18 long years, and now it’s here. Will the Browns beat the Steelers on Wildcard Weekend?
"Very exciting friday night. I mean we're almost on the brink of the steelers first playoff game in three years and to make matters even more exciting. They're taking on. The browns their hated rivals a team. That has gotten better this year after years of hype seemingly many years of hype. Only only each really tony but a couple of years but seemed like people were were on that hype train a couple years ago. They didn't come through two thousand eighteen. They didn't come through last year but this year. The browns are back in the playoffs for the first time in eighteen years number. Six seed in the afc and if you know anything about math in the playoffs the first round this year. It's it's it's always. It's always a combination of nine two versus seven four versus five. Well not one verse. 'cause they're on a team yet and since the number three seed and three plus six nine. It means pittsburgh. And cleveland are going to be facing each other The sunday heinz field in the in the wildcard round. And i'm just really. I'm really looking forward to it. I really
Steelers HC Mike Tomlin hopes his team isn’t confident after loss
"Mike. Tomlin was in front of the podium. The virtual podium for add a thing. Well just we just talked to him next because the steelers had just lost twenty seven to seventeen against the cincinnati bengals on monday night football. Might tom had spoken to the media after the game. Obviously until on tuesday on a short week leeann week sixteen. The pittsburgh steelers absolutely need a win. And mike tomlin had a lot of questions to answer as the steelers. Prepare for the indianapolis colts to come to heinz field in the season. Finale there at the big ketchup bottle. He started things off of the recap of the cincinnati bengals game. He said the loss still stings. The steelers simply just have to perform better but he also mentioned that some things about team went from bad to worse and he was mainly talking about the team's poor starts. He talked about three turnovers in the first half essentially spotting the bengals seventeen points. He said it wasn't just the offense though. The defense failed to get the the bengals the field even with those turnovers. They never forced field goals. They must they gave up fourteen points in the last two turnovers. He's just a very poor start to the game. He said the score that the steelers face the way that they wanted to operate offensively. They couldn't lean on the run the whether they wanted to. He said the nonetheless with all of that said in his bad as the team was. He's vans cannot expect sweeping changes. He's a they just have to do it better when he meant it. He's talking about he. S to the steelers have to perform better. They have to plan better. He is still confident. You can't expect the head coach. The same thing different. He is still confident in this football team with the coaches that they have they. They need to shut their mails and go to work

"I hope you enjoy the the first part of the show where we looked at some of the projections for the season broke down some of the numbers from the last game. But, you know what? It's Thursday. That's what happened in the past. It's looking forward it stacking winds. It's continuing on a roll and the steelers have none other than the Cleveland Browns, the brownies coming into town and. Fans in the stands again, going to see how this all works out for the steelers. This is their biggest test of the season. It's gotta be just simply based on record. The next steelers next three opponents are are all Oliva five hundred. They will be no matter what when the steelers faced them. So this is a stretch that's really big for the steelers That could really help to define their season on at the at the steelers can get a couple of wins out these next three games. Three would be fantastic but even just to would be a really great stretch of the season for the steelers now. So let's see how they match up against the browns and this is starting to get a lot more difficult to do when you look at where teams are ranked when it comes to. Pass it and Russia and defending the pass and defending the rush because you've got, you've got teams that have and play the same amount of games. Now, you've got a lot of them now you've got. I think they're six there was two teams that had a by already scheduled for week five that was the Green Bay. And the Detroit Lions then you had a game that was not played between the New England Patriots and the Denver. broncos. And then you also obviously have the steelers and titans of what happened last week and we don't want to talk about that anymore. So it kind of gets tricky because sometimes these rankings, then you've got to adjust them. So I just did all the rankings I can tell you what they would have been otherwise, but but I can tell you. Where they go, let's just look at some pure numbers first. Let's look at some some defensive numbers comparing the browns defense to the steelers defense. Let's look at. Saks. The steelers have twenty sacks, which is the most in the NFL and the thing about that is they've played one game that everybody else not everybody else. But of most of those teams that are up towards the top, they have one last game and more sacks with twenty. So there I in the NFL and sacks where Cleveland, their middle of the road there fourteenth twelve. So that's not a not a bad total but not quite up to work or the steelers are but where the browns. Are Excelling on defense is their leading the league in takeaways not only do they have twelve sacks they have twelve takeaways. The steelers have seven, which when you adjusted for the number of. Tea. Or Games teams played that would have tied for seventh with the Patriots who also have seven or one game down. Compared everyone else. So the steelers are doing terrible taking the ball, but that's something that the browns have done. Really well, this season. So that's something to think about and look for in this game coming up with the steelers on Sunday is that can take care of the ball. So let's look at some other defensive stats. You've got the steelers rush defense, which is now if you adjust for the That, they've played they are now second in the League in defending the run. Tampa Bay move you know they stay by has more yards than that but not very many. So therefore, when you adjust that the steelers have only played four games when you're talking about yards per game that puts him in second, otherwise, it would have been first so they can still get back to that and that sixty four yards a game and just think about if the steelers didn't give up that seventy four are rushing touchdown, which I'm not GonNa dive into too much. Let's say the only give four yards on that play like they should have. A, that's that changes. That's almost. My goodness. That is almost half of the Russia yards at the steelers have given up on the season right there on one run. So it just goes to show how how things can can can change that. So you've got to pretty good run defenses going at it. You know the steelers give up sixty four yards per game. the Cleveland browns their fourth in the League when it comes to defending the run where they've given up eighty seven yards per game. So you've got to stop run defense is going up against each other on Sunday, which will be interesting to watch but then you turn around you look at the past defense. and. It could be deceptive that looks like that the steelers are really fourth but they're not. They're middle of the road are sixteenth. When you adjust it for only playing four games where they've given an average giving up two, hundred, thirty seven and a half yards a game. So you're like you look at the steelers, opponents and everything and some steelers fans get kinda worried about that. But then again, the steelers also seemed to be kind of somewhat willing to give up. That you know some passing yards in order to cut down other things, but we talked about the beginning. APP. So we'll just can't let the numbers speak for themselves. But the browns. The browns are thirtieth thirtieth in the league. When it comes to defending the pass, they are thirtieth they are giving up an average of two, hundred, ninety, six point, four yards a game. Now..

"Behind the steel curtain co editor, Dave Scofield coming at you for some Geek time. I don't know if it's that much of a geek time, but it's called static. So I guess I should kind of embrace it. So it's Another good week. Another opportunity to be happy the steelers Fan 'cause you're coming off of another victory, the steelers four. Now they are one quarter of the way through the twenty twenty season took a week longer to get what they wanted but they're they're they're at four no, they're one of only four. Sorry five four. Four teams I started to say five because I forgot there was one of the teams was eliminated. Tuesday night. Which happened to be the buffalo bills and not the Tennessee Titans. So there's only four teams left. That are that have not lost on the season it would be the Tennessee titans in Pittsburgh steelers in the AFC and the. SEATTLE seahawks, and Green Bay packers in the NFC. But that's great to think about that. Great to look at. But you also got a picture you're prepared for the next week before we jump into that next week let's take a little look back at. Some things that went down with the steelers this past week. We'll look at some of the stuff in the game. We'll kind of look at some stuff at the quarter mark. I, actually did this. Two weeks into the season to see how things would look. Let's actually get a little bit bigger sample size to see how things would look for the steelers and believe it or not some of the stuff is looking very similar but The the steelers sport their most points of the season in week five at Heinz field in front of I'd like to say fifty, five, hundred fans. But that was not the official attendance that was that was given. But the steelers put up thirty eight points broke that streak of. I. Do believe it was twenty three straight games where they hadn't scored thirty points. I know dated back to when they played chargers at Heinz Field Back in twenty eighteen and a game that they lost. So but they scored thirty eight points The biggest concern was as they did surrender twenty nine points to the Philadelphia Eagles. That's the most points they'd surrendered sense week one of two, thousand, nineteen when gave up thirty three to the New England patriots that's the most. Point, surrendered since a lot of people. One of the key moments that they look at was the acquisition of its Patrick last season this is the most points they've surrendered since they. Acquired. Fitzpatrick and it's interesting because a lot of people were down on. Some of the parts of the steelers secondary saying you know come on where's where's fitzpatrick? Where's he been? What's going on with the steelers? Past Defense? They're giving a piece yards given up the third longs letting a no name receiver absolutely torch them for more than one hundred, fifty yards on ten receptions. I think. Part of that has to do with the steelers game plan at what they're trying to do and I think that game plan is changing week to week I talked about that on the scarborough. Show. And then the other thing that looked at was I, I did a breakdown with Jeffrey. Benedict. In an article that was published on Tuesday at behind this curtain dot com, your one stop shop for all things Pittsburgh steelers. And In this article we we kind of looked at the stats I broke down the stats. He broke down the film. We brought the two things together. We called it a steelers, vertex. Yes. It was nice at Nerdy Nice. Geeky and it was Jeffries idea not mine. I just rolled with it when he after he came up with the name of how we brought the two things together to to to talk about what happened and the steelers defense appear to be trying to takeaways accurate. They did a great job of that healy had one reception for six yards. He was targeted six times one of those targets and being a steven Nelson interception. So. That was one of the things that's we're trying to take away but they're also. There's no problem with trying to take away one or two particular things from another team. You just can't allow other things to suffer that much that you are really getting taken advantage. Now, good teams have to take advantage of that good coaches have to be able to figure it out I believe Philadelphia has some great offensive coaches and that's what they were doing. I. Also like how the steelers are doing the same thing teen Chaudhry that to them because this past week. was quite the coming out party of one chase play pool with his. touchdowns three receiving one rushing and over one hundred yards receiving that was. So much more than I expected from the rookie this early in the season. I. Kept giving some projected stats for clay poll of what people would be. You know he had this many yards on this many catches with this many touchdowns that would be a great rookie season. By touchdown number. Was Five. If, you count the rushing touchdown with tears. No reason not to. He's already there according to the way through the season. He's already hit the touchdown mark that I said would be a great rookie season so and he's already Probably, I'm trying to think of it. Exactly. He's. He's getting close to being halfway there in the yards the departments because I was I can't remember what it was. It was over five hundred yards five, hundred some and he's got two hundred, sixty, one yards on the season already. So it's.
Philadelphia Eagles looking forward to facing Pittsburgh Steelers with fans in the stands
"The Eagles will play in front of fans. Even though probably most of them will be voting for the Steelers, Heywood, overuse and bank, it explains. The Steelers will allow a limited amount of fans in the stands when they face the Eagles quarterback Darius Slay says. Even though the fans will be rooting against his team, he'll be happy to hear the noise in the stadium. I might get a little more exciting, not hear Abou call like a boon for the first time When I run out of town, I might be excited. You know what it might be boot? I'm like, just like yes, you know, uh, a great man a great play in front of some fans. Doug Peters. It is also happy. The Steelers will have fans of the game and hopes it won't be long before fans will be allowed back in the link is positive. We're excited that you know it is getting closer to maybe having fans even even here. The link. But But having fans you know at Heinz Field is gonna be. It's gonna be great. It's gonna be great for both teams. Approximately 5500 fans will be allowed to attend Sunday's game I'm Ed Bank in K Y W news radio.

"Here in a lot of passionate stories about people in their industries, trying to survive in the past 90 minutes, we've been talking about the restaurant industry. And ah You know, it's it's tough. I mean, nobody has any easy answers. And that's just one of many and you look at all the different places that are open or not open and I thought about this last week when I did the pit game for the pit radio network, and I was literally the only human being. In a seat. 68,400 seats that Heinz Field I was in the Panther pit. And I thought They're playing football in this counts. And this is a real game it here I am with my mask on Which seemed kind of silly because I was with all my close friends. My broadcast partners joke to me Plastic and Jeff Hathorn and then And then I thought, How sad because Typically pit game You might get 40,000 people Steelers 60 some 1068. I'm sure with the weather it's been Sentence would have been huge when you do have a chance to go back. It's going to be special. As it should be, and then I was thinking about work in the Steelers game on Sunday and looking out and again. See and no fans in the stands, and I thought about this all of those people. Maybe it took for granted. That took your tickets or work. The concession stands or did what they did with parking and just part of the show. What are they doing? So many of those people had counted on this money. And don't have an opportunity to work. So if you are working Do you feel? Grateful. Yeah, I think a lot of people said, Well, at least you're working. And that is true. And then you think of all of those concession ears in the restaurants. As part of just I'm just talking about Heinz Field. In those two days, So we had two games last week. There'll be two more this week. Will there be a loosening of that doesn't look like it any time soon. But we'll see In the meantime, What about all of those people who are in that industry and it counted on that? So much to make a livelihood in living, and we heard Cem Really heartfelt stories and patients I know is wearing thin, so we're going to talk about A big issue for Pennsylvania in this regard is Governor Tom Wolfe. And that just happened today. And now this restaurant bill that passed yesterday. Which would loosen things up. The governor says he'll be till they feel they do have the votes to pass. And what if they do what happens After that? We'll talk more about that coming up right after the news with Rose Ryan Douglas here at the bottom of the hour. Washington.

"High's field is closed to viewers know fans Welcome at Heinz Field for the month of September for the Steelers and the PIC games. You have to steal our games. No fans, three pick games. No fans. Thie line from Heinz Field is Wants some changes take place when it comes to a maximum number of people who Congar o to a sporting event. Once those numbers change capacity restrictions were lifted. Then the Steelers and pit officials hope to allow fans inside Heinz Field at games later on in the season, so there's dealing with September right now hoping that things changed for October and moving forward. So with that I want to know what you think of the decision to not allow fans. Would you go to a game next month, even if the doors were open? Let's say they said yes, everybody who wants to come into a game can come into a game. Would you even bother going Or would you more than likely just stay home? And I love to hear from you. 866391 10 20 is the phone number 866 through nine wanted 10 21 of those individuals. That's ah, loving the idea of going to a game has for years and looking forward to going again as soon as possible, then knows Casey is joining us. He's a season ticket holder. He's joining us on the distances to the Pittsburgh News line, Dan, Welcome back to Katie Kay Radio. Good to have you Good afternoon, Dan. What? Through your mind when you've got word that officially no fans at games for September, at least You know, I had mixed feelings about it. I kind of knew that they were going to start the season just by the New York football team. Uh, having fans involved I figured we'd probably at least two games. Oh, I was kind of prepare her, But it is a bummer. I mean, you know they're taking the The safest route so I could understand. If they were to allow fans. Could you see yourself going? Absolutely. I was told that The people that had remained on the list for season tickets. That they would divide the game's up into six. Of course, there will be six games left and then game by game, you will be able to bid On a seat, not your seat, but any different seats. They're available in these little bubble pods that they're going to create. So that's something to beat the pyramids as well. If there is even going to be fans in the stadium now, how are you understanding these bubble plods who? What they look like It would be a section and maybe skip a section and then, uh, you know, it would be another section and then everyone would be spaced out in that section. They were built to be determined as well. That's something that the NFL's figuring out. Um this privy to some inside information on that. Just going to share that with you. Okay, so ah, you're a season ticket holder. How many tickets do you have? For each game. I have four season tickets. Okay, so theoretically, you'd be able to then by your four season tickets, and then there would be some aspect of designated spacing between your grouping of four. And some other pair four or six, depending upon who it is and how many tickets they have available to them. Is my getting that right, right? Yes, but Robert, also you have to win a lottery. To even purchase a ticket. So you will be into like a random drawing for that week. Will they pull my Season, pass out and say you're eligible to purchase tickets. To be the tournament. Now. What kind of options? Are they giving you a season ticket holder? Obviously, you're not going to get access to these two games. What are they telling you that they're willing to do and consider in lieu of you being able to see the games in person? Well, they will refund your money or put it towards next year, which I thought the Steelers have been very good with Being very flexible with that, so I have not heard anyone and I have a large crew group that have season tickets. Everyone says they have handled the situation. Extremely professional. So I'm glad to hear that. Do you think that you'll leave the money with them until next season or take the refund and then look at next season when next season comes Oh, I think I personally would leave it for next year. Just you know, it's a bill already paid. They have re funded the preseason games with fact fact too. They mailed out to us. Okay, so we didn't even requested. They just did it on their own. Is there any talk amongst fans because my understanding is from talking with you? Ah, couple of months ago about this. I believe we talked back in June. You have to Parking spaces for the car and then be ableto have no food and gatherings in everybody who tell Gates have you heard any chatter about the idea of it least wanting to get together and tailgating? Either before or during the game. Is there any talk of that going on? That's a great question because I pose this question, and there will be no pre sold parking this year. Or any of the fans except suite holders. And it's on a first come first served basis if they open up the lot. Um, you know, if they have fans, there will be no tailgating whatsoever. And the lots will open up three hours prior to the game. And you must immediately go into the game and after the game, you must leave right after the game is over so well. Mia, so there will be no tailgating. Now that brings up a question. About the bars and restaurants around The stadium. I'm not sure how they're going to handle that. But I could see a lot of people want to go down there. No fans inside. And you're going to seeing some chaos. I guarantee it. Uh, definitely. Oh, yeah, the idea of fans wanting to be the idea of fans at least wanting to be close and then you're still dealing with these 25% occupancy. Ah wouldn't be surprised if some of the restaurants downtown deciding down in North Shore try to figure out ways of closing down streets to put some outdoor seating orm or outdoor seating. So the people can get together and enjoy themselves. Is there I like watching the game. Get played it, you know and be there at least as close as you could be. Yes, I agree that that is something to be worked out. I'm sure you're right once again, joining us on the disc Institute.

Balls. D. E. Sports. Mike pursued a sports ju just talked to the steeler media and had some interesting things to say. Yeah, we're just Ju just zoomed with Juju Smith Schuster and. Primary among the topics he was asked to address. How the targets could drop from one, sixty, six to seventy receptions could drop from one hundred eleven to forty two and the receiving yards could drop from one, thousand, four, hundred, six, in two, thousand, eighteen to five, hundred, and fifty two lasts lie that a lot of that had to do with Ben Rothlisberger missing all but six quarters of the season but Juju. Smith, Schuster was also the guy he was the number one receiver for the first time that was an adjustment and he was also injured and missed some time and played at less than one hundred percent some of the time and all three of those things definitely different with our Juju described it he. Is endeavoring to be better prepared for whatever gets thrown at them this year, he spent the off season working out one on one with a performance coach rather than in small groups of players as he had done previously he said he's probably the lightest I've been an a little quicker juju said He's more lean more ripped. So he's hoping that that will facilitate a bounce back year, and he also talked about wanting to know the entire offense and check this nugget out previously he's played either outside or inside in the slot this year, he also wants to be able to play on the backside and Juju here in the backfield as a running back. Now. Didn't get a chance follow up on that. But one of the kind of ongoing themes here that everybody's trying to figure out is to what degree will the new quarterbacks coach Matt Candida influence the offense Canada is a misdirection motion guy and the steelers were big out of one of those things. But Randy we've heard from deontay Johnson, talking about a bunch of new motions. what might Canada contribute? They're not going to rebuild the whole thing, but I'm starting to think it's going to have a little bit of his signature. Well it I. I you know I've been complaining Ad Nauseam. About not taking jk Dobbins and really shoring up the backfield but now that I know that. They drafted receiver with their first draft pick in order to put Juju in the backfield they've just makes sense. That makes sense to me. Let's do a bunch of dumb bricker, a personnel BS. Instead of just putting a ball in the backfield and making Juju, fly down the field and have been throwing the ball. Am I overreacting to one statement that you ten minutes ago. Yes. Yeah there's no training camp and we're in a pandemic. I'm trying to make chicken salad out of this. I think the idea is probably put him in motion out of the Backfield I'm just GonNa, take a wild guess. They're not gonNA give it to Juju on fourth and one up the gut in the A gap. But tweaks nuances particularly early in the season when people don't have tape of you from the preseason because there's no preseason home is the little guy used to say it's August paid Democ I'm intrigue about how many times they put a guy motion before the snap. I'm waiting for him to go into the backfield and like three other guys go. Hey Man I'm already back.

"Gold putting on pads today. It'd be a great time to have our friend Missy, Matthews from steelers. Dot Com joining us here on the show. Good Morning Missy, how are you? Hi Guys, Good Morning Getting Ready to leave my house into. The. Also, I'm not docking live. Pretty excited. For as This has gone on and you've been distance and not had the thrill of training camp this year I would imagine that. Although you're not gonNA put on the pads today, the anticipation is pretty great for you and the Resin steelers media. I mean just to be able to watch football it's sad because we didn't have OTA's there wasn't many camping some of the parts of the off season that maybe we dread or we felt like carries on a little bit I mean, no one has watched steelers practice since December So yeah, I think to say everyone's excited is an understatement it's environment. we will be watching from socially distanced area. So I mean all of its new of course. Yeah exciting and. Yeah, I just I just WANNA. See some football other than like my children playing football in my backyard. Members of the media that you were that you wish would still like forget to turn off the mute so you don't have to listen to them while practices going. I mean I will say there are some members of the media in. Pittsburgh. Who still have not fully grasp. Zoom I do enjoy it a little bit but I think maybe we'll get there. As you know, every interview during training camp is going to be via zoom. So we we all need to do our best to learn the new medium. Missy what about fans? My still cool to go up to the overlook at Mount. Washington with the telescope or is that Not, too, close. I mean best wishes I don't know how much you'll see but I mean, you guys are talking. Raven. For he jumps on I. Heard of you know pursued I are getting to do something cool. We have never carried any of practice live. We've always done live programming pretty much wrapping up the day taking coach live but starting probably Fifteen minutes before practice starts approximately one fifteen they're supposed to. You know really blast the horn get going at one thirty guys walking out guys stretching if you've been to training Camp Ben and county like throw balls at the field goal there's just different little things that all the players do as they get ready for practice, some guys are listening to music. Some guys are just chatting So we're GONNA get to do it live with. Stadium cameras like the ones that you know do the scoreboard and network feeds and Seinfield for games, we have three of them So it should be pretty cool because then we'll get to show the players coming out a little bit of individuals. We're not going to get to the show the whole thing but I think it is going to be a glimpse that I know we're all excited about all members of the are excited about as well. And we'll be doing that every day. There's a practice correct. Yes. Market. And then the wrap up the wrap up is going to alternate. With either myself Tonkin or Craig Wolseley that'll start with the Mike Tomlin press conference and then continue their after still. Yeah. I'm pretty excited about this is well What Is there. One thing beyond just getting out of the house and drive in the Heinz field and hoping you remember where it is. Is there something in particular that you're GONNA be Kinda zeroed in on today. Well I WANNA. See how good my jersey number skills are. You know I? Feel like usually during otas and minicamp kind of okay. Yeah. I know who that guy is that you know not like the Eric Lebron's the big for each but just some of the other guys and I feel like I'm a little rusty right now because normally when he or sending email text messages and my co workers say like thirty and nineteen you know and sometimes I'm like wait that so I just feel like for me. I need to make sure that I understand the roster who guys are I really WanNa see you know coach talked about Benny. Snail, he talked about the Johnson Kinda trimming down getting more in shape for year two. But you know I go through every photo and video that is posted on the website or set out to the media from the full photos and Dan mccullers looks like he's slimmed down. So I WANNA see for my own is you know what big Dan which is his nickname looks like And just really you know number seven I know it's that's low hanging fruit. But who doesn't WANNA see seven with their own is Yeah I mean. I saw action here. To follow up on the mccullers. Thing I'm GonNa make a bold prediction that Dan mccullers doesn't play very much this year. Really Yeah I. Own, way out on the lip. Fool me once. Shame on you. Fool me four years ago. I'm an idiot steeler fan. He's. Here he's made a huge leap. In that vein missy are there any you know? So many positions are settled already but are there battles that you're looking forward to seeing taking place? Coaches. Make a decision now that the pads are on those might. Become a little more clear. I guess the only one big battle everyone wants to see as right tackle and we know who is between WanNa know how the coaches doing it or are they switching every day where either tubes or Zach banner go with First Team? How do they split it up? Is it GONNA be by week? You know what? What are they doing to determine because you don't have very much to go by other than these padded practices. So I'm interested to see how they do that. Also you know Matt Canada spoke to. Speak there. We heard from Eddie. Faulkner everyone's talking about improving the run game and maybe some different tweaks and different things that no one wants to give any answers away from. So I WANNA see what not Canada's influences on this offense motion and all the different things and also just how. They are taking a step to try to improve the run game from what it was last year. Of course, it was a quarterback fiasco losing Ben Rothlisberger, but that's still something you're running has to be better. Are the coaches anticipated to way social media.

"Bowl in two thousand and five and went first overall. But beyond that I, you know I knew that he got injured in two thousand and eighteen and I knew that it was gruesome but did you know that that? Injury happened. Okay. The the most one of the most gruesome leg injuries in the history of the NFL. It was the same injury that thighs Manhattan and it was thirty three years to the day that thighs men had that injury and thighs men was there. He was in the stands watching the game why it's just crazy to me the two of the most. Just horrific leg injuries in the history of the League happened on the same day thirty, three years apart by two guys that were on the same football team and they were both in the stadium at the time when the second one happened. So that was bizarre. Just like you said, I mean thighs men that ended his career mainly because he was old and he was playing poorly going into that I. think he tried to return the next year and he waved off the team. He had one surgery. You just said it right there. Alex Smith had seventeen surgeries. It wasn't the leg break that makes his. So amazing it's that he had. An infection that turned into. A smooth skin eating bacteria that they had to remove. So much of his leg that I I wouldn't. I mean project eleven I think is reoccurring tonight at eight o'clock or seven o'clock on ESPN and. Look. If you are SORTA queasy about that kind of stuff, not recommend watching that documentary it is as graphic as I've ever seen I've never actually seen a leg like that they took his leg all the way back to the studs because when there's an infection like that, they have to just keep removing the tissue and then they remove all the tissue and then he's got these holes in his leg and then it's still black. So they have to start removing his muscle. So then he's just down to the absolute bone and the plate that they put in his leg to to help his fibula. Tibia he'll, and then they have to start grafting skin and muscle from other parts of his body to to heal that and it's just. You. See this halo on his leg. It is. It is also bad to think that he could ever walk again. I mean, like you said, he almost lost his life they went in they went from leg saving surgery to. Life. Saving surgery because the infection was just they couldn't stop it and just the idea that he would be back out. There is incredible I know that there's you know they have a couple other quarterbacks. I believe they got Alan from from the panthers who's a Rivera guy and they got Haskins. So it's not like he's just going to. Be Back on the field guaranteed but I just can't even believe that he's going to go out there and he's competing still it's it's just an incredible story. Well. A lot of incredible stories going on right now with the way that the NFL is having to endure the pandemic and get ready for a season and learn from the MLB mistakes. I mean. The cardinals of only played eight games. the Marlins played what like twelve games or something like that, and or thirteen, or something and I don't know how they're going to hit them all in I. Think the NFL has done a pretty good job to this point while they've been in their own bubbles. Mike hasn't been huge numbers and a lot of those people have had mild cases and been able to return to play after ten days of. Being Clear Going forward. This may bode well to pull the season off, but they'll they're going to have the same problems. The pirates did not play as many games as we thought, they were GonNa this week and because player from the reds tested positive that means no Bucko baseball this past weekend will the same thing be happening in the NFL this year. And if it does, you don't have the opportunity, you can't play doubleheaders and football and you just don't have the time to make up for it. The contact starts today in Pittsburgh among other places and I guess that's a another significant. Bridge to cross right because. What a doctor foul she tell Peter King I? Think was way back in April that you know. The playing football listed is the perfect vehicle to transmit the virus. So hopefully, they keep a lid on not having anybody who's got it being out there and they can get by, but I'm actually cards by baseball. I know there's issues and some of these teams are having goofy seasons and they're gonNA have to. Cram it in any way they can probably play too many games in too short a period of time but it. You know it's it's preceding lot of teams are playing The cardboard cutouts are on TV and they're doing what they can atmosphere wise and. I saw phillies game. Last Thursday, Ben Franklin was in the second row. I thought man, what are you going to do to get the first road philly it's a tough ticket. Become President. Franklin. Okay. You could sit in the second row. Today I roll. Right. Let's take a break. We'll come back more on the steelers hitting the pads tomorrow and A. Today okay, and uneven weekend for the buckeyes that's next to help you take on the day. Sports. Might pursue has your sports right now on TV morning show what's going on Mike. Sports is brought to you by dormont appliance. The steelers scheduled to put the pads on today and begin playing some actual football at Heinz field as a training camp takes another significant step toward getting everybody ready for the opening of an NFL season in September, one of the things that's been. A lot locally and nationally in regard to how teams are going to survive all these changes and unprecedented developments as they prepare is the continuity is perceived to be a really big deal. If you've got pretty much the same coaching staff got the same quarterback. So you've got a lot of familiar faces, familiar places you are perceived to have a significant edge. The steelers might be one of those teams take. The offensive line, for example, a couple of changes this season, there's going to be a new right tackle and there's GonNa be a new left guard because the old right tackle is now playing left guard but a lot of guys who've played a lot of football together in steelers helmets upfront, and hopefully according to head coach Mike Tomlin enough shared experiences to be able to quickly adjust to the unforeseen everybody knows it's coming. You know. Particularly, in this environment, I think continuity is an asset. You know an office of line It probably gives you an advantage in terms of some of the unforeseen things that you see in stadiums at the early portions of the season it you don't have a lot of video evidence of that shared past experience and those guys have a has a tendency to be an asset to him no Dow but we also want to transition they're looking exclusively Matt filer left art He's also been. A part of this, but he's been plant right tackle and on to right tackle Geyser Bureau of have gotten opportunities in the recent past tiny report eligible and such where we we're hoping that that play an experience in in particularly that share clan experience is an asset to a group and some and some unique times and stepping t seventy, two regular-season stadium without any video evidence of personalities or matic's of opponents. is up.

Partially in an effort to deflect from that and offer people an alternative. And partially, because we're too lazy to really get into writing up serious news stories. Here's some not so serious news for you. The latest fat in Hollywood bill it's kind of a cool one it's beekeeping. Start wondering or start enquiring about the acquisition and maintenance of bees not going to happen for me. Right. Very strange stuff going on. With everybody getting into that I don't know. Exactly. How Somebody started eating honey. Is that is a ballsy person. No doubt yeah. Paulsen used to have bees and I respect the game I'll just ask like. Can I have some of your honey instead of. Where I'll go buy some. You know. They make great honey I mean you know He's getting jar farmers market. Thanks. Yeah. They say you're supposed to eat local honey because that helps you. Become. Immune to local allergies. I don't know how much money you have to eat for that to actually have a profound effect. Here's my question. Why is why is honey's? Sold in the form of a bear and not in the form of be. Because I think, the bears are the ones who discovered it was good. Because bear united mean they're like, yeah like you know Winnie the Pooh. But isn't it kind of like Christopher Columbus discovering America like like honey was already there Eating. Honey Bees. You might be right. It might be time to take down the bear statues. were making the statue of us just fill it with like it like fill. A. Pudgy Dude. where a plastic pudgy dude with with honey. That's yeah. Maybe not a bad way to do even for the honey container enough for the Statue Yeah Yeah I mean again I, think be bears can withstand like beast things don't even get through their skin. Yeah. So they're just annoyed by them like you know. That has to be the way we found honey was good. Well, they're willing to get stung by hive of bees must be good stuff. There's your honey news for the day MacAulay culkin seriously funny guy a quick look at his twitter with that a website recently rounding enough several examples of his twitter humor folks as I said, non hard hitting news this morning. You might be thinking we're on the verge of an authoritarian regime here in our country is falling apart and a cold civil war is turning pretty warm pretty fast. Why aren't you talking about that? Yeah, all the time. What's the male equivalent of a Karen? Named Karen. Going through a rough patch it's become the Term for woman. I'd like that it's become the generic term for woman who wants to talk to the manager and typically will call the cops on people of color enjoying themselves in public spaces without breaking laws. But what is the male equivalent people have tried different names Darren sure Greg Ken, Keith Nothing's really stuck. So one guy on read it. decided to use data to figure it out. He mapped out different men's naming trends over the past seventy years to find baby named followed. The same path is Karen. Rising through the fifties peaking in the late fifties dropping steadily to almost become extinct in two thousand, ten's. The answer. Terry. To. Terry. Terry. The name actually I was GONNA say Larry I was GONNA say don't be a Larry. Would've been close. The name Terry's followed almost the exact same popularity cycle as the named Karen since nineteen fifty. So at least by that measure Terry. Is the male Karen. So remember. Karen's out there..
Boston - Patriots’ Cam Newton Signing Made Official
"Dea think that Cam Newton on the New England patriots when everybody for the last few months or so have simultaneously thrown dirt on the Patriots and elevated the Buffalo Bills. Do you think the. You have to bet right now. Bad Online. We'll hear about them in just a second go on Ben Online. Who Are you picking in the AFC right now? Well. Let's really break down the Patriots you know we're talking about. What's going to happen now that Brady's gone? How many! Hall of Famer Potential Hall of Famer and Hall of famers and Pro Bowlers. Have left the Patriots in the last two decades. Many men meant. Yes, that's all they do. All they do is turn over personnel or for the Sidebar to that is guys. Get thrown money by other by the other thirty one teams. I'll go hill. Replicate what he did in new, England is like no, no, there's some weird Voodoo that goes on up in Foxborough. That does not translate down the Tennessee or Texas or wherever else you're talking about right, so we're not talk. You know we're not talking about. What are the dolphins going to do without Dan Marino. Because they've changed show so much personnel on the offensive and defensive side of the ball over the last twenty years that if there's any team that is poised to turn over one guy now, he's the quarterback. Obviously, that's a super important job, but if anyone has proven that, they can swap one guy out for another guy, it's the Patriots. Of Foreign. Any other organization. And proof of that for any of the cynics out there, they're ignoring I know. It was a limited sample size, but Jimmy G. One every game he ever played Jacoby perset was was good as well when he had the takeover for Brady. Yeah, it's a and you know for what it's worth. Three BLEDSOE came in way back when at the start of the Millennium and beat the steelers in in Heinz field when Brady got hurt, so there's plenty of track record that you're going to be able to plug qb in there and succeed. It is interesting though that given the way Brady plays versus the way that same position and everything else. Else but wildly different way, but people say well how how CAM GONNA fit into that New England system. Have you watched the Patriots play? They don't do the same thing weekend week out. They always change it. They're obviously GONNA change what they do to accommodate number one now.

"The steelers are better off doing either one hundred percent or zero percent, because figuring out anything else in between his tough, and for those of you that are saying Oh. But they only sold half the tickets that was half of the available tickets that weren't out to season ticket holders. I mean on a low estimate. Season ticket holders are seventy percent of the stadium, more likely eighty to eighty five, but even if it's only seventy when they go to sell those other thirty percent, they sold half of them that that means there are only fifteen percent reduced, so you're not even anywhere close to being able to do fifty percent capacity. Let alone like a twenty five percent capacity so. Beykal any other solutions your thoughts on it. Pray for vaccine. On the I've I feel like there's nothing really that can be added like. But no I like I feel like. It's either all or nothing like. What? Else can be done at this point I I? Really don't have an answer for that. Put plexiglas up between every single seat. That's probably caused fortune snow. a yeah. No, like I. I I I. Don't have the Sushi. If I did I probably. Fell right now, but yeah, no! Prey just. Just say. This help us help this pass by, and honestly a lot of people talk about a vaccine like I say the other option is an extremely effective treatment that if they had that, that's the other thing that people wouldn't have to fear. If they if they caught it, they would still want to say at risk. People stay away, but people who aren't at as much at risk. If you do catch it as a treatment for you, that would help out a lot I. do have to answer one question. Before we get onto our actual preview part of the show and that is Joe Cement know about how much season tickets cost. He has no idea I'll be honest with you. The thing is what season tickets is. What's expensive is the initial investment in the C. License. So you've gotta pay. Thousands of dollars for a for the license for one seat. The tickets themselves are not that bad. I mean what what what I bought mine. My brother-in-law I that we went in together. We had a plan that if we went to half the Games and sold half the games and mark them up. You know you know some, but not too much that if we got what we really wanted, and you know some of the things, we just want to sell that one game for a big ticket like with the cowboys games, and then everything else were. Were good to just go. It would take twelve years to recover our seat license fee and we were on pace to do that because we haven't you know. Because we haven't always got as much tickets, but the tickets themselves honestly for mine minor the cheapest in the lower deck 'cause they say that the end zone seats the worst one I say the Best I love to do. I I would rather sit there than on the sidelines, but that's just me. That's the coach me who love being behind the huddle in practice rather than on the sidelines during the game. But mine are mine are roughly a thousand dollars, a seat, little bit more than that, and that includes preseason it everything, and not all the games the same price they keep dropping the prices of the preseason games and upping the prices on some of the elite games. So now we need to get into. We've been doing a countdown of of of these draft picks we. We started at seven to work the way down we had this. We had to switch the fourth round picks because of of just the way it worked out with other show so Brian. Where are we now? We are at number three, which it kind of feels like number two this year, because it's so hard for me not to call chased. Klay pulled the number one draft pick It's hard for me to call, not call. The the second round pick, but he does like last year with the Johnson Deontay Johnson feels like a second round draft pick from last year, but we're talking about High Smith now Alex. Smith was a guy that if you were watching the draft, there were a lot of people that said WHO. When he was drafted. A lot of people didn't know who he was. One of the great things about being here, bt Se and on staff. You have to know who a lot of people are right before the draft is because. You're talking about Sony mocks. You're looking at so many things in. We looked up and we knew who these guys were. I just didn't realize how good this guy was in his senior season. The guy in his first three seasons combined had a total of six sacks. Then his final season, he ends up with fifteen. But here's the Nice thing about it. He's not just one hit one. Trying to do fifteen and I couldn't figure if I got it backwards or not. I thought Brian. So, here's the thing. He's not a one hit wonder even though he had. He had a number of sex only three, and he went five times that amount his tackles for loss. His junior year eighteen and a half. Even with only three sacks tackles for loss with fifteen sacks. He had twenty one and a half. Tackles for a loss. So the last two years he had a love tackles behind scrimmage. You could, you can go ahead and break down the film on the sky, but the most important thing that I'm going to say is when you look at the press conference with. Dabo Sweeney..

"If you'RE A to do that, that's something you think would be a good idea. For the stadium because the other part that comes into that is. But, people saying Oh. This is dangerous I could get sick while you have another option, and if they're offering a premium option for those that are worried about about catching something, then those that just went to the game. Otherwise really you know it's more of a it could help with a liability issue. What go ahead bad. What's your thoughts on that? Well, you know. I'm not really worried about catching. Anything it at the game like you the question. Did you ever catch the flu? The game I mean I did get a cold sort of Motley crue concert at nine, hundred ninety two, but that was a whole. Different reasons. Yes, so we really I mean. That was really the different animal there but. When I look at it, I really don't care I. don't mind going to the concession stand. I've kind of mastered I've mastered the. Art of the social distancing. If I have to go to Sam's Club, or the supermarket or anything I mean I'm in Maryland. I'm still wearing a mask. Is You have to store wear masks here? I'd I don't have a problem with it, but the thing about it is. This is an issue that keeps coming up in. This might be something that happens I'm not really paying a premium or I go to one game a year and it's really it's not a big big deal for me, but for some people. It is a huge deal, so I mean they're gonNA. Pay It. If they want to go bad enough, they will pay it. If. You had so I'm going to clarify. This lit more for Michael. If you have the option to just go for regular price with regular seating with everyone in the same way, or you could play that pay that premium. To to have the social distancing at everything. Which one do you think you would do? That honestly, that's a pretty tough question like. I I got to think of it outside of just like myself. Like I I see my mom, my girlfriend's grandma's still lives with them like it's like. There's some people it'd be putting at risk and like what I want to spend another two weeks in court ruling that that's not really. What I'd want to do so like. To Go to a game for me is going to be an expensive trip anyway, so I think I'd rather err on the side of caution but Yeah, you know I honestly I feel like I I would pick option C. and not go that that's just that's the other option. That would be a good idea. The NFL could figure that out to say. We're not going to do the whole stadium, but we're going to offer some some some special. incentivized tickets where you can have the social distancing. I'll be honest with you because I'm on. WHO said about the? You're going to have to give them their own gate because Y-. Yeah, we're. Brian and I packed in there. I was trying not to be too close to the person sitting next to me. You know I it's Brian. Who can resist so that was part of the reason that happened, but when when do I feel like. I would be the most at risk when I'm packed in going through the gate and then packed in getting to the escalator, going up the ramp. You know it's actually I feel like it's more getting to your seat than anything else so I'm trying to remember if I asked you a question in emp chance to answer it. Entered it. Leases the court Michael Beck. Answered the question, so Brian you anything else I mean. I think that would be really interesting if they could offer that. I don't know how feasible it is, but it could maybe help a little bit with the revenue problem, but the other issue that I. said that they'd have to figure out. What sections do you do and what you do with people that already have have tickets to in that section. You know what I'm saying. What if they decided to do the entire lower deck? And Zone closed down to the stadium where I am where I have to either now pay a bunch more for these tickets for social distancing or You know I don't know how they how they'd work it so and I. Don't know which one I would choose. I gotTA bring this up. Dave Shipley asked what catch a bottle. Pouring is the. What Lance Lance did bring it up everything that he had said to me because I knew I forgot something he said you get a face shield waiter service hand sanitizer. Special entrance is what it would be I mean because honestly I'm not taking my dad game this year. There's fans in the stands unless things are very different by the time by the time we go, and and that's the thing we don't know how things are going to be. We're talking about you know. The steelers don't even play at Heinz field in week one. You know if the the preseason, you're basically social distancing during the preseason games anyway because there's not very many people there. But, but when you come to the regular season already, you're talking about the middle of September when it comes to Heinz field, but you're talking. Some of these are November December games, so things could be different but I. I know right now I'm not. I didn't even offer to take my dad this year because I. Just don't think that's wise for for someone in their in their seventies. That actually has you know. Breathing problems from working around specis when he was younger to go and run a risk of being there so. It kind of depends on who you are and. I hear nothing I told Lance if they needed to have reduced seats. And they went to season ticket holders and say hey. We can only give you half the games, or if you want to volunteer you, keep your seat license, but you don't get any tickets this year. I would I would consider that I would just say I'll skip a year as long as I still don't lose him out for short in order to help do the social distancing thing any other thoughts about the whole thing of how they're going to pull this offer or or Need ideas of how they could do these kind of things. Yeah, you might have to do a lottery like you. Doing the playoffs to get super bowl tickets You know they do a lottery, and you look at the season ticket. You take care of the season ticket holders. I and that's the bottom line. There's no there's no game day seats. There's nothing like that you take care of those those guys and girls that have season tickets You've gotta look at it also in the way that maybe one week you get displaced from your seat Dave. You still get to go to the game, but you're sitting. You're sitting in a different section of the stadium while the people next to you. Are Vice versa. They're sitting in your seats because they're spread out one two and. It's GonNa. It's GonNa be a colossal I. Mean Plan that they have to come up with. I mean. I'm sure like everything. There's people in a boardroom right now, trying to figure this kind of thing out but they'll have to make something happen, but also give you some kind of rebate or do something to make you feel better about what you're giving up this year to. They'll figure it out, but it's GonNa be interesting what they come up with. They're not gonNA leave you guys, high and dry. It's that's a good question, because honestly I. From a from a logistical standpoint, they were right now..
"heinz field" Discussed on Behind the Steel Curtain
"When it comes to backing up players, you know especially on the outside. was someone goes down in the secondary with corner. He's in there, too, but we don't have to ask the same kind of questions with him. Because Sutton and Hilton, or only on earlier contractor, two thousand twenty, where where where lane is only played one year so far on his rookie deal, so that's that's the whole reason there, but let's transition into this some interesting questions. This was something. Believe it or not. Lance Williams brought it up. To us and we're like you know that's a good thing that we'd like to discuss. So. The question is the title of the show. WAS WE'LL FANS pay? Even, you know fans pay more. To sit in a stadium with reduced capacity, we could just look little land came up with a different scenario that we're GONNA. Talk about, but let's just answered this one I of. Of Let's say, let's say high school only going to be filled at fifty percent. That means you get your tickets through the steelers you get them, but those secondhand tickets were most people have to get them. Those prices are going to go through the roof. Are you going to pay extra money to go to a half filled stadium? If that's what's going on the NFL, let's start with that. You know I, think fans. Would they crave going steeler games? It's ritualistic for them to go. You know it is really there's a lot of times where it's hard to find a Pittsburgh steeler ticket and I remember as a kid. I grew up in the eighties, and I remember when you had a steeler ticket fall in your lap. It was just glorious thing I can tell you. The first game I ever went to end the date. December fifth, nineteen, eighty, two, and the reason I know that I can tell you everything about that game. It was two days after my birthday, but I just remember everything about it. Because it was a dream come true to go to that, go to three rivers stadium at the time because it seemed untouchable as a kid to be able to go as an adult I got to go. More than one hundred times in I've had I don't go as much now, but fans to have that experience would still pay money to go that like to go now. There's going to be some fans that WANNA stay home. Probably aren't going to pay more, but the thing about that is that's that's a good choice as well if they don't feel comfortable there, but if you're getting extra amenities in, you're going to go ahead and able will spread out. Watch the game and feel safe. While you're doing it. That's not a bad. That's not a bad idea whatsoever, Dave. You mentioned before that. Hey, what if you had people be being able? We're GONNA get to that one. That's a different question, but but if we go back and that's fine, but if we go back to our excursion to Heinz field. On on December fifteenth of last year, we were. Expecting each other. I tell you what I mean. We were spooning. More than anything because we we're big DUDES, and we're next to each other and we. We got closer to each other in fact. I was waiting for an engagement ring on the way home from Dave I mean then. But I I went home. Look guilty to my wife, and said Yeah I spend with. You know I, mean that's it you are. Going to happen before he went. Yeah, you signed up for it and we have to. You you're right and I wouldn't trade it. I wouldn't go back and trade it, but if you go up higher in the stadium in in the end zone, their bleacher seats, and you don't even have any protection. You're jammed in there on during a regular game, so this is an opportunity to spread out and not have not spread anything and and feel better. About your experience. Why not? Right Michael, would you? Would you come from? The great white north down to a steelers game. That was only fill that half capacity. No, you have to pay. More for the tickets and normal well, I mean that Canadian conversions probably gonNA be real killers, probably GONNA be a couple of weeks pay, but. You know I think I still would, but I think I would want to bring this back. Did bring it to the Canadian football league. Who's actually has a bit of attendance problem as it is, and just going to like a half filled stadium. It's really like sucks the atmosphere completely out of it it's it's a completely different experience and honesty. You can see the the The capacity numbers dropping lower and lower and lower less people are going as at experience seemingly gets worse every year. It's a little bit quieter and people are just not as into it, so you know what I think as the year goes on. Though season ticket holders like yourself like they might just be like. It's not that fun like I got a better experience at home. So in that sense I feel like as year goes on, you see a little bit less people, but I think when it kind of gets back going just based on 'em and being stuck at home, I think a-. Think would love just to get out. Times feel just an incredible environment as it is, but it loses a little bit of the lesser when there's only half the amount of people there. Yeah I know what you mean. I've got to answer this question because vodka drinker. In the live chat all time since how many times have you caught the flu going to a game I've not caught the flu going to steelers game, but one of the most. signet, one of the worst had in my life. I actually caught it both my wife and I caught it going to a penguins game in Washington I don't know if it will be metro. With stadium we went. We went down there for a game and we came back. We caught one of those animal fluids. If you know what I mean, could you had the swine flu bird flu, you know? We caught something very similar to that. At a like I said I still think it was the metro personally i. don't think I. Don't know that it was from the game but I. that's the only time I've ever got sick from going to some other than maybe you know like. Bake! Have.
Where Does Cam Newton Go From Here?
"Jeremy the first line of your story is. He can't go out like this. It's kind of crazy to me that that is even being said about Cam Cam Newton in the first place. If you look at the situation with the Carolina Panthers and Cam Newton a guy that called Superman of former. MVP It is just hard to make sense ESPN NFL writer. Jeremy Fowler has spent the last few weeks reporting on Cam Newton's future going into the season of you to tell me that Cam Newton would potentially be on the way out of Carolina and there will be this big mess I would not by any stretch have believed you before we get into the confluence of factors that led us to this moment. Explain why it's so unusual to even be having a conversation like this about a quarterback like Newton will mean. It is crazy because he changed the game game. This is a guy that was bred to be a winner from his days at Auburn he won the national championship number. One overall pick set rookie records Kurds for total yards on winning. MVP in two thousand fifteen three different seasons of ten or more wins. Everything was lined up for this guy to be a top five top top ten quarterback for the next fifteen twenty years. Just terrible lineup. What an improvisational improvisational play by CAM? Newton he altered the way. We look at the style of the quarterback position. Because we've seen running quarterbacks before but this is a guy. I was flipping into the end zone quarterback. He's making the superman sign with his arms after scoring and and you know he was Such an imposing figure that he looked like a combination of a pass rusher linebacker and a running back coming at you full speed and the whole the mack truck. That was something ended. The League really hadn't seen before goodness isn't this is the NFL. You're not supposed to be able to do that. And then there was the off field appeal. This is a guy who would show up to. His press. Conference was a fashion show. He's got the bedazzled hats glasses being able to be Orally gifted. There's something that I think. A master to a degree. I mean this is a guy that we couldn't take our eyes off of whether whether he was on the field or do you think his style of football in some ways impacted his body in a way that led us to this point it has to be a factor. I mean we're talking about a guy who's taken eleven hundred plus hit since two thousand eleven and more than half of those have been in the last four years since around two thousand fifteen. That's more than Russell Wilson. More than any other guy. Things have piled up on them as a result he was all about power shear power that was part of what made him so great. He did bulldoze you in the open field. He could run for the thirty yards and so just. The pounding as a result has clearly affected where areas now so the first few years of camps career sort of builds towards this magical season in two thousand fifteen. He's the MVP and it all leads up to the Super Bowl and what should have been a high point for him ended up being a low one the pants lose and perhaps unfairly the the indelible memory for a lot of people is the fumble. He failed to recover. Do you think that game changed perceptions of him roll. It stripped him of his invincibility. One one personnel told me the Denver took his Superman Cape. They took it away and he was never the same after that. And that's probably unfair because it's one game on the the biggest stage but you know. Denver played a certain way where they kept hitting them. The seven six rushing four-ball comes out of the hands on the ground still on the ground picked up by the yard line. And since then cam sense of some really good moments but it's been a little hit or miss even on the field when he is in the lineup and so it was a turning point for a career that was at a wildly high trajectory at that point you're talking about not only an MVP season but he could get into the end zone. Whenever he wanted that year it was just? He played a pretty much flawless season. And then it all SORTA changed after that game so that super bowl will is kind of a turning point for Cam than what happened last season in two thousand eighteen well last season he was a potential. MVP candidate after the first eight or so weeks. The panthers are sitting at six and two Newton looks great. He's got nineteen total touchdowns you know he's rushing but he's also being patient the pocket making throws so this was a team That was on the rise and was sort of recapturing. Maybe the magic. They had a couple years earlier for that. Super Bowl run so it was nothing but promising at that point an annual in early Donovan. Where you go to Pittsburgh you go to Heinz field? You're thinking this'll be another turning point for your season and then TJ comes the blindside. He knocks Cam. Newton he runs right into that right right shoulder into the turf and he had already been on the injury report with a shoulder injury. They didn't think it was serious at that time but watts shot clearly reaggravated things to the point where by by the end of the year he was struggling to throw the ball. Forty forty five yards. I mean it was pretty ugly out there right. I mean he wasn't pulled but I remember number. They stopped using him for Hail Marys I N. It became apparent that something was deeply wrong. Throw by CAM. It didn't reach. The end zone landed fifteen yards short of the goal line. This is a guy that could throw sixty five yards on a rope. And so they're taking them out putting Taylor Heinecke of all people to throw a deep ball. I mean there couldn't have been a deeper foreshadow for maybe the problems that were rising with Cam Newton's future alright so he ends up shutting it down for the last two games of that twenty eighteen season and in the off season. He has some shoulder surgery but by the time this season starts it seems like he has recovered and things are looking optimistic again for Cham. How does the twenty nineteen season actually began for him throwing the ball? He looked pretty tentative. No touchdown passes in the first two weeks. He didn't really look as comfortable normally. Does you know that you can win games with them but certainly not an MVP level that. They're there used to so after the panthers second game against the Bucks. It's revealed that Cam has some kind of foot injury but nobody really knows what's going on right. There's a lot of mystery around the injury and all of a sudden campaigns out this fifteen minute youtube video go here we are just record. I want to be brutally honest. The video was him. Basically Chilin in a hat and glasses passes and he's in like this leather black chair and he opens up about his foot injury as I'm about to jog around realize okay. Uh I feel like in the game but it's like something missing. There was a bit bizarre. But it's it. It was good that he came on spoke about it. And try to provide some clarity and in that video basically said got hurt. preseason hurt the foot against the Patriots this is where I got him away because automatically. I got play we go. I can't let fans down. He basically told coaches. Hey I'm good I'm all good. You know I'm Superman. I can continue to play. And then once week two-headed reaggravated the injury. What happened offended with this footage metatarsal bones and they separate from the base of the? That's a list rank injury but if it's a really bad separation or some sort of break then usually need surgery. Cam has not had that yet which pretends everybody to believe. He's got a sprain but a pretty bad one just hasn't healed yet but he doesn't want to have surgery. I'm able to get the time off for me to. He'll get back to one hundred percent then. I have no doubt in my mind everything everything that we won't as a team can still be accomplished. He made clear in the video that they need to go away and get back to what I was. and that's significant anytime. A player says that that means they're out that doesn't mean they're going to rush back to play and so he basically new I think at that point I was GonNa shut it down

"They roll out at a Heinz field. Have you ever read Heinz field? No, I've been there. It's okay. You know, the people walking in her a little shady. But there there were five Canadian Football League players it worked out for the Bengals this week. So they may be trying to lobby the league dab one hundred ten yard field because they might figure. You know, why not right? They get. So. They got they got three more on injured reserve that's now eighteen and. We'll see what happens Sunday. You know, what here's the deal? Every team has injuries. But what a lot of people don't realize. There are very few teams that can actually win football games when they're starting quarterback and their best player are both gone for the year. Correct. So you got Dalton now. And he got green out bright the guy that was allegedly the epicenter of your defense. He's got like scrambled eggs for brains. Now, that's true. And when he doesn't he's not getting concussed spending sixty or seventy million dollars to write than they just signed him right year ago. That's for sure I mean half those guys you couldn't find with a search warrant and the and the defensive secondary is they might as well put you in me back there.
