"The second half here in Ann Arbor, 48 27, Michigan on top after 20 minutes. To see how the second half goes on. Offensive rebounding side of things again. Michigan talked about that is a priority. They knew right state was going to get after the offensive glass, they still give up 13 offensive boards. In that first half Michigan do a better job. Limiting right state. Second chance opportunities here in the second half will find out right state with the ball to begin the second half. They'll go left to right. In their road black uniforms with green and gold wolverines in the home maze uniforms with blue and white trim. He's a veteran of World War, Two specifically with the sixty ninth infantry division artillery is joining us today to talk about his family's to sing wish service to our country as well as the work of the sixty ninth division, what start with when you joined the service, you're actually drafted in April of nineteen forty three but your family was part of a very important moment in World War, Two history, the year before one thousand nine hundred eighty two and the Doolittle raid. Your father played a key role. Tell us about that. My father was in the first World War. Sure, brother, uncle who is killed, and he stayed in the national guard, and he was a Master Sergeant in the first World War. Eventually got a commission and stayed in the national, and the third engineers pencil. Elena national guard. I guess he was a battalion commander. He was a major and they got called back and February nineteen forty they were activated and. What would the anyway he was called back service? And then they changed the division. They went from what they call the square division to a triangular division, and he was somewhat overage in grade for the reduced the number of engineers. So he was transferred to the air force. And if my recollection he was stationed in Washington and horribly board and general then Carl little came along and said. What are you doing that? I'm boarding Boorda's hell, he said, you wanna do something, and my father said anything. So he won along with little as administrative officer, he did not fly a but. He went with them when they train down today cornfield they had a navy pilot there who train these fellows to take off in the distance of a carrier, which they did and never been done before. And so they had I think they had enough people for. Thirty two crews and they, they only had sixteen fluids, I recall, and they were given a chance at the very end to say this is a dangerous mission. Do you want to go, and I think everyone who was listed to go. When have I father came back, of course, I don't have a clue about what's going on. I'm. Make a senior in high school interested in other things, and he brought me back on Wyan bathing, suit and shirt, and I want to rather strict boy school. So I thought I'd wear the shirt with a tie and jacket the school. And of course, the head mashed or sent me home to pick off my pajamas. So my father served in the first World War, he served with his brother and my mother's brother. They weren't married at the time and he was killed after the war removing chairman minds. So then they decided that's ridiculous. What the Germans remove and they put him in so many my through that my father, my father had met my mother, but they hadn't gotten married and make up married after the war..

"Gather separately for for in American units. But there was one young man in particular. I think he was a railroad porter from Albany, New York, and I'm going to turn it over to Laura to tell his story. Fantastic. I think he might be talking about private Henry Johnson of the three hundred sixty ninth regiment, that's part of the ninety third division. And the ninety third division is is actually the division that fought with the French. They've got that. If you look through this black and white photos, you'll you'll note that they've got of the Adrian how met it's the one with a little bit of a ridge on the top. And it is a group known as the Harlem hell fighters, they actually were the the winningest of our US forces. They serve nearly two hundred days at the front was the most decorated unit in the American army, and it is because of his actions and his Harare actions during World War One that were they were lauded at the time, but private Johnson was denied national recognition during his lifetime really due to prejudice. And it was. Finally in twenty fifteen when he received the medal of honor beneath President Barack Obama that there's tremendous number of stories of these not only soldiers, but these volunteers you have you, gene blurred. Who is the first African American aviator for the United States. He serves with the Lafayette Esca drill. Almost forgotten in his lifetime in the United States. But is actually brought back to France and celebrated takes part in national ceremonies and commemorations later on heath got volunteers who serve over some women who serve overseas on the American side, Anna tremendous homefront effort as well and Africans as Tom the caller mentioned earlier, certainly played not only a part in these colonial armies, but the entire continent of Africa ended up embroiled in this war as well. With over two million dying in east Africa itself, and it actually isn't until two weeks after the armistice is signs that you have a German general who ends up at German commander, Paul von Leto ver- back who doesn't surrender until he. He later finds out that there actually was an armistice on the western front, and that's part of these stories that you just don't hear as much about run. It is an really prime in a good opportunity for us to be telling these and to be looking back at this global history in this global sacrifice. So we'll just one more note about about Johnson who were talking about who belatedly under President Obama received the medal of honor. I mean, I'm seeing here that in. I mean, his what he did during the worst tremendous, right? May of nineteen eighteen he was on century duty when a German rating party. Came along. And he he lobbed grenades until you run out of grenades shot his rifle until he ran out of bullets use the butt of his rifle rifle against the German soldiers. He confronted, and then when his rifle jammed ended up, you know, he all he had left at the end was a knife and still managed to wound ten to twenty Germans and prevented that rating party from breaking through the French lines. I mean almost single handedly. This is incredible. It absolutely as both Henry Johnson and Needham Roberts, and they were so well known at the time they actually were painted into the pantheon delegator, which was the world's largest oil painting that celebrated the heroes of the first World War. Well, we've got a lot of callers. Join us. Let me just bring at least one more in here. Richard is calling from Portland. Maine, Richard you're on the air. Hi, thank you for taking my call. He said he warned me that we would be groomed to glorify war and to see violence as a solution for conflict. He said that as a boy scout they were taught to you. Toy wouldn't guns to March up and down the aisles of churches, any believe that that helped groom their their troop for war. I'm guessing I don't. I don't know what the analytic say, but now goes back to too much analytics and last night, Dave Roberts was playing the odds, the analytics. And known? Yes, hit the three run home. Right. Poll question mclovin. We're gonna stay with what we had first our, yeah, our analytics hurting baseball, seventy six percents. Yes. So that's kind of one sided. I'm sure out the question. I don't know if this interesting guys, if you could be a coach or manager in any sport, which would be the most fun baseball football, basketball, we could put in hockey or soccer up to you. What do you mean? Fun? Well, like what you most want to do because you're saying some interesting things about how you want. If you were a baseball manager, you use your gut more. I, I think that honestly, I would love to coach basketball myself. Okay. I feel baseball would be a little too mechanical like you'd have to rely on the numbers too much. When bees much ado football, you have a lot of pract. Baseball doesn't have practice who mostly games. That's good football. You got a lot of practice. He play one game and then you got five or six days of prep baseball. You get to wear a uniform. Yeah, but most of those guys should be wearing now. You guys like us are in decent shape can get away with it. If you're an NBA coach, do you guys listen to you? That's one question I would add. What big stars? Yeah, but what. What coaching position are you more likely to have somebody listened to you. Football, you're supposed to listen to the coach. I feel like that's the don't. They still well, you're supposed to in all sports? Yeah, but come on. We know then like nobody LeBron is the coach. No, he's accurate. Listened to the code? Yeah, for two Tennessee, like an easy gig. You're not allowed to coach. You sit there and eating drink and hope that you're a player does something good on the, you're not allowed to talk to him to coach. If you're a coach, we found that at the US open, have a beverage of catch up with your player afterwards. All right, Patrick Mahomes join us coming up in Adrian Peterson as well. Where's Adrian Peterson on the all time? Rushing list. He's in the top ten moving up fast. Okay. He could end up by thick six at the end of this year, if things go, well, if he has a thousand yards season. How old is he? See thirty three thirty four no thirty three. Here's something for him. Adrian Peterson on pace to rush for thousand yards something. Only four different players that old or older done. Nine, John Riggins is one of them. In Frank Gore's wanted them here is the list Reagan's actually did it twice. Reagan's was thirty five when he rushed for thousand yards. Frank Gore's there. John Henry Johnson and oh Franco Harris Franco was thirty three when he did it rush for over thousand years. Adrian Peterson plan. Well, so far for Washington Yama club, I bought all Famer, right. Yeah, I think so. He despite some of the controversy probably well, you're not supposed to factor that in what he has thirty five games. This career. And he missed twenty five percent of his career due to injury and other things yet. But look at the numbers. He put up. Yeah. I mean, how many other players have you said, well, he missed this number of games. I just say his career to me seems like a little bit of unfinished business like where it could have been. He's his yards per carry yards per game..
