What Can We Learn From Bobby Knight?
"Of the legends of college basketball passed away. I grew up watching this guy coach. You know, I, I remember in America where alpha men were more loved than hated. Not everyone loved them. But I think about Rush Limbaugh. I think about obviously Donald Trump. Here's a thought crime for you. Beautiful, big, great countries are founded and protected and made better by aggressive men. You cannot have a nation without strong men. Bobby Knight is not everyone's cup of tea. He had a spine. He had other anatomy too. He was a real salty person in a very good way. Bobby Knight, he would last, I think, an afternoon as a coach in today's time. Diversity, equity, inclusion. Go run sprints. Transgender, you're a moron. He would be not very tolerant of this, but Bobby Knight pursued excellence. He was a hard nosed Midwest. He was America first. We'll talk about that. Coach who pushed his players to the highest possible level. Bobby Knight was hated by the media for years. Bobby Knight probably pushed the boundaries a little bit too much. Threw a chair on the court. Play cut 137. Two shot technical against the bench and against Bob Knight. Steve Reid, an excellent free throw shooter, will have the honor of shooting the technicals. Look at here. Look at here. Bobby Knight is through his chair. Clear across the free throw lane. And I think he picked up another team. Bobby Knight also hit a kid. Shouldn't have done that. Very similar to George Patton. But Bobby Knight and Patton had a very similar way of leading. Lead, follow or get out of the way. Bobby Knight, I think, is the second winningest coach of all time. Now it's Mike Krzyzewski. And Bobby Knight wanted to win. We as a conservative movement could learn a lot from Bobby Knight. He did what was necessary. He was tough. He was intense. He was honest. He was the best that the Midwest had to offer. Honestly, I'm proud to have been raised in the region of Bobby Knight. You wouldn't want to face him and players wanted to play for him. And you better believe Bobby Knight had a temper. He yelled. He did some bad stuff at times. But on the other hand, his players had a 96 % graduation rate. He believed that if a player couldn't show up to class and get good grades, they didn't belong on his team. He did not pander to the lowest common denominator of this black pandering crap that now exists in NCAA sports. Oh, I'm studying physical fitness. Yeah, sure. Bobby Knight's like, no, you're gonna get a degree because you're probably not gonna be an NBA player. He loved his players and his players loved him. He was very well known for doing anonymous acts of charity. He never had a single NCAA violation, not a recruiting scandal like Jim Harbaugh, this Jim Harbaugh thing. But Jim Harbaugh might as well just get in the headset of the guys in the Big Ten. Are we sure that Jim Harbaugh wasn't just like hacking into the radio frequencies? Leading the team for almost three decades and winning three NCAA titles. One of the hardest things for those of you that I love college basketball, not as much as college football, but I love March Madness. I don't really watch regular season. I think it's kind of a waste of time. March Madness is one of the most beautiful things that America has to offer as far as you could learn a lot psychologically and culturally to win three NCAA titles is unbelievable. That is so hard. You're lucky to win one. You're lucky to go to a Final Four. Bobby Knight dominated, dominated, and he was an America first patriot.

The MMQB NFL Podcast
A highlight from New England's Historic Loss & CJ Stroud Breaks Out
"Hello and welcome to the MMQB NFL podcast. I'm Conroe. That's my dog Ernie upstairs barking at the FedEx guy. Albert Breer's here and I'm going to start in New York because Albert I can't believe that we're still doing this Taylor Swift thing. And now the NFL is doing the Taylor Swift thing. Do you see that they are their subhead on their Twitter pages. The Chiefs are now 2 -0 as Swifties. I did not see that but I am more and more. It's fake. I think so too. I think on Friday like the radio show I did in Boston. They leave me at the like and these guys are really creative and they kind of like took me through their full like tinfoil hat like conspiracy theory. You know like you know what this actually really makes sense. Like because the NFL has forever chased the female demographic and they've struggled to get it. And they know that there's nothing more buzz worthy on that side of the aisle than Taylor Swift. And they were shameless enough to cut like I mean we've seen some of their shameless acts over the years to try and get the female audience. And this wouldn't even rank in like the top 10. You know what I mean like this would just be sort of par for the course that they would do something like this. So I really like I am officially on this Monday morning Connor especially after the 10 million shots that box last night. I'm all the way there. This is all fake. This is all like this is all contrived. This is it. Everyone wins situation. Taylor gets to promote her movie. What else is it? There's one other thing right is a new album coming out. I can't keep track of all of this. I have no idea. OK. So Taylor gets to promote that stuff with a different demographic. Right. Like football different demographics different than hers. The NFL gets to try to take a swing at the female audience. And then Travis Kelsey gets an enormous benefit from this. Travis Kelsey's following has exploded. Nine hundred thousand new followers. This is like an everyone wins situation. And it's all fake. A 14 point 14 whatever place jump in Jersey sales. Like we were taught in school to follow the money and it's right out in front of us. Like it's like you know we're not even it's not even like they're hiding it. And I think I'm only read some of this stuff sometimes, though, and like like over the last week, like actually clicking on some like people dot com links, you know, I've seen some stories she reads. And I always think that the page six type stuff, you know, and I always think it's funny when there's like an insider into somebody's relationship, like who would be the insider into your relationship? Connor, I, you know, when they when they when they when they put sources into your relation and then people's relationships. Yeah, the sources be I mean, it would be like my neighbor or like my mom or my wife's mom. It would be like, yeah, I think I think they're fighting, you know. Yeah. Yeah. I don't have a publicist. I always think that's great. Like is the sources into the like the insiders into the relationship? Like is that person like just coming over and hanging out on a Tuesday or something and that makes them an insider? So Brian Costello, who's awesome, Jets beat writer for the New York Post, and he tweeted the the bio for the NFL's Twitter page, which is the Chiefs two and O's Swifties. And he's totally right. This is the kind of stuff that fuels nutjob conspiracy theorists, not just the ones with the podcast. But the fans who watched that game last night and saw their saw the outcome derailed by an extraordinarily questionable call on Sauce Gardner. And listen, I'm not saying it's good, bad, right, wrong or indifferent. But if you're a Jets fan and you've already seen your entire season railroaded by the NFL's greed and desire to milk whatever they can out of this franchise and you had to do hard knocks. Every single game is on prime time. Your schedule is ridiculous, ridiculously front loaded and impossible at the beginning. You know, I don't know what else you could think right now other than your team is just being actively manipulated by by the league. And listen, I don't believe it. You know, Andy Benoit and I used to fight about the I used to get him going on the NFL's fake thing a while back. We had a lively discussion about that after Peyton Manning's second Super Bowl. But I don't believe it. I'm not one of those people. Well, you're not making them go away. I just noticed I just went to the NFL's Twitter page. It is now the header is three shots of tail left. And like if you look at the bio, I think this is a tailor. I think this is a tailor reference. We had the best day with you today. Maybe is that a reference? I think it has to be right to be clear. I'm not anti Taylor Swift. I think she's a fine musician. Yeah, I think she's a genius. Like, yeah, I think she's a legitimate genius and everything she touches turns to gold. And there's a reason for it. She's obviously incredible. Yeah, I just don't like I want you know what? I think I'm hot, too, because I'm coming off the I wrote about the way those are the lyrics to it. Those are those are lyrics from a Taylor Swift song titled The Best Day. Okay, I think I'm just a little hot coming off the Toy Story broadcast, too. Did you did you catch any of that? I was actually coaching third grade football during the Toy Story. Okay, good. Yeah, I threw that on and I was just like, what are they doing? And I get it. You're trying to get kids to watch football. But how about just allowing kids to watch football or to have kids play football and not to watch like a I mean, the technology was incredible. But it like it looked like a like a like Minecraft, you know, and like I just felt like I watch it with my son for a minute. And I was like, they're trying to just it's like cocoa melon. They're just trying to hypnotize them. So we we bang that thing fast. I mean, I just feel like that's like there are some people at the league office who don't have enough to do. And that's how things like that wind up coming to life. Like like fix, fix the problems. Like we're focused on Taylor Swift and the Toy Story broadcast, like like digital chains so that like chains don't break during the game. Grass fields like like like fix the actual problems with the games. My God. Anyway, twenty three twenty, the Chiefs beat the Jets. The Jets fall to one in three. The Chiefs are three and one. I think my takeaway from this game is the takeaway that everybody had, which was this was a feisty, very feisty Zach Wilson game. I think that Robert Sala, to me, win or lose, just earns so much credit because during the week he knew he was going to get demolished. And he said, you don't throw people away. You just don't throw people away. And I give him so much credit because honestly, this is job on the line stuff. And he stuck with Zach Wilson. He dug in. There was no sample size. And Zach played really well. I was very happy for them. And look, like I think that the biggest problem that Robert Sala had was like, can he continue to sell Zach Wilson to the locker room? Because the premise of that entire team, the construction of that team this year was we're going for it. Right. So there are guys in that locker room like Allen Lazard and Adrian Amos and Randall Cobb, guys that were like that are older vets that are there to chase the ring. And like guys like that aren't going to have patience. They don't care what this means for your franchise in 2025. They care about right now. And the younger guys in the roster are going to be worried about what's going to get them in a position to get paid. So it can be hard to sell a developing quarterback to a locker room. And I'll give Robert Sala credit for standing by Zach Wilson, because if he didn't do that, like it would have been impossible. It would have been impossible for Zach in that locker room. you And, know, it sort of made me think of something I said earlier in the day about how Josh Dobbs should get us to question everything about how we develop quarterbacks, how the NFL develops quarterbacks, how the NFL nurtures quarterbacks. Because, you know, you have this guy in Josh Dobbs who got what, six years to kind of learn away from the bright lights. And then because he was on different teams, because he had different experiences, because he was developed away from game action, because people invested in him, because he had a chance and people had patience with him. And, you know, every single movement of his wasn't, you know, litigated on a public level on a week to week basis. You know, he had a chance to kind of get better in the background. And now you have a guy who's so adaptable that he could be traded a week before the season and start and take maybe the worst roster in the league and have a competitive over the first month of the season. It really like to me, like looking at Josh Dobbs makes you question everything. And so if six years can do that for Josh Dobbs, why are we throwing guys out after two or three years? That's what I don't get about it. It's fair to make an assessment on a guy and say, like, he sucks now. But to say guys never going to be good, just ignore so much history. You know, like Alex Smith is a phenomenal example of it. Right. Like how many times was he given up on in San Francisco? Yeah. Like, oh, he can't play. But no one was looking at the fact that like he had five coordinators his first five years in the league. He had two head coaches. Everything was completely unstable around him. And then Jim Harbaugh gets there in 2011 says, no, I'm sticking with him. And he takes off and then he's in the league for another decade as a starter. You know, like it's just we have so many examples of the of why we shouldn't make definitive and declarative statements about young quarterbacks. And yet we do it over and over and over again. And like I do, I think like the intention of the Jets in the first place was we have to press the pause button with Zach Wilson. We may have wronged him by playing him too fast. Right. And by putting too much on him too early. And so the whole intention on bringing him back this year was to allow him the chance to do the Josh jobs and develop in the background for a year or two. And that got blown up. But just because that plan got blown up like that's not Zach Wilson's fault. That plan got blown up. It's not anybody's fault. So now you're going to just completely throw the kid out. Why? Because Aaron Rodgers got hurt. There's a lot of like really faulty logic that goes into the way that he's been talked about over the last couple of weeks, I think. I agree. I'm not just saying this because I wrote about it, but to not even, you know, I think we're in such a easy Twitter dunk society that when Zach Wilson and Nathaniel Hackett get paired up, everyone's just like, oh, this is going to be terrible. And without looking at any of the history of any of these guys. The AFC championship came with Blake, Blake Bortles. He got Ryan Nassib drafted out of Syracuse. I went to Syracuse. Do you know who was the quarter? The last quarterback drafted before Ryan Nassib, Donovan McNabb, Donovan McNabb. I was going to say I was going to say Troy Nunes. Like I think drafted as a quarterback. I think there was a couple of quarterbacks that turned into tight ends, but in literally broke all the school records with this guy. And then he got Kyle Wharton, I believe, to the doorstep of the playoffs. Yeah. Two MVPs with Aaron Rodgers after he was lost in the woods for a little while. The guy's good at what he does, you know, and we're seeing in Denver now, who knows? Make your own judgments about what happened there. But I think that this thing could work like, OK, yeah. The Jets are one in three, but their schedule softens up a little bit. They played a lot of their best defenses up front. You know, Zach Wilson is going to look bad against the Cowboys, but how many other people are going to look really bad against the Cowboys? Right. And now in the next few games, like they have the Broncos coming up. I mean, Zach Wilson could could legitimately put up 50 points against that team. The Eagles, who are really good defense giants, Jets, Giants before Halloween, which if he can handle the pressure. I think that's coming off a buy, too. So it's coming off a buy. You know what Wink Martindale is going to do. He does it well, but you know what he's going to do. And then the Chargers November six, the Raiders November 12th. You don't play a really good team. You play the Eagles in the bills in the next month and a half. Otherwise, you're good. Well, we're kind of like that's like and that was the whole logic behind this. And I think we talked about this last week. To me, the problem with going away from Zach Wilson, like in the whole in the first place, was a there's no better option out there right now. Right. And B, once you go away from him, you can't go back again. You know, so I think so. I think so. I knew that like it was if we bench him in consecutive years, we can't sell him to the locker room again.

We've got Mitch Golding here for what is undoubtedly my favorite day of the year, and that is relaying the results of me picking all 272 games on the NFL calendar. I have Mitch here because he is the editor that actually has to fact check the most ridiculous thing on our content calendar. I don't think it's even close. And also to do all of the tiebreakers. So I should ask you first, Mitch, how are you feeling about all of this? I'm great. I love the NFL tiebreakers. This is me in my element. I wish I could just spend my entire year doing nothing but NFL tiebreakers. I think I'd be very good at the, you know, the basically Steve Kornacki after one of the recent election cycles, they just started letting him do it on Sunday Night Football. He comes on the pregame show and the halftime show. I could do that job. Now, I love Steve Kornacki, and so I'm not trying I'm not coming for his job and I'm not trying to say that he is bad at his job, but I think that's like a role for me that I could easily handle. Just put me on there talking about tiebreakers. Oh, I love it. But Connor, I have to ask you, is this really one of your favorite days of the year? Because that's a classic thing that you say now. Let's go behind the curtain. We are taping on Wednesday and this will be revealed Thursday. I know you. You will be a ball of stress. You will be getting requests for radio shows in cities where you said their team is going to go 5 and 12. You're going to have fans yelling at you. I think you're going to be a little bit stressed tomorrow. So just try to remember right now this feeling of how happy you claim to be and try to just keep that in mind tomorrow when when people start slinging their arrows at you. You're right, Mitch. I think that the day when, you know, all radio stations want to have you on to either praise your pick or be skeptical of your pick or fight your pick. I famously got into sort of a verbal fisticuffs with a Cincinnati radio host before the year that they went to the Super Bowl. I had them projected for four wins. And I think I said over and over on the air, find me more than four wins on that schedule. I think Joe Burrow did that and then some. He got him. And but since then, you know, come full circle and everybody in the playoffs alone, which is why if you're a loyal listener to the podcast, you know, I became a Bengals fan. So it's all good. It all. Yeah. Oh, we buried the lead. Connor, how was your first week as a Bengals fan? It was great. Although if anyone listened to the podcast last week, I was between the Bengals and the Ravens. And so my wife and I watched the Ravens commanders preseason game where the streak was broken. And I got I got kind of emotional. I mean, you can read what I wrote about it and but I thought this was a very big thing. And I was very standing on the table ish for John Harbaugh and the Ravens in that moment. But I had to get that out of the back of my head. They're division rivals. And just because I almost picked them doesn't mean that I can't root against them. And so full steam ahead. We're just waiting for news on Joe Burrow like everybody else. Mitch. Yeah, it's interesting. Now everything we read of yours will be through the lens of is he being a biased fan here or is he being objective? And I don't know. I don't know. We'll find out. At least now your biases are out in the open for for all to know. I think it's going to be a fun bit to just fully jump from. I just picked this team yesterday to where have you been? I'm a dyed in the wool Bengals fan. I love Skyline Chili. Have you ever had Skyline Chili? I have. I like Skyline Chili. I know it's controversial. I like it. I'm I'm I'm a supporter. What's your like what's your workup? Do you do the whole thing? I don't. I think so. So I have not had it in a long time. So I couldn't tell you the details, but I well, let me try to remember. I think it's like five ways. I like all this, all the stuff on it. It's possible that it has gotten more ridiculous since I've been there and they're putting on like absolutely crazy numbers of toppings just for Instagram or whatever. But last I remember it was the the spaghetti, the chili, the cheese, the onions. There might have been a fifth one. The sort of I feel like I went there for the first time, right before sort of it became a thing on the Internet that people liked to complain about or argue about or say was disgusting or whatever. And so I don't know, there may have been changes in the years since, but but whatever the classic like as of the year 2010 way is the way that I've had it with with all the stuff available to me in that time. Nice. I yacked in a Skyline bathroom once because I just couldn't. The mountains of cheese. I don't like cheese, but I had a friend order it for me. And so I think if I had to do it again, I would do the spaghetti, the chili and the onions and maybe that would be something I could maybe that be something I could stomach and walk away from. I'm not going to disparage Skyline chili because my roommate used to make a really good Skyline chili dip in college. So I think if I could bring that back somehow, I'm pro Skyline. There's nothing quite like it anyway. So no, no, no, no. Don't anyway. Me. I have more Skyline chili takes. Let me give you a pro podcast is brought to you by Skyline. By the way, I have had, I have been to a Skyline chili establishment and I have had it there in the restaurant. I also, I have been to one Cincinnati reds game at, I think it was called great American ballpark at the time and it has some other new stupid corporate name now, but I ordered it at the reds game and you know, at the restaurant it comes on a plate and you're right. It's piled high with all that cheese. At the baseball game, it came in like a plastic Tupperware kind of situation with a lid and they closed the lid so that you could walk with it to your seat and that process of closing the lid. It got so hot in there that all of the cheese melted and it was excellent that cause you're right. It's the, the cheese restaurant. It's like straight out of the bag, just like the, you know, cold shredded cheese where it's the little pieces, but, but uh, in the Tupperware melted all this hot gooey cheese all over everything else I thought was a, it was a great way to enjoy it. So I have no idea if it still comes like that. This could all be different. I think that was back in maybe 2007 so we're, we're talking about a long time ago, uh, me remembering this chili that I had, uh, but loved it at the ballpark with the melted cheese. It's still great American ballpark by the way. Oh, interesting. Which is a, which so great American is an insurance company. Uh, so it is a company name, however, it's just called the great, like if you called it the great American ballpark, I feel like that's solid. Um, that's going to go down a, uh, that's going to go down a rabbit hole, but all right, I'm glad we landed there at skyline chili. Obviously as big of a bangles fan as I am, I'm going to need to learn to stomach that. I'm going to find the way that I like it. If anybody listens to this podcast and lives in Cincinnati and wants to tell me how to enjoy without skyline cheese, please leave your rating in a review and your ideal skyline markup because then that way I can, uh, I can try to duplicate it when I'm out there trying to get some season tickets and uh, you know, did you hear from any bangles fans this week? I did. Um, I got, I got welcomed with open arms. I'm, I'm pretty excited about it. I do feel like this is the right time to get in. I feel like the super bowl year would have been a little rough.

Mark Levin
Rick Renzi: Being Targeted by Special Counsel Jack Smith
"I fasted away for 9 days. He offered me 10 months in prison and one felony I refused. Went to trial. We beat him on all except a handful. The judge allowed us to move forward with appellate briefs misconduct. involving We go to the Ninth Circuit in Arizona. Arizona under is the Ninth Circuit as you know out in California and San Francisco. And the appellate judge, three judge panel. The chief judge on the appellate sweeps it all away. And as we're preparing for appellate briefs to the Supreme Court, the appellate judge, Mark, orders me to prison. It turns out the appellate judge was the mentor for a clerk, senior clerk by the name of Jack Smith. We started looking into Jack Smith in 2015. We've tracked him ever since. In April 2019, we filed a formal 190 page inspector general complaint against Jack Smith and his key underling, a guy by the name of David Harbaugh. Now when you see Jack Smith get up in the courtroom in Miami, or you see Jack Smith speak to the media, the guy who speaks to the attorney in the courtroom is a guy by the name of David Harbaugh. Harbaugh was sanctioned in my case twice, promoted after my case, went to work for James Comey and helped sweep her destruction of classified material under the rug. That's David Harbaugh. When the heat came on, he retires. Jack Smith comes back from the Hague, is appointed by Merrick Garland. He pulls David out of private practice to put the hit on President Trump. So James Comey's hit Whitman is the guy speaking in the Miami courtroom

Mark Levin
Rick Renzi: Why Merrick Garland Likely Chose Jack Smith
"So when they're looking for a hit man against the president they go to Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Barack Obama. That's who Jack Smith's golden boy. He's their golden child. That's origins the of Jack Smith. I've been studying him since 2015 when I was sentenced by the judge that he clerked for in the appellate court. Who is Jack Smith? My attorney's like, who is this guy? And that's what we started to see. We see this bloodline that runs to Eric Holder, Susan Rice, Barack Obama. That's a counsel. key So you've got Eric Holder's guy talking to the press. You've got James Comey's guy talking to the judge. Those are the two hit man against the president of the United States, former president. This is just so grotesque. really It is Soviet -like. And of course they have the media in their back pocket because the media hate Trump and the they love Democrat Party and they want the Democrat Party to win. And so he picks Jack Smith because he's advised by the likes of the people you mentioned, as well as a number of the people internal there, who are very familiar with Smith, probably familiar with this guy David Harbaugh. And they know these are hit men, correct? They bring Harbaugh out of retirement. I mean, he's done. Jack Smith is almost in retirement. He's got one foot in retirement. He's in a hay growing a beard. He's done. And so they put this team back together that are very professional and tactical deception operations,

The Rich Eisen Show
"harbaugh" Discussed on The Rich Eisen Show
"Arizona took a big swing to bring him in. And even though he did have some productivity there, I think it's fair to say that it didn't work out how anybody would have anticipated. So would looking at teams' cap space give us an indication of, you know, the market or that means nothing? Teams can just rework deals to make sure Hopkins gets in the fold and a bunch of veterans or players might be willing to talk turkey with general managers on that front right now? Well, teams increasingly, Rich, over the last couple of years have been really aggressive, adding void years. So you could do something like let's use $15 million just as the baseline here. You do a $15 million signing bonus plus $1 million base salary for Deandre Hopkins. You add four void years on top of it. He's got a one -year, $16 million deal that accounts for about $4 million on your cap this year. There's different ways you can get around this. And I don't think the cap space is the driving force. I think as much as anything, it's opportunity. Deandre Hopkins is a high -volume type of a player. He is a strong personality, too. Even though he comes across as very laid -back, you're going to feel Deandre Hopkins when he's in the room. Again, he's very talented, but he's been banged up the last couple of years, and he's frankly not as young as he was a few years ago either. So I think it's going to be a fairly short list. Obviously, a lot of teams will poke around on it and see what the market is here. But I would anticipate this is pretty targeted in terms of who's going to be in Deandre Hopkins' mix, who's going to be willing to pay that type of money to bring in that specific player, not up in kind of the overall dynamic and chemistry of your offense and have a chance to win right now at a time that he's going to want to make sure that he's getting money up front. I got 90 seconds left. What can you tell me about Jimmy G and his foot and when we can expect him back in Vegas? What do you got for me there? So if you remember back, Rich, Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to terms very quickly on the first day of the negotiating window, but he didn't actually sign the contract. I can't believe his press conference got delayed at one point. There was a week or two there where there was at least some questions, and then it kind of died down because he ended up signing, had the press conference. Everything was well. Well, part of what was happening there was he was coming off of that foot injury, which you remember Kyle Shanahan in a way that only Kyle Shanahan can describe the injury as. There's a bunch of stuff broken in there. It was a significant type of an injury that sidelined Garoppolo for the remainder of the season there. What they determined was he needed an additional procedure. It was described to me yesterday as a cleanup. I was told by somebody close to him that everything is progressing well at this point. Josh McDaniels was nonspecific about when Jimmy will be back on the field, which Josh, frankly, him is not a criticism, but he's going to be nonspecific about pretty much anything in the injury area, particularly in May. I did open the possibility that maybe Jimmy's not back on the field until training camp. We'll see whether or not that's the case, but I have not seen or heard any real angst about Jimmy not being ready to roll by the time the regular season rolls over. You're the man. Thanks, Tom. Appreciate you hopping on real quick. Short notice. Appreciate it. Thanks, Rich. You bet. That's Tom Poser. I remember that. Remember, Jimmy G was. He didn't. It took him a bit to sign it, and then his press conference got delayed. Oh, my goodness gracious. Wow. And everybody's wondering, what's the NFL up to the Friday before Memorial Day? The answer? A lot.

"Unprepared because you can't prepare for that. But you try to prepare as much as you can and you're always keeping your targets on it. And so you try to either get the great franchise quarterback one that you could rise for ten plus years or you try to get a plug in quarterback like we had with Jim Harbaugh in almost gone to the Super Bowl in 95. We're all of a sudden you get a guy who is good enough and as you surrounded with the right things you can win. But let me just say this guys, you see the importance of quarterback when you see what went on with deshaun Watson. I mean, here is a franchise in Cleveland saying that we're going to give up all this money and we're going to take all these chances with all the stuff that's happened that's still unresolved off the field and we're not even going to have them for maybe the first 8 to ten games, but quarterback being that much to us that we're going to go through all that including you have to answer questions is this right for the franchise, et cetera. I mean, that's our incredibly how important the position is and so you will do anything and everything you can and I'll say this because I had people talk to me directly about Colin Kaepernick look at a team like us and we thought that Khan was a guy becoming and still played great football. Every single day of the week, you're going to sign it. I mean that quarterback position is so coveted and so hard to still that you're trying to do everything you can and so right now we know that right at the temporary solution, we hope for two or three years, but we're already making plans for the future after. We are speaking right now with Jim irsay. He is the owner and CEO of the Indianapolis colt NFL club. This is Bloomberg business of sports

"His forte is what defense That defense was awful. Last year, Ryan Tannehill He's not the main attraction on that offense. I actually would argue this when you look at the offense. There are three other bigger attractions on offense. For the Tennessee Titans before you get to the quarterback. Would you agree with that? That Julio Jones, AJ Brown. Derrick Henry are bigger attractions. Then Ryan 10. Oh, yes. Oh, yes. Ryan Tannehill. He's more than a game manager, but I wouldn't call him a great quarterback going to come a very good quarterback. The last two years. He's been good. We saw that what happens when Derrick Henry gets taken away as what transpired in the playoff game? He's not going to go win the game on his own. Does he have some clutch plays? Yeah, I saw him up against the Patriots have two big third down conversions and Tom Brady's final game. But I'm not in love with this Tannehill Vrabel connection at seven on this list. Like I would much rather have Stefanski and Mayfield in that spot. Six. Josh Allen, Sean McDermott, Love it. Five. Lamar Jackson. John Harbaugh. Love it. Now I do have some Some gripes with the order, but nothing major. Have zero problem with Pekao. Russell Wilson, Here's an interesting one. Aaron Rodgers, Matt LaFleur in at three. Don't know if three is the proper placing for Aaron Rodgers. He's awesome. For Matt LaFleur. I think he's just outside being a top 10 coach in this league. Don't get me wrong. 13 and 3 13 threes. Awesome If you take Aaron Rodgers off that team What's metaphor is a football coach. Rogers the floor. It seems like they're on the same page and Rogers has no problem with him. But now the floor it did make that bone headed decision. Kick a field goal and get the ball back to Tom Brady when they were down by eight. Eventually feel good was good that they were down by five. Mahomes. Rita, too. This one surprised me. Think Mahomes and read should be number one that's coming from the biggest Tom Brady fan in the world. Guess, though. If you want to play it this way, Brady arians that smother Mahomes and Andy Reid in the Super Bowl. So that would be my assumption on why Brady and Mahomes or Brady in Arians are in front of Mahomes and read. Bruce Arians. The top 10 coach. Andy Reid is the second best coach in football behind Bill Belichick and Tom Brady is still a top three quarterback in the sport. But I look at Anti read Mahomes. Mahomes. I would say, Top three quarterback probably the best. He is the best quarterback in football right now currently That's redundant. Andy Reid. Is the second best coach. I think they've got to be number one. If I was making this list here would be my top five. Number one. Mahomes read. Number two. Arians Brady. Three. I would put Russell Wilson Pete Carroll. In front of La Fleur Rogers. The For Rogers would be 45. I had to decide between Lamar Jackson and John Harbaugh or Josh Allen and Sean McDermott. Lamar Jackson's one M V P. John Harper's won a Super Bowl, but it's entering this season. If you ask me at quarterback, Who would you rather have? I'd rather have Josh Allen over Lamar Jackson for this season, and I've been a big Lamar Jackson supporter ever since he did come out of Louisville. The coach. Sure, I'd rather have John Harbaugh. But McDermott Think is a top 10 coach, I think is an extremely underrated coach. He's made the playoffs three times the last four years in Buffalo. One of those years, Tyrod Taylor was the starting quarterback. I'll look at the quarterback and put some more stock in there, so number five of my list.

"And he was the one who actually laid the groundwork for this and he explained it's more common in the corporate world To actually retain these employees deferred compensation place So he was trying to re- retain jim horrible. What's interesting about this and this has happened in the in the sports world all the time. Jim harbaugh has not been doing very well. As the coach of michigan and a lot of people alumni would like to see him fired but in order for him to fired have to actually Built con the contract and there is there are buyout clauses and things like this are put into the contract but this is actually helping jim horrible too because it's it's making him less desirable to be fired. Both parties are are getting kind of what they want. that is so interesting so interesting bris. You also shared that. There was another coach. That isn't a similar situation. So i'm very happy about this. Because this is bringing these types of strategies more to the forefront so then dabo sweeney who's the head football coach at clemson university. He won the national championship. I believe two years later and renegotiated his contract and they did. They negotiated a very similar situation. That part of his compensation would be split dollar arrangement into A cash value life insurance policy so this is becoming more and more high profile. He even like you mentioned before you know. Jc penney and And walt disney. Which i know both because jc penney was actually born in hamilton zuri and realize that dizzy was was actually born in marceline missouri. So we hear about this. We hear about both of these in missouri. A lot when we're talking about life insurance. I it comes up a lot And so this is being brought to the forefront that people you know one of the common things we hear all time rachel is. Why haven't i heard about this before with the first question or the first answer. That question is because this is a private contract. People aren't going to one of the benefits of it is being private so people are going to talk about it if gets private So i really liked that university of michigan and clemson and we just recently got the ex disclosure for president and biden who actually shows. He has four He has four cash value life insurance from a mutual company. And so more of these because of the freedom of information. Act when you're at a public or government Situation it has to be revealed and then people in general public can say oh. Wow jim harbaugh and devils sweeties who they can afford the greatest financial advisors in the world. Think this is a good idea. Why should i think this is a good idea. I definitely agree and especially for those of us who make decisions whether we like it or not. We are all influenced by what other people are doing. And when we see other people making great decisions and we think that they are the kind of people who would make great decisions. That really is validating. So if you're in a position where you're saying. Hey i really was hoping to find out some other people who have used life insurance in their financial strategy. This is an excellent will compact episode for you today to see some real world proof of people who you recognize their name when you hear it who are using life insurance..

"With an employee. This is not something unique. That university of michigan figured out I've actually put this in play with with the employees as small as ten. I think it was although you can do smaller than that and the reason you do this normally is you do it in in some form deferred cop situation. So you're gonna tell your employees. I would like you to stay around. So i'm going to pay for for this until this date. And then if you stay around you actually become the owner of the policy but at that date when you become the owner. You're responsible for the the premiums alka that that's why they call it split dollar you're trying to figure out how the employer's going to pay and then when the The insured or employs gonna pay. You're splitting the who's gonna play. Hey the premiums so this is a very useful thing for employees to actually negotiate different than a 401k. Compensation and this is a very key point here because the orissa act dictates 401k's and compensation like qualified plans. Whether they're sep plan so you cannot discriminate with any employees so in other words. If you offer to one employee you have to offer it to all the employs. So it's usually university of michigan which would actually be a four zero three b plan. So they have. I'm sure they have a four zero three b plan. They can't tell jim harbaugh. We're gonna give new four three b. and we're going to contribute everything to your zero three being. You don't have to contribute anything because that's discriminating. According to the orissa laws that are on were book. How well him. More than another employee than the other ones. Now they're doing that right. That's because insurance is not governed. Orissa doesn't govern insurance products so they're able to discriminate and only give it to jim harbaugh or whomever else they they choose as a form of compensation. i think. This is just really interesting way of looking at life insurance because often we talk about how you can't personally own life insurance on yourself and then you can use your cash value for.

"We're having a great conversation this morning about people who use life insurance now life insurance is something that is very interesting because it's very private and not a lot of people publicly announced that they're using life insurance and so that's why it can be a little bit challenging to figure out who are the high profile people who are using life insurance and so we want to talk with you about this today. Bruce brought this topic to this particular article to my attention. And so i wanted you to just share a little bit about why we're talking about this today and then we'll dig into jim harbaugh. Well i think one of one of the reasons why. I think we need to let people know about this first of all. This is not a product. This is a strategy and reason that I would say that institutions use this sh At an institution could be In this case It could be a business. Could be a private business. it could be a corporation. It could be frankly a family that can use the reason they use this. It's a it's a failsafe to actually make sure that they get Their investment protected and not just the in the person they're ensure their insurance but it's also so that they get a return on the money that they compensate the person for so that they can actually offer more compensation to that person because they know down the road. They're going to be reimbursed for that compensation in the term of the death benefit so this is a long term.

What's in the books. I get that but going back to harbor extension was i think i think the extension is good for both sides and people say well. Why don't you just move on from him. Because of what. I because y. Because of one to four year. And i and because of just a very uncharacteristic type season of that we have from michigan like has besides last year. This team is on a winning record every single year. He's been there michigan fans. What are we known for. What is it what is it. We are not on the level of ohio state. Okay and the thing with harbhajan and scientists tension was nice about this extension is that it's less money. Which kind of tells me i. I'm pretty sure an nfl team would at least give it a shot and giving him some more money than what michigan would've given him pretty sure that because of what he did in the nfl. Multiple mc tile game Championship games a super bowl appearance. I'm pretty sure team would have given him more money than what michigan's giving him okay. But this contract was is incentive based to pay your make less money but if you want more you got to do this you got to do that and you do that. So i'm pretty sure all those fall in line to push hard be better coach and the buyouts cheaper to live. We want to fire him at some point next year. The team like i. I liked the higher. She's done for the most part. I like the mike hart higher. I liked that he fired. Don brown. i'm happy about that. The only concern. I have is who his replacement was mike mcdonald. Are mcdonald's. accuse me who was a linebacker coach for the baltimore ravens. Okay that is. He called his brother john. Harbaugh said hey man like anybody on there. That's pretty good. Yeah him on there that they can call. It can run defense. I got this guy. He's only thirty five years old. they're called blaze but linebacker coach. If you want. I'm concerned about that. That is my only concern. I i'm not saying that. The guy can't coach i just. He has never call plays. He's going to michigan. Which i think recruit is going to be good for them because he's just come from the nfl so he knows what it takes. A coach nfl linebacker. So i believe it's going to be good for him. I just hope it works out as far as the defense. I hope our defense gets better than them. Sure will i just need to see it on paper.

Almost one hundred yards rushing the giants. He was thirteen carries for eighty yards. The jaguar was ten carries for thirty five yards and the buffalo bills cares three or four yards. He didn't have a lot of great running games to end the season. But i just don't know. If lamar jackson is i know you. If you're the ravens you guys signed to an extension. Because of what he's done. Yeah he got a playoff win. Great playoff one but throwing the football. I just don't know about this guy. And i'm not saying he can't. I'm just saying if he's proven if he's elevated his game as a passer the last game browns versus the chiefs. Hey chase claypool. Juju smith schuster. Is this still the same cleveland. Browns team is this still the same old browns. Shut up. dude you guys are. What's wrong with the pittsburgh steelers. I don't care what anyone says. Now the first half was not good. It was not good at all. It was nineteen to three halftime but the browns quit. The defense kept their composure. Unfortunately patrick mahomes did leave the concussion and the browns almost seize the opportunity now. I hope. I really hope for the sake of next week's game with the chiefs. Take on the bills. I really hope that the homes is. They're healthy because you really don't want to look back and say well. If patrick mahomes was healthy who knows how the game would have been so. I really hope for the the bill sake and achieve sake that patrick mahomes is there but now let's just say this is top of the browns. Okay this team is going to be good for for the next few years at least like kevin stefanski browns team. You very good. Why because they were able to have balanced and kevin stefanski got them all to buy into what he was doing. Okay with coach kitchens the year prior. He no like head coach material yet. "I think his first game in his rookie year was against Baltimore. I think Baltimore one I think was like 47 to 3. I think that was the game that that they had this success. Both teams coming in as you Mentioned red hot buffalo winning seven in a row 10 out of 11. They had come of age in a row until last week against the Indianapolis Meanwhile, Baltimore's won five in a row. They've covered seven in a row of Baltimore's 16 year old, covering seven in a row. Of course, there's some question about the competition that Baltimore faced and defeated Cleveland playoff team and, of course, Tennessee last week. Otherwise, the other four winds were against a non playoff teams. Buffalo had a little bit of Better success meeting some of the teams that made the playoffs, But they also beat a couple of non playoff teams as well. Personally, I like Baltimore because of the overall experience age that they have, even though they've, uh, they've lost their last two playoff games the last two years with a lot of the same roster, but they have a lot of playoff success going back. And of course, I've always been A big fan of John Harbaugh, the coach of Baltimore. Tookem won a Super Bowl with him against his brother back earlier in the team's I like both of these teams. I like both of these head coaches. Baltimore's offense has been sneakily better than I think A lot of people realized because has been their defense that gets most of the accolades at plus three. Have the like of Baltimore in the game would not be surprised if Baltimore wins out right, and I think, as I've told you during our conversation earlier, I think I even mentioned it last week. I thought that the winner of the Baltimore, Tennessee or Buffalo if we're gonna win their last game, So the winner of this game has a real good chance of going into Kansas City and certainly making a competitive game and possibly pulling out right upset next week, But they got to get there first. I think it'll be Baltimore going. Of course, that means Andy is not gonna be picking the Cleveland Browns in Sunday's game. We'll get to that a little bit late up anyway. If you need to know about Michigan. She's got Michigan football. She she's got answers. That being said Angelique, my first question to you. Jim Harbaugh was coming back for less money and Are we getting a new? Are we getting a new staff or had they re signed the guys that were on the staff? Well, I mean, I think there's there's definitely gonna be some changes. And, uh, hasn't no. I don't know of anyone who is still in the building whose side it doesn't mean they're not going to. I just think that On the defensive side. They're waiting. I'm sure for the new defensive coordinator to show up and she sounds like it's Mike McDonald from the Ravens staff. And But you're looking at guys like Mike shortage in Chandu? Uh um They have contracts up. I am. I don't know what his status is. But my gut feeling is that newel will be back. And, um, you know that, But I do have to talk to the new defense. A corner coordinator can't just be Jim Harbaugh's assigning these guys to him. I'm sure that he wants to bring some of his guys. Um or guys that he's identified that he wants coaching with him at Michigan and, um, on the offensive side in the Daniels is not back the quarterbacks coach And, um, you know, we'll see where that goes. You know, General Omar gonna take over the quarterback Sounds like that's that's a plausible solution. And, you know, does Does. J. R. Bob moved to special teams only opening up a spot? That's what time will tell, But it's they definitely granting up and getting that getting closer to making the seclusion. Happy New Year. Anjali straight to hear from you. Thanks for coming up you needed then it's thank you. Yeah, I wanted to say you are 100% correct in how this all played out with Jim Harbaugh on. You know, you're stuck to your guns. Even I didn't think it was the most exciting, you know. I guess position to say what? No, He's just, you know, taking us sweet, old time, those that you're not my words, not yours. But that was, you know my perception of what you're telling us like. No, he's he's not, You know, throwing his head on the NFL ring. There's no overtures here. Or anything else, but there's been so many things that have been, and I know it might sound like a beating that horse here but to your understanding. What did is there any truth? That word manual didn't offer up? This this contract until after national signing day. That's my understanding. Dennis. Is that the first contract that Harbaugh Saul was on and try and look at the calendar December 18th? I believe it has had Friday. Um, you know, they just started meeting I am Jim and and word and that was the contract. I know. You know, There were initial reports of the three year extension, which actually never could get confirmed. And, um, not saying that they're not accurate. I just never could confirm it. And this was, you know, for five years, a five year deal. Including the year the last year that was on his contract. And, frankly, I mean, you look at this sure looks like like brilliant maneuvering by word manual. I'm getting your head coach to take half of what he was making. And a nun signing up for all these incentives that, frankly, you know, they could be hard for Michigan to achieve most of those right? I mean, we haven't seen any evidence. That he should be collecting million dollars for winning a big 10 title, etcetera, But um and I'm not even going to be sleeping. Way haven't seen. I'm not trying to be a jerk. I mean, look how statesmen dominance and you know, people are like Why isn't a little House state bonus And I thought, Well, I mean bringing a big can East division because there's there's 500,000 for that. That would probably mean beating Ohio State. So that's your house a bonus? I am. But this is you know, it sure looked like like really solid, solid work from Ward manual in my opinion. I'm trying to. I'm on John's time on John John U Bacon when he announced that knew there was a contract and everything trying to see what what day that was. Because there was a fucking How do you know that? I think it was December 7th. Okay, so it was before signing day. Mm hmm. So, yes. So there was there was a tinkering of a new contract or talks of it, but they didn't actually put pen to paper. My understanding is that war did not present a contract Jame until that Friday. Um so I'm not sure where the three year extension thing came from. I really don't. I mean, I know that Me I could writing. You know, I didn't mail bags every week and people cook asking me November. Um, What do you think's gonna happen? Was Jim Harmon? I said, Well, the only way I see him coming back is a reduced salary. Um, for you know this extension on the contract with a reduced salary and higher incentives and and and obviously a lower buyout, which you see that too. I mean, this is Yeah, This is really it comes out is a huge win for Michigan when you look at the numbers on this contract, But, um, but that was the only thing I saw. Logically, when you take into consideration everything that we're manuals facing right now, which is $80 million with his estimate in November of what this what this pandemic is Has done to Michigan's athletic department, let alone the fact that he had to lay off people along people Couple dozen, and he's a here like okay, this is what he's operating from from behind in $80 million All and you gotta that was just logically. But when I look at this contract I just think this is a maybe the way a contract should be written going forward, Especially now, with all these athletic department struggling, and they're cutting sports and cutting people from the stabs and, you know, I know that this was this is what the going rate for these top notch coaches and when Jim Harbaugh $8 million, That's that That was what Hop coach we're getting. And, um, I just wonder if athletic directors they're looking at war to think he just had to do this because they have got to start saving money somehow, and I've always liked it. Incentive based. Contract and I mean, I just think that he keeps your coaches on their clothes and I'm not suggesting Jim was under any other coach, but it does keep that competitiveness going is they know they have to reach these certain levels to make that accept additional income. And you like I can agree with everything you just said. But if the contract if Jim I'm not saying if he was smarter, I'm going to say if he was wiser he why not do that if he would have did that contract Before the panted big board a pandemic or during the pandemic. He wouldn't he would have made out more because before they kicked off the ball, but his contract went down because the team wasn't playing well in front of us, right? Well, let's let's think that maybe there was a contract extension presented to him a year ago in January, and maybe it was comfortable years. You know a number of years on that extension, but maybe it wasn't the money that he wanted. Maybe you wanted a little bit more money and sent it back toward manual. I think that's a very strong possibility. And then bam, the pandemic it and they were right. I mean, he said, there are bigger fish to fry. At that time. He said it again later in the summer, he was right. There were bigger fish to fry. And you know to enforce seasons didn't help. And, uh, you know, over in five minutes. So how state didn't help and all those things are you looking at it?.

"Jim Harbaugh and and credit to Michigan's 80. This contract doesn't really have a huge buyout in it. So I think Harbaugh was looking in the mirror and he's saying himself. You know what? I don't deserve to have $20 million by Ana. I think Michigan's 80 said, You know what? We'll give you this extension, but it's pretty clear that if if you don't get the job done, you know we're gonna let Ugo and frankly, I think that What hurts the program. The most is Flirtation with the NFL over and over and over again. So you have to realize that you know what he can do this this offseason Jim Harbaugh. What he can do. He can go into Tommie Smith Living room, You know, a four star prospect in the state of Ohio and say, I just signed a five year extension come up to Michigan play for me for the next four years. But does he actually plan on being there for four or five years? That's a whole different conversation. Absolutely. John Hayes from the athletic and just a quick note here, John. "We're gonna have to run the ball and slowly gained down and Keep Alabama's offense off the field because there really isn't much other way to keep him from scoring. Which of those Alabama receivers do you like better as a pro, John bottler, Devante Smith. Oh, I just had I think they're both really good. I don't know that you can really distinguish him. And of course, we haven't had a chance to see that much a lot of this year because he's been hurt. But both of those guys are able to make huge plays. Tough catches catches in traffic. I mean, there really isn't much either. One of those guys can't do And it just seems like Alabama crazy guys out every year. All right, sir. They just okay. I'm just a factory Eyes Alabama. Obviously, the you know, recruiting at such a high level. Um, toe have that that kind of success. Nick Saban on a year in and year out basis. How about their quarterback play, though? How do you think that that matches up Mack Jones with with with with fields Well, Mac has had a terrific season on guy Think you know Alabama's offense with their Especially the deep passing game can really take advantage off of one sort of glaring weakness on Ohio State, which has been their secondary this year. They've got. You know, Wade back there is a NFL corner, but they haven't really got much around him as they usually do. And I just think that Mac Jones can have a really good day if they get protection, which is always important, and Ohio State, usually pretty good. Causing trouble for the pastor. Robin Lundberg, talking to Jerry Palm College football analyst CBS Sports on the national title game and lets us spend Ah, minute on the Jim Harbaugh extension. Could he get fired? For underperforming. What led T this extension And were you surprised? No, I mean they've been talking about it for a while, so it wasn't a surprise. Um, I'm not the only place that I really didn't think they would fire him based off a bad year. When you had covert problems, and everybody was everything was chaotic and he won nine or 10 games a year. You know, leading into this year, you know, pretty every year he'd been there, so it's not like there was a pattern of trouble that led to a dismal year. This year. They just got off on the wrong foot. Never got going and there's your season was disjointed at Michigan, and it was just a mess. But still giving him an extension makes sense. Now this one is I guess his base pay is lower, Probably more incentives. On. That makes sense, too, because the one thing that they actually hired him to do is beat Ohio State That isn't done that yet. And in fact, the only about 500 against Michigan State So the two most important games on their schedule. He's not doing that. Well, you know the other game. They're doing great. But you know that. I think the the plan here's the You know, they've got to recruit better. I mean, Ohio State. Running out a bunch of NFL guys. What's more than anyone else in the big 10? Michigan's not gonna beat them until they can start recruiting at that level. I don't know what hardball is going to do about that, but because he hasn't been able to do it yet. Why is it that? I mean, it seems to me that is it A big three right now? Is it Alabama, Clemson and Ohio State? I mean, is that where we're at now? Maybe I'm missing. Oklahoma, perhaps girl home in there to, um they didn't get there this year could they got to a rough start, but You know, they're pretty much the king of the big 12 and year in and year out wins at league, So you know that those are the four that we almost start with pretty much every year. And until somebody comes along and knocks one of them down Well, we're still gonna be talking about those four now. Oklahoma still won the league, but they had two losses. So they have a shot at the playoffs, and Notre Dame had a strange year where they actually got to play in the conference. On dad a different kind of schedule than we normally see. So we'll have to see what it is going forward, but I think Notre Dame's gonna be a factor too. Brian Kelly's got that program starting to Max out a little bit, so I think that we talked about Notre Dame in the future, too. So you think Notre Dame should be allowed back in the college football playoff? Well, if they can, you know, win enough games to get considered, you know, but they'll be playing only half in the CC schedule going forward, not a full one. Why is it that those teams are so you know, especially the four we mentioned? Is it the success that just begets more successful? What are the recruiting advantages there? Yeah, well, the recruiting advantages. You're in the play off most of the time, and kids want to play in the playoffs. So you know that they haven't easier time recruiting before in five star guys that they keep in the playoff every year, and it's zey. Huge advantage. You know, when you're when you're stringing together that level of success. You know, that's that's a tremendous advantage on the recruiting trail and for Ohio State. Um, there isn't really much of a weakness to his game. He reads defenses. Well, he could make any throw. Um, you could even run. People don't think about it much as a runner, but he's a pretty good runner, too. Dallas Cowboys fire defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and defensive line coach Jim Tomsula
"Do have some breaking news on friday afternoon. The first friday after the dallas cowboys season ended an unfortunate start the new year for their staff. That dallas cowboys. Making some you know some obvious news in a bit of surprise news the dallas cowboys announcing that defensive coordinator. Mike nolan defensive. Line coach jim. Tom soula have been let go. Have been whatever you wanna call it fire to buy the team. They will not be back in two thousand and twenty one. Mike nolan obviously oversaw. One of the worst defenses to ever live ever played in the nfl. And so we'd heard. Rumblings obviously had been reported different instances over kind of the last month that it was likely he was not going to be back although mike nolan. If you're somehow unaware is is rather chummy with mike mccarthy dallas cowboys head coach mike mccarthy they go way back in case. You forgot mike. Nolan was the head coach of the san francisco. Forty niners in two thousand and five and mike mccarthy offensive corner at the time that was of course the year. The forty niners took alex smith with a number one overall pick. Ironically the quarterback that won the division that they were together here. This season with the dallas cowboys. Jim thome soula was a head coach of the forty niners at one point in time himself albeit for only a year obviously following in the footsteps of jim harbaugh who got an extension today of all days again with the university of michigan so lots of symmetry going on here and so. Yeah i mean my canola thing. I think everybody saw coming a mile away. The jim thome solo thing is a bit of a surprise austin on youtube. Says i thought it said mccarthy and was like whoa still good to get rid of nolan and this is how every cowboys fan feels. And let's be frank. Let's be honest. We don't enjoy talking about people losing their jobs. People getting fired or things like that but this defense was among the worst again in the history of this game. The dallas cowboys last week. With their season on the line against an offense that had been anemic for most of the season the new york giants that was incidentally again. You talk about all. The irony here led by former dallas cowboys head coach jason garrett in the giants offensive coordinator who again to go kind of crazy circle reportedly had an interview today on friday with the los angeles chargers for their head coaching vacancy. But the cowboys new york with their season on the line and they got run over. I mean the new york giants before last week against the cowboys. The previous four games. The giants had not scored more than three points in a single first half in each of the four games. The giants played before the cowboys. They went into the locker room at halftime with no more than three points. They put twenty up in the first half against the cowboys. And that was kind of what the season was for the cowboys right. This never ending display of imperfection this never ending run of records getting broken records getting set and i just you know this was inevitable. I mean shutout. Of course to the all encompassing thanos. I mean this truly was inevitable. Reality a lotta people myself. Included wondered what took so long this week. It's a pair at the mike mccarthy and his staff overall were evaluating things doing kind of the final walk throughs and assessments in whatever time just came for them to move

"It that I'm gonna go back to watching my Thursday night comedies. Leave me alone. That's it. That's what it is. S O Yeah, a plethora of big stories breaking Throughout the show tonight, Number one as we mentioned Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines, finalizing a five year extension harbor will take a pay cut, but he is going to stay on his Michigan head coach will have more on that coming up in a half hour. Kyrie Irving Skip tonight's game against the 76 years for the Nets. He's not gonna play in the next game, either. Meanwhile, both games for next both next games for these teams were up in the air as Seth Curry comes back with a positive covert 19 tests. So now these teams have to quarantine following their game tonight. So we have all this going on the Mets make that big trade. We go to the World Series, but the story that keeps gaining momento em is what is going to be next in the drama that is to Shawn Watson. Pro football talk earlier today breaks the story that to Shawn Watson unhappy In Houston and potentially could ask for a trade used to put out a statement or are actually, the Houston Chronicle says in talking to the Texans. They have said there is no way we're trading to Shawn Watson s. So what is he upset about? Well, It turns out, that's a little bit more of the same. He is upset that his opinion has not been asked when it comes to making big decisions. He was upset a year ago that he was told that they were trading DeAndre Hopkins when he would have said, What the hell are you doing? Which, obviously, when you finish foreign 12, he was right. But the other night when the Patriots were able to, uh they were able to shake the Patriots player personnel development away to hire him as their new GM. Sean watch and put out a tweet that said some things never change. And I remember on the show. We said he's not talking about hiring a GM. You think it could be anything else? But this is not people don't talk about not hiring a GM. No, it turns out. That's exactly what to Shawn Watson was upset about that he was not asked his opinion about the Texans going and hiring a GM and they didn't listen to him with with his suggestions that he had this is what is upset because very quickly they went out and hired someone from the Patriots without going through more. Hey, I like this guy. I like this guy. Now. This is not being a diva. A diva is you hire who I want around? Not gonna play. This is too Shawn Watson. From a new angle of what all of us would be if there was a big change happening in our lives and and and and on our shows or wherever you work. You would like to be asked by your superiors. Hey, what do you think would work and it doesn't. They don't have to listen to you. But if they listen to you, and you give me an idea, and they like it, Maybe it works and it lets you feel valued as an employee. They asked my opinion. And you Meanwhile, they didn't. They didn't go with what I said. But okay, they listen to me. This is what the showing wants is upset about And I can't say I blame him, Mike, because when you are the face of the franchise, and this is your career to yourself, I'm the big star here. Why wouldn't you ask me? Why wouldn't you ask to Shawn Watson? Listen, what he has to say when it comes to Hey, I I lead these guys every day into battle. Every Sunday I leave these guys. Why wouldn't you listen me? Why wouldn't you listen to me? What I tell you what I need to win on this football team because he is the guy you listened to. So this is come. Pleat Lee on Houston, the mismanagement from Bill O'Brien all the way through Now you have to keep your stars happy. And this is where the Texans have failed. Miserably have not kept to Shawn Watson happy and now I don't care what the Texans say He's gonna wind up being traded. If he says I want to trade then he's gonna wind up being traded. The Texans can say there's no way we're doing it. But how many times do you hear? We're not trading this guy And then when somebody says I don't want to play there They eventually pulled the trigger, whether it's Antonio Brown from the Steelers or anybody else, any stars say I want out there's no way we're trading. You guess what, all those guys get traded. So now it's just a matter of when it's gonna happen for two Shawn Watson because he's going to be dealt now, Is it going to be this week is gonna be next week is gonna be the draft. But it's going to happen because if he is this unhappy and we've heard stories for a long time that he is, this is not going to be tenable. And he's gonna wind up being ex Texan and everybody's all over the Internet going who he could be on my Team and you're seeing this Shawn Watson and Patriots uniforms and all kinds of 40 Niners uniforms. Everybody's having Christmas Day today. Well, part of it, though, becomes is just Shawn Watson just never going to be happy. It's like Bill O'Brien didn't like what they were doing there. Well, like like a lot of people like Bill. Oh, no. But the point just becomes a Is he just gonna be a malcontent? Look at some of the teams that would be up on the trade block here, and he does have a no trade is. Jay Glazer reminded us last hour, so that's part of the deal that you have to navigate is to come to him with a deal to a team that he feels he's in a better situation. He just had career numbers..

Why Tom Seaver Is The Greatest Met Ever
"People perhaps too young to have seen it and to have lived through it. How would you put into words what Tom Seaver meant to baseball and particularly in New York in the late sixties and the seventies? Well. He's the greatest met ever and there is not a close second. He's for me one of the ten greatest pitchers of all time when you look at his wins, his era and his strikeouts, the only pitcher in history that can match those numbers is Walter Johnson whose regularly considered the greatest. Of all time top seaver struck out ten batters in a row that is still a major league record and they were the last ten hitters of the game showing how strong he was at the end Greenie I was twelve years old when he pitched the mets to the world championship in nineteen, sixty nine it was absolutely breathtaking to watch a pitcher who threw that hard with that kind of precision and the way he threw that back news to drag against the ground. He was so big and he was so strong. He was Tom Terrific in every way he was he was like a superhero in my youth. I grew up in New York and I wasn't met Fan, but you couldn't not not only admire him but you're almost all of him. He became almost mythical figure you can. We talk about that a little bit not not just how great pitcher he was the numbers tell you that story but just what he meant in an even larger sense than that, how would you put that into words? Well he was so much a celebrity in New York because he was so smart he was. So worldly, he did the New York Times Crossword puzzle every day and apparently nobody did it better than he did and he never took himself too seriously Dick Schaap told this great story one night that Dick arranged a party out with a bunch of people, a bunch of writers and a bunch of celebrities. And among the celebrities were Muhammad, Ali and Tom Seaver and through the night went along alley. Brilliant Mad. But not a great baseball fan whispered to Tom seaver which newspaper do you work for Anti seaver like burst out in laughter that's how great he was at understanding his place and everything he said that what he retired, he wanted to become an artist, but he wasn't good enough to be an artist. On his morning radio show said that the big ten and the PAC twelve working together they were going to cancel their football seasons. The vote was twelve to two Nebraska and I think Michigan. Where the two that wanted to continue plane? No one else wanted to continue plane Jim Harbaugh of Michigan is really upset about it and they're pushing very hard to change this. Pete Ricketts. The governor of Nebraska, is openly calling for them to reject the idea been SAS. The senator from Nebraska is also calling on them to walk this back to not do this. The SEC met yesterday in an unplanned meeting, the SEC Commissioner in in President Se schools met yesterday, and they've decided to take a go-slow wait and see how it plays out approach harbaugh. For his his credit in Michigan has pointed out that the players on the football teams are actually more a safer than the other kids on campus the protocols they put in

The Paul Finebaum Show
Paul Finebaum reacts to Michigan president's comments
"Was some very important news yesterday. Out of the University of Michigan where the President Dr Mark Schuessel? Who has an immunologist by training? Not The most common thing you see for a president a State University made a lot of news by tapping down some of the positivie about college football talking about how there would be no college football unless students were on campus. He referred to his training as a medical doctor. Phd In relation to doubting seriously that there could be college football fans in the stadiums and they also broke down the importance of college football but in the context of the University of Michigan overall. Dowse a little water on that as well saying that the university stand on its own. This comes in some contrast to what Jim told us last week on on get up when he said he would be okay with football. As long as he didn't he said he would. He would prefer fans but it would be okay without fans who better to talk to you than Giannis. Bacon was written callous books on the University of Michigan and certainly among the very leading experts in the world the on that subject John. Thank you Happy Memorial Day and first of all great to have you on with us and we hope you've been safe and well over these last couple of months Always a pleasure Paul and so far so good. The only we need is forty hours of daycare for weeks. My four and a half year old kid if you've got a babysitter send them up For All you've done for us I'll I'll give you some good recommendations Thank you. Let's talk about the this. I thought was a really fascinating comment first of all. Let's talk about President Schnitzel in terms of who is he what his credentials are then. They're incredible but have someone like that. Move into the presidency at school at the University of Michigan. Well his background is Brown University And California cal Berkeley so the pedigree and all that he's got a PhD in some former science probably immunology say as well as an MD. So you couldn't call them stupid He's probably also not the biggest football fan in the world. I think he probably loves the Brown model. Where you play. But it's not Nearly the importance as it is in the big ten or the SEC and so on But also knows where he is that Hundred Thousand People Disagree and they love it quite a bit so he is definitely on a high wire there But clearly his roles immunologist took over in his latest. Talk as you said if you days ago and I guess yesterday sorry And Yeah you say is very clear about this that if all the students aren't on campus. We're not going to have intercollegiate sports of any sort at least at Michigan which is not to say the big ten goes along with that or the rest of college athletics. But it's pretty hard back back down from that once you've said that and as you pointed out Paul that goes counter to what Jim Harbaugh said a few days earlier that he'll take football and almost any form Fans in the stands or not. Some graduated schedule some sort of Not Black or white but Modified approach would be fine with Jim. Which I'm sure is almost all major college football coach so I see a conflict there and I'm pretty sure I know who's going to win it. Yeah I mean there may be some school football coaches that have the clout to go head to head with the president. I doubt Jim Harbaugh wants to do that. Unless it's twenty minutes after beating. Ohio state I I I WANNA ask you. I WanNa ask you about about his comments about the budget. You know the school inside and now obviously I mean. I don't want to translate for him but he seemed to be saying that you know we we would this football but we're going on with or without it. Yeah and Miskin can right now Now the catch that is not all the big ten can goes out football Sunday. The MAC you can't. I mean look at Eastern Michigan Kent State places like that Miami of Ohio so the separation between haves and have-nots stronger not weaker. Now its biggest. Cost Ball is of course nationwide and gets all the attention at Michigan. The budget for the entire Athletic Department is around one hundred and eighty five million dollars which is almost doubled in ten years which says something right there and yet the budget for the whole university assist seven billion with a B. dollars so and half of that as a medical school on the health system so the football budget is big. It might beat us That's what they spend on rubber gloves at the hospital. So it's not that big a deal to the president. John you have a pretty good pulse on the The Michigan Fan base. I asked gently what has been the reaction about what the president said yesterday. Some folks feel yeah. Maybe there's mixed generous maybe it is It is going to be hard to argue though without students on campus having football. You're talking about exploiting the students who are in your student athletes who are not paid etc. I was become a hot button. Issue the last few years as it always should be I think That becomes greater when you're perhaps risking their health When you're not risking the other students health To play football. So that's one point of view. The flip side of course is that stadium is both the hold one hundred ten thousand people and if not for nothing of course so obviously people wanNA play football In any way she performed they possibly can Go Back Paul and nineteen eighteen when Michigan played the first game during the pandemic early October. And it flared up nationwide thereafter so they did not play again until November The team went five that your politics and on the big ten which counts as big ten champs and yes five Cowan as national champs. If only if only we're talking to John Bacon The New York Times bestselling author. He's written countless books on the University of Michigan. I WanNa take a break here because there are many issues beyond what the Michigan President feels. Although his comments probably going to be heard pretty loudly and other ivory towers around the country. I WanNa talk to John when we come back about what college football faces in trying to open up more comments from the esteemed author John U
