Why J.P. Moreland Wrote 'A Simple Guide to Experience Miracles'
"JPMorgan welcome. It's so good to be with you, my brother. Thank you for lifting the tone of this conversation by not being me. I'm going to do my best to let you talk. Honestly, I'm thrilled to talk to you, but I'm more thrilled to talk to you than I would even normally be because you've written a book titled a simple guide to experience miracles, instruction and inspiration for living supernaturally in Christ. Many people think that one is either some kind of an intellectual theologian or the kind of Christian believes in miracles. You and I know that's nonsense. But I'm glad to show that that's nonsense by having you on the program as the author of this book. When did you decide to write this book and why? Well, I began to do a study of the book of acts of fresh and the first four centuries of the church to see what they emphasized in trying to build disciples, and they were world changers. And I discovered three things, Eric. First, they valued people learning what they believe and why they believe. So the cultivation of a Christian mind, secondly, they emphasize principles of discipleship and character formation, centering around the tender, Hartford Jesus, but finally, there is no doubt that they emphasize the manifest power of the kingdom of God on behalf of the name of Jesus. And today, we have lost sight of that in western culture.

"Bizarre. Mental behavior is happening where you look at people. in connecticut. Hartford are in twenty twenty one. They are hard to realize fans. And how does that jive you know teams about to be twenty five years outside of the nhl and not did not exist for we'll have not existed for twenty five years on april thirteen. Twenty twenty two and people in hartford are going to celebrate it and they're going to celebrate the team and so obviously peter criminals wanna know part of the wailers brand. Tom dunton wanted a big part of the railway friend. I think it is a. I think it's just one more unique element of the story because the fact that the team in hartford that doesn't exist is more popular than the team that is brand wise on the ice or or certainly when they pulled the whalers jersey out of the to your your your analogy to. They pulled it out of the the attic. You know the people in carolina told me straight up. They said we were. We were not branding. We were not at brand in the nhl that we had the leaders of this and tom dunbar team and models wouldn't obviously i said he gave hartford and he told me straight up he didn't like seeing the wailers jersey on the ice and i'm sure there's bitterness there for that but they they use it they. They have been out of the playoffs ten years and they felt they needed a marquee night to grab the attention of the nhl and they did it. On december twenty third two thousand eighteen and john forestland was fortunate to speak with for the book. Who you know the great voice alveda seattle cracking. And the you know who called games in hartford who call games carolina Said they needed right. Rogers said they did right and and it was. It was but at the same time to your point. I tend to think the hartford whalers somehow live just in hockey fans in general because they you know whatever your rationale for putting on putting on willie's jersey for putting on a whaler t shirt for you know flaring brass also known as evening beat The official title of the song by Jock say it's a You know you're you're doing it for a nostalgic element. And i think that's where the will is will live assuming they're not gonna come back to to play in the nfl. I would say you know. And that's what i think. The people in hartford one. And that's where. I think i was thinking about it today. That the psychology of this is bad and and the alumni mentioned the alumni the high profile alumni guys like kevin dineen. Guys ron francis. Guys like joel quenneville. They met their spouses in connecticut..

"I would say probably did not advocate how this eighteen even raleigh north carolina Because these were things that were that were planning anyway because once they got other the johns it all started that in the nineties. They had a vision for the nineties. They wanted to to max out. Tv and they wanted to get new markets. And you look at some of the places where wayne gretzky toward and matt and mary utah toward and the rangers played some games. It played the kings in las vegas caesar's palace outdoors ninety one in the preseason. They went on a barnstorming tour in the preseason the way they played in miami where they played at phoenix playing sacramento. They haven't ninety three ninety four season where they had the the the The neutral site games in places like cleveland in sacramento and peanuts in milwaukee to sort of assess what markets worth expanding too. And i so. I don't think that. I don't. I would not label him the villain in this regard. I think the economics of hockey really just changed and it was a point. And it's it's ironic because if or if the whalers had weathered the storm pardon the pun had whether the storm of the nineties and gone through their side of of the revenue sharing salary cap Higher tv money Days of today they could donnelly play. They could thrive and you look at the penguins mentor and the sabers went through that and they were bankrupt and they were going to kansas city. Both of them are one of them was was destined for there but unfortunately the the three what teams didn't didn't last for whatever reason but But i would say the the whole paradigm shift really predates batman. He's quite the villain that people would label him out. Although gary bettman certain leaning into being a villain so Apparently call them. What whatever you you. what But i would say you know. Pardon the long winded answer. I would say no in terms of And his influence on getting not mad harmony all right so somewhat related and this is kind of a question. We tend to ask Folks for situations of teams that were previously domiciled even whole cloth completely different sort of brand identities and all that and the and the hartford whalers now know carolina hurricanes right certainly qualifies for this right and it it gets back to sort of hinted at earlier right is sort of how all of a sudden screaming over the last couple of years. Even the hurricanes have leaned in and some suddenly have remembered that there was a team called the hartford whalers and oh by the way it just happens to be an hour our attic. Right of family heirlooms. I guess the question in there is where in your mind. Does the hartford whalers franchise kind of live in the history of it and all the records and artifacts. Is it the official place. That is the history of the nhl and the team in carolina or would people sort of in the hartford area those who remember and those who still lament. It's passing and revere it's memories do you think a kind of really psychically really maybe still lives in hartford and maybe still hangs from the rafters of the excel centre. Somehow there's a question in there somewhere. What of the previous version of this franchise. It feels hollow to me when there's a retro jersey in carolina when it truly has nothing to do with hartford and frankly i think most people in hartford push back on on that franchise even claiming some relationship too hard. I was thinking about that today. I was thinking about this today. Because i was trying to figure. 'cause there's there's there's a definite psychology you know for for anyone looking for a thesis or a psychology To explore. there's definitely.

"First question was do. The team needs to move up. There's not a new arena. Enrolling says yes so they perceived that as a governor is kicking us out and that's when criminals really started to try to get out and and all of that but but also the fact remains the point is there was no. There was not civility in hartford and there was not going to be civility in hartford without a new arena. And an and you can't really dispute that because again the state had been so leveraged. I mean the western state was gonna see all of the the the alternate revenue streams that they already gotten and they were contractually liable to do that so they were you know taking all the revenue and it's there there is that i mean so there were some that perception of he's a liar and there is a perception of he came here to move the team. He's not he's not from connecticut. He's on the northeast from detroit And there is you know. Jeff jacobson great Columnist connecticut who covered the team for the hartford current. There is some pettiness there. Jeff told me that if you look up the last year's attendance for the whalers say thirteen thousand seven hundred about thirteen thousand seven hundred fans average per game the number of amd for all those tickets or the capacity was more than that was over. Fourteen thousand fourteen thousand five fifty six memory serves or fifteen thousand But it was about but the point is that karma didn't count the luxury box ticket soul. Because he didn't recoup the revenue on it because they all that box money went to the state. because gordon had celebrex Had been celebrities. That's what he negotiated. So karma does didn't count those that attendance the last year. And i mean it it stuff like that. I think rubs people the wrong way when and again caramels. A fiery guy. He's very emotional. He's very passionate he. He says he tried to make it work. He says the economics were were like. I said before that he was competing against the giants and the patriots and the yankees everywhere he turned. He couldn't get couldn't get anything you know. You couldn't get the cable tv deal because there have been negotiated. He couldn't get the new arena. And but but it's it's sad. Because i spoke with a government official..

"And and karmanos hates hartford Because it didn't work there in the government was was not did not play ball with him but But i think her mom is real. I was really happy. Speak with him because he's a he's a really unique figure in in hockey in the history of hockey because he's in the us hockey hall of fame. He's in the hockey hall of fame. He's you know he he. He was this first. Us owner of a of an ontario hockey league team. He bought the windsor spitfires. 'cause he's based in detroit outside right outside of windsor and he has this sort of he has this. It'd be these well respected by the hockey community. He's well respected in the united l. Gary beverage loves talks glowingly about it and yet for some reason. He moved his team from hartford carolina. And that doesn't stay any of it. You know he. I you know. I went to the Detroit suburbs to birmingham michigan interview peter models and he he pointed out in the us At the us hockey training center in plymouth plymouth michigan. He's as is right there. He again for his for his His great time. Owning the spitfires and developing the compuware program the youth program that became one of the standards in terms that were pioneer program in terms of becoming the standard of utah. And how things should be done developing young players and developing United states born talent. And again he is in the hockey all fan. And i and yet in hartford which again is so is also so beloved about hockey people. He's despised and you know he's persona grata You know people. He wouldn't get out of hartford if he went there and again it's he doesn't care but But i i think says he tried I don't believe people team to move it. Because if he did he would have bought team and moved it. I think I just think he's a he's a passionate emotional guy and he what he saw. He said he was. You saw government picking them out and it's weird to how they ended up in carolina because he wanted to.

"That he was he had consecutive hundred point seasons and he was their captain and he wanted to stay like you said he built the house And they they traded more. Kyle not only traded him but alienated him and then traded which Which mark how i mean. It was one of those things that again when mark allen. I spent the first time. I was not fully aware of what had happened with him with his with his injury. And then i was lucky enough to speak to them again. A few years like seven years later eight years later and it was. It was just fascinated to hear him talk about what he went through. Nearly dying on the ice and the fact that he was seventeen games with this after this grotesque injury where he went essentially the was was the the that the goal main tim i believe is a terminology on us And he missed seventeen games and he was terrible and then he gets you know and then they alienate him. They say okay. You don't want to be here. You don't really want you bathe your money. You should go retire. And he says okay. Well you don't want me here in the tree. And then they trade him to philadelphia becomes the hall of famer and And so that was the type of situation that they were dealing with it with the whalers and and again people were showing up for the games. you know the the because again it was harvard's home team and back in the early eighties. There wasn't quite the cable tv operation that there is now or even in the nineties that that there was You know pe- hartford to boston was a little felt a little bit farther higher to the rangers one a little bit farther New york people didn't want to go to new york in the nineteen eighties And so you know and there was a and you uconn basketball wasn't anywhere near the uconn. Football forget it so there was a big league in town people go see it and hartford and they wasted some of those years and it's unfortunate because i guess they were a great. You know you said you were right. And they were stable in the wj Although again they did change coaches almost every year in whm but there were playoff team every year. And they want you said. They wanted the championship the first year..

"Buying jerseys way cheaper than you know than supporting a team for forty nine year. And i think that's where the whalers live it's sort of this fascinate you know. People want people love the logo. People love the idea of our as a minor as a major league city. But i don't think the people in connecticut they'd rather just put the sweatshirt on or they'd rather just put the hat on or they you know as opposed to putting in the legwork to make the team exist against and we can also be a little bit more Clear eyed about sort of the years that they spent in hartford right. I mean a lot of their biggest games sell outs. Frankly were when they were playing the bruins or the islanders of the rangers right. Which are the natural geographical rivalries. Frankly some often populated by some of those fans that that either got priced out of tickets at their home arenas are just felt like it was within reach right but i you know you mentioned the small town thing right and i and i get the new england and connecticut sensibility about small town. We're not know local yokel types yet. It was the smallest market right. The smallest arena. I in that regard. But i also think too it feels to me like there was also sort of a And it certainly was the case on the ice during most of their nhl. Elliot's for example for sure was sort of this. Underdog kind of They were the only american franchise in the what that survived the merger right and just by that definition alone in seventy nine right. They already had to prove themselves. I mean like from the get go right and it wasn't i don't think the. Nhl lovingly embraced these teams. That came came across the threshold into the league. And obviously we'd strengthen and had a lot of positive effects right but you know in some respects i think hartford kind of you know was was not necessarily looked upon as being i i don't know a full-fledged assumed to be fledgling member of the nhl. I think it really kind of had to go out of its way to to prove itself despite some of its successes and stability ironically in the whm..

"But and i wrote this in the book you look at the original six. I already mentioned the bruins. The bruins are cash cow but y identity tradition. The rangers the lead. The maple leaves the canadians. The blackhawks real tradition right the edmonton oilers new york islanders You know some of the the more. The more recent dynasty teams penguins. They're tradit- their identity is winning. You know i mean has fallen on hard times the island. it's also but they have this sort of tradition of winning and that's their identity. You know And harper with the hartford whalers where they were not on the ice they were you know they were okay in the box office. Generally but you knew when they scored a goal. You're going to hear breath ends. You knew they were gonna take the brass bonanza and that they're going to be wearing green jerseys On the road. In the white jerseys at home which were which i love the white jerseys to And you knew that that this was just sort of identity was that there and again hartford. I said this is a bunch of times on media spots because harvard might as well be anywhere in the country and he's city in the country And i think the people of harper would take some of that but because they don't they wanna think hartford is a special place It's it's tied to the insurance industry. It's been the the essentially the insurance capital of the world For years and that's their major industry and and but and then also how how the whalers existed because they essentially had a when howard. I'm sure our told you this but When howard howard didn't have the money to throw to back the whalers and hartford is not a big enough market to have you know big tv Or big corporation but they had a conglomeration of corporations who fed money to the team and they got a percentage ownership of the team so aetna had us had an ownership stake in the team and the newspaper. The hartford current had one point. One percent stake ownership of the team. And so they had this. This sort of disagree bay packers style share thing where they were where the corporate community owned the team..

"So i think the proximity to boston and new york is a problem and i don't think anybody who is one of those things that you could say. Connecticut one hundred miles away or hartford is a hundred miles from boston. Had it's three. I drove it from new york to hartford in the in the in the summertime. It was three hours and that was through the traffic. So i that's not the the the distance is not a deterrent enough to keep people away and again these these teams are just some of the you know some of the biggest i mean. They're the oldest most deeply ingrained teams. And again you were competing against thirteen dollars at hartford when and when over the team was terrible to let's go back for a second though so there's one to me the word that strikes the reader when they see the cover of this book that i think really kind of everything hinges on it. And that's the word mystique what what is it. What was it and what is it. Lewd yeah all right. What is it. Then about this franchise that given what you've just laid out it economically it's questionable. If something like this can come back. We mentioned how successful the merchandise is. We'll get into the hurricanes and all that stuff a little bit later. But what is it about. And you're not even part of this mystique because you weren't around at the time per se and you weren't sort of involved in the story right so you don't even have any any affiliation. Were affinity if you will for this story. So what is it that that makes this the most popular jersey of any non existing team to still sell merchandise and why do people in this region and frankly the diaspora from this team. People add time at this team. Why do they still have an stock establish nostalgic fondness he says for this club what is it. What was it about this club. So i think.

"Gm the wheelers now but But no i haven't assure them and then you know as you build them credibility to trust these people It sort of snowballs in my writing. Got better and you know. And then i learned things. I learned to talk based because that was the other piece of this. That to me is fascinating. Is that i. I i like in my knowledge of the whalers before i started writing to the book to that of what i knew about the titanic. Before i saw the movie. I had sort of passing knowledge of it. I had this. You know well there was a team in hartford. They were really bad and then they moved. And you know. Like i said didn't it didn't grow up going to games at the civic center. Didn't grow up. Watching ron francis didn't grow up watching The the the great wailer teams or or you know going. The or listening to brass bonanza or living and dying with chuck and like so many connecticut people do. And that's why like. I said you know feels very surreal to becoming to this point because it was ten years to write started to finish The first interview with ten home with november. Second twenty eleven. I looked it up the other day and now october. Fifteen twenty twenty one. We're coming out and it's it's not exactly ten years but it's Nine years eleven mile and a half months roughly so but it it's been a ride and it's been remarkable and it's been fascinating and i just i'm excited to share with everybody and now you're on the precipice right as record this. We'll be dropping this this episode literally the week it's it's available so it'll be really interesting to see how people but having nibbled around this story previously with our conversation with howard baldwin. We've talked wailer guys still have their little. Tv local cable show. And i would say. And i think you kind of maybe set this up perfectly and that you are dispassionate to this story and most of the people that we've talked to were either involved with the story or have a homer slash rooting interest in this story. Which and a lot of cases right as fans of sports teams are and intensity A little myopic. But they have a certain lens right that they approach the story right so i- arguably you put yourself either wittingly or unwittingly i in a position to be objective. But let me ask you this as this story unfolded for you and as you learned about all the sort of characters and the situations around this story ten years in length god bless right that you stuck with it. Did you find yourself falling into sort of that hagiography or that sort of passion play so to speak or did you feel like you maintain some level of objectivity or a complete level of actively as you need to finish line. Yeah i have a soft spot for the whalers without a doubt there's no doubt I definitely believe in my actively that I you know..

"In carolina and our nhl fans generally didn't even know about this hartford whalers existence let alone its origins in the world. This thing called the world hockey association prior. So i mean i think the debate rages on it. I think frankly debate even in connecticut about how the team laughed. you know. Good riddance Now the third carolina did they do the right thing when when they won the stanley cup. In which is about a dozen years ago now and and not sort of. I guess bring it back if you will or more fully embrace hartford then when it occurred at all. It's a very intertwined complex set of emotions but it's certainly fascinating history nonetheless and pat pickens our guest. This week is here to help us. Scratch a little bit deeper than the surface into the history and the lower and the mythology and frank of the ongoing saga and story of. Let's call them the hartford whalers in our conversation coming up this very episode in just a few moments time fun and frivolity for all. And it's it's just it's a topic we love to keep going deeper on and we're happy to bring it to you again this week. In our conversation coming up in a moment's time how about a sponsor that will allow us to all celebrate and remember and and proudly emblazoned. Our memories of the hartford whalers. Let's go to royal retro dot com. Shall we royal retro dot com. The king of throwbacks. You may have formerly known them as 503 sports which is now a sub brand but they are now officially known as royal retro and row retro dot com as you probably know by now if you've listened to this show any of time obviously has great t shirts right so lots of great logos and stuff. They're fantastic of course. But as the name implies retro retro jerseys are one of the hallmarks of their offerings and in the realm of hartford whalers there are official guess. Nhl branded Where that you can get featuring the hartford whalers logo I know for certain that the carolina hurricanes are take very strong advantage of that and even with their their new throwback jersey Things i think adidas is doing There's those kind of permutations and you could buy this official things. That's fantastic good. Knock yourselves out but if you really want authentic original and meticulously crafted gear that would frankly put your Your friends to shame and frankly Allow them to kind of understand. Just how deep and original this inconsequential. Frankly this franchise was..

"In our episode number one hundred he the originator of this franchise back in w ha new england whaler days. Hopefully we get Howard back on the show to go deeper into some of the other exploits that we didn't get to in our first episode with him But those are highly recommended for your listening pleasure. In addition to this one we're gonna find a treasure trove of fun Stories and some anecdotes and a couple of little pieces of Of information info that you didn't know about before and you gotta get this book it's terrifically written and it gets in the whole bunches of things. Not only the history of the of the franchise in hartford and it's rocky Exit shall to not even directly to raleigh greensboro north carolina for two years and why ended up there and the frankly still relatively sore subject that you could sort of understand in that clip that we just played to you a a a little. Espn dalliance Back in Gee i think it was last year no earlier this year in december of twenty one december. Excuse me. I'm sorry february. That's get your year straight tim. Gee whiz february nineteenth two thousand twenty one. That was a little sportscenter segment. Featuring kenny mayne Carrim and linda cohn reminiscing. A little bit about The hartford whalers and really kind of putting their finger on the hot button of the nostalgia around it and shall we call it. The appropriation of the whalers legacy logo and all by the carolina hurricanes. If you've been following sort of the The story of their existence when they moved to carolina was complete whitewash. The hartford whalers were very much in the rear view mirror The team had moved. There were various reasons lot of course financial and economic and You know the nhl in its Own way right trying to keep moving southern and westward And in carolina. Right i completely new branding and You would never have known frankly that the team had been previously domiciled. Shall we say a couple of years ago strangely. Interestingly curiously some of the newer management type. they're starting to find something in the attic. During the move that that actually Poured portended or pointed to history prior. And this hartford whalers thing kind of came out of mothballs and was resurrected and embraced and somewhat cynically. Say for profit and dollars. You know. they're not dumb. I guess in terms of recognizing the sales of jerseys and and memorabilia around the hartford whalers still strong these twenty some years afterwards after the move to carolina and a resurrection if you will and a a a seemingly abrupt rediscovery of the hartford whalers team logo and jersey and all that kind of stuff and that segment. That's that senator said we kind of touched on it right. it's is a good thing Is it kind of a disc to hartford and kind of kick in the in the groin so to speak or is it or is it a positive development in that. Hey it's the history of this team and a callback frankly to probably for a generation of.

"We appreciate you. Stop it on by downloading us putting us in your ear buds however you are ingesting this week proceedings we cannot thank you enough and we're back into the fun story of yes. The hartford whalers the non nonexistent team jersey in the national hockey league. Yes despite the fact that the hartford whalers are now approaching almost twenty five years of not being in hartford but reconstituted as the carolina hurricanes the hartford whalers mythology and the history. The legacy the warm fuzzy feelings. All of those things still completely resonate not only in in connecticut and the hartford region but Among hockey fans generally and frankly around the world. I that this is a jersey. Not unlike the new york cosmos soccer jersey That can be seen despite teams not existing anymore worldwide. This is just a phantom for this team and we're gonna get into why that That mythology sort of exists with our guest. This week pat pickens. Who has a new book coming out. literally just came out a couple of days ago as we drop this episode. It is the first book devoted to the history and the The story of the of the whalers than the story is it's called the whalers the rise fall and enduring mystique could word mystique of new england's second in parentheses greatest nhl franchise and pats going to kind of get into A little bit of the story of how he came to To find This book that he couldn't find the book so he wrote it himself that's the old adage and day certainly can't came through a ten year odyssey to put this book together and we'll find out why and how and and the reasons and the rationale behind all of it but obviously it's the story about the the will is it something that we've nibbled at A bit in previous episodes We certainly highly commend either prior to listening this episode or as a supplement to it a couple of episodes two in particular Jerry peter the whaler guys episode number sixty two. I think they're still going at it with their tv show and in that sort of ongoing. Hope that Somehow harford will be made whole again with another nhl franchise or the return of the wheelers somehow some way and of course our extraordinary interview with the.

"Running lynette. Just tell my audience if they don't you know aren't familiar with you. What what. what is your ministry ron. What is your story lynette. What are you because because both of you are really active but a lot of people listening program might not know you sure. Well as you mentioned. Eric we've been friends for a long time and i had had it in my heart to move to new york city when it was getting it in my late thirties. And so i got a transfer with my job. Worked for deloitte and touche big big consulting accounting firm found myself in new york city only knew one person and she happened to be a mutual friend of yours and mine and over the course of the next couple of years Made friends with you and others and we were doing life together and then nine eleven happened. I should have been in the middle of the whole thing that morning. I went to work in those buildings every morning. This is the stuff i forget. I literally forgot. This is a huge story. And i completely forgot that you were supposed to be there that day. Yes yes and what's amazing to me is. I woke up that morning with laryngitis. Total aaron jarvis leading a meeting I was in marketing for the firm. meetings that led for my total of eight years being with the firm. And it's the only meeting in eight years. And i did these meetings all the time that they didn't have space in the world financial center to have the meeting. I tried for months to schedule it and finally a month or two before the partner i worked with said. Let's just go to hartford connecticut. We'll get we'll get an office up there and it was strange to me why we couldn't do it where we always did it But on the morning of nine eleven. I woke up with total aaron jarvis. Henri Now a Tropical Depression as Flooding Danger Remains
"Continuing unleashed downpours over a region already saturated by heavy rain. Earlier today. The storm was located about 10 miles southwest of Hartford, Connecticut, was expected to produce heavy rainfall and flooding across areas of New England, New York, New Jersey and northeast Pennsylvania. Through tonight and into early tomorrow. Connecticut governor Ned Lamont says even though Andrea has been downgraded, people still need to take it seriously. Don't get complacent. Uh, As I said before, Sandy, I see those were not hurricanes, either because the terrain is so wet. You do have just a 40 50 or not dust. Knocks over trees, and that's why we're watching the power outage situations so carefully. In Tennessee, at least 22 people are dead and many more missing. After record setting rain caused devastating flooding that swept away homes up to 17 inches of rain fell in less than 24 hours, setting a new one day record for rainfall in the state. Thousands Without Power as Tropical Storm Henri Makes Landfall in Rhode Island
"You. You're welcome. The other emergency president Biden addressed was tropical Storm angry. It made landfall earlier today in Rhode Island very close to the Connecticut border. The storm is making its way through Connecticut, and while it has caused flooding and left thousands without power It appears to be going better than anticipated. Connecticut Public Radio's Frankie Graziano follow the storm along the Connecticut shoreline today, and he is with us now. Welcome. Thank you for joining us. Thank you for having me. So what's been Andris impact there? So I would have to say that more than anything on Reed's been a bit of a nuisance in Connecticut, and the fact that there has been some flooding a major highway and interstate 91 in Connecticut near the Connecticut River was shut down for flooding. And some homes in eastern Connecticut have dealt with power outages, but in the aggregate, I would say in the last few days Ever source who was a major power company here said that they expected up to 69% of their customers could lose power. The actual numbers in the last hour that I've looked only around 2%. So certainly some good news there and that maybe the storm wasn't as bad as something and expected it to be. Well. That's good news. So the National Hurricane Center called for strong, gusty winds and flooding ahead of the storm. How are the roads looking now in Connecticut? Yeah, So right now, there's actually a soft rain falling in Hartford, the capital. So as I was down in southeast Connecticut on the shoreline, uh, earlier today in the afternoon, it was actually sunny and the roads were dry so Now as it's moving through Connecticut. As I mentioned, there's a soft rain. It's moving into northwest Connecticut as we speak. But earlier today again, there was a lot of concern for flooding and the roads which have been saturated by a lot of rain this summer. We're right for flooding. It just didn't appear that There was the kind of widespread flooding that they were expecting, obviously not the widespread power outages that they were

Run in the bottom half of the ninth inning for a white sox nine two eight victory and oh my gosh just again. Ultimate success for major league baseball. Which means you either have or you don't and you're prone to it forever and the interesting thing. Though is the fact that it can be tons of different genes which is why we haven't nailed it down to one thing. So for example the on the extreme end something like hemiplegic migraine which mimic stroke and things like that has three distinct genes that we know that that causes it but for everything else. We know that it has to do with ionic transport which is basically saying that is the healthy Healthiness of neuron is impacted on migraine. And depending on which area of the brain it affects. That determines your symptoms so the most common head pain but it can also be dizziness. It can be stroke like symptoms. It can be ocular. Symptoms all that kind of

NCAA Tournament East Preview
"Welcome to coincide with greenberg dockage in the south bracket where the number one seed is. Bela number two seaters iowa states. Let's get right into it. John gallagher wild and i like john gallagher. Head coach at hartford neighborhood. Man the neighborhood who here west hartford the neighborhood as the ultimate philly guy. John gallagher is the ultimate dilly guy. I've already got the text from. I've spoken is tipped off banquet a year ago. The dude is certifiably insane in a good way. What he no one is going to enjoy the ncaa tournament more than it. So as soon as they won they immediately went to indianapolis and starts to quarantine and have experienced john. Enjoy it. we're gonna say nice things about you. You're a good guy. And ballard dance so nokes no trepidation about baylor's performance against oklahoma state. Oklahoma states really good people are losing their mind. What at at baylor games. They're playing in the big twelve. They're not planning west coast conference. You're playing in the big twelve. You're planning against other teams that have good players. You're gonna lose games all right. The next game is interesting. Opening round games wisconsin. Why i think he's just not right against north carolina who depending on the day is not right. I mean real simple carolina. You can take care of the ball. Are you gonna make your shot if you take care of the ball and at least get shots up. Then you have an advantage. Except that as we know wisconsin wisconsin's analytics over. Like if you just look at their analytics you would think they'd win every game. They don't give up second shots that will turn it over. They get pretty good shots but they don't play winning basketball. I know that sounds weird. But there's something not right. I think carolina find a way to win that game except the carolina. Jecklin hide reminds of this game. Would you like i like carolina. And this and i look whatever's happened to nate rivers whether it's kobe whether it's whatever it just hasn't been good. I expected more out of him. They don't run their stop nearly as well as they didn't pass they rely too much on one. And frankly they're not a one on one team. And you know what would those big garrison brooks bay. Come and all and bacon's and everybody else you can get into wisconsin. Guards make them drivers into traffic. I think this is a pretty good match up for north carolina. I just think they're better. And i think they're going to win the basketball game and i think they're going to win it fairly big. So if you wanna bet on a game this probably going to have tyke spread. That's gonna move it out a little bit. I think this is the game i think. North carolina wins by double digits. All right to winter is the sexy upset. eco nova plant without conquests. Be justin moore play the other day but wasn't good. They started the set a little bit. You know this is. This is a winter key. May play really fast. I've got a low post lower burns at play him about fifty minutes game. he's really productive. Obviously they got a very good camera. Badran the big six seven kind of point guard because they run the show through a tuck this about. They're extremely aggressive. Pat kelsey really likeable dude. Winter months play fast was gonna try to get into half court who you like. Well i i agree with everything you said. I think winter got a hell of a team. But if this was any other organization other than j j rights organization i would say the winthrop's gonna win the basketball game but you still have robinson hurl. You still have samuels. And if healthy justin moore. You've got three guys. You've got the best three guys on the court. And that always bodes. Well now the point guard situation okay. It is what it is. We all know that point guards at villanova stuff are important. It is the sexy. Pick the five twelve upset all that kind of stuff. But i'm not betting against jay wright and his organisation they just seem to overcome things that need to be overcome when they need to be overcome. I great i agree all right. So now this is an interesting north texas by gurus helmi north texas guards. The crap you absolutely flat can guard you an elite defensive team. They put great pressure notable they then eyeball reversal on play. Two man game with javon Handle it let the point guard and that they are really really good solid defensive team. They turn people over there really aggressive. But you've seen teams like that. Purdue doesn't beat themselves. You pretty has probably i i do. I think this is going to be right down to the wire south because what. I've talked to people today actually. Starting last night couple guys. I was surprised. North texas beat western kentucky. Not because i knew anything about no taxes. But because i saw western kentucky for three games and and they're really good athletic on the wing. Strong tough. I think what you said about the all of the defense bits. Dramatically bad against purdue get up into. They're not the quickest. Get shot team jay nineties really the only one that can i think this is going to be. I'm going to bet against purdue because i think produce offensive analytics put them in the top ten. But nobody's really pressured purdue nobody's really got into them and under wings. Don't take this game for granted. North texas is going to cover whatever the point spread is pretty wins. It the end. Are you got another big time. Texas tech utah state and utah state. Pounds that thing in pain name is cadence a big physical that play a four round. One run actually pretty good motion and so pretty good actions to me. The kid just being an interesting precedent. Don't shoot it as well as they happen to pass but they really defend the top five rebounding They're a very good offensive antiques. Keta against texas tech doesn't have a legitimate big tonight. I mean or cassette said
Liverpool's Mountain to Climb
"The big game in the premier league today. It was liverpool against chelsea liverpool. Losing one nil. They've now lost five straight home league games for the first time in club history. Stevie nickel how has it come to this. Oh my goodness well as being a slippery slope I remember sitting here. What thirteen games ago liverpool. It's operatives league they had west brom coming up at newcastle coming up. They had only coming up. And we're talking about who's gonna stop liverpool routine in this tale. Thirteen games live like the forgotten how to play a front three. It destroying any defense was from can seem t- holiday short and i mean one show on goal today whole tells you the problems liverpool have going forward and of course we can say is unlucky so only so many times defensively but when you've got an this game today to defend with experience of of alexander arnold and forbidden new causing the goal then you can excuse so listen a team that feting games ago was straightened towards the title has gotten to the stage where this is not a surprise. This is actually when the final whistle went today. I wasn't surprised because this team is playing like a team that struggling as getting results like a team struggling and guess wha the struggling and is going to continue. I don't see an end to done given the problems that they have indefens- should club using more pragmatic approach. Not really. i agree with stevie exactly the same when they add west brought new castle after the seven zero win against crystal palace all it would move in weeks for liverpool. Thought stride clare. We can't keep blaming injuries because defensively it's never really been a problem. Little put off the power from man. City it's offensively where you start now live you. Think they all shot-shy the top end of the pitch. There's no confidence whatsoever. Most salga dragged off tonight Shutters huckabee rush back for beano to be rushed. Saudi-omani doesn't the same laugh. You can't reach them. What he does in terms of he's linka play but all of that's just not enough at the moment and liverpool. And i think you heard in new york and companies pressed hartford's afterwards. He looked absolutely shot. Looked deflated yoga club. The players the fans. I think they just want this season because a sudden it's disaster
