This is a chill factor moment. No coming to one thing. I believe about becoming successfully. Is that if you're good at something and if you are genuinely ready to share that knowledge with the world you will become massively successful. This era where information is at everybody's fingertips yet it is misinformation and lies which is reading fast. We need more knowledge angeles to spread through knowledge across the world. Even if you study history you can find that this is true. Ancient civilizations flourished when their knowledge evangelizing this authority like mesopotamia civilization or roman civilisational vedic india or this civilization flourished when their culture of sharing knowledge but unfortunately obstructionism started creeping into the society. When Currencies Fail: Bitcoin Google Searches in Turkey Rise 400% as Lira Crashes

"Let's move to our main discussion and there are really two parts of the story that we're going to cover. The first is the devastating crash of the turkish lira. The second is the response of people in that country who found their money worth dramatically less than it was just a few days before first of all what happened between sunday evening and monday. The turkish lira fell as much as seventeen percent against the dollar ultimately landing around ten percent down. Turkish stocks also crashed the benchmark borsa. Istanbul one hundred stock index was down as much as nine point four percent which is the biggest sell-off since june. Two thousand thirteen. The nasdaq listed shares. Msci turkey efl seventeen point five percent pre market in the us. The cause of all this on early saturday morning. Turkish president aragon unexpectedly fired nasi ball. though central. Bank governor who had been appointed in november at the center of their disagreement was how to approach inflation. So let's step back and actually look at the scenario inherited oddball. He was the third central bank governor in two years in november the year that he came to power the annual inflation rate was fourteen point zero three percent. According to the turkish statistical institute by december it was up to fourteen point six percent now these are just official numbers and some argue that it's actually much higher on november twelfth twenty. Twenty johns hopkins. Economists hanky tweeted everyday. I accurately measure inflation in turkey today. Measure it at thirty five point six one percent this year as opposed to the official number of eleven point eight nine percent after that fourteen point six percent number came out in december. He said that it was actually twenty. Five point eight five percent per year even holding that aside if you just take the official number nearly fifteen percent inflation a year a staggering that means a having of your purchasing power every year and this has been going on for a long time sue from three hours capital tweeted last night fun fact. The reason turkish lira is t. r. l. is because they've already redenominated before due to massive hyperinflation. Let's add a little more color than about the previous year and a half. The central bank had been keeping interest rates low or at least below consumer inflation. And as we've discussed before on this show. Negative real rates mean investors are discouraged from holding that sovereign debt as well as from holding lira or lira-denominated assets. These have been the policies for eighteen months or more and by fall. The currency was at all time. Lows added to. This fire was the way the turkish central bank had been trying to prop up the lira. Selling more than one hundred billion dollars in us foreign reserves in order to keep the lira from completely cratering in the process this destroyed and depleted their foreign exchange reserves and lead them to actually owing more dollars to turkish banks than the central bank actually had determined. Opposition leaders ask for judicial probe into the official reserves as of november. The country looked to be heading to a full on balance of payments crisis. And on top of this there have been major questions around the independence of the central bank from president. Aragon aragon infrequently given the central bank direct monetary policy instructions had dismissed two governors in the previous sixteen months effectively. When we really take a step back. Turkey has been on the see-saw between currency crisis and inflation. On the one hand and massive austerity and growth slowing interest rate hikes. On the other a currency crisis twenty eighteen led to increase interest rates. And by summer of the next year aragona points quote a friend to cut rates by mid-november when oddball came in it was a swing back to the interest rate hikes austerity side of the pendulum. The first act of akbal as he came in was to immediately raise the central banks one week repo rate which is an interbank lending rate from ten point. Two five percent to fifteen percent now. Interestingly this had started to work things were looking more positive from currency perspective at least in early. Twenty twenty one. Daniel call tweeted this morning. The turkey central bank helped make lira one of the best currencies versus the us d- in twenty twenty one curbing money supply growth via rate hikes helping reduce inflation. The turkish lira was up three point zero seven percent from december thirty first twenty twenty two march nineteenth. Twenty twenty one. It had been down twenty percent the year before it also saw something like fourteen to twenty billion of foreign fund inflows into turkish assets over that same period which reversed years of the opposite direction. Basically the interest rate hikes austerity were performing well in the context of global currency markets. But ogbah clearly didn't believe inflation was getting under control to the degree that he wanted to. He raised rates again to seventeen percent and then finally on the thursday before his dismissal raise them much more than expected to full. Nineteen percent and so the pendulum is swinging back again from interest rate hikes and toward at least in the minds of investors runaway inflation. The newly appointed governor saheb cops. Yo glue said that beating. Inflation is the bank's main objective but also said that they're committed to lowering borrowing costs and bolstering growth. Money managers. basically think he's going to be forced to lower interest rates and accept currency depreciation and indeed the other place. This is showing up is in the cost of insuring. Turkey's government debt against default the price of which rose more than fifty percent over the weekend. What's more this move. And the switch. From ball to cops iaglu super reinforces the narrative that central banks lack independence from erdogan. As well casio glue is a party. Loyalist bloomberg's chief emerging markets. Economists said quote the hit to the central bank's credibility and independence can't be overstated to gone has battered the institutions with interventions that have repeatedly financial markets. Were willing to give ball a chance. His successor will find it hard to build that trust again. So let's talk now about the other dimension to this that you might have caught if you were on twitter. Google searches for the term bitcoin in turkey more than quadrupled over the weekend after akbal sacking wise. That happening while one part of it may be the idea that bitcoin provides in inflation hedge and just a different currency to get away from lira volatility. Which by the way all it using bitcoin to get away from volatility where they don't tell you when they're trying to critique bitcoin is that people can stomach more volatility if there's some possibility that those seventeen percents swings or also to the upside as well but the other part of it is that as i mentioned the new governor has said that they are committed to fighting inflation but doesn't want interest rates to be the tool because they messed with growth. What are there other tools then. Bing bing bing capital controls restricting the flows of capital out of lira and lira-denominated assets so one question might be alongside. Google searches is are we. Seeing an increase in exchange activity owner goes pack. A consultant at the bbc turk pro exchange said that there was a spike in volume and that it was four both usd t tether as an alternative to us dollars and bitcoin on btc turk the bitcoin turkish lira pair has the highest volume with the tether turkish lira pair being the second highest now. This situation is going to evolve a lot. And i think on the one hand you have to just heartbroken. For the turkish people who are stuck between the whims and machinations of politicians and global economic flows that they have no control over when it comes to how much this new set of crypto and digital assets can actually help them escape from those pains. I've said numerous times. One of them remarkable things about this moment isn't that bitcoin and digital assets are going to save everyone from the follies of local currency regimes. That's just not realistic yet. What's remarkable is that for the first time ever the entire span of human history. There is a convenient easy permission. 'less ramp from those regimes for those people. Who have the technical know how to do it. The number of people who have that know how is an ever expanding group and that means that bitcoin and digital assets at an x factor to every single currency crisis. From here on

NASA spacecraft sent asteroid rubble flying in sample grab

"A certain. About Nasr's latest mission. Remember the old barnstorming air shows you might see someone hanging on a rope ladder dangling from a biplane. Then he swoops down past the audience and grabs a handkerchief. On Tuesday night NASA essentially performed the Hanky grab on the far side of our solar system two hundred million miles away. For the first time, NASA sent a spacecraft to snatch soil samples from an asteroid moving at sixty three thousand miles per hour. Asteroids are geological time capsules floating in space. Or as Nastase tone acerbic can put it. The rebel scoop from Benue could be a kind of cosmic Rosetta stone. The tells the history of our earth and solar system during the last billions of years. At the very least this mission is a triumph of imagination and technological prowess and Patients. The Oh Cyrus. REX, spacecraft left Earth four years ago in orbit, the asteroid Ben who for two years collecting photos and data yesterday the craft touchdown for a few seconds and snatched up as much as four point, four pounds, primordial rocks, and dust in about a week. NASA should know the spacecraft collected enough rubble or if it needs to make another attempt, then the spacecraft will back to Earth with its Rosetta rocks. That journey will take about two more years. But. Some things like a deeper understanding of the origins. Our solar system. Are Worth waiting for.

"I up I know what you're thinking. You hear that chorus. Somebody wrote that yeah. But that's not fair. In fact, it took two people to write this one Hanky Panky was written by the songwriting dual of Ellie Greenwich and Jeff Barry who we last saw in episode one fourteen just a few weeks ago when we looked at the song leader of the pack but in this case, Greenwich and Barry recorded themselves as the raindrops back in one, thousand, nine, hundred, sixty, three. Journal It and Burn It

"So let me get back to that question that thing. Yeah I was talking about at the beginning of the program. Okay that thing about having something on your mind it could be just about anything it stuck in your crawl. That's what my grandma used to say from Jersey shore Pennsylvania stuck in your crawl. Actually say it sounds like you're getting close close to having something stuck in your crawl them's old fashioned words but you get them right. Maybe made some some millennials Hanky man. GimMe a dictionary. Get a dictionary on that phone. Let me look at a printing ear ear and stuck in your crawl. What heck sent me some bothering you right happens? Everybody's GonNa Happen every single day. There's probably not a moment of the day that something doesn't cross your path did bother you a little bit and you can. You can let it bother you and likely it's going to me and I'm I'm not a guy it's gonNa tell you that it's not going to bother you a little bit in fact you don't you you don't really know if it's bothering the UN told us bothering you then it's kind of too late right. I mean how can you stop it from bothering you. That's called not carrying. I want you to care. Oh serious. Dose of Scott. Logic here so stuff's going to bother you. We just can't get away from that so we understand is going to bother you understand. It's GonNa take some kind of action to get through it now. Life is very empowering you get back in control and I'm not saying you're not out of control the raise your hand if you are. Raise your hand. If you've ever been out of control. Raise your hand. If you think maybe this weekend you might be out of control for at least a few minutes and nobody has a camera. Hopefully I don't know. Do you need to forgive somebody from your past. How about the time you stuck your foot in your mouth times? A thousand if you're me finding a way to eliminate negative thoughts. That's it's difficult sometimes. If you think positive or at least do positive stuff you find. Negative can't get its way. And but it's sneaky little bugger. It is your already noticed. How sneaky it is? It's the devil's work. It is our I know. I don't know the devil but it seems like it would be sneaky. Sneaky sneaky those negative thoughts they just come right in. When you expect? You'll be a positive conversation. Somebody says something and also having. Oh that's life life that's people just happens. It's never going to have to find a way to deal with it right so simple way. A tried tried and true version. This has happened years and years. And you're probably way before any of US knew anything we weren't even here you probably tens of thousands of years ago probably the minute that somebody probably commit fire was invented. It's probably GONNA happen. Somebody said hey fire great let me let me do what Scott's GonNa talk about because I've been waiting for fire so I could do it journal July to write things down. Have you heard that you probably ought to be writing things down. The other day was talking to a client and she had a few things on her mind. Some things you're dealing dealing with the go back about thirty years now and to me. That boggles my mind. I really thirty years can take care of that real fast so what you do. Is You Journal it and you burn it now. Sometimes on New Year's Eve you'll find people. They burning parties right. Where you kind of take what didn't work out the past year? You kinda ride it in your throat. The firing say something. You have a drink and who. Hey it worked so matter what and really I know some people just got that so subtle that so simple yeah. It's been a long time. There is something about. Here's why I think personally about us. If you take a scribble your thoughts on a piece of paper and it could be just a piece of paper you had to get fancy. Just get posted on. I don't care what you don't it doesn't matter now the more you you do the more you brain dump the more you're free right the more you get stuff out here the more you just dump it. Fill a whole journal mole skin. I don't care what it is. Don't put on your computer though because they don't want your brand new your computer. That wouldn't be good if you do that. Print burn that okay but scribble scribble scribble Philadelphia. The more you do this the deeper you get the more layers you kinda pill back from an onion essay and stuff kind of comes out and that's what you want to come out. You don't want to hold back. Don't hold back the stuff that's bothering you. Don't people do that. I'm telling you they do Scott. This has bothered me okay. Write it down on Journal. Great let me read it. They give it to me. I said well where to go. Well I just didn't feel I didn't know put on the paper. Get rid of it if you won't if you won't talk about talk about it okay. Okay so scripture thoughts on a piece of paper and get a creole or a crown or a piece of chalk. I don't care what it is. Fill in. A Tire Journal doesn't matter what that is. It's up to you but getting your thoughts on the piece of maybe you know what it does limited. What will interruption go deep here has got some amateurs of the audience but the truth is this is the truth as I say you become what you think about right? Whatever thoughts on your mind? They're just kind of floating around a very powerful form of energy because associates can be created and become something. What happened in? Would you write those thoughts on a piece of paper. What are you doing your manifest and you make it something real few minutes ago? It didn't feel real was just thought it was driving me crazy but the minute you wrote it down it became real. Didn't it right skied. It's on a piece of paper. There's some pretty pricey pieces of apron this plan. I wouldn't you agree. Let's think about when you get out of your head and we take the time to write it down you've made a real and if you really dig in its really real. Some people write novels based on that stuff. But you're not going to do that because we need to get rid of its bad stuff so it becomes real now. What can you do? If it's real. We can deal with it right. That's her step. Two comes in so simple so easy I want you to burn it into oblivion batch of fire light a bonfire use the backyard barbecue. Get the blow torch out. Hey that's a good idea. The blowtorch out of the garage into Abbey Refund. Kids if you're listening to me ask your Mama diverse okay. There are other ways to do in fact. You shouldn't have fired at all no and no. You can't do it on your iphone or your ipad and thanks computer. Can't do it scribble down figuring all the stuff you just got to get rid of it and it's burn it. It can be simple as just kind of go out and drive. Dry Wayne is lighting in watching afloat. Obey have a hose handy if it's dry. Are you three or fireplace. You Bernard on your stove your I don't care what you do. You should common sense. Okay okay I know it sounds so so so so so simple and we'll fix everything right away not really but the mere fact that you have taken everything inside of your head and you moved it out of your head Ed. You've made it real on the piece of paper. Just that alone is going to make you feel better. It's going to give you some control. It's going to free up space inside your brain for happiness. Okay and then when you burn. It isn't GonNa make you feel perfect today. None an really but a little bit better but if you did that a couple more times and you got a little bit better every single day the copy simple guy but a little bit better. Every single day as the old inch by Inches essential thing that becomes a lot. Better if you give at a time so you don't get to thirty four million downloads without. Let me talk like that on. It's an amazing skill set but somehow it works but I do promise you. It's very very simple. Promise I can make this promise. I've seen it a thousand times. I'll see thousand more as long as I live. It's going to be true. True you to the simple release. The waiting feel just a little bit. It's going to set you free just a little bit. I enjoy life. I'm just a little bit more every single day. You're gonNA feel control and empowered in life is going to change for you

Carlos Beltran Out as Mets Manager After Astros' Cheating Scandal

"We got the news about one o'clock today that yet. Another person untied to the Houston Astros. Cheating scandal has lost his job. Carlos Beltran recently hired by the mets to be there next managers out of his job before even having having a meeting in spring training. That's because he was named in. The Commissioner's report released the other day for his role in the Astros signed stealing scandal of two thousand seventeen eighteen Beltran and the mets both indicated. Today that this was a mutual decision but I suspect that a week or two weeks ago even those with knowledge of the science dealing details from two thousand in seventeen believed that Houston. GM Jeff Luneau Astros Manager Aj. Hinch Red Sox manager Alex Cora now Carlos Beltran would still have have their jobs and they're all out and that's where we are probably Vera covers baseball for ESPN. She knows. Carlos Beltran now score very well Marley. How you doing? It's been a crazy week. I think crazy is a very good adjective buster special like no that totally can managers. Were highly touted. I don't have a job today. Unbelievable let's let's start with Carlos Beltran. That is the the most recent news. I'm going to also ask you about Alex. Corsie is we go forward but but I about Carlos. I thought that when the mets didn't put out a statement immediately on Monday evening after the Commissioner's report came out out the fact that the mets didn't come out right away and have a statement from Jeff Wilpon from Brody Bandwagon. And saying this is our guy. Carlos Beltran is our manager edger. And that's what we're going to do moving forward because what was in the report involved the Houston Astros in two thousand seventeen. The commissioners made it clear that Carlos this is not going to be disciplined for his role in that because he's the player at that time but the fact that they didn't put out that statement on Monday and then dragged out into Tuesday day and then Wednesday. You could see that the mets they were weighing their options and just as someone who covered the mets back in one thousand nine hundred seven having worked in New York market for a long. I've never seen an organization that is more affected by public opinion than the mets. And I thought Yep that he at some point. They're going to let him go. What what did you think absolutely couldn't agree more with what you said? And not only that the fact that you know one of the reasons why they hired Beltran was because it was excellent in publicity. Ns S you. And I know spending so much time covering baseball in New York. The mets have failed many times on the PR department. And this would hiring hiring Carlos Beltran. They bought themselves all this goodwill right the return of the prodigal son with everything that had happened when he had left the comments of the Wilpon when he used to be a you know. Oh a mets player. Everything gets kind of water under the bridge. There's just you know one of the most impressive press conferences that I have attended you know at city field so it was just as big. Pr Moment and then all of a sudden I agree with you. They got swayed by public opinion. And one of the things that Carlos Beltran and as you mentioned before which is important you state. The aren't family our friends of mine. So my activity here Sometimes can be a little bit swayed but the point is that can handle the media. He's been you know he was a player for twenty a years worked on a capacity assistant with the Yankees and so on and I feel that this was in my opinion. Definitely a wilpon decision muster. Oh No no question. The way this was described I think Carlos but at a statement they talked about a mutual decision. No way like this like Carlos I think absolutely was set on going forward but they say as all the conversation was taking place in New York to columnists were were taking aim at this and they are asking questions. Well what. What did the mets ask Carlos about? After the first athletic story came out about the signed stealing. And how would the mets feel about Carlos not having credibility with the media and it became a real hot topic on talk radio here and one stat ball started rolling downhill and then Aj hinch losses job and Jeff Luna lost his job and Alex. Cora lost his job. There was no way the mets leadership was going to stand in the way of that momentum and stand up and say in the past it was in the past which by the way is what Brody van wagon and said back in November. He kind of indicated like well. That's not really a mets problem. That's an astros throws problem. But their their their words their tone definitely changes week the only aspect that I can you know Ah have gone in this process. One of the things were Carlos may have had some input. Devil's advocate here. Is that one of the things that Carlos Beltran they'll turn and and you and I have covered a great deal of is the fact that he does not like off. The field distractions buster. And I think at that is the part or they'll go. You know what this is the right decision. He is one of those guys that likes to talk baseball. I remember what it was like the whole scandal with Iran in the Yankees Yankees Carlos Beltran was part of the Yankees Organization at the time as a player and he refused to engage in sort of those conversations so there is an aspect of how much he doesn't like the distraction and then that part certainly you know he could have had any input on but I I agree with you. This isn't you know the mets founded selves in an island. Having to make a decision and they got swayed by Jim Crane did and obviously you know what the Boston Red Sox decided to do. After the imposition of a penalty suspension to Alex Score. So let's breakdown go by the way. Yeah exactly breakout some other elements of this What do you think the mets miss out on? Not Having Carlos Beltran altron their manager. Carlos Beltran is an excellent leader. And I think that's one of those things that has been a little bit missing the New York Mets Organization. He drives arrives you. He's one of those guys that inspires others other players and he also galvanizes clubhouses right. He he was the player for the day when he was with the Yankees. Hanky along with Andrew Miller he always has always been so well spoken and he crosses that kind of you know barrier quote Unquote Latino players. And you know the players that are not Latino and I felt that he could galvanize that clubhouse very very well and I think that's the number one thing that the mets are going to miss out on and this is a man who obviously has left the game for a long time doesn't need the money this isn't right and it was honestly doing this job because he truly wanted to make an impact in organization that really has lost their way a little bit in the last couple of years so I think it's a huge loss. So they mess. We're GONNA do not have Carlos Beltran but I do understand the decision. In terms of the whole quote in quote distractions off the field now. I'm not as close to him as you are if I was I think and he asked me my advice in this situation. Now that he's lost the job of the mets would. I think I would tell them was Carlos you need to hold a press conference in New York have rent out a room at a hotel or restaurant invite all the reporters to come and basically say I'm here to answer all your questions about what went on with Houston with me back in two thousand seventeen eighteen. Because I think that's the only way he's going to be able to manage at some point down the road and all I heard for the last decade is this is someone who absolutely terrific manager in the future future. He has to be great at this job but I think that would allow him to and let's face he's never going to move past this. It's already cost him his job but at least to get past those questions would be to tell the writers. I'm here to answer every question you people have about what take place and I'll tell you exactly really what happened. What do you think about that? I don't know that I mean I. I would love for that to happen. Let's be very clear. I don't know that the benefit for for Carlos it's worth it If if one of the drugs and he said this in an introductory press conference specifically said I didn't want any job I don't need need a job. I wanted to stay in New York. Carl has very very young children. They're all right like very yes. Three kids are all very young during school in your this is where they reside the kids go to school will. So there's only two baseball jobs that he would apply for the New York Yankees and the New York mets and he's not gonna get either one of those jobs so I just don't think that at this point point it benefits the family anyway and I do think that Carlos will do what's best for his family especially having young children Buster and I know you know that you had young children at one time. It's the point that these kids have to see the paper tomorrow. They're going to be in school. They're old enough. You know and I feel like it would rehash a lot of topics. Is that right now. Maybe people are going to move on you know and and just gone from that now if he later on when the kids are a little bit older he wants to do something else. Maybe at that point but but at this point I just don't see the benefit.

Jony Ive leaving Apple after nearly 30 years to start new design firm

"Of astutely pointing out that apple no previous to a past couple of years never really made their designers knowingly never put the names out of their designers a but in in the new yorker profile think ben thompson wrote a piece about how in the new yorker profile they sort of seating you know some of these names of designers and when they made the announcement that johnny i've is leaving they did say that you know huge place by the specific designers although reporting to eighty an awkward in person well i wish in person i guess i'm johnny i've had multiple roles they said in you and we haven't even discussed the role he had in the building in their new orders now is the last big product right apple was the spaceship and so when you have somebody operating in those like multiple roles there's no title for that person their nose doing all these different things so you're not gonna replace them with one person either and so it kind of makes sense that this replacement or you know somebody official title is probably gonna fit in a bunch of different spots i'm not certain sort of surprised by that organizationally they'd have no you know executive bp of design anymore right people reporter tim cook it all falls under the chief operate operating officer jeff williams but a they did say that fit harbor design an industrial design in human interface face design these other suffered stuff will be two different leads you're gonna have a evans hanky vp of industrial design an allen die will be the vice president of human interface design so at least you're gonna have separate people on on the that people can point to is being responsible for these things and i'm sure they've been heavily involved you know for a long time and i'm sure that even as joining live is leaving even if he was not have any more involvement in apple which is not gonna be the case because apple is the first big customer for his new design firm but they have products in the works that he's had a hand in we won't see for years right handed batter i i can't imagine that apple would let him go without him having some huge sign and put on whatever they are glasses for example like if you're talking about design being important thing for something a product that a category that has not been proven yet to be consumer friendly hr would be chief among them unique kind of need the confidence of a johnny design you know the the lack of a better phrase v a the reality distortion field that he brings to it as well

Are time zones obsolete?

"Here's something that I learned recently in the air above us up at thirty five thousand feet. It is the same time everywhere, universal time, which is time at the Greenwich Meridian is used all around the planet earth, today by every single airline and air force in the world. This is dick Henry. He's an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University, and he said think about it. They're all these planes, flying all over the earth at hundreds of miles an hour, and you don't wanna get confused by time zones. When you're trying to keep them from crashing into each other dick has talked to his friend, Steve Hanky about this for years, seems an economist, a professor of applied economics at Johns Hopkins, and he says it is not just pilots who need universal time investors needed to you can trade. Twenty four hours, a day almost around the clock and gold currencies. Stocks and everything else under the sun. And those are all timestamped using universal time Hanky and Henry were telling me about all this because they have this little proposal. Yes, even I want to abolish the time zones. No more time zones. We want twenty four hour world time everybody on the same clock. You're, you're, you're fully serious about this. Like, is this a serious proposal? Oh my, of course, it's a serious proposal, if it's ten o'clock in New York, it is ten o'clock in Shanghai and Sydney and Nairobi it is ten o'clock everywhere. Hanky and Henry have also designed a whole new efficient. Standardized calendar the Hanky Henry permanent calendar whose Hanky Henry time and calendar. It's raked up with an extra week every five or six years, so that the calendar is. Standard year to year like January I is always a Monday. They say come on, we waste so much time. Readjusting calendar's year to year. It's unnecessary. What would happen if the Hanky Henry colander were adopted? Oh my goodness. There'd be a couple of years of bumps and grinds people read adjusted their schedules. But then we'd have at an absolute optimum, and it would never ever change for the rest of human history. This is very hard for me to imagine two guys changing the way time works for everybody forever.

The Age of Surveillance Capitalism

"What surveillance capitalists are competing on our the quality of their predictions. Yeah. Because that's what they're selling to their business customers it began with a Connie's of scale. We need a lot of data. We need to feed the machines. A lot of data in order to get really good predictions. Okay. So we're getting a lot of data over were pulling all the data that we can find an online in the online world, then it becomes wait. Wait a minute. Volume is essential. But we need more than volume. We also need variety we need scale, and we need scope and to get that scope to get that variety. The diversity of data. We need to get out of the online world we need to also embrace the offline world, we need a mobile situation. Here's your phone put in your pocket right now off you off you go into the city into the park into your home into your car wherever you are those become new sources of of supply chains for us. Okay. Now, we're competing in the mobile world and the discovery occurs. Hold on a second. You know, data. Scientists talk about the shift from monitoring and capturing data to actually aiding actually effecting the device or the person in a way that actuates behavior and through. Actuated behavior, you set that behavior on a specific course that gives you even better basis for prediction. Right. So so you see this is the input. This is what's happening behind the veil before you get to that killer recommendation wherever it is. So behind the veil what's happening is we're looking for ways to actually nudge, tune heard human behavior through these subliminal cues that operate in the online and increasingly in the real world. So that we can channel behavior toward a certain direction. And once we know you're you're moving in that direction. Then the predictions that we can make are going to be even more powerful one of the tests of this that became preps. Most interesting, and we'll be familiar to our listeners is the augmented reality game, Pokemon. Go. Oh, which I consider to be another super scale population scale, experimental laboratory in how you do what I've just described. But now not in the online world in the real world in the world. We call real. Because what Pokemon go what was actually doing was monetize ING based on its own behavioral futures markets where people would go, exactly. So there were you know, pizza joints restaurants. Mcdonald's franchises all kinds of services stablishment retail places that were paying Niantic labs, which was the Google spinoff. Yeah. That produced an incubated Pokemon go while still inside Google, led of course, by John Hanky who is behind street view and behind that but before that Google earth. So they're paying my Antic labs for footfall footfall in the real world is the precise analogy to click through in the online world, grocery literally foot, traffic and fall is your body is in my store and your foot is falling on my floor talk.

"So my question is what is the best thing to do is we'd better to roll it over Hanky retirement future? Or would it be better to take the lump sum pay the taxes and? The death that we have the inherited IRA does not have any penalties. But does have taxes as you pull it out? And you have a minimum a required minimum distribution. And it's called an RAM D that you have to begin pulling out a little bit every year, depending on your age. It's an MD calculation that used so you're gonna have some of it out to do that. In your case. What I would do is cash it in and pay the taxes MB outta debt. Okay. And I'm assuming that that would make him smile as long as he knew you weren't going to go back in debt, right, right? Because we wanted to make sure that nobody went to honor him because he was always very good with money. And you know, tried to you know, he formed were. What you could. "Not a big McCarthy guy. I'd kinda bothers me. You know, what I kind of agree with that statement? But this is really good. But I was like Jason Statham is really fun that. Yeah. He's great. Oh, I watched the Meg with Jason Statham. I don't know that was kind of Hanky one of the main characters is like Asian woman who really can't speak English. So like all her jokes were terrible. You know, like it was just I just wish they'd cast it better. That was my. Yeah. That makes sense going back to like airport. I obviously spent so much time to airport that was like thinking about it a lot and a lot of the had to do with taking craps. Okay. I don't know if this is ever happen to you. But like, you know, when you go into an airport, and you've got like the protective paper that you put on the toilet seat know? Yeah. Now every airport toilet has the automatic Flusher. And so I sorta got every single time I put it down. And then like. Come on. This happened to me every time, and I feel like the toilets is sitting there like. Dirty ass. You don't get a clean ass. That is insane. What is so true? Also like when you're in the air like airplane toilets. What's shotgun shell blast? When you flush. You know, why why don't we have to shoot my shit out of the plane mock seventeen? I don't know. Okay. So you know, like all the air on the plane is circulated rights like the air. You're breathing event. Above your seat is air coming from the freaking bathroom, like there's no way around that have gone to the bathroom, even if I'm just peeing I close the air vent because I'm so paranoid that like someone's going to smell like anything. That's in the bathroom and thinking it was me. I just don't understand that. It's so it scares me every time I do it to you know, I always quote this the seat and then flesh. Yeah. Just. And that noise you don't want to hear that noise on an airplane sounding blasts through the use a lot. Trying to sell that you're going to get sucked out within like, Lutely it terrified. That's why I always closed the seat fully and then flush because it scares you do. Yeah. Like with the whole down and then flash. All right. That's good. It's not as scary. Danny Green, Rockets And Golden State Warriors discussed on The Jump

"Suckle Spurs 'cause they host the rockets and the first part of our double header on ESPN tonight. And I really got to read you Gregg Popovich told MBA dot com about these three point explosion in the NBA over the past decade and mind, you they're playing the rockets tonight. Here's what pop said, quote, I hate it. But I always have I've hated the three for twenty years. Now, you look at a statute after a game in the first thing you look at is the threes if you made threes and the other team didn't win if you don't even look at rebounds or turnovers, you don't even care. That's how much impact the three point shot has. And how it's evidenced by how everyone plays since he's basically saying that all the final points of the game kind of fall by the wayside. If you can just bury the other team in threes degree. I do agree. I mean, I think that's been a huge advantage for the Golden State Warriors. Oh, that is three seasons is the fact that they've been able to shoot three ball better than any team in the league. And we've seen teams like Houston news emerged a little bit. And now, we go the Milwaukee Bucks who's taking the most attempt. So the three ball is the way that the game is going, and if anyone can speak on this coach pop can because I'm sure he's probably losing a little bit of his coaching field with guys shooting of all it's more of a mobile free flow game. Now, you know when I played in the Lee three point shot was important. But it wasn't that important in today's game. I you've got to get up almost five threes a quarter. I mean, or are you gonna find yourself behind your member of very hot night in San Antonio? When Danny green was raining in really high and raining in more three. Threes air conditioner was. This. I won a championship enlarge perfect 'cause they hit threes. I I would just say to pop maybe go the beer Beck. He's been he's been cranky. And he's been by the way, he's been cranking long before he saved through today back. Great thing we all do. But he also said that he doesn't think the game has lost its beauty and that same interview. I disagree. I think the game was beautiful. In fact, his mentor Hanky gin who was his coach at air force. I had a conversation with him a little while ago. And he said, you know, he he's the coaches a sixties. He goes game has never been more beautiful. So pop get a bottle of wine. Go see coach Egan. About the beauty of the game. It will be great for everybody. Well, I I agree with you on that point for sure I do I do understand though that there is room for the nuance of, hey, the bludgeoned the hammer of the three pointer one thing pop has been so great at over. The decades is finding all those little untucked corners of the game to get an advantage. And it's been fun to watch him do that. And those just aren't is available anymore when someone can come sweep you along with the three point shot. He's definitely lost. The Is it's. some of that when you have two hall of famers, David Robinson and follow with Tim Duncan? Those God made that three point line, very fruitful. That's what he is missing. So when when you don't have that that that magnet there the force that defense to droll in yet at three point shot does become a little bit more difficult. So he definitely don't have those big that same way short.

"Hanky-panky is a favourite of celebrities stylish and stylish women world wide. Welcome to the show. Gale in lead. Thank you. So what's your coming on? Thank you. Oh my gosh. This is just amazing. It's incredible forty one years ago. Hanky panky was started. How does it feel to say that? It's sort of unbelievable. We don't feel that old. I know isn't it that moment where you're like you say something like that? And you're like forty one years, that's. Wait what how could that be? So this this idea came from pudding hand embroider handkerchiefs together. I mean, how did you even think of that gal? Oh, I actually liked to recycle things. So while I was working for other manufacturers is specialized in knits at at that time. I was always I always had a boutique business where at home at night. This is my real laboratory for design I would make things and often out of other things like at that time beautiful handkerchiefs that inspired me their exquisite embroidery colorful embroidery. So they seem the whole idea about embroidery on underwears was very Victorian. So that's really what motivated me to make modern underwear out of it. And that little set came about around the same time if lead his birthday. Was happy recipient of that. Yeah. That was that was in June nineteen seventy seven. Gail gave me just you know, I'd always got design things from Gail as gifts. But this was something that really really caught my attention. I was so excited about it. And we started talking about how other women would probably love this stuff that looked like this, and it was possible to scale it up. That's amazing. So leader you got this gift. And you're like, we gotta do something with this. Yeah. Which, you know, I'm not sure exactly where that thought came from because it's not like I had been to business school. It's not like I was out of work. It's not like I knew anything about sales or retail or wholesale. But yeah, those did kinda come in. Dame? And I had I had been in my own business on the side for years. So it was natural to do something. I wouldn't have done it on my own, but with a partner, and once we had that name we just took off. 'cause that was that was inspired to know was a name that once leader went out with those little samples a little four piece set to the buyers a name that they didn't forget, and they found something that was different for their departments. And it was just took off from there. Yeah. There was a lot lot of interest. It was actually very say. It was easy to sell back. Their jobs. Saw the Forbes interview you guys did how you said it was easy back then. And but still it takes guts to get store. You know, go in there and have the meeting. What was that? Like, I mean, I it's not just one day. You decided you gotta gear up for that. Well, I on my kind of. Lunch. Our from the job that I had at the time. I was making phone calls to really the only retail outlets. I knew at the time department stores because of they they kind of they owned the retail space. That's where I shopped. I was called end. Also, you made these connections by two phone. There was no internet. No, Email, and it was complicated because in the intimate apparel space it I'm sure I didn't even use that terminology. There was so many different departments, you know, bras. And and of course, the tree undependable, and you know, all the stuff that I somehow I got to I r- who was proper person at each of the places that I called Gail had made samples for me to to take in. And that was a very different time. When buyers would welcome you end, see something new would sit down and write there or. Orders on the spot if they liked it. There was not one buyer who I saw in New York or California. I happened to have a trip plan to California and around the same time, and I took advantage of calling west coast based department stores, even the ones that don't even exist anymore like books and Robinson's..

"The pressure and everything that comes with pitching in new york why should i as he hanky fan why should the yankees as an organization believe that come big games september trying to win the division dare i say tober feel good about the idea of ryan this guy in a playoff for attention you cannot and that is why they will continue to scour the market a hap hamels whoever it may be it off we head to columbus ohio good pal mac is gonna wait us off here on a foul mac what an honor jj how you been man mackel is good brow it's good to hear your voice what's happening my friend hey man i got something to say about mets yankees but at the end of at the end of the call would you give me a thirty second take on this year okay what i call them about jj i listened to hundreds of dopey calls about a mets yankee trade which i never thought what happened okay because ticket sales page and just the fact that the mets never liked to see you know a former met sixty but the yankees but here here's why i think it makes sense okay nobody needs a top line starting pitcher then the yankees jj 'cause outside of jack of opinion isn't that stan yankees going no further the next year no disrespect it out there and see see without another flight pitcher nobody has more to trade than the yankees nobody needs more than the mets that's why i think in a crazy way it makes sex listen all of that is true except for the fact that you're dealing with the dynamic of the yankee met rivalry cross town what have you any ramifications of making that sort of move now here's where we do beg to differ the keys can win a world series with this rotation now they're gonna add somebody i don't know if it's going to be the pitcher the caliber of jacob degrom they're going to add a starting pitcher and with their lineup and their bullpen and the fact that you have a choice and severino tanaka who you believe in and was great in the postseason last year sabbatical who's a warrior who will get it into that bullpen and we'll do the job over five or so winnings i think you can be all right now mac it's going to be a tough tall order i understand that houston is very very good boston is very very good the yankees come october oh absolutely have their hands full but to say that this rotation cannot win a world series i don't believe that because i saw the kansas city royals in two thousand fifteen when the world series when they had edison volk as johnny cueto your donovan ventura and chris young and the yankee rotation blows that one out of the water jj for me on record for but the one thing you're forgetting about casey they were playing them that's okay well let's i know mac i know you know like the yankees even though the yankees did not make it to game seven of the world series they came into the following year and it had this team and the sense of unfinished business right you know the idea of being one win away from getting to the world series the royals will one win away from winning the world series so i do like that aspect for this yankee group that they have a lot of october pedigree now and that experience going into whatever it may be whether it's a division series it's hopefully not a wildcard game i mean you don't want to relive that experience but they do have that moving forward now you ran you wanted to go on something for about thirty seconds so i'm gonna let you do that so go ahead no no jj let's disagree on the mets on the yankees and other top line starter i'll call you back on that one i wanted to hear your quick check on the dolphins thanks for taking my call dolphins listen i like to make fitzpatrick i really do i like the.
