There is an airline which has just turned the dog rescue world upside down by saying that it will be flying rescue dogs for free. Wow wow that's incredible because airlines these days they wanna nickel dime you for every everything. Yeah right and they don't wanna take pets in some cases or they have to fly as you know a certain cargo or something so this is a terrific story and we'll share it with you okay. Let's go to the phones for your calls. I from the free animal radio app for iphone android so download that now we go to robin. Hi robyn how are you. I'm hanging in there. How 'bout you very well. What's going on Well i had a question for dr debbie. I have a little diabetic peg and I like to give her treats but now she's quite restricted. I have found one The new which is the old dog cookie company in maine that has diabetic tweets. And i'm wondering what Dr debbie would think about them and if she knows any other sources not honestly familiar without particular Treat item Diabetic dogs. you know. We definitely there's there's chew things that we're struggling one is. We're trained to not allow them to gain weight because an overweight has a harder time being managed with diabetes. So that's the one struggle the other is you know we don't want to give them anything. That scott much of a high glycemic index. That's gonna really cost spurs in their blood sugar level so I have to say for the average pet owner I don't get too in the weeds about this meaning that i don't get into too much bother about it as long as we're not doing things that are just just rowsley unhealthy so meaning try to avoid some of the really rich Semi moist treats things like jerky treats or the little pepperoni styx. Some of those type of treats and try to stay to more of a dry biscuit or even you know in small amounts things like little mini rice. Cakes can be a good little snack Like okay yeah. So that's a nice little crunch In even things like carrots know we do have sugaring carrots. But if we're looking to go into something like that rather than giving them kind of a pre produced Dog treats That we're not really sure. What the fat content. And how that's going to relate to the diabetes. You know something like that would be a good substitution as well all right well. This particular company was founded by a woman who had an older diabetic dog and so she has specially formulated This treat with some Ingredients that apparently Support the diabetic dog. But i'm wondering I was concerned about Feeding between meals. Because i had been strongly Advised by the vet not to give anything between those two meals after which she has a Insulin shot these particular Traits are supposed to be okay. Well and and i guess i should come in on that because that is an important thing to think about. Is that for the average dog or cat that's diabetic. We want the majority of the calories consumed at the time when their insulin is given. So that's how they're going to be best able to process their food and energy so yes in general your veterinarians saying the right thing Want to give treats throughout the day. Willy nilly because that's not going to be in the pet's best interest now we do have some dogs where we notice that the kind of drop a little bit in there may be in their blood sugar curve. And that's a test that you're veterinarian. Does evaluate the the timing of when the insulin kind kicks in and when the blood sugars are going to start to rise again. But i do have some dogs. Maybe at the midday area actually benefit from a little small snatches to keep their blood sugars steady just when i give this little trick to her and i it comes in small. Very dry hard Chips and i break them and it gives them. I give them then and then i give a few When i take them out for their last walk before they go to bed yeah treats her. It's a big part of you know having a pet i do it myself but there are actually even situations where we can avoid the actual treat item and actually use the dog food because a lot of times it's more of a psychological treat than really what we're giving so if you are having any dietary challenges with either pancreatitis or managing diabetes. We can always go back to the diabetic food and just giving that as a treat item. Just kind of making a big to do about it and you. Many people will find that you know that piece of kibble and it's just as well received if you kind of do that. Ooh look at this song and dance. Goes along with it but you think that this is okay a little at noon and maybe just a tad before bed. I can't stay on that particular product. I'm just not familiar with that. Unfortunately but in general any any little treat. is is better mid day and Then you get. The timing is totally fine. I'm fine with that. But yeah i would ultimately refer this back to your nearing because i don't want to say something that's going to jeopardize your patch regulation and not something that we really have to look at those numbers when we check those blood sugar curves to figure out Is there an optimum time where we might wanna treat one. Last quick question How about canned green beans drained and rinse as a little filler To control weight when when feeding the main Breakfast and dinner. I'd rather use fresh green beans rather than canned mostly. Just because i'm all for unprocessed foods and you know they're salt that's added to that and even sometimes in sugar that's added to those canned products so You know a nice. Fresh green bean has got a nice crisp. snap to it I find that mini dogs find that more fun than a mucci green being that just sitting on their food. Go wrong agree. So that's that's a very interesting. Well thank you so much. This has been very lightning. Thank you for your call today. Robin of course You're guilty of.

"It's radio celebrating the connection with our pets. And if you're a longtime animal radio listener you know that we like to have a lot of fun here. We like to joke around. Generally it's pretty a pretty happy or funny topic here. Radio however more serious when cater. Here's somebody you say. I believe in fair. Yeah you always say what i used to say. When i lived in in. Virginia you know they would hear a be far in fairfax which was sixty miles away. See this is the kind of fun we like here. Animal radio but today. We're actually broaching kind of a tender subject that we all have to deal with if we if we have a pet. We have two chances. Are you're going to have to deal with this once or at least twice depending on how many pets you have. And that of course is either euthanasia or the loss of your pet and people that don't have pets they'll come over to you and they'll say hey it's only a dog. What's the deal. But for us their family and we have that bond that connection with them. Our next guest is michelle gaylord. She is the owner of eternal pause and she makes memorial jewelry for your animals so that you can celebrate their lives after they've passed and michelle. How're you doing. i'm fine thank you for having me tell us a little bit about your business. Will you. well actually. I started out as a gift basket. Business four dogs and their owners and everybody wanted to know if i carried sympathy gifts for a pet. That's passed so i started doing that. And then people started asking about earns caskets headstones. So that's when i opened up eternal pawprints and we have absolutely everything needed to memorialize a beloved pet. And we have searched. We've been in business for about eleven years. We have searched all around the world and found products for in every price range and every taste. Our jewelry is a big hit. We have jewelry earns and a lot of people like to put a small amount of remains. Or maybe a lock of hair from their pet in that memorial jewelry earned that they can wear close to their hearts. How how do you feel about being such an integral part of somebody's life. We get compliments almost on a daily basis people that thank us for having what we have available and being able to understand their loss and it's just it is so touching the stories that we hear in the gratitude that we get from people and my kids are all four-legged. So they are my family. He went wanna know do you because this is something that my family has discussed. Do you actually make diamonds out of the remains. Yes we can make You can pretty much now. Get anything made i myself go am going to be a wine. Glass family get free. There's beads there's glass pendants. Yes all of it can be made in the cremades. Make beautiful colors. Have you ever had any strange requests that you couldn't feel well yes i had. I had one person that wanted to know if they could their cat in my freezer Of course i turned that down. I had another man that wanted to put his dog in a casket and he wanted me to build or have made a pipe. That would come up through the ground that was capped off and then when he passes away he wanted to be cremated and poor down that tube and be casket with his dog. How I was not able to find anybody to help him but i kind of i gave him some hints A lot of people want a sealed proof casket so they can have their pet in it above ground and when they moved. Take the pet in the casket with them. That's interesting but you have to have the dog or the cat or the pet in formaldehyde. You can't leave their body liquids inside their body. Because it builds up gas it would have to be involved. It would have to be involved. Yeah have have you ever had anybody asks to have their pet taxidermied know that well i have a niece. That's what she wants to do with her dog but the dog is still living. So we'll have to see if that comes about but i've thought about it with my own dogs really. Did you hear about the guy that turned his cat into a drone with no no. I didn't hear about it more interesting. Wild things out there. You haven't had that's true. Yeah well this is all very unique. "Are really good for pets. Just kind of kill that each cycle and Actually we just started using a new injectable product and it's called caddy c. A. d. i in. It's really exciting. It stops them kind of the pathway. The signals in the each cycle so for pets with allergies or a lot of other things. Even things like skin mites It can help to kind of make them more comfortable within his quick as a day. So and and that's actually not so much a drug drug. It's more what we call a monoclonal antibody Kind of exciting stuff there. No you were talking about benadryl. I gotta ask this darn benadryl. Humans take yeah certainly. it is now we always do with your doctor's direction because the juice we base off the pets overall health and whether or not they have other concurrent problems so But yeah we can use benadryl. There's other antihistamines. That are used in people like us. Sometimes we'll use ertak or hydroxy zina's another one. That people use the benadryl. Is it a higher dose than what humans. It's actually yeah it is actually higher so yeah For large dogs. I mean people take a twenty five milligram benadryl in large dogs might take fifty milligrams or more so it would put us under the table for probably a day and a half. So but yeah. Yeah and i don't like to discuss juices on the radio just because i don't know all your pets specific diagnosis so i can't really advise you on how much you should give. But you can definitely talk to your doctor about a specific directives for her caveat. Well it is an injection and that'll only be at your veterinarian and it is a new product so you may have to kind of check around to see but that plus some of the other drugs There's one called appa. That's really fabulous for dogs with allergies. We just have to do a little more kind of screening checking with pets. Cyber you're scratching. There's nothing i can do about it. Yeah well there are some things but we just really have to kinda in any situation. What i usually do is. I'll say okay. This is what i would like to do to figure out what's the cause. And then these are some of the therapies. We might use and depending on the budget honestly in the pets. Have the problem. We kind of pick and choose what we need to do. So if it's a matter that See we have kind of narrow budget to work with. We may say okay like to test these minimal things. But let's try these steps and that might be treating for mites One of these oral products might be using a shampoo. It might be making sure we're doing some good flea control And then maybe something to help with the edge. So i think there's a lot of things that can be but the the first step is kind of asking for help and making sure we start to direct that towards her skin. You're listening to animal radio. "Female dog. Oh it's a studio caliban lady so example. You've got alex three eight one d. s. four. Why is seven b. is to you is three and bug g. is seven so again this is just breaking it down one digit so then when i go across the soul is the number to let me check here to seven nine How long does that dog been around nine years. Well that's interesting. The dogs energy actually adds up to nine but I would say to you remember. I said in energy that doesn't want to be abandoned energy that needs to be connected to the people who matter to them. That's lady bug and gentle spirit because of the seven and the two so. I don't know the whole story with you. Guys know more about this pepper. Was this a rescue dog or tell me the story. It was a well. She was I got it from a foster family at eight weeks old okay so she was a baby all right so i said that to seven is very chill but the nine means abandonment issues. So it's about being with you being connected to family. That's more like your husband. What i don't understand. Is you have an animal and if you name it something does it become that name or is the animal you look at the animal to see what it is and you name a name that sponsor what happens is when you just like when you introduce yourself in numerology. There's a sound to everything. So when i say a name and it resonates there's energy behind it so you want that name energy to be compatible by the way lady bug because it does add up to a nine is considered compatible to how and judy on paper see. There are certain numbers that are compatible. Three six nine is a pack of numbers. How a three life path to nine life. Pap lady bug is a nine. So that's a connection to the family but at that pet's name is not even to you example. The number eight the first thing. I'll ask someone. Does that cost you a ton of money. Yes it won't. It will eat certain food you know. Watch comfortable bed or forget about it. It's energy if we want learn more. What's in the book. Well has your number. I caught the buffet numerology. Because i have simplified it for you so as quick as you pick it up you could go to name your pet by the numbers and be able to do and then i define the personality of energy and what's the name of it glenis has your number number. She l. y. And is but again at numbers. Lady dot com. It's available up there and for the people who just heard me do a quick example on you by the numbers they can look up their their own information. They can look up their life path number and their attitude number on the website. Okay and is there a website attitude. Yeah the you gotta know that. That's that's a pretty important what's What's the website cleaness numbers lady dot com numbers lady dot com. And of course least everything you've heard on today's show over animal. Where are you calling from today. Where is that cat. Steak and area home in the los angeles area. Yeah what's going on with your animals. I have the whole team here for you. Well i was wondering he's gonna be three years. Old is really really picky to eat. And it's just somebody's really picking eat. He's giving all organic food and the products that you put hot water in the minute. Cool down make him his own dinners like she potato and chicken you know. Chicken breasts knows for him and down young pieces little by with your finger and then probably most half the time. He will not eat everything and is he Is he skinny normal weight as you know he goes. The he's very loving care. She goes the fifteen pounds. And like you're supposed little guy. He's not a real big one boy. And i mean really well you know we take care of them really really really good. Doesn't like eight okay with a pet. That doesn't eat well especially a small breed dog there some of this which definitely we can have some true. Medical causes for why a dog doesn't want to eat or is very reluctant to eat. And then there's kind of the human created or the psychological factors that play a role so my general guideline when i'm counseling. A family about a. that's not eating. Well the first thing. I look at his their body condition. Are we fat or we piji and if so then my conversation first starts with A little bit of tough love is that if we have a pet that's on the chubby side and we are concerned that they're not eating enough. Then we just need to change what we're doing because we're probably over feeding them and they're telling us hey i just don't need that much So that's one thing..

I think she has some potty training problems to we're going to find out because you know even the big celebrities have troubles with also we're gonna be talking to a young lady whose heads up organization called feeding pets of the homeless and you. That isn't that great. I mean you see people around that are homeless and they often have pets with him and sometimes you think the just give some money because they have a pet with them. And there's a lot of controversy about it but this organization finds food and veterinary care four. These homeless animals that are hanging out with the homeless people. Because it's both homeless but they have each other. That is awesome. Yeah let's see how about we go to the phones and through your calls right now. Dr davis it. Shouldn't it the bit chomping at the bit thank you. It's always easy to reach out to. Dr debbie joy villani its toll free from the free animal radio app for iphone and android so download that now we go to tracey. Hi tracy how are you doing. I'm fine how are you great. What part of the country are you calling from. I'm calling can from the state of california. The beautiful central coast gerard randy. Gotta love it. So what's what's going on with you and your animals. well i have a About eight and a half year old. Black labrador retriever. That was recently. I noticed a lump on his throat. when i was petting him it wasn't noticeable when you put your hands around him and i took him to the vet he went ahead and Didn't aspiration on it couldn't get anything. We decided to wait about a month to see if it was if it were growing or what was happening. And i took them back and yes it had grown a slight amount so they decided to remove it and when they removed it. It came back as A thyroid carcinoma. And so i'm trying to do some research. And i'd really like some information from dr debbie Regarding this if she has seen this at all in her practice. I'm not being able to find a lot of information. about it Also some information online. But not a ton. I do have been scheduled to go to. Uc davis for further evaluation. Wehab done a baseline x ray at the vet that has not moustapha that we can see from the x-ray to his lungs and we also did a baseline Blood test for his thyroid I think at a one point four which was low to normal. Yeah okay all right and is he feeling. Good other ways is he. Having any other changes trouble feels great. He's still that you would. You would never know that anything was wrong. He's very active eating. Well symptoms that. I can see that i read online of anything which suspect anything. It was just one of the same. Put my hands on and and felt something was like. What's that you know. And i thought it was. Maybe as adam's apple or something like that. And it's like ooh moves so thyroid tumors not as communist some other types of tumors that we do see but And i would say most of the dogs. That i've diagnosed thyroid tumors with dogs have been beagles Because that's a breed highly represented so beagles boxers and i'd see golden retrievers are the most common ones that i've seen it in not that it can't happen in other breeds. It's just a little bit more common in those others still yet. And he of knowledgeable in the neck area would be suspect for this and the good is that yes sounds like you got it small. You gotta before. He's got a lot of other symptoms. But the bad is that the overwhelming majority of these thyroid based tumors are malignant and approximately ninety percent of them will be either a carcinoma or an ad no carcinoma. So that means that it could have the potential to metastasized to the lymph nose to the lungs. I'm glad that they did do some chest x rays Because we can pick it up sometimes at the very time we diagnose this lump in the neck and we sometimes see in about thirty to thirty to forty percent of the dogs though actually have it in their lungs already. Okay so there's other line of treatment. I mean what do they mostly do radiation on this or depends. It really depends in If you're going to uc davis the great thing about that is there are some A lot of newer testing that help us to identify. What mode of therapy is going to be the best. So there's tapes genetic tests that they can do. Oh and that can help to decide whether or not this type of tumor is maybe more amenable to radiation therapy chemotherapy. But there is actually a whole lot of things so we do surgery and if we don't get good margins a lot of times we'll follow that up with radiation therapy which is kind of similar to people where you know irradiate the bed. The area of where the tumor is removed. And that's good if we don't get all of the tumor or if we have an incomplete removal so the path report from your other. Veterinarian will be important and if even they may even ask for samples Or a slide from that biopsy so they can do some of their own testing on that as well but yes okay. Are there any. Are there any particular questions that you can think that i should ask. There's so the things that i would ask me be in advance i do. You want some of those samples from the biopsy because that does take a little process to get that together and obviously it's removed already so anything if they need to any analysis on that you might see if you need to Get that from your other lab. So that'd be when they find out if you need that. And i would also make sure in addition to raise if we want to try to really know where we're at kind of go into things they're going to have to do lab.

She has Neuro endocrine cell hyperplasia. And that means that she her. Lungs don't work properly. She needs to take an oxygen tank wherever she goes and her parents decided to get her a service dog to help her kind of maneuver around with the oxygen tank. Seemed like a good idea. Doesn't share not so much. Apparently there's many people and you may agree right now. All of you in the studio you're looking at me. You may agree that sometimes a person may be too young to handle a service dog like in this case of a three year old girl. Yeah i think that's a little. Yeah i think it is. Yes i do personally. Pet alpacas packers service pack aca. Yes back as and they're indoor outdoor alpacas by the way not with them just like you did with your cat noel. Pack is in your living room. Okay let's Let's go phone. I know kevin's waiting for. Hey kevin how are you doing. I'm doing fine. Thank you for taking my call today. Call you from los angeles. You guys are having wake. Watch fun out there. We we are so what. What do you got going on. I understand you want to talk to dr deb. Quick question. i was listening to your program being broadcast early this morning. Los angeles and there the lady that spoke about a german shepherd and how he was fish in israel hind leg yet. Some spinal condition. I also to own a german shepherds on five hundred seventy three years. Old name is king and I know that in the future. I'm going to have to anticipate some type of look. Typical for act. I didn't hear you anticipate what the german shepherd experience powders look at eight because there are no for having problems and so my question is knowing that that's going to come in the future just slovak insurance that you can just for your dog for medical situations because having can take him to the vegas very expensive and just that kinda cash is especially. When i wanted to give the best care to my animal that i can't i always i can't afford it because they're such that the veterinary now uh-huh. Oh absolutely and you know. It's great that you're thinking ahead because a lot of people don't anticipate those big bills when they come up and you know there's a lot of great advances. We haven't veterinary medicine. But they come at a cost and a lot of these things can be price prohibitive if you're not ready for them so with with any breed of dog my recommendations i do recommend pet insurance and i prefer to get a dog or cat into that when they're young preferably as a puppy or kitten because number one your rates are going to be the lowest then in also you haven't set any kind patterns of preexisting conditions Because once your dogs ate has a problem with allergies or ear infections. That's already documented in the medical record in those may not be covered if you sign up for insurance later so the best advice is get into insurance And then your question about some of these big problems in shepherds like hip dysplasia You have to be cautious because if you are hoping to have that kind of insurance help you for specific condition. You really need to check the pet insurance carefully There are different exclusions for both hereditary conditions in pre existing conditions. So if for example you were to tell me you went to the vet down the street and they told you your dog has hip displeasure right now and then you try to get an insurance policy. After the fact is very possible a company might not cover it at all while still some conditions. If they're treatable will even pre existing and it's been noted before they may cover it but it depends on the company it depends on the condition So it's something. I'd have a hard time telling you blanket which to go with But the other thing to keep in mind with some of these different pure breed diseases and in hip. Dysplasia is very common in german shepherds. Is that that has a hereditary base so it is passed on from jimmy to generation so they may have an exclusion based on that as well so. I recommend you can do this stuff online. It's it's very easy. You go to the different insurance Pet insurance Websites and you can go through and ask for a free quote and It's very easy. You can a little annoying after the fact that you can. Always unsubscribe if you don't want It's a really good way to kind of price. Compare and then when something is looking like it's in your budget. I do suggest to get someone on the horn and.

"Featuring veterinarian. Dr debbie white groomer. Joey villani director. Lorie brooks now from the red barn studios. Here are your host. Hal abrahams and judy francis. If your dog suffers from allergies or cat or flamingo. I guess or really any of your animals but mostly your dog and your cat. There are some great new medicines on the market and just a few minutes. Dr marty becker will be back to tell us about these that really our very own doctor. He's been talking about for for months now. Yeah now. i'm a big fan of a lot of these things and people just don't know that there's new things out there that can help and you don't have to rely on the old things that you did a decade or two. Don't have to let your animals suffer anymore. So that's around the corner and just a few minutes right here on animal radio. And what are you working on over there in the newsroom. Miss brooks well. When i was in school and did you guys ever use the excuse that the dog ate your homework time. Okay i mean i did too. I never tried that one. But there's a guy in florida who's trying the excuse. My dog shot my girlfriend. This is for real. Yeah that's on the way just a couple of minutes. Let's hit the phones from the free animal. Radio app for iphone and android and the iphone. You can send it to your questions you can send us the sounds that your animals make we love to hear those especially off time. And let's go to kevin hayes. Kevin where you calling from today. Roy in california just down the street listening on kabc. Thank you so much for listening. I have the whole team here. What's going on so Who are talk let lab. He's about nine and a half old and He was losing hair on his left eye around his eye. And so we took him in and They thought it was meant men. Jay might initially and they prescribe a flea medicine. That was supposed to clear that up it. It wasn't the might. They did a culture. To test for ringworm wasn't ringworm. They did a biopsy You know of course all tips weeks to do all this Turns out he had A staph infection and So they put him on antibiotics Which does seem to slowly have been helping but they also prescribed another medicine because My concern is he. it's a lot like he scratches and And in the morning sometimes he's coughing so The doctor said the to put him on claritin and in the last time he actually prescribed a. I'm medication called prepaid credit phone. Okay prednisone on. Yeah and when. I was reading some of the side effects of credits zone. It said it can stunned growth and i guess it's a steroid so i was a little concerned about prejudice owns And and we actually. I did a little more research. And i found a product called He oh you. Uso do oxo's shampoo which have pretty good reviews about skin allergies online. So that's kind of question. If i if i should be given them this predator or should i just wait it out or what okay. Great well i see a lot of labradors practice and i will tell you at a job of his age A couple of things come screaming out to me number. One is what kind of what they've already alluded to is Skin mites so mites are typically most common puppies young dogs or those that are immune suppressed from something else that means their immune system doesn't quite fight them off as another dog There's different types of mites different types of treatments so. I'm not sure what specific type that. The veterinarian tried sometimes alley will treat for mites. Even if i don't see them on a skin test and that's an important thing for people to realize that sometimes we'll get a negative test but it doesn't mean an absolute couldn't be that so What my preferred treatment for mites is right now. is an oral product. And there's a couple of different ones out there on the market One goes by bravado. The others next guard and those are flea tick medications but they have been shown anecdotally so meaning not this not created. This wasn't created for it. It's created for fleas and ticks. But it has been shown to help here. Different types of skin mites. So that's how we gave them. Though that was the first thing can go. And i didn't clear it up okay. So so for me. That's that's a big thing now. If there was infection at same time we have to treat infection as well so that was going on and that was treated and it didn't get better the really big thing that just comes screaming out to me as you were telling me your your dogs. Kind of history. There is young labrador. Under a year of age with itchiness that does not treat effectively with mike treatment or flea treatments. Really i think of allergies allergies as a kind of a catchall term. So there's seasonal allergies which are kind of like the inhalants the molds the pollens The things around the house dust mites things like that and then there's food allergies in young dog especially labradors The youngest labrador. I've diagnosed with food allergy with six months of age. So i would really encourage you to to see your veterinarian about a good hypoallergenic diet and for me. This means not just going to petsmart or go into a pet store and picking up. Oh hammond to go green freer. I'm going to pick up the special organic diet. It's there's a lot of medicine. There's a lot of science that goes into this. So trust your veterinarian. When they say. Hey i would like to put your dog on either and a number one is a hydrolysed protein. Diet or number two is a novel protein diet and those are two different kinds of schools of thought when we try to address food allergies For a young dog that just itching is not under control getting him on diet like that and nothing else often can do the trick. But it's not a quick fix Food proteins and allergens kind linger for days to weeks so we have to try this kind of strategy. Give it a good month to two months to see how we're doing and control the edge in the meantime with other means But that would be my really big wish for. Your baby is to get this baby on on a hypoallergenic diet. And you'll be amazed. I have dogs that we've done all sorts of medicines and sometimes these heavy duty things like prednisone which yes. It's a steroid. It's suppresses the immune system in other ways as well as suppressing that each so i would really not want a dog his age to get half to be stuck on that There's a lot of other great tools in our arsenal and we've been talking about it a bit in current shows and today but there are some super medications that we can help to try to control the allergic response. That dogs have their some by pill. Form that are given on a daily basis. Called apple quell. And then there's some that we can give as an injection That aren't steroids. That are actually a completely new pathway of how we can stop the if cycle and dogs and the injection that i've been using like tons in my practice is an injection called saito point and it helps to treat each for about a month So you can do something like that. Start that and then start hypoallergenic. Diet and then once stash it injection starts to wear off and you can see how well you know. His issues. controlling I would much rather see you. Try things like that then. Getting getting hooked on a steroid here. Then you spell that injection you just assure it's see y t o p o i n t a veterinarians like myself had been using it for a year or more We used to know. What by the abbreviation caddy. Ci at stanford canine Etuhu pick dermatitis immunoglobulin and so it's not really like a drug. It's it's more It helps to bind a receptor. That's involved with the itch pathway. So just kind of blocks that whole signals to the perez really itchy so So that that'd be a great thing but it is like i said it's important to do the dietary approach so that you don't have a dog that you have to come in every month injection so you want to get ahead of this in another fashion. But you don't You don't think the president's own would be a good fit for him right now. Not at all no now. No if he was nine years old and this is the first time he's had a problem. Yea i i like to use pregnancy and it's a good inflammatory but he is too young to really have to rely on that if it was just a matter of using it for a week. That's great but For dogs that start to display allergies at this young of an age Just treating him for a couple of weeks is not going to be enough. You're gonna find that you can have to keep going back to that steroid and the problem that it creates is it. Decreases muscle mass. It's going to decrease the body's ability to fight infection in can cause hair loss in a different fashion and it can put us at risk for other things. Like what we call. I i a- trajan at cushing so basically upsetting the gland balance so I it's just a route and it's cheap. It's easy so sometimes. It is a necessary evil. But i think there's much better strategies that i didn't have in my tool bag a couple years ago and i can certainly tell you there's a lot better things we can do for him now. What about the champ rudy of thoughts on that. Yeah so the the ducks so shampoo is a great one. It does help to restore the Phospholipid barriers which is basically the healthy kind of fat oil earlier in the skin So i think that's a great thing That you can use. There's also some other top kohl's that you can do the duck so has a spot on. They're still making that you could put on. That does the same thing as some of the shampoos. So i don't have.

"Your vet said hey. I've got a poll sixteenth. That's what's got to be done at. That'd be done turnabout age. If my dog was fourteen or fifteen years all. I be worried about the i mean. I'm just being honest with the doc. Yeah no absolutely in. So there's always that concern with age and you know. Is it appropriate for the pet to be under fred gentle procedure. So that's something. I think we have to go on a case by case basis. But you know if your pet is under anesthesia. Right now and i'm calling to tell you. Hey i just noted. I have sixteen th that are in dire straits. We need to address them or they're going to push the other teeth in jeopardy. I cannot tell you how many people say no really refused to have you pull those teeth. I don't want my dog to not have teeth in its mouth and that is the backlash very frustrating. Because it's an education point that leaving a rotten loose tooth in the mouth in many people's eyes is more normal and it's more what they prefer then extracting teeth because of the concept of pulling teeth. They think it's okay to leave a rotten tooth in their dog or cats mouth for whatever reason whether it is the concept of having something removed or for pets. That don't have routine dental care. Meaning you don't brush their teeth at home and they don't go in every year for dental cleaning things happen and things will progress and if we only get to clean say fifth or sixth birthday. There's already stuff going on. We can't undo and sometimes unfortunately pulling is a necessary evil. So i guess my my great for the day is if you're veterinarian has identified a problem and says the two has to go ask why. What is the pathology. What is the consequence of leaving not too thin. And if it's not a consequence maybe you can revisit it down the road but in many cases these pets are going home with teeth. That are hurting them that because they don't complain. Their owners are missing opportunity to to get ahead of that pain and address that disease. How could there be a consequence if the if the tooth is rotten. Or whatever am i seeing right. Yeah no. there's there's definitely a consequent. There are some rare instances of incisors. That may have some looseness. That don't have a lot of period. Donald disease so those are very rare instances but when i have pictures of dogs and we actually had a video. We took showing the person that the teeth were loose. We could stick a probe halfway under the tooth because they refused to allow us to to do what we needed to do. So we show that when they pick the dog up and they were happy as pie. They just thought you know no big deal and so that was an education point pointless very difficult to get through to that individual that we aren't doing everything we need clean teeth. Making him look clean for one day does not solve that dogs dental care see. That's why event. My biggest pet peeve is still at my local pet stores still puts a sign out on weekends anesthesia. Free dental cleanings. And that's not that's not the real thing because you know you're cleaning the outer surface of the tooth so you're not getting where that disease lies and in dogs is under the gun. Line rarely do dogs and cats cats get kind of cavity but dogs are really. Don't get cavities like we do. So we're not gonna see holes in the teeth it's actually going on underneath the gum line and yeah any of those cosmetic awake cleanings are just wasting your money and give me a sense that you're doing something when you're really not you're listening to animal radio.
