Taking care of the operating system and the programs that are running in the background is super. Important. And no one could be more well placed than my next guest. He is a serial entrepreneur someone who has been refining his work and message for decades. He is a very accomplished speaker author and influence a WHO. Has Technically died three times. His name. How elrod? I mean, professionally I think author and keynote speaker I. Think those are the two main things that I that I do and if you you can measure that in a few ways one, how much time do I invest in in each of those right in terms of the work that I do that most of my time. Of. My. Work that I've done. What's made the biggest impact for people and arguably it's my books in my my my message is my speeches. and. Then also, what do I enjoy most? and that's actually speaking more than writing writing's kind of pain but Yeah. So those are the I. would say professionally I'm an author and a speaker for the most part and then but more than anything. I, realized more and more every day that I'm a dad and that is my highest priority a husband. But you know I don't get paid for those. In fact, those me a lot of money. Today, we go inside the mind off a creator who used affirmations to cure himself from a very rare aggressive form of cancer acute lymphoblastic leukemia with has attend to thirty percent survival rate. Amongst other things. The things we say to ourselves is Kinda key to our. System and what land up doing in life. Finally the three year old, who is definitely America's strong. It's the moment moving. So many the simple walk to school the three road named Aon, wearing his backpack and remembering the words, his mother taught him at just to what he says to himself over and over again. I'm slept. I. Am Dress. Kim. Island smoking. So do. Blessed I. Just like what we believe about ourselves, and if you haven't considered this going into this volume I'd like you to consider. It's like, so when you look at any. At his growing up. You know their childhood informs their identity and resilience knowledge sector of the why they move in the wild and live in the world. So, we can't look at as strenuous. Who are just it was never. It was never brought in front of it was never part of my schooling. It was Never Panama Circle of friends conversation except what we picked up around the edges in peripheral vision. Through news snippets, Ol-, usually stereotypes that that may not be shining brightly are on our relationship. And not enough knowledge then becomes shared knowledge jointly understood knowledge. So in a way out history is not our common sense. Right so What we think of ourselves, and what we say to ourselves is important. That is key. How has had the most amazing impact on my life seven years ago about a half, a million dollars in debt. I was looking for anything that would change situation. I was in. During that time, one of the most influential books and concepts that made me start waking up early in the morning is the concept of the miracle morning. It is a practice that I do to this day. And it is well how the miracle morning practice, which is made up of these six practices known by the acronym. S. E R s the sabres. That's how I'm able to do that in the morning and set myself up with the right mindset to go throughout the day and even have a bad day. It's like instead of having one bad day flow into another bad day flow into another day and kind of have a downward spiral. The miracle morning allows me to hit the reset button every every day. Right. Really every night before bed because instead of going to bed word on my problems and looking forward to face him in the morning I, know that I. I get to wake up and I get to put myself in a peak physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual state utilizing that miracle morning practice, and so for me, the savers which, Freeman. That's not familiar. The SS for silence, that's your meditation and or your airtime. The A is for affirmations which are kind of have a bad rap, the way they've been taught. taught a lot of self help gurus. They're not goofy like you don't just pump yourself up and SAM amazing. They're articulating your highest commitments and clarifying the behaviors and the actions that will ensure that you achieve those commitments so that you're very present to them every single day, the visas for visualization and visualization is where for me, it's about creating a peak. Peak emotional state youths through seeing yourself executing your highest priorities in that peak state, you kind of a role playing rehearsing if you will what it would feel like to follow to live the perfect day, if you will to execute all of your priorities, all your commitments and do so with a smile with confidence, right with you know in that peak state. The exercise and it's just putting even if it's five minutes in the morning, just getting your body getting blood and oxygen flow into your brain. So you think clear you feel better. You have more energy the RS for reading, right anything that you need to improve any area of your life and the final ss for scribes, which is a fancy word for writing or journaling. Right. So those are the six practices that make up. Up The miracle morning and you can do most people do in one hour on, you can totally customizable can thirty minute version lockwood with thirty minutes. You can reorganize how you do them. But here's the point with gap focus. The idea that we have. This creates this negative emotional state where it hurts our confidence. It hurts our self esteem because we're focusing on the gap between where we are and where we can be. Are there a few things that you feel like people either. Don't know or misunderstand about what you teach yeah I think that one is the idea that the miracle morning is about waking up earlier now granted a you may need to wake up earlier depending on if you wake up now at the last minute. Most people wake up because they have to write. They literally go breath. What's the last minute that I can wake up and not like lose my job. Have my children taken away from me. Get divorced right. I call it your mediocre morning where you're like. It's last moment I wake up up and not have my life fall apart now. If you're waking up in that way then yeah you need to back up the alarm thirty minutes but a lago wake up and they just the first half hour of the day rather their day is spent just checking facebook and scrolling their phone check an email so it's really not about waking up earlier as much as it's about waking up better batter it's waking up and dedicating the first part of your day to elevating your own consciousness putting yourself in that peak physical mental emotional and spiritual state so you can become a better version of who you are when you went to bed the night before the first thing is that it's not about you know being being digging up super early getting a little earlier and the benefits though are so profound that trust me. It's it's worth going to bed thirty minutes earlier. if that's what it takes right thirty minutes less than net flicks at night to have a radical shift in your life life is is very worth it in the other thing that I would share his that personal development is is not enough that that is actually my new book that just came out the miracle equation that kind of why I wrote it. Is that I've been in the past. I've been guilty of being what I would call a personal development junkie. I think a lot of US US fall into this trap. Where once we learn personal about meant we start reading books in listening to podcasts learning all these new ideas. We get excited and we're like wow I'm. I'm like A and we start. Almost our ego can get fed like wow I I know more than other people. Other people aren't recall my friends and family aren't reading these books and listening to these learning stuff and they need to like. I'm I'm smarter than they are right. So that's one thing is ego can get become a part of it and I was younger that was I was for sure part of my journey on but just a big part of it is we actually trick our our brain our subconscious into thinking that learning and growing in and of itself is enough to improve our lives and while it improves our lives at a certain level like you know if you learn new ways of looking at life like the things we talked like a five minute role for example right. That's like an internal thing that you learn and if you implement it you start to see that wow I can. I can be free from my emotional pain like I don't need to feel. I don't dwell on things infiltrating. Just let them go. After five minutes that does change your life but for the most part we you have to actually change our behaviour to change our life and and what the problem is when you think that just learning is enough to change your life. You know learn reading books on finances. It doesn't increase your income. Reading books on finances doesn't increase your savings right reading books on finance or on on being healthier doesn't make you healthier right you actually have to change your behavior and so while the miracle morning is arguably one of the most effective practices says for personal development. You have to compliment it. You have to follow it up with a process for goal achievement and that's the miracle equation is it's okay. You're learning the morning. You're doing your miracle morning. You're growing your evolving. You're elevating your own consciousness. You're becoming a better version of yourself great but you you can do that and still stay in your comfy. Come the comfy confines of Your Comfort Zone like stay in your house and keep going to work and not doing anything differently. You've gotTa have okay. I need a process. I need a method for getting out of my comfort zone and actually getting clear on defining clarifying planning manning my biggest goals and dreams and creating a process that will make my success in achieving those goals and dreams inevitable and that is that so that's to me the biggest mistake will make thinking the personal development is enough. It's only half the equation so to speak and I wrote the miracle equation is that is the okay now. Here's the process for goal achievement that you you that will support your practice that you have for personal but elements. You can actually take these this growth. You're experiencing and turn it into a tangible upgraded in reality that you can that creates measurable results in Your Life Such a good point secondly is there a booker a number of books that have drastically changed your life and if so what they are in the book that changed my life probably more than anything is called conversations with God and it is I i. I always the word God is also like miracle to loaded word in some people are religious and some people are spiritual and some people are atheist and so you know you you get lot different reactions on I read that book when I was twenty years old and by the way to be very transparent you know I grew up Catholic. I then started studying a lot of the world's religions and just I'm. I'm happy to help people where I kinda my stance on on this to me I seek truth and wisdom in all religion in all spiritual practices even atheism like I mean I try to look at all of it and not think that there is one right way and that everybody else is wrong that my way is the right way. I try to go hate everyone has there's you know. I'm looking for truth always to me like I said I I I I lean toward. I know nothing or very very little compared to what I what I can learn so much. Learn grow on a conversation with God it's. It's definitely definitely not a religious book I would say it's spiritual for sure but I'll be I read it when I was twenty and you know in the author. Neil Donald Walsh just conversations with God book for which it's like technically. He's written doesn't over dozen books. I'm actually reading book for Right now. Which is probably why that book is on my mind. You know the whole series on yeah yeah. That's that's a book that really opened. My eyes might encourage you to you know to read it with an open mind. An inconsiderate in the book for me was very very very impactful in just how I live my life and how I view my life and my purpose in life in my place in this world and how it can make the the biggest most positive impact and so so good as actually on my kindle right now and I'm about to start reading and I'll make sure it's linked. Oh that's awesome. That's a great book one book for the first one. Oh cool cocoa google yeah excited any parting advice or takeaways you. WanNa make sure we leave with the audience today yeah the one that I you know for me. This has become a major affirmation Russian which I won't go into won't go down that rabbit hole but I define affirmations as you'll see in the book very differently than most people do. They're not really using affirmations to program your mind mind and your behaviors for success on and the the the way that might most important affirmations and this is the parting wisdom sistema leave you with is that you know as human beings. I think that we all we have trouble creating space in terms of time between where we are are and where we want to be we look at where other people are and we compare ourselves or we look at where we think we should be your could be in and we were. We were in this place of often scarcity versity man. Why am I not there right now. I want to be there now. In its brain doesn't is number patient where it goes okay. There's GONNA be Let me take it might take me five years to get there right like I needed to find this journey in and be at peace with where I am and an and do something every day to move in closer. We look at where we want to be and go. I'm not their way out there. Why is it taking so long. Why am I not you know and and we have these feelings of scarcity inadequacy and so here's the lesson and I think that you know we probably took me hindsight to learn this and I share this us. Oh 'cause I tell people. Don't wait for hindsight. Don't don't don't suffer for years the way that most people do to get to this place and and here's the lesson is that when we finally get to the place in our lives when when you finally place in your life or your business.

He has dedicated his own life to showing others how to overcome their challenges so that they can fulfil their unlimited potential this. This is a super fund episode. It has really practical tangible things that you can implement in your own morning and I hope that you will enjoy it. As much as I enjoyed recording it. howl welcome to the podcast? Thanks for being here. It is a pleasure really. Thank you so much for having me well. I'm so excited to chat with you because I am a huge believer in the power power of a story and I know from a little bit of research about you and from reading your books that you have actually quite an amazing story that has multiple chapters so to start are with those people who are not familiar with you. Can you just give us an overview of who you are and your story and how you got to this place that you are now yeah. I'll do the high level because I'm I'm. I'm a keynote speaker and very long winded and if I if I start to get into the story which we can dive into each one but I you know all of a sudden all all all realize I haven't even taken a breath Aetna Mike twelve minutes into my story but so high level when I was I grew up very average or mediocre. If you will meaning I I I was a C. student. I wasn't an athlete. I wasn't it wasn't popular. I didn't you know didn't really have other than all the gifts that breach born with unique gifts. I didn't really wasn't born with any really amazing standup talents balance on and and then when I was fifteen I fell into a job. Dj Edit Dj digits cool dances and weddings and anniversaries and then I got hired as radio station and are not became my dream was to be a radio DJ and then fast forward it nineteen a buddy of mine almost tricked me into going to work with him and he was in sales else and he sold cut co cutlery and I had no interest in being in sales I was. I was at another radio station at that point. After college and I met the manager Jesse Bovine and ended up Jesse really sold me on the idea that you know having setting my own schedule and having no ceiling on my income and it was kind of an all the experience I could gain. I decided to give it a shot and I started selling cutlery and in my first ten days I broke the all time company record which meant I had sold more kitchen knives in the first in days of anyone that had worked before me in fifty years and that was kind of a crazy thing for me because I went from being this average kid to like WHOA I. I didn't know I had this in me. You know and I think that all of us we have so much more within us so much more potential than we have yet to tap into a year and a half later. I was giving a speech at a cut. Co Conference points and driving home after the speech in a brand new Ford Mustang about me. I knew car I was hit head on by a drunk driver eighty miles an hour and my car spun off of the drunk driver and the worst was actually yet to come you think what what's worse than a head on with a drunk driver at eighty miles an hour but the car behind me. I spun in front of them and they crashed into my driver's side door at seventy miles an hour and crushed my car door into the left side of my body and instantly I broke eleven bones and I broke my femur and half. I broke my pelvis. In three places. I fractured broke. My arm. Mike humorous buying my bicep half shattered. My elbow broke all the bones around around my I mean Izhak. It was shattered severed my ear and began losing a lot of blood and that night I bled to death. I was dead for six minutes on the side of the freeway anyway after they pulled me out of the car the car was kind of keeping me alive and I I bled to death. I was clinically dead for six minutes rushed to the hospital in a coma for six six days. I flatlined twice more in the coma and when I came out of the coma was told by doctors that I would never walk again and permanent brain damage and at any the age that's tough to take but at twenty at a lot of goals that are involved you know walking again and the use of my brain and I decided that I would not accept the doctor's diagnosis as the ultimate fate that that I I was going to believe I could walk again and have faith that I could walk again until I was proven otherwise and I had accepted that I would and I go well. Maybe I'll never walk again. If I never walked again I told my dad I'll be the happiest person that you've ever seen in a wheelchair because I will not let a wheelchaired chaired define my quality of life. I will not let it define my emotional wellbeing and the power of the mind body connection three weeks after the crash two weeks after him out of the coma. The doctors came in with routine x rays and they said we don't know how to explain this. How your body is healing so quickly that were acting let you take your first first step today on therapy and even me being faithful and hopeful and optimistic. I was thinking maybe I could walk in like a year not in three weeks or two weeks except woke up and I took my first step in the rest is kind of history as they say and then all kinds of wrap up the big picture story with just two other other pieces in two thousand seven the US economy crashed that was kind of what I would call my second rock bottom the car accident being my first during my second rock bottom when the economy crashed kinda crashed with it. I was an entrepreneur and my business failed. couldn't pay the mortgage. I lost my house. I physically started declining in terms of I my body fat. Percentage tripled in about six months. I wasn't exercising. I was depressed. I was scared I didn't know how to turn it around and I created this morning ritual. This was like my desperate attempt to turn things around. It created the morning ritual. I wanted to create the ultimate morning ritual. The idea was that I was studying the world's most successful people just googling and looking for what are they what are their rituals and routines. I need to Sir changing things in my life. I want my life to change and a kept coming. Russ morning rituals that I'm like. Nah Not a morning person what else do and long story short there long story longer anger. I got I decided to create. I'm going to create notches morning ritual. I'm GONNA create the ultimate morning ritual like the best personal development practices in the history of humanity and I'm going to combine all of with them and the next morning I woke up over the course of an hour. I meditated for ten minutes ten minutes of affirmations ten minutes of visualization. A ten minutes of exercise is ten minutes of reading and ten minutes of journaling and that morning I went from being depressed and scared to going wow I feel inspired tired. I feel motivated. I feel energized still optimistic. If I start every day like this it's only a matter of time but I thought it'd probably be again like six months to a year of this slow congratula compound effect but within two months of doing this morning ritual didn't have a name it would just personal development in the morning that I did at five. AM and within two months I more than doubled my income I went from the worship of my life physically to deciding to train for a fifty two mile ultra marathon never run before and and I completed lead the marathon you know six months later and I went to my wife and I said Sweetie I would. I go we we just officially have surpassed the the highest two months ago. We were in debt and couldn't pay the bills. We just surpassed the highest monthly income we've ever had which at that time was twelve thousand dollars a month and I said it feels. It's like a frigging miracle that this little morning. Ritual is like how it's changing my life and she goes. It's your miracle morning and I could yeah miracle morning and you know it wasn't a book editor. wrote it down and now the miracle morning is a book and it sold one point seven million copies. It's translated in thirty seven languages practice everyday by mill over a million million people and then the last part of the story is a two years ago. I woke up unable to like couldn't control breathing and turned out I took eleven days of me having my lungs sixteen pounds of fluid drained from my lungs every day and a half I'd go to the ER and have a giant needle stuck in my back actively ribcage and it took them about a two weeks to figure out what was wrong but I was diagnosed the very rare aggressive form of cancer acute lymphoblastic leukemia and I was given a thirty percent chance of surviving. I you know I have to two small kids. They were seven. My daughter is seven at the time. My son was four and you know for any anyone but especially apparent you know the idea of leaving your family without the father was terrifying and I made the same decision that I made when I was told I would never walk again and I thought I will maintain unwavering faith that I will beat this cancer and live a long healthy life with my children until proven otherwise and I'm very grateful to say that after the most difficult year of my life where I was in the Er fighting for my life many times and almost dead and lost twenty five percent of my body weight at six feet. Taller was one hundred and twenty seven pounds but I'm about a year of being cancer free and in remission and now on a mission to elevate the consciousness of humanity maybe one person at a time and that that brings us to today that's incredible and I'm so curious because I feel like when presented with a really tough scenario in life hyphen. You've definitely had a couple of those people can go a couple of different ways and I often super people fall into that like why me mentality and I'm curious. Why do you think it it is that you didn't ask why me or take those answers that you were given from the doctors at face value. What do you think in you made you able to resist that then to choose an alternate path and I think I know pretty pretty close to exactly. Why and I and I can't take all the credit for it. It was really a mentor of mine when I was in when I was in my cut CO training on date too. I think my manager and Mentor Jesse top US what he called. The five minute rule and he said look sales is a microcosm Mike Rowe Qasem for life when you go out there. You're going to have goals and you're going to have dream you know Bishen. You'RE GONNA be working towards things and you're going to run into obstacles and challenges and adversity versity you're going to be working towards a goal and beyond track and then you're GonNa have your biggest order for the week. They're going to call and cancel and he said this is just it's just reality. There are a lot of things that happened that are out of your control and you can only control the things that you can control and he said so. The five minute rule is that whenever something happens that is unpleasant center painful or scarier difficult he he taught us to literally set our time run our phone for five minutes and five minutes to complain cry Vent Punch. Wall like whatever you know just like fill the pain feel the emotion and he said when the timer goes off you take a deep breath and you say three powerful words can't change it it and you remind yourself that I can't go back in time and change it so there's no value in in in continuing to feel upset about it. The only intelligent agent choice that I have really to make is to accept it fully and be at peace with it and then be proactive to move toward where I wanna go in my life or in my work get on the phone. Make more calls whatever it is in that in that setting and so I had when I first learned the end by the way this is one of those important lessons. I teach now even when I speak I mean it's so it's crazy to think twenty twenty years later. I'm teaching this to thousands and thousands of people in in live audiences and online but it's still this five minute role where when I first learned that like most people are like you know I thought can I get a five day Roy. It'd be pissed off for like five days like five minutes is not enough and sure enough the first few times. I did this little five minute rights at the time earn timer go off go. I'm so excited to chat with you because I am a huge believer in the power power of a story and I know from a little bit of research about you and from reading your books that you have actually quite an amazing story that has multiple chapters so to start are with those people who are not familiar with you. Can you just give us an overview of who you are and your story and how you got to this place that you are now yeah. I'll do the high level because I'm I'm. I'm a keynote speaker and very long winded and if I if I start to get into the story which we can dive into each one but I you know all of a sudden all all all realize I haven't even taken a breath Aetna Mike Twelve minutes into my story but so high level when I was I grew up very average or mediocre. If you will meaning I I I was a C. student. I wasn't an athlete. I wasn't it wasn't popular. I didn't you know didn't really have other than all the gifts that breach born with unique gifts. I didn't really wasn't born with any really amazing standup talents balance on end and then when I was fifteen I fell into a job. Dj Edit Dj digits cool dances and weddings and anniversaries and then I got hired as radio station and are not became my dream was to be a radio DJ and then fast forward it nineteen a buddy of mine almost tricked me into going to work with him and he was in sales else and he sold cut co cutlery and I had no interest in being in sales I was. I was at another radio station at that point. After college and I met the manager Jesse Bovine and ended up Jesse really sold me on the idea that you know having setting my own schedule and having no ceiling on my income and it was kind of all the experience I could gain. I decided to give it a shot and I started selling cutlery and in my first ten days I broke the all time company record which meant I had sold more kitchen knives in the first in days of anyone that had worked before me in fifty years and that was kind of a crazy thing for me because I went from being this average kid to like WHOA I. I didn't know I had this in me. You know and I think that all of us we have so much more within much more potential than we have yet to tap into a year and a half later. I was giving a speech at a cut. Co Conference points and driving home after the speech in a brand new Ford Mustang at his first new car I was hit head on by a drunk driver eighty miles an hour and my car spun off of the drunk driver and the worst was actually yet to come you think what what's worse than a head on with a drunk driver at eighty miles an hour but the car behind me I spun in front of them and they crashed into my driver's side door at seventy miles an hour and crushed my car door into the left side of my body and instantly I broke eleven bones and I broke my femur and half. I broke my pelvis. In three places. I fractured broke. My arm. Mike humorous buying my bicep half shattered. My elbow broke all the bones around around my I mean Izhak. It was shattered severed my ear and began losing a lot of blood and that night I bled to death. I was dead for six minutes on the side of the freeway anyway after they pulled me out of the car the car was kind of keeping me alive and I I bled to death. I was clinically dead for six minutes rushed to the hospital in a coma for six six days. I flatlined twice more in the coma and when I came out of the coma was told by doctors that I would never walk again and permanent brain damage and you know at any the age that's tough to take but at twenty at a lot of goals that involved walking again and the use of my brain and I decided that I would not accept the doctor's diagnosis as the ultimate fate that that I I was going to believe I could walk again and have faith that I could walk again until I was proven otherwise and I had accepted that I would and I go well. Maybe I'll never walk again. If I never walked again I told my dad I'll be the happiest person that you've ever seen in a wheelchair because I will not let a wheelchaired chaired define my quality of life. I will not let it define my emotional wellbeing and the power of the mind body connection three weeks after the crash two weeks after I came out of the coma. The doctors came in with routine x rays and they said we don't know how to explain this. How your body is healing so quickly that rushing let you take your first first step today on therapy and even me being faithful and hopeful and optimistic. I was thinking maybe I could walk in like a year not in three weeks or two weeks except woke up and I took my first step in the rest is kind of history as they say and then all kinds of wrap up the big picture story with just two other other pieces in two thousand seven the US economy crashed that was what I would call my second rock bottom the car accident being my first during my second rock bottom when the economy crashed kinda crashed with it. I was an entrepreneur and my business failed. couldn't pay the mortgage. I lost my house. I physically started declining in terms of I my body fat. Percentage tripled in about six months. I wasn't exercising. I was depressed. I was scared I didn't know how to turn it around and I created this morning ritual. This was like my desperate attempt to turn things around. It created the morning ritual. I wanted to create the ultimate morning ritual. The idea was that I was studying the world's most successful people just googling and looking for what are they what are their rituals and routines. I need to Sir changing things in my life. I want my life to change and a kept coming. Russ morning rituals that I'm like. Nah Not a morning person what else do and long story short there long story longer anger. I got I decided to create. I'm going to create notches morning ritual. I'm GONNA create the ultimate morning ritual like the best personal development practices in the history of humanity and I'm gonNA combine all of with them and the next morning. I woke up over the course of an hour. I meditated for ten minutes ten minutes of affirmations ten minutes evangelization. A ten minutes of exercise is ten minutes of reading and ten minutes of journaling and that morning I went from being depressed and scared to going wow I feel inspired tired. I feel motivated. I feel energized still optimistic. If I start every day like this. It's only a matter of time but I thought it'd probably be again like six months to a year of this slow sure gradual compound effect but within two months of doing this morning ritual didn't have a name it would just personal development in the morning that I did at five. AM and within two months I more than doubled my income I went from the worship of my life physically to deciding to train for a fifty two mile ultra marathon never run before and and I completed lead the marathon you know six months later and I went to my wife and I said Sweetie I would. I go we we just officially have surpassed the the highest two months ago. We were in debt and couldn't pay the bills. We just surpassed the highest monthly income we've ever had which at that time was twelve thousand dollars a month and I said it feels. It's like a frigging miracle that this little morning. Ritual is like how it's changing my life and she goes. It's your miracle morning and I could yeah miracle morning and you know it wasn't a book book editor wrote it down and now the miracle morning is a book and it sold one point seven million copies. It's translated in thirty seven languages practice every day by mill over a million million people and then the last part of the story is a two years ago. He's also the executive producer of the documentary the miracle morning movie how has an incredible story he died at age twenty after his heart stopped beating for six minutes after being hit by a drunk driver and nearly died again in november two thousand sixteen when he was diagnosed with a rare in very aggressive form of cancer he was only given a thirty percent chance of living at that point after enduring the most difficult year of his life he is now cancer free how grateful to be alive and living his mission alongside his wife wife and their two young children in austin texas say you're going to notice that i'm not part of today's interview. This is the first of many episodes and i'm going to be sitting out on a take talk to rest and focus on my pregnancy but don't worry i'm still going to be part of many upcoming interviews and we are just so lucky that we have the flexibility you to do this and jesse's able to pick up the slack and show up for these interviews and do such an awesome job on his own. We go with hal elrod. Hello hal. It's great to have you back on the show. How are you doing and it's great to be back. I <hes> barney's not here but i am grateful to be here with you today. Just link you. We're gonna have a lot of fun. It's been a long time since we chatted in a lot. A lot is happening in your life. You have a new book out and in this book you talk about how as a kid you're a bit of a troublemaker and you thought to yourself as being very average as a kid through college college and highschool. You had a record for the most hours of detention in a single school year so take us back to be a kid and this troublemaker character you were yeah. I was always always a nice kid. I was good spirited. You know never like the troublemaking was never violent or deceitful or anything like that. It was religious a class clown. I'm kind of thing you know. I think that what's valuable for me to share is israeli that i think like most of us as kids trying to figure out who we are and find our way and accepted. I'd buy those around us and just general. Everybody has different childhoods. Obviously some are more difficult than others mind was kind of average you know if you will but for me growing up i i got picked on and bullied like a lot of a student but for me. I didn't have a lot of confidence. I was not an achiever and i have friends. I think we all know people that they were star. Athletes in high school or you know got great grades. They were popular. They were confident and that wasn't me. I was a c. student. I was not super popular. I never played a single high school sport or organized sports and really just for me didn't have any evidence in my life that i could achieve the things i wanted to achieve in my future. You know i didn't grow up with any goals or dreams of what i wanted to be. When i grow up. Actually i take that back. That's not totally true. When i was fifteen years old a buddy of mine. His brother got sick and his brother was was to d._j. Or junior high school dance i was a software high school and the junior high that i had went to my best friend's older brother was supposed to do the dance in my friend. Jake called me said hey calling his sick but we've got all his equipment and he asked if i would do the dance to d._j. The dance dance with me <unk> heck yeah. That'd be a blast. How fun go back and you know d._d._r. Or the other kids which i obviously knew most of the kids that were still there just a couple years removed and we did the dance and afterwards we got excited without. Let's start a business but it's like sir doing d._j. Work so this was the one thing i did growing up that was kind of out of the ordinary but it was really really my friend who is leading the way he kind of. Okay sure whatever you wanna. Do you know we broke up as d._j. Partners my dad helped me finance all of this equipment a fifteen hundred dollars the d._j. Equipment and then. I got a job at a grocery store. She owned the grocery store. My parents did i grew up living in the back of a grocery store is one of those built in nineteen forty five where the house and the store itself was all one building and you literally like you were in check stand one and took six paces out of the checks ten and it was the door. Aura living room says very unconventional way to grow up but i decided i wanted to pursue the d._j. Thing that jake and i had started and we we actually broke up friendship over a girl kind of silly and i saw a few years ago where we're good now. One of our customers came in and my dad's sold me said hey did. My son is a d._j. Now and yet and she paid me one hundred dollars to do four hours hours of d._j. Work and you know you're fifteen years old making one hundred bucks for any age. Twenty five bucks an hours good money and so i did that and i i was hooked. I thought wow here's the lesson for people. I learned at a very young age that you could do work. That didn't feel like work and everything. I do to this day fits. It's that bill the work that i do. I'm keynote speaker. I love speaking in sharing my message. I do these interviews right. I love being able to impact people to positive way. I'm i'm an author. I don't love writing but i love the rest of the process of you know sharing. My book with people and impacting people's lives so the i learned. Is that a you can do work that that you love. That actually doesn't feel like work and at the i think that plan about c._d. Young age that i'm gonna i'm gonna. I'm never going to do work that. I don't actually love doing at such a valuable lesson for people i think because most people don't love their job. I think you don't love your job. Go find the life is too short to spend eight hours a day five days a week doing work. That doesn't fulfil. You doesn't bring you joy in your life. In the second lesson that i learned is you can make significantly more money than is considered normal or average for doing that that worked that you love earning twenty five dollars an hour and eventually within a few i think less than a year i was up to seventy five dollars an hour as a fifteen year old and then sixteen year old high school student. I was earning more money in a night. Then my friends were earning in a month and they were doing work that they hated and so that really did give birth earth to the entrepreneurial spirit first of all but then really those two lessons that i think that no matter what age you are age of us our life is too short not do work that you love and really through entrepreneurial kind of creativity you can earn an income that is beyond what is considered normal and early that we might get into this. We might not but that lead into my first first major job at nineteen. I started a career in sales and that is what appealed to me was not only was the work kind of fun. I could set my own schedule but the big thing was. There's no ceiling on my income. There is no salary. I'm paid on commission so i could earn as much or as little but as much as i was willing to work for that that was when i was nineteen i'm forty eight hundred forty into the last twenty years of my life have been really in alignment with doing work that i love and finding a way to earn a significant income for were dot works i could provide financial freedom and security for my family and for me originally and now now for my wife and my kids and how he talked about getting into sales and i thing judging by reading your story. We're confidence kicked in where you went from feeling like an average type person to gaining. Some confidence came when you started to really rack up though sales yeah. I borrowed it from a mentor. I think that's a great lesson. I i didn't come up with the lesson that all share right now this is. I don't know i read this somewhere. I've heard this somewhere somewhere. Maybe my mentor taught me this. I don't even know but it's that sometimes you have to believe in the belief that someone else has in you until your belief catches up and when i started i got hired to sell cutlery at age nineteen by the way i i didn't dream of being a salesperson like i did it to get my friend teddy off my back. I guess you wouldn't shut about how old you all you be so good at this so it's great it's he would always just toward and stop talking about me taking giving it a shot selling cutlery lary kitchen knives and i. I just kept teddy on d._j. And at that time i was on a radio station you know after my first year college and i teddy i i don't. I'm not a salesperson. I have no i've never sold in have no interest in salesperson and one day he kinda kinda tricked me into going to the office with him and i i met his manager. Who became my manager. My my mentor you hired me that day. He explained the opportunity of earning commission and setting my own schedule and things he really position where i thought well. That's really appealing. You know your your he did a better job. Then teddy is at selling me on the job so i decided to give it a try and within two weeks i quit my d._j. Job which was crazy. That was my dream job but i had earned in my first ten days selling cut co ironed over three thousand thirty seven hundred dollars and you know at nineteen years old at any age it's good money but at nineteen years older and thirty seven hundred dollars in my first ten days and by the way that was starting up but my commission level was very low when you start in it went up as you sold more so the next ten days that same amount of sales would have earned me seventy five hundred dollars right in ten days so like i guess you could say i had dollar signs in my eyes but it was really just like the potential. Wow why i'm <music>. I'm earning ten bucks an hour at the radio and i'm earning like three hundred dollars an.

"Calm that i'm relaxed that i'm learning and growing and i'll tell you i have a self imposed rule that i'm not allowed to read a business book until i read a parenting hunting or marriage book i at least five to ten pages while and that ensures that my family who we all claim as our number one priority but does your schedule reflect that and mine before i had cancer did not and i thought to reinforce that they're my number one priority the first thing i'm gonna do every morning miracle morning is i'm going to learn how to be better and so for me. Constantly sharpening my mind if you will through meditation and all of those practices is what keeps me sharp and i do it every day six six days a week on average brilliant brilliant. The biggest thing has been creating passive and and recurring income and i think that that those words are charged a word. I think some people associated with get rich quick like oh yeah get rich quick and create passive acid income and on and on no <unk> when i had cancer i really understood the value of this so i have passive income through having unpublished written thirteen books and then thirty seven translation so i fifty sources of income just from my books and when when i had cancer i really couldn't work for a year and that was our highest income year we've ever had seven figure income year and it was from the passive recurring income sources. Whether it's writing books or it's investing in real estate or i have friends and invest in all sorts of weird one by debt. Let's have one that buys internet company. I mean all sorts of random stuff right on but the bottom line is any real estate is probably the easiest lowest hanging through where you you know go vic- robert kiyosaki books right. You can learn how to invest in real estate with no money down. It's a real thing but the idea. I have one friend that his goal was to buy ten ten. How chen rental houses over the next ten years have them paid off over the next thirty years and then he'll give retirement of twenty thousand dollars a month minimum. <hes> you know it right. That's including inflation of rental price. That's that's in today's dollars which the it'll probably forty thousand a month but there you go. That's something that literally almost anyone can do. You know maybe not at that pace. Maybe it takes longer but that's the biggest habit is. I created passive recurring income and yeah i've been working on that by the way for the last fifteen years so it took me a long time to get there but you know they say on the day of victory no fatigue spell right and like once you start seeing incoming while you're sleeping. You're like whoa. This is cool. You are listening to the ziglar. "I've already accepted all of them before they happen. That's why when i was diagnosed with cancer like i don't expect you to hear this and go oh well. I got cancer tomorrow. I can do the same. No you had a practice tracks five minute rule for thirty days and and then realize oh i have the power to completely accept everything that is out of my control and therefore give myself the gift if the peace with it and move forward and that really is the lesson well. I don't know how to say this with enough gravity. This is not on a good message so ziglar listeners. I haven't brought you another good message. This is a paradigm shift to instigate massive life off change. I'm going to go back just real quick to where you talked about our innate our ancestry our heritage of survival and arrest that is normal. We have to be we want to be if we want more. We have to be abnormal. We have to be weird. Call it. Whatever you want to so for what you're talking about right there for something bad to happen for something tragic to happen for some folks who were products of tragedy that happened forty years ago to hear what you're talking about into not have long-term anger to not have bitterness than not have sorrow to not have criticism to not have that is is abnormal that is weird. What you said over and over is that that did not just come to you in a little didn't come to you in the fortune fortune cookie message and change your life that you had been training in that ability for days and weeks and months and years and folks that's. I'm going to go back to the books because we have so. I say this a lot. You know there's always more we could talk on. There's multiple shows here in an immense way. You get into these books. Get into this message and study this because i don't know exactly how how that you've brought it in such tangible way way in with such clarity but what you're talking about is massive but i love you also cash it in this takes training. This is every day and back to your miracle morning. This comes in those little deposits every single day. We're just about to wrap this up and then we're going to record the habit show that when people are here in this it'll be the let's see two shows from then and you can hear about more of his habits but that is what he's going back to and like you said with the analogy early on none of it specifically hard. It's not rocket science. It's not dramatically challenging. It's just doing it day in and day out but from that what you've talked about there probably one of the most radical life life changes. I think anybody any of us could experience is to be able to take something deal with it. Move on and like you said i how is that negative feeling going going to help. It's going to do nothing but hurt us and we can let it go. We have that ability but we're going to have to grow it. We're going to have to grow it to earn. I guess that's it. I mean when the car accident happened. I had been practising five minute rule almost every single day for your half when the cancer happened ivan practically ask five minute rule every day for eighteen years. Wow you know so that for me. It wasn't like i learned it and then i applied to to cancer or a learning i applied as beholden to walking and it was a year and a half of practicing it where my my default mindset was like well. "Everything you have and you fall short of the goal okay who who you become in that process the qualities characteristics the habits the mindset the skill sets those don't leave you and now you are a better version of who you were when you set out to achieve that goal and all you do is either keep pursuing that goal and no it's going to take longer or you apply that new better improve version of yourself to your next school and maybe you hit that goal but guess what maybe you don't but if you approach it with you know what i call the miracle equation unwavering faith and extraordinary effort and you give it everything when you have until the last moment to achieve the goal you might hit that goal or you might miss it but the point is you're going to get better and better and more capable more and more deserving of achieving monumental meaningful boys not by achieving the goals along the way but by who oh you become in the process and like you said zigzag beautiful famous flossy which by the way is the crux of my next book. I'm working on right. I you have to become the first i need be then do the things you need to do to have like you want but most people get this backwards they think once i have more time once. I have more money than i can do. The things like exercise and give to charity so i can have a life of health and of meaning no no no no no. I you got to be the person then do the things then then. You'll have the life not the other way around. I love that that's been one as a as long as i've been in the health and wellness arena. I've realized that the people look at folks who've achieve something look at hal elrod goal of course he exercises and maybe has a personal trainer goes to the gym four to now and what i found out just like you have in my research was no they. You did those things so that they could become who they were. I wanna come to a point that you make that. I appreciate so much maybe <hes> maybe again and achilles heel and personal development when you speak to the need this came right out of the miracle question the need for us to be happy and grateful for who we are and where we are right now to have some contentment with ourselves and not have negative feelings negative self image where we are so be okay with us now but and this is right this is your your writing and also following the innate human desire to grow and improve and you said i see a lot of folks on one side of the other never content content with themselves. They're striving striving and those who have given up and just want to be okay with where they are and i hear that so often can just be all this striving and personal developed. We seem to be okay. Okay with who we are and i love you. Put that we all have this innate desire to be better at. It's almost boring. If what what else is there to do just to stay in the status this quote and go gosh. I've i've actually arrived. No we all want to so looking at that. I think i want you to speak to that a little bit striking that balance because i do see polarization attention on those two issues and you see people just driving themselves and they're never at peace okay. That's not good. That's not what we're talking about personal development but then the others over here who've gotten so frustrated with that with their never okay they're never enough and so you speak to that balance you speak to those issues. I want you to speak to the balance there. Yeah i think it's one of the most important paradigm in life to hold and forgot who said that but there's someone that said like that's a sign line of genius or something when you can hold two opposing simultaneously right whereas most people go no no this is the way that it is and if you don't believe <hes> you're wrong in politics all the time right. No no no. This is the way it's like. What if it's a little bit of both what if there's wisdom from both of your perspectives and somewhere in the middle is the truth or the best way to do it so here's the point and the first quote i'm big on reading quotes..

I believe and actually have page sixty nine written in my notes and you talk about vision and i'm gonna read right out of again. You said the more vivid you make your vision also also speak to us folks through the were vivid. You guys make your vision. We all make our visions. The more compelled will be to take the necessary actions to to make it a reality that was again kind of one of those beacons that stuck out to me in leading up in research in you and your message and leading up to this because because i have realized that you talked about goals that so often i see that when folks are not ultimately going after something they know they want more but they're not going after. They really haven't gotten clear on what it is. They want and i have done that. How actually i'll say there are still areas in my life where i'll realize why. Why have i not progressed arrest there. I'll come back. I have not clarified my goal. I always driven. I always wake up in the morning driven but without being clear i can't make those definitive steps and sometimes times. I don't even know that i've progressed or regressed. I should say without those and so. I really appreciate your talking in there about that vision in i. I assume that you see that as well a lot of people that yeah they want more. They want more but when you ask them. They don't have a specific on that what they want on those what they want a ah do you find yourself and i know you speak so much doing the podcast where does vision rank. I mean again we talk about. What's the holy grail. You know what's sequentially visits got to be. Ah i think right at the top. It is actually my so my co author here..

"You don't have to take your wife or your husband date nights survive. Those are all to thrive ride but i don't think any as you said listening to your podcast mastermind that whether it's societal conditioning or just the or have we've evolved off to want to thrive. I don't i don't exactly know maybe it's a little bit of oh. It's definitely both but we're not. We don't want to survive in rest anymore. We actually actually want to thrive. We're measuring success on a scale of one to ten. I said this is the miracle morning on a scale of one to ten in every area. We want level ten success. We want level ten health level ten happiness level ten relationships. We want level tin financial freedom right nobody wants. Nobody wants to settle like. I don't wanna be happier to healthy or to wealthy now. We want level ten so we now want to thrive and in order to do that. You have to overcome your innate. Inborn programmed human nature sure to simply survive and rest if we can go into the miracle equation. Is that piece because you read it. You read that passage what i realized prices with the miracle morning. Do i believe that personal development is the foundation of success absolutely and it may it's based on a gym quote. Your level of success will sell them senior level of personal development because success is something you attract by the person you become in other words. You want to achieve success. You have to develop the qualities. The characteristics driss ticks the mindset the knowledge skills the habits you do that during your miracle morning like you read from the book. You can develop yourself to level tan then but still not do anything with it. In fact we often get tricked into thinking that the personal development alone is enough. We're like oh. I'm learning. I'm growing. I'm becoming better yeah you but you're not getting out of your living room. You're not doing anything outside of surviving at your job that you're in. It pays the bills the minimum minimum to get by. You're not thriving and that's where the miracle question came into play. Is that while the miracle. Morning is your daily practice for personal development. You've you've got to follow that up with a daily process for goal achievement and that's what the miracle equation. It's well and you just. I mean highly highly ziegler risk there in his famous quote of new ideas. You said that but we need new voices but i am saying you've got to be the right person. Folks who listen to this show no. I know that we can be the right person to do the right things to an essence. Have what we want be do happen. We hear tom talk about that so much today. Hey france hence. "Don't celebrate the win. You are very good at looking at all this positive things that happen and being like really thankful for it. And then thanking the people that brought that to you. And then it brings you more opportunity, and it seems like something that you've kind of system is a little bit. And in the new book, you don't think of it as luck will actually do you think of it as look I it looks like look from the outside until you really break it down. Yeah. I mean, I almost would. I it feels like look. Because I'm like man if that wouldn't happen. We were talking about this, right? The miracle morning right now is the number one bestselling book in Brazil, and it sold over five hundred thousand copies, and that's all because in Brazil or over Justin Brazil, oh sold almost two million. I think overall. Yeah. Which I didn't know I literally the foreign publishers don't report. So right. Like once a year, I find out. So if somebody asked me, how many copies, I sold them resolved. They probably fifty thousand and then I get down there last week. And my publishers like we want to present you this plaque with you sold five hundred thousand copies of the miracle morning in Brazil wh-what, thanks for the plaque. Whereas my chest. But here's the point. It is because the one of the top reality TV stars in Brazil Adriana, Santana, her friend gave her the first ever self-help book she ever read the miracle morning, and she posted it to her four million Instagram followers because it changed your life. Like what I can't predict that you can't plan that you can't write a book proposal or a business plan on that. Right. And in kind of with the new book, the miracle equation, it it goes back to the adage that there's a quote, or whatever you wanna call it the harder you work, the luckier you get right? And so I really would instead of luck. I would call it serendipity almost it's like because it's happened so consistently so many times based on when I the way I approach life with. This. And when you when you study, the world's most successful people just say study, just listen to their interviews. They all talk about how all know, they call it, look or they call it serendipity.
