Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League is self-explanatory
"Suicide Squad kill the justice. League is about the suicide squad trying to kill the Justice League. The other big video game news from D., C. Fan Dome was learning a lot more about suicide squad kill the Justice League from rock steady games the developer of Arkham asylum city night. Suicide Squad kill the Justice League is officially its title and game is about the suicide squad trying to kill the Justice League the trailer for the game opened up on a decimated metropolis. There was a weird glowing giant purple skull ship in the distance and it cuts to Harley Quinn on a rooftop goofing off and making jokes in response to just the General Radio Chatter. Then the rest of the suicide squad was revealed along with Harley Quinn. This game will also feature Captain Boomerang with a pretty intense Australian. Dead Shot and King Shark they had some comedic banter making fun of dead shot for claiming he never misses well King Shark absent mindedly popped green lantern and Batman balloons, which is interesting to me because there have been side quests about popping balloons in the past arkham games. And then Amanda Waller came on the line telling them they had to get to work or she would blow them up. Was All pre rendered but the next part of the trailer gave a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of Gameplay Harley Quinn zipped around using some kind of Hook Shot zip-line thing and used her bat mainly to attack these weird purple enemies. King Shark looked slow but carried a big machine gun dead shot had a jet pack did a lot of shooting and Captain Boomerang had some kind of quick teleporting ability while he was also throwing boomerangs and other weapons. And all of this happened while outkast's B O b bombs over Baghdad played on top of it. After finishing off the group, they quipped that what they did probably will knock a few years off the sentence and then Harley remembered that there was an Alpha target they needed to pursue. And that's when Superman showed up with his classic Yellow Belt and red. Underwear look. At first, it seemed like he saved a helicopter pilot from a crash, but then his eyes start glowing purple and he killed the pilot prompting these suicide squad to realize they are meant to kill the Justice League, the trailer ended with. Superman. Not really reacting to getting hit in the head with some kind of pipe that guess King Shark through and it revealed a twenty twenty to release window for playstation five. Series. Exit PC. After that trailer host will Arnett revealed a few more details about the game with the voice cast from suicide squad who were in character Harley. Quinn specifically referenced getting excited about killing Batman and Captain Boomerang mentioned the flash. After that game director Sefton Hill showed up. There was this whole silly conceit that will Arnett was being transported around to his hosting duties and Hill had joked that they had just shipped him a green screen which was pretty good joke but he answered a few more questions. The game does play S- in the chronology. So it is technically a sequel to Batman Arkham night it's going to be a lot different, but narrative is moving the plot forward. They decided to do a suicide squad game because they consider their games character-driven and the suicide squad highlights. One of the things DC has always been particularly good at villains they appreciated how flawed they were. It also gave them the opportunity to create an interesting impossible scenario, which is, of course, hunting down the Justice League. The gameplay will be a hybrid of hero empowerment action and Gunplay, which is definitely a unique for rock steady Batman does not use guns. The game will offer up to four player Co op, but will totally be playable single player. If you're playing alone, the AI will handle your other members and you will apparently be able to swap between them seamlessly. You can also go back and forth between single and multiplayer over the course of game it is also an open world. That world being metropolis. The twenty twenty to release window really surprised me. Batman Arkham night released in two thousand fifteen they lent it a lot of support post release but I think it's pretty safe to assume they have been working on it at some capacity since that game released since arkham night released. A suicide squad game was also teased as early as two thousand thirteen where there was something at the end of Batman Arkham origins. So to learn it is nearly two years away. Surprised me. I'm not really disappointed. Honestly, I'm happy to wait just surprised I would have assumed it would be

"There is so much room for variants on how people perform their gender in this that like that is something that is so important to have a conversation between people. Viewing this media and the media itself. Yeah no I completely agree. I think that's the because especially in times. Where Trans and non binary characters didn't. It's not that they didn't exist in media it's that they weren't either explicitly stated or When they were it was a joke and it was a whole thing. That was how a lot of us figured things out was how are these. Binary system representations playing with gender itself. And I think that's the best way to sort of look at a movie like this or any other movie that again doesn't have any explicit trends non binary representation To say like okay. How can we look at it from that Lens? How are they treating these binary? How are they treating the binary representation yet so talk to me a little bit about To me a little bit about that. What are what are some of the ways that you picked up on in the movie that we're just like they're they're playing with Jenner performance in a new or different or interesting way so the one that lake has been sort of all in all over the Internet that I feel like we have to talk about and we'll talk about some of the ones that hasn't necessarily been is the The gaze of the camera eventually on Harley Quinn And the differences between how she's filmed and presented in this movie versus. She was filmed in presented in suicide squad. Like in suicide squad Was that Zack. Snyder who directed that? I don't think it was Snyder. But it was part of the whole Snyder initiative with EMC so they were pulling from a lot of that even if it wasn't him specifically have to look that up David Air A show so suicide squads directed by a man Harley Quinn is meant to be a sex icon in that Specifically for straight since men and it's clear she she has a dog collar on her shirt is torn so lake the bottom of speaking out and she's got completely impractical shorts and not even like fun completely impractical there. They just look uncomfortable like I just worry for her that entire movie because she is fighting evil with the biggest. Wedgie they So I went and saw it at Alamo Draft House and I. I Love Alamo. This story I shared on Rattles Raiders. Bagel basketball just like quickly. But they had in the beginning this whole thing about like Harley shorts from suicide squad and being like look there panties. It's fine if you just WANNA put her in panties but don't put a belt on it just like just tell us this is what you're doing. Superman fought crime than underwear. Why can't Harley Quinn Yeah? Superman did need a belt to show us the no. He's not wearing underpants. These the the strong button tights. Yes yes Oh yes definitely what they are. What the underwhelming outside that makes you stronger. I Guess Obama an all your legs just need more containing you have to put it. That's the thing. Superman didn't have the blue tights underneath before and people were just like. Oh you need to shave those or you need to cover them buddy. Sorry.
Birds of Prey: and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn
"The real question though Rachel is were you familiar with the birds of prey and these characters prior to the film. So I knew I've done a lot more of like the Marvel Mc you blah blah blah. But I knew a lot of the DC characters from the animated series like Justice League and Justice League unlimited and teen titans and like the the original Batman animated series. So I knew a lot of these characters but not in the context of birds of prey. yeah very cool my myself Black Canary I learned about a lot from the justice video gains from the CW show Arrow. Which I it's honestly it's not my favorite. Wdc Show but at the same time boy it started at all and I do love. It is your favorite. My favorite is honestly the flash the FLASHER supergirl. I've heard those are the two. Warren really likes them. I forget to watch the. I've heard really good things. Yeah no the flash. It's tough because if you're not the person that like 'cause Arrow has it's weird funky shit to but like if you're not a fan of the weird and has like weird you might not like the Flash. I love it and honestly yogurt. Sawn has become one of the greatest villains of ANY SUPERHERO BASED MEDIA. I've seen And also his name is. Yo- barred thon boy. Do I love. It really is a good name so we please So one of the things that like what just to start off one of the things I loved about birds of Prey. That is put me off a lot of. Dc stuff is that. I don't love when shows have people that are all attractive in the same sort of way yeah I know where everyone's like a polished millennial or polished older person or Polish like teenager Here's a guy with short hair named Chris. Yeah again you know. Here are all these rails in model tall women. Here's you know all these instagram models doing a show. It's like it doesn't. There's something about it that always takes me out of it a little bit and one of the things. I loved about birds of prey. That will get more into. Is that Everyone was such sessia unique character like they very much came from their own styles. Their own half. They weren't having to in a world together because they were a world together. Yeah so let me ask you this. Can you sum up the story of the movie since we're talking about a little bit in a lot of the ideas of what we love about it How would you sum up the movie? Go Rachel Go. Yeah so high summit up is on the movie starts where a Harley Quinn and joker just broken up. And she's narrating delightfully sort of like how they got together. How the relationship was going sort of all the benefits. She got from being in a relationship with him and now she's the process of grieving that relationship and sort of the the steps. She's taking like when she won't admit to it when she's just sad about it and when she starts to like do something and like work through it And in that process it sort of opens up this This space for a new Super Villain to start to take hold of the city and when that happens it starts to bring all these other characters a cop down on their luck of secret character that is revealed later in the story and even like the the evil guys Driver come into play to handle all these things. It's actually beautiful. A how like all these people get woven into the same

"A two thousand thirteen volume of the Harley Quinn series. Takes this idea one. Step further making Harley Quinn into a full on anti hero and completely eliminating Batman and the joker from her story line here. She has returned to her work in psychology and move to coney island where she is a landlady and plays in a local roller Derby leak. She also starts on again off again relationship with her longtime best friend. Poison Ivy likely inspired by the increasing normalization of LGBTQ relationships and US society and media but whatever the broader cultural factors that played into the change for many holly fans it boiled down to get another major and empowering step for the girl scouts of abuse and into her own identity Harley. Quinn has definitely changed with the Times. But as we mentioned when DC characters start crisscrossing between storylines sometimes their characters develop in inconsistent ways. And that's been case for Harley Quinn Weiland twenty ten series Harley Quinn. She's moved on from both her experiences of abuse and her villainy she's so lucky and some other parts of the DC universe namely the two thousand Sixteen Live Action Film Suicide Squad in which she portrayed by actress Margot Robie. Although Robbie's performance garnered approval from critics and Harley fans alike the film as a whole was largely panned perhaps in part because it presents. A bit of backtrack for Harley rather than the liberated anti hero if DC's contemporary comex the film introduces Holly in the scene described at the start of this episode. She's a federal prisoner and she still in love with the joker throughout the we do see her building relationships with other villains exhibiting strength and bravery and ultimately towing that anti hero line. She has landed on her comics. She also seems intent on remembering where she comes from and insist to a fellow villain that he should own his past but these flashes of real character a contextualised by the overall narrative inconsistency of the film and unfortunate tendency to rely on two dimensional lazy characterization in Harleys case that characterization leans on a dark version of the manic pixie dream. Girl stereotype the excitement of her character stems from her kookiness and unpredictability. Which is all about an exterior gays about the pleasure of the viewer rather than the character herself and all had drives and desires seem to revolve around her man. This characterization culminates in a confusing scene. Near the end of the film the primary antagonists the entrance fills harleys mind with images of what she could be if she gives permission for the government. This is presumably. Harleys alternate desire the ultimate temptation in the sun-filled suburban kitchen. It's the morning holly's had is full of colors. Her skin is glowing with health and has smile is gentle and happy in her arms is a baby and by signed is her man the joker but he too looks different. He's clean cut in a suit. His dark hair is slicked back neatly. And he's bending down to gently kiss another child. This is it the dream everything holly wants. That is to say a happy quiet life with her man. Then something just as strange as the vision happens. Holly rejects the insurances temptation. Apparently this is because as far as she knows. The joker is dead. The enchant truce is evil. And she is brave and strong enough to stand up for humanity and her villain compatriots in the face of true evil. She sees through the fantasy this some of the classic Harley Quinn Intelligence here as well as strengthen independence that she has gained in the DC comics but considering the way the movie has portrayed her otherwise it feels a bit like a pandering Gulf power moment rather than a real commitment to a truly emancipated Harley. Still Holly Story is far from done. It's a rations. Just keep coming and a new two thousand nine thousand nine TV show and twenty. Two thousand film. Appearance are changing things for the character yet again coming up another. Holly Quin this time for the girls now back to the story in the two thousands the abused Harlequin of the nineteen ninety s Batman. Storylines had several pitchy unity's to develop and change in the DC comics. She became an increasingly strong and independent figure by calling it quits but the joker she was able to find her off as an anti hero rather than a villain in the DC live action films character was more regressive while it didn't take her back to her mold as it left her freedom and independence mired in Dark Manic Pixie. Dream Girl stereotype. One that seems predicated on male fantasies but the suicide squad character has been extremely popular and not just with the boys that's impart because of Margot Robie talent at playing the role with Chom poignant's and possess she leaned into the camp of it all and gave what many critics have called the most impressive performance of the film leaving room for yet another Harlequin on February seventh twenty twenty a new Harlequin film opened in theaters. Birds OF PREY. And the fantabulous emancipation of one Harley Quinn first of all it's notable that the film is produced by Mago Robbie herself and that she has been actively working on the film through most of its development. It's also written and directed by women unlike suicide squad and it features a Moseley female cost. That doesn't mean the film won't fall into some of the traps of suicide squad. And other DC films that have been panned by critics but longtime Harley fans will likely be happy to see that the film is at least emancipating her from the joker and getting her a bit more up to speed with the comic for Carly. But the emancipation of the birds of Prey Harley Quinn may be about more than just losing her man and going Solo. Holly has self Nerissa life in this film as in. She's actually doing voiceover narration. That means more agency over her story and potentially more liberated holly we also see holly working with other so called. Dame's in Gotham city and building. Apparently supportive genuine relationships with them. She tells another character. You are so cool. And there's no irony there. She Serious on top of that. Holly is less sexualize wearing shorts instead of underwear throughout most of the film and a loose atop a small change that signals a deeper shift in the cameras gays when it staring down Holly. We're here for Robbie's acting not her body as a ways in the comic world each new piece of the character puzzle integrates with the pre existing ones and then takes his own liberties. But even if the film doesn't bring us home with an amazing live action Harley. We have another. Yes another Harley to rely on for the independent onscreen villain it's teasing the holly of DC's new online animated series Harley Quinn.

"And the joker. A one of the most recognizable superhero villain pairings. There is they've been around since one thousand nine hundred thirty nine and nineteen forty respectively and ever since they've been an integral part of the DC Universe Harley. Quinn is a much later edition to the mythos. She was created in Nineteen ninety-two by writer. Paul Dini and animator Bruce Timm for the show Batman the animated series at the time her prospects for becoming a central DC antagonised not great rather than being a villain in her own right. She was a convenient female sidekick for the joker. The quintessential mall or gangsters female companion. She was there as backup. But like every good malt. Holly can be anything you want her to be. Which has allowed her to move and change across time and medium hints of this potential. Were evident from her very first. Nineteen Nine Hundred Ninety two appearance in episode twenty of Batman the animated series. We're in a small office. Our attention focused on the joker. Whose drooling voice is Scheming. Up Some new plan or other then the camera pans out. And we see her Harley Quinn sitting on the jokers desk painting her nails. She's dressed in a black and red just a costume. The first words out of her mouth or speculation about the reason joker wants to commit his next crime. It IS TO LAUGH MR J. This comes out in a Twangy Deep New England accent a far cry from the jokers own educated transatlantic tones. She's asking for his his approval. Her next few lines enthusiastic affirmations of the jokers genius punctuated by whistling clapping. This is the original Harley. Quinn the site chick. The Mall Mall the Seagull Villain..

"Prison is full of cruelty. Violence men pummeling each other to a pulp. The evil is palpable. Inmates and guards alike look like hardened criminals which makes the inhabitants of one giant free standing cage. Stand out all the more. It's a woman. She's hanging upside down hair stringy but still clearly blonde and as we pan out. We see that she's dancing on makeshift aerial silks strung up against bars of her cage for all the grind. She's beautiful strong graceful with perfect bone structure and little clothing to obscure her body. When the gods approach with this stomping footsteps and groupthink all we see is contrast. The girl is something. Wild fascinating sexy. Something these men want but can never have or understand the messages driven home when she makes contact with one of the guards and licks the bars of her cage he responds. Oh my God you are really in bad shape upstairs lady the Oh my God is dripping with desire. So is the regretful. Accusation of crazy but that one keeps him at a distance then when she asks him to come play with her like a sad sexualize child we learned the other reason. He keeps his distance. She put five of the Gods in the hospital last week. This is Harley Quinn. She sexy she's unstable and she's one of the most popular villains in the modern comic book world..
'Birds of Prey' Review: Nihilism for Fun and Profit
"Movie reviews let's jump right into it Eric how you doing okay all right Steve how are you good all right so we can see prepare children we got the movie reviews here which we do every Sunday we'll talk box office as well we'll catch up when I was off last week for the Academy Awards but Steve you did see birds of prey the Harley Quinn thing yes hi would you think well I mean it this is a film that once very desperately for us to believe that it's a G. and twisted in the NBA wanted so much to kind of forget to actually be edgy and twisted it keeps telling us how it deals with the the the and that's not to say that the the latest DC comics movie century isn't doesn't have its moments but certainly Margot Robbie's is was among the highlights of this sort of a spin off of suicide squad and she was certainly one of the highlights of that film but it is fun at times I I I like I can honestly say I can't think of a movie I've seen more recently they are seen so many people work so hard to convince me they're having a good time and yet the it's sort of extraordinarily conventional at the same time unlike unlike suicide squad which is sort of put together by a government agency the birds of prey kind of come together more naturally joker isn't actually in the sermon and by the way I should make it clear we're talking at the joker not the current dot that most recent joker iteration but the jerit letto joker from a couple years ago but he's not in this it doesn't matter but that doesn't stop the screenwriter who Christine at Hudson who did bumble bee which is actually a pretty good script from from sort of leaning into his influence on this whole story when were re introduced a Harley Quinn she and and joke or have just broken up which apparently means that any protection that she has being affiliated with him is gone so suddenly all the criminals in Gotham when the killer and I'm not exactly sure why but she has done some horrible things in the past I guess one of the people she has wronged is there is a crime boss this play by you and McGregor who goes by the name black mask something of sort of a flashy party boy E. but he kind of seems to have one speed in one elevated volume when he speaks he basically like rip Taylor in a black skull mask so he's more obnoxious than threatening the the hit the side kick that's played by Christmas Cena whose actually way more sort of deviant sinister and then black mass gives but we don't really get to see him that much but the the what happens is that they these these email characters all kind of come together some of them are more superhero oriented like a crossbow wielding huntress is played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead and then there's care during black Canary's played by journey small at bell and there's a young girl name Cass who's play ballads a Bosko is a police detective Renee mon twenty it was played by Rosie Perez and I gotta say of all of all the of all those characters Winstead in parens really kind of stand out I guess not surprisingly and it's it's actually kind of really great just to be reminded how much of a presence Rosie Perez can be and that when given the chance and given this kind of exposure and and sort of elevated in this way there is a far more interesting aspects of birds of prey than just the action of the actions not bad there's sort of a subtext about what happens to people when they sustain prolonged abuse or other forms of violence most of lead characters are suffering from some form of PTSD or another in the sort of find unique ways to cope with that it's a it's a shared condition that brings these women together and bonds them and makes them not only surprisingly strong as a team but but it's also sort of a new weird little group therapy thing the film doesn't address this directly but it's sort of hard not to hard to miss it like get a you know a like most things in birds of prey it's not exactly subtle but anyway the the I guess of the action sequences are kind of a mixed bag of sort of standard issue cases in explosions in fighting and with a few sort of clever original and and a little bit bloody idea sort of sprinkled in but a few case you're in curious birds of prey is actually yes very rated R. the some there's some gory violence there's some liberal usage of four letter words but I'm guessing the under age folks who will be speaking into this movie will not be traumatized by anything that they see it's got a great Sir high energy soundtrack to really bombastic score by Daniel Pembleton and and enough sort of deviance from Robbie and company to the keep it interesting mobile when the problem with the film is the bad guy even the Gregory is terrible in this he looks like he's having a good time but you know the thing I hate more than anything else in the world in movies is watching someone have fun yeah because it does not this I don't know I don't know what someone on a roller coaster I want to get on the roller coaster like so that's sort of the problem here and okay when DC finally figures out their bad guy problem they're gonna probably for anyway but that to me it's a mixed review but but that's about I got a I don't know if it's positive or negative all

Maybe we'll see extended edition the awesome a deleted scene extend addition or something like that I mean they do. It is the same. It's the same Harley so it's the same joker from suicide squad. They were going to use his footage from suicide squad but they decided against actually putting him in the film You do see a version of the joker from behind and it has the same style. Same hair slicked back and everything But it's just really quick. Some people are even speculating that the animation at the beginning because the animation of parley and the joker are more classic Comic Book. They're like oh they're already doing away with jared leto joker by making this this comic Book Accurate. Looking Joker in this animation. While it's like there was not that. Co Margot Robbie never portrayed that comic book accurate Harley Quinn except for that one shot that mirrored the Alex Ross Tuxedo joker and Harley Quinn. Like that's it so you know. Margot Robbie personified that version of Harley Quinn either so like it was a stylized animation just to you know just to give you the lowdown on her character Really fast from literally conception to the time she became Harley Quinn her to once you talked about this earlier like she's telling the story she's narrating all of this so it's almost kind of like we're looking inside of her head like she sees it as a cartoon animation..

"Harley Quinn and friends are back on the big screen with birds of prey Margot Robbie's comic book villain from suicide squad teams up with a bunch of equally twisted women to wreak havoc on Gotham in the movie guy is on our come on his line because he is stuck flooded out so bring this is the first comic book film of the year what do you think I'll just cut to the chase actually a lot of fun with it this is a like I like great mentioned this is based on a Harley Quinn after the movie suicide squad a lot of people are hoping that this would be better than suicide squad and I would argue that if birds of prey it would you be watching the screen went blank at the two minute mark it would still be better than suicide squad that was one of one of the worst movies comic book movies I've ever seen although Margot Robbie was just stand out that film's I'm glad she got our own movie this is an ultra violent bubble gum girl band superhero flick but its fuel on tons of funk and jazz it's a mess guards to the story to the kind of hops all over the place is not super coherent but the explosive kind of kick **** sixties demented T. but do gooders pretty fun to watch it again Margot Robbie is to stand out in this one Baker plays the filling he's actually fantastic as well but Margot increases that anarchists Corey server character and we actually slows down it don't have to spend some time on the spirit of sisterhood and team work appointing dizziness superhero movie this actually directed by a female to cast is largely female and this weekend it's gonna make all the money is gone but sometimes dumping decline and this is one of those times I give birds of prey as solid be into that kind of stuff comic book clicks I highly

"In this podcast okay so you're saying she took on a ramp down version of superman in a boxing match. Okay so that's on a full power version of superman superman also has a monster moral compass and he does not want him. Come close to hitting someone anywhere in a boxing match was an agreed apollo. Title match absolutely tried to hit a boxing match on. How many boxing matches have you done interest have i. I've done <hes> over one hundred wrestling matches but no boxing day so and and not to disrespect your experience because i know there's no way to do that. Is you know you got put on a pedestal one of the few things that's great about rakes by it's in a boxing match and i'm talking more like sparring but with like redeploying when you have someone who overmach empowers what have you you've got to bring down down everything incredibly and that's if you're a nice person and you have a good moral compass who has that more than rates superman he in a boxing match. You would never want to ask bentley. We take off someone's head or what have you. I'm just saying that's how it's written for it. He knew what he was getting into. He knew the rules that he it was really that big of a deal he would not have taken okay so let me get get to my point number three because we're not horley dissimilar but there's two things about harley quinn that again i i really liked the character probably coin too so as not to put her down okay so black widow again about eighty to eighty five years. Maybe ninety years worth of training in psychological manipulation <hes> what's called soft and tear agree interrogation where you can get some they have no idea they're being interrogated <hes> and she's also got these psychological implants like these commands that help or kind of see through you know to look for things to look for you know. She's been trained to look for weakness to look for anything. Unpredictability got at that means. Gotta do something to take advantage of unpredictability that means. I can't sean stand how to take care of it again. We're talking years worth of hardcore training and experience before she even came inexperience all these years of combat with like superheroes superheroes as far as opponent. She's taken on and taken out. Let's kind of go there so she took out batmans a great example but she took out katherine america and the way she did is she used manipulation to kind of get him to go in a certain direction. Throw a shield leave himself open. He blasts her. She blasts him while she's he's open he. He gets a show back says hi blocked it and he's like wait what and turns around and there. She is behind him shoot. Some full blast in the back of the head takes them out full win. I'm not saying i can't take up like what i'm just saying. Black widow did in fact with her blast with a the the widow's bite and her jilani and her tactics read captain american said got. I think i know what to do. Did it okay a summer one number two. She took out wonder man. Now this one i keep bringing up because wonder man is a superman levels often considered like you know not the most most heroic whatever because he's his background is that he wants to be a hollywood actor and he does stunts and all kinds of and by the way he was an adventure for quite some time but he is super powerful. He's like his his body was actually the template for vision in the comic books and he's got an energy basing but he is like he's thor base power. He's he's got flight. He's got all these other things. He's he's an energy..

"I got you and she's like oh. That's that's what i wanted you to do. And then she judo flips him over and beats the living bejesus out of him. She's got many many wins over bam other characters before i get to the big one here is <hes> <hes> she has defeated the midnight or who is an excellent character a very super enhance hero who can who had trouble with her because she's so unpredictable. He is combat algorithms if you will there imbedded inside of him couldn't figure out what she was going to do next. She has a victory over damian wayne. Who is the most powerful robin of this entire world trained by ninjas from the age of what is it james two-three who three we've done him on the show before from birth from birth and she just straight out defeated him she <hes> one of my favorite moments and using the unpredictability deception she beat wonder the woman one on one and a fight now it was a little deception. It's not like she just stood in front of her and they punched it out. She pretended to be a flower delivery. Service a person at a time when wonder woman knew that someone was coming after her and somehow wonder woman answered the door when she knocked on it instead flowers because he couldn't be that stupid and womb harley just takes her out right right there but my favorite one and this is the craziest one of all of the above is harlequin one v one defeated superman it a boxing contest now now if you're familiar and i'm sure you are with the mohammad-ali versus superman comic book very very iconic comic book. This was throw a shoutout throwback to that. I think so in that comic originally superman brought down his powers and fought muhammad ali one on one in the boxing ring. They recreated that for whatever reason they decided you don't need reasons is right. It's fun. Let's do it. Harlequin puts on the boxing gloves lights up against superman whose ramped his powers down a little bit. Let's keep it real. He could melt her face with two seconds. 'cause he's superman superman but in a fair fight against the man of steel who is still invulnerable who still is very very strong strong as he wants to be. They had a boxing match and superman got got roughed up by harlequin in boxing match and there are not too many characters of quote unquote upper street level power which would both of these characters are that can claim a victory of any kind over superman. She beat superman and that's my point number three <hes> to you chew on that indeed. May i ask them rebuttals before they were perfect. Okay how many times batman beat harley quinn. He's he's headwinds ends. I mean obviously he's brought her to justice several times. I mean it's the nature of the batman character because let's face it and this is the one of the big problems trying to argue for batman in the who would win battle this. This is a chance encounter. No previous knowledge batman needs. It's time to prepare so if they just meet in a chance encounter harlequin and batman harlequin tends to defeat batman but when given time to prepare era and he's decided like i'm gonna go get. Her ban will win that every time because he's frigging batman. I'll actually disagree with that. I'll say the harlequin does have wins over batman but the vast majority of the time prepared or not prepared. Batman atman has beaten harley quinn. No i'm not here. I'm who am i specifically examples of her cleaning her clock and that's enough for the who all right who am i but just like a batman fanatic. Okay okay you know whatever so you have reason to lie. Sure wonder woman so that was a non that was a surprise environment wasn't like straight up. You're taking you on your taking me on where green fight. Let's go and the point i want to argue with that is one the unpredictability who's to say. She can't surprise black widow is something similar but also to knock out wonder woman requires..

"And the fact that she's dealing with somebody who is a little bit weaker than her normal opponent works to her advantage as far as just knowledge experiences would go. That's basically all. I have for my point number two. She's got she's got enhanced. Strength due to the serums for poison ivy the enhanced speed agility healing factor immunity to poisons all that good stuff. That's harley quinn equal if not a little bit better than black widow. That's my point number two. What do you say about them well. I'm rolling over my head here the concept step that sometimes if you if you have a resercher comes out someone who is highly trained in something you know a beserk or who wouldn't necessarily know the the the fighting style could still perhaps get a shot or two in but also the person who's got the the training in in theory would would win that but it's it's an interesting. I'm hearing that that harley quinn has got all this skill set that she's acquired. I'm just thinking that black widow book back her training. It's an interesting challenge both have value and i would say james you can back me up here. There's actually an interesting emmy fight that i watched on the internet not very long ago. The two it was a knockout in five seconds and maybe you can fill in some details here because the two fighters both well-trained what have you we're going after each other but the one fighter who won essentially just just straight through his body at the other person with his knees just out in the air and caught him right in the head and knocked him unconscious in five seconds now is the ben aspirin knew you know i'm a nerd when it comes to fighting and great comic books predetermination here's to the point is if you can do something wildly unpredictable. You could end to fight just like that with the element of surprise so okay. What if i may there's something called a punchers chance okay so in so for example when you do like submission fighting. We're doing like jokes and walks and all that kind of stuff. You're not going to have someone through a lucky armlock. That's not gonna happen but if you're talking or kickboxing there could be a lucky punch thrown u._s. Called punchers chance where someone who doesn't have the skill set or anything else still is at one percent chance of possibly succeeding. That's how i see harley quinn with against black widow punchers chance absolutely i'm just saying and the reason why is because they don't talk about this later black also taking out some insane super powerful so <hes> opponents as well through her skill you know when it comes to skill and especially in comic books and intermission you take someone who has all of that skill in that physicality that magnifies fighting ability a lot more than someone who's like. I've got a crazy style that kind of works in so unpredictable it an unpredictable style has been proven to work really really well against people who may not have the greatest training who may be good fighters but against someone who's really really well trained unpredictability is not advantage whatsoever now. I'm not saying that's what's going to be the advantage here but i'm telling you that's when it comes to like hey this person's had literally almost one hundred years or at least eight years worth of training by the cr- and tons of money into our training versus. Hey she's got a crazy unpredictable fighting style. I'm gonna lean towards the person who's had the hardcore training. Where if she doesn't win. She gets killed or dies right by her trainer's. Not even like out in battle you can argue that's also true about harlequin because she was trained by the joker who is a very very very good fighter in his own regards and he is and he would have trained her much in the same way and again very very similar characters. The way black widow would be chained trained through a little bit of russian cruelty. Not let's face it joker cruelty. I think out trump's russian cruelty any day of the week joker training though is if you don't survive. I kill you any like if you don't win. I kill you anyway but but it's not necessarily like thrive sound like she's received training like jokers like all right. Here's joker fu white belt lesson number one years. You know it's been more like school of hard august..

"Serum variation those same on the captain america and the treatment gives her you know not just enhanced strength but it allows you to like opera uh-huh peak level conditions so her stamina is also at a peak level which means she can fight at a high level for a long long period of time <hes> her immune system has also oh been enhanced which means she's barely age over the years marriage was born in nineteen twenty eight right and she's now <hes> got enhanced durability. She's got accelerated. Healing healing healing <hes> she's jillette durability is enabled her to survive direct blast from doctor doom. She's been able to fall from great heights and take on wounds types and walk away from them and here's a cool one. The white blood cells in our body are now enhanced. This is kind of an official marvel thing so she can fight off any microbe foreign body ready or poisons in her body and that also gives her the benefit of keeping <hes> you know healthy immune to almost any type of infection disease gases disorders anything foreign that comes in her system. She's good to go finally just like steve rogers. Black widow possesses the ability to quickly ever talked about it. She can process information much much faster than a regular human being which which means she's almost felt like a biological tactical computer in her mind that enables her to kind of see a direction goes something else implied came in. She is a living breathing tactical genius that can operate in think at a much higher level than the average human being reminded very intelligent human being <hes> so with all her enhancements super soldiers here or training remember. Her training was from russia sure right hardcore. Try to try to take down the united states. I really think comes fiscal staff and finding ability black widow also is vastly superior to <hes> harlequin. She's a great character. No doubt i do have a few rebuttal points unless you have something you'd like to ask. I don't please jump right yeah. I would love to henry derived. You know happens. It is the ratio welcome ladies and gentlemen but go ahead and it's always been the ratio. Would i would say a first off. She got that great. Russian training didn't help them in the cold war and he did it. He saw the berlin wall fell in nineteen eighty nine. She didn't do anything about that. Training is not as good as you're trying to pretend that it is. I'm trying to say right there the other thing. Is you know you bring up the super soldier sir. Is that exactly. Don't let's not conflict with captain america because captain america would defeat her constantly over and over again. I think so except i may show some evidence the contras that's fine. I have my own examples later. As well of some great fights that you wouldn't think harley quinn would win but she did because i think again i think these two characters a lot in common and an appointment my point number two is actually piggyback back of your point number one which is crazy. The only thing i would say is a genius level tactician on the battlefield sure you know i'm fine with all of that enhanced super mm per soldier sort of super soldier light serum. It's not going to pretend that she is some sort of like super enhanced. You know a being out there. He's i agree with that. She's not superhuman superhuman. She's not even borderlines captain america rush. She's like say she's regular strength. She's actually probably three times as strong as app but that's not superhuman exactly what i would say as as far as the avengers go in and there's a lot of them and there's a lot of very powerful ones we would rank her towards the bottom as far as combat abilities of the avengers as far as the ability to take down connects y and z enemy. I mean she's not going to stand up to four and take him out or iron man or any of these guys up. I will show proof to the contrary. I bet you'll try i will but that's basically missile..
Breaking Down 'Shazam!'
"Finds itself at an interesting inflection point. I would say I thought she was a very fun and entertaining movie, but it did not really feel like anything that had come in the DC universe before. And you kind of explain to me. What should I am is? And what it's trying to do. Sure. I mean, I kind of had the. To do the same thing after watching the movie because like right around the time the post credits scene with a evil Caterpillar happened. I was kinda like I've no idea what any of this stuff is. So thankfully, Mike does have a a piece on the ring dot com. A great website kind of breaking down the kind of Kazan origins. But yeah, he's he was actually originally called captain marvel and like in the movie there was like a wizard named 'schisms who gave him like all these superpowers. But when he sorta got folded into DC comics because marvel had its own captain marvel he then became Zam. But the whole spiel is basically the same thing like the wizards powers you activate it by saying Zam, and then I guess in the big conversion you just become buff, Zachary Levi. Yeah, I didn't even know buff Zachary Levi was going to be a thing that I would ever have to talk about. I can't say when I was watching Chuck ten years ago. That this ever crossed my mind that he would be a superhero, I think Tony Lee. This movie is pretty significantly different from superman vs Batman and the Justice league films and even wonder woman, which I thought was you know, is a very charming and obviously hugely successful movie. But there is a lightness in the tone, and it's not quite as operatic goofy. As was l-. You know, what did you make of the kind of movie that Sam was trying to be yet? No, I thought it was fun at kind of had like almost throwback Amblin entertainment coming of age vibe like something you'd see from like Amblin in like the eighties. But with the caveat that instead of a kid going on venture or something he can just become a superhero. But I thought it was a it was it was kind of an appropriate tone for for the kind of here that this guy is and I kind of like that, you know, a kid like a teenager becoming Kazan like he has like a bit of an aimlessness to him at the beginning. Like, there's not the sort of great power with great with great power comes great responsibility type speech. You just sorta has to learn things on the fly Yemen. One of the first things that the character does after he realizes his powers as he just goes to a convenience store in buys beer and candy. And you know, I it, you know, the movies clearly pitched as sort of what if big, but superhero, and it's very effective in showing us like maybe not with the real world ramifications would be because it's a little bit different in tone in the real world. But some of the like aspirations that you have as an adolescent, and the things that you wish you could do when you were thirteen sham does for the first hour of this movie, and the movie ultimately just becomes a story about like friendship and the way that we act bigger and older than we are. And what we can get away with in that time. And then it does turned into a little bit of a superhero movie. What did you make of the kind of balancing of those tones? Yeah. I mean, I think I did prefer sort of the the first half of the move. In that respect, as you know, there are so many superhero movies out there. And I think for the most part it's sorta gets derivative to when the movie gets the guy discovers his powers, you know, like Peter Parker, like scaling skyscrapers type of thing. But it was fun for Suzanne because it felt very like very genuine response. What if a fourteen year old kids suddenly had powers like, yeah? He would try to buy beer. He would go to script strip club in like beam about the chicken wings because this is a PG thirteen movie. You know, if he's in a world where superman Batman exists, and he doesn't really know. What to do is? You just if he can't find people to save is he just going to he's going to try to make cash and become a YouTube star. It was an interesting approach. But I think like I preferred that half of the movie versus like, the Mark strong shows up with seven CGI deadly sin, archetypes, or whatever. And it's time to punch him a lot. Yeah. I agree. I don't think part was active. It's funny because it feels like a movie like this, which is not exactly a reinvention. But is a is a reconsidering of what these kinds of movies can be still does arrive and its conclusion at the notion that needs to feature a lot of punching and a lot of fighting the bad guy. I'm curious to see if as we grow inside, the D C E U, I guess much like Zam. If they'll ever change the the the approach that they take having kind of the final showdown in the final forty five minutes of the movie that was also one of my struggles. Honestly with wonder woman, which I thought as I said was really clever and well made and then ultimately just turned into Diana fighting a demon monster who was played by David through Lous. What do you make of the decisions that DC is now making to singular is each of their movies? I mean, it's interesting because like, you know, they they did a pretty quick pivot from like fast-tracking their Justice league movie which end up being like relative to the expectations a bit of a bomb for them. Also, it didn't really track critically. But you know, they're kind of like making these films that have this very little interconnectivity like aquaman was only really playing the seeds for Auckland to and I guess a trench spinoff, which I could go on like a twenty minutes handed about the trench about the trend. Can't wait for the trench. And like kind of the same thing with wonder woman sequel in feels that way, which is. To you know, if it does well enough at the box office like affiliates just leading into sham two or maybe like a black atom movie, which is like a sham villain. That's supposed to be played by Dwayne Johnson. If you look at like the C projects that are in the air like a rebooted suicide squad, James Gunn, new bad movie. Perhaps a flash movie there's all these other projects like the one glaring omission is there are no plans to make like a Justice league to and not to say that would never happen again. But clearly like the D C you right now is content. Just kind of throwing stuff out there and seeing what resonates with audiences yet. If you look down there slate, we talked about this a little bit during the release of aquaman, but I was just in add an in Vegas at cinema Khan. And they were very proud of the approach that they were taking telling their stories because the next the next handful of movies. They have is of course, Zam, and you know, they also have joker which is coming in October. Which also feels quite standalone seems to have virtually nothing in common with the movie Lakesha Zam. And then there's also a birds of prey which is. Theon story of sort of five superhero team that will also include Margot Robbie Harley Quinn, and that totally and visually looks completely different from those other two movies. And so they've taken this decision to not just make that flash movie and not just make whatever inevitable green lantern movie. And with the same kind of stormy visualises that that Zack Snyder created, but to just kind of individually each story, which is what a lot of comic books are actually a lot of comic books have separate illustrators. They have separate writers their tones are quite different amazing spider. Man could be quite different from x men and superman could be quite different from, you know, detective comics, and what's going on with that, man. And of course, I guess next year late next year. We'll have the Batman which Matt Reeves Batman movie. Do you know, your your very closely track the comp films for us is it more interesting to you of all of this the fits together or do you like it better? If it stands alone and the movies get to be what they are. Well, I. Kind of like maybe I just have a bit of a marble fatigue. Just because it feels like we've been preparing for endgame like just just forever. But yeah, I kind of like this approach because you know, like, if something doesn't, you know resonate with with audiences like I personally wasn't as big of a fan as as wonder woman as other people were which is fine. You know, I I like parts of it. But, but you know, for the most part people really enjoyed it. And I think you know, it's an interesting approach. I think what will probably be most interesting is with wonder woman command and Zam they've all been pretty well received. And they've made a good amount of money. I'm curious what happens like how the DC EU responds when something flops with critics audiences in the box office. Do they like shake it off? Or if it's like, if it's bracing a certain tone, like, you know, let's say joker is actually quite terrible. And and you know, it's like a Scorsese prestige that. Just kind of doesn't work like will the DC you kinda void being that experimental. Again. I I'm curious to see what happens when there's kind of like a speed bump on the road for them. I am too is an interesting question because it does seem like in with Shas AM and most likely joker and handful of these other movies. They don't come with that two hundred and fifty million dollar production price tag. You know, they're definitely smaller movies with more modest ambitions, at least in terms of the execution of the movie. And so the risk is lower. So if let's say joker is not the sort of world-beating, cultural colossus that many would have us believe this week. That's okay. I think that they could probably survive that. And it's an you're right. It is a really interesting pivot away from all of that interconnectiveness. Is there anything else about his that you you really liked and you responded to? Yeah. I really like that, you know, I thought Zachary Levi was was just so good at like kind of capturing basically like, you know, a kid in a swollen dealt spot ended it so well like there were times where you almost felt to childlike for guy who's still like fourteen years old, but you could tell he was just having such a blast. And and yeah, I would have never expected Chuck would be like a swollen superhero. But I never expected Jim from the office to like, you know, make some hard movie also become buffer like Michael bay film. So I I guess, you know sick. I'm stars. They can transform. Yeah. Could you cast a sitcom debauche sitcom figure into into a superhero movie right now is there? Anybody springs to your mind? Is Jim Parsons our next. Green lantern. You think? Oh god. No, no. I'm trying to think of like if someone from parks and rec ado that transformation that isn't Chris Pratt. Because I mean, he's he's just forget about this point. He's he's like a discount printing. Frazier. But he he has done that as well. I mean, I guess maybe if if Adam Scott were cast as as galactic that would probably that. That's as close as we're gonna get

"The good news is I want you to be back real great. Because anytime I look at a script and see background my heart's like so happy the bad has can't be Harley. I said why? And she said because I want back girl to live in Harley land, I want bat girl, hyper and crazy. And you know, she has no attention span. And she's all over the place that I'm just worried it's going. To be too close to Harley, and as you know, I had to kind of say I understand. But because I've played so many rations of Harley said do me favor bring me in and we'll do back girl. And then let me do five or six different Harleys beside it and see if we can still pull it off. And so we do the back row we set her voice, which is higher than any backer life done 'cause she's crazy crazy town. And then we start playing around with Harley, and I sort of had this inspiration to make her a little Brittany Murphy ish, and like that kind of clicked in to her. And so they heard that and they're like, okay. No more. We're done your and so to play them both back to back and yet another version of Harley was so fun. So check that show out to in. It's totally different than fun. That sounds so fun and exciting. You know, you know, me is should boy if you want anyway, I f y in w I d I v on Twitter and Instagram if dis on twitch speaking of which after you get that Amazon prime and watch all go through make sure you go ahead and connected to you twitch twitch crime zeldon coming through watch me play video games. Also, come to the discord salt squaw, discord dodgy G Ford slash salt squad and just go, you know, keep pumping, you know. And you stay stay stay Washington stories. You never know when there's trapped coming through. Gosh, he looked out people Bulent hit me out saying you slowing down on third straps like wealth. I gotta keep it surprising. "Iheartradio app or wherever you find your podcasts. And we're back in before we move on to current Harley. I just wanted to touch on for those of you that kind of thinking of where to start with her obviously the animated series, which was saying still holds up so beautifully. I feel like you could honestly freeze frame any part of that show and like make it a poster it's so pretty but another thing is her. She also appears Harley appears in the nineteen Ninety-four graphic novel. The Batman adventures mad love in that recounts, a lot of her origin story and also her, you know, her love with joker that relationship. You can see all of that in mad love. I actually just bought it. I'm really excited to podcasts of people talking about it. And it sounds amazing. So pick that up and yes, so now we have a heartily in suicide squad. She also is going to be in birds of prey my fans went ape when they found out. I wasn't playing her on camera. And I'm like, dude, I go on Twitter. I'm like. Margot Robbie is the hottest chick. And and she's a stunningly amazing actress, she's also a lot younger than mean, not valid vigor, but like like, let her shine. And she she's a star. Like, I if I pick her to play Harley like great, I understand that. But I would like Tara Harley Quinn. I I've said a million times, which I think would be really fun. I think they should put me Hemel in Conroy like in a booth at a diner like how you know Stanley doesn't. I think we need a little cameo. I mean, I think so. Oh, that'd be so fans. Go nuts. Yeah. Hopefully, totally I was reading I thought I read somewhere that you vote. You did like a little thing of Harley for aero. Yeah. Okay. So that was like hurt because people didn't really get to see her, right? He's all went nuts because they knew right away with my voice. And I was like you should put me on the show the fans would really like that. But anyway, it was just that one little went off without fun. Everybody, right. Make this happen. Four aero hashtag to the number for like, you know, Harleys a mom, and she has teenage boys or something like mom Harley. Clinger's what does Harley as a mom do like, she's still like likes to dress up and look hot? But then in the morning, she makes oatmeal like pain. Maybe she kicks ass at night. But during the day, she goes to PTA. Gosh, that would make a lot of sense. That would be such a clear run highly, you know, at home. She's like everyone have the breakfast, then she's like. Kick. Some maybe you know, there's too. I don't know you guys can totally pitch that stealing. Find me in an episode. Let's get cracking. I did want to say into sides. What did did like the fact that Harley was, you know, she still had her hopes and dreams when she was in love with joker. They had that law land sequence of her like with a baby. And I love that fact that like what Tara was saying that she's fully fleshed out. You know, she's not a one dimensional villain. She's a woman that had dreams of her own. She someone that has this love interest. She then like we said moves from a follower to a leader. She is she's a one woman show. Yeah. If he is this where you wanted to do your gush session before you let taraoke. I wanna individually just go down. I'm Debbie and thank you for each individually. Like, you know, been tin already. Yeah. Inspector. What were well? We have two more hours, right? I wanna tell tarot. So we had a Reese Wasser who's a transgender actress in supermodel come on. And she did are my little pony episode. And she was talking about how much your show the new animated show has affected her life. I hear that..

"I love 'cause play families. It's cutest thing ever when they're all in cost you and like the mom was back girl. The daughter was raven. The boy was Ben ten. The other daughter was Harley, and I was with a director friend of mine, and the mom said we take a picture with my daughter. She's dressed as Harley, and I said sure, and like actually, let's do a family photo. And I said, okay, when I'm standing next to raven, and I go do, you know, do you know who I am? And she's like, I know who I am. And I go, okay, whatever. And she's like, yeah. Whatever like, they didn't know. Right. And then my director goes, you know, she voices all of you. Right. But she's our whole family, right? And they're like. Second air like just, but 'cause place so fun. Yeah. I always look I liked seeing when. Daniel Radcliffe was like spider. I think he walked around Spiderman. But since he had a mask on. Nobody knew. Yeah. That's the greatest myself much fun favorite is one year. Blake Blake Anderson for work a Hollick's was he just he wanted to go in and buy stuff, and he just put on a woven green masks. Yeah. And like I was like, but I could still see your hair. But I was like, I only know because I know it's you anyone who's that weird hair fun to just walk around the con in cognitive and be able to go anywhere and do anything as fun. If he was going to say we have to take another break. So that we can take a break and then wrap up with the future of Harley and and. And and you know, it's it's going to be a new segment, I call the gush session, and we'll go there. Founds. Good. We'll get to it. We'll see you after the break. Wait is that you're going to break a wh-? What did you want to do? I don't know just say, hey, so we'll we'll get into the movies. The future of Harley Quinn, oh wrap up, and that whatever we can keep that cheap and all of that. But we'll see y'all after the break. That's great. You know, people say necessity is the mother of invention. But that's not always true. Sometimes the mother of invention is advertising. Yeah. Or pure accident. How about ego maniacal delusion? Absolutely. Or just a desperate longing. To be cool. I'm Robert lamb, and I'm Joe McCormick. We're the host of the science podcasts stuff to blow your mind. "And then over the years white people love her and how she sustained is because she's grown with the times, you know, some characters stay very classic. But she's like grown like people like, wow. Like in some of the games that you see like her becoming her own woman in her own power and kicking ass by herself. And like, I just think it's something people aspire to go. Well, she started out as this meek little, you know, wilting. Flower beside joker. And now she's doing things by herself and kicking ass all on her own. It's like, wow, people like blown away by her power. And she so powerful like you're just drawn to her and everybody sees something in themselves from her nothing people are all psychopaths. But. Definitely see. Well, I've put up with some crab in my life that I shouldn't have. And I still love that guy or whatever it is. That you go she's so devoted, and but also she's so cute, and that's part of it to her design is so cute. It is a reason people 'cause play her people don't always 'cause play TIMMY Turner, if they're not hot really naked cost. Too sexy to me. Let's see I'm gonna look for that. I did want to say this was an interview from Bruce Timm in Vanity Fair in two thousand sixteen he said, we didn't want to give joker girlfriend because it humanizes him. We are really trying to stress how bizarre and creepy. He could be and this is from Paul Dini complex. I was writing the script for the Batman animated series. When I was coming up with an idea for the jokers gang of henchmen. I thought I'd like to put a female character in there. I was going back and forth in my head about what kind of character. She should be. What if she's funny? What if there's a bit of a throwback to the henchmen from Batman in the sixties? What if she gets laughs from the henchman sometimes when the joker doesn't? That's what I really love about her. Is that like you said she moves honestly from being a follower to a leader? Yeah. She went from she appeared in a suicide squad in the new fifty two that was in twenty eleven the new fifty two was when DC came through. And kinda just we did a lot of their lines. And then she ended up in rebirth. Having her own comic Harley Quinn comic. And she's also. Gotham city sirens. And she's like one of the only sustainable comic heroes that didn't start as a comic yet. You know? And now all her comics are huge in the the bigger book. Ones are awesome. I mean, I bought them all. I've read them all yet. But as soon as I did killing joke, I had to buy everything that was like that too. That. Yeah. Yeah. It's so funny about it too. Is a Harley is kind of similar in joker in the sense. That joker was supposed to just be a villain of the week. And somehow he called me out. And then, you know, same thing for Harley she was going to be just this character who popped on. And she just was so amazing that I yeah, there's there's something I think about her that is just so infectious where you just love seeing her. And I think it is just in a way where I find that, you know, joker. Like, he is funny. But he's funny in a creepy way. Like, it's very dark, and you don't really trust his last where Harley seems like she's having fun. You know, you're what you're doing bad. But she's also a train wreck which is always fun to watch. What is that girl? Going to do next. Right. Yeah. Right. Yeah. Terry. I wanted to actually quote, you because we have this in here from that Vanity Fair article where you said feminism is about showing women as fully fleshed out human beings. And that's what Harley is she doesn't make choices that are smart or good for woman, but she gets to make those choices men are allowed to be Upson all kinds of characters and women. Aren't we have to be idolized? She gets to not be good quote. Our producer put that in there. He was like well because he pulled a lot of the research. He was like he texted us yesterday. And was like, wow. A lot of these quotes are from Tara..

"That's how the that's kind of what happened with Harley, you know. And I think that there is some I think she has sympathy for the joker. And then the ba- Batman. Has sympathy for her and watching this like watching her chase after him. Yeah. There definitely seems to be a level of Batman being like, you're you got like there were like few episodes where you see him like the joker doesn't care about you. And she's like shut up. He was a big Malley. You guys get the digital remastered that just came out. Oh, yeah. You mean with the tiny funk? Oh, oh, yeah. It's sitting here in my walls. Yeah. At comecon. They played it on the big screen side by side and that show holds up anyway, it's like film, Noir mutiple, but to watch it re colored it's like, holy crap. It's so beautiful. Yeah. Got it. I mean, I feel like you know, we're talking about origin stores. I think this is a good place to jump in on Harley Quinn. So Harley Quinn her full name is Dr Harley Francis Quincy, well, this V H D. And this is you know, she what's dope is she came from the animated series, but she still had that like nineties level. Like naming where like superhero names, their real name sounds like their nickname. I always bring it up on the podcasts. Black bolts real name is blacker guard bolt again. Really shot for the moon. Edwards 'nigma? Right. Yeah. That's that's the Ridler come on. That's that'd be like, that's the guy. That's gonna be the guy. It sounds like but early Quincy fictional character. Appearing in DC comics was created by Paul dean and Bruce him, and I appeared in Batman the animated series, which makes her so unique, you know, which goes to show just the performance just like, you know, I feel like a lot of times people underestimate or under appreciate except for the fans the over. I was gonna say over appreciate. But he appreciate just enough voice actors and just how dynamic their performance can be because Harley Quinn would not exist without the performance. You know, like if that wasn't a amazing performance in the animated series. It could have just been a character that lived in died with this series. But instead it was so good that because of Arlene. Yeah. Like had she not given that voice all those crazy little quirks and highs and lows and things like catch ear the what was that? Not just another chicks voice. It's really she breathed life into this character that you want to hear more from even though it can be high or irritating. Crazy like I got to work. I want to hear. More. Yeah. Yes. So going off of what you were saying about Arleen. So she was a former star of the soap opera days of our lives and appeared in a dream sequence on that series in which she ward just or costume. So like terrorists saying it was literally based on literally that episode is why they created Harley. Yeah. Yeah. So she starred in an episode titled jokers favor in September of nineteen Ninety-two tear. I wanted to know because she was just supposed to be kind of like a walk on role. If she was just supposed to kind of be like, the sidekick, but not really have what she is. Now, why do you think that people latched onto her and have stayed latched onto her? Yeah. I think that reason has changed over time. And I think initially people were so drawn to her because first of all the fact that joker even has a girlfriend interesting like who would date the joker. And the fact that she's so lovable in so loyal. And also her costumes are always kick ass. No matter what they put her in Harleys. Like, you know, it's the biggest cause play. Like, especially Comecon, but any of them, you know, there's just Harley events like I went to like a Harley panel in the whole room was Harley. Of course, I the prized everyone in 'cause plate, and it was freight, those pictures are awesome. But I think people like I think they were drawn to her initially because of the total package it was her drying. It was it was the writing of her. It was the acting was how she looked and the dynamic between her and joker and how she would go for Batman like what cute little chicks gonna go after Batman Harley. You know, like, I think there was so much that went into this perfect storm to create this kick ass chick..

"To money. Hey, what is up doing heard Vam? It's it'd be way. And you're listening to narrative and across from me as always ills Dani Fernandez, if he I saw you e like a massive hamburger today or yesterday was a fourteen pound birds. No. And I really it was a home thing. You know, I don't know jam bodies work. And I've I'm learning that the hard way, I had trouble breathing all day. And you know, I look I get it. Probably you know, what you probably burn calories trying to eat. It was so crazy. 'cause you know, you you always wonder what those cooking shows like, oh, what do you do after it? And they'll just like, okay. Are you going to take this? And I was like, well if you guys are gonna throw away. Yes. You know, I come from that Nigerian heritage like I was in Nigeria. They're like you eat the whole cow. You do any of the Mexican families to. Yeah. It was like a whole thing. Like we were getting yelled at. But like she was kind of hustling. There was a lady who was on the property. Who's like, you are not going to eat the okay, you're going to the way she soon because we're Americans. But my dad was like, no we are going to eat the whole cow. And she was like, I will take these cows. And so I was like, oh, she just hustled us 'cause she just took some of the meat. But all right. I gotta respect the hustle shout out if she. He's listening all the way things she is essentially. Today. We have a special guest. Oh my gosh. This is a voice that I've heard from most of my life, and I got to be being in the room with them. You know, you saved it all for the air. I didn't I didn't wanna geek out. But now you can't be weirded out because we have you on tape. Still be on tape. The door. Does have a lock. Escape room. The puzzle. You have to get out of here. Only one in here who hasn't been in a scape room because I I yeah, I'm bad at puzzle. So I just know him 'cause you know, every time every one of my friends who go and escape rooms there there always is that one person who they're like this guy was so dumb, and he was slowing down the process. And I was like, oh, I don't wanna be that. I don't wanna be that person. If you're good at something you have value you want bring someone that's good at word game. Someone's getting math someone's gonna puzzle. Like, oh, I can figure out this math question. I can figure out this geography customers people that are good at different things or helpful. Okay. Cool. Yeah. And even if you just having a good time in portion where it's like do a fortnight dance. I haven't seen that. But we need someone. That's as hell or something like. Yeah. You have to dead lift this three hundred and fifty pounds look shell. We're talking to a woman of in my opinion, thousands of voices. I don't know if that's correct. But I'm going to think that it is Korean chasers. This week. It was eleven hundred seem credited roles, you know, a lot of times. We're like, hey, can you do this extra little girl in the silver guy over here? Yeah. Roger Craig Smith who you have worked with eight. You hate canonical hate he was saying that. Yeah. In one show alone. It was he was credited as doing one hundred voices in one show. That's because he's not good. They'll be like oh, give the crappy little were. He can say one word or a snort or a gas. Give him the little bit parts that no one will hear about going to clip this and send it to him directly. We are talking to Tara strong. Thank you so much for joining us today. We are covering Harley Quinn. We are covering the history of Harley Quinn and kind of what she came to be. And what she is. Now, Tara you voiced bat girl before you were Harley. What was that kind of like that transition of getting to play essentially, a hero in my opinion? Harley is still a hero. I guess an anti hero. But what was it like switching from girl? Barbara Gordon to Arleen. Well, first of all it was so cool to be back early..

"They've had a connection, they've got a friendship of sorts, and they do care about each other in a way as best as each can. I guess. And again, Batman Harley, Quinn. We got to see you know how their relationship was because even Harley Quinn, you know, new, hey, you know, I've e- what you're doing is just it's wrong. You're trying to like, you know, permits destroy the world and I'm sorry, I live in the world, not okay with this. So we got to see that. And I will say this, like, you know, hearing Kili, CoCo do point Harley Quinn. I like how it sounds, and you can definitely, you can tell just even this little clip you can in this little tease, you can tell that, you know her energy is really, really high, which. Harley Quinn usually should be Harley Quinn. You should have a lot of energy into, like kinda has a really good outlook on life. Even things are bleak, even things seem bad, even things seem hopeless. She's going to percents, like outta work out, you know, and is really excited about it. And this it's shown in recent interational actually read another graphic novel that was called, what was it called? It was called Justice league no Justice where she was the same way like it was a very dire situation where the universe was endangering. She was again, like, you know, a comic relief is sorts, but also kind of like, you know, the shining light in the bleak in the bleakness of the situation. So that's kinda hard Quinn has become lately, of course, that's remembered to that from her original costume, Batman, the as series. Her costume has changed from the new fifty two series that if you don't know, that happened with the whole flashpoint paradox, which is a situation that happened with Barry Allen in the comics that pretty much changed everything by. Decision he made and if you wanna see a really good example of that, you know, of course see that on the flash series and is also an end and movie that they did a DC movie called the flashpoint perks. You can see like, you know the severity of what he did there, and he didn't think, you know he had good intentions, but it really had dire reprecussions for the c. you know universe as whole afterwards. It just did so. Yeah. So it changes us. She looks and in suicide squad show that so that she looked very different and wasn't the character she was played by Margot Robbie. So yeah, overall, I think it's going to be a good show. I'm excited for it. I definitely want to see more like to see a bit learn a bit more about the show, like is it going to be heard and Harley Quinn? It's going to be her in the suicide squad is going to be just her on her own. I mean, is she still in Arkham as she had to Arkham? I'd like to know these things. I'm definitely wanna know more, but it's a good little window into the show. And into what it's going to see where it's going to go and where it's going to be. So yeah, I'm looking forward to it. There is no release date yet into those nineteen minutes coming into those nineteen. That's all that's known at this point. But yeah, I'm, I'm excited. I I definitely like, you know, wanna know more, but I think it's going to be cool. And I think that Kelly cocoa for this interational Holly Quin they're doing, it's going to be a good call. It's going to be a good choice. So yeah, so that's all I have to say about that this moment. And of course be sure to keep your Hiba in future pursuits. When I when I learned more let you guys know more. So we're gonna take another short little break and we'll be back in a little bit. "Hello there. Everybody. This is Jay. Snuck back for more scifi news for us. So this weekend, we had newer comic con happen out in New York, of course, and they showed us a lot of cool trailers for Lada news shows a lot of coming shows and mind you before we got to see this little teaser about tell you about we because before this, it's back before that. So this new streaming service come out called DC universe, which I don't know if I've talked on here before where it's streaming service, where they're going to have a bunch of new enemies shows and live action shows. Titans is going to be on the other going to have a live action. Swamp things. Show the doing doom patrol thing as a cartoon show. They're bringing back young Justice for season three, which fans of weeded many years for that, and it looks really amazing, and they're also doing a Harley Quinn cartoon now before a recently. All we knew as other doing Harling. Quin cartoon. Great. We didn't know anything about it. They announced that Kili CoCo, which I hope I said that right from the big bang theory is going to be lending her voice to Harley Quinn on this cartoon. And it's kind of funny because when they did Batman and Harley Quinn was a DC did I think about a year or two ago now. We had burnt the girl who is Bernadette on the big bang theory, do Harley Quinn on that. So now this is the second woman from the big bang theory to be voicing Harley Quinn. And I'll give you a short little history Harley. Quick in case you don't know if you do. It's kind of cool lesson anyway. So Harley Quinn was not someone who had been isn't a brand new care to process. She's been around maybe twenty something years now, but she got started on a Batman damaged series and it's just like they said, hey, you know what? Let's give Batman, you know, I mean not Batman joker. Sorry, joker a, you know, a a love interest is sorts, and it was originally Harley Quinn. And as the series went on we, hey, she's be Dr. Harley Quinn Zell. She was at one time, you know, doctor for the joker and overtime knows she develops this attraction to him. It's never fully clear if he really feels the same way she does, but she develops. Attracts from. She helps break out of Arkham and becomes Harley Quinn, and the rest is history, you know, and he's not always at greater hurries abusive physically, verbally, things like that, but she can't help herself. She loves him. She's in love with him. We gotta learn a lot about their history actually in a show the episode they did called mad love. And since she got introduced on bet, mid series, fans loved her. She's a very popular character. She lot of people of the 'cause plays her. And in recent years she's had some chances used to be in a hey issue is just always telling, you know, connected to the joker, there's just who she was now in Batman Harley Quinn. There is no joker. It's just Harley Quinn and you know, and she's helping Batman and night wing, you know, stop poison Ivy from doing this with the Franck man. In the comics. The same thing has happened. They're doing stories now. It's not just, hey, Harley Quinn. Oh yeah. The joker, the joker and Harley Quinn. They're starting to veer away from that. They did now. To DC and movies where was Batman assault on Arkham where we do see, you know the joker in her, but she's not like, oh, hey, joker putting love. You know, she's very, not happy with him at on anti-trust, shoot him and kill him..
