"Talked me into going to the masonic lodge. I mean, just a great, just a great man. You know, Vietnam veterans. Scottish writer York right. You know, I never did either one state and blue lodge. You did? Okay. Yep, stay in the blue lodge. But he comes up. He always had a white cup that had sergeant major stripes on one side and a eagle globe and anchor on the other side. And Gerald higgin when he took over a sheriff to the coffee pots out of the office because he said all people do is stand around the coffee pots and bullshit and they don't get nothing done. So. Yeah, yeah. George always had to nub of a cigar in his mouth. And I mean, AJ squared away, I mean, you didn't get more squared away than sergeant major. He was a lieutenant, but everybody called him sergeant major. Lieutenant sheriff's office. So they're going into the law library for some kind of damn staff meeting that morning. And I'm standing in how that just happened to be passing by in the hallway. And the sheriff had his entourage with him and he stops George and he says sergeant major, I know that's not coffee got in that cup. You know what my policy is on coffee. And George has never been to beat. He reached up. He took the cigar out of his mouth with one hand. He looked down at his cup and he looked back up at him and he said, sure if it ain't goddamn orange juice and walked off

"Because remember nobody at team alpha male could be Dominic Cruz until Cody Garbrandt and that took all the and he had to be injured and had to have all that time off. TJ Dillashaw is not the greatest man in the way of all time. He's also going to lose this fight. He's facing somebody that I think he's completely underestimating in terms of he hates aljamain striking. We all do. Aljamain striking is basically his leg kick is his jab. And he used that as his range fighter, but I think what TJ is not what he's underestimating is how quickly aljamain closes distance, how good his wrestling is and how fluid he is from going from one transition to the other when he gets you on the ground. If TJ makes the mistake of not keeping this fight on the feet, for as long as he can, he's losing a decision because Al is going to control him for at least three of the 5 rounds. I'm picking out to defend the title. I'm going to pick Al Joe. That's only because I don't got another choice. I don't have anywhere else to go with my decision. I don't want to. Due to stupid shit he said this week. But I'll pick out, you know, I just don't know. Like, you see, TJ, he looks full TJ again. That's the problem. He looks wooden. It's like an action figure who can't move. Like his limbs don't move properly. His striking and everything. Out of sometimes it's weird. If he doesn't get you to the ground, and what is he? TJ's 30 6, man. TJ's 36. I changed my give me TJ to win this and I thoroughly disliked that. But I think he's going to win how? I just want to know how. My decision. I'll joke can't fuck with him on the feet. He's going to strike him. He's going to go full Dominick Cruz in and out funky bunch. Like in boom footwork movement, look at my arms, like my arms, flex, like it looks like he may not be on what he was on before, allegedly he was. But allegedly, if someone was to continue and find a different substance, they would look like TJ Dillashaw. He don't look like the guy before fighting head and burrow. No, no, no. But that's why I think he's going to lose. It's because the way he looks suggests to me. He looks like he just got out of prison. That's how buff TJ Doolittle looks. But it makes me question, you're in a 5 round fight. You need oxygen in those muscles, you're going to get tired. Algal is going to make you, he's going to get you tired. TJ, that keeps saying he's 36 for a good reason. Watch the San higgin fight again. He barely won that fight. Barely by the skin of his teeth. What do alto do to Corey sandhagen? Mold him the fuck down. Slice through him and choked him out. I don't think he'll choke TJ out. I just think if TJ makes them any mistake and I think he'll make three of them in this fight. And he'll find himself on his back. Because TJ thinks his wrestling is better than Al Joe's. Alan, he's better on the ground. His ground game is very underrated. Oh yeah. I mean, that's his best part of his game. Right, what he did to Peter young, the submissions that he pulls off. He's very underrated. I don't think TJ really wants to go there with him. No, he didn't have to stand stand up. I just don't know if TJ Dillashaw, his physical makeup right now can last 5 rounds without he looks like an action figure. That's like, it's like The Rock being a pro wrestler again. That's not wrestling body. That's actually the hero body. I don't know if this is gonna work. I'm gonna pick I'm sticking with my ceiling prediction. I think it'll be a good fight. I'm only curious because Sterling's striking is he still hasn't put that part of his game together. Yes Sarah and longa have been working with him for a long time. He uses it to find rain and close distance. He doesn't use it to hurt anybody. And if you make some mistakes, TJ could catch him. But I'm picking out all the windows. Main event, Charles Oliveira, Islam makhachev. Two of the longest winning streaks in lightweight history right here. Both telling Habib. Antonio first. But I think they're three and four now. All time and lightweight history. Someone's got to give. I'm just going to we're going to differ from the bat. It's a stops. The hype train. He doesn't stop. But not a hybrid, but he stops the streak of Charles Oliveira. I think sambo went out again to Brazilian due to two here. Not me. I think this is I picked against Charles Oliveira, no life for 5 straight fucking fights. Yeah, you might be doing it again just because Charles is going to win this fight. Here's the problem. You talk about these winning streets. These wings treats are not the same. What Charles Oliveira is done, he's beat against the top. Of the lightweight division. Islamic says best victory is against who? Dan hooker? Bobby Brown? Now, the reason why everybody looks at them is the favorite because he is the favorite, which is wild to me. Islam? Yeah. I wouldn't bet him as a favorite for sure. This has a Habib. Yeah, that's it. That's really it. These mow down people has been very dominant. But there's only one Habib though.

"In 25. Bath and butt. He combined. Take it by. Yeah. I go for the gigabyte person. If you want to go hang on. Have you been called a hundred times before? No, but when I was in school, they called me higgin bud. That's the difference. That's the difference between then and now. Now you are a bar. Not a butt. We're going to talk web 5. That's what we're going to talk. Evolving the web. Okay, today, in the current web model, his presentation says, people are users who do not own their own data or identity, right? They're given accounts by companies and their data is held captive in app silos. That's clearly isn't going to work. That's a problem. The web we want to create a new class of decentralized apps and protocols that put individuals at the center we must empower them with self owned identity and restore control over the data. Everybody's saying this, Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the web is saying. But is he going to build it? Well, that's the question is. So you can't. The problem is people are stupid and lazy and we don't want to actually have the technical capabilities to do and manage our own identity in a way that can be multi factored across lots of places. Nobody wants to make a decision. Doesn't want to make it they don't want to make it easy for us because they can monetize and trap us by using the centralized identity as a way to track to offer services and to track us and all that. So this is basically like, oh, give me some sort of philosophy about work in people in rights. I mean, I don't know. I had Jack to the rest of you. It's socialism. Is that what you're saying? Stacey higbee. No, it's more like a tragedy of the tragedy of the commons. It's basically like people want to get value for nothing and companies want to extract all the value they can for people. There's not really a medium ground. Right. There's no reason for them to make it easy for us. Right. And in fact, I would imagine companies would see this as a great opportunity because as you pointed out, if you have a unique identifier with all your data in it, companies can say, hey, great, that makes it a lot easier for us. Thank you. We built the web, which was perfect for things like this in a lot of ways. Like you look at things like domain registries and URLs. I mean, that made it easy to get places on the web. And it was a fairly accessible system for many people. It's not accessible for everyone. Think about how well that worked, but then we all wanted to create these world gardens. I mean, it's like whatever that forever tension is called. This looks like 9. Yeah, I have it up right now. This is, I think this is blue sky. I think this is kind of what blue sky is saying and blue sky might be a Twitter implementation of this concept, but this is what I think he wants to do. This decentralized and a lot of people thought a lot about this. Somebody's obviously put a lot of thought into this, but until there is a proof of concept application, I'm not looking at trust and identity. You need a trusted view of identity, right? And without a centralized authority for that, because that would be yeah, well, we have that. It's called public key crypto. PKI does it for a lot of things. So we kind of have that kind of thing. But Stacy's point, major pain in the butt. Yeah, and even more like, well, what's the incentive? Why would Amazon or Facebook or Google do this? I mean, they're going to say, yeah, sure, go ahead. Fine. Yeah. And if you want to visit us, you're going to handle over your IT. So we know who you are. Right. Okay, so this is kind of silly, but looking at this presentation, I want to where should I put a file? A friend of mine wrote this in this presentation just brings it all home. Put in the chat on Google Doc. Chat on the Google. Oh, no, I just started to meet. Hold on. Don't worry, see that's going to be a duo. All right, so episode, where does it go in the top? No, on the bottom? Here. Oh, I just stuck it. No. Undo. I can't work the Internet. Put it in the IRC or. I'm going to put it in line. Lined 46. This technology stuff is hard. I was like, ah. Really? I know how it works. Go ahead. Let's just weigh in on Jack's web file. So exactly. So I have an opinion. This is where it is. Okay. But my friend who works at an analyst firm, he wrote about what he calls the developer aesthetic, which is exactly this. It's like hexagons, it's got the font, or it is basically trying to appeal. So what I saw this and I was like, oh, my God, it's the developer aesthetic. Yeah, until there's code. Totally. Maybe there is code. I'm not saying there isn't, but it's hard to judge this is a nice slide show, but it's hard to judge it until there's code, right? I mean, well, in just the, it feels like the tech people, they come at it and they're like, I have this beautiful vision. And then they come out and they program it and they come up with protocols and a way to make it happen. And then the business people look at that and they say, how can I make that money? And the tech people you would think they would figure out that that's what happens every time. But it's like they don't. And then when the business people come in and start making money, the tech people either do one of two things. They jump in and they're like, they sell out and they sell out in the most just mark a Zuckerberg and wait, where they're just like continuously making unethical decisions and just getting away with it and apologizing later if they have to. Or they just leave completely. And become weird people who live in basements in rail from. Chats about selling out. Just I'm looking at this slide show and he's really kind of just describing PKI. PKR or I saw like 20 of these back in late 20 8, 2010, so many, especially with the rise of the beginning of the IoT, because everybody was like, oh, you carry all your data and your data through data profile will talk to the devices and tell you what you like, which you don't like. And still the Internet we want, though, oh yeah. Is there any path to it? Not until it makes everybody some money. But we're not going to pay for it. So here's the problem. And this is the problem. In fact, I thought Jack Dorsey was one of the people who really got that this was the problem. Which is web three. Maybe he does. And that's why he's proposing web 5. We have three looks like it's democratic. It's really controlled by a few companies. NFTs, you see. Look like they look exactly PCs. They look like they're democratic, but it's not an open sea. It doesn't exist. So it's one of those, I mean, the web looks like it's democratic, except if it's not on Google, it doesn't exist. So there are gatekeepers in all of these things. And I think that that's, I don't know. I feel like that's going to be a tough one to get around. It sounds a lot like today's episode of floss weekly. Do they talk about this stuff? Yeah, and this is Sam kern, talked a lot about DIDs and pico and all of this stuff with identification. The centralized identification. So check that out. It's kind of so 6 85 today. It's a soft thing, but I don't know how it gets implemented globally the next Internet. These things don't happen that way. They happen much more. You need an item standard or something. Even that. How did you get regular people to understand this stuff? That's a challenge, right? How do you get them to understand this stuff and get them to want to buy in and make all of their regular people now understand they want privacy? But I think they do. I think when you tell them they want convenience. Yeah, I was like, if I tell you, I will give you privacy, but I won't be able to give you Google Maps.

That might be the cost of a unicorn Frappuccino today. Probably is. Thank you. Thank you. Yeah, twit TV slash club twit and Friday Mike and I will be here with ameris coming to and that's a lot of fun. Yeah. Jeff Jarvis, thank you so much, Leonard tap professor. Director of the town eyed center for entrepreneurs. At the crane, we're here to get out of here. Graduate school and journalism to the university of New York. Let's go. You did not die during the show. So we're good. That's a good thing. We'll take that as a. Win. It's a win. I know how you feel, Jeff, I do. And of course, Stacey higgin bought them. Stacy on IoT dot com is your website. That's where you'll find the IoT podcast. You guys with Kevin tofu. The man who's too good for this show. We try, we try. Is Wednesdays he's hanging out with us. I know he's Python programming. I know. He's coding and hanging out with this kid. You can't resent. No, I don't. I'm just teasing. Actually, I love him. We always want him on because we love him so much. But you got him, and that's what's matters. You also have some newsletter there. I get Kevin in this situation. So you know how the old Groucho Marx show used to. If you said the magic word that the magic word, yeah, duck came down. Yeah. Right. So I always feel that way when I want to say something that turns into the show title. I always wish I could come up with that line. I'm happy when I do this happens rarely. But Stacy, I think did it perfectly delight. What is the show? Show title proposed proposed in Stacey's theoreticals on top of hypotheticals. That's pretty good. It kind of says it all for the show. I like it. The blue haired lady come these pearls of whisky. Other pearls of wisdom also nominated. I'm going to go toast to waffle. There's always people like the waffles. I mean, I like the one down with those people. Invisible Mazda call a husky, let's see. Coronal mass ejection that gazpacho police, no JavaScript for you, but I think you're right. I do like that. I think it's a good question. Theoretical, I just wanted to give you two long John theoreticals on top of hypotheticals. Oh, it's Burke. Where's John, man? He's the only guy who knows how long it can be. Oh, man. Oh man. Screw people's mazdas up with the two long show title. Oh, he'll be the signs.

She went on with the people watching this. Also here. Put grit from hands on photography. He's the community manager at our wonderful Discord. You did a bunch of stuff this week. Yeah, I've been a little busy. We got a event coming at what miss Georgia Dow. It's going to be a lot of fun. It'll be fun. Yeah. And we got Mike Elgin coming up in a couple of weeks, and that's gonna be you. Discord's backup. The Discord was down today. The API was broken. But I think that happened when it's distributed. It's not distributed. That's the illusion that you have. Oh, I see everybody has a server, but they all run on Discord. Just for its own hardware. So I never understood that. Yeah, I never understood it either until I got one, and then I realized, well, it's just it's all running on there. Hardware. So it's like any of your own Twitter. Yeah, but it's just like Twitter, really. Anything else, right? You just can have a closed little club, which is great. Also, with this, she's back. Stacey, well, she wasn't gone last week, but she was supposed to say, I was here yesterday or last week last week. Host of Stacy's book club, Stacey higgin bought them from Stacy on IoT dot com and the IoT podcast with Kevin tofu. Hello, Stacy. Hello, y'all. Stacey higgin bought them. Stacy on IoT dot com at Giga Stacy don't forget to Stacey and Kevin show the IoT podcast and all of that. Also with us, mister Jeff Jarvis, you know him better as. That grumpy old man. The letter tower professor for journalistic innovation at the. Graduate school of journalism at the city university of New York, director of the Tate center, et cetera et cetera. Et cetera. Et cetera. Hello. Hello. How did you eat that entire bag of cacio E Pepe? No, no, I didn't last time I had it was last week, but I had some cacio E Pepe puffs before the show. I didn't want to make noise. I had to show Stacy my find. I am jealous. Is he salty snacks? They're all the best. Actually, Sunday we were talking on Twitter about the using chopsticks to eat spicy hot Cheetos so they don't get your fingers all orange. That's what people do for any sort of Doritos, a lot of the engineering programming friends do that. Yeah, because you want to have the snack while you're coding. But you really don't want to get orange on the keyboard. It's bad. Trust me, I know. Also with us from hands on photography and Pruitt. Also, the community manager of our fabulous club twit, you have you have a bunch of events coming up Georgia Dow be joining us for what do you call it fireside chat, any andco was mind bogglingly fascinating. His was an AMA, and that was so much. So there's a difference. You actually, there's a difference. The AMAs, I set it up to be geared.

"Think for Christmas, I am going to buy you the official corral version. But for Chris for variety, and share it with Craig, because he did inspire the whole thing. Absolutely. Yes, he does. We do this week in Google every Wednesday. It's two p.m. Pacific 5 p.m. eastern 2200 UTC. I say that because you can watch us make it live at live Twitter TV. If you're watching live chat live at IRC twit TV, or in our club twit Discord, which is always great fun. They're fabulous with the animated gifs and all sorts of other things. If you want to join club Twitter at 7 bucks a month, you get ad free versions of all of our shows, access to the Discord, Stacy's book group, I hear went really well. Actually, we have the room, man. Yeah, we had overflow. We figured out how to get more people in next time. And you're still trying to decide what book you're not going to do murder butts too for the next one. No, we want to open you up to more worlds. So there's a lot. I think we've got a week. It's a week long polls. So it's between autonomous, Ken lose latest book of short stories, autonomous is by annalee newitz and then ancillary justice by in lickey. And then whatever the I don't think anyone's voted for it. So whatever the Ken Luke is. So if you're in the club, go to the club twit events, channel in the Discord, and there's a link there that Stacey higgin bought a book club vote on the next book. It's a little complicated the way you vote is by clicking, I don't know, what do you do? You click a link down here at the bottom. To get there. Very, very bottom of the conversation. That's where who plays there. That's the Lakers Lakers. What was it called before was a Staples Center? It's always been the same. Since they did it. They built it before that they had to go to the forum. Was it the paper clip center before that? That would be okay. They've rebranded it. Staples has given up their branding to crypto dot com arena. "To prevent corruption. I trust. Yeah, anyway, yeah. Look, I love Google. We wouldn't be doing a show called this week at Google if we didn't think they were important. There was stuff of interest. We've been doing this show for ten years. And it's always been a matter of great interest. We use a lot of Google stuff, I want Google to do the right thing. I don't think they need to do the wrong thing. They make plenty of money. They don't need to cheat. It's fair to challenge them. I think it's fair to challenge them. I'm disappointed. I'm a little disappointed. And I think they got aggressively competitive. Look, it happens in Silicon Valley all the time. It happens to almost every company. That's the thing. Are you excited? No, I shouldn't be surprised. I believe them when they said don't be evil. I really believe them that they wanted to be a better company. And I think in the beginning, Larry and Sergey really did want to be a better company. But nothing. I also think it's the bigger you get the harder it is not to have more influence on people and to become evil to someone. Yes. This is what irritates me here in the case of amp itself is that they screwed up what should have been a holy cause, which is to fix media's web pages. The media media's web pages have gotten even worse, right? We got rid of pop ups for a brief moment in history and then they invented all kinds of new pop ups. Partly partly just tell you it's okay to it's the click off for the privacy stuff. But all the other stuff you have in all the stuff coming in and out. Media pages are terrible. They're irritating. They're slow. They move around. They're awful. And at one level, was supposedly there to help speed up the web and get back to a purer web. And that's why I was in favor of it. And it did that to an extent, but then it got obviously misused in other ways, which then hurts the cause of a better way. Yeah, which is a problem. Take a little break. Come back with more. Jeff Jarvis and Pruitt Stacy higgin bought them. I'm serious. We're all serious people. I missed you, guys. "With faint praise. I don't know again. He's not compared to what we're talking about. The waiver wire column that to me would not be the strongest of waiver add. Let's rip through a few more here. Matthew corey davis could call by you on the hate list. And there's probably pretty good reason. A zach wilson completed more passes to patriots defensive players than. He did corey davis on sunday to catches on five targets for eight yards. Yeah i'm not worried about it. I mean that was again. That's bill bell check. It's a rookie quarterback bat offensive line. They shut down corey davis. i think. Corey davis has much closer to week. One week two again. He was on the hate list. I i didn't want any part of him this week. But do i think he leads that team and targets and do i yes. I think that teams throwing a lot this year. Yes and do. I think he's a talented player. Yes so. I'm not to keep on your bench but he'll be fine going forward. Nice week for tyler boyd. Seven catches for seventy three yards. Kind of what. You were hoping for and expecting tyler martinez just two catches yesterday but both he antiguans found the end zone. So boy gets the volume. He needed to be on the radar. We talked about this fantasy football now. About hey you panicked about tyler born. We're no honestly going again. Look cooper cup did out of the slot. We like tyler boyd. Going against the bears that have struggled against the slot now through two games this season and so tell avoids talented. It's gonna there's quote unquote days like this for all those wide receivers three really talented passengers in cincinnati not to mention joe mixing. Who's a part of the passing game as well and so. If you have your marchesi got bailed out by the touchdown you would like to see in a little bit more usage but as all those guys established themselves. There's gonna be there's gonna be there's gonna be buoyed weeks higgin weeks and chase weeks and we find. But they're all fantasy viable. It is one of the best wide receiver groups in the nfl fantasy. Julio jones okay now. Julio jones looked much better yesterday than he did in week one hundred and twenty eight yard. And really this really should have been seven catches. One hundred and thirty four yards and a touchdown touchdown taking off the board yesterday insane. What a terrible call. Now before the podcast is that the spirit of replay the intention of replay is to overturn plays. That are clearly an obviously wrong to have conclusive video evidence if julio jones foot was out of bounds it was by a fingernail if the play had been called on the field incomplete. It should've remained incomplete. I made that exact point on twitter. I have no the problem. Is they call it a touchdown on the field and there was no from any angle. There was nothing inclusive about the fact that he stepped out. I'm like i. I agree with you. Had they called it incomplete on the field and they you know they through the red flag. I would've said keep it in complete. The call stands. This is a little inside thing but like when you hear a rough say the cost stands it. It means they don't have enough to overturn. But they say the calls confirmed that means they agree with the call so to me what it should have been. The call stands meaning like we don't know if it's right or wrong. But there's nothing conclusive enough for us. To overturn it to the call just stands and so that's what it should have been just when you hear restocking stalking by the way when they announced the crowd. That's what it means. The difference between stands in confirms and listen. I was happy about that. Just because you. And i are playing in the war room league. You have ryan tannehill and then also by the way i have. Julio jones on may hate list and another touchdown would have made that call even worse than it already was because as a bad call by me tuffah. Listen i i was wrong on julio this week but it was good to see it was good to see and the weird part though is. Aj brown tough game for him. It's been a tough game for that. Titans passing offense. That offensive line looks bad field. I think the hope though first of all the one hundred percent correct the hope is that what they saw in the second half when they got things going not just in the passing game but specifically in the running game is what is head for tennessee. Right as we all know. Derrick henry. Just an absolute. He was king yesterday in the second half. He was unbelievable. Was the big dog. No surprise that we saw a much more efficient passing game. When derrick henry is also running the ball very effectively one more and then i wanted to make sure he gets to his update on monday night. Football because we do have a couple of injuries that are important to monitor mike evans. You just mentioned in matthew end we all. We're optimistic that week one was going to be an aberration. And if you watch the opening drive yesterday of that. Buccaneers falcons game. I could be wrong. But i one hundred percent believe the. Tom brady heard everything about the quiet day. For mike evans and said that's the guy the target early in this game because he did. Yeah tom brady. Most quarterbacks are like this but there might be a better quarterback in the nfl in nfl. History than tom brady at this in terms of making sure multiple guys get involved keeping them active and interesting interested and not. The mike evans is in a pro. He is he would be. But honestly mike evans insanely talented wide receiver. He needs to be a big part of this buccaneers offense. We talked about this on fantasy football now sunday morning as well that we expected to be game for mike evans. Because he'd been quiet in week. One stout we gave on fantasy will now sunday morning. Where we said like look start. Mike evans don't panic. Is that last year. There were six different times. He was wide receiver forty five or worse and he's still finished last year as a top twenty fancy wide receiver. That's mike evans. There's gonna be some weeks down weeks you just have to start him every week and hope and obviously this is a weak that paid off. There's no question that tom brady. Wanted to get him. Evolves no by the way it's been two straight weeks of gronk big week for my cabins kind of a quiet day for antonio brown next week. He's gonna get antonio brown back involved like that's what they do. Tough match-up for brady as i believe. He plays the rams on sunday. He does play the rams in los angeles daniel. What are you got going to say. I think that mike evans is like the king. Size version of tyler. Lockett like title like the snacks. The snack size candy bar and mike evans is like the king size. We're like they both this part of it right. They're going to have weeks where you have some tough weeks and they're gonna have weeks where they both absolutely crushed it and you do it by the way very different wide. Receiver saying tyler lock. It's been real all Stefan you couple interrupt as before we get to monday night. Football is andrea swift. Going to play tonight for the toy line. Yes the plan is for the andrea swift. Play tonight. I always say the plant. The plan is that is what we are hearing. Is that the plan is pretty under swift to play tonight. But just remember during warmups double-check etc. In case you need to make a last minute switch and also.

Corey davis tyler boyd Julio jones mike evans Matthew corey davis zach wilson bill bell tyler martinez tyler born joe mixing marchesi higgin tom brady ryan tannehill nfl Aj brown

He got a gun machine in shoot on the roof the roof and coming down heat somebody on the lag and stuff and i now i wanna see wanna fight and i was very funny when then wireless fight was postponed for next week. They fought again with the same guy but might deal with who resolve how the fight with oiler go was a draw because we put damn guys from literally every then guys from shoud su in an auditorium closed doors and fight the guy to the end right so then they start to fight get punched in the face and what's the toof- and then the fight continues control the guy he put the guy in a bad position but not suit meeting and the guy said. Okay i wanna quit. If i was so bad. If i was smarter i said okay. Stop hyler win. But i was pleased in west. Wanna see highly revenge. The punch said okay. You just stopped the fight if you if you if you don't want to keep fighting keep building this guy and the guy the luther. Luther stood up and said paul but it's not a push him on. I push down like sit down and shut up. The guy was acquitted. You know he was not a tough brave guy so he don't wanna fight weeks away to fight to them so they keep fighting and eventually quite diet in both guitar so they agreed to stop. We want to stop. Okay stop so they stop and was a draw was I should stop the fight sooner and make quite a victory but was not exactly for me. It was not the politics or the was just. The guide is reserved some points in the face and highlighted. Mr gates from was missing point. What i want to see happen. Didn't happen man. Huytler is. He's he's i trained with oiler and he helped out academy here a lot man. What a great jitsu player he is. He's a water. I sure one hundred percent. It's kind of cool. You talked a little bit about forgiveness already today. But you you say this in the book looking back today on the fights between jew to and lou delivery i see them very differently at the time we were all young men full of aggression and testosterone the rivalry between our two martial arts made all of us better fighters. Steel sharpens steel. We should all be grateful for the fact that we always had the ability to fight one another respectfully although there were black is bloody noses and broken teeth are fights were always one on one and we're governed by honor and mutual respect. It was part of the natural competitive process. It was no accident that marco who else who got duarte denison. My year eugenie to do my brothers and some of my cousins. And i would all go on to fight mixed martial arts professionally in america and japan definitely a good attitude. Yes competitive but respectful against these. Other guys yes. He's the owner between fighters. You know he's not about. It's not something we've had you're having tagged you have to have respect that spiral of the code. You know his something. I i highly appreciate it. The next chapter in this book is coming to america. You say there was little left for me to prove in brazil. At that point. America is a bigger stage and more opportunity and i thought my kids would have a brighter future there when i decided to move to the us. Kim and i had been separated for over a year and a half. I went to see her and told her. I would like her to come with me and the kids and give our relationship another chance. She agreed to my offer. I wanted to make a fresh start. While i might have been the best fighter in the gracie family horan was by far the best promoter of gracie jiu jitsu. He was born salesman with a great product to sell. And nothing helps. Spread you to more than the portable video camera after oriented horry and came to america. He began challenging fighters from other styles at videotaping the bouts footage from these and other fights transformed. What would have been urban myths into documented. Truth in one thousand nine hundred eighty eight hoary on put together a video called gracie inaction which advertised in the back of martial arts magazines and sold by mail order. There you go. That's that's the beginning the beginning right there. That's when the word started to get out. Yes because you hear it but to see it as something totally different. Yes i mean. That's a brilliant marketing move. Hey come and fight. Anybody wants to come and fight and fight. We're gonna video it and then we're going to show it to the world. That's a brilliant move. I think so. True here was a genius on that. I know we fabio and i trained at fob. Us he had. He had some of those videos that weren't even in the videos and he would show them to us like on a special friday night. We'd get to watch some some real greasy and action videos people's arms get broken because they didn't want to tap exactly you go on here. Are students regularly fought and won challenge matches against other fighters and then converted them into students. Chuck norris for one. The actor in american martial arts icon was not only a great supporter but was also dedicated student who eventually earned his black belt in the nineteen eighties. Norris took a vacation in rio everywhere. You went here about greasy jujitsu and the exploits of my family. Norris contacted my dad and arrange to have a private lesson. After i grappled with them. My dad told north to mountain. And when he he did said okay. Chuck punch me the american hesitated. But my dad was was in his seventies by then but elio kept insisting finally norris drew back his arm to punch but before we could throw one the old man and choked him out. Chuck left brazil impressed by the gracie. Family invited us to come to america and hold a seminar for students fast. Forward a little bit. Hoary on in the actor had a disagreement over money. This is one of those seminars. Chuck norris hired our cousins. The machado brothers. Carlos higgin hajer. Jacques and john to teach him. The machado's came from a more stable upper middle class background than we did. Their father was a judge and they did not grow up in rio. Not only were they much more reasonable than horry on. They were great jitsu fighters and teachers in their own right. My cousin. Jacques machado is an inspiring person. Who went on to become one of the greatest jujitsu teachers in america. Born with only a thumb and part of a pinkie on one of his hands. Jean-jacques learn to adapt an improvise. Better than anyone i ever seen. His jujitsu is both intensely personal and creative. So you had the machado. Brothers now. Teaching chuck norris. Yes but you did. There's a there's a video of you going against chuck. Norris isn't there is little mistake on that view that video the seminar Very strong dog. Bronx guy who was a stroke knowledge. Good stood up. Fighting was not chuck at that time. Got it i spy i teach him a few times and spar him so he knows our power but the training was not with him. And i You showed up in in america unique speed. You didn't speak any english. Did you know where tori and learn to speak english. He come be prior that he come a few times to america in the seventies and stop so he he loved here the culture in statue learning and working different jobs.

"I'm rj bell. We are straight out of vegas said. I'm jonas knocks voice of you the fan and rj. It is a friday which means we send people into the weekend with multiple best bats. We like bill murray in caddyshack where he didn't got stiff by the dalai lama but he had like prof eternal happiness. At least that going for get you four best bads three of them in the ufc first. Aj hoffman and actually aj's coming on full time with us. He still finishing up in. Houston this is a week. He'll be here and he should be a key part of the show. He is a ufc expert and a radio full-time radio guy. He's been winning. A lot with these picks are so. I'm gonna say let's go to best bat number one best bit. Adrian is by ko or tko minus one. Ten does a fantastic match up of two guys who are going to be looking for a big knockout win. They have a lot in common but there are some key differences that leamy towards janas here janas a lifelong striker box since he was a child and it shows his technique is on par with the best guys in the ufc. Cost probably has more pure power but janas has never been finished in a fight. The other thing that makes me like janas. Here's he's battle-tested kosta was one of the least prepared guys to make it to. The paper came in with a four zero record less than three minutes of cage time. He's been to a second round once and completely gassed. Before he lost that fight janas battle-tested. He knows it surviving. Pasta initial flurries is going to put him in the driver seat. Where i think he gets a second round finish. Where do you think of that. Jones yeah mean. Aj would know better than i would as far as just the in depth research on the amount of time he spent in the cage all. That's that's real ufc expert. I i don't have that. Sorta indepth knowledge for sure. We'd like to get your opinion though you've been on a hot streak now second and final one best bet number two from. Aj hoffman main event. Tj dillashaw corey san hagan. I'ma go with san hagan inside the distant minus one twenty. tj's coming off a long drug suspension and now comes into this fight as thirty five year. Old man not the fresh-faced young buck. That took one thirty five by storm back. In twenty fourteen san hagan obviously on the shortlist of future contenders bantamweight and after he blitz through frankie edgar in twenty eight seconds. He solidified himself as a legend killer. Looking to take the torch. The next legends should be tj. Here who's not fought since twenty nineteen has not won since twenty eighteen. His chin was already becoming a question back then. It has to be a concern now. It's hard to picture dillashaw controlling him too much with his wrestling in. If you can't keep san higgin on the mat. It's almost impossible for me to picture this fight lasting five rounds corey san hagan inside the distance minus one twenty. What do you think of that john. That was exactly the pick that i was gonna make. Which is that was exactly the wind sand. Hey it's awesome. His one loss was against al jemaine sterling. It was sort of a cottam quick in a choke early in the fight. There was no real damage done. But since then he's been dominant including that great. Knockout knock out of the year contender against frankie edgar who one of the all-time grades. And then he got dillashaw z. Pointed out coming off a lengthy drug suspension to go five rounds against killer in his prime. Like corey san hagen. I think he's a minus two hundred favored a two to one favorite to win the fight but minus one ten to one twenty depending on where you look to win inside the distance. I love san hagen as well too. I mean think about this. We got the pearl. The beautiful voice. Joan is the knowledge obviously age as a professional radio. Guy both giving you paid. I kind of feel proud right now. I mean for me. They had to give me a phonetic spelling on. Nee san hagen and two of them. They were spelled different than was different. Phonetic spellings on each other stop. Here's what i'll say moving to the nfl. I'll give a more detailed pick on this in the in the next week or two. But i'll give you the pick pretty quick right here. I want the bears to win the nfc north. Here's why they got a new quarterback. I mean they get their baseline. With andy dalton. But there's a chance and whenever you're picking an underdog in we're getting four to one on this four to one on the bears whenever you're picking underdog you're worried about the top four of the performances. They could give you and the bears could very well have quarterback play much better than any dalton if you're baton over under you care about the top fifty percent so you always get ask yourself. What extremes are you looking at with the bat in this case. We're looking for a nice four to one extreme. The bears could be better. We know they at quarterback we know they have a good defense. We can debate has fallen a little bit for me. It's more about this minnesota. I wasn't totally sold on today's disruption. I it is going to be politically in that locker. Room is a negative and we know with. Aaron rodgers is chance. Want him to be there but if he is. This is a guy that's had not great years five of the last six years. The one year was when he was extra motivated. Is he going to be extra motivated. Now i don't think so. Bears four to one to win the division. We'll get into more details soon if you missed any of today's show including multiple best bets and a look at the latest news surrounding vaccines issues with multiple teams in the nfl. "higgin" Discussed on Boomer & Gio

"Everything that happens here. Go run put they go ask katie gala. Hey here higgin gallos. What do you think about that lineup. Over at the fan holy smokes. Okay well today. We'll see if he could gala is in the lineup or not jordan. Montgomery makes the start taking on four. Hey lopez will have the game on the fan coverage at twelve twenty five Later on today as for the mets they wound up losing to the red sox one nothing they had a grand total of count them one to two hits to lousy hits in nine innings of baseball and fifteen strikeouts James mccann was asked if the pause they had an. They're weird schedule with. The weather has had something to do with their atrocious offense. Really there's no excuse the layoff that we had after spring training is kind of just been a running thing of where we've gotten we've missed games. We've had rain outs Guys are trying to get a feel I mean you can name a bunch of things but the end of the day. There's no excuse. Well it's a good standup answer. And jacob degrom as you said he would both the guys when asked about no run support and not winning and only given up a few hits he says boy can give up that run there in the second to make Make pitches when. I needed to You know left of all over the middle bogart's hit the double in just wasn't able to execute on those next few batters to get us out of that has been forbidden. Gives one lousy running. Gets the loss and he did. He had nine strikeouts in six innings. And nothing we'd takes the l. mets philadelphia tomorrow night last night. The phillies beat the cardinals. Five to three. The sixth inning was definitely the story. Play this for you earlier. It's the sound off. Nbc sports phillies. Bryce harper the first batter in the six facing genesis. Cabrera i offering by cabrera renta face. It deflected into his face. Yeah and what was crazy was. After harper came out pinch runner he was actually okay. Believe it or not. The very next batter was one. Gis steve gregorious was up. Next is now didi. Goes down yeah. That's john crux. And all man. joe girardi came out. He got himself jackson and rightly so his reaction after the game right. If you're really protecting the players obviously he doesn't have he's got to go the third pitchy through and i'm not making this up so you got first and second nobody out. Andrew mccutchen is up. He throws the ball into the dirt like five feet before plate. The fourth page a ball in the dirt that mccutchen actually swung and missed on and then the fifth pitch was a rbi single the left. And at that point he was allowed because The rebound rule right mccarthy makes the point after he d doesn't he got to come get them and get them out of the game. Can't crux like no. He's got a face a third batter so as soon as the ball hit the bat he was out. So here you go. Here's a collateral of that new. You're absolutely nobody thought of this. Nobody nobody nobody their wildest dreams could have thought of this and this doesn't happen very often. Maybe once out of a thousand times this happens. I don't know of anything will if you think about it. What was was it stanton. Is the last player that got hit square in the face. By a fastball. So independent the next pitch would hit a guy. I don't think that's ever happened. Well uh teams thrown at each other and then is happening but it's different the case here. This kid was just wild yes he was all and you could tell by his reaction that he had no control right and maybe the empire has to step in and say okay. Come on get outta here. Let's go. it's let's joe geordies point. Yeah maybe joe made a very good point there. I if i if i were my guys be ticked off to no question especially that you know harper gets hit right in the face and it wasn't as tom mccarthy said it wasn't deflected his face he caught the ball face yes it basically smashed his nose into a skull and somehow he was already an instagram thing. If you were hockey player he would have come back in the game in baseball. Allow the guy out of the game on the doors hockey. You put right back in the game after he goes back and get the stitches. No shift change in regularly baseball first round of the nfl draft tonight as we mentioned also of note here the giants to exercise their fifth year option on saquon barkley. Teddy bridgewater is traded to the broncos. You mentioned the nhl. Your beloved rangers take on your second love and the islanders down. An comedown son-in-law plays and the devils we listen. We know the truth and the devils face. Your mind real quick. What you're talking. Because i find this interesting yes so a couple years ago. Conor mcgregor was arrested for assault. He punched a man in a bar. He wound up buying the bar this week and he promptly posted that that man that he assaulted is banned for life. Got really good. That is funny so yes so we have that as well all right. Thank you jerry. That's a fact credit card purchases. Give me cash bad. No one else gets these rewards watching. What intern nation. Vr mcgann's a good one. Short of getting that feeling about a potential. What celebrity couple. I think the forces are aligning where they're coming together where it could be the single most insufferable couple on earth. Okay can i guess go ahead. The mail has to be a rod. Yes okay the female has to be. Kim kardashian yes. I don't know why i thought that. But the way that you phrased that the way that you put that maybe they'll buy a team what what's one spine the timber. Wolves right he is. He already has lost the timber wolves and lynx. So this is this is probably why you're thinking to both of them. Are doing the revenge body thing you know the revenge bod. It's like yeah you break up with somebody and then all of a sudden you're back in shape so and they're posting about so every other. Kim story is an instagram post of her. Like reading a book in a bikini her doing something. She's just like she's out there the back door it any different than anything else. She's because it's ratcheting up there's more of it and then a rod yesterday posts a before and after of him december twenty twenty april twenty twenty one where he slimmed december twenty twenty has gone to the pandemic. The rest of us probably put on some pounds not long. It was just this past december. So there j. jaylo kick them to the curb because his fan. I don't think that was it now. I think it was a whole thing with that. Southern charm actress in what was Going on there but anyway but these two now are posting their revenge pods. They both love themselves. They both loved the spotlight. Both very rich. There's a feel good thing about what's going on right here right now single at the same time and it's just you could feel the magnet. You we to have a thing for things like this. So i i I have to agree with you. That's why i said because you. You definitely know this stuff. I think iran would probably reach out to her. I don't think she would reach out and emiri in a mediaries get involved. Well i do. But i think they rod would instruct his people to reach out to her people. They're at least going to go on a date jury sue crate.

Color-coded Runways

"Let me tell you that this is borderline genius. If you ask me, this is just borderline genius all right? Let's color code the runways. I like that it's it's. KINDA UNIQUE DEER VALLEY Because they have a lot of rocks it wouldn't work a lot of other locales OKO although. Fake being what it is, we would probably discover that. Harrison Ford is colorblind but. That was Hodgson agent. Now is just an easy Joko. It's too easy. Sorry about that Harrison. I know he's a listener and It's kind of a clever idea. So this is we found this from a listener I think he's a listener, but a tweet twitter guy Ryan Ewing Nine high-ranking guy. What did I say? You Twitter Guy Twitter? Guy Yeah I. Don't know what the on twitter at twitter guy. We're all twitter guys in this day and age. He tweeted he tweeted. The Phoenix area is one of the most popular regions for flight training as such mistakes do happen. Runway landings have occurred Deer Valley airport. He writes owned by the city of Phoenix Arizona has a unique solution to prevent this different colored rocks surrounding each runway. So basically the what what I would think of as being the grass around the runway apparently is gravel. Zona 'cause grasping grow real quickly. You said wrong way. That's not correct. Wrong runway wrong runway landings. Oh! If I said runway. That was a mistake. You're absolutely right. That was Corrigan Corcoran. Different meaning different meaning. ANYWAYS so they've done apparently have done it with colored gravel. The terrain surrounding the runway and taxiways has a distinct color to it and but I want to know whether ATC, do they say you know land on Purple? Runway, purple instead of instead of landing on on the green dot at Oshkosh. Read read one roster. I can't say one way. Runway Yeah Right. Valley. QUIT GLENN! Wait. Never. Only one drawback or Weakness in it. Being told to land on the color runway doesn't tell you which way on the colored runway will now. That's true. True, but you they could say. Let's see what are. Let's just assume that these are two seven and nine there probably not exactly that. Zuma would picture. It should cut down on the confusion on. is at this piece. Is Strip payment or that? Oh! This is the one surrounded by green now which way on that runway? It's seventy five. Seventy five, so they'll say land on runway to five purple or I don't. Know they'll say land on runway to five left the purple one, which happens to be perfect. Yeah, that'd be an interesting question, Ryan, if you're a listener Give us anything in the in the in the follow up in the responses here, let's see. Someone else made my hair. Practice four joke, but there's a lot of colorblind jokes. CH-. Help for blind pilots. That's that's. This is also true. Well. That's yeah I know. Are Up sorry. From flight DECK IS HE THERE'S A. Problem, with death pilots, because they just don't listen. Higgin hi. Let's just discard this recording is. Really really know all right so. colorizing runways. I I hadn't thought of that I hadn't thought about the. Air! Venture colored dots, thing which apparently is wildly effective. I've haven't landed on those runways during those type. Jeb. You have obviously. Is it I. Don't know what's your reaction to that system as a pilot who's used operated on and off it? It works I mean. A IT works well I'll be seems to work well. I haven't landed on the dots that often. Over the years generally I will get in before the show opens, and although the dots are there, I'm I'm. ABC is not asking me to land on them. generally there's been a few years at that's been. Landed on the DOTS, but they're easy to spot and and. My only concern. In the past has been when landing on the first dot of the runway the one I come to. Its. Knowing, that there's a bunch of traffic and knowing that the runway is constantly in use. My only concern is getting run over from behind

A 50-year low in jobless claims is not just from fewer layoffs

"A brief discourse. As we begin today on jobs. We talk about a Milan because their jobs and people need them routing a couple of hundred thousand every month in this economy. The unemployment rate as we learned Friday is the lowest it's been in fifty years and tomorrow, we will get another labor market metric something called the first time jobless claims people signing up for unemployment benefits for the first time, which is by the way, also at historic lows over the past year. But as marketplace's Sabrina show reports there is something other than the tight labor market behind. Why those claims are this low one reason fewer people are filing for unemployment. These days is because it has gotten harder and harder to file for unemployment. These days actually difficult. You know, it's just like other state agencies on it's very hard to get through amber, go Hagan lives in South Carolina in two thousand thirteen the legislature. Are there passed a sweeping overhaul of unemployment benefits, reducing the number of weeks? People could be on employment and the amount they could receive up in South Carolina. The max is only three twenty six week, you know, and obviously my bills keep going go higgin hasn't actually even started to receive any benefits yet. She's locked in a battle with the state over whether she qualifies in the first place states have been doing things to make it harder to get benefits in the first place and they've been doing things to make it harder to keep benefits. Once you have them. Michelle evermore is senior researcher at the national employment law project. She says this trend started after the recession when some unemployment insurance funds were rundown. So there's basically two ways to deal with a depleted unemployment insurance fund. One is just to fund the fund, but the second thing is to cut benefits some states have reduced. The number of unemployment offices in favor of online portals that in some cases, have proven dysfunctional nine states have reduced the length of time people can receive benefits to less than the standard twenty six weeks. Some like North Carolina went as low as. Just twelve weeks. South Carolina went to twenty. We were very happy with the change in the length of time. Ben homebuyer, direct South Carolina, which represents small businesses that pay taxes to support the unemployment insurance fund, the NFL be lobby to limit unemployment insurance in that state and Homer says those taxes have come down as a result. I mean, you could be on unemployment for years, and you know, in a lot of cases, we were concerned that there was was less incentive to come off of unemployment. How many weeks unemployment is enough is debatable data show that in today's economy people are unemployed for longer than in decades past just Rothstein is a professor of public policy and economics at UC Berkeley, the approach that we've taken over the last seventy years is that twenty six weeks is about the right amount of time in non recessionary times longer. When the economy goes south the results of tightening unemployment benefits, making them less accessible show up in the national numbers back in two thousand seven thirty five. Percent of unemployed workers were getting benefits today. Only. Twenty seven percent are fewer unemployed workers are even applying for unemployment to begin with these changes mean that those looking often don't get as much help as they used to sue Berkowitz directs the South Carolina Appleseed legal Justice center at talk with people who will call and say, I was turned down. I don't have any savings. I'm going to lose my home in a where can I turn? Where can I go so McConnell argue this will pose a bigger problem in the future? When benefits are needed even more Michelle evermore with the national employment law project. What's going to happen is we're gonna wait until there's a recession, but it will be two eight it's possible that the federal government would step in were there. Another national recession offer federal benefits pressure states to expand. There's Vincent Reinhart is chief economist at Mellon. I don't particularly worried right now that states are cutting back asymmetrically because when the time comes they'll get the nudge to put them back in place then again. Will they Jesse Rothstein a UC Berkeley again in practice? Those take awhile several months after after it's really needed. And that was in times when the federal government was better able to pass legislation than it is right now putting back unemployment benefits in a strong economy has saved some states money, but when a new recession hits, that's where some people start to be afraid. The repercussions are unclear
