"We're getting ready now for lindau. Get back into this lyndale. You're going to be on the road. Linda four and three your foreign to tell us a little bit of bow day. Yeah lyndale coming off you know. Last year they were finalised lawson state championship. They graduated a lot of seniors but they've done a great job of reloading their planning a lot of new players but they are really good football team. You know the record. Road misleading. the foreign three. They've had a chance to win. You know there are three losses. Weren't on this. They're three and ellen district and they've had a chance they had a chance to win all three games. They lost came down. The fourth quarter and the other team may plays and they didn't execute if you watch the district games though they're executing the dr not making those mistakes they're not turning the ball over. You know you watch chapel hill henderson game against lindo in those first half's Lyndale caused a lot of turnovers and was able to build some big leads in the first half of both of those games. And then we're able to hold on a second half of both of them and just because they're executing really high level of not turning the ball over. They're very well coached and offensively. You know that their quarterback is one of those retires from last year number. Seventeen sam peterson. He is playing exceptionally well. The running about thirteen tops game during district and kind of relying on him with its feet amazon. They're receiving core is very experienced all four. Their top receivers retires. And so that's the experience of their team They're the pensively their defense aligned. Their defense last band put pressure on the quarterbacks again. You look at our district games that that's been the difference. They've they've they've been generate pressure with four and you know are secondary is younger than we have one or turner in their secondary. Both are linebacker younger players. But they're the a line being able to generate pressure with four kinda rattle. Quarterbacks has been really the difference for defensively They vote their best player. Linebacker number thirty three last year cold wiedeman to at the end at far started district. And that's a big difference And he he's played really well there other deepens in number nine nine. It's also a really good player..

But my my son in law's operating the crane put nestle lights so they don't get put put up fast enough. We all blame you for your son. Your son i'll the quick enough on the other hand if he gets them up quick enough to give them a tip. All right kate. So let's do this. Let's do this last week. He played henderson like always. You've got some players that really stood out. Tell us about the players of the week last week. Yeah first off. We're really proud of the effort. We thought our kids played so much better. Friday is harrison noted. The week for chapel hill gave herself chance to win in the second half. And that's what we've total and these games. Can we get done and we gotta go to work as a coaching staff. And make sure that we get these games. We've found ways to win them. But we've told our kids to p when you're playing the type of people in this district which are all high quality teams and teams that. Have chances to make everybody in. Our district has a chance to make a deep run in the playoffs. They get in applying teams like that. You know the the goal is to play well enough to give yourself a chance to win and say that because you know you don't be if both teams point good. You're not going to be a good team in the first half so with all. We did that against henderson. Now play well enough to give yourself a chance to win. We might go back and look at games like that. There's three four five place that if they go another way..

It sounds again like a very similar skiing to what you've seen to what you ron. Yes and so. We should really resent too. Many questions is just matching up with the personnel correctly. Brought it is versus. I thought a lot of quick screens. They they they could try to get the ball of their hands alive so is very similar to what we do. What we've been play all right. Well i know that you've gone through all of your film and everything and you get ready and you have your word of the week in your keys for this week. Let us know what those are. are the week. This week is respond and we discussed with the my monday. What the difference in responding and reacting is and we got a spine. Yo i found a slide went over with them. You know when we react. That's an immediate defense mechanic mechanism and were just reacting based on the situation most time when you react you know. It has no long term effects. You're not looking at what's best for bodies just an immediate decision and but what we respond We are doing what's best for everybody involved And so that's what we gotta do. This week we got respond to what's happening We got to respond to where we're at again last week in the past We we can't let that one bad game define our season so we got to respond to move forward So that's cow award a week Know are keys to victory are again. This was on their last week but on there again because what they do. We got to contain the quarterback We can't let him extent plays hardest with his legs On offense we and we've had this four but you know it..

"It takes a little bit for that. Come at us and it does all right so Yeah not the result that you want. But i thought again. A lot of positives came to light last week after that i First few minutes of the game where our chapel hill guide out you guys came back in and played them pretty well the rest of the game. I know score guys really stood out again. Jason kramer before we get away from that one talk about that. Catch in the endzone on the sideline where he Double clutched at managed to keep his concentrates. Yeah that that was a great catch and he did a great job of few. Watch it on them. Great job how hop pointing the ball and then kind of got kind of lost it in the competition and then kept his eyes on it and then drove his toe just a great athlete at play. Great great concentration played. He's he's he's another kid. That is not played football in this offense ever till this year and so he he's really thrived and he's still has he hasn't even got close to reach in his limit because he he's still learning on the run and learning how to run her out how to get open but he's worked really hard every day in practice you know we're we're glad he's playing all right so you get to come home this week to the comfortable confines of bruce field henderson anderson lines coming in their three one and not played district game yet tell us about interesting coach has just like probably replay this for the next five weeks. They're really good football team One of the one of the better football teams and in class four a division one again. Everybody in our district is and we feel like we are too so every week is going to be a battle and competition and as there's no easy there's no there's no teams you just say we're going to go there and win you gotta chant. We feel like we have a chance to win each one tweet. If you don't play well you're also got a great chance to so henderson. Presents that opportunity. They they are a very physical football team last year. Be honest you know against we win that game and they they hit us in the mouth and we didn't respond real. Well we kind of we kinda turned it down so that's kinda challenged our kids this week. They're gonna play physical that's how they play offensively they're spread. Offense quarterback is a super talented kid. Makes kobe robinson. He's the head coaches signed as a new haven new staff there. He came from crowley..

NFL Wide Receiver Rankings 2021
"Football is right around the corner today. We're going through our consensus wide receiver. Reggie everybody likes wide receiver. Don't they wide receiver right gang. Judge go this is a big one guy. You can win your drafts with a lot of these wide. Receivers that we're about to talk about even if you drop them round one and round two and round three. Yes you certainly can. But we'll get to some. They can get much later. That are going to provide a lot of value in two thousand twenty one year. Yeah i can honestly say that. The one draft strategy to draft chinese. I've never taken a quarterback around one. And i have not taken a wide receiver in round one of any of my drought so far even super flex even supervise just getting. We just got some breaking news on sleeper that darryl henderson was injured in practice not return man would that be a huge injury to the rams funk season is funky town yeah davy jones. One of 'em jake fog or just a staffer. The woods cup higby season all adds to a man there on. Oh i hit. He's not gonna do me dirty two years in a row. That was a a when you're saying he is buy his jersey. If you finish for you. Oh i think i have to. That's too bad center role egg. I mean i. I don't own for that would be the economic shared the name first letter of the last name. I think it's a lot gusting at speaking injury. In preseason at all the things what are some preseason thoughts on wide receivers anything standing out or any injuries standing out anything. We should be on the lookout for as we get closer to the season. Starting all it's been kind of interesting like if you go to. Espn and just look. At the wide receivers. Half of them are listed as questionable. We're still a couple of weeks away from the season. So it's not overly alarming at this point but there are some injuries that are more alarming than others. That will get shortly. But let's start with our top wide. Receivers are we have devante adams tyreek hill stefan big calvin ridley the andrea hopkins and aj brown rounding out our top six. Which one of these guys do you wanna talk about. I think we could talk about devante. Adams tyreek hill. Just be as. I think i flip flop though is at least thirty times this off season gone back and forth between the two especially with rogers coming back. I don't wanna put davante adams at number one. You know contract year roger. They're going to go the big last dance. He's going to have all of the targets that he wants think he can get two hundred targets in a season. I don't but i think he's going to pace wide receivers when it comes to target. So i have devante adam just my number one. As well i think the touchdown potential. He is the favourite to lead the league in receiving touchdowns this year. Aaron rodgers coming back. That chemistry is as good as any quarterback wide receiver in the entire league. Yeah i had tyreek hill number one until aaron rodgers. I made it official that he was coming back and then davante adams shot right back up to number one. I have devante at number two tyreek at one. Like i said i flip flop all over but even as projections. I have devante adams at one hundred and sixty five targets. And i think that's conservative to be honest. I think it is still i. I got about one seventy five. Yeah i don't think he comes anywhere near two hundred I have team range. That one one sixty one seventy i. I also kind of a little bit worried. I think this offense could be worse than it was last year and cobb amari rounders are two factors that they did not have last year. That are legitimate receiving options. I do think that devante adam. I'm not gonna say this. I think he could actually Kind of disappoints fantasy owners this year. I'm not projecting it that way. But i see the path to it happening this year. Unlike in yourself.

"All right so tell us who you are. And what. You do so jeffrey allen. Hindi cinema creative based in harlem new york Team about ten. We take one. Everything from product design to content creation has the european knowing so far. Ooh the years actually ran pretty good. We actually had a nice growth year not in terms of state business. Businesses always been pretty standard even when we went through the trials and tribulations that code. But i think i broaden young folks for the first time and made it official last year so we had some growing pains in terms of people just learning how to be creative in like sort of corporate settings knock corporate setting so that was very new to a lot of us and having agency. Don't like that this year has been. I think an extension of that banana. Everything's opening when the team is definitely more seasons. Surround more exciting because of things i know we can take off so it's been pretty good. I mean i'm i'm pretty sure. People listening can hear the birds in the background. Sounds like you're like some ideal spot right now which is good which is good. I think after the year no no no after after the year. I think all of us have had a little bit of mother. Calling out Crony Capitalism by BLM Co-Founder Patrisse Cullors, Sen. Bernie Sanders
"Responding to your invitation for left the call about the the L N leader who's behaving like a capitalist. Yeah, please do Okay, I agree with your criticism, but I think it's trivial. My criticism of her as a Marxist, I think has profound. The reason that your I think your criticism is trivial. Is because in exposing her hypocrisy, you're showing that using that, actually no more hypocritical than conservative businessman who chased government purchase orders. I never heard of one turning one down because it will increase the national debt. And I never heard what was one turning one down because it will grow govern. Have you Okay, Jim? Fair enough. That's fair criticism and I do appreciate what you're in Reno, you said. I'm in Henderson. And that's my trivia. Okay, if you want to hear the profound markets wait, wait. Hold on, because we're we don't want to cut you off, and I have a break coming up in about a minute. But I want to counter that. I don't agree with you at all. What we're talking about here is allegiance and fidelity to principles. Conservatives like myself. Call out crony capitalism all the time, Jim. Matter of fact, we even have a name for it. You know what it is? Crony capitalism. Some people call it crap. It'll is, um I prefer crony capitalism because that's not actually capitalism and capitalism really isn't an ISM. Capitalism is effectively an agreement on a price instead of instead of rationing, the ability to trade your labor for a wage and the ability to own private property. I believe in those principles for you and me. So conservatives suggesting somehow conservatives, um give a wink and a nod to crony capitalism is inauthentic, And that's not a genuine criticism because it's not true. No real conservative, I know puts a head nod to that. Secondly, the woman claims to be a Marxist and claims to have principles as well. But doesn't live her life according to those principles and criticizes others who live by alternate principles like capitalism, So I don't get what your criticism is. We were basically what I'm getting at here is we have fidelity to our cause. Yet Marxist don't have Fidelity, either. There is. Bernie Sanders owns three homes.

"So two hundred thirty seven interviews with high-performing working moms and dads. And then i looked into research a bunch of other disciplines particularly neuroscience which i have a tiny bit of a background in and i discovered after coating interviews and looking into this research that parenthood win supported and that's critical if apparent has enough support that they're likely to unlock these five critical capacities which are emotional intelligence. Courage efficiency and productivity enhanced purpose and the ability to collaborate and all of those skills are critical for success in the modern workplace. You know when. I went on to interview the women who became my first co founder. She was the original. Vp of hr twitter. It started a whole bunch of programs for parents. There and i told her. This is what i've discovered in my interviews and encoding them with the data scientists in looking at mineral science. She dropped her fork on the plate. Instead of my god we spend more money than i care to admit training our leaders to develop those skills. And you're telling me. Parenthood possibly more than anything else than them and i said yes but for the most part people didn't care about parents in the workplace until it hit from our experience so i started this community founders. Their breakup is the theme of the album. But as he emphatically says this is not a break up album there are no maudlin moments or rule recriminations to be heard no instead he turns is critical. Eye on himself is past mistakes in ways that he wasn't always a good partner. Much of the music is about owning up to his failings and trying to be better rather than an album. Bitter animosity and vengeance road is packed with soulful songs of redemption and hope it comes through on his albums recent single little bit of love a song about unconditional acceptance of both himself and others in his new song. The you know that doesn't mean every case works out just the way everybody wanted to. It doesn't always work like that. Life is messy right. The law is messy this. It improves the chances. And everybody's on the same page trying to work forward. In fact you and i were talking before the podcast. One of the signs of the number of cases but this kind of interaction is the fact that there was a recent grant That was approved for the help center. And then the county agreed to pick up parts so that a fulltime deputy can be stationed at maggie's house that's exactly right. That was several months ago through collaboration. Hung specifically with sheriff's department and they'll moves that diving that investigator that is specifically trained. And because you have to understand that we even with the municipalities that training is not available for some of our smaller ones that even some of the larger ones. So having it funneled through this have gets to a bigger bang for your buck having someone specialized at it. And it's like you said it's another great example of orgnisations working together here in henderson county. And that's brand new and like you said that's an resource is not just available for the county but for all new municipalities in the in the county because look. The truth is a lot of our smaller police departments. You know they're they're very busy doing regular police work or they're out there. Patrolling the streets and doing those kinds of things and a long term child abuse. Investigation takes a lotta time a lot of effort and like you said a lot of training and the smaller departments. Just don't have the resources for that and it's not their fault. It's just the way it is. They don't have the resources for that so to have someone Likely now have at maggie's house to provide that is just another great thing. Yeah it is like you said it's it's one of the great things about being here in henderson county all right so before we get off of this. I need to make a couple of plugs all right number one. Coming up april seventeenth is the help center. Shootout jails abuse. Yes sir vent out at five. H shooting ston. And it's going to be a great event raising money for additional services. Four maggie's.

Notable Developments on the College Basketball Coaching Carousel Scuttlebutt
"A lot of movement on the coaching carousel. Over the past couple of days the big. One of course was indiana firing archie miller. After four seasons. We talked about that on a previous podcast. So go find it. We're not going to spend any time on that here but let me walk you through the other notable developments richard patino out at minnesota and as up tuesday morning. He's the new coach at new mexico. State has quote parted ways with steve. Prohm depaul finally took. Dave laid off the hot seat list. Boston college hired earl. Grant penn state hired mike castrucci berry dead leg spin a pretty good right now. It's spinning man. Yeah listen we give the. We are gearing up for this tournament. We got we got more than forty eight hours till. We're gonna tip the first game here so as expected. We've had some movement on the carousel. So we'll let's get into a little bit of this This scuttle but here kind of take it job by job. Best job openings indiana. Let's kind of go in order. I guess second best job. That's open. I would say iowa state is a better job than minnesota steve. Prohm gets fired late monday night. His jamie pollard was on the selection committee so he traveled back as he should have to meet with promo person and do what he what needed to be done You and i both seven the podcast in january. We expected steve prone to return next season. But we also didn't expect iowa state to never win a game like he just got to an irreversible point. so he's done. He put out a classy statement on tuesday morning. And i don't know whether or not steve prohm will land somewhere else head. Coaching position this coaching cycle but he will be a head coach again. He did take iowa state to three inch tournaments he was really good prior to that at murray state and certainly qualified for. It's just a matter of Is there anything out there. That he would be offered or anything out there that he would want as for the job. The candidates we're early. But i'm told that this is certainly a coach that you know quite well as well i'm told jamie pollard definitely will be considering. Unlv head coach. Tj burger near the top of his list. I can't say that he is the favorite. I just think that it's objectively true. That tj also burger will be under consideration for the iowa state job along the likes of. You're going to hear puerto moser connected to multiple jobs on this podcast because let's face it especially if he wins at least one tournament game. He's just a hot name. And he's going to be attached to iowa st paul minnesota. I i don't know if you'd be a favorite for state. But i think his name makes sense. I think utah. State's craig smith might make sense and then a high. I do have a wildcard one. Uab's andy kennedy has gone to the sec. Good job at ole miss. He's just one year and at uab but he had he had a really good year. In fact i think he won more games in his first season. This past season than just about anyone. Maybe all of all of the first year coach coaches. So i think that's a fact no first year coach at a new program. One more games this season than ak i. It's just i'm lobbying out. There is a name that should be considered. And then i did see fran for shila tweet this and i do. I do think there's something to it. Like a baylor is a one seed could be in the final four. Hey first time since bill henderson all that good stuff tang is a is a high level power conference assistant that is deserving of an opportunity would come at a power conference level. I don't know. But i think it's only a matter of time before jerome tank. Its job as well. So i'm just tossing him in knows the league as potentially someone that They should consider or at least at the very least interview sets an initial pool of

"T takes division. Emergency management calls his. Hey we got a team. Can you take us friday. And we immediately began working through our list we have had a bank of whereas the backup a little bit. The fcc being limited to a hundred we had an individual coordinating but for this military event. We've had five people making call. We have an actual call bank of individuals calling the last two days to build a nuff interest from our list because our list was up to about thirty four hundred dating back to the middle of january so many of these individuals had already received vaccinations and no longer needed to be on there. So we've been running through those older listings. Which as you said you'd gotten there and now we're getting into the meat but that one is particularly targeted four sixty five and older. This is a part of the. Save our seniors program shirt that the governor had announced. So how many spots are there in. Have you filled them. All no have not what we had a capacity of five hundred or the military clinic. Right now we have. Yesterday we ran through one thousand names on the list and we're only able to get eighty that either said yes or no. I've already had my we had. We had eighty say yeah. They still neither shot wreck. Eighty people and that is continuing today so some of those on the list. That were far back. They've already been taken care of so we'll moving forward and we're hoping as the list continues to grow as at has you'll you'll be more in line with individuals that hey yeah just signed two days yeah right. So that's what we're working on that if we cannot ri what we do is our limit is five hundred for this one but what we will do is thursday afternoon as we get closer. We'll be able to tell Tedium hey this is how many we have but as we put this up. We're talking wednesday afternoon. I can turn around. And i can go and say.

"Here which is what led us to the. We'd take monday. I was lucky enough. I had put my name on that list along time ago. When it first came out we talked about the list here on the podcast so i put my name on the list pretty quick but i got called the call for mondays. mondays clinic. And it was for the madonna vaccine right And it went really well. It was a hundred hundred. Vaccinations were given now from what i understand. This is what's going to be important to our listeners. You know the hope is that they're going to be more of these clinics with the county and Family circle of care. Yes going into like maybe next week week after. Yes that is why. Wait with the monday clinic. We had our meetings in our discussions is that we would do a soft opening and take a number of one hundred and run through the process of it is right and then make sure that the process flows well and to use it as we said as i soft opening to make sure our methods were correct and would work will also give Fcc an opportunity to work with our people out at the senior citizens building and the fairgrounds and the it was really you very well through. It went very well. It was yeah. There was no problems at all. I mean and what was what we had hoped to do and still are going to continue. Working toward is that we start that process moving up the amount of individuals and it again based on vaccine availability. Moving up so that we can bring more of those here. Hopefully we can be doing one. A week is what we're hoping for all right and so when you do those There's gonna come from that list correct until that list is empty. Isn't coming from that list. Tell us how you can get on that list now. I'm gonna put a link to the list at sign up in in the notes for the show but tell us how we can get on the list. Go to henderson. Dash county dot com and that is the henderson county website. And if you'll look up in the at the red banner. There is a tab that says kobe nineteen information. Click on that and that will take you to a page. That has several links on there is the net hath sign up on that page and then there is the henderson county. Believe it says dsl henderson county dsa. Chess sign up. Click on that and take you right to it. Same location where we've tracked all of our information and it's and it's simply a google form. Do you still want it. Are you available on monday. Right and nats halloween. It's very simple well in that. That process is exactly what has rolled into the upcoming events. So let's talk about that real quick this friday There is going to be a vaccination event at the fairgrounds that involves the united states. Army the national guard national guard. This is that mobile pop up clinic that no we had long awaited for. It was very interesting because as we were just wrapping up and getting all the details laid out for this mondays clinic last friday at four pm..

"That's a region that includes tyler and longview and almost a million people hundred and thirty nine out of a million people down from six eighty. One i think was in january. Yes but let's let's move on to vaccinations because everybody's really interested in and you know for the most part when i see what when the messages i'm getting the questions i'm getting There are still some people who were a little. I don't wanna say anti vaccine. They're just not sure about this particular vaccine because of how fast it came out the lack of testings but most people are asking. When are we going to be able to get it right and what it seems to me is. Things are speeding up a lot. They are when you have Johnson and johnson vaccine rolling out. That's pretty much going to be a game changer. As far as individuals inoculated is mirroring. Almost exactly in time and scope as to the rollout of the testing it took about three months from the initial testing processes to begun before you really got city the benefits of it in rural east texas. And that is what is happening with the vaccination as you see it. The rural areas run a little. Bit behind what you see on the national news or in the local news and the more metropolitan areas as said thirteen thousand. Inaugurations has put us Riding line with all of our surrounding counties it has been a process that as the same with testing very slow to get ramped up. we had For us what was it. I'd like january. The six believe when texas division of emergency management and the texas department of state health services contacted. Oh say hey on a phone call. Will you be able to stand up a clinic and if you can please begin operating list in which we did which had grown up to about thirty three hundred on our list. Which is everyone knows. There wasn't it. The phone call never came or had not come at that point and we began to find other methods to brain a vaccination clinic style..

"That's their right. that's right. They are allowed to do that just like they require you to wear a shirt and shoes they wear require you to wear a mask But the governor has removed those restrictions as of today and the good news. Is that as as we look at our numbers man. It's been a long time since we've looked this. Good hospitalizations the hospitalization metric. That we've looked at for so long has not been this low sense jiang sorry. July seventh pre run up july fourth run-up. You know where to thirty nine as of yesterday and it has not been that low since june july. Twenty twenty so we're back to the level. We were before the thirst. That's right during the summer or shall we say late. Summer in the september lull. We only got down to one hundred and fifty one in the hospital. It was only a drop of about thirty three thirty four percent in the tsa compared to the state that had dropped about eighty percent. Will this time. We are just a few decimal points away from an eighty percent drop from our most recent highs and that one thirty nine puts us even below what we were mid you laugh. So basically. what we're saying is and we have used the hospitalization metric because number one is the easiest one to feel confident that the number is correct right number to give us a better indicator how sick the community is because at one time we had all of these people who were getting positive tests if you remember not showing any kind of symptoms and so you know we might have. Hey you had twenty five positive tests today yet but was anybody really sick and so we started looking at hospitalizations because that could tell us how sick the community or the area really was. Try egos as the hospitalizations when you could extrapolate and say well. There's more sickness in the community right. And you could it gave you a metric that not only. Could you better understand your your community. It would then let you see how you fit in across the state how your community your regions in the state and where we stand right now is pretty much as good as it's been since all this really got going. That's right it's really something to see because breaking that one hundred fifty barrier asked saw it was the first line of resistance in we got below that holding keeping my fingers crossed that we even continue to go further all right so one of the things i think we wanna make sure that we tell people. Listen i know some of you folks. You know the whole idea of the mask. The mask goes beyond what you can bear. Let's keep social distancing as much as we can. Let's keep making sure we wash our hands. Keep using hand sanitizer. It's okay if we stick with fist bumps instead of handshakes while you know we don't have to have the entire clan. Come over all fifty people jammed into the house all at the same time right and we can go slowly here and make sure this keeps going that that we can. I mean we're relying now. And i believe most of the The state is relying now on the the vaccination process. We do have these numbers down. As of yesterday we had thirteen thousand seven hundred doses administered in henderson county alone. All right. so. Let's move on to the vaccinations and there's the big you know big thing you want to know. Okay where are we. We are at a better place. As far as cova infection in a in henderson county our region the tsa s beside be when we say there's one hundred and thirty nine people in the hospital. We're talking about our. Tsa our region..

Merrick Garland Confirmation Hearing For AG
"But today is all about Merrick Garland. He'll appear before the Senate to take questions from lawmakers for the position of attorney general. Most people know Merrick Garland's name because of something that didn't happen. Garland never got a hearing after President Obama nominated him to serve on the Supreme Court five years ago. Here's NPR justice correspondent Carrie Johnson. Merrick Garland has devoted nearly 45 years to the law. But he didn't start out that way is, he told Professor Martha Minnow at Harvard Law School in 2016. Why don't you go to law school in the first place? Chemistry, well chemistry and math. Garland had planned to become a doctor. He wanted to help people one on one, but his collision with the hard sciences spun him toward the law, where he's looked for that sort of direct connection ever since. In the mid 19 eighties. At his law firm in Washington, Garland became a rising star. He made time for a young college graduate who worked in the copy center to Randy Thompson says Garland reviewed one of his papers, photocopied it and rearrange the paragraphs. That was the beginning of In essence and becoming a riding coach. For me, it was just extraordinary experience and became my coach. Eventually, my mentor and 30 something years later, a friend. Eventually Garland Road, MMA reference for law school and has kept in touch ever since, Thompson says garlands Still a little old school still humble, still looking to help. The only thing that really has changed about him, And I guess me as well is the color of hair. I don't know, well respected judge as attorney general. Help get the department under the quagmire of partisan politics that many people think it devolved to under President Trump and Attorney General Bar That's Georgetown law professor Paul Butler. He says the DOJ has been reeling from political scandals and racing to confront the threat from homegrown extremists. Merrick Garland has faced both before. After clerking on the Supreme Court. Garland took a job as an advisor in President Jimmy Carter's Justice Department. In those years after Watergate, DOJ struggled to separate partisan influence from law enforcement and establish new boundaries for the FBI. Garland also played a bit part in some of the biggest investigations of that era from political corruption to national security that Garland says later turned into hit movies. American Hustle about the Abscam case. Argo about the ex filtration of hostages in Iran and the most important the miracle on ice. Which was about the Lake Placid Olympics, where I did work on the security for the Olympics By the 19 nineties, Garland was prosecuting a violent gang that terrorized people in a public housing project. And helping build a case against DC's mayor Marion Barry. On drug charges Back inside Justice Department headquarters, Garland became the man to see for the hardest problems. The car bomb exploded outside of a large federal building in downtown Oklahoma City, Garland would soon travel to the site of the most deadly domestic terror plot in American history. 168 people died in that bombing in Oklahoma. Former deputy Attorney General Jamie Go Relic remembers watching that day with Garland by her side, he basically said while watching Children being pulled out of the wreckage. That he had to go. He really wanted to go. We both had young Children at the time and What we saw on those screens was so affecting. Garland oversaw the search warrants protected the chain of evidence and insisted that reporters have access to court proceedings. We wanted somebody Who could make sure that the investigation was done by the book. And that any indictment was bulletproof. Prosecutors later convicted Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols for their role in that bombing. Former prosecutor Beth Wilkinson says Garland played an important role in other confrontations with extremists in those years, including a standoff with the heavily armed Montana free Men. One of the examples I can think of is sometimes and there were these stand downs where there would be, you know, arrest warrants for someone, or there would be some kind of controversy between people who were challenging the federal government. America's first instinct wasn't to go in and arrest everyone. It was to try and along with the FBI to see if there's a dispute could be resolved. Wilkinson says. The FBI went on to arrest those men later. She credited garlands, quick thinking and cool head that may have prevented a tragic outcome. Just about the only criticism Garland's nomination has drawn is in the area of civil rights. Garland is a moderate, so I don't see him as the bold and visionary leader or racial justice that some people were hoping for again. Georgetown law professor Paul Butler that he's not an ideologue is both discerning for people who want an attorney general. To meet this moment of national reckoning inspired by the movement for Black lives and the killing of George Floyd Butler says he thinks girls just from the White House long time civil rights advocate Wade Henderson says Garland is up to the task. But Henderson says it's a big one. The next attorney general, for example, has to do everything In his or her power to fight for voting rights. Police reform Criminal justice reform and LGBT Q equality. For the past 23 years, Garland has been a federal appeals court judge in that role, he doesn't have much of a chance to share his personal views. Carolyn Lerner, the chief mediator at the courthouse, says Garland took an early, an important lead to update policies that protect workers from sexual harassment and other misconduct. I think it's very clear that Judge Garland cares a lot about these issues, and he really wants employees to be happy and comfortable in the workplace, and when he was chief judge, he took his responsibility. To these employees very seriously, she says. Garland wants to continue another of his projects at the Justice Department tutoring sessions with a young public school student. This year. The judge is working with an 11 year old boy and his twin sister. Your mom is Andrea Tucker. He makes this so interactive for them and so much fun and they can't get enough of it. It's the kind of public service that Garland has always wanted to
Can Liverpool Snap Their Slump?
"Liverpool coming off a result midweek in the champions league thought when we focus on their league form not so great. They've lost three straight for merely outscored eight to two in those matches. Stevie the league form not good but can we throw it out the window based on what you saw. Mid week. Leipzig to be honest. I'm gonna base on scene from evan. Rather than what. I've seen from liverpool. I think we know liverpool. Golden played good football. Hopefully they're going to create. The question is what we take chances. And kinda and that's been their mantra. I think this is over. Evan up until i go a bed the smaller and looked and looked to see what had been said for months. You'll autobahn and use a kind of changed my opinion because i was very comfortable when i went to bed. Before the fact that culvert loons black. You've got allenbach. You got hamas who. I think we'll play as well. So they've kind of a as well as liverpool getting a little bit of a kick from winning against light shake evans going to get a little spot as well for most three at the same time. I don't think is going to be an awful thing. Liverpool will take it a business. You mentioned what carlo ancelotti said. You're in club downplayed this earlier but the reverse fixture of this is where virgil van. Dyke got hurt. We'll liverpool's players be thinking about that. Is that at all a factor in this absolutely not liverpool of other things to worry about right now with those vendettas. And when you stop doing that that affects your game when you start worrying about getting a kick it somebody or gone around and tried to get one on the that's going to affect you as you said liverpool too many other problems where they can. They can do things so i i don't think will have any whatsoever correct. Speaking those other liverpool problems basically been a coin flip over the last couple of months which liverpool we get and it's not really between good and bad. it's between feast and famine and look. There's a clear fight for the top four here between a few teams what one of which up until a couple of games ago look it might be able to make still be but clearly live for sure. I'm not going to catch. Set has been questioned whether anybody will catch them but settling from where pearl are so. There's a clear fight for the top. Four and i think they'll be buoyed by their performance and mid week but i'm with stevia. Initially islanders probably going combat but he's lacking much shoppers. Rodriguez is a talent. But he's not particularly away from home. A place like lever put and going to get the ball here because everton do that home in a way. They often the lawyers for as what liver poke can do with an ev. You know the such a hard team to read it. Belet lasted in a sense. Have lost some crazy games as she are still up there. Everyone had i think the three games in hand up until a week or ten days ago and then they lost home to fill them the loss home to set these kind of expected. The hong end then brushed aside. But i could see lever. Pull getting a result here purely going to dominate the game. And i think eventually it will break down. Of course they're gonna watch learn these pace and behind running the johnson. That's a weak point for liverpool at the moment. But i just feel with us. Top four limited as real. Fight that lever pill get the job done here and could run together to get themselves in their shock. Everton haven't beaten liverpool since two thousand ten have one at anfield since one thousand nine hundred ninety nine. This feels like as good a chance chances. They're going to get ride. No all records falling as far as liverpool is concerned in particular over recent weeks. That format downfield. Now i'm different from the voice. I'm sitting around the fence but leaning everton. I just feel as good. A result was against rb leipzig. Maybe a little bit expected especially given i felt. I thought i'd be like coming into this. A little bit light up front and maybe not threatening liverpool anywhere near as much as you would thought but with covid louis coming back. In particular that make centre-half paramount liverpool will be relying on on henderson. I just feel about their goals for forever time here and as a see i'm sitting on the inside but leading everton i just don't see a liverpool win.

"County responders that which is made up by the henderson county peace officers association and the henderson county fire chiefs association and we had to scale down in the last year we planned for a really large event. And then it ended up getting canceled this year with all the cdc guidelines. We're going to have the rodeo. Were not going to have a concert. We're not gonna have kids zone. But we're still going to have a really good show with the rodeo. We're going to have some entertainment during the rodeo. A able to bring in a bullfighting organization And so it's going to be another event that we were able to get. The cowboys are gonna take care of force and it's going to be a great fundraiser. And if anybody is interested in becoming a sponsor please contact us here at the sheriff's office and we will gladly get you the information that you need for sponsorships but it's going to be a lot of fun again. April twenty third april twenty fourth. It'd be a family oriented bent so bring your family. Bring your kids and have a good time watching the rodeo. So last year obviously in april it was the it was low couple of months into the pandemic right after things really got shut down And so got postponed last year. Luckily you know the pandemic is still going on. We had however learned a little more about how to deal with it and how we live our lives in. So it's good to know that we're going to have this tells you what the fundraiser is. Going to benefit the henderson county fire chiefs association and the henderson county peace officers association. And since we didn't divide up any of the money last year we had a lot of great sponsors last year. We just left that money in the bank hoping to have the event this year and we're getting more sponsors now. I want to thank them for sure. But we're going to divide the money in between the two organizations and the peaceful officers organization. We always try to do our best to help. Local.

"But it's all based upon the census data and you know what there's a time line to get these things done. Because if the release of census data comes too late in the year to get all of the puts in the takes the moving in the adjusting and the balancing and all the wrangling that goes on that has to be finished in time to begin the next election process. We just finished one but elections never in everett. Every two years they start. We actually agreed to conduct Five or six elections. This may for some the school districts in the cities in the areas elections never end and it is based so much on census data that this delay pushing us back till summer december is sign up time and usually you get to start in march delayed till august. That church closes the window down. And we also have to deal with the fact that it's all timed for the legislature by texans. We have this belief that the Less time lawmakers are meeting the better for us and so one of the things. I had to get used to when i got here to. Texas is the fact that lawmakers meet for very short period of time every other year. And they're only in session until one hundred and forty days. One hundred and forty days may thirty first is the closing sanitize. They say in the house so the current legislative session is due to end may thirty first bowl. We might not get the census data until the summer until summer. That sounds like a problem. Yes you know. The governor can call a special session which is a thirty day session for targeted legislative work and we have been taking side bets in laffin cutting up with everyone of going. How long will the legislature actually being austin this year so this is a if it does not come in. There will be a special session and when it is focused solely on redistricting. And there's not other distractions involved a special session. The can either be really good and really fast or the condition. Quite a deal of wrangling going on that delays the process even farther and so to give you an idea of why some of this stuff is. Important is a lot of federal grants. Allied of of funny. They flew close down to local areas or based on census. Data based on these redistricting in these districts. Obviously the elections if you re draw lines. It changes the districts ten years ago. Last time the state went through redistricting henderson county And ended up in two separate state house districts which i will be upset about until my dying day that that happened to henderson county. I think it was the worst possible thing to happen to our county. I can't believe that it was allowed to happen. I will scream that. It was a mistake and hate on those politics until the end. I'm right there with you on that. Because is the only rule county that had that was split like that. You know we're rule nature. This is common in the more populated areas because there is a specific set. You take the population divide divided by one hundred fifty. Because that's how many legislators we have in house and that's the population sites well in urban areas..
