Phillips offensive rebound Williams, another three Mackenzie Williams is having quite a junior season for the Seattle you Red Hawks In December. She scored a career high 36 points even if it's just a few hours. I still get the chance to be around some girls that I love. Playing basketball attending college has met rising above more life challenges than most could imagine. Even on my worst days like I could be an inspiration for someone else. Sportswriter Zach Lowe on NBA Mid-Season Leaders
"Where. We are at the midway point of the nba season. And that means. I have questions for you about the utah jazz. I say the utah jazz to you. Right now what comes to mind a whole lot of threes there making these every time you know checkup jazz box score at my brain just glances over twenty two thousand from three leg. It's just nothing there number two in defense in number three or something in offense. They do profile as championship contender. Like they're the best team in the league by record right now. Are they the best team in the league to you. While the comparison that that's become sort of commonplaces they're they're the new sixty win hawks. The team that was built to win a lot of games regular season pretty ball movement side to side movement. You don't really have the star power to compete against lebron james when it comes down to it in the playoffs but i don't think they're just sort of blake a regular season flute so the way the jazz are playing right now. It reminds me not just of the hawks as you said but also a kind of mutant version of the houston rockets simply because of the sheer volume of threes. Does that comparison sounded all right and also does that comparison than invite the questions about what happens in the postseason. If shooting a bunch of threes doesn't go as well as it did in the regular season. That comparison does not ring true to me honestly just stylistically. They're so different. The volume of threes is similar. Like they are taking a houston. Daryl morey level volume of threes. But they play so differently. The other comparison is brad stevens. I think the first one to give voice to this is to two thousand fourteen spurs which is kind of like. That's that's i don't want to say that out loud well to an mba hipster fan to an emmy afficionados. Let's put it that way kinda sewer. What does that specific spurs team. What does that evoke in your memory. It almost has this sort of religion. Level reverend yes. Everybody loved watching that team. Anybody who was at games three to five of the finals that year when by the beginning of game four we were all looking at each other. Like all my god. They're just going to destroy the heat and to compare any team to where that team reached. It just feels like talking to a pitcher in the seventh inning of a no hitter. Something like you just don't want to say out loud but that is a comparison. People are making looked at jazz. Their undoing in the playoffs in in previous seasons was day would very much like the hawks. Actually day would get a lot of open threes and not make them and you could look at that and say well. We did everything right. We just didn't make shots. Which is what. Every hawks team including that one said after the playoffs. And so yeah. The three point volume is similar to the rockets. And that's a little scary. The team that this discussion has occurred in the context of is the lakers. As you said as it must be the defending champions and so when you look at the lakers right now. I want to get to lebron specifically in a second but just them without anthony davis and how much they've struggled most recently losing to these jazz and blow out. What is that revealing to you or confirming to you about what this team needs to actually content. I think like any team. They need their best players to be healthy. I i'm pretty low on the lakers panic meter because it's not just anthony. Davis who you know was first team all nba hill assures. Anthony davis is not like some borderline all the best players in the league. Dennis schreuder is maybe their third best player. I think kyle kuzma is kind of the claim that mantle disturbing might be their third most important player. Because he's the only other guy. With the exception of some frisky alex russo games entail. Norton tucker will get you some. You know some stuff done now and then but he's learned other on ball creator the other the other guys threat to score or pass to somebody else. Yeah you take them away and it's like oh my god. Lebron has to do everything and and you know he's probably getting a little tired and even though he'll never say it the only thing that will make my panic meter go above like three point. Five on a one to ten is if we get news. At davis's injury is lingering or more serious that we thought it was then if they're healthy in the playoffs yeah. Competition in the west is is probably better this year. Particularly if denver finds whatever gear they had going in the bubble. There's going to be a lot of really good teams in the west. You could get the one seed in the west and play the warriors. You could get to play the mad. I mean it's it's just every round is hard there. But yeah i i can't i can't get too worked up about it right now. Yeah the western conference meet
Frances McDormand Explains Why She Turned Down Press Requests for 10 Years
"Okay. We're going to move on to actress. Frances mcdormand so. She just made this bold confession. She says she turned out interviews for ten years and chance. Good recent the oscar winner told the new york times. It gave me a mystery back to who i was. And then the roles performed. I could take an audience to a place where someone who sold watches or perfume and magazines could not ooh that she a pull that off. Talk to me like with the studio. And say i'm not going to do any interviews. Well that is interesting. But you know who was famous for that trend's prince dude and that's why everybody loved him. He was so mysterious. He's one of the most mysterious unicorns ever. That's why i always say. I miss the days of times when we didn't know every single thing about celebrity. It's the reason why tom cruise came up and came up so hard. It's the reason why. Julia roberts has survived for so long because they gave you that. We didn't know about what they were eating about. What was in their frigerator as we didn't know where they were on vacation. But you also have to just remember that. This was years ago was ninety six when she started this remember. We only had the rag magazines and we had the big magazines and television shows. We didn't have all of this social media so now that's why everyone is putting everything out about what they do. Were like okay enough already. I don't do. You said about the scenario so i i think it was brilliant. Does it do you think they're still shame because to me i. I don't care if if i see a big celebrity coffee or watch or on a magazine cover. It doesn't really lowered their celebrity to me. I still value their are. And i don't mind seeing them in the movies. That doesn't distract me. Dad there's an opposite there's two sides to every story because there are some actors who look down on other actors can't get those endorsement deals. Who aren't you know making that extra coin but i think for for francis and garment. This is about her craft and she never wanted her craft ever be. I don't wanna say soil because it's not really solid but she didn't want white diamonds but i'll hawks. I'm white. i'm here for a chat about the art and her choices in the character because her first come out character was what fargo was in. That was a big deal so in order for you to maintain that you have to pick roles that bring that kind of eat. Attention or people is hollywood.

A Ouija board mystery
"Welcome to kiss myths and mysteries. Heiner host kit chrome in my month-long search our investigation into different forms of nation. I touched on the wage board last friday. And almost as a cautionary tale and immediately received some emails. Asking me to back that up. So i put it to my team of urban legend writers to come up with some information. That was something. I can validate with police. A names and numbers and read over this podcast so here. It is in the small seaside town of dungeness bay. The bodies of seventy five year old eric ward and his seventy two year old wife. Mildred were found on the beach without a mark on either body. The clothes were soaked with seawater. The autopsy report indicated. The water was found in their lungs. The bodies were discovered by a jogger who tracks were the only ones found on the beach when the police arrived locals testified that the couple were often seen walking the beach. at twilight. The couple's adult son clayton ward. Came up from california that after three weeks of intense investigation no suspects were revealed and clayton had to get back to his job as a technology specialist for the silicon valley giant apple but his parting comment to the dungeon is bay. Police was that when he returned he'd be able to identify the murder of his parents in eighteen. Ninety one the patent was granted to elijah bond for the we g board but one of the first mentions of the review board used was in asia around eleven hundred. Ad and historical document documents from that era but the design we know today was based on the talking boards of ohio produced by kennard six months after his first visit to dungeness baked clayton more restrictions on the list of clues. He assured police that if followed would lead them to the murderer of his parents. Seven days later after following the various clues. The police brought in steve hawks. The grounds keeper employed by the wards who under intense interrogation confessed to the drowning of the couple. He claimed that eric had kept a large amount of cash in a safe that he planned on taking. He was however unable to explain how he was going to get into the safe. When asked by the police where he got the clues clayton more replied that he belonged to a small group that used the ouija board to solve crimes and that when his father was contacted his father's spirit told him steve had knocked him unconscious and then dragged him into the waves thinking they would be washed out to sea where they would drown but he was unaware that it was low. Tide and they'd be washed up on the beach with the changing tide. He further toll clayton that. If the police went to steve's house they would find the bloody tire iron news to knock him unconscious. Clayton return to california but when police attempted to contact him with further questions about the clues they found his address was nonexistent. Phone number disconnected no record of employment at the apple corporation. Then investigator that was brought in on the case discovered that eric and ward owned a ouija board and from journal they cap learn that they were often the host of the spirit calling itself. Dozo now we g board users will tell you that. Zoe is the demon spirit of the ouija board that sometimes he becomes protective of those that. Hold the open through the board that allows him to enter this world. Where the wards holding the door open for a demon spirit that manifested into the image of a protective son that never existed and when they were murdered by their grounds keeper was a door that allowed so to pass back and forth between this world and is shut. In which world is he

Recap: Celtics Beat Hawks in Game 2, Robert Williams Explodes
"To the thing that was more interesting and remarkable off of this game. And again, I think it was I think it's hard to argue. It wasn't robbed fans. He was just so interesting. But I mean that stretch where it's basically like steel block back door make a nice pass dunk l u and like Bobby tweeted about it from the Celtics account, you know, the game went to From mildly competitive to a blowout during those Rob Williams second quarter minutes there and that was basically the ball game, but the guys just so freaking elected. He probably had like eleven fouls tonight. I think he only got called for 4 or so before he got going on the set. You just talked about he wrapped up capella and like one of the first place of the second I Tice took another fellow from him. I'm sure sure you get that and then there was a third player like wrapped up reddish. So by halftime he had six fouls, but they only call three and then by the end of the night he got away with another one. We were going re fellow there. So realistically he realistically at $8,000 I wouldn't do it. So that was the most unfortunate game and the Exact Staffing was at the start of that structure was 33 to 24 and then at the end after all his dunks and layups and Steals and box that was 51 the 37 and that was pretty much the game. Dude was awesome. And it's funny because we always talk about let's just see the Celtics just love it up there. Right just throw it to Rob and let's see what happens and then he does like the most Rob like we knew he was capable of this sort of athleticism incredible man. Like that was caught it tapped. It one-handed in his hand eye coordination is just through the roof. Yeah, like that's the kind of play where you're like, wait a minute. Like if not that it's not one of those. Okay, if he does it every single night as well change everything but like just that open opportunity if he's able to get more comfortable get these reps in man like that. It just opened my eyes to how how explosive this office could truly be when with Rob in the middle of doing what he did. He was doing everything on both ends something like he was somebody tweeted it jokingly just way to your point was like, I wonder what this offense would look like if they just robbed if they just loved it to rub on every possession, you know, it's like legit and we always joke like that but like he made it look so smooth as well. Wait a minute. Why don't we do that more often wage? And also here is you do see the other side though, the ridiculous goaltending all the files were so like absurd and he easily could have ended up taking himself out of this one and having a game. So you do see both sides of the debate here where there's just an enormous level of upside. But also these like just absurd things. He does that you just can't do out there that end up getting them home games and you only had 16 minutes in this one in the end because of all the following and mistakes and miscues. He jumped into a couple of Shooters on the three-point line and it's like you're right John there's more good than bad. But the bad is so bad like just inexcusable stuff.

President Biden ready for talks on Iran nuclear deal.
"The biden administration said on thursday. It's ready to join talks with iran and world powers to discuss a return to the two thousand and fifteen nuclear deal in a shop repudiation of former president donald trump's maximum pressure campaign that sought to isolate the islamic republic. The administration also took two steps at the united nations aimed at restoring policy to how it was before. Trump withdrew from the deal in two thousand eighteen. The combined actions were immediately criticized by iran hawks and likely to draw concern for israel and gulf arab states in addition to signaling a willingness to talk with iran the administration also reversed trump's determination that all un sanctions against iran had been restored and it eased stringent restrictions on the domestic travel if iranian diplomats posted to the united nations. The state department announced the move following discussions between the secretary of state. Anthony blinken and he's british french and german counterparts and as biden prepares to participate albeit virtually in his first major international events with world leaders. The announcement came a day before biden to speak to leaders of the group of seven industrialized democracies and later. In the day address the annual munich security conference at both biden is expected to discuss his commitment to multilateral diplomacy and his desire to undo damage that trump's positions may have caused over the previous four
Patience While Waiting on God
"First of all. Let me tell you what patience is. And what it's not. Patience is not just waiting on god. We're all gonna wait on god. Everybody whites even nature weights flowers. Wait trees wait for the sunshine in the rain. We're we're all waiting for the provision of god but patients. Listen is how you behave while. You're waiting time to wake up how we behave while we're waiting on god to do what only god can do says so much about our character and we need to have real stable godly character. Not just a fish on our bumper. A man and a hawk. If you love. Jesus bumper sticker we. We need more than that. And we need to do. More than just go to church on sunday and thank. We've done our little bit. We need to get out in the world and behave as jesus. Would you know the bible. Says we are his representatives. That god is make listen to that they got is making his appeal to the world through us. You may be the only jesus your neighbor overseas and so it's very important that we have some of the same situations in our lives that they do but we handle them in a totally different and godly way. Your example is very important to the world so the bible tells us that we're going to have to wait and that we that we need to develop this fruit of patients and patients comes from a greek word. That says it's a fruit of the spirit that only grows under trial. So you you know. That's why i don't like to pray for patients because they know they're gonna get trouble but do know how wonderful it is. Not that i've arrived but a little taste of it. I've been at this now for forty years so hopefully imperfectly. You learn little something in forty years. And i've still got a long ways to go but god has really changed me and i have stability in my life now. At least most of the time. I can behave the same way when things are going. Good as if they're not going so good and that is so important for each of us to realize that we can't just go up and down. Our circumstances go up and down and be motionlessly. Moved by everything that's going on in our life. The bible says we walk by faith and not by sight. So that means we're not supposed to live according to how we feel and according to how things look are how they same but according to the word of god and god tells us that he could. He is to be trusted that he will take care of us. I want you to listen to me today. God will take care of you.
Atlanta mayor comments on NBA All-Star game
"The nba. All star weekend is usually one of the most socially active periods on the calendar. But that obviously isn't the sort of event that makes sense during pandemic and atlanta mayor. Kisha lance bottoms has expressed concerns about what holding the game in that city would mean she says. Under normal circumstances we would be extremely grateful for the opportunity to host the nba all star game but this is not a typical year. I have shared my concerns related to public health and safety with the nba. The atlanta hawks. We are in agreement that this is a made for tv event. Only and people should not travel to atlanta to party. Now the all star game was originally slated to be held in indianapolis but that event was moved to atlanta due to the cova demi players and their guests will not be allowed to leave their hotels outside of league sanctioned events and a number of players have expressed concerns over the idea of playing all star game at all and if even one player arrives with the virus and spreads at the entire league would be in danger.

"hawk" Discussed on Jay and Miles X-Plain the X-Men
"I'm Jay Editon and I- miles stokes and this is Hawk talk where we talk hawks. Sort of a standard disclaimer applies this is not a standard episode of Jane Mouse Explain The X. Men in the least normally we you know explain the X. men but this is one of our skip weeks. So. Instead, we just talk about a bunch of random stuff and don't edit it at all. That's right. So if you are here for way more than the rest of the month, put together, you've come to the right place. Indeed you I'm have also hawks. Also hawks. Yes. So Impasse Hawks, we've talked about a number of topics not usually actually hawks mostly we've talked about different types of media. You know like the movies of you're up on video games who grew up or or whatever right, and we've mostly sorted those by the specific media we're talking about. But a were kind of a out of major genres of media. And be we wanted to mix it up a little 'cause you know changes fun and so I think roughly an hour before we started recording this J. Kinda cool idea for a topic, right so this is our first October huck talk and we figured in the spirit of the month. We should probably go autumnal end and go with you know the general general category of Spooky at least spooky. I. I've come to really embrace ruby as as the adjective that. Not, only the actually Spooky stuff but the this sort of cute spooky Autumnal Halloween adjacent spirit. Where did that word come from which that's just like a typo on something it was on a product that was sold in some major chain. Okay that's even better without reminds me this is unrelated anything at all So one of Anna's clients just got her a very long lake, a costume quality cigarette holder based on a weird conversation they've been having and and it's destroyed describes itself as a beatnik cigarette holder unbeaten spelled c. k., and beat Nixon had chosen. The illustration are some very square looking one, thousand, nine, hundred, eighty s guy in. A suit and a hat saying it's cool man and a woman in like a fancy dress and pearls saying it's a way out like Awa A. Y. and I think the people who made this product may have been very confused in a number of different directions. This feels like someone writing teenagers these days except it's teenagers in those days and it's being written by someone who was never actually a teenager. I feel like Stanley is probably somehow responsible for this seems likely. Anyway, we're not here to talk about Stan Lee's Beatnik cigarette holders. I, guess we're here to talk about. Can we call it Hawk Tober talk talk we're talking about. You're going GONNA to say we're here to talk about over the garden wall because in all fairness that's probably what we're going to spend most of this episode on I mean probably yes. But yeah, that said we'll talk about some media including over the garden wall and some kind of fall activities including washing the over the garden wall and some Halloween rituals and costumes like that time. I dressed up as a character from over the garden wall okay. Yeah. You're right. There's probably going to be a lot of that. That's what I'm expecting but go starting with general. Autumn. So. It's really pretty you're one of the things that's really amazing about living in an adjacent to New England I'm still mostly in Connecticut right now. Is that it's what I think of its greeting card country like the season's here are the season's that I saw growing up in like pictures on greeting cards and magazines but not in real life that I was just an idealized landscape and it turned out that no, it's just actually new Okay. So it's like Norman Rockwell but not the people parts just the nature. Apparently it's literally Norman Rockwell country. He lives here. He lived like three hours from here and the Norman Rockwell Museum by the way if you are within a reasonable distance from somewhere in Massachusetts, it's really interesting and it's a really really cool place to check out. Okay I I make it to the east coast. So seldom especially lately, but that does on Rattus, hell yes. That that is one of my general autumn recommendations, but it's the leaves are changing here. It's really really really gorgeous and things things have like they've just gotten to the point where they're falling. They're crunchy leaves under the foot with which the chickens are really interested in. I would imagine chicken seem like they're interested in a lot of things they are they are they're very, they're very generally interested in the world around them. I appreciate that? Yeah I am I'm never going to get over actual seasons because you know you weren't born in Florida but we both pretty much grew up in Florida and. Florida doesn't have those traditional seasons like Florida essentially has summer and slightly less summer as the options. And so I remember when we first went to college in western North Carolina. Lake we went there. You know in the fall because fall semester and Holy Shit there were all these leaves and they were falling off trees and they were different colors and I mean this sounds so basic probably to a lot of people listening to this episode but that was revelatory for me almost as revelatory is the fact that there were people under sixty five that existed in. That town. Well, the thing too is that you use skipped from south Florida to the police that does autumn better than anywhere else on earth I mean nothing nothing touches the Blue Ridge mountains even even what I'm describing like it's pretty and it's pretty Ao. This is this is the thing i. saw movies worth knew about theory, but it's but yet nothing nothing doesn't like Ashville. Yeah I, Miss that place I really WANNA go back in at this point in large part, just four seasons for me. It's not even the novelty so much. So I lived in Indiana until I was about to turn seven and then move to south. Florida and lived there until college. And because of that, I think pacificist specifically because of the age I was when I moved there. Autumn. Sits at a precise intersection of novelty and establish a for me. That that makes a lot of sense. Yeah, and honestly I feel like. I feel like nostalgia is a concept that autumn does well like I was thinking about what autumn means especially. So I like marking the solstices and the equinoxes it's just a fun little secular way of doing ritual and. This past tunnel Equinox I was looking at kind of what different people dead and there's a lot of pagan stuff and that's cool. But that's not really my thing but I did find cool description when reading up on. Mabon Bobbin. Jay. Say That I don't know to say that I don't know what you're trying to say spelled out. May Be Oh anyway. It's like a pagan celebration of of the equinox, but one of descriptions that I I read about it was that it was to give thanks for the past summer and to pay tribute to the coming darkness which not meddle as hell for starts but. I think that sense of kind of bittersweet nostalgia of of letting go of these experiences that you've had an preparing to tone things down like that's a lot of what autumn can be I mean you were you were talking about things that feel appropriate to the equinox specifically, which is a bit past down the thing that I just came. To mind immediately is the first adventures of Pete and Pete Summer. Special. Yeah exactly. That was one of the things I wrote down on my little list of things to bring up for this episode the eventually Pete it's weird because it set through all four seasons over the course of this show but there are so many parts of it that just feel like autumn especially that one. Yeah. I. Think actually might my entire essay or at least a fair chunk of it in the Zine that we did about the adventures of Pete and Pete is about how it feels like it always feels like autumn minute even when it's not yet I mean this was named after one of the songs from the soundtrack waiting for October like very much that. And I don't know I mean that feels especially the case this year like this.

"The Tony Hawk franchise called pretending I'm a superman which is aligned from this song and the lead singer from from. Goldfinger. was in it and he was like at the time nobody wants to put their songs in video games or anything like that because it was like selling out but he's sky. So directly connected to like skateboarding culture and things like that. They were like absolutely you have to otherwise the game won't be good. They had to do both things sort of like exist because the other one exists and it's very very. Very. Very interesting. Thing the documentary also made me tear up. I was. I was very emotional watching this thing just to watch these people talk about how grateful they were. that. Tony asked them to be in the game like it's such a cool thing because he had the humidity in br he, he could have been the only skater in the game. You could've just been Tony Hawk it's true yeah. Skateboarders the I am there are a lot of celebrities who would have made that decision and be like, Oh this is about me but I it seems from everything I know about Tony Haughey, it seems to be like a seems kind of rule as a human being. Yeah. A very wholesome like cool Nice Guy Image you guys should follow him twitter. He mostly posts about people who think he might be Tony Hawke like he'll be like TSA checkpoint and a Guy I'll be like, hey, you got you got a skateboard there. Hi. Tony. Hawk. and. It'll be like, yes, I'm I'm Tony Hawk it'll be like no way and that'll be the exchange that he opposed. To twitter yeah. No, he He's very he's very fun because yeah he just like at this point he's like. He's in like the bonus stage he's just sort of like Oh. Yeah. I did all the crazy things that I was ever going to do and now I'm just having fun. He rules the bonus stage of life you mean yeah exactly video game. He's not just the the helicopter drop as it would be.

"Because probably the original to that I remember everybody who's ever been to an arcade has played this one, seven twenty and that was actually a really damn good video game. You know the only problem was they had the bees that follow johnstone you and then you died but after your time was up, but that was actually a damn good game and I know. Actually been watching a lot of skateboarding documentaries and I think Steve Caballero actually was involved with seven twenty in the marketing of IT and some of the game play and stuff like that which makes sense but. Seven twenty was a damn good game. I still would love to get a cabinet for the studio just to have because I. it would be a ton of fun especially if there's a way to turn these off, so you could actually just skate around and have fun but it had actually Kristie member that game I it had more of the skate park feel. It's like they actually did something really good and we're talking early eighties mid eighties at this point, and then it was like all of a sudden skateboarding went off the rails on Mcmahon seven twenty if you would have just like followed up on what you had. Like I dunno Chris like it was it was a damn good game. Yeah that I think it predated me a little bit. They may of had. At the local skating rink, they might have had a seven twenty cabinet, but I always got distracted by that. Simpson's game where like it's like that Simpson's fighting game you I just called it the simpsons but for whatever reason probably just because. Nineties Bart Simpson at the time was still. I think more culturally relevant and I hate to say that but as somebody who is in way too many Simpson's mean groups on facebook but. You know I so I don't I don't remember ever really playing seven twenty as a kid and. Certainly don't have the certainly don't have the cabinet and I don't think any of the compilation games that I ever bought with all the old arcade cabinets on them that got released for like playstation one or two I don't think I ever had that on there. So might have predated me a little bit. I. Kind of jumped in more obviously in the nineties I I haven't perfected time travel, but if I can get back to the eighties and play it, I will certainly let you know. That project action may take on a very different theme. A little more about time travel. Yeah. For the sake of this show, I'm going to give you a rundown real quick of some of the Games that I played in the eighties. Just went skateboarding video games I coming in and there's a game called California Games that came out on the Apple Computer. And it's actually pretty damn good. It had a bunch of stupid stuff like Hacky sack roller skating and Frisbee in it, but they actually had a half pipe. And it was actually that was the highlight of the whole damn game was the half pipe on the skateboards trust me it wasn't hacky sack and flying disc and whatever hell else they had in there but Yeah. So there was California Games other than going I know at one point ESPN released like an ex scheme staying and that was I think for ps two and I remember that being kind of steaming pile garbage as well as like Tony Hawkes was out there. So it was like X. Games oh well, we're we got a cash in on that they threw out some garbage game. Think MTV throughout saying something to with Anne McDonald trying to compete with Tony Hawk, which it wasn't bad. But it wasn't Tony Hawkes either and it's like. So I'm just looking down this list of games. So this was the first game I actually ever owned and I put a ton of time in and this was an NSF. Do you have any s Chris? Now I never I never went far back enough for the S. I did. As a kid. I did have a Mattel in television that was free from a thrift store but. But I don't think they ever actually got skateboarding on that system and frankly I don't think we ever booted that system. So there there is taking space. Yeah there is. So if you are an any s fan out there listening to this notice, probably quite a few you there is a skateboard game that is worth buying and worth owning and it's called Skater Die Ultra Games it was actually really good. So I had that as a kid in the eighties and that was the best home skateboarding game you could find I. Think there was a follow-up scared I two I never played that one I'm assuming is probably decent because the first one was so good. But it was actually a really really good game. So if you're in any s vintage. Vintage. You know I I guess video game person when the s look up skate die of the cover arts actually really rad for it to It's got a guy doing a hand plan on a half pipe but it lives up to it. It's it's actually very good game so that one I invested a ton of time in as a kid it was just a it was a really really fun game you know but you know all this is going on and then like you said, street skater came out on playstation and then all of a sudden X. Games hit Tony Hawk doesn't nine hundred. Boardings kind of on the forefront of everything and then boom Tony Hawk drops this game. Instantly, he becomes even a bigger celebrity than he is Chris then he brings everybody with him. There was kind of popular at the time. I mean Bucky last week was involved here Bob Byrne Quist I know Chad Mosca I just watched a documentary two days ago and Chad Musk. Which? We could do an entire episode on Chad BUSCA. That's right. There's a bucket list interview for me if I could ever do Chad Moscow on the show but he was even talking about it. He goes look man because I was like I was popular at that point and he goes you know he's like because of skating and because of his antics and you know an and he kinda but Tony Hawk Kit and now all of a sudden. He said that video game he goes he he went from being like this super popular skater to all of a sudden. He's hanging out in clubs, Paris Hilton and Nicole Richie, and like like full-on Hollywood celebrity Mosca. They did a European tour for for one of the his skateboard company said that video game literally he goes..

He floats in and then he's like sequel time. Bitch like we have plans for you dark one. We're not done with you. Even though you failed completely at everything we set you up to do, but yeah. Just wearing it around in the forest for days on end so Hawkin, this giant riding long and they see who's this and the Forest Patricia Quinn Oh. Some wizards are meeting in the south for Bad Business Hawk is like Perhaps you should go to the south instead the giant and the giants like I guess I won't be making that money. After all ha ha, ha and they write off to the sequel, which was never made, but which I assume would have been called Hawk the surprise bad guy where he turn out that like everyone suddenly realize like oh hawk is really misusing. This mind stowed soared by just slaughtering. People left and right now okay. Actually tried to kickstart a sequel like ten years ago, maybe for Hawk the hunter. Feel like that seems like a downgrade being air from from slayer so upgrade from slayer. A. Following Cube Cube rules hyper slayer. Okay, that's cube rules I mean. I guess Stewart metal terms. What would be one step up from slayer again slayer top tier. If you like that kind of sound, it's not my favorite. Metallic the next step up from slayer, arguably I guess I. Guess That's true. It's like it's slightly more. Melodic and slightly fewer songs about Nazi war criminals. slightly. What would you? What would you so so dead stands pitch for the Sequel Hawk hyper slayer. Do you guys have pitches lined up for the sequel? The face, Masher, that's pretty good, yeah! Very specific. My Real Be Hawk the kindergarten cop where he's got to go undercover as a kid God. So, here's the story There's a kindergarten and guess who's the principal Voltron. That's right. He's training these kids to be evil wizard, sacrifices or something looks. Someone's gotTa go undercover because Hawk Kansas Walk in there. Voltaire will recognize him their brothers, and so he's got to go in as the new teacher h off Mr Harold Ach and he knows he's teaching the kids. His own brand of here's how you use a sword. Here's what a milestone does. One Kid talks about how his dad is real sex machine just like in the original movie and then. I don't know what happens at the end of kindergarten cop. They've got to climb up on Elektra towers something like that. I do I'll I know. We talked about getting Felicia out of here early and you've introduced a whole new bit at the end. Okay. Let's just call it kindergarten Hawk and we'll deal with the details so damn what we do after we talk about the same and I'll read the treatment look. I'll read the tree later. To you if I get notes on that, that'd be great. Can we can. We can attach a producer possibly star. You know what? I'll have to I have to talk to my people. My people will get back to you as fair. Maybe that'd be my three year old. Okay what would you now? This is the final part of the movie portion of this movie podcast. I mean we talk about movies later, but whatever you know what I'm talking about and that is where we make final judgments about whether this is a good bad movie, a movie that was funny and Badness, a bad bad movie a movie that we just didn't like or a moving lights, and that's you know self explanatory I think I'm the dissenting voice, so maybe I shouldn't go I I. Don't know if I should go last. Go Go! All Right? Here's what I would say I. A unique notion to me. I'm sure although I came to it on my own, so I'm gonNA. TAKE CREDIT FOR IT A. Dan We. Hundreds of years. No I was GONNA say like. Movies are obviously about the plot of the movie, but also in a way they are all documentaries in that they are time capsules of when they're made and bad movies. I feel like are often or low budget. Let's say movie is not bad, are doubly so because they can't afford like big costume, designers or whatnot stuff that might you know. People are like bringing stuff from home. It feels more of the time and so on that level I really enjoyed the movie. I like all the silly stuff like the glowing balls, but. On the downside for me, I don't WanNa make it seem like I. Don't like fantasy, I feel like I insulted something very dear to other members of of the podcast right now, I I like it a lot, but it is not like the first genre that. To me so usually I feel like there has a thing specifically I connect with. Where's this movie? Feels like it was sort of generated by a random fantasy movie generating machine, it feels very basic in the in the plot and I don't. I don't want to be too down on it because I think. Although fantasy literature was was a thing before this for a while the sort of high fantasy I mean only for centuries. Well I mean like. This specific like twelve esque lake thing sort of took over a lot of fantasy. Like mostly existed in literature, and this was one of the earliest movies really. I don't WanNa Dang it too much for that, but the story just bored me guys. I just couldn't get into that part of it. But what you guys say. I I. I don't know mar marginal. Good bad. Maybe but I mostly was bored, not Dan. It's I mean you don't have to. You don't have to feel bad about not liking it. Just because I'm going to say, this is a movie I kind of liked. Because it is, but not it's not very good. It's not a good movie but I think the reasons you didn't like. It are the reasons that I particularly liked it that. The, it feels like the most basic template fantasy movie I can think it really feel like they're like. What are we having a fantasy movie? There's a bad guy. Okay. There's a magic sword great. Throw it, and there's a witch may be okay, do it? There's a giant and abortion and Elf. Yes, hold on, throw it in. Yes, do we have time to add any extra touches? Touches I joke about a chicken at one point? Okay, otherwise like there's something so like her low budget fantasy movie about this that I really enjoyed and I think the things that you've found boring which were like the endless scenes of him riding through the forest. I watched that for I. Don't Know How many hours it was just like. This is so perfectly what it is and. I was such a fan of the music such a fan of the just the the hyper editing of the crossbow bolts. Definitely it it's..

Get to him for short and speaking of Great British actors that we're going to highlight Hawk right into the woods for while it's not time for the main adventure time for introductory quest, a woman is about to be burned by two brigands at the stake as a witch, and this is something Haug does a lot which is right to the woods until he comes across an injustice and then kill all the bad guys. and. Hurt her a lot of people for good being goodbyes, coke quote unquote there. Is. Tons of murder and something that I wasn't ready for, but which I found kind of refreshing was how stern and humorless Hawk is I'm to like your Chris Pratt or like you know Robert Downey junior type heroes in these big movies now these days to have a hero who is so incredibly humorless and Justice Yes. I stop! That will kill you. Okay, killing you now, We're not paying the ransom. It wouldn't be worth it. Voltron must die. It was like wow, this guy's not even trying to entertain. It's lousy with brigands around these parts, right was a dark time where the woods full of brigands, and there were no towns or villages later on they go to a blacksmith who just seems to have a stall in the middle of the woods in the middle of the woods. You can see what Tony's is doing on Instagram at Tony Hawk. Basically those are two words sort of associate with skateboarding. Good catching up with you. Tony thank you for making the time. Hope everything is well. Can you tell us? Can you explain to us when you started skateboarding? The differences between what it is and what. It's become an what it started at when you were starting when I started it was mostly just considered a toy liken to yoyos or Hula hoops. It was really just like the fad that a lot of people thought came and went and I got hooked because I saw people flying out of MD assuming pools and it just spoke to me. I love the way that it more like. Aerial tactics almost like gymnastics and it was daring and it was different and I just got hooked on very at a very early age and nowadays. It's very much A mainstay the kids are doing it as much as they do. Play Law Sports and It's in the Olympics next year and parents are encouraging it and It's it's an actual living. I think that's probably the biggest difference wanted that change. Was that with you I would say over the last fifteen. Twenty years has been the biggest shift in perception I think a lot of it. I mean I I think our video game helps out in terms of popularity. I think the X. Games were a big part of that and it's also just sort of a sign of the Times kids we're looking for for different outlets and and you know the jackass generation likes stuff. That was a little more daredevil. When you talk about the video game Can you tell us how that came to be? What reticence you had about doing it because people were going to start calling you names and a sell out and everything else. After CA I was It was a group effort. I actually had been pitching a skating video game. Two different developers And because I had been in contact with a programmer who had a very crude skate engine And we didn't have much luck We didn't we didn't really get anywhere with it but because I had been doing that activision was already working on a skating video game and they had heard that I was interested so they connected the dots and had me come up to their office and see what they were doing and I instantly knew that this was the game because I could I could sense. It was intuitive. It felt like fun type of Skating. But not something you had to. The learning curve wasn't very wasn't very long and so I signed up right away. I never really thought about the concerns of being called a sell out because I love video games like my whole life so I thought wow this would be a really fun project and to get to have some influence over how skinny portraying video game is important because I wanted to be authentic and so if nothing else I was just proud be bringing skateboarding to this video. Game Audience I would say the whole cell factor came as as the game start to sell. That's sort of the determining factor as it was actually selling out. You obviously had a lot of creative control over the look and feel of the game. It's an iconic soundtrack to that video game. I'm wondering how much input you had on Matt. My input was more based on the older tracks that were part of our culture so when you think about skating especially when I was growing up in eighties the soundcheck skate parks scanning was punk music. And so that was that was what I brought into the fold Activision has a very robust music department. So they brought in more newer van so the bands that people Identify with the game like Goldfinger. Superman melancholy no cigar. That was more on their end. But I brought in dead Kennedys and PRIMIS and acts and black flag and things like that. You still skate every day. For the most part yeah I mean it is my it's my preferred form of exercise and I have I'm very lucky. I have a small park in my backyard. I also have my own private vert. Ramp Down Street so Though that's what I've been doing for the last couple of months I've been home or at the Ram. Turn if you have a funny story about state boarding in or inside or around the White House you did that for President Obama I did. I got invited there For a father's Day event and it was more about Spreading a message of of being a pro. You know being present as a father and I just brought my skateboard along because every time I go somewhere. That's of any sort of importance people ask me. Where's your skateboard? And so I figured well. I'M NOT GONNA get caught here like that without my board and I didn't really even wasn't in the plan that I was in escape but then at some point I found myself walking down a hallway and figured I could just drop my skateboard down cruise through here and get a photo that would be funny or interesting and I did The My my tour guide slash escort sort of turned a blind eye because he didn't WanNa be responsible for that and then I took a photo of it and it blew up I had no idea of of the sort of Interest or controversy would create But I do it again. I mean I I was. You know it was It was a problem moment for me. I brought skateboarding to the White House. Do you have something that you wouldn't do again like along your career. I don't know whether it's broken bones or something else but something that you look back on and we're like man over the last thirty years of doing this. I shouldn't have done that. Yeah I would not Do a segment for Jackass or wild boys wearing a gorilla suit in doing a full loop. I I would choose to skip that part of my life Because it ended up with a broken pelvis and how bad was that? What are the specifics of that The specifics was we were doing a segment for wild boys. With Steve. O and Chris Pontius and they had a an rang a Tang that skated so we were mimicking neurontin. And then we end up doing one of those full new brands and that day it went sour I fell from the top and Broke my pelvis broke my thumb faction my skull and I basically was out of skating for about three months Which was my longest Hiatus Tony Hawk with us. You were mentioning the video game. It has been or is about to be re released. What was your life like right before that video game? And what did you think was going to be the maximum earning off of something like that? What the highest end of what? You'll legend look smaller than this. No yeah well. The the game was we were working on through. Nineteen Ninety eight and nineteen ninety nine for the most part I thought it was going to be a really cool game. That skaters would like and that was the extent of the success that I saw for it As released I felt this momentum and the excitement on activism behalf and they actually offered me a buyout of future royalty is right that time for Five hundred thousand dollars in. That seems insane to me that anyone would offer me not much money. I mean I'd never seen close to that in my lifetime And so they they said you know we we will give you this much right now and then you won't get any royalties going forward. And Somehow I you know even though that cloud in my judgment of the I thought well. I'm actually doing okay. I was I was making pretty good money with endorsements and with competition earnings and I just purchased a new house and I thought I'm GonNa let us on ride and see what happens in for sure. That was the best Financial in my lifetime art. Hold on a second hold on a second. So I don't WanNa get indelicate into the privacy area but the idea that you basically have the strength and and financial fortitude to do that that got you how much morning because that decision five hundred thousand dollars. Of course that's going to be tempting but you not only made the right decision. You made the right decision right Many times over over the years. And there's a great answer but it's not a straight answer because I imagine you had no idea right you had you. You weren't making like but I did I mean every I would say for the first years of of the game release The checks kept increasing and at some point. It just became unreal. But I can't tell you that they're very very inflated Estimates of my net worth out there. Tony good talking to you. Thank you for making the time. We always enjoyed. Catch up with you sir. Yeah thanks for having me again. You can follow him on instagram. It's pretty easy to do at Tony. Hawk he is. I don't associate any other name with skateboarding. Anti how old is he isn't he? He's is he yet because low the idea. What skateboarding has become at least in part because I think he would be considered the leading pioneer. Yeah fifty two years old. I'm trying to show me. I mean that means he's been basically doing that for four decades and scenic gone from a Yoyo to this thing that spawned a lot of money. We're back after this GYCO. Has the insurance industry leading up and let you manage your policy anytime anywhere? Which means that Geico is always there for you. If only everyone was always there for you like animal control when you're cornered in your garage by angry possum again you guys said you would be here about an article and I think the positive is starting to get angry. Listen I thought it would go away. But now it is ripping holes in the drywall. And making some SORTA nest back guy. Go always there for you with savings and the industry leading mobile APP. If you missed any of.

"Still not that hard to I. Hope do you still skate every day? I try yeah like I said it's still do stuff. You still push it. We're like fuck shouldn't try this some fifty one myself. I push myself in sort of a in a different. I don't WANNA say muted but but more technical way where I do tricks that are way more difficult and require a different skill set than what people are used to seeing. That's these huge air type of maneuvers. That are high impact. So what I'm doing now has shifted my style into more low impact tactical moves. That are probably more better appreciated by the skate community as being progressive but they they give me that what I need. Yeah did you see the video? He dropped Tony. Hawk does fifty six at fifty now fifty tricks that he had learned over the years. But all all wearing the same outfits. He knew he was doing them now. And they're all tricks then that's amazing but that was Cathartic because there are few of those that I did not that I realized I don't want to do this whenever really. Yeah yeah so that was. That was the last one I'd say at least four of them. Have you taken any like diggers in your later lately? Where whole split my open? Just November. You did doing what skin pool you just bailed val and I know I was a little bit stickier than anticipated and I came in on a trick and my wheels are I. I kinda I slide. My wheels on my on that on the way in on trick wheels didn't slide when I didn't take consideration and so my foot actually from foot came off but I was already committed to coming in and I had a helmet on. I hit the bottom and a hit so hard I felt slid up and then all of a sudden they're just blood dripping down my eye and I got it was and it was a pretty basic friendships. I can live slide. Like yeah head is bleeding and I come out but the interesting thing about that is that I was at a public skate. Park and a bunch of kids had realized I was there and started texting their friends and whatnot and so all these people were starting to arrive and I come out of the bowl blood and the interesting aspect about all. That is that nobody cared. They're like can I get a photo? This didn't matter at all blood all over your face. Yeah and so I had a sweatshirt. My bag and I put the sweatshirt up to it to stop the bleeding and just took a much selfie trying to get out of there so there's plenty of photos. Anita's bleeding and it was just such A. I was so fast and finally like someone's mom was like. Are you okay. Kids just thought that was Dan life. That may the new the new generation of skaters now where they pushing stuff to always pushing to limits. That are just. They're doing stuff that we were doing in our video game twenty years ago that we thought like this. Can you imagine no one will ever do this? And now that's what they're doing just crazy crazy. Technical combos tax landing into grinds flipping out. Yeah in order to even land those tricks and complete those tricks. Don't you have to just eat shit a lot because you know what I mean? Yes and no. I mean some of them. Yes because they're big handrails and big gaps big aerial type of stuff. Some is just footwork right and super technical and it takes a thousand attempts to get one. Yeah but if you get it on video you got the glory it's True. It's all about getting on this one thing that's always seemed a little strange to me. That people can land one trick once after a thousand tries and never do it again and then it's like thing. I made that when when I was talking about how. I've sort of shifted my style. Most of those tricks that I've done in the last I'd say four years I'm not one. Yeah that was really know. It was just too much work to get too much work. Yeah I can't I can't put myself through it again. Wow Is there anything that's happening in today's skate culture that you don't like we are like? I don't like this. I wish it wasn't happening. You know what I mean even the attitudes or I don't know I mean I in eighty diverse i. I can't a commotion if I was like this is a right. Don't do this. It's just I feel like skating. Has taken is become this lifestyle and this this culture that so diverse and so inclusive that I love how far it's come dude. I can totally understand that because I've been with my boys now and at these Skate parks and stuff and it is so unbelievably inclusive. Everyone is is so nice and everyone is ready to help every hour. You it's dope. Let's talk about the the game. We're twenty one years out from the first game release which was only on the Early Systems Ps One Eventually Nintendo sixty four. And so now. We have a chance to do all the same mechanics. Seem skaters same tricks. Same same level. Same maps for the newer systems so ps four xbox one teno switch and it's so it's so fun to see all of that come to this super Detailed and amazing motion and Graphics. And you know because Then people have been asking for for a very long time. Oh this is such A. This is a big huge. Yeah so we did Tony. Pro Skater Skater. One and two as one game re master with all the original lineup all end and then we're getting new skaters as well. What about the sensory without soundtrack soundtrack soundtrack no sound but but also newer stuff? So sick you music soundtrack. Meeting like old you'll music. Yeah the stuff you knew. Goldfinger melancholy and dig. Kennedy's longest machine. Yeah it's Subaru. This is going to be so it's a little for people like myself. There's a nostalgia. Ya there there. There is this reverence for the game and the series and people want it in the newer systems. Obviously but also there's just a whole new generation. The doesn't know that game at all and the only skate game ever played was the EA version. And so they're gonNA get to experience with this. My kids have games just on their on their mobile devices. Where it's just like it looks escape. Yeah Yeah exactly. And they do little kick flips. And Yeah so. I'm really excited to bring T H. Ps Two this new generation and we have vicarious visions is just the exact right group to to do it. Let's do our speed round okay. One word to describe the other thoughtful kind which sibling fight with the most. Why is that why why I mean? She's just just a forest. I'll tell you the story about Pat. When she was at one point he was doing and she was in conversation to get him sponsored by a company that will remain unnamed. And I knew that the guy who was head of marketing there who was when off he was Early adopter of ink heads full sleeves back in the nineties and was cutting known as being a pretty tough guy in the world. He had one conversation with pat over the negotiation and I ran into a couple of weeks later and he goes yes. I'm your sister Pat. Yeah Dude she's GNARLY. Yeah I mean she would take a bullet for him so after you want running. Jaya she she she does I. I am the one when we were.

He's one of the original founders of the blues. Thank you so we're learning ally and I feel like I'm in college almost as we designed this game. Can I teach a class on the blues? Yeah just something that we should have. The student actually attend the Class. So downloadable content upgrades more meals. You can in game purchase more REVENUE STREAM. Good idea breath so smart so yeah so. I'm going to go ahead and Click and I'm going to pay like three hundred dollars or whatever it is to get my like. Blues Class from a now my guys going into learning about the blues bread the say like some facts and stuff like talk about tall man no man blues about listening. It's about feeling it. You don't talk about facts with the blues. You either have it or you. Don't okay that's disappointing for me as someone taking the class Already paid for just to find out that you either have a you. Don't but the only way you know you have. It is to listen to me. Play it and okay you either feel it right out there. Are you drop out motiur right now look back at me? Don't listen to me okay. Yeah stop look at your left for the rest of the class. Don't look more look at me. I'm the teacher who should be looking straight ahead. Well we have to do intramurals. Alya a great way to meet other people in the class and of course this is a Tony Hawk. Game so we will be playing ultimate frisbee ultimate. Frisbee is a great place to meet some of the crunchier dudes and do debts on campus. And a lot of them hang out on the quad in front of Earth House. Where all the are mentally conscious. Students live I'm going to select to purchase my tie-dyed shorts for an extra three hundred dollars or whatever. It is so that my character will fit in when we appear there When I arrive at ultimate Frisbee I have the option to have a conversation or just try to get in the game. What are you select together? I'm going I'm going getting the game. Okay you grab the Frisbee and Hukou way too hard. It goes flying in. No one can find it. Everyone's mad at you dammit. Doug I start over Yup fill out all new We shop so there should be a skateboarding. Element in this Kay I'm here. Ever been jumping the gun. I in college. It's just to get to class. That's it back. Can we the coolest way to get to class? Oh yes so you are escape board you go to college with your your master the owner and they when they get to college they lean you up against the wall behind the door and you're disappointed because they're like meeting other friends and they've met this whole family now. That's their roommate. And they're not as focused on you the skateboard anymore. You Miss Them. And you're like collecting dust behind the door. And maybe you're meeting like other stuff that's back there like a tennis ball or something but then the he starts taking you to class. That's cool and so you hit the button to just kind of like gently kick the skateboard along to class. And then You can take out other people's Shins on the way. And and and how do you do this with your with your foot or you just use the skateboard? You run into their Shin. You just you just kind of misdirect him so runs into different shins or we call it a shark bite. If you go on behind the Ankle Iceland could be an interesting Linda. I'm just bringing it around. No but you barked shins and I guess. We want to design the deck for the SKATEBOARD. Like a obviously. It's not just going to be a plane. Like wooden. Surface could be a still image from the film finding Neverland. You know what mean just the just something to say. Hey I'm a lover of film I obviously want to know my history but the the movie about the life of Jam Buried Finding Neverland. Did you see this Tony if you watch that? No that is fake story. A leaving Neverland. I didn't see finding Neverland. Okay well you have to fight it. I can't believe that is out of order okay. I think they are two entirely different concepts though it's a two thousand. Four historical fantasy drama film is directed by Mark Forster. Okay thank you seven. Nominations at the Seventy Seven Academy Award. So we're back in two thousand four and you say okay. Seven nominations somehow. I need more nominations. Maybe an eighth nomination and I go. Check out the flick. Maybe at that point I just think maybe maybe I think too much attention and I am here holding down. What the underrated. Very secret movie. You saw two thousand four instead of finding Neverland that we can direct our audience to go and check out. Oh Man I don't have that my fingertips okay. And he's lying again. You're looking up everything and I've just here. I am fully fixated. You have my full attention. I'm not outs like searching the Internet for other facts and directors nominations. But I will if you want. Shampoo would carry water. No no no. It's fine I want you in the moment man so semper in present I think that you okay I got it. Shaun of the dead. They go look it up okay. That's my two thousand four movie and that's because my name's Shawn and you wish I was dead. They yeah I wish you were in the Zombie Apocalypse. Pretty close to these days. Yeah that's that's my choice. Bella movie is good is pretty good. It's not scary enough. I wasn't scared at all what I keeping my eyes open and staying not getting under my seat because I was feeling just actually not scared even a little bit during it so it was laughing but mostly at how scary it was fake. I was screaming most the entire thing fiqh every time someone died or got her. I was screaming fake. Oh my God. That's so fake. I and so I remember everyone else in the theater. Having a good time because of the energy I was able to bring to it but I don't remember the film itself really so as not to mention euro trip which also came out and to them or and was real and is a movie. That actually did happen. Do Remember Euro trip Kinda Fred Armas bothering him on the train. Oh no I didn't see that okay. Was that because I think they either are about. They're about to go to college of the movie. Is that right? Yeah Fanta last trip before college. Yeah I can see why you were in a fan. We should pick some songs please. We have to do new songs for the game stats like they should sound like songs we know. I mean like news too weird. Oh you mean like new songs that have never been in the game before our existing songs. Well we could also do new songs. Do you want to bread's good at songs Brechin do saw. Yeah Tony You WANNA create a little bit of the Soundtrack. I feel like you're checkout on the game. It seems like the college thing is not connecting for you. You really pushing to get to the action. But I don't know what you think that is if we're not attending class and earning a degree so that we can get a better job on the skating. The you know the taking pedestrians this game. I guess that's that's my wheelhouse. Shit was epic. That was a big win sauce and know that if we can get a maybe we get the music to that segment. I would be happy. Could have a better more accurate name for your company. And while the secret of it that it is like a bird and Hawkins stuff was very easy for me for some people. It was very confusing. And now we'll house. We're understanding that. Because that's basically what a skateboard as we make more skateboard wheels though. So that would be tricky. But I I get it. I was that even possible. Yeah specialty we. Don't we make the decks? And so people by other types of deals other we do make some wheels some do make bearings. I remember always happens on my bearings. Yeah we basically make sort of mid tier bearings in wheels and trucks for complete skateboards. But if you WANNA go higher end you get more component stuff and we can have all that all those available in in-app purchases. Yeah well I mean the thing is the way I see these games layout where you're going to buy a board or you're going to buy wheels. It's like as if they're already made. We don't go into the factory at all. We don't select different alloys or polymers. Anything let's let's actually make this a game that teaches people. Ooh That's how a wheel starts. Okay like back at us. Yeah the Oh the the. They're unionizing the workforce is unionizing. You gotta deal with that okay. Let's move. Let's move this production overseas. Do poison the water cooler. And what is the soundtrack to that? What's the what's the soundtrack poisoning the water cooler and eliminating breaks?.

"Tell me why it's name at because I break apart. Bird houses to make them into skateboards. That's why on the birth of nowhere to live and now are homeless. Well they birds laying their eggs and places where we can access that exactly so tony goes to the grocery store. He only get one carton of eggs. It's okay the birds are laying their eggs on the ground now because he broke all. The bird houses the ultimate supremacy of man over nature. You got it. It's a powerful message for this day and age that we will prevail humanities tough We've beaten the birds. We've taken their homes. And so what is some little crazy? microscopic bug. That's creeping around for us to defeat now but I do want to get to the game and the game. Is Tony's big family? Roller boogie edition. Modulus style we. Obviously I notice in some of these games. We kind of get dropped right into the skateboarding. Which is maybe the least interesting part. We don't really get a backstory of. Why are we skateboarding? Why we are where we yesterday. And what were we doing the day before and where we go to school and so we do want to try to instill the message of like. Let's tell story of WHO? This person is if we get to the skateboarding great. That would you know that'll be fun at the end of the game but let's sort of set the foundation so that we can build a house that lasts did you Did you go to college? Tony I did not not yet never too late. That's the answer. The answer is not yet. I can remember that we do believe in you. Thank you while you don't work. I'm applications you know when some of these Yahoos make college free. You know what's going to stop you exactly everybody. My Oh that Tony Hawk and gold. Sat sorts. It's true for the right price. It's true it's true so yeah no we should work on your application so I guess the first when you open like the load screen of the game. It'll say like starting application and then we'll fill out our college applications There's probably a personal essay portion that you can write as part of the game maybe like. Oh chain your life yeah. Is there like a summer experience to change your life or made you appreciate your family more you know and we could write that out. Do you have like a a story like that that we can help prop people type into the game? Wow Yeah but I feel like I shouldn't give them any hits. They've got to figure it out for themselves. One hit one little hand. Piney the name of a seed or something. Yeah we took all this. We check all the kids to a couple of years ago. That's Lola. She's she's mad that the wind is blowing me to that really makes me insane. Yeah luck must. They frightens her even leaves the room wearing these exactly. Yeah I mean now's not the time it's not about you right. No my dog is mad right now to apparently on my street. There's another dog that's crazy. Yeah well that's where he said he's he's been going no way right Yeah it's been a big big conversation between all of us. I bet you so. Yeah if you don't want to give a hint about the summer that no he said I sit yeah we. We took all the kids Iceland a couple years ago and it was fun and there were a few challenges we met with end came through better. Ron Shark did you eat the feted shark I have but not that trip not in Iceland just I did have home. I guess I in Iceland I did have. It's not penguin. But what is it called What's the other the other type of Penguin Dolphin Fan I'm talking about Yes yes yes. Matter Puffins puffins yes than me. I had a in Icelandic tasting menu in a serve puffins. Barbara'S ORGANIC PUFFING. It's really not good bobbins. No good peanut butter okay. Bret has so breads holding guitar. Ready Walk and loaded right now. This is Tony this is Brad. Hey Tony it's nice to meet you. I'm just here ready. If you need me I have. You know. I'm a big fan of the Games. And when I when I heard the the college application screen to me that got ideas. Really turning like yeah. I'd love to hear. What does the college application screen sound like? And maybe even you can you have if you have the chops you rufus all the way into like checking into the dorm room and getting set up and then kissing our parents goodbye. Oh Wow wow like okay. All right nice. Where are we in the game now okay? Well I've just I've just read a little essay about how I I guess. Didn't he run shark even though it's famous for and then Now I am like my lava lamp. I'm putting on my fight club poster. That's an Italian I'm I've setting up some really funny like funk. Oh pops and stop for people to discuss when they come in. That's pretty I feel like that is pretty heavy too quickly only because we have so much to do before you get to the actor listening. Yeah it's Kinda like an Mario when you're running out of time. He gets really fast right. Yeah that's one of my daughters. Biggest fears is one that music starts getting so doomed. Like that. When you're no no offense because let's scarier an army now armies way scarier. The Mario Army and so bas- all the phone co. Pops are set up and then your roommate comes in to be like. Hey what's up? And it is a whole family so it's kind of this new modern instant family that we see now in two thousand twenty. Where like you go to college and your roommates are a woman and a lot of children in the right. This is something that is happening now. Okay I didn't know that well because you didn't go but you don't but I guess I'm going. Yeah well when you go now you'll actually be prepared because haze is kind enough to explain to you that your roommate is often a woman several children. She's she's going to college. The whole family is everybody is. So they're like a bunch of Dewey Hauser's they're sort of they're all like one unit so they are essentially one Doogie howser. They all take classes together. They all take tests together as as a as a unit the family is one and they get one diploma at the end is how it works and Lola's well go a lot of explaining you think that's going to be difficult for people to understand in the video game. Yeah I feel like that story. Line is is a little getting a better roommates. An entire can't attending college as a single student as a collective one student. Yeah I got Tony. I mean you're not the audience for the you know like yeah. You're maybe slightly out of touch with the people who are playing your games. Who probably you're dealing with this firsthand almost every day yeah. I'm not the DEMO. Okay I get that yeah. I'm just trying to get to the action. That's all dude. Yes and I would like to do that too and for me. The action is signing up for classes. I like it's figuring like okay the July or at all. What can I take this for me? And what can I take that for my future? Because I don't I do know that I have kids in college so at least I get that. Yeah it's impossible to causes you want but yeah saying Tony. You don't have to decide everything right now. You don't have to. You're just starting college. You don't have to pick the courses you take now or not the career you're going to have for the rest of your life right. You don't have shit correction. Don't put that pressure. Most people change majors thirteen times in their first year of college and they change careers twice that much in their second year call. How do you get high scores? High scores Yeah well in the game study. Unfortunately there's no substitute I see as results are actually in college are going to play the video game about being in college and spend equal amounts of time on that. So they're real life. Yeah it is. This is how they will be going to college as well. Yeah this is so imagine this Kony. There's all like you buy a game for like whatever three hundred dollars whatever the cost now and you play the game and it has no like meaning to your life but it does not relatable doesn't apply we can create a game that people will. They cost a college tuition and is college. And you are taking this. You're playing this game and you are taking college and going to college and in the end when you graduate the game you walk up you hand it to your boss and you say. I'm ready to work now. Well okay so that it's better for us. We're replacing college. I know you wanNA grind the rail. But some of these people have to put their nose in the to the grindstone and actually read a book. Oh and so. What about textbooks in the? Yeah that sold separately do you do. The game has a an in game book store and it is just a list of directions to take you to the bookstore. We're still working out the kinks.

"Take a slam. If you WANNA PROGRESS. Do you think you learned that through skating or do you think you always kind of had that hit fall. Get up again before that. Do you think that something has developed skating and is now present your business or my reading into it too much. No for sure that. The idea of taking risks for the Sega Progression. That is the the exactly in tune with my business ethics. Someone's gotTa do it. Somebody's gotTa do it. I let's try and it doesn't always work and luckily I've had enough successes that I was allowed those failures but definitely in a case. Like what you said. The boom hugged him. You know the idea was that we would do a tour where our sports skateboarding being. Maximum motocross are the entertainment? Not The side show to a bigger event. You know that's how we did our exhibitions. It was like Oh. We're the halftime. Show the football game. Were in the parking lot of the big concert going on inside and I was like I think our sports have enough recognition now enough appreciation that we could be the center an arena tour and I drew up a ramp system that filled in arena floor and started looking for any kind of help and people were just dumbfounded. They're just like this is your crazy and so I- eventually wrote a check for the rams and just set an emotion and once we got something that was more viable you know once the ramps and play us. Once we had the crew we started picking up sponsors and we had the whole thing underwritten but it took that leap of faith. I was willing to risk literally millions of dollars because I believe in it. You're listening to the Jordan Harbinger show with our guest. Tony Hawk will be right back after this. This.

"Like Hawk is right on my phone. I've quickly put it into that little mode where you can't unlock it using face I._D.. Hold down the two buttons and you feel your phone. Go Click Click and you know that it's super locked so I hand the phone to the guy and each time. It seemed like they were doing what they were saying. I saw them take the phone. They put it in the little bomb scanner machine. The phone was never one hundred percents out of my sight like I kinda see it sticking out of the machine. The lightning port wasn't being used and then they hand the phone back to me so what I think people have told me I'm crazy paranoid but I think this is the thin end of the wedge to getting people. I used to handing over their phones that like the bomb detector. It's all a red herring. The real thing that they're trying to get you used to do is when you're passing through the airport. You may have to turn over your phone and in the future they might try to use these cloning machines that are supposedly enforce at the border but I think they're trying to domestically get people used to taking the phones and it wasn't just me like several times. There were other grumpy businessmen who didn't like this at all of like. Why do I have to give you my phone like oh no? It was just for the bomb detector. It's nothing else we're not doing anything but I I think they're trying to get people used to this. Am I being paranoid well. Yes I think that probably just had some intelligence that people are going to be using phones and phone batteries for some attack of some so said they just upping their game on phones interesting but I also think that is going to happen. I think in the U._S. and the U._K.. And other places at differently going down a path where like you know privacy and rights and like the state <unk> at imposing more control of people I mean I think this is going to happen. They're already asking via social media and you twit today toes and stuff when you into the country and and the next step is not getting you to volunteer to handle. It's just going into your fine and saying what you've been saying about the government and what can you do. It's nothing if you WANNA fly travel. That's an interesting point that you raise about. Perhaps there was just something about Oh phone batteries. He's being used as bombs because I know that they're all over lithium battery sizes. They're very concerned about lithium batteries and everything so like I I had to double check a bunch of things I was traveling with about the battery size. They can be very fussy about that so that's interesting that does make me feel slightly better but then can you slide directly into you. Do think that eventually they're just going to say we have to see your phone to fly. You think that's where this is going yeah. I don't WanNa be that guy and I don't think I really am that guy. I certainly don't want to grab it on about on the podcast where we prefer to joke around about flags moon landings but definitely we're saying like you know by the way is heading kind of more authoritarian taught direction at the moment these things ebb and fly and the way things ebbing at the moment Raymond. I think we're definitely moving towards a situation where the state is GonNa stop demanding to know what's in our phone if we're going to into their country and things like that yeah I guess the thing that concerns me is just that these were domestic flights yeah but I think like you know when things go in this direction. It's not just outside as the government starts what's looking at really really slow. Yeah and going on planes gives you that excuse gives you that that reason to do it. If we're going to let you on a plane which we now on our these dangerous weapons you gotta tell us more.

I feel like they'll be excited about I said, hey, do you guys want to go where we got invited to the incredible premier? I don't know. I'll see what's going on that day, really. Hey, would you like to go to this amusement park with? There's a ride I created. That's me. And and there'll be no line. Well, I don't know. How long is the drive? I do what I ask you one less thing. Is it true that you are the first person to be allowed to skateboard in the White House? I wouldn't say loud. Oh. Oh, yeah. Well, I was there during the previous administration. They had a bunch of prominent or a celebrity type father is coming and they were talking to a lot of different charities around DC, but everyone converged at the White House for in the morning, and I brought my skateboard because every time I go somewhere without my skateboard. People ask you that. Whereas keyboard, and so I was going to get caught there especially with the president. No asking. And suddenly, I found myself in a hallway on attended..
