I's conferences over in the pitch is outside. Want to know? Alright, dumb in the opener. One for two with a run scored. Hampson. Terrific speed. Of course, Nunez holds that bat out in front of them. And now Readies himself one Oh delivery that one's hit up the middle. That's a base hit into center field around third and coming in is Garrett Hampson. Am Dom Nunez breaks the tie. It's 98 Rockies in the eighth Damn, Nunez breaks the tie, breaking his bat. He hit that right off the end of the bad chick could hear the sound. Good job by Jesse Thomas with our field microphones. You hit the ball right off the end of the bat like that. You usually crack it, and sometimes you just don't get enough pace on it. But with the shift on there was extra room over there on the left side, And as soon as contact was made, Garrett was off and running and scored. So the Rockies get the RB from Nunez and now, Connor Joe. Who has had.

"So joe is running now too i am. Yeah and i've always had i would. My goal is to run a marathon. And i've never been able to get beyond five k. Like i've just haven't practiced the right things or you know stress myself in the right ways to to be a good runner so she's been helping me out a ton with getting to be a runner like i want to be so i used to only five case myself and then i ran my first ten k. And than somebody wrote me into attend miler and then from the ten miler. I was like what's another three miles. I started running half marathons. And then i think there was probably about a handful of half marathons that i then thought to myself. Why not run the marathon. And i did i trained. I trained a lot and it does help having a group of people to talk with while you're running Because it's a long time to be out there. Are you an extrovert introvert. By the way. I would guess an extrovert. I feel like i'm more of an inch. Really which is which is interesting. Now if i if. I have a lot of hops. O.'neil extra more extroverted but i do i. Do i get intimidated in crowds. And i definitely can't talk in front of crowds. I can't is sounds like my voice starts to shake sound like i'm calling them all of my time avoiding people and that's the best from them but it's a detriment all right now. It's hard so this. When i first started hampson hops to it was like i had rachel. That that thomas that she's another real estate agent that started with me. I am so thankful for her. Because i wouldn't have been able to do it on my own. So having somebody there with me to how to make me step out and do what. My ideas for was was phenomenal. "Big hole open on the right side of the infield pitch. There's a shot toward left center field toward the gap that has really hit well chasing after it is Pilar. He won't catch up to it. It bounces up to the 3 99 shine. Racing around the third is Robertson. What a send him home and he will score all the way from first on a long double by Joey Barton. And the Giants have a to nothing lead. Gabbard 102 miles an hour off his bad it was great to see and there would be more to come for Joey Barton in this one. So the jacks have to nothing lead going to the sixth in the end, the sixth The Rockies gotta run against Drew Smyly, and it was the only run that Smiley would allow in five and a third innings. It was a walk to Pilar, who stole second. Story single into third and then he scored on a force out Ah, ground ball by Blackman. And that is how the Rockies got their first run. The Giantsbullpen took it from there. But in the seventh inning, there was more trouble. However, Garrett Hampson led off the inning against Harlan Garcia with a single. Now, Hampson is may be the fastest runner on the Rocky is one of the fastest Runners in the league, and he tried to stretch his single into a double, with the Giants infielder playing left field Daniel Robertson. Here's to one that is lined it a left field that's going to be a hit housing over to cut it off his Robertson Hampson is going to test him. Robertson. Here comes the throw. It's quickly owing to Counseling is struck out six. Has allowed three hits to Charlie Blackmon, and he has scored the game's too runs on a Double let he scored eventually on a fly out in an error and then home run number five last inning. Go to toe. Hampson, breaking ball pulled foul on account stays at two strikes. Garrett is the batting average. 2 74. There is well He's need to string submits together Toppy against a groundball base hit to right field overto play it. His bets and over to third base will go D as in a throwback to first and Toppy a dives back in So a pair of two out singles puts runners at the corners. For Garrett Hampson. Now the hit total much better this afternoon than the first two games of the Siri's. They just have to figure out a way to get the clutch hits going. They were Hold for nine in that category last night old for three so far here this afternoon stoppages rolled that. SF Giants Off to Successful Season Start

"It's a new world of Giants baseball. And frankly, it's been a very good week for the Giants and a continued last night as the Giants beat the Texas Rangers 7 to 3. It was a close game for a while. Look like it was going to be 4 to 2 of 5 to 2. And then the things happen a little bit later. And the Giants ended up winning the game 7 to 3 over the Texas Rangers for the Giants. After that, 1st 2 games down in L. A Things are much better for them. 43 runs scored for the Giants. They've given up 50 so they have a run differential of minus seven. But you start the season might is 15 after a couple of games and you see they have whittled that down. But for the Giants last night against Texas was men and boys, really the Texas pitching staff 11 walks And a hit batter for the Texas pitching staff. Last night, Jordan Lyles was all over the place and helped the Giants tremendously with all the walks that he gave up, and for the Giants, they took advantage of it, and it was really nice to see A ball club that is doing something offensively and To those of us who've watched Giants baseball for so long. You know, that offense has always been somewhat of a question for the Giants over these last 10 or 11 years of tremendous results with great pitching. But the offense has always been a question. Now. All of a sudden the offense is leading the way and the pitching is doing fine. You know, Drew Smyly last night. We'll talk about the game. But you, smiley I ended up going four innings than leaving the game with the discomfort of the index finger. So that means a trip to a Dr Scott Hampson. I'm sure and two of the hand therapists, Nancy And I know them both very well. And he's going for an M R I on that index finger, so ligament issue or something like that. But Smiley did go four innings last night for the Giants and continue that streak of no starting pitcher going five innings. For the Giants, and that's the longest streak in the history of Major league baseball. So today they look to Jeffs a margin to try to break that. See if he can give him five good innings today. But continuing with last night, 52 at our be eyes. For the Giants to out and they got the hit to drive in a run three for 10 with runners in scoring position,

Hollywood moment: Harvey Weinstein's sentencing

"Today. The disgraced Hollywood producer. Harvey Weinstein will be sentenced last month. He was convicted of rape and criminal sexual assault and faces up to twenty nine years in prison. Prosecutors have urged the judge to consider what they called a lifetime abuse towards others even though for most of those alleged abuses. Mr Weinstein has never been charged. His lawyers have petitioned for the minimum sentence of five years saying that any longer could constitute a defacto life sentence after Mr Weinstein conviction the Manhattan district attorney Cyrus Vance Junior said. The change had come to America. This is a big day. This is a new day and I hope women will will understand the significance of the jury verdicts. Today is. Optimism was echoed. By some of Mr Weinstein's accusers and their lawyers is a historic. I never thought I would see in my lifetime. Change has come today. I have a message for Harvey for all of Users Rape Myth perpetuators victim blaming and knows retaliated against sets. This one's for you. Your time is up. The allegations against him formed at the start of the metoo movement very public example of what remains troublingly hidden kind of crime. It would be easy to see his conviction and imprisonment as a high point for me to next. He'll face charges in Los Angeles for crimes. He continues to deny. Just how much any of these cases will change. Things is far from clear hustling surprised. Sasha Economists Public Policy Editor Mr Watson case certainly wasn't a slam dunk. Some people may have had that impression but it was by no means a straightforward case. These sorts of trials of radio really complex and in addition is to watch team faced accuser's stories straightforward. In a way they were very representative of a lot of these cases in the sense that they fit coach. Roy Do rape in being something that happens with a lot of force and a ski mosque by Stranger instead. These women told stories of complex relationships including ongoing contacts with Mr Weinstein off to the souls and typically juries have really struggled with this kind of cases in fact most of those cases that make it anywhere need a jury and to that extent. Actually very atypical case. Because of course Mr. One Steen's case as well as the accusations have all played out very very publicly of in multiple accusers. Zubin spelled out in the media. One thing that made it question unusual case is that the judge allowed extra witnesses women who would not pass the charges against Mr Weinstein to nevertheless testify over previous aqel bad acts that they had experienced at his hands. Allegedly it certainly was quite controversial. May well be part of the grounds of a possible appeal by Mr Weinstein team. And what would that appeal? Look like it's Hampson. No I mean concerns have been raised about whether Mr Watson could have affected trial in given all the media attention publicity particularly in New York City before the trial. His team tried very hard to get. The trial moved to somewhere where they thought he might face a forgiving jury that was thrown out. This is a long process. Take easy setup two year and I guess one of the questions now that people Rossi's while is he gonNA get out to bail can continue to monitor while that process is ongoing which is has begun wanted to run up to his trial. So you say the result is a bit surprising and and certainly prosecutors and plenty of commentators have held it up as a sort of watershed moment is a sort of a apotheosis of the of of the metoo movement that essentially was launched. By by these cases. What's your take on that I think? The watershed which is an awful lot immediately after the valid. And I understand it. I mean this was a high stakes trial. Which the Manhattan. Da. Couldn't afford to lose so they threw themselves out this only on the hands. I think as as many celebrity trials we have to be careful with Conclusions hair. I hope it will be a watershed moment. There's an awful lot wrong with how sexual. Violence is is investigated and prosecuted. But I have my doubts. I think the the real test will come when single women also group of women come forward to accuse somebody of rape without the media attention right without. Will the inefficacious if you will of the accuser has been an awful lot of emphasis on how powerful Mr Weinstein is but his accusers. Happen quite powerful as well. Essentially they had public opinion rooting for them. And I think the real test of whether the the Weinstein verdict will have a BRUDER EFFECTS. On how serious criminal? Justice Systems. Juries take these kind of complex claims will only come when we see an everyday victim. Come forward with with a typical claim of sexual assault. So what you're essentially saying. There is that celebrity. Justice is fundamentally different. I mean why do you suppose? That is I- celebrity justice in general is just is only certain. Becerra was it is just different from normal justice putting old big bright lights and attention onto someone being accused in this case Mr Weinstein. That's a typical way of injustice remedy a J Simpson trial which was essentially works like a soap opera. Essentially didn't have that much impact with how of the mothers were investigated then tried in Los Angeles and I think the same will be the case with the wider significance of the wanting conviction. Today that said there is of course important symbolic function to mocking. Somebody like Mr Weinstein up and holding his feet to the fire. So I said he wouldn't diminish the symbolic importance of seeing someone powerful like him wrote into a cooled. Convicted unlocked. Up is just going to be careful with suggesting that. Will the other huddles that stand? In the way of getting justice for everyday victims have now disappeared. I mean the one distinction here between Mr Weinstein's case and the OJ Simpson case is that Mister Simpson was was acquitted whereas Mr Weinstein has been convicted. Don't you think that that at least has sort of knock on effect sort of casts a shadow over over future cases gives future jurors a sense that That that there is an example being set there. Yeah maybe I mean future jurors in reminded with this case that rape doesn't look the way they think looks so it's been very helpful to have this very public lesson. If you will in rape myths that rape is a complex crime that said we pull people every year on their attitudes dissection. Rasmussen doing that. Insensitive metoo movement took off. And in that we don't really see much of a change in public attitudes to sexual harassment and indeed in America way would have hoped that reporting rates of sexual violence had increased most under reported binding crimes often me to after an initial bump reporting rates of back down to what they were before me to see. Let's see what happens next year. You know it always takes a while to get the kind of data but be careful with two inches at this point.

Well, today, many consumers are choosing to scale down to a smaller home and embracing a simpler life, but finding storage space solutions require some creative thinking now, here's some great ideas that are working for other small households. First of all you want to try to sketch it out, I if he can it doesn't have to be a perfect drive. It can be any kind of drawing mechanical hand-drawn, computerized, whatever it is. However, you feel comfortable just sort of communicating that idea if you can draw out the room in your home, I pencil and your furniture placement. You can see exactly how you can use it before moving day. And if you do want to get more technical, I mean, there are so many different types of software that you can use. There are simple easy to use one's for an ipad or an iphone are sort of a tablet solution where you can just basically put the dimensions of the room in. And it sets that space for you. And then you drag and drop furniture and ingest their measurements. Or you can go more high tech or you're doing something more and sketch up or AutoCAD those things are really helpful not as difficult to utilize. I mean, there's so many great Dettori all's Online's don't be afraid to try the more tech savvy side of it as well. Yeah. Something like gonna fit in your room. Thank of that veracity Pillay in Johannesburg and Jonathan Steele here in London studio with me, but before we get into that Jonathan you've come to us fresh from a conference on Syria in London this week. This is a very interesting conference at the London School of economics, mainly with Syrians taking part. Basically the exiles. So they're not program in any way. But they were quite depressed about what was happening because who knows wars winding down, and that means that there's less killing going on the government is determined to sort of beaver said one of the academic said to be fortification mode. They want to make sure that this new resurgence of violence and song. And it even goes the question, whether the government wants refugees to come back because as one of them, again, another one put it the government doesn't have the resources not only not to feed people coming back to police them because the sources fear that there could be a new uprising us there wasn't twenty eleven and even talking about people coming back does that mean that there is a sense that the conflict is winding down. I think there's a definite sense. I think everybody agrees including opposition people. Hold up mainly in. Live in northwest, Syria. The rest of the country's back onto government control, the whole of Damascus big cities, Hampson Hammond. And. Leper so fighting house really calm down and the government claims they control what they call can the terrible phrase useful, Syria. The area. They consider doesn't matter in the northwest doesn't matter, but the big cities in the spine of the country, which runs no south from leopard entre Moscos's back from and government is very very interesting to hear the you say there's consensus that the conflict is winding down and get one of our contributors recently was talking about standing on the balcony of her home in Damascus and seeing the bombs falling on another part of the city will I think that's a little bit out of date. Now that used to be the case when I lost about a year ago. You could hear the poems and see the plain song. After the fall of Houston Huta in the spring of this year, pretty much, Damascus suburbs and back government control back under military control. But as hinting from this conference is the whole question of political Israel and government is not going to make any concessions, those can be no compromise or to alter the in fact, the Geneva talks dead dead sing because the government is determined to consolidate its victory, forty five country grounded Sern regime and not make any concessions tool, and as our other guest on the line from Johannesburg knows very well one thing is is the struggle. And another thing is the peace afterwards and Borussia Pillay on the line from Johannesburg. You've been looking into something else. We talk about South Africa we used to as the rainbow nation, but you have been looking at an undecided of racism within. Would you say? Within the black community. Absolutely. The skull within the black community and within the Asian community. And in fact, many communities I myself am of south Indian descent, so I really had from both sides being sort of sixth seventh generation growing considering by South African as well as of Indian descent and seeing just how these tropes play out. And because it's so much of a black lives have been discussed in relation to to whiteness and colonialism. It's only now that we started to have this conversations within black communities, which I think is really important that we start talking about how have we internalized notions of self hatred, and so on and a one of the one of the obvious things is the skin lightening creams, which understand you're searching. Yes, I'm actually writing a book on the topic of color rhythm and cutter ISM. You know? It's it's got so many. Sort of impacts in our society. One of them is of course, you know, the most obvious one is the very damaging nature of skin lightening creams in South Africa. We were fortunate enough to had those band very early on in in in our in, you know, in the sixteenth s the damage became apparent and people still use them they're widely available in black markets. And and you know, it's not just about the health risk. There's so many studies that show that lighter skinned people are lacking black people get much more in all kinds of opportunities job opportunities. You only have to look at Hollywood to see this. The light skinned the lighter skinned black woman is is usually cost darling. And the darker skinned black woman is cast as the villain and just how it is becoming in growing and growing conversation with these kind of things are being unpacked, and it really reaches across the world. And when I visited India for the first time, I was considered extremely dark, and and it's very interesting to me because I grew up under. The influence of black consciousness of Steve Biko where you taught to love yourself, and that influenced my understanding of my own skin color, and in India, it really was seen as a huge, Mark. I could not find makeup in my skin color. And I'm I could not find any creams that did not have skin lightening in them. And as you say this is prevalent across the rest of Africa, the Congo, Nigeria and so on. Coming. You mentioned black consciousness. I was just wondering right now, the ANC is. Emphasizing blackness much more. In fact, I think Tabor Mbeki recently said the ANC is becoming a black party. He was saying that was a criticism and you've got the economic freedom fighters. Rules, pushing sort of black power entering into this debate on on this sort of saying to toback people you shouldn't fool for this nonsense about calories and trying to look whiter than white. So absolutely. This is a very much a debate that I think is raging amongst the diaspora and blackmail across the world, whereas in South Africa because of the fierce black pride and a big movements towards owning your blackness. It would be considered very unfashionable to to avert. We say these things so it's really subtle. It's really a subtle thing. You know, they'll be adobe slang terms. Coined Appalachia skinned woman, yellow bone, and there'll be a preference towards them in music videos, and in also liberty culture. They'll be gradual lightning of our liberties getting lighter and lighter because they're using something called glutathione. Injections, which is not tested at all in terms of health implications, and literally lightens your skin. So there is this professing publicly of being proudly black while I'm working really hard to conform to a standard of beauty in terms of intensive one skin color and other aspects of how presents themselves. Hey up of fat. So while the ANC are very pro black. You know, there's so many issues for them to tackle. They haven't quite got onto this one yet. Well, let's hear more about that issue later in the program rationally Pillay on the line from Johannesburg and Jonathan steel here in London. But right now, let's go to France where the capital is waking up amid fears of another weekend of violence and new nationwide protest of the zone. All the yellow vests is due to take place in the coming hours, the government as well as major unions have called for calm asking protesters to stay away from places where many of last week's more violent incidents took place in the capital, but also in the rest of the country to in Paris, major attractions such as the Eiffel tower will remain closed today. But all of this is despite concessions from president Emmanuel Macron earlier this week, including abandoning a planned increase on fuel tax. And yet that hasn't appeased everyone tensions remain, very high as Hugh Scofield reports from Paris. It's

And I think I've said this before people face timing without headphones on frames. I just don't train. Be still picking me up juicy floor. Honestly. Shut up is not so much the people on the train speaking that. I'm Jay to it's the people with the tinny voice. No, it's the it's the other person on the phone, and it's the tennis of the conversation. That's what's annoying. Don't take calls on the vestibule the vestibule that's the lobby bit not me backside vestibule because stuck his vestibule Dopp before you might have heard it. But it's it's not what it means. It means your house all it does not vestibule anyway. I will always win the lovey. I will if I can get into the coin carriage. Yeah. Not that people are actually about the quiet carriages most of the coin carriage. There was a group of older ladies from the Yorkshire area who wants got on a train and to be fast. Sometimes when you tickets last minute often puts you in the quiet carriage. And if you specifically look, I appreciate, you know, people you should tell them off immediately. You should tell awesome to stop. And if they continue then hell hath, no fury. But then to begin with you should give them the benefit of the down. But this this group of elderly ladies both had pleaded skirts. Very smart got on and one of them Fain rang announcement. Hello. Hello bet. Own. No, it's all right. Betsy. Say anything. Mums better. Yeah. Mum's the word. She turned to friend outta hanging up when you're never just guess what Bessis told me, and it's sort of refresh. Good. Thank you Dawson sketch. "You know a lot of it is been patients in time and a lot of pondering and thought about what i really wanted my work life to look like and i think i'm excited for you to delve into your journey because it's similar you sort of start on one path in i think it is very tempting to get locked into the traditional expression of that path so for example if it's pediatric endocrinology you know seeing patients all week long or perhaps being a researcher i knew i didn't want to go the research route so i started i started sort of the traditional way after finishing my training and was doing nine clinic sessions a week mini nine half days which is pretty heavy at more academic centers they do last but i purposely chose a place that was more clinical because i didn't want to be research based and found myself seeing a lot of patients all the time which was probably good for me because i got a lot of practice into being officiant and releasing a wide variety of things right out of training which was awesome but about two years in it started i would look at my schedule and it felt like this sort of treadmill like that i couldn't get off of like when would i get to do something else one would i ever get time to pursue some of these you know interesting potential research projects or even though i said i didn't love research there are some clinical questions i wanted to look into when would i get more time to dedicate to teaching when would i perhaps get to demonstrate hampson leadership potentials takeover a small program or something like that and so i started just to keep my eyes open for what those opportunities might be and in my case two things kind of jumped up and i didn't seek them out i just sort of went down the past as they opened up and i think that's important because sometimes i think people do try to force things and i do think some patients is necessary i mean this is you know people talk about millennials oh i need to be following my passion in traditional stories they quit something abruptly and then end up floundering around and that's when that works out.
