"Ever. There's big arts cape Cunningham's 227 pounds this year. And I just think it's a different league. I am of the opinion, this is the team I'm targeting as the you mentioned the, oh my God, that team's tanking now what happened? I think this is the candidate for me. They were the team last year too. Where you went, oh my God, who are they playing? Right. Like who's old dominion center? Yeah. So again, that's their bigs are limited. I actually think Lillard could come in and crush again. I mean, he's 32. He's not 36. Right. He had the entire year off for the most part. And the reason he didn't hit any shots is because the stomach injury was like super significant. And Simon's had some great statistical stuff where he's like one of the best guys in catch and shoot threes. So, you know, Lillard has kind of a nice option in that with simons can also kind of get his own thing going. So it can be a little bit like, look, he already did it with CG all those years. Like when it was working and it was good, I kind of like it. So their destiny is there'll be 15 point underdogs in Golden State and Simon's and Lillard score 80 and they be Golden State and people, oh my God, and then they lose their next date. Yeah, because I don't know where the frontline depth just isn't there. Eubanks was brought in. The thing that you're talking about too, they are a candidate, like you could see dame move. I think that makes sense. That was my last question on this. Why are we so sure dame can't get traded because he loved it there and he signed an extension still anybody can get traded? Absolutely. What if it's like, oh my God, we're way worse than I thought. This coach thing didn't work out. Maybe. We're in a conference that is loaded like what is my endgame here? Eh, trade me. Okay. Yeah. That team wants to be great. Let's do it. I don't know. I don't know what to expect. Give themselves a chance at one of the top two picks. This year you have to decide in December. December 15th, they're like, all right, we're in on one medama. We have to get home for. Let's see. I always want to remind people of this little thing, which has been accurate though for multiple years. And that he likes being the Marquis attraction for this team. And it's all on his terms. And he knows that. That's why he got the extension, and that has been the default whenever I checked on him. Hey, how's it going? How's it going? What's up? What do you think? He's been the opposite of a lot of the other stars that go fuck it. I'm going to team up with somebody. He's had some quotes too. Put out there. So there was one time with Haines where I thought, oh, this is where it's going to start. And again, it was just him being upset and then deciding that he still wanted to stay there. So I would look at not saying it's impossible, surely they could suck again this year, he's like, I fuck it, I'm only 32, like it's time to move on. He just has had a different personality when it comes to that. That's totally fair. He killed that poor writer who was it last year that reported that he was asking to be traded or whatever. He killed somebody. I don't remember. Oh, Henry Abbott. Oh, that's what he assassinated poor Henry. He went on Twitter. Yeah, dang it. The report was wrong. Let's zip through this quick. Utah over under 24 and a half Oklahoma City over under 23 and a half. We're at the hour and a half marker of this podcast. I'm going under for both, I think they're both firmly entrenched

"I'm just like stupefied by the story. Well, this is cathartic for me because, you know, people have gotten upset at me on Twitter, especially because I keep trying politely to correct people on the historical record. And I'm not debating this. There's a great example. Again, you don't need access to all the sensitive information I did when I wrote game of the game. But all the work is on the Internet. You did the work. Had a piece, Henry Abbott did in 2009. There's another piece. ESPN the magazine 2019 that lays all this out. You can see all the data it exists. Yeah. And that's the thing. I just don't get my argument all along because I've spoken to so many people about this over the years. Don't forget, I speak publicly, so I deal with audiences all the time. What happens routinely is I can debunk this, this, this. And with facts, there's not even debating it, you know? And they'll say, okay, fine, I actually wanted to create a website. Yeah, but dot com. Because they go, oh yeah, yeah, but they're so desirous to believe the conspiracies that are existing in their heads that they'll ignore the demonstrable falsehood and go, okay, fine, those are BS, but man, that one I knew that was always true, and that's what he says. It's confirmation bias on steroids. Well, I remember when his book came out in O 9 and it was going to dive into some of first of all, he played the O2 finals card or western finalist card, which was smart. He played the O 5 Mavs spur series, which was smart or Mavs rockets. But it was about like, hey, some of these guys have biases against certain players, which is something I had been writing about on page two for a while. I always had a runny joke about dick bavetta. He was the guy they needed in. He was like a wrestling. I would joke about this, but I like ten, 20% believed it. So I was like, oh, this book's going to come out. He's going to take us under the hood of how this stuff works. Everything else was so distorted. Manufactured whatever that I just couldn't take any of that stuff seriously. I have to read it because he was in such a fantasy land about what he actually did. And it seems like he still is, 13 years later. Well, why wouldn't he be? It works. I mean, people don't know about me. They really don't know about game in the game. They know about the anarchy story. And you know, the thing with all that, look, like you said, Henry did it, bob will garris that there have been a bunch of people who've been doing this over the years. So I don't know. It's a shame. It's very frustrating. I always say, I'm tilting at windmills. The Scott foster calls. Yeah. Well, kind of the elephant in the room in this because you did some of the work in your book that the gambler's actually bet on a couple Scott foster games and lost, so they kicked kick

"What up? It's the crossover pod Friday edition. I'm Howard Beck, senior writer for Sports Illustrated. We've got a bit of a lull in the free agent market in the off season period. Kevin Durant still a Brooklyn net that might have something to do with said lull and the lack of activity in recent days seems like the market's kind of locked up until everybody figures out where Durant is going, but there is still plenty plenty of off season fun to analyze and for that I wanted to bring back my old friend, the coach, David Thorpe. He is, of course, a partner in analyst over at true hoop where he works with Henry Abbott, to do great work, go subscribe to them if you're not already over at substack, coach Thorpe also a longtime trainer of NBA players and NBA prospects. He runs the pro training center down in Clearwater, Florida. No one I respect more in all matters basketball. So we dove into some of the bigger moves of this summer so far. How will Rudy Gobert fit with Karl Anthony towns in Minnesota? What's the wolves ceiling now? Can the jazz rebuild around Donovan Mitchell or is it time to move on, hit the reset button and send him off somewhere? Is that somewhere New York where Knicks fans have been clamoring for him? Would Mitchell make sense next to Jalen Brunson? And speaking of newly acquired point guards and to re spark a debate that manics and I had on the crossover earlier this week should Malcolm Brogdon be handed the starting point guard duties in Boston coach Thorpe has an opinion on that and everything else that I just mentioned always very insightful, a lot of great analysis to

"Is, they're going to get make a ton of money off the TV contracts. And then beyond that, you're going to end up with, if you get two more teams then, that's money flowing in, two more markets, two more local television contracts. I mean, in the NBA of all the sports, has embraced the idea of social media and streaming of the best of all. Now, lead pass product needs some work. But I think it's a bit better. So easily. Yeah, not even close. I've never had a single issue with the MLB. Which is amazing. But I think because they've got a 160 some odd games a year. Yeah, that's a lot of baseball. To be able to watch on that product and so that's one thing that MLB is doing very well. My guess is the NBA will make some whoever it is pays into this, hey, help us improve lead pass. Whoever it is, you know, hey, Amazon, if you want to air a game a week, like we need some help with, oh, and you happen to be great at that perfect. You know, help fix lead pass. But expansion's comment, the league is healthy. Everything is in really good shape. For the league, it's just a matter of time. Henry Abbott of true who wrote the most recent long expansion piece did a lot of really good reporting and research into a talking of folks in Seattle folks in Las Vegas, really none of them are openly saying, yeah, we've been told we have a team, but these people aren't stupid. They're not building arenas and making all these plans for no reason. They clearly feel pretty good about this. Again, not in the next, I believe, within two to three years, we will be told we're getting expansion in somewhere within the three to 5 year window we will have two new expansion teams..

"Out of play when it comes to voting, the name recognition or whatever, then yeah, bridges bring out a better chance of it, but this year or at least 50 50. And guess what? 50 50 is 50 50. And mark out the coin Flint. Exactly. Probably based on what you talked about, the pedigree. The pedigree, the storylines, the subjects did have the best defense. The second half of the year, and so yeah, that's the storm right there. So I don't understand how anyone can be out. It's like, it's pretty simple how this broke down. And yeah, oh yeah, hold on, bam Adam bio should have been doing something like, well, BMI, biomass, like 28 games. Yeah, seriously. So you look at it from that standpoint. Again, I'm not a few. I don't like, I don't get worked up about this stuff at all. Awards. We get more works about the worked up about the people getting worked up about it. Yeah, exactly. This is outrageous. No, it's not. There's going to be probably different award this year that's going to be far more, this is just like, yeah, like smart took advantage of the perfect storm and that's fine. Anyone who anyone who wouldn't want to would have said the same exact thing about. Yeah, I think I remember back in the day when Derek rose won MVP over LeBron. And there was a lot of, you know, like quibbling in a lot of hullabaloo around the NBA, the true network, those email chains. And I'll admit, I voted, you know, I didn't have a vote, but like in our informal stuff, I voted for Derrick Rose, mostly because I was just completely odd in that season. He had. But I had a conversation with Henry Abbott, and he sort of easily convinced me that LeBron should have won. And it's like, that to me was a lot easier to get upset by, right? Then this to all the points you said. It's sort of a down year for defensive player of the year, you know, Kawhi is not in it. You know, like, all these, you know, a lot of draymond mature too. Exactly. And so like, so I don't know. I don't know why they just can't be happy. I think it's smart as one of those polarizing players where if he was on your team, you'd love them. And if he's not on your team, you don't. You respect him, but maybe you don't love him. So maybe they're just thinking, oh, I can't believe I have to have this sort of role player as the defensive player of the year. But the bottom line is he's super well respected around the league among his peers. And to me, that obviously means way more than any of the analysts..

"So I was just like a working and stuff. And then my Twitter account started to pop off. And so it literally was like Twitter led you to great land. It was. Absolutely the case. I had never really I had never, you know, sometimes you need like an outside force to tell you you're good. It's something for you to realize that you're good at something. I didn't really understand I thought I was whatever essentially I thought of myself as like a wise ass who just kind of like yelled snarky things at people. I didn't think about it as writing per se. But as my Twitter account started to take off, I started to think, oh, maybe I am pretty good at it. I got some opportunities to freelance for deadspin and for a website called the classical, which is now defunct but which was edited by Nathaniel free darko fame. And why am I David David Roth a great David Roth now of deadspin? And that gave me a little confidence that I could write and I had some sniffs from ESPN digital at the time the true hoop movement. Henry Abbott's conglomeration of various blogs into a confederation of ESPN blogs was underway. And so there was like an understanding that the Internet was a place that you could find voicey talent. And so I had gotten, you know, gotten a couple of writing sample assignments through ESPN digital people. So I understood that there was a lane there, and I just kind of dove in and pursue it. But before that, before Twitter and the Internet, there was no I was never like, oh, I'm good at writing. I should do that. I didn't understand that was not on my radar at all. I've been doing this for like 30 years or so. I'm still not sure if I'm good at writing. I don't think I'm good at it. To be a writer is the constantly sit around going, what am I doing? Why is anybody going to even going to read this? I like to sometimes I go back and I'll read something like for grantland or something else like a bloggie piece, and I'm just like, how did I do that? What is this? I don't remember doing this. This is good, but where did this come from? I don't know, how do I do this again? Yeah. Could I even do it again if I wanted to? It's the whole do it again thing, right? 'cause you do it and you have this moment and occasionally you'll even have like that Michael J. Fox at the end of The Breakfast Club punching himself on the device I feel like, yeah, I got it. I nailed it. I nailed the essay. And then the next time it's pure panic, like somebody needs me to write something again. So you were doing this for when you were working for the ringer or grantland Bill Simmons concept for those places was, okay, sports and pop culture. And I think even initially, when I remember when he first launched that, and I was like, I'm not sure I understand these things all being under one roof until all of a sudden it didn't make sense to me until it did..

"And everyone would be like, ah man, she probably they were in a fight. They were probably both drunk. But then you see it. And it's just you can't go back. So is there video of Robert cyber somewhere or audio of Robert SARS somewhere that can corroborate all this? 'cause I don't doubt Baxter Holmes for a second. I just don't. That'll be interesting to see if its surfaces. I mean, there was, I don't know if you remember this, but Henry Abbott who I worked with ESPN had a true hoop story regarding a service that Robert sarver attended where he said some incredibly off color things about his friend who had passed away, and they were pretty bad. And so I wonder if that will resurrect because that there was audio for that. Well, I was thinking the hawks owner who got bounced out because he had allegedly made these inappropriate comments on I think it was a draft conference call, but then there was a question of whether they edited the actual audio to make them look worse. And it was the minority owner is basically this is a big cat fight with all the owners. They have selling the team. Right. I wonder what the Phoenix thing. I always one of the questions for me is always what has to happen for something to push a story like this over the top because as you said, there's lots of rumors, lots of conversation. You have situations like Earl Watson who I think a lot of people like, he had a bad experience. A lot of people had bad experiences with the sons and the guy's a blowhard. We all have a sovereign story. I told mine on my podcast last week. But still, I wonder somebody's winning from this. And whether it's like a minority owner or somebody who thinks they have a chance to buy the team if he has to sell what that part comes in because I do think this is a really valuable team. And if you saw that he got a lot of money for it, which is complicated the same way as complicated with Sterling. But at the same time, this would be a really big deal of the sun's soul because I think that's one of like the 8 or 9 best markets we have. I don't see that happening unless something new emerges because so we need like an actual. I agree. We don't have the smoking gun per se. Now Adam silver can't just gloss this over. He can't say, well, I've investigated, and there's nothing here. He can say, yes, Robert acted inappropriately at times. Said inappropriate not acted. Said inappropriate things at times, which sovereign admits in the article. There are a couple of situations. We've been involved in the N word, which is so sensitive. And so, I mean, action will be taken a fine suspension. I don't really know what. When this stuff happens, the ones I always feel bad for other players. Do you realize Chris Paul again is in the middle of this? Oh my God. I mean, he was in the middle of it with Sterling, and now he's in the middle of it again with sarver and the dudes like had this amazing career resurgence and he's the leader of this franchise who's playing really well and he's this wise leader and all this other stuff. And now this, it's like I feel bad for the suns fans too. It's like a secretly tortured fan base and they finally had light at the end of the tunnel they made the finals. They have a really good nucleus, then they lowball a so now who knows how that plays out? And then you have the cyber scandal and now it's like, wow, for the sense. The sense of kind of sneaky had multiple scandals over the years. They were heavily involved with the drug scandals. That was a big really bad. No question. Yeah, so I think something else has to happen with that. And again, that's not to diminish the reporting Baxter did at all. Because like I said, I think he did a really great job getting people on the record talking about some pretty serious allegations that should be taken very seriously and I think it's up to the media to hold Adam silver to that. Hold them to the standard of, hey, this is one of your NBA orders. I've said this a million times, not a million. That's a lot. I've started a bunch of times. I speak in hyperbole, have you ever noticed that myself? But anyway, if I had more time, right? If I could go back to my younger self and when I was doing all these stories, I would have spent a lot of time investigating every single NBA owner. Because every single MBA owner has something along the way that's worth looking into. And some really sharp young reporter out there should do it. I'm too old. I'm kind of semi retired. Someone else is going to have to do it. Sounds like a movie where you're in your new house in New England. I'm planting trees. You'll never climb, Bill. You think you're as hard, but then you get sucked back into one last big story. Yeah. Meryl Streep plays Jackie McMullen. Oh, or how about that really dark movie with Jack Nicholson? What was it called? I asked him about it. This little girl was wear red dress in this serial killer was killing little girls in the red dress. He was a retired cop. Oh, I know that, boop, yeah. I think he directed that. What's the name? I know I'm gonna be talking about it. The crossing guard or something like that. I can't remember. But I asked him about it. Before a Laker game one night, because you know, I got to meet him and I was saying hello to him and he's like, that's the movie you're gonna bring up? I was like, I love the shine, I go, I said, I had a bad ankle and spray my ankle really badly in high school. I was home from school and I watched that and I was like, mesmerized and it was the darkest movie and he said, oh, that was the worst. The guy that wrote the book, we had to get to keep the ending. He wouldn't let us change the ending and he said that that movie did really badly and I can't believe you. I got him all this time. He's like, I can't believe you brought up that movie. What the heck? Why can't I remember the name of it? Oh, I love Kyle's gonna get it. I get it for me, man. It was before we go. Yeah. I got to talk about the rule changes, because we didn't talk about that. How much I've, I'm really enjoying this season. I'm not the only person saying this. I love the physicality. I love that they got rid of a lot of the garbage fouls. I have no sympathy whatsoever for these people. Like trade harder. Sorry. Sorry. Sorry. Get that on my head. Okay, sorry. No sympathy for some of these guys who were basically gimmicky in the system. And now it's not working the same way for them anymore. And we see this in every sport. Like in football, the Belichick patriots. Right, right? Super physical with the colts receivers. They switched the world. You gotta audible. You gotta figure out, and to me, it's done a couple of things. I love how much more physical it is. It really reminds me of other areas. It also like somebody like Durant who I've just continually amazed with just watching that dude, put up 38.

You know he didn't explode on them. He didn't do any of that nonsense. He very calmly said. Could you let me finish. could you let me finish. could you let me say now. But this nonsense about coach losses core. That was awkward exchange. Anything like that. I'm like what are you talking about. What what what were we going here. Coach didn't threaten them then. You know what You know i'm reporting that Lillard plant request trade in the days to come and lower was like low. Who told you that trouble surely wasn't me. He denied reports that he was going to be traded. He said i woke up to those reports. A lotta people reaching out to me but it's not true. I'll start off the rip and say it's not true. A lot of things are being said as income for me. I haven't made any firm decisions on what my future will beat now. You want to see that. He's lying and he's playing games or whatever. Okay i'm just gonna take. I'm gonna take what he says. There's a as a truth Lillard said he expects to be in a blazers jersey when the twenty twenty one twenty two season begins all right now could times change. Do I take fresh peel it. I put the pieces of the orange into a sauce that has some cream in it and has a little bit of that. And I just want a little bit thicker. Put in a few pieces of orange and then I squeezed. Get the juice in there. Let it cook up. Let the orange steep into the substance, the sauce and then I drizzle it over the top of the Then I make broccoli in the oven when it's just about done. I Sprinkle but let that bacon and melt. Yeah, No, I don't want to in the blank sauce. Sprinkle it on there. I wanted to talk to you about Yanis onto the compote. Because tonight, the Milwaukee Bucks host the Brooklyn Nets. And tonight may be the most important game of Janice's young career because they need to show up tonight and they need to make a stand against this Nets team has blown them out in back to back games to open this second round series. In true hoops. Henry Abbott. We've had him on the show before they have a newsletter that they send out every day, and they had a very long post in their email today from True Hoop about how Part of what has kind of taken place in the first two games of the series is that we know Brooklyn's defense is not good coming into the playoffs. But yet Milwaukee's inability to move offensively into now rely on the ice so game which was not their thing, and the regular season has completely played into the Nets, allowing them to play. They're kind of okay, defense and not really take advantage of a team that is bad defensively. And they're relying on one on one possessions, and I so and honest trying to figure things out. Tonight's a big night for the box. Well, not only that, but as you've been saying throughout the NBA playoffs, like what happens to them, they go down. You know, three tonight they lose eventually and Janice. Maybe he doesn't want out. But there's a complete rebuild of that situation. Other players moving to other teams, those players moving to other teams. You know their coach is probably going to be fired. What do the bucks do? Because I mean, look, they might win tonight. They're not winning this series. I don't think they're winning is not the way they've played in these. I don't think they're running a series. I don't think anybody's being the Nets right now. We've talked about that. But I feel like this is pivotal. Like you mentioned for the rest of the league is yeah. Honest. Just fed up with the box, or does he give them another chance and say Hey, Let's pick out a coach. Let's try to retool this roster. Or does he just say You know what I gave you guys a chance, and I'm fed up. I'm out well, like I I think also what the NBA community could point to is this lie of a big three. Your holiday is part of the Big three. Chris Middleton is a part of a big three is not a big part of the big One time all Star. Yeah, like, what are we doing here with the national media and an NBA people saying Well, they've got a big three. Do they really have a big 31 of the Big one? No, but like you can say you don't like did people really consider the Spurs back of the day with Tony Parker? Ginobili and Duncan like was that big three? You could argue Ginobili on a different team really isn't worth as much as it was to the Spurs. So like What has to happen is drew holiday in Middleton have to show up and they have to play like they're worthy of being paired with Yannis four, said. Big three. Otherwise like this whole idea that you just slap together some some all stars, and you're going to have a team that can win championship. It's totally flawed. Because the Big Three for the Nets do not equal the same Big three that the bucks have. That's the problem is that they can have the Big two in their hardened can be out and they still they won by how much Last time doesn't matter like it doesn't matter. Irene Durant are so good at the end of every show here on blocking Abdullah in the six o'clock hour would like to bring to you the song of the Night. I A turn up.
