In our nimrod governor isn't as bad as he was six months go seems like he's seen the light man he's social rusher he's running for senate next year but you still gotta watch out for this guy because he saying stuff that's just like what he said. Last year. He said something recently about how he has no plans to institute a another mass mass mandate. Or you know one of these things another lock down one of those things but last year. He said similar things that he didn't have a plan. And then all of a sudden he had a plan right sheriff but at least he signed the medical freedom law which prohibits public public agencies from. That doesn't do anything for me requiring the vaccine. Was that different. That helps the city hall clerks. Well i mean hey you know what it might be time to go. work for. Government is definitely not time to come. But if you do want to get somewhere that is freer moving toward kuwait arrest. They're always looking for road. People come up to new hampshire because there are definitely jobs here. I saw a post from someone in the free state project. Facebook group day. I wanna move to new hampshire. "So i know that they do allow people to i. Maybe what you mean by this. Dave is that they they do allow people to join the free state project. Who are already living in new hampshire so it could be that some of those state reps are those types of people like people who've been here for years or they've lived here their whole and they decided to join as a pre state or whatever. The terminology is but you know. Maybe that's a question for jeremy kaufman. As far as where did that number come from. Who are they Because it does sound like there are way more now than they've ever been. I know like the new hampshire liberty alliance for instance they you know have a rating system where they give every state representative all four hundred plus the twenty four senators a report card at every single year. And they give him a grade you know. A. through f. and then there's actually blow after what they call constitutional threat and those numbers are also growing Like the people who are a. rated or be rated State reps now if you're an aerated. Rated state rep. It doesn't necessarily mean you're libertarian. It just means that you vote pro freedom more often than than not But still you know. It's things are trending in a good direction here in new hampshire politically. And that's why we saw for instance the budget get cut By three point three percent so the freedom caucus whether it's forty libertarians or thirty libertarians. Or whatever how you wanna define this. It's doing some pretty amazing work there. So i think there's eight anyway go ahead. The free state project website used to count the number of people who had signed and moved. And that's how we must continue counting it if you wanna compare this year with ten years ago right now but the problem is now the free state project website. Just sort of like again. We're all flying tigers counting all these people that didn't move here so The people they're kind of people who were already in new hampshire. It looks like it yeah. I'm fine numbers. I'm totally fine with that. I think it's i think it's a good idea that not let me explain. Why don't count. Compared to ten years ago. You got the same thing to be scientific at two different points in time. Well i don't numbers really matter as much as as much as it's important that we're getting locals people who are already here excited about libertarianism. To me that's the important not some arbitrary number on a website. We already knew what that was going on. We didn't know scientifically what was happening in twenty one. Measure the exact. Imagine the exact same thing in twenty twenty want scientific measuring justly no date. They are still. They are still measuring the number of movers. So vince perfetto. Who was the president of the free state project earlier this year. Sadly resigned and left new hampshire but Vince He he said that the twenty twenty. There were a record number of movers to new hampshire as part of the free state project and they are expecting that number to be beaten by the twenty twenty one movers and largely it's due to cope. It's the crackdowns it's due to people. Finally realizing time to make the move. It's definitely time to make the move to new hampshire if you're sick of all of this stuff because new hampshire just made it illegal for the government to require you to get vaccine. New Hampshire Legislator Calls to Rally Others to Run for Office

"And one of the things I did is Had enormous number of books as you can tell, and I went through them, and I tried to pick what I considered the most, uh Iconic and most powerful for them. On the left. And then, uh, take the sections that I thought were most important and then sort of narrow those down and then explain them. And then in the end of each chapter tied together, And then, of course, the end of the book say We got a rally Now. Do you see things changing at all? You know you're a state rep in New Hampshire. I don't think people are very happy with what's going on in this country. Do you? No, they're not. I see that people are absolutely rallying, usually after an election things quiet down, but we've had people getting involved staying involved going to town Council meetings. School board meetings. We had the Wyndham audits for those ballots that had been miscounted because of those folds and we see people that are involved every day here and we have some more opportunities for people to get involved. We actually have two special. We've already had two special elections where 400 person health. We have two more special elections scheduled and we might have another four. So there's opportunities for people to run and get involved and be involved both at the state level as well as next spring for their town cities or school board, So it's a really exciting time because there's so much momentum carrying over So many people that are still so involved, and I'm hoping that we can really keep moving this forward. "Right that there certainly no authority to just do that by decree whether congress would do. It is another question if congress wants to do it. That's a debate. We should have if if this if they if the democrats really believe this important than take their case to the american people put a bill in congress and get it done. I don't doubt that there is real hardship for many renters. but to your point bill I also doubt that there's hardship on the landlord side. I mean they still have tax payments that are due. They still have repairs upkeep. They have to make and there's one particular story i'd point people to it's a new york times story It's a landlord who rents the basement and first floor apartment of her home in queens She says that her tenants have not paid rent in fifteen months The tenant the basement apartment Keyed her car. She has that video apparently and it took a getting a protection order and then a warrant to get that tenant out because they are You know because the evictions are on hold and alicia. I think there are a lot of these stories that are not being told among landlords who own maybe You know a house here or a couple of apartments there. Maybe they bought it or their parents bought it as an investment or retirement. Something like that. And they're that's what they do. That's their day to day they work. They're they're essentially landlord on a small number of apartments. Yeah means that it's a key source of renting matching for a lot of older people Now as you mentioned you there have been stories about tenants defacing property. I mean news stories of in court. Filings are full them the what. Cdc eviction moratorium actually as written Does not protect evictions for defacing property or In such instances but the court said the courts have interpreted or interpreted. Cdc man voter interpreting the evictions whether they can allow them the have basically ruled in favor of the tenants in many cases So i think the cdc moratorium has to some extent given both license to the tenants to not pay rent but also allow them to be let they can abuse abused situation abuse. The property and to bill. I agree with you that it's better for congress to do it than for the administration to try to continue it unconstitutionally according to the supreme court but by this this is the problem also with federal programs is they apply to a huge country. And if you look at the unemployment rate in nebraska for example it's two point five percent in utah. It's two point seven percent. It's two point. Nine percent in new hampshire south dakota there are a lot of places where the labor market it looks like i by those numbers essentially has has recovered. And that's the problem with these national programmes as they apply to new york city. The same way they apply to omaha and there are some states that have done their own addiction. Policies moratoriums and Those states it seems to me bill at me to make make sense for to leave that policy to the states that are closer to the issue at no what the market is like in their area yes and also have more accountability to local people. I think look. I think it's a ghastly idea I i'd be opposed to it for all sorts of reasons just as you say there's hardship on people who can't afford their rent payments i mean for landlords a lot of these landlords. That's that's their income they go. They're going without income because of cova too because of this Lawn that makes it very very difficult for a lot of them. So i think a federal intrusion is just The worst you can do. I mean there are degrees of badness i think the worst is would be an executive order or something like that you know which i think. The supreme court has has ruled out. Look if joe biden thought this was really popular. It'd be looking for ways to do it himself and take all the credit for it.

Its own goal of partially vaccinating. Seventy percent of american adults by tomorrow nearly sixty seven percent of those eighteen and over have received one dose while forty seven percent of the public is fully vaccinated heading into the celebrations. The president warned those who haven't gotten their shots yet concern that people who have not gotten vaccinated have the capacity to catch the variant the white house announcing it will deploy surge response teams to hot spots as fears grow over the highly transmissible delta variant

Republican Attorney Generals Should Care About What's Happening in Georgia

"Now there's several ways to look at this. First of all new folks can do this yourself. You can look at Massachusetts versus the Environmental Protection Agency. It was a bogus decision of 54 decision. John Paul Stevens wrote the majority decision. It was an outrageous decision. But it gave standing to the state of Massachusetts to sue the EPA. Because Massachusetts basically argued, Look, Pollution doesn't know state lines across the state lines. So what happens in New Hampshire or somewhere else affects us in Massachusetts? So of course we have standing to sue the EPA. And so they said, You know what you do? Which was a Monumentally buffoonish decision, but nonetheless, it's not been overturned. It was done in order to advance the radical agenda. The D growth. And that is something that the Republican legislatures and state attorneys general can now rely on. In joining Georgia, and here's my point. Georgia has made reforms to its voting system actually liberalized that prior to the virus system that was in place. And that what happens in Georgia does affect other states. First of all, they're overlapping provisions. A lot of states that have passed laws or passing laws are doing something similar to what Georgia has like a voting. ID requirement or something of that sort.

This said the researcher. The findings also added a growing body of research that or to a growing body of research that indicate the effects of the corona virus have extended beyond physical health and safety particularly as people deal with social isolation grief unemployment and uncertainty about the future.

He's still has a hold on the republican party. You serve with a lot of republican members of congress. How do you explain it. What republicans do about it well over the last couple years. I've really seen it. Take off. When i first got to congress. I could see this nationalist sort of starting to swell and by about two thousand fifteen. It took hold of the republican party in in a pretty big way at first members of congress when donald trump took office were doubtful about him. They would make fun of them in private. They'd criticize him They'd insult him. Even i thought they going too far and i was a big critic of donald trump and i couldn't believe some of the things that were said about him and then around two or three years ago around the beginning of twenty nine or so. I saw people really start to shift and the party really became donald trump's party completely and that's going to be the way it is over the next few years. I don't think. I don't think we're going back to a different kind of republican party.

Half of Americans Over 18 Have Received at Least 1 Vaccine Shot

"News tonight on the covid front more than half of all adults in our nation have now received at least one vaccine. Tomorrow it's available to anyone over age sixteen but with the johnson and johnson shots on hold. Will there be enough to go around. San brock has more tonight. A milestone in america more than half of all adults have now received at least one covert vaccine shot as eligibility opens to everybody sixteen and up in a matter of hours but are we ready or reality check starting with supply. We're actually very good. Question attorney supply. They are confident. That even without johnson johnson they'll reach two or three hundred million doses available in the next number of weeks. Actually and cdc numbers reflect the ramp up distribution pfizer. For example was pumping out about four million first and second doses per week when president took office. That figure now sits around ten million though down a tick from peak production at the end of march as for concerns about j. j. my estimate is that we will continue to use it in some form i think by friday. We'll know which way we're going on this. Dr anthony fauci trying to calm nerves. Even as some states like mississippi or already seeing heightened hesitancy and as soon as we inform them that they had ticket off the shelves. They panic everybody left. They counselor appointments and they didn't take dr. They were out which leads us to our next question. Is there a geographic gap on vaccination rates and hesitancy. Yes a cdc uses darker colors to show the most prolific states on the coast. New york and california are among the leaders with new hampshire pacing. The nation the lighter colors are in the south representing states like alabama and louisiana for a two week period. In march of last year new orleans had the highest covert infection rate of any place in the world. That might explain why. The rates have vaccination here are higher now than anywhere else in louisiana which is lagging overall. The vaccine's there. Now we have to get people to the shot. And i think we have to continue to educate people. We have to decrease any of those barriers. That are out there. In an ongoing push to inform with around a quarter of all americans fully vaccinated

It's but i've seen the night room too but it goes beyond that. There's the red now you you know lot. There's a red forest is after that. So i'd have seen that four. So you've seen way more than i've seen. I've only seen in full episodes like one or two like the pilot in the second one but i've seen bits of the night room But yeah no. You've think you know way more than i do. I know and i can't say anything. I gotta i gotta be a good boy and not no spoilers but but i know that's what i'm really not that in these interviews have not used to this kind of kind of guy. You can't change anything. I was at the roundtable at new york comic con. And i know you act. That's the first time you mentioned that. I was there so that was cool. I remember that and that was my first time doing like comecon By think i said the wrong thing at every single great matter of fact after you left everybody on our table agreed that you are that you were gonna hit it out of the park on in the role and and you share did. It was a great part for you know that. That's so nice. I mean i i obviously i think anyone mcgee little Nervous before this comes out knowing how much people of the movie and and also that experience at comecon like i. Because i think i've that before that i wasn't initially like this isn't my world i i was never like sci-fi fan even though i've now i'm writing wonder woman flippers. Changed my but but that was my first experience with how much fans like. Really get into this sort of thing there and Especially what i've realized on twitter and just -ocial media is i. I'm just doing press by their dedicated. He's not just our show but like any show that they're into they know more than you really invest in it. And so i thought my pressure initially was just like dipping into the shoes of brad pitt. Which would not enough pressure for me then realizing you know how invested then i'm like god i i need to be more invested. Not until it's been actually really nice to see the reaction On twitter and stuff to who've been live tweeting is all new to me but Vici fat like well. Maybe not yet but people are watching the show their reactions and support and encouragement. Jimmy especially has been like oh ugly and relieving. The good thing is ratings wise. It did very well. You know it said a couple of records for sci-fi that night and so there you got off to a great start so I i think what they're doing is a challenge like even like the numbers have been great and even if they hadn't been. I would've thought that that's something to me. What i know of the show is they're doing a bit of a different thing on sci fi with it. It seems what i've seen as more of a like cables show that that you know it's not sharp. Nato and not that god that that's what they do on the have been previously doing on the network and i think they're trying to like change things over that and that he may take time or at least how i would watch. This show is like you just said i would binge watch the way people watch t. Nowadays i think measuring numbers must be. I don't know how they do that. I don't know if i believe in numbers. Yeah they're still figuring out you know how to count for people watching things on demand and call so You know watching and especially listening audience. Well i mean. I wouldn't see for all of a but this audience is exemplified by my brother. She is like this kind of stuff and he also super smart computer way. God help me when. I get home for like this. He's like oh. Yeah i've already seen the pilot and And i'm like what out in like yeah government way. So it's like those those you can't help those people who've the minute An episode of that. The frothy thing somebody that and people like geniuses like my brother and most of the people on can find this stuff. Oh yeah absolutely absolutely. Well i'll tell you just. I mean we can talk about episode to because it aired and i just i think you gave her a lot of Obviously was in the script. I think in your performance you gave her a lot of different levels to the character because yeah a lot of it sounds like gibberish but then occasionally she'll say something that indicates that she is actually pretty a pretty intelligent young lady and so i'd like that you gave her those different levels in the performance. Obviously it was there on the script. But you also did that. How did you kind of prepare for that. Did you have a lot of direction from from the show runners at all or the. It's a combination of things. But i'm glad you notice that that was really was really important to me with this character and i give anything that they're not a cartoon or a character or especially with jennifer going because there was no much like height beforehand about this character. I didn't want them to take it from the movie and bring it into tv and her just to be like comic relief for some kind of like crazy like wanted her to be a real person. Because what i read off the page affected me and was a whole human being. So i did mean terry metallised. One of the co creators of the show talked at length about this character. And i think it was. I think jennifer it was kind of hit baby because there was blood pressure on bringing. How are we gonna bring this jackson going character in. I think initially they were like we're just not going to do. We're not going to do. And then when they decide sneaking a girl he told me just going to calcium process worker. Found somebody who they thought was that character or could do that So i think he was really invest in therefore we sent out. It was great to have somebody who was so willing to la. Talk about it with me all the time. Because i'm trying to like that. Like i do want to delve into every word to me has dory behind you and especially with somebody like jennifer when.

"Victory here is the beginning of the end for Donald Trump right. So that's that's it wasn't thank all of those people who have worked contributed twelve campaign but make the point but at this point in the campaign we are taking on billionaires and we're taking on candidates funded by billionaire. Oh Oh could even talking about Buddha judge there was he talking about anyway. Here's Amy Closure America. I'm Amy Klobuchar and I will beat. Donald Trump is the most uniform that in a democracy it is not about the loudest voice or the biggest bank account. It is about the best idea and about the person who can turn those those ideas into action. We know that we cannot win big by trying to out. Divide the divider in-chief we know that we win by bringing people with US antenna stead of shutting them out. That sounds like it's almost aimed at those people booing at the Buddha judges of the world when they come on the big screen the sanders campaign. Let's listen to Mayor Pete. I admired Senator Sanders. When I was a high school student I I just reminding? Sanders has been around. But we we. We have another sound bite on that question of division. Play that one in this election season we've been told by some the you must either be for revolution or you are for the status quo. But where does that leave the rest of us. Most Americans don't see where they fit in that polarized vision and we can't feed the most divisive president in modern American history by tearing down. Anybody Buddy who doesn't agree with US one hundred percent of time he's taken on those progressive that want strict adherence to to to Progressive Policies Revolution Russian. Yes I got to tell you. The gloves are offering. This reminds me of the Republican Party for years ago. You remember this was no when trump was accusing cruise Running out of steam that arguing running out of steam on that argument hands in the you know one of the developments. That happened late in New Hampshire. John in and you saw saw. And you're out there covering it along with me. When when Joe Biden launched that attack ad against people judge and made fun of him for having Nice Lights under under a bridge and redoing the bricks on the on the sidewalks it was really a a mocking tone that disappeared from his speech? Initially the next day it was almost like his heart wasn't in it it. It wasn't in it and it was probably one of the worst at the maybe the worst out of scene in the cycle. Well it look. I know people in the camping. We're excited about it. They thought it was going to be a momentum shifter for them But the end Joe Biden pulled out of that of New Hampshire before it happened Went right right on to South Carolina he has. He has backed off in one of the most stunning developments of this early stage. John we've been talking for year. Joe Biden the front runner. I think we've expressed skepticism vowed whether it's real but I think both of us at one point said well you know you gotta just tip your hat to the polls in say there's gotta be something there maybe there was nothing there. Maybe there was nothing there. He now has all his hopes on on one st on South Carolina and all of us hopes pinned on his ability to keep African American voters in particular in his fold. And there's just really no sign that we're seeing in public polling or the Any of the the optics or the reporting from the campaigns to suggest a lot of confidence there. Yeah I I have to commit I. I think that I think we both may have been a little skeptical about this Since the start of this campaign he he. You Know Biden managed to be the the front runner in those national polls for a long long long time front runner even in a lot of the polls in the early states. But it just goes to show how useless Those those polls are so far out. You know you get into the campaign you get into the debates he and into the retail politics and you know it just it just it. Frankly wasn't there now again maybe maybe he finds a way to bounce back This is a very strange race but before we take our break and I know you're GonNa you have a conversation with one of the one of the real behind the scenes stars of this You know in the operative level on very interesting one of the most intriguing democratic operatives in at this in this race for the Democratic nomination so far somebody who has Who Brought Mayor Pete worked went to work with him when when nobody Stephen New Outta knew we was or if you knew he was? You certainly didn't know how to pronounce his name And you've got that conversation coming up before we take our break the rick. GimMe the. GimMe the Gimme the the down and dirty here Bloomberg is this. It seems to be playing to what he wanted. He wanted Iowa and New Hampshire Nevada and South Carolina Linux to To Leave the Democrats with no clear front runner with Bernie Sanders You know moving towards the nomination but not the strongest of ways and to be able to come in to basically save the party from the You know for the Democratic Socialist left is it. Is it working In in the spirit of New Hampshire debates which we had another great one of let's dispense with the notion that that Michael does not know what he's doing. Michael Bloomberg knows exactly exactly what he's doing John and I the detail that sticks out from these these first couple of weeks to me beyond the right play that things kind kind of kind of devolved into chaos the Democrats early on which is actually what he wanted that Bernie Sanders is in bold under the Joe. Biden is fading. The fact that Michael Bloomberg called those voters in Dixville Notch New Hampshire only like five of them or something. Right are five. It's it's actually specifically five and they had is and they have one in four four vote in the democratic and John after he made those calls he wins the Republican side. One Zero one zero and he wins the democratic side. I think the two votes to entire votes any hijacked a new cycle from the people that it spent more than a year and millions and millions of dollars of hard earned fundraising cash. He stole it all from under their noses by making a couple of phone calls on landlines to people in the North Country New Hampshire and that dominated the day of coverage and look Michael Bloomberg has all the problems in the world when it comes to stop and Frisk. There's all the reasons that this guy can't win the Democratic nomination but it's not just about fifty billion dollars in his bank account. They're doing savvy things in the digital space and in this case the very analog space to show that he has got muscle and some moves. WHO'VE I I don't know I don't know how he could look stronger right now in terms of probably if that stop and Frisk stuff? Wasn't there vice. It was awful and his apology for it. which wasn't an apology? I mean my Lord this lodge you can't you can't you. Can't erase things but what you can do is build build that up in and Bloomberg sitting there waiting for the voting to happen in a couple of weeks knowing that the first four contests are almost certain. Not Breakaway. Why did he announce his New Hampshire leadership team was that today? It was today right. I I actually what I I what I saw after the primary what I saw it off of it to my email box. I thought it was stuck from last week sometime. I I don't I yeah I don't i. Don't do New Hampshire emails after Hampshire primary. I gotTA move on. But yes he sees New Hampshire leadership. TV's opened up a campaign office because it's a general election here. Wow all four electoral votes and guess what Donald Trump was just there the other day. And there's a lot of Democrats who already thinking how he had to keep the state blue is that one of the narrowest narrowest victory by trump of anywhere in the nation. I'm sorry victor loss by trump anywhere in the nation. They'd love to flip it back in. Michael Bloomberg is spending money to make sure they don't who is already working on the general election. Okay all all right. We'll take a quick break and we'll be back with Rick's discussion with arguably the most intriguing democratic operative of.

"Walk powerhouse politics on. ABC News Chief White House House correspondent Jonathan. Karl and I've seen his political director recline a rick that I mentioned to you. I've got a book coming out. No I don't I don't really yeah. Yeah trump show. Aw coming out in like a month or so but I mean that's not what we're here to talk about good you and I you and I just got back from New Hampshire. We did. We did a little bit going on there. This this has even though this is the wildest two weeks in politics and it happens every four years and I forget that it happens every four years but what happens is basically the entire national press corps and all the campaigns pains and all the candidates everyone goes to to moines camps there and travels Iowa for a couple of days then the caucus happened. I and then the debate New Hampshire it was an ABC debate. And then the New Hampshire primary between this year. We decided to this stuff. It up a little bit with an impeachment vote and a state of the Union address Just to just a super bowl. Just because that's how the calendar worked all spice it up giving them just throw it throw it all in there but we have survived. We're on the other side and I guess I guess we learned something about the democratic credit. Grace do we know who's GonNa win yet You know we're actually. I don't think we do we do But but it was it was interesting to first of all was good. I was up we. We were up there about a week week. You were you were kinda running that debate By the way I I don't know if you you've mentioned something I don't know if it was off the record so if it was but I was looking you. Were in in the build up to the debate. There was all this attention to wear. Who was going to be standing at which podium all the media media coverage of this you know? The cables went nuts. It's always a big thing like and then I had my sheet out because you you and your team had put out a you know a list of where everybody was going to be. Es Standing at the podium but was Elizabeth Warren standing. Joe Biden's podium all. I'm going to say you could. Google is the shots. If you WANNA YOU WANNA look at. It may not have looked quite like it. I'm not sure exactly what happened. But the somehow somehow people got rearrange a little bit and we. We don't know where why they why why they did but they did it and they did it. It was a great debate which was a great debate right. I mean it was. It was actually a great debate. I think the best sense Since Lincoln Douglas and that that didn't have all the graphics is it That that you guys had put together but but look you know we come through. We have certain lessons that we have all learned from covering democratic again frankly Republican primaries. But let's just concentrate on Democratic primaries The New Hampshire primary became a thing back in nineteen fifty two You know this this kind of first in the nation status and I thought it was very interesting to see And this was in fact Chris Donovan. It pointed out that the lowest always percentage of the vote One by any winner of the New Hampshire Democratic primary was in nineteen seventy six and it was Jimmy Carter artery one Twenty eight percent of the vote. He had no Udal. I think was in second with about twenty two percent but you know and that was that was a pretty crowded field that essentially essentially five front runners twenty eight percent the lowest that we've ever seen a winner of the Democratic primary in New Hampshire. Come on how much Bernie Sanders get going to say he wanted. He beat the record occurred. He's a new record. New percentage of the vote. Yeah he's about twenty six percent and what's fascinating about that is well. There's a couple of things John Pack there. One is yes crowded field but that means about three quarters of New Hampshire voters chose someone other than the person That ended up winning. And by the way I refresh my memory on this but but who who won last ask cycle do we do we. We recall that it was a big night for Bernie Sanders. Beat Hillary Clinton is that right As a matter of fact he said a record that night as well for a non incumbent in an the open primary he got sixty percent of the vote. That also is a record so this is one of those records. We saw this in sports. Sometimes like you know like the Maggio's hits wreak or CY youngs win record like unbreakable records right. No one else will ever have the record for both the highest portion of the vote and the lowest portion of the vote in winning New Hampshire primary. Certainly not in back to back years. That is amazing. So the trend lines don't seem to be great for centers. I have to say so you know we we see we ben we we track DOC Bernie Sanders. It's been an incredible campaign and the guy is the front runner right now. mayor Pete's got a slight Lead on the delegates but probably that's another weird thing we've had two contests and Bernie Sanders in. Both of them has gotten more votes than anybody. Nobody else and yet mayor got A to delegate lead that's actually correct What happened was the mayor? Pete because of the way that Delegates reward than Iowa was able to organize his way to a to delegate lead and because of the way. Delegates are awarded in New Hampshire. They were so close a pizza digestion Bernie Sanders. Did they actually got the same number of delegates there was. There wasn't enough difference to have you can have half a delegate portion of delegates so they've walked away tied there and yet Budaj is on paper. The delegate leader Bernie Bernie Sanders is the voting leader and meanwhile the expectations game. I I would. I would posit that. This round of the I two states was won by someone else entirely early. Amy Klobuchar maybe is a direct result of that debate. I thought you were going to say Mayor Bloomberg but okay so well that's well. We didn't even talk about Mayor Bloomberg but before we leave we leave Bernie so so Bernie. You have to look at US clearly. I I would argue the front runner D despite despite those caveats that did are clear and important shorten and our friends at five. Thirty eight agree on the same page. You know first of all. He's now starting to lead in some of the national polls. He's got more money than anybody else. And you go out and you just you can't. I mean the enthusiasm of those Bernie Sanders. Supporters is really something to behold Frankly I don't want to insult anybody or on either side maybe both sides but it's trump like You know you go. And you see He he he can he can fill up an arena just like Donald trump can and the people are fired up in dedicated catered to him and to him In many cases you know more than more than the party more than more than anything. I mean it's Bernie. Sanders is a devotion that that said And for all the talk about how this was you know that the progressives have taken over this party you know you look at it Bernie Sanders wins wins. highest percentage of the vote up but and Elizabeth Warren is in fourth a pretty distant fourth but a pretty clear majority of Democratic voters voted for a you know. Relatively moderate candidate One of those that were at least playing to to the center right right rick. I'm doing you know we. We add up the vote totals To for for Buddha judge for closure for Joe Biden. I'm you can even if you want throw in Michael Bennett's sir point three percent into their I mean it's it's more than fifty percent. Yeah and I I think you have to remember the context that Bernie Sanders did win big last time intriguingly only a lot. Fewer people said they voted for Bernie Sanders in the exit. Polls than would plausibly could have been the case given given the results of four years ago but but it was a different electorate electorate any event and they did not go with Bernie. Same numbers Bernie wins and he gets credit for the win. There's no question the other candidates would love to have a win but the the the issue for Democrats is not. Whether do they have other options to be what could be an anti Bernie. Sanders candidate the issue. Maybe they have too many options and that is very much like the trump scenario that we remember well where you could win. Primary with twenty nine thirty thirty one percent early on and there wasn't enough coalescing around someone else. That's driving the angst right now in the Democratic Party is that you have a few strong candidates include a few potentially very weak candidates the fate of Joe Biden. You'd put in that category who could all present themselves as the alternative to the man. That right now has the most votes in the two. I states and I think that all these rules that we've gone by in the past. You know the only two tickets out of New Hampshire. I never had somebody who has come in Who has either come in? First or second in New Hampshire. Go on to To win the Democratic nomination. Can you know since the New Hampshire primary has been a thing I don't think that that's I mean I don't know what's the case here I I. I wouldn't rule out. I mean Amy Colobus ours. You mentioned Ah certainly is is has an incredible amount of momentum. She she came in third Number one I think among all the women in the race in my right about that I mean but she she's GonNa she's going to be a force I think going forward You Know I. I would not rule anything I wouldn't rule out You Know Bloomberg Strategy Honesty actually working and seemed so far fetched now. It seems to be playing out almost exactly the way he planted. He's Up in up in a lot of the national polls thousand he may be positioned to do very well on Super Tuesday. And frankly rick. I don't know you may disagree with me on this. I don't you can rule. I don't you can rule out Elizabeth Warren Making You know bouncing back or even Joe Biden. I don't know long shots both of those but this this race is I think almost as wide open as it was before we went into New Hampshire and by the way in second place in South Carolina and a little pulling me half. Tom Steiner concentrated on the name of the mixed. Look I it is. It is wider open than ever for and I think Talking to campaigns in the last twenty four forty eight hours they are preparing for a slog of campaign I I think we often in in covering these races. We look for big breakaway away winners and who can get momentum that part of the campaign may already be over because Iowa New Hampshire did not give anyone the kind of enormous boost that allows you to then steamroll and make it easy. That's how John Kerry one in two thousand four John as you know. That's how that's how George W Bush ended up ended up locking locking things down those first couple of states. Vote and you get it done. I don't see how Nevada and South Carolina now can make this a clean and easy win for anyone..

The computers no gadgets gizmos to your polling place taken number like you do with the butcher. You walk up to the counter and state of the guy. GimMe a pound enough is about to go back L. Nelson Politics Fox. You've been hanging out in New Hampshire since the clock struck doc. Twenty twenty the first thing everyone wants to know is who New Hampshire. Go better than Iowa. I think it's going to go way better than Iowa. It's a completely weekly different system than Iowa. Iowa has caucuses. New Hampshire has a primary and the difference between that is Iowa has literal in person voting. Where you have to you go to a school gym or a Church Basement or union hall to literally sort yourself into a group depending on which candidate you support and then you're counted that way there's realignment there? Was this very confusing process this year where Iowa in addition to doing state delegate equivalents was also also doing raw vote totals so that were like literally three different sets of numbers that people could spin to their advantage and determining who won in her lost. So New Hampshire there is. None of that New Hampshire voters are going to go into the polls with their ballot. They're going to have pencils to fill out what their preference on that ballot. That paper ballot will then be dropped into either a box in some of the smaller towns and literally be counted out by election officials. There where where it will be scanned the electronic machine you know elections officials that. I've talked to here. I think estimates after polls close at eight. PM on Tuesday night we should start knowing results. Probably around eight thirty or nine results will start coming in gets tough to say how long that will take. But I think that it's going to be a lot a lot different than Iowa for all those who stopped paying attention to Iowa like days after the actual caucuses. This is what was the official result there. Do we have official results yet. The official results came in on Sunday. Night as everybody was watching the Oscars say say you know perfect timing. A couple of years ago there was a big disaster here at the Oscars where they accidentally read out the wrong name and it was. Nobody's fault but they guaranteed that this will not happen this this year because the academy has switched to the new Iowa caucus out a week after the actual contest took place. The Iowa Democratic Party determined that Buddha judge was head sort of eked out this win as far as delegates were concerned from Bernie Sanders Bernie Sanders also declared victory based on the raw vote counts. Because he you did win the popular vote both on the first and second realignments so Buddha Judge Sanders both came out. I think the strongest from Iowa into New Hampshire but also also had this weird effect where it let people who very clearly did not do well in Iowa skied into New Hampshire as well and start gaining momentum. WHO's gaining momentum in New Hampshire? I think that is the biggest benefactor here. I mean. She'd put everything on Iowa. I mean she had gone to all ninety nine counties or something and you know she was. She was banking on doing very while. They're experts in New Hampshire told me that she needed to do very well there and she came in fifth place did not really overperform but because as we didn't know the results until a full week later she was able to go to New Hampshire and start campaigning as if nothing had really happened there and it's been really interesting I mean she has been generating some of her largest crowds. This weekend and her campaign has been posting some of its strongest fundraising days date. So she's she's doing pretty well here. Tell me more about their. I mean we spent the first half of the show talking about this shift from house parties to rallies in New Hampshire. But what do people need to. I know about the state to better understand. Tonight's results sending Hampshire is a small New England state. It's home to about at one point. Three million people the vast majority of which are whites although there is interestingly enough a growing refugee population here as well. So New Hampshire sure has had this distinction of being first since the nineteen fifties but the general ethos and storyline around New Hampshire. And why it goes. I is that New Hampshire. Voters are very discerning. They certainly are very politically engaged. I mean we have a bonkers large state legislature here with like over four hundred people in it. So it's basically like a citizen legislature if you look at the size of our population there's town meeting every year that a lot of people go when you know in every town across the state so basically the thought is that presidential candidates come here in addition to come into Iowa for a year out before the primary so we get all this time with them that other states larger more populous and more diverse states typically. Don't get and said the idea is like this. It makes better presidential candidates also when it comes time for election day New Hampshire kind of serves to winnow the field down to the most serious candidates. Let's and did you get the sense of. There's lots of undecided voters at this point or does everyone kinda got their favor picked up. Oh yeah there's still a lot of undecided voters. People have told told me that they are probably going to make their decision up in the voting booth the day off. I talked to somebody Sunday at a p Buddha judge rally who was still torn between Amy Klobuchar and people to judge and I would have to say that that is a very common duo that people are considering like more moderate voters areas. I would say are are really stuck between those two and the other thing is kind of interesting is because Iowa such a mess I think a lot of voters here are feeling like Oh my God. This responsibility is like really falling on us. People know that this will have bearing on the rest of the race raced and they're already thinking ahead to general election. Matchup with trump and sort of trying to game out like who is going to be the best person to go up against him and defeat him and despite people being caught between Pete naming the man to beat is burning right he handily won the Primary Against Hillary Clinton Twenty sixteen. Yeah I mean the latest polling that we have he's like about six points ahead of the nearest candidate behind him which is Buddha judge. Everybody knows that Bernie's base is like twenty to twenty five percent. Maybe thirty percent of the electric here in in New Hampshire. If you look at like who voted for him last time and how much of that support he can hold onto. Because I think right now there is a real battle for like who the moderate moderate candidate will be in in a way that he has just kind of like swept the Progressive Lane and is now the front runner in that lane. And our people in New Hampshire Ward at all that if they pick Bernie they're picking a candidate that may not be able to beat Donald Trump because his views are too far to the left of the American mainstream. That was something. It certainly came up at the last debate on Friday night. Is anyone else on the stage concerned about having a democratic socialist at the top of the Democratic ticket. I'm not Senator Senator Klobuchar Bernie and I work together all the time but I think we are not going to be able to divide the divider and chief and I think we need someone to head up this ticket that actually brings people with her instead of shutting them out yeah. I think that's something that some people are worried about. And I mean if you look beyond New Hampshire like as far as arguments about electability goes I mean besides Joe Biden who is still leading. Among African American voters in South Carolina like Bernie Sanders is closing the gap among black voters. And he has strong support among Latino voters so sure you know maybe among white moderate voters he is you could make that argument. That he's not electable but if you kind of look at the country as a whole and look at the demographics of people that are supporting him it could be a little tougher to make that case. Yes so yeah if Bernie while New Hampshire. I think that it's going to be. Maybe this like awakening moment for some people. That didn't think he could get this far to to say like. "If you wanted to get in the middle of the mythology of this New Hampshire first nation primary a house party is the best place to start cool. Basically a house party already is just a person having some people over to their house and one of them just so happens to be a presidential candidate. But this is the thing that makes New Hampshire so special or at least he's the people who defend it and why we should be. I ain't so special because this is an opportunity where voters in New Hampshire can get that one on one experience with the presidential candidate and some would argue that these house parties are not just good for the voters because they get a real sense of this candidate but it's also good for the candidate because the kids it's end up shaping their policy positions based on the conversations that they have with these voters so they're like high stakes small gatherings with lots of wine and tea and snacks ax No beer well. There would be no you know Elizabeth Warren N. P. Buddha judge like an Ip a here and there hold on a sec. I'm GonNa get me. So why is this House party tradition so important well it's important because it signals this classic. A quintessential style of New Hampshire primary politics. But we're in this weird moment in in national politics where the primary calendar the way we elect. Presidents residents may be coming a little bit more nationalized whether that's because of the Internet social media the way we consume news or because the way the DNC is running these debates by by setting these high thresholds for people to get on the stage. That has people in New Hampshire tense moment. Where some of them feel like? They've got to defend these old fashioned styles. Als and you know try and ward off the power of more nationalized primary system. Okay and you got invited to one of these parties. Oh you better believe leave. I did and not only. Did we get invited. But we got invited to an amazing voicemail. Good morning this is representative Marjorie. Smith's calling a longtime state rep from New Hampshire Marjorie. Smith told us I thought he might be interested and invitation to what might say. Well we'll be one of the last old fashioned New Hampshire primary chats and to see how we did used to be don on and what's the value is in it. And she wanted to commiserate with us about what she sees as the death of the New Hampshire primary. So obviously I had to go to that Sean. All right we'll take us there. What was it like? How was the wine well? I didn't get to drink the wine. I was working consummate professional Marci come on. It's my pleasure basically. It's about forty people. Showing up to me Senator Michael Bennet from Colorado this. This is a guy who is all in New Hampshire who is trying to use this old fashioned style campaigning to boost his low name. Id break cool to have the chance for year view and in this beautiful. Put an incredible house in what as setting. It was very interesting. It was exactly what was promised Senator Bennett stood in this huge room. Arteries House or at the piano and all this art and everyone sat on her couches and chairs asked Tim questions and he answered every single one of them so in a sense this was what was promised. People in New Hampshire have a big responsibility and people in New Hampshire are confused about what to do with that responsibility. So are you going to win New Hampshire by confusing to spend a lot of time here and the and the way I'm GonNa win. It is by being in living room colluded delivering answering every question. That Margie will let me answer and cutting me off when I've gone on too long and so people are. Are you know pretty clued in to this idea that they still occupy this special role as like first in the nation voters. And so even if it's just forty people those forty we bless showed up. They know that their roles important and they're taking it seriously. What you saw tonight was unstaged? UNE programmed programmed no planted questions. A group of thoughtful concerned New Hampshire voters Who Asks Questions and listened and they gained energy and so did he but the thing is is that the House party is is running up against not just the debates but also rallies candidates like Senator Bernie Sanders in two thousand Sixteen Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders? Won The new Hampshire primary and they were mostly able to do so because they held these big rallies. That's not the style of politics that usually happens around here and the thing is those rallies these are also effective and the people who love them would argue to you that they can be just as intimate and justice filled with community house. Party can and you've been into a rally for some comparison. I actually went to a rally right up the street from Representative Marjorie Smith's house. How was it it was like seven hundred people gold? This is kind of Senator Orrin. She does a lot of these high tech. Why did you decide? Tell me Your name. I'm Natalie Bradley nettling would you be insulted if I ask how old you are no ten or I ten and ready to do a little democracy. I Mike Gale Okay Natalie. Why did you decide? I did to run for to become president. I was brought around. By two other state. Lawmakers State Representative Gabby Grossman and State Representative Debra all chiller and basically. They wanted to prove to me that the New Hampshire style is alive. And well that you can still see that intimacy that community that can be built in a house party in a rally situation between the two of us. We would know like two thirds of the people that are in line because this is our home these this. I'm going to run into half for these people at market basket after. Actually you know and then we're going to pick up dry cleaning next to each other like this is their community. It's still very New Hampshire. It's just a bigger room. Thank you everyone for coming and the photo line for yourself fees will start right over here and folks with kids yes you can come to the front of the line and they would argue. Listen for every person that Selfie line. That's a person with a problem issue that needs to be solved right. And they're getting a chance is to be one on one with someone running for president and they can say hey was with Warren. This is what means a lot to me. Will you consider picking up this issue on the campaign trail or will you consider changing your position position on this and for them. That shows the intimacy of the New Hampshire. Primary is still very possible. I mean it's electric. It's electric we. Are that concentrated foiled down cider. That's about to turn into syrup. You know like Apple Cider Syrup to put on Ice Cream. That's what is happening in this room right here do you. You think this restriction of the House Party and getting that facetime with a candidate and maybe changing his or her mind on. Something isn't being lost in this new media. Driven Rally Selfie centric tradition. I think that the primary is in a really interesting moment right now. I talked to a guy who was like well. You know what they say. Iowa big scorn New Hampshire picked. President has like. That's the job over here. Obviously everyone is looking at US anyway but now it feels like the pressure is on for us to perform because we might be the first place that delivers official results. And that could make us more powerful provide more momentum to candidates and be even more interesting impactful than we could have been otherwise so I mean it really puts the heat on us for shore. Lauren children is a reporter in New Hampshire public radio. She's also one of the hosts of its stranglehold. PODCAST that might sound like a true crime. showed you but it's all about New Hampshire's first-in-the-nation presidential presidential primary. Maybe you can binge the whole thing today while you wait for results after the break. I'll talk to vodkas Ellen Nelson about the foot race in New Hampshire. Jon Jon Rahm Sharam today explained when you start your hiring process you may have questions. Will you find good applicants to choose from what about education and experience. "I mean I make fun of her. Yeah so no oh I think he treated everything with such dignity and yet. It's still super funny. Some I imagine I'm not sure but I imagine agean that Eugene is like acting royalty in Canada yes hey man Catherine yeah so did you sign on the show like let's go to the beginning of the show. Did you sign on the show. Because they were all a part of it or do you read a script that you're like like Holy Shits Creek. This funny I signed on because I was poor. Yeah okay replaced prostitution. Thank God this is the thing that came along because if it was porno Hollywood taken So no I actually like at the time I had been in. La Delay. And I suddenly got this anxiety auditioning of his breaking out in hives and so I didn't WanNa Ooh I banged sorry I didn't I couldn't go into auditions and I told my agent. I'll just put myself on tape and Shits Creek came along and she's like go in the room they're Canadian they're Nice So I I went in and I auditioned and then got a call back and I'd actually worked with Catherine before we done a movie together and she helped me get my green guards. He was so love. Kind of like Alan Rickman. So lovely to me but I didn't I. We never saw script. I just all I knew was what I read in the auditions the sides and I knew that was Katherine and Eugene. I'm huge like waiting for. Guffman is one of my favorite movies So yeah I signed on because of La a- as well But I I didn't. It really was an I hate to say just a Canadian show but it just means that like only only Canada on the CBC was going to see this show at the time and then the world changed So yeah that's why did the knowledge of the show only being in like on Canada's air take away some of it for you I'm a negative or positive ositive looking at it. I mean from meals in the West Nile anxiety of it for me. I more anxiety about additioning the networking. Well I WANNA go back to the cast the cast like I mean. I'm not the one making these decisions. But if you told me that Eugene Levy Catherine O'Hara and Dan we're going to be on a show I would be like. Okay let's I. I'll do five seasons right now on Amazon prime I am. Let's go you know so. It's just boggles to me. That it was just a a Canadian. They pitched it to all kinds of networks states and they ended up and nobody really took it and they ended up in Canada. I think also because they got a lot more controlled way. They were allowed. You exactly what they wanted. Which I think is so great because knowing I was doing a show that had a studio behind it the same time and there's just so many cokes and with this show? This was Dan leg really Dan. And also though when you say like signed onto a show with Dan Eugene Catherine like. Dan Wasn't Jan at the top. You didn't know that he was this amazing as a creator and writer and like his hands are in everything from wardrobe to all the writing So Yeah So it's interesting now. That America loves it more than Canada Komo than Canada When yeah I know that they I'd to sell it here so now that America loves yeah? Yeah you didn't want to live the most American thing ever uh-huh Assamese ing. So this is the last season. Yes how do you feel about it. Well I've had a lot of time to feel a lot of things is about it. We shot we finished in June And then to heaven as a gift God got us a villa in Tuscany skinny to say goodbye which was really. I mean not generous so we ended the shown. What's been great as we've been doing these tours? So we get to see each other and kind of didn't feel like it was ripping up date off saying goodbye But it was sad sad and I. I think all of us didn't believe it. I we were all like. Oh He's just he's nine doing this but yes and it was now. I think think it's the greatest thing ever because it really like now that I know how it ends and everything and he always envisioned this and and so many shows also don't get the chance to even even know if they're going to end so like they just get canceled this. He has the opportunity to end the show on his terms. But also like in a way. Okay that respects all the characters and the audience and it's it's definitely a satisfying entertained I mean you're gonna cry but you're going to laugh too. Are You satisfied like that. It's over would you. Would you keep ongoing it knowing the ending Okay well well I would. I would go for one year. We could get paid that kind of money. That look at paid when people want you to do this again because we you know we were tossed getting money. Yeah Yeah Yeah. We worked in Canada. We make Canadian dollars which are equivalent to seashells. So yeah I I would go maybe one more. But but Dans Dans right like the way it ended and I remember him saying to me. He's like you know these shows go on forever and Stevie would end up Doing being a nurse somewhere at something how would you like ten them like love that I know is the right thing to do. I feel really good about it. And how it's and did it. So I think we all love our characters and love all of Hall of each other's characters and they've been done right by so it's nice now going to like the individual actors because I mean if the show is just so so funny who is the funniest I like onset and offset. No one's really funny it's true You know like I find you gene the funniest but because when he's not being like there's this thing in where he'll just like keep talking and keep talking and and the dynamic between Dan in Eugene as father and son is hilarious to me so I find very funny. Okay so explain that though because that is very interesting well Okay here's a great example. I was doing a scene with Eugene in. Dan came over to give him a note and Eugene was like Oh okay and he went and he took the note and then he like looked up to see Dan watching going to be like did I do it and Dan's like on his phone texting and in Eugene's but and and Dan's like yeah. Yeah it was great great. And so there's there's that where sometimes there's like a role reversal in terms of Yeah I don't know it's just. It's it's sweet. Eugene is so sweet funny Who's WHO's the funniest it's like when we go on tour and we play games then? We're all pretty do impressions of each other and So Catherine is hilarious. But I would say Chris is probably the one who makes everyone everyone laugh. Because he's so crazy and they'll just start he really gets Eugene like there are times when we haven't been able to finish a scene gene. 'cause Chris's made Eugene Laugh. Yeah so now that it's ending. Everyone's very sad what do you. What's what's happening next for you? Well I I just. I did this movie that I was my first time executive producing ooh which was exciting or movie but it was weird because the script came to me and usually I think when something an offer comes to me it's going to be terrible especially a horror movie But I read them like this so good His so well written and I wanted to be done like really the way I wanted. It'd be done so it was like all beyond this Viking executive produce it and So just finished in post and it's kind of like hereditary in that kind of way voice. Getting better patter a good time tonight. Oh my God that's GonNa but that's my next. That's what we're working on. No and I'm I'm developing this thing that I'm not allowed to talk about yet but it's like the most exciting thing that's ever happened to me. My Life Okay. Well thanks. He's what's the name of the horror film it's called home okay. Okay and do you have. Is there a dish bution method. We just finished their cutting it still. Emily has your thank you so so much for stopping by the Wall Sky Q.. So much I WANNA do radio this you get a snack you get. Yeah thank you so much where we get paid in. What's what's worse than Canadian dollars? Seashells Like gift certificate. Yup that's what actually that's what it is guys if you haven't seen Shits Creek it's on Netflix. And go watch all the seasons because the final season is Premiering premiering on tomorrow. Yeah Holy Crap. Yes Well let's see ramified real quick. Sorry sorry sorry sorry. Oh It's tomorrow on pop because some people like I know a lot of people. Watch it on Netflix. But if you're I first responder. No you're a first. What are those people who go by the apple things? You're a first whatever your first person you've watched it on okay for versus blonder okay. There's an emergency. Have never rapid fire questions with Emily Hampshire Might get dirty though. This isn't live right. Sometimes I have sexual terance what wonderful we already did. Kiss we know it was coined First Concert Anita Franko such lesbian. I didn't know then though that show though I'm so dumb now I'm like all signs. Were for their first job Oh.

"Emily Hampshire from Shits Creek on the show. She plays Stevie. If you haven't watched the show then went on. What the Hell's wrong with you? It's one of the biggest shows out there right now. I want to jump into Shits Creek because as with all things American when we were way behind the curve on this so was it huge because it's huge in America now. Was it huge in Canada and then someone was like. Hey what about what about this show and it was big in Canada but like has biggest things get in Canada. It wasn't I mean I was actually kind of surprised I will not surprise. I mean it's just like it was. It was one of the big shows in Canada. But that's that's Kinda like everything on the CDC is like a big show and But no there was definitely a time when it went from being kind of an inside industry thing where there there's a lot of people in the industry who were watching it and and would say they liked it and stuff too. I came back after Christmas. One time in lake doc who went into bed bath and beyond and it's a whole different experience for me. It's like it was everywhere and I do think it was. There was something political about it. Felt like the people there was bad times and then people needed something good and good heart Ed and not cheesy good like it's genuinely unfunny but it's also like I mean Dan's decision. I can't say that we're decision all of a sudden decision to make To to make Shits Creek ablaze. Where there's no homophobia I think is such a maverick move Because I would think if you wanted to address an issue you would be like like Make them have somebody who's homophobic and deal with it but no he made this world where it just doesn't exist and it's great to end so I feel like there's so much of that goodness that the show puts out that I think people need at the time that's my guess. Yeah and also so. I don't want to pigeonhole all small towns but generally really small towns at least in these United States they are less liberal about. Yeah because you're not exposed to as much. Yeah and I think what's so great about that too is Dan was like I never want Shits Creek make or the townspeople to be the butt of a joke which is so interesting like to even think that far ahead it's such. It's not usually done like that. Usually really you'd be making fun of like The townie Stevie who just stay in.
