Derek Jeter Is Intrinsic to the Story of Baseball

"Era, baseball is a story, beginning to end. You can not tell the story of a baseball that Derek Jeter's extremely meaningful contributions. He owns signature moment after a signature moment. If you're not a fan of the Yankees, I understand why you wouldn't want to watch them again. I don't want to watch David Ortiz's home runs, but Derek Jeter is intrinsic to the fabric of the game from 1995 to roughly 2012. He deserves to be celebrated. He would be and I'm gonna go one, I'm gonna go one more here. People say Jeter wouldn't be celebrating the same manner if he played in Kansas City or Milwaukee. I'm gonna go another level and say he would be much more celebrated if he'd played against the city or Milwaukee and was just as great. Do you see what they say about George Brett? He is the leader of an entire generation of fans for the entire Midwest. People think George Bret is unimpeachably a God. If they're generated play one of these small cities and won one to two World Series surrounded by good teams in these tinier baseball towns, he would be he would be the first 101 percenter Hall of Famer. He suffers from being a Yankee because people have Yankee fatigue. That's my hottest take it and I'm putting that on you. Do you agree or disagree? I agree with CCC Matthew played a half season with the brewers and he's still a legend there. Like he's gonna get a statue. Yeah. Derek Jeter, I mean, it's hilarious because now all of a sudden when people have whole definitive Hall of Fame cases and it's someone you don't like. Then we're gonna dive into the contrarian statistics. And we're gonna look at advanced defensive stats and how they weren't that great. And why that should knock him down a peg as one of the all time greats. I and that's the same people who will argue that that, you know, if you don't have enough championships, why do you deserve to be in the hall fame? It's just every argument is to satisfy the

"And they have their problems. Although here's the new suicide squads funny. I hear it's good. I'm gonna watch it. I could figure out where to where to find it. But you see what i'm saying. We make these guys. The media does when you say. The media doesn't matter jokers doing his thing. He's playing at a high level but because the national media and the nba doesn't want to get behind him. You as a fan thinking games. Not sexy yet. Tim duncan we just love him because he's so quiet you never know what he's thinking he just goes out there and quietly gets the job done surgical and they loved it. Joker is not as quiet as tim. Duncan he makes crazy passes behind the back everywhere and yet. He's not sexy. We don't like to see that. Noobs has lebron must have said no about the nuggets playing on christmas. I mean look at it. They were pushing for steph curry to be the mvp. Why why because he made threes again steph curry's great. He's a hall fame basketball player. There's no doubt nba fan by the way. But what was the most valuable he was he that valuable when you were playing team. That's what frustrates me. I suppose i'm looking at the christmas games. These are playoff teams. But you've got. What atlanta and the knicks that to boston and milwaukee. Okay you gotta play team. Golden state was a play in team last year. Playing the sons. I'm not saying that going to be bad games. You got dallas playing the jazz. Why in the hell wouldn't make denver at utah. Nets lakers another team with the lakers. You gotta be kidding me with. This of course nets lakers the prime time. That's the number one because you got atlanta new york playing at twelve. Pm eastern. You've got boston. And milwaukee playing two thirty eastern golden state and the sons. Get a pretty good slate there. Five o'clock eastern and the nets and the lakers ten thirty eastern is dallas utah. You couldn't have at least put denver in there. that's frustrating. I don't it and again this whole idea. That nicole yokich unsexy enough. He doesn't move the needle game. Are you watching. When rachel nichols talked about. It said She talked about the defensive side. She said what i don't see is he doesn't play defense right. He doesn't play bad defense. He plays fine defense. Is he going to win the defensive player of the your word no but he actually at the end of the year i mean he's moving his hands around a lot he's he's getting steals is getting basketball's that turn into steals so i mean you can't use that against him because if that were the case then i mean a lot of guys wouldn't win. Mvp i guess you just gotta go do it again. I'm just telling you guys it's weird if you're not all about that media life you're not tweeting nonstop or you're doing something you're doing something that's kind of like social justice up serious because you tell me why jamal murray who definitely is all about the social media. He has a great social media..

"Team that has a lot of five power with them alongside caleb and bob a and Neymar definitely going to be a team. Look out for in the champions league and can we talk about this going forward here with you guys but that further do let's get into the twenty one hall of fame pro football hall of fame inductees so starting off You had drew pearson a wide receiver dallas. Cowboys play with them from nine thousand. Nine hundred seventy three to nineteen eighty-three. He was a former coach Former coach a quarterback who made the cowboys as an undrafted rookie wide receiver. He was the only first team selection to the all decade team of the nine thousand nine hundred seventy s who had not been enshrined in the hall of fame like many other senior finalists. His career had be looked at had to be looked at in the context of era given that his fifty eight catch catches in nineteen. Seventy six and eight hundred seventy yards in nineteen ninety. Seven led the league three time all pro wide receiver seventeen yards cabs in five seasons and including four of his first five years in the league and during a speech he said i quote out of vegas afro in the. Nfl point pointed to his bus while he said this This confirms it. The wait is over is over the original on number eight being presented for enshrinement in the pro football hall of fame Guess what strong hearts on. Just keep going in. That's why i'm standing here on the steps of the pro football hall fame. So definitely touching heartwarming to see pearson his career and everything and how that developed and now he is now on the pro football hall of fame so congrats to pearson. Then next up here. We have Tom of floors out of oakland. Sasa boss angeles raiders played with them from nineteen seventy nine to nineteen eighty-seven and he also played with the seahawks from nineteen ninety two to nineteen ninety four as a player assistant coach and a head coach in his pro. Football career on floors has four super bowl rings and one. Afl championship to his credit on floors and hope and hall of famer mike ditka or only people in nfl history who have been super bowl winners as players. Assistant coaches and head coaches on his time. The raiders included. The two super bowls wins and the in three postseason record for a seventy two point seven percent of one percents that ring him Behind only vince lombardi. So obviously when you're surrounded. Lightnings with. Vince lombardi mike ditka and company. You certainly have to be in the hall pro football hall fame and in this case with floors you know he and my dick out. Only people in nfl history said to win. Super bowl is only players but also assistant and a head coaches wall so definitely shows you. How high of a football mind floors is and in his uh speech speeches said that about the reason. I'm here in the reason on second in the program tonight is eighty four years old. I have to go to bed at nine o'clock. He said his speech. Where's my pillow so obviously Hen joking around and everything during his acceptance speech and like i said it on when you're surrounded by like mike ditka and vince lombardi. It's only a matter of time to your inducted into the pro football hall of fame. The next up a name that pretty much everyone knows in the football world peyton manning quarterback who played for indianapolis coach from nineteen ninety. Eight to two thousand eleven. Then play for the denver broncos from two thousand fifteen or twenty twelve to two thousand fifteen obviously the resume. Monday most one the most decorated players. Manning was a five time. Mvp fourteen time pro bowl selection seven time first team. All pro selection who want to bowls as well Held held the nfl record for passing touchdowns with five hundred and thirty nine and also passing with seventy one thousand nine hundred forty yards and quarterback starts one by team with one hundred eighty six which is tied with with brett farve Single season records of five thousand. Four hundred seventy seven passing yards and fifty five todd sound in twenty thirteen with the broncos. Still stand to this day. I wanna talk about a speech he said and i quote Tonight's speech is ultimate. Hurry hurry going. Back to his Cow where he was trying to speed up offense or try to get the defense jump off side. Yo said hurry hurry. So it's funny to see him say that acceptance speech ready rabe lose. That is just finished giving his speech until or just finished giving his speech and he started in two thousand eighteen so obviously manning starting off jokes pretty early. I think it's pretty cool to be on the same team. Jon a united and swindon semi a bog and he said dad. There's no way out rather have or be more appropriate to To present here of jim ursa indianapolis coach mike. Gratitude to you is off the charts. Pat bolan the bowl and family and the devon browser organization. You took a chance on me at a crucial time in my life. And i'll never forget it. The future of the game is ours is shaped. We need to take tomorrow on his shoulders as easily as we've done on our paths for games. Dob bless you and god bless football. So it's really a touching speech. Funny speech of all the above peyton manning. Obviously we used to some his speeches and his iconic at the espy's when he told kevin durant out here is going to be of the next person on the on. The woman axiom obviously jordan about implying along with the motive that kevin durant joined Seventy three and team after losing to them at three one series. Yada yada yada. Everyone knows that. But i tend today. I'm so sad to see on. Paid a manning still not being league anymore obviously. He's a lot older now but He definitely brought along some remote remarkable memories down the way Obviously his time in denver was time to be alive and his time at the colts to was found to be alive as wall. And then moving on here. You have john lynch safety who played for candidate buccaneers from ninety. Three two thousand and three in denver broncos from two thousand four two thousand seven his resume on the san francisco forty niners general manager was a nine time pro bowl selection as player to time first team all pro of selection at a super bowl winner. A high A highly recruited baseball prospect. To was once a second round pick of the marlins he developed into one of those best safeties. He had a eight eighty tackle. Season including eighty tackles and two thousand six at eight.

Oh my gosh all right well. This is another year round beer offering from them. The magic is in their masterful combination of hops. That create this ridiculously good. A the strange thing is how they get as much of it as they do into cans before drinking it all themselves. Ha ha okay. Six point five percent ab ab and they are using warrior mosaic simcoe pellet citra and leaf and cry you. Oh wow so. They're using all versions of the hall. This is this might be the best one so far. There's a couple. I mean there might be five stretching. The louis is gilded. Yes when it comes is confusing definitely dead. Are you telling me that i'm dead. Or is the lily debt. Just this topic. Whatever so. Today's episode is a brewery takeover of fat heads bureau mike and which originated in pittsburgh pennsylvania but has now moved to hieaux. One is based in ohio. That would probably make those guys bad when five parts of the state does pitch as pennsylvania's only state where the east and west sides hate each other's much. You guys obviously do. We don't hate each other. Do you look down on them. Though i look now stay very different. Says this air. The great thing about my home state is the uniqueness of the east side and the west side. they are two completely different. So when did you decide to run for office. Am trying to be nice. But it's not see that's the cool thing is like it's got some sweetness to but it does. The sweetness.

Hall of Famer, 49ers great Fred Dean dies at 68

"News today. The big story of the day. Fred Dean has passed away. The Hall of Famer and former former 40 Niner great at the age of 68 was due to Cove. It 19 And for those who haven't heard, I want you to talk a bit more about him. But the NFL hall fame tweet this out that it was great his Hall of Fame speech and you're gonna hear Eddie D. And here is well, take a listen. I could consider being born by the truck. But having a renewal life with 49 being would afford it. I found it on the other side of that bridge on the other side. Wass rainbow, true ending of a rainbow. You know, Fred never said much. He was a quiet giant. But when the defense needed him to make a big play way, look to Fred and never let us down. Never no matter what the situation Wass. It's come time to put Fred Deans spectacular career. In historical perspective. First off, he was a pioneer. He was the forefather of the great high Bridge edge pass rushers. He led the way from players like Derek Thomas. Our own Charles Haley. Great Andre Tippett was being inducted today with Fred. And I'd like to say to the returning. A lot of vintage players were winded, please. I'm honored to be with such an elite group of guys is so important. The bottom line is I know I'm not going to cry. Ladies and gentlemen, it is my great honor, which I carry out with enormous personal pride present for induction. Intothe Pro Football Hall of Fame. Quiet, giant natural, great friend. I like to say to all those Here from from rusting. From Beauty college free. I just want I want all my brothers and sisters in price. I was well done. Ah, Eddie here call him the quiet giant and he has such a great Hall of Fame speech. I love and that kind of stuff happens is great. Wow. On how much else to say Eddie was At the induction. Just the words were perfect and, you know When you lose people now can you even have Ah Memorial of Hyun Roh? Howdy eulogized people of so many of our great you're dying and all the sports and Kredyt directly from covert 19, which is Makes it really sad but And he said it all. I mean, he just changed football and you look back on that trade. There was made and in our friend Dan Pfoutch. Maybe listening. He never got to a Super Bowl. He came close, and probably the closest was that year. What if she incline does not trade Fred Dean? To the 40 Niners. For the 40 hunters, you know, go to the NFC championship game in the catch and all that. And in front of the other side of it If the Chargers keep Fred Dean You know, Maybe that game is not at the Ice Bowl in Cincinnati. Maybe it's in San Diego. It's a home game. So Amy look at who won the Super Bowl. That year. That was a trade between two of the top four teams that went to the final 4 40. Niners won the conference championship won the Super Bowl because of Fred Dean. And the Chargers did not. So that's just one of those trait. I mean, you look at it. It's one of the biggest trades in the history of pro football and that it set the 40 Niners upto win again and again and again. And he was on the first two. So it's just a change history. There's no doubt about it. Yeah, a great tribute, Tio, Fred Dean and again, you can see that online. You can see Obviously the audio's really moving, But you could go online Social media today Twitter. And you can check it out onto the NFL Hall of Fame and really well done in a tribute to Ah, Fred Deans. There

"We are the only podcast and the whole Internet that counts. I am one of your host Jesse Jackson and joining me. Today is Scott Junior and filling in the guests share doing eight absolutely great job Bob who I asked Dave thank you thank you Chris Bob Yeah so <hes> junior. I believe you have a topic for us so we recently just got done with the N._F._l.. Draft and we had the nominees for the next N._F._l.. Hall fame <hes> to go into next year so I thought it would be a good idea to kind of look back at all of the great n._F._l.. Players most of them are in the hall of fame. Some aren't <hes> I compiled a list of the Great Info players that have never won on a super bowl so a lot of these people will have made it to the Super Bowl maybe multiple times but they never actually got over the Hump and actually one though the entire thing so I have a baseline of about forty nine fifty people so dave you have a question. Are you strictly staying with Super Bowl so not pre N._F._l.. Championship type people yes. I'M GONNA go strictly super bowls and so in this is kind of dealer's blurs choice on if we think someone is a great place a great player deserve to now like I said a lot of these players are in the hall of fame so there even though we may not think they were that great. Obviously somebody tail like Tony Romo very controversial though since it retired has been beloved <hes> I've always liked Tony Romo good player but I don't know if I would put him in the list of great players layers.

That's why he was such a great fielder because he was waiting for you to hit the ball back to him. Maddox Clemens Carlton Don Sutton. Tom glavin got imagine that, you got over six hundred wins between glavin and Maddox and no no hitters. But these are these guys with three hundred wins. And there's there's quite a few of that. Never threw a no hitter. Brian in New York joins us. Hi, brian. What do you have for me? Danny six feet. One ninety seven. Just curious if, if you were to play professional sporting event against your brother. How much smack would you talk to them? I don't know if I would if it was on a professional level Brian, because, you know, it would be business. But, but if I'm in the backyard, and I'm playing one on one with my brother may, whether whether it's baseball or basketball, then, you know, I'm going to have some, some smacktalk. I don't know of Steph and Seth had any smacktalk I'm gonna guess they didn't last night. That's one of those where you wait until the off season. And then Seth can say, hey, you know what I picked your pocket? I'd four steals against you in then Steph, just says scoreboard, but at least, you know, you get a moment, if you're Seth curry going against your brother, but with my brothers, probably not in the moment, you know, if it was on this level, with this stakes this, I know I don't I don't think so, mclovin. Final results of the poll question, would you let a PD user into the MLB hall fame? Fifty nine percent say no. Yeah, it seems like that's the way it's going NFL guys are gonna get in, and they'll be won't. Well, I'm waiting for a whole to say if in the hall of fame can say this, the baseball hall of fame could say this because they, they run the hall. They could just say, hey, here's the deal if you test positive you're not, we don't want you in the hall of fame now there's no rule. But, you know, the hall of fame looks at it and says, this is a museum. I know we get caught up in numbers. I do. I certainly did. I always wanted. Hank Aaron to be protected because it felt like there were guys who were cheating, and Hank Aaron to me was just consistent throughout his career. Never hit fifty home runs. He had three thousand hits. He didn't play in big media markets. He played in Milwaukee, Atlanta, and for some reason, I wanted to protect Hank Aaron nobody else. It was Hank Aaron I always thought about when bonds was hitting all these home runs. And I thought Hank Aaron is still the all time home run champ in my opinion. And I look at these numbers. They're not treasured numbers anymore to me. I don't get caught up in if Jean Carlos Stanton hit sixty whatever I don't care. No, all appreciate it. But, you know, there's always skepticism that I'm going to have. But as far as the hall of fame if you wanna put him in, I still believe, in telling the story of baseball and the hall of fame if you wanna put bonds in there was he a great player. Everybody admits even though I think there's a fault to this logic a hall of Famer before he cheated. No, you're you're, you're based. You know, your accomplishments is your body of work here. It's not you know half of it. He was hall of Famer you don't get into the halfway hall of fame here. And so sponsor a hall of Famer because I believe he used steroids at the end of his career..

"I asked him his thoughts about Pat Tillman as a player and is a person, but he showed in different courage all together to do what he did talk about that. Anytime we talk about that. You're not talking about a guy who who had a four three forty and you know, jump out the building and was super strong and all these things pets edges always been. His mental toughness has always been his courage you as always been his style of play just being reckless. That's always been his age. And I think that's the thing that, you know, anyone who's played against you know, you know, when you come across the middle. You better be ready, but have you test because he's coming to get you. Any time you play against players that you have to have respect because that's a part of the field that if you don't control the middle and have someone back there who demands respect it's going to be a long day for your corners. Rob Moore talking about Pat Tillman coming over the middle. You'd better have your chins drought. Buckled. I talked in fact frequently back in the day with pats coach Bruce Snyder, he was head coaching Zona state. He shared his thoughts on Pat, Pat acting on his beliefs. You said yourself you learn more from him than he did from you. I'm not sure I've ever heard coach say that. Well, it it. It is true case where I think that the lesson that his legacy to me. Anyway, would be that. If you have if you have a belief, if you have whatever it is that makes sense to you go, do it depan those things that you know, you should do and are responsible to do that. What do that? That's. Well, you know, I'm used to guys I thought that great job of interacting, and I think you had an appreciation for him. And I know he did for you. He was a guy that intellectual, but intellectual sense that it was only worthwhile to be an election. If you did something, and he he he certainly acted on his patriotism for United States and putting his neck on the line, which he I think he used the word butter as or something. But that's what he wanted to do. And he did it. That's mazing, Bruce, neither who was his coach said he learn more from Pat Pat from him. Chris Collins came on the show in two thousand nine and made the point that Pat Tillman absolutely should be in the hall fame certain special people that I think along in pro football hall of fame, and to me, I you could take all the great football. Get the argument back the other way. Well, then we've gotta take OJ Simpson out of the hall of fame if it has to do with character and all those kinds of she's no you don't and you can get in being a great football player. You can get in being a great owner. You can be get in being a great Commissioner. So why is it that we exclude somebody who's done something? So great that represents all of us in the National Football League. In such a special way. I mean here is a guy. I know there were guys in World War Two that left to go by the war. And I certainly appreciate them too. But this is a different day and age this age now when you have millions of dollars sitting on the tape. Table. He could be set up for life. He could be living in his veto when he finally gets finished with his career. And instead he gave up all of that. Because it was very likely that something that have happened where he could have never come back and played he gave up all of that that cushy life for the rest of his life leaving a game that he obviously loved to go fight for our country, and ultimately pay that ultimate price. Now, if you're telling me that guy doesn't deserve a special place in the hall of fame that I'm to argue with you for a long time because I think that he does Chris Collins making the argument that should be in the hall of fame. I've got more, but I won't play. Just one more soundbite for stations along the way. Eric burns came on our podcast recently..

If if he cared about money, let's say if he were to sign a five year deal. Okay. Right. Ran you make more money a one in one you're not necessarily making more money. Okay. So let's throw that out. Where would give him the best teammates the best chance to win question. It's Golden State. I mean, that's where he's going to win about to win another time. Where would you wanna live pretty nice up in the bay? But in they're going into a brand new building, New York's pretty cool. Yeah. As as somebody pointed out, you know, you get to the Eastern Conference finals, you're you're king of New York. And most of all okay as we're seeing with the Lakers because we've got a lot of turnover, right? Organizational stability, if it matters to you. The warriors would probably be very. Ranked one the Knicks would probably be thirty. Yeah. No, they're mess. So why why leave sadly we? Yeah. I mean, I think he's leaving. Yeah. I need to I think he wants a new challenge and he's leaving. But those are all really good reasons to stay. Yeah. They are. So if he stayed would you be shocked? Yes. I I would be shocked. If they win it does that increase or decrease the chances of staying crease, take your your third. Yeah. Thanks for playing three rings, maybe three finals MVP's and on your way, you go actually today. He's out saying, I I really hope might number gets retired with Golden State that was that you told me that right? Maybe maybe in twenty years. Yeah. But why why all the sudden is he talking about getting his three straight finals MVP's? Yeah. Probably. Yeah. I mean, no, no matter what you go to hall fame, and you want three rinks your your number's going to be. But why are you talking about right now? Why are you suddenly after game one of the first round of the playoffs talking about hoping your number gets retired for the warriors? It just to me. It's just another tell it's just to tell if you're saying, you don't think about that. I'm going to ask the audience to do something. What is it coming up next? It's something you bad mood, by the way, something you've already done, and you will agree with me that the audience should do it. Okay. I'll tell you what it is now. It's interesting this past week Super Bowl Julieta llmann wins MVP and there's little chatter here. And they're like oh want that guy suspended for PD's? But the NFL policies a lot different. You don't really find out? What he did you don't find in our sport. It's obviously a lot different. But at this point, you feel the same way about Anderson like you cringe, when people say it's the return of the goat. He's one of the grace of all time has his legacy, regardless of what he does from here on out will ever be tainted in your opinion. Jeff, you know, what? My what has changed for me is not so much opinion of civil my opinion about PD's. I think that you know, this whole we mentioned John Jones here. The this whole John Jones. Circus that went on in vodka, and California and all that and all the other fighters lesser lesser known and less the fighters who couldn't afford to to put up all the legal challenges that John Jones that. All this stuff is really made me have a lot more doubts about what people are being tested for. And what these tests really mean? And and you know, whether somebody's doing something intentionally or not doing it intentionally. And so I guess I'm I'm feeling a lot less black and white about that than I did if we were having this conversation year or two ago, and I know we've had we've had these conversations. And and you know, and I've always been a guy who said, you know, if you're cheating, you're cheating, but I feel like there's so much gray area. Now in this PD thing that that. Yeah. Of course, there's going to be a little bit of a taint to him just because it was a tattoo him. But Anderson Silva did amazing things during his during the prime of his career. And those things are they're still my memory those have not gone away. That's what I'm going to remember this guy for so what do you say? So if I would have ask you this question a year ago different answer than today. Probably I was a little less. Feeling a little less cynical about about the whole PD testing policy. I I had a lot of issues. I mean, you, and I know we've talked to this. I've I've always is another one eighty last week on holy one. Just was something that I wasn't as I used to my big complaint used to be about when they tested somebody that we didn't see the results fast enough. And so they would test someone today. And then they fight the guy fights on Saturday. And then we the results on Tuesday. And I didn't like the fact that like I said on the last time I was on this podcast when I go to the doctor and get a physical and get blood work done. How come I could get my results Email to the next morning? Why is that possible for me? And it doesn't happen in this sport this multimillion dollar sport. So that's where that was always been my complain about about the the process, but now starting to really have some doubts about what it really means. When somebody is found to have a substance in their in their body. So I'm I'm not going to say that, you know, anything goes it should be. You know, just whatever you want your body and just go for it. But I'm starting to have a little bit of a little bit of doubts about about. You know, what it really means when somebody is suspended for six months or something. So in other words, you had vote Barry Bonds Roger Clemens Mark Maguire into the hall fame. This new Jeff this Lucy. Jeff, I'm not a vote. I don't vote for hall of fame here saying you would though, but we're asking. Yeah. I don't know. Wow. That's great. I. That's a whole new. We can all change. We can all Volve. I'm never gonna leave off. No this. We're breathing. A microphone for the next forty five minutes, and he just got the deal with it. What do you think? Phil my opinion on Anderson Silva hasn't changed. But it was for Jeff secondary point..

"The next psychic friends network is so good and Tony is predicting right now that I'm lifting this one. The Tony Romo should open up his own ribs joint college Roma's ribs. All right. And it should be just every rib should be broken. So so I wanna talk about because you're a baseball guy too. And I know you know, it be not to. But I know, you know, a shit ton about baseball because this was just announced was the hall fame induction big class this year. Let's let's let's talk about that a little already gone over the Harold Baines of it all which is. Yeah. I mean, which is just crazy that like everybody in the hall of fame is like you've now just made this way cheaper. You've cheapened it by putting Harrow Baynes at well. Herro Baynes Hera Baynes what he's basically in as a pinch hitter. Isn't it? I mean Webster in before him share. But you know, look. On jeopardy was good. He wasn't great to me hero Baines is like Jim Edmonds. What I think is interesting about this year is that basically the writers of years ago where like we not gonna put anyone in from slights starts. And then this you were like, oh, no one for sowards. Yeah. 'cause like Barry Bonds not being in is very not being in and then not being punishment, by the way, it's a punishment for both those guys because the truth of the matter is, and I think they should be punished until their final year of the eligibility. Nata village ability of the. The veterans thing I think they should be punished that long because the truth matter is bare bones, you should be punished why because without steroids. You would have been one of the greatest players of fee. Nationally, Ken Griffey would have been five hundred home runs. Four hundred five hundred home runs. He would have had five hundred stolen bases. He would hit three thousand two thousand RBI. Also, if you look at the voting trends, it's not a steroids. Devalues those players. It has devalued the home run home run statistics, even for players who have not one who have not been proven to have used steroids like Andrew Jones entered owns four hundred. Okay. So we're on this list of this Email chain, which on this thing before with tons of old athletes. Tons of like, it's I tell me Andrew Jones is on your Email. He's not on. But like some big Reggie Jackson's been in like been invited. Mike Ditka's been in in this list of allowed schwa- Schwab. And I think so it's like a it's a weird mix of right wing and left wing. It's. It's fascinating. We choose to stay on. Chooses down. Even though we at times get into deep deep fights with social sure, but we just got into discussion today someone my bar, buddy. "I was adamant about redshirt him as a freshman because we had to ball shared and Greg Rome. Yes, we had a bunch of guys Mick Williams played in the NFL and. It was probably a week into training camp when our of line coach Gregg to two so came up to me. And he said if you've been watching Aaron Donald says, yeah, I said he made some plays. And he says coats. We gotta play him. We gotta get him in the rotation. He says I don't think we can redshirt him. So we ended up playing them, and he he played forces a true freshman just want to ask you you mentioned Russell merrily obviously around a bunch of great defensive lineman Cortez Kennedy. When you're at Miami was this massive guy, you had you know, the guys you had in Dallas. And certainly the guys around as a as a young coach at Pitt. Now when you watch Aaron Donald is he just because he so freakishly explosive just a different dynamic or is it because the style of play is different. What are you seeing him compared to all the other guys you've been around, you know, what he's more instinctive than any of them? You know, cortege was more powerful. Russell was smart. You know, Russell studied it like a like a quarterback that Aaron Donald. I mean, the guy can be paying. Blocked one way. And he always knows where the football is. And that's something you know, coaches will talk about that at clinics. I'm gonna tell you guys that you don't coach that that's something that you know, is a God if an instinct, and he he watch him run up the field. He knows just when to stop and turn back into the quarterback. He can be coming off the ball on a running play. And he knows exactly does he have to go to his writers left because that's where the football is. So those instincts are something that that I think Aaron has that better than than all those other guys hall fame players, you know, Aaron Donald and today's game. I think you gotta think about this guy's in today's Jayme with the ball being thrown as quick as it is it so hard in my opinion to get sat and for him to put up the numbers that he's putting up. I don't think we're ever see that again out of a defensive tackle. I mean, everything, you know, your tackles aren't even supposed to be your sat guys. So there's a lot of things that this kid does. You know, you better enjoy it. Because you're going to see it very often coach I wanted to get your perspective on coaching in the Super Bowl. You've come on here in the past and told us some great stories about coaching in the Miami Penn State to ball and the infamous three nothing sun bowl. So what can you tell us about what it's like to be there? This was the year the Cowboys just crushed the bills out at the Rose Bowl defensive coordinator. I know it's NFL college. But you know, we see from far, and it just seems like it's a complete spectacle. So it's like to coach in that game. You know, what's interesting is that, and I I've the last guy I think they've put in a rural. I don't know what they call it now. But I actually we had the week off before we played buffalo is you mentioned. And I went out and accepted the job with the bears. Honesty. Jimmy Johnson was not. He was concerned that if I waited till after the Super Bowl that jobs will be filled up. So I would I and I had interviews going on. And I accepted the bears job the week before the Super Bowl had my press conference. So it was so strange because on a I was I was working for head coaching bears in the.

And also that thing where he like leans shoulder into somebody before he takes shot that's an saints that he has been absolutely on fire up sixty one in the mecca something about the mecca. Just bring springs the most out of guys. And here's another one this. I wanted in this. That is insane for another reason. So James harden has now averaged fifty. Points for five games in a row. Yeah. So that's the second. Most all time who's number one will how many will Chamberlain with twenty a hundred sixteen games in a row. Ever. Harms fucking like. Well, that's crazy. Yes, for sure I think my favorite my favorite part of these stories is they always talk about like whenever somebody plays at the mecca. There's like a separate statistic for top scores in the history of the mecca, right? They don't say fuck about the Capital One center. Don't say that about the United Center. They don't say that about the big mecca the giant pyramid. The Amway center. Yeah. It's the mecca. Yeah. They had some boxing matches their he'll Joel also perform their seventy five times Nazi rally. People. Don't talk about that. Oh, I was going to in Madison Square Garden. Yeah. That's right. Limburg spoke. Yeah. People don't talk about the mecca that way. Yeah. True. True fun. Fact, Billy Joel is like five. Oh, yeah. So just thought toss that out there. Okay. That is a fun should have him on the show. Yes. Yeah. Sure. That would help you. Yeah. We we'll get some more. I was on hot streak veto for about five zero. Yes, you you tower over people. All right last before we get to road rules. Larry. We have embraced the beat. Is it impressive? That Mariano Rivera was the first unanimous hall of fame inductee. Yeah. I mean, anytime you can get a bunch of sports writers to just all agree. Anything's decides like this cold cut spread is insufficient Springsteen. Yeah. His best song. That would be another one. Like U2. is the punk rock Bruce Springsteen. That's another one that they like to tag on. Its it is impressive for that fact, except they kicked out all the old guys. So there was a guy who didn't vote for Greg max because he just merely played in the steroid era. I liked that not to this is what we need more Principi stands fucking jackasses. Like, this is this is the most inconsequential the how many what's the percentage that someone gets voted into the hall fame. You have to really be like, I don't even know what what what steps you take in life to get to this point where you're like, oh eighty six percent with the fuck, and I don't trust any modern sports writers because they're writing in the Adderall era. Yes. It's like there's a lot of PD's going on through who who knows Bob Ryan might be on might be on those happy pills. There's a Starbucks on every corner. That's true. It's caffeine is a drug back in the day. They wouldn't have that. No yet to send your in turn out to buy and make it for you. Yes. Exactly have seven possible for you at all times. It was much tougher back. Then I would love to hear from someone who cares about how the not who gets in the whole fame. That's fine. I agree. Like, it's interesting debate. Who's in the hall of fame will be very interesting. If somehow Barry Bonds in Iran, Roger comes don't get in the whole theme because they are very much part of baseball history. But talking about the percentage that you got into fame with I need to I need to talk to someone who actually cares about that. I just like to say, I'm opting out of all baseball hall of fame argument. It's for the rest of my life about if XYZ should be in the hall of fame unless it's like about a super superstar. I care about like Barry Bonds, the a-rod, that's right thing. But if you start talking to me about why Harold Baines career stats are insufficient to be a whole..

Go tell because Tom his already says give me a little some. I've good. So you can't go in there and try to think well, I've, but it's great Tom is done done two things. He's helped guys, you know, you stay you make some good money. Let's get suppressed own market because now nobody's going to get market value because Tom has never accepted market value. So that's the expect -tations they expect him to lead. They expect you to follow him. So they also expect you to follow his lead in order to stay. There is to take less than what you would probably make. If you will on the open market, they want you doing rings or cash is just going to say that you want to go to them really want to make more money. I think what Janney at some point in time. I can't eat those rains 'cause you know that man the mortgage now even with the government should people won't that mortgage. I need you to make this playmates. That is probably true. Ideas. Okay. We're switching gears for now. Is there any excuse keeping Barry Bonds out of the hall of fame? We'll discuss that with partners. Four players were announced yesterday as baseball hall of famers. But Barry Bonds was not one of them bonds missed out for the seventh year despite being a seven time MVP and the all time leader in home runs. He received fifty nine percent of the vote, which is well below the seventy five percent that is required. We're joined my house fame voter Parker. Good morning to you. I am going to start with skip on this one. Should vaughn's be in. Very launch should have been in hall fame at his first opportunity and allow me to start this even though you are a hall of fame voter because I did cover Barry Bonds for three years in the bay area. Does nothing. More magical didn't go to the ballpark. Almost every night every night. I went on the road with them through all the home on shapes. Those are some of the greatest moments in my career because I've never seen anything quite like that. I've seen Tom Brady do what he did and overtime. But, but this was this is the hardest thing single thing to do in sports. And he did it the best that it's ever been done. That's hit a baseball consistently. When you would see maybe two good pitches. A night table pitches a night, and he would hit them as hard as you could hit them. And it would either hit the wall or over the wall and allow me to tell you why believe he's not in the hall, obviously, he resorted to using PD's in his mind, either leave he had to because he watched what Sosa and McGwire did in the summer of love that he will at is. Correct. And that is correct does to dudes whether baseball wants to knowledge it or not they save baseball. It was nine thousand nine hundred and I covered that whole chase. I was there every single day all the way down the stretch to me, Mark. Maguire wasn't a hall of Famer without PD's very bonds, even without PD the hall of fame. Yes..

We can stuff into the hall of fame all these sorts of great things. Herald fucking Baynes unbelievable. Unbelievable. I that is coming someday. I'm not I'm still not really ready to talk about it. So we have a Cording to this is Ryan tiptoes. Awesome tracker. You can follow him at at not Mr. Tibbs. He does tremendous work. This is so cool that we have access to this stuff. A few polls that I wanted to run by you guys see if they elicit a response we have thirty five percent of ballots known right now. That's one hundred forty four as of right now bonds and Clemens are just below the seventy five percent line at seventy four percent. I feel like I go on this rent every year who is submitting a ballot that has Roger Clemens checked off. But not Barry Bonds. It doesn't make any sense. And what like I would love to know their explanation. Just just give me your reason why Roger Clemens is a hall of Famer Barry Bonds is not. Well, yeah, there's there's nothing for you there there. Sure is and these voters some of them, don't specialize in logic. As we've seen over the years. They've each received a net gain of three votes among returning voters. Roy halladay not just under ninety five percent. He's gotten one hundred thirty nine of one hundred and forty four so far. I mean, I think that's surprising. Right. Surprising that it's that high. If you told me that ROY halladay is getting in on his first year, I'm not surprised at that. But to be ninety five percent on these ballot. So far is not taking anything away from the dock because you to know how much respect I have for that, man. This is the romance side of baseball that I constantly talk about and with this, man. It's okay. It's okay. I don't I don't wanna hear your fucking numbers. I don't wanna hear your argument. I don't based on what the man went through the work ethic and how we applied himself and who he was as a teammate. And as a player. Fuck you and your numbers. Fuck you on your own should be here. But not. Fuck it all ROY halladay, all and it certainly looks like he's headed to that trajectory Mike Mussina at eighty two percent. He's gained fourteen among returning voters. That's a pretty huge development for. Mariano Rivera has received all ballots so far he's at one hundred percent. I think we all know, he won't be unanimous. But do we know that? Yeah. I don't you think you think some asshole is gonna turn into ballot. That doesn't have Mariano Rivera, dude. Every year. I am shocked anew at the behavior voters thing every year that just fucking blows my mind, it's going to be. There are people that have hall fame votes that just don't even cover baseball right now. They've started to weed those guys out, but there's still it's simple still stand because those because that person right there that person's vote they'll look at it and at the beginning of their cocktail they'll be examining the options. But by the end of it, they will have not given a damn about MO and the hundred percent or the fact that they believe you should be a hall of Famer the idea that their vote could go to somebody else to help them and help their cause that is what we'll take away from it..
