"Can be challenging. It was for everyone around me. I was your garden variety. Rebel with DOC MARTIN'S A chip on my shoulder and love for mischief. It wasn't till I ended up on a farm in Vermont that they understood my context to the rest of the world and it took me being immersed in nature to comprehend my relationship to other people and to the universe for every team listening today. I feel your pain being cooped up at home and for every parent okay. Give a teen right now. I have the same advice trying to escape. Even if it's for quick breath of fresh at this week I talked to Doniger Martha God who at fifteen left a note for her mom that she was taking off for the entire summer and back in the full that hitchhiking adventure was only the beginning of a quest that led Doniger to tracking wolves in Alaska. Doniger now runs a regenerative farm in California with family and is the author of dawn again tracking. The wisdom of the wild and the just released book will fail. Finding myself in the wild doniger has also featured in the upcoming movie. Kiss THE GROUND. I catch up with mismarked God to hear her amazing story firsthand. Donga where are you right now? I am in. Half Moon Bay California on our home ranch and It's right right on the coast in between San Francisco and Santa Cruz and it must be. I mean it's a stunning beautiful day. Must feel very kind of remote and isolated from the rest of civilization. Yeah on the ranch and out in nature it's just spring is in full bloom right now. The wild flowers are incredible. The Morning Birdsong. And it feels like when we're out here. There's a huge celebration of life and considering the Horrific things that the world is going through I feel that nature's very resilient and we will make it through this and the journey that brought you to this place is amazing it starts with you in Snoqualmie up and beautiful pot of Washington state in the cascades falling off a horse. Tell us about that experience. It was during a time when I began to question my role in life. Those teenage years where You're beginning to rebel and figure out your own identity and Where you WanNa go with your life and it just sort of woke me up and so I was thrown off my horse when I was getting ready to compete and I was knocked unconscious. And there's this whole segment of my life that I can't recall and during that time I had this experience where I was out of my body looking down at my body in the hospital bed and feeling just this incredible piece and seeing the beauty around me in this sort of alternate reality and after I had that experience things really changed for me and it was during that time that I started noticing more. And maybe these things are all around me. But I started noticing more life that was abundant around me but would also come about show itself in certain times and that were. I couldn't describe it other than synchronicity than just decided to go and he wrote this note deal. Mom saying mom. Don't worry about me. I'll be alright. I'll be back before school starts love Doniger and you just hit it off your sister and a friend had of that occurred you at the time to just feel like I gotta get out of here at felt like wow. This was an opportunity to go on an adventure and do something other than what were sort of programmed to do which is go to school. Get a degree get a job. Enter into the workforce and at that time that wasn't my passions were not being ignited So I was looking for a way for my passions to be ignited and also just to figure out what was out there in the world and it was a very rebellious thing to do and I hope my kids never do that but it showed me a lot of things that were not very positive it could have been really detrimental to my to my future and I'm just thankful I must have had some someone watching over me that I made it safe through putting myself into dangerous situations. I mean I feel very comfortable putting myself in to survival experiences in nature and other things in nature however when it comes to humans I have lost. My trust sounded really exciting. And you know doing things like dumpster diving for all the food you needed but at the same time you assaulted. They really wanted to share that part of my journey because in particular. There's so many young adults out there. Teenagers that go down a really dark path and they their form of rebellion might be sex or drugs and I wanted to share that. That's not always The smart thing to do. And there's other ways that you can feel what it is you're searching for and you can experience life without putting yourself in those types of experiences and doing the things to your body that could be irreversible

"Financial with time and. Class and everything else to. To be able to to systematically chip away at this better you know in in a unique position again with with working in politics. Send. My hope is that. That peer group that I work with on the political side that that this. This really motivates. That that peer group because you know it's, it's really the people in power who need to be looking at universal basic income, and you know how. How is it that they're saying that they can find places for people without a house to be now, but they couldn't have all long. How is it that we can feed people now, but we couldn't all right. Healthcare I mean? How is it that that they're saying oh? Yeah, you know anybody can go in and get a Tassell. That was never true before So you know, I'm starting to see certainly here in the bay area. which is you know a lot of the? People I work with Bay area or certainly California campaign I also have some North Carolina campaign, so so it's two different worlds, but But. Certainly the bay area. I'm seeing that. That the people who have the power are are more on that progressive side and more able to start to look at how we're going to. Make these things systematically better for people going forward But but this is definitely I think reenergized me and. My children to? To really look at. Keeping all the core with try to make things better in escalating. I think. Than sewing that I notice, too. Is that all these things that I mean especially in the states you know and in Canada's? While all these things that everyone was like look. We need to do this and everyone's GonNa. We can't like everything all pardon what? The communist state or whatever? It'll be anarchy like that's a bad thing, yeah! Of the country will tattered on. And this comes around and starts. You know finally like the majority's spacing it and it's like all right. Okay, you know in Canada. They were like. Student loan payments are being forgiven her like pushed ahead. And now there's what is sort of a version of basic income I mean they were doing I think they started doing it testing population about it, but it's not exactly like on a yet to be passed. Now, the government's like all right. We're going to give you know I mean people are falling through the cracks like freelancers and everything but it's SORTA talked about right. I mean obviously the healthcare thing in states is one of the big ams. Is You know as much as Canada like there are issues of their healthcare system at least. If people WANNA. Go get a test. They get sick. They're not like ten thousand dollars. In debt just because they got an incredibly infectious disease. So again. That's something that I've been kind of focusing on to. Is that I hope? You know out of this. People be like you know what maybe those weird lefties were handsome had a good idea there that this. Safety net isn't necessarily gonNA lead the like the collapse of our country. It does does seem like it's just a sort of very basic. Idea and and for me it's it's frustrating I..

Was Pretty early, and has been pretty good about trying to put measures in place so they've been increasing as you go along, and his people aren't following the rules, then they put more and So, we've all been home for about a month I think he might be exactly a month the schools are closed until. Next year. So. School school around here starts late, August so as far as we know. Kids are going back to school mid late. August but we don't really know You know it just sort of week by week, They! were. Allowed to go out only for exercise in essential tasks I feel like that people are probably pushing it with the exercise. Ling is where he discussed a minute ago, but you know I. get it. I AM critical, but also I get to live next to the beach so exercise for me means I Gino. Would it mean for somebody else? Exercise means walking around a city block. That's not so fun Yeah you know and then With the essential activities, if you go to the grocery store or hardware store anywhere, that's allowed to be open. You have you're required to wear a mask and gloves. and. We got emails this morning saying that they were going to start. enforce did this is our grace period and they're gonNA. Start enforcing that with fines. And Possible Arrest on the twenty second so great Tuesday or Wednesday. Yeah. That's you know and I feel like that. That's. Pretty typical, but I know that there is other states in the country, and other. Areas Out of the country where they stop, were they didn't do the social distancing until much later and I'm not sure every state even is right now. Question Mark Question Our guy. They give I. Red State, or a blue state right so. Yeah I've definitely I mean I haven't been keeping like total track of all the states, but the overall news I've been getting from the states is that it's kind of a mix you know some places are already now talking, but all right. We're GONNA open up in. The economy again in other places just say you know I. Mean California in general I think he's been pretty tight and obviously like New York. State is going through kind of the worst of it from what I known, so they're not in any way being like all right next week. We're Kinda. But yeah, it definitely seems like it's a bit of a mix. So in terms of I know you have one kid, right? I've got one. Well. I've got three kids, but I've got one kid who is of school age. Lives here with with me and not got an older one is. I mentioned. WHO'S IN SEATTLE? He's thirty than I have a college age. Son Who is home sheltering in place with us. So yeah, and and you know so so we were sort of running the gamut. My my thirty year old is the director of volunteers at a homeless shelter in Seattle. So some stuff. That's coming out of there. They're having A. Hard time making some decisions and figuring out how they're going to serve everybody. And then, and then my middle son might twenty three year old. We really don't know day-to-day if he's going to be going to. College again in the fall You know it senior year, so this is going to. "But the latest one which I have very mixed feelings about is that the police are now pulling people over and looking at driver's licenses to see if you live in this area. You know which. The part of me that's that's terrified when I go to take my exercise in there. Is You know fifty people on the beach trail? Is You know kind of relieved that we're trying to get rid of that? The social. Justice pointed for people who don't have houses. you know. Where are they going to be? If every community keeps saying Oh, you can't be here. You can't be here and he can't be here. This is not a solution. It is not sustainable, and beyond the fact that it's quite scary. That being told the people can be fined or even arrested. For! Being in the wrong place. And I think I mean here in Vietnam obviously I a technically shouldn't even be critical of the government because. They're. All have. Their consequences But it has been interesting to see I mean in the neighborhood. I feel like a lot of people are not complying, but there hasn't been like. This mass uprising of protests in everything because. It's you know protesting isn't really a big thing here because there's repercussions that are pretty serious But I feel like in some ways and depending on. If you believe the numbers, in China are not like that sort of one state party thing led to maybe some of these regulations, everything being listened to a little better. We're just kind of like. Okay, we'll do that whereas when it went over to the West, you know people are like within a week. Everyone's like this has to end now like you can't tell me what to do I have my freedoms and that it on sale. Yeah, I mean. It was the same thing in the West Coast Canada in like Easter, break came around, and people are going to their cottage or cabin, or whatever it's like. No, you're supposed to stay home like, but I've also read that I'm. Like here in Vietnam, and obviously in two stars, and one and one hit pretty hard here so I think people also you don't have that in their memory and their dislike, right? We've kind of done this before. Let's do it. We need to do and figure it out and So I. Don't know it's a whole mix, but I was gonNA. Ask you like how..

What am I doing tomorrow to help other people come up with things that you? If you start saying to yourself based on one simple thing use you here. Are you say yourself, ask yourself all these questions? That's an message. It's it's designed to help people recognize your expertise of what you do. As a matter of fact, I do want to read one more. "half moon" Discussed on The Tesla Show
"The lawn in some way were early investors in the company or Ben on the board for longtime, Linda Johnson rice, your veins Murdoch are the most recent editions wasn't Jefferson. The one who had the Half Moon bay cuddle puddle party that loan was Jurvetson is currently on leave from the board Bs or the accusations against him for sexual misconduct type stuff. All those people are up to speed. They they said you could go speak to some investors and report back, and then apparently he tweeted without sort of there. They were expecting. It was going to come back with a proposal and he decided to tweet head of that. So the board was sort of playing catch up. They then issued a statement supporting him, but this has been a continued issue with against the lawn and criticism the company is that they don't have enough independent board members keeping Ilan and check. And so as part of the settlement or sort of the agreement they're gonna need to add to new independent board members and also create a new independent committee to monitor lawns behavior. And because he's no longer the executive the chairman of the board. He will technically not be able to have as much sway on picking the board members or still board CT still has a board. Yes. Just one. Yes. And he could be reelected in three years. If he wanted to and the board wanted to become chairman to be Oregon. Yeah. Well, that's not really much of a penalty. Well, yeah. And the parents the it's pretty common for them to do some sort of reduction of of stature, but it's very unusual for them to bar, you forever or from like having a position any company primarily because the courts have found in my research, basically that four executives of this level that is basically sort of barring them from a living because that's their main specialization. And so it's sort of found to be extremely. Unfair to take someone's livelihood away from them. And the courts are not likely to want to do that was actually quite unlikely that the board or the the courts would have actually barred him from being a CEO of any public company, but he was very concerned that if he took a settlement it would limit space X's, the boring company and his other companies from raising investor capital because he would have the stink of the SEC on him. So the SEC actually gave him a special waiver for his other companies. So there'd be no connection with his other companies. So ultimately the deal worked out pretty well. I mean twenty million dollars for him and twenty million dollars for tesla. Actually, he's going to be buying twenty million dollars a fresh tesla. Shares in cash so tesla won't have like a cash impact from this issue. They're going to have stock. They're going to dilute shareholders a little bit, which is kind of hilarious thinking that. If he ended up buying shares at a lower price, and then the stock pop. As a result of this like good. He actually make money out of. That's gonna short you're going to have a fun time with that. But. That amount of fine is not that big the biggest fine by the SEC. Do you want to guess how big that was ever? Hm? One hundred million almost two billion. Oh, Oh, wow..

I would love to know how the b one was basically, as you may already know in the you took the token thumbs, maybe gutter a slightly different, but I think that they run along the same principles this parts reading, writing, listening and speaking basically, and what happens is on exam day you sort of they run them at various different places like language centers, kind of all over the country and Switzerland anyway, also, and other countries as well. And you go to sort of the center where you've paid your money registered to do the exam. You meet a bunch of strangers. Normally, I guess in a suiting someone you've done a course with and then you just go into in my case, it was quite move them. They give it so proud. And then you just kind of practicing the things that you've probably already done in your course should be familiar if you haven't done. Of course, of course, I'd say, look it up online before and you're just kind of filling in your answers on answer sheet. Everything is timed and then through. Out, you have kind of small breaks in between the separate pots Bundy sort of interesting part, which is quite surprising to me, and I'm glad that I know now before I d my seat one was the speaking of the test. And for this they pay you up with someone else. He's taking the exam. Oh, I see. And you have to go into the rim together and they kind of lay a sort of card of information face down the table, and you have a few minutes to read it and kind of prepare your aunts. And then basically, I think for the b one, you talk about what's on your car today. Have a person. Okay. And then that person has to ask you questions about your sort of present and there is a exterminator in the room? Yes. Most importantly, does person in the corner watching. Okay. It's just very weird because you have to have this kind of fake conversation with someone you diagnose and you're a little bit kind of stress than say, some maybe Steve two things to even drew and look help holiday. I mean, how do they judge? How do they judge. I don't know the exact details, but I think the b one level anyway, they just want you to be able to talk about a topic that you don't know about in advance. Okay. I think that's the kind of important thing to bear in mind

"And by this time sox had already proposed to me on the beach in half moon bay and i had said yes but the whole going down on one knee thing doesn't really mean anything with arabs and muslims because if your parents wouldn't there it didn't happen and so his parents wasted no time they flew in from pakistan for the two law which is kind of like an official ceremony worthy elders from the boy side ask where the girls hand in marriage and considering how serious this was my siblings boycotted not really hurts but this was only the beginning but i noticed my mom soften as soon as sachs his father walked into the door and imagine the stall kind elegant very soft spoken very well mannered man as soon as she saw him she took me aside and she said she turns into his father you'll be fine yet you know they loved that evening without a definite answer in hand just a promise that she would get my brothers onboard the next morning my mom gets on the phone and start lobbying for me like a congresswoman asking for votes but instead they launched a campaign against me i would come home from work and find hotter stories cut and pasted from the newspaper and left for me to consider on the kitchen counter as if they were recipes of lives gone wrong and to make matters worse i was facing this campaign to dump sacks at home and at the same time and the media there was a fully campaign against islam with bushes impending war on iraq i remember my sister called me one day and she said i just heard that there are three d tribe that is his family name at a bunch of drug smugglers and i thought that so absurd because he comes from a family of diplomats i mean some people in his family have literally entertained the queen of england and some people in my family entertain in the garage.
