Where Did Body Mass Index Originate?

"Today. We're looking at whether it really is that bad for your health to be fat and a quick note about our words in this episode. A lot of people don't like the words overweight or obese. Some people prefer the term fat as a neutral way to describe a person's body like tall but not everyone is comfortable with using fat this way and meanwhile overweight and obese have specific definitions medicine. So we're going to end up using all these terms but we'll try to be careful about when and why we use them okay so in order to talk about this at all we've got to with the bmi the body mass index every stat. You've never heard about how many americans are overweight comes from this measure. Hundreds of thousands of studies rely on it. It's a staple of modern medicine. So where on earth did it come from to find out. We're going to go back to the nineteen fifties do the university of minnesota's football stadium. The golden gophers are battling it out in the big ten conference. Our story starts down in the depths of the stadium entered through gate twenty seven. Just as if you had a ticket gate twenty so and then there's a maze of of hallways and offices along under the sloping of the The bleachers above this is henry blackburn. He's taking us to the lab where the bmi was born. He's a professor emeritus and minnesota so When when we worked there on a saturday could hear a distant rumble. When the minnesota eighteen got a touchdown run out and run up the causeway and see if we could see the extra point kick sometimes invaded by berman. Because of all those who left the stands and the carter but it was our place. Were very much at home. There and one thing they were doing and as weird lab was trying to answer this big question. How much fat do we have in our bodies. This was important because scientists figured it was the first step and understanding whether fat is bad for us

Lobsang rumba oh it was cyril henry hoskins not a tibetan buddhist monk was a plumber from england and i really became a little bit obsessed because it was essentially a hoax but despite it being a hoax and people knowing that it's a hoax and i'm using the word hoax were maybe called something else It really doesn't stop the book from being sold. It doesn't stop it from being a book that people enjoy. Yeah it's just such an interesting cultural thing when it comes to. Especially westerners getting into buddhism Not a ton of avenues especially in the mid nineteen fifties. I mean it's not like a ton of avenues. in general. I guess i mean compared to. Maybe you know. Fox's Greg Gutfeld Weighs in on Perceived COVID Vaccine Risks

"Greg gut failed to lisa boothe pushing back against the narrative that the vaccine is highly dangerous data. The is weird. Because it's self reported and you it's not actually controlled. I mean there's people can write in and say whatever they want. cdc's still uses it as a source of information and that's reflagged early warning signs. And yeah you're right it's self reporting. It's not one hundred percent verifiable but if you look at for one year loan since december twenty twenty till now had more deaths than all other vaccines from nineteen ninety two now and i'm sitting in for me. There's no. I don't think there's any deaths caused by the vaccine. Yes there has been caused by maybe one. No there's been verifiable. Where poor title and henry. I think out of the millions. It's probably close to zero. But that's if someone is not at risk of kobe why would they have to go get vaccinated. It should be up to them in their own personal risk. No but that's an some people should get kobe. That's a different argument. what you're saying. I'm not disagreeing with you. People individual choice dot disagree. When i'm saying you can't say that the vaccine is high risk right now. The data says otherwise. It actually says that it's probably one of the most low risk things anyway. We've got to move on. And i tend to agree with greg. Good field i mean. I don't think it's high risk at. I don't think the data's data supports that at all. But you you get to determine for yourself if you're wanting to take the risk ultimately you get to decide whether you're going to risk getting cogut and that's that's a risk that everybody can take and in a sense. We're all taking a risk with the breakthrough infections that we've seen. There are lots of people who have been vaccinated who've gotten co vid and the vast majority of those people have stayed out of the hospital but this is. This is a decision you get to make. Why doesn't the left wanna let people make that decision for themselves.

"Than a year. After henry's death. Mary was offered a new opportunity to become dean of douglass college. The women's college of rutgers university where she was a professor in nineteen fifty eight. Mary was invited to a national. Science foundation. committee created to improve the nation's performance in the field of science in a series of tests designed to figure out what blocked strong students from continuing into careers in science. The time women had serious. Barriers to access college education endowments for women's colleges were much lower than those of their male counterparts. Perhaps most importantly curriculum requirements didn't accommodate the different societal expectations for women. For example many universities made it nearly impossible for students to attend part time as a result women who had to care for children during the day at home could not attend mary. It her mission to redesign the education system to accommodate and encourage women to study. She got her first chance at serious reform. When in nineteen sixty she became president of radcliffe college the undergraduate women's college at harvard university there. She saw the stark differences between the ways. Mary set about changing the campus. She organized the dorms into a house. System built radcliffe. Vegas Raiders Cut Down Roster to Initial 53-Man Roster

"Get right to it sam. The raiders cut their roster down to fifty three. It's not etched in stone whatsoever. There's going to be a lot of moves. I think made over the next forty eight hours but any surprises regarding what What we saw today. How you doing great work today. Greg today becky over. A number of those moves broke several of those transactions. Great work as always. We appreciate it for me biggest surprise. I don't think there's a ton of surprises. You take a look at the roster in for the most part guys that we expect it to make the team guys that had prominent roles in training camp guys that we expect to have. Prominent role season are on the team The one surprise to me. And i guess it's not too much surprise when you contextualize training camp and how everything went through the preseason Brown three years removed from the one thousand yard season. You figure you know his speed. His veteran presence could play a factor there that receiving core. But it goes to show you that. The raiders have a lot of faith in henry rugs in bryan edwards to take a step forward in hunter renfro to continue to be a productive sought receiver and and felt it was. It was a mutually beneficial. John brown asked for his release. I expected to be a market for him with the raiders. Feel good about where they are at receiver. So that was the biggest surprise for people for the most part this roster looks how i expected it to look at this point of the season. What about you. What did you think. Yeah and As it relates to john brown zeta-jones also continues To to emerge as a guy that the raiders value as a reserve player maybe even as a spot starter. There's a lot of value in zeta-jones that goes obviously the numbers because he really hasn't put the numbers up but there's a chemistry that he has with dr carr. There's also an understanding now going into year. Three in this offense of what the raiders are doing so Not a bad option to have that deep down on under depth chart. It'll be interesting to see what some of these younger wide receivers Dita turner and dylan. Stoner who did get cut. Whether they're brought back in some capacity. Very lisa i would think both would be on the practice squad. And who knows maybe one could end up. On the on the regular season roster fifty three man roster

Yep yep the cliff is saying brady should add tire. I understand if you wanna stick. Aaron donald in there because arrand. Donald is a better defensive. Today, parts of Connecticut and Rhode Island have mandatory evacuations and over to the West in New York Governor Andrew Cuomo has declared a state of emergency for parts of the state, including New York City. That's where NPR's Jasmine Garcia is and she joins us now. Good morning, Jasmine. Good morning. So what is the extent of the damage so far? Well, the brunt of the storm hasn't hit yet, But the preview started Saturday night with intense rainfall and flooding. Here in New York City. We saw extremely heavy rain and flash flooding and as we move forward, the concern is also that high tides could lead to worse surges as the storm hits. Parts of southern New England are already getting tropical storm conditions and folks who are traveling should expect delays and cancellations and in New York several parts of the commuter system have been suspended. And you know, this storm came on pretty fast. As of last night, Various cities sponsored concerts were still happening as audiences got absolutely drenched and waited through some flooding to get back home. What's expected as Andre moves in closer Tens of millions in the region are under tropical storm warning. There's been mandatory evacuations in coastal areas across the eastern Seaboard, Connecticut and Rhode Island have asked folks to shelter in place. Residents are also being told to expect power outages as the storm hits so people sheltering in place should be prepared for that, and The National Guard in New York, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island has been activated to help with any rescues and

"The Tennessee Titans when you were there? Did you have any contract disputes with them? I forget if we talked about that, was there any? Yeah, toward the end it got you got, you know they wanted me to take a pay cut. Secret play cut. I said, Well, you know How? How? How deep of a pig just hands. You mean, so the fact of the matter is it didn't end well with the Dallas one year and played with the star on the helmet and under Bill Parcells didn't end very well for me it all well, I mean, that's that's on me for bringing that up, but I'm talking about is next offseason. There's like 11. For mere running backs that air hitting the market like like every running back that you basically can think of right now stop your head. That's like, Oh, that guy's a great running back. He's going to be a free agent next off season, so it's gonna be very much like the quarterback care. So that happened this past offseason. There's a big name free agent Dalvin Cook was in the middle of contract negotiations. They say they're going to cut it off. He was potentially, you know, there was a chance he wasn't gonna work out or anything like that. And then aside from the runningback situation, you look at what Melvin Ingram is doing where he's doing like a hold in where Going because of CBS says they can't find him if he's at practice. But he's not practicing whenever guys like, hold out for their business sense. I think the locker rooms like Hey, that guy's gotta take care of his business. Like if he wants it, he's gonna get his money. He's gonna get his money. This whole Holden thing where they show up, but they don't do anything. I think that is a very, very interesting That's a very interesting dynamic. I think he tries to see face by being there, but also saying, I need a long term contract given where the running back position isn't the optics on the position in the market on the position. It does if they don't have the leverage. You know, Derrick Henry gotta deal that he felt comfortable signing unless you were a McCaffrey. You know, they figured out a wonderful deal for him to sign to get maximum dollars. So the market for the wedding bags aren't necessary. Isn't a rowboat over bust one and or do you really have the leverage because they looked upon as A diamond. A guy this diamond US 10 10 free agent running backs will hit the market and I guarantee you it's going to be a organizational friendly deal if they go back to the organization. He's not going to be a win win with the runningback wants to get so we have the week. See, how do you? How do you say I wasn't able to separate it whenever I got into the negotiations, and some things were said about me like I was the I was the piece on pawn stars that they walked in with everything. We think this I I wasn't able to handle it. I got like when somebody said about me I'm like you don't even know like who are you just like it's hard to separate. That entire listening business. You gotta take your emotions out of about 27 26 year old kid. It's hard for him to take the emotion out of business. Because guess what money is on the line. They're going to try to get you at the cheapest, very possible while you're trying to maximize your dollar value. Your future value and all of that, so you got allow, you know the motions to come out of it. If you could put compartmentalize your emotions from your business sense, then that's great. But some guys are can't do it because you put so much energy and focus in your craft. Leave the hay on the best. I need to get every dollar guaranteed. Well, it don't work that way. I don't work that way. So you there's a win win. There's compromise that gotta figure out what that is. And what you're comfortable will take it home. You know, in terms ofthe you're the contract terms, the guarantees of the longevity and how your view you know what I'm saying. So That's why these kids don't understand. This is a business First row is about the right team. Gold culture titans I mean, you could be where one uniform one day to the next is about maximizing your platform, your dollar value and get them and get now healthy should ask what it's all about. Yeah, winning, by the way. What brings all of that is what it is Always the message that's like how you kind of balance. That's all the coaches kind of balance the business in the personal side, Okay? If you win, there's enough to go around. And then there's guys looking around like, well, it's in that interesting because I feel like we just won in area. Nothing coming around this way. Wait here It is A very It is a interesting thing, especially what this year with the mouth, guys we're gonna have to buy in to do the whole thing. I'll be intrigued to see how this affects business and everything moving forward. Speaking of business, how's your business doing? I'm not rich enough to be able to help you manage my money. Actually, you are man. Peyton Manning over your over your shoulder. A Jayhawk? That's your goatee, huh? Okay. I couldn't tell. Okay. I was going to say you got the spokesperson for nationwide up there. But anyway, now just change a spokesperson for Ohio Night actually going really well, The markets are doing great. My clients are happy with where they are expanding on the business looking to my wife actually got into the business well from Oscar moral side. Helping individuals get into the insurance business, really no type of experience that we're building out agencies. She is under that umbrella. And because there's Hi employment. People are getting furloughed. They're looking for the options Awesome way.

"Back with a couple of games last night, a rain shortened game boy, The sky's really opened up that they did. Holy cow. I dozed off before the finality of the Dodger. Giants game, but I watched a fair bit of that. Especially Dustin Maze. Excellent work coming in for Clayton Kershaw to be scratched. They just keep rolling him out, man. I mean, like You acquire Muecke bat's fine, But look what Challenger's turning into. And Jack Peterson's been okay player for them. Corey Seager. Everybody thinks Gavin locks is going to be a superstar. It. Dustin may. I mean, it's like one at Walker Buehler. It's one after another. They just keep rolling him out the machine. It really is a machine that reminds me of when they're producing players like that record paints at a young age for for a while, they had, like, four straight Rookie of the year winners. You are correct. Can you name Steve Sax. I don't know if he was one Mike Piazza. Mike Piazza for sure. Tell you another one Hell of a day. No, mo today. Oh, no, mama and I'm going on. I think I can get the last two. My guesses are Eric Karros. And Johnny, Come. Mark Grudzielanek, Margret Salonica, marking you Double check mine. Burke. I could check the merch not listening to us. He's feeling I had Marc Ratelle Act never won rookie Who's doing his own show, but common Mark Grudzielanek. Rookie of the year. I'm guessing I didn't say it was for sure I would lie like that. Come on our Karros, Piazza gradual. Wanna know most? Yeah. Alright, Frank collar, 1969 mark in the 94 in a row. I'm getting to it. He had in the in the 19 seventies. Ric Stock, 1988 Steve Howe 81. They've Fernando Valenzuela already Tuesday at your goes guy. Steve Sax. Okay, 19 8 to Eric Heroes 93. Mike Piazza. That's what we said before Raul Mondesi, Roman 95. 96 caps. Good friend, former Cubs analyst Todd Hollandsworth out of 2006 So they did They have five in a row in the 1916 Corey Seager 2017 Cody Bellenger That's The point is they did in the late seventies in the early eighties, right in the nineties. They did in the nineties, and here they are now starting to do it again. They've won seven straight division titles on It's going to be eight right this year. I mean, unless something crazy seems that way, I hope the White Sox are like them. Please, kid me, But what did they do to they've been able to turn over their town. I know that's what you got to do. That's Cubs got to do, but the Cubs seem reluctant to do. Someone staying on team. You've got to find a way to do it. So the N f L p A's talking again today, and they're still trying to hammer out some issues with league. There was a weird threat last night from the league that briefly was making the rounds on social media where they well, maybe we'll just cancel the preseason and Training camp altogether, You know? Can you imagine you're gonna have to send everybody home? You've got to do it virtually Good luck getting ready for a football season virtually, but I think it's all posturing right now. I think you know, I think that's all that is. But there are still a few significant things that hammer out before they go to camp. Next. I was on pro football talk dot com and they've got a story on there about the brawl that could be coming much players over guaranteed money. You play house. There's a division within the place rank and file with the players Association. Yeah, The players that don't have guaranteed contracts are more willing to play. Even if you have a guaranteed one. If you don't play the game, you don't get your money. Don't get your money, boy. What would that do to a guy like Dak Prescott, who just signed a fully guaranteed one year contract. Because he signed on $31,000,031 million. So it would cost him too. Roughly $2 million say they only played 14 games. It would cost him well. That's not bad. Two sixteens heir to 17th remember they always include the bye week. Divided by seven. Okay, so they don't do it. 16. They do it to 17. Okay, 1 17 So what York I meant what if they play two games? What That would mean for a guy like Dak Prescott. Or who else signed his franchise that somebody else playing it then we gotta deal. Chris Jones got a deal. I'm just think of the franchise, guys. Anybody else playing on attack this year or no, I'm trying to think now because we buy the other guaranteed contracts from your rookies have guaranteed contracts. Yeah, the first round picks, all right. Right? Yes. Yeah. So that's that money that they're talking about, too, And they don't have money because they're rookies, right? You know, I mean, like, yes, Janek and got away. I don't think Did he sign it? Or is he trying to get a nice forces? Free night? Hell out he wants, you know, like Jones. Gotta deal. Derrick Henry. Gotta deal. I'm trying to think of who else is that's going to play for deck Prescott. It could be brutal. If they play two or three games, and something happens like can you imagine? Is all of this? Not not the financials, But just you know how this training camp might actually be played out your and especially now in the preseason, like I am starting a vassal ate a little and wonder like is it Setting up where Mitch is going to be the starter week one. I don't know what the heck to think. I mean, I guess we'll see what it looks like next week, and if they go to camp, and they actually start practicing Chris and I were going to talk about this yesterday. We never got to it. It was like very baseball Ian in the one soda and has happened, But Dan Wiederer wrote a good article in the Tribune yesterday. Everybody Dann Wieder, who covers the Bears. Sort of giving you the timeline of when things started to deteriorate between I shouldn't say deteriorate. Let me rephrase that when the coaching staff really started to wonder If Mitchell Travis Key was the right man for the job. And he kind of traced it back to coming out of the buy. And Mitch coming back from the shoulder injury in a very up and down week of practices they prepared for the Saints. Remember they were getting the Saints at home with a backup quarterback with Teddy Bridgewater. And Mitch was coming back. And if you remember, Dan pointed this out as the week went on, he was a full participant. And then all of a sudden on Friday, he showed up. And his classifications for the day had changed. And Dan reported. That is because coaches were very worried about Mitch from that week of practice, both mentally and physically, that it wasn't good, and then they lose that game. And he points to a few plays in the game that Mitch Miss. Not that that game was particularly close. The final score was not indicative of how that game went. The Bear's pretty much got run out of the building of the Saints. But then the next week Against the Charger loss was the one that really had the coaches wondering, like scratching their heads. Yeah, what is going on? And why is he missing So many plays? And why is he missing so many throws and that if you remember his mat Nagy getting real defensive about kicking I'm not trying to pick up a few extra yards and hand the ball off. That's when sort of the beginning of the like..

"Sports I on college basketball podcast where we sometimes discuss camel fighting and leaky Black Matt norlander said with be an if you listen to podcasts. You know I was very right about something and very wrong about something else like really wrong about something else so in the spirit of humility milita. Let's start with the wrong on Sunday. Night podcast I said Michigan State would be up fifteen points on Tuesday night and win by double digits. Turns out the exact opposite happened. Happen in reality Duke was up. Fifteen points on Michigan State led by as many as twenty two won the game by double digits. Eighty seven seventy five inside the Breslin Center. So I was was woj wrong about that but what I got right is when I said if Michigan State Loses folks would start asking questions about the spartans and now here we are folks totally reasonably. Ask Him big questions about Michigan State wide. It's because Michigan State is now five and three with a sixty nine sixty two neutral court loss to Kentucky team that subsequently lost at home to an Evansville ability. One hundred seventy six akin pop. The spartans also have seventy one sixty six neutral court loss to the Virginia Tech Team. Pick fourteenth in the preseason. AC ZIPPO and they also have Tuesday's eighty seven seventy five loss at home to a team. That was missing. Its third leading score and just a week removed from losing at home to a Stephen F.. Austin and team that's ranked two hundred I it Kim Palm. Combine all that with effect of Michigan. State's best win is a win over to law Seton Hall team that it actually trailed by five with a minute the fifty remaining and it's clear at least in my mind. It's time to stop pretending. Michigan State. Is Anything close to what it was supposed to be for what it's worth. I now have the spartans completely out of the top twenty five one once a norlander let me ask you this on a scale of one to this is FM bananas. How surprised were you? That Michigan State got wit at home on Tuesday night. I won't go to the F. and bananas level there but I was plenty surprised. I didn't think that Duke had that kind of game in them at all. I I thought Duke had a chance to win. We address this on the previous podcast. Obviously but I didn't if you watch that game start to finish as I did the style. In which Duke was able to win the game and dominate Michigan State and there. Were I understand that. There were some issues with Xavier. Tillman run into the foul trouble but even even small stuff like duke occasionally originally because of its athleticism and its length like making caches winstons lack of athleticism and his ability that one area of his game kind of you know obviously being Something that could become an issue Michigan state later in the season when it runs up against teams in the tournament I thought was eye opening. I was a little confused with how Michigan State opted to try and defend Vernon Carey junior for some of the game and I. I know way thought that Tom Izzo and his coaching staff thought. Yeah we've got the bodies we're just GONNA handle carry one on one no matter matter. What but B? Because of missed assignments or clever scheming on behalf of his staff Vernon Carey junior just found himself available available to do damage on the block even stepped out and hit a three which is just like a little spicer. He's got to his game. He's been terrific and we get to more more of him in a second but my my main takeaway on Michigan State is I understand that it was picked number one with the understanding that just lankford would be available to the team that was. That's a lot of what went into it but this is the last time I swear to myself that I'm going to fall for the preseason groupthink because we have had example after example time after time in the past ten to twelve years in most seasons where there has been a favourite in the preseason to me Michigan State was as heavy favorites. We've had a long time. But Ah we need to caution ourselves when we get to the end of October and we're dying for the season to get here convincing ourselves that there's ever going to be one team. That is so clearly ahead of the pack of the others. It doesn't mean we can't get there but presuming that in the preseason to me is Is a bit of a folly here. Michigan State can and will get back into the rankings. I get that I agree with your decision to do that. By the way take him out of the rankings. I agree with that. They have trouble with the Georgia team. That almost lost the Shamanov. Like I don't have a problem with that whatsoever but Michigan state just. I'm a little stunned has as many any issues as it does right now that was on its own floor you retire draymond green number. It's weird. How in sports when you have those kinds of ceremonies banner raising ceremony? Get your ring retire a number that always always end up in losses but there's some weird funk if you've ever noticed that like when you have these big things around the home team usually underperforms you saw that there you had people Andrea bill that podcast hundreds of people leaving Breslin with five and a half six minutes to go because it was done credit to duke got a great win the Duke Fan and I told you you could beat Stephen F. Austin but lose by fifteen Michigan state or you could take a loss against Stephen S. Austin or win the way you did at Michigan State. I kinda think they would take what we have. The latter of that so credit to them but Michigan State your weird one right now and definitely not one of the top ten teams in the sport and we'll see what Ohio state doesn't want veered. You don't look like a top three team in the big ten right now. I was in studio last night on. CBS Sports Network. And I was talking with John Dean and he said listen. The the Michigan State team that everybody ranked number one included Josh Lankford. Who is going to be a double digit score and their best two way player and so on and so forth and so we shouldn't be surprised that Michigan State doesn't look like that I'm one team? They don't have a very important player that they were relying on to be that. And I can see the point unlike chore but that doesn't explain why Michigan State. It's not a top twenty. It doesn't explain. Why mixed stinks relatively speaking right? I mean they don't stink like other school steep but relative to preseason expectations. They don't look anything like what they were supposed to look like and it is interesting. You know hindsight's an amazing gift. You look back on it and you go okay. Why why was I so convinced that a team with probably know first round draft I was going to be the best in the country given that that never happens? The best of the country is never a team. That doesn't have I a first round pick and yet we all I include me in this. We all like just will Michigan state must be number one. I'm sort of with you like I think next next season going into it rather than look back at the two thousand nine hundred twenty season and try to bring back what and who's enrolling would and come up with my own idea India about what I think should be the number one team. I'm GonNa look at what is usually the number one team and if it's never a team that doesn't have first round draft picks every team that doesn't have the first round draft pick mark through they cannot be under consideration. I like that I I do genuinely like that approach because I remember thinking about a week Acre so before because I thought this about duke the last season or maybe this team the season before about just like you know again just this is going to be the number one team team. He spent an offseason doing it. Y- you know we've got to the point where there are five or six outlets online that are going to do the occasional update to their top twenty five rankings in the offseason and so then when we finally finally landed in November we have just done the slowest of slow. Boil on this. And and you know you can kind of get yourself in a little bit of trouble. They're now having etc that by the way Michigan State still top eight and tour vic third and Ken Palm Credit to Saginaw Check Michigan State's down to fourteen eighteen and saga in which is also another predictive metrics credit there because the predictive metrics are still buying in right now at Kent Thomas Louisville One Duke it to Michigan State. Three you got to believe Ohio State wins on the road against UNC. On Wednesday night. I'll have state will leap over Michigan State in that regard but it's four and then Virginia which has a road game against purdue and that's oddly a fascinating one in which Virginia's underdog there currently fifth at Ken Palm Right Now I think that they will get it fixed here. Man Tillman's got ovoid foul trouble in. Henry's gotTa be better. He is a really really fun. Solid player. He's just not as consistent as I think he should be. Overall I have I have. I have the confidence is I was going to get it right but listen like that single game. It's not a seat bump situation Paris. I honestly honestly at this. This point Michigan State. Five three. It is way behind the eight ball for one seat. It can get back there. Of course it came with all the opportunities it has but you lose against Kentucky Okay and you lose against Duke and then you lose on a neutral to Virginia Tech Team. That's not going to sniff the NCAA tournament when we get to the end of February and bracket stuff is out there. Michigan state barring a dominant run in the big ten which. I don't think it's going to happen. It's going to find itself getting to a one C to be a pretty tough road not in a possible one. Just a tough one. I agree with you. I still trust disfigured. He's he's Tom Izzo. When does he ever not gotten things figured out? But it was an perhaps me and I. I think lots of us make the mistake of doing this. Sometimes we take One outlandish opinion and then like You know focus on it for more than we should which is often just one second but I saw something on twitter like well. I'm not sure is those approaches adapting to the new way basketball wants play like the guy was in the final four last April. All right like you went thirty games and was in the final four last April so I I don't subscribe to that but I I will say again benefit of hindsight no obvious first round picks and can't shoot like that's a great combination for being great in college basketball if you don't have pros and you can't shoot dude. Good luck. Well I will say this so that criticism of Izzo is not accurate. Because I did a story last season on Izzo specifically going to Steve Kerr who was on hand last night obviously for for draymond ceremony and saying I know we can't duplicate what you guys do a golden state. But can I get some tips on how we can get there. And to is owes Credit Michigan. State's offensive offensive identity has drastically evolved over the past decade. Here okay There's still to my shock the most effective and inefficient offense right now in the sport just offensive efficiency but particularly with three-point shooting. Now it's not there this season I get that but last season top OP forty and three point shooting. They made big progress in cash. Winston for his career has been a good one now he is taking it a step back there and I think him and the micro is Michigan state in the macro. But you're right. The the shooting issues have really presented themselves. I don't know win. LANKFORD IS GONNA get back. I hope it's January. There's not even a promise of that. But if he is able to not just for defense offense but they need another shooter there and we'll see I mean we're leading the podcast with Michigan State. Now if all goes well we're not going to be talking about him until we flip the calendar and we celebrate New Year's Eve and go into two thousand twenty because it's Rutgers Oakland Northwestern Eastern Michigan Western Michigan then homing US Illinois January Second Michigan State should be ten in three the next time. We're talking about him because if it's not that and we're talking about him it's because they took another bad loss and that's really the case then we're gonNA have some serious stuff to analyze on the shooting woes. It was last night there were four of sixteen. My calculator says that's twenty five percent from three on the season there now. Thirty two point nine percent from three which ranks one hundred sixty at the Kim Palm. So the point I keep hammering home. No obvious first. Round picks and can't shoot from the perimeter now just contrast that with our last two national national champions Virginia last season throws on the court shot thirty nine point five percent from three point range. That was eight in the country. Villanova two seasons ago pros throws all over the court shop. Forty point one percent from three point range. That was eleventh in the country are passed to national champions and I think this is a coincidence..

But sending black face the black voices. The black imprint the characters that I like, Robert or professor Emory Clayton. In fact, some people think Bobby Dooley's black. That's a riot. What do you say that because that would modify her you're saying bobby's racist, I don't think she's a racist? She's elitist. Let's not go there. Okay. All will come on. Phil, gay speaking truth. Mr. Henry, gotta speak a truth. We have okay bobby's a full blown racist. How about that? Well, that's not fair either. No Donald saying that Bobby B and black. She probably would prefer. But I was curious as to what my black listeners thought and most of the comments from them. In fact, all of the comments were no black face is a stereotype you don't do stereotype, you do actual black characters. And you feel vindicated that that was a good, right? Robert. Do you feel like the impression I do of you that I think is accurate? What are we talking about? Here man is starting to blow my mind, this is blowing my stuff away. Yes. Change the subject is. "Stores, right? It's like Henry gotta choose lane and stick with. It's a little too obvious. Continuing the story you're going to notice a trend pretty quickly. Oh boy. In terms of who has issues with Christmas all this foil. It right away. It's anti-semites. The nineteen fifties to communist or quote, unquote, the communists, nineteen Fifty-nine pamphlet from the John Berks society, titled there, go is Christmas with a question Mark in an exclamation point. At the end while I was so shocked and alarmed John virtuous, not actually just one person, it's a society. So like his name is John Berks society. Mr. Interros bang, very well for sure. And they say one of the techniques now being applied by the reds to weaken the pillar of religion in our country is the drive to take Christ out of Christmas. And this is from time magazine, the John Berks society also sailed the United Nations as fanatics who are trying to quote poison the nineteen Fifty-nine Christmas season with their high pressure propaganda. Here's another quote on the UN. From that same pamphlet you in fanatics what they now want to put over on the American people is simply this department stores throughout the country are to utilize the UN symbols and emblems as Christmas decorations. The globe with the like plants around the subjects here is that unit. The UN replicates represents Goebel ISM, which represents Jewish people. Even interesting because I'm like, I don't know whenever I hear about like McCarthyism. I don't I feel like I don't remember hearing a ton about the UN's specifically as like a so so the John Birch society, even by like, its contemporaries was fringe on oak, Jill actually exist. Probably won't surprise you that it is notorious for conspiracy theories and anti-semitism even today. Wow. It hasn't been doing super well since the seventies. I ain't done average. But I guess it's had an uptick since President Trump. I liked it a train group or Jason. So that brings us to the modern era. We're just trucking along. Trivia what year was Christmas challenged as a federal holiday in the US courts. How high did it go? It went to a district court. Okay. I'm gonna say nineteen seventy four oh, I was going to get the seventy two I'll say seventy eight. You know, when is the best time to party. Like, it's nineteen ninety nine. Wow. Really nineteen ninety nine and it was challenges a federal holiday. So who who is behind this the Jews? So Kanye Lynn versus United States. The charge is Christmas days federal status, violates the establishment clause of the constitution. The establishment clause is a clause of the first man pursed amendment, but prima speech. It's legal stuff. It gets dirty state that. Yeah, debate you need to know is congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or hitting the free exercise thereof. Yeah. I mean that makes sense. I gotta be honest. They make a point. So from a Wicky on on this case Judge Susan a lot of the US district court for the southern district of Ohio ruled that the Christmas holiday has become largely secularized. And because of that like giving federal employees a paid vacation down Christmas the government the government is doing no more than recognizing the cultural significance of the holiday. Okay. Yeah. That makes sense. If you circle back to the things that we were. Saying into beginning is it was basically secularized from the drop. Right. Yeah. Was initially celebration. The winter solstice. At that point like good luck, like ripping a holiday away from people after they had it for three hundred years. Here's the thing. You not ready for. Oh, no. Judge judged lot gave that decision. As Dr Seuss Fulham. Part of the decision is a doctor sees so good which I will now read to you. Thank you, very happy. The court will address plaintiffs seasonal confusion erroneously believing Christmas merely a religious institution. Whatever the reason constitutional or other Christmas is not an active big brother Christmas is about joy and giving and sharing is about the child within us. It is most about caring. One is never jailed for not having a tree for not going to church for not spreading guilty. The court will uphold fittingly contradictory clauses. Eight twenty six decreeing the establishment end quote Sana, both worthwhile clauses. Boy. All better for Santa the Easter bunny to and maybe the great pumpkin to name just a few an extra day off is hardly high treason. It may be spent as you wish regardless of reason, the court having read the lessons of Lynch refuses to play the role of the Grinch there is this country and all our hearts to predicament convictions and a day off to that is the excellent whites isn't exceptional decision in. I will not go into it. Because we could do a whole podcast on it. But there is a good deal of writing about how this is actually legally sound on top of me. Vein just a good poem. Well, but also, I'm sure there's the rest of the decision is like a normal. Sure. Sure. Sure. But I mean this also actually captures the decision. It's wild gets off to a rocky start a little bit of kind of split. Rhyme up top here. The meters not great either really ends on a strong note. Though, it does it does. It does. We have to ask. Okay. Yeah. So when this poem was being, right? Was this like shocking to people or they were like, okay? This is normal and five you don't. They don't usually read the decisions in court. Okay. Stuff is just printed. Right. I I don't know, man. I think also like just this sort of thing, you know, in the internet days, this would be image. But I think even early I'm sure it got a lot of press. I happen. But yeah, usually these sorts of decisions are not it's not like they come back later and give the decision it open. Open their poem in front of the jury. When I also love about it is the argument is basically like, hey, no pressure. Like is the palm is still kind of anti war on Christmas Eve like it's just a day off do whatever you want. Right. You know, if it brings you joy great. If it doesn't like watch Netflix all day, not really problem. It's a free day off. I'm not going to take that away from me. It's pretty chill and like it. "And this is not just about the scoring. This is about getting the victory. So I'm staying right here then with the three dollars, I have to give it to the Jaguars because I believe in that defense, I listen when you have a team that suffered that kind of pain in the AFC championship game. I feel like they're going to carry that through the seasons, boom, boom, boom. And then Lastly, I believe you're gonna give you one. Boom. I'm gonna give you another one for the Vikings, boom. Because right now they're rendered as an anomaly, there's going to get better. Every single was gonna come back. I still feel like that philosophy when you have a painful loss that's going to carry you through it in the postseason to get over the hump. And then lastly, the falcons give you another dollar there. This is a team that has figured out. Scoring and the red zone they can still get a done. I still like the coaching that they have on the defensive side, even though they're missing some pieces to get it done, have that alpha personality to get acts, you win. The game is on the line. My phone to shares of the Viking. Jay. Okay. Wait, wait, wait, hold on. Are you gotta head to write down. The second quarter. Buy out who's the best investor. The whole deal with eight teams left. We have about sixty seconds go, okay, I'll start with a head coach, Mike variable for the boys, Tennessee titans. They go and play the Buffalo Bills this week. Derrick Henry gotta get him going, get that run game established, and then I taste of map attrition, the head coach, the lions against the Green Bay Packers. Let's see if they can get that win. All right. We got the Denver Broncos had a crushing loss against the chiefs there now to into one hundred most seen in the locker room afterwards, but they feel like they can rebound pacman was the one to calm that locker room doubt with the jets. They're one in three. They got this game against the Denver Broncos people are talking about Ted Todd Bowles, and if you should be on the coaching hot seat, but I feel like they have opportunity to really turn this around as well going, Tampa Bay bucks. They're going to go in and get a big win against BYU is get ready, get Jameis. Winston ready number two on that. Got the colts of gone with Andrew luck heading the Foxborough looking for the big upset in the division or conference rival. I'll step in with the Zona cardinals and Josh Rosen making making. Drives as good young quarterback in the league made a few good throws, and I'm going with San Francisco against those cardinals CJ Beathard George Kibble, and I'm just doing Preecha Carl..
