"Game and saturdays are important. No we don't want to travel to nhra race and represent technician academy you know because you love racing sean. Yeah you do that on your own if you like that. But unless i'm passionate about it. I don't want to give up my saturday or sunday with my family or my husband and wife my partner whatever that means just so we can say that. We're impacting this. Because it's actually giving me a negative impact on the other side eight piece in so man. I don't know how that came out. Yeah i guess it's just part of that you know that That experience that. I'm going through this week that Yeah i i apologize. I mentioned the beginning. Two weeks ago i went through an actual procedure. I went through a colon reception or they cut out fourteen centimeters and put my cohen back together. And that was literally about nine days ago in here but here we go. Thanks. go somewhat. All over the pioneering through it as best we can and you know this is how it typically goes. We are an hour and four minutes or any into fast. So yeah so you. We ask one or two questions about the community. Boom all this stuff comes up. All the great things are happening comes out. Our impacting our connecting however mobile. However for these things but we always like to wrap up with a few personal questions and the one that i always like to ask is You know what person product or brand has the most authentic experience today like. Who's doing you're right. Thank goodness question this andrea to answer that i. Oh my god damn who's doing it right. There's i mean of course there's a lot out there i tell you what i have to be. I've totally out myself. So again i i was real clear upfront now. The most technology savvy person. But i have embraced like some things. Just you rely on that technology and it makes your life easier so how many shoutout to target on. I've been using that sweet target app to do the pickup Started during cova trying to be super safe and not put more traffic in the stores right And now that life has sort of taken a a new normal and return to really chaos. Every day every night in our household. I have really relied on just a quick to get that ordering getting central's that we need and then before after practice or whatever you know for. They closed as driving up by. I mean they really do an incredible job with that app and they do incredible job marketing their their own products on that app. Show target love on a big fan. We still have general transportation where communities can connect you know can't get to work The car breaks down. we will be. We have a family of three. We only have one knowing the manufacturers in the community knowing that you know as everything pushes north relating people behind one corridor that whole corridor of employment opportunities that could change a whole in zip code if it could Excess excess it by transportation mobility It's it's it's weird that we're always championing the future camping future but when we're looking at it i'm sure you probably have the stat off the top of your head but for our listeners. Like what percent of our community isn't connected with transportation. Do you know that number. I wish i did. I don't i don't know that number it's so interesting. You say that though because when i've been part of these different community initiatives now for a while there's The active promise zone work. That's been going on since two thousand sixteen really focused on these Downtown neighborhoods And in several of these areas we have asked that question. You know we do surveys. We we just issued a the greater evansville health survey and early. Twenty where report just came out Earlier this year And we asked about Things around kind of those social determines of health where you live and your your neighbor who he needed to be transportation those types of things but we get different answers we in the promise zone The question was really related to is You know is getting to work a barrier Is transportation of beer to get into work and it was a surprisingly lower percentage than we thought For those of us that were working in the food space Who have determined that we.

"I mean it can't be wrapped up within a day but the the duration of the actual from what i understand it can go five days. Wow i have that kind of true commitment. Yeah i don't. I can't even hardly golf. Eighteen holes without getting michael attest to get to. I get through nine and it's either the best nine or the worst nine and then i'm going. It's going to flip that. It is not a consistent. All the way through. The i lose interest really call system little too much mind during the. I can't take that kind of time many golf. I just want to go through all eugene holes and see. I'm sure go now me personally. I can just kind of guess you want to go through all eighteen holes in and meet everybody. That's on what's next. Yeah he's got the good music on the golf cart. I mean i am excited finally with with technology and bluetooth everything you go out and you hear more music playing on the golf course. I know it for the traditionalist. it is i'm sure annoying. But as you go out there and more and more golf scrambles and all those things yeah the golf carts and people have their music playing and it is more of a festive environment. People getting getting out Enjoying the conversation There's there's competition for sure but Yeah it's It's seems to be a different game today. Yeah go scrambles and all the other things. I'm sure you you know You get out there and we're playing for a one hundred dollars a whole you know shot. It's a little more competitive. But i stay out of my stay leave. That's that's right so talking about bluetooth and tools and golf clubs and buildings and all that Guess give the Listeners here A a tool or something that us every day. That you think is designed well. Well okay so this is. This is kind of funny. This is total mom example. Okay so of course. Rate like april or may of twenty twenty dollar appliances decided to not function at their highest cassidy. So we went out looking for you know kitchen appliances right and i was i was. I knew exactly what i wanted. But there was some supply chain issues right production and everything was delayed because folks we're shipping warehouses. Just so fast forward to we know how he did it to get some all new appliances like late last year. And i was really the one i care about. The most was the refrigerator. Because everybody i know has that Like freezer drawer thing and you have to kind of lean over in a little bit of a lower back as you say no want that. I don't wanna have to sift through locally over and sift through. I want double doors. I was real schnitt all my double doors. I'm not giving that up you know. I know that's not the way like i got this But then i got a bonus We have the You know of course the ice maker and the Water filtration and so our previous refrigerator. Like i don't know maybe it was already slightly. I who knows what happened to for me to our house but like we head turn all that off because our kids were little and it was like every day walk in front of the fridge and continue to leak or they do that. It'd be a puddle flooring. I was like all this thing is amazing so i love the way our refrigerators design and i love the fact that it makes me healthy eating and active living. "Mean i know it's not going fast enough for a lot of it's the like up here in my ma point to my forehead irving as just watching it the landscape and the connectivity and just the overall experience of what evansville means to from a walking perspective is a hundred times different. You know we have The connected streets now You know the the way in which we are engaging in starting to talk about how to maybe activate the riverfront. Finally that conversation need your cohesion. Yes activating you know our one of our most vital assets. Why we're we're here is a community in the Manufacturing part of the way things are being envisioned for the future. You know future paying homage to the past but now building multi use and and all that so with all that like. We've talked a lot about the word experience of you know of a coaching experience of you know community development experience of of apparent of all those things Give us a baseline. What does the experience meaning. You couldn't define it because it just feels so so big right I i remember the only way i would. I would say to kind of categorize it as that since i was a little kid. I always had this sort of philosophy. That i was just going to get is every experience of life like i was just going to squeeze every last drop comes in and i live my life that way. Probably a little too much like every day. I've got big goals for each day. You know and i- i- gauge my success in Did i get enough out today by whether or not you can just like collapse and fall asleep right which is pretty much every day you know. Wipe me today just exhausts me But you know ultimately. What do i get the most experience i. I love being outside. I love outdoors. I was just thinking about how walking over here thought how ironic that Walking over here you know it'd be meeting with epsn. Extend in there just right in the thick of all about building experiences and i'm walking past this demolition and it was just so fascinating about hearing them work on. You know the just knocking down down right now and then the people you know. Various people like sitting there and watching and then you know. It's like that..

"Most technology savvy individual toya myself for that because my kids anyway on the table i was like oh my gosh another medium that after like figure out and keep up with an but it's been a lifesaver like the teams app has been a lifesaver for things. Really gosh appeal soon. This just feels lame to be like writing an email about this. You just sit that quick teams message or you know lots of. Hey do ten minutes for a quick video call. 'cause there's something different right. There's just something nuanced about having that video call versus having a phone call. I mean just it just makes it a little more personal a little. Bit more of that connection Regardless of what. The topic is so for us. I would say we have really just leaned in to our digital resources and the technology platforms that we have available to us and it was a lifesaver for us during the pandemic wanted to keep wanting to keep our processes move forward. It's you know we feel bound to that like that's part of what we do. We resource that community with with You know our nonprofit excellence. Of course. Our our funding and in our community can meaning so It was just really critical that nothing stopped or slowdown. Didn't slow down at all. We got a little more involved in things. Actually really yeah. We were Our organization was pretty involved with the cove in nineteen response fund housed at the united way. Most of us had some kind of role involved with that to make sure that that process was continuing on and Up the community raised quickly. Like five six million dollars. Is that right. Yeah that's absolutely right about six million so We actually just wrapped up. That process Several of us were part of some aspect of that process and that fun just wrapped up this month. "I get to feel part of community every day with with my job and with my interactions with with people but it doesn't always happen in in in their everyday life. They go to school. But that doesn't necessarily mean that they have a connection with a larger group. They might they might participate in something at the school but having that one thing that's kind of outside of school he wants to do they want to be there. That's pretty special. You know. I remember my best self to that because you know. They're they're coming to the table. And a bonding experience to which is always beneficial. Well you did such an extraordinary job in the introduction and everything mike you're now on your now on point one little spot there gets to send to you know. Tell us what's going on at the wilburn foundation like what's the experience like we just went through like one of the you know we talk about it. Podcast after podcast now seems but everybody has a different experience with last year. And a half. What's been like for you and the community in your counterparts in your culture. Yeah now it's an interesting question as it relates to kind of the last year and a half You know we are really ultimately about being in partnership with the community with all of our different community agencies and organizations and the city departments in Coney departments in all of that so What's been fascinating is just how well connected we have Stayed and felt during this time when people are in and out of office half working remotely half the time and you know that type of thing But what's even more fascinating is that you know we really love convenient. We love bringing people together right and so we had already planned to to make a move Physical location Probably would have been like me by twenty eight team. You're already talking about what. Where do we need to go because one of the things we wanted to do was have a larger space where we could convene people and not feel no space constrained if you will So kind of in the middle of the pandemic we moved. We moved from great space. We had it for almost twenty years the with now the german american bank But then we moved to the fifth third bank. We are now on the fifteenth floor. And it's a new experience for us where we have whole florida ourselves and you know what what probably is. The most exciting part about it is that we have now are large where we call the wellborn community room. And it's it's it's truly. That's where it's four. It's available to the community you know depending on Sat up can lay out. It could accommodate even commute. Ninety guests -utiful yet. thank you. Yeah it really is absurd there for why. Pin and did the lunch and learn a couple of months back and that that is. I mean it's an experience to itself. I mean you know knowledge. Is there the views there you know you just bring great conversation in it is. It's it's a blessing for the community. It's great yeah. I mean we really. We really feel like this is just a blessing for us to be able to offer this. I can't say. "But like i wanna do this and at that point you're like if if you're going to dedicate and all the extra stuff and you wanna go to tristate and you wanna take extra lessons and do those things. Do not ever think that this experience of coaching. Like and i'm going to miss the you know seven others kevin other roles that i've coached sense. You know they were. You know six. Yeah but guess what we move on and we evolve in all those hearings and it is. It's a new experience in. it's the lies. We shape through coaching That's that's been amazing to me that that early on as an accidental kind of create a pioneer. I just want to win. You know looking at kids in among th this is the position this is what it is and this is where we have to do an ideal out d. and they'd have to save fence and all you know we were we were. That's the way we were coached. I mean it was just drive drive drive and and now become intentional about it and you really lean into every player kind of like what we do in the community right lane into every you know every part of it then it really becomes meaningful. It's i've had parents come back and say you know what my son still to this day in baseball. Still favorite now and basketball your same things but like the graphic said it's like if you get all of them to come back and there was a time where we even had the opportunity to. Hey we're gonna push all the alphabets to the top and then everybody else that's in the middle bottom they're out they're not gonna play a feeder or they're not gonna play this. We're not gonna play right right when they should be when they should everybody. I'm like yeah so you know so myself me and a few other dads said you know what our kids could be there. And we've been asked to be there but we're gonna go ahead and we're going to go to the middle bottom and we're gonna give them. We're gonna wear same uniforms. We're going do we're going to tournaments you know we're going to get beat but we're going to give them the opportunity to compete now until they get the high school and we're not gonna make the decision when they're in fifth graders third fourth fifth sixth grade that says this is going to be our quote varsity yeah. Ti flinches can't determine and is so fulfilling because a few of those players right now have made their way up there and they're making their presence known as freshman and sophomore in jv and varsity scenario there comedian. It's their you know they've worked hard they and i think that's the you know. That's i mean that's what that's what coaching you meant. You immediately mentioned coaching. And it just touches me. And i like to talk about that experience because i don't i don't think a lot of individuals understand the commitment and personal Experience at the coach has it's like oh you're out there. Coaching your son or your daughter and whatever it is and you know really when you're out there you're out there for all twelve solid fifteen you know. Yeah we want our our kids to you know excel but i think at times they may actually take a step back because you're trying to working with them up so thank you for doing. Oh yeah thank you thank you so much. It's incredible and it's You know it does feel like there's a lot of pressure sometimes with these sports and so when you have a group of kiddos who just want to come out and play. Of course they wanna get better they wanna have fun but You know especially. Because i'm i coach girls in you know we want them to have something that makes them feel part of community..

"Discover soccer's like nine and You know what my kids say. A pretty loud voice right so Coaching worked out. Really well you know they can hear me all the way across that field you know lots of fans and parents and everybody kind of yelling says what people do In so it. It's pretty funny. I hear about how loud i am and now are two girls are both the most will together. So they're in the school like middle school feeder. Whatever that's called me cub cub level. And so it's fun. We have two teams right now. So i help serve as bench coach for one team in the night. I'm apparent for the other. It's really hard there are there are times. I just want to like walk over back to the bench and say a few. Yep absolutely yeah. It's really fun. you know. I saw one of infographics again. The other day was from coach. Whatever i can't remember which social media profile was but you know it really hit home to me because early on like i use words like a pioneer you know guardian whatever but as a creative pioneered. So he's like you're always focusing on the ten percent that's actually not done right instead of the ninety percent. That was so early on. I'm like my son's on baseball teams. That are winning. Like they're going like sixty eight and like three sixty eight wins and three losses. They win every tournament. You know they go to travel all around plays and it was just all about building like you know who's next who's up. Who's coming in like who's going to believe what what's the next thing but early on as coach. I was just kind of win win. Like go right like we're in this and you often forget and a lot of What we would have called the old guard back. Then where you guys insane. I gear already taken hitting last sentence. You're taking on the pitching lessons like they're already getting going to sports acceleration and running like sixteen an hour on the treadmill and we're talking about these kids were like seven and eight right..

Systems and environmental changes and two thousand thirteen and andrea was recognized as a white house. Champion of change for her leadership with the cdc community. Transformation grant awarded to south west indiana. She is a proud member of the healthy communities partnership the evansville trails coalition board of directors which we can talk about a little bit later and the w. i n. Community advisory board and drab also serves as adjunct faculty with the university of southern indiana goski goals in the college of nursing in health professions. I actually worked for us. I for bit so we can get that makers Prior to joining the foundation in two thousand eighteen andrea held the role of director public health for prevent blindness america. She earned her bachelor of arts in philosophy from the university of illinois at chicago and her master's degree in public health from indiana university andrea andrea. Listen evansville with her husband andrew. That doesn't get confusing right and their three children where she enjoys serving as coach stray for her daughter's soccer team. So you coach to yes. At this point we started much earlier. Daughter was probably like second grade. Maybe when i started and yeah there's a league the east youth i was hitting eastside youth soccer league fan. Yeah talk about experiences. I'm always saying when we're out there. Beautiful tree alliance can over there by the boy scouts and the Hospital in the lake. And everything's always just the tree line you know when we're playing a game been coach for what is over ten years now. My son is sixteen. I started when he was like four over at east so the baseball baseball. Okay sorry with baseball on soccer basketball and then went through I was coaching good shepherd and then was assistant coach. Good shepherd boys and then my daughter comes through and she starts in third grade and Coached her team all the way through this year. She decided that it was time for her to not play basketball anymore. She wouldn't play volleyball and folks on softball. Also i am. I still coach travel. Baseball for Bailey and his team southern indiana legends at sixteen. And then we have a softball team called the southern indiana vibe. So coach that. That's you twelve team. That's gonna brand new and then Yeah i just relinquish my basketball coaching. I get to actually be a fan. And which is fine to sit up in. The stands actually did that for one season last year in softball and i did enjoy i really do. I really didn't get ansi ansi. Yeah i did actually. I didn't wanna over coach from the sidelines. So a lot of actually commented on how. I started coaching well. Then you were not that vocal all last season because basically we had a team that was half an age group and half another age group and they had that was some of them aged emerge so i took. I took the ones that were aging up and we went twelve. And i had some other friends that had some other daughters that were looking for first year and i brought them all together and the ones that experience me as like just apparent last year. They're like it's Yeah but it is. I love coaching. Yeah it's really cool. It's it's funny. 'cause our son started his oldest so he started off playing and A little bit later really heated..

"The case. I don't i wouldn't consider myself to be depressive person because if it's going to go that way a seem to be able to nip it in the bud by different techniques and so forth you know at that particular time in our overkill. It was a time in my life where i knew that nothing was going to be the same. So you're diving into this pool of everything is unknown. This huge thing of success which was opening up and was going to happen. We knew it was going to happen. And so you go well. Do i want to take that leap and you so you take it in amongst all that were the what we're not talking about the goal there was darkness creeping into i own life which had to do with alcoholism which i knew was there an. I knew before anyone that i was going to have to deal with at some point and it was deeply disturbing and on the surface. You have everything you know. You have this amazing success and and then you just. I just was always thinking to myself. Oh i'm going to get through this. Am i gonna survive this. You know and indeed even remember people might immediate family. My brother and sister were not convinced. That i was gonna make it. You know but at some point. I thought well. Okay i gotta. I'm gonna change my life. I have to actually really do something about this about the drinking in particular. How bad did it. Because you know what you mean by that you know and it's different for everybody but even when when i first started to drink i realize probably on alcoholic. It's insight it's n. it's a it's a genetic thing chemical thing wasn't that i drank every day it wasn't like i would get out of control everyday but it was just that i loved it. I wanted to do it all. I wanted so i was always i was always using my will to control it and you can't me over a period of time as a very progressive thing and so i tried for many years install. It took me five or six years to finally stopping that. Australia is a very difficult place to stop drinking. Because people don't want you to stop your friends. Don't want you to still because it means that. Look at themselves or rod you find not worry about again on an alcoholic might just want. Unless it's a chronic problem you know and so i wanted to be light in my life instead of darkness and there was too much dogmas but really the the end of the day with addiction. You have to just really want to stop. That was the whole thing that me was. I wanted to stop. Because i wanted to change my life and so and that's one of the reasons i left australia and move to la what was happening with men at work minute. Minute work was already over before it started. Know his over at the end of eighty three at the end of nineteen ninety-three into ninety four jordan. Jerry being the base plan on drama they got sacked which ultimately was was I'm going to say it was a mistake. I mean i could see all. That was a mistake to do that the way we the way we did. It sent me a mistake. It was not. There's not pretty that we it was done through lawyers and everything so once that happened. Once they got sacked was done. It was over. You know we made another record but it was just a minute. What was finished. Didn't realize it at the time. The thing that remains from that period of music the songs remain the songs of the powerful things. The songs are what people wanna hear. So when men at work was over i was starting on a solo career right from the middle of the eighties. So that was really. The struggle really was with. Chronic addiction was between eighty five and ninety one when i had money and success advisor the illusion of time. You think you have time because you don't have to. You don't have to go out and do stuff to put money on the to put fiddle the table. You've you've made you've made money and so you know you've got a wine. Cellar caught a nice wine cellar. I'd be guessing hill and you have plenty of friends that are quite prepared to drink your wine. Meanwhile my guitar sitting in the corner waiting patiently saying well. You'll probably you may get around to play me again. You may not but if you do. I'm here we missing music playing music. You know but i was also getting getting messed up a lot of the time i was playing music and i was you know i was i was married. My wife laughed. And i think it was eighty eight. She left and ultimately agreed active. Love on her part to leave me because she didn't want to witness my demise and in fact was contributing factor to me really realizing that i had to change my life. She sees she kind of said well. Good luck to you. But i'm going to go down this road. So as she did with with gregg. Who was thailand. The bathroom at the time so after he left with linda terrible thing to finish up husky. Us right okay. You might have life for the wife. Combined finish author. Do you remember calling going on stage after giving up drinking saudi. Un drinking anymore and you career at bay on the back burner and starting a solo performer. What was it like to go onstage. In at tardily different context it was brilliant. I loved because you have to remember started. Playing acoustic guitar and singing songs was fourteen. So i'd had fifteen years of playing soul material songs to people and men at what was really the punctuation mark. That was really the thing that was different. Was that four year period where we had immense success but it was almost like i try and put a rock band together and see how that goes. We did that bang. It goes mental. And then it's over and so you're kind of back to you going okay and how i'm back to who i am now. I mean that wasn't like out wasn't who i was as well but it was a bit when i'd stand onstage being a solo performer. Playing songs for people say fifty people in the audience and you've got no production. You've got no band you've got no it's bayer is just the bare essentials of of you. What your particular skill set is and you have to entertain. These people are known half two hours. You gotta do it you know. And so that was that was one astonished to do and it became kind of conspiratorial almost because the audience were to sit in almost looking embarrassed kind of thinking. Well why is he doing this. You know because i'd gone from one hundred and fifty thousand people to fifty people in the room or even less i. Yes that's right in broome one night. There's nobody cares. Nobody that's that's got to be a four experienced. Although i was going to to play might doesn't everybody here. Could you play a song from that period in your career. This whole thing is a very long song. It was when i got dropped by. Mci records which was the end of my ten or fifteen year period of of of being with lodge record labels so they say goodbye to me. And i thought well something else will happen Someone else will come along the knock. Madore and off something.

"Nine sure is the fear goes clear. Costs appear cohen. That accent of yours is sounding as magnificent as ever. Can you picture the house in scotland where you grow up. Yes absolutely well. It was two of them was until i was four hours. A little lost kind of a nice house. Really it was called address and road is up from the beach. Small town called salt courts and issue scotland and then and then my father mother bought shop a music shop in the main street called hamilton street. We lived behind and above the shop and in my brother. Ni- shared a bedroom. Or what led them to buying a music shop. Well they were musical people my father especially he was a great singer dancer when he was on the stage he was young teenager and then he became a piano. He gave up singing on the stage when he was he got. I think he was traumatized by what he's voice broke and he didn't apprenticeship as a piano tuner and i think that they A boss from the eastern glasgow father so they. They wanted to have a better life. You know for the family. So the the very hardworking people so they thought were we'll buy music show you know and That will be a good business and was the only one in the town and I think you know considering the times and everything i think. It did very well because they sold it was a very you know sold everything from violin strings drums pianos and guitars and records. So so You know for from abroad system. Grown up with a music show was fantastic. Was it like being a next best thing to being a candy shop or something and we were musical as well so you know all of us my brother and sister and myself we love. We love music and so It was very exciting way to grow up. Do you remember your dad playing particular music. In that trump like with records going as well as selling instruments. My mother relived off to the shop. How should i have no idea. But because she had three children under under the age of eight and a brother was eight and i was four remove moved. I moved in. So i think it was about five mini four or five so for nine years. We were in an assault before came to australia and So my mother would be breastfeeding my sister and she'd done she's run into the shop and save somebody in An amazing job should but my father. I remember my father being on the show More after the show was closed which was which was a really magical time for me very wonderful time because it was dark. And you know there was Piano is you could smell the french polish from from when the fringe polish would come in and police. The piano is and there was a little drum. Kit was on the drum. Johnston and and there was a little ton table. In the father would set employee records. We played piano like a dj. He would play songs or indifferent records and play them and see a member and played a beatles record and saying to me. Listen to these guys. I think they'll do well so that was. That was a lovely tiny eddie soon because he'd be not pianos so he was always. He was always an father doesn't matter what he did is still is still on and he was very. It was a own mind. Was your mom careful with the way. She looked too very glamorous woman she was she was she was describing mother. She was like a movie star. That just didn't never made any film. That's a great shot. And what sort of relationship did the two of them have very. It was very At first it seemed quite traditional in the sense that my father was a real go-getter my mother supported him very well. She was very capable whatever job she took a of self. She would do it very well but she was very much an supporting role to what my father wanted to do which was to get ahead and to do well you know. And what and whatever with dreams they had for the family and so he you know he wanted to come to australia with the family. I think that she that she was very much. You know followed him in that but it would have been probably choice. No why did he want to come here. Call them all. I think that he was sick of the rain and the cold and he wanted a better life for the family and he didn't like that he didn't like the the depressive way there of scotland and i don't think he liked the social entrenchment. I don't think he liked a lot of things a boat and he loved scotland. Love the people and he you know ever a lot of things about it but There are a lot of things. You'll probably pointing away from scotland that particular time. When i was growing up it was the fifties and so it was. The war wasn't long gone. And so you know there was the the after effects of that and also you know. The australian government had that very questionable policy at the time which way people from different countries. You know and But you are a teenager. I mean how did you feel about leaving your home in your friends. The whole world to come to the other side of the world. Well it's it's a little bit emotional I had i had kissed generous. Didn't wanna leave. Janice and that was. That was delightful. I'll have to say but then again you go into the world you go into another very exciting thing to do so i loved it for the most part i mean gives you gives you a double perspective on on a lot of things. I mean there are things that happen to you. Think when you go to another country no matter who you are how old you are. I think it was probably a lot more challenging from the mother and father because they were in the forties so they are very established as people and they made friends and they did very well. And i think that all things considered they considered going to australia to be a very good move but having said that there were there were scottish people scottish people they remained although they went back to scotland and they find there were reminded of in many ways why they lived for example. You know my mother. My mother was going to go down to the town on a saturday morning with a friend. Martha and My mother had jeans and reebok's on you know as you do in australia she was probably the seventies you know. What was martha wearing. Well martha said to my mother. You know going down to the time that like value why she says you. Can we have those jeans and you have to put on us. Gutten heels or something to good the time. My mother said i couldn't do that. You know the things that we're supposed to and you know they stayed with some people. Some horrible people a never liked the man who even lived in scotland. They were friends of the parents. And and the guy set then called unti you know. Probably mike snow his blood pressure. Big red face. You know from mccollum to have.

"Allergy therapy works by avoidance example. If i ate an apple my mouth would avoid eating apples but that seems a bit too simplistic when it comes to pollen which is all around us. That's worth talking about for second because huge amount attention has been paid to food allergies in the last few years And with good reason because certain people have eaten things in suddenly died and in almost all of those cases. The food allergy is related to the pollen allergy. And so if you take a tree like a birch tree which produces a lot of pollen and then you become allergic to birch pollen. There are proteins in the birch pollen that are of similar shape to proteins in different foods. And so once you get a birch pollen allergy you can get a A food allergy. Or what they call it. Food intolerance two. Oh two mellon. Strawberries kiwis apples Twenty something different Foods at least and so if we don't get a control of the pollen levels in our cities than we will not get the control of food allergies and if we keep letting the pollen levels in the city's yet higher and worse than the food allergies while also get worse. It seems like the easy fix as deployent movie. Mo trees. are there any situations where that's being attempted. London plane trees. They have both sexes. But the sexist are separated and they have over planted these by the millions and Even though they're palling is only moderately allergenic. They planted so many of them That it's it's causes a problem It's like everything that we do. Have some sort of a reaction and every time we plan a new bush or tree we are actually either improving or making worse. the media around that particular plant with allergies Proximity is pretty much everything they always claiming in the past the pollen blows through the air at high altitudes and travels thousands of miles and sometimes it does but in fact I've done fallen dispersal tests. For many years and other people have to. In all cases the most fallen is found closest to the source. So if that source is writing your front yard you and your family will will get the most of it. Let me see from getting this right from a allergy point of view planting female trees to count the number of pollinating. Mayo trees doesn't do much unless they're actually in close proximity yes that. That's probably true when we plant a female tree where it's not less allergenic. It's not allergenic. It bali produces no pollen but it produces Something that will trap poem and remove it so when you combine the vast numbers of male trees with rising co two levels causing plans to blue more meaning more pollen. Is there anything that can actually be done now to try and alleviate the hay fever symptoms. We can't just sit back and say well once we've combat climate change and that's been taken care of and i sure hope we do that. The allergies would be better. Because that's a long way down the road but right now what we can do I'll sometimes do allergy assessment of a yard for people. And i will go through the yard with them and i will point out each plant. Explain its potential Some will be basically neutral Some will be very positive and good and other ones will be extremely allergenic and i will recommend Getting rid of the most allergenic ones and replacing them with the allergy free ones. And what we do is we make that immediate environment We make it much cleaner air. We make so it's not as allergenic and basically what we try to do is cocoon people In their own yards while the biggest things we need to do is to establish a balance again in the urban forest of the world to where we have a balance between the males and the females Whatever you have too many males in any type of situation you get a problem. And it's particularly true here with allergies time tom. I'm going to give up my jobs. But before i do i wanted to let you know about a very cool audiovisual project. "And i am with graham fellow geocaching in also blogger of geocaching with graham's welcome. Thank you for joining us today. I am really glad to be here. Amy and hide everybody listening to this blog. So start off. Can you tell us what you're caching name as my caching name. Oh goody. I know that so. My caching. name is ember sky media which is e. m. b. e. r. s. k. y. m. e. d. a. And the reason that is. 'cause i actually do a bunch of blog stuff and a video of logs Also have a little bit of a podcast. I need to do who but rebranding on but basically put everything under the ember sky media logo at just keep it all tied together that way i try to people google me and the as you probably notice with weird spelling my name. I have trouble using my name. Because nine percent people will spill it incorrectly. So how long have you been geocaching. You're newer to geocaching correct. Yes so i started geocaching a guessing now about a month and a half ago Right before ontario had walked down. Stay at home order. So i've only been able to do cash Six locations of which. I found three of them on my first pass at. I went back to another one and did not find into an actual find at then. They government of montero said. Everyone should stay at home and they live out here in the country and driving out to a bunch of geocaching locations. Probably not the best thing to be doing. I've been patiently waiting. And i have a plan for once things reopen next month i will see. You're getting close yes Looks like we're reopening. Probably june second june third. Okay so you should be reopening. Probably right Just a bit before this. Podcast airs awesome errors. I will be geocaching like a crazy person. And by geocaching crazy pearson. I'm mean walking around downtown napa knee where there's probably like five hundred geocaches nice to have a lot know decently nearby.
