"Ten is postponing the fall football season quote from the commissioner there was too much uncertainty regarding potential medical risks joining us on hold on. We do some other breaking news out of Cleveland Breaking News everywhere today the Indian's had placed pitchers, Mike Clovinger Zach, please sack on the restricted list obviously this after both of them broke cope in nineteen protocols over the weekend in Chicago. The Indians have also reinstated Tyler Nick Win from the injured. List and recall the lefty Logan Allen demand. So some breaking news out of progressively yeah. We'll go into the police act club injure situation a little later in the show but as we were planning on talking about it out of the gate, but then the big ten news hit, and during the break I was listening to the Great. Kirk. Herbstreet the ESPN analyst former Buckeyes. A quarterback and he said it's amazing to him how inconsistent the doctors have been from one conference to the other. And herbstreet is not necessarily guaranteeing that. For example, the SEC will follow suit. With the big ten on this remains to be seen what the other four, the power five conferences do. He also asked questions such as what do you do with the players in the fall? What do you do with these football players in the fall and what are the requirements to play in the spring I? Mean that's a great question. You know and others of asset to taxers to the two, one, zero, nine, five brought to you by roofing does there need to be zero percent colon in the spring? I mean what's the threshold? What's the were yet to find out? It's going to be interesting.

I guess it depends on who you're a fan of I'm I'm a fan of like you guys said of excellence and right now these two teams are at the top of the heat. We could told you in August, if we said, we're sitting around talking who do you guys going gonna be staring at the end, we would probably almost ninety percent of us would have said. So I think there are people that are making a point about it'd be nice to have other teams. I get that. And I can appreciate that. But you know, you have to beat these teams in order to be able to get there to eliminate Alabama to eliminate Clemson both these teams had scares. I mean Syracuse almost give Clemson a scare almost beat them. In alley Alabama. When school went down in Atlanta against Georgia, Georgia almost beat them. They up twenty eight to fourteen and Jalen hurts. It was a hero that day. So both these teams had some scares. "Has to be your number one priority. Why because it's driving the train of cash in the SEC gifts that Ohio State Michigan yet that I mean, the big the big twelve and basketball to somewhat of a lesser extent. The ACC with the dukes North Carolina's. They really matter the Pac twelve we care way too much about lacrosse and soccer. But that's a whole diff-. Tangent. Bottom line. I left the Georgia game thinking one Kirby smart blew the game. There's no arguing that. He got tight. Call the fake punt that's inexcusable. I know he defended it I was watching Scott van pelt. He came on and said, they had the look and he knew the coverage from being Alabama. I get that. But Kirby, you can't run a fake punt in tiger in the SEC championship. When their backup quarterback is in it just inexcusable keep your offense. I'm always four going forward. But winter winter lose with their star quarterback with your star offense of players that had played. Well, but that's neither here nor there. It was clear that after that game. The committee was going to have a tough choice on their hand. No, one with half, a brain could argue that man, you know, what George is one of the best four teams. I saw this year. I it was true. And Kirk herbstreet was adamant, and I got where he was coming from. But in football. There's a reason why the playoffs you don't get the one or two it's never decided on head to head that the draft picks are decided on head to head 'cause football the games matter the season matters. There's you only play a limited.

"They have not won in Columbus since the year two thousand how can stay be the underdog a one loss team. And I know they haven't looked good and Michigan has, but I don't know how you can be the underdog with that track record. And in fact, they they put sixty two on Michigan sixty two points on what was going into that game. These single best defense in the country, sixty to do what you watched everybody watched. What did you think of that? It was never terribly in doubt, the bios laugh Twitter back kickoff offer staff. Yeah. But I mean just just Johnson does get carried away. I do love. Saying of the Ohio State quarterback. He's got to be at that ceremony in New York. Oh, you've got to be there to watch to get that war. I mean to to count it for sixteen five throwing in one rush against all. We're not against Austin P. Maybe it was herbstreet did herbstreet through the Notre Dame game. They're all night came. Okay. And he may have said this. I forget away. Congratulations. Notre Dame are good for Poland. Poland. They did it. And by the way, they ain't Alabama. Is. But I think it was herbstreet who said this varying in talking actually about the Michigan game. But maybe he was relating to Notre Dame. He said, you know. College football has changed. I don't any. He was talking about two and Alabama. And he said, I don't think you can just win with defense anymore. When you talk about like winning the whole thing, it's sort of gone the NFL way. Now where you have to have an offense. I mean, look at twain Haskins did in that game throwing from me and one hundred yards and six touchdowns against what was purportedly defense. He's local he's from Potomac real, oh, he went to bullet. He's he's local. He's here. He's kit. Yeah. Can I can I just make one more recommendation for an amazing what I my favorite game of the weekend was the AM L at the stakes were in his. But that was but those games are fine. They're fine. They're not saying, right. This thing was what the game colossal with the game. Remind me of was win. Jim tressel would take Ohio State who had done very well in the big ten, and it was a dumb team would take the national championship game, and they would play urban Meyer and floor, and they would lose and they would. But don't just lose. They would lose fifty. We've totally redo the way, and they have that was conference dominance thing. Felt like yeah, that's very disappointed in the Michigan quarterback. Wrestle also. Yeah. Have they didn't seem to they said. Well, let's keep handing it off here. And this this the hurt. Maybe I still thought Harbaugh had this mystique that like approach job would open up in the bag Harbaugh may leave Michigan. But like is the Harpo mystique gone. They weren't they still very good rumblings for the colts. Prior to this. Laurie is left on his Holtz there were rumblings about that. Eleven games. Now. Good now right now, they're pretty good. I just I mean, they the big fear at Michigan was well, we'll never be able to keep him. And now when I don't I don't want to. I mean this season they still tend to create right moment. But but what I would and the other loss for them was to Notre Dame. Yes. These are qualified, but you all lost you pay that guy to Ohio State. Now, this is not the college football polls that are out. Now are not the playoff home tomorrow night. But I was very surprised that Oklahoma was a head of Ohio State. Oklahoma has no defense at all. But they have the best offense in the country. Maybe maybe they do. They don't play anybody fast put up sixty two against Michigan. That was that stands up. Do you think they'll be in the playoffs? I guess it depends. I'll say this to you that if Georgia beats Alabama close Georgia, neither Ohio State or Oklahoma are getting it. Right. Not getting in at that point. Because no matter what. Right. I mean, unless they lose loss if they lose to Georgia would be better loss, then Oklahoma's laws or Ojo states loss. The body of their work would be significantly better..

"The Tigers are fighting Irish all on beaten wolverines haven't lost since their season. Opening setback to Notre Dame any of those teams vulnerable at this point. Paul finebaum is. But that's a that's Florida's Alabama Clemson and Notre Dame. I mean, I think of those three Alabama probably has the best chance of and that would be next week against Georgia. Because. Clemson is not losing to South Carolina. I mean that is that is really a mismatch. Yeah. And I think it's a mismatch at the Coliseum Saturday. So you know, Auburn is not really formidable this year or at least right right now. So it comes down to next week. But yeah, I mean, I think the chocolate would say right now that all three will get by by the experts who tell you what is going to happen. And this kind of thing never does happen. It does regardless we're going to have an amazing playoff. Maybe a save for college football season. Because Alabama Clemson where the favorites when it started Notre Dame is. Arguably the biggest name in the history of college, not arguably they are the biggest names in the history of college football. And regardless of who comes in after that won't make any difference. It's going to be very playoff top four the four playoff spots. All stay the same again this week Georgia and Oklahoma still fifth and sixth just ahead of LSU. Washington state is eighth. Notable change in the top ten as UCF is now up to number nine. Looking at UCF at number nine LSU at number seven should one of them be in the top four to our college football group. "Of fans. Herbstreet in Fitzsimmons podcast, thanksgiving's right around the corner. It's his herbstreet Fitzsimmons. Infant Simmons with Kirk herbstreet in Kirk. I am amazed. You're not talking about this about a month ago. But it seems like a month ago was yesterday thanksgiving's here next week and the season. It's coming down to to to here. We are and coming up on a ride. What happened? Smoke a Turkey or do you? Are we going forty deep fry it? Let's see I do. I let my wife and my mom do the traditional oven. You know, when that that for me takes me back to being a kid, but a lot of my peer group, especially now that I'm in the south of talking about the frying it smoking Turkey. So I was thinking of just participating on the sidelines. Just as a backup, you know, just throw on maybe a smoker like a green egg I've ever done that we talked. I think it was three or four years ago before even the podcast, and you were. When I first moved here. And I it was way too dry wasn't feeling that at all. Because I couldn't maintain the heat at two hundred it just kept going up on me. So it's all about air flow with the egg. That's my only son I've got two daughters and have one son, and that's my so how do you maintain like two hundred? You gotta get used to it coach. And this is this is this is where we are in college football right now for this week is if we start off looking into how we're going to get into non dead serious. Get to that point that Syria. Forget three point stance. We're going goal line D. Right. Both hands in the dirt. Here we go. So herb, this is my advice one deep frying. That's an art. And it's it's a love that's a whole different level. Southern that you go deep fried ITAR. You're not ready. You're not ready for that. If you can't, you know, down to stay away from deep frying, let Allie handle the bird, right, and right, you you're you're on the peripheral. I'm a consumer. Yeah. I mean, if you want to do some apps, you know, maybe some some chicken wings on the on the on the egg, right? No, some sausage will some pepper jelly. You. Don't see. I can do the Turkey on the I think you can. But it's it's about airflow, and you have to get like imagine you're spindle on the top. Okay. You want to maybe about put your fingers apart from each other out about maybe two centimeters. And in the bottom. One. You want that open about quarter of an inch to maintain two Honda. There you go. Yeah. Because my my problem is about an hour after about an hour. It starts to climb starts starts to climb. You haven't let it he warm up enough. When you don't want those Kohl's getting white. I can't. And so it's gonna play with it. Dude. You see the problem? You're not during football season. You're gone for the most part. Yeah. I just do you ask real on the football. Yeah. That's that's that's sacrilegious cheating. Right. Oh, dude. Yeah. Yeah. But you can handle the Turkey is a is a cult. I mean, just go online Troy Aikman on on eggs site king. Vice or how do I slow smoke a Turkey? Well, then he and I great minds think alike. He's got the same issue. I've got to go there. It is. I mean, I'll text him and ask him if he came up with any answers. And this is what we're dealing with coming into week twelve of the college football season with thanksgiving on the horizon. And can I can I just say one thing about week twelve quickly on the college football season. Please I think this is a great example week eleven and twelve. Of why we truly need a Commissioner of of college football because the commissioners of each of the conferences have their own conferences, and their coaches and their schedules and athletic, directors and constituents in mind, they kind of live in a silo the networks live in a silo. Everybody's kind of not working necessarily for the betterment of the sport there working for kind of their world. And you can't blame them under the current model. I just think that it's a shame. We get so excited to celebrate college football in late August early September..

"Believe they came from the Edward Don company if I remember correctly. So you mentioned Jordan cornet. All right. So teddy Greenstein wrote something in the Tribune this week the five opponents that stand between Notre Dame and the college football playoff and who could end its hopes. So he does a story and he's got Kirk herbstreet in there. And so when he gets to the north western game. He I guess he contacted Jordan and through via DMZ taxed or whatever he interviewed him so to speak. So this is what this what Jordan had to say about the north western Notre Dame game. He says this one scares me, and you gets up for the Irish the cat. See the love the Irish get nationally and believe that should be them. Similar institutions? No, hold on a minute there. I mean, not name national brand. Northwestern has been finding a footing in the last fifteen years. Yeah. No shot last twenty every every single institution. Is envious of the national tension. Notre Dame game worldwide. I mean deservedly a great program, and they are one of the best institutions of higher learning in the world northwestern's great, but they're not on the level in terms of athletics. Yes. Yes. Probably better. So then he goes on to say he goes plus walkie travel for the Irish takes them out of their normal rhythm, a two hour bus ride as opposed to flying or preparing for a home game. This can't be understated its usual and can hinder an eighteen to twenty two year olds focus. The whole. I mean, they bused to Purdue. In Arbor and east Lansing on a regular basis. I know it's changed a little bit recently with the schedule even doing that for decades and decades, and they've won plenty of those games. I don't know how much bussing two Skokie would affect that. They're focused on that one. And then he says and then being near Chicago there will be distractions distractions distractions lots of ticket requests, lots of friends skipping over to Chicago for it and keeping guys up late. This isn't a fraternity party. They're coming to Skokie right next Friday in the afternoon. They'll have a couple of hours of free time. If you look at that Notre Dame roster. There's more guys from California, Texas. I mean, it's not like it's a. Closes at nine o'clock across from the DoubleTree. They'll be staying like people aren't going to be at maggiano's get over here. Book the bagel is not really a hotspot riding. I'm not buying that there's going to be distractions distract. I mean, look they're going to San Diego for they did they go ahead of time to get acclimated. Did they go yesterday? I don't know if they did. But anyways travel meaning. Yeah. Okay. Jackass? So there's probably more hurdles that they're going to go through going to so much. So that Brian Kelly's decided to keep them in San Diego day and leave like late Sunday because they're playing a nagazine wants to get breakfast. It's news to his favorite spots. Guys. We're going to hang around. So I think was just interesting piece. But I just thought it was like, I didn't think I didn't quite. I've. Disagree with Mr. corn? And a couple of his takes. And he comes back back downstairs with like five, huge pizzas. And he turned each one of us and say, you guys only like eighteen twenty six or whatever we owed by explictly by by four or five guys, and you should see it wasn't like funny like dead serious, like eighteen twenty six or pocketed grin. No, no, no, no. And we'd be pulling out like lent and find a quarter and then like a few dollars and man, I gotta get you. I'll get you back tomorrow and yeah, it was. You've been around the game a long time, and you don't have preseason like you have in high school or the NFL in college. You have some interest scrimmages for a couple of Saturdays. And here you go, you jump in and play. What do you? What do you think the best way to try to figure out who the guy is such a pivotal position when you're looking at an either or kind of situation whether it's yourself or you know, other other coaches that are trying to deal with that, how do you figure that out? Well, I think first of all, yes, forget what. Guys can and cannot do. And is that, is that what you're featuring him to do? If you're asking God to do something, he can't do that his fault or your fault. And I think understanding a guy transcend weaknesses, how he learned what he does that type of throws. He can make what he can't make, then I think is psychological disposition to compete. And I think that's where the team helps you out those guys. You know, I always knew this when I went to the park and played, I had buddies on the team and you probably did this to. We go play and I know we lost. We wouldn't play for another hour and a half. Everybody sitting around wanted to play a basketball game or something. I wouldn't make my buddy. I loved him, but you can watch the play. I wanna play. I wanted somebody out here is going to play lead, and I think sometimes the teams, disposition of who they follow and how they call, you know what you win the team or you how the team reacts to you and how you get those guys. And I think the other part of this is and I really mean this too. It's not just an authentic thing. We talk about each quarterback sometime to quarterback can be a product of the people around him, and you know, his talents don't match what's around him as far as running backs off into line or receivers, and then you're defend what makes your team win best? What put your team in the best position to be successful in the big picture things and sometimes guys can be great player. You see it in pro football guys. He gets from a team go to become a Pro Bowl guy somewhere else. I mean, you know, I, it's just how that team react, how you complement each other offense defense and how you have to play to win. And by the also the supporting cast that's there with him. I, I've seen a lot of people analysts and other people who are writers talk after. Four or five days or the opening week in college football. The the thing that they think about the this, the maybe a theme that they're seeing is offense of line play in this era of spread for even high school teams running spread that they feel that the offense of line play a from the Pac, twelve all the way across to the ACC just all the way across the country that it's not what it used to be because these these linemen are growing up in in different philosophies in more of a spread in. They're coming off the ball and therefore they're not controlling the line of scrimmage your thought on when you used to recruit offense of linemen in the nineties version, recruiting offense alignment today. And do you agree with this pattern or you think it's it's a different anyway? I do think because of their training. I don't think the kids ready to kids are probably even more gifted now. Sure your develop more, but I think you're a product of what you do all you..

"And the game I Don ourselves in the foot EROs on. Defense we got a lot of work to do for the challenges ahead the biggest. Improvement that defense can make Ben This journey guys loose when you see somebody running. Open and nobody's covering somebody messed up Sabin with our Maria Taylor hurts by the way twenty six and two as a starter over the past two seasons, play two series in the first half reentered the game in the third quarter with. The defending champs up forty one to seven, Kirk herbstreet on that quarterback situation for the tie to challenge is going to be the reality is to is. You're starting quarterback and he does not want to bring himself to say that because the respect that he has for Jalen hurts I think he feels if he, if he summons to his earned the right to. Be the guy that, somehow he's he's taking away or or, disrespecting Jalen hurts who's twenty six and two is the starting quarterback but the reality is if you watch this football team. Play it's incredibly clear that, thirteen is the guy with Jalen hurts, coming in periodically to. Try to see what he can. Do but when he's back. There if you didn't watch him play tonight they're distributing the ball. They've got great group wide receivers they can Run the football they've got tight ends and he's getting the ball. All over the place depending on what the defense is doing he reads defenses quickly he's accurate crate decisions there's a lot to like there I said before the, season if he's the quarterback they're going to score. Forty five or fifty, game after watching them tonight I might, raise up even higher so they are machine offensively gotta get better defensively after what I saw tonight with so much youth. On that side of the, football meantime the Michigan Notre Dame series, returned after a three..

"It was just occurred to me in the break there. This is going to be our twenty third season on ESPN college football, which is just mind blowing him trying to go back to nineteen Ninety-six. That was also herbstreet first season. It was the first season of the big twelve. It was the first season of the overtime rule. It's kinda crazy to think I've been doing this for so long, but I also think about how blessed I am because what it what awesome job it is to be able to get paid to to watch and talk about college football and try not to take that for granted even on days like this when we have to talk about off the field stuff, that isn't pretty, it's still a great job with that said, let's get back to the off the field stuff that isn't pretty starting with David, Jackson, Tennessee. I really don't want. I would just say, be Tennessee him out a big urban Meyer fan about tickly care what happens. But I am curious. I mean, why is this been blown? Maybe I haven't heard enough, wiser been even in trouble. I mean, I mean if you haven't employee for any company that does, which I have three girls of someone or to, you know, assault one of my daughters. I, you know, I would not gonna give him arrested. It seemed like the guy was arrested. You know, it's out there, wiser reminding held to any responsibility for this the first. But yeah. Good. David, in any workplace, if a person is arrested for, you know, domestic violence, they immediately fired. I, I don't understand what's going on. Right. So, and they're probably other people listening who are wondering the same thing as you are. So let me let me try to to back up and explain that for those who haven't been with us since this whole thing started on Wednesday, urban Meyer obviously was not involved in the domestic violence. And so therefore he. He is to some people would seem to be a bystander. The reason that it applies to him refects him is because of title nine. And perhaps also because of a clause in his contract that obligates him to report things like this. Now in this in this case, the alleged victim Courtney Smith is is not an employee of the university. She was not a student, none of the incidents. Occurred on the Ohio State campus. So she is not protected by title nine abut because. The her, her husband or her ex husband. Zach Smith was an employee as an assistant coach at Ohio State. This apparently falls under the umbrella of title nine and urban Meyer as his supervisor is required to report this if he has knowledge of it. And that's kind of where we are right now. That's the question. Did urban actually have knowledge of it? And if so, did he fail to report it to the to the proper people according to protocol and that that's that's why this is up for discussion right now. It's, it's. It's not so much. Did urban break the law in the typical sense, it's that did he fail to fulfill his obligation contractually and under title nine is head coach of Ohio State was the coach arrested from the violence. He was at least one time during all this. He was arrested. There were other times that police were called to the scene. And it's basically, you know if there is knowledge of of domestic violence or even potential domestic violence, it's not up to the to the head football coach or the supervisor to determine whether an actual crime occurred. It is up to the supervisor to let other people at the university. No, that something may have happened and then allow them to do their jobs. And that's what we're we're wondering is is whether that happened in this case, let's go to Ethan in Charlotte..
