Judge halts South Carolina’s new stricter abortion law until state Supreme Court review
"South Carolina's newly signed abortion law has been temporarily halted by a judge. Judge Clifton Newman's ruling sends the new law that bans most abortions in South Carolina around 6 weeks of pregnancy to be reviewed. Planned Parenthood sued almost immediately after the bill was signed, a judge Newman said it would end up before the state Supreme Court anyway. The law is similar to one in 2021 that was struck down after the justices ruled three to two that it violated the state constitution's right to privacy lawmakers say the new law includes technical tweaks meant to appeal to justice John few, who wrote in his previous opinion that legislators didn't show that they did any work to determine if 6 weeks was enough time for a woman to know she was pregnant. The halt means the state reverts to a restriction at around 20 weeks for now. Since that decision justice Kay Hearn retired, making the South Carolina high court the only one in the country without a woman on the bench. I'm Jennifer King

Why Rep. Boebert Is Casting Her Vote for a Kevin... But Not McCarthy
"Have congresswoman Lauren boebert, who had a mostly peaceful interview with Sean Hannity last evening and she is a great person and speaks our turning point events. I have a lot of respect for her. Congresswoman, welcome to the program. And thank you so much. It's great to be on with y'all. So tell us, what is the latest on the floor? You just voted for Kevin from Oklahoma. So tell us about that. Correct. Yes, I do believe that Kevin Hearn is the true consensus candidate. I've been getting asked many questions about who that person is that we're going to arrive on. And actually begin having these real discussions rather than just proving that Kevin McCarthy does not have the vote. I want to get to work. The American people want us to get to work. It's only been three days. It's okay right now. But we need to get a serious name in the mix that people can get behind. And I do believe that that is Kevin Hearn from Oklahoma. He was unanimously elected to the Republican study committee 173 members is the largest Republican caucus in the United States Congress. He is a businessman from humble beginnings, has built an amazing life and is now serving his country. It's an honor to serve with him. And I believe that he would make a tremendous Speaker of the House who could unite the Republican Party and get our country back on track, deliver the promises that we have made to the American people.

"Not just, it's not just for Laker fans. And it's not just for sports fans, because it's Adam McKay. He talks about politics and race and class and all of that. And it's the basketball is just sort of a backdrop for all of it. Easter is here and the Easter baskets are out. They are. And they're filled to the brim with goodies from Marshall's genga at a fantastic price. Oh, the Easter bunnies outdone herself this year. There's Gourmet chocolate plush toys. Bunny ears. Books. Hold up, bubbles? We have bubbles. We do. And I must say the kids are loving these baskets. How you feeling, Bobby? Goodness, is that a better myself, Bobby? Fabulous brands. Feel good prices. Everyday at Marshalls. Absolutely. There's a lot more interesting things going on than just the game. But of course there is also that connection. If you are a fan where you're just instantly, so as we move into this, you're going to have potentially potentially the shack and Kobe years. You've got the remainder of winning time plus coming back for a second season and all of that. I mean, you're going to have to keep up on that Chick Hearn voice because I got to be doing a lot of it. I've been doing a lot of it. I even do it just for just for kicks just to practice it because I've been we wrap the show in October. So I'm a little out of practice. So now that we're kind of inching towards going back to work in July, it's in a different register in my voice and I try to find that exact place where chick's voice was. So yeah, I'm going to have to start doing my homework again and getting back in into that headspace. I'm getting ready to go do a play in New York for a couple of months. And the voice of that guy that I'm playing in the play is totally different. So I'm going to have to put him and put him aside and pull check out of the drawer when we go back to work in July. So I've always wondered this just about actors in general. You mentioned that you finished shooting in October. Now here we are. It's just started to come out. What is that waiting process? Does it drive you crazy to have to wait that long for post production and all of that to happen and then birth finally get out when you know you've got something really cool? Well, waiting for the pickup was kind of as Tom Petty said the waiting is actually the hardest part because we premiered what two months ago, a little over two months ago..

"That sequence, unfortunately, was cut from the pilot, but that was the first time I had to really do reams of dialog to watching the basketball players go up to the back and forth on the court. So I really wanted to make sure I got that and so my breathing and all of that was just right because he could talk a blue streak nonstop for just for, you know, for minutes at a time. So I think I kind of tried to capture that and I got to the point where I would scream mirror a Laker game with chick calling it on my on my television set turn the volume down and I would just start calling games as chick as best as I could because I got so familiar with all those players at the time in 79 80. So I would turn the volume down and just do it as Chick Hearn in my house like a crazy person. Neighbors in my apartment building heard, I'm sure me, you know, magic triggering green down towards the Cooper, you know, slam damn cuckoo, all of that, sure. I'm sure they thought it was nuts, but that's what I that's what I had to do to get ready. Well, if they're watching the series, then they know why. Now they don't do that. I told everybody I told everybody in my apartment building to watch the show. So now they know what I was doing. So there's been some people who have been somewhat critical of the series that have been talking about inaccuracies in terms of pumping up the volume on some characters. We've seen a lot of people say that, well, Jerry West. He's not really that angry in real life and all that sort of stuff. What do you think about that? I mean, we've certainly seen chick. It's so far where we're at as far as what HBO has released. A lot of what we've seen from him is cutting off Pat Riley limiting the words. He's going to, he's going to say and all that kind of stuff. In terms of the portrayal of these people, how do you respond to people who have been all I can speak to, I did talk to Jeff Berman, wrote that great book. And the whole fist hand thing. I mean, that was all, that was all accurate. He kind of mentored Pat Riley. Pat Riley was a guy, you know, after he won the championship in 72. He was kind of bumming around looking for his second act and he came to chick looking for a job and chick did say, make me a demo tape and maybe you can be my color man and so that whole thing with what I hold up my fist stop talking when I hold up my hand and he kind of coaxed him and guided him and taught him how to be a color man, a sideman. So that's all that's all true. As far as the criticism of the way the writers of portrayed these guys, again, I just go back to I go back to Jeff's book and these were people who were very much up there of their time. Chico and was very much a throwback from a certain era. And so a lot of the salty language and inappropriate language that he uses is the way people spoke back then. And I think the writers captured it pretty accurately. I know there's criticism of it, but it was a different time..

"I know you guys have all been watching the show winning time over on HBO. I've got Spencer Garrett who's playing Chick Hearn Spencer. Thanks so much for joining me. Thanks for having me, Trevor. Pleasure to be here, man. Happy Friday. Yes, yes. Happy Friday, happy Friday, and I mean, look, the Lakers have not been very good this year. It's been a rough season for the Lakers. We've been calling it the worst season in Lakers history in terms of relative to expectations. So winning time has given Lakers fans something to watch to remember some better days. It's true. I guess I just want to start with this. How did you become involved with the project winning time? Of course, based on the book showtime by Jeff pearlman, who's been on this program before. How did you get it involved in this? Well, I've got to say, Jeff Goldman actually had some great words of wisdom. I saw him. I went down to his house in laguna gill several weeks ago to watch one of the episodes episode three. And I said, man, it's such a bummer that the Lakers are having such a dismal year. Right when our show is rolling out and people are loving it, and they're really, you know, they're really digging it and he said, absolutely to the contrary. He said, this show is going to make people nostalgic for the glory days and how great the Lakers were. And if anything, it will remind them about how wonderful it was and make them forget about this dismal season. So there is that, I guess. Absolutely. Forgettable, but I got involved with this. Oddly enough, two and a half years ago, we shot the pilot about two and a half years ago. It seems like a million years ago now with COVID, but I auditioned like a lot of actors Adam McKay, I guess I was on his radar since he saw me in the last Tarantino film. And I played kind of an announcer Y guy and that. And I'd approached him at the premiere of vice, one of his great films a couple of years ago. I didn't know him and I went up to him and I said, hey, I'm a fan and I just I'd love to work with you one day just like every actor would say to a great director. I just approached him and I said, you know, I love your stuff and, you know, keep me in mind and he said, oh, you've been on my radar. I'm aware. I know who you are and we're going to work together one day, cut two, three years later, the Tarantino film comes out. And I get an audition shortly thereafter for this great pilot. I'd heard that, you know, there was a Chick Hearn character, and I just remember thinking, man, I would just crush this..

"Throw caution to the wind does. There's a there's a that that strategy is always going to beat with win with a foster as good as he will make changes. He's here at the moment in the us on holiday just getting his thoughts together. You know he. He likes to speak to people. He likes to get people's opinions and he knows that he's got to be different in the rematch. Because the same. Anthony joshua with the same strategy and the same performance does not be alexander's. Well i think we saw to eddie like tyson. Fury fights a big man. He uses every pound every inch of frame to his advantage. Whether it's leaning on you or whatever. Aj for all of his great qualities never really fights like a big man. Like like middleweight. With wow he's he's active. He's looking for throw combinations. Is that something that can change. Needs to change. Think paul the frustrating thing was. There was paul vincent yoshua. The people told him he couldn't outbox alexandru sick and he believed he could bad bad. Move but that's just a little bit of the You know the you go. And he feels like he's he such a around fighter than he used to be. It's just that there's a time and place to fi- that and that was not the time in my opinion so does he need to be your thing. I think maybe a lean down a little bit too much. Maybe needs to usually size in that fought. But he's not a guy that's gonna slow roll over you and just so of drain you in in clinch season. But yeah he's very small. He's been fighting since he was eight years old. You know he's at forty four five times as much time in the ring. Nc joshua so But this is specific stall the fury fought slides very effective for him. And i j attempted to stall. That was quite. Frankly a rock for that for that challenge. Okay so you have decided to pick up the smoldering pile of rubble. That is taffy. My lopez towards kim moses which has been really snake bitten since early. The summer went to fema tested positive for covert reschedule. The handful of times. Tell me why you decided to add that to your schedule before the end of the year. Oh many reasons. I mean wanting to really good fought to been that much publicity about five but clearly ascribed to the. Yeah all all publicity is good publicity but that was negative for other reasons not towards us. It was always a great fought if my has always been since that victory over lama janko huge star and to add him to the platform to add him to the schedule is a massive win for. Especially when you're talking about ending the year with ron garcia devon heine and see if my lopez i mean the that three of the four say princes because he's strong word so it's a great look farrah's to add that fire. "You know boring fights you know are going to go to more fleet-footed fighter and You know maybe Anthony joshua has a great game. Plan up his sleeves I think that he would need to have a great game. Plan implemented very very well with this type of fight. I think that you know heavyweights as a heavyweight fight. We liked to well. They like to get go through adversity. you know get knocked down and you know Go through something. They can triumph over To you know be outboxed in you know kind of touched up a little bit not really hurt. You know i could see that you're not gonna really hurt joshua but just hit him enough to get the rounds in in in win Is gonna be very hard even for the rematch to work on something to To beat that. You know what i'm saying so i think that this is a real any anthony joshua does beat 'em This is going to be a new thing to regain that you're gonna see you're gonna have to see a lot of new things that you haven't seen before A lot of Different maybe mindsets or or a Skills you know setting him up in certain types of ways. I don't see him knocking out. six We all know that Anthony joshua has a sneaky uppercut and I think that that's just not the right. Move or sneak lou to a hurt Hosted or to catch lucy. I think you need a couple of different other sneaky moves and and maybe he'll make some During training camp. But i think that is not the best by anthony joshua so if he wins and you know he's gonna do something spectacular. How anxious are you for another shot at alexander. Sick as time goes on you know you kind of get a little bit away from it. But originally you know i. I wanted to run that back the next day you know. That's just how. I am as a fighter competitor You know i really wanted that immediately back. I'm learning to deal with it in the plot and plan on it. You know. "Yeah it's a it's kind of you know. This is unexperienced very few fighters really get to have With the purse bid. And you know now. This generation is having Is being involved more than than they ever have been of also Me being that type of you know lonestar type of fighter. I was doing my own business when it came to the purse bid It didn't really have to take come to the purse bid they're supposed to negotiate with me You know go negotiating. Good faith which they had a hard time doing. I know that them being silent him. Meaning team solid And eddie. Hearn didn't really contact me until very close towards the end where you know. I wouldn't have much of time much of a choice to pick and it was gonna go to participate and obviously you know me being a not having any back. You're not being under a promotion. Promotional banner They knew that i wasn't going to have any backing to go to purse bit early. That's what they thought Dan day got wind up trailer Being involved in you know at that time chillers undefeated when it come to first bids. I think that kind of put a little. You know. I think that. I didn't realize or didn't think that anybody who was involved with them when they found out who it was. And i think you know that's when we had a lot of different extensions it was extended for another. You know fifteen. Twelve fifteen days and Eddie hearn team starling. Where able to reach out to Reach out to trailer and kind of talked him out of bidding As we know if you know if you follow the bid Eddie was the only one to bed and they said like you know like they knew they were going to be the only ones debate but originally they weren't a trailer was you know. Kick their butts when it comes to that aired in it and they did. They did what they did as far as colin them or whoever they contact which is not really been heard of Which is one of my first experiences with. The i did But i know that. That's not that's not very common to Call other people's bait and find out what they're bidding or you know to try to talk them out of the bed which he ended up doing which was this assassin. You know that was a at least a pathway to a mandatory position what is your mindset now as you move your career forward. Is it a multi. "And i knew the judgement wasn't right so i did appeal and then i won the appeal court. How many years did it take from. Start to finish starting your first lawsuit and then to your victory on your second one. How many years did that take Well two thousand and ten was as we talked about. And then i think the trial was in two thousand seventeen and then the film You know came out and at the end of the first cut of the film. It says i lost which is where things were at when the film came out. But then i went to the appeal court in one so a new cut of the film was released. That says in a groundbreaking decision the appeal court. Overturned the initial ruling in what year was at two thousand eighteen almost like almost like a thirteen fourteen year journey. Because you bought the painting in two thousand and five and then at twenty ten at the art show you pulled it down so then from twenty ten until twenty eighteen proximate. Yep you know eight year journey almost. Yeah and there's there's more perry know the the film was the catalyst for reopened investigation by the police and It's not the end of the story. Tell us more about that. Sure i was on tour. And i got a call from a detective and thunder bay and he told me that he'd heard about the movie and he needed to see it and so i had a copy of the film sent to him and shortly thereafter. They opened a an investigation into the whole fraud. Situation and I have been working with the police whenever they need me to and They can't tell me everything but there has been a lot of progress made. They've they've interviewed a lot of people and You can expect to hear more so what we've learned an i. I've watched a documentary and there are no fakes. And what you learned is that Yeah the fix nor the nora morsel. Fakes the original ones. Don't have the signature on the back you know. They don't have that signature on the back and correct the drawing of the thunderbird on the back. They don't have that on the back. The original ones they. The original no remorse does have the the celebrex right on the front which refer yawn the front in that refers to his name. Copper thunderbird correct so so anything with on the back. Red flags automatically come up. That comes out pretty clear in the in the documentary. Yeah and i think one of the the hopes for this Investigation and all of this is that we will eventually sort of clear some of this muddiness and really bring back nor vows legacy and protect it because he is such an important and great artist. Well that's really what it's all about. You know guys like in a closing line the documentary you just said i just wanted to buy a painting and because novell more so is one of our heroes. He was so gifted and so talented. So spiritual So where does this story. Now stand in terms of investigations and the legacy of nora more so from your perspective. Can you make some comments on that. Sure well where there is the art perspective. But there's also the The social perspective you know when we learn of news as we learned you know in the last few weeks about residential schools And they're what they're finding and when you look at what we looked at in the film where there's there's young men who are leaving their communities just to further their education and they're being preyed upon there's A real connection and it really illuminates that. These problems continue and man and in different ways and so i think as we all try to work towards Truth and reconciliation and that's hard work and it's going to take a long time and commitment that all of these stories are important and they need to be heard as difficult as they are and that is my hope that that continues and that friendships and teamwork that i felt with You know dallas thompson and and other indigenous friends that i made along the way can act as an example and and can continue in other ways. Well kevin you're gifted musician in an artist and songwriter. And i know my partner valerie. And i went up to old crow. Von tech witching territory for new years. And i realized there was a collaboration. Between you in val on a song you guys were writing. And what are your thoughts on the collaboration there before we get to the issue in question on hope can you. Can you share about the song that you're you're you're writing with vowel. She wrote the lyrics. It's a it's called feet like feathers and it's a beautiful poetic lyrics. we have done A little demo of it but it needs a bridge. And i've been waiting for the bridge for about a year okay. Well that's a work in progress listener. That's work in progress. So you guys can continue working on the bridge together. Moving from that. One kevin. I want to. I always ask my guests on the podcast because this is such a tremendous story you know and you're you indeed our hero to dallas as a hero. The documentary carman's a hero for having the strength and the courage to come forward with their truth in their story about this fraud. Ring regarding the fake morrisseau paintings. But you're you're you're a hero for standing up and not giving up to seek the truth because it's the spiritual truth in that way too and now in canada with residential schools in atlanta covert nineteen in all the challenges. We have in canada. What gives you hope what gives me hope while perry Bruce cockburn has a song called lovers in a dangerous time. And there's a lyric in that song. That was my motto through this whole story and it is. You've got to keep kicking the darkness until it bleeds daylight and i think with all the conversations happening and people standing up for each other more and more in our communities. I think that's what we're doing as individuals and together. We're kicking the darkness till it bleeds daylight. We just gotta keep doing it. And that gives me hope. And that's a very powerful message to end our dialogue on. Kevin kevin hearn. Thank you so much for your leadership and your commitment to seek truth and justice regarding the the fake fraud ring of the northern. Looking back at the reaction to John Lennon's death 40 years ago today
"Today, the former Beatle John Lennon was killed in New York in an act of violence that shocked millions of his fans and then had been shot by a disturbed fan as he returned to his home the Dakota apartment building with his wife, Yoko Ono. Reporting live from the Dakota for BBC News at that time was Tom Brook 40. Years on Tom, who lives in New York, has been taking a very personal look back at his memories of that night and exploring Lenin's growing legacy today. Imagine where Snow heaven John Lennon's anthem Imagine is routinely performed by musicians and fans in Strawberry fields that section of New York Central Park dedicated to the former Beatles memory. Just across the street from the Dakota apartment building. 40 years ago, the Dakota was where John Lennon's life came to a sudden and horrific end. Millions of Americans first heard the news while watching Monday night football on the ABC network. Unspeakable tragedy. John Lennon, outside of his apartment building on the west side of New York City, shot twice in the back dead on arrival. It's half past six time for today. Good Good morning morning from from Brian Brian Redhead Redhead and and Libby Libby Purvis. Purvis. The The former former Beatle Beatle John John Lennon Lennon has has been been shot shot dead dead outside outside his his home home in in New New York York in in London. London. The The BBC's BBC's Today program was on the air, bringing first news of Lennon's death to British audiences. I had rushed to the Dakota found a public phone booth on West 72nd Street. Everyone around me. Lennon fans were crying soon I was on the air talking. Can you tell us exactly what happened. John Lennon was killed two hours ago. I got most of my information from talking to the literally hundreds of fans who are now congregating outside the Dakota building where they're going to hold on all night vigil, and it's a very weird scene indeed, because they're playing Lennon music. A lot of them are in tears and they're weeping on there, either stunned or they're hysterical. That seems like a long time ago and itwas over the years I've watched this journalist colleagues have covered the deaths of other pop culture figures, but none seem to bring forth the collective grief Witness with John Lennon. Celebrated New York photographer Bob Gruen was one of Lenin's friends. Well, the reaction to his death was worldwide. And it was such a shock. You know that he died, and then he died so violently. When all his life you've been talking about peace and trying to help others imagine peace. And here he was shot for that. But 40 years on the trauma has receded on John Lennon now has a new generation of fans some very young among them. 10 year old Yasha, Kigali's who I met in Strawberry Fields. I like the words and I like the music and I like the room and how it all goes together. I think that it's about something that is very important. Imagine novel the people today in these pandemic weary, conflict ridden times. Young musicians like Tom McKay, Hearn and Seattle really embrace Lenin's message. The fact that he emphasized love and peace and this idea of striving for something that doesn't currently exist. I still see that message is something that we need. Thinking about something that's beyond ourselves is just incredibly powerful. Not everything in relation to Lenin was wondrous. He could be mean and nasty, and he admitted that he abused women. None of this has really affected his legacy. If anything, his stature as a musician has grown since he died, it's still making an impact. As music journalist Jordan run talk explains. He has one of the truly great voices in rock history. And now you have artists like Liam Gallagher of Oasis and then modern bands like Tame Impala and cut worms who will get that very specific went and asked vocal sound because it's such a trademark. Hold someday join us. Today I live just four blocks from the Dakota. Sometimes I wander into strawberry fields. I think what I like most about Lenin was that he had an authentic voice. Not just musically. He did and said some stupid things, but he wasn't a fake something quite refreshing to ponder. In our age of endless posturing by politicians and celebrities. No problem.

Photography Book Recommendations
"I love it. When readers asked me a specific question that. I haven't really given a lot of thought to because it causes me to have to think and to share things with you. So here we go. Here's an email I received dear, Brooks I hope you don't mind if I ask for a bit of your time but I'm just beginning photography and looking for some good books to take my work to the next level I'm not talking about technical stuff. That's all over the place it Amazon. But I'd love to find something more like your podcasts on the creative side of photography. Can you recommend some good books I should read? This is from a reader named Darrell. Will Darrell that is a fascinating question. and. It caused me to have to go back into my library and really look at. The books that I own I, probably have at last count about five thousand books in my personal library on art and photography. And you know. How do you narrow that down? But nonetheless, your email prompted me to do so and I think I've got a list here that I would be comfortable in recommending of feel a little guilty in little hesitant because. There are so many books that I didn't put on the list that have been influential in my photography. But I think all of these that I'm about to share with you or ones that you could develop a really solid foundation for your creative life with the ideas that are encapsulated in these books. And I've divided the list into two groups well, three groups really but. Mainly the two groups are the five short book recommendations for All photographers. And then I felt like I wanted to put together a list of longer books that need. Study as that are probably the kind of thing that will take decades to really absorb because they're bigger books but also because they have so many ideas. The five short books are ones that I think you could all approach fairly quickly and you would find them well worth your time. They're all relatively thin books, but as has so often been said be careful of thin books because they're dangerous once they are so distilled. To the essence of the ideas. That they're deceptively simple looking. But when you get into him, you find out that there's a tremendous amount of meat and potatoes, and that certainly exists with these five short books the first of which is. On being photographer by David Hernan Bill J I suspect many many of you listening podcast or already familiar with on being photographer partly because we published it. And you're already plugged into lens work through these podcasts. So you've probably heard of Bill J. and David hearn, his friend was magnum photographer. They approach me with the idea of having. US, published this book. Oh, Gosh twenty years ago now, and it's It's never been out of print since then it's just a terrific idea and a terrific book in this book, if you're not familiar with it, basically although build offers plenty of his opinions, he functions more as the interviewer for David and it's more like a conversation between these two lifelong friends about David's ideas about being a photographer and the pragmatics of being photographer not f stops and shutter speeds and not necessarily esoteric gallery stuff but just the life of being a photographer and what that's involved with and so many good practical ideas. So that's the first one again a thin book but packed with great ideas on being photographer, David Hurn and Bill Jay. The next one is same thing very thin book. It looked like you can read it quickly it will require the rest of your life to really understand it and it's called art and fear. By David Bales and Ted Orland Ted Orleans was pretty well known I. Think because he was an ansel Adams darkroom assistant early on and he's been around photography for a longtime David. Bayles also very smart guy the two of them have had a lifelong friendship and they put down their ideas about. The art life and the difficulties of the art life in this small book art and fear, but it is so packed with ideas.

Sure. How do you navigate that in your life? Do you find that you often ask folks for their pronounced? Asked when we first met I, think you asked early very early in the conversation. Yeah. For me I interchange. So I go. Between, using gender neutral pronouns for people whose pronounce I'm not aware of or acts directly specifically more intimate interactions that acts but though. Thanks so much for joining me today. Brian it's my pleasure Diana. Look forward to sharing with your audience. Well I look forward to this conversation that we're GONNA have now. For you. People actually stands for. Powerful everyday opportunities to persuade that are less than ethical, and I have to tell you that I I love that I. That is a really awesome. And so. My first question is, can you? Share some about why Understanding influence is something that is powerful. Sure. And thank you for the compliment on the acronym I. Don't remember when I came up with it, but when I did, it was like a light bulb coming on like holy cow. This is perfect for what I do. It's powerful because everything that we talk about and when I say we I talk about the other child, Dini trainers and myself specifically. Everything that we talk about is based on research. This is not Bryan Abrams. Good advice doesn't let me tell you what worked for me or look at. That person will work for them. This is based empirical data from more than seven decades of research from social psychology. More recently, behavioral Economics I would like in it to this. If you wanted to get healthy, you could talk to your neighbor, and they might give you some decent advice, but you'd be better off looking at what research has to say from Ab Exercise Physiology Dietitians and knowing that actually works on large numbers of people, and so that's why I say it's powerful. Okay and and you say it's an everyday skill. So can you explain that like? We, use the skill of influence every single day and I like to often say from womb to tomb. We are trying to get people to meet our needs. A baby doesn't know exactly what it's doing or why it's doing it. But when it comes out of the womb at cries, it might WanNa be fed or held or burp or changed, but it has a need. It's trying to get met, and as we grow into adults. We learn different ways that we try to get our needs met. Some people learn how to do it well and some don't but is a skill that we're using every day. And I often share a quote from a called to sell is human, which is written by Dan? Pink And in the BOOKIE, sites survey of more than seven thousand American business workers who were asked the question? How much of your day do you spend trying to influence? Persuade convince people not related to making sale,

Coming Out Stories
Patrick's Coming Out Story
"Come out to hear from Patrick who's now a successful Mike artist but he got relentlessly bullied for being gay or growing up in Northern Ireland. I identify as male And I I have an interesting journey with my gender I think because I started doing drag or Soy's drag when I was about fifteen stain kind of progressed. I moved to Manchester when I was eighteen on. I pretty much was wearing full. Face to makeup wakes clothes everything every single day. I think I am used to chester. Oh God I can do this. I'm free to to wear as much as I want. And where did you come from that? You can wear what you want. I grew up in Northern Ireland so I could and I did wanted by think I was always trying to be little bit. Respectful of my parents particularly my mom because she was a little bit uncomfortable at the time about me wearing makeup and bought me wearing weeks and and looking of the Yes. I moved to Manchester and it all sort of exploded e kind of all sort of mixed together. It wasn't really drag. I've never really done to the performances. I tried failed dressing. Dressing up was dressing up and still is for me now and I kind of stopped doing it for a very long time as my career is make posits kicked off. I didn't really have any time. I think there's a good three or four years where I didn't put any makeup on at all but now I'm at a point where I wouldn't even know what it's called I. I'm a man who is gay who likes to wear addresses woman. Sometimes but I don't see myself as a drag queen but juicy self is somewhere on the sort of gender fluid spectrum may be I guess so by just don't feel like home fits with me if you turn because everyone likes putting terms things. These days I would say gender fluid would be appropriate up you would prefer gender. Fluid suspended male. I don't really care. That's the thing that when people these conversations like I think about a lot but I don't ever think about all. This is the term that identify with the most. I'm just I'm just. I'm Patrick and some does I like to lady some days. I looked like a man. Will you go out shopping or go out and make you might just as woman? No I'm on? I think that's probably why the the line is in a sense. I'm why wouldn't see myself as being gender fluid for me? Gender fluidity is someone who I probably would have been more like eight nine years ago when I would go out house with makeup on and with silly outfits on in fact my what am I. University lecturer actually brought me into her office. University and asked me should be cool. You anything different remain is that do we give you a different name? Which would like different pronoun or anything? I thought no and I thought what she questions to ask my. I'm just wearing these clothes. I didn't understand why. Why did he was different? But looking back then I was definitely much more gender fluid whereas these days it's more just address up that's quite progressive really to serve. She was a lovely woman. What's your pronouns? So it's the right way about. Isn't it to actually ask the pers- yeah definitely definitely? I really appreciate. That looking back was a lovely thing of Helen. Do well done Helen so looking back. Can you remember the first time that you may be questioned your sexuality then to know why I think I always questioned bisexuality? Once I knew what sexuality was I knew I didn't fit into the normal. I remember having imaginary friends as really young boy and I always wanted them to be boys. I always wanted to be called Tom. Which is really weird because if my flatmate listen to this my flatmates called so I don't want him to think I have a thing for the boy called Tom. I always want to hug them. I always wanted them to be close. I remember it being because they were boys. We have family video of me when I was a kid. Really really young and our next door neighbor. Child I'm running around child's Charles like calling out for him because I was probably obsessed with and then I think I grew up and I realized what sexuality was. It was like. This is always something that I've thought I've always been attracted to boys and also the messages we getting about people that were male light boys of your school in. Belfast was yes I went to school. It's an all boys grammar. School in Belfast. Very up at south one of these kind of really wheaties for school. Everything around may was telling me that everything that I was into everything I was interested was wrong messages. Where you're hearing. I think proved very young age. I was always some other was like the victim of bullying in a sense. A growing up in Northern Ireland with a British accent With Army family and Camp. So you you were bullied for being English Bison Primary School it was always English and getting a degree because of my accents and then when I went to secondary school turned into A. You're you're gay. Boy Gameboy busted. Dumbo buster bums. The walls was always a catchphrase. That was said when people woods when I would walk down there the corridor. And how old were you I mean throughout secondary school. So from twelve onwards funny because I came out and primary school do yes. It is well. This is an early one. I asked boy to be my boyfriend in Palm. He's GonNa last year of Primary School. I come into how all that would have. Been eleven eleven. The education system is a little bit different Nolan. I think he leave a year or something later. I can't really remember that I recalled. I was very good friends with him and I found him. I won't spend my boyfriend so I asked him. I remember what he said. I gotcha I gave them a note. I remember I remember sort of slipping him tonight. What he boyfriend but I recall what happened after that however I do recall giving him a phone call after school to talk to him because we would every night and his mom picks up the phone and I said speech Cowan please. Is this Patrick. So yes said well. I've heard about this. Fancying thing the what Jamaican and she said. I need to stop disgusting for how this is coming from light. This boy's mum and this is probably one of the youngest coming has gazed. I've heard you were ten or eleven. You try to get a boyfriend boyfriend then. The mother intervene jess and that was kind of that was that because I I remember being on the phone. Remember sitting on my mom's bad being on the phone shutting down the phone. That may be thinking. Oh this is wrong because I didn't really think anything wrong. I guess at the time apartments quite just wants to boyfriend but he obviously thought something wrong with it because he went straight out his mother. I so God what happened with the friendship. I mean that was the end of primary school more or less. Oh I can't quite recall whether or not we stayed friends. We probably did stay friends but when I went to different school you know secondary school so I didn't speak to him again and then there was one boy from my primary school went to grammar school with mate and I remember saying. Don't tell anyone like about the stuff that was kind of kept hush hush and then he's not telling people but don't but not until like our second year of secondary school and then everything's coming out and then I saw his playing to little bit. Once I came to terms with my sexuality and I was afraid of. I think I've sort of jumped straight into it in the sense that I had a boyfriend. I think had my first boyfriend when I was fourteen. Thirteen fourteen and he lived around the corner from my house. So we get the school bus with each other so you did you ever have any girlfriends it right into the boys in primary school. I have so many girlfriends yoga. Yeah in fact. I really love laser device. Full circle moment recently. That my my my main girlfriend primary school I have makeup for recently mostly. Nice but they would just like playing Casey chases and primary school and yeah. It's a secondary school and I had my first boyfriend when I was about fourteen and the dramas about cost because I actually joined the cadet force and my my secondary school And he was one of the one of the sergeants and he was older he must have been bus eighteen when I was about fourteen to. Everybody obviously found out about what was that reaction. Then if they like previously recalling Ubembe boy and abusing you because you are and then they found that you actually had a boyfriend in school and the school in the catas- when I think about those that are times I think buckle news stories. You know. It wasn't all that bad. I got grief everybody. Everybody has something to say. I was ostracized from everybody apart from my very very close knit friends. But I didn't ever quite lucky in a sense I never have enough. I didn't get that much abuse a on me although to be ostracized by the majority of your school colleagues. It's got to be very alienating. Very lonely place to be as well. I think actually is probably the most difficult people some of the teachers to accept or not so. I remember one of my house shooter. Whoever he was obviously being be is to shave my eyebrows off and draw them on again. Of course course I getting a lot of people about and he looks at you. You're not really helping yourself are you. And that was his way of dealing with them. Just GonNa Suck my teeth now just very much that I think about. There's so many stories from my school The head of pastoral care at my school he told my best friend. My best friend was crazy like a piece of artwork and included a picture of the two of us in makeup and to be pulled birth bus into into the school officer. Talk about the fact that we harangue makeup in this picture and he's holding my friend Anton. The Envy's children turned out to be. He gave that he would assign them not the head of Pastoral Care School. Well he's in the wrong job. I know awful. Man Said no support tool then from anyone in terms of authority figures. Yeah but I think very much. My my school wasn't a great place to be gay and with what was this. The nineties noughties The northeast expansively. Brezler not a Northern Ireland so back in in the way I mean. They've only just got marriage. Equality abortion right. Yeah exactly Hallelujah. Thank God but they're so backward. I think of my Johnny was coming out with a little bit easier than of my friends because my family are English. Not to say the Ron. Lots of very supportive very open Irish people because of course there are but I guess my family went as religious especially my dad and I didn't really have thought that traumatic past of of living in Northern Ireland. So what stage did you come out to your parents. Bearing in mind the trying to get boyfriend at the age of ten in progress and then got one by fourteen. I'm guessing he came out quite early to them you well. I came out to my Mama earlier. My Dad moved away to Luxembourg when I was about twelve. I think he moved off work. So this basically he. He wasn't really on the on the scene so I think I was about sixteen came onto him by counts. My Mum probably about twelve thirteen and it was a conversation again. Sat on the same bad. I phoned Calgary from. I couldn't say the words I remember trying to say. I think I'm gay and not being able to say gay and saying I I tell you but I caught sight yet and Saying oh I don't know and then going through listen different questions than eventually. We got to that. She's like Oh you gay. Yes yes let's sets and okay right. I think you're a bit young. So maybe we'll have this conversation when you're older okay. So then every now and then it was a diesel thinking guy and that was. That was pretty much for my mom. I mean my mom was always quite supportive. It's my my older sister is guy I was. My sister had the real hard time coming out so I could. So she came out. I know she came out later. I came up so see is five years older than me. Okay I think she was about nineteen twenty when she came out and it was traumatic. My mom would always say my gay people. I might like gay man. I just can't stand spins. And that was her catchphrase and she's very very much the complete opposite of that now. My sister's marriage has a little boy. My mom loves my sister. I think that's just Hearn prejudice her and
