He just signed a contract extension through the twenty twenty three season to remain at hendrick motorsports and hendrick cars dot com is going to be the brand and the majority sponsor of the car Were thirty five race schedule. This is huge news. I mean he's still in the middle of his first year with the team. Granted he's doing really well and lighting the season on fire but Besides that that's that's the news with. Kyle

Bowman Zips Past Larson After Late Flat and Wins at Pocono

"At Pocono today, Kyle Larson was looking to tie the all time record with his Fourth straight victory. He had the lead on the final lap. But then he's got a flat tire who left front tire's flat. It's down. He's going to go into the wall, Kyle Larson of the war Bowman's going to get by him a flat tire for Kyle Larson. And now Alex Bowman is going to win it. Pocono. Unbelievable. That was the call on NBC sports This afternoon. Larson finishes ninth, crossing the finish line with sparks flying out from underneath that number five. Five car. His teammate Alex Bowman gets the win instead. Although Larson couldn't get his fourth straight win, Rick Hendrick's cars continue their streak that is the sixth straight win for Hendrick Motorsports. They have not lost a NASCAR race. Since the race at Darlington Back on May nine. There were two guys from Indiana in this race Chase Briscoe finished 24th Justin Haley was 27. Now this was The first of two races at Pocono this weekend. They're doing a double header for NASCAR, so the Cup guys will race again tomorrow afternoon. IndyCar is off this weekend, but they will be back in action next

"In my opinion this might the guys have penske the guys at gr. Those guys Guys that have their fingers their tentacles and other areas and other honors racing. The i feel they're gonna have an advantage over us because they have had that experience. Now how long will that advantage last or to. What degree is that advantage. That's yet to be seen. But the comfort level for a lot of those folks is going to be significantly higher. I if you think of cliff daniels and rudy and and alan greg. Those guys have never worked done anything that i'm more of that has independent suspension or or any of the likes at a at a high level right now some of these other guys. How does it help to do pitstops with the the larger wheels and everything which i think are similar to what. You'll have next gen with i. Don't it hurts. We've got a couple of guys that are true. Pick pit performers. That are kind of getting into that to try to do it. But a lot of the guys that we put on this are more for their racer know-how as opposed to their actual athleticism reason. Being is is when we put this thing together. It was like look. We need some guys that can come and understand a race car ride like if you know a wheel. Tell is bent or rubbing. Or what have you. They need to be able to in that twenty four hour race or the twelve hour race. Be able to identify with that raise their hand. Do it not just do a pitstop run away in. Have somebody else. Come over and work on the car. Does that make sense. Though we put together more of a core group of guys that had racing intangibles that that you know they just knew what race car was and how it works and they had athleticism on top of it. Now one of the guys that we've got performing at a new guy that we brought in his name. Is cody french. And he has been brought in basically just to be our first developmental monologue type guy and he will be changing tires on that car. Jimmy mentioned that you may have own some sports cars in your time your father now so maybe you don't own as just said what if you had had your collection man. I've had a lot. I've got a two thousand. I've got two zero. Six forbade output a super charger on it. You know so that things pretty cool. I had the last. My soul was apportioned. See for ass so i've had. I've had a lot of different cars over the over. The time that i've i've enjoyed for sure. There's just a couple switching over to minivans though now and it's just so sad it is dude. I really wanna get that electric for porsche right. I think it's a cool cool looking car in gordon's drive one. And he drove up the other day. And i'm going to get it. I'm going to get like man. The baby seeds just won't fit in that thing very well. It is like it just takes the cool factor right out of it and you mentioned cadence. The rhythm of the races in you're used to calling races that lasts three to four hours and the twenty four hour as you call that twelve hour race. Now you've got a six hour race How are they different. How's it different. I guess managing the rhythm of three to four hour. Nascar races versus an endurance. Sports car and will be easier. Maybe with six hours as opposed to twelve or twenty four. I didn't think it was different. I thought it was. It was fine until i screwed up. Right so prior to making that mistake it was really enjoyable. Because you're looking at it. Okay the drivers capable running x. Laptop okay so if he is advancing at this pace refused. You know losing at this pace. You're kind of mentally taking note that You're you're paying attention to traffic and how it's going you're managing the traffic on courses when you should pitch shortage to go run a little bit long depending on tire deg Soul all that really is not that foreign. You know you pit every thirty five minutes. Whatever let's just say norm depending upon the venue. I don't know exactly what watkins glen is going to be. But you run more off of time. Obviously than you do laps like we do on the cup side. So that's a not a difficult transition honestly like you get a pretty quickly With the data that's provided you can really make some phone calls Yeah that's what we did seabourn. Oddly enough jimmy spinning out early on in the event really put us in the captured speed because we were able to come in do a short fill it back in Right behind the leaders and we were able to shortstop and boom boom boom throughout the course of remember exactly. How far was but we went from like thirty seconds. Behind shortstop shortstop shortstop the frogs from traffic running second in the next hour leading the race is like now that that worked out you know and then of course we made our fatal error which took us out of it but if it hadn't been for that little nugget we were going to be leading the race so i think that's super cool right. So you're you're able to continue to use strategy manage the events Based off of the ability of the driver the ability of the car at the given time It's not so unlike anything else that we've done at one more you and this is a steve nascar question. So latorre has been on my podcast on nascar america here on the set here a few times this year and he's been sort of fascinated by how well hendrick run and he's wondered how the debriefs work these days because you got four drivers in your twenties and the road of we soft spoken and we had alex bowman on nascar america a month ago or so and we asked him about it and alex is answer was giving me what inside your lab. Give me like. Is there a leader in the group. Is it really by comedian. How these meetings run now. Without a jeff gordon or jimmy johnson junior behind the wheel check masses in that meeting right. I wanted the witness. I didn't want to lead the witness. Yeah he He's really taken over those.

Sizing up Kyle Larson's Extraordinary Run

"Want to talk about. Kyle larson in this role that this guy is on. You worked with jeff. Gordon you compete against jeff gordon. The nine hundred ninety eight and this is what this reminds me of right now. That kyle larson has six consecutive races. First or second place finishes four victories. Three points races put in perspective australia. Steve what this role means because to me. It feels a lot like jeff. Gordon circa one thousand nine hundred. Well listen. so he's driving premier equipment. The hendra motorsports car seem to have the most speed in the field but the counter that is driving that against three other premier drivers right so it's easy to say it's got the fastest stuff yet but you to chase elliott william byron and alex bone to do it and oh by the way he did he drove around chase elliott with one of the most masterful gutsy all star race tight moves driving to the outside quarter panel a third lane. We had yet to see in ninety laps. So the move for the all star race was outstanding. I think kyle. I think this is the kyle larson. We all thought was out there. You can only decided but he wins in everything. He's so much talent we didn't know if it was his preparation holding him back if it was asked if it was his youth if it was his lack of mentor sh we didn't know we'll never know because it kind of all the jumbled up reset but now he's an organization with a lot of leadership. Jeff gordon you mentioned it stein in the fox booth what he's still has a role andrew motorsports rick hendrix there. Chad can houses there. We asked outs blue being us out. Hey how're the post like you said you ever met chad kind of. There's a lot of leadership around him and a lot of confidence and a lot of talent and driving great equipment and i think that's what you're seeing right the combination of the three two minutes amount of confidence. And you know we said it on our preview show. You and i both cholera and watching. Because you take that much talent with that much motivation. The timing of hendrick motorsports and what they're doing communist chevrolet and where they are in the grand scheme of things. You got this recipe for success. Now he's doing it against the defending champion on. His team is the defending champion of our series. And he's taking the fight to him

"Jeff burton in the nbc sports charlotte studios another post. Addition of the podcast. Geoff we're talking. Dover national speedway race on may sixteenth. One by alex bowman. But i think we'll start with the most notable part of this race hendrick motorsports the first one two three four finish for hendrick in its team history. Only the fourth time in cup history. That's been done in the first and the cup series since rosh benway racing team. You have some knowledge of two thousand five at the season finale at homestead miami speedway so just to give you a little context henrik has only been a four car team since two thousand and four so i one two three four finishing essentially seventeen years. I that they've been able to do that but you know what's your first reaction to that. When you hear the hendrick motorsports for the first time ever in what thirty. Seven years of history has a one two three four finish. Well i think about is two years ago when we were talking about. What's wrong with hendrick right. And we we. We had this expectation level of hendrik. That's pretty high. We expect to see them contending for championships winning the lottery to me to me. In the era that i raced in hendrick was the most dominant team out there and that faded faded over time and it was. They didn't jump right back into it. They had to work themselves back into it. And now here they are and they also invested you. Think about what they did. They invested in a lot of youth right so took brought a lot of young drivers and that has cultivated into a very young team with a lot of winners on it heading into right direction. This is the opposite of what we were talking about. Two years ago. I think hendrick motorsports is repositioning themselves to be dominant force. They won the championship last year. We chase elliott now chase elliott. That hasn't wanna raise this year and alex bowman's want to i know chase elliott fans. Think well that's not good but it is good if the guy that won championship you last year is the guy. That's not winning this year and everybody else has stepped it up. That's a good thing. Now they've chase elliott rezoning twentieth every weekend. That what that's not chase elliott's running okay. He's not been winning expecting to do. But but that's a good problem for a team to have. It's almost impossible to have all four clicking. You know what i mean. It's really really difficult. But i just i just i think a reversal of where we were two years ago. That's the first thing that pops in my brain and to your point you know. It's one thing for fast cars. I think that happens fairly often but to f four vast cars combined with four very well executed races. Yeah it's a it's a cool thing and it's very chase elliott said after the race that any team can have four fast cars but to have four fast cars with four well executed races where no one is making mistakes or speeding or you know following a lap down. That's what might have been so impressive about this performance. Yeah that's right and track position was really important and so clearly. All the pictures did their jobs. I mean you can say. We'll collar didn't do his job. Ads bowman beat them out fair enough. Alex bowlen's pit crew has been the best on pit road all year. Long if you look at the average pit road stop. Alex bowman and that forty eighteen. They'd been the best so would raisins about right. It is a team sport. We've talked about it for years. But i would say a clean race for everybody and that's that's hard to do. I mean when you're a car owner. I always feel bad for car owners because you know one guy is really happy and the other guy. Your team is not like. It's hard to liz. Leave the track saying yes. I feel really good but on that day rekindle certainly had to. There's a lot for a kendrick to be happy about right now. Namely that he is on the cusp of more nascar history. His teams now have two hundred and sixty seven cup victories. That is one short of tying petty enterprises for the all time record and oh by the way circuit of the americas coming up this weekend. I hear chase elliott's pretty good at road courses. He has never win this year. The only hendrick driver who doesn't have a win so i'd say life is pretty good for reconsidering right now. Jeff hello listen. I think too i think for rick i think anybody right but but rick's very competitive person and he did not like hearing. That teams weren't winning. He did not like the scrutiny. Right that that we and others were giving him. He didn't like that. I don't blame you. i wouldn't like it either. Here's the guy that's one you know. Like i said before he he was you know he had the team that we were all. Judging ourselves against for the majority of the time there were times it wasn't but for the majority of that time he was the owner of the team that was the most accessible and then he goes to this down period. that's hard to take. I mean it's way harder to have something in lose it right then have never had it and and i think he's a very private guy and i think that some of it's like yep y'all keep talking you know what i mean and i'll show you but it's just so hard i mean it's so hard to get talk a lot about multi car teams. Everybody pulling in right direction. I think that's kinda wrong. I think the hardest thing about a multi-car team. I think the easiest thing for more degar team would be for everybody to pull understanding direction. The most difficult part about a multi-car team is that alex bowman does not want to drive the same setup as colorado just hypothetically. I don't know that they had different setups. But hypothetically get every driver every crew chief the things that they need when they all might need something different. I mean stewart haas a great example of that right if everybody can just so kevin harvick set up in and off they go. They'd all run better. But it's not that easy. I for years kevin harvick and i drove almost the same exact setup in our xfinity car. We both win and it got to the point and cup. I couldn't even consider running. We actually took one of his cars one time and ran at the same way he ran in and i couldn't come close to run away. He and so how do you. How do you juggle all that. And how do give everybody what they need when they all need something different and you want them all to have the same thing. That's the most economical most efficient way to run a race. Team has has the same thing all the time. Then work like that right so i think that's what's the hardest thing about a cup team multi-car team is how do you give everybody what they need and serve the company at the same time. It's very difficult. Kendrick has always preached jeff that it's about the people. He talked a little bit more about that in post race yesterday. But the way we've kind of started by four five years ago just putting all engineers on lifespan. all broucci's it won't lace taking our best folks like ron malik. They are in charge of this of the goal. Judge there in shop in the jeff andrews. And i don't think we've ever allow no we don't i've never would narrow add the focus on four..

"Nascar. Short-track action cup series from richmond raceway. Let's run things down. Ten to one austin dillon. There at number ten then he got mad to benedetto a nice finish there with top ten. Kyle busch at a pit road. Problem finishes eighth william byron eric. Merola martin tricks junior. Also pit road problems. Christopher bell number four and joy lugano his eleventh. Top five at richmond aright. Let's talk about the top. Two i up denny hamlin dominated again won. Both of the stages led a ton of laps. And it's still winless in twenty twenty one despite all top ten finishes except for one where he finished eleventh. He is the points leader by a ton anyway. So i'm sure he's not too upset. He does want a notch that window to victory lane. No one saw this coming. Alex bowman heads to victory lane. Grabs the checkered flag. Gives it to a fan for his first career. Short-track win after recovering from a pit road penalty. It's his third career cup series win. It's been twenty three richmond races. "Or on grass around stone either smooth or bumpy other drivers get on the same tire and it's like they're wearing big thick platform shoes on the trampoline. And they just don't know where the ground is. Try walking on a trampoline right. You don't know if it's up it's down this or it's that and it's in. It's it's that's the way. I can correlate it to drivers right some go win and they know every inch where their car is what the car needs in how. The tire reacts other guys. Just don't have that. Feel so the question. I have for these toyota guys specifically kyle busch. Is you know he did finish. Third de hamlin. Fourth martin two x six christopher bell seventh i would be concerned for kyle busch if he was five spots behind his teammates. But throw a blanket over you know third seven from the kind of ran their blanket over them so i think the bigger question for me is can kyle busch stay patient as they try to improve these things because to your point you say third good kyle busch said third bad why everybody all the time you could coochie for one guy who would it be. It's hard to not picabo lists now may want to drag them out of the car by his helmet after the enemy like you're such a hot head but the counter is never would. I have doubted his effort. Every single lap mind like what he says on the radio kabul the time i would say that he was on this podcast. Listen i don't love what you say or how you say that but i could never say you giving your all. There's just something kind of great about that. It's it's almost back to like high school athletics or college athletics. What they say about college basketball last march is so great because every kid on the court is giving it all every bit. Right of kyle busch. He's like college athlete rightly he is. He doesn't run out of out of bounds. He turns it back field for another half a yard or like he is all in and it can be taken incorrectly or correctly. But i don't have worried about him. I think that correlation is a concern. But all you can do is continue to have a very good plan go to the racetrack execute and then come back and circle back through. And i'm sure they're doing all of those things remember. Throw this car away in thirty three more weeks dump on you have to ask yourself. How much money are you going to spend trying to correlate. And that's a great point. Break asking me last night that some teams clearly doubling down on twenty twenty one. But some i think are looking at this as a throwaway year. They're already looking at twenty twenty two. There was no parties arteries conversely. Now there's no parts freeze. Yeah right. I know so about kyle one more point there. I think you're right. It's great to have a guy who just wants to be the best at everything all the time. And how could you quibble with that. But at the same time if you're bayshore air new crew chief in the cup series. You've won the clash you've given kyle. I think a better car than he had for the most of last year and he finished his third race for. Do you think there's a little part of invasion was like oh man like what more can i do. I know this guy is two-time champion. I know he wants to be the best all the time. But like you know coming just a little slack or maybe maybe kyle cutting slack behind closed doors and we just don't see it. I think it's completely unfair for us to correlate what we see publicly what they work on privately. I think ben bayshore knew exactly what he was signing up for when he signed up bush's. Not dr jekyll. And mr hyde. He doesn't change personalities whether you like personality or not. It's very consistent. Don't confuse the two. I think it's actually easier to work with a guy with a very consistent personality regardless of how perhaps aggressive it is at times then kind of one of passive aggressive. And you don't know what you're out you're going to get kabushiki. Know who you're going to get and it's very clear so i think ben bayshore knew what he was signing up for and i think taking anything that's publically and having any sort of correlation what happens privately would be completely unfair and unfounded. Because when i look at kabul's resume apparently everything people don't like about how he acts and what he says on. The radio doesn't correlate to anything because his resume is hall of fame and it's year after year after year. I know they had a little bit of a down year last year but they still find a way to victory lane. So i don't see the correlation. I think i think it's gonna be fine. Let's finish up here. Stevie on where things are not fine stuart house racing. You mentioned the top. Go back to those odds powered by points. Bet sportsbook when. I tape splash go last week. This was my pick. I thought for sure kevin harvick starting on pole was going to be a no brainer. Can't miss he had some problems. Early on the race. Had some damage till back in the pack and then just just never had it and his teammates. Cole custer said they threw the kitchen sink at it and never ran the top fifteen. All merola wasn't a factor. Chase briscoe wasn't a factor. What do you make. What happened with stewart haas racing and is there cause for concern there at this point while the big concern i have is. They've lost one of their veteran drivers. Clint boyer now in the booth. I bring that up not driving talents. There's nothing new driving talent. 'cause i think all the guys behind the wheel storehouse racing contract the question is i. Don't see how chase briscoe could give you any sort of feedback specific to cup as he's learning the cup series. Not a knock on him. Welcome we'd be in a rookie cole. Custer while he was a winner year ago arguably it's only a sophomore year. He's still learning very quickly..

"To that that they're all around the same age so they sort of look at things. Maybe one things same way. I don't know they're driving styles without looking at the data. I don't know it's a tough question to ask. Because we saw the twenty four and five running up front raising each other where they could have been totally different setups. If nothing like retu- cookies allow smiling at me as analysts going. He has no idea. We were so far different on the spectrum. I think the bigger thing is that now that we have seen this rules package of reduced horsepower and high downforce. They have found the right package for both miami. A track where. You're out of the gas after just a few laps to las vegas. Where i think i heard. Larry max i yesterday brad. Kozlowski hadn't lifted in twenty laps looking at the data. So i only bring that up. Because i don't think it's i honestly don't think driving style is as important as communication style and approach and i can only look at it in my own life right when i want to talk to someone around my age or around my experience. It's very easy for me to communicate to them because we had a lot of the same references. Well when you look at the current driver lineup of hendrik. It doesn't seem like it would be very hard for the four to hang out right. I mean they're all race car drivers. They're all very young. You have one married in. Kyle larson but married very young with a couple of small kids. We have a few single guys but it wouldn't shock me to post cova amaral allowed to go out to roll into a mexican restaurant on one of these races. Look down and see four guys. Sharon chips and salsa again. They should hang out little all the same age. They all work together. They're like like four mates and any other sort of company. Like i know that sounds silly. But that's kind of what i see there right. I mean it's no different. If they were for hard working factory guys that just said. Hey it's break time. And the four would circle around the water cooler. And i think that's that's what i see. Is i see the four of them. Travelling together spending time together sharing meals together. Not because they're supposed to because it's easy and it's comfortable. I could be totally off base. But we'll see. These are the things that i hate about pandemic living because pre pandemic people would be amazed how much i learned from being in the town. I picked on you at the start. You forgot. we're in las vegas on the kitchen one in las vegas on the vegas strip. When drove in and out of the town. You would've remembered right away. It's a little bit of that is the same for me. I learned as much with cars on track and practices. I do spending the week at the racetrack. I walked to the bus lot. See whose kids are playing with whose kids drivers are hanging out with who i go to the local restaurants. I see who's going up dinner to get like you understand people's kind of habits so it's purely a guess but i could see the habit of those four drivers with a little leadership. If i know mr hendrick. He'll nudge them together to. But it wouldn't shock me that those four would hang out. We make observations through moses so to speak and that has been missing in this pandemic existence of trying to cover nascar from afar But one thing that we saw vegas the results sheet. I think pretty much laid it out. Exactly you had car larson. First hendrick chevrolet second. Brad keselowski penske ford as you mentioned. Probably be plus right now third place. Kyle busch joe gibbs racing as you mentioned probably right below. Penske mimi the the one-two-three finishing orders pretty much. The pecking order right now for teams in the garage Listen top ten hendrick car. Penske car gibbs car gibbs car penske car gibbs car gibbs car car penske car. There's your top nine. i mean. Three organizations took the top nine. Yes air jones and tenth bravo. That's a great run for the forty-three. I'm not knocking them. That's outstanding eric. Jones who had a little bit of a bumpy start to the season found a way to put it together to finish a great race. He's in ten. Jt and eleven are cr and twelve those peripheral teams right. They're battling for the top ten. That's where they need to be. Yeah what do you want from three manufacturers three organizations they fill up the top ten. If i asked you who do you think the best drivers are in the garage area. Okay who we missing. Probably chase elliott kevin harvick but those are the guys those are the playoff runs. Those are the ones without practice. You're going to circle on your list. I bet if we will go back to our friends at points but those were probably all of the top eight or nine ten favorite drivers to win this event so there wasn't a lot of shocking results. Inside the inside the town. That lack of practice i think continues to have impacts on kyle busch. Who even though he finished third wasn't happy on the radio during the race. Tv and and talked afterward a lot. About how he. He's going up to salisbury where tracing development headquarters on that simulator two or three times a week to try to make this lack practice working with his new creech. Coochie ben bayshore. That kyle is technically racist kind of saying like the problem that they're having again problem for a third place finisher in the most recent races. They can't get things perfectly correlated between the simulator and real world like. I think he was explaining that. Like hey on the simulator. My car is like six or seven loose and then on the track. It's only a too loose or vice versa. How do they fix that. Kyle busch fix that without having that on-track screens man. You you hope that you can get enough knowledge about whether the so. The tire is sometimes the magic elixir. In the math. The car can be modeled trust me. They can model the car making model. The aerodynamics the loading the car tracks are very accurately modeled. The tire is the area that perhaps is the hardest to model. Because there's so many different factors. I don't want to bore everybody with the details but it would appear that when teams come and go the tire or the style of tire that goodyear brings can have a direct correlation with. Who's good on it. And who is gonna remember there. The shoes we talking about horsepower. Talking about aaron and ms we talked about drivers about pit crews talking about money. Talk about everything in the world. Four things touch the ground. just four. Forget your tires the only thing that text the racetrack those four are are your exact correlation. So i look at it like this. Some drivers get on a set of tires and it's like they're barefoot and they can feel everything underneath. Oh it's very clear whether they're on gravel or on grass around stone either smooth or bumpy other drivers get on the same tire and it's like they're wearing big thick platform shoes on the trampoline..

"Partner Clergyman joining you. Here and Parker Jimmy. Johnson finished his second Sunday Charlotte but then doesn't because of the penalty so and his team recover from something like that knowing they get to go back to in race again. You have to be gutted for them right because you think back to the first daunton rates in their leading the first stage. Get spin out case from Chris. Bushel lapper devastating. We've all talked about how Jimmy in this team. You know have tried to rebuild ever since a couple years ago when they were last accessible end. You just almost rooting for knowing. It's his last season right. And you see this go down. You see them another goon run a lot of speed and they go out there and get disqualified so I really think it has to be disheartening for the team but they can always lean back on we had speed. We had the speed to compete. We were there and that is something that that forty car has not had for many months at a time so I really think you look back that you say all right. We had a lean on. That would ever happen in terms of why we were disqualified. So be it will make. It doesn't happen again but for the team as a whole I know Jimmy talks about the vibe with the team and that the thing you have to think that there are certain. A little bit of positivity logan momentum beans vast donaldson being fast here now they can take that into Wednesday night and hopefully shorter race. You Get up from San From and Maybe we'll see Jimmy Johnson. Probably back victory made love to get your thoughts on Jimmy Johnson. A really you can contemplate that out to his teammate. Chase Elliott as well. I mean chase look like he was GonNa win the last two races and comes up short. So what are your thoughts on Johnson and really chase Elliott has? Well Yeah I think a good takeaway here. Mardi enter sports as a whole has been fast. Not just those two guys. But obviously Alex Bowman William Byron also being in the Mixture Darlington and Charlotte ANC. Clearly Hendrick has lost no speed from the first four races year relate brought up this new. Camaro seems like all the chevrolets have been running better and I think you know departure. Point that bodes well for Jimmy. Johnson's he tries to end this three year. Winless streak and I thought it was interesting entertainer. Sports chose not to appeal penalty. And you kind of wonder when you have felt like this would affect. The team is something that they're doing with the speed but none the other. Hendrick cars Deigned and I. It doesn't seem like Jimmy seem and clip Daniels's CARUCCI Worried about it so I think going forward. You're going to see these teams. Continue to run fast especially on the lower nasty speedway's so Parker Chase Elliott and Alan guts us and you just take away the fact that we've run up front we've shown the speed the winds will come eventually and not let us get you down. What's happened the last two weeks? Well it's tough right because there's times in cop season especially because it's so long where when you had that speed you WanNa take advantage of it right. There's that element of you feel like. Sometimes Oban were were missing are shot like we're this fast. GotTa take advantage of we gotta get Victory Lane and you don't want it doesn't go your way deadly you down. But it's the same thing as a forty eight and I know it sounds so crochet to say. Hey Go back under street but people need to understand speed is the hardest thing to come by. And how you make it. How you get to that point and find. It is such an arduous process. That when it's there you can't help but feel positive that you had it but when it comes down to getting the d'alene takes more than just feet right. It takes execution. It takes not having issues. Altercations like Kim in Kabul. Had Donald Darlington. It takes on your way. So really. Just gotTA buckle down and say all right what we need to continue doing to make sure we're maximizing the execution because the speed is there and take advantage of this time because as the Cup series of numerous times. You might be three months from now. We're talking about landlord. The speed Gopher Motor motorsports so they've definitely want to take advantage of that time right now and you have to think that they're probably pushing very hard on the team. That did take advantage of things at Charlotte in the Coca Cola. Six hundred was Brad Kozlowski. Winds up winning the race by not pitting there on that last chance in the final restart so want to ask you where things stand in in your mind as best as you can tell between rank. Kazlauskiene team penske right now. Obviously the one driver that has not signed moving forward for team penske and I know that came up. The contract came up. And what's going to happen in the future in the Post Race Press Conference Villa Sandy? Yea DID MARDIAN and Brad Keselowski said nothing. New to report there in terms of negotiations with team penske. I've heard that there are some casual discussions going on. Maybe more so than the word during the the covid nineteen layoff an active. But it doesn't seem like there's anything imminent I think there's two sides of the bracket allows you discussion right now. Certainly his new crew chief Jeremy Bones in him are clicking well with that Coca Cola. Six hundred win getting another major records. Lasky seems very happy with the chemistry in the way. That team is jailed just a few races into the twenty twenty season. But there is going to be a I. Think a little bit of a distraction here if there's no movement on that contract front because there are obviously other free agents looming out there. This is one of the hottest driver free agent markets that we've seen in the NASCAR Cup series in years rags lousy now. Probably at the top of that list with Kyle Larson being pretty much. I the equation at this point. So I there's a lot going on there but there's not a lot that we can really say at this point because you know whatever is happening behind closed doors and I think it's very much between Brags Lousy Roger Penske. As far as what's going to happen there are long term of I. Guess Right now I think I'd I'd say I'd be surprised if he returns penske next year. Wow so parker out you work that as a driver I mean. Been in those situations where it's kind of a vote of no confidence right. You don't have a contract moving forward yet. You're still trying to win for your race team. But you've got also make sure that you can have a job and in twenty twenty one and that's always a tricky thing and I think Brad you saw his comments you know being so public about the situation that's normally to me a signal of. Hey I want people to know I'm talking. I'm looking entertaining offers. Because that tells me your. There's an element of indecision there. There's an element of this isn't being decided by any means. It's it can absolutely need said be a distraction at times but I think for most drivers especially one of his power his level. You know he's GonNa use that as motivation. He's GonNa use that as ways to sort of buck down. Focus on himself and say all right. What's make me the most attractive property possible to different owners out there so I can get the deal that I really want. But there's no doubting that when you're in that situation there's you know the element of an especially right now when you look at what's happened with Kobe. Nineteen in some of the ramifications through the economy when about sponsors trying to line those up those discussions are GonNa get longer than that can really put a little bit emphasis in China or make it a little bit worse. So there's a there's definitely a lot of moving parts these deals but when you're that bogle about it that out at singles me that you know there definitely is by no means decided. Hey nate real quick I if I recall the last contract negotiation between his laskey and team penske Brad got way out in front of it and said Hey. I'm listening to everybody. Come talk to me. My door is open. Do you think he gets there in the summer months between these two. I think a good Marty and you know you bring up that last time. Hendrick motorsports add an opening coming on the number eighty eight Dale Juniors retiring in twenty seventeen. The last time. 'cause last contract was up in. Kazlauskas like didn't close the door on that at all while he was negotiating with penske Emmy and he very much kept his options open. And it. Certainly..

"Alex Bowman Hendrick motorsports back on the show. Alex welcome back the NASCAR live. Yeah thanks for having me. So you're a winner at Talladega at least on the virtual Sunday afternoon. I liked your tweet after the checkered flag that you don't understand how this could happen. Have you had a chance to process it? And what indeed did happen. Yeah I'm I'm pretty surprised I think a lot of other people are pretty surprised as well I have definitely been on the not taking this super serious side of things when it comes die racing so To to get a win on their with is surprising for me for sure. I Iran one practice race for like twenty five laps all week and Called it good and and Kinda Senate on Sunday so Cloud to get hundred motorsports and other win. I think William is much more talented than I am when it comes to the virtual thing and Just you know. Glad to get US three in a row but Had A lot of fun like I said. I'm confused on on how happened. I guess it got Super Lucky but ZAC that it worked out so how much I rarely experience do. You Have D. Even have a chance to win. Things were in regular life have a chance to do that or is it just one of the things that you've hopped on board with through the stoppage that we've been going through. Yeah you know once we. I think when dirt came out on IRA saying. I completely stopped running the pavement. I racing stuff So it's I'm definitely not a guy with a bunch of experience and You know you look guys like William that that have a big background in it and and have done quite a bit I'm definitely on the opposite side of that spectrum. Well it didn't look that way on Sunday. Congratulations it was a lot of fun to watch. It was as intense as it normally is. I'm sure that from from your perspective. It is a lot different in simulation then real life.

Blaney, Keselowski, Logano detail Roger Penske's Hall of Fame pursuit of perfection

"You would be hard pressed to find anyone more respected in the garage area than Roger Penske says competitor and friend Rick Hendrick of Hendrick motorsports. As one of my best friends, I have nothing but respect for him what he's accomplished is unbelievable role. It's unbelievable to see someone that can win and Formula one and and open wheel and and went all the championships. And do the things he thought I don't know how he doesn't. He's a perfectionist. Then as again, I I admire him in. Poll them in the high regard the motor racing network. Congratulates the newest member of the NASCAR hall of fame Roger Penske. All three of Roger Penske's Cup series drivers drove to victory lane in two thousand eighteen and one of those drove to a championship Joey Logano in its tenth full time season in the Cup series is going to win the two thousand eighteen zero man, I honestly, I I would have thought he'd been inducted into the hall of fame along before this after seeing what he's given to our sport into our community. You know, I think it's one of the best kept secrets in our sport. Sometimes you forget when you watch these videos of all the race ones. You forget that he built a lottery strikes. You forget that you know, his whole businesses built them on racing. You know, he's here we had our fiftieth anniversary of NBN racing years ago. Now, you know, so what a great honor for him to to be able to to be inducted into. You know, what is the biggest award? You can get in our sports. So I'm so excited to be there. Into watch it and to be part of that. And it couldn't come at a better time after you win a championship. And then you cap it off with being inducted into the NASCAR hall of famers is that it's well deserved for a man that has a big heart. But also won't you won't ever.

"Of course, he sat out the last eleven races of the year. Again. This is the placate Eric Merola bubble Wallace, Betty motor sports. Yes. He was a rookie. But only had three top tens averaged twenty four point five place finish and was twenty eighth in the standings. Then this one is greater you to William Byron to Hendrick motorsports. Yes. He was the rookie of the year. But he was kind of the rookie of the year by default. Four top tens average finish of twenty two point one twenty third in the standings, not even close to making the playoffs like all three of his other teammates did. And then Matt cans at the rouse racing supposed to be development move. They didn't develop too much. He scored two top tens. He had averaged finish of twentieth. He was thirty second in the standings. But remember he only ran fifteen races. So, but I in my opinion, he was no better than Trevor Bayne in that car. So I'll go first on this one. I think it's super easy while it's not super easy for me. For me. It's easy. It's easy as hell. I'm you know, I think I have to go with with Casey Cain to LeVine family racing. I know that he was saying step back, but it wasn't supposed to be the year that ended his career and it ended up doing it. But I, but I feel bad picking him because it wasn't all his fault. I mean, obviously had you know, medical issue going on that that would only affect them in the second half of racism was really kind of taking a toll on him. But he did nothing to move that program forward. For me. I can understand where you're coming from. But for me, it's belongs depending. Casey kane. I can't say it's the worst move because he was on a downward trend in LeVine family racing was kind of what a downward twin to or stagnated trend. I should say. Yup. William Byron's, a rookie. I can't fault them on that a rookie with a new manufacturer body and everything like that..

"Eighty was working for hendrick motorsports and and i was working for bill davis and of course i think most people know the rest that story the right history he came home one day and ask about my contract with ford or our bill and said that jimmy johnson the the jimmy johns it used to work for hendrick motorsports not the driver uh that was running hendrick motorsports and said that he wanted to sit down mian so did rick kindred dandy told in a way that it he he said he had trouble convincing you i think he said he had actually called john beckford to convince you know this is real this is really rick andric wants to talk to you about maybe driving one of his garhi hours in in all of that may have is having a great year i was also really enjoy working for for bill davis four did you given me an opportunity and so i was a little bit torn at that time that i didn't want to uh i i i've always felt like young loyalty is a big part of of of who i am men in part of what my parents taught me with racing and i i didn't want to uh you know to ruin that but at the same time when it's an opportunity like that go cup race in its with rick kendrick i may i had added i had a couple offers one with kale yarborough uh dad tuan you know hit his team was lou at that time was really not not one of the top teams in so a sort of got talked out of that iit's not tested for him uh but i i didn't have gone that route am you know but but there was no real offers on the table yes bill davis was talking about going cup racine and wanted to go cup racing but.

"Um but not realtime you can never see real time during the race and that is not a change you can't see real time during the race um but that data they're now going to hand out to anyone so premium motorsports were bk race will not be curious me will be around after next week um but anybody front row any of those guys they can see the telemetry data from joe gibbs racing from hendrick motorsports from all the big name drivers and kabushemeye's now pissed off about that and unlike the whole young drivers thing where he can control that himself in stop bitch and in don't be crybaby move on i actually agree with him on this because what his argument is i've worked my entire life to get to a championship level to be able to compete for championships every single year and how do i do that i go fast tado ago fast i've spent my entire career learning how to go faster where led off the gas where to get on the break where to get back on the gas how far to turn the wheel and what lines to run and the logic can see of course on tv v but he saying now anybody any young kid can come along you shouldn't said young kid he should just said anybody anybody can come along and if they know how to read that data they can figure out exactly where i'm lifting exactly where and breaking exactly where i'm rolling through the corner exact were where i'm picking this throttle back up and they can try to emulate that without having to learn how to do it themselves and i agree with him on that i don't think i think that you're driving style is your driving style i mean it would be like it will be like forcing the best pitchers in baseball to have to teach all the other pitchers how they throw their best pitches you know i mean there's so much to those skills that you don't see that's part of what makes a driver good that i tend to agree with columnist when i don't think they should hand out information out to just anybody.

"How this how these guys handle it in asia rights um you know the other three drivers uh at hendrick motorsports have combined for zero career cup wins um and so it it it is a new era at hendrick motorsports i think it's fair to say that even with jimmy there and um you know with the with the new drivers with the change with with chase getting moving over into the nine with the new car with the camaro um with some of the leadership changes that they've made this this past season i mean it is a uh it is a new and different hendrick motorsports um is this going to be new as in better or is this going to be new as in new coq and he yelled at ever rather hyatt so obviously with hendrick motorsports his track record you don't expect it to be like new coq but uh it will be interesting to view you know this organization again at you know for as much as i am intrigued with william byron i think this this organization intrigues me because i don't know they've not gone through is much change um eight in a way probably sense when they were forced to after the after the plane crash and uh especially with with the executives there but um i don't know if they've gone through his much which is overall uh in the last fifteen twenty years easy there how do you see plana killing it's it's interesting that dustin you know the way you say it there were it is a new hendrick motorsports an and we haven't seen this much change take place at that company in one time it's always been you know maybe it one driver here there or.

"In the car with great fourtime champion and legend jeff gordon ways in i'm extremely excited about his movement it's happening within the whole sport but especially here hendrick motorsports to be able to blend seventime champion his experience to jimmy johnson with this young talented gerber drivers i think it's very exciting for hindered as well as for the sport in general so i'm definitely looking forward to seeing the flames on this race car in this 24 car and i just think william is his rise to vis level i've never seen anything like it anybody get their faster than he has and it's because he's earned it is incredible talent it's going to be a lot of fun to watch chase elliott is sliding into the new napa number nine car great to have the nabucco is back on i i didn't realize this until the day will for five years starting next year which is pretty wild and no you know what what they've done for me and in it in a really how far that partnership is dropped me so appreciate their willingness to change it up in a car turned out great and all cars a great so i'm excited to see him on track his dad bill elliott has quite proud of his son and his old number nine coming back to the racetrack to look at the whole generation i mean it was a great opportunity for us to precisely drought kale's car the last couple of years and that opportunity but for me it's it's fun to see him in the noncore i grew up gagro graviton that all years and then you won't short tracks drawback through the nationwide than expanded he then i'll to draw the twenty four cups a day it'll be fun i think the fans will really be well received.

"Are the newer foe probably can't understand what the number five meant but the older folk probably do now now you know and and maybe that's i don't know maybe that's i don't know if that's part of it or not but yeah i am still so kind of obsessed with trying to find out if they were superstitious stupor stitches about the five pretty sure there i think so i'm many sports have superstitions i'm sure that somebody there may be maybe ever kendrick himself on march so it's not weather's richard petty thing because this is just as fascinating to me maybe even more fascinating then the whole number juggling overed hendrick motorsports because the implication sierra huge and the questions that the rumors race are just as big as well um the onagain offagain smithfield thing appears for the moment to be on again that smithfield is interested in coming back to richard petty racing the 43 car in two thousand eight team beyond that everything seems to be up in the air the rumor that came out was that richard petty of racing or motor sports wherever they go richard beattie motorsports was going to merge or is going the merge with richard childress racing therefore giving them what i guess it will be a fourcar team again or lease a threecar team um and that they would switch to chevy in the process that all sounds a bit crazy except that richer betty motorsports has not renewed the lease on the shop that they're using for next year and it's not like between now and the end of the year they're going to make a deal for a shop move all their stuff over ramp up production and get the car's gonna they're right up against the new road the the time line right now if they wanted to do that the fact that they're not lens a ton of credibility to the idea that they're headed to rcr.
