"Maybe shell? Yeah, they're shaping up mildly. We had some data in the U.S. kind of fueling the hope for a soft landing and that allowed yields across the curve to rise a bit. We had strength in the equity market. We've got a ten year treasury now at three 50 a two year at four 18. By the way, the S&P reached its highest level since early December with the gain today of something greater than 1%. I'll let you guys talk about the Intel news that came after the bell. We also heard after the bell from KLA corp shares traded lower after the semiconductor capital equipment company gave a third quarter revenue forecast at the, well, it was actually below the midpoint of expectations and those shares were down more than 5%. We also heard from Hasbro with preliminary adjusted EPS below the average estimate the toy makers also going to cut about 15% of its global workforce that stock was hard hit. Something to the tune of about negative 7% in the U.S. session. So right now, in Tokyo, the market is essentially flat, inflation in Tokyo continued to outpace expectations, rising above 4% in January, the yen stronger here at one 29 70, different story in Seoul where the Cosby is rising four tenths of 1%, and the market in Australia back online after a holiday yesterday. The ASX 200 is a head three tenths of 1%. We'll take another look at markets in 15 minutes, Brian. Doug, thanks very much. Let's get to Intel, it delivered a rather dire forecast for the current quarter. Let's get that story from Bloomberg's Charlie pellet. Intel was hurt by sinking demand from PC customers and tough competition in the lucrative market for server hardware. The chip maker said first quarter sales will be ten and a half to 11 and a half $1 billion. That compares with an average analyst estimate of $14 billion. The outlook reflects the myriad challenges facing Intel, which was attempting to stage a comeback, even before the market for PC chips its main source of revenue fell into a slump. In New York, Charlie pellet, Bloomberg, daybreak, Asia. Stock traded down about 10% or so, Michelle. Oh, sorry. Thank you, Charlie, and thank you, Brian. We hear China is considering an export ban that would help the nation maintain its substantial dominance in solar manufacturing. The ban is being considered for technology used to make solar wafers, wafers are ultra thin silicon squares that are pieced together into solar panels. China accounts for 97% of global output. We're told the companies are ready with a detailed response to accusations from U.S. based short seller, Hindenburg research. It said that firms owned by adani engaged in brazen market manipulation and accounting fraud. The adani group said the assertions were devoid of facts. Here's Bloomberg's PR Sanjay. Came on to television, he sat sent out a statement and he had come on a video and circulated the video widely to say that this is all malicious and mollified internships, et cetera. Adani group legal head also said the same thing. And they are also setting up various calls with investors as to why the fears. We're told the adani group will reply to some of the issues from the Hindenburg report in an 18 page presentation titled myths of short seller. Adani said it would publish a more detailed reply to Hindenburg's 100 page dossier later on Friday. "Subcompact SUV, there are many options on the market. In fact, you don't even have to buy an SUV. There are hatchbacks that offer the same utility and more sportiness. Recently drove the Toyota Corolla hatch. One of these mini SUVs that we're starting to see around, it's about the same size, but you don't have to go quite as high up in there. It's easier to get in and out of, unless you're talking about the back doors, but other than that, it's very convenient, and it handles a lot better than a taller riding SUV crossover sport youth that we might see on today's market. He says those back doors don't open too wide and the rear seat can get cramped. The corolla hatch starts at around $24,000. Other options include the more upscale, but pricier, Mazda three, and they all wheel drive Subaru and present. You can read more about the corolla and see photos at WTO dot com. Money news at 25 and 55. Let's go to Jeff clay ball. We that is down 11 points. The S&P 500 Index is up a point, and NASDAQ is up 40. That's a half percent gain for the NASDAQ. "Like it just, I felt like I knew what aliens was going to be the moment it booted up and was like, we're sending a marine team in. I'm like, they're dead. And then the tension comes, I think, less from the marines for me. There does to some extent, but mostly it comes from Newton, the relationship between Newton Ripley and how that's going to bear out and whatnot. It was the world's longest escort movie. She's escorting newt entire time. By the way, I loved aliens. I just didn't find I found it like hellraiser two. I think that was what Steve and I were talking about are hellraiser one was horror. And I think twos in the SLS island. I could be wrong. But it's like the cenobites turn good almost, and they try to, they join up for a moment, or aliens versus predator one, where at the end, you have a moment where the hero is running next to the predator. And I know a lot of people love that movie, but it was like a hero moment where they're running together. And I was like, what the? This is so cheesy. It's so like a comic book, but again, I think I'm in the minority, because I think a lot of people like that movie. Let's see, moving on from there. Hasbro wizards of the coast canceled 5 game projects. So all their D&D games are canceled, which I'm wondering what that means. Hopefully not. Is falter skate three? Tied to the wizards of this Hasbro only. It's there. Yeah, so any of the outside ones aren't canceled. It's there like internal development teams.

"18 a barrel that's down about 1%. And we check the markets for you. Well, let's give you the S&P 500 down 5 points right now down a tenth of a percent. The Dow, 66 points lower. NASDAQ 116 points higher of a tenth of a percent. We do check the markets for you all day long right here on Bloomberg radio on John Tucker and that's your Bloomberg business flash mountain poll. All right, JT, thank you so much, good stuff there. We appreciate that. A lot of stuff going on in the markets. A lot of crosscurrents, tons of earnings being released. So many good single stock stories. There isn't. Let's do it. We can do that good stuff with Bloomberg's equities reporter chess menton and cross asset reporter Katie, they join us here for a little round table action to talk about these markets here. Just let's start with you. AXP. American Express. I mean, it's been around forever. I mean, everybody knows this company. Why is this stock up 10%? It is up 10% this morning. It's surging the most that it has in about two years. So the company did beat on profit in revenue forecast. So that's really important because as we know when we're looking through earnings season, a lot of these numbers can be more backward looking, so investors are really honing in when it comes to what these outlooks look like. So AmEx did predict that revenue and earnings for this year will surge well above what analysts were expecting. If you look at other corners when it comes to credit card issuers also Visa, that stock is up this morning as well. It did beat expectations and that is prompting analysts to raise their targets on the stock and hope that it will be able to weather a weaker economic environment, especially when we're thinking about travel demand rebounding and some of those forks. I mean, they're beating because they're being because of a weaker economic environment. A lot of people would argue, the reason they're beating is that consumers are putting more of their spending on plastic. I guess with AmEx isn't the deal with AmEx you usually pay the bill every month, so it's not the same as a Visa or Mastercard. Right. But yeah, I think this is a fascinating story because it gets into the macro as well. And I wanted to avoid macro completely, but I just ruined it for myself. It is interesting to compare and contrast what we got with Mastercard because the story coming out of Mastercard earnings was very much the card spending was slowing. And that dragged the stock down lower yesterday. And it's down today too, even when you have AmEx and Visa riding, so it feels like Mastercard is the odd one out. And then a Capital One as well. We heard from earlier this week where we saw some when it came to spending patterns, a little bit of pull back there. I loved it, just report on. Goldman cuts CEO David Solomon's pay about 30% to 25 million poor guy. God. Some change. Well, I mean, the bonus of pool is going to be lower for Wall Street, so let's feel the pain across the board. You're going to pay your bankers less. You traders, depending upon the desk, they could be up or down but the bankers are definitely going to be down double digits. So and it's better than getting fired. I always think like the day that my boss comes to me and says, dude, tap, that was uncalled for. You're out of here. I'm going to say, I'm going to say that hasn't happened. Could you just cut my pay 30% and let me stay? You know, if I were a banker right now, I'd go to work at a hedge fund. I don't know how fungible those skills are right now, but you think of the banks in the hurt locker kind of. All these hedge funds are just killing it. I go to private equity. If I were 35 years old, that's where I'd go. You know if I could be anything, I'd be a veterinarian, so. If we're just by the way, you can be anything. Notice Paul just said, if I were 35 years old, and you're not even 30 yet. Well, the problem is, I can't do math. I can't do science. You just have to pet horses. You're good? Large animal medicine is actually super dangerous. I know you guys can get kicked in that. Oh yeah. All right, Hasbro. Speaking of no. No, speaking of I'm just gonna do the animal speaking of animals. We have a very angry Pitbull in my condo complex. His name is Harry. He is a very bad attitude. I thought let's talk about Chewy. But Harry, there's Chewy boxes every day for Harry. That I bring up from time to time. And it hasn't improved at all. It has not improved. Is that it? He's still very angry at me, but they had a good quarter, right? They've been upgraded by the street. I will say that we used to use Chewy for my cat and it was just overwhelming. You know, it was Chewy for Gus. Of course. For a cat. I don't know. It was my husband's idea. It was overwhelming. My cat could not eat that fast, but Chewy. You're right it to get an upgrade today. That was from Wedbush. They see that the customer growth view, the margin view margins definitely a theme this quarter. It's all very positive for chewie, at least in Wedbush's view. She has her up about 5% right now. If you look over the past year, actually two is up 8%. So there are performing people love their pets. All right, so if we're doing segways. Okay, good. Then I'll do from dog toys. People play doh. Yeah, exactly. Hasbro, which makes, what do they make? Play doh is one thing they make. I know for sure, oh, nerf footballs, and the kids probably like nerf for other stuff. Because parents now buy kids guns all the time. So nerf guns. And then Dungeons and Dragons. Is that still a thing? It's definitely still a thing. That's embarrassing of your kids playing Dungeons and Dragons, right? You weren't a D&D guy? I think for I was in fourth grade, I wanted that I remember for my birthday I so wanted a Dungeons and Dragons. I didn't really know what it was, but some kind of setup and I wanted the Def Leppard pyromania record Oh, who didn't back there? Very cool, you know? And one of them made a difference in my life. The other one didn't. Thank God. So what do we have for Hasbro? So looking at that stock ticker symbol HAS, it's down about 6%. It's mildly lower for the year, but it did drop 40% last year. So the company did say it would eliminate around 1000 employee positions and it did warn of weak holiday quarter results. So this is going to come ahead of once we get their earnings in a couple of weeks. And so to put that in context when we're talking about 1000 employees, it's about 15% of its global workforce and basically it's just trying to save between 250 million 300 million annual by the end of 2025. If you look at some of its competitors say Mattel ticker symbol MAT it's down more than 1%, but that sucks still up about 13% this year and it did fall about 17% last year, but Jeffries did say that the quarter is just a painful period for Hasbro and it thinks that the firm is still in a bit of a transformation right now. So it remains to be seen as far as the trajectory there. Hasbro owns magic the gathering. That's another thing. It's like another nerd. Very cool to be involved with. Now Mattel has Barbie and hot wheels. Mattel is like the alpha, right? I mean, Mattel's like the cool kid. And I think they also have the Disney stuff too. I can't remember one of them has Disney. I don't know which one. Mattel has GI Joe as well. Oh, cool. Oh, Hasbro has GI Joe. So they both have, I guess, some fairly quick. But nobody has anything nerdier than Hasbro because magic the gathering has to. All right, speaking of nerds, Intel. I mean, I mean, this company went public in 1971. I think they were California, the heart of Silicon Valley. They are Silicon Valley. They are, man, they're having a tough time. And in the first of the big computer chip makers to report in that really spread as far as the pressure that we are seeing with that stock this morning, ticker symbol I and TC, you're seeing that spread over to other stocks you're looking at AMD Nvidia Micron Technology, but we've seen a lot of swings more broadly when we're looking at the Philadelphia semiconductor index to SO X. I mean, that stock was down more than 35% last year. It was

"This is the indicator from planet money. I'm Adrienne ma. And I'm waylon Wong. Adrian, I wanted to propose a new season for us to celebrate here on the indicator, proxy season. The time of year when publicly treated companies hold their annual stockholder meetings. Yeah, just imagine corporate executives running on stage with hordes of shareholders screaming at them. Well, they don't usually get that rowdy. But stockholders do get to make some noise during proxy season. Because typically at these annual meetings, there's different proposals that investors get to vote on, and some of the proposals come from the company like please approve or nominees for the board of directors. But investors can also submit proposals. For example, they can nominate their own candidates for the board. And when companies and shareholders don't see eye to eye, that's when you get a proxy battle. Today on the show, we go inside one of those proxy battles, unfolding at a company you've probably heard of. Hasbro. We learn about the players and their strategies, and what's on the line as they face off over the future of the company. This message comes from NPR sponsor Capital One. Find out how at Virginia 5 two 9 dot com. Is almost a hundred years old. It's the maker of mister potato head. My little pony and monopoly. It also has a division called wizards of the coast, which publishes magic the gathering, a competitive trading card game, and Dungeons and Dragons, a fantasy role playing game. And waylon, I understand you sort of dabble in D&D yourself. Dabble, you're talking to a level 5 druid here. Oh, shoot. I am a powerful spellcaster with the ability to change into wild animals and I play the bassoon. That is amazing. What I love about it is that there are basic rules for character building and magic spells and monsters, but then players by rolling dice and using their imaginations get to act down in adventure together and go exploring. You can fight monsters. You can hunt for treasure or go on a quest. And with that, waylon Wong, why don't we set up this Hasbro proxy battle D&D style? Okay, so imagine a kingdom with our publicly traded company castle Hasbro, at its center. The castle holds a closely guarded secret, something Hasbro has never revealed publicly. And that is how much money their wizards of the coast of vision actually makes. See, Hasbro acquired wizards of the coast in the late 90s. But for a couple decades, it didn't release financial details about that part of the company. Then, last year, the company revealed wizards of the coast was the most profitable part of the company. Magic the gathering and D&D, they had record sales in 2020, bringing in over $800 million. It was just, oh my God, this is how much money they're making compared to everything else. Scott Thorne owns a store in Carbondale Illinois called castle perilous games and books. He sells magic the gathering in Dungeons and Dragons products, and he's also a Hasbro stockholder. He has 43 shares, in fact, that he bought several years ago. I was always under the impression that you're making all your money on action figures and board games and wizards of the coast is this tiny little division over there and it's not. And that just kind of blew my mind. Wizards of the coast profitability wasn't just mind-blowing for invested retailers like Scott, it also made waves among professional investors, like Connor Haley. He's been playing magic the gathering since he was a kid, and now he's the managing partner of an investment firm called Alta Fox capital. It was this pivotal moment that I think was underappreciated by the market because, you know, if you don't play magic the gathering or Dungeons and Dragons, it can be easy to fail to appreciate just how special these assets are. And in Conor's view, with the success of wizards of the coast, has restocked should be doing a lot better. In the last few years, Hasbro's stock has fallen, whereas the broader stock market has gone up. Connor felt like, if Hasbro put more money into wizards of the coast instead of its other divisions, the share price could really take off. And so Connor set off on a kind of quest. His investment firm Ulta Fox started buying shares and Hasbro, eventually amassing a two and a half percent stake in the company. When you buy a stock, you're not buying a piece of paper, you're buying ownership in a business, right? You are a true owner of that business. And as one of those true owners, Connor had some ideas he wanted to share with Hasbro. Like, maybe Hasbro should spin off wizards of the coast into an independent company. And maybe some of the people running the company, the board of directors, some of them should be replaced. So in fall of 2021, Alta Fox contacted Hasbro's investor relations department. Eventually, Connor got further into castle Hasbro. He got to talk to the CFO and the CEO. But in early 2022, things started to stall. There were emails exchanged and slideshows and virtual meetings and requests for information, but no agreement. Hasbro declined to comment for this story, but pointed to a website where it's posted information about the proxy battle. The company calls Connor's campaign a distraction and says the Alta Fox board nominees don't have the right expertise. Connor disagrees. They were trying to check a box to say, hey, we spoke with this investor and we listened to his concerns. When in reality, they have not addressed most of our concerns in any substantive way. And that's why we're headed to a proxy vote in June. On June 8th, when Hasbro holds its annual meeting, it will be putting up 13 nominees for the board of directors. Alta Fox has been shifting its strategy. Earlier, it had been campaigning for three board candidates of its own, as of this taping, Tuesday afternoon, it's down to one. And here's how the proxy vote goes down. First of all, it's called proxy vote because the shareholders don't actually have to be physically present at a meeting to vote. They can actually do it online or by mail. And then another thing to note here is that a lot of folks who own stocks through a retirement plan or a mutual fund company in those cases, it's the managers of those funds who typically vote on behalf of their clients. But Scott Thorne, the gaming store owner who owns Hasbro stock, he cast his own vote as an individual shareholder, and he went with Hasbro's nominees for the board. He was not convinced that Alta Fox would do a better job than the current leadership. Hasbro, from my point of view, I can't argue with how much I have sold of magic and D&D over the past decade. Or the past 20 years. Scott's been running a store for three decades, and the games that wizards the coast makes keep attracting new devotees. There are people like Connie Chung, who got to D&D as a high school student. I think dream hunter flies out of the emperor's sheath. It was strapped to your mother father's waist. That is Connie leading a round of D&D. They are a professional gay master, which means they actually get paid to be the sort of storyteller narrator, master of ceremonies all in one. Flies through the air, this beautiful silver blade and we see each of the runes on the blade, like light up 8 and flights. People like Connie have big stakes and Hasbro, even if they're not literal stockholders. It's the creators, the players us that make this game make this hobby worth investing in, right? We write ourselves into.

FBI Raid on James O'Keefe's Home Sparks Many Questions
"Project veritas is probably the greatest thorn in the side of the American ruling class. To give an idea James O'Keefe has successfully exposed the VAERS database, Health and Human Services, Pfizer, the vaccination of children, critical race theory, woke ism in the military, Hasbro, which is making toys for children and how that they are implementing critical race theory within the manufacturing of toys for children. James O'Keefe has fought every major fight imaginable. And yet he's he's upset some people along the way. James O'Keeffe has made the biggest enemies you could possibly make, including Joe Biden. James O'Keeffe seems to be hitting home run after home run, and we have him on our show to celebrate those victories because many people in the activist press and even many people in the establishment right. They aren't so keen to actually celebrating the great work of project veritas, a legitimate journalist organization. And so therefore, because of all the enemies that James has made, he has been targeted and listed for destruction. And make no mistake, this is the way it works. Joe Biden and the regime, they have had James O'Keefe's name on a piece of paper and circled for quite some time. They want him gone. They want him done. And now, so thankfully James O'Keefe is rather smart and he's careful he is not reckless. He knows the fights that he's been picking. He knows the people he's been exposing. And so James O'Keefe came across and was exposed to this diary of Ashley Biden, which we were told was fake at the time, which obviously it isn't. It's not fake. It's probably very real, real enough that you're trying to mobilize the entire apparatus of the United States government to try to of the law enforcement government to try to prevent either publication or the dissemination of such product.

"Where do you look at has Rowan Mattel? Yeah, that's an interesting question to think about. I've always been a Hasbro guy. I've always felt like Hasbro was the better the better run company. I think seals some far more lucrative partnerships and relationships that Mattel wasn't able to get a hold of. You pay a lot of money up front maybe to get that stuff, but it plays out over time as very beneficial. And so I feel like Hasbro is still going to be the company to beat. I mean, Mattel has really come from a dark place. They went through some very challenging times and it's nice to see that business doing better. But to me, the big wild card for Hasbro right now, it's obviously it's unfortunate we saw CEO Brian golden recently passed away. And he was, I think a real key to the business is success through the years. You just ran the company very well. It's going to be crucial that they get someone in that CEO spot who really is going to be able to embrace this vision of digital and entertainment going forward to be able to realize the most out of this business. It feels like they're head in the right direction. So maybe that's something to pay attention to really is if new leadership just gets in there and just kind of blows everything up. That could be concerning because it feels like Hasbro's set up to succeed. I'd give the leg up to Hasbro there, but certainly nice to see Mattel still fighting. Halloween candy. We're just a few days away. I've resisted the urge. Several times over the past week, when I've had the opportunity to buy Halloween candy, I've resisted the urge, but at some point, I'm just going to I don't know, go to giant or CVS and I, with a fistful of money and just throw it down and say, take it..

UPS shipped fewer items in the third quarter compared to a year ago, but revenue was up 9% and shares of UPS are rising today and hitting a new all time high. I don't want to read too much into this so you tell me, are there any takeaways for the holiday season? Because global supply chain is a huge theme this year, this earnings season do you get any clues from UPS about how they're feeling about handling capacity over the next few months? Yeah, it feels like the head of the headline on The Wall Street Journal. I think said it all. It said UPS revenue rises as it ships fewer packages. That's the dream. That's the kind of headline you want to see. We're doing less work and we're making more money. That is that speaks to the strategy, though, that they consciously pivoted to. They are focusing on not necessarily volume, but working more with their most valuable customers. And they see certainly the return to in person shopping has impacted volume probably we'll see an impact in regard to the holiday season as well just through the supply chain issues. But it feels like they are less and less dependent on that, which is obviously a very good thing. The business itself really a very impressive. I mean, revenue grew 9.2% from last year operating profit on an adjusted basis was up 23.4%. There are actually realizing some pretty strong pricing power. So they're re upping with their most valuable clients and they're realizing strong pricing with those clients. So it seems like the strategy is working out very well. The domestic business very strong 12% increase in revenue per piece international revenue was up 15 and a half percent. The logistics business doing very well. And so all things put together, you can see why over the last 5 years, the stock is up 135%. For a sleeper like UPS that a lot of people probably view is just your stay boring business. It's been a tremendous investment and it really kind of feels like they're poised to keep that performance up. In defense of people who look at UPS and think it's a stayed boring business the trucks and the uniforms don't help in that regard. I'm not knocking them. You know, you could look at that and say, hey, they're not spending frivolous dollars trying to make their trucks look jazzy and sprucing up their uniforms every year with some new design. They're just like, now brown's good for us. It's phenomenal brand equity. It's just so identifiable and you always recognize it immediately. It's really powerful. Hasbro's third quarter profits and revenue came in higher than expected. The company also warned that supply chain issues would hit holiday sales, but shares of Hasbro still up 3% so far today. Yeah, I think this is a far more interesting report, not really because of what they delivered for the core, but what they see coming this quarter and the next several quarters to come..

"It's Tuesday October 26th. Welcome to market foolery. I'm Chris hill with me today. Back in the saddle. It's Jason Moser. Good to see you. Good to see you. Good to see you. We've got an eye on the holidays with two companies that are reporting today, but we're going to start with actual results from the social network. Facebook's third quarter profits came in higher than expected, but revenue was a little light and revenue guidance for the fourth quarter was lower than Wall Street was hoping for. Shares of Facebook down nearly 4% today. Yeah, a little bit of a one two punch there I'd say on the results. They were mixed, but then I think also the guidance going forward, but clearly there are going to be some headwinds that Facebook and other ad based models are going to have to deal with. But I think it's so fascinating to me the tug of war between the media narrative, the public perception of this business and then how the market views it. It's a really good lesson I think for investors to keep in mind because you look at the company and its leadership, they just continue raked over the coals. And I think that's right. They're good reasons for that happening. But for the most part, I mean, you look at the 5 year chart for Facebook shares. This has been a strong investment over the last several years. It's hard to imagine that 5 years from now, investors aren't making money from today's share price. Now obviously there are things that could happen. But I think it really does, it goes to the size of the network that Facebook has built out today. Being so important very, very difficult to disrupt and when you say size, we're talking about daily users at 1.93 billion up 6% monthly actives, 2.91 billion up 6%, the performance. This company is still growing revenue at pretty rapid clips. Revenue was up 34% for the quarter, excluding currency effects. And so all things considered, I mean, I think it was a respectable quarter. I think they painted a fair picture of some challenging challenging times ahead and that's probably what has the market sort of on the fence today, maybe. Yeah, but to your point, you hear the comments from the actual customers of Facebook, the businesses, small and large, who use that platform to market their products and services. And they're the ones who are making this engine go. And they're satisfied with the results that they are getting. Yeah, if that goes to the size of the platform, the size of these networks, it's just instant reach. Regardless how you feel about leadership or just the general privacy issues of what not. Facebook and Zuckerberg, they have built something really meaningful, very powerful in I don't see that changing. Now it could be modified..

And i actually some groceries oh okay holy mackerel them okay on air or fare collection of things that are as their representative the heterogeneity of ideas that you've given me a gift. I've got a booster shot. One of these today okay. This is good stuff. Okay wow this card magic the gathering okay. So you still haven't played begging played the gathering. I'm waiting for my kids to get into it. We've been playing some pokemon which is kind of similar. I think right has some similarities which has been which has been fun. But i really wanna get into magic the gathering really bad and i've just been like i've been just weeding. Think my kids might need to be like one year older before. Were ready to really really dive in. Can you be brief history of magic the gathering. Yeah okay magic the gathering. If i have this right started in one thousand nine hundred three by richard garfield. Richard garfield is an expert in computational complexity theory. So he's essentially a guy who has studied what makes situations complex and that's why he was able to make the best game in history. You think magic is the best game industry. It's not even a calm conversation. All right supercomputer. Okay oh super super. That's the game. Starting oh okay. All right got okay. The product probably will be at the time. This airs awesome. That's the best game you've ever played. Maybe not initially but eventually okay so started in one thousand. Nine hundred eighty by richard garfield. He's a computer science genius. They play tested the game in cardboard they drew out the cards on cardboard so that they could test it. Yeah once they knew they had a good game they got it printed. The company was called wizards of the coast. To coast makes magic the gathering in one thousand nine hundred nine wishes. The coast was acquired by hasbro. Hasbro's knows a toy company. Toll companies are great toy companies. Don't make software so there was a chasm that every games company had to cross into digital and wizard. The coast fell down the chasm because they're owned by hasbro got so a great card game but they weren't able to make a digital game so they made a digital game. It's actually pretty good. It's called magic online digital objects. Apparently the story is. And i think it was originally made in two thousand in two. And i think that it was originally made by this company called leaping lizard which was a contractor that apparently they somehow entered into a conversation with wizard the co slash hasbro essentially dared by which is the coast that they could they said. Okay look if you can actually make this into. Because it's a very complicated game with a lot of rules. And was the coast essentially asserted that this was not possible to do software leaping lizard prove them wrong except it was like leaping lizard random software company. So they've made it work but it's not great software and then that became magic online digital objects. That's like the lineage of that game so they've got a whole lot of technical debt. It's still only on windows. It's not on apple and this is why can't someone just by the magic together from hasbro like some smart guba people and then like create like a big thing because it's a crown jewel in a publicly owned company. Okay it's very prophets crown jewel. It's a crown jewel. And i mean so magic. Online digital objects is a great game. It's like actually become a very very good game. But it's a monolithic dot net application. That only runs on windows and so the solution to this. Apparently according to wizards of the coast slash hasbro to make a brand new digital game experience called magic the gathering arena the secondary economy first of all the secondary economy and magic. A super important. You open up these booster packs. It's like random lottery tickets. It's like legal gambling basically. There's another problem with. The game is essentially. It's legal gambling for children so it's casinos for children. That's what magic the gathering. Yes she has a problem. I see that as a feature could go very deep..

What's the takeaway for our buddies over at hasbro. Hollywood entertainment is the catalyst that unlocks the next level of value for hasbro stocks knackers. That's not our quote. That's a direct quote from the ceo of toy company. Hasbro hit didn't mention the stock but the rest of it is a direct kouassi media. It turns toy sales box office hits which then sells more of the original toys and entertainment. One has done two hundred movie and tv productions a lot. not all of them are based on hasbro. Hasbro is kicking it up an arch. The toy manufacturer listen to this so originally. When i saw that i had a meeting focused around. Crt i just thought that. I should have the foresight to record it just in case but once i once you get like five minutes into the meeting and they start saying that your your three month old or six month older. But i've seen pictures of other countries where people have purchased used cars once the batteries die. How you supposed to afford to replace that battery in. Isn't that an awful lot of pollution to the environment. Exactly those batteries. Not only that. I've got a buddy of mine. Who has a a brand of electric vehicle. And he says when it's cold that he goes to the office His car dies The batteries don't work in the cold He lives up north and had to actually swap it out for a fossil fuel burning vehicle because he was so tired of dealing with the batteries. You're right Once the battery goes it's like a laptop with the battery goes to the laptop. You've either got to get any laptop or you've got a tear it apart. Put a new battery which is expensive same with vehicle batteries in the tesla you know is as been in the past fairly dettori that if the battery completely goes out to zero. Critical Race Theory Training Exposed at Children’s Toy Manufacturer
"David welcome to the charlie kirk show. You are one of the whistle blowers here for project veritas and you work for a toy design and manufacturing company. Is that a good way to describe it. Yeah i work for hasbro right now has borough and you. At our event uncovered that there's critical race theory training or something around. That floor is yours. Tell us about it. sure so I decided to come to project veritas. Because i was asked to go. Well i was kind of told to go to critical race. Theory training at hasbro. At first i didn't think it was going to be anything too incriminating. But i just decided to record it just because i've been watching critical race. Theory and intersection analogy just kind of spreading through our country and our institutions for years. Now so i'm like our record it and then it actually started and then my jaw hit the floor so i was like i need to send this to people. They need to know what's happening. Okay so what is your role with hasbro I'm packaging engineer. packaging engineer. What was involved in the training. The training Is the video showing like children at different developmental stages and then stating at what developmental stage. How much racial bias. they're exhibiting. So how young did they get. They say three year old even for five year olds. I think the earliest was six months six months so in this is this training. Mandatory at has borough is mandatory for me. I don't know how many times they've done it before this. I would say this was at least the second trainer so just understanding is one of the largest toy. Manufacturers in the world is making their employees. Learn the toys. They're making might be made for a bunch of little racists or something yes. They want to use toys to kind of teach children about racial bias. To guess maybe kind of correct what they see as some kind of wrong. But it's just going to make more children Discriminate based on race.

But we've got that many more great questions we're going to dive right in and we're going to try to move a little a little quickly so we can make sure to get all the questions in all righty matt and luke from star wars sessions that goes down on the stream last week by the way here from fallen on your bring it out the scout troop and the electro staff push trooper in the vintage collection. Game and grace is easier to scope a model based on a character from the games. Because you already have that. Three d graphics orenda valuable office necessarily easier. But it's it's a little bit different The games and animation characters especially the animation characters. Because they're so stylized there a bit more freedom in terms of how we execute those just because we do the real realistic interpretation of them for the gaming stuff. It does help a lot at one hundred percent guarantee that there is a three d. model when it comes to the live action so a lot of times we actually do get three d scans. But it's not guaranteed every time whereas with the gaming stuff it is guaranteed. We are going to like. There is a three d asset of every single model. So that definitely helps there. Yeah and it's just a little bit different to just because yeah we especially with those like animation characters in this three d. assets. We kind of do the realistic interpretation on but yeah characters. It does help in a lot of ways anytime we can get the three. The assets awesome all right matt and luke. I- patrick is nice to see you again. We lost serie shelter in london. We never did have that bay together. Maybe maybe another time Hopefully hopefully convention future. We'd love to see you back my we'd love to see back with d new publishing line underway gina. If there's any plans to dive into this with new books and comics such as the high republic. Yeah so there's certainly is a possibility on where we are really excited to kind of show. Those new publishing characters were really happy with especially like the the whole packaging execution on them. We think they look really really cool. There is such a deep stree- be in the entire publishing line going all the way back to the like the eighties on. There's just a ton of stuff and obviously as we now see more and more south come into the hired. Public is something that we would like to look into It's they're really cool. Designs we kind of want to see like what characters come to the forefront who cares coal what white are feasible and stuff like that in terms of execution on the is certainly possible that we could look into higher public characters but yet nothing at the moment to announce her plan or anything. Okay fair enough. Thank you matt from star wars sessions talking about the vintage collection fan vo. We've go a soaker republic trooper in a period of soup tech driver stockier and a weekly from the How how did we decide on those for the fan vote absolutely. I think it was a combination. We certainly wanted a variety star wars as a rich universe. Obviously and so we wanted a variety of different kind of entertainment and media representatives. Obviously you know as you mentioned. We've got some video game figures in there we've got classic trilogy. We have animation and so we we really wanted to represent that they didn't want five choices all from the same movie for example and then certainly their characters that our internal team thought Kind of you know. We're we're worthy of bringing back. And then obviously also monitoring as we always do online chatter forums. You know were aware of different Brackets happening in different kind of online boats and we certainly take all of those into account and so is a combination of those two things that produce this list list goes. Thank you look up next. We know this one is really popular with our podcast community and many people. Beyond are there. Any plans to release a ben solo figue so while i can't speak to any of future plans unannounced unreleased stuff that we are always looking for suggestions on characters to do especially now that we have this kind of new collection in black series of four point zero with Like the collection kind of plan for that with the different entertainments so it is something it that we would like to be able to build out each entertainment to be on. Make sure that you have a good neural with those. But yet the moment for ben solo there we we don't have anything to announce right now. It's something that we have heard multiple times from a lot of different people so it's something we're actively aware of you have that paolo guys very much all right that i think you're looking at the figures coming out. We've got a lot from the ot and a few mando. Andy phoolan older ones obviously set in and around two between the new hope. Are we looking at producing anymore. Secrity figures or indeed prequel trinity figures so kind to the point earlier now that we have a new collection focuses on the entertainment specifically. It's something that we do want to look at to just bury the line. Where in a great spot right now and then sense it. We have so much entertainment to go after that that we kind of had to prioritize which which caters specifically we look at obviously the mandalorian huge right now and we have a lot of kind of coming up but we definitely like to sprinkle in se- sequel trilogy prequel trilogy like all those kinds of things throughout we don't have any official announcements right now but I guess just keep an eye out a future livestreams in We'll we'll have some other announcements coming all right awesome. Well i think that's it. We got through six different sites. Seven people on the call five rounds which is great. I just a quick thank you. We gotta try next one. But thank you guys always. Obviously this is just really fun for us to spend the morning talking shop with you guys on. Obviously i know kind of people are gathered here from around the world north america. You're we really appreciate that kind of knowing. These might be some funky time zone. So thank you guys We look forward to doing it again sometime soon. It's a lot of fun the thank you..

Managers found hard to get excited too worried about the ready crew. Gresley bidding up the canvas stocks. But make no mistake. Mattel's doing great. Ceo on crisis orchestrated effort. -nificant turnaround here. And let's have got yet another confidence-inspiring aspiring quarter. The country poorer top and bottom line with bush guide for twenty twenty one in response suck actually spiked. Three percent in early trading. Getting dragged down by the on weeds. What i'm calling the rest of the market. So could this really have room to run. Let's take a closer look with you on crises. The turnaround orders chairman. Ceo patel real. These results michigan. Welcome back demand money. Jim it's great to be here in on your manager word when things weren't doing waste things weren't doing well when things that down very low you said things are starting to get better. This was the finest fourth quarter in fifteen years despite a worldwide pandemic. Talmadge do it. Yes jim this was an exceptional quarter for mattel without best performance in years with strong consumer demand and another milestone near for the company for the second quarter in a row which have double digit sales growth without grace. The industry in gain share on a global basis but are results excited expectation on many levels with the highest fourth quarter growth in fifteen years as you said with a significant increase in profitability with a full year operating income. That was two and a half times higher than than last year. But this is not just about the quarter or the year. It's about a multi year strategy that is tracking very well which puts us on in a strong position to continue to increase profitability and etc growth. In two thousand twenty one and beyond what i liked about it but these were all fantastic numbers but you told me one day jim this company which has terrible cash flow can make fortunes on everything that it does put out so when barbie has a plus eighteen percent quarter number one toy property globally in twenty twenty doll- but boy you're making a lot more money off each barbie even though they're more interesting fascinating diverse inclusive than any of the line. At that i've ever seen as we made significant progress improving. Our ability. Gross margin has increased for the tenth consecutive quarter. And this is only getting better and stronger in terms of cash flow if you look at the journey that we've achieved last three years. Gross margin improved over. Eleven hundred points are cash flow improved by almost five hundred million dollars and our operating income is up more than six hundred and fifty million dollars so very strong performance on the bottom line. And we're making good progress on the top line as well. This was the second quarter in the row where we improve our top line by double digit. You're making it look easy. There was a time. When i first met who. I looked at your balance sheet and i question you're you're not your visibility your viability. The viability certainly taken off the table. Visibilities take off the table. At this point. I now have to wonder. You've got this great balance sheet now. I mean really is you've delivered. You have the number one of the industry you ever. American girl turnaround. Is it time to do something. Even were used something. The entertainment industry that you used to be king of come on free cash flow has steadily improved over the last three years we went from a negative three hundred and twenty five million dollars in two thousand seventeen to a positive one hundred and sixty seven million dollars this year going forward will will be focused on converting an increasing percentage of our ebitda into free cash flow and as we've previously stated we intend to utilize cash to reduce our debt and improve on balance sheet even further given the expectation for higher and more asian of cash. We expect to Continue to reduce our leverage ratio. And make our way towards an investment grade rating.

What the Shell? Cracking the Lobster's Mysteries
"I still get emails about this episode of the show friends where Ross and Rachel the characters finally hookup after this law. Middle Row Manson phoebe is Kinda Tree hugger in the group She's like Oh look I knew it. Her lobster. Because, she has this kind of pop culture idea going that lobsters made life. In, there it's going to happen. How did you know that? Because she's your lobster on you guys, it's a known fact that lobsters fall love and mate for life and you know you can actually see old lobster couples walking around their tank. Hoping 'cause. They. Are lobster. All these years later, I can still hear phoebe in my head saying bad. She convinced millions of people that lobsters are super romantic on the all I care is that lobsters are super delicious but I guess it's good that they have some happiness before ending up inside a buttered roll. Delicious Delicious Lobster Roll I live in New England and Lobster are pretty much the pinnacle of summer here. Perfect for the latest episode of gastropod The podcast that looks at food. Through the Lens of Science in history I'm Cynthia Graber and I'm Nicola Twilley and this episode we're considering the lobster like first things I do lobster's really have lifelong love affairs as phoebe claims or are there relationships a little more complicated than that heads up for those of you listening with folks who might find lobster sex little too steamy. Sorry. But this episode really does get into it with the lobster bedroom action you have been warned time getting a little worm. Already but speaking of steamy, how did steamed lobsters go from prison fair to the highest chalance a fine dining out of the lobster go from trashy too fancy and finally, what does the military one with our lobsters quick note from our last episode for you Baker's out there some listeners. Let us know that American pyrex is no longer borough silica glass. European. PYREX is which is great. But American. PYREX is now made of tempered Soda Lime Glass which is the same. Stuff as drinking glasses, but the tempering means it's harder and also heat resistant, but it's not quite as shatterproof Hasbro Silica class. So Americans can cook in this new PYREX. There's a lot of fine print from the company about how to use. It can actually shatter. We've updated the episode, but we also wanted those of you who already listen to know and be careful if you've got the newer American pyrex exploding glass is not a fun mix in cakes and casseroles. Couple of weeks ago I had to Maine, with my partner Tim for some very critical gastropod research someone has to do the hard work on this show Cynthia taking one for the team like the hero she is. I'M GONNA see how easy it is to crack this lobster shell. They didn't give me any like cranky things. How do I crack a lobster? Without a lobster cracker to bring your own. It didn't say turns out. All I had to do is go back to where the Napkins were and grab a nutcracker okay. I'M GONNA I'M GONNA try. Okay. That's not so bad. So the cracking wasn't super hard to do, and then I sat right into gorge myself on all that delicious lobster meat of course, all the while dipping it into the cup of melted butter. One of the very few things I miss about living on the east coast is the summertime lobster roll. I personally am a hot butter girl although I won't turn down a Cold Mayo. Role I'm equal opportunity when it comes to lobster roll I love lobster rolls. I also love whole steamed lobsters as you listeners all just heard and some are really is the height of lobster season here. It's when the waters closer to shore warm up and the lobsters crawl into that shallower water to and mate, and they also happen to crawl into lots of local lobster traps. Summer is also when the shore in. New. England finally. Warms up enough for lots of tourists to crawl out onto it and enjoy a summer vacation tourists like Trevor Corson of the book, the secret life of lobsters my grandparents were summer visitors to Maine when I was a little kid and we would go visit them there and as a very small child, I was completely entrenched with the lobster boats when they would come into the dock. So watch them unload their lobster catch and to me, the lobstermen were were like these cowboys of the East you know they were these romantic rugged individualism and I was so angered of of them in their boats that I had decided already. Pretty. Early on when I was a kid I was going to grow up to be a Lobsterman and that didn't plan pan out. At all trevor became a writer instead, which as everyone knows is way less glamorous but he figured out a way to finagle himself into becoming a temporary lobstermen by writing a book about it, and so I actually moved to the small island. You know with seventy people on it year round in the winter and lived there for two years and became what's called a stern man on a lobster boat fishermen used often the term fishermen are stern man in a gender neutral way. Hasbro Troll dolls almost broke the internet
"Figured we talk about a couple of stories because I've gotten I have gotten questions about both of these topics, email to me and message to me. So we ran a story over unfiltered free parents last week about the Hasbro troll doll. Did you see this tiffany? Yes, I did. Okay. So this troll doll, which is based on the character poppy. Basically it it has a button on the belly where the belly button would be, and it sings and it has like ten different phrases and sings different songs and then what parents noticed was when they opened up the doll box and they looked at the doll, there is a second button betwixt poppies legs in the. Spot and when you push it, she squeals and giggles. And that is not noted on the box. That anywhere. hoppy has a special upside down mix up park button where she's giggles and squeals. But this mom just Jessica McManus started this petition online saying. This isn't appropriate for a lot of reasons. She started a petition on change dot org where she got well over two hundred, thousand signatures at this point she says, this troll doll is basically conditioning kids should we do a trigger warning trigger warning? D. Say. Those words that could be triggering to people in regards to abuse. Okay. Is that what you have to say I? Think I. Don't know if we're GONNA talk about it. We should at least put it like on the caption of the thing when we post it is all in Oh for the for the episode. Yeah. I thought you meant right this minute we'll. Yeah, it doesn't hurt. Okay. All right. Do it now to they'd call I didn't think that near correct. But what they're basically saying is this doll and the placement of this button and the sounds at the dollar makes when you touch the button. are conditioning our kids towards A. Pedophilia being okay with being touched or molested or pedophile pedophilia, and they're saying that that's okay and some parents on the other side of this or saying we're really were really reaching. This is such a canceled culture. This is such a this. This is such that, and then there are lots of parents that are saying, well, why are we putting a button in that spot? Anyway. Like what is the need for a child's toy for a button to be there? So I just thought we'd have a conversation about that. Well and from what I understand. There isn't an actual button correct me if I'm wrong. There isn't an actual button on the dolls stomach. Like there's no, it's inside. So you so her stomach is flat and you touch it. It's right. It's like a squeeze I, guess. Yeah. Whereas on the CROTCH. It's an actual protruding it is there is. There is a cut out. You can see the button it looks it's a circular button. That's exactly what it looks like that. You would rise and so that's my point is that why I don't know anyway so I was interested in what they had to say about it. They said, this feature was designed to react when the doll was seated, but we recognize the placement of the sensor may be perceived as an appropriate. Does like what does that mean like when you slam it down it goes When you sit down at does it like gasps and giggles? and. So. It begs a few questions for me personally number one I'd like to know how did it get through? So many marketing and production meetings that nobody was in the corner raising their hands saying hey. Quick. Question why are we putting a button on poly? What's her name Poppies Vagina like why are we doing like? Why would we put it? They're like why? If we want poppy to sing an extra song or doing extra giggle? Do we not put it on the hand? Are we not put like like you know what I'm saying like there was nobody in any one of these because you have to think. I don't know much about big business but what I can tell you. Is that there had to have been how many marketing and production meetings and prototypes built of poppy prior to going to production and being in the local Walmart and target Right. There have to. There's no way because I I just know how many times I have to get a sample of t-shirt when I'm just printing my own t shirts where I'm like, you know what I don't like I don't like the way the t looks there. I don't like the this or that, and you play with it and you go back and forth how many meetings did they have? Where people were sitting around a table and looking at a prototype and think note the vagina that's where the button should be, and even if it was for sitting how often in reality are you actually like sitting? Adul- down I'm trying to think like I feel like when my kid plays with dolls, they're standing and just be beep and then thrown like it's never like. Seated so much that there needs to be or it would make sense. It would make sense if it was one of those, like, do you remember the dolls that the ones that you feed the Plato or the bottle with, and then you sit them on the toilet? That makes sense to see to have a seated position for the doll because I have I have taken a bunch of Plato out of out of that dolls. But before because what was it baby alive? That's stupid. Baby alive was you'd feed it Sophia would feed it. There was little plato things where you could make it look like peas or carrots or baby food or whatever, and then it would eventually make. Its way into the diaper but mostly, I was just pulling plato out of dolls but right. But it would sit on a potty and you could make p you'd push its belly and the P. would come out. Yes. So that would make sense for a seated thing.
