"Mark in any full season since Pedro Martinez in 2000. Otherwise known as the greatest pitching season of my lifetime. My national league MVP is Paul Goldschmidt. I want you to ask him about this next year. His preparation must be outstanding. His OPS against starting pitchers last year, 1130. It's a 137 points better than any hitter in the national league. He hit three 71 against starting pitchers, highest in a full season since Miguel Cabrera in 2013. His pregame prep has to be as good as anybody in the sport. And lastly, of course, my American League MVP has not Shohei Ohtani. It is Aaron judge in large part because of how he just carry that line up in the second half. Here are just incredibly loud numbers to demonstrate how impressive that was. So the league owned an OPS on base plus slugging of 7 O 6 after the all star break. Aaron judge after the all star break owned a slugging percentage of 7 85. His slug was 79 points higher than the entire batting line of the sport. And if you look at the same subset of time, his Yankee teammates slash two 23, two 92, 360. That was a batting line buster that was equivalent to the pirates. In the second half of the season, it was Aaron judge playing on a line in a lineup with the pirates. They still won their division. They still made noise, and obviously he is the single biggest reason why. You mentioned Berliner, I will relate to you that during the World Series they had a conversation with him with Jessica Mendoza in which it's pretty clear, hambo, he's locking in on 300 wins. Yes. I totally agree. Look, I'll tell you what, this might surprise you. I would rather sign Justin Verlander to a two, three, four year deal than Jacob degrom. There is no obvious reason to me. That guy won't pitch into his mid 40s. I think he's going to finish 5th. He's going to passport by 11 and eventually finish 5th on the all time strikeout list. And I think he will be the last picture we ever see to get to 300 wins. All right. Well, that would be fun. And I mean, he's so goal oriented that, yeah, there's no doubt that once he gets close, he will absolutely be zoned in and focused and working to make it happen. All right, Hamburg, thanks for doing this. Later, Friends. Alan Gonzalez covers baseball

"Is spectacular, obviously. I do think Seattle's improvement was underrated to go from the Superdome or whatever the heck they call it. What do they call that? Was it the Superdome? Seattle Superdome. And I love their part now. I think their partner now is spectacular. Blade bigler at blade bigler is up next, this person writes in. I really think Kershaw will get to three kilometers. Kingdom. That's what it was called. There you go. For King County. Yeah. Okay, sorry. Blade is right in. I think Kershaw will get to 3000 strikeouts, but I also think that feet will never be done again. What do you guys think? That blade, I completely agree with you because of what we're seeing, right? Starting pitchers getting yanked consistently after 80 pitches, you're not going to have a lot of counting stats with that sort of dynamic in place, which is another reason why we need some sort of regulation and how relievers are used. Chief beef at Carl havoc, I was watching the Red Sox game the other night and the virtual strike zone was off. It made the game much more interesting to watch where you could slowly imagine the umpire strike zone as the game developed. What do you think about that? No. MLB actually said, hey, how about you guys turn off the K zone? No. The part of it. I want to know what kind of job the umpire is doing. Let's skirt some accountability there. No, that's not a good idea. Last one for the week, Nicholas Schwartz at N Schwartz underscore CEO writes in Justin via lander and Max Scherzer are both first ballot Hall of Famers, but who will history remember as the better of the two? Yeah, Nicholas, the sound you hear is of me running away from that question. Two of the most competitive people I've ever known, they have a competitive dynamic between them, I'm just going to wait for the final numbers to settle right away in on that. Oh my goodness. I would love to set up that conversation with the two of them. Put cameras of both of them and ask them which one of you guys is better because they're both so competitive. It might come to blows. It might get a little physical at the end of that conversation. I wouldn't do that, but Justin Verlander, Max Scherzer, they're both great because they both have tremendous competitive arrogance, you know? I love that about both of those guys. All righty, that does it for bleacher tweets for the wee hashtag bleacher tweets on Twitter while you're watching the games. Who's going to have to be anointed as having the better career Verlander or Max Scherzer? Well, do you hear that? That was the sound of the bus hitting me that you're just threw me under. "That and pitch come, which the teams that are using it are comfortable with it. Their games are moving a lot faster. There's no yeah, it's interesting. On the mets broadcast last night, they were talking about how some of the mets pitchers had stopped using because the noise they weren't unable to hear it. And I asked somebody at the league and they said that was a complaint and the firmware was updated to make sure it's coming in louder to the ear and I was talking with a pitcher down at triple-A about the new rules and he said the only problem right now there is that when batters are in the box with 9 seconds left to go on the pitch clock and ready to face it, we have to run through our signs then. If there's a runner on second base, we may need to go multiple sequences if that's the case. We probably aren't going to be able to get it in with 9 seconds. We really need and apparently there were not enough pitch comm units produced yet to distribute throughout the minor leagues at this point. So I think the combination of and the pitch clock is going to be a wonderful thing going forward. So we get the pace of the game moving, but there aren't all these automatic strikes that are unnecessary. You and I and the other writers at ESPN got a memo yesterday from one of our editors, Dan Mullen, and you and I were chosen for honorable mentions for red hot takes for an article that was published yesterday. And Paul and bikinis, who's going to be on the podcast tomorrow, won the gold medal for his red hot take. And I want to hear yours. Did I didn't actually go in and read this article yet. I wanted to hear what your red hot take was that was so good. But Paul McKinney's after I saw what it was, he's insane. Like there's no chance. What he wrote was is that Albert pools is going to pass Babe Ruth's career home run total, which is 7 14 and feels like it's a hundred miles off. Yeah, Albert Pujols, by the way, for the record hambo, because I don't think that you understand how math works, which I never thought that I would say, but Albert Pujols is at 681 right now, which would mean he has to hit 34 on his past paper. And listen, when an editor asks for a scorching hot take, hambo will provide. You know, respect to him for putting himself out there with that ridiculousness. And I don't know buster if mine is as ridiculous, it's probably pretty ridiculous. But it's much more, I think, within the realm of possibility. And that is that in the last 50 years, there have been 13 seasons turned in by position players of ten wins above replacement or more. My hot take was that Byron buxton will be the 14th. And that is out there, not because of talent. Because Byron buxton is averaging over the last two years, .07 plus wins above replacement per game, which is a staggering number. I mean, it's an incredible pace, better than anyone in baseball better than trout better than tatis better than Soto, better than Acuna. I mean, it's above all the best players in baseball. The problem is Byron buxton's played a 140 plus games in his career once. And we've already seen him miss 6 games this season because of a knee ailment. So the notion of him staying healthy, it is a pipe dream, but it is one that I fully embrace because I'd love to see what he can do in a full season. Yeah, and he's obviously fully aware of the pitfalls that he's fallen into in the past when he got hurt. It hurt that knee and he slammed his hand on the ground. You know what he was thinking. Like, not again. So everybody would love to see a full season out of him. My red hot take was that Mike Trout is going to become the first player since 2001 to reach 60 homers. You buy in? I only get that tempo crazy. I think like you, it's within the realm of possibility. I'm not buying, but I mean, Mike Trout hasn't ever hit 50 homers. So we're talking about quite a leap here. But no, it's not out of the realm of possibility at all. He has the Mike Trout buster has the talent to do just about anything. And I think we're at that point in his career now. I hope where we can start to appreciate what he has done already while still admiring what he's doing now and is going to do going forward. You can make an argument that Mike Trout had the best decade between 20 and 29 of any player in baseball history. And listen, the all time top of the list greats play into their 30s and play well in their 30s. That's the separator and the differentiator between the tippy top, first ballot, top of the pyramid Hall of Famers. And the guys who, by the way, Mike Trout's a Hall of Famer now already. That's done. I mean, if he retired today, he would be a first ballot guy, but to be up there with Ruth Aaron maize Williams, I would say bonds, but he's not in the Hall of Fame to be up there with that caliber of guy. You need to play well into your 30s..

"Sketch of Charles Johnson, said a strikeout record because they took advantage of it and you go back and look at some of those pitches, it was ridiculous. The umpire should not be available or excuse me a variable from game to game. All right, before we go, I'm going to let you here one more time. Oscar worthy, here's Mel Gibson. Two days ago, I saw a vehicle that had all that tanker. You want to get out of here? Talk to me. Hambo are you on board with me about giving him an Oscar? I mean, I think he should lifetime achievement award something. I'll have to watch the movie, not with my wife, not after an Italian candlelight dinner. I will let you know how it goes, and I'll get back to you. But just please, I'm 31. Taylor's even younger than me. Some less dated references would be helpful moving forward. Yes. Watch you 8 o'clock before your wife has even started to wake up. Because she knows and watches movies, you're gonna be like, oh my God, what it's psycho that I married. All right. Later boys. Get out of here, hambo. Bleacher tweets all right, buster bleacher tweets for a Friday. Jeremiah, a vis ruse, apologies on the pronunciation there, Jeremiah, but he writes in, do you think the Atlanta case study, many cheaper, good players instead of one expensive great player has an impact on the off season? No, Jeremiah, and I'll tell you why, because I think that what happened with the braves this year was an outlier situation. What happened behind the scenes was, is that following the pandemic and the empty ballpark last year, liberty held down the payroll for the team. They made them cut payroll, which is why they didn't resign Adam Duvall and they didn't make some of those moves. Then the ballpark opened in Atlanta. The braves among the had among the highest attendance figures in baseball, their place was absolutely filled, fans flocked back and then we got to July and then liberty gave the front office, the flexibility to go out and mad all those moves. And I just don't think that situation is going to be replicated where, you know, the team suddenly is going to have a ton of money available because of the pandemic. So I don't think it's something that they'll use going forward. Last for today, we've got Ernesto cedro at urn YC three 7 7 buster rev bev, I can not believe the Giants almost left San Francisco today. They're one of the most profitable franchises in the league and have arguably the best fan base as well. They show up whether they're rebuilding or winning a 107 games. Nice little shout out to Todd there with his forgotten franchises. Yeah, 100%. I agree with that. Todd, I think a great Todd just did an amazing job all year with those forgotten franchises. And you know, I know you were talking yesterday, probably about trying to do something where you put those together. Yeah, we've had people talk about them, you know, doing that before, a little bit last season as well. But I think the forgotten franchise is really lend themselves to their own contained episodes..

"College because well. We don't know if you're going to outperform guy that goes one hundred and seventy in the draft. So you gotta prove it on your rookie contract. Baker mayfield took a strong step forward and proving that he should be in the conversation but baker mayfield has to have a great season bitch year to solidify a being discussed as being really a franchise quarterback and be. Do you pay him. As a franchise quarterback hype can only take you so far and right now. He's got a double down on having a strong into his season last year. She's got you guys emoji with the head exploded. Doing looking at that graphic did listen. That was a well-built. Argument is total balderdash tall. Set out the window lavar. Come on listen. Two years ago. He had hugh jackson as a coach. Fielding on the sideline last year. Freddie kitchens was basically a bartender somehow being a head coach in the nfl and again it was a nightmare. Don't compare those those first two years of bicker had look at last year. What have you done for me lately. Baker mayfield last year was phenomenal top ten quarterback in the nfl coordinator pro football focus. Not not me the stats. The numbers say baker is on the upward trajectory. Meanwhile gardner meant you are. The jaguars is urban. Meyer getting hit over the head with trade offers for gardner bench. You guys are way too low on baker mayfield nebraska and now rick's gonna come over the top and hammer me. Because that's what he wants to do. But i'm just telling you guys like odell. Beckham is one of the top fifteen receivers in the league. Top ten he's proven he stuff to prove. They're basically adding that to an offense. That was a juggernaut last year. They were awesome in the second half of the season as you said they have the best one to running back hambo offensive line. That's probably looking at top. Seven eight in the league up. Like things are really shaping up well for baker. I'm trying to escape where the puck is going not where it has been and i know it's been ugly baker in the past but forget about the past xamax not not to jump on you. But that's even more reason for there to be pressure on baker mayfield to produce. He's got a top five. I wouldn't say top. Seven matter of fact i might go as far as to say them in the colts that had the most elite offense affronts end the game. You have to elite running backs in your backfield. You have two elite receivers. You have two elite tight ends. So there's even more reason for his numbers not to be comparible. Even if you had excuses of using coaches from the past the bottom line here for me is that baker mayfield has every single thing. A quarterback could ever want need which for. Here's my christmas list guys. I need an offensive line. That's a top ranked offensive line. Hey i need a running game. That can keep the pressure off of me. And so that. I have time to throw a ball. Plaques fakes will work. I can move out of the pocket because i'm a little mobile. Can you guys delivered out for me. Well i need some receivers. That are uncomfortable that run really good routes and well could be considered one of the greats or greats plural in the league. It's even more reason. Jay mac for you to sit there and put the pressure on baker mayfield and say if you are not unquestionably the answer to this team. If you are not unquestionably a franchise guy with this type of talent. Then it should be very easy to come to a conclusion and save if you can't produce what this group then. There's no reason for me to think that. I can bring you in here and you can produce here and is definitely no reason for me to give you a contract that we reward you not being an elite guy with all the elite talent around you back. I'm not coming over the top to hammer. You actually looking for an invitation to go to vegas with you because you're entertaining. Hell brother and i would be trying to convince you not to throw your money away there. Let's use it and have a good time. I wasted on some of these picks baker mayfield as an mvp. You must have got some great odds on that brother. That's the only explanation. I have for that so i have a question for you is if baker mayfield is indeed the long-term answer and he proved last season that he's made this meteoric rise and he's only going to continue and he's going to be. Mvp this year. What makes sense for the cleveland browns. To at least offer contract now to get into this price before he becomes. Mvp rather than wait and then giving them an extension at mvp prices. They have not done that they have. There's nothing on the table for him to refuse. The great poet suggest to me that they're not buying just yet that he's the quarterback that you think he is and by the way that pro football focus ranking okay. He was tenth. Matt ryan was night matt. Stafford was eleven. Like he's in the land of quarterbacks that we're not quite sure what to make of at this point in their careers and i'd go to sporting news that also had a ranking and they had Baker mayfield as thirteenth behind. Both joe borough and lamar jackson. If you're the quarterback of the future for a team that has super bowl aspirations you damn well better be the best quarterback in the division as of right now that categorically cannot be said about baker may listen. I hope i didn't make it sound like baker mayfield's the best quarterback in the not without flaws said going to be on it betting on him to win. Mvp at odds that were favorable. They've now come. My way that being said baker did cut his interceptions last year. He cut his sacks he still needs to improve under pressure. Four interceptions under pressure one of the numbers in the league. It would know the book on baker but as lavar said the offensive line is there. I hope i'm not getting cleveland. Fans too excited. But this brown's team is absolutely loaded dental jeremiah. My podcast she said this is one of the five best rosters in the nfl. And again you know. You mentioned quarterbacks. Why haven't they over a huge deal. Josh ellen got the bills to the afc title game. They backed up the brink's and handed it to josh allen. Who was i mean. He was like third in mvp voting. I think he finished. He was up there. If you low paul baker now based on what he was. Two years ago gardner minzhu numbers. Then he's going to be like no and it gets ugly. You don't wanna from the world because you guys have said he has not quite given you the world so you're in that weird middle ground. Baker is going to get paid. But i think we know this is a run first team. They are like the play. Action is held his team operates. I think baker will get big money. I don't know if you'll get dak prescott money lavar you think he deserves dak prescott dak prescot desert dak prescott matters. Who's up. who's up when they're up and speaking of who's up when they're up quarterbacks coming up we'll tell you if russell wilson seahawks are legit super bowl contenders next on. Speak for you. All of russell wilson's issues with the seahawks. Appear to be in the rear view mirror. Seattle has a new offensive coordinator and russ sounds extremely positive heading into the season. Let's take a listen. I feel better than ever been working my tail off. My mind's more clear than ever we feel very confident what we can do. And i feel more confident in myself more than ever now. I've always felt like him the ball and let's go. Let's go to work you know. And let's play ball. So.

"When a you don't know what player is going to play be? It doesn't mean anything. In the long run. All the Nets lose the game to put it out in Brooklyn and January, does it really meaning? And I think that's the danger that the NBA has put themselves in. These teams can pick and choose when they want to go out there and perform at a high level and it's an 82 game regular season and they can pick and choose who they want postseason. They do it in the regular season. They pick and choose. Don't get a discount place wise. I mean, so as a result of that, I think it's turn some people off. They the super dominant team in which LeBron started by going to Miami and good but LeBron. He was a free agent. I don't think it's good for the league. I really don't and I think you're seeing the Nets kill everybody by, you know, they kill everyone in the next three rounds and you guys are ABC is looking at a sweeping the final. You tell me how much you like it and that's one of the game by 40 points. Don't you know? You know? Did you know that the Islander blue in game Islanders Bruins On NBC SportsNet Did you know in New York that you 1.5 million and the Nets Brooklyn game on TNT with five or six Hall of Famers only did 3.1 million? You know why? That's what by 50 points, who watch the second half founders in a classic. It's hockey and the Andrews are in a classic game, the Islanders for crying out loud. Alright, It's not Rangers and Gretzky. It's the Islanders, but they're in a classic game. People get drawn into it, and they're not going to sit there and pay attention to the Nets lead by 100 at halftime. It's a major problem. I could really is, I agree. Uh oh, Such a pleasure, Chris. Thank you very much for the time as always, again Mad Dog sports radio and you see him on the baseball network. It's always a pleasure to catch up. Thank you, Chris Russo. I'll see you. Good job bag. Thank you, pal. Appreciate Thank you. You too. That's Chris Russo. I have always enjoyed him. And I knew his perspective would be good for those of you around the country who are not intimately familiar with him among the many things as he hates the Yankees, so I thought he might enjoy the Garrett coal element of all of that, But I mean, he's look, he's right. And I I worry. You know, a bunch of notes went around last night and again. I'm having this crazy week family wise, so I was only peripherally plugged in relative to what I usually am into all of our planning for the shows today, you know, I play an active role in and as As you would imagine, in planning the TV show on the radio show every day and all the talk about the baseball peace and here's the way I viewed it, Hambo. To see Garrett Coal, a legit star, a name that even people who don't know the sport that well are aware of, and there were how great he is sitting up there completely unable to answer the question that struck me as something everyone is interested in, like, Oh, boy, like, Okay, Something's going on here. You were asked to. Yes or no question In your response. It takes you five minutes to say the words. I don't know how to answer that. That's obviously terrible. Once we start getting into well, if the spin rate is this, and then the spin rate is that this is what worries me. You know that to me? I don't think my If you're a sport and you're trying to attract people who don't love it like you do. Don't care about exit velocity. I don't care. Those are things I don't care about. In the spin rate. I understand how important they are. And I understand that baseball needs to do something about them. I want them to But there is also a part of me that says, from a digestible standpoint as a viewer as as a spectator. These guys are injecting themselves with illegal steroids in the bathroom that I get. This guy is using a little bit of sticky substance, and now the ball is rotating 200 miles an hour faster or whatever. It is 200 rpm's faster and that is lowering the batting average by 20 points or whatever it is. You're going to lose me, and that's what I'm worried that it's having the same impact on the game. The problem with analytics and spin right and exit velocity. Is that they're called Analytics like politicians do a much better job of this than we do of taking something That's an interesting and making it sound interesting or digestible Analytics is a complicated word. It's a It's a It's intimidating, but the bottom line is very simple. It's harder now than it ever has in the history of baseball to get a hit and what I'm telling you. What we're telling you is that one of the primary reasons for it is because pictures are cheating by using this so you don't have to be as outraged as you were during the steroid era, But the bottom line of it is very clear. This is impacting the game as much as those did no question about that's a really good bottom line. And unlike as we just said with Chris Unlike getting steroids out of the game, which is a long drawn out, dragged out process because even if everyone stops using them on a Tuesday, it doesn't impact the game on Wednesday, this one does. If to be literal. If every pitcher stopped using this tomorrow, the games this weekend would look different. There would be more runs scored, there would be there may be significantly more run scored this weekend. If all pictures just decided I'm not doing it anymore. Let's see if that happens, and that might be good for the sport. All right again. Will be a graduation tomorrow, um, sobbing like a small child and I will be back here and better than ever on Friday, talking over all the things that happened on and off the fields of play. Have a wonderful day. I'll see you later. Greening on ESPN Radio Wednesday Will Barton hand all.

"To him. I just want you to know I'm done with the Roman numerals. I'm finished with the Roman numerals. All right, so we've done nothing but these Super Bowl of new No, I'm talking to you. New notice. Shera is the producer of the show, and he doesn't excellent job. And he helps me every single day in particular with the green list. We go back and forth. We bounce things off each other. He's one of these sports. I mean, I mean, this in the best way. One of these true sports geeks like he knows everything. And so I ask him his opinion on some of these lists and all that kind of stuff. And then he will do a little research for me on the mill put together just some notes, and he always puts in what so I tell him, Make sure I know what Super Bowl this one Woz And knew no always puts it in with the Roman numeral. So like the Ken Stabler Super Bowl of Super Bowl X, I'm he just hands me a sheet of paper. I'm looking at X. I okay, I know that's 11. But then the Super Bowl involving Joe Flacco is Super Bowl Xlv II. Now I work fast. Right? I mean, you listen to me, You know, I don't take a lot of pauses. I'm the master refusing 1000 words where 1 may have sufficed. I'm talking quickly here, so I'm trying to decipher. I'm trying to do Roman math in my head. As I'm reading these notes. And so I don't know if it is if this is a greeny show problem or an NFL problem, But what is it going to be enough with the Roman numerals? I mean, what other context in our lives? Are we using Roman numerals like there's not if you're getting one building and you're trying to get in an elevator. Let's say you're in a skyscraper. You're like the Empire State Building. And what Florida? I want to go. I want to go to the 73rd floor. Well, if you've got to figure out It's like l X II. You will never get to the floor. You want to never And you know why don't they do that? Because who would do it? Because one who is deciding that we need Roman numerals for these things, so I get the grandeur of it. I mean, it does look cool. I'm just going to give it to you Quickly. Here, Okay? The Drew Brees Super Bowl. Hambo sitting next to me. No one knows numbers better than you do. The Drew Brees Super Bowl XL Ivy. 46 44. That's the point. The I came before the V but you've got to be thinking that way in your head. So I'm done with the Roman numeral. This is my I would like Bubba. I want to put together a committee. So look into this again. And I would like you to chair this committee that we need to do away with the usage of Roman numerals. Not only In Super Bowls, but in literally everything I am done with Roman numerals. The only place we should have Roman numerals is in room. In fact, when I went to Rome, I didn't see a single Roman numeral anywhere. They're all on that that the light get the Coliseum. Because that place is thousands of years old. We have actual numbers now. So, Bubba, can you do something about this? Yeah, I'll look into it. I need you to look into it. You think I'm kidding around? It's enough with the Roman numerals. I can't figure out what I'm talking about. I don't know what game I mean, It's very frustrating. Also the worst jeopardy category. The worst Roman numeral have a better chance with Byzantine architecture. They just put them up there. I I love jeopardy. But I haven't seen that They will just build Alaska like you have to answer in Roman numerals. I think the answer will be a year and in your head then you have to do all it's impossible. I have no chance of that. Oh, forever, literally. I I'm done. We're done with Roman numerals. That is one of my first hot takes of this day Greenies takes but I got better ones for you here. Greenies takes presented by progressive insurance drivers who say with progressive save over $750 on average. Our first take is this The National Football League needs to change one rule. And that is they have to cease all hiring of coaches until after the Super Bowl needs to be shut down. Mike Cannon bound tweeted this yesterday, and he's right if the NFL hiring process started yesterday, how in demand what Todd Bowles and Byron Leftwich paid Why do we make these decisions before the most important games of the year? A plate? Teams are making these decisions. Byron Leftwich has emerged as the guy people would want to hire everyone singing his praises. His name didn't even come up was even race. Did he get an interview? Do we know if he even got an interview? I don't know if he did. If we wait until now, when it matters, Byron left what should be the guy. Everyone talking about. Todd Bowles just pitched a perfect game in the Super Bowl. He just held Patrick Mahomes to zero touchdowns. So to me, they need to shut that down. No more hiring of coaches. No one can do it until after the Super Bowl is complete. That's when the interviews convey gin and you and you monitor that stuff. And it's for everyone's best interest and oh, by the way that it isn't a disadvantage to teams to go all the way to the Super Bowl. Because they're not falling behind in the off season program. Give everybody the month off. That's my first day E second take Is this the Houston Texans know they're trading to Shawn Watson pay no attention to the things they're saying. Mika's area was telling everyone he's not trading to Shawn Watson. Do you know why? Because he's trading to Shawn Watson, and that's what you say to people to make sure you drive it up. If.

"The offer expires today. Fine. Let's finish it up where we started it with my prediction, and very simply, it is the hashtag ko. Do you hear it Here all the time. Kansas City 37. Tampa Bay 34. The only reason I give it to us for two words, Patrick Holmes. He's the best He's the best player I've ever seen. He's not the greatest. Tom Brady is obviously the greatest and that doesn't change. Whatever happens on Sunday. The Patrick Mahomes is the best and I believe he wins this game because he's just too good not to figure out a way how he also has a great coach Andy Reid never loses a game where he has an extra week of preparation, and so I believe it will be the combination of the homes. And read that lead. The chief's Towards the beginning of what I think is going to be a dynasty. Enjoy the Super Bowl. This is not something we were promised. I couldn't be more excited, Hambo. Thank you, Bubba. Thank you. Thanks for the hang. Enjoy the game. I'll see him Monday. Back here. ESPN radio. Right. Enjoy the Super Bowl green and have a great weekend. We're busy this entire weekend. Not only do we have to show coming up in five minutes, we got the twitch party coming up on Sunday. 3 to 5. The big game Pregame were all over the Super Bowl today. "Ever Greenie presented by progressive insurance, my guests on the Goodyear hotline, and there's a bunch of them today. I got my ESPN crew coming through. Dan Orlovsky will be here. Marcus Spears will be here. Maybe my favorite green list that we have done so far, since we've been doing that for about a month. That is on the way it is, Of course, Super Bowl themed Hambo is here. Bubba is here. Tons of Super Bowl trivia is here, but there's only one place to start. Yeah, go only one place to start and the one place that we begin. The only place that we can begin, of course, is with Super Bowl 50 fives and predictions And I don't need to sit here and tell you right now, who was going to win the Super Bowl because I already did that on September 10th of this year. I told you how this was going to go to have Kansas City winning the Super Bowl, but I have them beating Tom Brady and the Buccaneers. I just buy buy into it in every conceivable way, primarily because that's a much better team than anyone else I think realizes the Buccaneers I'm talking about. So I've got Tampa Tom at home, but I have them losing to the homes and the chief's right now I hate to be that guy. Who dusts that off here. Now that I've been proven right as one of the great predictions, maybe in the history of sports, and you know, I was a tad put off as we just wrapped up the television show here by all of our analysts, all of my friends questioning whether I do truly hate to be that guy. So let me bring in. First off my main man. Hambo. Hear him, Bo, What can I tell you about him? Both For those of you don't know him. He is my VP of stats. Analytics, gambling and General Old Man grumpiness. Do you believe knowing me as many years as you do, hambo that I genuinely hate to be that the exact opposite you love to be that guy I love to be That guy's true, Bubba. Do you think anyone bought it when I said I hate to be that guy, my disheveled board operator Brendan Bubble Peregrine. Do you believe anyone listening? Bought it when I said I hate to be that guy. No. You know I don't either, But here's the thing. What I have discovered is a loophole, right? I found a little like flaw in the system because you can say I hate to be that guy. And then you can say anything you want. It's literally the same thing as saying. With all due respect, what movie is that? Is that stepbrothers? Which movie? Is it that he says? I can I said, with all due respect, validation, Talladega nights, right is the Ricky Bobby movie. I knew it was. Will Ferrell either way. As we've learned from that movie, and will Ferrell, who was he knows everything? Of course you can say anything you want After you have said, with all due respect, and now I believe you can say anything you want After you say I hate to be that guy, so I do. I hate to be that guy. But I told you September 10th how this was going to go on. I see no reason to change my mind. It's time for straight talk. Brought to you by straight talk Wireless as Ted Kot 37 kiss of death. "It's embarrassing. Distrust on both sides has made that relationship so toxic they cannot possibly accomplish anything. At a time when the sport requires real leadership into a post pandemic world with a ton of opportunity, but also faces real challenges. Right now. They are just too busy fighting with each other to get anything done. And if that sounds familiar to people who pay attention to the news every day, it should Of course, it isn't nearly as important, but the reality of it is that this is a time a particular time in history for all businesses that requires leadership. Requires moving forward together because we're going to come out of this pandemic. God willing, at some point pretty soon and everyone all of us are going to face a lot of big decisions. And the sport. I think people would talk about baseball are wrong on both counts and Hambo. No one I know loves baseball more than you do. But people who say the sport is dying, I couldn't be more wrong. But the people who then will say Look at all the money they're making their is healthy as they've ever been, are also wrong. The truth is somewhere in the middle. The truth is, baseball is a thriving business with real challenge is moving forward, and it is my opinion, and I'll give you a moment tow event on this. If you'd like to know that this is a time that requires leadership. That is impossible. I'm not suggesting the leaders are good people. I know Rob for years. I like him a lot. And Tony Clark, I'm not saying they're not capable. What the relationship is so toxic. They can get nothing done. They're speaking a different language. When there is zero trust in the relationship, obviously, it makes makes it very difficult to move forward. Green have ever seen the movie War of the Roses. Yes, I have. That's baseball. Right now. They're fighting over square footage when the whole world around them is crumbling. That's what that's what I see right now. And it seems very unlikely to me that they're gonna get this thing figured out any time soon. And with the CB ate the collective bargaining agreement coming to an end after this season, this is the worst time for this to possibly behind the worst. I mean, they air their dirty laundry at the height of the pandemic at the height of the pandemic, they just basically pulled down their pants and said, Look at our underwear. And they managed to get a season together, and once they started playing, it was pretty good. Is the game always saves it. Right now. They need to save themselves and give.

"So Mike Holmgren tell me a story about a time that Brett Farve made you want to pull every hair out of your head. Uh, well, I don't think we have enough time. And if you've seen pictures of me lately, you see what he did to my hair because it's there's nothing left up there. But I think probably the Atlanta game. We played a playoff game, and it was one of the first playoff games the Packers at hand for a long time, and I was in the Old County stadium. And we had not eight seconds to go with no timeouts. But I had a couple of shots of the end zone to beat Atlanta and I call the time out. He came over and I said, Look, it You know, we only have eight seconds. There's no time left so we could take two shots to get to weaken. Run two plays with Take two shots at the end zone. You cannot run and you cannot take a sack. Is that clear? Yeah, I got it. So I look out on the field. We run the play. He drops back to pass, and then he starts to run and I'm yelling. No, no! And he scores by six inches and we win the game. He dives over the attack. When we score, he doesn't score with us. He comes over the sideline. I go. I go. I'm really happy but Didn't I tell you, you know not to run and he goes. Mac. I knew I could make it and then I go. OK, It's good for you. I'm happy Check my heart rate That's so fabulous. And it's such a perfect illustration of the guy like that, right? We're talking about the frustration of Aaron Rodgers not going any farther in the playoffs and not making it back to a Super Bowl in all these losses. Here is the statistic that I've got for you on Aaron Rodgers today. In the games and as he has lost in the playoffs. His teams have allowed an average of 36 points. That is the highest mark of any quarterback in the sport. Going back to 1960. If you're wondering about why Aaron Rodgers is having such a difficult time dealing with this stuff it is because far too frequently it hasn't been his fault that his teams have not gone on. All right. One piece of business. Maybe we save the best for last list is.

"On the Goodyear hotline. Hambo is just sending the texts frantically with this was ridiculous. Statistics about Tom Brady. He he has made this thing so ridiculous that I don't even know where to begin. How about this? How about this one for you, Brandon? Tom Brady has now won as many and have C championships as Drew Brees or Aaron Rodgers. Spend one year He has as many NFC championships as either of those legendary first ballot Hall of Fame all time great quarterbacks. He up and goes to Tampa Bay. Men in the playoffs and 13 years And here they are back in the Super Bowl. Let's talk to a man who knows him well played with him for years. Former NFL quarterback Matt Cassel, who's now with NBC Sports, Boston joins me here on the Goodyear Hotline. Mad Thank you very much for for getting up here with us. And let me ask you this to begin with, like How would you describe how he's done this? Like you know the inside of it better than most people do what it looks like when he comes in and leads. How would you describe not just that He's done this but how he has pulled this off in Tampa. Right. It's been an incredible accomplishment. Obviously, we all know that with the truncated off season and him coming in a little bit late, having toe learn a new system. Look, I was with a lot of different coordinators throughout my career. And it's always a complicated process to come into a new building to get familiar with a new offensive structure with the new scheme, new weapons that you have and really not have a kind of time on task before you start the season to do so. And but at the same time, knowing Tom Brady and knowing his approach, he's always up for a new challenge, and he always motivate themselves in different way and we could see throughout the season. They had their ads and clothes that had their ups and downs. But the same time he buys in 110%. You know what I mean? It's one of those situations he's going to come in. He's gonna lead the way that he leaves. He's also gonna show the team like Look, it takes effort. It's going to take work, and then he's away. He motivates people not only by his presence and how he leaves but also his work ethic and his his standards for excellence and his accountability that of holding people accountable and making sure that they were doing the right stuff, particularly on the offense inside the ball. So It's absolutely incredible to be inside that building with a guy like Tom Brady when I was a young quarterback, But even watching the process now and how much they got better throughout the course of the year has is a testament to his work ethic and what he does and what he brings to the table. That, speaking of the offense, you obviously know it intimately and ran it. How similar is the offense? He's running now in Tampa to what he was accustomed to, to what he generally ran in New England all those years. Right. Well, wouldn't you look at it? I mean, throughout the years in New England, you could tell that it wasn't so much a vertically stretched offense. And by that, I mean well, we weren't always trying to push the ball downfield. We had weapons like the West Welker, the Julian Edelman's of the world. The Amendola is that worked really well within that 10 yard radius. Now we take our shot. When you look at this offense and how it's set up in how they attacked different defense. If they try to get into the depths of the defense, they vertically attacked him. They have the weapons with Mike Evans and Chris God when Scotty Miller obviously blew the top off the coverage for a huge play at the end of the 2nd 2nd quarterly yesterday, so they actually tried to attack you vertically more so than you know the possession, passing game, yak yardage, and they they have the capability to do that. But at the same time, they're trying to take advantage of their matchups downfield and you can also see how well they do at moving those guys around from Mike Evans being in the slot. They'll move him outside and then get in big personnel. You saw him bringing in extra lineman and then kind of utilized that play action pass yesterday as well. So that's the main difference. In my opinion. That Castle is with me here again and NBC Sports Boston today and so you are there in the midst of the of the Boston sports discussion and conversation and for those of us across the country. How are the Patriot fans reacting to what Brady is doing there? You know what There's there's a group of people that are still going to be pretty bitter. Let's be honest. I mean, there's a loyalty factor that was broken, and they're upset. But then I'm sure that there's a lot of people that have to respect the way that he's gone out and played this year. And at the same time he dedicated 20 years of his life to that organization brought six Super Bowl championships there so Again. I'm sure that there's a great appreciation for a lot of fans as well. But I'm sure that there's a little hurt right now that they're missing their quarterback back there doing and there's no doubt about that. And who for those who are mad, like generally, I'm not asking you what, how you think, but from what you're hearing from fans and what they say on the talk shows and things who were they mad at? Are they mad at Brady? Are they mad at Bill they manage. Craft who were the if if the people who are mad who were they mad at? I'm sure it's more in terms of Kraft and Belichick and not being able to figure out a way for the powers that be to come together to have talked to keep him to end his career New England and allow him to finish his career there. I think that it's more The anger is toward the front office and not being able to keep him here versus Brady himself, making that decision to finally part ways and go somewhere and then let me ask you another thing just quickly because you're there. And one of the other big story lines of this upcoming off season is going to be a game of quarterback musical chairs. There are so many free agent quarterbacks who are outstanding, and I'm sure you've seen the reporting about to Shawn Watson looking for a new home and Matt Stafford. Who is going to have a new home and a lot of people on my show in the mornings on, get up, have looked at Matt Stafford and said that could be a guy he could see Bill Loving in New England as one who knows it intimately. What do you think of that marriage as a potential one in Foxboro? Well, that would be a great fit, and I know match bastard I played with him in 2018 Look, He's an unbelievable quarterback. He's a great competitors and at the end of the at the end of the day after 12 seasons with the same organization is fifth head coach. I think that he wasn't ready for rebuild, you know, and he's ready to go to somewhere. That's gonna be in contention. And who knows how much longer you're going to get to play this game? You know, not every years guarantee for you, so he wants to go somewhere..

"Extraordinarily call extraordinary call from Vin Scully? They're you know, Buster. We can talk about the significance of Aaron as a cultural figure, and we will do that endlessly. Can we talk quickly about him is a ballplayer because he that those are things that sometimes I think, get for gotten because he became so much larger than that. But Hemo sent me a slew of numbers here mean Buster. Let's talk about Hank Aaron is a ballplayer, first and foremost. And incredibly well rounded player. Someone who you know was just the Metrodome of power in a year after year after year, hitting 40 homers, he actually you know, While building toward that record of 755, he never hit more than 47 homers in any season. But he also was a great defender, and he was a terrific base runner of you know, he helped the Braves when the world Syriza and 1957. I've always thought of Willie Mays being the greatest major leaguer. I think Hank there and it would be in the top three. You know you someone when you would see him in person in retirement, it reminded you this was you know, baseball's greatest slugger was not a large man, but he had these unbelievably strong and quick wrists and you would hear stories. From his peers from Bob Gibson from Sandy Cove, fax, others talking about how how dead dangerous it was the pitch him inside because of how quick those wrists were. He was a terrific all around player that came in part from batting cross handed when he was growing up, and when he played in the Negro leagues, and that helped produce incredible hand and wrist strength, and I can I can talk to two other quick things. As far as him as a player if you took away all 755 of his home runs He would still have 3000 hips, is the only member of the 500 home run club in baseball history. Who could say that and of him? Here's another note. Hambo is just sending me notes left and right in its Chokes you up. Muhammed Ali once said of Hank Aaron. He's the only man I idolized more than myself. Was Mohammed Ali saying that if Henry Aaron whom we lose today, at the age of 86, buster, thank you for jumping in here, my friend I appreciated. I know you'll be busy all day long trying to put this into perspective as well. I we We will obviously cancel everything else we're planning on doing on the show today will come back in just a moment. We will talk at great length. I will tell you two stories. I have two personal stories. About Hank Aaron. He is What a gentleman. He was. What an incredible ball player. He was. What an extraordinary life he lived. Hank Aaron has died at the age of 86. "We all know how this is treated differently now you played not all that long ago. So you're very aware of it. What is your sense of how this thing plays out? And the bedroom homes. I have 100% confidence in playing, you know, Like I'm gonna say something that somewhat controversial greens. I thought of orders. I don't see like the massive hit like I've seen concussions before. We all have. Don't see the big hit to the head, and I don't see that Jari hit to the ground and it makes me think like there was some. I'm not a doctor, but those something else that happened that there is in this. His concussion grouping that you know that has to be done because it's the preservation of player safety and player health. But it doesn't look like to me like this was like, Oh, my gosh, what a brutal concussion, So I think he's going to press pass protocol. I think that, um So the fact that he got back Monday and it was encouraging, and then Tuesday it was encouraging, and he's already started to pass and tests and schefty tweet point tow him. Having the chance, at least to practice today are Super telling. And so I think he's going to play. The bigger thing for me is how he moves with the toe. You know, I've done turf toe twice. It stinks. It is ruled to have Turco and so what? I think they'll do it. Well, given the shoe that's one size bigger and then put a steel plate in there to make sure that that photo doesn't then they'll tape it up. And no shoot right in the middle of that bone, and he'll be serviceable. And you'll be pretty good. But I want to see the kind of the impact of that toe has on his mobility. Interesting. Yeah, I mean, a lot of us. I think sort of forgot about the toe once he went out. The concussion, but that could wind up being a big factor in the game. And look, Dan. You know, obviously our friend, Mr Hambo, he and I did one of our essays on December 11th. I went back and looked at it. December 11th. We did an essay that said the Buffalo bills. The team with the best chance to beat Kansas City. They have the combination of things that they do They give them the best chance. So let's say Mahomes does play. How do you see this game? Yeah. I mean, the big question is going to be how Buffalo's defense stops. It's not just Travis, Kelsey, Kelsey and Tyree kill when they're on opposite sides of the ball. No put Chelsea by himself and put Terry kill on the other side inside it that number three slot receivers. Buffalo's defense is going to get stressed, and so how well and how disciplined can they play that? Against that dynamic offense, and then how consistently patient will patch up the hole to play it. They're going to play with two. Hi Stacy's now also what Clyde? Every dealer help. He was obviously a huge, huge part in that week. Six game they're going to need to run the football effectively in this game against the defense that has been a place very patient against them. So That'll be a big part. And then you know, with Buffalo offensively, I'm gonna say something very similar. Josh out a week six when he played against Ken City was impatient. He tried to win the golf tournament on Thursday. Green, so to speak, and you know you can't win it on Thursday, but you could lose it. And it almost seems that way in the first quarter, you can't win in the first quarter, but you can lose it and his impatience to play born football to play small ball showed up. And so he's gonna have to do that, like he did against indeed. And then what? When he does that it gives step on Dig the opportunity to get into man coverage situations. There's no one in the NFL that is covered in in man coverage this year, so Both quarterbacks. Playing really disciplined will be a big part of it. Then you know, I would. I would love to sit here and say that I think Buffalo will win this game. This will be a great football game. I don't see any way where Pat Mahomes loses this game if he relatively healthy, I don't see him allowing this in football team to lose. I sort of agree with you. And the other thing that I don't see from Buffalo is balanced the time of possession and ball controlling all of that. They didn't run the ball at all this passkey against Baltimore, and I mean that literally. They had zero rushing attempts in the first quarter. They're running backs wound up with nine carries for 29 yards. They can't do that against Kansas City, right? Yeah, No, not at all. I mean, it's because because it Kansas City is going to play a patient defense play too high safety. With Matthew and Thornhill back. There are storms and back there. Yeah, you can still throw the ball against that stuff. But it's more difficult, right? And so when you when the Defense committee numbers to the past games you as an offense How to win that rep. When it comes to your run game and so exact boss who's really the backup tailback, but a big part for Buffalo being out You have the chance to show itself. The Singletary's gonna have to carry the load of it may be really awesome designed quarterback run. And then the last thing I'd say about the game is this green and I think everybody knows how highly I think of Josh Alan. I've been on him since a week to this year and put him into the M V p conversation and he obliged. The only like hesitation. I have it, he said. Multiple moments when he gets into that YOLO type of thought process in the fourth quarter, and he gets really aggressive with the football and in the pocket. It hasn't hurt him. He's had a couple fumbles this year and it hasn't hurt his football team when it comes to the wins and losses. Like I get scared that he's going to try to do something incredibly heroic un's that fourth quarter off fumble happened and that could swing the ball game Green and Dan Orlovsky with me to see him every day, four o'clock eastern time.
