"The mason minutes. With Kevin mason, the other night before dinner, my wife and I were clicking through the TV channels and I stumbled upon something I hadn't seen literally in decades. The old 1960s, 1970s TV show, Rowan and Martin's laugh in. If you were alive, you remember it for Goldie Hawn and Artie Johnson and Judy carne and Ruth buzzy, and of course Ron and Martin. And I hadn't seen it, hadn't thought about it in years. I remember being a little one, 7, 8, 9 years old back in the day. I thought it was cool. All the colors and how fast it moved. And so we sat here and watched it the other night. And I realized how much of a time capsule it really was, and just how bizarre it was. It was kind of a variety show that tried to be hip. And I realized for the times it was hip, but I just couldn't get into it the other night. No, I realized it's been 50 plus years since that show was on. I think we were watching an episode from the first or second season, 1968, and it didn't keep my interest. I realized 50 years is a long time, but when you look at 50 year old TV, you can sometimes see the reality of how long it's been.

"In. Oh it's like a just the at risk exactly just to get this one little person off back there and we're back truck drivers not doing anything but pressed the brake. That is simply not an option. No now you must keep going go faster and see what happens all right. Well they pulled it off of course then dom suspects that the police are on his trail. I guess hawn sort of says this too i mean. Was this really smart. What we just did hear like are. You just. Blew up half of the dominican republic. Yeah like you brought a lot of eyeballs onto the area man like the cops are probably going to be circling here soon. Numbering tankers of gas to the people of the dominican republic and instead you completely destroyed two of them and we know there's a shortage. Yeah yeah oh we forgot about the guy in the short elvis right. He's like the one that's sort of sets us all up. Is he a crooked. Like polly's okay. I forgot about him anyway. Yeah he gives them like basically he's giving them the window of when you could pull this up. Yeah that's in the short so maybe you do need to watch it anyway. Like what are we doing here. This was dumb. you're a fugitive again man dumb. And he's like we got. We got disband. We gotta go our separate ways and this is where we learn that hawn. Jennifer Lopez admits she's contemplating not marrying Alex Rodriguez

"All right. let's start with jennifer lopez revealed. She and a rod might never get married. They already postponed their plans of twice. And on. andy cohen's deepen serious. Oh sees me deep shallow sirius. Xm show andy acid. She's going to ditch the wedding all together. Is there any part of you as i'm looking at kurt russell and goldie hawn do press right now for something has. Is there any part of you that dot has ever thought. Maybe we should do a golden kurt thing and just we've talked about that for sure. I mean our age. You know we've both been married before it's like. Do we get married do we. Not what does it mean for us and it just comes down to like personal. What do you want to do. There's definitely no rush though. So what. I'm gonna throw this to you guys. I've had my opinion for a very long time. Do you think they're going to get married or are they gonna pull a golden curtain. Oh i go with golden kurt. Why not i mean. Come with mary. what three times. They've both been married. Come on get the house. You got the kids. You got everything i mean you go in. It's the it's the next season i mean. You really need somebody to travel with Give you some soup and push the wheelchair know. That sounds pretty. And all and i wish she was that girl. But she's not that chill. She is kinda sorta like me in the sense that we need that moment for our own peace of mind. You know what i mean. I think she was like. Yeah we talked about it in the sense that like you know. Yeah you know he brought it up in my. You know we kinda talked about it but nobody should do why. It's taking them so long though. Just because i always i've always felt that they are not going to get married and i also kind of feel like for them like if it's not broken don't if it's not broken don't fix it. That's that's that's saying. You know what i'm saying so i just feel like for them. There's no real reason they are already married. They already have a family life. As kim said they have the kids to have the houses that tried to buy a sports team would. Why does she care to walk down. An aisle for the fourth or fifth time. I think that's why we haven't seen it. But because she likes the ceremony she likes the moment. I think a lot of couples who are together and engage. Who don't care about those kinds of things have just rushed to the courthouse. Look at you. You did a four person waiting in your backyard. Because you didn't care about the pomp and circumstance and the lavish wedding and three hundred people in italy and having that whole moment for those to their power couple but they also know that they kind of open air bans to have that moment. What can they just have a big party. Why do we have to get the paper and it did. If we break up now we gotta split up. The houses. Divorce is too much you know what my easier to walk away from a curtain. Go the moment but if we get married and we walked down that aisle. It's going to take you not only a longer time. It's going away heavy on your heart to fuck up and walk off that. No that is true. But i think it's easier once you've done everything for her. I was you may need to go with. They're not going. Do i say. I want students win. There you go. I agree she should jerseys on. She's ready she just put that scorecard out there. This is what we're doing. I

The Story of N0tail

"Heard of og you know how a rag tag group of discards Cinderella their way to not one but two of the biggest wins in the history of sports, how a pub star a quitter. A coach and a comedian. Defied every conceivable expectation and made history. Friendship. then. There's the long-suffering sweetheart who made it all happen the heart and soul of Oji the God in whose image it was created. The Flower, the rainbow, the river, the big daddy himself. Johann Soon Stein. The Feisty adorable little. Viking. You know is no tail was born and raised in the East sports powerhouse. That is Denmark like a lot of Doda grates he got his start in heroes of new worth where at the age of fifteen he met his future best friend and brother in arms fly it feels it feels great winning winning for a fourth time. Be. Easy Really great man? Say together fly in no tail took Hawn by storm. Once that scene began to die down, they transitioned to Doda to. Set their sights on a new challenge. The biggest event is sports had ever seen the international twenty thirteen. Let's say, no, till was confidence I'll agree I like. Best they get maybe a little too confidence double guilty by Dr. Five. Days destroy the triple, all trump annual tighten the top wrecks and g G. Come down fanatic. At being limited by the Malaysians Orange bullivant, themselves would unfortunately fly in no tail never managed to cement themselves as the kings of this new game like they wanted. Unable to find a group of truly like minded players once valued loyalty and synergy over raw individualistic talent. They spent years hovering just below the top tier Gareth snow. This tournament it didn't go the way you guys wanted it to go what what do you think? The reasons were. All in all. I. Think there's been a bunch of things coming to this disappointing result and. There's not so much could have done about it i. think we did try our best of somehow they'd always find themselves at the butt end of a disappointment a- disbanding. Kick team secret. We did feel like a super team, but then there all this letter tournament. Throat they got secret by the jugular and they take ended up losing. That hills really hard. After I kind of saw it coming just months to the next ti fly. No tells found themselves kicked from the very team. They had just joined. The crazy thing is that more than perhaps any other player? The community loved no tail. He was funny out of all the things you could have decided to call yourself. Why Big Daddy. You fiery. Give me. Bottle war. And above all friendly at the end of the day no matter where you were from or who you cheered for. It was hard not to love this little motherfucker. My biggest inspiration is cease from the dog whisperer a lot of people laugh when I say it goes it is kind of a funny nickname that he has but then again, people are the one of my nicknames. So we got that in common. Out of yours big daddy everyone wanted nothing but the best for no tail to see him win the Big One. Unfortunately, it just didn't seem to be in the cards when I picked him up last year after the first thing he told me that I make my decision next year I will be. Very rough because it is there's so much built towards his no matter no matter how much I tried to look from that every year the biggest tournament in you spores is made out to be such a big thing falling short of what you you're aiming for in terms of placement. Has Been Very harsh lesson, but it's always been one that I've been very great for Ford. Dan shows hits always sucks. It felt as if he and fly were being systematically screwed over by the e sport they adored. As if no roster could ever be what they really wanted a team that wasn't just a business but a group of friends a family, it can bring out the worst in people and forces you to be a good teammate because team game you only succeed together and you lose together if you're not a good teammate, but you're a great player. Probably. Not Going to get where he far vice versa. So they said fuck it and founded their own organization Oh. Gee thing idea behind the O. J. is a mindset of friendship but also wants to win. We just wanted to do things right? Like do things our way what did it stand for? You ask well as it turns out a lot of things. or nothing what does it stand for her? Some people say Ranga Ganga I say I don't fucking know. Wasn't exactly clear what G was supposed to signify, but in embodied an obvious. And pithy comes with if you're if you're by nature. Not. Somebody. WHO's very empathic and you gotta you gotta learn which is a great thing learning empathy is. Very. Good for people at, but Doda kind of forces you to do it if you don't do it. You're most likely going to run into some trouble in team and his maybe GONNA lose your this game. That's GONNA lose your disqualified. You're not going to get where you want. Then you're going to sit there like why didn't work by prioritizing confidence and come robbery over results fly in no tail built a juggernaut from the ground up. One? That Iran solidified itself as the most consistently accomplished roster Doda has ever

presidential ticket that what you make of them which is comments I mean seriously what do you expect from a guy they named after a pasta dish at the olive garden which is zero credibility which makes total sense because I believe Scaramucci is an old Italian name that means more of an embarrassment and Frank Stallone Frank stole president trump about would you care to comment on all this Cuomo he was caught on video threatening some guy who called for radio a reference to the weaker brother in the godfather now Cuomo lost any threat to throw the guy down the stairs do you think Cuomo's reaction was justified did you say really great cello frankly goalie Chris Cuomo afraid of is an insult to Freida I mean it's almost reaction was so enraged I hear he's been invited to join "We spoke with artists writers, inventors scientists and more about the challenge of turning an abstract idea into something concrete. So you start out with a script and make it as good as you can. That's the filmmaker Don Hawn, who's worked on beauty and the beast and the lion. King many more and then as you actually get into the production, you allow yourself to improvise and make it better. So animations a real iterative process, you can visit and revisit and revisit, and sometimes it takes five or six or seven times of putting the movie up on real to look at it, and then have it fall apart and rebuild it, and tear it down and rebuild it before it starts to be anything in the reason is the leap from the written word to a visual storytelling. Medium is huge. It's like the leap from a recipe on page two abusively prepare dinner that you're actually ingesting. So on a page. How do you describe a perfectly cooked steak with just the right seasoning? You try your best. But once you get that in the frying pan and start to cook that state, it's a whole nother thing. But I think that's why some people shy away from the making parts because you can have perfection on a piece of paper and say, this is a beautifully designed piece of architecture or a fantastic recipe or a great script, and it's going to really go south when you try to execute it, no matter what it is. And it's just experience in and craft. That allows you to maintain some sort of order, and work that written idea into something that's actually visual up on the screen again, as we've been hearing from all sorts of creatives, the execution of an idea requires determination craft experience. Maybe a little luck. It's almost enough to persuade you at least in some cases, that if there were a competition between idea and execution. The idea isn't. Even such a formidable competitor. There's an argument to say film, like each year Star Wars, or Roger rabbit was a great idea out of the box and anybody could've made that movie, but I kind of subscribed to the other approach, which is, you can take a mediocre idea and put great people on it, and come up with a great movie. Take the Pixar movie ready-to-eat..

That always impressed me that they were almost able to win two different CBS reality shows shadow Richard hatch. I think did you think you got on radio. You're Tyler got who the host of amazing races. Definitely tyler. I've not the hostess it's a fill Keegan or Cohen. I don't even know I've never been in my life. Another one that's been on forever. Couple of things that were missed on the list from the audience the hills, extreme coop. I'm surprised the hills in top-five extreme couponing cake wars was on the audience, libs storage wars, love storage, wars, family, feud bird, notice vanity. See I know from the guy who would yell. Yup. Guna beach. Young Sheldon young Sheldon at the joke there on probably goofing on us. See pawn stars. I love pawn stars. But I just couldn't put it on a guilty. Pleasure. I don't know. It didn't make sense for me. I love pawn stars though, you'll at show I loved and they they took away from me. ABC's nashville. Oh, yeah. Connie, Britton, Hayden penalty-area the guy who's he's the brother of. I forget her name gonna bow bridges. No, who's Goldie hawn's daughter Kate Hudson. I'm sorry, something Hudson. He's he's he's brother, and then you also had some other people in that show to get show. There is a show the reality shows talking about aired on scifi called opposite worlds. It were they made a groups of people one would live in like a high tech house and the other would live like cavemen do competitions to like alternate between the two and a youtuber Jenny Nicholson did a deep dive on it in the time. Go look at it. It's VO worst reality show. I've ever seen in the world trashy reality TV is great. But some of them are just so fucking bad Sifi put out probably the worst one of all time back in two thousand I like your list though, I like botch too. By the way Rica, Tom janey Rica. I don't know. Would you sitter nip tuck a lot, but I never saw. But I heard that's pleasure. Would you? Consider Marie condo. Guilty pleasure. No. The Netflix series. No. I cute though. It's good that it's entertaining. It's delightful. It spiritually cleansing. It's all those things. What about a cutthroat kitchen because that is like, admittedly trashy TV that I will watch anytime. It's on. "But they didn't really publicize it that. Well, it didn't like resonate with the public at all. He got really high regards from critics. So I was like, okay. I should check it out. It showed up at the end of the year on all of those lists. That are like the best TV you didn't see in two thousand eighteen right? So I watched it. It's fantastic. It's a very very quickly. It's about a brother and sister who twins other father has died a year previously and left them with a crazy debt. The brother doesn't work. He's like super depressed and he's injured his foot, and he just like basically hangs out on the beach and sleeps in his car. And then his sister is struggling to get by and pay off this massive debt, and she works as a server in a restaurant that sort of like across between like TGI Fridays and hooters, it's. A really funny show. It's an hour long drama. And it's one of those shows where he's sort of like the guy the main character, the brother to sort of falls into these situations that advance his life in a particular direction that you'd like never see coming. It's really wild. The main actor is white Russell who is the son of Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell. So he's been around bit. He was in a black mirror episode. He was in a couple of TV shows about four five years ago. This is I like big starring role in a drama. He's fantastic. Very handsome. Yes. He is beat w. The beer, which I very much. Anyway, it's great show. I don't want to say anything more about it. Other than to say fantastic acting fantastic cast, really good music and very well written dialogue. So like, it had checks all the boxes. My favorite thing about it is that everybody on the show is drowning in debt. So everybody on the show like os three thousand dollars forty thousand dollars eighty thousand dollars to somebody and they're just working to pay off their debt, and they hate their dead, and it consumes them and starts define them. And then that makes them bitter, and like that is sort of the underlying tone of the show, which is really interesting because that's what is happening right now in America. And they never explicitly talk about that on the show. It's just it's just part of the way the characters are written, which is really fantastic all the rich people on the show are scammers. They're all hollow people who are just there to take your money and make all these promises they never deliver on and then just scon- the funds. So it's very a very like sort of timely look at American society lodge forty-nine. I've totally check that out. You find it on Hulu? Okay. That's great because I just subscribed to Hulu to watch fire festival. This sounds like a great thing to move onto by the way, you made a recommendation of Roma on Netflix of few weeks ago. How many times do you think you have watched the first wives club? Oh, golly. I mean, what is key? Yes. Yes. Mary offensive. How many do you think? Oh, I mean like one hundred okay constantly, how how recently was. When was the last time? You watched it. It's been a minute you need, sometimes let your favorite. Great movie, I was blown away by Goldie Hawn in the in the writers meeting. I was blown away by Goldie hawn's comic timing. I truly like the words on the page to me where the rose on the page. And then when she said the words on the page. It was hilarious. And it was really that was I was impressed at how both Kate and goal. The just could pick the gems of the jokes, knowing what would really work for them and having a very clear opinion of what wouldn't work for them and politely putting those aside while knowing what they could really knock out at a park and Kate Hudson. I mean, I just love her like, she's really all self aware or not as the first time. She was hosted. Yes, it did not seem like the first night. She was hosting tall. Shane. It's very comfortable. I don't know why this is so funny to me, it's they get overwhelmed. I mean, I guess she's like leaning over. She's like ONA like, which is overwhelmed. Busy Phillips, just holding wrapping paper they stopped for some wrapping paper. That's it. Terrible. Like, that's funny. Like, they'll do they get overwhelmed. And then they do they'll stop for wrapping paper as if that is like the most relatable part of that picture, and it's like like busy Phillips has never met a camera. She didn't like, but it's like the one photo busy Phillips where she's like stopped taking a fucking photo of me. The one time busy Phillips hasn't photograph being like get out of my face funny. And he's pulling at this girl. She's like shaking, the squirrel and so- Merrill, just starts screaming and takes off an ice start screaming and take off to and think I'm going to get killed. Why France is gonna kill me. So anyway, so we're running and running and the guide turns around, and he sees. Us and he starts running towards us in the night that we're really going to get killed, but we both split off in the opposite directions. And and we got to the girl and he kind of had ripped her clothes, but she kept her purse, and that's what he wanted. And then we're like trying to fix her all up, you know, and you know, we have nothing, but we're sticking it in their bras strapper shirt thinks she looks at us and she screams and she said, oh my God. I'm a singing waitress, and no one's gonna believe I got mugged and same. Wow. What a great story.

With different alumni from my college from accounting to investment banking consulting, the UN working at the State Department being a teacher just a whole range of careers. And then the journalists like connected most to. Yeah. I really liked the journalist I talked to. And then one guy was just, you know, hey, you know, I can call an editor that I worked with twenty years ago to see if you would be willing to offer you a job and he did that. And then I went up to New Hampshire. The job was at a small newspaper New Hampshire, and I never written an article basically for my college newspaper or anything like that. And I went up in interviewed with him. And he gave me the job. Yeah. What was the fest article you wrote full them? Oh, jeez. It was probably about some board meeting because I was covering six towns in New Hampshire and Maine, and the I think I probably went to a meeting and covered a traffic light. So you a debate on whether we should put a traffic light at this intersection. And it was a community that had very few traffic lights. So it was incredibly contentious. I mean, what are you thinking at that point? Yeah. No. It was crazy. I loved it. I don't know. It's just like the small gears in public discourse. It was fascinating to me. It was it was very strange. I mean, I was probably was the only Asian within a thirty mile radius. But yeah, I loved it. I loved it. It was crazy. I was just felt like I was in a foreign land.
