"Number one villain like historically but they could never put them in movies until the rights were retained or something like that until the students got a hold of the rights to use the name. Specter that kind of like why quantum was a placeholder and then it turns out. That specter is the puppetmaster for quantum i think is what it was. I don't really. I didn't get that deep into the lore. I didn't have a timer brain cells left to devote to this. Because you're right at five movies two hours a piece at least british people people. Yeah it was just not a good movie i love. Christoph waltz is an excellent actor and they tried to replicate his work in inglorious bastards here and it just didn't translate blow fell just isn't strong enough character like his character in inglorious bastards was. I can't remember hans. Lambda sounds right. He fell through for me. Yeah yeah hans landa. that's what it was he's just. You can't replicate that. Just on a whim that's a once in a lifetime. Lightning ball type thing so no time to die. The the main of. That's the main course. Oh yeah so. I went and saw this saturday. And you you just. I saw this hour go two hours ago now. Obviously a lot of things went on with this movie. It's been done for like two years. Long movie delay delay and is a long as movies. Two hours and forty five minutes. I think james bond has left active service. His piece is short. Lived when felix lighter at old friends from the cia turns up asking for help leading bond onto the trail of a mysterious villain armed with a dangerous new technology. Let me pull up my whole synopsis. The whole synopsis. I really i really like how the bond franchise it went from funding terrorist groups to now. How every single sort of worldwide threat goes to biological warfare naturally naturally of course..

"The the nazi in glorious. Best annoying you look. Christoph waltz christoph waltz hans landa german. my right yeah anyway. He's extraordinary actor. And i was read on the interwebs recently. The tarantino didn't include him in rehearsals because he didn't want anyone getting to know him he wanted him to come on set in his fucking nazi uniform and scare the shit out of everybody and i just thought that was really cool austrian german. Yes billy dee so there he is. it's a seminal moment for you This i just wanted to finish your what you said By saying what a what a what a beautiful paragraph for the case for inclusion of of all different types of people in the superhero world because little boys like you grow up going. I see myself i mean says ultimate articulation of that. Use seeing billy dee in a movie and having it make you want to become an actor and making you feel like you achieve your goals. That's really fucking awesome. Yeah the only thing that while. I was pissed off that he was a two bit hustler. But hey man that's cool so mad so caught up in the fact that he was a -tupid hustler. But when you think about it. So it was han solo. It's like there was the same character. But because billy dee was that you know it's it's the same story arc but billy dee even comes in orlando even comes in as a noble man you know. He's the leader of this big city. You know we're getting off topic. But i know i don't care. Listen that's our specialty. Listen let's get back to it and say There's so much going on in this episode. There's the sex gong. I mean thinking things in this episode like ten things that people love about scrolls that that we we get referenced. There's including landau and the deck. There's the sex gara. Yeah and now you have extraordinary hearing funniest. This was so funny when mandy moore. Who's you know up to. This point was known as sort of an innocent actress in an innocent singer that we had her banging on the monk in wall to fake like. She's having sex and she goes john up. Take it you stupid bitch. That was hilarious. I remember even thinking at the time as her boyfriend. Yes manny go for. That was awesome. That was hilarious. Hey digs have incredible hearing. Don't you have incredible. Hearing i ring the sex gog and you go. But that's not no. That's my back at our old apartment. Then so then. Carla has the voiceover obviously as we said. And then she. This is you somehow. Don't listen to her brown bear. Your body's fierce like digs like tae and that that became improv that or not but that totally trumped do that became a running thing of me to this day. When you look good saying you look digs baby. So i told him about this shit he laughs about it. He thinks it's funny. Why would taye diggs not love the fact that we're using him as an icon of a handsome man is handsome still. He's not donald stays on. He's not come on buddy joel joel. I'm on buddy. Oh yes. I'm gonna keep him one hundred real mckeever one hundred. I think i'm a handsome man like come on. I still got a baby face right. Yeah but still beautiful. That is one handsome dude. Him the idris elba with handsome. That's like handsome. Yes where it's really hot. I like i like. I like my men. The dad bought you you. I love you so much man. I don't wanna idris elba. I don't wanna ride yoursel. Budding yell eagle wanna ride lou. Make me blush. Get on your writing me. Let's go just just once. Wrote once all right so okay so then taye diggs okay. Now i apparently was. Jd was called joanna until he was three. Yes we learned yes we also learned. That jordan says something very outrageous that There at the bar and she says one of those boys could be the baby. I gave up in school. Which is one of those scrubs. One liners that might just zip by you and you don't really do the math and figure it out. But she's saying that she can't flirt with one of those boys because that it's the flashy doesn't go. There's a certain age that she doesn't go below the us. She doesn't know whatever whatever happened to that child that she gave up in high school and she doesn't want to ask that is so dark with the hardest. I laughed the whole fucking episode. When sarah our views she reveals that she wishes little bit by jazz which she gets drunk struck where she gets drunk. Listen to be a lesbian. My dear listener if you wanna know what makes me laugh. Go watch this episode and watch. Sarah drunken the bar leaning on the bar going. Oh carol do you like jazz. Yeah i do really much check videotape. That shit i videotaped off my laptop and sent it to bill and was like the. Because why are you sending this. I go because how fucking funny is it. Sarah playing someone who gets by when they're drunk hitting on a woman named carl asking her if she likes jazz and sarah's face she's like so carol. Do you like jazz. And then the woman nods and she goes you do a must reserved nor did just now that somebody ship was crying literally went back and videotape it on the screen to show bill so okay take up before we get in eventually. We got to get to the this obscene. Or i've seen the scene either on youtube but somehow it popped up on hangover hangovers. I think it all the time made me laugh very that still makes laps. It's perfect articulation of an twenty-five listening this. You think we're joking. But that that display of going around a table showing people at four different ages and how a hangover hurts the next day as the young one. And she's like hi morning and then Sarah sarah who's negative sarah's next players hurts a little bit please stop talking and then judas and then barely able to keep it together and and then jordan's like asleep with glass. Yeah like she's like comatose with glasses on shakes her jordan rooney joy delicious. A hangover is no joke anymore. Donald we're in our forties It's like a two day to day experience if you go big i get nervous when i don't get a hangover now. How about that. When you mean like if i drink and i don't get a hangover. I'm like did i drink last night. You know what i mean..

"I think that inevitability at least in the context of promising young woman is part of the threat which louise doesn't a much warmer right. But they're both stories of netted ability absolutely. So what do you get your next piece. So moving through style. I think that promising young woman is a very stylish film. I think that's what's gonna get a lot of sticking power aside from its narrative but inglorious bastards. I am interested in hearing this with inglorious bastards. It's i think just one of the best revenge. Fantasy films out there Very much a film that is drawn from the part of your creative brain about what you wish she could do when you're thinking about revisionist history new thinking about film like inglorious bastards. You wish more than anything that historically there has been this band of colorful characters that manage to blow hitler's face off a movie theater like right when you're looking at this Large store believable. That sort of thing you think about tarantino has a very particular style inglorious bastards has a very distinct style. All its own in promising. Young woman is very much the same way. I think that the the intention with design with music. I think that there is a very parallel mastery between the two directors the ability to bring in every element of look and music into a forwarding Feminine fantasy on one side macho anisi on the other. It's just it. It's something that kinda tickled by brain in that anybody who has any familiarity experience with the extent of the problem. I've trying to keep things in vague terms. 'cause i don't wanna trigger warning. Every minute of this episode is it is so frustrating to be a citizen of the world now to have in my case to have recently been a community member on college campuses to know full. Well what our culture is how it impacts able especially in You can look back to the cavanaugh hearings and get an idea of who you see the world of promising young woman at work in very much like the tragedy the real world tragedy of war two. It's a very human thing to wish for that spirit of vengeance that tarantino captures his film captured here in promising. Young woman. you it's a it's a repre- it's a reprieve from the stress of knowing that it's a real problem. Yeah i've been thinking. What glorious bastards a lot lately just with the current national discourse and you know you see a neo nazi in the news and you suddenly have an urge to revisit. Apparently no that's actually a very good point and i should do that soon. It would probably be a good way to To deal with everything going on. But i'll throw one other comparison to inglorious bastards in there. I hadn't thought of this beforehand but you know hans. Landa is just such a lovable guy and each of these dudes are until things get gross and awful are each their own little caricature of or should he dude. That is kind of fun to watch. Mclovin as the coke head you know with his shoulders scripts and the i forget his name but the main guy who's having the wedding at the end of the bachelorette parties for how he starts crying immediately. You know they're each kind of very fun to watch even though there are total shit bags. I'm so happy that you said that. Because favorite sane in inglorious bastards is the bare juicy. And i think that captures perfectly your point and i agree with you completely in inglorious bastards. The bear jew is played by ally. Roth he is a member of the nazi hunting squad in a brutal member in that he beats captured nazis to death with a baseball bat in tarantino's fashion in that scene is so impactful. Because it's a you know full well that you're looking at a jewish vigilante who is facing down the ultimate evil which is the nazi party during world war two. You're also watching a scene. Between two soldiers. It is one of the few moments in the film and and i agree onslaught says a level bad guy. That scene with the bear jew is one of the few moments in the film. Where where there's a bit of the captured nazi officer in that film is not a caricature of me-right. It's a very human moment between two people. One is infuriated by the injustice. The other is a soldier who knows what's coming. It makes it such a powerful scene and you can apply it to so many moments in promising young woman. Because you're absolutely right. And it goes all the way back to the disarming effect of those early dance aids that you're not seeing these caricatures of predatory men their average dudes. They're lovable dudes. That's part of. Why films framed the way that is to say that this isn't you don't have to be looking for the shady guy with twirly mustache right into the that that danger lurks everywhere right and it also complicates. It complicates your relationship with what's going on because it forces you the viewer you know. You're thirsty for blood just like cassie. You're also having several of those human moments back to back in his flaw. And if you're like me moving past that very quickly some viewers not so much right right absolutely well. That turned out to be a great puzzle. Piece i love that. I'm gonna go onto a piece. That i'm sure a lot of people won't like so much especially in our film twitter world but I'm going to go joker for my next puzzle piece. The todd phillips joaquin phoenix joker movie. I know i know. But i mean we are dealing with the protagonist who is lashing out against a shitty society and the actions of everybody within that society and basically taking matters into their own hands in a way that is know you root for him to a degree but at the same time is not necessarily the best way to go about things You might say and you know. Certainly these people deserve what's coming to them but at the same time Sometimes people maybe just need to take a step back and get the help that they need so they may be moved forward in a your way. You know so i do see parallels there and we also get the scene in the mirror with the clown ish makeup. That's true that's that's very on the dot. Yeah i i think that in part of the beauty of promising young woman and i and i like i do agree. That joker summarizes the day really. Well i look ahead to the future a little bit and we cannot revisit this episode and see if i was right into my crystal ball looking at to the larger release of promising young woman. There are going to be a lot of people who wants to dismiss this film as as man bashing right They may think that if they want. I personally don't care knicks. But but that will be the major responses vilification of of men in promising young woman men with the apple and the moments that i wanted to.

"Movie is trying to keep you because again. This is a big part of the ending. That like kinda like bugged me going in that. It's like i want to see this. Cassie character get some kind of closure and move on with her life and have a pet or liven. And that's not what happens and that's not what's going to happen for this person and so two to kind of to kind of balance that darkness of where the story is ultimately going to go with the kind of person that this promising young woman could have been. If not for the events you know of. The movie is is really difficult. I think i would agree. So i'll move onto another piece and this is a movie that actually just watch for the first time. Just this past week actually And and that's ridley scott's film and louise which. I think that this movie is similarly you know a very huge feminist story with an inevitably dark ending like i was just saying you know it does not go well in the end but it was never gonna go well in the end i mean. Cassie is unfortunately so damaged by what has happened in her life. That this this this revenge streak that she is on. It's not gonna get to a certain point where she's done and finished with it and happy and move on. Things have been started. That just can't be stopped at that point and that's kind of the The journey that thelma and louise go on where they're just. There's never going to be a win. There's never going to be an end at the end of their story. And so they they go for the The only end that they see at that point. And yeah it's great movie in my first time watching it so congratulations. I can't believe i never. I never saw that movie inevitability. I think that's that's what i really all out of that. I think you're so right at inevitability such a large part of louise in it's also a big part of promising young woman because going back to that very controversial ending. It is a dark gas message but the message is that the people get away with this and that in that there is no moving on from that trauma victims of these of these type of incidents. There is no moving all it becomes a part of your landscape in. It's something that touches you and for cassie in her ending to be able to in thing. I think it's very easy to to look at the film. You know where. It's the strain of destroying of teachable moments for the men that cross kassy's path leading up to that big bachelor party scene. It's very easy to kind of look at it as small pieces leading up to the major events i think that's true i think that inevitability is something that happens. Each time she enters that bar he has a really great line about how long she's been doing this. And how many times a nice guy has offered to take her home in the night has gone role and i think that inevitability at least in the context of promising young woman is part of the threat which louise doesn't a much warmer right. But they're both stories of netted ability. Yeah absolutely so. What do you get your next piece. So moving through style. I think that promising young woman is a very stylish film.
