I'm Jeremy Hobson, along with Robin Young. It's here and now some breaking news this afternoon, new recordings reveal President Trump knew how deadly the Corona virus was, even as he publicly downplayed. Its severity. The tapes are from interviews done by Washington Post journalist Bob Woodward for his upcoming book, NPR. White House reporter Aisha Roscoe is here with Maura and Aisha Woodward asked Trump on March 19th what explained his pivot. Toward acknowledging the gravity of the Corona virus pandemic. Here's Woodward's tape from the Washington Post. Well, I think really, To be honest with your I want you I wanted to I wanted to always play it down. I still like playing it down. Yes, because I don't want to create a panic. He doesn't want to create a panic, so he was wanting to play it down in a February 7th phone called, Trump says the Corona virus is more deadly than the seasonal flu. But it would be weeks before he publicly acknowledge that fact. Aisha. How significant is this? I think it's very significant. It's very hard to tell with voters. How much is already baked in how much they have already. How many people it seems like many people have already made up their minds. But In an election that could really be defined by the Corona virus to have the president on tape, saying things that were really very at odds with what he was saying at the time to the public is a big deal, and I will be a factor in this election going forward, and I would be shocked if we don't see this on the campaign trail coming from the Biden campaign if we don't see ads and more about this Cause this is the argument that the Biden campaign has been making is that the president Bongo old, his response to the Corona virus pandemic on that he's not taking it seriously. And here we have the president saying on tape saying that he was playing it down, playing down the dangers of it. Well, actually, the Biden campaign has already Come out with something on this. Joe Biden just talked about these revelations in Michigan. If we can play that tape, let's listen. He knew how deadly it was. It was much more deadly than the flu he knew and purposely played it down. Worse, he lied to the American people. He knowingly and willingly lied about the threat it poses to the country for months. He had the information. He knew how dangerous it wass. All this deadly disease ripped through our nation. He failed to do his job on purpose. That was Biden. Just speaking today. I said, do you think you know the president has been trying to make this election all about the idea of law and order? Do you think that something like this is enough to really change the conversation going forward? It will certainly dominate headlines going forward, at least for you know the next couple of days, maybe weeks on. I think it's going to keep coming up on not only just because the corona the thing about that law and order trying to make that stick is that people were still dealing with the Corona virus. You know, we're not past that. S so you have parents who are dealing with kids at home. We're going into a fall with the flu season where we'll be dealing with a flu season and the Corona virus. So these were always questions that President Trump would have to answer to. But now you have a book, and you have him on tape talking about it and talking about his response and and seeming to say, especially that part about saying That it is more deadly than the flu because he did not make that clear. And he continually trump continually compared the corona virus to the flu on basically saying the flu kills all of these people. We don't shut everything down for that. Why are we doing it with the Corona virus? I mean, that is Ah, Siri, but we know now that he was privately telling Bob Woodward that it was much more deadly than the flu. There's a lot more that's already coming out from this book, which hasn't even been released. Yet. Woodward's conversations went beyond the pandemic here. Ia's talking with Trump about the idea of white privilege and the fact that the two of them Had similar upbringings privilege. Has isolated and put you in a cave. To a certain extent, is it put me and I think lots of white privileged people in a cave and that we have to Worked our way out of it. Understand the anger in the pain, particularly black people feel in this country. You know you You really drank the Kool Aid, Didn't you? Listen to you Well know. What else do we know so far about Woodward's reporting on Trump's thinking on racism? Well, I Woodward press Trump about whether he believes that there is systemic racism in Trump was evasive about that. And he kind of admitted that he does think that there's racism in the USA is racism everywhere. But I don't know that that is that surprising He. Woodward also said that Trump continually when, when he tried to point out to trump that they're you know the disparities that African Americans face President Trump continually pointed out the you know record low black unemployment that was in the U. S before the Corona virus. Which is what President Trump has done over and over again when he tries to make this case about his record for black people. The issue, of course, is that when you talk about you know African American low black unemployment that we did have, we don't have any more was that it was still much higher than white unemployment. Even at its best, it was still way higher, the wide unemployment and so these have always been kind of these blind spots for President Trump. By the way, the White House today the press secretary, Kayleigh Mcenany did comment on this and said the president has never lied to the American public on covert 19. But of course, there are tapes in this case, which we will continue to follow The reaction to NPR. White House reporter Aisha Roscoe. Thank you. Thank you..

Tony island who prayed Baru vs. I know he played for the capitals, and I didn't know that about Butch Cassidy or Bruce, Cassidy Cassidy listen. They did this one thousand nine hundred seventy two teams that makes this Stanley Cup final nostalgic. That's Bobby ORR chipping and going here flying is the greatest photo h show history. Oh, yeah. So I'm gonna say nostalgic by the way. Can you name the other teams that came in, of course with the St Louis blues, do it, the Pittsburgh Penguins, the Philadelphia. Flyers Minnesota North stars. Did the LA kings did in the Oakland golden seals? What do you think with the right Cam? Research outta next last one. It's black, that Cody Bellinger is hitting four own four. It's early. It's twenty traditionally you begin to pay attention on July first if a guy is hitting four hundred you begin to think about do. I think he's going to hit four hundred. Of course, not is highest batting average in the majors to sixty seven. But at the moment, Mike, he leaves the entire major leagues in runs hits RBI batting average on base percentage and slugging percentage. So here's a guy you have to attention to plus I found out today. He's the fastest guy in baseball from home, too. I had no idea handed any beats down the line..

"See we want to give them a buy into the plane automatically number one attraction at the NBA has the Golden State Warriors. Yeah. It's the Golden State Warriors. You gotta get a teen whose season ticket holders, perhaps can't run out of work to get to a six o'clock game. The people who pay the most money in the NBA, Adam silver's league, that's are sitting in chairs in San Francisco, starting in November and loss. Adage over is looking at people who are season ticket holders, and saying, thank you, but we are an expansive universe, and we need television. Smart awesome. Rhys it win for me. I don't want to put it on the baller happy yet because I don't think it's going to happen. It's going to happen. That'd be a win for you zero in a game started at seven a game in zero according to Jeff Goodman of something called stadium Juwan Howard is apparently set to become the coach at the university of Michigan, where he was one of the stars of not only the most famous team in that school's history. But one of the most famous in college basketball history while Chris Webber and Jalen rose have made a big Intelevision Howard was straight, and the coaching after his nineteen year playing career. He played that long. Yes, I did. He's been an assistant under boss, Pat Riley. He started. Oh, washing in Miami. For the last six years, assistant, and highly regarded in pro basketball, circles, Tony does hiring Joon set up well for Michigan to remain relevant so on how it is never blown away. Sel as a head coach, now you can say to me, Steve Kerr, and ever blue whistles a head coach. Steve Kerr went from prose to prose he had been a GM as well. He did on television. He watched the pros. Rose, pat. Riley, John from TV table to the pro watching the pros John Howard is being asked to go to college. He's from his alma mater, Michigan. I don't think he would have got an interview if he wasn't from Michigan. Let's look around for second Clyde Drexler to Houston returned. Home didn't work, Chris Mullin. Saint John's returned. Home didn't work. Patrick ewing. Jury still looks pretty good so far. But I you know, to me, this is an elite program now Michigan twice daily on stay on his kit. You he's on the front burner. Can't judge it can't. Because he's from Memphis, high school coached in may was in Memphis and so. I I'm leery alaikum. I'm a little of this higher Juwan Howard, like Patrick Ewing. They're the guys who cut their teeth and did it for a while. And people in the circle thought, hey this guy needs a chance. This guy has earned the chain owned the chance on Howard. You're asking me is good. Right. The name those guys names are magic in wolverine land, JR. I like going from pro to college much more than surprised from college, too. So you have a harder time in the pros John to one Howard grew up about ten blocks south of me grew up in Chicago. Not in Michigan, and I apologize one. Howard says he was a kid and I've rooted for him and respected him and admired him. He was beloved in Washington D. He was yes until he signed with Miami. Well until bit. Let's take a break, but coming up is Drake getting too involved in playoffs and what should we expect from the daily Cup? Great Canada candidates that trait Drake straight. That's. It's so good to have you here for what twenty two hours eight..

"But Tony in the Toronto bench, which is now shown up in really, really headed safe for two games at home. Those guys have to go on the road home. Well, let me say something that just sort of revealed itself, at least to me, others understood this onto the Cuco. A terrific player. He's probably going to be the VP this year. But you know what? He's limited his way of impacting the game has limits. He has no shot to speak of, and when you get a great defender like Hawaii, lynyrd leading a double team, Kawais very specific points out. They double him hard on all the important possessions. And you know what happens? He wants to spin move and people go. No, we've seen that now for three or four gains. This is not December. Would you get another guy the next night and another guy tomorrow night? No, no, no. You can't do that. You can't shoot. You got some problems. And so this series to me has turned so a my to interpret that as you nothing Toronto will win the syrupy say very much cannot think it's even and I think it's going seven. So to me, the most unbelievable statistic in all of the NBA is that Steph curry when he's on the court and Kevin Durant is not there thirty one and one but the second most unbelievable. Statistic. The me is about Leonard that apparently, they're ten in one Toronto, when he plays, but scores fewer than twenty points, less ninety at nineteen. He is by far their best player theory gonna Gonna series. say, I have to say I don't understand why I still this series has become to me. What Golden State Houston was two four. And so I still think Milwaukee wins five our explain this last night. They played twenty two games without Kawhi Leonard during the regular. See, Tony like you pointed out in that game seven where he was going to be there. Everything they would draw. Yeah. But on a night like last night. With co why is is legs was so bad. He doesn't even know which one to limp on. They looked at him. And they said to themselves into us in the media act of the game, we can't wait. We cannot do this to him we gotta play and they, they hadn't done that before this is, you know, it was surprising to me was still. He was still pretty good evening. Was best player in this series. He is not onto the coupon. Not yet, for the first time we have somebody pumping the brakes on the Kevin Durant, and the Knicks speculation and it's coming from katie's agent who many site is the primary reason for the speculation. Rich climate, who drips New York told the Wall Street Journal, the K D is one hundred percent undecided about where to go quote. He really doesn't know and I really don't know close quote the warriors owners feel. They have a real shot at keeping K D in the bay area. And the clippers will tell you privately they love their chances twenty. What do you believe? So you're asking me essentially to go inside Kevin Durant head and I can't, but I'll tell you what it looks like from the outside. It looks like he's a very unhappy person most of the time he takes some joy in playing basketball, but doesn't seem to take any joy in any of the things that attend to being a great star in basketball doesn't seem to want to do that. So I find it totally believable than. That he doesn't know where he's going to be next year totally believable because I think he wonders what will make me happy. And I don't think he knows that. I don't know that he wonders that, but before this Easter conference series, spinach, you know, as you alluded to some time in the west, and that time was around the warriors..
