"And I just a very little bit of curiosity about where the whole guru takes any scar tissue damage with him from two very similar defeats to the same player. Long run. Yeah, we'll see. I don't think he will. I think he'll be fine. Great talking point, David. You raised it, you dismissed it all in about 15 seconds. There was one other thing I just wanted to say on Rublev, and that was one of the lines he gave in his speech afterwards saying coming from the country I am. It means a lot to have such international support. And it was kind of heartbreaking to hear him say that, but also he has probably been the player the most outspoken in terms of among the Russians, anti war messages quite often. And I think that's really, really important just to just to mention as well. Yeah, very good point. Just finally in terms of Monte Carlo, the doubles title was won by Ivan dorig and Austin krycek 1412 in the match tiebreak is their first masters 1000 title is a pair. They beat Roma on the old do and Sam weissborn in the final and our naoda is the first monegasque player to make the Monte Carlo final alongside his Austrian partner and that all makes sense to me now because Charles Leclerc, the monegasque Formula One driver was there watching, wasn't he? Everyone was like, what is he doing watching didn't stay for the singles final I don't think, but he was there watching the doubles final, but I presume, I mean, maybe they're not friends, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that Charles Leclerc and Rama areo are friends to some extent. And prince Albert was punching the air. Yeah, that was a vibe. On to the Billie Jean King cup qualifiers which took place at the weekend, the winners of the 9 qualifier ties earned spots at the Billie Jean King cup finals where they'll be joined by the defending champion Switzerland and last year's finalist. Australia, who don't need to qualify. The ITF said that the host venue for the finals which will take place on the 7th of the 12th of November will be announced in due course as will the 12th team to compete at the next event. We had Ford the ties being wrapped up after just three matches that was the USA beating Austria, just could be gula and coco Goff doing their thing in Delray Beach of venue that I knew not I know well and it seemed to be seemed to be good vibes for Team USA in ostia, which was nice to see because obviously the last time you saw Team USA in Billie Jean King cup, it was it was not good vibes, or it was very much end of season vibes for the USA team. Spain beat Mexico in three rubbers Kazakhstan beat Poland, including Elena roback in a beating, magdalena to seal victory in that tie, France beat Great Britain and yeah, there were a few Heartbreakers in there for Great Britain. Every set and the two singles matches on Friday went to tiebreaks, Garcia, beating bolter 6 7 7 6 7 6 and then corne beating Harriet dart 7 6 7 6. Yeah, extraordinary school lines there, heartbreaker for Great Britain, but France through to the finals, two of the ties finished after both reverse singles matches. That was Germany beating Brazil, including a big win for Euler niemeyer. Future Wimbledon champion, remember, according to Hannah Wilkes of this parish, she beat Beatrice at admire and the Czech Republic beat Ukraine three one that's time was played in turkey and Marta kostek beat barbaric critique of her who got engaged just before the tie I saw I saw an engagement photo on Instagram. There you go. But bringing you all the news here. And then we had three ties going down to the doubles, Italy beating Slovakia. They did have a two love leads, the vacuum fought back to all, then Italy won the decisive doubles with trevisan and couture winning that one. Slovakia had served for the match and the tie at 5 four in the deciding set, so a heck of a win there for I've driven myself down a cul de sac here to avisa and Koch are Canada beat Belgium three two Leila Fernández and Gabriela dubrovsky beat grit menin and Kirsten flipkens in the doubles. The retired cursed in flipkens. Playing in the Billie Jean King cup there. And she says that that is her last Billie Jean King cup match. I will believe it when I see it. And she was like the sort of vice captain of the team. Is now the Belgian Billie Jean King captain. Obviously, a bit of a tough start, but that's an interesting sort of new role for him. But the other bit of news that came out of that was really good news about Bianca andreescu's health. She wasn't playing, but there was news that she hopes to even be back in in Madrid in a couple of weeks. The injury was not as severe as feared, which is just great, great news. So hopefully and rescue his back very very soon. Absolutely here here. In the final result from the Billie Jean King cup qualifiers Slovenia beating Romania three two, becoming the first nation to come from love tea down to winner Billie Jean King cup ties since 2015, they had led to zero after Friday, but tomorrow's a dunce and kaia yu van of beating Beatrice had admire in the first round of Wimbledon last year fame. Won their singles matches over and a bogdan of formerly on the backhand list fame and Jekyll and christiane respectively to level up the tie, forcing it to the deciding doubles, which was suspended overnight at three all

"Oh, she was standing so far up the box as well as moving forward. So I think it is a bad matchup. You can served out of the court. That's definitely true. And although she got that great win against per dosa, I think it is a different level of firepower that we're dealing with with those two players. Yeah, it's an interesting one, because I think the dart second serve definitely did come under the microscope, but it was quite interesting because Caroline Garcia's court position, she was so far in the baseline. There was nowhere she could only go. She had to go to the net. She wasn't exactly going to retreat back to the baseline. And it really kind of it did work for her at moments, but also there were quite a few fantastic passing shots from Harriet dock because she just knew what was coming from the Garcia end. Yeah, I remember seeing one point, I think it was in the tiebreak and Garcia was practically at the service line to receive, which just was very entertaining. But yeah, that tiebreak, very dramatic. It kept going on and on. I actually missed the end of the tie break because I had to dash out to find somewhere quiet because I had a little guest appearance on BBC Radio London. But the live score app had died. I was no longer able to watch the tie break. So I sort of went live on the radio and I didn't know what had happened in the toy break, which is slightly interesting. But yeah, we'll be putting a link on socials, if anyone wants to catch a bit of that as well from the women's sports show on radio London. I'll definitely be listening. I think it's something where you're talking about more than just the action from the tennis and I think you also talking about the decision from the WTA to resume activity in China. So that's a very nice weekly making very hot topic. And we'll be covering that properly on Mondays standard catch up show, won't we? Because there's a lot to unpack from that announcement. But yeah, so all got very busy, all of a sudden with the tie break, the radio, then the match kind of finished fairly quickly after that the third set going one way after the tie break. It did feel like that second set tiebreak was almost like Harriet darts last stand. And I'm really impressed with how she fought and was able to take it to a third. But I mean, it feels frustrating. I know we're talking about her second serve particularly, but also it's so frustrating to see I feel like Harriet dart from the baseline, I think she's got a fantastic double handed backhand, the number of winners she was hitting, particularly down the line. It's a fantastic weapon of hers, but it feels completely night and day between her double handed backhand and her forehand. I think when you have a game like darts, the difficulty is, is that you have to be playing right at the top of your level and you have to be very mentally switched in to going for it because quite often she can be a little bit passive and some of those moments and she has to completely different matches. It is a very different matchup. She was not going for the shots in the same way and I think with the mats today are four handed a bit more on it at times. I think she obviously was out here in the first and the third set. But it is a very difficult mental decision to make whether you go for that second serve, whether you go for that full hand, you don't necessarily feel comfortable with. And I think that's probably where some of the matches she loses on tour happens because she really needed to mix up that second serve and put more on it because so many of those points were a foregone conclusion. She knew it. You watched her place. She knew what was going to come, but she wasn't able to kind of release the arm. She had a few practice shots to see if she could release it, but she got a bit tight in those moments on that second set because the pressure that was mounting on her was very high. And it just felt like it was just giving confidence to Garcia. We were watching it, and you were saying to me, it was like, got to do more with the first serve here, because yes Garcia is winning the point, but also, yeah, she's just growing and growing more in the matching game back into it after that second set blip. Yeah, and it felt like even if that second set had gone a different way, whatever the case had been, I mean, it would have ended up, obviously it was three sets. It would have ended up with the Garcia when because the tactic was there. And she wasn't going to change that away. I think she did get a bit tight in the tiebreak. And this is something I was going to actually ask you about in terms of she paid four tie breaks in two matches. And she won two of them, which for someone who served as bad as she does. And as well as she served during the sets, it felt like that first serve was sort of missing. Today in the tiebreak and I think it was more present yesterday. So I was quite surprised that dart would take a tiebreak against her. Yeah, it did certainly at times I feel go walk about the Garcia first serve because it's such a great weapon for her. I feel like at times during this time when we've seen her on the singles court, you know, the crowd's been really into it. They're really getting back into it. The sensing some opportunity, but Garcia, she's got that first servant. She just literally can just slam the door shut with an ace and the point's gone and we have to move on to the next one. Well, we did ask her yesterday about whether it was sweeter to get the victory after a very tight three set wind. And she said, she much prefer to get a 6 three 6 three. And maybe that is why, because she had the flight to catch, she wants to fly. She has a bright flight. She's already checked in, but I think it was maybe she doesn't like those clothes matches. And maybe she does get a little bit tight, and that's why we've seen that in the past when her ranking drop maybe in those moments, the pressure does pile on and that's what she's become much better at dealing with in the renaissance, which brings me on to the fact that straight after interview came here to mad dash another mad dash to press where you got to ask Caroline about the renaissance and got her firsthand response to that. So I'd love to hear your thoughts on what she said. Congratulations.

"Kim Chris, today is the 50 for April and we are here to catch up on day two from the Billie Jean King cup finals qualifier, Great Britain versus France and yeah, I mean, that was a bit of a mouthful, but listeners we are back second day running and again, we are not at virtual tennis weekly headquarters. We are in our nice apartment in Coventry and actually, for the first time, we can actually understand why it is called cathedral view. I do have to issue a little bit of an apology because I can see it from where I'm sitting. I can see two spires that definitely not anywhere near us. I would not say that we are a cathedral adjacent. We are canal JSON. So if I were to market our flat, I would say it's a riverside penthouse. If I have known you'd be so fussy about the distance from the cathedral spies. I would have suggested you book to yourself, Chris. But no, we are, we have two views. We have a canal view had a cathedral view. I've just had to close the curb because the sun was in my eyes. So it's stunning afternoon and Coventry. We've had some stunning tennis at the arena as well. I'm almost sad. It is stunning outside because it does mean that we are recording slightly earlier than yesterday because unfortunately the tide did finish. Sadly prematurely for most British fans. It did. So we were always going to be up against a tough ask today, having gone down two nil from Friday's action. And it was actually Garcia against dot as the first match of the day. So it was all on Harriet dart to keep Britain's hopes alive in the tie. We mistakenly assumed it might have been the doubles first. And maybe I feel like we were alone though. No, I think because that's what they do at Davis Cup. I think we thought it was going to be the same sort of format. So apologies listening for any mistakes there, but begs the question, should they have made the doubles the third tie? Would that have been better for Britain? Well, I think it would be better for the tennis generally. I think people like to see a bit of a mix. There's a reason why if the final rubbers are dead that you pay the doubles because that is a different sort of thing for people to see in a different spectacle. The Davis Cup when we went to that earlier in the year, the doubles is the first thing that gets played on the Saturday. And I think that really does kind of, if you have great singles players, you might not have great doubles players. It's a bit of a leveler. It's very exciting. The format is obviously deciding point. And I feel like it's something that you don't want it to be an afterthought because I think that doubles is something that is growing in profile and it is something where you might get to see some of the best singles players play because I'd have loved to see Garcia on a doubles court. Yeah, it would have been great. You would have probably expected yet to see Garcia and I've got an echo the same points. I don't really understand why the doubles wasn't the live rubber. I think it would have made a more compelling spectacle. And personally, I think if you think about the competition, I don't want to feel like this competition is just based on singles players and singles results alone. I think it's got to show the most of the best of a team and therefore it can't just necessarily focus on one aspect of tennis. It's going to focus on multiple aspects. So that's why for me, I was a little bit disappointed. We didn't get the doubles as that third rubber. Yes, same. I think it would have been a really lively encounter, which we got in the doubles match regardless, even though it was a dead rubber, but let's look at what we did have as the first match of the day instead, which did get dramatic at times. Went to three sets Caroline Garcia against Harriet dot. The second set going to a tie break dot clinching it, saving match points to do so to take the match into a third. I was surprised. I'm not going to lie that that went to a third. Particularly after that first set where I was like, this could be over very, very quickly. Yeah, I mean, Chris, tell us what happened in that first set. It was very quick, wasn't it for Garcia racing through that one. Did you feel optimistic about darts chances after that first set? Well, I had been checking the flight times for Garcia to get to Stuttgart. And by looking at it, I think she was in a rush because she started very aggressively. And in order to make that flight, I think she was hoping to get this done in two. And then did we decide whether we think she was going to go from London or from the Midlands. She's absolutely going from Heathrow. I've checked it out. It's very expensive if you have a connecting flight coming in. So I'm sure that she can probably cover the cost of that. And maybe she hasn't comparing on skyscanner. But Heathrow is where she's been flying from. And she has to put her delay her flight because once again, we had another epic long set. Another title. She played four tie breaks in her two singles match, which was a bit mad. But I did not think that we would get that tiebreak, as you said after that first set, because it was one way traffic, and it felt like Garcia had fully understood what she needed to do to get past dart in terms of attack the second serve, and she was serving by herself, be proactive, and it looked like it was kind of a foregone conclusion. Yeah, I mean, to me watching that first set, it sort of told me, I think, you know, what my deepest fears were was that Katie bolter, for example, her ball striking is fantastic and the power and the aggression that she can bring to the court really did match Caroline Garcia for long, long periods on day one. And in that first set to me, Harriet dart just was not able I feel to bring that ball striking quality that was going to make Caroline Garcia feel really uncomfortable. Myself and Chris, you know, we saw dart against rabaka. And for me, what was kind of a similar sort of match up in Glasgow at the end of last year where, again, you just felt that right back in would have just kind of dealt with the ability that kind of dark possesses on the court, but I was impressed how much she bounced back in that second set. Yeah, and I think it was one which a bit different from the Garcia that we saw the previous day because it did feel like her level did drop in that second set as well. And I think that dart did definitely start to serve better. I think she did take something off at first serve, so she made a few more of them. I think she needed to, right? I needed to. A little bit less pressure on the second serve because we're kind of averaging around 60 miles an hour, which against Garcia, who's standing there. She was just dropping them in.

"More tie breaks. More tie breaks, a bony two this time. I'm not going to lie. I was pretty thankful this didn't go to a third. It's a bit negative of me. We obviously want team GB to win and do well, but I think when it got to almost two and a half hours of play, I think, you know, we're getting into the depths of the second set, thinking, oh yeah, this could go really late if they do go to a third. But it wasn't to be because alyse corneille stepping it up in that second set, I rate to take it quite comfortably at 7 three in the end. So it was just shy of two and a half hours that match. Shame though, because Harry got off to a positive start, she went a break up, and she had a set point in that first set, didn't she, Chris, and very, very fine margins. What went wrong for Dar in that tiebreak, which prevented her from capturing that set? I think it was probably the forehand if we're being honest, I think we all made this comment that the backhand is so solid and she can do so much damage with it and she can do more than just redirect. And I feel like on the forehand, the nature of rally shop. It doesn't put the pressure on. And I think corneille someone who also isn't known for having the biggest game of both wings and it was like playing a slightly better version of herself really. They're both great movers. There was some fantastic retrieval from both of them, but when it came down to it was a bit more weight of shot and a bit more consistency from corneille. Yeah, I mean, corneille's defense throughout that match I thought was fantastic and everything dart through at her. I think given the amount of experience she's had over the years on the tour was just able to kind of take in and maneuver that into a position where more often than not. She was winning the point. But it was to me, although kind of obviously a very similar score lines in the sense in one sense with the tie breaks to Garcia bought it. This to me felt much more of kind of an attritional battle from the baseline who was going to make the first error as opposed to who was going to take the initiative and hit the winner. Yeah, and I think especially the attritional element of that was very present in a particular point of the tie break. I think it was at 5 all. And then over my shoulder, I spotted that Caroline Garcia herself was actually watching it with us. It actually felt very natural to be watching it amongst the French as well. I thought it added to the atmosphere that was there. But it was a point where everyone just sort of stopped what they were doing and watching the screen because it was a really and she tends to point to explain to her how good a point it was. I had to call it epic, which I think wasn't my most eloquent. But I did manage to communicate that it was a very good point. And then I managed to say to her, how many tiebreaks we played and she was very, she agreed. It was very nice. Yeah, exactly exactly. But maybe next time we'll see if we can watch hopefully alive. Second singles. Maybe she'll have to listen to this podcast to catch up on what she missed. But yes, yeah, that was nice. And actually talking about atmosphere, you know, was a really good atmosphere in the arena with both sets of fans. The French brought a very vocal crowd over, there was obviously a brass band for the Brits, which was, yeah, really good, like it was almost sell out. All I will say is about the crowd and stadium, the big heads, the big heads, the cobbled cutout heads, I think I'm gonna have nightmares tonight, or they're a bit freaky to me. I know what you mean. If I was like, Heather Watson and Harriet dart, et cetera. I don't think I'd want my head on a massive bit of cardboard, but I'm sure they're used to their faces. I'm not gonna lie, a split second, I did wonder, would this look good for the tennis weekly podcast with our heads like blown up into kind of a two and then I was like, no, that's not a good idea. Yeah, I think we'll leave that one. I did bed a little bit, but yeah, so in the end, cornet came through France or two, two nil up. Which means that tomorrow we have the doubles tied to start with. At midday, that's obviously a live rubber. We've got Olivia Nichols and elysia Barnet for team GP. They will be up against Garcia and la denov, who are the reigning French Open, doubles champions. So very, very tough task to ask of the British girls, but you know, they've had really good results together on call. They did very well at the Billie Jean King cup finals in November. They won their first title, I think, quite recently on the tour as well. Chris, what are you predicting for the doubles clash tomorrow? Do you think we're in with a good chance? Well, I think something that we know about these sort of ties is you never know who's going to be nominated to play in that second day. You almost have to scratch the drawer that's been made because it's hard to know if Garcia will be playing. There are tune it up. It might be one that she'll play the singles. It could be one that she might think if we play our strongest doubles pairing, which is obviously Garcia and that maybe they can get it done and she can hop on that fight to stut. But based on what I saw in Glasgow, I think that players that play rugby together and this was the reason why and cover thong did pick this pair is because they know each other's games inside out. Obviously Garcia and Madonna which know each other very well, but they do not play weekend week out on the tour. So I do think it's anyone's game. I think the girls are very fired up. I spoke to them, actually impressed prior to the tournament starting you'll be hearing that a little bit later on. On another episode, but they live for these moments. And so I really think they're going to bring their a game. And we've seen how close it can be when players aren't ranked anywhere near each other. So it's all to play for. And I think we're going to do it. Oh, that is big. I mean, just on that. I think it's interesting just looking at the GB team as a whole because Katie ball has said it. I think Heather Watson said it, Barnett and Nichols have said it and they really kind of stress the environment that they're in, the support that they get and feeling like right at home to the point that it enables them to play to the best of their ability versus when they're on the tour and it can feel like you're alone isolated in the middle in a country way, way far from home. Yeah, to me that was sort of interesting about that kind of support network and I guess is there not necessarily a criticism, but do you think you're like the GB players, they play really, really well in their home comforts, where they've got this really nice support set up, which is great. But is it almost like they need to do that, be able to do that away from home and that's what the challenges with going from these team environments into the tour. Yeah, I also think something that we talk about quite a lot and I always look for the Brits in drawers.

"Match on whether victory after a long match feels even sweeter than a short one. Extra sweet to win such a close match that was so tidy contested. I always take 6 three 6 three win, but if I have to fight and try to push my limits, I do it. And I'm very happy with the wind. Of course, she was a great challenge for me and I tried to push my limits because of the match was super ties. Then I got super frustrated and it was really like trying to find a solution even when the solution was tiny. And of course, it's a great read for me for my confidence and yeah, it proves you that mentally you're stronger than you think. Yeah, I was Clinton surprised by that answer. I thought it would be absolutely so pleased to have got it done. To be on the right side of the victory, but she was actually like, you know what, if it could be 6 three 6 three, that would be ideal. And then we spoke after and thought, well, why not 6 love 6 love? Save yourself a lot of time and then get yourself in peak physical condition going into the clay next week. So not ideal for her, playing three hours and 26 minutes because if she's playing tomorrow in the doubles, that's the question we have to look at. It might be one where the three hours and 26 she was spent on court might actually hinder some of her progress because you don't often play potentially three matches before you start a major tournament. Yeah, and what I actually liked about hearing Garcia in press was she was asked about was she surprised by Katie Porter's level that she brought to court and she said no. She knows that she's a very on her day a very, very tough competitor and we absolutely saw that today. I feel like her serving was one of the key attributes that got her through particularly in those tight moments, but it was just great, I think, to see her back to kind of where she belongs in that sort of top 5 category. It was great. I feel like her as well interacting with the crowd, the French crowd, the British fans. It just created a great atmosphere for the match. And as you said, it was one where it felt like points were ending on winners more so than unforced errors. Absolutely. And I have to ask him, you've witnessed the renaissance in the flesh. What did you make of it? I was very impressed by the renaissance Coventry themed nails actually. Yes. The sky blue nails. Sky blue nails. I wanted to ask, you know, was that because she knew that Coventry, that's the city colors, the football team. Maybe she's a closet Coventry Coventry city fan. Possibly, I mean, the XS is being played. The football stadium is in the same complex. So yeah, I thought that was a funny little detail that I noticed. But yeah, it was fantastic to see the match to see to see Garcia play it. And to have such a fantastic match actually, it was quite a long one. We needed a good cup of tea afterwards. But it was well worth it, and like you said, it was good quality match, not one that's ebbing and flowing and going on because of poor performances. It was very high standard and very enjoyable. Just on Katie balter. Where does this put her in terms of like your perception of her? Does it just make her even more frustrating to know her ability and we don't see that on the tour? Because her last match against a French player, she lost to like the French number number 9 out in a, you know, in the middle of was it in the middle of nowhere on a hard court and now she can then almost like flick a switch and then do this against Caroline Garcia. I mean, they did beg the question of Caroline Garcia was the right pick for this match because maybe they should have got Margot revoy to play because she managed to take her out in straight sense. So it is night and day, isn't it? It is nice and day. And to kind of to wrap up the chat on Katie, I think it's one where she said she's going to hit her shot. She's going to go for them. She's going to miss them some days and she's going to do a really good job at trying to do her best no matter what, but it's not always going to go swimmingly for her. Let's take a very quick break, but we'll be back in the second half, talking about Harriet dart against the lise kore, which is our second match of the day. So do not go anywhere. Save me so much in my car. Safe drivers save up to 20% with

"She sounded a bit tense at a bit angry, didn't she? When that sort of topic came out, it was almost all her sore spot, I feel. I think in the room we were all a little bit surprised because we've all kind of been impressed with before and she tends to be pretty level with what she says and doesn't give anything away. And I think she wanted it to be known that radically did not make herself available. And also around those comments of radar economy not knowing when this tie was being played. I mean, it is the same. And she would have known. I think she would have and it's probably just as we talked about a flippant comment, but you do think that it probably doesn't help the fact that she's not here and didn't know what it was, but it's actually the same time every year, and it's the same clash because of her sponsor. Is Portia and it's the Porsche Grand Prix. So I think it's a little bit of an awkward one. And I do think that it is true that Emma does want to be part of the team, but I think right now it's not the priority. I know. We'll get on to what I think is so awkward because Caroline Garcia is here and she's playing Stuttgart, but she's also she's also playing for France. But I mean, just talking on radio carne, do you feel like the raddy khanu conversation in the build up to this type? Do you feel like it's overshadowed the tie itself? I know she's like the hottest thing since sliced bread it feels like. Do you feel like it's overshadowed the tie somewhat in the in the build up? I think it might have done and I think actually it's a bit of a disservice to the team that we do have for Great Britain because it's the same team that played in the cup finals in November in Glasgow, which you both went to. They got to the semifinals. They did super well. Probably exceeding expectations. And I think it's probably taken a bit away from their achievements from last year and we saw today they didn't quite manage to get the job done in the singles matches. But we saw very valiant efforts from both players, but so I think it's a shame maybe that the radical issue has come up. But it's something that we certainly have to address because many people listening might be wondering, where on earth is she? She's your number one ranked singles player for GB. I mean, arguably, you could say, I mean, there is talk about where is Emma raducanu, but there's also been similar marrying about other British players, Jodie burridge, for example. Yeah, Jodi boroughs has had a really great run of form. And that question was also asked, and said that her selection had to come in before some of Jodi's best results had come in on the ITF tour. So I think I don't necessarily think that that's that great an answer because she was missing last time and she was someone who could have been selected, so you have to feel that if you're a Katie swan, a Jodie barrage, or even a friend jonesy is the only British player to make a semifinal this year. You have to be asking a couple of questions as to whether this is the strongest team, but then again, as Kim said, it's been very close. Do you feel like there is an argument to say with the selection? Is there an argument to say around like it being sentimental to the team and the fact the successes they had in Glasgow last year and as a result of that, they're like, okay, let's see what they can do again. Or do you think this genuinely is the best team that we could put out? I think when we get onto the tennis, we will talk about Katie Bolton, but she is someone who can play against the top players very, very well. So she had some big wins. That makes perfect sense to me. Harriet dart played so well last year in the bodie Jean King cup finals. And then the doubles pair of Olivia and Alyssia also played well. So when you look at it, you can understand why you would select that, but obviously it has to be addressed because you haven't picked your top two players for your country. Let's listen to what Caroline Garcia had to say about it because she was also asked about radical news decision making so we can hear from her just now. She

"Very interesting. Next level. Watch this space. But let's talk about tennis tournaments that we do have happening. We've got the Monte Carlo masters as we've mentioned. It's very much underway. I think Andy Murray is actually on court as we speak against Alex de manor. Joel, how excited are you that Andy Murray is back playing this tournament again. It's on a clay court. Yeah, he's on a clay court. I think last year was very odd. I think he played Madrid, but didn't play the French Open. I think maybe he was a little bit confused in terms of what his body could do in terms of the wear and tear and the grind of being on a clay. So it's great, I think from that perspective to see that he's confident enough in his body that he's willing to give the clay court season a go. I mean, just looking at from the pitcher's perspective, I'm sort of glad he's there because we had cam nori go out earlier today, which wasn't the best of starts. We have had Jack Draper come through against Sebastian Baez, which to me is a very, very, very decent result against a very handy clay quarter, particularly given the sort of injury niggles that are sort of niggling away, I think at Draper at the moment. So yeah, it's nice to see Murray there, but it's a completely open field, I feel no Nadal, no outcry. Yes, Novak Djokovic is back. Yes, stephanos sisa passes there, but Djokovic hasn't played for a while, sisa pass. I think he's not at the level he would want to be, you know, didn't have the greatest sunshine double. Let's say, so yeah, I think it's really all to play for. And who knows? Maybe we get a final that is on the lines of like a fornini Levitch because of the big names not there and as I said got names who I don't necessarily think are performing at the levels that they have been used to or we've seen in the past. I'm not sure Andy Murray is going to make it to the final though based on the starts from that first set who actually has already lost it 6 one and he hit unforced errors just two winners. Let's hope that he could do it. He loves that. It's going to be a three setter surely. I mean, yeah, I think a is quite an open field, I'm still expecting Djokovic to have a decent tournament. I think Yannick sinner Novak Djokovic could be a quarterfinal given sinners recent form. That could not be interesting. I think Jack Draper could have her cash next, but I think Jack could win that one. Casper, I think my money's on Casper. I think he's going to do it. I just think he's playing himself into form. He might lose a few sets on the way, but I think I can see him. I think that that bottom half particularly is quite open, given I feel like rude is there and surpass. And Taylor Fritz, I mean, yes, I think he's shown the most consistency I think actually out of all those three, but you wouldn't necessarily say clay is his strongest surface. So I'm expecting a little bit of a surprise person may be coming through that part potentially of the draw. I'm still going to go for a Djokovic sits the past final. I'm sticking with the top two seeds. What about you guys? I'm going to go center versus Casper. Oh. I don't believe that will happen though. I'm going to say, I'm going to go yad et cetera as well. I'm going to go Yannick sinner versus Andre Rublev. Oh, yeah. I mean, they're all plausible combinations, I think, so I'll be quite interesting. I'm just glad we're back on the clay. I love Monte Carlo. I'm going to whack a bit of Andy Murray on and a bit Dominic team later, I think. He's playing gasket. So I'm going to give that one a watch as well. But this week later on in the week we do have some tennis that we're actually going to be at, which is very exciting. Exciting. Coventry, not croydon. We're going to Coventry for the Billie Jean King cup qualifier between France and a Great Britain. So the winning team from that will go to the Billie Jean King cup finals, which will be in November this year, so we will be there. Tennis weekly will be there at the Coventry building society arena on Friday and Saturday. You guys are very experienced are going to be in California, but it will be my debut. We'll show you the ropes. We're tried and tested. We're hardcore. We know we know what's going on, but yeah, it should be an interesting one. I mean, well, obviously we're going to be doing some we'll be doing some live shows from there to recap the action each day. But what's your gut feeling at the moment with GB versus France? Because you got to say France assuming the top players play and they've got Garcia and they go in as the favorites would you say? Depends how much noise you're going to make in the arena Joel. Cheering GB on. Yeah, if Garcia is there, I mean, I would say France are the favorites, but you can never underestimate home support and we know that the likes of Harriet dart. They do bring it. They do. Yeah, she's had some great wins in Billie Jean King cup. So I don't think it's one way traffic. No, I think there will be some good opportunities. But I think I just hope that it's close. Obviously, I hope that GP get the win. But you do just think that if Garcia is able to pick up two corneille is also the second highest ranked player, I just think that we've learned from our experience at Billie Jean King cup tournaments that you just want to see live matches. I think that's the live matches and live tennis. Yeah. I mean, there's some other ties going on as well all around the world. We've got USA Austria. We've got Slovakia, Italy, Germany versus Brazil, Kazakhstan versus Poland. Spain versus Mexico, Ukraine versus chat republic and Canada versus Belgium and Slovenia versus Romania. So low happening. Are there any other ties you will particularly looking at thinking that's going to be a great one if given the lineups? I was looking forward to Kazakhstan Poland because of eager and Rebecca, but obviously that would not be happening because eager's pulled out of that one. I think Tamara pesch is actually playing for Austria. So I think I'll be I'll be watching that one against the USA. If she plays, I think that would be interesting and then Ukraine republic in a neutral location. That's quite an unprecedented situation. And I think it would be great to see how that one goes because there's some great players from both sides playing there. Yeah, that's being held in turkey, the Ukraine tie. So yeah, nice that they've been able to find a house for that one. We'll see how it goes and we'll be back on the weekend with our live updates and commentary from there. So looking forward to it. Yeah, it's going to be very, very, very exciting. And if any of our listeners are in the Coventry arena on both days and they want to they want to see the tennis weekly team. Yeah, just drop us a note on social media on an email. We always happy to meet our listeners. So yeah, just give us a shout, but we're going to wrap it up there for this catch up from the tennis weekly podcast listeners. I hope you've enjoyed our latest episode. Remember to subscribe to

"It's a very unique event I feel because of the altitude, out in South America, and it definitely did throw up some results that were very surprising. I think there has to be for me personally, there are questions on the draw and the quality. What do you mean, Joel? I think this is a great lineup. You may have just called it budgeter before. But I will say though, I think defending a title on the WTA Tour that's just a very, very hard thing to do. I mean, looking at some of the players or the lack of players who've done that recently, it just shows how impressive that is. She on tech defended in Doha this year, she on tech in Rome as well last year, 21, 22 and Fernández in Monterey. But really, that's just very, very slim picking. So for Maria to kind of do the back to back in Bogotá, regardless of who she's had to face in terms of rankings, et cetera. It's been a very, very impressive showing from her and it's amazing how I feel like she's aging like a fine wine. You know, she's almost got this, I think this new lease of life is a tennis player that she is certainly for me like a late bloomer or a late developer and this title game just I think adds to that those credentials. I think that's the ultimate compliment telling her she's aging like a fine wine. Fine wine is lovely. But we did have a British semifinalist, didn't we out in Bogotá, which is Francesca Jones. Amazing. Making her way through getting a couple of wins and then eventually losing to Maria in straight sets. You know, this is the type of, I guess, showing, we'd love to see more from fan Jones, and she doesn't always get the opportunity to play on the WTA Tour and even as a two 50. But given the lineup, she was able to kind of get that chance, and she made the most of it really. How impressed were you with what you saw from Fran Jones this week? It's quite specific, I'd say that as we said about the conditions. So I think it is a really good result. I think she actually had two weeks in Colombia prior to the ITF level. Something that I'm not sure I want to admit that I did know. But she has so she's definitely got used to the condition. So I think that really showed because some of the players that she got wins against if we look at some of the names, so there's Diaz, who's a fantastic player. A 6 one set is very kind of surprising when you look at that head to head. And then taking out two seeds across her four matches. So I think it is definitely surprising, but we have seen that she's able to do some great things. And hopefully she can build on this. And if not, she can stay another couple of weeks in Colombia and see if there's any more events you can be playing. Yeah, and some of our listeners may not know much about Fran Jones, especially if you're not following British tennis, but just a reminder, this is a player who was born with quite a rare genetic condition, so she actually only has a thumb and three fingers on each hand. It's a condition known as, I think, extra dactyl ectodermal dysplasia, but I mean, regardless of her condition, she's playing great tennis, but it's almost, when you see her making like semis and having results like this, you do, it does make you appreciate her, you know, her prowess on the court even more, given the fact that she does have this condition that she lives with. So yeah, fantastic. I feel like the WTA could maybe if franchise would be comfortable with it, like show like the or promote her in terms of the I feel like the genuine adversity she's had to overcome in order to kind of compete and show her credentials on the tennis court because it's a fantastic achievement and a fantastic story and there has definitely been some down moments. It's been, I think, frustrating. I think over the last year or so, injuries have just really stopped her getting on the tennis court and really kind of achieving her potential. So I really hope that she can kind of just continue just showing her level and who knows maybe get to a point where she's playing regularly on the WTA Tour and from a British perspective who knows maybe even ask the questions and push into that Billie Jean King cup team because I've certainly seen a few people this week talk about talk about these results and wonder like in the future. I mean, they're not always going to be on indoor hardcore, for example. We might be away on clay somewhere. Does France Fran Jones enter the conversation alongside players like Harriet dart, Katie swan, Katie boulter, et cetera? Well, this result definitely shows the potential because I don't think many of those players have actually reached a semifinal at two 50 level. I don't think dart has this year. And I think that the other player who's kind of showing some good form is obviously Jodi berwick at the moment. He's been picking up some good wins. So it would be great if I could get some wildcards for some of the smaller grass tournaments because I think that would be something where you are at the level that she's in the rankings. It is very difficult to get. Into some of the bigger tournaments. So even if it was just for some of the smaller ones, I still think that would be something that everyone would like to see. Yeah, let's look at the ATP tournaments in just a second. One other result I was drawn to in the draw, former French Open finalist Sara errani, losing love and won in the first round to Alina avana cyan yeah, do you think so around you should just maybe hang up the racket for goodness now? It's not a positive result. I've got to be honest. I think as soon as you saw the draw, you had her name, penciled out, waiting, waiting for that result to

"And managing his career in conjunction with his longtime manager Matt gentry and this move means the dissolution to some extent of Andy Murray's management company, the one that he and Matt gentry started together 77. Management. This is I mean, I know this is very, very sort of niche inside a tennis news, but for those niche inside of people, this is quite interesting, David. Yeah, and normally we wouldn't break or cover news of a player's movement between management companies. That's not really that interesting to the vast majority of listeners and it's not even that interesting to us a lot of the time, but this is interesting. I mean, yes, they're disbanding Andy Murray's agency 77. They're disbanding the tennis division completely. They are continuing their representation of footballers, which they have among their number Caroline wear from Real Madrid. And a number of male footballers as well, Ryan porteus from Watford Jack harkness from rangers, but their tennis division, which included Andy Murray, obviously, at the forefront of it, and other British players, Katie Swann, Harriet dart, Paul gerb Aiden McHugh, they're going to be looking for alternate representation. I know that 77 under Matt's guidance is going to be helping them try to find some new representation. But I think the reason this is significant is because this was Andy Murray's kind of baby really from when he won Wimbledon in 2013, so nearly ten years ago, he and Matt named this agency 77 because it was 77 years since a British man had won Wimbledon last man being Fred Perry. And so they started this agency, he previously been with 19 entertainment run by Simon fuller, you know, the people who run X Factor and all that sort of thing and match was working for them and they went out on their own and they created this agency to I think considerable success in terms of it becoming a booty cage and see which represented Murray and sort of created his brand. He got his own logo. He got his own, he's got his own clothing label with castore, who have now branched out into football as well and become quite big players in the Premier League. And he always struck you as the one of the big four that went out and did his own thing. He wasn't with the big agency. He was creating his own thing and he was also looking at the afterlife of a tennis player. Wanting to be a mentor to other athletes and certainly when those other players that I mentioned Harriet dart Katie swan Paul job were signing up, they all referenced Andy Murray being a part of the appeal of it of having the chance to have his ear to have his advice. He spoke a lot about that too. So this is kind of significant and as much as well, what does it mean for that? Does Andy Murray is he moving in a different direction altogether? I suspect not I suspect he will still want to do those kind of things, but maybe in a different way. I don't know that for a fact. But the fact is he's joined IMG because they are pretty much sure things commercially and you look at players that have had careers that have extended beyond tennis like Maria Sharapova, Lena, several others that max eisen, but the IMG head has been influential with. He's now got Andy Murray and I suppose I think it's a bit of a shame in a way that 77 in tennis is not going to be a thing anymore because I liked the idea of it. I like the idea of Andy Murray being a guide for players. But when you look at those players that they'd signed up, I had a look at their rankings when they started when they first joined the agency and now and they're not that different. They haven't gone up that much and the truth is it's really hard commercially to make big deals for players that are ranked a 130 or a 150. We often hear about players how it's not that many players making a lot of money. I think all those players are doing fine from being top 5 British players and they'll ever good money as prize money at various points and for being part of the Billie Jean King cup team and all that sort of thing, but you're not going to be bringing in big sponsor endorsements. So I imagine it was probably quite difficult to really make a go at that. And yeah, just shows that the nanny Murray's he's looking further afield so many of them end up at IMG or similar agencies to maximize, especially in the latter stages of their career. Yeah. And good luck to all those plays that with much injuries hope we'll be looking for alternate representation and good luck to Andy Murray. At the giants that are IMG. I bring you mascot news, folks. Today's mascot is poppy. And poppy is the universe being kind to me because I needed a bernese mountain dog today. We met. My Vegas come down. We met two davids. Yes. We met too. Well, you observed to I sort of dived headfirst into two. You don't see two Bernie's mountain dogs very often. When you, when the opportunity arises, David, you've got to grab it with both hands. Poppy is 8 years old, loves cuddling, chatting, eating, and long naps, and she's owned by Elizabeth Desmond, poppies are both poppies are one of my favorite flowers and bernese mountain dogs are one of my favorite dogs. And needless to say, I love poppy so much. So thank you Elizabeth. For sending her to me today, I needed that. I also bring you competition news. And Steve Fergie's international tennis tours to win a trip to Indian Wells next year to see all four semifinals men's and women's and both finals, hotel stay included, transportation chin from the venue, an incredible prize package. And it has been won by Ron buckmire from Los Angeles, California, and we met Ron, didn't we at the Steve fogels booth in Indian Wells and we remember Ron, because his socks matched his, the trim on his branded tennis podcast top. And by remember that and I'm very, very pleased for Ron. And he had Billie Jean King star matching glasses, didn't he? Yeah, he was a cool cat. And I really nice chap as well, and one of so many lovely people that we had the chance to meet. Yeah, he's going to be back. And he's going to be back in style, so delighted for him. Yeah, so please for Ron. You've won a competition, and you've been called a cool cat by David lore. First person ever, I think, maybe. It should be called a cool cat. Big. Big day for Ron. I've never used the expression before, Ron, so.
