"Editing centric, don't look up from the editing God Hank corwin, like I loves a cut. Joe walker for dune, Pamela Martin, for king Richard, Peter sebastis for The Power of the Dog, and Myron kirstein and Andrew Weiss Blum for tick tick boom. Interesting set here, this is a category that is widely considered very indicative of the strength of a film if the film does not have a best film editing nomination. It's believed that it's going to be a tough road to best picture. You'll notice that there is no coda in this category. I find that fascinating. I don't have a super strong feel for this one, Joe, because king Richard won the ace Eddie award a few weeks ago and I didn't see that coming. And so now to The Power of the Dog is the ostensible best picture favorite does it have editing really its strength in its story? I think there's a strong case to make for it and I might make it right here, but I'm a little bit stumped on this one. What are you thinking? I think king Richard was an interesting win of these. I think when you think about dramatizing a game of tennis, which shouldn't be hard, you know, plenty of people tune in to watch high stakes tennis, but I think there's something to be said for that between sports and war movies. I feel like those two things tend to feel like flashy, interesting. I think tick tick boom. I mean, I don't think it's a FrontRunner, but I think editing wise tick to boom is actually pretty interesting. I think a power of the dog has some precursors in its favor, but again, I think dune deserves to run these craft categories. I think it deserves this Mad Max glory in that regard if it's not going to get best picture. So I will go with my heart and I'm saying dune to win and that dune should win. Do you mind if we just look at some previous best film editing winners? Yeah. Because this is a, it's an unusually important category, like I said. So the winner last year was Sound of Metal. The winner of the year before that was Ford.

"And tick tick boom. Now, obviously this boat's very well for Belfast, dune, king Richard, power of the dog, licorice pizza, don't look up, and probably tick tick boom all films that we think are likely to be nominated for best picture. It's crazy that liquor pizza is just a lock. That's nice, right? It is nice. It's in the mouth, you know? I know. I'm happy about that. Anything else jump out to you there besides the oddity of Cruella being recognized in comedy for editing. Maybe it was wonderfully edited. I'm not sure I really really like the one time I watched the edited. I think they had a complex execution in front of them, and you could make the case that they did well enough with it given the raw text of that original show that you're talking about that Larson wrote. So maybe they're recognizing that. Okay. Whatever. I don't know. I mean, don't look up as an interesting one because obviously Hank corwin is the editor there. And he's very widely celebrated by this group. But some people don't like the way that corwin and McKay cut those movies together. They think it's a little too aggressive and a little too obvious in the way that they're constantly positioning the flourishing images of nature. Two years ago. Certainly did. You know. So that's what I have to say. All right, we've looked at all of these nominations. What's going to happen? Give me the ten. Right now, oh, I didn't know that I was going to have to do this. Okay. Let's do it. Just bite down into it. You got this. Okay. I believe in you. Well, I'm gonna go off the PGA nominations and just think that, being the Ricardo's, yes, sorry. It's in. Sean, that's ten movies. I've told you every single guild is like, wow, finally, someone who understands my struggle against mccarthyism and the tabloids and also whatever. Do you relate to it on that level? You're struggling against mccarthyism in the tablets. Yes, exactly. How did you know? And also, I want to hang out with Javier Bardem, which same. Sure. I can buy that. Belfast? Yes. I think coat is in at this point. Okay..

"And it's also I noticed really how you've cut this movie feels different than how your other movies are cut. I know you've worked with Hank corwin for a long time and he's a master of a certain kind of a style. But even when you've cut the performances and the number of angles that you're shooting, your actors from, was there something different that you were trying to accomplish here with that sort of structure of the movie? From the beginning, I talked to Lina sandrin or director of photography about the fact that I wanted this one to be a little more traditional looking. A little more framed a little less handheld, I felt like we needed an artful colorful energy to it. I mean, you can't help but look at all those legendary movies from the 60s and 70s network and doctor strangelove ace in the hole was a big one even though it's black and white the way it was framed I really looked at. So there was a difference and then this movie is much more of a comedy than the last two, certainly the advice and big short definitely had plenty of comedic elements to it, but still this was this involved some cut patterns that were a little more traditional comedy. So Hank and I kind of would go back and forth with that. And I would say, Hank, I think this is a time you go with the comedy cut pattern. And then there were other times he would purposely break that pattern and I like that blend. It kept me off balance. I mean, the one move he does that I just love is he'll just cut off in the middle of a line. And just sort of say to the audience, you know where this was going, let's move on. And it's interesting because my daughter's pointed out, that's something people do on TikTok. That's actually a style that's sort of new on TikTok. And so the combination of sort of Hank corinne's incredibly original style with my experience with comedy, I think is what gives you that that rhythm and then of course the look as well. I'm going to ask you a slightly head of your question. But based on some of our conversations, I feel like I have a good sense of your view of the world in addition to how you speak publicly on certain issues. You're very direct in your beliefs. And yet, you and I both are tools of this massive media and entertainment system. We benefit from them in a lot of ways. And I'm curious how you sort of reconcile that with the fact that you clearly seem to be so so impassioned about the ideas to the point where it is completely infiltrated your art at this point in your life. And yet you've made a big movie with Netflix. You know, like there is some dissonance there. Do you not see it that way? You know, I look at it the other way. I look at it that it's incredible. I got to make this movie with Netflix. I look at it like this is it's a win. To be able to use these tools to get a movie like this out there or I find to be really exciting and I give Netflix credit..
