"Changes and it was a new experience than ever experienced before and you learn from it but INDIANA. I play this game to to win games and you WANNA win as much as possible. That's why I'm super excited. A bug going into campaign feel be made some really strong editions here I don't know exactly where we will stand or a good rule be but I feel like we're moving in the right direction. That allowance exciting troupe is going to be great on the Blue Line. Panara seems like they're really big splashy signing. That's the guy everyone wanted and you guys landed him. What was your reaction when you find that out of there was a good feeling sure the fact that he picked us he wants to come here wants to be part of the Rangers of think you'll be a great fit auto tune in to escape with him now for a week or so and super skilled guy very good hockey player? really got to know him yet. Just seems like a great guy. I think that's going to be important when you're such a big piece team for him to help. All the young guys is to have a few Russian players on the team. I think he's completely part off the ice as well one of the big storylines. It feels like right now in the. NHL is goalie only workload management covering Boston in the playoffs they took arouse plate less gifted usually had it. He was saying that's why he felt refreshed and the playoffs is one of the reasons and can you believe it's sixty or more games for eight seasons which is kind of crazy. Is that something you've become but also early in my career over the last few years here's you've seen the change more and more teams go towards playing a little less restarting goalie and I think it makes sense. It's more intense now. It's more shots more scoring chances. takes a toll on his star faster and and I think there's a lot of games now whereas gold leaf if you play if you play good probably not GonNa win you need to play great to win games and for you to be that level almost every night. That's obviously the biggest challenge thing so and also you have more options out. There's more your goal. Is that can get the job done. I used to be a clearcut number one. This guy would play close to seventy games but you definitely see a change. you know make sense now when you look at how intense the game as and also how many goals thorough you guys got a young one in court pork gift Georgiev. How does he push you and and it seems like it's the first time where there could be a succession plan for you at least under your wing I think every year he is definitely feel? There's guys around you that obviously they don't WanNA play. WanNa wanted more games than I still no matter who's next to me my focuses on my game. How can I improve and be the best I can be and then it's up to coach to decide when and how many games play but every year it doesn't matter who you're teaming up with you become a team within the team the goalies and soon the other goal in the goalie coach Shen in Georgia work really well together and push each other and we have benny the goalie coach two pushes us so feel good about that? I know you WANNA create a strong team within within the group and try to have fun. Make sure we do well couple quick questions. They're fun understand what you cheat meal cheat snack while I'm a big cheeseburger. You got a lot of cheeseburgers. I don't see that as a chief I rely on it the the irony data from it's too good to eat so I honestly don't see it as cheapie. Maybe some people but I don't mm-hmm what's impulse. Buy You've purchased in the last year a what impulse purchase Oh it can come up with anything really and maybe Jack or something went on to London this summer then plan on doing but it just happened awesome. Would you buy a jacket. Okay nothing special there for few days in worker on and just caught your eye. Yes caught my what was the last time you Google yourself a good question. It's been awhile. Did he do earlier on new career I find that it's more when when when you done like work with charity stop for for different events reaching from from the foundation or business manager about something you might need to find out some details about stuff but now I I can never remember any recent stuff was one change you could make the NHL to make it better too broad question yeah to be honest. I think the game is really good. Where are you now? It's a a lot of skill. It's high-speed players Ridley we don't we don't need to change a belong to there's always going to be changed but was worsens. MLS Player in the League. That's not on the Rangers. Are you most in awe of pity yeah I mean I think make Dave is such a great player on spun to watch the skill skill and is it processes e after league. He's the great I really appreciate it. I thanks to Henrik Lundqvist The New York Rangers and you know what Greg I was surprised to find it's cheap meals hamburgers which brings us to our favorite segment of the week Phil Kessel now dogs no he does not love to eat hotdogs. Commit Media Brian Castle of hot dogs not conquest loves cheeseburgers cheeseburgers yet get mixed. Don't get mixed up yet more evidence. December castle may not actually even eat hot dogs which is furthering okay. I'd take that for a second. I found it funny so I I talked to talk it for this. Phil Kessel story and it was like it was just kind of a general question of do you think it's unfair. The way the media picks on Phil and he just goes off on this tangent unprovoked you know he doesn't even like hotdogs doesn't even in the same away. The Mandate Castle had to defend them but his point was that Phil laughs about it behind the scenes. He does nothing to try to clear his name which is kind of perpetuates it and here we are. We have a whole all segment about it. In one hundred percent last like this little castle left on the Athletic Lick thicke Richard Daij media reporter put together a roundtable of their several thousand hockey writers and and they were all asked how what would you do to improve the game. What would you do to make hockey more palatable GONNA here with my friend? Josh Yoi of the the penguins is beat who said this hire more Canadians seriously more to the point steal some people from CBC and elsewhere and bring himself himself. "Of James Neal they wouldn't even have flurries and then you mentioned James Van John Thank you so that's a that's a bad hockey team and and once again Wendy Wendy we get seal team six together to rescue connor? Send them in smashing grab job take about put him on Detroit. Oh that's solve a lot of problems him in Larkin as the one two punch at center. It's getting to be that time the contract O'Connor I would say ducks ex oilers kings for me dio K now now. Let's go to the top for a second. Do Both Agree Vegas will make the playoffs I got Vegas is my final okay then that would indicate. I knew I looked at you have because you visited them but their top six is a great the top six yeah they're one of those teams where their first two lines are incredible and then you start to look down the line up and you're like oh I remember this guy. Oh this guy does pretty well for himself. Oh this guys on the team. You realize they have unparalleled depth that forward. It's their D. That worries me a little bit because they don't have that foundational additional elite defencemen to kind of tie it all together. The Guy Plays Twenty five minutes a night and can be your judy or yeah. That's the problem. The first year was sort of an anomaly probably the to actually push for a cup now. I wish they had it but I think they can still push for one without it. I mean teams have won without one. The Penguins won without one that one year when you know what's going there or do you know what's going in its favor. They have a week Blue Line and there's defensive deficiencies but they have two forwards stories that are incredibly defensive ETA and that's Mark Stone and William Carlson like both of those guys can help out and mass some of the issues they also score crept on a goal which kind of helps output so I had them into. I think that they're going to win the division. I had the sharks in. I think they're still a playoff team. Even I really feel like they're going to miss a pretty major way especially in the postseason. I think they've got enough guys that can fill in during the regular season where they can you know put a band aid over over that yeah the flames in flames number three for me. I've got I've got the flames seconds Vegas flames sharks. Even though I despise Calgary's goaltending I think they're in so let's talk about the coyotes and the canucks. Who are your wildcard hard teams in the West Getting Weird I have Saint Louis? Actually it's my wildcard. Sorry we kind of jumble that I think they get in. I just think the central L. is just GonNa Kinda. CANNIBALIZE itself and they're GONNA be a playoff team just on across that I got the oats I believe in the oats I just you know at the end of last year. wrote the story all the bad terrible no good sake luck they had injuries and how they're almost making the playoffs anyway and how they all believed in talk it and how if goaltending had just you know stayed a little bit healthy they could possibly figured it out and then they go and get a superstar Phil Kessel and I know he's not playing in Pittsburgh system system but he's still a damn good guy and they have a great penalty. Kill already vocals going to improve their power. Play it just kind of feel like this is the year they sneak in and you know I'm not saying they're going to make a run. I'm the playoffs they just think they're gonNA get a wildcard spot. the avalanche are one of my wildcard teams and my other wildcard team also comes from the Pacific Division Division it also is a team that lingers outside of the top three and above three. It's the Vancouver canucks crazy crazy crazy guy I think that what's The while Italy have to be bold. You have to go against the grain and when I look at this team I look at a team in with one of the best youthful cores in the league if Brock Besser Alas Patterson and Bill Iraq stay healthy which knows asking a lot quint Hughes added to the mix some good smart offencive additions in Jt Miller and Michael Furlan goaltending that I think was already pretty damn good last season. I'm saying this Vancouver. CANUCKS can stay healthy the team that lost more one goal games last season than anybody leak. We'll start to win a few of those their vision with points to be had from the teams below them and around them ahead of schedule Emily the Vancouver canucks playoff bound and then what will fans do with the conundrum that is a playoff team built by Jim Brandon alien also Travis Green one of my favorite coaches in this league think they make if they make the playoffs. I think he probably went to Jack Adams. Oh Yeah for sure that's not even a question like Patterson is obviously. MVP because that means that he's had one hundred point mark should win. The VEZINA. Queen Hughes wins the caller in the Norris. I'm glad you're finally singing. My my Song Vancouver makes the playoffs in the Western Conference book it remember this podcast play this clip back at the end of the season when you shower me with with the flowers and sweets for being the prognosticator amongst prognosticators at ESPN your playoff-bound Vancouver canucks plan well the parade but the take a few days off to go to playoff games in the first round before your annihilated thank you for fence and I laid it sounds a lot like alien. It does speaking of Aliens. Here's something other worldly about this next guest hair this this next guest hair end Alpha choices and style and composure and everything they say about him. It's true it's Glenn quests at a chance to sit down with him at the player media tour and Chicago Cocco and you know what there's not much more to say here is big hard hitting questions from the first one. I heard this rumor. One of my Swedish friends told me that in Sweden you're known on just as much as the shampoo guy as hockey guys what happens when you work in shoulders for eight years so those commercials must run all the time they do they they do but it's now it's been a fun relationship with with PNG But let me be part of the creative side. Are you just having fun with it so happens people. Stop Shampoo one of the things I've been asking players how nonense they can be in public so on the scale of one to ten one being. You could walk down the street. No one recognizes you ten being your swarmed when you're back Sweden. What is it and hard all depends on where you are in the city? Sorry what time it is There's definitely moments words a little hectic They're also days when it's very relaxing so it's hard. I'm just GONNA say five kaput about New York City not seeing but it's less than Sweden for shore something to say about that sounds Nice. I Love New York. Yes it's you blend in pretty pretty good and you live relaxing lives. There's definitely moments and days where it's more intense and more focus there's also moments where you feel like you can live up pretty average seasons and a normal life that mixes is great so I've been trying to cover women's hockey better and I'm a little bit familiar with what's going on with the Swedish women's hockey team and I understand you voice your support for them and their boycott so just for anyone who's kind kinda unaware of what's going on with someone who's been in the Swedish national team program. Why are they boycotted back? So I mean they had a list of many things that they feel the need to prove but one of them was they won that federation's who cover for lost income women they have regular jobs and then when they go play for the national team they lose some income so what they want is for the federation to cover that to me. I think take that something needs to happen. Cruise to play for the national team should be the most proudest thing you you can do as a hockey player and it's really hard when you have to sacrifice that much to go and play at the same time I understand that federation doesn't have a lot of money but I'm happy that they're they're starting this conversation because maybe they can just look look the budget and see how they prioritize money and and see if they can move things around to make sure they can help the women feel really good about going on tournaments and and play for team Sweden and not feel like they're putting themselves in the top spot right. My understanding is the women's program has been a bit neglected collected in the sense that I mean if you look at an international level they're not having the same success he's to have no yeah the last year so it's been a little tougher the results and there no exact reason for that but obviously when when if you WANNA do well you do you need need resources to to prepare and obviously feel really good about and all your preparations and the resources sources you have when when you go to tournament for example. Do you think it was important to speak out on that all to be honest I I I was walking off practice in the report came up to me and asked about it and I've I've been reading a little bit about what was going on and I I just go to myself how I feel when it comes to play for my country and how you you you are and you go there and it has nothing to do with making money or fame were unfortunate. It's about that proud feeling representing a country of people and Just WanNa make sure they don't like I said and up in a tough spot by not getting covered so that's what I felt really you. Try to understand it from my point of view and I understand we have very different circumstances when it comes to women hockey player on on the man's hockey it's great opportunity different landscape so sometimes it's hard to really understand their situation attrition but I do know the feeling going to play for my country. I know that always feel sin. How it should feel? I WanNa talk a little bit about you. At the end of last season you said you were it was draining season. I don't WanNa totally that was the word I think he's was that were mental. Drain the kids go fainting. Though it was one of the office seasons I've played mentally to go through what we went through in part of rebuild and and first half I felt really good super excited and I played a level fellow was making a difference. The second half was tougher and it was a lot of things going on a lot of guys laugh and we're looking at the future and drive and it was tough couple months there but you learn a lot about yourself and how you react to certain things and but that also makes me feel really excited about now what happened over the summer with the draft and the signings we made in the free agency agency. I feel like the reins to couple big steps in the right direction so I'm super happy about that excited to get going. I'll talk about the good stuff. I promise but you said you questioned me the way he reacted things this thing now looking back you kind of regret saying I wish they handle that a little bit differently or I wish I came to the ring a little happier now our with a better teammate or no. I don't have any regrets it's more I don't think it a harder than expected to be to go through this whole causes it if you play counting the years Sweden probably the four five years until losses thirteen years so seventeen eighteen years where the focus has been to win I and to in ob and the Knicks and suddenly.

"And insulted for a number number of years he could not have come in more relaxed this morning well. The one thing is Jeff and this is gonNA sound a bit silly by you know how long have you you've been doing this now. started ninety five okay so you're just you're two years after me. I started ninety three so it's twenty six years and now and you've been doing primarily early hockey for how long now since about two thousand three yeah okay that's ever mega hired by hockey night in October of three like you remember when you and I we're like younger than the players and we were the youngest guys in scrums anymore not anymore but the other thing too is we are seeing players grow up before our eyes and I thought about that when I saw Ryan nugent Hopkins in the morning like I remember what he looked like when he was younger complainer red deer how young he looked yes and even his nature player in the first couple of years. He looked really young. He was thin now. He's he's a man he's muscular. He's his his body's filled out and I think the the one thing that can't Holland think does and edmunds and more than anything else is. It's a guy who seen everything everything he's not phased by allied and they've got this whole thing there with Connor mcdavid now is he going to start the year is he gonNA play play and I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't start the year but I don't get the sense that can haul and is that panicked about it and when I see a guy like nugent hopkins and he he has the time that we did this interview he hadn't met with Hall into though he had spoken to him. I just think that that's what nugent Hopkins is kind of hoping for is is that this is a guy who's not gonNA panic so we don't need to panic either. There's a group of people fans and followers of the NHL that really appreciate Ri- I knew Hopkin and they're vocal about it on social media but I always feel that is the one player you can understand why connors larger than life Leon's become the same way that always gets the short end of the stick like do you think the NHL Universe is guilty of overlooking Ryan Nugent Hopkins. I don't uh-huh by which is weird because it's the first overall pick. I don't buy that because I think the right people are always watching the right. People always recognize you. I believe that about Oh my career. I believe that about most careers if you are good at your job and you are competent the right people always notice. I think it's easy to get a clips there behind mcdavid behind dry seidel even in like an excitable up and coming player like nurse but I think the people who really know hockey. They know what he does and it's interesting. It sounds like when you listen to interview and he talks about Todd McLellan yeah. It's pretty clear thought that todd McCullough believed he was an important part of that team. It's important like no matter what anyone else thinks gotta believe your coach believes in you and it sounds like McClellan believed yeah he does have interesting things to say about his history with coaches in the NHL well. Here's the interview Ryan Nugent Hopkins on thirty thoughts the PODCAST UH dry subtle change of pace helps of gave Milan with no problem and he tried to chip it back to club ball who threw it across oss connor mcdavid top of the left circle on cost of to that spot of giving up nugent-hopkins left circle rich trick. I what a wicked boob. I ride user hopkins good patient him to stay in the play right there. Fix it off on the attempt. Withdraw unfolds already Simpson Farside loves that Short hard shot the boards caught landowner outreach little by Egypt optics great defensive play browde scraping gradings David against Elliott joined now by Ryan Nugent Hopkins the Edmonton oilers before we start talking about hockey. Ryan congratulations are in order. You're a new husband. Thank you yeah come married this summer mid July so it's it's been great where we got married in Hawaii on Maui so as beautiful everything went well and yeah it was exciting in every interview. Ask questions that you hope will get answered but you know probably won't which teammate was drunk at the wedding ooh I who were the lamp Shade Yeah One man Conga line a couple of guys. It's kind of stick out here but I'm not gonNA. I'M NOT GONNA throw names just What did they rhyme with? Uh Well Yeah I. I'M NOT GONNA throw anyway lost right now who I had a couple of friends who really lead the way so I mean body breath Ferguson. He's he's on the dance floor. He was sweating from his knees so that's Kinda. Give you a sense of what was going on the dance floor. That's a good leading people are having a good time. That's a good tell me I had a good time to hockey. I know last season didn't go the way that you wanted. That's clear from a personal point of view. How much does she look at last season just from yourself I mean statistically your best season? Do you feel like that's sort of got overlooked in what happened with the team and the individual performances says of Leeann Connor yet heck of a season last year Ryan. Thank you personally. I don't think it's a sense of being overlooked just because I mean I don't think that we should put too much importance on a good individual season if we don't play well as a team we don't have success so that's kind of what I base my season on. Obviously I'm out there trying to produce trying to help out the team personally my last two seasons have been my best as far as point production but and I've kind of found found my two game a little bit better the past two seasons in that something that Todd McLellan Kinda helped me with was kind of finding that balance and okay you want to be responsible defensively but we need you to help produce offensively. You're you're one of the guys that we rely on for that. So the kind of he really helped me find my game offensively again and now like I said it's I wanna continue to produce A and B that to a guy that'd be relied upon but I mean it doesn't really mean a thing if if we're not not having success in and obviously that's the whole goal for everybody out there. Did you have a face to face with. Ken Holland it all this summer I haven't yet but I did talk to him on the phone and he's a obviously an experienced guy. He knows what he's doing. I think he's GonNa be great for our team for organization. He's going to be that the steady guy he's he's not going to be pressured into making any any rash decisions at anytime soon. I mean he's just he's one of those guys where you knows what he's doing. He's confident in what he can do and and and that's a huge thing for us. It hasn't been easy to be an oiler last few years and I'm just curious as a player. Who's seen everything there? Is there anything that you would ever say to him. I just WanNa see this as part of our growth yeah I think for me personally. Salihi is consistency and I think that's something that's been. has kind of been lacking when we have tough years. I mean obviously when you not having success. You want to change things things up but I think at the same time it's important to to keep guys together to keep well. I've had eight nine coaches head coaches in this going going into my ninth year. I mean that's kind of starts from the top down where we want consistency from everywhere and then I mean I think that can help us play more consistent player game consistently but I think consistency has just been a huge. It's a huge thing in my head where I want to play with the same guy. I Want Bill Chemistry whether it's one guy whether it's two you guys I think that's something that's I haven't really been able to do over. The past few years is find a linemate even one linemate that I can just stick with can build chemistry with and and I think and like I was saying he's a steadfast guy think that's kind of what he'll bring it some steadiness boy. It's a great answer yeah and I want to pick up on that to. It's a great answer. I'm curious in your mind like what type of winger compliments your game the most. That's cushion Why I I still see myself as playmaker? I saw a guy who can find himself in the right spot and I think that's always been important to me is all go get that if I need to try to make a move to create some space but I wanna be able to move the puck to a guy who's ready in the right position and I think for me personally. I also like when we're all connected so three fours. I always wanted to be kind of moving. I always want to be connected. I WanNa make plays and then I feel like that opens things up you start to lose guys as soon as you you find somebody open you gotta find them in the right spot so I think fast goalscoring winger is is something I've always kind of enjoyed playing with. I would assume assume that certain points is you're. You're probably James Neal who comes in you had real nice numbers which are Cara Yeah when you which is interesting for those that may not follow the the oilers. Who Do you feel you really clicked with? I mean it's easy to say connor because Connor. Who Do you feel you've really clicked with on that team? I think you said it I mean I did place. I had some time with huge last year and actually Jesse. I mean you guys know what's going on Jesse so I don't know what story this year with him is going to be ah me Jim and Jesse we had about ten games probably the second half of the season together. I think we actually did score. ah do something good every every game so we did have chemistry and those kind of thing I mean me and we'd go get the PUCK. he's a big body. He's GonNa Create Space and time and and but he's also he's smart. I mean he's very smart. Players played center a lot so he knows was like and we always be supporting each other then things would open up happen. I mean Jesse. He's he's a goal scorer. Really you get him the puck in the right situation. He's GonNa put it in and we just connected we we felt comfortable together and unfortunately we didn't stay together as long as I had hoped with RV. Would you ever tax them. Say Anything. I can do to make this better. Do you insert yourself into that at all..

"The twenty seven year old brand and get two years left at full million a year to go, six assists. In fifty seven games would be in Couva, the twenty six year-old Pierce in two years left that three point seven five. Mill. He had sixteen points in sixty one combined games with Pittsburgh LA, good Branston interest in case. He was what flora early sent them to an Couva. Not a great. Yes Vancouver up there. But what do you think how do you think he's going to pan out is find a spot, Pittsburgh, you'd think he's going to be a deaf guy? What? I don't know. I mean, I know they probably added them for this. Well, him and Wiedeman. Did you mention the Wyden one yet? I was looking at my phone. I did not know. Okay. Well, they needed to add a little bit of depth undefended because they had a few injuries and all the Tanglin down in that outdoor game as well as Duman and he's out with a cocky, so they need some D quick. I mean, they need to make playoffs. If you don't make playoffs with sin, Gino on your team, man. You're you're burning a year off these guys these guys primes? So to me, that's what that was doing filling in a couple of holes until some guys get healthy. And to me, it's it's the right move. And they didn't have to give up too much. I mean, I don't think Tanner Pearson was a guy that they were gonna they didn't see in their line-up long-term. Yeah. And you know could Branson. He's got that that history with Wilson, you know, member that Busemann they were battling Vancouver Washington. So you never know there's some toughness there you saw Wilson did last year with the penguins three point. That's a long shot. But you never know that could be Rutherford's thanking and Pearson just didn't seem to fit in necessarily. So go to Vancouver pro get a chance to play. You know few more minutes there. I would think but yeah, they kinda deft moves there. Nothing too crazy for teams that don't really have. I mean, Pittsburgh doesn't have a ton of prospects or anything to give up. I mean, by the way, if if this core this this team ended up not winning another Stanley Cup. They've they're threes done more than enough. So anything else should be icing on the cake? And they're not looking at it that way, but it is realistic as guys start to get a little bit older. Yeah, biz you mentioned picked up Chris wideman from Florida. They traded him for joint Sebastian DEA trouble, guys. They've been up and down with a major league club this year sent back and forth..

"Again, the Hank Lundquist joining us out in San Jose, man. I've never been distracted. Like that before doing an interview such a handsome, dude. I found myself, I call my comment. He's this guy's go. Look, but thanks to hang again. And go back to the interview there. I wish the media gave them a minute to. I felt Baffoni. I mean, the guys he was almost saw. But this thicken the Mike and his face. Just hey, let's give the minute. It was like they almost like wanting them to cry. I kind of felt bad for a little bit. Speaking of crying for old teammates, Shane Donut is number retied and Arezzo the biz you with Phyllis what emotional night. I mean, where do I begin? Let's let's start the fact that I was actually invited onto the ice for the ceremony. And if I'm gonna read off a list of names here of other guys that were on the ice and one of them didn't belong and it was me. So first of all thank you in an honored. The fact that donor road the list of guys you on the ice. And I was on it. So thank you donor, very honored. And. That regard. So I got to the arena four thirty. And as I mentioned, these lists of names, I'm gonna I'm gonna read here. They were all there by the Sam bony because we had to prepare for how we're gonna walk out. And you know, we were all mingling. Jeremy Roenick, Danny Briere code Curtis. Joseph Ray, Whitney Brad may Mike Johnson. Derek morris? Adrian, a Koi Antoine dramatic. Kurt Warner and who's the thick Lubi accu- be was there, and Larry FitzGerald. So I go in for the handshake with Larry because I met him a few times I played it as charity softball game. He I go for the white guy handshake. He comes and gives me a hug Larry fits like a boss. Why on the cool sky in the world for the next week? Don't even question that so on my holy shit. I'm pumped right? So then we go onto the ice. From start to finish. The the ceremony was unbelievable. Very well put together other needs to be some thanks giving up quickly here to the people who did put it together. I have it all written down. Arizona coyotes vice president of communications and broadcasting rich Nair was one of the guys who spearheaded the whole ceremony and put it all together along with Lamont buffered who who actually worked for Hershey when you were playing in your H L days with and he does all the game op stuff and his team of John Kingston, Dave Ellsworth, Robert Clark, and Courtney owner didn't incredible job of organizing it first class that it was the to the master of ceremonies, which was Todd Walsh, who's an era. Zona broadcasting legend loves airs sports. There was no other guy that they would have gotten to do this him and donor very close. He did a great job of teeing. Everybody up so shuttled to Todd Walsh. And what he brought to it getting onto the speeches. They had Gary Bettman their love Bettman's new style of him wearing probably three thousand dollars suit. And then a six running shoes really hasn't. Guess he wears a six running shoes suits. Now, he doesn't even consider throwing address true. Obviously was greeted with boos. He takes it. Well, man, I I like Batman. I I think he's funny and how he just kind of laughs it off. And he's a very good speaker said some really nice things and reiterated how a big reason why the coyotes got to stay in Arizona was because of Shane dawn. And also some of the work you did during the lockout in order to get that deal done. When when I was at least playing in the league, then it was onto Aaron Cohen who's the president and chief executive officer of the zone. Okay. Ody's who's done a great job of revamping this team and helping with with the growth of the coyotes and putting them in the right direction. He spoke. He did an awesome job all recommend Larson had a pre video of it. Like they record them because he had to play a game..

"But they have kind of the roster in the core. That's already shine long term where they can go for it. Yeah. You mentioned what made a few other deals today. Couple of other depth. Moves jets. Also got word dummies, Sears, D depth. I know fucked me up all the time. I also picked up forward. Matt hendricks. Minnesota for a seventh round the little full depth army. He's only had two assists in twenty two games. They also picked up Nathan boy loop Boileau the defenseman used to play for Montreal us with buffalo. How do you say blue a boy Lou anyways? Nate them. Boy, Lou from buffalo for six round that he's making two point four million this year. He's going to be restrained. More fucking time soon. Hawk line. So. Yeah. Couple of moves, basically depth. That's what you need playoff time. Because eventually guys are gonna get hurt. That's inevitable complain time. So go luck the hazy. I'm happy. I hope he gets a nice Cup run this year. And like you said also national they made some moves as well. If these two teams men, it's interesting because one of them's not even probably gonna make obviously not gonna make the fuck and final. So I was clicking around between TSN sports that I heard maybe fifteen times people say that national Winnipeg's and arms race take up here. It's an arms race like the fucking Cold War all over again. We said the press are also busy Monday loading up for the playoff run. And they won the wing trained sweepstakes Nashville God wing Simmons from Philly forward. Ryan Hartman in a conditional twenty twenty fourth round the the thirty year old Simmons is a pending UFA. He's got sixteen goals, eleven assists. In ninety pins in sixty two games at Philly this year, the twenty four year old hop will be an IRA Fay after the season. He's got a eight hundred seventy five K gap. It a V. He's got ten goals tennis cysts in twenty. I'm sorry. Ten goals tennis system, sixty four games with the prejudice year show doing train. I was hoping Boston got him which is stance on this one biz while they needed to add a little bit of toughness upfront. That's a one thing they're lacking. And we talked about Winnipeg size up front. That's gonna be a nice a nice catalyst for for Nashville going forward and a good net front presence. You know, he's he's playoff tested, man. Wayne Simmons type of guy you want very emotional deceive aura checks out that picture. You know, he was loved and Philadelphia by teammates the fans by everyone and to me just in bodies. What that is about just a agree player. One thing. I will say I hope he has a great run in playoffs. And I hope you fucking gets paid that guy has been underpaid entire career. He dead timing. Bad just bad timing. I think it was twenty. But God I mean, he could he should've made like fifty sixty and hold on the next deals where when he cashes in the problem is he's a little bit banged up based on the style of play. He has I'm just hoping for like two or three year deal at like five or six million that we can cash in another, you know, fifteen twenty million and ride into the sunset after that. Because that guy deserves it guy that I want my team any day of the week. Yeah. And you know, what like it was cool to see after the game the game. You guys were at jerus- gave vortex the helmet, and then he stood up and said, I think it went viral pretty much. It said, you know, this could be your last game. Wayne Simmons gave him the player the game helmets. So yeah, I mean that guy, and you know, what though Ryan Hartman he's Phillies gonna like him. He's a these ship disturb or he plays hard. And he's got ten goals this year..

"But he a lot of it is covered the ground because he's so quick to get to the other side of the net. And that's exactly what he did on that stop. Well, last night interesting game tonight back to back, right? Second game of back to back. The Rangers are a young team, but they're playing well and certainly to end this road trip on a high note getting some points before you head back to Emily on Tuesday. Yeah. A teeny feel you should be, you know, the Rangers even though they haven't playing well, they're they're kind of an in between mode where they're not quite a playoff team anymore. But they've got some really good players and Chris Kreider mat-su Carello, and because you had the hatrick, and then I'd Henrik Lundqvist is always a presence in that. He was an all star all star thought he looked really good at all star weekend. So you've got a really still a good number of core players from their successes that they had in reaching conference. Finals in the Stanley Cup final. And but at the same time, they're they're trying to reach a little bit on the fly. So to kind of caught in between. So this is a team that you should try. And you would you would hope that you can take advantage of that aspect and and be the number one team in a conference and pick up the two points. Like, you everybody expects you should. And this game though, got a little bit more challenging for Tampa Bay. Just got word from Dave Michigan. Brayden points out with a lower body injury day to day. We know how important he is to this team. Does a lot of things offensively. But defensively he's out tonight. In addition to looks like search F, correct? Yeah. And you know, that we we know this rotations going on. But circuits I've got banged around a couple of times last night. He took a couple of really big hits one where basically the upper half of his body slammed into the boards a little bit. So we'll we'll have to see on one. But yeah, the the big one to keep an eye on spring point. He is such an important player on this team takes on the tough match. He's. So important on the road. When maybe the other teams, try and get away from the match point. So plus you lose a guy who's that in that slop position on the power play. The bumper position leads a team of power play goals. It's a big presence to lose rating points not going to be in that. I didn't see anything that happened to him last night. And of course, what it does then too. Is that shuffles all the line combination round? So now, you've got Andre Polat and Steven stamkos still together. Makita kucherov is gonna be lay. So we'll see the stamkos kucherov. Wow. Harrington at based on pregame. Warmups? Matthew Joseph gets elevated up to play with Tyler Johnson, Yanni gore and the Lawrence Sarah Miller lines stays the same Ernie pot. Cattleman Reich Eoghan drives back in after being scratched the last couple of games. But the loss of brain point is we'll have to keep an eye on that one for sure the domino effect as you said and Lou demand. Get an opportunity to start tonight. He's been good one called upon. He has been and then I would expect nothing else from him. He's been so solid. Whether it's one start in five games or. Twelve out of thirteen when Alaska was down. He has done everything that this team has asked him to do. And that's give him a chance to win on nightly basis. And it's been awhile since he's played good opportunity for him to get in. And what should be a fun atmosphere at MSG Ryan Callahan back in the lineup. And that's going to be a lot of fun for him for a lot of reasons. Planning his former team, but he's been out of the lineup for a couple of games. He has been we talked about that last night in the fact that John Cooper had mentioned how they want some of the younger players to be tested and get an opportunity in some of these more high profile games as you go down the stretch in against opponents that are fighting for playoff spots. You know, you wanna see what those guys are made of. But again as we discussed last night. I think Ryan Callahan can still be an important player. He's not the player..

"League-record and welcome to the Friday edition of games conduct. Diam Don, the Greco lots to get to so many different places. We can start there. So many crazy games last night. Congratulations to empty Beauvilliers gets his first NHL hat trick. Is I four point game in the outer seventy five win over the Rangers. I don't know what it is ranger just can't win and Brooklyn. Oh, six and one in seven meetings at Barclay center since the islanders moved in there in two thousand fifteen twenty sixteen eight consecutive wins for the owners of the Rangers. That's a franchise record against the aisles. And consider there's a team won four straight Stanley Cups and never had an game winning streak against the Rangers. And the Rangers actually been pretty good over the last few years, but you know, for whatever reason the Rangers bring the best out of the islanders, and the chant in Brooklyn was you can't beat us which is going on for the last couple of years. Gotta see these teams play in the postseason would just be amazing. The crowd was a little sparse because of the bad weather in the state area. So it's a little over thirteen. Thousand people usually that's a pretty much guaranteed sell-out, especially with all the problems the had in Brooklyn, the Rangers bring a lot of fans and their spirited and their feisty. And it was a great call to just a wide open crazy game third time in the last four games. The Rangers of Blohm a two-goal lead had the first two goals this game. They get a power play goal from Kreider. They got a goal from clayson his first since November tenth of last year. So a calendar year for clayson his first goal is the ranger. But then the outer score six of the next seven goals Rangers make it interesting down six three get a couple of tallies to make it six five. But the Nelson scores the empty netter to put it away and a little disconcerting for Henrik Lundqvist allowed five goals on seventeen shots and did not play the third period. Alexander Georgi of played almost put himself into a winning situation. The Rangers really have no shot if Lundquist isn't going to play well and lung Quist did not play. Well, maybe for the first time in a while that that's been the case here. About the Rangers showed heart. They showed fight. But just not enough as this islanders team. Now's won a couple in a row after three straight losses. And I thought Greis was good to give up five goals, but he did face forty-one shots in the game. And some high quality saves to boot by the story is Anthony Beauvilliers getting his first four point nine. It's first NHL hattrick in the win the devils blanked the Philadelphia Flyers three nothing. So after the double struggled on the road. They've finally win a game in Philadelphia's they've undefeated so far in the state of Pennsylvania. Right. I mean, we're actually they did lose the flyers earlier this year in Philadelphia. But now the devils with their road victories three of them to against Pittsburgh in one against Philadelphia..

"Price at one eight of nine meetings with Henrik Lundqvist. Hank was good again last night, and Kevin Hayes has three assists. But what got everybody buzzing about last night's victory was Neil PR. There's so much promise around this kid. They really haven't had appointment on the power play men that can be offensive since Brian Leetch. And I'm not saying he's Brian Leetch. Believe me, we got a long way to go before we start talking about and being a future hall of Famer. But he. Coast to coast late and third period. Snap a three three tie just a gorgeous goal and this after he pinched early in the game that cost the Rangers goal went to tar score twenty three seconds since we made up for it. Good kid, and that's got a lot of ranger fans buzzing here is they've won four in a row. They're going on the road to play Friday in Detroit Saturday in Columbus with a chance to get above five hundred see if they can stay there. So a lot of things coming out of the Rangers victory. They finally played while in the third period after having that be a problem now for the last couple of weeks to dominate a good hockey team in Montreal. Maybe the Canadians were a little tired from playing the night before and having overcome a three one deficit boot against the islanders in Brooklyn. But the Rangers don't care. They win the game five to three and win their fourth in a row. Disturbing loss for the devils. They had a to nothing lead early on Ottawa from goals from hall and Palmeri arguably the best line in the National Hockey League along with this year, but the devils Kansas state at very early similar to the Tampa game last week when the devils took a quick to nothing lead. Only to get crushed eight to three last night. They lose to Ottawa Seventy-three. Now's a couple of different places. We can go here. You can throw Cory Snyder under the bus if you want. Now there were a couple of bad goals and he's to now's coming back from the hip injury. But forty two shots on goal for an Ottawa Senators team that's not reminding anybody of the ninety one penguins. So the defensive coverage was not good. You could tell me the devils had that spirited win over Pittsburgh the night before maybe they had tired legs. They had a lot going in the first period. Couldn't sustain it. There's a lot of excuses you can make. But with the controversy surrounding who is the number one goaltender on this team. Both Snyder and Kincaid have had stinkers over the last week, but certainly can Cade giving up. Eight goals to Tampa pales in comparison to seven goals given up to Ottawa so Steiner's got a battle for that. Number one job tough loss for the devils. They fall seven three and a good job out of Ottawa bouncing back after getting crushed in buffalo on Saturday giving up nine goals. So nice win as it was Mark stone with five points, two goals and three assists for auto Toronto beats Vegas three to one survey. Still in that Malays is Toronto's now when a couple of games in a row now and even five hundred and the four games without Austin Matthews. Columbus excited to see them on Saturday. I'll see them live for the first time this year, they beat Dallas four to one as there's four different goal scores for the blue jackets, including Anthony declare has been a nice story with a six goal of the season for the blue jackets Detroit trying to warm up a little bit here. They hold off and cougar three to Vancouver jumped out to a quick to nothing lead in this one. As Pederson scored his tenth on the season. So he's the front runner for the colder trophy and Vancouver. Took to nothing lead early in the second period on Hutton's third, but an advocate or makes it to one a little bit later on. It would be Nyquist two scores early in the third period of tight and they go to the shootout and Larkin gets a shootout goal. And it stands as Detroit picks up three to win in the shootout over Vancouver. But a nice point on the road for the canonical though. I'm sure they're looking. They're one's a little bit. At the fact that they blew the to nothing lead..

"I think clearly favors Columbus at this particular point. It's hurt Columbus because appearance contract. But I'm not sure sods that contributor Patrick sharp is is gone. I mean, so. So there's a transition going on here that certainly puts a focus on balm. But right now, he's running the franchise bringing the kids in and he wants to bring in another coach. But if that doesn't work. Yeah. Then then stand Beaumont is obviously going to be under consideration losing his job too. So the focus always goes to the general manager, you only get so many hirings and firings. You just let go of a future hall of fame coach if it doesn't work I wouldn't say this year. But by next year, whoever it is they bring in whether this guy's the interim coach they go after an aide. They continue to try to with a younger guy. I don't know what direction they're gonna go into. But I would say at the end of next year. You'll reevaluate and then you start paying attention to. Did they bring the right guys in here? Now Bowman's done a great job. His father's been a contributor to this team. The Blackhawks are far from the embarrassment. They were ten fifteen years ago. But clearly looks like they're on their way to a second straight year of missing the playoffs after winning three Stanley Cups. It's just odd. The timing. You're right. If they had done this in the summer, I don't think anybody would a blink. Dan, I doing it on November six that's definitely raised of you eyebrows. Phillips says what a game by the king last Sunday. He is so good and has been all season before the season. The hockey news ranked Henrik was the twenty fifth best goalie in the league twenty fifth. It's just insane. Why is there? So many Hank haters give him some love, please. Well, I'll tell you this. I like the hockey news. I subscribe to the hockey news. I get it. I love their crossword puzzle by the way, but they just love themselves. The Canadian guys will why is why is Kerry price always considered one of the best goaltenders and league hangs resume is much better than Kerry prices, much better. But price always gets the consideration as a better goaltender Henrik Lundqvist. I think it's ridiculous. Now, I don't know if it's a European bias. I don't know whether it's the fact that the Rangers have not won a Stanley Cup. But look at the goal tender's that have won Stanley Cups. Are you gonna put a lung Quist behind NIU? Emmy. Or crawford. I wouldn't do that or quick even quick Scott, two Stanley Cups. I'm still not sure he's the goaltender. Henrik Lundqvist is so twenty fifth was in a barrister. It was a joke. I mean, he had no blue line in front of him last year. He's facing fifty shots a game. And you're right. Forget about the wins and losses. He has been stellar this year and they win that game on Sunday because they him out outshot fifteen to five in the first period, and he made fifteen saves. So I don't know what it is with the hockey news far as their love of Carey price and their disrespect for Henrik Lundqvist. But definitely it's a problem. Kyle asked a great question, and we're going to get into this to a Don did you hear about the senators? Uber ride thoughts. I mean who doesn't talk bad about their bosses job sometimes laugh out loud. All right. Here's the story. There were a few Ottawa Senators there were in an Uber when they were in Arizona during their rooms recent road trip there were talking bad about their assistant coach and the Uber driver posted it on social media. And it did not go particularly well Marty Raymond is the special teams coach for the Ottawa Senators. They had some very disparaging things to say about him in the Uber ride. Nothing awful. But certainly not it was kind of awkward the guys in the cab that you know, about they were Chris wideman who's a veteran. Matt Shane who's been there for a couple of years. Chris Tierney who came over from San Jose in that trade with Carlson Dylan demo-. Was in the cab as well..

"So he couldn't play in the top three lines and the minutes and play with that kind of skill just wasn't ready. He goes, I can put them on the fourth line so we can be with the big club. But it means I've got this young dynamic player and I'm playing him eight to ten minutes a game playing her playing him with other fourth line players don't have. Nearly his skill. So he's not really going to get to do much with the players that will play with him on the fourth line. Plus he's going to be going up against other fourth lines that have bruisers and big physical guys, and that's not going to be good for him to play against those types of guys. So having be in the minor leagues until he is ready to play on the top pairings, we can play with guys that have similar skill sets to him and he can play against guys that aren't going to be physically imposing to him. And I think that really makes a lot of sense. So they could put Anderson on the fourth line just to say in the NHL, but is he really going to accentuate his towns the way he can playing on a top line in Hartford, grooming his skills, and he, you're going to see him. We had Henrik Lundqvist on the Michael case show yesterday, and he said, we're going to see Anderson. But right now it just doesn't make a lot of sense to just have him be a fourth mind player getting a handful of minutes. So I'm. If you TIMMY, you'll look at how Boston and handled Wheeler back in the day. I think that's similar to and look what he's become in Winnipeg. And I think that's what you're going to have with Anderson. He eventually will be here and will be a star Anwar. Fanatic says, great to have the podcast back in the event that Seattle gets an expansion team. What would you name it? I unfortunately can't think of any at the moment where they're gonna get an expansion team. Apparently, Dave Tippett who's an adviser for Seattle said that the idea of a arena being redone, they're gonna redo keyarena to convert it to hockey might be a little bit of a tight window for October of twenty twenty. So either that means they play somewhere else. Maybe they play a lot of games on the road to start, or we're looking at a team beginning in twenty one, twenty two. So keep an eye out for it. They are coming. It's just a matter whether it's going to be two or three years Thunderbirds hops to mind because of the old minor league affiliations. But I'm with you nothing really leaps to mind at all, and you don't want to steal the SuperSonics because I do believe this new arena is going to usher in a return of the SuperSonics in the NBA Sam says, hey, Don thought I'd like to watch the Rangers tonight. It's always a treat to hear you call games on the radio. You are outstanding and what you do. What do you think call chucks impact will be with the kings this season while he's he's in his mid thirties now. All right. It's been awhile since he played in the National Hockey League. He's looked good in the preseason, but my concern for Coble Chuck will be playing a full eighty two game schedule against the best of the best k gel is good k. h. l. is above minor league. Some people will say, but it's not the National Hockey League and it's been a long time since he's been here. So it might take a little while to get things going. I'm not a believer that he is going to be a star again in this league anytime soon or at all. But you know how much of an impact he's going to have on a kings team that's really gonna need all the. Impact they can can cope with Dr duplicate what he did last year. Can they kick keep Jonathan quake, healthy and what is a very competitive Pacific Division. They will need Kovalchuk to be something. I'm just not sure that he's going to be the Ilya Kovalchuk. He was with the Thrashers and the devils back in the day. Robert says, great to have the podcast back. Is there a rule that goalies can't be team captains? I've never seen a goalie wearing a see. Clearly Hank.

"They took their chance on a guy they knew better than anyone and he is rewarding their faith and i think you're suddenly looking at it like we were wandering of henrik lundqvist prime was maybe one or two more years you hope for three or four would be thrilled with five will now you're looking at and you're saying you know what we still really have something here he's having a great year so i think you can do year rebuild and sat at the same time and so are you saying than you're more in favour signing older players a longerterm contracts even though you know if you look at how the numbers breakdown generally forwards peak around twenty six yes and by the time someone gets the age of thirty you don't want to be handed out said i think you every case is different i'm a big baseball fan okay i love baseball and i think the analytics have been good for baseball for the most part but i think that they're starting to really heard it the world series was great last year but how many pictures were taken out ridiculously early indians last year any time you walk new trouble in the sixth inning you're gone knows every time i turn on jeff blair on five ninety uh in the summer uh within five in i hear the phrase pitch count yep and baseball has become it used to be the old way and people said no that's groupthink and now were doing analytics another group think that wag the whole sport thinks the same now and it's actually made me think about as analysts start to become a bigger and bigger part of hockey.

"Everybody's entitled to a bad moment right i don't i don't have any problem with him at all i don't have as you're over there i think that when he's older he will look at that and say i was a kid i was a kid and i think you'll player appreciate the medal because it's so hard to get it but i don't have a big deal everybody's entitled especially when if i got penalized for all the things i did when i was nice i wouldn't be here right now but you know i i think the things interesting to me about the rangers's were seen this line baseball right now we are guilty of groupthink on longterm contracts for older people older athletes the you look at major league baseball right now the market is paralysed because the entire baseball world thinks that we do not give longterm deals to aging players so there's no free agency getting done and the players talked about boycotting spring training that they can't do that they were warned they can't do that but they're are angry and you know i obviously when you sign a longterm deal at an older player you taken a bigger chance but that whole sport is paralysed because everybody thinks the same nhl there's some of that too you know like don't sign an older player to a longterm deal but i look it when the rangers did it for long quiz we all said the same thing roof this one is big i look at this and i say the rangers new henrik lundqvist better than anybody else.
