"You can't find any articles. I can't find like an much about him on the original space ghost show like feels like just one of those villain characters who exists of course so much more in the public eye because of all the spin offs and reinterpretations. But I feel like even more so than space goes because at least you can look up. Space goes clips pretty easy. It's hard to find BRAC or his twin brother. Sisto sister yeah Brac was a space cat. Before we get to that let's check the podcast mailbag now. You say mailbag it's a cute thing to say because literally it comes in A. I'd almost say a male inboxes. Oh yeah hang on from Sydney. Just want to let you know that I really loved the interview with Jj Florida. I'm suffering animation student and a lot of people don't talk about the real shit of the animation world see. That's that's what I was saying. I feel like that just taught me more than my expensive s art school. Good job thank you. Sydney wasn't that what I preface interview. I said if you want a he's got a lot of loud advice for it. That's an look. That's exactly what I was saying. Would resonate found it fascinating. I didn't like learn any business shit in school. I didn't really want to but like he had. I don't know he seemed to have just experienced in an outlook. That was interesting about filtered. And you told me he got angry. I said that he said that. Who's WHO's Maxime Semana said? Oh yeah who does? The gave an obvious answer. Does the podcast with me. I'm a fan of his okay. He doesn't have to. I wasn't being mean. You know. He said he just said I was giving advice to college kids. Well there you go some college kid said it was a great yeah. Why wouldn't you WANNA GIVE I duNno? Imagine if I said this. Call it's morale so that's always marill. That's hells name Marill. That's a swearing. Sammy Monroe there. Did I meet you? What your audience tag. I can't talk owned four. You're sitting in. It was had been somewhere around there. When did you start? You started after the show star started on Space Ghost August ninety four four months after the show air. 'cause we started the whole putting together and ninety three. It took us a year to put together that first pilot piece of Shit. I've known you forever feels like but I'm going to introduce you to people who don't know you where you from. I'm from Newark. Ohio or is that that is central. Ohio's it's the county seat of Licking County Licking County Licking County just right next to Franklin county where Columbus the capital is. What do you tell people? Your career has been over the past fighter. Yeah where do I normally say? Rider I because every time I would say I'm the voice of black people would be like. Why is that this is? This is true like anytime anybody would go out of cartoon network and go in a bar go out in public and if they were wearing some. Brac PARAPHERNALIA EVERYBODY. Oh cool cool and anytime I would go out would be. Who's WHO's that on your chest. Someone say that Barack arguably more popular than anybody else in the network at the time he might have been you look at the network now and you think about what. It was like there at the beginning. You're at the at the beginning I was. I was there for twenty three years. Wow who hired you? I met with Laszlo and a guy named Dick Connell who is also in programming and both Lonzo in Dick. We're like Hey. Betty needed to see this guy. So they took me up to Betty cones office and had me talk to her and What were you doing in Atlanta? I was working at CNN. Oh I don't want to work in broadcasting so he came to CNN to be an editor on editor. Because that's what I studied in college. They studied television in college. But we learned a lot about the technical side. I also did like plays and stuff so I was on the performing side too but Yeah I would I would I started as a VJ which is video journalists. They call it and what you would do is cute talent to the camera and rip scripts and separate the scripts and gives the scripts to the the the anchor that would treat you like shit who call them out not all of them whose name waters waters was the where he was. Here's the guy with the white hair kind of like cutbacks. Yeah and he would use an entire can of of hairspray every commercial break Lou Lou. Waters Illu if you're listening if you're listening to attack US probably dead so you wanted to get out of there. Well Yeah but I I worked my way up to Satellite feeds where I would taken the The feeds from the different outside reporters and put them on tape. And then I was like the tape person so I would have to run like four different machines during during any news show that I was on kind of like a DJ. Yeah and they don't do that now because it's all computerized but the WHI. How'd you get the cartoon I saw on the Company Bulletin Board? Well I. I saw news that Ted had had bought the Hanna Barbera Library. So I know it. He's going to do with that. And I just saw the job listings at CNN said cartoon network entry programming. What does that mean to be an entry program? It was like that's kind of a ground floor job you just taking cartoons scheduling them for air. So you went and met Laszlo met with Lonzo. Do you remember what that was like? Yeah he was nice then he he had just come from. Tbs and before that he was he worked in the mailroom so so we were all kind of humble little tiny employees in the tiny Turner Broadcasting System. That was back in the day where it felt like a family organization because basically the ladder was me. Laszlo Betty Ted. So you're always like four people away from Ted. Wow The ted come by you. Ever see him now. I only saw him at CNN interviewing he was getting interviewed by Maria Shriver so lasso hires you sit near him. What are you guys? Do this program cartoon in. That's basically. Oh Yeah we program cartoons. We would come up like about a few months into it. We started coming up with stunts because they wanted to focus on a different character each month so I think the the the month before space goes I think was Morocco mall from Secret Squirrel and then So we had planned a little secret squirrel marathon around that and then and the month of June of ninety three was space ghost month and so we were just sitting around coming up with ideas for a marathon and crap like that and thing is khaki that we're coming up with names. She came up with space. Ghost coast to coast. And I guess Lonzo kind of had this idea of Basically had doing talk show we. I being the editor that I was Took US base goes cartoon recorded Denzel WASHINGTON OFF OF A CNN entertainment. Show and kind of through it all together in the editing booth and that's how the pilot came to be so you're a program guy and you moved up presumably in the ranks. So how that works I was. There's no like level of programming but Lonzo thing about Lonzo. Is that when we started? You know we had such low salaries because CNN just had really low salaries. But I have two jobs when I worked at CNN. Two jobs ass Shannon. No I had a CNN job. And then I worked at Bennigan's server. Yeah you remember how much you made at CNN. Fifteen fifteen an hour. Fifteen thousand dollars Shit. You have me beat man. I was a I was making five. Wow then I went to cartoon network and they said eighteen fifty and eighteen five eighteen thousand five hundred hundred house like wow can eat another meal with then then Lonzo. I don't know how he justified it. Or anything would give Khaki and I like seventy five percent raises or whatever back then and it happened twice and then I think he couldn't do it anymore. So space goes comes along and does your programming job go away. I didn't stop programming. Until Warner Brothers. Order twenty six episodes of space girls. That would happen. Yeah I I was working on space ghost until maybe episode Tan A- and then I was just kind of getting tired of the BS and Decided I wanted to just cool it for a while? It was the BS. I'm sure people look back on what what could be that way from a show it was. I can describe what it was like. During the Warner Brothers twenty four season because it just felt like you were locked in a room and yelled at every day. But I don't know I think I got tired of. It seemed like at the time that the loudest person in the room. We'd get their ideas put on paper and I just couldn't yell anymore. Who was there it was it was a Khaki Matt Moliro Lonzo and.

"Degree twist here <hes> <hes> voiceover star eric boese was talking on a video recently about replicating and paying homage to the legendary voices of the banana splits. I don't know if you've ever seen that original. Show i have although the only banana splits thing recently. I've seen is the new horror movie yeah. They basically do like a five nine hundred fridays with it. Yeah cool idea a weird way to go with it. Why not yeah i was like interested to begin with and then i saw that it was like a horror movie and i'm like no no why it's going. That's a cool genre twist to it. Yeah i don't know but it's now available on digital so who come into blue rain d._v._d. Like it's it's it's a direct to series which you know whatever you know they're trying kind of refresh the warner brothers hanna barbera library with new versions of things because why not i mean it's a cool idea. <hes> it just you have to have the right person behind the camera because direct video horror or horror is a wonderful genre unto itself and if you get the right people writing directing and producing it you can have some really cool movies. They're like fantastic b-movie level stuff. I mean it doesn't have to be like wes craven or tobe hooper levels of masterpiece it's hor but it can be be level. Charles band full moon entertainment levels of goofiness and i think the billion this movie had the potential to do that. It's got some cool kills in it but that's pretty much about it. The five nights at freddy's if they screw grew that up there will be blood see i've never cared for that whole like genre like and then the people that are like doing the uh oh man. I'm scared seeing don't get how they screwed up. Slender man so bad it had such a cool potential and backstory and lord right behind it but the movie saw x. I've reviewed at i guess a couple of years ago now or last year anyway <hes> and it was just so paint by numbers that it was just it was boring and you look at the rise of of horror movies being more popular now especially with the conjuring universe with like conjuring one to annabel and all those though there's been diminishing returns earns on that franchise do last movie that came out annabel comes home was okay but the one previous to that the curse of il il roar no which is about the mexican weeping lady was jump scare the movie and it sucks because whore i i always missed for now. It's supposed to be horror. Horror movies can be really like right now. There's that crawl movie which is under appreciated. It's about the the the alligator which is weird then. There's that forty seven meters dallas is like an underwater shark movie so okay and then next month it comes out in chapter..

"What time is that again because it's like them anymore? Yeah I have a hard time differentiating late for a while I was I was forgetting. What time was what in what area makes it difficult because <hes> I'm now an now in fully acclamated yeah <hes> but in a while and I like my sleep patterns were even out of whack yeah I as beautiful is Colorado is that fresh air almost killed me three years ago and it wasn't no? It wasn't even really fresh air again. It's more of the altitude than the actual fresh Air Yeltsin did zero zero now it it screwed me at like. This is stupid thing it shouldn't have but I in that you know in that past life that I used to lead where I went out to California that one time yeah it's like I had had a layover in Denver and I'm like okay sure fine. I'll be fine as soon as I get off the plane as soon as I walked five feet away from the gate unlike I gotta sit down if I don't sit down I'm GONNA fall down. I get so dizzy and I'm like it's just the airport. It's just Denver International Airport over the Denver airports call on. It's like damn will you. You are a mile higher yeah as opposed to like you know your Kentucky or Michigan or any of those so there is a big difference in altitude now. Don't get me wrong. It didn't didn't affect me iota at all. I was perfectly fine but right you know it's just I don't know just it's an adjustment yeah for sure and so <hes> just I really wasn't sure what to you expect and so <hes> so yeah so anyways we should probably get any of the episodes of ranting like crazy lunatics episode. That's what we do crazy. It is true speaking speaking of ranting <hes> something that caught my eye and it was after the fourth of July which is Funny Bank of Canada as Star Trek fans to stop drawing spock on their five dollar bills and and it's funny because people have been doing this for years but it's gotten more rampant because if you look at the whoever the prime minister this person is you know it's it's going around again because of the way the <hes> it features Canada's seventh prime minister late Sir Wilfrid Loria and it's a star Trek fans of taken to drying pointy ears in Vulcan Haircut on the bill transforming him into lieutenant spock because he does have that kind of look in the five dollar bill yeah and it says unfortunately the Bank of Canada doesn't find these changes to amusing the S. citizens to stop sparking the bills because even though it's not illegal they may interfere with the security features and releases its lifespan span yeah. That's crazy station that posted. It's like we say keeping track of course they do do yeah yes so <hes> and then you know you're GONNA go like I've been having fun with technology world right now just because a lot of goofy things are going on you know like Google trying to join dish to create a fourth mobile network God which who needs that exactly yeah it. It's funny now because I'll years ago Google changed changed their name to alphabet yeah like the the ideas for alphabet owned Google. It's like why don't you just say Google Really <hes> edition to launch their own wireless giant <hes> with the help of assets acquired from T. mobile which is now under pressure from the Department of Justice to aid such a project in order to get clearance for twenty six billion dollar merger sprint so in other words. They're being told that they need to help or they cannot merge sprint which it's funny because honestly T.. Mobile and sprint haven't been relevant in years like it's pretty much always been like an eighteen verizon game. It is so funny you mentioned this <unk> essentially the link link later to put in the show notes but <hes> I've mentioned this before on the show. I think I watched this guy on Youtube called companyman Mike <hes> and he basically does videos where he talks about decline on or why are they so popular all these like he's done videos on on all on the all these stores he's done videos on like red bull and coke and Pepsi like he's done like all that kind of stuff and various things need you know he does really good videos. He just released a second <hes> part of his A._T.. And T. series where he talks about the rise and fall and rise again of A._T.. And T. and how A._T.. And T. bought like almost bought T. mobile that never actually happened and how they now own Time Warner which includes H._B._O.. Is told this to a friend of mine and right. I actually sleep posted about the news about the talk about this in the midst of other Warner media APP my buddy my buddy on facebook like A._T.. And T. owns H._p.. <unk> Wa so basically Warner media is A._T.. And T. wonder media's subsidaries part of A._T.. And T. which means that they own H._B._O.. Warner media like Disney and everybody else has been doing the you know. All our APP is coming. Our APP is coming. Watch all our content on our APP 'cause Hulu and Netflix experiment or not just good enough <hes>. They're going to call it H._B._O.. Max So not going to do the plus thing like Disney in Hulu <unk> who else is doing the plus thing. I'm going to call H._B._O.. Maximum when my buddy saw this article is like A._T._M.'s H._B._O.. That just seems Kinda sick and wrong. I don't know it is crazy like I can't keep doing this amp thing like I have the D._C.. Universe at but I don't have a subscription. I may want to try one of these days but I I have no desire to I. Have the boomerang APP which is cartoons and cartoon network but it's Boomerang. It's all the classic old whatever shows things and they do put new stuff on there like right now. They've got the new scooby doing guests who which is basically an updated version of the new scooby we do movies from nineteen seventy two but that's like five bucks a month for all the content that boomerang has on there and so far as I can tell none of the content that I love watching on there has ever gone away. That's that's one of my biggest issues with who net flicks other streaming services that they only have certain things for certain amount of times Kennedy thing and it's like God then. Why am I subscribed to you if you don't have anything? I Really WanNa Watch yes he. I don't I honestly don't I don't care for any of the streaming services for the most part I mean I have net flakes which you know it's a promo code thing like it's it's honestly not something I would go out of my way to pay for just because I don't necessarily need it in majority of their content their fix <hes> originals <hes> are nothing care to watch not only are they. You know pretty much folgar and just I just don't WanNa watch it like there's many other things I could be staring at and that's not one of them and their content to be honest when I've watched some of it in the past not very good like I know that I know that people are like you have to rush news. Show it sure good. It's like it. Just you know it's like when you you look at the movie critic thing and they're like <hes> yeah this this show is is the greatest things and sliced bread and <hes> I'm giving it five out of five and then you look at the you know the audience score and it's like zero and then you look at you know the opposite to the audience is like this is great and then you look at the the critics and they're like this is taboo. It needs to be done in a fire you know and so you know it to me. I know it everybody has their own opinion of programming and then I guess like I'm an old curmudgeon. I just want like old school stuff. It's like not all that garbage. I'll I'll tell you this. The one Netflix originals will suggest to you is the Carmen Sandiego thing they put out that was really good that was very good actually <hes> so but yeah <hes> I will recommend <hes> the the Scooby Doo and guess who because like I said it's basically an updated version of the original new scooby movies. Were they have a special guest mystery guest on each week like the old show they had the three dude on there. They had Batman on there several times Batman and Robin. They had the Harlem globetrotters on the old show. I remember watching those when I was younger yep on this show so far and you can kinda tell but they keep it a mystery. You can cut like I know the very last step mode is going to be Batman because I can tell by the silhouette and I know for a fact one looks fairly certain ally thing yep it will be one of them will be ergul originally voiced by Jalil so Jalil is coming back <hes> ninety million denying that but Batman thank God this is going to be voiced by Kevin Conroy Yes oh but now I've been enjoying them so far. They've had Chris Paul the Funky phantoms and Sykes Wanda Sykes some oddities one does get him while the the Wanda Sykes episode that actually just aired as we're recording this us it was also kind of a mcgilla gorilla crossover where Mr Peebles went bad and it was a little it was really afraid. It was very very they're gonNA play with the Hanna Barbera Library. They don't care well. Yeah Yeah Okay. I got to do something with the Hanna Barbera Library and I know I know a lot of people are complaining. That scooby is the only franchise that they really put anything into but <hes> the one thing as much as I love him I absolutely do it's so weird to me in this show when Frank Welker actually talks more as scooby than scooby ever talked before frank actually has full lines in what else can be yeah. It's there's like there's always a groupie dooby Doo yeah he yeah he does do that but like but he doesn't that boys no he does it in like he does it in the scooby voice healing again. He has his own scooby voice but yeah go chase the cat yeah but it's there are longer sentences that he says I can hear more of frank than I can hear scooby. I like it doesn't sound like Fred coming out of Scooby Scooby's voice. It's Franks version of Scooby's voice <hes> but it's more of frank's voice than the actual character. If that makes any sense yet it's freaking me out. It's a a little weird because like yes scooby has always talked. He's a talking dog but he's never talked to the point where he needs to have like a Johnny Carson Monologue and shaggy's just his Ed McMahon. I mean it's never been that way. I don't know like you said earlier. We're old curmudgeon. We like things the way I don't dislike the show just because of that. I don't dislike show. I think the show is cool. That's just one aspect of the show that just kinda threw me for a loop. That scooby is talking more than he normally would yeah so. I don't know it's just it's it's crazy. I I don't know <hes> yeah <hes> so yeah this is this is a little bit funny thing <hes>. I don't know if you saw the news about the Disney world thing or Disneyland thing about near Stars Land. I saw something something about it but I don't remember anyways the the the only thing that that matters that whole story is the fact that it's not doing very well and it's people are actually actually <hes>. Is there like a some article I read the other day about it. Disney was saying that they didn't understand why it wasn't full and I'm sitting here going well. The fact that you doubled your mission pricing just for that park wonder why people can't afford to go for one late to like. I honestly don't care to go to those parks anymore. You know if you asked me league probably five years ago I would have been probably Gung Ho for but like nowadays. I'm Kinda like I'm good <hes> it's it's not something I just have to see but yet Disney in a effort <hes> it says that they're you know they announced the <hes> another ride you know for Second Star Wars Ride Risa the resistance and it'll open <hes> in both California and Florida but I think they're going to kind of heal themselves in some point because their pricing is so exorbitantly high. We all remember space balls right yeah. Yeah we all remember in love. The film's Baseball's moistened Izing Chin dicing much Disney is going to merchandise is their butts off with the Star Wars thing with the marvel thing with everything that they've bought because they need to make all that money back like they spent what they spend on star wars four billion dollars or whatever it was it was something like that something something like that. Would they spend on Marvel Lake whatever the point is is. They're gonNA make their money. They're gonNA make their money because that's where they're gonNA make it back is in the admission prices to the parks and and all of that <hes> our good buddy optima <unk> after bottom actually works at Disneyland <hes> so yeah doesn't anymore. He does every now and then but I'll tell you bud the youtube. Pay Bubble has burst. It's not what it used to be. I haven't paid attention so so long it doesn't late I was Kinda surprised that it took this long to be honest but so the hand go get a real job yeah. It's it's it's burst over the last couple of years. Actually it's not just recently but <hes> it's one of those things where I probably why the a lot of the youtubers neighbors that are huge handed diversify and like write books and create <hes> you know films or their production companies or other projects because if they didn't they were GONNA lose. There's a as much as I love this show. I I know some people don't there's a johnny test episode called Snoop Tube. It's basically making fun of becoming the Big Youtube Star thing it's absolutely hilarious show and it just goes to show you health..

I use the older side effects quite a bit still the hanna-barbera library that one brothers library. It's still kind of go to for certain gags and certain shows that's Heather Olsen an EMMY nominated sound designer for enemy Shen. She works. At advantage audio I'm working on star versus the forces of evil. Disney XT. Trolls the beat goes on the part. And spirit writing free for Netflix. You'll say item. I worked on a fairly odd. Parents. South puppy. Benson is a beef. The nanna. Cricket for Nickelodeon. Also worked on the adventures of pushing boots for net flicks. Are you? Gravity falls for the XP rest assured. There's a perfectly logical explanation and the boondocks for Sony. Joe Heather is an expert in modern cartoon sound design cartoons down affects or different from live action sound effects because we'd live action you start with production sound you're recording a picture and the recording the audio at the same time wherever the actors are with their on a street. You have cars going by. It wasn't a cartoon. If you're doing a street scene. All I get is dialogue. It's just the actors who recorded and I get to start with a blank slate. I don't have to try to hide production backgrounds. I get to get the dialogue, and I get to create a world around it. It's kind of the best thing. And the worst thing at the same time to work on a cartoon because you're not trying to hide anything. But you have nothing to start with showing your head. You have to think what would the satellite much like marks time at Hanna Barbera Heather gets a fully animated show often had sound effects from a ready made library of sounds. This includes many from the Hanna Barbera and Warner Brothers libraries here are some of her favorites. It's called the two thunk sound effects. I think everybody knows what the sounds like maybe not what it's called. But it's that sound like when a character get your head stuck in a jar. You hear that? Love that old sound just so clearly conveys my head is stuck in this jar is not coming out again. And I also love all the old running sounds. And I'm using this phone blink all the time. Most sounds. I have just persisted in everybody's mind every show because that's language that we've started to understand someone blinks you kind of expect to hear that xylophone at this point. And of course, Heather uses the falling whistle. If they can our son of excellent, it's called bomb drop, but it's the same thing. I mean, that's another piece of the language that everybody knows. Since some of the show, she works on or more realistic. Heather wants us to hear the sounds of the characters moving around and interacting with their world. Kind of like a live action movie, the fully department really brings a show to life. They record footsteps. Things characters touch which we call props. They do more of the smaller sounds, and it's great to have fully doing that instead of a library because then you're not hearing the same footsteps over and over they really make it sound more real.

"Nineteen eighty eight and the simpsons was nineteen eighty nine so those moments that linda's talking about we're just a few years before cartoon network was founded i asked my glasgow who's the executive vice president of adult swim about how cartoon network got it start in it's a story that has such a simple but inciteful beginning it was kinda crazy because at that time scott sassa was the entertainment president and he came to mall zona friday afternoon soon and he said hey i've got three animation inventories i want you to look at hannabarbera carry tunes and whatever casper the ghosts harvey tunes or whatever so i took those home and very quickly it was evident all you could make a big network would just the hanna barbera carry tunes is too redundant it's just kind of the same thing over and over again so i came back on that monday and i said look hannabarbera would form the basis of network right out of the gate and so that's a wedding went after and then the following weekend i was told well what would schedule look like and it was cool i mean because hannabarbera did all of those early cartoons yogi bear and huckleberry hound huckleberry was one of my favorites because he was a southern dog and i could relate on nap bush a guy i'll get you just take it easy now hawking going to home known turn loose katie he was also blue and that was cool to me and then it had all that action programming space goes and the bird man's and all that so you could see day part coming out of this inventory and i was actually working at tbs another person worked with at connell was tnt so it was a cool thing in that had brought these people from different parts of the company to kind of collaborate on cartoon network which is how you'd make a cartoon if you're just kind of sitting around jamming with somebody so ted in his genius always kept the vet small initially any new if you use that person from there and that person from there it could get a dump for free initially and then if a little like a business faded that's what hap historian eddy von mueller pointed to that moment that acquisition of the hanna barbera library as key in the americ animation renaissance no it's funny to me what's wrong to me holly is that.
