"So you've got these restrictions on use yes it looks very similar to the house of bread you can go to shop today and by very similar to the size that actually handled a replica of the lunar camera which is owned by how supplied UK if you ask very nicely the lend it to you and you can have a look at it so it is no secret what it looks like as I say it's very similar to the one you can go to shop today and by right what about the focus I mean today we have things like auto focus we have well talking about the auto focus that they have such a thing back then yeah isn't that a good point that because as I mentioned earlier most people familiar with point and shoot cameras which do the focus automatically all this camera the Hasselblad camera use allegedly on the moon you have to focus it yourself now that is down quite simply by a ring on the on the lens the the lens is the is the best part of the camera that's the bit that comes out of the front you have to you have to focus it now you can only really focus a camera by looking through the viewfinder other indications of distance on the lens you've also got to set the shutter speed and you gotta set the aperture which is the amount of light to do will listen to the camera depending on the if conditions around now you would normally use a light meter for this automatic camera does it automatically without you even doing anything about it on the lunar Hasselblad you have to do it all by hand you have to set the focus shutter speed and aperture rings but I haven't again you can see those from inside your space suit now has a better us than the only modification that Israeli Olivia's other little paddles that were attached to these three rings the focus shutter speed and aperture rings so that you could move the with what were in effect heavy duty gardening jobs which is what the spaces would look who what would you say the word a couple of modifications but nothing that really hated the the the Astros uses a camera we've got a great many restrictions on how the camera looks at how the camera works right and an important point to remember of course is this is a film camera digital camera it uses photographic film and.

"I keep I keep it wide for the most bar. So twenty four to seventy range, and, you know, trying to trying to pare down a little bit when I'm when I'm on the streets, and I can be a more stealthy with Murless. I love the particularly screen where I could just touch the area of the screen, it focuses and shoots. I like the silent mode, so I can be very quiet, although I have to kind of watch out for banding if I'm in heart official light, but beyond that, even the mechanical shutter when I'm coming from a DSL are is super quiet. So it's a big kind of switch for a long time for additional DSL guy to, to get into the mirror list. And you know, I I understand the Fujii's I, I know the allure of them, but now Nikon is is in that game. And I'm excited to to use that stuff. But in the in the in the Nikon Nikon world that you're in you're bouncing back and forth between the DSL are, and the mirror 'less camera. Isn't that look like cognitive dissonance here with the weight difference? Like, here's the big one, I think of that I've held one of those a couple of days ago. It just I remember it just feels like Thors hammer versus the light on. You know, I mean, from a tool perspective from my personal work. I'm happy to just use the mere less. And that's what I'm doing when I'm on the street doing personal stuff as a professional sometimes, you know, I need to be kind of secure about what I'm doing, and there's no substitute for that DA fifty sort of the, the way that it focused is, you know, the, the variety of different focus that you have that the mere list doesn't have, but as I mentioned in, and Wayne fruit to that, I detect, you know, now that it's got that I detect it's amazing. No, I'd never used that before. And now I could really concentrate on connecting with my subject and not have to worry about moving focus points because when it locks onto the is I mean, it's there, so I can. Really just concentrate because previous to that I wanted to be in single point. I wanted to make sure the eyes were sharp now. That's one less thing to worry about because it just really works. So, you know, I could move the composition the focus days where it needs to. And that is very liberating to me, and I just started using it, and I'm looking forward to really what it's going do. It's really cool. That the issue with my primary cameras Olympics Jeanine. And also, she with a g g h five and five s and those cameras have that near I detection, so you can say, yeah, I want you to maintain focus on the eye that nearest to the camera, but they also have this feature that I've never used you can even vouch for. But that is feature where it can do the eye detection, but can also register faces in the camera and prioritize exposure and focus based on who's in the frame. So have you say, you know, I'm shooting the bride and groom, and they're in the crowd, I want to always, you know, wait focus and exposure on these faces here. It will do that along with the I detection, and all that. I haven't tried it, but sounds kind of magical does it does the Nikon or the Fuji do that? And putting it out. Yes. Yes, features to put it in. Yeah. H is coming into the one hundred as well just to really get your backup. Trying to slide that in there just kind of, like, you know, mine does yours Here's does. the thing is, you know, for students. I'm not I'm not I'm not saying this is definite yet, but knowing knowing it will probably happen is no being of fund, but there is there is talk of, you know, future firmware upgrades with pixel shift mobile kind of camera does right now. You mean. Yeah, but, but one hundred megapixel say, yeah. You ended up, okay? See you gotta do that. That's just rude. Right. That out because the Hasselblad multi show for about forty five thousand dollars fine..

"Driven shooting. Toppling speed. You're going beyond you're going to have p mode and all that stuff. You're going beyond the typical. He's inc. Renovations are no, I'm I'm always always looking for a better mouse trap work with the the LPGA group right with these things that India, and I were both instrumental in developing the flash wizards, and as great as some of these cameras are the sync speed of two fifty doesn't you are you want more? So we always are trying to push the envelope a little bit. Yeah. To back in the day, we shooting with Hasselblad. So. We had that five hundreds of a second sing which was in Christ notice to notice. The good news bad news. My friend over here was the king. I mean, literally, his Hasselblad work was second to none we doing because you had one chance to push that button. There was no motive wine. You know? It was it was more. I would like to say it was more cerebral. You weren't like again, the newspaper use these these expressions spray and pray like, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. You're gonna get something the cameras beautiful the lenses are beautiful. But, but it was more was a little more cerebral and create like, yeah, it's like shooting a four by five by the time you load the film and do this. And it takes a little bit of mental prep to to do that. Well, we have this subject here. Can you think of any of any hustle block shots, legendary Ewing or is this pre Ewing or I mean? I said earlier I was a hold out I held onto that as long as long as I could. And they're beautiful and believe it or not the square of of the hassle blood lent itself to basketball to your think, it's more vertical. But it really the square which is absolutely beautiful beads of I would shoot under the basket with oftentimes eighty but most times a one twenty lens and you're following the ball focusing, and you just you just hit that here. The shutter click, and you just felt good. It was it was it was an exciting time to be a depth that you would get in that, you know, in that film was just insane. Yeah. Yeah. And actually, it's one of the questions ahead. Does does getting a great remote shot? Feel is good is getting a great shot out of a hand held camera. You know, what it it doesn't to me to be on us? Not simply because like you'd literally you never know. Kevin Durant was. In the garden the other night. He would he had a crazy dunk on the opposite end. I got the picture, but I didn't love it because he was like outstretched seven footer, but there was a knick random guys head over his shoulder that just didn't perfection. Very fussy. But but the satisfaction of of doing something hand, I is still like what the beauty of remote shot is that you know, so much preparation went into it. And you know to see all of that come to fruition in that one frame means that you did your job. And have you guys ever tried like an automatic releases where there's some some sort of movement that happens like, maybe from you through the backboard shots where we're a hand comes into frame and the camera releases is there anything not exactly. But like I said, we always are trying to push the envelope. What we both have noticed of late is the NBA has changed. There's a guy coming in and have a wide open layup or dunk, and he'll kick it to the corner for three point shot. The game itself has has jammed the true. That's very true. Yeah. You know? And you don't have you know, going way back to Russel Chamberlain or a Ewing Akeem shock, you don't have these centers in the key doing battle anymore. It's a much more perimeter game. True, cool. Okay. We're gonna take a short break and be back with net and Andrew stay tuned. We hope you're enjoying this edition of the H photography podcast. Send us a tweet at B H photo video Pash tag h photo podcast. Okay. We are back. John. You had a question. You wanna ask? Well, it's kind of wanted to follow up before not you were talking about the cameras that you carry with you or the ones you shoot hand held what are the lenses us? And I think honestly, most of those people will also have a computer of some kind of desktop computers, some kind and those people if they need to will start off loading work. You know, they'll go they go back and forth. Even what was his name. Austin man, the photographer who's singing the praises of the ipad? Has it definitely has a desktop computer at some point with light room in it that he's using they had him and his workflow at the event. And I think it was I forget it was a macbook pro and MAC pro and it Hasselblad camera, and yeah, he's I mean, this is a good article the new ipad pro photographers, he'd really talks about it. And then the thing he says, it's really interesting is is changed his artistic flow. And in fact, the stuff he edits on the ipad the photos. He added something I've had actually looked are done differently. Not better or worse but differently than I've keenly aware. My image is actually. We looked different than they would if I had it on my MAC, not better or worse. But different. He said the tools have a major impact on the process, and I find myself expressing myself differently than artists through pet pro. I think that that's really great. I think that that means it, you know, I think art does adjust to the tool you're using. And I bet you it's a more expressive and and workflow for him that it's as I watch videos. I it's clearly he's like he likes editing on the ipad pro with light room. And of course, has light room gets better too on on ipad. Pro I expect you could do more. But right now even Dobie saying, and when you do that it sinks back to your desktop. So we're the raw file lives, and you can have been the raw file in your continue your workflow there. It's not it's not the end point is the beginning point though. I bet. Is that that all I mean, I'm trying to find where this fits in in people's lives? I think that it keeps getting closer to. I mean, I think that you know, I I again, I'm not gonna get into my workflow again about about how I feel Alex road. It's it's such. It's this the power in this thing. This is an amazing. This is from the future. But it, but it's running software from the past. It's a portion Canada. It's it's got amazing. Like it's gonna get Canada. It's got amazing. You know, you love driving. Then winter comes and you got to go back to the four by four. Yeah. Sorry. It's cutting edge. Yeah. But doesn't do everything? That's the that's. For me. It's what's frustrated is just is just trying to figure out how to replace a lot of these programs are still trying to figure out how to replace the mouse. You know, they're just things that you just go. Well, I don't know how like I complain about you know, again, like some of the the I, you know, the the pages and keynote and all this other stuff you get into it. And it's just like this goofy thing that you have to do to get something done. You know, like, I use Omni graph a lot a lot. And I can't use it on the ipad. What I do is too complex for it. And I just and I, but I understand the complexity of what it takes to make Omni Graffeo to have that. I don't know how I would do that without being able to hold down a keyboard and use a mouse and everything else because it's such a complex set of connections. What city is alexan-? Now, you've moved. I've moved. I I've got the Tele Puerto working rate, you know, like when you guys were the commercial break I worked for the KOMO commercial break because it does take a couple of seconds. And it looks like a little bit of a glitch. Let me give you a commercial break. And then I wanna talk about a couple of issues that we've discovered one we discovered earlier today, and I o s today with the ipad pro and audio but I word from privacy. Ooh. I love privacy. I love it. I've been using privacy for some months. It is the only credit card. I use on the internet privacy dot com. I have a plug in that as that will give me a credit card number for anywhere..

And whereas I thought Neil is was was a better take Neil is take at the verge was was religious. Well, and just really interesting, you know, like he mentioned specifically. That. And I think it sticks out like a sore thumb that that okay? We've switched to USB. See, and you could take a USB see like thumb drive, and you can't put the. Yeah. You could stick it in the ipad like in the world. Wouldn't it come up and files? It's the single most obvious thing in the world. Right. I don't and I don't think that it should, you know, the the moment you plug it in that it should pop up automatically and put something in your face and takeover screen like if you had a copy of Trent almost like if you had a copy of transmit on your MAC, and it couldn't see files on the computer. Yeah. Well, no, I can't really have if I can't get to my stuff, you know, like, well, that's not really what it's for getting. It's forgetting to remote directories. And there is I thought like new is review kind of got to wear apple is trying to have it both ways. So adobe is stuff featured very heavily in their ipad pro demos during the event in their demos in the hands on area last week after the event and in some of the promotional stuff that they are talking about. But they you know, and rightly so that they, you know, this the the Photoshop for ipad looks amazing light room on the ipad is right now because the Photoshop at least is you could at least put an asterisk because it's coming in two thousand nineteen there's like the verge has access to the beta right now it works. It's definitely in close enough to shipping where it's it's it's usable. But it's clearly a beta but light room is a real thing for the ipad right now. And I mentioned they had these photos by Austin man, who was there at the event and at the hands on area, and he was he shot these photos. I forget where he was he travels these seriously like he and his wife are like a mini National Geographic who fifty megapixel images from this amazing looking hassle bed Hasselblad cameras. Jeez. Louise and light room just goes through. And he's sitting there, and he's you know, it's not like if I were doing it. And it's like, well, I'll just make it look black and white. I mean, this is a professional photographer with run rate. I and he's adjusting and his de hazing in the D hazing is actually if you looked at this in now, I have it like I it's magic it's like so there's something that requires like maybe AI but requires some inference about what constitutes as. Yeah. It is. I think it is a I I don't know. And then they'll be has this anti you know, adobe has figured it out. And it's amazing. So you have this image in it kind of looks. Will be but then you d Hayes it, and it's like, oh my God. I can't believe that's the same image while. But anyway, all of these things happen instantaneously, which makes it look like either these were tiny little thumbnail images, you know, just, you know, two thousand by two thousand pixels or something not fifty megapixel or that these results were pre rendered. And you're tapping these things, and you know, here's all these pre rendered results you can flip through. But no, it's all happening. Live on fifty megapixel raw images, it truly as a computer. It is truly a phenomenal device in terms of mega flops, whatever whatever you wanna say about incredibly fast, and it is doing things that you just have no expectation that it would be that fast. And again, it wasn't why apple said it up. I mentioned this on my show last week, but they had a fifteen inch macbook pro next door. And the reason they had it..

We're going to try using the scam with the apple USB connection kit and see how that works out for large transfers over wire that way. But these are some press of cameras. Four k. video mode up to thirty p ten eighty p frame rates at one hundred twenty p frame rate. There's some good stuff going on here are these. She at yesterday's. They're not as coming soon. Well, oughta Rama and h photo who I mentioned before are accepting preorder 's and what we think is going to happen is one of these released. I'm not sure when these exactly ship, but they've been. They've been announced is what happened as. Ship soon, but there's in the middle. I between the two federal September twenty seven. Patrick. No, you say trying to look at graphs this, it's weird talking about cameras, isn't it? You're gonna want to see what they look like a lot. So I was seeking peacful I and I've seen that there is a note next to one saying, gee, September the twenty seventh for I think is at seven. I imagine society possessive kind right, and that's that's. I'm glad he's coming out. These are going to be interesting. We're gonna go hands on with these. We'll find out more about them as soon as we can. That's exciting. Yes, it's funny. I'm so used to thinking photography equals iphone. Now you have films major, major motion, pictures, being sheltered them. He forgets about DSL, but every time recently I've been interviewed on TV and the cat, they've had a dance Alon them and shooting video through it. So it's nice to see these things. I need to be graft in forty, five, megapixel, whatever it was. That's what I need. That's what the world needs clearly I thoughts. thought, well, you're getting ready for your close up. I I need to be filmed in panorama aerial. I need to be filmed in glorious shots from above and let me explain DJ maker of Ron's has launched a maverick to produce phone and with a Hasselblad camera hassle. Blad is a legend among photography nerds. They do. They did large format for years. They had digital backs. You could keep your old lenses, keep your body's converting them to digital. You can do all kinds of things with the hassle. And if you've ever been in a proof talking for studio, they may have shot on a hassle. Blad and Hasselblad has done a couple of things over the past few years to keep themselves up to date. They made a a mod for the Moto Mods a couple years ago where you could put a hassle Blad back on your Motorola, Android phone, which was kind of fun. And here they've partnered with DJ makers of fine drones to go ahead and put a Hasselblad camera that's lightweight, but has a serious amount of Mexico's on it. On the drone for aerial shots. Now that that camera is a twenty megapixel camera and it has Hasselblad natural color solution built into it technology for high collar accuracy as well as for k. ten bid HDR's support for video and they have apertures in there from f two point, eight, all whipped f, eleven. So you get a wide spectrum of lighting conditions that you can film. It was really cool is that they can stitch photos together so that if you take nine shots than you get a single large forty eight megapixel image doesn't she met makes that similar to the disease seven, except now with a seven was has forty five point, seven megapixel. You take one shot from one position. If you're taking one of these together, then in in scape, it played, the joint will moved even fractionally sire. There's gonna be. A slight distortion in the angles things. I'm wondering whether how intelligent the stitching is to smooth that out. Do we have any idea about that. Not really certain, but I think that one of the cool things is that you can get a Dolly zoom, quick shot that you can reconstruct this, this affect a Dolly zoom. So the camera can move alliance, fantastic image stabilization, that's oh, okay. And both the the maverick to pro and the Mavericks to pros exam are able to capture four k..

"I wish I'm shooting in color, which is probably even a bigger change than the border, but you could always return back to black and white if need be. And when I started with a digital back, I, the first thing I tested was not what it looked like in color, but how what kind of black and white file and what is the digital back? I've used the leaf digital vaccine, the Hasselblad digital back then, and the other super important thing is my bronchiolar Strobe system because I can stop motion. I mean, I only need to stop at two thousands of a second. When I started, you know, basically you had a five hundred of a second. There was a top sync speed of the possible Atlanta's, correct? Yeah, yeah. Well, there's not the lenses, it's the duration of the Strother str-, correct? Yes, yes, duration. The effective exposure is not determined by the camera. It's your flash flash if you're working in a studio, almost. Talk to. We're gonna come to that. Omar. He had a few thoughts. So I started shooting with cannon when I was when I was starting in photography end. Then when I discovered mirror less, that really, really changed the way I shoot, especially because with the mirror system with with forty film systems specifically, which is what I chewed to. You can see the exposure right in the camera, and this cameras have become really, really smart and the fact that I can, for example, those moments where the light is hitting specific part of the city, I can really see it money related as to how I want exposure to be in camera. So it has definitely caught up on my time of editing, for example, afterwards because I can tweak everything in camera and see how it's going to be before I even get home and and and start digging through the through the shots I get. 'cause I routinely keep a thumb on the. Because, yeah, the correct the credit exposure is not always the best exposure is is what you want. The looks best and you know, with with, perhaps, you know, with with us, if simply for regular DSL are you have to keep going back and forth. And there's a lot of Chinping involved because you know, you have to shoot look and no, maybe getting Justice or that. Whereas in in with the Maryland system with forty films system, I can look through the viewfinder especially for example, with the XT one. The view finder is so big inciting like you can look, and then you can like pinpoint at everything that you want to with exposure and chain things. So going when I was doing street with our good, I really be able to make those that just been really fast because I on the fly and yeah, and then that was that's exactly what I do still in with with when I'm shooting. Leakers give a lens of choice. I shoot mostly with two issue. Ninety millimeter. To which is to one thirty, five hundred fifty six f one to.
