Chicago Bulls officially hire Donovan as next head coach

"We had some big news that broke in the NBA on Tuesday afternoon after we went off air and that is one of the most desirable head coaching jobs in the League of the Chicago Bulls with their young talent. With a new front office scale, they found their head coach. It was an experienced veteran who won sixty percent of his games over the five years. He was the head coach of Oklahoma City, and that is billy Donovan scall- getting head coach of the bowls on Tuesday afternoon scale. What was your reaction when you heard the news that billy dee is going to be the headman for the bolts and I don't. Think about all that I have I'm not good with that type of stuff and I don't WanNa see here and B. M. B. S. The people I don't know what makes a good coach a certain situation I don't know what he did it Oklahoma City where when you had Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook and Katie left in it. It's just it's just a lot of variable. I know this year they were great day overachieved and he was great for. Them but I do know they also turn the keys over to cruise pause at went. But so I wish him the best I I don't I don't know what's which is even the benchmark look like for Success in Chicago I'm not even sure what I i. if I understand that I'm not even sure I understand their roster of if how good they can possibly be like a lot of guys under team. So I'd be lying if I told you all man. Shares he's going to do so good I don't I don't know any of those things. We'll see he did win sixty plus percent of his games out of the four hundred koshen. Okay. See he had an eighteen and twenty three record in the playoffs as team went to the Western Conference finals in year one when he had Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook of what they did not win a series after that any inherits a very young but my opinion relatively talented young team in Chicago So kudos to billy dee in the front office Chicago for a after a long exhaustive process finally getting their guy scale. Here's some of the other candidates that were interviewed by according to Marc Spears also according to my sources in the front. Office as well. Are they talked to Stephen Silas Jamal. Moseley Dan Craig Kenny Atkinson Gironde Collins Yodok David Vander Pool West Junior Darvin Ham and Chris Fleming who is there assistance assistant so they had a pretty long exhaustive search I. Think the search pivoted when Billy Donovan became available. That was something that was maybe unforeseen, and now he's going to get a chance where they knew front office to lead the Bulls and try to get them back into the playoffs. Gal. On because Chicago has been the second worst team in the NBA Ed only the New York Knicks in terms of the record over the last three years.

Los Angeles - Nothing Preventing USC, Pac-12 Teams From Playing This Season, Gov Newsom

"A very weird day when it comes to PAC twelve football future of it got earlier this morning, the big ten announced they're coming back. They're coming back on October twenty third they they're confident that with their testing and the way that college football has kind of gone over the past couple of weeks at other schools that they can safely bring kids back now you and I both gone on record saying, we don't think it's the smartest thing in the world to play college football. So I'm not saying that I want college football to come back I don't. US He really wants to play their players. All wrote a letter to Gavin Newsom but here's why I'm bringing this up the big ten and outs were coming back Larry Scott the commissioner of the pack twelve immediately she's a statement that says because of the governor's guidelines we are not allowed to practice in the state of California which means USC Ucla Stanford and cal all would be unable to practice about an hour later Gavin newsom the governor California was doing a press conference and he was asked is that true that you won't allow those teams to practice? Here's part of what newsome hadn't his answer quote. I WanNa make this crystal clear. Nothing in the state guidelines denied the ability for the PAC twelve to resume quite to the contrary. This has been a misrepresentation of the facts and quote. What is Larry Scott and the PAC twelve referencing when they say. They can't play because of NEWSOM and NEWSOM says, it's not true who's telling the truth here newsome. Governor ain't Lion Larry Scott I. I've never been a fan of I think he could screw up a ham sandwich. But I but I do think that newsome is telling the truth and I think we're at the point John Now with the big ten resuming along with the SEC in the big twelve and the ACC, I think it is time for the PAC twelve to seriously consider resume or starting the season starting it earlier. They've got access to this rapid testing program. They're able to test players in in very short order really quick tests. I don't see any reason why the PAC twelve shouldn't be playing right now the. Monroe. Saint Brown Graham Harrell Bunch of USC. People have tweeted this letter out basically to goose to newsom saying, please let us play and newsom saying, no, you're you're allowed to play. It's it's up to your it's up to your athletic directors. It's up to your chancellor's I. Think it's time to have a vote among twelve PAC twelve schools and get a season started.

Radio Julia Regard Novella here in in Sunday September thirteenth twenty twenty and we are back and you're listening to us on audio boom stitcher, spotify apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. We've been following the situation in the West regarding these historic wildfires. The images are just tragic, and actually I have a guest in Oregon Nydia Alycia who reached out and said I want to talk about the situation and you're on Hello Nadya. Hey Thank you so much for having me and for giving me an opportunity to share a little bit about what's going on I'm doing the does the I can be in. The worst. nightmare that don't ever wish on anybody right now. So Why don't you just break it down because obviously people see the images, the hear the voices by this is your opportunity to this is your mic tell me your situation what's going on how whatever you WANNA share. What's going on in Oregon? It's been really disheartening to see some of these. You know this is a tragedy. By all means this is a nightmare, but I also just want to share that our community even though we've been the most impacted. We are also like incredibly resilient. So many of the families that I've seen my relatives my best friends family anytime. I've checked in with people that I know I grew up here I was born and here. You. Know are people are so concerned about other people you know even though there are folks right now families who are staying at their relatives or co workers or friends, and it's like fifteen people two bedroom they're still you know like, Oh, I'm really just worried about the people who haven't found a place to stay. So I've been seeing how our local news has taken pictures of some of our folks in. A really vulnerable situation in the middle of all this heartbreak there's so much resilience in so much power. The community is coming together to lead it beautiful efforts for people on. There is so much power in our unity right now in terms of like. Checking in on each other. because. You know when these things happen, it's the direct people on the ground who weren't as impacted. It's the WHO's folks it's I mean it's hard for me because my my dad lost everything. My Mom's home is still standing even though orders, but it's on us. That's the quickest way we're going to be able to make it out of this when you call your house when you call your cousins when you call your neighbor, you just check up on each other and that's the way I've seen a lot of our people get access to food get access to close. The happened at three PM. And thank God even though this is like the worst thing an entire town burning down at three entire towns being severely destroyed by these fires. Thank God. It happened at three in the morning when you know folks are sleeping or at seven pm runs home from work. Because this, all happened in a blink of an eye it was within three to four hours. This fire went from Ashland to talent to Phoenix to Medford like I said, my mom lives in talent and my dad lived or his residence is in Phoenix in from you know checking on each other is like i. i saw the smoke, it eleven intolerant and the like. Yeah. I didn't get the call until one before we talk about your situation and others tell me a little bit about the community I. Mean that people don't know about yeah I mean who that's that question brings tears to my eyes 'cause. were community of be Natal's of a scene laws of now we would call them mighty needles 'cause there's all the ham `bout here. I'll the grapes we're just hardworking people man my folks got. In the late eighties, early nineties following the harvest from California You know once they were done. My mom got here when she was done. Picking Strawberries and she heard about pairs in southern Ohio and had an anti who had come. Sooner and my dad, you know was picking Liz in new? Mexico. about the beans out here and My Dad has planted over twelve million trees in the Pacific northwest like are people are so embedded in this landscape in the food, we produce in the beautiful mountains that you see those are all planted by our arkady that. we have make status community Some folks. Like myself, my mom and dad were undocumented when I was a child and I was a citizen in my mom eventually became a citizen. My Dad is. has his residency. So like a we have different kinds of. Legal status is which also be barrier for some of us in terms of having adjust recovery out of this disaster. But Overall, like this is what the hardest thing for me is is that I don't know a single family in in our community that has that was not impacted by this we're tightening We have some families here that You know that you've got the mom and then you have the kids we have like three generations of families here already. And we all know the you know the big lessons that family so and so make it. Okay. All will that family one lost everything others. Okay. So that's also been one of the reasons why are people have we've been able to you know figure it out a little easier because we do have we do rely on each other and like we do, we do count with each other support you know simply Say Yoga Nisa seat thou. At buckeyes and your Kiekens say you know were were just were just helping help. We're just helping each other to do our best making out of this right now

Jockey John Velazquez on his third Kentucky Derby win in his first competition with Authentic

"We have John Velazquez the hall of Fame Three Time Kentucky Derby winner on the phone now Johnny. Thanks for some time this morning the industry star of the week at the by Stuart Morris Congratulations. Thank you. Thank you for having me. Yeah. Three and ten years I think that's something that's getting overlooked here. animal kingdom always dreaming. authentic. Things did not go as planned when that gate opened on Saturday? Well I tell you. I was expecting that the we're GONNA break a little slow and I? Even said it. Before they raised a couple of his did I did you know? I get in like the position that we had just because being last one indicate normally once you get into gate. kind of like to get a sausage facets of canned really wants to live circuits. So horse is not. Hundred percent spending properly, and You Know Eight, hundred, ten, th there for jumping number good and even. He's not very quick from the gate. So with watching he's prior races and being the last one and go into the I I was back to not. On the other hand I knew he was going to be quick. you know to to get too close to the lead or BMW before we get, we get to the to the turn. So you know I didn't wear so much and I think even if you the way broke, I kinda wane gradually you know going into the lead before we get to the first time. Were you surprised that no one took advantage of the lackluster break and that you were able to clear by the time you've got that I I. Well I. If we look back at the race really there was only one. One speed horse in and teeth the law and I knew he was not wanna go to delete or you know that's not the way they they actually wanted them to you know and listened to Berkeley and and and prior to that you know the just like to suck somebody and so on. And other words Park elope is I thought he probably go to the lead and and I was willing to let him go if you wanted to do obviously when we pass it pass the wire for the first time in and see him and he wasn't going to delete it. So that was my turn you know to. Okay. Let me go ahead and do what Mars you want to do. You always talk to us here on the network about playing you leave the paddock with plans a to Z with a horse like authentic. There's really not much and you know you know he's GonNa break a little slow at least you did he's not going to break that sharp. You're going to be on the lead I'm sure after you watch the Haskell. You. Likely. Did you have some concerns about the mile and a quarter after watching the Haskell? We always have it. You know and and. Talking to by he, he's just like you know what I think I haven't much ready this time know for going on quarter. We always had a question whether he can't go out on any tips like, but you you you bob. You have to carry the source now he goes to putting the pressure. And he says that when you get to the stretch I, want you to to get you let handed ready for this. Okay. Make sure you get you get his attention and I mean to territory worked out. Perfect. You know talking about we planning with we were just rubies. Have dinner like three, nine, five bike and we keep talking about it. Then it's like you'll make sure you haven't left hand to you know get attention and if you look back from the house cold to the Derby, Mike, Never hit him though Mike he just GonNa kick. Showing the weapon and kind of top him this time you know I got the. Price Him and he responded right away i. that was the difference dry. They're actually afterwards Bob said to me if he makes had hidden his left handed in this house. You would never be on him on the Derby because I don't think he would have got off of them. You know what I mean, and that's why they thought. It was that he might not want to go the distance and. He's a little quirky so he kinda gets distracted very very, very easily and he looked he looked like he was GonNa win easy and and the has over. So it kind of you know the other horses going back to him so. If he had, he had a ham handed I think he would have gone on and You would have been in these stories. So I'm glad he did. Now Three Kentucky Derby wins that that is rarefied Air Bob said after the race when he wants six, it never gets old, you feel the same way. Absolutely. You know. They ask me that the obviously when month derby ends like if it gets old you into something else go and retire and something now absolutely that that feeling that you get. The satisfaction you get, it's incredible. There's just no worse due to this drive it you know and I mean if you get up to to be in this kind of thing, Menendez GonNa. Racist It's incredible. It's just no words to describe it. You know. Got To be. Blessed.

Celtics' young core heads back to East finals

"The Oh we lost to eat at. He's enough of us. There was a period think bruce off the tweeted at the raptors gave up a fifteen to two period to the celtics thirteen to zero period to the Celtics. If they're doing that I mean you're giving up twenty two points over any sort of period of this game. It's just very hard to stay in touch and the fact that the representing close enough to win is pretty remarkable. Really so I think we all knew that raptors weren't going to get blown out in this game. We're going to scrap for everything but the Celtics just had better defense I mean their defense I thought tonight was very fast. And on the offensive end, I mean, they end up a little bit there in the last couple of minutes the Celtics they couldn't quite get the shots I was looking for in the baskets trying to get but. Overall, their defense I mean the Raptors Ham, any tough contested shots did the raptors have to take and might a few they did make a few but overall that was the thing I think Boston's defensive just to go to and Pascal this series just had to win for him anyway to not.

Stevie Parle Shares His Spaghetti And Clam Recipe

"I am Stevie Paul. I have a few restaurants rather than a couple of restaurants style. A pop-up could joy in west London and I wanted to tell you how to make spaghetti with clams. This is my favorite thing to we think. So so my kids type thing to. The most of the people you cook it for think you'll really some kind of genius when you make it and yet it's incredibly simple. Clemson Volaille obviously is a cool mentally have unbelievable flavor. The juice comes out of clam is just tastes out of this world. Very easy to make you need. Spaghetti doesn't need to be a fresh dried past united of standard. Supermarket blue-and-yellow packet round is fine. It really is fine. But if you see a slow a dried has to take a longer amount of time to cook I always think that's good into look at actually how long it takes cook it from the pack is says your Spaghetti takes like fourteen minutes but something bad instead of ten or eleven it's a nice big spaghetti by the Nice Hodge wieght and it takes time to cook, but it's going to be chewing delicious. Anyway you need spaghetti. Hasley, dry Chili, white wine, and unique clams. Really a peasant can he love clams but equally, if you make has to climbs with like ten clams lesson than that is absolutely delicious and the juice they create makes much wonderful sociopathic. So festival, you're GONNA have everything ready for this dish because once you making it, you gotta move kind of fast. So let's save a gonNA. Do that you people you need a couple of hundred grams of Spaghetti. You need a big hand full of Nice. Salted Wilshire associates the see. Boiling rapidly, you need to finally up to cloves garlic your time you're doing this trying shook the evenly and small, and you need a handful of parsley flatly parsley leaves pig from the studios. Again shops when I'm joking Parsley, why do is I kinda scrunch up into a bowl and then again big shove knife and so slice through scrunched up all of Parsley as finally as I can and then go through it again once at done that in judge Moore says really fine many needle clams anything from ten to betty offense they come in different sizes it kind of normal Palo plans again, this country really good. I. Tend to choose the smaller ones just because the big ones could be a little bit cheery and be not nice. And why do I washed clams under running Warta just to make sure that not gritty. Swish Moore around, and then if they open while washing them, you can throw those ones. Sometimes they it's like only salmon them in those the you get rid off, but they should just be tidy shot Monday, running water and Swish around in a single appeal something for a few minutes just to get them nice and clean 'cause it's a bit disappointing when you you're clams and you get a bit of sand I mean he's not the end of the world who have made you sick. It's just wants tweets and so you've got your big kind of woods boiling. You've got your garlic party jobs. You got some dried chili like crushed dried chili nice specific one just. Don't want it to be crazy hall. So if it's a kind of mild crush drudge chilly but we Quarter, teaspoon of something. And you got your clements watched and then you need a wide hand with a LID. If you have a big frying pan on a lead that fits on that side and my spine has it sometimes, you can use another one use a play or something that's ideal whose what you're GonNa do is you're gonNA. Steam the rams, and if you have the more piled on each other, they will open bat the juice from. The clams and the one which didn't mention you need a couplet glasses of white wine just dry white one needs to reduce. So if you've got the mobile pilot up in a small pan that juice one, Medusa wine and clam juice and oil anyway create the right kind of emotion fear. peste. Does funny because hardly any ingredients is nothing really technically but do but just got to pay attention to the details of can make. something. That is just unbelievably good. So you big votes spoiling your wide hand is now you're gonna put it on the heat and get aw- and you the pastor infest. So this recipe once you've got that stuff prepared it takes less time than takes Cook Pastor. So you can drop the spaghetti into the boiling water if your pan on some olive oil in the Pan and at the garlic and then just when that garlic. In, just a few seconds isn't good glove of olive oil by the way don't be shy it's a few titles swings and then he'd put garlic in just really starts frizzell before it's cooked too much anything you. But in a little pinch of Dr, Chilean you the clams straightway. Why normally then do is tad tossed them around said they get cut sit in this garlicky chilly thing on once clams get hot than they. Have Been. Put in the white wine, a big loss of two hundred Mil something like that, and then put the lid on straightway. A met should be lecturing around and steaming you pestis public been bullying this point for like three minutes and remember it takes ten twelve or something depending on the grand. Pasta. So you pass this boiling. You're Clemson's steaming. You'll Hasley chopped and you just wait a second. I but you just gotTa wait now in drink a bit of your white one and then when you pastor is three-quarters cooks your clams of probably open dictate the lid off the clam ham and then drain your pastor even though it's quite ready look in your clam hand, it should be nice and juicy but really cooking thing you pay attention because if you've got a massive pan and it was really really Hard and you wind might have completely reduced down by now. But if it's a small pan may not have reduced enough year, you wanted to be a good layer of Jews. But you don't want it to be ruled tree and as it reduces what happens is the olive oil, a most us in that mixture, and then you take the pastor drained it. We've just pulled out the with have tongues coming. And even though he's not quite could you into the clam on any says enough liquid that it looks juicy in statement good already that's fine. Otherwise put in a little bit of past awards. Back on so that the pastor is cooking in the CLEM. Pan Important that

Trump reportedly called service members "losers" and "suckers"

"Again in the Atlantic and it sets the scene all the way back in two thousand eighteen when trump was in. Paris he was supposed to visit a cemetery for soldiers who died in war and if you'll remember he didn't actually end up going because he said the helicopter couldn't fly because it was raining. And there was a big deal about that obviously because he was afraid of a little rain. He also tried to claim that the secret service wouldn't drive but Jeffrey Goldberg says neither claim was true. In reality he says trump rejected the idea of visit because he feared his hair would become disheveled in the rain and because he did not believe it was important honor American war dead in that is according to four people with firsthand knowledge of discussion that day. He goes on to say in a conversation with senior staff members on the morning of the scheduled visit. Trump said quote why should I go to that cemetery? It's filled with losers. It continues in a separate conversation on the same trip trump referred to more than eighteen hundred marines who lost their lives at Bellawood as quote suckers for getting killed. Bellawood was apparently consequential battle in American history I don't remember it off the top of my head, but I'm just reading what's in the article here. And it says that in that same trip talking about world war. One trump asked who are the good guys in this war? He also said that he didn't understand why the United States would intervene on the side of the allies. Now you'll remember he said this about John McCain back in two thousand fifteen but lost. So I, never liked him as much after that because I don't like interest. But but Frank Franklin. We get to He. He's war hero. He's a war. He's a war hero presumes capture. I like people that weren't captured. Okay. I hate to. The article says that trump had remained fixated on McCain in that when he died back in August twenty, eighteen trump told his senior staff this time according to three sources with direct knowledge of quote we going to support that losers funeral end quote and that he became furious when he saw flags lowered to half-staff saying quote what the F. Are we doing that for guy was a f Ing Loser The White House denies this whole report by the way saying, then the Anti Yadda trump's supported the military more than any president. The article continues according to sources with knowledge of the president's views. He seems to genuinely not understand why Americans treat former prisoners of war with respect. Nor does he understand why pilots who are shot down in combat are honored by the military on at least two occasions since becoming president according to three sources with direct knowledge of his views trump referred to former president George h.w Bush as a quote loser for being shot down by the Japanese. This is where it starts to really get cruel on memorial day twenty, seventeen trump went with then department of Homeland Security Secretary John, Kelly to Arlington Cemetery. The article says the two men were set to visit section sixty, the fourteen acre area of the cemetery that it is burial ground for those killed in America's most recent wars. Kelly son Robert is buried in section sixty according to sources with knowledge of this visit trump while standing by Robert Kelly's grave turned directly to John Kelly in said quote I don't get it what was in it for them. Kelly said he originally thought trump was making a ham handed reference to these selflessness of America's all volunteer force. But later he came to realize that trump simply does not understand non transactional life choices. This is coming from one of Kelly's friends who Goldberg says a retired four. Star General. This friend says quote he can't fathom the idea of doing something for someone other than himself. He just thinks that anyone who does anything when there's no direct personal gain to be had is a sucker. There's no money in serving the nation trump can't imagine anyone else's pain. That's why he would say this to the father of a fallen marine on Memorial Day in the cemetery where he's buried. It goes on to talk about how trump is basically used the military as props how he thinks they answer only to not the constitution as evidenced by his gassing of peaceful protesters in officer who had firsthand knowledge of trump's views says quote. He has a lot of fear. He doesn't see the heroism in fighting and then Goldberg says several observers told me that trump is deeply anxious about dying or being disfigured in this worry manifests itself as disgust for those who have suffered. Than it tells another story about how trump falsely claimed he called quote virtually all of the family members of service members who had died during his term, and then when family started speaking out and saying, no, you didn't trump had to begin rush shipping condolences to those families. Felt last paragraph ends on, which is actually pretty profound. I didn't expect you know something. So big to be saved for the end I thought would be the author's own thoughts but it says in a twenty eighteen White House planning meeting for such an event trump asked to staff not to include wounded veterans on grounds that spectators would feel uncomfortable in the presence of amputees quote nobody wants to see that end quote. I think to me the details really do add credibility and he says he's talking to three or four sources all the time. But it got really interesting here when the Associated Press confirmed his sources essentially this tweet from James Laporta an investigative reporter former marine infantryman. Now, obviously, with the Associated Press, the port a tweeted out yesterday a senior Defense Department official I just spoke with confirmed this story by Jeffrey. Goldberg in its entirety especially the graphs about late senator, John McCain and former Marine General John Kelly president. Donald Trump's former chief of staff. So before that, you had people trying to push out, wouldn't say this. Of course, he didn't say this this is false. Trump. Himself devoted three tweets to claiming that was just a hoax made up by the media who are hungry to You know and his political career. But yeah, that was definitely a big shock when she came out in essentially confirmed most of the story. Republicans are doing their usual remaining silent or denying that it's still true. and. I just don't know how you could say it's not true. He said this in public but. I never liked him as much after that because I don't like. It was right out there and this other tweet from just some random twitter account but it made me think the commander in chief was found guilty stealing money from kids. Cancer charity mocks disabled reporters, gases, protesters for photo ops over twenty thousand lies kills one hundred, ninety, thousand Americans violate civil rights, incites violence calls, fallen soldiers, losers, and suckers. Yeah I guess if you put it against everything, we know about trump name calling certainly seems to be in his wheelhouse. Mentioned surprised that this came to be a big story

Disability and Diet Culture with Rebekah Taussig

"So tell me about your relationship with food growing up. Well, I grew up in a family of six kids. I'm the youngest of six kids and the three girls in our family, and some of my earliest memories with food would be sitting around the dinner table. We were always forced to finish everything on our plate that was kind of one of the rules and I was always the last one to leave. It would take me forever because I hated canned fruit and HAM and. I hated actually I really doesn't like a lot of the food that we eat growing up, but I would always be the last wanNA delete the table. So my dad would read a page of a book to me in that I'd have to take another bite in the needed read another page I've had to take another right do that for like an hour and a half so I think my earliest association in. In that sense was less about enjoyment or less about hunger. Neither of those things really factor in it was more like fitting into family structure and that make sense. There's like six of us right and so it was sort of necessity I. think this is our eating time and we ended early tight budget. So Ma made this food for US tonight dad paid burden was like now time to eat. So those are. Really early memories but I think in terms of like developing my larger ideas about eating and how it connected to my body developed a little bit later, surrounding a lot of my mom's ideas about filming entity and what it means to be beautiful and a lot of that was wrapped up in fitness and being really small and being a frail. So she wake up like hearing all of these stories about how tiny. She was in her youth in even as our mother like a lot of stories about her doctors commenting in how thin she was, and she would say all the time. She would say things about how she just doesn't think about food and we would know that she would forget and I say forget in quotes because I'm not really sure what that means to forget to eat that doesn't seem like very human, right? But she would forget to eat and so there was just a lot of obsession or focus on being really small and thin and having people commenting on her body in hurry telling that to US ally and to this day I'm not sure that she's even aware that that's a thing that she did or does it just seem so ingrained in scientists constant stream of narration. So and the youngest and my two older sisters and so I always felt like they kind of fit in line with her desires and expectations or what her girls would be, which is very tiny and small and I too frail and I didn't fit into that and started to notice that right around adolescents like. Middle. School I never forgot to eat like that. We can never going to happen to me I loved always have loved loved loved eating and adolescence I was growing and so I had kind of this an ending appetite and I can remember coming home from school and like I think there was a good month when I would make myself an entire casserole dish of custard and just eat the whole thing and when I got home I was just like that was my tree to end and I was starving when I got home and I would just completely divan so I started to grow quite a bit and I think that was when I started to grow a notice that my Body was just rounder softer than my sisters and then of course, right around that time body, our bodies were attached to male desire. So like you're small, you need to be small and petite and frail to attract male attention, and that was very important. Now, able in, you know the subtle ways that you learn those messages both at home but in every other stories

A Conversation With Massachusetts Senator Ed Markey

"Ed Markey thank you so much for being on Latino rebels radio. Well, thanks for having me on polio. This is a great honor for me. You know can I just tell you this story before we start I actually met you very briefly at the Kelly's roast beef and you're actually they're ordering Kelly's roast beef in your congressman at the time and I said Hello I just that was just the first time I met you so so so here we are getting your on my show. You're in the middle of a contested race at I never thought that this this primary has become sort of a national story senator and I wanted to talk to you about. I. Think. A community that gets ignored a lot in in Massachusetts is the Latino community. And can you talk to me about your history with the Latino community I in Massachusetts and I don't think a lot of people know this. But I've I've talked to a lot of your supporters who are Latino elected officials who have told me about some of your roots can you just start with that? Yeah. Well, thank you for. The question and I actually eight, some stuff from Kelly's roast beefs afternoon. So you so you you know you you're on to me I love it. I love it. Yeah. Yeah. I I have confirmed that you are a fan of Kelly's. Are Continuing the tradition. So that's funny. Continue Center. So well, thank you. Well, you know I can begin with the work done for. Puerto Rico. In the wake of the of the of the hurricanes earthquakes that continues to ravage the island I worked very hard. To make sure that the trump administration is made accountable I actually flew down to Puerto Rico with Elizabeth Warren to play an oversight role in ensuring that that they knew that destroying paper towels at the citizens of Puerto Rico was not going to be acceptable. So I I did that and then I had multiple summits. With the Puerto Rican community, in Massachusetts, so I could hear their concerns and continued to reflect that in my oversight responsibility has been, and by the way those meetings took place in Boston those meetings took place in Springfield, those meetings took place in holyoke. Those meetings to place in Worcester. So I try to listen to the concerns and in addition I will say that listening to concerns I voted against promise the I know that I can I tell you one thing about that part. So you know I I am a Puerto Rican journalist I I'm I'm in Massachusetts I've been in Massachusetts since the nineties when you said that I think a lot of people miss that point in the debate that you said that because Pro Mesa? Is Not a popular legislation in Puerto. Rico. But also in the Puerto Rican community in Massachusetts and I do want to talk about other communities in Massachusetts outside of the Puerto Rican community but but let's stick on Pro Mesa why did you not vote for promise? You went against your party I mean it was it was a bipartisan legislation President, Obama, signed it. But why did you? Why did you feel that you were against promise of back then and and then talk about how that has changed you know it seems like you're right. I think history has made it very clear that that was the correct boat and by the way. My opponents casts the the opposite vote on that. Issue my feeling was that that we had to absolutely anticipate that it could lead to a hollowing out of educational services, a public safety services services in general who we know now the University of. Puerto Rico is in trouble because of that vote and so I, listened to those who came in and lobbied me on the issue on both sides. And it was there was a divided view on it, but I came to the very clear conclusion that. Big Mistake. To vote for progressives. So I voted no and I think history has worn out especially post. cameras, and the hurricanes that there is an absolute crisis going on in of Puerto Rico. Even as this belt tightening from this something essential control board continues to ham auditory citizens. So I feel very good about that though I think my no vote. has been vindicated historically.

Interview With Barbara Kopple

"I, know I'm not alone this. I'm on record as naming Harlan, county USA, one of the best documentaries ever. Made I taught it and American dream once in a class on cinema verite. So Barbara Cop bullets genuinely thrilled to have you on film spotting. Thanks for coming on That's nice to hear. Thank you very much. Of course I was four when the events of desert one played out. So I guess I'll use that as my excuse but I, have to confess I really had no idea. Story was going to unfold when I started watching and the story I did get surprised me. So was that partly what drew you to this story that it's a mission that a lot of Americans may not be aware of or have forgotten about chosen to forget about Exactly, the history channel is GonNa do hundred feature found based on history that people really wouldn't know that much about And so does it one was one of them they ended up on these doing for five and so. We're rocky that we got to do this. and. I just love death because I just felt that desert one really is a story that needed to be if you know for me. Story of heroism, a reminder of the horrors of war and it also. It's so rennaissance today because it looks the roots of the conflict between the US and the Iranian government. And plus I just really wanted to do. Because the guys are so incredible, their their diet who'd never really got do and they went because they wanted to rescue fifty two hostages who had been you know taken by the Iranian students. So not knowing the story, I'll also confess I, assumed it was going to be a story of American triumph and in some ways it is you mentioned it is a tale of heroism. It's definitely a tale of great courage but it is a failed mission and the failed missions aren't the ones history typically remembers or wants to revisit. It sounds like that was also an angle that appealed to you. Yeah. from people have this motto had the guts to try. And From this. Ham. A lot of really incredible things like it's organization called the Special Operations, Warrior Foundation and also was really the first time that special forces wherever put together you know marine and navy and everybody in now special forces are together you know on different missions that they go and so it was the start of that. Thinking about desert one in relation to some of the other documentaries you've made the to mention. For example, you give a voice there to people who are often voiceless overlooked. I'm thinking of course of the of the miners and the meatpackers, and it's not the soldiers whose missions are unsuccessful as we touched on whose stories are typically told, but that's what you've done and so I'm curious if that was a conscious choice on your part or are you just naturally drawn to telling those kinds of stories and giving voice to those people? Yeah. That's what I love doing more than anything is. Really getting to know people that you narrowly. No are you have stereotypical feelings about and let them tell their story and let them think D- I've done two other films about the military one was. Found with the collective of people called winter soldier, which was about Vietnam veterans, telling stories about what happened in Vietnam, and then another one in two thousand and fifteen called shelter, which was about homeless veterans and a really wonderful friend of Mine Day of Marist. News did a lot of the singing and Harlan County USA was a homeless that and he was sorted the center of the film as we went to different places where they were homeless and he saying he told stories than it was quite

"Doctor. Conyers welcome to, milk. Thanks for having me I've never spoken to a rocket scientist especially one who can do a whole hog, but this is the first time for everything up. Let's start with your first time you barbecued a hog. Age Eleven you learn. I guess from your father among other people How did they do it? The first time I cook a whole hog. For and then we actually butchered and do we get ready to do to barbecue we? We butterflied open had a burger barrel and we had would ready to go and a burned embers down all night in. Kohl's throughout the cooking process until it was dud and my family came over to particular who? In Vermont they often use refrigerators for smoking, but you said that I think sometimes you take a refrigerator and take the top off and turn that into a barbecue pit, right? Yes. So we take the frigerator, take the installation refrigerator and we lay down horizontal. And within that frigerator, we will actually put racks just to cut a hole, two pieces of fence wire, and so those pieces a fence wire was sandwiched hall. When we flip it at the very end of the cooking process and we have a door, we'll cut another little door on basically wanted to side wall so we can put underneath the Hamson shoulders. So one hundred and thirty pound pigs in a take all day, right? Yeah. We we barely have anywhere from ten to thirteen or fourteen hours of cooking time with also is a function of the outdoor temperature. So the wintertime's nearly take a little bit longer to cook. And just sometimes, some animals are just a little stubborn. Alive, and dead. So. who gets to actually take the meat off the bone. Once you're finished cookies that a bunch of people show up to do that. Sometimes people will eat it off to within another time. We will bringing a whole hog in on a pan and into the house and we'll work it up like dat. At Up, we want to get all the bones and stuff out of like shoulder blades. hipbones the ribs could you wanna mix the long meet with the red meat and the show doesn't a hams because each those sections have different textures the different flavor. and. So when you hall you WanNa have a mixture land desk series of why I believe whole hog is the holy grail of barbecue because when you could like just a Boston butter pork shoulder is not the same experience. You said that cooking whole hog was a tradition that was getting lost and that's one reason you wanted to go start it up again. Why was there move away from whole hog cooking? Barbecue is being lost in my community because the of black farmers cook whole hog was gone away and as those farmers went away from the land so that the whole barbecue tradition. And what I realized was Donna I could really sita's tradition care for it in a really authentic way was. If I continued on in a way I was taught I mean I. I like a good steak like a good hambur. Good ribs but I think also for me cooking the whole animal was more is also about fellowship coming together. To me when I Cook Barbecue. Generally away to show a lot of love to the people we really cared a lot about. You talk about engineering because a scientists and cooking a whole hog. What is your engineering background help you with when it comes to cooking a pig. I was say the techniques I use cooking barbecue are- traditional, but what went to cook a whole cow about two years ago? I probably could've brute force it, but I said why not use an engineering approach to actually bid to handle maneuver lows of a whole cal See. If a five hundred pound cow, what did you do to be able to move it around probably about how we had a little when probably about three hundred and thirty pounds and that was plenty big enough. I'd never cooked the whole cow in my life but. I knew from Reading Literature Oh historic leave literature did a I would need to kinda rotate the cow not like a Rotisserie, but periodically through the cooking process. And so I wanted to be able to turn that animal with ease every three or four hours. It would almost attorney a finger. See

Pleasant like music not bad better than some of the recent songs she's released but nothing exciting or special about it but it was pleasant bad to say about it other than it just felt very average. But that's fine you know although is it fine. Almost would sometimes rather bad than average at least bad is memorable. You know what I mean. Can I get your field there? I do. At least you tried something. At least you performed outside of the box. She did not on this song. It's Very Katy. Perry vary over produced. It's very much her sound. Like you said it is pleasant. It's it's likable. It's okay it's not. It's not a hit or anything. No it's fine. It's just fun a hit and it's the first single off her album which is coming out this summer. Actually I was GonNa say you know what this song this one particular Katy. Perry Song was a flop. But I think it's held up very well has gotten better over time and gotten more respect overtime. That song. Yeah I know you're going to say that. Yeah no I like. I think she took such a radical departure from what she had done. That people just didn't accept it but I agree with you. I always really liked that song and even when it came out I didn't hate it so much so I don't know but it has aged pretty. Well Yeah I agree with you. It's finding an audience on Tick Tock. That song wouldn't that be interesting. If Tick Tock could make VAT song popular three and a half years later like it just popped up on radio again because it started to research now. That'd be interesting to see what happens all the time. Well it'd be interesting to see if radio starts putting some of these older songs in rotation because you'll see a lot of these I mean drake's a good example. The Drake Song is now huge. It's big on radio but that's an old song that twosies slide..

This is all colored by the whole frozen then reheating in like fifteen to twenty minutes because it was a little bit. Watery actually liked the sweetness of the beans. I wasn't sure what else was in there. Besides the beans and the sauce but there were other pieces of maybe meat was earlier on pieces of Ham. Ham in there. Okay that's the thing about honeybaked. Ham Ham threw out. There is there is a ham and the beans chunks ahead in the potatoes I get. I don't have Jones. Am in the beans and potatoes for real wile straight. I wonder if once I want I want to the Glendale Glendale honeybaked ham right near my trainer which maybe now this will be instead of my trainer. I'll just go to the honeybee. Tam Three dates man. I do enjoy the beans. I also don't think that these are that weird for sides. I guess I differ from you guys on that because like I remember like kind of a cheesier potato scallop potatoes would be more a Ham side with with Easter than like mashed. Potatoes sometimes mashed potatoes but that mashed potatoes is one hundred percent Thanksgiving or like Turkey dinner and then like it would be like yes cheesy potatoes. Commentators I gotta say fair with potatoes points. You're right these these are adjacent a scallop potatoes. I will say this. Why I- she's potatoes can never be cheesy enough to make them make them as cheesy as you want. I accept the cheese. I want the cheese I I like cheesy. I I like him. I like to take a cheesy but I will say that this this. I think it was that there was soon as cheese too much of this particular cheese sauce. Because it's not exactly it's not like it's a weird it's almost kind of Nacho economy. I it was just. It was just like a little too creamy of a cheese sauce. I didn't I didn't quite like the consistency of it. Yeah I liked him. I liked him but I'll say that wasn't my spoon man by tonight and neither was the neither where the beans the beans were. Good the beans are I. I love a Bush's baked beans and they're like kind of similar like maybe a little bit more. They were a little bit more sweet Right now that was the issue for me is that they were a little too sweet. I would've liked like I like I like. I love baked beans but I like them just a little bit more vinegary a little less brown sugar. Which is this loaded in there and this but I think I slightly prefer the beans to the potatoes. I would say what I what I associate more is less I guess lesbians. I think of Potato Wise Scalp potato sometimes but I'm more thinking like a potato salad because I think of like more of a picky sort of set up. You know what might be an issue web I saw in the back in my kitchen. Mick Jagger was back there oh no what was he doing? Wow intrigues and he was in charge of the beans so he must have put a lot of a lot of brown sugar. Yeah that's probably that's what that meant. You know what's weird? It's interesting how celebrities are dealing. We talked about it earlier. Celebrities are behaving very oddly with this current Cova crisis. I Guess Mick Jagger is now working at the Glendale California honeybaked ham store and I think too much brown sugar to the the beans. I sent her. How much are you putting? Their goes as much as I want. Mine kind of sounds like George Harrison. Lee Mc Jack. Come to your emotional rescue at hunter him. Good for him though. Give him back for him. Yeah that's as you guys. Can I ask you? Can I pull you guys real quick please? Was this detour worth. It took us this. Little Detour took on in this detour. Asking for confirmation of it making it more worth it. Yeah I'm with Kevin. Yes yes on both accounts. Wow that's very much worth that. Let's let's talk about the main event the HAM. Woo the main attraction. Here this is a they give you a big old hand. This is a big boy. Even the mini talking about the fucking Turkey versed or no. I guess we should not. Yes you know. We didn't get Turkey. But you've got Turkey so you tell your thoughts I'll say started. The Turkey was and I like Turkey. I'm I I enjoy Turkey. This Turkey is made very similar to the SIM. It's very similar to the HAM. And that is just coated with fucking the whatever the that the brown sugar glaze yes. It's super coated with it. But I don't think it's as tasty as the hand which is crazy for Mia Hamm skeptic but that should just take us right into the Ham yes it's the ham is good. It's what Bates. What built their chain Hammond? It's in the name honeybaked Ham. Why are you a ham skeptic? Mitch I just think of all the I mean like. I know a lot of people don't love Turkey but I think like if you make a big Turkey dinner. I think that the Turkey is good and I enjoy. I enjoy Turkey. I like a deep fried Turkey too. I like Turkey especially if it's moist and done well I enjoy Turkey Dinner Peyote. It's not so much you don't believe in him. You just believe in other things more I would rather have brisket. I would rather like ham is like when it comes to when it comes to sandwiches. I'm never that's never my protein in it and I never want to get like a Turkey sandwich because that's boring. Even though I eat that for lunch constantly like I just I. Ham is kind of like my last choice. I'll I'll get it like an Italian sub has ham mixed in there. And that's fine but if it's the main if it's if it's if it's the main ingredient I just I don't know I just. It's not a ham and cheese. No thank you you know what I mean. Yeah there's no fun to me it's just it's just boring. It's an unconventional take from the spoon man on this one. I think a lot of people really do like him. I think that probably anything ham is kind of a crowd pleaser at least on a sandwich for a as the Basic Deli meats. Go but I get but it's it's fine. I'm not I don't feel. I don't feel strongly enough about him to want to go isn't it? Isn't Ham Boring? No I think people would argue. Would argue. Turkey is Boring Ham. Turkey is boring and dry when I even though I like it a lot in practice but the way more interesting way more flavor there to me it aligns with it's the Easter of Deli meats. I think fucking boring. Damn wow it's quite a condemnation there now line all the other holidays that you don't like a good exercise what's Turkey then. Is Turkey Christmas? I think Turkey is Flag Day holiday. Let's see corn beef get Saint Patrick's Day sure come on right kind of one. They're Yasser I mean. Yeah all right. That's a good point. Brisket WOAH Briscoe. Halloween gets brisket. Ooh interested Halloween. What do you think of that? You don't like it wives. No I think it's fine. I'm curious I just want to keep. Please keep going you get you get your Christmas. You've got your you've got your New Year's Day you got your groundhog day. I have to do all these holidays. Do a couple more all right. Where does Tofu Gal? Tofu goes to Columbus Day though. Not Hannukah Gua Columbus Day given a very problematic day for Tofu. I don't like Tofu. I don't like Columbus Day. Wow Okay yeah fair. Enough vegans colonizers. What's what's what's what's what's marathon Monday. What is what is the actual. What's the what is the holiday? Emma help me out here. This is a Boston. Only holiday believe marathon Monday I forget what they call it but it's that Boston only.

"I already have nick a big Mac coins back back off putting backstory. Wasn't that funny. Wow what a drop we heard. Our guest is slapping his knee. Oh man great drop their from. Yeah no that was a great. Hey that was a great drop from Luke Court right. Who says really wish I was better at this. But here you go. Thanks for keeping on with the podcast on a global pandemic. I think a lot of US needed Luke Luke. I disagree but thank you for sending in the drop and I hope you're doing well. Wow Wow you know. Definitely thank you to luke court right for that drop and hey if you want to send him to drop it. Maybe got more time on your hands right now. Because you're you're stationed at home. You've got some audio engineering expertise. Spoon man gmail.com. You want to send one. Have you WANNA send them to drop? Just send an email to spoon man drops at gmail.com. Now you're gonNA look that up later in it. It's a part of the joke. I know we have a great guest with US joining remotely a writer and editor from the podcast inside voices and good Christian Fund which is right here on head. Gum Kevin Porter. Hi Kevin. Thanks for having me back friends. Oh my God. It's been too long because we have. We have repeat guests on. And this is your second time of the podcast and I looked it up. It was like I had Kevin on pretty recently twenty. Sixteen last time you had me on was also an election year. And what does that mean? Wow What does that portend? I don't know but it's been four years. It took a global pandemic to invite me back. I'm but I can get if we if we need a global pandemic for number three. Let's do it going to tell you. Yeah we got a lot. We got a lot of one and done. Some person comes on the show. They do their thing it stinks. They're never allowed back. I wouldn't say that about you know I do you know I am a listener of the show. I'm still a fan the shell and anytime there's someone on as a guest that makes Mitch. Nervous always says our guest today is actually good now like Shitty People. The does make me wonder was of course not. They're all they're all better than me. Are All of our guests is our guest. I truly don't like Cooperatively definitely assigned. Why Not yes the? Why are you making it real wider yet? There are actually. There are some that you don't actually some of playing along. I'm playing along. That's not playing along. I was playing along sanding. That's something he he learned that the institution thriving institution in us to educate people stay indoors. I learned a lesson of like as far as like high school or College. Yes like I've never been like Rah-rah I'm proud. It probably more high school in anything else but not even that but with a hey. I'm kind of proud that I like wine here. And I like this place and it's feels like you know a mistake. I should never have. I should never have had any pride in it. That's something don't take pride in anything. It's just going to ultimately be an albatross around your neck. We've I WANNA ask you Kevin. Yeah before we get too deep into Indian comedy a minutia and we're GONNA get into it my we're GONNA get deep. We're gotTa Talk Simon's impressions we're GonNA fucking Surena. Halpern me Kevin. Obviously we're we're in the midst of this cove nineteen pandemic and we were all locked down here in so cal. What have you been doing foodwise during this quarantine? Well everyone it feels like is making up the rules as we go as far as far as like. What's the most ethical responsible thing to do? Yes so at first. It seemed like go to your grocery stores. Get all the food you can. And then don't do anything ever again shifted to like. Oh well actually don't go to your grocery stores especially the first three days of the month because people would food stamps need again in there and they need better access so don't don't mess up for them and then it's become like support other businesses and get takeout but then that became well don't support chain businesses with takeout. Don't get don't get delivery from outback. Steakhouse do like local businesses. But then it's like well. You're putting a post mates guy in harm's way so for me. Just like navigating the kind of minefield of what is good and just right now. I have been cooking more at home. I am a big. We're not big by loved. I love to bake. I love baking cookies and bread. And and things like that. But when you're just baking for yourself there's a lot less motivation to make. Say a batch of two dozen cookies because there's nowhere for it to go. I can drive around and drop them off at people's houses but then even it's a fifty fifty if they would accept them or feel safe taking them so my baking has diminished significantly. But I've tried to like I feel like now is a nice opportunity to get better at dishes. I haven't tried before again two different rhythms of like for breakfast stuff. I've been making a little egg sandwich. Every morning like one of those nooks and crannies biscuits toasted with butter and a deep fried egg or not de frejus regular Friday piece of cheese on maybe a little bit avocado. That's a great breakfast treat. Sounds yeah or like even trying to fry potatoes. Finally just the way I like him. I I think I figured out exactly that a couple of days ago which was like some olive oil some butter garlic salt pepper red pepper and a little garlic powder on top of that. So I'm happy with the way those came out we got gone. Mitch Oh we got up. We got a little a little overlap. Wogs class last over plastic zoom overlap. Hanging on every podcast is a Robert Altman movie every single one. Still Boys Nashville. I I now you know what now I forgot. Oh no I forgot it. It's gone it's gone forever. You're about to say we just got. Oh we just got a an order to not go. We were told not to go to the Grocery Store yes this local county ordinance and I ran out of groceries yesterday. I was like what am I going to do? So I'm in. I'm in a spot where I get a for for. I mean today was covered because I just went and got the meal for our place today. But that'll cover you. I mean 'cause this is a that's a big meal that you got so that'll cover you for at least lunch and dinner. Yeah I my dinners are squared away. It's just basically breakfast. And all you piece of shit re bytes for you. Write a needling me. They're gonNA eat a whole. Hey I don't eat a whole ham in three bites isn't true. You call blocks of Ham Copies Kevin. Sorry Tumbler a lot. I think he put that stuff on it. I think more people should read it Kevin. Mcallister is more likely. You're as you want criminals. Do I do want criminals. Come in and try to me I am home along for the quarantine that but you got that train set and you got that Michael Jordan standing ready. But I'm an adult man so the Michael Jordan Standard is in rough shape having a Michael Jordan standing in a movie coming out in twenty twenty like the little Hitler Mustache doing like the Hanes ads or whatever the really shitty distressed genes apparently did candy crush now. Did you guys hear that? No Yeah God. Espn is putting out this. Big Michael Jordan documentary. I think they moved it up because it was already in the CAN. Yes and they have literally nothing else to talk about right now but I think he's addicted to like little video games on his phone. Wow I can see that I mean you know if you're naturally competitive. I could see that being a thing that you would gravitate towards and and want to be the best at I mean I a lot of. It's in it's in the can you said. Yeah. Maybe I'll watch it in the can currency life baby boy. You can walk as you can. Paul deliver specific is it. Now it's when our with quarantine it's you can pull your big screen into the bathroom and just sitting there all day if you WANNA yeah. There's no rules. It's chaos. I speaking of that Mitch. Your Roommate Shack. I remember on CRIBS. He had a TV in his bathroom. And that was the first time I was like. I didn't know you could do that. So when I leave the house of when I don't WanNa get robbed. I just tell shack I turn on the lights. I tell shock to stand in front of curtains so that people know. That's a very large.

"Folks we love our life. Aloma multifamily personal time with them. But it's going to be We don't go out. We don't do things like that. Represent the state of Louisiana so we were excited. How great is that? How perfect is that a ham sandwich and some ooh Dan now the chicken on a stick thing is when he was at Ole Miss? He said there was a gas station station. We're used to get chicken on a stick. which is if you're not from the south? The idea of going to a gas station eating chicken off his stick might seem repugnant. But if you're coach Oh it was on the list of possibilities last night right there with ham sandwich mood at but he said you know. We're simple folks. We love our life. They represent the State Louisiana and I am genuinely sincerely thrilled for him. After being the punchline said people make fun of the way I looked away I talk all you can do is salute demand for never change and being who he is and that it was good enough more than good enough to be what they were. This year the best team in college football I would love that if they played Ohio state. They didn't play Clemson to Dabo. Sweeney I would say this. I feel like handle himself with absolute class beginning during and after his team's one sixty nine out of seventy four games okay. They're the standard and college. Football Sixty nine and five their last seventy four games. They played in in four playoff finals. Four the last five years they bring back Lawrence they bring back the best recruiting class in the country. They're gonNA keep cooking and like they're going to continue to be there Lsu. I don't know if they can be the the the roads tougher. Se For sure the ACC. Just don't have as many many many obstacles. The CLEMSON has had. They've earned daboh talked about this year benefit of the doubt. They earned that now. Because that's what that program am. Is there the standard in college. Football Sixty nine and five five straight playoff appearances for the final. They lost the first time in thirty games and they lost vis historic team in New Orleans. Just weren't enough to keep up with Joe Borough so sometimes you just lose like Wynans hard when his heart in anything you know. Lamar Jackson has is one bad. Playoff game people all the guys on the sidelines. See See what you had a bad playoff game hard to win and Clemson has made us forget. Get how hard it is to win. And they lost the title on Monday night but they've been a great team for as I say the past five years congrats to LSU congressional coach. Oh congrats to break all the fine folks down there. I wish I had been there but New Orleans is tough town man. Big Cats still hung over Stanford Steve Who knows mcshea book and five fifty flights out of town. It takes me back to my golf channel days back to an. I didn't have a nickel I mean I'm talking about broke as a joke. No money none at all. I was staying at that hotel right at the end of. What is it poisonous at the Hilton? They're right there on the water. got that riverboat. One night. I decided I was going to. I was going to go do some gambling. I had that h needed feel felt so I got one hundred hundred bucks like I didn't have one hundred bucks. Okay but I got. I got one hundred out. Probably put the balance at zero and went down. I went to the Casino and I was GonNa play like some cards. Maybe I'd had a cocktail or two or eight. WHO's to say sat down at a table because the the the five dollar tables ten dollar tables? They're all booked up those twenty five dollar table and it was open so I sat down my hundred bucks nervous as hell probably incapacitated thanks plied with liquor and I sat down and I played twenty five dollar hand. When you're playing at a table by yourself hands go rather quickly? It went one two three four good morning good afternoon. Good night and get lost. Four hands lost one hundred bucks. I swear to God it happened in like you. You know how fast they deals including loose Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding Ding. They're good at math real good at math and they're also good at saying take take take four chips for green ships in the till stood up and I said back in when it was probably ninety eight ish. I don't know the the the joke was the joke work. Then I might happy might be in trouble now but I stood up and said should have got a hooker Payne Stewart. The late great was at another table. Didn't look up. Said what a lasted lasted about as long but And then I walked out walked back. What do you do now? I don't have any money. I have no money to get drinks. I've just lost my. Did you get a free drink while playing didn't get a drink. It didn't last long enough. It was over four hands so low. It's horrible that was the same week I might have told the story in the air during the I'm telling it again I I had been out again. The good part of this one night is that I I stumbled into a bar and I saw a band called the the flavor kings. They were funky not as good as soon as the rebirth brass band at the maple leaf which is a religious experience but the flavor aver kinks. I bought a CD. That's what used to do like or at least that's what I used to do when I was in New Orleans and then have the means to really take into the adventurous part of the evening. We'd go see a banned by a CD came back again. I don't want to give people the impression I had a drinking problem. But that's a town where you can have a problem and I was hungry. And so I opened up the opened up the cabinet to the MINIBAR and I got some cashews. I'm out of cashew eater but I was that night and I started eating me some cashews like this is a pretty good and then I took a look at the. What does it cost and I think it was like nine dollar cashews? FOR ARGUMENT'S SAKE SAKE. Whatever it was it was more than I thought I wanted to pay so again in a state of compromise? Sobriety I thought I'm not paying nine dollars cashews so I dumped the cashews out and I got a bunch of toilet paper and I wanted it up and I put it in the middle of the can that I thought would feel like an appropriate weight. Put the rest of the cashews back back on the top with the top on the cashiers. Thought I'll just put this back in the mini bar and they'll be none the wiser. I will not get nicked for that. Nine dollar cash. You can came. Came back from being out of the old Golf course used to be the Freeport. McDermott Freeport McMoran. It's been through many sponsors. Now it's a team event down there. No one cares. Come come back my hand to God. There's a there's a post it note on the cashews. Cashews are on the table and said Nice try so I lost a hundred our box. The table got got clip. Nine Bucks for cashews. But I got a flavor king. CD I wish I could find it pretty Falke. So that was Scott Remembers his time in New Orleans. I've had many many times since then. That went much better than that. Let's pivot now. Shall we kids to this Some news last week. Not Martin announcement of this podcast. which we're excited to do but the news that will be taking a show back to DC and say taking the show back to DC we've never been in DC? But I'm taking myself back to see I've been gone from there. Twenty five years left in ninety four to go down on the golf channel started. So it's been a minute as they say but I was at the emmys in New York City and saw Eric ride home. WHO's the executive producer Sir of the show? PTI and they were nominated for the best studio show and they want it that night. And as I sat in the theater something in my brain started rallying around and I thought you know what. Why couldn't I do the show out of that studio? I mean there's a bunch of shows done from New York City Lebatardshow in Miami Neil and stand and though the anchors mostly out in Los Angeles I mean you can produce things there and have the content driven. Here's it's not difficult but I mean I I don't know I have no idea what the what the issues are. I mean logistics all the rest and would there be any pushback internally and we had incredible conversations with the people that matter here a name that you would necessarily know I mean if you read follow media you know the name Jimmy Petar. WHO's our president? Got All the way to him. Couldn't have been it could have been more understanding of why and it's about family. It's about getting home moms. They're her sister my aunt. WHO's one eight to my mom incredibly close with me and my and my kids and and and friends and all the rest and for my wife? WHO's from Florida? It'll make it easier to get to them and for them to get to us at Cetera. We're just we're on an island up here and it's been it's been great but homes home man and as you've heard me say a million times everybody's from somewhere I'm from there and so the chance to get back home. Tom Was this idea and in order to find out. If the idea made sense I had to talk to my bosses but before I even talked to them I reached out to the folks from. PTI because it's not a a huge space. So I needed to know like Ken this work. Can I come down there and if I if I do disrupting your workflow in your space in the whole Ovalles that you've got because they've had cooking down there for years. The last thing I want to do is be in the way or a problem or anything inconvenient but there was just really really great feedback and really supportive feedback most importantly from one of the hosts of PTI who we could joke about guests. We couldn't get Tony. I don't know how much Tony does other podcasts. He's got his own but he was gracious. Gracious enough to stop by to talk with me about Movin back home and what I needed to know joining me and my very first podcast is Tony Kornheiser from Washington. DC hosted the Tony Kornheiser show host of the Emmy Award winning PTI and Tony were about to be bunk as we're about to be Office mate's of sorts. And I WANNA I want you to tell me the truth when I called you last man. I asked if this happened happened. Would I in any way inconvenience. You would meet parachuting into your workspace. Anyway be a problem in your. You said no but now that it's going to happen is is. Is that still well. The answer is not only is not a problem. It's a godsend for us. Know we're happy. I mean we. You know we're here pretty much alone in Washington I said. Well that's not true. I mean a lot of shows are produced in Washington but the physical making of the show is not necessarily in Washington. And we like you personally personally and and this is really good for us. Because we like the studios that we're in and then worse comes to worse every once in a while if Mike and tire out we'll just lean on you to be half of the PTI show in that'd be great. That's that's been that's agreed to. I said yes they said. Would you do that and I said by all means means because I did. I did the one episode and I was. It was so much fun and then I was hoping to do more but then I lived here and it was just it could have gone to do like. We've we've had people over the years. Look I think the strength of the show is when people sit together now when my can I sit apart it is still probably better than with two people sitting together. 'cause it's Mike showing my show and we know we know each other for forty years and we've you know we we understand that but you know Lebed used to do the show. And then he moved to Miami And Jason Whitlock used to do this show and any left town completely to work for another network work and we are sort of littered with people who we always liked but for one reason or another they could not get here and sit here Pablo did the show for a while. And then Pablo got his own show in New York so the notion that every once in a while you could sit with one of us would actually make us very happy and wait Oy and me as well and then the other part of course has to play golf right. Exactly it's your obligation to play with Mike and with me. Sure I understand you I you have a you have a pretty pretty good Rolodex of folks you play with so I look forward to that but I I wanna make certain of something though because I was told I called Kelleher.

"ZIPRECRUITER DOT com slash daily beans ziprecruiter the smartest way to hire all right welcome back so any McCabe everybody was talking on Friday. I must have gotten zillion tweets from a bunch of. Can you know trump supporting jerks that were like your boys going down. He's going to be indicted. Maybe darted and the they went on and there was no indictment and that was really interesting and people are now like law. Fair are thinking that perhaps the grand jury didn't return an indictment and that's it's really rare. It doesn't happen very often to reconvene for for them to not turn in an indictment when the prosecution acution the Department of Justice has recommended charges be filed for them to reconvene a not return an indictment yeah because the grand jury doesn't go by beyond a reasonable doubt they don't have that high of a bar they'd have probable cause which is a little bit less of a it's an it's not by preponderance of the evidence so it's not like fifty one forty nine but it's somewhere between that and like the the full beyond a reasonable doubt standard and so for them to not return when the prosecution line prosecution made a recommendation is very very that means he didn't do anything wrong. They don't have a case and it's. It's it's fascinating to me that we haven't heard this now. There are other explanations available like perhaps they've re convened a new grand jury and and so they have to be read in on all the information that could take some time but we haven't heard anything to that effect. That's not being reported so I really honestly think what's happening here because again. The indictment usually comes back the same day when somebody loses their appeal to not be charged which McCabe did according to the Department of Justice and and that's the other thing these announcements are coming out of the Department of Justice if time has passed since they last convened. Do you think that they have to bring them back to see if how many of them have become tainted it or something because they're supposed to be impartial right yeah well apparently the the grand jury hasn't convened. They haven't met for a few months because they've been on a month long hiatus and during that time there's been appeals you know on the behalf. McCabe trying to say don't charge me. I'm appealing these charges and but this is grand jury stuff this isn't what what we normally think of as a court of appeals but the DOJ has come back and usually when the DOJ comes back and says no then the grand jury reconvenes and they deliver an indictment and convenient but they didn't deliver an indictment and we know that two of the top line prosecutors left. This case went back to private practice. I don't understand why Jesse Salou hasn't resigned. I don't know what's going on with that. She's I've I've kind of always felt. She was a good a good guy but I don't know because if she was bringing winging the charges knowing that it's not a case that gets a winnable case that means she's corrupt and I I don't I or hate to believe that she he is but or she knows that just like you said that he didn't do anything wrong therefore he won't actually be indicted and she she's doing what she has to stay in that position because she is good. I know it's kind of like a do. It's almost like playing dirty for the right reasons which I imagine a lot of government. Officials are probably doing right now not all but some just enough to kind of stay in that position of power and influence without totally you know giving in to the agenda of the trump administration corrupt yeah. It's not your way. You're totally right about by definition is corrupt but I can see the gray area. There probably being for the rat hole fully for the right reasons. We still don't know I I tend to disagree. I think that if you are corrupt up to your fucking corrupt and that's it you can't have the rule of law and justice be You know one hundred percent for everybody. If you're even if you're doing get for what what are what are the reasons because you're right they would be the right reasons yeah yeah and if he doesn't get charged. I can see someone talking themselves out of like well. I didn't actually do it so i. I don't feel like the corrupt deed was done but you're saying just by even letting it go that far yeah if you're if you're Jessie Liu and the president is or the Department of Justice were bar or Rosen are pressuring you to indict someone in you know that that there's not a case there. You need to resign and you need to go public with it. that otherwise if you don't just like if you. I don't think that she would say and I don't think I hope nobody would ever do this that you know. I'll just let them have this. They won't win the case but I gotta stay here to protect other GAL. She would do what lose the battle to win the war that whole thing yeah. I can see it applying but maybe not not in this case. Maybe just in general. I can see someone in the government plying it so that's where I'm coming from but you're right right by definition. Corruption is corruption but you know people are people. I just don't think that that happened. I personally don't think that happened being a government employee. I don't think that happens in the government. Yeah I think government at least people who operate ethically in the government would go to that level of corruption just to stay in their position to shield from other corruption you you leave and you okay sure sure yeah. I agree to disagree. I can see that the both things being correct yeah totally but you're right. Those would be the right reasons a little moron cavanaugh I wanted to talk about. We still don't know who owns him and this is weird. I wanted to bring this back around because I I remember in two thousand six and Greg earlier just did a a threat on this. He's going to be joining us in Boston. On November. Seventh by the way that Kavanagh's bought a house for like one point two million dollars they apparently put two hundred and fifty thousand dollars down but it doesn't appear that that two hundred fifty thousand dollars doesn't appear in any of US financial records and his financial disclosures show a net worth of ninety one thousand dollars the mortgage payments were more when he took home after taxes and within a year of buying a house to family was deep in debt about a million dollars in credit card debt and I think that that could be connected to a possible gambling bling problem of with cavenaugh where in order to pay off high level bookies he would have to I don't know do something like purchase nationals season tickets and then get the cash from a friend and put it on his credit card so that basically he can get large chunk of cash upfront without without having to pay that huge percentage rate for cash advances on credit cards or getting alone because apparently he didn't have any money or collateral just his house house which was also mysteriously paid off and then of course we have that video of trump saying something to justice. Kennedy and Kennedy getting visibly mad shook he was shook us and then cavenaugh replaced Kennedy by the way and we know Kennedy son worked for Deutsche Bank and it's obvious trump is doing everything he can to block Congress from getting Deutsche Bank records and then there was that reporting from Lawrence O'Donnell that that trump forced him to retract which he kind of did that Russians co-signed Deutsche Bank enclosed for trump so deal was made here and and it had to be cavanaugh because otherwise there's no way any would would face the problems of of having a nominee lake cavanaugh and still shove him through. They're not like old buddies or anything right. There's no other connection. I think you're totally right zero. It's just so fishy I I don't. I don't like it. No Sir no sir actually it's Promo Ren and stimpy quote all right so Chris Collins remember this guy here. He appeared in court this Thursday. This is a Republican congressman is facing felony charges for insider trading he's accused of passing an insider tip about a failed drug a EH company that he sits on the board for to his son who then passed it onto his girlfriend's. Dad and Collins Attorney says he's still considering appealing. The judge's recent decision to reject acted defenses request to see more evidence. He's asking for more evidence because Collins believes it might prove that his constitutional rights were violated specifically his speech and debate the debate rights which protects against Congress people actions of Congress people while they're at work so basically saying I'm allowed to insider trade if I'm Congress if I'm at Congress jobbing what he's trying to make sense and speech eighteen debate clouds. I can break the law. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if that holds up right free speech and free to be yeah if if you rob a bank while in Congress come on on don't violate my speech and debate bank robbing yeah you probably paid a per diem for as long as you stay at the trump hotel all of course a Susan Collins has not decided if he's going to run again although he told reporters outside the courthouse. I will tell you that if I do run. I'm very confident I will win. Pulling says right now I would win a primary in a landslide and he says he'll make his decision by the end of the year. I think like the song land slammed by Dixie chicks more like that like different kinds of landslides so sad breakup I if we would Mac but yeah. Oh Yeah Dude he could sell a ham sandwich to a homeless person. Wait was the dixie chicks cover verret fleetwood Mac. Is that what it was. Yeah okay well. There we go. Oh wasn't that they did it. "ZIPRECRUITER DOT com slash daily beans ziprecruiter the smartest way to hire all right welcome back so any McCabe. Everybody was talking on Friday. I must have gotten a Zillion tweets from a bunch of uh-huh. You know trump supporting jerks that were like your boys going down. Do you think that they have to bring them back to see how many of them have become tainted it or something because they're supposed to be impartial right yeah well apparently the the grand jury hasn't convened. She was a good a good guy but I don't know because if she was bringing winging the charges knowing that it's not a case that is that's a winnable case that means she's corrupt and I I don't I or hate to believe that she he is but or she knows that just like you said that he didn't do anything wrong therefore he won't actually be indicted and she she's doing what she has to stay in that position because she is good. I know it's kind of like a do. It's almost like playing dirty for the right reasons which I imagine a lot of government. Officials are probably doing right now not all but some just enough to kind of stay in that position of power and influence without totally you know giving in to the agenda of the trump administration so corrupt yeah. It's not your way. You're totally right about by definition is corrupt but I can see the gray area. There probably being hopeful for the right reasons. I don't think that happens in the government woman. I think government at least people who operate ethically in the government would go to that level of corruption just to stay in their position to shield from other corruption you you leave and you okay sure sure yeah. Maybe if you're not into this but the New York Times reported that if you're out into whenever you're not into sexual assault felt because we all really for it. We're super positive about it anyway. I just wanted to give you a content warning but the New York Times reported Saturday that this latest allegation allegation which has not been made public until now was reported to the FBI during Kavanagh's confirmation process but it was not investigated according to the report a man named Max Style says that he witnessed cavenaugh exposed himself at a party in front of a bunch of people enforce his genitals into the hand of female student without her consent. You'll remember during his confirmation that the president authorized the FBI to investigate any allegations remember that investigation. I'm doing air quotes but he put like extreme limits on it. He's like you can only interview the people you've already talked to and you can't interview anyone Nelson. It has to be done in a week. Remember you remember that whole thing. It was bullshit. Yeah I remember number. You're like I remember and it it. It lasted seriously. I think he put a time limit on it. I think they'll be able to prove it. I'm just curious. Yes which podcast is going to go for. The Cavanaugh exposed headline tomorrow. I'm thinking maybe today explained. They went for Bolton Bolton or whatever you know the pun. It's an easy pun. He exposed himself. He put it in the palm of her hand like it was the world like he just thought so highly like allstate insurance. Yeah I mean it just shows narcissism to the the highest degree. I just yeah. I think it's really easy to go for Cavenaugh Expos. We probably shouldn't do it because I think we should do. You think so okay well. We'll see who else will do it. Then yeah we will not be the only one that's for sure all right time for a little Schadenfreude Schadenfreude as no oh. I do not know what Sean Fraud Is. Please tell me because I'm dying to know Jam Cam for Shameful Gye all right. This is awesome Qaluti Rudy. He is getting a divorce and apparently ugly and there's a time a Times piece by Sarah Matt. Dan Rudy Rudy married this lady Judith Nathan after cheating on his wife back in two thousand Rudy and Judy Judy your team's Julia Gulia so anyway that was like back in two thousand it was before nine eleven happened and they kind of presided over that whole thing together and despite the judge's advice vice to handle the divorce privately the couple going public and the trial is set for January but it seems like the divorce I think I feel like it's over so I don't know what's happening in January. I guess they're just doing to trial for it but there's contentions. I guess in the divorce but it looks like it's all about money. Apparently Judy is a alleging rudy avoided alimony payments quitting his job at the law firm in working for trump for free so when he brags about working for trump for free. It's so that it doesn't have to pay for these future rally money payments probably he currently gives his wife forty two thousand dollars a month as ordered by a court this past February. I love your face released. It was like a gift like the guy that blinks. She's just a consultant to Mr. Giuliani was brought into close some deals because quote she can talk a bum into buying a ham sandwich. Okay waiting for your a couple of things here. I just wanted to tell you about the ham sandwich. She calling rudy a bomb in her cell or her Mama. Ham Sandwich was happening like she's saying that her mom is such a good business woman she could talk a bum into buying a ham sandwich. We're cool all right Jordan yeah. I'm with you. the only thing I would think of bum would need to buy a ham sandwich would be money in which case they're saying. I'd like to sell you in Brooklyn. That's that's an old saying. I've never heard I am such astute business. I have such great business acumen in that I could talk a bum into buying a ham sandwich. That just doesn't seem hard to me yeah. The whole thing is strange but that's definitely the standout moment there ingrates. Maybe there's something about like. Maybe there's more orvin nuance to what she was saying that we don't understand. I don't think so though what I David maybe it's sad sarcasm. Yeah maybe as literal. Maybe that is the business arrangement. Maybe it's some kind of sandwich thing that this I'm just curious about the details going on a subway franchise. Oh Yeah Yeah there you go so I can see that foot long. I see the references coming now the puns or just yeah back kind of sandwich all right guys who says bomb anymore. I know yes so not twenty nineteen. No that's not as something look by me when I'm like when I feel like I'm not dressed my best but now that I say it out loud and into a Mike. I feel bad happens so Giuliani says of the divorce. This is so funny I I'm excited about your response to this quote as well. Giuliani Juliana says quote when you do what I do and this could I speak for most public office people or in demanding jobs. I'm quoting you compartmentalize. Believe it or not in a strange inge way. You might even do better because you concentrate harder. There's a great opera Paglia Chee. He finds out he has a much younger wife. He doesn't he doesn't find out he has a much younger but this is just how rudy says it. He finds out he has a much younger wife and he sees her kissing another man. He says I've got to go out and laugh and my heart is breaking but this is the job I have to do then. He gives a great performance then he kills his wife but I wouldn't do that. What what to me repeat that now I under I heard I was GONNA say understand but that would be a false statement. I heard that let's so where does he get. You know you have this like well of references in your brain what the fuck has. Giuliani consumed over the course of his life. They talk about this in the article too because they live this lavish lifestyle. They had New York Knicks tickets. They had Yankees tickets. They had opera box seats. They went to the opera a lot apparently and so that those are some of the main things he did but he he talking about this opera where the guy kills as much younger wife If. Giuliani is seriously like a vampire that the vampire clan was just like you know what you just just take this money and go just go live your life because we don't want you on. Correo and he's just living this fucking cool life in the waking world with the rest of us and he's such a fucking troll. He's been Dan Instrument. The Vampire is the fourth one pay him to go. Just go away. Orange Gary Glitter around with say can just throw glitter on his tournament a sparkly. I feel like in my brain. I literally only imagined him with pointy. Not In that is that is like a nose for ought to know why Oh my God what an idiot also what what a person finds like his exploits to be sexually appealing in any way whatsoever we'll for because I believe they are having a fair and I know unfortunately so so many Douche bags and professional douche bags and they're all fucking each other. That's really unfair to say it at a certain level. That's just such a part of the culture because it's it's all it's all about power and if you have an affair that's like a power rise that you get into tabbing all the time so he one hundred percent is lying well. She could sell ham sandwich to a homeless person. I think inches high I still think that but I will say that I saw a picture of of Rudy's wife when he's getting divorced with and she looks very attractive and I guess it just boils down. It's like you said the power thing like. Maybe there's there's opportunity there because really it's just the most and this is getting you know. I'm shaming rudy but he's just one of the creepiest looking guys in the world and she looks very very happy and healthy and like outcasts. It can't be many other qualities besides powering you know what to each their own. You know like no no shame towards mostly. You've you've seen a frigging. Steve Mnuchin and his wife somebody married down right right and we know who I could see someone liking. Steve Really someone's Jordan guys is in case. You're wondering if you look at the State is cowards about you'll notice a pattern mnuchin their own dark-haired dirty ones right yeah Joe Walsh and their the Silver Fox now. You just looks like he got a nerdy appeal deals. Ellsworth money yeah yeah. I can see that your your boyfriend's nerdy looking and it gives way really attraction to like nerds for sure. There's a dude at We were sitting my friend. Sonia and I were having lunch somewhere and there was a hot older gentleman there and she my friend. Sonia kept talking about this Silver Fox. Oh my gosh the Silver Fox and then we leave the restaurant and we're walking on the street and she grabs my arm goes. Ag Book Look a Tripod uh-huh tripod and I I thought she was talking about the Silver Fox again and I was like how do you even know how sticky and she's like no and then all of a sudden out out from behind a car comes a three legged Greyhound Oh and so.

Not In that is that is not for ought to know why Oh my God what an idiot also what what a person finds like his exploits to be sexually appealing in any way whatsoever we'll for because I believe they are having a fair and I know unfortunately so so many Douche bags and professional douche bags and they're all fucking each other. You're wondering if you look at the State is cowards about you'll notice a pattern mnuchin their own dark-haired dirty ones right yeah Joe Walsh and their the Silver Fox I duNno. It just looks like he got a nerdy appeal deals. Ellsworth money yeah yeah I can see that your your boyfriend's nerdy looking and it gives way really attraction to like nerds for sure. Ag Book Look a Tripod a tripod and I I thought she was talking about the Silver Fox again and I was like how do you even know how sticky and she's like no and then all of a sudden out out from behind a car comes a three legged Greyhound Oh and so.

We had a really great weekend. The live show was great. Jennifer Cohn was great. I do want to note. Maybe you were even going to say this but Washington actually already does paper ballots but what I heard from our fans at the meeting greed. Is that the they appreciate it the hand stamped or what is it yeah. That part of the discussion was especially important to them but they were like yeah. We're doing you know so the rest of the world's going to hear this and be like Oh cool. We should due paper ballots in Washington. They're on it yeah but you shouldn't say paper ballots. You shouldn't call them that. You should call them hand marked paper ballots because that's the difference you can hack a paper ballot. You can't hack the hand-marked paper ballot and they're trying to do that by passing the barcode on them and so you know like she was talking about Barcode so you don't know who you voted for and even if they do print it next to it people voters. They showed that they don't read that but yeah just check out the show. It comes out tonight but thank you for that because I didn't know that they had had marked paper ballots here in Washington. That's the great but this is such a cool town. I'm having such a good time what last night L. and well unless you're a patriot. Oh I was was just informed about time and that its linear and that the episode will come out Sunday night which is last night. If you're listening to this not as a Patriot on Monday morning so back to the future you're welcome and our flux capacitor. It's around here somewhere anyway as I was saying. I really like this town. I've had nothing but often times here we went to oak restaurant and had our meet and greet. That was really fun. I enjoyed that yeah that restaurant is great and all the to one of our patrons owns it and he's done an amazing job of the place and they're so much cool art all around it too and the food is frigging amazing good drinks go check it out. Seattle lights if you don't go already yeah simple clean food and he's doing it sustainably at but he's not like bragging about it. He just does it because he's awesome and that's one of the cool things about our fans ends and the people of this community that we built everybody. We were talking about this last night. They're all super kind and they're all doing stuff in the world to help other people and they're really committed added to that and I think that's really great so i. I'm having a good time here but we do have a lot of news to get to and so we will hit the hot notes hot notes notes so one of the big stories of the weekend broke late Friday night while we were onstage at the triple door four molar she wrote and it came in the form of a subpoena subpoena from Adam Schiff to the acting deny regarding an urgent whistleblower complaint that was supposed to have been handed over to the House intelligence committee. The Acting Director of national intelligence is a guy named Joseph Maguire You've never heard of them. That's probably by design if you remember Dan Coats stepped down on August fifteenth and while Sue Gordon was supposed to have taken his his place she left to and trump nominated a congressional rip radcliff member at that flamed out that crash and burn. He's a total tool. everyone was like he's not that qualify at first ratliff was like. I'm so honored to have this nomination and everyone's like you're not qualified for Shit and so then he withdrew his name so not not to mention that if you think about it anyone who tries to get a job at within the trump White House is like something gets exposed. Some massive scandal gets exposed about them like they do. Coke off of you know somebody's. I don't know they find something horribly massively scandal as and he was probably like I don't I want people looking into my life that much so rackliff left Gokova. Somebody's whatever sounds like a Tuesday on capitol. Hill sound scandalous to me at this point uncooked off of somebody's whatever far I think it's a bar on Capitol Hill. It's that and also it's a CNN the wolf of Wall Street so it is kind of relevant to the Mueller investigation and all those kind everything's pre owned by Jolo correct and the movie he snorts cocaine of a strippers. Whatever yeah there you go see it all makes sense to six degrees of Jolo all comes back to him or ice T. or dicaprio in some way way shape or form but anyway we're left with his guide Joseph Maguire and he was required to share the whistleblower complaint with Congressional Intel Committees within ten days as of getting it from the g. When I say the icy I G I mean the intelligence communities Inspector General Horowitz the DOJ inspector general but I don't know who the inspector general is for the I C I g but according to shifts letter Maguire refused to hand over the information Schiff also says the delay was apparently discussed with the Department of Justice Justice so McGuire got the stuff from the I g went to the Department of Justice and said what do I do and apparently the department of Justice said don't give it to Intel Committee and this raises serious concerns that it's being blocked to protect the president or other administration officials the subpoena requires McGuire requires McGuire to send the complaint to the committee and if he doesn't doesn't shift plans to require to appear before the committee in an open hearing public airing this Thursday this all began on September ninth when the I g sent a letter to shifts committee mitty saying hey we got a whistleblower complaint. Did you get it yet and four days later shift got a letter from McGuire declining shifts request for the Info saying it involves privileged communications by persons outside of the I see so this just sounds like trump invoking his weird executive privilege that doesn't yeah and how and what is it exactly again Shiva's. Yes like requesting. What specifically said the whistleblower complaint the complaint okay? I'm China really forced this like Jerry Maguire Reference Joseph Maguire already. I show Oh me the money classic but yeah show me the complaint and not quietly isn't roll off the time it's not as cool yes show me the corruption yeah and who knows but the DOJ is blocking it and apparently they're inciting privileged communication but mcguire prior who doesn't have the legal authority or the discretion to overrule a determination by the ICG. It's clear to me the misconduct at issue involved trump or other senior. White House officials the whistle blower. I filed a complaint August twelfth with the ice and it wasn't until August twenty sixth when the I g shared the complaint with acting DNA McGuire and he had ten days from that day to give it over to the Intel Committee. Dan Coats is last day on the job was August fifteenth three days after the initial complaint was filed other details. We we know from shifts. Letters are that the conduct the whistle blower complained about was from someone outside the intelligence community we have also learned that the office of DNA has refused fuse to rule out that the urgent concern and underlying conduct relates to an area of active investigation by the House Committee so they might be trying to say there might might be a couple of excuses here at the office of DNA might be saying since this is about stuff that you're investigating we can't hand it over and they also might try to to say that it that because the president isn't under the denied that this whistle blower conduct doesn't have to be reported from the G. for the but it doesn't matter though because it's it all has to do is be related to anything that has to do with intelligence I'm curious to know if this is precedent at all or how common it is for someone to go to the DOJ with something like this and then for them to say don't worry about it. Apparently it's never happened. Thank you. That's I would. That's what reporters are saying. There haven't found an instance of this ever happening and it's unclear whether DOJ don't want shift to know what the complaint is about but like I said they could be arguing. The whistle blower doesn't impose an obligation on the DNA to disclose presidential misconduct because the protests is not under deny but like. I said he should be able to require disclosure under oversight authorities shift should be able to get that just under because he's in Congress and they have oversight Authority I I think the law is clear it says a serious or flagrant problem abuse violation of law or executive order or deficiency relating to the funding administration or operation of an intelligence agents activity within the responsibility and authority of the deny so it only has to be related to it so it doesn't matter that trump is under the conducts related if his if his if his conduct is related to an intelligence activity within the denial counts I think at least that's my reading of the of the of the law and people are asking because Kate Brandon did a threat on twitter and I guess people were asking her why this whistle blower doesn't go directly to Congress just go to Congress Congress and that's because if you don't do it this way if you don't report to the Inspector General in in your agency in this case the intelligence community the ICG. You aren't protected by whistleblower status. You can't go around the law and so that's they were taking that that chorus but Adam Schiff has said in in his letter. If you WANNA come directly to me will afford you protections of the whistleblower act so not only is he rick with subpoenaing you know the the actual file deny McGuire who will probably block it and they'll probably go to court like trump blocks everything and maybe requiring him to a pub publicly testify but they'll be some sort of blanket executive privilege that they invoke there but he's also telling the whistle blower you can come directly to us and I'll make sure you have have your whistleblower protection and he's a congressman. Yes, you would love to have a fire. Oh, she warmed a piece of bread for ten minutes in my microwave. Hen, it fucked up my house for week. I mean, better lover. Yeah. I mean, I did too, but she's gotta stay out. Sicilia says, listen minus eight, and she tests my gangster daily. Not. I talk Hindi the other day I was getting on her and I was talking to her like me and her like I met her off the street list. I was like, first of all, what you're doing is corny, that's wack. No, honestly, it was all I had. I was then you're being way I just told my, you've got to wanna be a better personnel. I try that. This can't be who you wanna, not honestly. But if this is who you wanna be, you gotta let us know because we've gotta just ourselves accordingly for this being who you wanted about that. I told you that. That. And I would almost like to take that idea..

"He plays and they're in contention they're definitely going to be in the playoffs so you know that it's going to make a great impact for you if you bring this guy on so if he's available to anyone and any team that's in a playoff race or knows that it's going to be the postseason can i bid on him i mean could you get as much for that half season as you could for a full season in the future potentially i think i mean this is this is going to be a dan hurst question right what's the hamming ship probability added the first because so much of the value shifted to the second half of course rollers reasons that yes mentioned so you could get pretty close depending on what the salary is because teams care so much more now just having that certainty locked up now on the other hand i don't know you look in the american league right now and there only five maybe six teams would be interested in buying anything but then in the national league like almost everyone is kind of in the hunt so yeah you could get pretty close to a full year salaries there's definitely player incentive to have a contract like this but teams would hate yeah definitely all right carter says first time emailer here i'm having a slow friday night of 'em obt listening to that wild trevor bauer interview and mulling over the most persistent question of our era why is mike trout so boring i decided to take the support myself to try to find out something outside of baseball that make trout enjoys besides whether and my strategy to do this was to look for articles and bios posted on him from before he was drafted that maybe others have not found what i found in roughly an hour of googling was fishing and crabbing apparently although i'm not entirely sure what that is it's like fishing for crabs with traps i guess so he sent me a link to an article and this is from the website max preps and it's about prep school players and i will send you a link to that and i will put a link to that in the usual places for listeners but this is from june fourth two thousand nine so this is shortly before mike tra was drafted it says new jersey draft hopeful trout living the life and there's what traits the life teenager no but it says for now he's just trying to take everything in it's been a hectic though fun time for trout number fifty in the max preps baseball report two thousand nine top one hundred fifty there were half of the top one hundred of the max preps baseball players at that point where head of trump when not doing interviews or being called by reporters or finishing season he does manage to find some alone time quote it's why i love fishing said trout thursday afternoon as he was getting some crab traps together before heading out with friends fishing and crabbing you can say i do it all i love that that's that's it that runs the full range human activities fishing and crabbing he does it all any says it's actually a great way to wind down and relax when asked how good a fisherman he is trout let out a bellowing laugh louis laugh out differ heard by utter it bellowing left but he says on a scale of one to ten i'm thirteen he said laughing but seriously it's not how i would rate myself as a player i still need work and right now with everything going on around me reporters and mitchell baseball calling it's a great time and the rest of his quotes are kind of critical mike trout quotes in here pretty plate but i did not know i guess that mitra was a fisherman it's kind of on the nose given his surname i mean you kind of figure that every baseball player is a fisherman because they all seem to be but i did that know about his fishing prowess or his crabbing prowess not something i've necessarily seen him talk about so i do feel like i know a little bit more about my trap now than i did before do you suppose it might try to ever gone noodling probably well no i don't know in the northeast with that weather the bad weather probably less time that.
