, are you going to come sit next to me for this? No wealthy. Are you than me? Better you than me. You know, the other point I wanted to make is America has got a problem with race and sex and its never been more obvious in my lifetime althea, what am I talking about at the beginning of this R. Kelly's first victims in 1991? Kelly was starting his predatory behavior of 30 years. Doctor Anita hill testified on Capitol Hill. And she was not believed in very credible accusations of sexual harassment. When this was coming to a head again with my BuzzFeed reporting and the cult story and then that leads to mute R. Kelly and surviving R. Kelly. Doctor Christine blasey Ford was testifying on Capitol Hill with very credible accusations of sexual assault, and she was not believed. If there is a bigger story beyond the most monstrous predator in the history of popular music, now spending the rest of his life behind bars, it is that we have got to believe women. We have got to believe them. And those two women not being believed, despite the amazing courage, is how we got that overturning of roe V wade two weeks ago. You know what, Jim, I don't think it's that people didn't believe Anita hill or Christine blasey Ford. I know myself and a lot of people were watching have watched both of those and we're thinking everyone knows this is true. They are speaking the truth. It's the fact that so many people didn't care and these people still got elevated and got to keep their jobs and here we are. And even more disturbing and current story on July 4th about ten shortly after 10 a.m. in the morning. A shooter on top of a roof in highland park, the wealthy and quiet suburb to the north of us on the Lake. Slaughtered 8 people now that toll could rise, we're talking only two days after this story. And injured 31, he's been caught. And it kills me and reminds me of April 1999 when Greg and I were on the air live in the earliest incarnation of sound opinions, and the Columbine news broke, and suddenly people are on TV or talking about a music connection. Those shooters were music fans. This shooter whose name I don't even want to say is a rapper, a prolific one, but a bad one who put out 9 releases over the last 5 or 6 years. I want to turn to an ace reporter bob Gio rito. I think he's one of the best hard news reporters in Chicago. He's been in highland park since the shooting 14, 16 hour days. I think that's the $1 million question who was this troubled man? I found some people who knew him and who hung out with him in high school and up until that year 2017 or 2018 and at that point, I found two brothers yesterday who knew him pretty well. He's the skateboard together. And they said he was always quiet and kind of kept to himself, but they never, they said he wasn't deviant or he wasn't, you know, he wasn't dark. "What a four year old saw at the highland park mass shooting by Julia fine. Fine is the author of the novels the upstairs house and what should be wild. At school on Friday, July 1st, four and a half year old leora drew four white crayon figures on black paper, smiling beneath a neon firework display. This was a picture of her family. Her mother, her father, and her two year old brother, at the highland park July 4th celebration and fireworks. The event would be canceled, the community shaken after a mass shooting at the morning parade left 7 dead and dozens injured. In its place, an hour's long manhunt would spread terror through the Chicago suburb, as residents sheltered in place and rumors about the suspect's whereabouts raced across social media. When evening fell, instead of watching fireworks, liora would be huddled in her parents room, asking about the bad man that wants to shoot us, while her little brother kept repeating, scary part run. On Friday, she and her family knew none of this. They, like so many of us went into the long weekend excited for some COVID safe holiday fun. I first met leora when she was our 6 month old neighbor, around the same age as my son. They crawled together at the playground, swam in baby pools, went to story hour, and made messes of sensory bins. On July 4th, this sweet rosy cheeked child saw people at a family parade, gunned down directly in front of her. We were 20 feet from the shooter. Lyor was standing out ahead of us, waving at the people in the parade. Three people who were sitting in chairs right in front of her on Monday are now confirmed dead, says my friend Melissa, her mother. Those people in those chairs took bullets for our children who were ducking for cover right next to them. I thought my son was going to die in my arms. I thought I was going to watch my daughter die on the ground. The family ran to a gas station about half a mile away where they were picked up by Melissa's in laws who took them to a nearby suburb until the shooter had been apprehended, and they felt safer going home. I asked Melissa, how she knew right away that the sound was a gun. When most of the crowd, including her husband, thought it was fireworks. There have already been over 300 mass shootings this year. She says, I've been thinking for a long time that it's just a matter of time before one of us is in one. When I heard those shots, I knew this is it. This is our time. Melissa and I planned this conversation around our children's schedules. Lyor had school, my son had camp. We had to get them into bed or out the door. Routine provides stability when children are processing trauma, but as their parents, we no longer have the luxury of diving back into our own routines. We can't just shake our heads and move on. What happened in highland park is happening too often to too many Americans. After every mass shooting we post Instagram stories respond to text threads, ask coworkers, did you hear? Our government sprouts platitudes. We cross our fingers, we'll be spared. I am telling you now that we won't be. If things don't change, if we don't fight for more than the bare bones by partisan safer communities act, everyone in America will soon be or know someone directly impacted by a preventable mass shooting. Gun violence victims aren't only the wounded and the dead. They are Melissa, who hustled her small children out of harm's way. Leora, who has talked about guts falling out of someone's stomach and keeps wanting to check on her brother. The parade attendees who thought they heard fireworks then fled when told otherwise. The kids in schools running through active shooter drills, the moviegoers, eyeing the exits just in case. The folks who jump when a car backfires. How can we live like this? Melissa says she'll never attend a large gathering again. She and her husband have discussed leaving the country. Other friends talk about avoiding crowds, missing religious events, ordering online to avoid shopping malls, skipping stadiums to watch sports games on TV. This isn't freedom. Our days are dictated by fear because our leadership has chosen guns over our lives. Melissa says they're lucky to be alive, which speaks to our idea of what luck now means. Other families are not so lucky. They come home to rumpled beds and half eaten yogurts. The evidence of lives cut short. They bury, and they mourn, and unless we choose our children's futures over a distorted interpretation of a centuries old document, they can and will be you. That picture, says Melissa of leora's crayon drawing, when I took it out of her locker, I just started crying because I was like, oh my God, what if I was coming to pick this up? Without her..

The Common Denominator in the Latest Spate of Tragedies
"There's some interesting hubbub on social media about the highland park shooter, this weird kid, I've seen pictures of him, he doesn't look normal, stable. But nevertheless, of course, there's a normal kind of what is this politics, is he a trumpster, apparently he did go to a Trump rally, but he appears to have gone as a protester or a mocker at one point he's seen draping a flag over himself. Again, the question becoming is he putting the flag over himself because he's an America first patriot or the opposite that he's mocking the flag and doing it as a kind of sarcastic imitation of the so called maga movement. But you have a little different take on all this. You've been talking about what is the common denominator of all this? Yeah, so the common denominator of the not only this shooting, but the wagga Shaw massacre, which I don't know if you guys remember. And you've all done, but Daryl Brooks killed these people with his truck or his SUV or whatever it was, is as you feed. So obviously the weapon of choice was not the same. However, the media chooses not to look at one and dwell on another. Obviously, they want they want to take away guns. They want to, they really want to criminalize anybody that gets guns, even though they say no, no, no, we're not going to do that. To emphasize the fact that determining the appropriate sentence in any case, and in this case, is illegal analysis. It's applying the rule of law to the facts of an individual and specific case. What the cases are what the sentence is not based on. Is the emotion? Or sympathy? But at the same time, I want to acknowledge the deep and tremendous pain. And if you ever get caught, you think somebody's supposed to bail you out. Because you have never taken responsibility for your own actions. Now, of course, her coach came out and I'm not going to say her coach's name because she's completely irrelevant just as much as your girl Brittany grinder is irrelevant. Her coach comes out and makes the most ignorant statement I've ever heard in my life. She said, well, let me say her first statement was smart. The rest of her statements were ignorant. She said if this was LeBron James, they would have gotten a matter a long time ago. Duh, duh. You talking about one of the greatest basketball players to ever play. Of course they would get him out of there. Why, mister Tatum? Because half of America would be protesting right now and it would be talking about it on television all day long around almost every sports lovers dining room table, they're going to be talking about LeBron James. How can in the NBA continue without LeBron James?

Uvalde Officer Sought Permission to Shoot During Massacre
"Let's move on to another topic. And this is just a quick insert because I mentioned this yesterday on my show about Yuval. And about a report from the investigation that revealed that there was an officer that saw the suspect and had to ask or decided that he would ask a supervisor to engage the suspect after reading the fool. I didn't read it. It was 27 pages I read 16 of the 27 pages I still got a few more pages to read. But after going through the investigatory report, it's not cut and dry. According to the report, he was over a 140 a 140 yards away from the shooter. When he asked for a supervisor to give him permission to shoot, the guy going into the school.

Highland Park Mayor: 'Our Assault Weapons Ban Should Be a Template'
"For you. Highland park, Illinois. Scene of a horrific shooting where this evil Cretan gets up on a roof and murders innocent people. I want you to hear what the mayor of highland park, Illinois. The scene of this awful 4th of July parade attack shed about their gun control laws in highland park, Illinois. That passage of the assault weapons ban in large capacity magazine ban that we put through in 2013 should be a template for others. And I've been working since 2018 to get the state of Illinois to allow other cities to have that opportunity through a weird twist in the way that we were able to do that. There was only a ten day window for cities in Illinois to pass assault weapons bans. That state preemption needs to be removed and I've been working on that. How did your assault weapons ban work out on July 4th? For the 7 people who were murdered.

How the Gender Movement Destroys Our Society
"The Bible has a story about this. It's called sodom and gomorrah. Sexual immorality. We are already seeing this go off the rails. It started out with love who you love. They piggyback off to the black movement of civil rights, they piggyback after that off of that, use the leverage to then force the country to accept their own sexual deviancy in some cases and also sexual preferences in other cases. Love who you love, not ain't love who you love no more. Is that I'm not a man. I'm a woman today. And even though that's a mental illness, now I know it's not a mental illness no more. You're totally normal. Everything is totally going away with you. You don't need to talk to a single counselor. You know what you're at 7 years old, you know exactly what you should be doing for the rest of your life. You know you're about. You ain't even hit puberty yet. And you know that you should transition at 7 years old. You tell your mama that that chicken head don't know what's going on. And that you know better than she doing, you 7. Now you're still peeing in the bed. And you ain't watched a single lick or clothes you can't watch this, you don't know what you're doing with your life. But you know how to transition.

I want to give a special shout out to Carl for stepping in and taking over the show while I was out on show you guys are familiar with Carl Jackson. Did a really good job, what a wonderful young man. And I really appreciate him for stepping in the gap while I had to go and take care of some business. Try to put out some fires. For certain people, speaking to parents that have questions about certain political topics and that was my endeavor to go in and try to do my best. I'm not going to get into all that because that's confidential. Now, I want to talk about two things. Primarily, I'll start with talk about two things primarily to major shootings that occurred in the last several weeks. One, because I didn't have an opportunity to talk about this yesterday, obviously I wasn't here. The talk about the shooting at the highland park area, the highland park shooting in Illinois. Let me say this very clearly and be straightforward. Why are people posting the name and the photo of the lunatic who decided to go and shoot and kill people at an Independence Day parade? Why? Do we not understand that this is exactly what he wants? He wants people to post his face to post his name so he can go down in history. If you ask me, his attempt was to outdo the Yuval day shooter. His attempt was to outdo the buffalo shooter. That was his attempt. Because he has probably zero experience shooting with an AR-15 and has the heart of Minnie mouse, thank God that he didn't cause more damage than he did. Because he don't understand ballistics and tactical deployment of an AR-15, he didn't, he didn't kill a lot of people which he could because he had a lot of candidates that he could have taken out. So thank God he wasn't as prepared. But in his mind, he believed he was going to go down in history to be the most prolific shooter in Chicago or not in Chicago, but in Illinois state history. He failed at that. But what we're doing in the media and pundits are putting his name on display in a picture of him. He's still alive. He's going to go to jail and he's going to get letters and papers and they're going to see his name plastered everywhere and spoken about throughout the entire United States of America and abroad. Now, just imagine a young man who has no future, he feels that as if he has no purposes, or no purpose, according to Fox News article he attempted to commit suicide before, he was a danger to himself and others very clearly established by his parents, which I'll get to his dead in a minute. He should be sent to prison as well,

"Right, let's take your calls, Los Angeles Alex, hello. Hi, Dennis. Thank you for taking my call. I think way to decipher what young people believe is what flag do they revere. And you don't see the American flag, but you do see the pride progress flag, which for those who may not know is the rainbow flag as we normally call it and that adds more and more colors every couple of minutes to include a variety of alternative lifestyles, I guess. And I was thinking about this yesterday because you saw throughout the month of June, you had all these companies and organizations with their social media icons with the rainbow flag colors on them. All month long, supporting the rainbow. But would they dare put an American flag icon for the month of July? Let alone just a day of the 4th of July. Amazing, isn't it? Amazing. Yeah. And further, what I noticed yesterday I was on when I went to Google yesterday, you know, they have the little illustrations holidays. They had the most shallow art that I'd ever seen on their site, which was, okay, the G was flipping a burger, the O had a sparkler. There was an American flag. You know, it wasn't, it wasn't the founders writing the Declaration of Independence, something meaningful. It was, yeah, like fireworks and cook burgers. That's all that's about. Oh, I wish I'd have seen that. Wow, you're so right. Very interesting. How old are you? 35. Married? No. How come? Oh, I've been through a lot of been through some dark places in my life recently. I'm just really really kind of figuring things out again. So hopefully hopefully soon I'll find that person. Good luck, I want you to get married. Thank you. Appreciate it. How many talk show hosts ask a caller out of nowhere? Are you married? This will sound awful, and I don't care. I enjoy myself. Because I don't take me that seriously. I take my values very seriously, but not me. So I sort of, not sort of. I look at me from outside of me. And I just thought, that's not common. But I do want just about everybody to get married. What are what are we teaching our kids today? Without God and country any longer. By the way, just it's not fully related, but I did raise the issue of there were no perfect men and so bob in Pennsylvania was Jesus the man not perfect either. I think that the general Christian theology is that he was perfect, but so that's sort of the divine in him. It's an interesting question. I'm going to have to ask my Christian pastor Friends. Because it's a good question, you ask, was Jesus the man, not the obviously. And Christian belief, this part of the godhead was he perfect. So at the end, when he said, oh my God, why have you abandoned me? Was that perfect? There was that fully human because I've been told often he was fully divine and fully human. Anyway, good one. I just can't talk about an acquisition, not the subject. So thank you, bob, in Pennsylvania..

"So what do kids have today? That's the subject of this ultimate issues hour. Tell me. It would be great if you are not a fan of God and country to tell me what what did you raise your kids to believe in to replace God and country. They don't believe in America and they don't believe in God. And I mean the God of the Bible. I don't mean just some celestial being. Then what have they been given? I'll tell you what they're given in large chunks today, believe in race. Oh, that's deep. Believe in the color of your skin. Can't tell you how fulfilling that must be for kids. It is the most meaningless possible thing to believe in. The color of your skin. Because it is of no significance. And that is that is both largely the fact that America, not entirely, but largely, and it is also what we should aspire to. The meaninglessness of race. So what do we give kids if we don't give them God and country? That's my question. If you can't speak for your family because you gave your kids those things, perhaps you know of another family that you might be related to or just friendly with. What did they give to their children? In a society that has deprived children. Of the belief in God or country. It's a big loss, most people are not even aware of this loss. Hence the topic. When a prager 7 7 6 ultimate issues hour. Dennis prager here ultimate issues hour. I admit I say that often on the ultimate issues hour, which is fine. I ask important questions on the ultimate issues hour. That's why it's called ultimate issues. But it's an interesting more than interesting. It's incredibly important question. Even Superman is no longer he's not only no longer promotes truth justice in the American way. They dropped American weights now, the better way. He's not even an American anymore. The richness of my life, having had my religion and God. "When a prager 7 7 6, let's take a look here. What's our story here? What did you say? Okay, let's look here. Oh, look at that. Harold and Valdosta, Georgia likes Green Day and classical music. I didn't say you can't. I just, I just think anybody who knows the keys of all the symphonies that I enumerated is unlikely to be a Green Day fan. I don't know what I'm saying Green Day is bad. I say it. I think this man is bad. Every Tuesday, the third hour of the Dennis prager show is the ultimate issues hour. Because if you don't have clarity on the ultimate issues, you end up foolish and foolishness creates more evil. Than any other single thing. Because nice people who are foolish and there are hundreds of millions of them. Do a lot of damage. Wisdom is the root to goodness. I would have called this the wisdom hour, but it would sound pompous, and also the word wisdom is not appealing. I wonder if, at any time, in elementary school, high school or college. The word is actually used. I mean it, but I wonder if it is even mentioned once. Like the wisdom of the Greek writers, the Roman writers, the Bible, Shakespeare. It's all about wisdom, was the means understanding life. To go through life, based on your feelings and not on attaining wisdom, this is a very bad road on which to travel. Notice that there was no hanging preposition at the end of that sentence. A very small percentage of you know what I'm talking about. Because you went to school and didn't learn it. As I can see when I read so many articles. So often, I mean, with such elementary, you know, you know how often now I hear, so I've went, have you noticed that? Not I've gone, I've went. Pay attention, you'll be shocked. All right, anyway, the ultimate issues hour, my Friends today in light of the fact that yesterday was July 4th. I decide to choose this topic, what the kids have to believe in. That's the topic. They had God and country in the United States. Sounds because the left controls the media. And controls education, the very terms God and country are visible to the left. A term meaning. Laughable. The idea that kids should be raised with belief in God and country sounds neo fascistic. You can even drop the neo. To the folks on the left, raise kids with belief in God and in America. Oh my God. Oh my. College. The idea that one would do that is to raise children with stupidity and even perhaps evil. So given that God and country have been largely destroyed as central beliefs in the moral challenge worldview of young people in America, the question is what do they have to believe.

"Federal dot com. Hello, y'all. Dennis prager here. A giant of our time named Billy Joe Armstrong. Proclaimed F America. And perform the concert with a post backdrop that read F the whole word Ted Cruz. So why did they do this and we don't? Because nothing is sacred on the left, that is why. In one sentence, that is the answer. Nothing is sacred. I have lamented public cursing ever since I began broadcasting 40 years ago. Public cursing is the famous, it is a verbal and analog to the famous doctrine of broken windows. Broken windows and graffiti are not the same as rape and larceny and beatings and murder. Correct, correct. But if you leave them unchecked, that's what it leads to. That was the theory, James Q Wilson and his associate whose name eludes me. And they were professors at Harvard and then UCLA in the case. Of James Q Wilson, who was a wonderful human being, I had the honor of dining with them a few occasions. I was honored that he was a regular listener to my show, as he was at UCLA teaching. Public cursing is a demonstration of a society going downhill. Nothing is sacred. It doesn't even strike young people as odd to say the F word. Out loud. I am not one who never uses such words. I rarely, but not never. As I have said so often, if a piano falls on your toe and you go and you say gosh darn it, you're made of different stuff than I am. Or a joke with the word or among Friends. I'm talking not in private. I'm talking public. By the way, it is another example. This is a sidebar here. Another example of the lack of wisdom in our society, the people do not distinguish between public and private behavior. Including many conservatives in many religious people. After all, God hears you curse if you curse privately, right? Just as much as he hears you if you do it publicly, and so they think, oh, therefore it's the same. But it's not the same. If I use the F word privately with a friend, and I say it on the air right now, the difference is immense. Immense. Anyway, that's what he did. This Billy Joe Armstrong, the musician's political outcry, continued at his show and hurt his Huddersfield, England, concertgoers claim he told the crowd F the Supreme Court of America. Before playing American idiot, is that an autobiographical piece? Which the band is previously said was written out of anger about not being represented by national leadership, the narcissism is astonishing. He also allegedly called the justices the PR word for penis during his performance of hitchin arrived. And I'm sure the people just, the young people there, loved it, just lived it. Talking.

It was politically motivated. Was the impoverished no. He was a middle class family. So what is the reason? It would seem to me, in this case, quite evidently, unless other facts come out, he was a nut, a true bonafide crackpot. There's a Alex berenson. Is that who it is? Yeah. He tweeted out an ear retweeted a tweet from someone who claimed to have known him some years ago and played music with him in a band. That he was a loner and what else was the word used? And I lost touch with reality. That was what the claim was. He had lost touch with reality. He was a stoner. In my opinion, either marijuana or put it this way, marijuana and or psychiatric drugs. Or far more likely to be involved in this. Then guns or politics or race, the usual culprits. I'd like to write a piece. This will sound a truly arrogant and I'll live with it. I would like to write a piece on all the issues that I have been right on. Where I had a very minority view. From the lockdowns being the greatest mistake made internationally ever. And I made clear, I wasn't talking about the greatest evil but greatest mistake. To my belief that marijuana is despicable. My hatred for marijuana goes back my entire life. I mean, I really hate it. And I remember 30 years ago. 30 years ago, maybe more. I will be on radio next month, August, as of 40 for 40 years. As long as the Israelites wandered in the wilderness. But it hasn't been a wilderness for me. I've been very fortunate. And I've had more than men at to eat. Happily. About 30 years ago, I asked my listeners, one of the occasions where I differed with virtually everybody listening to the show. Which didn't bother me for me. It bothered me that many people who listened to my show are religious many are conservative. And I'm a religious conservative. And it bothered me that they didn't see what I saw. And what I said was, I asked people, would you rather your teenager smoke a cigarette or smoke cigarettes or smoke joints, smoke marijuana? Everybody, I think everybody maybe not everybody. Virtually everybody. Whenever I raise that question and I did a few times in my career, oh, of course marijuana, I would much prefer my kids most marijuana than smoke cigarettes. The God of health, that's what it is. The false God of health. Health, Uber alles. I came up with that phrase decades ago. Health Uber Alice, health above all. As I use the German because it was deutschland Uber alles. In Germany in the 30s. And 40s. Germany above all, and now we had health above all. We must be something Freudian and the fact that that's what came to my mind. That's what's called the Freudian slip where the slip can doesn't always mean something. Anyway, I hope you had a good Independence Day weekend. So much is going on. The terrible shooting was it a suburb of Chicago, what exactly? Northern suburb of Chicago. A kid basically a kid decides to kill. People randomly. So my Friends, let's analyze this for just a moment. The following reasons are given by different people and different groups. For these random murders, senseless as they say, see, politically motivated are not senseless. They're evil. But they're not senseless. But this one is senseless, and a lot of them are. I just like to kill people. It's. A puzzle. So let's eliminate factors. The gun factor is obviously not the factor. There have been guns throughout American history prior to 1970 far fewer such shootings and far fewer gun laws. So if you want to believe that it's a matter of gun laws, then there is nothing that one can say because what you have is a belief, not a fact. And I've always said, even with regard to religious beliefs that I am a religious believer, I never argue belief. There's no point you didn't come to the belief purely on rational grounds. Right? I believe God split the sea when the Israelites fled Egypt. It's not a completely rational idea. I fully acknowledge it. Something transcending the norm took place. So it's pointless to debate me on that belief. What are you going to say? It's not possible. Yes, it's possible if God does it. So it's possible. So, but that's a belief that God did it. So the same holds true, but I'm honest. I acknowledge I have beliefs that are not susceptible to rational dissuasion. But the people who believe guns are the issue, they do not believe they do not have the self awareness to understand that it is a belief like mine about God splitting the sea. It's a belief. And you can't argue beliefs, as I say, that belief has not been attained, not gotten to through reason alone, through facts alone, through data alone, and therefore these people are not susceptible to argument. All right? So what was it rightfully used? Are we going to ban rifles? Right? I mean, it's not the usual claim, am I right or wrong, that it's an assault weapon? We don't know. But they did find the gun. What did they say? They haven't identified the gun. All right, the first I heard was rifle. Let's say it was. What kind of rifle? Okay, right. All right. So given that ubiquity of guns, given the wasn't there a shooting in Denmark, this past weekend, some Dane, just the killed while two or three Danes, and it's impossible virtually impossible to only gun in Denmark..

"News, this is all things considered, I'm Elsa chain. There has been yet another mass shooting. This one took place earlier today in the Chicago suburb of highland park. People were lining the streets to watch the local 4th of July parade when a gunman opened fire. At least 6 are dead and dozens more are injured. A massive manhunt is now underway to find the unidentified shooter. In a statement, Illinois governor JB pritzker responded to the attack saying, quote, there are no words for the kind of monster who lies in wait and fires into a crowd of families with children, celebrating a holiday with their community. One of the people planning to march in this morning's parade was Illinois congressman Brad Schneider. He lives in highland park, and he joins us now, welcome congressman and I'm very, very sorry for what has happened. Thank you for having me. So I understand that you and members of your staff were gathering at the front of the parade at the time. Can you just describe what happened as far as you could see? And what additional details you've learned since from officials? Thank you. So yeah, we were at the very beginning. This is actually one of 5 parades that I had my team do on the 4th of July. And the team was gathered at the very beginning, we haven't started on the yet. Trade had started maybe ten minutes earlier when the shots trying out and people immediately dispersed. And in such safety, we check to make sure everyone was accounted for on the team. And then started working and seeing what we could do to help with our community, I reached out to the mayor and other people to see what was going on. But this is devastating. It's not just the shooters. It's our governor pritzker said, this is a monster of murderer who what is a celebratory day every year, thousands gather on a parade route to honor and celebrate our nation's birthday. He shattered that with, I don't know how many rounds, killing 6 people and severely wounding previously wounding 24 others. And what is the atmosphere tonight like in highland park? I understand your sheltering somewhere because the shooter is in charge. No, my wife and I are at home. That's our neighbors. We've talked to several of them. I think at the beginning this morning, this happened before ten 30, the feeling was disbelief. How could this happen? And not understanding the full scale. As the day has progressed and understanding that this was a high powered assault weapon that 6 people have been murdered, others are in critical condition. The community is in grief. Grief and shock and it's going to be a long time as we work to process this. Now you tweeted that you were committed to doing everything you can to make children, your towns, your nation safer. Can you give us an idea of what you can do as a member of Congress working alongside a very divided Senate right now? The challenge is the Senate. I know we can do. I came to Congress and first elected in 2012. We were going through orientation, it was when the sandy hook shooting happened. I thought after that, we were going to be able to take positive steps to try to reduce gun violence in our nation in 2019 and again in 2021, the House passed the universal background checks legislation that would make sure that people who shouldn't have again can't get one. I think we just have to continue to show resolve and find people who will work with us to make our communities safe for our kids safer.
