Hepatitis A becomes health emergency in Florida

"One thing that has definitely been making news is this site is a outbreak and you know it well it made a little bit of news last year and then and you don't hear much about it because that was all about the measles and mumps outbreak you know that really was expected to be able to talk about the mumps outbreak yet here we are Florida has declared a public health emergency over its ballooning hepatitis eight cases now I bring this up even though we're gonna be talking more about marijuana a little bit later in the show but appetite is eight could be spread hi poorer hygienic practices poor hygiene practices in fast food and restaurants also in homeless populations etcetera and so here we have Philadelphia has declared a public health emergency Philadelphia fairly is out of a hundred fifty four cases I wait to see the numbers coming in from from Florida but the numbers are staggering and I have a does a originally started in two thousand sixteen there was the I think the most recent outbreak started then they said it was over but cases can't kept on surfacing it started in southern California they believe it happened during in some of the homeless populations after bags were one theory is after plastic bags were banned in California the homeless people will be going through the garbage and using those bags to partake in and so they would just can't use a plastic bag whatever so without plastic bags there's not a lot of and there's not a lot of bathrooms and things like that the homeless people have easy access to there was a widespread spread we found out that in southern California they had to actually start passing out backs it's almost populations of those other things so Martin and Brevard counties in Florida Armonk seventeen better call critically impacted by the hepatitis a virus scored using today they're the main concern for Florida public health officials and the reason the state Surgeon General declared a public health emergency former Surgeon General doctor Scott Riske's said Friday he believes the declaration will make people take the matter more seriously the number of people diagnosed of Florida in Florida keeps increases of right now there's ten cases per hundred thousand people and the fifteen counties affected our citrus blades Hernando Hillsborough lake liberty manatee Merion okay chill the orange Pasco Pinellas county some for Taylor the list and right now just across their state they have two thousand hepatitis eight cases and we talked about hepatitis A. why would be a public health emergency well there's two reasons one is hepatitis A. affects the liver it's a virus that affects the liver can shut down the liver we don't see as many cases of death and cancer with hepatitis a like you would with PNC but still it could cause vomiting jaundice liver failure hepatitis a is nothing to play around with symptoms could be nausea vomiting diarrhea abdominal cramps yellowing of the skin because as the liver enzymes get killed and inflame the destroyed the break up and their liver enzymes you know it us to creep into the blood and then your liver supposed to be making vile vile helps break down food and fats well if your liver is not working then and the bile doesn't have a nice smooth path to do what it needs to do you start getting build up of those components and I use for getting this yellowish look to use so whatever your friend looks yellow in a look at the whites of their eyes look at the palms of their hands if they have a yellow glow they could have liver disease not necessarily hepatitis but liver disease so we don't mess around with that but what I hear of these public health emergencies right you can't get hepatitis a technically by kissing somebody or sitting next to them on a bus you will have to be exposed to their you know you have to be exposed to something they you know might have had on their hands for the bath and apologize but if you guys are eating breakfast reading lunch or dinner but these are things that you know we worry about with restaurants etcetera and and ratings and so what worries me is if there is a public health emergency is it because Hey people are watching their hands and it's just not enough V. people are unclean see we have some real have fast hero protocols in restaurants or D. we have homeless populations that are growing and not you know being treated contains taken care of and you know having access to healthy people that and getting them second sport in it that way not all the cases are an almost baby patients so when we start getting outbreaks of clusters we start having more brewing more ability for a virus to mutate and so I you know I agree with the state save okay without a clamp down you know we gotta start you know allocated funds and we need to start educating the public now I notice a lot of you guys don't watch chance you'll shake hands he won't wash hands you know glasses at a restaurant I went out to eat was great restaurant you know do I examine the glass to see if I see somebody else's lipstick on their no they don't do I check to see if the staff in the back or scratching you know some of the people most protected against these diseases are those of us who worked in a restaurant I hate to say that because you know we've seen a lot we see what people have done and I don't want to all of us become obsessive compulsive about you're not touching anything anybody else's touched we need to be exposed to other pathogens to gain our immunity but there's a lot of crappy things

"You can hear us at ninety nine point one. Because they don't know that that that's where we are in a can't hear us right now telling them, that's where we are. Because we don't get up there on nine seven. So please get the word out ninety nine point one f m in Pasco Hernando counties at five twenty three were joined now by our buddy, Michael Bauer NBC, News Radio correspondent and Michael stocks went into a nosedive yesterday because of President Trump threatening to impose new tariffs on Chinese made goods. And I mean, some pretty hefty tariffs. He's threatening to do it on Thursday. And do you think he's really going to do that? Well, it it it's tough to tell the gauche eating or is this something the president actually is thinking about doing here in which case that could mean some changes going forward for Americans. But what happened was based upon the discussions yesterday, technically the president issuing some threats via Twitter on Sunday to Chinese government. The Chinese said that they weren't going to come to these talks were initially scheduled to happen this week they've been changed their minds. And now they're coming which is a part of possibility as to why we saw the market sort of rebound yesterday because that big steep decline yesterday and then clawing back almost all of those losses was quite a roller coaster ride for a lot of Americans here. And they're saying that that had a lot to do with these discussions. What was going to happen when the Chinese said that they're going to be here, but a day later than they were supposed to be here. So they're going to have the discussions on Thursday that seemed to cause people to feel a little bit more at ease. Now that also indicated that Trump's tweet threats didn't necessarily deter them we had the bounceback that we had. But after the markets closed, the Trump administer. Rations officials accused the Chinese of reneging on those comments they made earlier in trade talks, and they're still reaffirming their plan to raise tariffs on a wide range of Chinese goods that will begin twelve one on Friday. So just after that one day of negotiating on Thursday, twelve one Friday at least at this point the deadline. The Trump administration is giving for putting a big raise on those tariffs. Michael, it seems like the Chinese officials here they they were surprised by this. They were caught off guard is is that the case. Yeah. It seemed like they weren't necessarily. Sure. What to think of what the president was saying? It wasn't something. They I think they feel like this is a negotiating ploy from President Trump. And that this was a way to try to force them to the table on some level. And when they saw the stock market affected in frankly, still sort of active globally. Meanwhile, we had a big climb here. You're looking at places like the Nikkei index Japan, which is dropped one percent this morning. The Copsey index in South Korea is closed down. And the Dow futures have tumbled more than two hundred points just in that after hours trading between yesterday afternoon in this morning. So there's still some insecurity in regards to all of that. You saw Chinese say that this was a time for them to come back to the table and have these kinds of discussions. So I I'm not sure if it was a whether they took it seriously, or if it was a frightening thing, or what it was or if it was just let's get back to the table and have some kinds of talks here. But it seemed to stabilize things, and then maybe that's what they were looking for was an effort to try to stabilize things after the roller coaster. We saw yesterday. And of course. If those tariffs were imposed that would be a real burden on American shoppers buying Chinese goods because it would drive prices up dramatically. Yeah. I mean when you're talking about the president saying that that that tariffs of ten percent on certain goods within rice the twenty five percent. And that there would be three hundred twenty five billion dollars of goods currently untaxed that could face a twenty five percent duty as well. That's not necessarily a good thing for many Americans who are buying things like electron IX. And that's where you saw a great reflection of these numbers in the stocks yesterday, a bunch of the high tech one. So when you're looking from computers to clothing almost everything out of Beijing would would possibly be charged at twenty five percent here. That's not good for American purchasers and shoppers right now by all means well, anyway, we'll see what happens on Thursday. And what time Thursdays he talking about making that move. Well, it looks like they're going to have they've they've they've had to delay the discussion. So they're having the Chinese into talk on Thursday, twelve o one Friday. So just after midnight Thursday into Friday would be the time that the president would be implementing these these terrorists. Should they go through with that? So that means people awakening if they tune to. WFL a news right here. We'll have the word on whether or not it happened. We might be getting it from you, Michael. Yep. You gotta guys. All right. We'll talk to you later have a good one. It's Michael Bauer. Our NBC News Radio correspondent and you'll find him on Twitter at the Bauer show, and is the price of crab Rangoon going up your..

"Home county Hernando county where I grew up that makes me feel pride and joy. This is another instance where Orlando county not such a great, look, I felt the opposite about this NATO. Kenny father says the bullying in his daughter's kindergarten class at pine grove elementary got so bad that he decided to send her to school wearing a secret recording device. Let's kindergarten by the way, we six years old here. Five six it's before first grade. So if five Sixers defined as weird little mini school Tomas malaria says his daughters bully is the teacher. Valeria says he was told by the principle of pine grove elementary the teacher in question who's been with the district for more than a decade is known to be loud. When he presented the principal with the audio recordings. He assumed it would be like, you know, indisputable evidence that would force the district to do something Valeria says they transferred their daughter to a brand new school. And as far as the district is concerned the case is closed. Basically what the administrator said was that they told the teacher she needs to tone it down and watch her volume. But no further. No now before we go on here. We've all had a teacher like this before. Right. Yeah. Totally know what if we when we were younger had the availability of like audio recording device something like that. The accent of the never even crossed my mind. Not at all be word. They get caught. But I know I've had this teacher before had so many coaches yelling at me about things. Supposed to do it. Right. In kindergarten though. I think that that's the only. All right. So we have the audio now administrators never reviewed the audio because they argue the way it was obtained is against district policy there in ano Kenneth sheriff's office says it's not illegal to record this way. So it's it's a public school building you can record. If you want to this is the audio a bunch of different clips of the teacher in the pine grove elementary school classroom..
