"Last night. We got a terrific from the tell. That's the iconic toymaker. What happens the soccer name. No kidding it actually said because day reminding. Managers found hard to get excited too worried about the ready crew. Gresley bidding up the canvas stocks. But make no mistake. Mattel's doing great. Ceo on crisis orchestrated effort. -nificant turnaround here. And let's have got yet another confidence-inspiring aspiring quarter. The country poorer top and bottom line with bush guide for twenty twenty one in response suck actually spiked. Three percent in early trading. Getting dragged down by the on weeds. What i'm calling the rest of the market. So could this really have room to run. Let's take a closer look with you on crises. The turnaround orders chairman. Ceo patel real. These results michigan. Welcome back demand money. Jim it's great to be here in on your manager word when things weren't doing waste things weren't doing well when things that down very low you said things are starting to get better. This was the finest fourth quarter in fifteen years despite a worldwide pandemic. Talmadge do it. Yes jim this was an exceptional quarter for mattel without best performance in years with strong consumer demand and another milestone near for the company for the second quarter in a row which have double digit sales growth without grace. The industry in gain share on a global basis but are results excited expectation on many levels with the highest fourth quarter growth in fifteen years as you said with a significant increase in profitability with a full year operating income. That was two and a half times higher than than last year. But this is not just about the quarter or the year. It's about a multi year strategy that is tracking very well which puts us on in a strong position to continue to increase profitability and etc growth. In two thousand twenty one and beyond what i liked about it but these were all fantastic numbers but you told me one day jim this company which has terrible cash flow can make fortunes on everything that it does put out so when barbie has a plus eighteen percent quarter number one toy property globally in twenty twenty doll- but boy you're making a lot more money off each barbie even though they're more interesting fascinating diverse inclusive than any of the line. At that i've ever seen as we made significant progress improving. Our ability. Gross margin has increased for the tenth consecutive quarter. And this is only getting better and stronger in terms of cash flow if you look at the journey that we've achieved last three years. Gross margin improved over. Eleven hundred points are cash flow improved by almost five hundred million dollars and our operating income is up more than six hundred and fifty million dollars so very strong performance on the bottom line. And we're making good progress on the top line as well. This was the second quarter in the row where we improve our top line by double digit. You're making it look easy. There was a time. When i first met who. I looked at your balance sheet and i question you're you're not your visibility your viability. The viability certainly taken off the table. Visibilities take off the table. At this point. I now have to wonder. You've got this great balance sheet now. I mean really is you've delivered. You have the number one of the industry you ever. American girl turnaround. Is it time to do something. Even were used something. The entertainment industry that you used to be king of come on free cash flow has steadily improved over the last three years we went from a negative three hundred and twenty five million dollars in two thousand seventeen to a positive one hundred and sixty seven million dollars this year going forward will will be focused on converting an increasing percentage of our ebitda into free cash flow and as we've previously stated we intend to utilize cash to reduce our debt and improve on balance sheet even further given the expectation for higher and more asian of cash. We expect to Continue to reduce our leverage ratio. And make our way towards an investment grade rating.

Its books cooking scandal and plugged into the new video game craze. It's home video games console. The television is delivering hundreds of millions of dollars in sales every year. Hasbro chief stephen hassenfeld. Canadian watch with envy. Hasbro can afford to get into video games so instead. He's hunting for a toy that can revive his company's fortunes. This is episode for resurrection. Joe the hasbro voice team is back in front of hassenfeld after two weeks scrambled a redo their botched. Gi joe pitch. They know today is their final chance to revive the company's iconic soldier doll hassenfeld settles in his chair and signals for them to start the team. Dims the lights. But today there are no theatrics just advertising chief job mccalla slide projector. You're right we don't have a movie. We have something. Better he clicks to the first slide a mockup of a gi joe comic book. We've got a marvel comic. It will tell the story of gi. Joe and elite peacekeeping force that defends the world from the terrorist group cobra. We're going to give marvel the entire gi joe ad budget so they can promote the comic using animated tv ads. The comic in those commercials will reach way more kids than star wars because kids can only see star wars when it's in theaters. That's our hook. The team waits for hassenfeld response. But he says nothing so they turn out the light hassenfeld at the back of the room. Are those tears. Welling up in his is finally he speaks. I wish my father was alive to see this. I'm going to the cemetery. I need to tell him. Gi joes back and without hassenfeld leaves the room. But hasbro's not the only toymaker plotting to take on star wars three thousand miles away in los angeles mattel's also preparing an assault on the action. Figure market for mattel challenging star. Wars isn't just about money. It's about pride to in one thousand nine hundred ninety seven. The company turned down the rights to star wars. Half a million dollars to make toys for a no name. Movie from a little known director. Sounded like a really dumb idea back then. The company's been ruing that decision ever sense. But now mattel thinks it has a star wars killer a line of fantastic action. Figures called the masters of the universe. But mattel wants to be sure about its new idea before starting production. And that's why it's invited toys r. us to it's l. A. headquarters for a preview as the toys r. Us buyer watches. Mattel vice-president marc ellis introduces the figures lined up on the meeting rooms table. Each one is locked in a ready to fight pose. He grabs an improbably muscular barbarian with blonde hair. This is he man. he's the hero and the most powerful man in the universe next. Ls grabs a blue skinned beefcake with a skull face understood. And this is he. Man's archenemy the evil steeler tar. Now let me show you. What makes them really special after placing the two figures nose to nose on the table. He pulls back man's right arm causing the figures torso swivel round then. Ls let's go and how he meant snaps back into place in his clenched fist slams into skeletal sending the evil one flying. That's the power patch. Kids will go nuts for this next. Ls hands the buyer a pocket sized comic book two weeks ago. This didn't exist. But after their first toy buyer complained there was nothing to explain the characters. Mattel quickly created this illustrated guide. Every figure will come with these comics which will tell the masters of the universe story. The buyer looks puzzled. Thought you said these were for five year olds well. Five year olds. Don't read what use is a comic. Ls fields a surge. Panic toys r. Us can't reject masters of the universe. There too big of a chain so he improvises. I forgot to mention the animated tv. Show the man from toys r. Us leaves happy. But now mattel's got a tv show to make it teams up with the cartoon studio but the animated series won't be ready for almost two years until then he man's going to have to battle gi joe without tv backup in early. Nineteen eighty-two hasbro in mattel's rival action figures arrive in stores and both the new lines sell fast mattel's muscle bound figures gross almost forty million dollars that year. Double what the company expected. But they're no match for hasbro's. Josh joe with the help of the tie in marvel comic it rakes in fifty million dollars but then.

"Its early nineteen eighty-one and inside hasbro's offices in pawtucket rhode island. Two men are waiting nervously in the corridor outside the company's auditorium inside ceo stephen hassenfeld is reviewing new product ideas and these two executives are due to pitch their latest concept any moment now the shorter of the two looks up at his tall broad shouldered colleague. Is this a good idea. I mean this isn't just any. Oh toy it's got emotional baggage the larger man. Shrugs as he puts on green army jacket then. They hear the sound of henry fillmore patriotic anthem. Americans we coming from inside the auditorium. Well it's too late now. That's my cue. Don't forget this. The large man takes a steel pot helmet from his colleague and pulls it down over his head. So how do. I look like muscle. Leaney's long lost brother. Screw you and with add. The man of the helmet and army jacket marches into the auditorium. He stops at the lectern and stands to attention. The lights are dimmed but he can just about make out hassenfeld mop of curly hair and big glasses he salutes. The ceo and starts the pitch commander. The enemy has is surrounded but we shall never surrender. We shall fight but if we are to win this war. Commander we're going to need hero are real american hero. We're going to need. Gi joe theatrics over. He hands off the presentation to his fellow hasbro executives who explained why the company should resurrect gi. Joe joe's been missing in action since seventy eight following his ill-fated phase as a superhero since then the ohio toymaker kenner has captured. Almost all of the action figure market with its star wars dolls but the hasbro team reckons. It's time to strike back. Ronald reagan's just entered the white house in patriotisms back in vogue. Also there won't be a new star wars movie in nineteen eighty-two now's their chance to make inroads before star wars fever returns the team braces for their ceo's reaction hassenfeld doesn't pull punches in these meetings and today is no exception on not approving this. You have no hook star. Wars has a hook. It's got a movie. I'm giving you two out of ten. Ouch in hasn't tells world anything. Below eight is unacceptable one of the executives leaps to his feet on how you keep saying grow the business grow the business but then you reject every idea we have you keep this up. I'm quitting hasn't fell leans back in his chair. He's torn gi. Joe hold a special place in his heart. His father helped introduce the groundbreaking toy but he doesn't want to let cinnamon taliban cloud his decision. Fine you have two weeks to craft to pitch worth my time. The team is surprised by their stay of execution. But now the pressure's really on they've only got two weeks to save g. I joe on the internet. You can be anyone. "It's february nineteen seventy seven and in new york city toy fairs underway in hasbro showroom. Stephen hassenfeld is introducing a store buyer to the company's latest creations stevens the company's president and son of ceo merrill hassenfeld the curly haired thirty two year old starts by showing the buyer a display of superhero figures. This is the no gi. Joe super joe. The buyer peers at the superhero action. Figure in the red jumpsuit doesn't look much like gi. Joe stephen smaller to what a eight inches high The crisis is forcing the price of plastics. Way up so we may joe smaller that way. He's still competitive on price. What do you think honestly well. It feels desperate. Gi joe's not selling so you're copying migos action figures. Yes new york toymaker. Migos world's greatest superheroes reducing the world's greatest superheroes batman and robin dynamic duo superman momentum steal these miniature replicas of dc and marvel comic book characters are all the rage now. Kids don't want gi joes these days. Bearded adventurers who lack superpowers aren't cool instead. They want the incredible hulk the amazing spiderman and wonder woman the buyers shakes his head. Sorry i just don't think this a chance. What kittle choose. That guy over superman stephen puts on a brave face well if his name recognition your after. I've got just the thing follow me. He takes the buyer to the other end of the hasbro showroom. The girl's toys zone as they approached. Display the buyer. Here's the familiar tune of the charlie's angels theme song. The tv shows bene- smash hit since it debuted in nineteen seventy six meet. Charlie's angels in front of the buyer is a large display of eight and a half inch high plastic re-creations of the shows. Glamorous crimefighting female stars next to them is a truck colored in dazzling orange pink and magenta as the buyer takes a closer look. Stephen makes his sales pitch. So charlie's angels top ten tv show and now the latest thing in fashion dolls next. Charlie's angels barbies boring. There are three dollars one for each of the shows leading ladies and that means girls or one all three. They've got glamorous dresses and closed for action packed adventures. Like this store killing outfit. The buyers excited this is more like it. You're onto something here how much you're gonna spend on tv commercials. Two million dollars two million dollars for the initial campaign okay. I'm sold right out an order. Now stephen smiles. He's starting to think he's finally hit. On a way to grab market share from barbie and god knows hasbro needs it. The nineteen seventies haven't been kind to hasbro as gi joe's popularity waned so have hasbro's finances the company struggling so badly that ceo merrill hassenfeld has had to use the family home security for the loans. It needs to stay afloat as the buyer. Hand stephen the order for him he pops question say he got any of them. The electron of games not yet but stay tuned. That's a shame mattel's got a new football when that's going to sell like crazy. Everyone's doing them coleco milton bradley. Parker brothers you need to get in on this. You don't want to end up having been rather than hasbro right. Steven smiles weakly. Truth is he wants hasbro to get into video games but the company's just too broke to do it. Maybe if charlie's angels cells has broken go tech too but hasbro's crimefighting dolls. Can't break barbies firm grip on little girls that christmas. Barbie grinds charlie's angels into the dust under her pink stiletto super joe's a disaster to by the end of nineteen seventy-eight both gi joe and charlies angels off the market. Losing charlie's angels that's one thing but dumping. Gi joe hurts gi. Joe made hasbro but stephen and his dad. No kids are fickle customers and sometimes says a toy maker. Even your favorites must fall by the wayside as nineteen seventy nine begins. It's looking bleak for hasbro. The company lost more than five million dollars in one thousand nine hundred seventy eight a loss. That would have been a lot. Bigger if it wasn't for the surprise success of the board game hungry hungry hippos and accompanies ever reliable pencil factory. The losses confirmed wall. Street's view the hasbro as a dud stock even worse the losses have split the hassenfeld family stevens. Uncle herald runs the pencil division. And he's had enough of carrying the toy business. There's now talk breaking the company in two and then just when it seemed like things couldn't get worse. Merrill suffers a heart attack at work. he's rushed to the hospital but doesn't survive with his dad. Gone stephen now finds himself the grieving. Ceo of a toy company on its knees a toy companies stuck in the plastic age. Just as mattel on its rivals plug into the video game future a toy company. That's about to lose the pencil factory. That is it's only source of stable income and on top of all that stephen is a man living in fear. Fear of anyone finding out. He's gay on the next episode. Stephen hassenfeld transforms hasbro. "To barbie mattel's flying high in fewer than fifteen years. It's gone from a tiny startup in la garage to the biggest toy maker in the world but life is tougher for its east coast. Rival hasbro hasn't scored big since the debut of mr potato head in the early fifties and the company still earns way more for making pencils and toys. Now hasbro creative director. Don levin thinks his soldier doll could be the game changer. the company needs but he's got an uphill battle ahead persuading hasbro ceo merrill hassenfeld to bet everything on gi. Joe this is episode two boy. It's may nine hundred and sixty three and on the second floor of a squat. Red brick factory in central falls rhode island hasbro's designers are busy with their secret mission to create gi. Joe one designer uses a sewing machine to stitch a miniature naval uniform. Another is devising blueprints for gi joe's wrist joints and near the stairwell leading to the design floor and artist is sketching packaging designs. Suddenly the artist freezes. Everyone in the room goes silent and listen. They know that sound. it's the tail. Stop of merrill hassenfeld rotunda frame heading up the stairwell to their floor. The team leaps into action. They shove prototype. Dolls desk drawers stuff. Half stitched fabrics into their pockets and stash artwork behind filing cabinets. They barely returned to their seats. When hassenfeld walks in the hasbro boss pauses at the entrance and scans the room through his thick black rimmed glasses. It's like he's looking for something then without a word hasn't failed marches until levine's office and shuts the door behind him inside the office levin. Plays it cool. They merrill how was your trip good good. What's the latest on. The toys and development levin rattled through their projects hassenfeld already knows about cosmetics line for little girls a new plastic body for mr potato head hassenfeld. Let's levin finish but looks disinterested anything else. It's clear hassenfeld hasn't come to hear about those projects levin figures word must've gotten out about the team's top secret project he decides to come clean and there's something new to hassenfeld doesn't look surprised levin buzzes secretary. Can you bring the movable soldier prototype seconds later. The secretary delivers a cigar box to the office after she leaves levin opens the box inside. There's a candle. He's dressed in an olive green army uniform and his plastic cares been filed down to a military. Buzz cut hasn't felt raises bushy eyebrows and squint at military. Ken before hassenfeld can say anything. Levin starts pitching hard. this is a boy's toy. They uses the same business model. As mattel uses for barbie. We're not just designing soldier here. We're designing sold separately military equipment for him to use to canteens tents rifles. Flame throwers sleeping bags. Scuba gear the whole lot. You'll be posible. Like an artist mannequin. It's a new type of toy. Fully posible man of action an action figure has impelled crosses his arms. Where will this be manufactured. I'm thinking somewhere in the orient. To keep cost down has failed. Looks uneasy like most american toymakers in the early sixties. Hasbro's never made anything outside the united states. I don't know about this done. It's quite a leap. I need to give it some thought after hassenfeld leaves levin calls the gi joe team into his office okay. He hasn't said no not yet. At least so we need to work fast. The closer we are to a finished product the harbor. It'll be for him to say no now. This remains top secret. I don't want mattel getting word of what we're doing. It's summer nineteen sixty three and in chelsea massachusetts. A dodge lancer has just pulled up outside of plane warehouse. The driver is hasbro product developer. Jerry einhorn einhorn gets out of his car and looks around. There are no signs but he's sure this is the place this is not your average toy develop mission. He's heard this warehouse sell surplus army gear to south. American revolutionaries and einhorn needs weapons real-life weapons that he can use as models for gi joe's pocket-sized load out. He heads into the warehouse. As his is adjusted. The dimly lit interior. He sees stacks of second uniforms aging rifles on racks and large wooden crates. Full of surplus mortar shells. Then a man in a black suit emerges from the shadows. Can i help you. Einhorn's got his cover story ready. Iona museum out in south county rhode island. We're we're doing a world war display. And i'm after gear for the exhibit. Right because what you need. Einhorn spins an hour rummaging around the warehouse. He loads the trunk of his car with uniforms. Hand-grenades rifles bazooka shells and more enough equipment to make his car sag under the weight car loaded. Einhorn starts driving back to rhode island but just minutes later. He takes the wrong exit from the highway. In winds up in downtown boston hopelessly lost einhorn drives through. The streets discreetly looking for a way back. And that's when he makes the illegal left turn in front of a cop standing on the corner. The policeman motions for einhorn to pullover as the cop. Approaches bead of sweat runs down. Einhorn's back higher officer. What did i do wrong. Do not see the no left turn sign. Oh i'm sorry i'm lost. I'm trying to get back to back to rhode island. I was on the expressway. Right license and registration please. After taking the documents the cop wonders to the back of einhorn's car s. He watches the officer through the side mirror. He recalls. What levine said. Before he made this trip no one can know anything about gi. Joe if the cops pick you up we don't know you and just as he's remembering levine's words the cop puts his right foot onto the car bumper causing the car's weight to shift einhorn's heart skips a beat. Come open the truck sir. Gingerly einhorn exits the car and heads to the bag. He inserts the key and opens the trunk to reveal his hall of weapons and gear a machete stained with dried blood. Glints in the sun What's all this. It's for the museum. I work at a in.

Middle Row Manson phoebe is Kinda Tree hugger in the group She's like Oh look I knew it. Her lobster. Because, she has this kind of pop culture idea going that lobsters made life. Because she's your lobster on you guys, it's a known fact that lobsters fall love and mate for life and you know you can actually see old lobster couples walking around their tank. Hoping 'cause. They. Are lobster. All these years later, I can still hear phoebe in my head saying bad. She convinced millions of people that lobsters are super romantic on the all I care is that lobsters are super delicious but I guess it's good that they have some happiness before ending up inside a buttered roll. Delicious Delicious Lobster Roll I live in New England and Lobster are pretty much the pinnacle of summer here. Perfect for the latest episode of gastropod The podcast that looks at food. Let us know that American pyrex is no longer borough silica glass. European. PYREX is which is great. But American. PYREX is now made of tempered Soda Lime Glass which is the same. Stuff as drinking glasses, but the tempering means it's harder and also heat resistant, but it's not quite as shatterproof Hasbro Silica class. So Americans can cook in this new PYREX. There's a lot of fine print from the company about how to use. It can actually shatter. We've updated the episode, but we also wanted those of you who already listen to know and be careful if you've got the newer American pyrex exploding glass is not a fun mix in cakes and casseroles. I'M GONNA see how easy it is to crack this lobster shell. They didn't give me any like cranky things. How do I crack a lobster? Without a lobster cracker to bring your own. It didn't say turns out. All I had to do is go back to where the Napkins were and grab a nutcracker okay. I'M GONNA I'M GONNA try. Okay. That's not so bad. So the cracking wasn't super hard to do, and then I sat right into gorge myself on all that delicious lobster meat of course, all the while dipping it into the cup of melted butter. One of the very few things I miss about living on the east coast is the summertime lobster roll. I personally am a hot butter girl although I won't turn down a Cold Mayo. Role I'm equal opportunity when it comes to lobster roll I love lobster rolls. I also love whole steamed lobsters as you listeners all just heard and some are really is the height of lobster season here. It's when the waters closer to shore warm up and the lobsters crawl into that shallower water to and mate, and they also happen to crawl into lots of local lobster traps. Summer is also when the shore in. New. England finally. Warms up enough for lots of tourists to crawl out onto it and enjoy a summer vacation tourists like Trevor Corson of the book, the secret life of lobsters my grandparents were summer visitors to Maine when I was a little kid and we would go visit them there and as a very small child, I was completely entrenched with the lobster boats when they would come into the dock. So watch them unload their lobster catch and to me, the lobstermen were were like these cowboys of the East you know they were these romantic rugged individualism and I was so angered of of them in their boats that I had decided already. Pretty. Early on when I was a kid I was going to grow up to be a Lobsterman and that didn't plan pan out. At all trevor became a writer instead, which as everyone knows is way less glamorous but he figured out a way to finagle himself into becoming a temporary lobstermen by writing a book about it, and so I actually moved to the small island. You know with seventy people on it year round in the winter and lived there for two years and became what's called a stern man on a lobster boat fishermen used often the term fishermen are stern man in a gender neutral way. There are females who call themselves that as

"Been a longtime follower of both of you since about day one every week and every day you to give me in so many other parents with laughter tears in such relatable content. Thank you both for doing what you do never stopped being yourselves. Thank you. Oh, that's sweet. We get it. Doesn't it. I'm your host Meredith Mason and I'm your host tiffany. Jenkins. This podcast will discuss all things marriage motherhood and everything in between. Please remember we're not professionals at anything you may actually need. So any advice we give you you can take. Or leave because it might be crap on today's episode of take it or leave it. My husband got tired of not talking about anything and just straight up nonsense so I did. I did find a couple of stories to talk about and he is right. I was just getting straight up lazy my brain I'm telling you this decision fatigue. My brain has just been so overwhelmed. So I picked a couple of topics to chat about. But today we have Kim opening up the show for us from Ontario. Be Sure to call three, one, five, eight, three, four, two, six, nine, six, and leave us a message so you can open up the show for us. Hey, this is Kim from kick down on the mom of a two year old saucy girl an eleven year old boy that's open the show a little differently today and says just doing her mom sale. Let's do a very proud moment. No live egging. She come up with that I. Think. So she said she wanted us to do a mom bragging moment. Momma proud mom men and she also said no lie bagging which I really liked that she. That's cute. Cool brave trail-blazing. She's trailblazer. I love it. Okay. So do you have any? I'm sure you must have some one. Yeah a few. Schneider's of one. No, I mean I. Proud moment. Just like I've been out of town in Georgia so I haven't really been around lately for the past since Friday but I kept my kids home today so that I, could hang out with them. Nice because I miss him. Yeah. You were gone for a for a little bit was just you in Paris that went? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Because I I saw your trip I mean what you shared of it. Anyway I cried like a baby and I was leaving yeah, I'm sure. What about you? I don't know if I mentioned this last week or not I. Know I mentioned it online on alive or something but. All of my kids summer camps were cancelled obviously because of covid and so. They were really bummed about that, and then there is a we found a surf camp. That's down at the beach and. I talked with David about it and I was like, Gosh we let the kids do this because they've been boogie boarding all summer and Sophia was like I WANNA learn to surf and so We decided that we were going to let them do it. We went and we watched one of the days of Surf Camp at the end of the last week to. See how they did it and to see really where the kids all over each other, what what were they actually distancing how many kids were in a group with these coaches and they had really small groups. They had three kids with a coach and they were out in the water and it's open air, and so it made me comfortable enough to sign them up. And what I can tell you as I am so proud of Sofia. She looks so comfortable on a surfboard they my kids were never beach prior to coming over to this coast and I can tell you that they just WanNa live at the beach now, which is where we've spent most of our time because it's very easy to be outside right now and you're not freaking out. But she's just getting up on that surfboard and she's just like ride in waves and it's the first thing that she's been excited about since she. Stopped doing competitive gymnastics. So it made me happy and it made me proud that she was getting out there and enjoying something and I don't know it's been. Good, job it's been great. So there's that that's amazing I'm glad that they like it faraway. They're saying I'm too far away you I I can't see their comments. So how the video they're saying I'm too far away in the video but I can't move the table because my large dog is sitting in one. Can you see the livestream is it is it from Dave's point of view? No it's here. It's just the cameras far farther away. It's usually right about there. Okay. Well, then maybe it's I, Dunno. I duNNo. Okay. Her arm. It's weird. My kid had a surgery after she broke her arm they had to screw the to the head of the elbow. The all back. The head of her elbow, the only head of her elbow had like a the. So the owner has that like weird bony side that sticks out that looks like like what you imagine a dog bone like when they pick up a dog bone I mean it's got like that piece it's called the head and it's right here and when she when she dislocated her elbow, this snapped off and broke, and so they had to screw the head back onto the bone. So she has a screw inside of that. It's it's intense decent size screw and she complains that it hurts all the time. So she keeps asking me to take her back and have it removed and I'm like I, don't I don't think they take those out like I think that's how it stays on now like I don't and she just wants it taken out. She complains every day that it hurts. So she has A. Pediatrician appointment for a well visit next month and I'm going to ask them. It'd be like, Hey, my kid had that. Had that screwed back on do they In our unit, an elbow head or can we live without it? Do you need it like once the bone heals can you take the screw out is going to be my question? No because then they're gonNA have to re break the bone to get it out your Wacko. Okay. Well, I don't. I don't know the answer it's going to be in I. Don't know either but anyway so. Anne who's olmec to`sell it probably does need to stay in there which I I keep telling her but she's you know eleven and ignores everything I say because I'm a moron. And she's constantly telling me how wrong I am about everything in life. So there's that it was I was listening to our podcast on the road trip Because I've never actually like sit down. Sat. Down and listened to it back and I. was like man I really need speed it up like I feel like I talked really slow and like take forever to get to the point. I don't I've never noticed that I have really I think yeah. It's like I was boring myself. With my mouth, my own voice. Anyway okay. As let's get into it now, I'm in a rush because I want to speed through everything because I feel do slow. I. Don't I don't think that's true but anyway. All right. So I figured we talk about a couple of stories because I've gotten I have gotten questions about both of these topics, email to me and message to me. So we ran a story over unfiltered free parents last week about the Hasbro troll doll. Did you see this tiffany? Yes, I did. Okay. So this troll doll, which is based on the character poppy. But this mom just Jessica McManus started this petition online saying. This isn't appropriate for a lot of reasons. She started a petition on change dot org where she got well over two hundred, thousand signatures at this point she says, this troll doll is basically conditioning kids should we do a trigger warning trigger warning? And yes, one year to basically leave bankruptcy in the US and then three years to survive three years to reboot in DC where we are today. Now too long process, but you said like threat that whole time game so is that is that painting a passion like a personal passion for you? I've always liked you know new issue in games I'm the Not of not do producer I am more than the executive producer zero are. Tried to make things happen some set. To. have to rely on teams so It's The beauty of his business inc is you know you always want you create you don't know if he's is going to work. but if you wait in the most if It is just to realize acknowledged it'd be steak. So if you kill the game early enough, you will not lose money not not too much suit against it come back. It's like four right you wanna stay at the table so don't go in. for each project because you're going to end the bust I think it's just a question of you know amid a mistake. Let's get it. Let's stop here. Don't. Business Point during the game into the market because you're GONNA lose bovine. So join me because you have to be. Arab record in the analyses and your ignorance rich of any state as if you can follow me. Something I'd love to get your thoughts on to what I've seen in bit is, is they small indie studios may make say one mobile game it'll explode it'll go huge but then they really struggled to get that follow up game. Is there a lot of pressure from these studios? Maybe they've gained investment off the back of their previous success in the being pushed like you need more than a one hit wonder. I think the win seats in never run in the studio a who is being on the publisher side of the investor side or the executive produce aside so. It's a very difficult business Tell you want I you know it's like being tennis. You have one federer you have one the dog. Thousand Meetings of. Or? So people tend to look at one. Success Rightly, I would say, but visit outs look at these guys we have invested X. and they've met in one meeting thunder. In your yet but so it's great but don't forget. You have one fitter one dollar, your nuggets of Denny spares in the world. So you have. Millions of studios but drivenow studios. We didn't make it. So you have to be very mindful of act and then I would say the of issue. With the to studio that I've found is, is guys deb's in big gain of Utah everything inside the game in before you also did some marketing daughters, your some hours. So He's what received a lot of example than you know, sad stories for studios and great stories above issues where you know. That has invested more than. Adding to the game and the students Vancouver's do better but they don't have the mind to finish Beta on investing marketing issue with somebody was the money we physically speaking up though the project. So it's very, it's a, it's a very difficult situation in. What's going to do the Tories? reconized that than trying to out drank to basically. Bring product to some products to the market, but it's very difficult to. The point is once you have the game, usually the sequel is easy because you have a young money flowing obscene. Experience situation. So you don't have enough problems on after two years or three years at you like, okay. What do we wanted to?

Scrabble app faces backlash from traditionalists as board game goes online

"Today's topic is scrabble. US Avid. Word nerds have been using the a scrabble APP for many years now it's a great way to fill the time and challenge your mind as you deal with the stress of corona virus and zoom calls. My Mom who's eighty five years old with an incredible mind for words plays every day. Unfortunately despite America's urgent need for things to pass the time right now, the folks Hasbro decided to kill ea scrabble. For most people. It stopped working on June sixth. Almost five hundred people have commented on my blog post about the shutdown and boyer they, upset. In the place of EA scrabble, you can try the new APP scrabble go created by scope. If, you can imagine they've game fide scrabble. scrabble go includes throbbing graphics in Garish Orange, Yellow and purple. It constantly bugs you to get your facebook friends to play. You could earn chestful of virtual prizes and customize your scrabble tiles. It includes duels, tournaments and timed contests that everyday scrabble players would have no interest in. After ten you get to watch pure. Add for other silly games more suitable for children. I did my best to give scrabble go a fair chance, but even if you can get past the distracting graphics lighting up like a Vegas Casino, there are problems. I cost four dollars ninety nine cents a month to get rid of the ADS and get features that used to be free like seeing the best move that you missed. Sixty dollars a year is pretty steep. Second. If you like to play the machine, you'll be disappointed. You Play Zoe an animated Avatar with an unnaturally large head. WHO's a pretty lame scrabble player? Many players, soliciting you to play, are actually bites. WHO also tend to be terrible? Third the game includes boosts which allow people to cheat. Once you accumulate enough gems. You can swap out your tiles anytime when any move which makes it way too easy. The only escape is a deeply buried classic mode. Finally. Many women players tell me that men are hitting on them using scrabble. Go as a dating site. My evaluation despite the name scrabble go isn't even good enough to use when sitting in the bathroom. Don't despair though there are alternatives. If you like to play the computer, the best choice is word master pro. This elegant APP created by developer and Brazil has a computer that plays at lightning speed, and can be set to a high challenge level, and to avoid strange words. You'd never spot outside a scrabble dictionary. It's only three ninety nine a one time purchase. There are scrabble variants like Lexus and works with friends, but classic scrabble players will object since they don't duplicate the traditional scrabble layout. If you want a timed game, go to I. S C Dot Aro, the Internet scrabble club. It's a rush, but not everyone loves the stress of a countdown timer.

Meg Whitman, CEO of Quibi: Leadership in crisis is about getting down into the trenches.

"Question I wanNA start off with is weakened asked all of the time by people in our audience who are thinking about taking their next step in their career and they always ask us about how should they think about joining startup and ward. Should they consider when making that decision you joined Ebay what was relatively small at the time? Watergate things that you've thought of back then given what it later on became. Yeah well I was at Hasbro running the Preschool Division. Which was Barney Arthur teletubbies? My personal favorite Mr Potato Head and I got a call to go. There's no name. Startup called Ebay. We were barely on the Internet in Nineteen Ninety Eight. We're doing email so it was really you know completely new horizon. It's hard to imagine where we sit today and I have no to the haven't her? I said definitely not doing this. What do you call back later? That makes should really think about it. You're hooked for Ebay so I went out and met with hero media who was the founder twenty six years old time and at the end of the day. I went out there mostly because I didn't WanNa make the head hunter math and I got to San Francisco airport that night and I called my husband and I said we should do and some of the things that I would look for in. Consumer companies are is there a features and functionality benefits? If it'll allow you to do something you couldn't do before so like in my proctor and gamble days later why's cleaner fresher breath And do doesn't is there an emotional connection and if you have both of those a consumer product Bingo? Pm? Many are told me that people have met their best friends on Ebay and they were deeply connected to this website. And so I saw something that is very unique you know and then I always look for. Who's the founder or the CEO who is on board of directors? How well is the company funded? What is the consumer need that this new idea is delivering and it can be a B. Two B. Customer or the customer? But I always go to seamer going to think about this. You know in the end you jump into the abyss honestly and you have to ask yourself. What's the worst thing that lettuce like one of the craziest things that happened or something when you look back at those early days and Ebay they were like oh I did not think we are going to get through this well? I'll tell you one funny story in the recruiting process. And then I'll tell you the thing I worked wasn't sure we'd get through so when I went out to interview with Pierre and was super glad because I got to this office building and there was a receptionist and for some reason the fact that they had a receptionist to seem like it legitimized the country. Nothing I was very relieved my first day at work. I go in and where the the receptionist she used to sit. There was never sections. There was no desk. Don't make sure no receptionists. Go about my day and I sit down. I'M GONNA cube next year about. Halfway through the day I said appear what happened to the receptionist. They looked at me and he said Oh. We hired her for the day because we were pretty sure that we had a receptionist. He wouldn't think we were like big enough for legitimate enough to come work for and say well how right you were so the biggest thing that happened at Ebay that I wasn't sure we would recover from is on June tenth nineteen ninety nine. We had a twenty two hour outage for twenty two hours. You could not get to the website. Think about this. We had all these fires all these sellers. Nothing could happen. The CNN truck was parked outside of Ebay. Wanting hourly updates on the status report was it was the most frightening thing I've ever seen because we really did not know what had happened as it turned out. We have corrupted the entire back end database and took us twenty two hours to read about two hours before we brought the site backup. I looked at here and I said well. We can't bring this back up and he said don't worry right about now. Db database administrator will come running in here and they'll tell us what they found and that they're about to bring back up and I looked up here. Yeah okay. That's wishful thinking literally as if on cue about ten minutes later a DB Guinness Okay. Site is coming up. I mean obviously. That's hugely stressful. And an example. That's clearly marked in your memory. What are you like in a stressful situation? How do you react when stressed? Yeah I dive in really deep because I think leadership in crisis is about getting down into the trenches by actually slept at Ebay for over a month. Wait what yeah my system to get cops. You slept at Ebay for a month. Yes because I was sort of just have to be there like port of leadership. I was not a very deep technology executive at the time. I'm much deeper from a technology perspective today and so the only thing I could do was to be by being there lead by taking the temperature of the engineers leave by making sure all of our partners. Cisco OR VERA sign or Sun Microsystems. Were all on board to help us and so I figured that I really just couldn't leave. Because the thing was so unstable. We had a girl confrontations conference room and we use the bathrooms so when I'm fascinated by is obviously this was over twenty years ago. Workplaces look very different today. Era Trying to look different today. There's a huge movement around wellness and avoiding burnout in protecting employees from. Burn out when you look back at those days and the decision to sleep there. Would you make the same decision today? Absolutely one hundred percent because you know when there's and this was truly a crisis this was not just like sort of something that happened. This was really a crisis I mean the future of the company was at stake air and you know people have different leadership styles from my leadership style. It was absolutely the only thing to do. He considers no substitute for being there to say the truth is on the whole face. It's not at headquarters and the call was are not our network operation center and so to be there with the engineers talking to the vendors and partners just made all the difference. You know. We're interviewing you right now in a crazy time in our world where nobody is in the office now and leaders in you know us. Included are trying to figure out how to be strong. Ceo's how to be strong managers and how to show leadership them curious like you. Are you know in new leadership role at a new company However you being there. How are you showing that you're digging in? You can't physically be there. I feel like I live on zoom and we do too and I'm trying to drop into meeting. So my management style in the workplace is by walking around. I mean especially with a company of two hundred and fifty people like you know everybody above ground. See People go up to their desk. See what's happening so now. I'm dropping into meetings that I'm not actually necessarily invited to per se. Sometimes I just listened this Friday. We're doing it a company meeting on slack Which we have planned. I had breakfast with Nag which I did once a week. Which literally was breakfast with Mac? So we're still doing breakfast with meg only as coffee with MEG. And Its bring your own so we're just kind of keeping up some of those things I just got off the slack chat with women in the workplace at pretty and You know just spend half an hour answering questions from our women employees which by the way about fifty one percent of our companies. When you mentioned earlier that you become a much more technically proficient leader curly and I do not have a tech background. We certainly understand what it's like to check in with engineers and show up and show support without necessarily knowing the INS and outs of what they're talking about. How did you start to dive in to that skill set? I think for a lot of people. It can be intimidating but doing it. I mean honestly. There was no substitute for being there when the website went down. I mean just by sitting there listening to what they're talking about asking questions understanding what's happening understanding you know. Actually what a back. End Database actually does and what is corrupted what happens so it was really being there and asking questions. I think those of us who do not have a technology background you just have to ask questions and interestingly when I first started asking questions I thought they're just going to think I'm not smart. Or what the heck am I doing here if I if I add value from a tech perspective and in a funny way but I've found. Is that engineer? Plug to tell you about what they're doing and so. I just learnt by asking questions by doing it was completely on the job training for those ten years and then a different kind of tech at. Hp is that is that was big. Iron servers storage networking. Pretend trying new. Nothing about And so I just out below questions you obviously. Dramatically changed the trajectory ebay. Under your tenure. It became an enormous team generated. Billions of dollars in revenue. When you think back to what that did for you and we're going to dig into the next parts of your career. What do you think your core skill set is? What are you best at? People have sort of a core competency I think at my core I am a strategist and a market and probably on a strategist because my really my first job after Fangio was banned so I was trained in cost customers. Competitor Sustainable Competitive Advantage financial architecture. And so I think my core competency is probably strategy and I have a belief that if you had to rate strategy and less than perfect execution he'll be okay. If you have the wrong strategy and perfect execution you will not be okay and so I think that's probably my first company. See my second is from my training at PNG. Probably is marketing. Just been a marketer. You know almost sort of as a domain expert my whole life

Zoom and MikMak

"Welcome back to season two of zeroed IPO. Today we have a very exciting couple of entrepreneurs on the show. Rachel typical graph the founder of Mick Massey founder and CEO who was called by Entrepreneur magazine one of the fifty most daring entrepreneurs and we also have eric yuan the founder and CEO of Zoom. Which as we all know has grown into a beam of video conferencing. Yeah I think what's very interesting? Here is both enterprise software entrepreneurs one who is earlier in her journey another one who is later on in his journey. He's gone public taking it public but still has a lot of memory about what it was like to be at her stage so. I think this is going to be very very interesting. Let's introduce our guests grey. Eric Yuan is the CEO and founder of Zoom and has grown zoom into a little bit of a big company. I think it's very small compared to what you're going to become. That's how he thinks about it right down. Eric started the company in two thousand eleven and appealed last year and at the IPO. The company had a market cap of a little over nine billion now less than a year later. It's at twenty one billion on the public markets. Tha that's more that's more more a little bit more. That's great that's growth node and never look at him. I never let's right notice. This market cap is not sustainable revenue. Would you talk about the revenue growth? Revenue growth is very impressive. It's about on the order of about one hundred percent year over year kind of up on a six hundred plus million dollar revenue year consensus estimates. We're not seeing anything out of the ordinary here. That is very impressive. And when you can see that kind of growth that kind of scale that's something. That's very exciting. Well before we go any further. I want to introduce Rachel. Tipo graph the CEO and founder of MIC MAC which is a fast growing startup. And there's a lot of things I want to ask you about and talk to You. About part of the purpose of this show is to hear from you about how you're growing the company. What your hopes and aspirations for at our and any kind of obstacles that you see ahead that perhaps not me but the other two leaders of public companies might be able to chime in with some experience. Let me ask you to describe MC MAC for our listeners and talk a little bit about what the company does share so mic. Mac were a marketing ECOMMERCE platform fortune. Five hundred brands license our software to better understand their consumers by connecting digital invest minced. Online retail insights. So essentially when I put a dollar into facebook what does that mean for my performance at Walmart for example so my clients span. Campbell's Hasbro Lego L'OREAL Nestle essentially. If you sell it Amazon Target Walmart you will become my client because you live in darkness with retail data. Let Me Brag a little bit about you. If I may at age twenty four you became the global director of digital and social media at gap which seems pretty young to have that role. I wasn't doing much of anything at twenty four. I think I was taken out the mail for running that role at gap at the time. But then you walked away from that to start this company out of your apartment. I believe in Brooklyn that must have been a difficult decision similarly Eric. You had a big role at Webex. You were leading the engineering team. You had hundreds of engineers. You said your wife. Hey I think I need to go start this company. And she didn't like the idea yes. She's sort of an online at likely. That idea by almost field to graduate was twenty. Four years ordered the three of us. Degenerates Rachel Rachel? With killing by the way the other thing that I love about what I've heard about your career is Gary Chuck who was an investor. My company and I believe invested in yours describes you as a fucking gangster quote unquote and lucky to have his support. Let's talk about MC MAC and the growth of online video and the commercialization of online video. Obviously Eric has a massive video business. What you're trying to do with mic-mac some people describe it as infomercials for the web. I've heard the term mini-martial Did you come up with that may I coined? Yeah and the idea is that it was very hard before mic-mac to see video and buy something you had to jump through hoops. And the bounce rate was like above ninety percent when you click through and now with mic-mac the bounce rate comes down to often like just ten percent right and a thesis of MIC. Mac was I was a gap. I was seeing the growth of video. I was seeing the change in the customer journey so gap Dot Com. The home page was the most traffic web page when I started when I left the product. Detail pages were seen five. X. Amount of traffic so all of a sudden all of these landing pages were actually becoming the heartbeat of conversion but no senior leader was paying attention to them and then finally the rise of Amazon so the early signs at the major retailers were about to become new wall gardens. And if you talk to major. Cpt brands they would be investing hundreds of millions of dollars whether is in digital video social paid search programmatic and having no idea what the outcome was on the other side. So in your case you have this insight and you know it's a good insight. I'm going to start a company but you leave a massive company and now you're this tiny little entity all by yourself and you have your your powers. You have the insight that the bravest lady in the Roman. You're like little little the honest truth. We said we tell the truth. And you have these massive companies that could easily swoop in and take your idea like talk to us about. How do you navigate that? And I want to hear also from Eric because he was in the same boat as you leaving Webex. Yeah it starts with an insight. That's not the hard part. The hard part is executed and initially. My competitor advantage right is speed to market. I'm nimble I can move faster fast. Forward all of a sudden I start proving myself and then other companies begin to pay attention. Because obviously if I'm successful must mean that there's a larger opportunity out there. How did that make you feel what was your reaction to the you know? The encroachment potential encroachment. My first reaction was. This is a good thing because you don't want to be a lone ranger business. It means you're you're not doing something to market if you're the only one marquette so I was excited I'm like yeah like competition bring it on but then when you look at the size of those companies so I currently thirty employees my competitors have upwards of five thousand employees. Then you start to get a little bit scared because they could put you know. Fifty salespeople against the southwest territory and then no one at Kirk Dr Pepper. We're GonNa talk to me and those are. The dynamics began to change for me last year. Which was a like. I got a suit up. Because there's people who can be louder and market right now. I still have the utmost confidence in my product. I have most confidence in my ability to lead but the reality is that they're bigger than me. Eric talked pretty shortly to catch up. Because speed everything up today have thirty. You may not know in five years. Probably have five thousand or six thousand you know more than your competitors as

Bengals at the Combine in Indianapolis, taking a closer look at Joe Burrow

"With us here from Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis where we will be all week so much going on. I'm waiting next with Adam. Schefter Louis Riddick Todd mcshay and Mike Tannenbaum just to catch you up right now. Here's what's happening today in Indianapolis. It will be a very busy week. At Five o'clock eastern though owners are expected to meet players to talk about the new CBA which could expand the playoffs and move to a seventeen game regular season. We've got forty seven. Nfl head coaches and GMT. We'll be talking today. You're also hear from SEC. Standouts Joe Borough and to a ton of Aloha who also addressed the media earlier today. Jonesboro put on an absolute show as you know on route to a national championship for Lsu setting an FBI. Single season record with sixty touchdown passes and Ditto. While completing a whopping seventy six percents of his passes and not only that but bro won the heisman trophy in dominant fashion receiving a record ninety point seven percent of the first place votes here. Our previous comments from Joe Borough on February seventeenth during a reception. For the Davey. O'brien award. He had this to say I do have leveraged the Bengals have their process and I have my process. We haven't even gotten to the combine yet. There's a lot of things that happened. Leading up to the draft. A lot of information gathered bras. Mother Robin shot down the idea. Her son does not want to play for the bengals. Saying we have no idea where that came from. It's a story out there that has created that doesn't have any substance at least from our perspective here Hasbro earlier today here at the combine. Of course I want to be the first pick. That's that's every kid's dream you know I've worked really really hard for this opportunity and I'm blessed to be in this position. I'm a ball player. Whoever picks me on my go show up? How play whoever for forever dressing? You know. I'm just not going to be presumptuous. About what they WANNA DO I. It's the draft. You guys have been covered it for a long time and you never know what's going to happen so we played a month longer than everyone else and everyone else's been training a month longer than us you know. I wanted to put. I don't I didn't think I'd be able to put my best foot forward here at the combine so I wanted to wait till pro day had another whole month of training and just be the best that I could be when everyone when. Everyone's eyes are on me. You know coming in. If you're the number one pick the teen is picking number one. Is there for a reason? So you're going to have to come in. There's going to be ups and downs and you've got to stay steady through the process. Our research tells us about Joe. Borough is his own man. He's not going to be talked into saying things for other people's benefits so if that's what he said. That's that's fantastic. I'm looking forward to getting to know him getting to meet him through. The process haven't been able to sit down with them yet. But we've got that on the horizon. We'll talk more about Joe. Boroughs plans to hold off throwing here at the combine. But might I'll start with you in terms of do you want? Do you not want to play for the being. You have any issues at all with where we landed at least at this point. No I mean as I said last week Joe Borough at the end he does not have leverage. The bengals have the first pick in the draft. If they want to draft. Joe Joe Borough. That's where he's GonNa go now with that. Said I think it's incumbent upon sack Taylor in the Bengal organization to create the Right Environment. Where he could come in and they could build something sustainable and truly transformative so. I think where we wended. Wendy is appropriate last week. He could've handled that better but to Joe Boroughs credit. I think they tweak things I think they're in a good spot now. He's been well-coached past week. Tower doesn't it. Yeah and Adema to your Do All your contacts. It appears that borough likely young he's projected pick. I still think that's where the bengals ultimately go. And they're sitting there and that's about this a team that needs somebody to revitalize that franchise and they are expected to look to trade Andy Dalton at some point this off season and so when you're sitting there in division with Lamar Jackson there in Baltimore think that they know that they have to get somebody in there. That's going to put some points on the Board Baker Mayfield Cleveland and this is going to be the pick for the Cincinnati bengals. Even Joe was considering trying to exercise some kind of leverage really the only leverage you have is withhold your services and not playing not report even if he was thinking along those lines. Let's say he's doing a deep dive trying to figure out exactly. Just what the Cincinnati offer as far as developing me as a quarterback. Could you blame him? Could you really blame him for wanting to dig? Deep on exactly what? What does the future going to look like during over the course of my rookie contract with this football team would exactly? What exactly is Mike Brown's commitment to go ahead and building out this roster around me because we all know a lot of what's going to happen to him has nothing to do with him and has everything to do with everything that's going to be around him. Just look at the past three or four drafts. And how certain players have benefited from going to certain to certain teams? Just look at l a look at the difference between jar rookie year in his second year. Sean mcvay came in. It flipped his rookie year. People were saying Jared Goff to Canada. All of a sudden his second year is like. Oh wait a minute. Maybe he's not so bad you couldn't blame him. If that was a thought Lewis to that point I also think an opportunity. If you're Zach Taylor to say hey what's happened in the past. It's irrelevant we're going to myself with you and we're going to build something great and we can't worry about what's happened before we have a lot of work to do. But if I'm the bengals if I have a hey coach Taylor. That's worked with quarterbacks. Like you mentioned Jared Goff Joe Boroughs Billy and character. That's a great opportunity for the bengals. Sino three things one. Is that if something were to go on with. The bengals is not going to happen in public and this has been addressed in the past week if it's going to happen behind the scenes so whatever we hear from this point on. Don't even don't even look at it. Don't think about it because it has nothing to do with with what is going on behind the scenes. The second thing is this guy's different cab he beats. It goes a Beatles drummer. He doesn't care what anyone else has done. In the past what everyone else is GonNa do in the future? He's going to do what's best for Joe Borough but the third thing I know about him is he's a football guy he's his. His brothers played linebacker at safety at Nebraska. His Dad's a almost four decades coach in football. He's a football guy at its core. He's from Ohio. Obviously I think when it's all said and done he winds up going in Cincinnati if he's number one overall pick but again. If it's GonNa Happen it's GonNa Happen. Not In the media. It's GonNa happen behind the scenes again. Joe Bro not expected to throw on Thursday. He said he just wasn't ready yet. Not a huge deal. Sam Darnold Kyla Murray. The last two years have opted not to throw here at the combine as well. What did make headlines on Sunday? Oddly enough pros hand measurements the measurable quarterbacks took place on Sunday on the smaller side. Love listen here's what he said after it was suggested his aunt size was small considering retirement after. I was informed that we slipping out of my tiny hands. Please keep me in your thoughts while he's got good company because here's what Super Bowl fifty four. Mvp Patrick Mahomes had to say who had just slightly larger hands than did borough my small Andrew doing great so far all right he should say believe in yet. Here's borough earlier today addressing his hands. Yeah I mean these measurements you can. You can take so much from them if it's a glaring issue on film with turnovers. Yeah it's probably an issue but I didn't have a lot of fumbles or anything like that so I just tried to make a little joke out of it I think it's a non factor I don't get paid to talk about. Measurements and analyze. The measurements like played to play football. So that's what I'm GONNA do. I look we're not gonNA make too much of this question. Well yet about what? They actually do what they're actually measuring here so worry not. We've got a ruler. We've got Louis at. I mean really what you're really trying to do is just trying to measure the expense of someone and they put it down on the ground and you actually hear about guys actually doing hand exercises to stretch their hand as wide as possible although when you're grabbing a football you're actually going to measure from the tip of the thumb to the tip of the Pinky here and this is hard because this is a hard rule and you can't really get good accurate measuring you look tired type by just under nine right. Look I'll give you a non center's Oh that's attention and would have actually done something with my. I mean what's interesting when you watch the tape of Joe Borough? There are situations where people come from behind strip him when he's trying to move up in the pocket and run. I mean that's going to happen if you have nine if you have ten inches so I mean it's not a glaring obvious problem as far as him on the football field and that's why I think it's really. It's just going to be something that will hopefully wind up forgetting about certain the biggest thing is and you know this with all of these drills you know as well. Mike you go back to the tape and you're trying to find something after the fact that says okay. Now I'm going to look specifically at these things so you're gonNA look cold weather rain and then ball security and Joe Boroughs as good as any college quarterback you're ever going to see in the pocket in terms of two hands on the ball and protecting the ball. I saw him in two thousand eighteen the last weekend. In September against Ole Miss. You can go back and watch the tape. My suit was soaking wet when I did the open of that game. It was pouring rain driving rain in anyone who says it doesn't rain in Baton Rouge on a Saturday night is lying to you. Because it poured and he completed seventy two percent of his throws with three touchdowns and zero interceptions in that game. So you go back to the tape and you try to look at these things and what the tape tells you is. He's just fine. You know I had a theory here. I have an interesting experience with hand size so I was forced out in two thousand eight. We were we trade for Brett Farve and just as a fan of sport. I can't wait to go out to the first practice and watch Brett farve throw. There's nothing physically imposing about breath and he goes out there and he's throwing Abe I've ever seen and I ask them like what is the value. Where's this philosophy comes from it? He said you know what Mike I have long fingers and I actually couple of football the way a lot of people throw a softball. I could actually be over the top and that's where I get all my philosophy from just watching my practice. It was unbelievable to watch though. I know as Lewis show. There's a tradition of how we measure hands but finger. Length is actually an underrated aspect of playing quarterback so far so far small hands but long fingers and you know what my pinky and all the time strong throwing football pictures of the five. It's easily the least important finger in the hand and I can't remember it ever being a big factor. It's all there in the grip. The pinky to me doesn't matter. It's archaic. How we're measuring the quarterback's hand span now with that. Said there's thirty four quarterbacks in the last fourteen years who have been drafted that have had hands of nine inches and smaller and really only two of them had any sort of Sustained Success Ryan. Tannehill is one of them and Jared. Goff is the other. That's it so there are thirty two out of thirty four. Who have failed. But are we going to say that he's going to the Joe Boroughs? Not GonNa have success because his hands tells me that the reason for their failure wasn't because they were nine inches weight.

"Yeah yeah if they produce shattered grid as a netflix series or even as a one shot animated movie or something like that i'd be down for that i would love to see it as a as a netflix series honestly i mean they're so much money to be made there or if like hasbro could like i said adapt so many things from it or i'm curious to see where they'll take beast more i what toys will come out of that because you know those toys are already being tooled up right now i know they're still casting the show right now but you know zords arrayed ago the action figures that don't show the actress faces are already being tooled so i imagine we'll see product look at hasbro at least in my experience you always see toys being leaked a few months before fair oh you'll see hasbro power toys leaked probably in the next couple of months if not sooner in that's that's one of the wonderful things about hasbro's a lot of that information comes out sooner just because the hasbro fan base of whatever tweet franchise that they have is practically all over it when it comes to any kind of news that comes out of that company and i mean they're one of the biggest toy retailers in the in the world i mean you got mattel in there too but i mean those are pretty much the two juggernauts and mattel they hold a portion of the power and his license but i guess they don't anymore because they had the imagine x megastore dragonzord and the white tigers or so i guess that licenses now reverted the hasbro i guess i'm not entirely sure on that i knew that bandai namco had.

"Collector scale beit masterpiece or transformers or the legacy line from power rangers i'm very curious to see what's going to happen i can't see hasbro shutting out the collectors but hasbro primarily markets the kids it just so happens that hasbro toys that are built for collectors are some of them are pretty cool for kids like you look at some of these titans return figures those marketed towards lake in a sense like us midmarket basically hasbro has like three different tiers they have like the very simplistic designs they have the ones that are geared towards their more adultish series i'm michelle obama and then they hit linked or masterpiece line and then whatever happens to come out in between like for for the films and for timelines of universe kind of his legacy figures and the they have the many moving parts going on between them depending on what's going on in the media so it'll be interesting to see what they do as far as the toys with with them producing them incident bain donate vandamme co or whatever it is the company that produces them but the other thing too is we could end up seeing a more kid like more kid friendly in a more adult version of power rangers kind of further separating the lines of what we have now yeah i mean if you told me they would produce something that was equal to their legacy line but something a little bit more adultish ib all four like if you told me they could produce a trying to think what might be really good.

"Oh no that is playmates not hasbro but they w has ninja turtles yeah so i'm curious to see what will come out of this now seeing transformers crossover with powering yours to me seems like a no brainer i guarantee a we'll see something mocked up by toiv err next february guaranteed also if you would have put a ranger helmet on my little pony figure guaranteed sell some ponies that way like if you had pinkie pie up as the pink ranger that sells itself virtually there so many possibilities to cross bram between boys and girls now they can expand the the brand out i'm curious to see what it means for other toil lines like for example hasbro owns nerf if you told me i could get a mighty morphin blade blaster that shoots little nerf dirt's or like when they have beast more fers i'm there's going to be parring nerf guns i assure you that we are injured nerf weaponry like probably the power sword and all that stuff from mighty morphin or whatever that would be a no brainer honestly with that like there's so much stuff you're plus hasbro's animation most of the original mighty morphin cast is still around and still active doing stuff if you told me if you wanna make money you make a net flicks or whatever series animated you do boomers comics shattered grid if you did that in animated form with as many people as you can get obviously you can't get three trying because she passed away but if you got everybody to come back for say thirteen episodes put it on net flex or put it on hulu or something you have made so much money you are laughing all the way to the command center like it's it's stupid how much money you could possibly make off this and that's another thing too i mean one of the other things i wonder about power more for con is this huge.

"The one office here uh but sometimes you just need to grow or don't have a longterm plan settled on yet uh looks like they're putting it together longterm plan to get everybody in into one building if they can pull it off hasbro had as you said has made overtures to mattel add that mattel has resisted to this point a year from now do you think this deal has gone through because and and i don't have a dog in this fight but i i i'm not really sure if i should be rooting for this merger or not uh presumably if the price is right than that works out well for mattel shareholders but i don't know i kinda like that there's the competition out there and i also like to see new ceos get a chance to turn the company around in and that's the case of mattel i mean the ceos been there less than a year and i feel like she should have a chance to i don't know implement her vision for what success looks like a mattel well so mattel just the other day dago reported that uh it is anticipating a disappointing holiday season and while as one might imagine the holiday season is kind of kind of important for a toy maker and hasbro's made no such a announcement and i think that mattel this is another in an ongoing series of disappointing announcements from mattel and i think when you ask uh you know can i speculate will this be done in a year from today hasbro's a wellrun company they're not gonna overpay uh did they've made a and offering mattel's rejected it but if mattel thinks they're going to get more money they may be right but it they think they're gonna get more money than they're worth uh i think they're wrong and i think that there.

"All air hogs that garang create the the tv shows in the movies and then the characters in the games to go along with it on also owners of sketch an you know for some throwback games but a unique keep growing imagination of these kids trying to compete with ipads and things like that but certainly a long tail uh trend that were big fan seven in the canadian market we've chosen to go a spin master uh in that regard this move by hasbro doesn't surprise me it would surprise me if it was the reverse just because uh margo george janas who's the ceo at mattel she got there in january and everything i've read about her uh just sort of struck me as okay this is this is certainly an upgrade in the corner office at mattel and i just figured give her at least a year maybe even two years before you too as we would any c itoh so if this was a move by metab by her and her board that would surprise me i think has railways smart to make this move now in this regard that they might look at her and think pay before she gets a chance to really impact the culture number of things of this might be the weakest point they're going to get as long as she there she's there so let's go now yeah and the enemy chicoms from google so she has certainly i think positive exposure on the culture side certainly a tech background that can help mattel at this point so yeah i think you're right in that they're looking at mattel right now as a company that is uh down but not out in in it doesn't mean that they can't turn this renningen they do have some popular brands out there but they have put themselves in a bit of a bind up financially in in in again when you look at i mean this is a business that is one hundred percent lever to the consumer any retail environment that is just really scary right now in in they have they they have not made the investments in technology that they've needed to make a whereas hasbro has up so again you either adding hasbro's probably looking at mattel seen a company in a position of weakness they certain.

"You you have mattel the digits clearly it up the company in a position of weakness in that didn't happen overnight right i mean honestly this was set up by former leadership binding brian stockton a was a bigger part of the problem probably you know some people like to admit but he was he was fired for reasons i mean it routed even question as to whether he was fired initially abut but aj actually did commencing up he was fired you know he just he wasn't getting done end up i mean there was a culture problem the company certainly it it it seemed that they were failing to innovate at a pace up which kept them up with sort of the changes that technology is is implemented on the market in the enemy not i'm not saying it's easy ride emanates not clearly it's not in them but that's what you get paid big bucks for the can't do it than you need to step aside conversely when you look at hasbro i mean they have really been investing a lot in in sort of finding new ways to uh leverage there ip their toy properties through partners like disney um i i think that really the loss of that disney deal from its l was sort of the beginning of the end if this deal happens that's great honestly though the thing is i am i really am not convinced that hasbro needs this headache i mean at the end of the day it gives them some valuable property some valuable brands but i mean mattel is a mess of a company i mean there there are culture problems there are financial problems i mean there's a point now where this debt is you can't ignore it i mean operating income doesn't even cover their interest expense a threetimes over this point so it could be a lot of headaches if it has burt assad staked his own yeah this is one space we really like in stock of utter care would just recommended uh 'cause i can better spin master which owns brands such as popovich.
