‘Ellen DeGeneres Show’ Workplace Is Under Investigation By Warner Media
"Reports of a toxic work, culture and crew furious over poor communication during the Corona virus shut down. Despite the bad reports, there have not been any direct allegations made about Ellen herself. For more on all the bad news that the Ellen Show will speak to Matt Donnelly Sr. Film writer at Variety, so essentially human resources representative for both the production company that makes Ellen just called Tele Pictures and Morning brother. It's which obviously, areas the program or distributes it have both come together and sort of pursuit of information about sort of the day to day experience for Ellen's employees, a member, we have changed the sort of reference the stories said that their goal is to ultimately create a work environment where ever wanted sort of protected. And also can sort of advance and flourish and safety, So I think it's you know, a pretty responsible move on their part, But at this point, what we know is that they're reaching out to current and former employees to discuss their experiences, where presumably will conduct as sort of a larger report about what if anything, needs to change their Now, let's talk about these two reports just to kind of see what we're working with here. Back in April, Variety reported on the treatment of crew members during the Corona virus locked down so very loosely when things initially shut down, there was crew members who were saying that we weren't really being told what was going to be the fate of our ours or our pay. And then when Ellen's resumed some sort of filming at her home, they were kind of left out of the lurch on that, too. And I guess they hired Nonunion workers to do that work instead of them. Yeah, A lot of the sources we spoke with who are familiar with the production basically say that her long term crew people have been with her sums of the entire 17 year run of the show. Just expected a better level of treatment in terms of if and when they would come back, You know, up until the moment we published a report that Legacy crew was told to sort of expect dramatically reduced compensation, even though the show of going on filming at the normal rate, so I think a lot of people thought sort of betrayed in away by mixed messages, especially for someone who's banner. Heather staying for her jealous to be kind, and some say this is very difficult situations, obviously, in the confusion and chaos of the Corona virus pandemic that hidden in some ways, it makes sense. Maybe hire those non union workers because they have to do something, maybe things that the union might not have agreed for their workers, depending on safety, and all that, So sometimes those things make sense. But they were just saying that They weren't even afforded that choice or whatnot. Of course. Yeah, I think it was a lack of transparency that really got people. And yes, you know, Krone viruses cause such a dramatic ripple effect how we do or more specifically how we don't do production at the moment. So, yeah, the union might have to look the other way occasionally on getting some people back to work instead of, you know, sort of a massive sun town. But again, I think it was that sort of lack of care. That really got to some long term employees. Yeah, and the pay was also an issue. I know. They told them you're gonna get reduced hours or reduced Pay that way. But shortly after you guys posted your story, then it started coming out. Well, well, they're going to get paid their full amount. They're full pay all that stuff. I think that the production sort of realised, But the right thing to do was especially because if you follow the logic through if they were taking the same amount of episodes, that means that this is going into syndicated viewership and selling the same amount of advertising No one's really losing money on the end. It's just obviously out of an abundance of caution here to figure out how to actually make the show. But you know again, and I think Hollywood is a town that when your staff looks the way that l Inez and you've got no. Ah, working family or some people put it in the over 17 years, they expect you to cover them The way they've covered. You end up with a large part of the frustration and you know another thing. That was in that same report was that you know, no one had even stepped in and said, How are you? How are your family? How is your mental house? Which I think a lot of companies, you know, including the publisher Variety. Ah, lot of people didn't do that. You know that They were here for you. If you knew Greece sources that child care if you need meditation class you any number of things to sort of band together in a really unprecedented in highly stressful time. A lot of people thought that that wasn't done and we're quite surprised. The other part of this. In mid July, Buzzfeed published a report alleging a toxic work culture there. There was an employee who said that there was some racist behavior going around and a few other things that just really made working there on the show, not really tolerable. The budget reports have sort of a spectrum of accused behavior that is troubling from to start a sort of ID on that atmosphere of intimidation and fear. You know, there was some accounts of verbal abuse their accounts of sort of, you know, an idea that overall senior leadership it Alan felt, but no, it was a privilege to work there. And anyone who might complain about sort of the emotional atmosphere. Even working conditions could just move on because they couldn't find anyone else who had died of work, Carella It's a much more serious stuff like sensitive people of color on the head from jokes about two African American females being taken for each other because they have the same hairstyle to another employee being sort of shouted down an angry and resentful because she suggested that the entire staff received diversity and inclusion training. You know all this is supported by historians. That's quite serious, especially, I would say in the world we live in, which is a post me to world and if you even look at what's been happening in this country in the past two months There is it's incredibly justifiable demand for a lack of this toxicity and for transparent, clear on how we're all treating each other at work. Not one thing that I found interesting is that there is no specific

ACC sets 11-game slate, includes Notre Dame
"Well, the A C C proven not to be a bunch of huckleberries because their board of directors got today got together on Wednesday. They're gonna have an 11 game football season beginning the weekend of September 12 and Notre Dame is going to be a part of that. Playing a full league schedule. But on Ly if public health guidance allows all a cc schools and Notre Dame will play 10 conference games, plus one not conference game of their choosing, And guess what. Fighting eyes will be held over the championship game, and there will not be any divisions for this season on Lee. Heather Dennis, ESPN Council football reporter When she was on SportsCenter. She told how this decision by the A C C will affect the other power five conferences. Well, let's start with the SEC and right before we got on the show here. I got a statement from Greg. Thank you, the SEC commissioner, he said. He's not about to speculate on anything that might be floating out there, he said. We continue our discussions focused on the return of fall sports, including football. We will announce any decisions at the appropriate time. That's a statement from SEC commissioner Greg Sang Ki. I can tell you that the SEC presidents have a regularly scheduled previously scheduled I should say video conference tomorrow. So everybody's watching that Big 12 Conference commissioner Bob Bowlsby told me that the Big 12 presidents are going to be meeting on Monday and they will be presented four or five different scheduling models, he said. We're going to arm them with all the information they need to make a decision if that's what they want. Two
Heather Pearce Campbell: The Lawyer You Want To Know
"You know I've often thought Is there an attorney in your life that you actually could like and Is it true that you can actually meet an attorney that you could have a fun and laughing relationship with well? I'm going to say not just yes, but a hell. Yes, so today's guest heather. Pierce Campbell she is a warrior Mama a nature logger, dedicated attorney and a legal coach for world changing. Entrepreneurs Nice Guy Community that is you she's. She's the founder of Pierce. Law P L L C home to her legal practice and legal website worrier. I'm trying to figure out how to get her to shorten that name. A little bit and in or online business that provides legal education and support to information in provides information, entrepreneurs, everywhere, coaches, consultants, online educators, speakers, and authors around the world. This jam and she is here on the show with us today. Let us bring our on Heather Pierce. Welcome. To See. You Doug I'm so happy to have you here. You are way up in the northwest in Seattle so right now. You told me based upon the lockdown mode that we're in right now. Your kids at some. They're creating some havoc. Right behind that door buying. Knew they could come through any second. Let's be honest. Yes, our level of parental control is quite low. So, let's talk about that for a second because you, you have been somebody that has has been online well before this covid crisis hit, and so talk about the differences between before and after covert, and then I wanna get into how we can help a whole bunch of entrepreneurs that are out there. Oh totally. No and that's a great conversation. I mean so many people right now. Online is maybe their only option right so if people weren't online, they're scrambling to get online people who were already online or going online in a bigger way for me personally I have felt the biggest pinch really around scheduling. Being mom, fulltime, and trying to still run my business I, mean I went from like having too much work in the day, even with a full day and childcare to now having way too much work in the day with being mom and everything to my kids and home schooler to my seven year old so the challenges are real, and I've also watched for ways that I can do things differently create efficiencies in my business, or if more people being conversation with more folks who need help, so I personally launched an ask me anything live. That's been going for several months now every Monday. Monday so alive, and people just show up and ask all kinds of legal questions, and I try to serve the heck out of them, and point them in the right direction and give them resources. So that's been a really fun thing to try out. Okay, where where is that because that's new to me so I don't know about and maybe you probably because I am a client of heathers and said Hey I wanna have you on the show and and she has wanted to come on the show since we met just a few months ago. Like where do people get that and how? How? How much of a client attorney privilege to having that much. Going online environment and still feel. Ca You know have that level of confidentiality with clients? Yeah, so that's a great question, so let's be clear that this is not me. Serving people in the context of attorney client relationship this the best way to couch. This is that people can show up and ask questions and I would respond like I would to a whole group. which is that like in this circumstance what I generally recommend XYZ obviously can't be specific legal. Legal Advice, but a lot of business formation questions contract questions. They're the same across states. Anyway, so it's really like an educational call. People can get pointed in the right direction. You know if they've something that is Excuse me specific to their home state like a legal issue that would require. They have an attorney licensed in their state. I mean I always recommend that if they're able to do that that they connect with an attorney in their home state, but. I'm also clear that that's very impractical for a lot of folks to hire an attorney. One on one for you know simple legal questions, which is why I choose to show up and serve people not way. How have you found that over the last few months? Especially did this. Did this arrive as a part of was inspired by the crisis that we're dealing with right now or only? So. How found the reception by those that are out there in the community and trying to take advantage of of of getting some legal answered? You know it's good. I'm limited by my ability to give people enough advance notice so often times I'm sending out the reminder email like first thing. Monday morning in part just because I need to hire more help in my business running some things so there are times where you need. Somebody says hey, heather. You're actually going to be on the air tomorrow at noon. Maybe you think about putting a message out well. That's kind of how we drop this. Which is why we don't get which is fine, which is interesting? I guess it makes sense we don't get. A lot of people necessarily focused on on viewing this live but I look back to the replace, and there's hundreds of replays in some cases of some of the episodes, so it is you're you are providing advice in. You're providing good legal sound information. Maybe they're not getting it at that moment, but maybe. Maybe they have that same question that you're answering so even a week later, if somebody goes back and watches that just to put in your commentary. Here's some of the stuff that we talked about just in case you're open to that. That's right, and that's exactly what I do. I post him to my Youtube Channel had lots of people ask questions and. Email me like what about this and I'll be like. Oh, I just covered that on Monday. Here's a link to the to the livestream so the recording obviously, but it's it's been well received for people that show up the thing that has fascinated me. 'CAUSE each call. We've averaged like six seven eight. People's not a huge group, but I expected people to jump on. Ask a question and jump off. They're staying for the full call, and so I'm having like an interesting conversation with six or seven or eight people for an hour one call. It went for ninety minutes
Melatonin, CBD, Creatine, and Immunity Boosts
"Chris Welcome welcome to another episode of. Ask The guys here. We have a title. So here we are. This is what I would we do. Five or six other episodes like this before it's been a while and well we've done. One and people have been asking so you are again Chris is. Chris Irvine. On that nailed it the Kitale tallest. Trying to new break out a little bit more and changes named you just name. We talk about so. Talk about what you're stuck. We'll talk about it off off off Mike. Be Out. We're GONNA. Talk about stuff. Hopefully, not everything Joseph's. Chris's our resident expert here. BIA curiosity so cuny time. This one is about supplements if we got a lot of questions about. Settlements how to use them when to use themselves. Fire him off to see. We have all right so first question we have is from Heather N. and the question is should I supplement with Melatonin? If I'm having trouble sleeping so I would say no, and we can this. This is in my newsletter couple of weeks ago I. Don't know if you read that, but tour down a little bit. MELATONIN has its place. It is a precursor to a letter to the. Is Naturally secreted by your brain anything that's naturally secreted by your brain. I'm not a huge fan of. Taking Sasha Sisley. This is actually if you look at it, it's the only hormone that you can get without a prescription. Technically. Hormone your body. It's the only way you can get without a prescription interesting, yeah! I mean I. think my thoughts with Milton I think the answers that depends because I think it depends on. If you are living a lifestyle that allows you to produce it naturally so I think if you're a night shift worker, or you're somebody who is able to. You know if you're not, it's not the first step you should take if you're having trouble sleeping so I if you if you're not checking the boxes. With you're trying to improve your sleep quality then you shouldn't be turning Melatonin, but if you are work your work, circumstances are living circumstances. Have you in a position where you aren't going to be able to produce a lot of Melatonin? Naturally then I think you prior getting good sleep is going to be important, and if Melatonin can help that I think it can be a good song. Yeah, so the question is what is melting do and how is it? Producing one is produced by the body naturally. Melatonin essentially just tell you about it activates cascade of different Newark. Chemicals screwed that basically tell you buy. It's time to go to sleep. At screened by Pinal Gland I believe. And it is. Associate with a lot of things, light is major one. So what happens is most people don't. Fall Asleep with the sunset right and so the sun normally go down in all human history, and for every other analysts happens. By starts up regulating melatonin. melatonin sort of master switched. Those tells the rest of your body's going down and shutting down for arrest. When this doesn't happen. Can Be hard to go to sleep, and only that cannot stop you from getting into different stages of sleep as fast as you normally would, so you may be unconscious, but that doesn't mean you're getting the restorative sleep that you normally would so. Why is this problem? While people are after the sun goes down, they're exposed to blue light on their screens fluorescent lights in their house. The suppresses Melatonin production. So if that's the case, you have no other option. Maybe it's a good idea to take it I would take it regularly, but it at the same exact time. You shouldn't be producing it all over the place, so it shouldn't be off the map like. If you're taking Melatonin and you taking it one eight PM. One at ten PM. One and seven PM. In place you basically telling your brand that you're traveling in time zones back and forth and back and forth so I would focus far more on this is a last resort, and for special circumstances moving which we can get into, but the number one thing that I do when I go somewhere as If I have blue light, blocking glasses I blue blocks. and. There's a bunch out there. That's the ones I prefer. If I can't control the lights on my house. I've liked that dim when the sun sets and turn red and orange, after the sun has set, so those are wavelengths that do not. Suppress, Melatonin and this why the lends them blue light blocking glasses, the sandy fill blue light. You think about it like if you're outside at a campfire. The Ladies Very. Orangish, Yellowish Reddish Hue, there's very little to no blue light in there, so that's all from the sun so. Removing that from your day to day, life in is consistently as possible so that way you're not getting these weird signals of your body that you're switching time zones against another completely natural thing for humans to go through. That would be a huge thing, but I think there's a Lotta other things why people aren't getting good sleep, and so assuming that it's because of your lack of Melatonin production is i. think a little silly I think that you could look at. Obviously light is a huge one temperature of your room and then. The ability for light the in your house from. Blue. Blue. I'm trying to your. Shades. blockers no time. Look. light-blocking shades trying to say here. Oh blackout curtains blackout. So those are a good thing, and then we have lights actually if you're in a city where there's a lot of additional light, yeah, we have then lights that turn on the sunlight. One Sunrise should be happening. So this is another. Thing that happens. Has People Get Blackout Curtains? And then they don't wake up to the sun, which is again? In the wrong direction, so we actually have lights that turn on. As the sun rises locally, so you can just do all this stuff is super easy, Philips. Hue Lights, but we have. Great and Eating Super Close about times and I WANNA. Thank people you way too close to bed. I put at least three hours before you try to shut down and mental stimulation is also too much, so people are worried about this at that looking at the news. They're watching TV. They're just in. There had even hanging out with friends like I've done last couple of nights. You know people talk. Nine nine thirty s usually go to bed then I get home and it looks super stimulated. I can't sold out for a couple of hours. There's a lot of reasons why people wouldn't be able to sleep or feeling Russ restless. Having lack of militant brushes by news worry about? Your thoughts here. Will agree with that I. Think the the two things I would add to. That I agree that like I think it's a last ditch. Thing that you need to try. There's a of other things you can get in check with your environment and with your health habits before you need to turn to that supplementation. Do things I would add for helping is. Sleeping with your phone either out of room, or at least face down or not sleeping with the television on. There's some really interesting research out there that even when your eyelids are closed in your sleeping, flashing lights can cause face shifts in your circadian rhythms that can suppress Melatonin production or ramp up cortisol in the middle of the night. Things like that so. That's can be as simple as having your phone facing up and it lighting up while you're sleeping. That can completely threw off your sleep. So I thought that was really interesting thing when I was reading that studies. That would be a big thing. To consider and then. There's there is some interesting research on Melatonin for neuro degenerative diseases where you know, it seems like as we age, our natural production of Melatonin starts to decrease in. They've done studies where supplementing with it in elderly populations really increases cognitive function. That actually just came out this year I. Think showing that so like you said I think it's either. It's either a last ditch effort, supplement or something used for very specific circumstances.

Put words in your mouth David. That's probably what made you miss it because what we've just watched so sums up so many of the things that we love about tennis I would say that's true. I also think it's it really does encapsulate the the Wimbledon that I knew as a kid, and as a teenager before Tim Henman came along when British though there was a big gap where? I had not known British contenders for the title. At this time, investigators say Rivera likely drowned, but it's unclear why answers may not come until her body is found in an autopsy is performed. Thurday search teams scoured the murky. California lay coping defined the thirty three year old actress divers say in some areas they can only see two feet in front of them under the water. It's it's a lot by feel. There's a Lotta shrubbery in in sticks that we have to break through the water. Where the boat was found is about thirty feet deep and filled with vegetation. If the body is entangled in something beneath the water, it may never come back up. One of Rivera's Co Stars on the show Glee was Heather Morris, who tells NBC News She would remind me in moments like this. Tolling in the mix as a funding option to pay for West Seattle Bridge fix
"Have started talking how to pay for repairing or replacing the West Seattle Bridge and yes, what's in the mix Tolly. Bortles. Chris has the latest on this. We don't know what the total B no, but it's being, but it's being wrapped up like a gift so that it can When it's open, weaken under a pit and see this beautiful new bridge. Well, maybe maybe not paid for it. Yeah, because right now we don't know if we're going to replace it and repair it. That decision still hasn't been made seriously. There's still talking that yes, they think this wrap could actually make it traffic worthy o. The rap would allow them to get it on there tool to make whatever fixed I think that all of the rap is going to do is to keep it from crumbling on its own and to pray, give a little extra ability to put load on it to see what they could do to try to repair it. But we haven't made that choice yet. Right now. We're talking about financing whatever decision They do come up with in downtown mobility Director Heather Mark says. Everything is on the table. You need to explore every funding option because my favorite joke about this is we're going to need five bucks from everybody. It's unlikely that anyone funding option is going to be enough. So we have to pursue every funding options. And if you alluded to day that includes the T word, which is now tolling. Right now. There is no real understanding of what tolling would actually mean for this project, or how much tolling would be needed to help fund it. Mark says. A complete investment grade traffic and revenue study will be done to get at those answers. It's gonna investigate tolling scenarios and related traffic diversion. That traffic diversion has an impact. And so this study would help us described and understand what kind of impact that diversion would have on the rest of the system. As you would imagine. Even the thought of tolling is that something that people in west Seattle are really fired up about one in terms of being for it. Dan Austin runs a restaurant in West Seattle. His Well, his customers have been telling them. Yeah, I don't think people are gonna riot. If there is a toll is been very clear from my customer base in evil I speak with, he says West. Seattle's been through enough, West Seattle said 12 years of traffic disruption between the Spokane Street whitening Vaida tear down, And now this this wonderful project we're going to get charged for being disconnected from the rest of the region. It's gonna It's gonna be a hard sell for folks. So when we say everything is on the table, I mean, we're talking federal dollars grants, loans moving current dollars from other projects and priorities, and you know the shell game that goes on there. There could even be a citywide ballot measure to approve new taxes to fund this project. I mean, they're grasping at straws to try to find ways to finance this certainly concerned the way that the federal component of projects like this has gone down over the last several decades, and you know through a pandemic. It's not like people are opening up their wallets to these kinds of things. As for the bridge itself. Contractor task was shoring up the cracking span is close to getting the first sections of carbon fibre rap installed. We are excited to be on the bridge and doing this work to stabilize it on significantly mineral minimise the risk of collapse in the future. City Bridge. Engineer Matt Donahue says the contractor should be hoisting the work platform into place on Monday. They're cutting holes in the bridge. So that we can take wire rope hoists that air amounted to steel frames. Place them on the top of the bridge, dropped those wire ropes down through the holes that we cut for access. Then pick up a lifting frame that's currently sitting next to the bridge. Then they're going to do some post tensioning work to try to shore things up. Take the load off. The bearing that's having the problems there on the on one of the piers, get it out of the way, and then they're going to start with carbon fibre rapping. As for the replacement side of the equation, the city will take a complete look at the tunnel option that was made clear during the task force meeting yesterday. That's going to be added to the cost benefit analysis, So it appears the tunnel is going to get at least a fair shake from the experts as a potential replacement. Going forward to this cracking span. I'm trying to imagine how this is gonna work. So there's this carbon rap doesn't come on rolls like cellophane, and they just wrap it around the concrete. It's basically I think, as I describe it to you before it looks and feels too. My best guess kind of what you do with a cast these days. You know that kind of the you know the ones that colored cast And you and yes, you mean you wrap it around, and what it's trying to do is, you know, keep the cracks from moving at a little, You know, add the support to it so they can actually put people up on the bridge safely. That will help mitigate Yes. So they're basically going to wrap it there. Some pictures will be upon the bridge just to wrap it. Don't that is correct and underneath. That's what this lifting platform is going to do. I mean, they're going to put the giant Hoisting mechanisms. They're on the bridge. But and then you know, short up from that way from underneath and around and then do the post tensioning. So it's It's Yeah, me. Basically, it is what it is. They're just going to wrap it in this carbon fibre to make it as strong as it possibly can be to handle the extra load and see if they can Restricts some of this. The cracking in its start turning this thing, the other
Police Body Cam Footage Is Being Used For Surveillance, Activists Say
"So there are big differences in the police reform bills that Republicans and Democrats are pushing in Congress. One thing they do share in common is more money for local police departments that promised to use body worn cameras. But some activists say that police departments are inappropriately using these cameras for surveillance rather than accountability purposes. Member station. Cage's easy in Phoenix. Heather van Block, Lind reports. Cleveland Ali is an advocate for indigenous sacred sites and a self described anarchist and peaceful protester. But police and Flagstaff didn't agree at an event a couple of years ago into 1018 the same day that the city of Flagstaff formally announced there Indigenous Peoples Day celebration, which actually has been contentious for years. Myself on DH. 40 people rallied in downtown Flagstaff. The rally lasted a few hours, with protesters marching through downtown, holding signs and chanting. Police walked alongside keeping roadways clear for traffic. Everybody went home. There were no arrests until three weeks after the event when police brought in Manali in about 10 others on charges of obstructing the public thoroughfare. Based on footage from body camps. Sonali says police actions against his group are not about public safety, but politically motivated. We're fighting on the grounds that this is an act of state repression, basically that you know they're trying to chill descent. Undermined ascent and criminalize it. Dave Moss with the Electronic Frontier Foundation says. Police warned body cams have turned law enforcement into a surveillance network. Police departments are making decisions about surveillance technology at parties and hotel rooms in closed door meetings with salespeople with marketers from tech companies who are trying to tell them about all the miracles of the technology, but not telling them about any of the risks. And we need a process where the public is engaged, elected representative. They're engaged and it's not just a sales situation. He says. Police should not record footage during First Amendment activities like journalists at work or during a religious practice or any and all protests. Ultimately, if we're trying to address police accountability if we're trying to address racism, Layering on surveillance is not going to help that. It's going to exacerbate it. But when Seattle police said they turned off their body cams during so called First Amendment events, protesters there accused them of trying to hide evidence of excessive force or abuse. It's not a new debate. Concerns about how Bodycam footage can and should be used are as old as the cameras themselves. Some police say surveillance cuts both ways. Officers can have bodycam footage is used as evidence against them, and just like video can lead to officers being arrested or dismissed for bad behavior. It can also exonerate them. Right now. Policies on body camera use very widely. There's no federal standard bills from both parties currently before Congress can't mandate, local police departments use body cameras. But only say they must if they use new federal funds to buy the
Coronavirus cases skyrocket amid positive June jobs report
"Things are turbulent. We got positive jobs news this week. On a potentially significant delay, cases of covid nineteen continued to rise. You might not even realize it, but lots of black lives matters. Protests are still happening around the country, and the Hamilton musical has finally arrived on streaming platforms. Let's chat a little bit about. About the week that was with me today we have genus malic at the New, York Times and Heather Long from the Washington Post. Hey to hey, molly. Hey, moee Hi there, so I wanNA start with Gina, and this this jobs report with of course the caveat you heard at the top. which is that sure these are some numbers at a moment in time four point, eight million jobs were added in June, but there are caveats right. Absolutely so four point, eight million jobs is a huge number, but so is eleven point one percent, which is the unemployment rate still even after that big gain, what we have right now is jobless rate that is higher than at any point in the great recession. This is higher than the ten percent peak. We saw the worst part of two thousand nine and I think it's really important to keep that in context because what we've. We've seen so far is the easy rehiring we've seen people who were still attached to their employer comeback. Two jobs at states reopen, but I think the real question is what happens next in down the road to these people who are still on the labor market sidelines prove a lot harder to reabsorb into the job market, and I think early signs would suggest. Yes, you know we're seeing a shift from short-term to long-term unemployment so. Unemployment duration is increasing, and we're really seeing a shift from folks who say they are on temporary layoff to folks who say they have permanently lost their jobs and I. think that's a really important thing to keep in mind. Right and heather. You had a piece this week. Looking at how even those who are still working, you know it's one thing to measure the number of jobs, people, fewer hours and lower wages, right. Yeah. That's what surprised me is we're seeing twice as many people getting pay cuts this recession as what we saw during that great recession, so another indication of how widespread the harm is, and you know we're all so focused about people who've lost their jobs and that's we should be focused on that, but there's this whole other ray of people who. Who I talked to and I know Gina does to who say look I'm only working two or three days a week. I'm back fifty percent I-. Businesses can't survive on fifty percent and workers can't survive on fifty percent of the income that they used to have so another indication. This is a long road back and I. Just keep thinking in my mind. In April, eighty percent of workers thought that they were going to be short term layoff so far we've only gained back a third of the jobs. That's a big gap between what workers expected to be backed by June July versus what we're seeing. Right well, and and Catherine Repel your colleague Heather in a rapper and occasional rapper on this show also had a piece saying. Even knowing what we know now which may even be itself beyond a delay where we're headed for an even bigger fiscal cliff as some stimulus runs out, PPO loans run out. And the virus researchers. Jean. What does this mean for? The. What does this mean for Congress and the idea of more aid? Right, so I think theories of real concern, certainly among the economists I talked to you in imagine also among the ones heathers chatting with that these positive jobs numbers are going to take some of the pressure off of Congress and I. Think are two big reasons that you would worry about that one. Is that clearly the damage that we have seen to? To the economy is persistent. It is still with us, and as the virus continues to spread throughout much of the south in the West where even seeing new damage piling up in and so there's a real need to act just to renew a lot of these measures that are about to expire at the end of July because the problem is still here. Be Some of the issues that we have with this recession were just never dealt with in the first place. State and local aid is a perfect example. You know we saw in in the cares act. We did see some help going to those entities, but it was very limited, and it was mostly tied to sort of immediate concerns around fighting the virus whereas these these. Governments that have balanced budget amendments haven't had very much tax revenue coming in. They're losing sales tax revenue altogether, and so there is a real crisis upon us if we don't deal with those issues, but we have lost some of the sort of tailwind behind that effort. heather the the Fed the Fed's minutes where out this week chair seems to get this. That's been a constant message from the federal. Reserve is a congress. Don't let this backslide know. We've seen some momentum here and don't give it up. And as Gina was explaining they're still a clearly a huge need. We've only gained back a third of those jobs and we know we know by the end of the summer. The rest of the jobs aren't going to be back. We're still going to have millions of people unemployed, and there's a real danger that some of these small businesses that have just barely been making it. They've gotten these grants these. These P P P grants. Do we really want to see them? Go Out of business in September October because we didn't kind of them a little bit along so i. think that's what's really mind boggling to people. There's also other issues that are popping up. We reported in the Washington Post. There is an alarming spike in drug overdoses. There's also ongoing child care needs. That are really holding back a lot of workers from getting back to work these need to be addressed to an X.

Because, you know, we didn't need things we did talk to everybody. And, you know, me, I don't like to talk to a lot of people in this talking a lot of people. I don't know. Hey, thanks for where you hook greatly. Yeah. So I was just going to look at that cake. Individual cake. Because the kids were off for a week and here it is Monday the first day back. Yes. How is your morning? I just cushion an extra half hour. And so it was fine. Like, I feel like they need more time to get up and get into the routine. So I did everything earlier too. So I literally planet extra thirty minutes. So it was super smooz. So you woke them up three minutes earlier and let them happened thirty minutes earlier. And then we still got out right at this normal time. Like, LeRoy took an extra half hour. Honestly, that's genius. Like, I feel like if you know, look I knew going into the night before. And like, okay, I'm gonna lay out all the clothes put up a lunch things out. So it's like a quicker thing and just start thirty minutes before. And so then it's not as painful because otherwise I started to be like, I've asked you ten times together bit of Ed. But this time it's like I woke them up. I got one dress like you can just take a little bit more time with it. And then you don't Li they don't start their day like hurried in raising your voice. Oh, it's so smart. How did it go for you? Not so good. So I got up the normal time. And I woke did my normal routine woke up Nikki for his notes. So crazy I wake up in age order to really wake max up for as she takes longer. Yes. Have to start doing that. Anyway. So I woke the twins up laid out Nikki's toothbrush. I always did. Got max up and said hi to Mark the tortoise and then went into get the little ones and CoCo was sleeping in cat spat. Okay. Because I think she was upset last night because I had Nikki go in there. It's hard to get back into it at you're going to bed late waking up late. It's just and the freedom. Yeah. Totally. And I totally got it. I wasn't even I didn't raise my voice. I was not mad at all. So understood I just kept going. I get but she was just crying wanna go. Don't wanna go to school yet. I just give today. Like, Honey, I know I understand. But you gotta go, and I just kept talking or just keep moving along and moving along and brush her teeth for her like, I'm her ladies. Helped her with the closed like I'm or ladies made pull up underwear. Cut off the tag. New thing. She great fuller..

And that's why it's such such fund. I don't know. I remember who said it. But it was so perfect. Right. And then there's idiot going laughing and not remember having kids. We are. And it made it about himself. It wasn't about me. It wasn't about you know. But yeah after having all these conversations and talking about it. He's very very capable when he wants to. So is it just lowering all expectations for when it comes to a toast. No, I think he should get it together. I got a lot of I want to hear about because you didn't tell me about the messages you got. So we're flying in on Sunday and we land around seven, we will may or may not have to get the check luggage if it's there and wasn't lost. And then we're going to check into the hotel. We're staying at the puck rot hotel, which I've told you. I love love love not only other back-row glasses in the bathroom. The bar is divine. You haven't been there. So they're red, champagne, flutes, greened out. So beautiful and. Everyone in there is dress so gorgeous Lee, and it's just quite an experience. So we're going to stay there. Oh, and they also in the rooms like on the desk, they have on the corner of the desk. There's like a circle that lights up and they have almost a like a crystal. Think about what like a like a cake plate looks like think about a crystal cake plate sitting on top of this circle on the desk, but the circle lights up. So the whole cake plate is lit from underneath. Yeah, and they leave you like little chocolates. Oh my gosh, on the lit up cake plate, jeez, and then on the and then leaning on the just little details like the mirror in the room. If you want to check yourself is a beautiful, huge framed mirror that's leaning against the wall. And then they have a bulletin board with with a ribbon that's crossed like. Like a ham, discuss pattern and they have things stuck in there. Oh, cute. Like buck, stationary, postcard, and it's so I mean, the details of the hotel r so beautiful. The sheets are incredible. Just everything and the products in the bathroom were all Lemaire. Oh my gosh. That's insane. So it's so extra. But talk about experience. I mean, that's like definitely, yeah. The one time we were there, it was when it was when Harry and Meghan we're getting married and they have this where you check in. They have, I want to call it like a cell on, you know, just like living room very long, like a bunch of rooms strung together and in one of the rooms is a very long table. That's got a trough in it. I think it's got, no, no, it doesn't have it has bulls on it filled with champagne. Oh my goodness. So they did a high tea and a fashion show in honor of their wedding and all I didn't know about it and we were there to press. I think, anyway, but all the women were dressed like they were in England with fascinating hats and dresses event for it. That is. So they had a fashion show of wedding dresses and things it was just unbelievable. I, I love stuff like that..

"This is Heather do pros world. Here's Heather totally burned out, covered in beads, whatever I packed and got on the plane, and I decided nothing. I just got on the plane and I was sitting there and. To differ going to believe this, but I spend almost the entire flight listening to Christmas music all my God mar you. I know it's a timber, my My God, gosh. it's just. White heart just like. You cited the way they're decorating for for Halloween downstairs, and I was listening to Chris, I don't know. I think what happened was I was I had my air pipes in and I was looking at my phone. I didn't feel like watching anything. And so. Look through my music and I went, I saw like all I want for Christmas. Yeah, that and then I just started listening to Christmas music. So I went on title and I listen to Christmas music. Okay. Now you can never give me crap exiting tickers whose music do what it made me so happy, right? Yes, it is. It's just a really beautiful time that I like it takes you to a beautiful time of the year does, and I thought and you know, I love celebrating things, but it was, I don't know. I think I was just sitting there and I was so happy to not be driving. I just had a moment. And you know, Terry does all this medical legal expert work and and so he had a trial the day after we got back. So he was studying because there's a lot of briefs in depth does and whatever, and he loves it. But he's sitting seat next to me and he's studying just sitting there listening to Christmas music. Thinking about like what I want to do for my birthday, it's still don't know. But I was like, just sort of thinking about whatever it was crazy. But I had such a lovely flight, so glad. And I have to tell you I came back rested, really, I really did, and it's not because I slept. We did a seventeen hours live in minutes. Oh, you knew I ran into to kill reds. Well, really love her. So I was on in the car on the way from the airport, and I was looking at Twitter and a follow on Twitter. She said something about something Minnesota and I was looking at my, she's here and then I was looking and. Because I had seen this article about her talking about vibrators. Oh, randomly, like the day before. And then I saw she was in Minnesota, and I'm like, she's gotta be doing something Yvonne. Yeah, anyway, so I ran into her. So she cheese like a brand embassador for this vibrator company Oshii is that is so interesting. So I've only met her. I think I've only met her once or twice before that, but you remember Andy on watch what happens. Live ones asked me who I'd swim in the lady pond with like, what other housewives and you sent her. I said, Carol, you did. I did. I forgot about until after I saw her again. I'm sure she doesn't remember. But anyway, she looked so beautiful. Should her hair's gore? She just looks gorgeous and love it. We wherever you guys at Ethan at ran into her there. I'm like, I knew you were going to be here. That's so weird in love. Yeah, we had a great conversation. Yeah. And you know, talking about housewives a little bit and talked about Yvonne and whatever and just hung out she. So she is. She's like everything. I'm not. She's a very, 'cause I told Terry afterwards yet where he was wide, you picker first of all, she's beautiful, but it's not like like what we were just talking about with the boobs and the hair and the island. She's like that that cool sexy, she doesn't even try kind of hipster. Yeah, she's cool. She's edgy. She's edgy and cool. And she's so smush is yet to tell them like what she's doing, what she's working on it. I don't know. It was just cool to render. So she was in a good place and she was wearing this fabulous dress. And I was like, where I'm like, I love yours. You wearing socks with her heels to notice, oh, doctor about that money. It was just so random to see her Eden prairie. I was like, and although I noticed in her dressing room, there were flowers and snacks..

"This is Heather do pros world. Here's Heather Ben. Here's something that I want to speak on going back to the working out because it it's all really important the eating and the working out. And I think that we often get frustrated because then you know, I'll hear you and I'll say, she makes total sense. I'm gonna do what she says. Just gonna get up in the morning. I do them what happens. I'll do that for a week. I'll be like, I still don't look like her. So it's not. It's not a week though xactly, but I start getting down on myself yet. I don't see the results and I still see even if my body changes, it doesn't change to the point of that vision that I have in my head, and I think we all have to get past that and we all have to aim for the best version of ourselves. So if you do that, you know in one month you're gonna look and feel better than you did a month ago. You're not gonna look like Heather Dubrow, but you're going to look a lot better. And I look this five years ago just so you know, I didn't. I'm not saying it looked bad, but it wasn't fit like this. It takes time and like I would get to a point like after a couple of years of working out eating like this, I'd be like, oh, why? How come still in a bathing suit. I look like this and how come I can't bend over because my skin is so lose it, how you know what I mean? And Turbie like how perfect gift to be like, when is it going to be good enough? And then I started going, okay. Maybe he's right, but still you have to have your own. Vision of yourself? Yeah, lifted. We've to give ourselves a break and say, all right, well, maybe I don't have breasts anywhere, but you know what my arms look good and you know, but maybe when I bend over, I've loose skin, but at least what I stand up straight, it looks really good. You have to give yourself permission to like allow it to happen to not be perfect. Nobody is perfect and like everything else we have to stop living in the past. We had to stop looking at ourselves when we were twenty five or when we were thirty and saying, you know, I just don't look like I need to get back to that. We're never going to get back to that. Our skin is not going to reverse. No, can't really anti age. You can age better, you know, but you, I think you can. I honestly do. I think that if you eat right and you exercise and you really toe the line and again, I'm not saying never enjoy. Never have. I'm saying in general, eat well and exercise. Take supplements and live a pretty clean life for the most part. I think you actually can turn back the hands of time. You can slow them down, but you're not going to go back to looking the way you did when you were third or sure hype. And now some of us look better than we did back then. Yeah, but we are older and I think that look, we're all going to get older, cut willing. We're all going to get older, but the thing is to look forward to that and and look forward to whatever that version of yourself is coming up, whether it's your thirties, your forties, or fifties, or sixties. There's a better version of yourself coming up. And if you focus on the fine lines and you focus on the cellulite or in the little flab total, you're gonna be miserable. And it's really important for all of us to remind ourselves to embrace that version of ourselves that is coming up. That is going to be different. And yes, she's gonna be older. She's not going to look the same, but you do your, she's going to exactly, but also, but you gotta think about it this way too. It's not. I mean, yes, we care about how we look. Of course, we do. Our thing is, women is like how we look and Rex just the way it is men. Visual that you know we like to look good..
