"Apparently the research from the University of North Carolina saying that in actually non critical meetings waste about a hundred million dollars a year at big organisations. He's been studying meetings for two decades which sounds frankly not like something that I would be very interested in although I am very interested in his research. No absolutely and I also like the fact that Shopify actually came up with this tool on some kind of coding to day have like a day where they can be super creative and so some bright spark decided to add this to Shopify. Yeah they're going on an efficiency drive. I look forward to seeing what other companies go to address that as well. That's another story that caught our eye this morning. Now four years on from Jeffrey Epstein's death in prison by suicide, legal against action the former Barclays CEO Jess Staley is revealing the relationship between the pair. A Bloomberg review of the documents legal highlights a profound relationship between the two. Bloomberg's finance reporter Harry Wilson was part of the that team did this reporting and he joins us now. Harry why was so close to Jeffrey Epstein? Well I think there are a few reasons for that. The first is Epstein had become for JP Morgan a very important private banking client. He had hundreds of millions of dollars with the bank so in that respect he was someone that they needed to be close to but you know over time I think probably things went beyond that and they what seems to have developed is a what Staley himself actually describes as a profound friendship. You know they Staley would go to Epstein's luxury getaways. His daughter was helped into Columbia but was advised and given guidance getting to Columbia by Epstein and then you also just saw the way that Epstein would introduce or help to introduce Staley and JP Morgan to all his wealthy and influential friends. How bad do you think this is then for JP Morgan? Well they've already settled a victim's lawsuit for $290 million but there is still a US Virgin Island case against them. Now that's scheduled to go to trial in October so obviously there's potential more for disclosure to come out around that and obviously whatever comes at trial if it goes to trial. But also they have just Staley himself, JP Morgan have a legal case against him where making for claims compensation and for damages against him. So there's still an awful lot legal of runway to go in this. What's going to happen next then? So JP Morgan settles a victim's lawsuits but is this over? This isn't over yet right? No and we've got also to remember there's still a pending UK regulatory inquiry. So Staley's decision down to step as Barclay's CEO was preempted by this investigation by the UK regulatory authorities. Now he's challenging the findings of that investigation over how transparent he was with Barclay's about his links with Jeffrey Epstein but that process is still to run so we could still have a lot more stuff to come out on this. Yeah and it's a very interesting read also more details of course on the Bloomberg terminal. Harry Wilson's piece along with Ava Benny Morrison and Jonathan Browning. Harry thank you so much for being with us and for the reporting on this story of great interest I think to listeners. Our finance reporter Harry Wilson must also be said though that JP Morgan told Bloomberg you know they gave us a statement around this that any association with Epstein was a mistake and in hindsight they regret it. They add that help they him did not commit his heinous crimes. We would never have continued to do business with him if we believed he was engaged in ongoing sex trafficking operations. So that is the response from JP Morgan but as Harry was saying there are ongoing legal cases. Jess Staley meanwhile has previously denied wrongdoing and knowledge of Epstein's sexual crimes. His lawyer declined to comment on this particular report as I say you can read it on the terminal. Okay let's turn to the market moving stories this morning and we're still seeing markets continue to react to yesterday's softer uh us CPI print now just one third of the level that it reached a year ago that means markets now see July more likely than not as the last hike from the Federal Reserve at least for now we've got our market supporter Valerie Titel uh with us for this uh Valerie I was I was drawn to the magnitude of the move in treasuries morning this the two -year yields at 10 basis points down just today yeah the follow -through from yesterday's print is still strong we're seeing equities higher that two -year yield another 10 basis points lower all this because it was not just a soft print but even when you looked under the hood into those super core components the more sticky components of inflation those are showing that this inflation is really here and this is all coming without any labor market weakness it puts a big dent into that argument that going from four percent inflation to two percent inflation was going to be the hard part because we've made big headway yesterday and we still have not had a lot of economic pain so possibly possibly just possibly that door to the soft landing is opening up a and wider wider for the Fed yeah that is interesting and when I suppose the next question is of the kind the rate path for the Fed ahead markets pricing has plunged yes post -july so this didn't change expectations of what's going to happen in two weeks time I'm the Fed is a really over telegraph that they're gonna hike again a to five -and -a -half fed funds but now there's a huge doubt over whether they're gonna have to hike ever again and they might in some way maybe not in the July meeting but in the meetings to come telegraph that they're really on pause for an extended period of time the key thing to me though from this data yesterday is we're now reaching a point where the Fed funds rate is above all three inflation metrics to above core CPI it's above headline CPI and most importantly it's above core PCE. Powell has really drawn attention the last few times he's spoken to real Fed funds rates to real rates and the market is seeing what we got yesterday as a almost a big clue that the Fed is done yeah I mean we have PPI numbers out today as well I mean is that something even to be excited about now given the the magnitude of moves in CPI? It is definitely because there are some components of PPI that feed into PCE and there's some components CPI of that feed into PCE. We know that the PCE metric is the one that the Fed forecasts their favorite measure of inflation it's the one they use as their benchmark so given what happened yesterday a softer than expected print. If we do get a softer than expected PPI we almost know for sure that this PCE will come in soft later later this month too so those are all really good things. The other thing we get later today US jobless claims figures again in the last few weeks they've really retraced the move higher so a few weeks ago we're all worried that jobless claims are rising they were getting close to 300 K I think they hit 260 but they've really come down and again this is all just good news that this immaculate disinflation really could in happen the US economy when that means you can throw out all of your economic textbooks that you were forced to read. That thud you hear hitting the bottom of a bin The Bank of England in terms of interest rates stagflation is much more likely here we we had yes I mean the UK economy is holding up but Adam Posen for example seeing potential for 7 % interest rates in the UK yeah circulation could be a real issue for the the UK is in I want to say the worst bucket out of any developed markets sadly they still have a really strong core inflation hovering around 7 % we do get the updated updated number next week and we also got some updated GDP figures this morning which were better than expected but but this is not the time that we want strong economic data this is not the time we want consumer spending the the Bank of England really wants to see some sort of pullback in household spending and we haven't necessarily gotten to that level yet which only means that the Bank of England base rate could potentially have to go go higher than we previously thought higher than Bailey previously thought which again is not going to to be easy eventually for the UK consumer and then and then it could pose even further problems for for the UK government who also has a ton of guilt issuance they need to do they have an extraordinary debt pile that they're sitting on from the COVID era and a big interest expense so it's not just the UK household who's at risk from this but also the UK government and these tax cuts that we're hearing Jeremy Hunt talk about I'm sure that anyone looking at the UK as an investment scenario does not want tax cuts on the table they want the reign getting from the UK government. Yeah of course then CPI numbers out next week for the UK. I'm gonna bring you back to markets today though Valerie we're looking at Wall Street futures pointing higher again all -time high for the S &P 500? Six and a half percent away from all -time highs in the S S &P 500 and this comes after so many people

"Wondery at byte dot com for over 80% off your impression kit. Wolves two, Brentford, nil, a massive win for the boys from the black country here as they go 7 points clear of the relegation zone thanks to wait for it, roger, Diego, Costas first Premier League goal in 6 years, not sure how much he knew about it. The most Diego Costa goal of all time as well, having a defender sort of bank it off his wildly flailing leg, hairy leg, which was probably just trying to hit the defender himself. Substitute Huang he Chan added a second walls getting something of a rebirth under Julian lopey as they've picked up 24 points from 16 games since the World Cup break. Yeah, amazing Brentford actually appeared to be the latest in that slender mid table to down tools, putting a pair of vacation book and stocks. But take nothing away from walls or take nothing away really from yulin lopate you inherited walls as bottom of the table impotent Patsy's and this really dragged them by force of will detailed determination to safety and even gotten yes, Diego Costa's farewell tour back on a score sheet a fortunate straight yes, but his first Premier League goal since May 21st, 2017, seeing him wheel away in celebration. It just brought back so many great memories for this podcast diverse joking that he likes to eat defenders liver with some fava beans and a nice chianti. Good times. Talking good times, rod Southampton, Neil Crystal Palace, too. It's uncle Roy's world and we're all just living in it. And as a double, gives them their third win on the spin. That's the third straight since Hodgson took over a stretch during which they've scored 9 goals, which is as many as they had netted in the previous 16 league games between November 22 and March 23 before Roy took the wheel. We laugh, but what a move this was to bring him back into the club. The Roy Hodgson revolution that has been one of the truest joys of this season. The Norman Lear of English football is how I like to think of him coming in, simplifying his team's football, giving everyone clear roles just surfing, a kind run of games yes to turn chaos into calm and glad all over ReSound again, incredible to watch a Polish fan serenade in with Roy Hodgson. He's one of our own and then morphing into Roy Hodgson's red and blue army. Same mouths that would never have believed this when he was appointed just over a month ago and to do it was that all the greater is a been so key three wins from three now still a mystery as to why Patrick Vieira didn't believe in the 24 year old, but he's now, you know, talked about as being on the cusp of England. He played every minute of the hodson revolution. It's an incredible man management by Roy, who said something lovely last week day where he said all we coaches are orchestra leaders. We know the music. We know all the notes, but the players, the players have to play the tune. You can see Roy turning up in tails and white tie in order to go and stand on the sideline. It looked fantastic. And then with a little baton in his hand, I think it looks so good. In a game that will kick off right about the time this pod is released leads united host Liverpool, the former desperate to put some space between themselves and the bad place. To me, this one is he left for school. He said, oh God, we've got to support Liverpool this afternoon. Don't we really referring to, I guess, the fear of leads getting three points in the relegation race. And then he said, with real seriousness, he goes, dad, do you think every team we support instantly becomes crap? He's an Everton White Sox, the bears. He said, should we support leads instead this afternoon? And he said it was such truth and pain day though. They almost called child services myself. What have we done? What have you done? Here we go, roger Everton won Fulham three. The cottages come in off 5 straight losses, and they get right off the Premier League medicine that is Goodison Park. Harrison Reed put Fulham ahead only for the player you've been calling super Dwight McNeil all season, roger never anything else. He pulled you mob level, but second half goals from Harry Wilson and Dan James complete the win for the visitors. They give Fulham a score sheet that resembles a list of all quiet on the western front extras and they condemn your mob to a second straight defeat just above the relegation zone waterline on goal difference alone. Remember Fulham, Mitsubishi full of 5, straight losses. This is meant to be an easy win. And God, The Economist tell us there's no such thing as a free lunch with Everton. We're never more vulnerable. Then against a team we're meant to cruise against. Yes, they have no striker, but we haven't had one all season, and so it came to pass that ago. Everton are also mitrovic. Yes. Yeah, I mean, we've been just like, I mean, since DCL realized he's just allergic to football. When we just been dead and buried in the first 20 minutes, we couldn't string a path together. I watched the game back. I would have honestly made subs after about 12 minutes in this game just brought on 5 seconds. It was that kind of darkness. The kind of dauntless that Everton fans who remember the team's low points in the 90s, that's when, I mean, this is what it felt like again, just pure utter utter incompetent

"And I think once the funds were there to support it, if he had had those. If Harry Wilson had not drained him of the $13 million in the primary. And he could have applied those in the general election, he might have won. That was my next question was the primary bad for Zelda or good for him. It was bad. Sure. I mean, we need to have the money to get our message across. The independent expenditure campaign that we did for him, I think, helped him. But the way it's structured is your hard money goes a lot longer, particularly in the is much more effective. If you're independent expenditure, you have to pay a regular rate with respect to your media. And it's mainly media. Yeah, we did some get out the ball and things like that. And in the independent expenditure fund. But you pay more for the media. Those $13 million were very valuable dollars. And he did not have those available to them. And that's, by the way, that's a lot of money to raise for a gubernatorial candidate, a Republican gubernatorial candidate to have that amount. I think that the person who came the closest was rob asked to Reno and his 2014 campaign. And I think it was 3 million. So he had the funds, but the he was drained of them in the primary fights. Interesting. Are you trying to get former congressman zeldin to run against senator gillibrand in the upcoming election in 2024? Come on. I've been chairman for a day. Well, that's been talked about for weeks. Is that I mean, do you like that idea for him or do you want to see him hopefully 2026? I had an interesting discussion about this with governor Hogan of Maryland. Very popular governor. But he felt and there's a lot of pressure on him to run for senator. He felt that

So I prepared for the next board meeting and said I was going. So you've made a lot of money off the gambling industry. Now that you are raising questions about it, raising awareness about it. Are you using your own money to sort of fund anti gambling addiction treatment or initiatives? I have funded charities to do with gambling addiction. In fact, some of them refused to take my money on the basis that the money is tainted. What they asked me to do rather than put the money up front. Now, some of them I did, and I will continue to give money to, but they asked me to speak out. Stewart Kenny, thanks so much for taking the time to talk to me. Western was a pleasure. I'm here with two colleagues from London, Gavin Finch is an investigative reporter for Bloomberg and Harry Wilson is a finance reporter. Thanks so much for being here. Thank you. Thanks for having us. Gavin and Harry, you have written this story about what you have called Britain's gambling nightmare. For those of us who aren't familiar with what's happening in the UK and gambling, could you tell us sure, so there's been a sort of explosive growth of online betting in the UK in the last decade, particularly habit forming casino games like slot machines and roulette sort of virtual casinos. These are extremely lucrative games for gambling companies, but not for punters, who are losing on average about 14 billion pounds a year. I think it was over the last four or 5 years. And when we say explosive, that the growth in these games that's gone from 27 million pounds and 2014 to more than 4 billion pounds last year. And so this is online gambling. This isn't going down in the corner to the little gambling shopper going to a formal casino, but this is all taking place in apps that you use on your

"All about the wages for junior bankers with UBS and a number of institutions. But today, the most read stories on the Bloomberg terminal are the coal is back at Goldman Sachs. It doesn't matter whether you're a junior banker or a high paid investment bank of the college back at HSBC versus pay rises the colors back at Goldman's I should say versus pay rises at HSBC. So what we know at Goldman's is they're set up to cut several hundred jobs. It's the yearly thing that they used to do, by the way. During the pandemic, they halted that. They've got 47,000 employees. It was 39,100 just two years ago. Trading, you saw the business search by 32%. Investment bankers probably a more worrying division to be and their revenue fell by 41%. Now, if you flick it over, I mean two roads, two banks diverge. Pay rises. You and Stevenson caught up with Harry Wilson are print reporter for HSBC. The bank is short of its cost target. There's going to be brutal cost control, but they may materially race staff pay in 2023. So this is about retention of deliverers in the business. They may materially step up those staff wages in 2023 relative to 2022, but the bottom line for you at HSBC. I love this. You know when he talks about the CEO wakening up and his commitment to cost cuts and if he hears that every day, well, that makes him feel good is the CFO. I feel like we're in a good place. So two banks diverged. Pay rises anonymous at HSBC and the coal is back at Goldman's equity markets this morning. A little bit frisky ahead of CPI. We're seeing the biggest four day gain in stocks. We're just holding on to the green line this morning. 41 31, up 0.3%. The biggest four day game since late June. Why? Earnings dear boy. Earnings will keep defying the week

Well, Nathan, we turn now to the nation's capital where a former White House aide is given the most dramatic testimony yet to the January 6th House committee. "Reporting from around the globe This trend you're seeing is very much at the top of the firm That printing money like never before This is a key thing to understand So the exchange too It's a connective tissue for a lifetime of shared riches The big take on Bloomberg radio Absolutely time for the big take and HSBC and focus today under attack from a China upstart that it put on the map ping an is urging HSBC chairman Mark Tucker who consider breaking the firm apart and listing its Asian operations separately on the stock market in a recent private memo the Chinese financial giant laid out a litany of perceived management failures at HSBC from underwhelming returns to swelling costs Joining us now is our finance reporter who's been working on this big take story Harry Wilson Harry good to speak to you So tell us more about what it is that ping Annie is trying to get out of HSBC so pick being Anne for those who don't know big insurance business in China that HSBC has sort of helped back over the years Well ping an is on the face of it is just asking for the Asian bank to be split out from the rest of the group Now Asia is the real profit center of HSBC it produces more than half of its revenues often produces more than half of its profits too So it's an incredibly important business for HSBC But there has been a perception that Asia has points in the past being left out in a cold for instance at the expense of the rest of the group And although HSBC has been trying to remedy that with its own pivot to Asia strategy ping an wants to see it go even further and do a very radical shake up of the group which would be the break off and spin out of the Asian business So how seriously will Mark Tucker be likely to take these concerns I think he has to take the extremely seriously This is not just a very important partner for HSBC in the past in the past HSBC was actually ping ads largest shareholder until 2012 But more than that that ping an is now HSBC's largest shareholder So they have to take what they say very seriously And obviously there's also in the background There's always the spectra of what is really driving this is ping an acting in any way with the I suppose support of the Chinese government That's today's type of considerations will all be going through HSBC's mind at the moment That's a really interesting question isn't it Harry Because asking questions about whether a business like HSBC makes sense at a time where the world you could argue seems to be bifurcating around well it was China versus the west that we were talking about for a long time Now we've got Russia versus the west of course but then China trying to walk that particular tightrope asking questions about whether a breakup would be a good idea It doesn't seem crazy and yet a breakup Is that really being taken seriously by markets The share price reaction at the moment suggests not particularly We haven't seen any great bump in the share price since this news came out So at least for the moment it doesn't seem so But that's not to say that this is very very early stages And there's a lot to happen still For instance we don't know what the rest of the bank's shareholder base thinks about this No one has come out publicly either to condemn ping an move or to support them And once we get a sense of what levels support they have that could start changing things markedly But in the meantime HSBC do have to take this seriously and I'm sure at some point they'll be looking to engage with being able to try and resolve this situation One way or the other Well if this is going on what sort of state is HSBC and given that we've had obviously the COVID outbreaks in China difficulties for business in Hong Kong as well So the bank is in particularly bad shape but the Q one results weren't particularly well received from the bank There was a certain amount of shock at what the bank called a capital timing mismatch So this was HSBC's capital coming in below the level at which investors had been expecting Now HSBC says this is a temporary issue and that's as rates rise around the world particularly U.S. rates That's going to remedy itself and that by next year they should be should be back in root health and that they should be printing money like no one's business But obviously between now and then they face a slightly difficult moment And it looks like ping an has picked its time well Thank you very much Harry Good to speak to you for our finance reporter Harry Wilson with the latest on that big take story And of course even NI big take is the function to use on the Bloomberg if you want to keep across those big take stories from our in depth reporting and a really interesting one there on HSBC which of course takes into account all the geopolitics that we've been talking about for so many years and not and also takes into account the latest on the COVID fight in China where we are seeing actually some of those lockdown measures intensifying Yeah and it's coming the Chinese premiere over the weekend warning of this complicated and grave situation for employment in China urging businesses to resume production with COVID fighting measures in place trying to of course keep the economy going as best as possible while those restrictions continue Yeah interesting I was talking to James maga one of our colleagues over in China who tracks the economy And so he was saying he was pointing out to me as I wasn't sure that the Chinese economy has not taken some of the measures that we saw Western European governments take to support labor markets during COVID of course they haven't had to because they're COVID experience They've kept deaths right down and until recently they haven't seen so many such large outbreaks but now things are changing a little bit perhaps And the latest figures that we have on trade from China of course out today export grow 3.9% in dollar terms year on year and April That's compared to growth of almost 15% in March we're seeing the impact of those COVID lockdowns we're talking about the weakest growth in exports since June 2020 still better than have been expected they'll import unchanged expectation a bit for a decline in imports Okay so that's the China story Still ahead on Bloomberg daybreak Europe we will focus in on the Russia story Russia's annual victory day parade this morning a pivotal moment in the Kremlin's campaigns of whip up public support for the invasion of Ukraine the war in Ukraine of course they don't call it that they call it a special operation what will.

"More on what's going on around the world Thank you Anna let's start here in the UK where a group of MPs is urging the government to press ahead with sanctions against Russia but also help lower income families with the knock on effect of higher energy costs The treasury committee says sanctions against Russia could have a catastrophic and long-lasting effect on its economy and inflict pain on Vladimir Putin's regime but the MPs are also warning that the UK isn't protected from the consequences of its own economy The Chancellor Rishi sunak will reveal his strategy for dealing with the rising costs in spring statement today And here in the UK two inflation's risen again to remain at a 30 year high fueled by rising costs for things like toys clothing and footwear The consumer price index hits 6.2% in February after the ONS described widespread price increases February's reading was up from 5 and a half percent the month before And in London mayor Sadiq Khan has issued the city's first major air pollution alert since 2020 The mayor is urging Londoners to avoid unnecessary car journeys stop engine isling and refrain from burning wood or garden waste The alert which covers Tuesday through Thursday was triggered by an imperial college London forecast that's imported pollution while add to a build up of domestic emissions London already plans to extend smoke tackling measures next year such as the ultra low emission zone Global news 24 hours a day on air and on Bloomberg quicktake powered by more than 2700 journalists and analysts in more than a 120 countries I'm Hannah George this is Bloomberg Anna Thanks very much for that Hannah Now for decades global finance firms eagerly catered to Russian corporations Russian billionaires and the Russian government then tanks started to roll into Ukraine now everyone from sissy which has thousands of staff and billions of dollars of assets in Russia to Goldman JPMorgan and Deutsche Bank are heading for the exit That is the focus of today's big take story and joining us now to discuss one of the reporters on that story Harry Wilson agreed to speak to you then Harry So tell me about which of the banks are really in focus here How much do these banks stand to lose And we know the reasons why and that might be right and proper reflecting the sanctions environment but still how much do these banks stand to lose Got exposure of the main banks You're looking at about a $100 billion of roughly of direct exposure Now that actually in the context of most of these banks is relatively small so you have certainly some of the bigger exposures among some of the European uni credit rifles and Citigroup is what one of the biggest U.S. banks But broadly for all of these banks this is definitely a manageable manageable situation In terms of the actual losses we don't really know yet because the market isn't actually trading there So we haven't actually seen what these potential losses look like Every indication is that it could be pretty bad I mean we spoken to people underground in Moscow and certainly the situation of the feeling is that these valuations market does reopen will be spectacularly down on where they were And is this then a real line in the sand of real change in thinking for western banks and also professional services because we're talking about Wall Street and finance but also their illegal firms scratching their heads working out where the lines are what they are supposed to do and not do in this context Is this the end of western banks and professional services then operating in Russia I think this is two things here First of all got the just the broad sanctions These limit what you can actually do even if you wanted to operate in Russia But then I think there's also a moral point here And this is something that's probably more powerful for a lot of these firms which is western opinion at the moment is very much against the war in Ukraine is very much on the Ukrainian side And so to be seen to be operating in Russia with impunity to be operating a business as usual type arrangement in many ways that will be very damaging publicly for a lot of these firms And what early lessons can we draw them from what's happening here Well a lot of people are starting to say you know is this in some ways a west dry run for what could happen if there was some kind of kick-off in the China Taiwan situation Now obviously a lot of people are saying this signals the west unity could happen the way that even a major industrialized economy like Russia can be excluded from the financial system So some people may be seeing this as a kind of test run for what you might see somewhere else in the future But I mean the impact of that would be of a different order of magnitude wouldn't it given the interrelationship but between for example Chinese holdings of treasuries all of that springs to mind Of course so Russia is a tenth the size of China So yes you'll be talking about something completely different order of magnitude But there are still lessons that broad lessons that you could learn from this about perhaps looking at the way your business is a structured about what types of exposure you're taking to other places where you think something might happen Harry thanks so much Harry Wilson Bloomberg Harry Wilson talking to us there about the big take story And I big take that is the function to use On the Bloomberg terminal if you would like to read that for yourself it's also available online of course.

"It's quite. It's historical connection and excellent new south. Wales a long time ago but account content. I the i will be keeping a much closer wales than our will the other home nations these heroes and and i think they've been overlooked in terms of qualifying from the group. A look there form coming into this tournament. Three defeats eighteen for whales. Run around from france the other night but the other two sides they lost to england and belgium and i think if tournament experience after that run to the semi finals and twenty six kgo eight survivors still in the squad. That will stand them in good stead. Because they've got some youngsters who've come in and boosted the team when david brooks harry wilson dan james out to name a few and i just think that they're being massively overlook to qualify. Now james has got a very different opinion on this but some i think they could make a run to the knockout stages whether they five six to qualify and five to six not to qualify james. Which we've those. Ju backing i've got. Well i would say not to qualify. But i would actually go fair. This is not to go against christians for the sake of it. Golfway baltimore just think it's a very hard when you look at it. I mean italy there in some form. Come into this told him. And the job rebels. Mancini's done is incredible. Switzerland to generally dissident told him major told him tens of getting out the groups and then tikki who i think will be desperate to try and quit in a good before when i just look at wales and the look. They're squad him for me. There's still such an over reliance on gareth bale and our in romsey but this is our who was out so many injury pulled him still et And also bail. He has his injury issues as well as fitness problems on. No we came good for spurs at the end of the campaign. Really be able to stay his fitness over inside. Solan went over. How far they can go in. I'm not to show. And then if you take those two plays out haley's filling in title roberts who is yet to score international level capable as a big glob but i'm not sure when you go up against it with batons national sides Locker room. I just think there's a little bit too much pressure. Maybe some of the young plays is quite young squad when you look at it. That's good place in that. But whether they're required level. I think this is a whale score. Maybe four years tying those younger plays in that will be better for the experience. But of course am belan. Ramzi probably won't be that for me. I just call it. Look plus wales finishing of the group. I think they're were good price for him. F stop sorry for that. Chris i think the switch i think the swiss point is interesting because they've only one four one twice in four appearances at the euros. Obviously whales have got the double that number from one appearance of the year. As i think they are. You know the side most likely to disappoint in that group. Take your point about turkey. I think turkey a quite an interesting side with your magazine in fantastic form but they are unpredictable as well. I just think that whales are being overlooked. I think italy will probably run away with the group. But wales could well not spot behind them. Or let's forget semi-finalists five years ago and fourteen wants to do that again okay. We've got some walmart games on saturdays five. Pm wiles take on bena and then on sunday again both five got luxembourg scotland and england vs remaining. I would like a bet on any of those guys of choice for mainstream with salt with you. Chris of going with england and over two and a half goals against romania. Think this could be a decent sore final friendly for england. A fantastic on home soil. Aren't they won eight of the last Twelve actually two nil do remain got chance to score in this game. They've they've been d- indecent form away from home scored in thirteen of the last fifteen on the road and as we've talked about there may be a slight concern about england at the back at central in central defense in particular and six of england's last ten games have featured over two and a half goals. And so i think that'd be competition front window. We talked about that already. The fact that sancho rochford sterling foden old fine out to to prove themselves makes some mount of course revenue mentioned him to come back into the side after his Champions league exploits you know. They'll be keen to make an impression. Those plays i could see it being qua qua entertaining front again that one england and over two and a half goals. Just fancy scotland to wins miller. Quite a good price looked at some burger. No great shakes. Are they really in. The international scene only had one win in their last seven and failed to school in four though so prolific abby end of the pitch really scotland inclined not to draw against the netherlands. They got the victory. Of course it was just a late memphis to buy gold up not snatched away from them. They're beaten fulcrums discipline. A steve clock side him. I mean that was a two two draw against the netherlands as well which was a makeshift eleven. They missing similar. They're they're more key. Seeing your plays that we'll be back in for the style of the euro. So i think it gave steve off a little bit about some of the pullman says from the plays and again i think it is no dishing for some of some of the squad place to say to him. Look i want to be started not first game of the year. Oh so you know. Let's let's give luxembourger thing. This one thing is scotland. They don't generally teams. Don't gemini seem to smash teams today. You know it's usually by a goal or a couple. So i think winston Is probably a good batsman. Thank you very much indeed agents and before we go. I want your mind selections euros and your best longchamps. I'll tell you what else that trump for top scores.

US-China rivalry hinders a struggling HSBC

"We've seen fall out over the UK is World Way decision suspensions of extradition treaties on most recently. Hong Kong considering on election delay That could mean HSBC's business shift may prove untenable under its current structure being listed in the UK and Hong Kong while supporting China's national security law, expectations of more drastic action on earnings, they are increasing well for more on this. We're joined by Bloomberg Finance reporter Harry Wilson. Thank you so much for being with me, Harry. Look, first of all on H S B. C. It was unusual, wasn't it? That HSBC made the statement that it did about China's controversial A new law that effects Hong Kong. Why do you think they did that? I can only surmise they come on the enormous amount of pressure to say something on it. Normally, banks, particularly HSBC have like to remain entirely apolitical. Getting into politics just isn't in the DNA. And I think the fact that they felt they had to come out and say something publicly shows that probably not saying something will was seen as a school, too. So we certainly have picked up in the last couple of months that our thanks senior to perfectly are getting a little hum. I think a lot of cools a lot of Um ah, imploring from their Asian businesses to basically toe the line of it more when when it comes to Christo. Events in Hong Kong and China. Okay, so that on the security law on the flipside, of course, the pressure in response to that Was was also apply from the UK side. So it's kind of ratcheted up the political pressure you know, on in both parts of their business, surely Yes. So they are getting pressure from all sides. Not just something you came to. The U. S. Is also called him out over this and they're really in a very difficult position because effectively theory some game we'll have You say that since Beijing China onside Is seen in the West to UK us being, uh, essentially going against Western policy, so there isn't really a wind for them haters. In some positions, they can take the fetal sides happy so But trying to be trying to walk a line between them, which sees the increasingly difficult Do you think things matters are going to get worse? And how does it affect the business going forwards? It's a UK bank, but that makes most of its money in Asia. Well, exactly of you should go back with the ancient history of HSBC in the late eighties early nineties recognized this issue, which is why they part of reason why they decided first byway and size of Midland Bank and build up a business. Outside of Asia more than they had at the time, and that was, in part at least a recognition that the situation could become more difficult. Posi handover of Hong Kong in 1997 Now what we've seen since 1997 attempts become a global bank has hit some some brake blocks from headwinds off late, So now they find themselves in a situation where There probably is exposed to Asia optically Hong Kong as they have ever been on that places them in a very difficult position. Because see they want to continue doing business in Hong Kong that increasing against me that they got here to the lines of China, But of course that puts a man on a collision course with Earth. With the U K and the Y the West. So how do you think that this is going to be expressed then? Potentially in earnings? I don't think we're going to really see anything. Take Lee and the earnings on this Aziz yet we're really in the Very early stages off this spook growing political contest between between China and Hong Kong itself. These Already in a family, the procession and that that is really with us China trade tensions or the problems we've we've been talking about just now, that's more to do with Corona virus before about the political people. We saw lately in Hong Kong. I think they probably were looking more 5 10 years out. It could be the case that you start to see a kind of maybe death of 1000 cups and those who have so little losses here and there now see that that is very well aware of that on there going to be looking through everything they can to make sure that that happens. Things are they increasingly difficult environments in which to do business, particularly in a country like China. Where are you?
