"West hal greer willis reed butcher havlicek. Sam jones nate thurmond billy cunningham and so that group you can see a lot of why they they got there not just individual excellence but all of those guys except for elgin baylor had championships retired and so championships figure really a lot. In this i looked at also in the top fifty the fifty th anniversary list. Only nine guys made that who did not win rings and that was a baylor. Nate thurmond. pete. Muravich dave being george urban. Charles patrick ewing stockton malone Only one mvp only one guy who had won mvp during the first fifty years didn't make the top fifty. That was bob. Mce do so. Mvp feels like an almost automatic election. Unless you're bob mcadoo. So let's get to bob mcadoo for a second because one of the guys one of the guys on wrestling wrestling with. Yeah he got. He got snubbed. In one thousand nine hundred ninety six my good friend mark stein has never forgiven you in the rest of that voting panel for i leaving off one of his his childhood heroes. And there's a really strong case can do to make it. But that's now you're adding training mat. Mcadoo ended twenty five guys from the new era and not selling. Knock off too many guys. Did you let me just ask in general again. Without giving away your your seventy five ballot regrets misgivings looking back about who got left off for all. I know you might have voted for. Mcadoo had been outvoted in nineteen ninety-six but between mcadoo and adrian dantley dominique Those are three guys that were considered snubs back than dominique. In particular and a lot of people i think are trying to find ways now to get dominique on the seventy five team. We're the guys that you thought. That were legitimately snubbed. And when i say legitimately snubbed. I mean it's not just the usual complaint but like this was a mistake these guys should have been on yeah dominate and it's interesting what's ninety said howard because we're we all try to get rid of and i think in general one of the things that were try one of the few things we do pretty well is vote on these things. We take it very seriously every year. There's an mvp boat. Oh you're just like him because he you know. We tried to get rid of stuff and we call up other people and we try to do that correctly. Because it seems it seems important however comma as we had these little things inside of us that talked to us and they are a little as prejudices. I'm not even gonna call. That likes dislikes. And i hear bob mcadoo whispering tiny and for me dominique when i was covering bolivia i just loved the i just..

"Themselves as to exactly what he wanted to do and when he wanted to do it and i agree with you as much more relaxed if you saw him at a tennis tournament or you saw them somewhere. After he retired he was much more. Nba bowl to talk to and To sort of get a laugh from you. You're right about alex said What was there always stories that they'd come to blows. I never believe that because it don't think we'll that confrontational and it's like so. Many big guys He was looking for fight but the the that had him was coach. Coach twice once out in in san francisco and then back in philadelphia and the year that they finally broke russell. Streak and one Sixty seven. I wanna say That might have been the greatest team ever. That was an extraordinary thing. Billy cunningham. Who's a hall of famer came off the bench. That's man they voted. They voted it the team of the first fifty years. Well i'm not surprised at that. Chet walker in luke jackson was a to. I remember the to starting for which is in cunningham came in and very stella was sort of the last of the set shots right one of the guards in hal greer was just another whole family was he was the other. I mean that was finish ordinary team but then beyond bianchi was on that team he. Yeah he He didn't play very much but he was distributor contributor but that was that was will some first championship that and it took a little bit of sting at all the business of of Of how he was a loser which really dated back to when north carolina batanes in nineteen fifty seven championship and break over time. So wealth is a is a major figure in in my in in my book and and one of them. I think one of the more intriguing athletes that i met through the years. Time with frank. Four name of the book is called overtime. Life as a sportswriter. And and i mentioned before it went on joy reading the book. Great stories Similar to you're talking about wilt chamberlain you talk about Your friendship and and covering the great arthur ash and other tremendous figuring out only in sports but culturally and politically. What what he kinda went through what he stood for or can. Can you tell a story about. Arthur ash Certainly i think i was probably closer to arthur than any other athlete and and We went together to south africa when he broke the color line there..

"Espn radio the former nba veteran. Joining us on the program. Good to have you back. Thanks for joining us. Let's start at the end of that game. We had all this conversation about. Who's gonna take the last shot for the nets in a million years. If i would have said you know. Bruce brown is going to take that last shot for the nets. What would you have said no. Thanks discombobulated possession obviously a fruit imbalanced. The ball rolls all the way across. Court you know. Bruce had some time to wait for kyrie. Wait for kevin durant to give them that basketball a lot. Bruce brown play great. And this guy's a six four center a point guard. I believe in miami university of miami. And he's come out and he plays the center position. It's incredible But yeah obviously. The possession didn't go like they wanted a tough shot over the top of brook lopez. But i'm just shocked that game eighty six. Eighty three is a bad three-quarters normally for brooklyn eighty three points for the game It was a stunning that. These two offenses were that bad last night. But this is by design for milwaukee. It was a physical game tough game. Do they have to keep that score under one ten and under one hundred if they have any chance of winning this series they would like to You know but typically you're going to have to score to beat brooklyn that's the bottom line up. Even without james harden they get one twenty five in one fifteen. The first two games that was shocking. I mean what would they scored eleven points in the first quarter down. Nineteen after one. Kevin durant doesn't go eleven for twenty eight very often and that won't happen again. So i if. I'm milwaukee do i take confidence out of that that i held brooklyn eighty three and i want. I don't think so still think brooklyn has been by far the better team throughout the first three games and then you have the honest situation. He's not a good shooter. You can't put him on the line. What you were a great free throw shooter your father. One of the great free throw shooters in nba history. What is it happens at the line with some of these players. They almost look paralyzed john. do do some people not like to be the center of attention. Like i'm. i'm not saying you're scared. But you're standing there. You know whatever's in the building twenty thousand or whatever watching you i mean. I played with shah. We will shoot free throws every day. When i was with the lakers and ninety seven he would go eighteen for twenty seventeen for twenty all the time and i don't know the fatigue play into it. I'm not exactly sure but i would say this is get the routine faster. He got called for one last night. Ten second rule. He had thirteen seconds. They gave I will go quicker. Colin montgomerie a great golfer. Right great writer cupper in a he always said the longer you stand over a ball the more bad things are going to get your head so no what you have to do. He knows what he's got to get the ball. Get a routine. That's quick. shoot it. Shoot with confidence and move on. But we see this with ben simmons. I don't think ben has bad form but he doesn't bend at his knees in that there's no fluidity to it. It's these guys get there and they're like stiff and then there's no movement from the ground up he's form is not great of the elbows out a bit I'd rather have form to be quite honest watching you. And maybe some of the nets back there I didn't shoot a jump. Shot from throw line that really struggles years ago. Do you remember wilt. Chamberlain did did. He took jumpers. Well no he. He was at the top of the key. He was so bad. Hal greer played for the seventy sixers. How grier took a jump shot from the free. Throw line oca- yeah. I think my dad talked wilton trying underhand for a minute Guys rebid embarrassed about it but it. It's amazing i mean you bring up. Ben simmons guys be this great basketball and you cannot make it ten foot jump shot or you're not even willing to take it but look ben. Simmons is great escape great player. But i mean isn't like don't you start as a kid. I think he wanted to make a free throw. He could be a great player. i don't think he's a great player. Well he he can control ballgames and be the best player on the floor at times and but that's at the end of a game when i know that he is going to have to shoot a free throw and like he can't shoot a free throw or three pointer freak he can't shoot he can control a game and i wonder is a one or or is he more of a to. Who can rely on our needs to rely on one That's that's a good quite obviously in the playoffs. He hasn't proven to be a one. That's taken his team to where they need to be and look he's he's four for thirty two from the three point line now in the playoffs and last night. I'm i mean i'm not. I have no affiliation with the bucks even though i play their dreaded. Forget my time there. he he. I was like. I'm frustrated watching this like don't shoot a three. I don't care if you're honest. If you're michael jordan i'd be like don't shoot him anymore. I mean it serves no purpose for for thirty two. I mean that's just you can't do it. We're talking to john berry the former nba veteran who apparently played on just about every team in the nba. So just eight. Oh that was in that seven. Maybe seven. the worst stop was milwaukee. Well it was cold and we and we stunk. Okay all right other than that. It was the great great people. Milwaukee and break braatz. Paulie do have. How many games else got john. Barry with eight teams and thirty six starts out of eight hundred and twenty one games. Hey man try coming off the bench for some of these starters and they whine about whatever it's hard to do it's a skill he he. He was on the call last night. Game three between the nets and bucks. He's got the jazz the clippers game three. I'm trying to figure out the clippers year. john. I got to really good wing defenders. Who can't guard anybody on the wings. Help me out here. John and throw in pat beverley. He's supposed to be a superior wing defender and you had luca torture for thirty six a night in sickness. Seven game series and now donovan. Mitchell gets what eighty two points in two games and there were two winnable games. I mean the clippers given credit they come back to twenty one down in the third quarter last night and have an opportunity Coli hasn't really gone off like he did a couple times in the dallas in the dallas series Eat tight lou. Eat he switches it up on a game to game basis. Does the rondo last night. Sometimes he plays you bought sometimes. He plays small sometimes. He plays big he's searching and I'm not sure what the thing i. I feel a lot better. If i was the clippers were the box. Even though they're down to nothing they go home. Who thinks more likely to play for a championship. First devon booker don mitchell. Those two teams are both scary You know obviously. I don't think denver has an opportunity to get out with the loss of jamal..

"Was game seven of the nba championship. So i mentioned before but to ten kentucky didn't have a team exhibition game. Everybody's like who franson town. So the mayor gave russell the key to the city. Like oh we're so glad to have you ever. This is wonderful later on that day. Those guys went to get something to eat. The black players the The the restaurant now they'll start diggers get out of here. Not not having. The russell was like all right. Guess what we're gonna boycott the scam. It was brown. It was a brown groundbreaking statement at the time. When you know basically black players did the laura ingram they just show up dribbled. They were expected to look the other way as such discrimination. There was opposed to say. Well you know what. Hey we're making good money and we're playing basketball and we've got privileges that People don't have so why are we to Why are we going to upset the applecart wanting to say anything. We're just happy that the white man is allowing us to do this. So we're just gonna shut up the dribble. You know kinda like what those fucking jackasses want. Those guys lebron those guys do today. Shopping dribbled you make too much money way. Millionaires plan the child's game. What are you. what are you complaining about. What you kneeling for what you wear black lives matter for what do you care. You're rich beyond rich. Show up and play right. There's another time that russell was given the key to the city. I think this was an indiana. Those guys to do something to eat the black players again. They got turned down. They turned away. We don't serve niggers here out of here any other so later on that night in the middle of the night bill russell got up found out where the mayor of the town lift knocked on his door at around two or three in the morning he answered and said. Here's your key. If this is the way you're gonna treat us. We don't want we don't want the key to your damn city. Get out of here and as i mentioned before back then that was considered i mean you know that was considered Pretty heavy for those guys to do something like that after the nine hundred sixty three assassination of civil rights leader maker evers in jackson mississippi. Bill russell flew down to lead the city's first integrated basketball camps and it was a situation where the guy asked him is like you think it's okay. You think safe for negro kids white kids play basketball together in russell's like sure my kids play with white kids all the time nothing. Nothing happened to him yet. So doing that type of things. He was vocal in the civil rights movement. He will voice in the civil rights movement and he was the first black head coach in professional sports. In what you won two of his titles. His alleged is a tenth and eleventh title. he was the coast for three years and When to teach you to championships so bill russell has always been. I met one of his books though when you have one of his books years ago interesting guy very very interesting guy. Wendell's role the sports the podcast. The valentine's day version all the podcasts. Yours truly the wallis interesting talking about bill russell and what he meant the relationship that he had with wilt chamberlain. I mentioned before about how. Bill russell's the greatest Athletes greatest winter in sport's greatest leader in sports in a given the argument will big fucking dealing. We played the league that was eighteen. He played against you. Know slow underdeveloped six eight white guys. Who couldn't jump so big deal. He should have dominated well He was playing against wilt. Chamberlain lot if you can make the argument that that was the greatest one one rivalry in professional team sports. It wasn't ali frazier. It wasn't federal nadal. It wasn't something my dad but just in terms of team. Sports is concerned. That was the greatest rivalry in sports history from nineteen fifty nine and nineteen sixty nine. They played against each other one hundred in forty two times larry. Bird magic didn't do their jordan and lebron. No kobe in the brian no d. Wade in coby. No anna a tenure stretch. They played an average of fort teen times a year. Wilt average twenty eight points in twenty eight rebounds which was fourteen points five rebounds better than bill russell thirteen men in the postseason seven times only once nine hundred sixty six sixty seven eastern conference finals russell's first year as the coach of the celtics. A team were philadelphia. Went hopefully go sixty seven and thirteen or something like that. At the time. Set the record for most wins the season russell team to sixty or sixty two his first year as a coach but that was the year where philadelphia had hal greer and Lucas jackson and chet walker and wilt. Billy cunningham was coming off the bench for that era. I mean that teen with loaded and they beat boston in six games. Infective one game six at the convention center in philadelphia. One forty one sixteen will for the series average. A triple double. I mean a real simple double. I'm talking like twenty four points. Twenty four rebounds and twelve assists and so it was. It was one of those rivals but other than that whenever will an russell whether it be in the conference finals in the championship whether it was the ninety sixty four. Nba finals were wilt was playing for the san francisco warriors whether he came back and havilcek steals the ball game seven in the year that will score fifty and they lost game seven the boston in a close battle. I didn't one nine one. Oh seven whatever it was russell always came out on top against one of the most dominant big men in nba history will in the most dominant men to play in a sport and we'll chamberlain his best night's against The celtics in russell wilson have a career. I think it's still an nba discuss. Yes got to be an nba record. Still fifty five rebounds. One time it gets russell. The boston he didn't. He had a forty four point. Forty three rebound performance. Night against bill russell. I don't give a damn who you're playing against. I don't give a damn if. I don't give a damn if not too insensitive. I don't give a damn if lebron james in his prime came on the floor against a freshman squad in jerk water. Usa and they said you know what instead of the steno of Thirty two minutes. We're going to play sixty minutes. Lebron go for it. I don't care what the circumstances were anybody. Who has the ability to score. Forty four points in forty three rebounds a record where they had fifty five rebounds in the professional game. I don't give a damn what the circumstances are. That's fucking unbelievable. In that bill russell had to go against mvp time and time and time again as historic man. That's unbelievable ban. That's incredible bam. That's what the fuck you know. But all your jordan did more a jordan's a winner at.

"Trades when you don't get your way, But let's not act like that's a new thing. I'm gonna take you down memory Lane and how long this has really been going on. You might be surprised. By the way, the final numbers Aaron for the Super Bowl 55 as far as the Las Vegas sports books, and we'll take you behind the counter to tell you how things win for the covert Super Bowl, plus an oddball story involving a streaker bet an alleged $50,000 wager. I'll answer the question that's been asked 100 times, and that's what a regulated market like Las Vegas will accept as a bet and what they want and give you the truth behind the streaker Bet later on after Brian Families updates sleepy will win on another best bet. We're off to college basketball. Now, then I'm going to go set the record straight on the anatomy of a betting line and how I learned the hard way after the first Super Bowl I ever attended. And of course we close down this year with Mackin on sports and plenty of fodder. Twist your brain and not. Plus we've got more best bets at the end of the show Sports or entertainment, but they're more than that. Their shared experiences. Such people want to talk about them. You've come to the right place. We've got a lot to talk about tonight. This is straight out of Vegas to pregame show you always wanted, as they say in Sid Hartman, Minnesota. It's gonna be lit. All right. Recently. We've heard about what some people are characterizing is Selfish trade demands, you know, first will be checked at Carrie Irving wanted out. Then Kevin Durant wanted out. Then James Harden wanted out. And when you know what these three musketeers well, they're forming one of the most disjointed collection of individuals superstar talent that in my opinion, We'll never won a damn thing. Then it comes down to the affable to Shawn Watson, who wants out of Houston because he's upset. This is where I hold two thoughts. Concurrently. I like to Shawn Watson, and I think he's an exceptionally gifted player. But don't try to make me feel sorry for you, too. Sean. You signed a generational contract after Your favorite receiver was traded. No one made you do it. How about what the hell you had at least 111 million reasons to take the deal. Meanwhile, you were then banana shape on the Texans brass forgot to check with you before beginning their coaching search. I get it. Houston Texans management while their shorts are clean, either because they said they would check with you first. So you have a right to be a little perturbed when they go back on their word, but to engage in all this passive Aggressive behavior when you don't get your way, then Matt Stafford joining the fray. This was long overdue. But when you add the fact his wife wasn't happy living in Michigan, and then allegedly well, Stafford was mad when coach Darrell Bevell wasn't retain in some capacity. Let lit the fuse once and for all. He's off the Los Angeles and they don't even need to play the Super Bowl next year. Man. I'll take you there. Don't worry, not Russell Wilson. Sadie until Russell. I'm going to address you to these situations, but first before We get, too carried away after the antics of always accomplishment. Let's not act like this has never happened before. The empowerment of the professional athlete has been going on since Nixon was president. Here's a few notable examples. I bet you didn't know about how about Wilt Chamberlain. Well, well. He spent most of his days in the N B. A. You're going to be legendary to be a guy remembered to be great. And he definitely Woz, however, to get to that plateau, he was not only treated once but twice so in 1968 for the price of a case of beer and a few new basketballs. Wilt Chamberlain was dining the purple and gold for the Lakers. She will was unhappy in Philadelphia with the 76 years. That's right. He was unhappy with the team that had just gone 62 20. The team that compliment in him with legends like Hal Greer and Billy Cunningham and Chet Walker. Instead, he wanted to be part of a Laker team. He would just be one of the guys, not Ville guy. He would be playing with Jerry West and Elgin Baylor. It's always seemed that Chamberlain left the Sixers for two reasons to play in L A and the planning team. We would have to be a leader. That was selfish, But here's a fun fact. Chamberlain. Actually, one of them be a championship before wanting out. He won one in Philly in 67. And then again after he got to L A and 72 hold that thought. Cream Abdul Jabbar. He had a pretty big challenge We had to him when he was drafted by the Bucks and 69, however, Korean help those blocks along with Oscar Robertson when a title two years later. Korean played in Milwaukee until 74 after a two this point he requested he be traded either to the Knicks or the Lakers. Now. Complaint I have here is that he split on the team after losing in the NBA Finals. Not sure he helped the Bucks win a title a few seasons before, but the fact that he was ready to give up on the team. They had a field finals run because he wanted to play in the big city. Sorry. He was selfish, but at least you won before and again after, and we got to the Lakers. Thanks to help of a guy named Magic Johnson. How about a came along as you want? I've always remembered team is an all around good dude. Probably because Well. I'm not that smart, but it looked. His trade request back in 1992 was really kind of selfish because this was back in the stages of Jordan's Bulls threepeat run And then Mr that the Rockets were they were a team having difficulties coping with the struggles that come with an emerging basketball team. Now before the start of the 93 season, his agent demanded a trade. And threatened a lawsuit because of a disagreement and a suspension that had happened at the end of the previous season. By the way, Ah, large one had suffered a hamstring injury in the spring of 92, but he refused to suit up after team doctors cleared him to play..

"To this story. But I can make the story amusing for everybody back in the day, and I'm Placing this is late sixties, which would be a little bit more than 50 years. The only pro basketball game that you would see on television was the game of the week. On Sunday afternoon. And it was on ABC. It later went over to CBS and CBS had the end before long, long, long time, But before that it was on ABC. And the game would come on. I recollect it was like one o'clock in the afternoon. It was always New York and Boston. Or New York and Philly or Boston and Philly. Every week. Now, admittedly back at that time, I think there were only like 12 franchises in the entire league. So there weren't that many to pick from, and This was before television. Ordered teams to just change their starting time to accommodate TV. For example, if they wanted to show like the Lakers, they be showing again. That would be 11 o'clock out in California. When it started today, they wouldn't have any qualms at all about you're saying you're going to start the game that because you want to put it on TV, but Even back then they were shoving those two or three teams down our throats. It was a trait. To see the Cincinnati Royals. They never hardly got out. You know, I was a treat to see them. Think about I would have been a treat to see him other than you never know. Well, I guess it relates to the heart. You hardly didn't see him. Well, I know this because that was the only way you could see asking Robertson remember when you only saw one game a week. And I have a kid. We just basically all we do is what we read about these players. The on Lee time you could see these players. I didn't even think of the big cities. There weren't many. I mean, when the box got started, they put a few games on local television. But this is the sixties. There was this that one game of the week and the networks were based in New York, and they were interested in putting on The teams from the East Coast, which is around where they were. So every week we'd see Philadelphia that was Hal Greer and Chamberlain and Billy Cunningham. Or you'd see the Celtics that the great lineup that won the championship every year Bill Russell and have a check and Salmon, Casey Jones and At our backs sitting on the sidelines, smoking a cigar. You understand? That's not an exaggeration. He was smoking a cigar during the game of the sidelights, the coach Doesn't that seem like that to be 800 years ago? I mean, it really wasn't that long ago. The people were smoking in the arena that that actually that actually stopped. We sure to go. But you could no smoke in the atrium. That was not as long ago. As you think you could smoke in a pre Amari's So I'm bringing that up. As a way of introducing this point. At the selective biases that we ever Had that come through the media. Have gone on forever. The difference between the ones that I just cited. Now we're getting to the point. And what's happening now is the ones in the past. Were largely harmless. Paul mentions Aaron Rodgers. What would get 100 times more attention if he was in New York. Because he plays in the state of Wisconsin. In the end, that's largely harmless. Who in the end really cares who in the end, really cares of Kareem Abdul Jabbar did not become a household name until he got to the Lakers, not the biggest deal in the world who really cares, the things that happened in the Midwest in terms of weather. Don't get the same attention on the national media's when they occur. In New York again relatively harmless. So we've gone from the selective perception of the media and everybody's guilty of this. You perceive things that are happening around you. More so than things that are happening somewhere else. I come in all the time that we react more strongly to that that we see then that that we nearly here about so if you hear about a blizzard in a city where they get 13 inches of snow, you just have a stronger reaction If you're in the city where you get the 13 inches of snow The media, however, has never been able to make that leap of going from Not focusing on what I'm interested in I being the person in the media but focusing on what the audience is interested. It. But as they say all of those in the past were largely Harmless. The biases in perceptions and attitudes. Now I not only not harmless. They're rendering us into communist China. Consider the following point as I walked through some examples The average American liberal. The kind of country that they want us to be. And how does it differ? From the way the communist Chinese run their country. I'm serious. What's the difference, eating the current ideology of the American left and the current ideology of the Chinese communists? They both believe in strong state control. They both believe in central planning. They both believe it, allowing experts to make all the decisions. They both believe in silencing irresponsible voices of dissent. They both believe in strong elitism. And they both hate the notion of the masses ever rebelling and.

"But the most important thing is that we won the game. So that's all i counted. I might point out to everybody out there that al was perfect at ninety eight eight from the field and he was one for one from the free throw. How much did that game Really put the nba on the map. Because i always thought that was one of the seminal moments in the history of the nba back then. The nba was predicated on each team having stars. And if you if you go down to teams you go you go through the lakers. They had elgin baylor. Jerry west and you go to cincinnati at oscar robertson. And of course my friend wayne embry you go to the warriors they had wealth bad guide at aaronson. You go up to syracuse. They had doll. Shades may had Hal greer 'cause next richie garin and so what heaven is it became kind of a star league and the people actually came to see was star so now when you get a player scores one hundred points a game. Everybody wants to go see him. For instance when we came to san francisco It was a big college town. So you know we really didn't know we've into the fabric of the of the city like some teams there. Because you could go see bill russell university sam cisco casey and pete knows team over cow but then you can go see the warriors play forty one games at home so do people would go see. Maybe five ten games a year if that so they weren't making generating the kind of money that they need to run a basketball team. But when we gonna road where you go in play the lakers. They would have a full house because everybody wants to see. Well i remember we use gonna preseason tour and we play my first year. We played twenty. Preseason game eddie. Got the made his entire payroll for that year in those twenty games because we'd have sell out crowds the seaworld exhibition game and then whatever he made during the regular season. I think eddie partners money but he didn't give it to us. Oh everything but now he. And i remember People say that he was really the marquee player in the league. That people wanted to see. I mean other teams have great players but nobody of is his magnitude so he kinda really geared league for a long time. I thought certainly those battles between the philadelphia warriors in the boston celtics were certainly special. And i know in talking to bill about them. He said that every time he knew he was going to have to play. He said he knew he was going to have to be smarter than will. He's it because i couldn't out muscle him. He he said you know he was so big and everything he said but i liked that challenge while they were there were so many the day with so many stories written about that first of all one story was that they didn't get along and they were very very friendly factory rush music and go to new york and st a woman summer. We use the kid russ about this. And because he when whenever they came in philadelphia not only played for two years. Whenever they would come to fill up he would go world's housing and sleep and eat and sleep in world bed and then they'd come and beat us that night and so we'll always getting tired of feeding. You let you sleep and then let you beat us. But frank mcguire. Wherever he is. Today is looking down on game seven in boston. Old boston garden about a play that he still thinks prevented us would be game. Seven and i kinda agree with him so but they were Boston is just head and shoulders above. Everybody in professional basketball and i'll have to do is look. Ross he's one lebanon thirteen championships that speaks volumes. No player in history of any other sport is ever done what he's done. How traumatic was the move of the philadelphia warriors. Other golden state warriors are the california warriors. I still remember. Because i lived in newark new ninety six miles away from philadelphia. So i was home for the summer and their rumors about the war is moving the philadelphia. I mean moving in san francisco. And i remember people asking me and you know couple of friends of mine were writers. Ask what are you fading. I said there's no way that they're not going to have a team in philadelphia. They're wondering original. You know teams in the league. So there's no way not going to have a team philadelphia. And then one day. I woke up said philadelphia. Wars moved to san francisco. And then well you know. We didn't have anything to do but we if we wanted to continue to play we had to move in our member Talking to a couple of players own now with moving to san francisco so we really don't make a lot of money they forgot the eddie gottlieb's ran per state so nothing changed from financial standpoint but probably that move with the biggest thing als. Also there's another thing too. And you know this as well as i do. And you've already alluded to what about the playground. Game back easing. I mean they're legendary. Those games are like you come out to the west coast which is more laid back. Dodgers certainly found that when they left the brooklyn and everything. Did you guys have to go through that same type of assimilation right. Because there was some times that i remember you know back in like you walk out of your house. And i live in the area where they were three or four playgrounds within a two block area where i live and you can go to any one of those playgrounds at night during summer and find a good basketball then doing me. Saturdays and sundays you go to the park and fly place the play. Now they have places out here to play remember. We had to get on the phone and call the players and say wait now. We're gonna wig on down to presidio tonight at seven o'clock and let's bring come down and play so we'd go and play. Of course you know. There are other places that people played just didn't seem to be the same count intensity than they were good players out here but for some reason they didn't get together maybe areas that we weren't in but i can remember that in you know obviously later on it became you know Something that more people want to do but back then it was kind of a struggle really enough. I remember the way though you know they don't wanna see one guy gets fifty points a game at twenty eight with thirty points and forty points. They wanted to see more of a team game. And that was kind of you know opposite of what the nba was about that time. How intelligent where the west coast basketball fans over you let. Let's be honest. we had bill russell. And you know the coaches at a universal system. We had pete. Noel who is like you know the guru and in college basketball and the number of high school coaches. You a very very good to have a lot of good players. It was just a different game people in quite understand. They say well no. It's a ten foot basket out the free throw line fifteen feet away to court. It's not you know Ninety four by fifty notes the same game. It's not the same game as a different game and back then it was a more physical came because they allowed you to do things about playing basketball. They didn't against the rules. You weren't supposed to use the hands back then but not you know when you got enough flow sometime. You're fighting for your life with your hands. And the league changed over the last eighteen years to where they took all the hand plan. Because i can remember when i got out there you know when i first got there. I was used to play college basketball and found out very quickly. You know you know people were using the hands on you you know. This wasn't like a football game but they was played a little bit like that and now it stays little bit. But i think that was the biggest difference with the pro game and a college game coming in. We've got a little bit over a minute left Before we have to break here but franklin merely dan becomes the owner of the team that transition.

That's the name none of us could ever forget. I loved Hal Greer. I loved how great God was he good And he was underrated, but not in Philly. They loved him. I'm filling that. Let me ask you a question. People watching sports is going down, isn't it? Well, I don't think so. I don't think so. I mean, when I read that somewhere. Listen, listen, Let me tell you this folks are watching MBA basketball. OK, because the competition has been absolutely fantastic is their phenomenal baseball is a different story because it went from 162 games. Just 60 games. Everybody's looking at it right now and nothing. What the hell That's fake fake season. Exactly. It's a fake season. And then when you got the Miami Mall in 17 18 players on the team tested positive stuff like that, and that you got games being postponed, and then everybody, it might not even end up playing the same amount of games. That the legitimizes the season the MBA doesn't have that problem. These eight regular season games have been riveting. The playoffs are going to begin August 7. I won't watch it. I won't watch. You know why your dog getting your beliefs and I respect that. I don't always agree with you consistent. We call it consistent. You are consistent without question. You have a right to feel the way that and sometimes you, great me and sometimes by the way. Does that ever get you in trouble or nobody cares? You know, I don't give a damn if people know that, you know, our friends is that by other people at ESPN or anywhere, No, you know what? Actually, it doesn't because one of the things I remember one time I I expressed to them as well. Like I said, I would listen to everybody. I don't know as much as Mark live in those. Okay, So guess what? I might disagree with you. But then when you open your mouth, and you explained your position if you have a point, I'm going to concede that you have that point. And oh, by the way, I'm not going to consider you to be a scorching earth. A racist or anything like that. You know, you know you want to know why You're a class act. "They were coming out of high school you knew their name before they got on to the seat like that's how big wrecks happened was when you and I were growing up he was a top ten pick and he will join us as I said because he's gotten very good I don't know how he does this but we will asking questions how he does this finding these videos that no one else I've seen that are fairly amazing videos but let's get back to wires that stick out to his father yelled at him let's play the sound first Bristol of what happened between students and Rick Perry a long time ago a long time ago that made still got his father calls to gods and demanded apology ray come I could put got a tip and no we do not but I could thank you put seven goals I could put seventy patrons with that's not the point trying to change the parameters you made a blanket statement that Kobe Bryant I've never wanted the only main reason for the championship if the Michael Jordan he never worn without Scotty Pippin name another player on the typing without him name another player Rick how many to put them in without him there could be one because he had twenty one eight okay nobody so go on the other one but Rick the question one question was do you have another one question was Rick Barry do you think Kobe wants to would want to be the main reason that was the question I think at the end because you are not answering the question with that because you like Colby so much you you want your foot in it you open your mouth and stuff you put it give me another player who was a great player who was the main responsible that they respond without help from somebody else came along twenty doesn't matter who what do you do to throw someone back in my face hi team lost one goal right I came when I would go for you can go for that so I got this okay Mister credibility thank you okay and now you may think that there are a number of things at the end there that it are disrespectful I maintain that the single most disrespectful thing that's two guts is ever done on or off there to anybody is all of the **** and the ZZ through into the question is Rick Perry that word was you made it twelve syllables and yes drenched in condescension and disrespect yeah and I also that time I I was I was filling time arguing with Rick Barry I was just waiting for Mike to put Akeem Olajuwon into my ear at the end and if you don't like forever and it did it did feel like forever I I I can't believe that we were sitting here doing a show and at the time like we reach that's certainly good radio all these years later but we were first take once upon a time that brief shining moment across the sky this before I think this feels like it was before debate television was it not might it not offenders was it not that long ago I'm not certain it was that long ago but regardless my dad who loves Rick Barry it felt like I was completely disrespectful to Rick Barry he was very upset with me and had a long conversation on the ride home with my dad and my dad what ended up happening was my dad right after like right after that argument on air my dad forced me to call Rick Barry and apologize direct ad so I spoke to my dad for forty five minutes and then I spoke to Rick for fifty minutes and he finally agreed to forgive me amazing well I want to find out why it is that he is mad at you this time but I'm just curious letting people look behind the show here I'm wondering how much Mike Ryan right now is missing our library because by now we would have played the question was Rick Perry about forty times if we had our normal library I was honestly when this whole pandemic started and no one really could have known the scope of where we are right now I was like wow this is a real opportunity for us to shine no sports we have this brilliant archive we have our timing we have our chemistry well that was ripped away and that's just another painful reminder in this for the next fifteen to twenty minutes rex Chapman the question will lose repairing but when you hear that back how how much remorse do you have about your disrespect before we get to why your dad yelled at you this time not not I mean I I don't have any I did it because my dad I mean it wasn't my dad called me said he was upset about it he said my dad asked me how do you feel about how you treated Rick Barry I said dad how do you feel about how Rick very true to your site about that and my dad said no you're completely disrespectful he's one of the all time greats fifty all time best players he said you need to call and apologize you were very good he said you didn't hear it I think that it was edits he said you didn't hear it and he said apologized I don't feel bad but when your dad calls you one time your entire career and ask you to apologize to someone that he loves and respects I did it for my dad are you guys markings even though we're not doing the show the way we normally do it other words disrespect was just a single syllable thereby still got there was doubt and I'm wondering if you guys have somewhere there the ability to market so that we don't lose more of our library because that is going to be an excellent stump the Meech right up there with tight ends coach in this respect but why did he yell at you this time what happened with him now so we have a rule in the show here's a for doing the show this way from different locations when you go off air the internet goes off I morph into my all time NBA TV and that happened on Monday and now what happened today but it also happened on Monday except for Monday it was like three or four minutes that felt like fifteen to twenty minutes okay from where I was sitting it was great it was legitimately great when what I want from now on because we're going to have to during this post pandemic time we're going to have to figure out a way to create a new library of jokes because we can't keep doing this show just grinding through it this way like we need some of these things so go ahead keep it keep explain me what it is that happened with your your father this time so on Monday you dropped and I was left to my own devices and I want to buy all time Sixers T. now I was rattled I wasn't really thinking correctly I'm not certain the one I gave on there is the one I actually tweeted out later that day but I did have Bobby Jones are coming off the bench of my all time Sixers team and I did not have hal Greer on the Sixers all time T. and so after the show was over I got a text from my dad that simply read call me and I know that it's okay all right no that was about at the time but I knew what it meant okay and so I called him and he said I heard your all time Sixers team and I said yes he said Bobby Jones good hal Greer great Coleman apologize every single person's phone number at my disposal at my fingertips he said all right well if you can't get all the hell Greer at least make up for it on the air the next day that there's like a let me do that he said first look him up I looked up how Greer I looked up abi Jones oh my god how Greer is so much better than Bobby Jones and my dad is right so dad I apologize hal Greer if you can hear me out there my apologies apologies to you and Bobby Jones I apologize to you because my dad was right you were good not great and therefore I have to take you off my all time Sixers team and I have to put the great hal Greer audit because that was hall of fame great and so my dad was angry for up with me for leaving off hal Greer and I've been trying to get his phone number and if anyone has if they could send it to me are you sure yes are you sure he's still with us is how Bruce still with us are you one hundred percent positive I don't know number number so that way when the call apologize regardless okay we kind of figured out here because I do I I'm kind of rooting for our he's dead Billy's cross billing for three dots still still here's a life hack you will find in any podcast the.

And there is a swamp being separated at the foul line to our right in the front court by all three officials and route some of the assistants are getting in the face of some players trying to calm everybody down. If Brown had his druthers, it'd be this group of players out there getting into this. Yes. All star. Dr not leave the bench. I'd throw them in the locker, right? Sure. There was a bit of a forearm like shit from Holden got back into. It is Brian forte was holding him back. Maybe one little forearm shove in there and didn't escalate much further beyond that. And again, none of the starters are involved in. This is a minute fifty lab blowout game. So yeah, Brett Brown was going to see this happen. This is the deal is what he wanted to see our buddies TNT gave us a nice little graphic here for the first round nine tax three flagrant fouls to Jackson's the suspension of GM, Sean marks going into the officials locker loop after game four and one hundred twenty two thousand dollars total fines, thus far will see there's going to be addition to those with this little mini fracas with folded includes in particular.
