Fresh update on "hicks" discussed on Yanks Go Yard: A New York Yankees podcast
"How do you possibly get around on that heavy come through in the clutch? Is Minnesota that strong is Minnesota? That strongly contributing factor to the Yankees success. I guess, because that game was completely out of character for this team. And it ended in the most out of character way possible. So you got a hole behind the diamond that needs to be filled. You've got Andrew Velasquez, hanging out, triple-A seasons over, doing nothing. Instead, they've decided to reshuffle the entire infield, which wouldn't be quite as much of a problem if le mayhew Torres and her shella had all even equated, you know, they don't have to exceed expectations. You don't even have to reach them. You just have to get in the ballpark. None of the three have done that. Brett Gardner has been one of the best players for the past two months. None of that is what should be happening. There should be a Frasier time should be involved in this team somehow and he's not. Aaron hicks was supposed to be here. He's not. So they don't have a center Fielder in the future. Yet, the immediate future, they don't have a middle infield sorted out. I don't think Anthony Rizzo's coming back. And I don't know if there's been a reason over the past month and a half to bring Anthony Rizzo back. I think this team is close, of course. The minor league system has every level player has outperformed expectations significantly. Anthony vault is now someone who must be game planned for. There's pitching a double-A. There are a lot of interesting pieces. If only the eggs are willing to supplement it in free agency this year, or maybe pull off another cashman pitching trade. But you know, they're not terribly far off, but they are dangerously close to being stuck in a cycle. And the players are certainly to blame because again, you know, the first through the boring first half, we said, any other combination of players would be more interesting in this group and would perform better..

"Five charges murder one like premeditated murder tampering with evidence because apparently he like broke the knife and all that three parts and all that tampering with witnesses because they had him on tape in the county jail in mdc telling people if they ask questions. I'll tell him shit then. They had these two girls and that said that he admitted. I just killed eric or i just left him for dead or wherever. Okay so i mean you could see how confusing this is. I mean it's like oh my god okay. So then murderer. Juan tampering with evidence tampering with witness and to mar okay. The fi- charges five charges. And i'll never forget that day. James told me that. Because i was in the bathtub and robert brought the phone and said here's jayme so they wouldn't give their robber. Any information was in the bathtub. Talking to james. James had five charges pie charts. Now this is a court date in albuquerque. If you can't make it s okay you don't need to be. There is an. He told me. I have specifically say the grand jury. They can't take charges way if they don't think that it's worth you know. Or they can add more yet at more exactly. So i said okay and he said if i if i if you if you show up you know i'll find you if not out quite robert came over mark and i think he said james called. Here's the phone. He said because he could give specifics but he said he just told me to tell you we got him on all five. And i was like. Oh my god. Oh my god off five okay hall. Vindication justice justice for eric. Okay so then. I don't even know how long was later. I get a call. One eight phone rang. I is some woman she says on the prosecutor were giving him deal for second degree murder. I mean right. I just i wanted to fe. I just like i was like. I don't understand what you're saying. You know like i don't get it. What do you mean you know. Well the two girls attest that that gave their statements during interviews like an investigation was a lawyer up. And so they're not going to be credible anymore. I sound get it. I don't get it like didn't they. Go in and be interrogated. Don't like get videoed or like write down in their own words. I mean i've watched enough in law and order to know that you know what i mean like. Okay so i mean both of them really both of them. Of course they want lawyers now going to core for a murder trial you know yet and having a lawyer doesn't mean you're not credible. Yeah what is. That's what i'm saying like..

What Is Intuitive Eating?
"So for people who are listening and this may be the first time you are hearing about the term intuitive eating. Maybe you're new to our podcast. I think it's a good idea to start with a general definition on one into beating his. I have scoured the interwebs for a definition. That is concise that. I really like and it happens to be by eliza ramsey who is a dietitian that has been on our podcast a couple times to talk about intuitive eating and her definition is intuitive. Eating is an approach to health and food. that has nothing to do with diets. Meal plans disipline or willpower. It teaches you how to get in touch with your body's natural cues like hunger fullness in satisfaction while learning to trust your body around food again so really intuitive meaning was founded in. Here's me that's the end of the definition intuitive beating was founded by two registered dieticians. Evelyn aaa who's been on our podcast and a least rash as a response to chronic dieting. So intuitive eating is essentially the of a diet and it's really learning to get in touch with your body and your unique needs. There are ten principles of intuitive eating. And i'm not going to go into all of them. You can get the book if you wanna learn more. Or there's we have a ton of podcast episodes about this. But you know number one is rejecting the diet mentality remembering. It's not about your like a willpower or being a failure. It's this system of diet culture. That really sets us up to fail. Another principle that i loved to discuss with clients is feeling your fullness right. So what is comfortable. Fullness feel a hick in your body and you know. How do we try to respect our fullness right how do we respect our body. Respect our our bodies kind of predetermined wheat in shape. So there's a lot to it. That is a very over-simplified definition of intuitive eating but i think a good place to

Interview With Kelly Keller
"In today's guest is former. Alpa employees kelly. Keller kelly under private pilot's license. When she was just twenty years old she comes from a family of aviation and she calls herself a spoiled brat of aviation which seems a little harsh until you realize. She grew up flying where their father and a stagger wing. For most of her youth she learned to fly in tabora so at age nineteen got a private licence at twenty and she's been flying ever since she's worked for textron. Ao pa and now. She's currently the regional sales manager for the southeast for garment kelly. Thanks so much for joining us on the there. I was podcast so kelly. You have quite a hair raising story about flying your family back. In one. seventy two from gaskins white river resort on the way back to hicks airfield. You're flying. you're flying clubs one seventy two and experienced an engine failure. Yeah it was. It was definitely kind of the perfect storm of of situations because it was supposed to be a husband and my baby moon so to speak at seven months pregnant with our first child and had him in the airplane Labrador retriever in the backseats. Obviously mailo co-pilot with me. Yeah we were going to gaskins. White river resort for one last hurrah. It was a great trip really recommend going but on the way back i was over. Really ozark ozark mountains without many airports nearby and smoke in the cockpit. That was my first indication that there is something wrong. Obviously and i could tell. It was kind of an oily smell. But at that point it's just troubleshooting and making sure that i couldn't see that there is anything obvious. Obviously on fire or anything fatso. It's daytime is weather in issued is cleared a million Daytime midday without eleven noon timeframe. Okay in a about what time of years this this is november. So this is november last year. Okay great and about what altitude were you cruising it. So at that time. I was about to say it was about thirty five hundred feet. I wasn't up super high africa. Main reasons i was on fire away. I did not file a flight land as you know probably very few listeners would have this problem but when sediments fragment you probably need to stop somewhere young so we were we were kind of kind of just on an the our flight plan all away and having a good time and Joying enjoying barklay gut. It's the you had about a three hour flight or so home beautiful day. You just had a fabulous vacation with your husband. And you just kinda sauntering back really you know you're going to stop somewhere and you're up at three thousand feet which looks like maybe it's roughly a thousand feet ag l. or sos based on the terrain up there in that part of the country. And just flying back enjoying yourself until all the sudden you kind of start to smell a little bit of something in. Did you say you saw some smoke. Pretty much immediately fell the cockpit and you know when when that happens you always think through what that might look like in in just in our training figure out what your action plan is but until that happens to you. It's really startling. So the first thing i did was has started troubleshooting. Okay is it. Electrical is clearly a fire knows. I opened up the windows just to try to get some mayor his. Obviously i'm very cognizant of of what i'm reading that i'm you open. Open up the windows. He'll the cabin heat. Which is a crucial component. When it came down to it once they killed the cabin he smoke stopped so it was like okay you know. It's it smelled oil. A tell it was something like that and at that point dover might well pressure gauge and it was at zero at that point mike. My husband's a mechanical engineer. He's used overcrowded in a drone engines. Actually so he's very aware of of what that means is well. Luckily i was already talking to air traffic control since i was on the afar calling for that that type of a trip so immediately off with them and get them to try to at least for me to the closest
"hicks" Discussed on Radicalize Me
"Alright i'm here with kendra hicks Who is running for boston City council for the sixth district. Thanks so much for being here. Thank you so much for having me. So how has it been. Just you know campaigning. Over this past crazy year yeah So i mean definitely not what i expected. i think. campaigning. In general I think i was going to have the same reaction. Not what i expected even if we weren't in the middle of a pandemic because the world of campaigning so new to me and so different than doing community organizing work that i'm kind of used to doing but i think that it's been particularly difficult to run a campaign in the middle of a pandemic Particularly in a way that safe mostly because your goal is to the most voters and to talk to people anti get people to vote for you in the election to get people to know who you are. And it's really difficult when everybody is cooped up inside the house not outdoors prior to my campaign in september so it was right when the cold weather was starting. And so we've been really pushed to think creatively about how to reach voters Digital direct mail phone calls And we've kind of just making do with what we have right now. yeah And so so. How does it work. It's most of these like city. Positions are nonpartisan. Is that right. Yep so are. Is every candidate kind of just an like an independent candidate like how does how does funding work like is there any sort of infrastructure. Yes so there isn't there is infrastructure It's bipartisan race. And so the basic what that means is at the top. Two vote getters regardless of party. get on the ballot also however many people running the primary you have the primary election. Whoever the top two vote getters are get on the ballot. I think one of the things that we there's resources for example democ that you have access to be registered as a democrat voter files and all those kinds of things and so those are available to us as candidates but that's kind of like the infrastructure that exists. It's people registered you raise. Money ed's the to top getters get on the ballot yet. So is it something where i assume like a state or city like democratic party couldn't like endorse a city council candidate and an assist them or is that is that allowed or yeah. That's actually ... a really good question. I'm not sure. I think i would lean towards a no. Because even the resources that we get like when things like boat builder who have all the border files we still have to pay for that stuff. like the the state and city democratic party kinda hosts it but we still have to pay for access to that So yeah so. That's a really good question. But as far as i know i would think no. Just because we're both we would both be a part of the democratic party but i'm not. I'm not too sure how the intricacies of the democratic party work. I am not going to act like there's any reason. Yeah well you know so you. You're the first candidate. I've had on And i i wanted to start with someone local. Because that's after you know the twenty twenty election in the two thousand sixteen election. We're particularly disappointing for me for a lot of people And i started thinking over the past year. Like how can how can we better serve our political interests. Like what else can we do. And part of that is Activism which is the main thing i started the show for was to have activists on and have them tell me until the listeners. Like what can we do And then the other thing that occurred to me was like what about local elections. I hear a lot of people complain about the parties. And i see the george washington quote passed around all the time like we shouldn't have political parties. I would be terrible and it's like well. There's actually elections all around. You don't involve parts necessarily Yeah i think it's i do think that it's important. I think that as as as community organizers we know how important local elections are we know how important local politics are. Because you know i mean all politics are local. But ultimately we know that the people in local office Have the power to kind of support. The work that's already happening on the ground right and to make sure that conditions are kind of supporting the work that the people are doing in terms of local politics until for me i think about electoral politics and community organizing work as being. Kind of like a symbiotic relationship. Wear their two separate roles I wouldn't even say that one is more important than the other. I think for people in communities it is but i also think that Electoral office has a disproportionate amount of weight. Because of the power. Right like there's a power dynamic there because city councils have that power. And so i do think that it has a disproportionate kind of like. Oh you know electoral

Although police have made no mention of race, some social media posts are already characterizing the incident as another black man killed by police being open Transparent investigation or probes ongoing, led by the Seattle Police Force Investigation Unit. And began firing at officers returned fire and hit the suspect that unidentified man died. Officers quickly found two victims at the scene both shot multiple times. One of the victims has since died. No, let's says it's too early for more details. The investigation will be conducted by the Seattle Police Department by the Force Investigation unit. How to Stand Out in a Fitness Revolution with Khalil Zahar
"Today we'll be talking about how to stand out in a fitness revolution because we are parts of a fitness revolution. I can tell you that right now. I mean i've got peleton in my gym right here on thinking about getting a mirror i mean. There's there's a lot of things that are going on. In this world it is a revolution so khalil. That leads me to my first question of why boxing like did you see a trend in the boxing space or is this more born from a passion for the sport. Yeah it's a great question. You know our story really tells that answer well so a lot of people know us for fight camp today but we actually originally started with a product called hicks so h. y. k. S which was like a terrible name But basically are. I started boxing in my life. Pretty late when it was about Twenty one years old and you know my background is actually more in soccer. But i really wanted yet. I fell in love with the sport. And i wanted to compete in studying competitive sport. The twenty one years old. It's it's you know you're kind of behind so at that point. I really wanted to shortcut my way to the east of lucien possible. That was very really adamant about you. Know having the best training regimen possible really tried to optimize single aspect of it and that led us know me to do you want to measure myself on a regular basis and there was not a lot of measuring out there for boxing specific stuff so we created this first version of the product. That's our punch trackers you with them on your race. The calculate the types of country throw measures the speed of every punch and you could recreate performance profile it and that went on to be a very successful product elite community you know. We had multiple olympic teams using it a lot of pro boxers in pro ufc fighters using it And then because boxing anime kickboxing Is a very special sports. Where ninety five percent of. It's not like ninety nine percent of the people that engage in it actually don't entering the ring and get hit but just do it for the fitness aspect of it so we can you know our initial products stuttered to spill two very different. You know typical customer and that kind of drought. It drew us into the fitness world. Fire nation. i really want you to just think that. Hey there's multiple ways to kind of make your start. make your splash. Is it because of a trend or is it because of a passion can it. Maybe be a combination of both. I mean that can kind of be where a zona fire lies. And they can really be a spark. And then of course lease to we can flag ration- and khalil for you. Since you started fight camp how have you seen the connected. Fitness industry evolve. How would just are connected to other people live or you know whether we've got stuff strapped on this. This is kind of connecting all of our stats. What we're doing here. I mean are people working from home. Instead of gyms is actually become the norm. Absolute thing it. It will be for portion of the majority of the portion of the fitness community. I think we're still you know like obviously with covid things have been accelerated loved. But you know we really believe that in the long run working out in a workout room makes a lot more sense to have in your home the same way. You actually have living room in the same way. You have a home theater in a big screen. Tv and a kitchen. We think it's going to be an extension part of our living spaces just because it's not something you you you're doing only once a month you know like a good fitness routine will engage in it at least at least three times a week so you know having to add friction every time that you have to do this with the commute and having to hit the class right on time where it starts. We just don't think it's aligned with the frequency in which you have to engage with it so that's one aspect. The second aspect is like home fitness. Home fitness is very popular today but it started a long time ago You know. And i'm sure some people remember jazzercise tai-bo that was really like the the beginning of the category but you know it led to a lot of like scan products especially specifically like in the late nineties. A lot of infomercial at the end of the night like black and white. And you don't train trying to target people that really wanted to buy a dream but now this silly inc a fitness and a healthy lifestyle and i can feel that this new generation of companies are lot more thin. -tic they're genuine. They're offering a better way and they're not targeting someone who's you know trying to press on the fact that you know you may not feel good about yourself. Look at all these people in shape. But they're they're targeting a healthy lifestyle. And i think they're building the products accordingly as well. I mean khalil. It's critical these days to stand up above the noise to be unique from your competition. I mean that just every industry a hundred percent across the board and let's be honest. Cop is fierce in the fitness space. So what specifically have you done to make fight camp standout. We're yet to see a serious competitor in boxing and kickboxing right. Like we. You know we. There's some concepts out there but you know when we started it was not about. You know trying to beat the competition. It was more. You know like there's a very unique opportunity here and being the first to bring a connected experience to boxing and kickboxing from home. And you know. We thought the power of teaching people how to do boxing. Well was also like you know a statement for you. Know the growth of boxing with a lot of franchise that were growing as well. You know like pre covid. Boxing gyms and kickboxing gyms. The nation were growing very very fast. It was becoming a very big fast-growing exercise that was gaining in popularity. But you know. Boxing is not easily. You know it's not easily accessible in terms of flake. There's a lot of technique you can just get a bag and hit it but it is not proper boxing. You actually have to develop the foundation you have to. You know work on your reflexes and then you have to know why you through a certain bunch and why you don't throw that certain bunch and how to move so we wanted to provide in the centric experience and at the same time naked interactive and. There was nobody else that was doing that at a time. Fire
California Democrats Liken Newsom Recall Effort To Extremist ‘Coup’
"The race card in creative ways just never ceases to amaze me. There is a recall effort right now to get rid of the governor of California because of the Over the restrictions. People are just steamed in this state. And his popularity has taken a toll. And now they're gathering signatures to Get a recall effort on the ballot, and first it was a joke, and then somebody donated a great deal of money. Would always stop these efforts is the inability to hire enough people to gather the signatures. Now there's enough money to hire enough signatures to Get enough signatures that are necessary in order for this recall effort to go forward to now. Started take it seriously. And guess what? His Top aide said about the or the top California Democrat, The California head of the Democratic Party's name is Rusty Hicks. I don't know what he said about the recall effort. Quote. This recall effort really ought to be called the California coup. Showing you how they've keeping the work Who Because President Trump now has been accused of giving a speech to incite a coup. Shows you that the word doesn't mean anything. Oh, this recall effort, which really ought to be called the California coup. Is being led by right wing conspiracy theories. White nationalists. Anti vaxxers And groups who encourage violence to our democratic institutions into quote. Never mind how steam people are in this state about it being shut down the most shut down state in the union having the most cases in the union. Suggesting that to set down measured are not working. And it's being dismissed as being led by White nationalists. No, let's take it issue. Figure out it's somehow converted into a racial issue. That way we'll get liberals and people of color to be steamed. What they do. Mm. The Air Force vet female Air Force that he was killed. On that Wednesday with white Capitol Hill police officer who shot and killed her. Was white. The other officers who was officer who was murdered. With white. Most of the protesters appear to be white. So let's have a thought experiment, says Joe Biden, says Chris Cuomo. Says other lefties about what would have happened even though it didn't what would happen even though it didn't what would have happened? Had more process has been black because after all Black lives matter. Protests was dealt with far more aggressively than this. All designed to let you know. That you are constantly eternally always always a victim, no matter what you're doing. Matter whether you're involved. The victim.

"Yeah it's only punter. I know for my own movie. Not he's talking minus mark. What are you got. I can't get it here. I would just kill for A war pigs. Who makes that three floyds. Oh okay so we're it's between us kind of i. Three floyds is about an hour and a half away from me really yeah. It's not that far. I know i wait around months. Send it over to marc. Yeah i can't get it in this state. I had it in lacrosse. Wisconsin and founded. We were driving. We're at a family. We're on our way home from a family reunion for my wife said family and Had it for lunch and went to a i was like where is the liquor store went and bought a couple of six fax. It took it home and Treasured it and It's been gone for months so bad. That's a that's kind of what started my My interest in hazy ip as was the new england ipa's is the Three floyds three points makes good stuff. they're out of indiana so there's like there's northern distribution to them and that's where like i have friends in fort wayne indiana and as far as south bend. Three point is somewhere around there. The one time that we tried to stop it was like a sunday. And they'd really funky hours and kinda. Can i pay the go through there. But yeah it's a Popular around here is gumbel head and and a couple of years we get distribution of okay in here out here in town. I've never tasted any of their other beers. Oh they go yeah. That's the one it's good. Anything three points is is well regarded. I think i don't think there's a there's a bad brew among them but but yeah if you're into. Ipa's keep trying all different varieties of the case on the. I kinda like brandon. Fields is the guy's name done ring a bell. Yeah he's only. He's younger than the thirty six. He played a actually went to school. Here in town kinda crazy. He was in the nfl draft in two thousand seven. Yep okay so maybe the dolphins for seven years you okay must not have been that bad but yeah. It wasn't terrible variants. Once dan marino retired i kind of lost. My love for the dolphins know just reverted back to my love of the cowboys would not earn a house. Going could be worse you know but not much normally say you could be around san. But they're not actually that bad the a well so well with that Mark quo working folks find you on the interwebs so played eleven dot com The only real social media. I do is instagram and my hands. Air is mark builds. It yes and i do have a youtube channel. It's played eleven woodworking. But honestly you're better off subscribing to the blog. Because everything i put on youtube gets put on the blog but not everything on the blog gets on youtube. So they're gonna blogs definitely worth the subscribe because it's all sorts of good hinson tips in there. Yeah i've been You know. I didn't do much with it but i'm really trying You know i'm committed to trying to get some content up there. So i've got tomorrow. I'm posting plans for a layout how i would lay out the top. A sixty inch split top had a had. A guy asked about that. And so doing that. And then the next day. They'll be if you didn't wanna tell vice. This is what i would change in then i'm thinking about doing a series called the armchair anarchist which basically Reading chris's anarchist's workbench. But about halfway through it. It's great. I saw you know. Happiest day of my life. Got mentioned in a christopher his book alongside lene nielsen and bench crafted. Yes yes. I did read that part. I should have brought that up. Yeah just finished that a couple of nights ago and they said yes and if you want to buy one here who you need to go see yes. They make pretty good benches or something like that. Yeah so that was cool. But i i wanna go through His design logic design logic and kind of compare them It's you know it's christopher wars. I don't question anything He does. But i learned most of what i know about works. Bench design from his writing. So you know. We have a little bit different approach to things like the the dog in front of the bench You know and that's kind of what. I'll be talking about in the upcoming blog. Post is even if you aren't gonna tail vice. I think i would recommend having some holes along the front edge Just you can wedge part in there and work on it They wouldn't need to be as close together as they would. For a tail vise but You'll see what. I posted drawings. So cool will looking forward to that. So sean where can folks find you. A most everywhere. I am shawn w. seventy eight planned simple finding air. How about you kyle. You can always find me. Barton dot colin instagram. The only social media platform that matters and with that that just about wraps it up for this show..

"Usually make him about three inches longer than the thickness of the bench. Because you can stick them up really high in wedge things against them and Yeah the tandy. Yeah that is. That is cool okay. I mean i've come into that. You know i. I have like a put on put on the bench kind of bench stop. Is she the happens. Plywood with words on two sides of it eventually started bench and it does the same purpose it. But it's like if i can't bulldogs in what i work on but if it's just you know by finding ways of doing that sometimes i go into that thing. I clamped the that thing around. What doesn't side side aside. And i'm going at it on an angle because whatever i have is bigger than it needs to be or whatever it is just the two points of contact me something so much more stable in general than that's all you need in a lot of applications definitely devlin so tell us a little bit about what you have going on now. I think you've got a new class but it's going to be online class. You're calling it work bitch at home or at work Class at home It's basically while Our student is at home I can't teach My wife doesn't have a vacation days to to allow me to do that. so i'm i Trying to come up with sort of a hybrid class that that allows you to work at your own pace a little bit but also have something of the experience of a class So there's there's prerecord videos that come out in a sort of on a time schedule Each week and then there is a weekly meeting. Live video conference meeting with the entire class. as well as like office hours i guess you know you could visit One on one and ask questions if you need it and it all hinges around workbench kit That's got all the really nasty bits done So the idea is that an absolute beginner Could could take this class and ended up with you know essentially the same bench that i would build Here in the shop and you know the majority of joyner is cut. But you have to do some fitting. There's some tendons that have to be cut by hand. Ideally that's what the instruction will show but the you know the the end cap is fitted all of the vice while ninety five percent of the vice work is done Which is the thing. That really stresses people out it used to stress me out a lot But this is a matter of really like drilling some pilot holes and Screwing things together so that You can the other. The kit will show up a few weeks early You build a pair of saw horses. So i i talked to roy underhill. I was. I was trying to figure out how to bootstrap this thing together. So assuming somebody didn't really have anything other than a cheap pair of saw horses how could they. How could they do this. Work and I blog post came up with a printed an expert excerpt on lost art. Press from roy. Underhill's book the radio Calvin cobb radio would worker and there is this print out called the shave horse. That say the work softwares. That saved thanksgiving and it hit me like oh we could. We could modify this design to have one straight leg so that you could bolt your leg by leg. To it or clamp your leg vice leg to it while you're working and so i talked roy and got permission to modify his design. And so that'll be part of the class to is a set of drawings for building a pair of shave our saw horses so when you unpack your bench from the crate you flip the front half of the top upside down. Install the tail vise flip. It back over and clamp it to the saw horses and you have half workbench and it's got a tail vise in it. Hope dan you can work on your leg. Join ary work on your rail joining work on your bases. You know all that all the stuff that all the work holding problems are solved by right off the bat. That's that's the first thing you do. The first week is to install a tale of ice and then You know once you get the base together you put the top on it and you're done it's it should take. I think we can do it in six weeks. but i'm you know with this. I this first run through as a pilot. So i'm only doing Somewhere between four and six students. Roy and I wanna make sure we kind of get the kinks out. I'm looking for people who are willing to give good feedback And contribute to making the course better for the next people and the registration for that will open. Let's see this is coming out on the fourteen. Yes so the registration will open the following. Saturday the twenty first. How fantastic so that'll be on my side. I've got a I'll have the registration page up by the end of this week and then And then people will be able to take a look at it. Get a better description. But i've gotten some good feedback from pete Contacted me about taking classes. You know they're disappointed. Of course i am too but you know we gotta do. We can do so. I'm hoping that it can branch out to other things Oh yeah. I wanted to teach some other classes and i maybe convinced some other instructors to Maybe be a guest instructor. So we'll see we'll see. I got to get the kinks worked out on my staff first and then have a formula. Yeah exactly so So this kid that you buy Includes a the hardware as well as the the would for lack of role number. Yeah does and it's everything you need to build the bench other than The tools are you. Are there efforts to confirm that. The buyer has the essential tools to mirrors. There is a tool list on site. So if you click on the classes tab on the menu there'll be a workbench class at home option and when you click on that it's got. I did some videos A while back.

"And i guess some feedback from him You know when i was doing that he has one of my older Mark one. I guess you would say but He says he uses it to actually When renaming so he actually uses it. It's kind of a dummy leg. And with that mark there when he's reached the proper depth the fifteen sixteen of an inch. Which is i don't know. Typical as i'm saying in air quotes the large diameter of a taper tenant of leg. Most plans have met fifteen sixteen inch so He actually uses. The jig is kind of a dummy leg. And because it's got it's a cylinder on the top part of it. You can lay a bubble Gauge right up against that so he can check. Check as the Does it's raining so what decided to do to my New structure jig mark two version of it is i just went ahead and not only am i. Having a reference line at the one inch mark where the tendons but now adding one at fifteen sixteen inch so so all your take. Your comforts found like new charges. A dollar more everything m. Maybe i never thought about using the jig as a gummy leg when remain. But i went once. He said that too man went yellow makes perfectly straight sides of easy to reports against so So yeah so. I did that. So if anyone bought my Mark to jig when like that creature comforts before i started adding Just reach out to me I know a a easy way to do that. So just reach up and be happy to help you with that in besides that of now starting on well tomorrow will be starting on building the adirondack chair for friend of mine so That's going to a friend of the family so I'll be starting on that They brought me one. That went copied. So disassembly that in milling up the lumber and a friend that building it for wants to once you know what's to have a little hand in the in the Sauce so to speak when build it so probably weekend or two. He'll come down here and we'll but it together or they'll watch me put it together. Ziada here dr. The screw all right. Here's some seventy in the game. Yeah exactly you're some sandpaper. No get away from the router but Anyway so that's what i've been working on so more what about you. What have you been working on Well today i am working on Finishing up workbench that's That's way overdue. And before that i had a shave. Worst that I've been wanting for a long time to make a series of videos on how to build shave horse. Yeah out a couple so for thing. Yeah i got the footage all shot. That's kind of what took so long as a learning to film and And the editing process will start soon but but i finally got that done got shipped out. That shave horse actually went to hong kong while exciting. I think it got their faster than i could. Send a letter across our country amazed at how fast it got there. And how slow the usps. Well yeah. you know it's crazy times but couldn't worse if it's going to australia i'm i'm gosh. Yeah two months to get things to australia and will actually want. It takes about a month to get an australian than once. It's in australia there. So shut down in. Parts of their country took another month or get delayed do Experience is usually a month before So yeah getting from. America to australia is a slow process through the to the postal services. It out and then as you know any other services way cost prohibited. Yeah yeah well we we shipped the shave and the bull horse Through ups and International champagne shipping always kind of the gives me cramps in my shoulders but It's getting less painful each time that i do it if the customers willing to pay for it. Yeah yeah yeah. Yeah this is a great customer. So yeah. It was happy doing he. He's the guy who finally got me off my butt in got me to build a bowl horse So so that that was good. And those drawings are They were sent off to jeff left wit so he's going to be drying up some new drawings for me to offer as an option All have a a pdf that people can download for free on my sight when that's done And i'm talking to david fisher. I think i'm going to redraw his plans For just a solo bowl horse. They're based on using just construction timber. And because as i was working through those at you know my my design was based on his and Just kind of made to work with my horse. And i found some things that you know some some gaps in the measurements and things you had to kind of figure out and I hate doing that with drawings. I just want to. You know if. I'm gonna follow a set of drawings. I want him to be easy to follow. So he's been really generous. But those out and to to let me use use his work as a reference. So i offer to to redraw more like an engineering drawing and We'll see if he if he wants to post that on his cider. All posted online for free one way or the other so and then the bull horses really cool so so. You're going to have a separate one. If i understand you correctly just based on a day fisher's design. It's a complete bull horse. Then then you'll have other plans if you just want to build one that would bid on your bench or that Tim manny peak albert. Type shave horse. Well it had to be. I would call it the tim. Manny style as the twin rail base. I'm his the the original design You you can't really take it apart. it's not made to have the parts come off and So this the great thing about tim's base is Is you can pop the shape. Worst parts off and anything you want on that on that base And i guess Brian bogged probably get a little bit of credit for that to his shape. Horse has something similar to that But but yeah so yeah. I'll have a a drawing. That's you know if you all you wanna do shave bowls or you wanna dedicated horse You can build that And and then there'll be another one. That's if you want to add it on. And i'm sure if you made some minor adjustments you could put it on a tim. Manny shave horses. Well the old style that he used to build So i think he's still sells plans actually. So yeah yeah i have. I have a gilbert a horse. You have tim an shave horse. So yeah interesting. Yeah i'm kind of interested in in getting into bowls But i gotta get into. I gotta get back to cheer making. Yeah sure and. I know how that goes if you wanna do working for fun. Don't start making tools. You i know i know exactly exactly so we'll And then i saw that You had a little mishap with the plane. Yeah yeah booby-trapped myself i Left plane down at the end of the bench on the other end of a slab and couldn't see it and that was slide in this lab off the end of the bench to pick it up and Heard a nasty thump on the ground and Yeah that was my low angle jack but it was just the tote i mean it it it all the toda's hoping that.

"Like seven inches by nine inches by three and a half inches. Like a small. A three d. printer but It's thirty six hundred bucks now. It's not something i'm gonna rush. Shot him by anything else in the prices of these things. Continue to the fall I have some stuff. I would like to be able to see and see my you know what i'm sure. Mark has some stuff too. Yeah i'd love to be able to make some hardware now and again. Yeah exactly so. I mean forgive me who are do you know who abandoned tools I've heard of them. I think they're at during the The the million rica. i'm not. Yeah now now well-versed yeah now if it's a great brand or not i would not know but Most of the stuff that you know. I got this outta woodshop news. Most stuff they promote his is fairly. Good yeah i. They went to their website. Cnc milling and pc be kneeling is their business. Yeah looks like this works. So common autocad software including fusion three sixty and that that is just the way you know. I'm a. I'm a cab jockey but not afridi prototyping cad. Jackie vac sort like that's That's a different ball game. But it's the rapid prototyping the rapid production. The unique ways them now seem like like jimmy. Terresa y'all doing these bid whiskey display cases that look like old trailers even and he figured out that you know i can make a wheel. I could cut it out. Apply and he's got a huge. Cnc mill right on. But oh i can do this. And i can make it like a puzzle piece. I can cut it in a five pieces and the guy. I can make basically come out of a thinner section apply what i can make three wheels on the same supply with it. I could cut to circle and you go. Oh yeah there's there's a way you know and it's like this kind of engine ui in your own design. You start finding veteran and quicker or more efficient ways of doing things with with the kind of thing. I love seeing more and more come to it This is small for the price. Especially i think it's pretty darned small considering what's what's the one the real almost. Diy one where you like. It leans up on the wall. Tim swayed just got one and his working with it. Or you talking. Oh now something like that. Kinda has like wires or something driven two points and it but now they've got an intelligence the access on it. Oh really yeah so. It's getting just now. I think that thousand dollar point range And it literally almost cuts a four by eight sheet of plywood. Unique wall space to put this thing on because it's semi vertical but anyway it. I love that that came out years ago that won originally and it was like. Yeah this diy kind of thing and we put it together with found parts and and you can do this. It's just not quite the same as a manual stepper motor driven thing. And you know you're seeing everything from that to to. Then you know like this this thing that you know for a few thousand extra dollars. It's a much smaller thing but it's probably incredibly accurate and then can do harder metals and different materials wherever. Nee need hannah crazy yeah. It's kinda cool no anyway so Again that's a bantam. Ba in t. a. M just searched for them and take a look at it if the interest you or you wanna see something looks kinda cool for sure. I mean thought. It's funny. Because i mean that the with you've got in the show notes is an article from from which up news but then you go to their website which is linked in there Which is a ban tool dot com. And that seems the front center of their new banham tools like boom and they're showing it cutting aluminum. They're showing it. You know you know the motors spindles. Yeah kinda kinda cool stuff. Yeah maybe cool to have have something like that but young thirty six hundred bucks lunde but you know sure hey five years that could be downed. Bugs probably will be that way considering. I mean my public library has burners to you. You know like that's that that five years ago was like whoa. Whoa the bleeding edge. Only a few had it and it was absorbed expensive. It's still like that here. I mean it is to a degree but you like you can get a three d. printer for under five hundred dollars. You know my son. My my son got my old car. And he didn't like it the stick and he he wanted to change the handle of the stick and he found another one but it didn't adapt right and so he went into tinker cad. He europa thing. He printed a school incident. Asleep after for the rod that he that in the car and fit the handle that he got you know and then he wanted to put his lacrosse analog cuddle across handle down and he made a thing that adapted to lacrosse handle three printed at school in the library. Like that's cool that nothing we could have done when we were kids right like that's that that's true rapid prototyping. I've got an idea. I think i can do it. Let me take a few measurements. Draw out in bank. I've got one crazy at pretty cool. That's pretty well. let's move onto what's in the shop. So sean those bs pan off say it's not in my shot but it's in my house and it's not it's been it's been a matter of time. We we we split. There's a thing called a escape that i got that you put between boxes on a beehive and it's basically one valve and they walk away from it and so then we took away the top box honey which we left them twice as much honey so they have got plenty of this survive the winter but this is just like our first year. Let's get some and then we brought it inside and we go. how do we get the saudi. It's not a really. You know the the ideal way of getting honey out is it blows really well when it's above eighty degrees well. House isn't going to be above eighty degrees anytime soon. So that's not happening. But we try and we tried like double boiling like we laid frames above a tray on a stern no during the chair making you could have put it in your kill. Yeah i know. And i thought about them like i. I was like okay. What kind of like thin installation cardboard box. The light bulb like you good. What can i do here right so for a little more than that. We broke down and bought a spinner. Which is the honey extractor. And you put the frames vertically in this thing and then hand crank and just heavy gearbox in turns and spits honey out against the walls and pours down the bottom so at this point you thinking of like one of those paintbrush cleaner things. Yes yes times a magnitude. Oh i would imagine i mean. The frames are what working in his long inches high. And any but yes similar where you're and it's a ninety degree gearbox but yes the same idea of like those..

"Welcome to the modern woodworkers association. A podcast about woodworking from folk. Who would work. Woodworking is what we do who we are and what we like to talk about so join us as we have a drink. Sit around and talk woodworking. Hi welcome to the three hundred and twenty first episode of the modern woodworkers association podcast on call barton. And i'm here with macos. Sean was newsworthy today. We're visiting with phenomenal workbench. Builder accomplished woodworker in instructor. Mark hicks of plate. Eleven woodworking so. Welcome to the show mark. thanks so I'm very excited to talk to you about some things you're going to be offering but before we get into that let's see what's going around on woodworking news so i just have a couple of things that found one is that Power matic has new drill. Press out. I guess this is their new top of the line. Drill press It's called the pm. Eight two oh. evs so exactly but it looks like a behemoth. has a one horsepower. One twenty volts fanta. Mataya us yeah. Yeah but it's kind of a whole lot of variable-speed options some Cervo motor controls to keep the tour in place and it has a bunch of accessories you can get for the table including Some dust extraction accessories. So yeah it's kinda it's pretty nice and it's also has a A bigger table a would table that uses the Were those clamps that fit into the dove till. I just bought some other mark roe jig. One saying yeah. Yeah you know what speeco of yeah but it would be nice if i could actually a think of the name of its micro jig dovetail clamps. That's what it is. You had all the right word. You just didn't put him in an exactly exactly order it so anyway so So that's out there so if you're in the drill press you might want to check that out. It runs about two thousand dollars. So it's a little little up there for drill press and i'm not sure i would choose it over that Novo nobody drove down. I was gonna ask because at the one. And i don't know how long your life thing but davis yudo whole video on this the auto reversing. You've got a depth stop with an at that particular micron level depth it then reverses the drill bit automatically and shut and shuts it down and stop lake. So there's no chance of over. And i mean that's kind kinda crazy seem. C control of a drill press which traditionally is i if the thing spins and i put it out like but i don't know price pricewise that actually beat with it or not. I think the nova nova one is about. I want to say they got to dig at a benchtop one in a one one say they're probably about sixteen eighteen hundred bucks for those pay and you'd really have to get down into the brass taxes and what you're going to be using it for but yeah but you know they're all in market so if you're looking for drill press and you will settle for nothing less than the first rate Then that's definitely what to go. Take a look at the long. I will i like. I like the idea of the kind of the drive train. They have compared to what my dad. My dad got a jet floor-standing numerous but it's the whole thing three pulleys you know and then the tension are on the side. And you've got to like get this whole thing to get the belts just right to do different speeds in their stadium. Speedway doesn't stop. This kind of digital drive stuff is is great but same kind of thing like i think like this. You're going to get one and you're going to keep it for a long long time. Yeah so it's if you're refitting your shop or if you're starting out and you've got a clear plan of what you want. This might be the right now. One thing i noticed In this new tool but it kind of shocked me on the pricing was a reichen has a benchtop drill press. It's one of those radio ones where you can actually swing ahead of the of the drill back and forth that various angles. I think to like forty five degrees or something like that and it was like four hundred bucks is like wow. That's good. i think. I think they're floor-standing. One was like a couple hundred bucks more than that. So if you like that capability it's definitely something to take a look at. I didn't realize it was at that particular price point so interesting avenue. I mean that being said. I mean you've got your in a grisly benchtop. Drill press goes four hundred or so. So it's maybe it's just in the benchtop realm. It runs friendlier from you. Know high one hundred to the high three hundred younger gonna take I just thought with the fever doing the radial stuff. It would be a little bit more than that so yeah but next up in. This really has nothing to do with woodworking. I just thought it was kind of interesting and cut wood with it. Yes you can morillo there. You go a bantam. Tools has introduced a desktop cnc milling machine that will You know it's basically a cnc machine and it will fabricate anything out of wood. Aluminum brass still plastics and more says But it kind of reminds me of mills before in this one's relatively small kind of like a three d. printer size. Yeah tore mock makes something of a smaller size. Don't they and i intend to. Makers that the i don't know the dimensions that one but it seems like they've aversion next this orion twenty by twenty by twenty ever take the working capacities like seven inches by nine inches by three and a half inches. Like a small. A three d. printer but It's thirty six hundred bucks now..

A bunch of conversations that could be nature. Here's what I think what's going to happen I. Let me preface it by saying this. I tweeted about this when Shit I hit the fan earlier last week. Jada Pinkett has lived her life her own way. self-made ben on on her own. She's not will Smith's wife. She was Jada Pinkett when they got together okay. Her I will say what you want. They should have been working for them for years, and they've raised some children that feel loved and supported by their parents, and that's really all you can ask, so I'm supporting their their number two. She's facing this situation head on. She said it's some healing need to take place I'm bring myself to the table. She here everything else saying. She heard that interview year. Her rips issued statements which she like all right? Fuck it I'm feeling okay. Let me sit down now. Do I think she's about to give? Give us an expose about the the innermost details, and and the agreements that and will smith have made if they do exist in their marriage or life partnership. Go into detail with that. No, but I think she tell us the truth about what has happened between her and August Alsina I. Think She's going to qualify their relationship in a way. That helps us to understand it and I think that she's going to address things that he has said. I don't think that the conversation will go beyond August al-Sina. Will turn into what everyone wanted to turn into. which is what the fuck do you got going on? This boy was here in the first place and I. Don't think that she's going to answer that because I don't really think she has too. But I think what she is going to. Address is the details of specific details about the relationship between her and August seen A, and it'll be left up to us to fill in the blanks. Yup, that's what I think. We'll get and I think she'll be honest about it and I can't wait only thing as I stand. All the thing I did like is is the conversations that it prompted in regards to like relationship configurations Kinda similar to the episode. We have a sham booty shot out. The Shampoo Sorta Sam Budi. We talked. You know the defense agreements in different ways that people connect and different rules and people creating what works best for them, and not you know the outside perception of a relationship because I saw a lot of people on twitter. That seems very triggered by this conversation like it was like Whoa. This shit it. Remind me of insecure. How happy week it would trigger the Shibata people and then people would project whatever it is. They were thinking of feeling. You just kind of the same thing, but you know the only part I can see is the age difference, and then the fact that he was someone that was going through a lot in the aspect of being taken advantage of. was triggering for me. 'cause I was in a device similar dynamic with someone who's older supposed to be my mentor when I was like younger going through things so I understand the taking advantage part but we don't know anything. This is all of us consuming projecting. You know making shit up just because that's what we do best. HIS HAIR! I just pray there with whatever comes August. We get some some healing for this young man. He has been through so much and has continued to work and put his music and still tell you the stories in just seemed like present and so I just applaud him for that because I think it's so crazy like I was watching the interview with Angela Yee and it's just crazy to watch him how much I love how he speaks. There was no rhyme or reason since to anything that he was saying, and it was so embarrassing. Somebody who is from Flint Michigan. We from the same hometown, and he makes it look so bad. It ain't nothing like that. The black people there ain't nothing like that. We don't have anything to do with those type of politics that anti-black blackness, Shit, celebrating whiteness, and making it the most desirable thing to be adjacent to whiteness in close proximity. I'm Jenny Kaplan and this is encyclopedia were Manica welcome to a brand new month and therefore a brand new theme all may we're talking about Mavericks, and Legends Women Who are known or should be known for seriously challenging gender norms and turning societal or class expectations on their heads. The women in this group often overcame major disadvantages. Some of these women wielded great power for better or for worse others accomplished incredible feats despite limits on their agency or ability. This theme is a bit more complex than some of our previous months, but hopefully it'll prove very much worth the journey. Today's legend was an American Socialite Chef and Thriving Prohibition Madam and Entrepreneur. She was one of the earliest documented African American. transgender people in the United. States please welcome Lucy, Hicks Anderson. Tobias Lawson was born in Wadi Kentucky in eighteen, eighty six. Though assigned male at birth from her earliest years, she adamantly self identified as female by the time she started school. She insisted on wearing dresses and going by the name Lucy. Concerned with what was going on with her child. In an era before the term transgender was in our lexicon, Lucy's mother took her to see a physician. Interestingly in light of the Times, the doctor told Lucy's parent that the best course of action was simply to let her live a woman, so they did. From that point forward, they fully embraced rising lucy as a girl and they were highly supportive of her. When she was fifteen, she left school to join the workforce as a domestic. Five Years Later Lucy moved from Kentucky down to Pecos Texas where she worked at a local hotel for ten years, then in nineteen twenty, she moved to silver, city New Mexico where she met and married a man named Clarence. Hicks Lucy was thirty four at the time. After, their wedding, Lucian Clarence left New Mexico to move to Oxnard California where Lucy once again found work as a domestic. There Lucy began making a name for herself by winning a number of baking competitions. She was also celebrated around town as talented chef. In one, thousand, nine, hundred, thousand, nine Lucienne Clarence divorced now on her own. Lucy used her life savings to purchase property close to the center of town. It wasn't just any property. It was a boarding house front for a brothel that also sold liquor then illegal under prohibition. Lucy was a very successful madam. Her Brothel and drinking establishment was a well known and well used community establishment. During her free time Lucy was a celebrated hostess and socialite in town, well known for throwing lavish dinner parties, and being heavily involved in many of the town's charitable and civic organizations. She used these friendships and connections with important members of Oxford Society to get her out of trouble with the law. Scholars see Riley's Norton. When the sheriff arrested her one night, her double-barreled reputation paid off Charles Donlan towns. Leading banker promptly bailed her out. He had scheduled a large dinner party which would have collapsed dismal with Lucy in jail. In Nineteen, Forty Four, Lucy married a man named Reuben Anderson. An American soldier who was stationed at Mitchel field in Long Island New York. A year later in nineteen, forty, five, a sailor visiting ochsner claimed that he'd caught a venereal disease from one of the women working in Lucy's brothel. As a result, all of the women working at the brothel were required to undergo medical examinations by the local doctor. This order included Lucy herself. When the local district attorney learned from the examination that Lucy was assigned male at birth, he decided to charge her with perjury for lying about her sex on her recent marriage certificate and for impersonating a woman. During her trial Lucy stated. I defy any doctor in the world to prove that I am not a woman I have lived dressed acted just what I am a woman. Still? She was convicted of perjury relating to her marriage license and received a sentence of ten years' probation. Because only marriages between men and women were legally recognized the time. Lucy's marriage was also deemed invalid as a result of the conviction. Legally considered a man. In, a final Gut Punch in one, thousand, nine, hundred, forty, six, the federal government decided to charge both Lucy and Reuben with fraud for receiving money to wives of soldiers under the GI bill. Lucy was also charged with failing to register for the military draft. Eventually dropped. Both Lucy and Rubin were found guilty of the fraud charge and sentenced to prison. I order of the Court Lucy was also forbidden from wearing women's clothing while incarcerated. After serving their time, Lucienne Ruben tried to move back to Oxnard, but were barred by order of the police chief who threatened further prosecution. If Lucy returned instead, the couple moved to Los Angeles where they resided together until Lucy's death in nineteen, fifty four, she was sixty eight years old.
